Speaker 2 (00:12):
The mood for a rematch. Well, it's coming tonight on
the day before Thanksgiving, the krack In take on the
Anaheim Ducks again, second of three meetings coming up. I'll
be with you once again six point thirty airtime on
the Emerro Queen Casino Kraken Audio Network once again back
by the cors Light, landing in section twenty for pregame,
intermission and postgame coverage as well. Ever it fits you
(00:33):
back in the play by play cheer for the radio
side beginning this evening with Al Koniski. They got the
call of a little past seven o'clock Pacific once again
on the Emerald Queen Casino Kraken Audio Network. The Kracking
coming off a three to two win over the Anaheim
Ducks a Honda Center, and we'll talk more about this
here with Darren Brown Aveningshell dot Com and the Sound
(00:54):
of Hockey Crew where this win ranks up plus Benstune's
pending return possibly by the end of this week. Also
with this recent winback on Monday meant for the likes
of Shane Wright and Andre Borakowski, plus a look ahead
here for the game this evening, could potential fireworks be
in store. Darren Brown's comments coming up momentarily cracking right
(01:16):
now in the middle of a busy week four games
in six days before heading out East starting Tuesday, December
third to four on the road against Carolina, the New
York Islanders, New Jersey, and the New York Rangers as well.
This will be by the way matchup number six at home.
The Kraken have won four of five against the Ducks
in Seattle and franchise history, nine to two and one
(01:39):
record they stand all time against Anaheim well flashing back
to Monday, the Kraken had yet to win a game
when trailing after two periods this season until period three,
where they found a spark from a four desperately looking
to get on the board pass in front of McCann
save as mate reading.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
Score Kovsky at the front of the cage. It's his
first goal for the season with nineteen fourteen to go
on the third and it couldn't have come at a
better time. We're tied to two Andrey.
Speaker 4 (02:13):
Verrekovsky leading the charge back to the bench, but all
four players on the ice came in for a big
old hug there. I know what that means to him.
They know what it means to him. And as far
as this game goes, huge goal for.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
The Grand New Game Mantor for the point best GOALSS
Brandon Montor on the face off win with eighteen fifty
left in period three, and the Kraken have turned this
game on its head. In the blank of an eye,
they laying three to two.
Speaker 4 (02:42):
Huge goal there by Brandon Montour. He's got goals in
three straight games now for the first time in his career.
That's a huge one face off win. We've talked about
the face offfs getting better for the Kraken as the
game's gone on. They're well into the sixty percent range
at this point. Montur getting to be in the receiver
get off that face off win going top shelf on
Dostal Dosalt puts his hands up, says, I couldn't see it.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
Screens Andre Berakowski's first goal of the season, tying the game.
Then twenty four seconds later it was Brandon on Tour,
the former Duck defenseman, blasting one right through traffic. Passed
Luke oshto stall Nat standing up as the winner, with
the Kraken ending a streak of five consecutive games without
a win on the road three to two over the
Ducks at Honda Center. That put the Kraken at eleven
(03:28):
ten and one, one point back of the cut line
in the Western Conference, the Ducks coming into this game
eight nine and three with nineteen points. After the game
at coach Dan Bilesma sharing more insights with the.
Speaker 5 (03:42):
Media, Well, I think we were tested. I think, you know,
there's probably three or four bucks in the first two
periods that are around the net, you know, carts is
shot cannon at the net that's behind the goalie. And
we hit a post with that one and a couple
other posts in their sprongers posts, and had had some
(04:05):
opportunities to score some goals, you know, out out chancing them,
out shooting them, but it didn't go. It wasn't going in.
You find yourself down in the game too one going
into the third, and you know you gotta you gotta respond.
I don't, and I you know, I think we kind
of befittingly got it by you know, having a matty
(04:28):
chip the puck in get on the fore check, win
a puck and results in getting a puck to the
net and a dirty goal for Andre who's you know,
had a lot of opportunities to score goals lately and
has it come up with them, And it is probably
not the one he drew up, but probably the one
we needed.
Speaker 4 (04:44):
To get from him.
Speaker 6 (04:45):
What do you think it does for the team, just
momentum wise and energy wise, especially when it's him scoring.
Speaker 7 (04:50):
That goal in that moment.
Speaker 5 (04:51):
I think, uh, you know, the shine right goal and
the goal are both sparked our team and gave us
a boost when they came. But I think you know,
he the the smile on Andrea's face said it all
as he was coming up the ice after that goal.
