Speaker 1 (00:00):
And the cracking power play lost.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
This is the postgame show, brought to you by Toyota
of Olympia.

Speaker 3 (00:07):
Now for an in depth look at your Kraken Hockey.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
It's the post game on the Global Credit Union Kraken
Audio Network for the.

Speaker 4 (00:16):
Final time tonight, for the final time prior to the holidays,
Welcome back inside of Climate Pledge Arena alongside al Kiniski.
Everett fits you back with you the Krack and lose
yet another frustrating five to three game to the Colorado
Avalanche and again Seattle in this one for the entirety,
with the best team in the NHL. You go back

(00:39):
to the last handful of games for Seattle. You have
a five to three loss with an empty NEP. You
have a three to one loss with an empty NEP.
Five to three loss with an empty NEP. Uh, four
to one, four to three. I mean this is probably
I mean this ranks up there for me as one
of the more frustrating games of the season.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
Knowing how close the crack and word to get.

Speaker 5 (01:00):
In the two points in this one, well and again
once again, you know you, I don't want to see
you look for excuses, but you talk about the sickness.
You talk about the injuries, and you think about this
team when they are fully healthy battling against this Colorado team,
and maybe there's a different outcome. But you know, for
the team that they were able to put on the
ice tonight, I thought that certainly the first two periods
were fantastic for the Kraken. Like I said, the third period,

(01:23):
the first ten minutes, Colorado really turned it on and
it was it was difficult for Seattle to turn it off.
And yeah, that's when that's when Colorado got back in
the game, got the lead and never looked back.

Speaker 4 (01:34):
Coming into the game, the Cracking had seven eight ish
guys out with some type of sickness, and that doesn't
earn battling not out, but battling some type of sickness.
And that doesn't even include Jayden Schwartz Jared mccannon, who
were not even available right in the lineup for Seattle.
So when you're already playing essentially down a man coming

(01:54):
into the game, it does make things a lot more difficult.
But I mean a lot of credit to Philip Groubauer
tonight as well. I mean, he made a number of
big saves for Seattle, probably one or two goals he
would love to have back, but it was another strong
performance for him.

Speaker 5 (02:09):
And then yeah, I thought so, especially early on in
the game, you know those first two periods, which like
I said, were the best two periods for the cracket.
He was a part of that as well, coming up
with some big saves on not just initial but secondary
opportunities that to Colorado had.

Speaker 4 (02:23):
Power play going one for four tonight, So for Seattle
they got power play goals and back to back games
and that's now three four, five six power play goals
in the last five games, so I mean the power
play is coming.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
The penalty kill tonight was three for four.

Speaker 4 (02:38):
The Avalanche scored on their final power play of the game.
Of course, we're hoping that good things were Brandon Montour,
as he left early in the third period, was announced
he wouldn't return, So some positives for Seattle heading in
the Calgary coming up on Thursday night.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (02:54):
I always concerning when a player leaves after a skirmish
or you think they're going for stitches and they don't
return to the game. Montre definitely someone that would want
to get back in the fight. So hopefully nothing too
long term for him.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
Five three Avalanche win. Now back over to you, yeah exactly.

Speaker 5 (03:09):
Key takeaways from me were forty minutes of fantastic hockey
for the Krack and they got bullied a little bit
in the first ten minutes of the third period, but
then battled hard right till the end looking for that
tying goal. With the goal he pulled, we're not able
to do it. Both the power play and the Penley
kill got a little bit better tonight, one for four
on the power play and stopping three of four of

(03:31):
the Colorado power plays, so a little bit better for
both of those. We talked about. Grubauer, his save percentage
ended up being eighty eight nine for the game. I
know he would have liked to have gotten it a
little bit higher, but stopping thirty two of thirty six
and a lot of those big saves came in that
first half of the game. And last key takeaway for
me was Channer Stevenson again a big impact player today.
He's got points now in six games, getting a goal

(03:53):
here tonight. Three stars brought to you by Mama Kay.
That third star does go to Chandler Stevenson with the goal.
He had five shots on goal. fIF the dot and
two hits as well. My man continues to play physical
out there, and I don't know what that's all about.

Speaker 4 (04:07):
We were talking about that on Cracking Weekly yesterday. Yeah,
I mean he's been, he's.

