Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome to Cracking this morning, a presentation of the Crack
and Audio Network and Sports Radio ninety three point three
kjr FM. Here's Mike Benton breaking news in these parts.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
The night before, Mason Marchmint is now a Columbus Blue Jacket.
Speaker 3 (00:17):
Welcome to Cracken this morning.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
On a Saturday, December twentieth, second game of the road trip,
coming up here for the Cracking to take on the
San Jose Sharks in the last matchup of the regular
season seven o'clock. It will go down at SAP Center
or on air six point thirty for your pregame show,
served up by Frostbrewed cors Light Shoes Chill all across
the Global Credit Union Kraken Audio Network, ever it fits you,
(00:40):
al Kiniski on the call in Northern California. I'll join
you at Network Central Ian Furnesz by the way, Crack
and Hockey Network TV host and one to three PM
hosts ninety three three KJRFM. We'll be with us in
just a moment. And about Mason Marchmint, the KRACK and
making a trade. The other night they sent mar Marshment
(01:00):
to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for two draft picks,
a second rounder in twenty twenty seven and a fourth
round pick in twenty twenty six, previously owned by the
New York Rangers. Columbus will take on the entirety of
Marchman's four point five million dollars salary, which will expire
at the end of the season, where he will become
(01:20):
a free agent. KRACK and GM Jason Botterill saying in
a statement, quote, this trade gives us more draft capital
and flexibility as we look to improve our team moving forward.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
End quote.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
The Kraken originally got Mason Marchman from the Dallas Stars
this past June for a fourth round draft pick in
this previous summer's NHL draft and a fourth round pick
this next summer. March Mint at four goals in nine
as sis in just twenty nine games with the Kraken.
The lineup should look different. Well, how different will it look?
(01:52):
That's a matter of a question. After the Kraken fell
forward two to the Calgary Flames and now look into
I San Jose to end a one nine to one
skid in the previous eleven games. A win would give
the Kraken two wins out of three in the head
to headset against an upstart Sharks team led by Matt Mancelabrini,
Will Smith and much more. The Kraken fell four two
(02:14):
to the Flames, owning a third period lead for the
second straight night, this time only two surrender three unanswered goals,
giving the crack in their second consecutive loss when leading
after two periods this season. Where it leads them and
how do they respond new day? That's what the Cracking
are looking forward to here for game two of the trip.
Last time they're facing the San Jose Sharks this season.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
Can you believe it?
Speaker 4 (02:37):
In?
Speaker 2 (02:37):
A win would give them not just two out of
three against Sant Jose, but really a refreshing approach here
to what has been a rough last eleven games. The
Mayor and Maple Valley here to talk about this with
the c and Forness on the KRACK and Hockey Network
also one to three ninety three three kgur weekdays. Mayor,
I have no else, I have nothing else to say
(02:59):
about this and as far as how we can describe this,
but they're just in one. They're in one second straight
time losing a third period lead.
Speaker 3 (03:07):
Now we've talked about the slide.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
They've been on here for the last eleven games, losing
Jaden Schwarz, Jared McCann, now Brandon Montor and we can
talk about the implications long term, and there are plenty
short term. This is why I'm looking forward to tonight.
Who responds, how they respond, and even how the lineup looks.
Speaker 4 (03:27):
Yeah, I agree, I think Mike. The thing is hard
right now is they're just creating new ways to lose
every night, and that's what's hard to be. You know,
Lane said on Wednesday, I guess it was that before
they went up the Calgary You know, he likes the process,
likes where they're at. The results aren't there, and we
(03:47):
all know it's the results based business. It's not college football.
There's no subjective nature do it. No one's voting on
whether or not you're good or not, and you know
ower franking peeps absolutely nothing. So it's about results and
the results aren't there. And every time they make a mistake,
it's in the back of their own net. They make
too many mistakes, so I'm not giving them a path
(04:08):
saying woe is me. It makes being any mistake and
they're like Plane said it after the game in Calgary,
like like there's things we just can't do, and we
keep doing. I don't know what a coach needs to
do to get it to their heads. Now, they're missing guys,
they're missing a lot of offense. They're missing a lot McCann,
Monty and Schwartz out. It's just killer for a team
(04:29):
that doesn't have enough offense. And you know, frankly high
end talent as it.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
Is, so it's hard.
Speaker 4 (04:35):
But you got to find a way because nobody cares
in this league. Nobody cares, nobody cares about you. You've
got to find a way. But yeah, they got three
games before the break. I you know, win two of
the three, and you feel okay going in the break.