Speaker 8 (05:13):
Shane was smiling after that. He went to face off
in Montor scored to it. That must have been in
your mind another good point for him tonight.
Speaker 5 (05:21):
I think I think writer got a goal in assist
in this building last year late in the year, and
two goals in assists.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
Yeah, so.
Speaker 5 (05:32):
I I was great to see him, you know, get
on the border early. But I thought he played really
well all game long and and the face off is
just another example of what he what he can add
wins the face off, and you know we've been preaching
shooting the puck and wanting to shoot the puck more money,
lowers the boom and gets the goal for us.
Speaker 6 (05:53):
Did you feel like the lessons you're hoping Shane would
learn from watching from above and some of that, like
you saw some of those lessons come into his game
when he got it back in the lineup the wall.
Speaker 5 (06:02):
Yeah, I think. You know, talk with Shane about, you know,
how he was in training camp and how he played
through the first you know, training camp in the first
few games of the year with confidence and playing with
the puck and using his skating, using his speed, and
I thought, like I thought he was, he was excellent
in just going out and playing and playing the way
(06:23):
he can right from the drop of the puck.
Speaker 8 (06:26):
You face the same team two days. Is there anything
you take away from mister Bringsack Wednesday. I h.
Speaker 5 (06:35):
You know, I think we're just, you know, we have
to be aware and the leary of their skill and
they may be young, but they have a lot of
skill throughout their lineup. And you know, the if you
play a chance for chance game, if you play you know,
if you give them too many opportunities. They demonstrate that
skill over and over again, and so I I think
(06:57):
you know, we fought out, We hard fought a game
out tonight by coming back, but we'd have to be real, uh,
real careful with the skill they have on the ice
and be sure that we're playing our way.
Speaker 9 (07:07):
You don't want to giving up rushes on your power
play back the other way. But Joey, you know on
Saturday and then again tonight, with those stops in the
in the second period, how significant were those?
Speaker 7 (07:18):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (07:19):
I think you know, they didn't have a ton of
opportunities a ton of shots total, but they had some.
They had the shorthanded ones a couple of times, and
and in the thirty Joey got a few more rush
chances and and breakaway chance, and you know he was
he was lights out again.
Speaker 9 (07:38):
Your power play still scuffling some what did what'd you
feel like wasn't working tonight with getting that group going.
Speaker 5 (07:47):
Posting in would have been better than posting out on
on Spronger's goal. But I think you saw a mindset
from the power play really, but right from the first one,
you know, just a little more attacking, a little more
shot focused, and we had we had two in the
first power play that were clear evidence of that Money's
you know, Money fired a couple at the net, and
(08:09):
I kind of got off kilter, I think with the
breakout in the h the latter power plays, and that's
something we want to take care of.
Speaker 8 (08:20):
We talked a lot about winning a lot of different ways.
Tonight was a lot of adversity, yet in that second
period or a lot of back and forth, and you
must have liked the way your team responded, not just
with the score, but.
Speaker 5 (08:33):
Yeah, and I you know there was I think, uh yeah,
I think getting you know, down in the game there.
I think we thought we played a good spirit. I
thought we thought we were getting chances. You know, we're
getting a little frustrated, we're not the opportunities we had.
We weren't putting on the back of the net. When
they get the second goal, you know, that puts you
(08:55):
back on your heels a little bit. And from a
mindset standpoint, but I, you know, there was a lot
going on, I guess at the end of the second
but I thought it. I thought it drew us end
of the game, not the opposite.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
All right, those comments from Cracking Head coach Dan Biosma
the crack and of course not practice seeing yesterday for
the off day. Right back at it again here this
evening in the second game of a home and home series,
and we'll see if there are any sparks, any electricity,
any blown fuses may be after Monday night. Darren Brown
joining us now our friend from NHL dot Com and
(09:29):
the Sound of Hockey crew, Darren, thank you again for
joining us here, my man. First off, where do you
put that win up against others? Back on Monday?
Speaker 7 (09:39):
It was, well, if we're ranking them, I wouldn't rank
at that highly. I think they've had more signature wins
than that one, but you know, they needed that one.