Speaker 1 (04:12):
Been adding a little bit of a.

Speaker 5 (04:14):
Physical Second star goes to Martin Nichis from the Avalanche
to assists plus two and First Star goes to Nathan
McKinnon two goals, one assist, also five shots on ruins.

Speaker 4 (04:28):
That'll do it here for us from the rank and
the final time before the holiday break, and we know
that a lot of people around the rink are cleaning
up this place, exiting the facility. So if you're listening,
thank you so much for tuning in the unofficial first
half of the season. Wish everyone out there a very
happy and healthy holiday season, a merry Christmas, a happy Hanukkah,

(04:49):
joyous Kwanza, happy Festivus, whatever you celebrate, realities, happy holidays,
making a good one for those of you leaving the
rink tonight and for the rest of you, we'll see
you coming up on Thursday night in the Calgary Cracking
kicking off a four game Pacific Division road trip Calgary Thursday,
San Jose Saturday and then back to back Monday Tuesday,

(05:10):
Anaheim and Los Angeles. But for now, across the street
to Tom's, Mike Benton standing by to take you the
rest of the way.

Speaker 3 (05:18):
All right, guys, certainly we think that the krake and
looking forward to getting back on the road and perhaps
getting back on the road could be a recipe to
get this thing turned around. Where this evening it looks
so good after forty minutes, but of course it is.
As they say, a sixty minute game in the avalanche
of the top record in the NHL is certainly serving
a reminder of that despite cracking goals this evening from

(05:39):
Shane Wright, Jordan Eberley, and Chandler Stevenson, all in period two,
but Colorado outlasting the crack and five three year final
score here from Climate Pledge Arena, we are across from
there live at Tom's. Watch par glads, you're with us again,
come on in, hang out if you're around the area,
and we have more to come here as postgame covers continuing,
including our highlights are scores, more reaction including head coach

the next road swing and your reaction text us right

takeaway from this evening's game again four nine four five
one on the KJAR text line and resehears will be

(06:24):

Colorado up one nothing at twelve nineteen of the first

(09:07):
on deflection goal thirteenth on the season, courtesy Martin Atchiez
and Josh Manson and the Krack and looking for punch
Bag got it. In the second period at three zero three,
Shane Wright crashed the blue paint got his sixth goal
in the season, Yonnie Newman compococo with the assist, the
Kracking non stopping there over five minutes in what could
their leadership do from a similar spot and.

Speaker 1 (09:30):
Now the crack in their back age Matty Peers centric
pass in front, want to save the rebound.

Speaker 10 (09:34):
The captain starts.

Speaker 11 (09:41):
Because he Blackwood a highlight reel save in the high slot.
But it's the captain tournin Everly following up the play.

Speaker 1 (09:50):
Seattle with a two on lead in the.

Speaker 5 (09:52):
Second well, it's Manny Pittiers down the left side who
was looking for a past.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
He found out of lars on the fire side.

Speaker 5 (09:59):
Larson with a great shot on gold and she said Blackwood,
which both was gonna be a game savings save makes
it leaves that rebound for the Everly who's crashing.

Speaker 1 (10:09):
The dead He puts it in two.

Speaker 3 (10:10):
One cracket twenty first goal in forty five career games
against Colorado for the captain. Jordan Eberly has double digits
this year. Five to forty eight into period two, Adam Larsen,
Matty Beniers with the assist and m Kracking getting two
goals with then three feet of the goal line, but
Sam Gerard would tie things up at thirteen twenty nine
first goal of the season off a clapper from the

(10:33):
right circle Valarry Nachushkin Brenton Burns as well with the
assist for the kracking getting a laying power play a
late power play here with Ross Colton off to the
box and the power play looking for a response. In
this second period, once again Kelly, it's over into Steve.

Speaker 1 (10:48):
It's at far circle Stevens it looks in.

Speaker 11 (10:51):
The middle shot Davie wander through traffic from the right
side and by Blackwood the.

Speaker 4 (11:05):
Seattle Crockett on the power play.