And then and then let's see what happens. Let's see
if bos gets creative, Let's see if they do some things,
check some things up, expiring contracts. I don't think the
(04:58):
season is lost by any stretch. Might e, but they
got to do something because what they have right now,
flat out is not working.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
Forgot about that point last year when they had to
really shake things up with getting Compo Cocko in. I
think we're at this point now where you know you're
running out of options based on what you've done over
the last nine, ten eleven games, and you hinted at this.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
Here's more. With Lane Lambert meeting with the media the
other night, Lane Compo.
Speaker 4 (05:24):
Mentioned that maybe some of the guys were so afraid
the Bates face and a third period protecting the football
leads you.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
I think that's ridiculous.
Speaker 3 (05:34):
I think we needed to get on the fore check.
We talked about Stan on our toes, you know, so
if that's what's going on.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
Then it has to change. What do you need from
from the packs? More detail? More detail in certain areas
that are game changers. You know.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
We cannot turn the puck over entering the blue line
on their third goal.
Speaker 3 (05:59):
It just can't happen. And we keep doing these things
over and over again, and it's getting old and we've
got to figure this out.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
His voice is pretty firm, and I think he set
the tone pretty well after the media spoke with Coppocco
and now we get this and so ed, now this
is getting I think down a morale because this is
pull your booststraps up territory. This is not just here
for the short term talk of where things are right
now in the standings, and it's going to be a
tough climb out of the seven point gap right now.
(06:30):
But this is him trying to reinforce the foundation of
what this team is supposed to be all about.
Speaker 4 (06:34):
Yeah, and let me just if I can just jump
on a soapbox for a second, if I could. Yeah,
this is not a Lane Lambert problem. This is not
a Lane Lambert problem. This is not a coaching staff
Lane Lambert, and I would say specifically Chris Taylor and
you know what, the penalty kill has been better. They
(06:55):
gave up the one on Thursday, but you know she
clothed and Taylor and Lane, that's this is not them.
This is a roster construction along with some bad luck
with injuries, problems, guys not developing better, guys not getting it,
mental mistakes, just brain dead to be honest with your
(07:16):
brain dead mistakes. The Blue Liners. Lane just mentioned he's
dead it. He's turned brain dead idea. So that's what
he said. This is not a Laine Lambert problem. And
for those that are screaming and yelling off coaches issue,
and maybe they need to, they're not making a coaching change,
nor should they make a coaching change.
Speaker 3 (07:34):
They've done this down twice in the last two years.
There is no rhyme to do this. None none, no, Ke.
Speaker 4 (07:41):
And listen, captain, you know this. This is not a
lay problem. This is whether you maybe it's roster construction
and if that's part of it, but I think part
of it is just guys aren't getting it, and guys
are making mistakes and guys aren't playing up to their abilities.
I'll be honest with you, I don't know where in
(08:03):
the world the Veneer's line was on Thursday that like, yeah,
thing was, you're like nonexistent And I'm sorry, Maddie and
as in company, you guys have to be great. You
have to be the best line every night. If you're
not the best line, you better be the second best line.
Non existence, no show the Shane right, comple Coco Yanni
(08:24):
Newman line. Really probably make the argument for the last
two games, has been your best line? Most impactful?
Speaker 2 (08:30):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (08:30):
You know I who's been going to the front of
the net more. It's a very very very very easy answer, right, And.
Speaker 4 (08:36):
I'll say this Coppocco and uh and and Yanni Newman listen,
they'll make a mistake here or there. I you just
got to play the hell out of those guys and
let him get through it. Uh, they're still really players, Shane,
really young player. Chandler Stevenson's got a seventeen point three
goals and three straight. I'm not pointing a finger at him.
(08:57):
There's other guys that are and Lane use this term
a few weeks ago. There are passengers out there. Move them,
get them out, do something, because frankly, you're a really
critical spot right now. This fan base, this fan base
a deserves better ownership, deserves better front office in terms
(09:17):
of those selling tickets that advertised you. They deserve better
from the product on the ice. The hockey team right now,
they've got to be better. And there's no excuse. There
is no excuse for this particular team to be what
is it, one nine and one of their last eleven
and without a regulation win in the month of December, Like,
(09:38):
there's no excuse for that. And there's some guys got
to look there, looked in the mirror. I just it's
it's really hard to watch. And then you know bad
penalties like eleven shots of the forty six I think
it was right, forty six shots on on Thursday. Eleven
of those came on the power play the thirty second
(09:59):
power play the NHL as bad as that power play is, statistically,
you give them four chances they're going to score. At
some point they are five chances, and that's what they did.