I think I think those are some important points, you know,
get them back above five hundred again. And I think
it's a team that when you look at the schedule,
there's certain games that you don't want to look ahead,
(09:59):
and that's airly, but it's definitely, uh, that's a team
that Seattle needs to beat, right They're they're they're not
that I mean, they're they're in the five hundred range
as well, but they as a team that they need
to beat if they're going to be a playoff cons
under this season. It is an interesting stack up of
this this schedule here with two games against the docksman,
two games against the Sharks. They got to get I
(10:21):
think they have to get three of these four, if
not all four. It feels very important to stack up
a bunch of points here this week.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
Yeah, because you got that road trip as well coming up,
and that could be a beast of a gauntlet to
travel right on through in the crack and they got
to get right back on the play and following the
home and home series here with San Jose Monday night. Though,
back to that again, how much did Shane Wright need
a game like that?
Speaker 7 (10:46):
Yeah, big time. I think. You know, it's always good
to see a guy come out of healthy scratch lands
and and have that kind of spark. It's interesting how
that works too, that sometimes for certain players that does work.
For others, they don't take it the right way. They
come out and they're you know, they're not as confident
as they were when they went up there. It was
(11:07):
obvious before the healthy scratches started that Shane Wright had
kind of lost his way. He wasn't playing the way
he was playing at the beginning of the season. I
think you can plainly see that when you watched him,
and you know, he just wasn't really creating anything when
he had the puck. He didn't keep it, eyes stick
very long, he wasn't going to the right areas. I mean,
it's just all the things that he was doing so
well and so confidently at the beginning of the season
(11:28):
he just kind of stopped doing. And so it was
good to see him come out and have an impact.
You know, it wasn't just him going to the net
there either, Right, he makes it and I'm talking about
his goal obviously, but he makes the play to hold
the puck in the zone twenty or three seconds before that.
That keeps the play alive, and then he goes and
just plants himself in front of the net. And you know,
sometimes when you're struggling, going to the front of the
(11:48):
net is the best thing he can do, and that
proved it. So yeah, I agree with you. I think
it's a huge step for him to have a game
like that with a goal and assist and kind of
remind himself that, yes, he can.
Speaker 2 (11:58):
Play at this level of that he got that face
off when on that big blast by Brandon Montor and
we'll get to Montor in just a little bit here,
But we can't go through everything on Monday night without
recognizing Andre Berrokowski. He finally got one, maybe not off
his trademark shot, but at least is one, and you
have to think maybe a score like that, You get
(12:20):
one and then what happens next.
Speaker 7 (12:24):
Yeah, that's the hope I think. You know it's been
It's been a grind for Andre Berkowski this season, no
question about it. And you know, for as much as
players will tell you that they don't, you know, they're
not that worried about the fact that they're not scoring.
A lot of times, many showers will play well, Lion's
getting chances. I know they're going to come eventually and
things like that. You know, they say the right things,
but you can tell, I mean, it means a lot.
(12:45):
They're they're there to score goals, especially got like Andre
burk Covey, who brought in for his offense. When he
was signed as a big free agent, he was signed
to score goals. So when he's not scoring goals, he
knows that he's not scoring goals, he's not doing what
he's getting paid to do. So it's a. It's a
big deal for him, and as much as he tried
to downplay it after the game, you know, I watched
the interview that he did with Piper Shaw there on
(13:06):
the broadcast and you could just see the relief on
its face. You only get through the line to high
five his teammates. Just getting a goal means a lot
to take the huge weight off your shoulders, and he's
historically a very streaky goal scorer, right, so you have
to think that now that he gets the one, he'll
probably get a couple more and then hopefully that builds
(13:27):
some more. But we will see. I think he's been
playing a lot better over the last few weeks than
he was earlier in the season. He looks more engaged,
he looks more comfortable carrying the puck up the ice.
Now he's playing obviously on the top line too, and
getting a ton of a ton of ice time and
a ton of opportunities. So I think I think it
should be a big positive in terms of his game
(13:47):
moving forward. But we'll see. We'll see what this leads to.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
We'll also see when the krack and get Vince done
back into the lineup, and we saw some positive signs
come out of the road trip when he got back
on ice again to practice with the team, and then
Dan Bilsman offering him a little more clarity as far
as potentially this weekend where Done could be making his
return here to the ice. Here's where the balance comes
in because of how great Brandon Montour has been playing
(14:14):
his pairing with Jamie Alexiak. Darren to you, how differently
do we look at Jamie Alexiak and Brandon Montour as
a pair and with ice distribution, ice time when Vince
Dunn is able to come back and by all assumptions
go right back in with Adam Larson.