Speaker 5 (11:08):
Regain the lead three two. Well, this all starts with
a Son incherous speed. Every dishes it over to Stevenson.
They get set upon that half off. Fit's done. Down
to Stevenson, down to twelve Telvenda, down to Stevenson. Stevenson
puts it on dead basin, Marshmans in front for a screen.
I think this one goes straight in three two.

Speaker 3 (11:27):
Kracking Crafty played by Chandler Stevenson, who gets the goal
his seventh on the year. In nineteen twenty four. He's
on a six game point streak and the krack and
power play now with goals in four of the last
five games. Elie t Tolvenen Vin's done with the assist
and the Kracking getting quite the plot twist at nineteen
twenty four period two, taking a three to two lead

(11:47):
into the dressing room over Colorado, but of course there
were still twenty minutes to play. Nathan mckinnonside the game
at two forty of the third twenty seventh goal of
the season, Cale mccarr Martin reach with the assist. Unfortunate
on the Krackens side, that shot bouncing right off of
Adam Larson and in and then m Krakens so close

(12:08):
to regaining the lead, but Jordan every stopped on McKenzie
Blackwood on a penalty shot at seven forty nine. Vince
Dunn then going off to the box and the Avalanche
go to work right back in the power play once again.

Speaker 4 (12:21):
Here's mccarr left side, mckitnon back to mccar McKinnon again
one timer turned away, the rebound in front and Nelson scores.
Philip Grubauer came to his right to make the save,
a little slow getting back to us left and brought

(12:42):
Nelson punching it in the Avalanche their first power play
goal of the tape.

Speaker 1 (12:51):
And they regained the lead. It's now a four to
three Colorado advantage.

Speaker 3 (12:58):
Tough one to take as you call that a chain reaction,
the defensive breakdown leading to the penalty, and then it
didn't take long for Colorado to tally on the power
play a twenty five a period three, Rock Nelson getting
his thirteen goal of the season from Nathan McKinnon and
Calee mccarr to make it four to three. Then McKinnon
would make it five three on an empty net goal,

(13:20):
completing a two goal, three point effort in period three,
and McKinnon's twenty eighth on the year to lead the
NHL coming at nineteen thirty six from Valeria Nichushkin and
Gabriel Landeskog to rap matters up Colorado five. Cracking three
is your final score, your final totals right now, shots
on goal even at thirty seven a piece. As we said,

(13:42):
the crack and power play once again finding a way
to cash in. They go one of four, but Colorado
coming up with a big power play goal on their
side as well. They go one for four on the
man advantage, that turning into the eventual game winner. Tough
as well for Philip Grubauer, who have points terrific in
this game and a big reason why the Kraken were
in the conversation, but he takes a loss here in

(14:03):
this one. Mackenzie Blackwood picks up the win, Blackwood turning
in a thirty four save effort to his record, improving
to ten one and one on the season. Grubauer taking
the loss thirty three saves on thirty seven shots. His
record is now four three and one on the campaign.
We'll also keep an eye out here for Brandon Montour

(14:25):
so to speak, once again wrapped up in a scrum
involving him and Brent Burns as well. Montor would not
return as well to the game and the crack and
trying to find a way to plug that hole late
in the third period. Unfortunately unable to rally right back,
and they're hoping that the loss of Brandon Montor certainly
is short lived. Here in this one time now for
the cors Light Chillis moments of the game, Cracking fans,

(14:47):
you can win your chance of sitting the Corslight silver seats.
Go to courselight dot com forward slash Seattle Cranken to
enter must be twenty one years of age. No purchase necessary, cores, light, juice, chill,
se break responsibly. The first period can be a big
tone setter for Colorado a lot this season. And the
Kraken trying to find a way to move momentum right

(15:10):
back against the Avalanche in this situation.

Speaker 1 (15:13):
Mason Marshman down the right side, that shot kicked away black.

Speaker 4 (15:17):
Blackwood put back over the cage again the Mackenzie Blackwood.

Speaker 1 (15:20):
We'll cover that up for the whistle.

Speaker 3 (15:23):
That was big because Colorado has been such a good
team as far as getting an early goal for much
of the season. Martin h is also a big part
of that. But the Craken turning Page down the other
way and that was certainly a tone setter from the
get go to get the crack of moving in the
right direction. End of the second period the cracking down
won nothing and again looking for one of their up

(15:44):
and coming forwards to make a big difference in the
area where they want to score a lot of goals
this season.