They finally scored on their on their fifth opportunity, and
on their eleventh and final power play shot, they scored
a goal. Like there's just so many things that and
(10:19):
I can feel the frustration with laying because I feel it.
You feel it. Every fan feels it, banging your head
against the wall, going what in the world are you
guys doing right now? And what are you doing to
get out of this pump? What are you doing to
make sure that this team doesn't spiral out of playoff
contention by the middle of January? What are you doing
(10:40):
to help the cause right now? There's too many guys
that aren't doing enough.
Speaker 3 (10:44):
By the way, you want to throw this in here.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
Also, as far as who's been doing something, I should
say the Cracking had twenty four hits the other night.
Speaker 3 (10:54):
Nearly half of them came from this line.
Speaker 2 (10:56):
Ian Ty Krcier, Ben Meyers, Jakob Malanson and malansons what
seven hits as well? There's a guy who wants to
keep staying in the lineup and make a difference.
Speaker 4 (11:06):
I play I play him every night, I play them
every single night. I mean, he hits everything in sight.
He's hard to play against. Lane's mentioned that a few times.
We gotta be hard to play against. Well, the hardest
guy to play against is the guy that's gonna like,
you know, you're gonna take his number and look where
he's better every time he's on the ice. You know
he's listen. The fourth line is not the problem. And
(11:29):
whether it's those three or if you want to insert,
you know, I think Winterton's no better than I think
he's a fourth liner for being honest with the like
when he has to move up and when he has
to move up and get top nine or whatever minutes,
that's that's not good. You know, that's just isn't That's
not a guy that the top nine guy. He's a
(11:49):
fourth piner and a good fourth pliner, get penalty killer.
But let's just take that fourth line and out of
fourth and winter Kit. Those guys give you what you want.
They give you what you need for for who they are.
But we shouldn't talk about like no team in the
league talks about the fourth line more than this. None
nobody talks about the fourth one we do in this
in Seattle because that's our only highlight some night is
(12:13):
a fourth line that goes out there as hard to play.
Speaker 3 (12:14):
Again, those have strong implications, man, right, yeah.
Speaker 4 (12:18):
Yeah, it's just one of those. Let me just give
another a couple other shoutouts real quick. I don't think
for the most part, there's a couple of guys that
you could say, maybe you're having it down yere, you're
not maybe doing or developing what we want. But like
I thought, the last two or three games, Genie like
he actually been really good, Like I think he's gonna
I think he's really kind of taking a step. And
(12:40):
I don't know what it is. He's playing more physically,
he's playing bigger, goes to well.
Speaker 2 (12:45):
Fourheads to take away two block shots. Also the block
shot big rig is what we saw in the playoffs
back in twenty twenty three, and it goes to the
net like he does.
Speaker 4 (12:54):
I like.
Speaker 1 (12:54):
I like it.
Speaker 4 (12:56):
Ryan ling Gren gives you everything every single fifty five.
You know what you're gonna get. That's a great stay
at home boom defenseman. I know there's underlying numbers that
don't like him. Watch the damn game and you tell
me the Ryan Langran doesn't help you as a hockey team,
make a difference to the defensive zone. Those guys help you.
You know what twenty nine is gonna give you every night.
(13:16):
And that's just showed restraint Thursday, like thought he was
going to kill what's his face with a humidor right
like I thought he was going to kill him. And
you know he's got that assassined look on his face.
And he didn't like he didn't he knew like, no,
mon tour, I can't do this. I can't go off
for five minutes and Calgary and anybody wearing a red
(13:36):
jersey I want to absolutely assassinate. I get that, But
he didn't. And gins gives you what he's got every night,
and you love his game. I just and Josh for
her Holy smoked. I mean your goaltenders and your deed
for the most part, giving you a chance to win
every night. Where are the top six? Where are the
top nine? It's that simple. And sometimes what they're doing
(13:56):
is they're helping the other team.
Speaker 1 (13:58):
I e.
Speaker 4 (13:58):
What we saw the other day was a turnover. Uh
and they caught you the game winning.
Speaker 2 (14:02):
Goal after Joey the Cord put up I thought one
of the great performances of this season, and he had
to stop anything that moved the other night. I don't
know if you look toward him or Philip Grubauer against
San Jose, but they're going to have their hands full
here handling Macklin celebrity because they come off what are
their more thrilling wins in franchise history.
Speaker 3 (14:23):
There has been.
Speaker 2 (14:23):
Taught that the auror has been restored right back at
the Shark tank, and they control the cut line here
in the Western Conference. So I mean we keep sitting
in big game, big game, big game. Well, I mean
you want to get your morales well back on the tracks,
Let alone the record, go in, rip off two points
in regulation in San Jose and show that this is
all behind you.