Speaker 7 (14:33):
That's one of those good problems to have right where
you're like, how do you how do you get enough
ice time to these two very big defensive pairs. And
I do think that since Done has been out that
Monteur Alexiak pair has kind of taken over the reins
as the top pair. Whether it stays that way when
Done comes back obviously remains to be seen. I'm thinking
(14:54):
they'll probably try to ease him back in a little
bit rather than throwing him right into that true top
pair role. But over time, you got to think that
that still go back to Larson and John is kind
of the top pair. But I mean, where'd the CMD
without Brandon Monture. I think he's for the most part
been their best player this season, you know, I've said
that kind of from the beginning of the season. I
(15:15):
think that he has been everywhere on the ice. He's
lived up to his billing. He's got the shot, he's
got the offense, he's got the defense, and what three
games in a row now he's scored and without his goals,
it's these last few games look very different. So, yeah,
he's been a he's been a huge part. Whether he
continues to be, you know, the absolute top minute guy
(15:37):
or a Vince Done, I don't know if it really matters.
As long as they're both healthy, healthy and they're both
able to contribute, this team looks a heck of a
lot better with both of them in the lineup than
just one of them.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
Darren Brown joining us here from NHL dot Com and
also the Sound of Hockey Crew Darren ahead of the
rematch here for tonight. I go back and look at
the penalties that were called on Monday, interference, roughing, interference, roughing,
slashing as well. Then you have the cards she ate
Leo Carlson. Thing that happened back in the second period.
(16:08):
We saw the fireworks nearly blow up. After that, we
saw Janni Gord out there for a little extra time
sharing his piece of sharing his mind after the second period.
How surprised would you be with fireworks carrying over here
into this evening.
Speaker 7 (16:25):
I wouldn't be surprised, although I don't know if it's
really warranted all that much from the from the Ducks.
You know, I thought that that hit on Leo Carlson
was as clean as it gets. It's really unfortunate the
outcome because he went hard into the net and he
hit his look like he might have hit his head
on the ice too. You never want to see any
player get hurt, especially unlike Leo Carlson, a nineteen year
(16:49):
old kid who's got such an incredibly right future. You
don't want to have any kind of injuries that are
gonna in any way some his development as a player,
because that's good the league. I'm rooting for him. But
on the same token, you know, the the Ducks got
upset about that, But if you go back and look
at it, it's like, well, this isn't even a penalty.
It's just a good, clean hit. And the referees, you know,
(17:11):
even the way that the referee called that one where
he he didn't even put his arm up until Carlson
had slammed into the net and was injured, and the
crowd made a big, big noise and he's like, oh,
I guess they should put my arm up, you know,
like that was really how he called it. I don't
think I didn't even think he saw it, so it
was it was kind of billy, I thought for them
to react that way. But also, once once those tempers
(17:34):
kind of start to flare, even if they're from uh
from the you know, something that is a non factor
in a game exactly can bubble over when you play
that same team again the next game. So I would
not be surprised at all to see some rough housing.
I hope that I hope that nobody on the Kraken
tries to fight rad go buddhis because that's not going
to go well. I don't think for anybody in the Kraken,
(17:56):
but we'll see. I think I think it's kind of
fun that they're playing back to back and then they
do the same thing against San Jose. I kind of
like that.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
Yeah, it's a great way to foster a little bit
of as they say hate, if you want to use
that word here. Rivalries can certainly be born before the
playoffs really get involved for these two division opponents, and
we'll see if that can carry over down the road
deeper and deeper. But they'll have back to back ending
up here for tonight the Ducks. Darren, just the observation here.
(18:24):
We said this during the broadcast. A ton of talent,
but al Koniski brought up during a three key segment,
prone to mistakes and that can be a youth thing.
I think you're looking maybe here for tonight the Krack
and want to get out to a similar star but
with more of the third period gear from Monday.
Speaker 1 (18:41):
What about you.