Speaker 1 (15:50):
And now cock O Cocko a three on two back
hit for Seattle.

Speaker 4 (15:53):
Cocko cock go to the air side, docked out Shane
Wright fires knocked away by Blackwood rebound.

Speaker 1 (15:58):
It's in base go.

Speaker 5 (16:06):
Shane right right in front the first shot off the post.

Speaker 1 (16:10):
Shane Wright follows up the rebound.

Speaker 3 (16:12):
We're tied one.

Speaker 1 (16:14):
One, sixteen fifty seven to play in a second.

Speaker 5 (16:18):
But great off the rush scoring opportunity for seattlest they
gave offensive zone entry if Shane Wright gets that puck
on debt with.

Speaker 10 (16:27):
Joanny Newman going hard the debt, Jonnie.

Speaker 5 (16:29):
Newman shovels the puck towards the blue paint, but it's
Right that finds it.

Speaker 1 (16:34):
It gets it past Blackwood.

Speaker 3 (16:35):
This game is tied at one, and that was big
for Shane Right, who's out of a ten game goal
scoring drought now with that goal. Had a great look
as well back in period three, the McKenzie Blackwood turning
him away, but Shane Wright's skull helping set the tone
for period two for the Kracking offensively digging away in
the blue paint. He got one there. Jordan every also
got one there later on, as Shane Wright's skull tied

(16:58):
the game at one at three three before chaosin suited
offensively in period two and the krakend coming so close
but falling short in period three five to three to Colorado.
Once again your final the big Wins brought to you

Speaker 5 (17:26):

goals in the third period and the Red Wings holding
off the New York Islanders Freed two to brink It

Four nine four five one is where you can reach
us right now with your takeaway from this evening as
a crack and fall five three to the Colorado Avalanche.
And this was tough because the crack and we're in
it nearly to the very end, holding a lead through
forty minutes of play, but Colorado, with one more big burst,
got that one across the finish line first. So what's
your takeaway? Four nine four five one. We are live

(34:30):
from Tom's watchbar and gonna jump into it right now
on talk and crack him sitting with me. My co
pilot is andrews Hers. He'll be along here sporadically throughout
the entire season. Once again. You can also hear him
week days also throughout time to time in the host
chair right here at ninety three three KJRFM. Andrews. I'm
just gonna get to this right now where it's a

(34:51):
different field than say, versus Sunday ninth. The Buffalo game
was one where you're thinking you're playing well enough, but
you can't push the pucket to the line here for
any kind of finish. And yet that was a game
where you felt like you left so much on the
table for a game like this against Colorado, where we
said two nights ago you had to play nearly the

(35:13):
perfect game. Here's the funny part. They weren't playing the
perfect game, and they still had themselves in position and
nearly pulled this off against Colorado and they walk away
now empty handed.

Speaker 24 (35:22):
Yeah, And if you look at like those two games,
it's the perfect dichotomy of the crack in this season
because but against Buffalo, it's like you have the talent
upper hand and you don't have to do much to
really get yourself in position to win the game and
play a better hockey game, and they just I think
they almost took it for granted in that game. But
in this one in Colorado, they knew they were going

(35:44):
up against a juggernaut and an historically really really good team,
and they played a good enough hockey game for the
majority of this game to win the game. And it's
just little moments in the game, whether it's the penalty
kill at the end, whether it's the penalty shot missed.
There's lots of little moments and point two that they
didn't get it done. And that's what it comes down

(36:04):
to against these really really good teams with tons of fires,
and if.

Speaker 3 (36:07):
You want to have a chance in this game, you
had to find a way to get again goals and
get action as well, right back at the front of
the net. And you know, you go right there in
period one very early on, and I think for me again,
the oh no, hold on moment was right at the
opening face off. Colorado was so good historically in getting
a goal in the first ninety seconds the first sixty
seconds as well, and guess who they put out the

(36:29):
McKinnon line. Your first big test came right smack at
the opening bell on the Crack and nearly put one
away to make it one nothing. But then the second
period told us a lot as far as where they
got to go for offense. Shane Wright found one, Jordan
Eberley also found one, and for Everly that was a
leadership goal. And I think once again I go back
to this a template, a template here for the first

(36:50):
ten minutes, and that's how you have to play game
in and game out this season.