Speaker 4 (14:43):
Well, yeah, I don't tell you why that you just
keep doing what you're doing. I mean the rotation spine,
you know, like they just back and forth with those
two guys that Bill, I mean, I you know one
guy's I mean, you know, Joey's had a couple of
nights to Senery's been pulled. Uh, Ruby's been fantastic and
de terms the play. I mean, I I'd go back.
I mean, you're gonna play both of them Monday Tuesday, anyway,
(15:04):
so may I probably go. You probably go groovy Joey
Grooby to finish it off, right, I would think. But
you know, that's again the easiest, the hardest problem you
have right now in the sense is who do you
go with that both guys have been good. Uh, it's
it's again. It's it's really a simple issue like mental mistakes,
(15:24):
mental airs, and it's inability to score goals. I mean,
they score two goals against against Calgary. You should have
scored more. Calgary is a high event team. They generate,
whether's the fourth or fifth most shots in the league.
You can get and then you know you can get
a little bit more to track meet with them, you know.
I mean, I thought Seattle was really good the second
period Thursday and they take a two to one lead.
(15:44):
You're feeling good about yourself and I how you blow
a third period lead? Well, you saw the blueprint for it,
that turnover and then an MPN goal and I think
that's now the seventh goal just to this last ten games.
Like so, there's a lot of games that are stewed
point or score. But I just want tell those other
(16:06):
guys come back healthy. You've got to find a way
to keep this thing at least somewhat above water. And
right now they're not able to do that.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
And they're facing San Jose who is seven points ahead
Maclin celebrity right now in contention for the scoring lead
of just nineteen years of age and showing that he's
already reaching super superstar tier status here in the NHL.
Speaker 3 (16:27):
The goalid thing is going to be interesting.
Speaker 2 (16:28):
Joey to Courd again coming off that performance tying a
career high in saves back on Thursday, nineties three and
four and seven games lifetime against San Jose. Philip Grubauer,
on the other hand, twelve five and one nineteen games
nine to one, seven say percentage against San Jose in
his career, by the way, he had the win last
time in that for the crack in against San Jose
(16:50):
back in the fifteenth of November. The course, this is
going to be a fun one. Ian, we hat the
reset button. You have a good show, my friend. Really
appreciate you in the conversation as always, Man, thank you, captain,
appreciate it. Ian forness you're the man. Mayorra Maple Valley,
host of the Krack and Hockey Network and also one
to three weekdays ninety three three KJRFM. Big thanks once again,
(17:12):
Hope he has a great show here for this evening
and the Crack and looking here to game two of
the trip to finally get back into the win column
after last night's trade sending Mason Marschman to Columbus. They're
looking to take two of three against the San Jose Sharks,
still yet facing some uncertainty as far as offensive contributors
in their lineup. Because Jaden Schwartz, Jared McCann, and Brandon
(17:35):
Montor have combined for nineteen goals this season, they were
all missing from the Kraken lineup Thursday when the Kraken
fell on the Calgary Flames. Schwartz and McCann expected out
longer term right now on ir Montor's ailment officially undisclosed,
oh was caught up in a scrum with Brent Burns.
Speaker 3 (17:54):
Back on Tuesday.
Speaker 2 (17:55):
Head coach Lane Lambert, of course, already expressing a possibility
he could play during the course of this trip. Chadler
Stevenson owning a seven game point streak. One more goal
or an assist gives him a new career high for
longest point run in his career. Plus the crack in
power play starting to really heat up. They've had goals
in five of the last six games. Of course, on
(18:17):
San Jose's side, there's some feel about what they have
turning into a potentially serious playoff contender, as they own
right now the last wildcard spot, seven points ahead of
the Kraken. The nineteen year old wonder Kid they call
Maclin Celebrini lead San Jose in points, goals, assists. He's
third in NHL scoring with fifty three points. His thirty
(18:39):
five assists are two behind the league's leader in Connor McDavid.
San Jose is coming off a five to three loss
to Dallas. This game will be the end of their
three game homestand and also serving as their final home
game before the holiday break. Certainly hope that you can
join us once again this evening seven o'clock puck drop
from SAP Center. We're on air six thirty all across
(19:00):
the Global Credit Union Kraken Audio Network for Ian Furness,
I Mike Betting for cracking this morning.
Speaker 3 (19:06):
Thanks for hanging out and enjoy the game.
Speaker 1 (19:08):
You're home for the Kraken Sports Radio ninety three point