Speaker 7 (18:42):
Yeah, I think it's kind of one of those teams
where if you can get a couple of goals on
them early and show that you know it's not going
to be an easy one for him, and they will
go somewhat quietly. That's my theory on it. And yes,
they are very young, they definitely are prone to mistakes,
but they also have a lot of offensive talent and
Dan Fousman called that out. You have to be careful
(19:03):
against them because you know, you stop paying attention, you
make a mistake and all of a sudden, the touch
in the back of your net, and then you're chasing
and they're playing with confidence. So I think the key
is a good strong start. But you know, they hit
so many posts in the last game. They got to
convert on some more of those chances they've been I
think a lot of the players are squeezing the stick
pretty tightly right now. You know, don't hit the post,
(19:25):
put it in the net, and that does a lot
of a lot of good for your confidence as the
team and your ability to win a hockey game.
Speaker 2 (19:31):
Thank you for doing this, buddy. Hey, one more game
to go before we hit the break for well a day,
Happy Thanksgiving to you. Very quick question, stuffing creamed corn
or candied yams. One's gotta go?
Speaker 4 (19:42):
What is it?
Speaker 7 (19:45):
Cream corn is an easy one for me, and I
am a big stuffing guy, so I would take that
one over the other two.
Speaker 2 (19:53):
On the table.
Speaker 7 (19:54):
Really, wait a minute, so you're so you're saying I
have to get rid of one of the three.
Speaker 2 (19:58):
Get rid of one of the threes. Stuffing creamed corn
or candied yams.
Speaker 7 (20:02):
Yeah, cream corn forget it doesn't even that wouldn't be
on my table in the worst place.
Speaker 2 (20:08):
You want to you a turkey or ham, guy.
Speaker 7 (20:11):
I liked ham better. I always grew up eating turkey,
so I think that's kind of the tradition. We continue
to eat the turkey, but it's a very dry bird.
I wouldn't say that I'm I'm a turkey comics smoor
by any means. I'm going pretty heavy on the gravy
if I'm eating a lot of turkeys. So yeah, that's
kind of kind of think we would have a creamed
corn people though, either growing up, I don't recall ever
(20:33):
having creamed corn with Thanksgiving.
Speaker 2 (20:35):
It really it really depends on on how you make it.
Speaker 9 (20:38):
You know.
Speaker 2 (20:39):
If it comes out nice and rich and smooth, it
is delicious here. But it really takes a lot of
fine point cooking to get it out the right way.
Speaker 7 (20:48):
So we have some lactose tolerance in my house. Yeah, well,
there's not a good idea.
Speaker 4 (20:53):
There you go.
Speaker 2 (20:54):
Yeah, well that that that's certainly a game changer. Hey,
Darren appreciates you. Please enjoy on our behalf and happy Thanksgiving. Buddy,
appreciate you again.
Speaker 7 (21:01):
Thank you, Mike, and Hey, congratulations on the on the.
Speaker 2 (21:04):
Call out again, thank you, thank you, really appreciate it man.
Speaker 1 (21:09):
Thank you so much.
Speaker 2 (21:10):
Jared, what a fine night that was. By the way,
our props to ever refits you for filling in on
the TV side with John Foreslan out for prime Monday
Night hockey. Also Andrew Surts, fantastic job that he did
in the host chair, by the way, for the game
on the radio side here back on Monday, and the
Kracking getting sep for Anaheim in the second matchup of
three this week, Montor's got a three game goal scoring
(21:32):
streak first time in his career. By the way, he
has hit that high. We'll see who starts the net.
By the way, Joey Decord again play magnificent hockey. Since
late October is ninety two to two save percent is
tied for fifth in the NHL. Philip Grubauer, by the way,
ninety six and one with a nine ZHO three save
percent engine seventeen career games against the Ducks, the Krack
(21:52):
and by the way, sending down Ben Myers to AHL
Coachella Valley. Anaheim also reportedly holding out Leo Carl's from
practice yesterday. Of course, he suffered an upper body injury
in that collision with the goalposts after ty Cartier hit him.
Carlson did not return. Defenseman Tyson Hines recalled from AHL
San Diego on the same day. So gonna be an
(22:15):
interesting one here to unfold this evening the crack and
again taking on the ducks. We have all the action
for you. A little past seven o'clock Pacific time. Everet
fits you al Kiniski from the booth. I'll join you
back by the corpse light, landing in Section twenty with
coverage opening up at six thirty all across the Emeral
Queen Casino Kraken Audio Network PIG Thanks to Darren Brown
(22:36):
for joining us and for kracking this morning. I'm Mike Benton.
Enjoyed the game and Happy Wednesday.
Speaker 1 (22:42):
You're home for the Kraken Sports Radio ninety three point
three KJR FM