Speaker 24 (36:55):
Yeah, it's just it's one of those where we probably
said it too far off to the season where you
don't want to talk about moral victories or anything like that, right,
and when you're in a skid like the Crack and
are right now, you can't really take moral victories because
the result is the only thing that matters. But if
you're talking about a blueprint to continue to play that
way and to start to get results in other games today,

(37:17):
is one of those days where I think the Cracking
can model a lot of what they did and they'll
start to get they'll turn it around.

Speaker 10 (37:24):
They will definitely turn it around.

Speaker 24 (37:26):
This Avalanche team, like you said, you have to play perfect,
and they didn't tonight, but it was about as close
to perfect as we've seen them play in the last
couple of weeks.

Speaker 3 (37:33):
It kind of gives you a little bit of solace.
And again you're not looking for moral victories. And this
because the gap just got wider and the Cracker and
are going to go to bed seven points back of
the cut line here in the Western Conference, and we're
just about and right now nine days away from Christmas.
So again, you gotta get it going here very very
very quick, because I think we all know the deeper
you get, the more urgent that every game certainly turns

(37:55):
into as far as a level. But I go back
and think of if you can keep the read to
a preferably to one, you're you're in a good spot.

Speaker 10 (38:03):
You have to stay out of the box.

Speaker 3 (38:04):
But yet in Colorado you give them a couple of
power plays, especially in the second period, and the Krack
can find their way out of it. You think They've
got a puncher's chance here in this one, and yet
they get three goals, took a three to two lead.
You had to figure the Avalanche were coming, Yeah, and
they were. I think we all saw once again why
Nathan McKinnon is in the conversation for best player on

(38:25):
the entire planet right now. He's got an extra gear.
But I think to me, the big plot twist, the
difference maker in this one, the Jordan Everly penalty shot.
That one stuff.

Speaker 24 (38:35):
Yeah, it's unfortunate because you hate to pin so much
of it on one guy and making one play to
kind of put this game away. But that would have
I think done that to be completely honest, and Jordan
owned it after the game. We'll hear from him a
little bit in a second, but he talked about how
he needs to do that and that that's those are

(38:56):
the plays that you need to make. And we we
talk about playing perfectly again Colorado. Hitting those penalty shots
is what's gonna, you know, make the difference in the game.
Not giving the puck away to start a power play
to have the game winning goal for Colorado and late.

Speaker 10 (39:12):
In the third period.

Speaker 24 (39:13):
It's those little plays that maybe against lesser teams you
don't get punished. But when you have the McKinnon's, the mccars,
the natchis Is, the Landeskogs and the Chusians, there's so
many people that can burn you. Brock Nelson ended up
getting the game winning goal for Colorado. You just can't
give them more and more opportunities. And the Kracking right
now are doing.

Speaker 3 (39:31):
That because again you figured that. You know, if you're
gonna try to key on something again, you want to
focus on their depth. There's a huge drop off on
the avalanche side with goals scoring. And again, the only
thing that's gonna sink in that case is say if
McKinnon or Kale mccar go wild and they did him,
they weren't getting that extra gear first, a second perier
and you thought the Kraken had that puncher's chance. As

(39:53):
a result, they were looking flusher, but then mistakes opening
up scoring opportunities here for Colorado, and when their depth
starts to get things going and they kick in, that's
where you're in danger.

Speaker 10 (40:04):
Yeah, And there's two ways to kind of look at
games like this.

Speaker 24 (40:07):
There's there's the kind of the like we talked about
the blueprint and and the way you play generally, you
were creating chances, you were defending well. Uh and the
general play of the team I think was good enough tonight,
Absolutely good enough on most nights that will get you
two points. But it's the little things in big moments
that made the biggest difference. And sometimes you play really

(40:30):
well but then have a couple of mistakes that burn you.
And sometimes you don't play really well, but you don't
make the big mistake and you come out on top.
It's it's one of those situations where the crack and
can't seem to put it all together for sixty minutes
in this stretch that they've been on lately. So until
they figure how to do that, they're gonna continue to
drop points here and there. And hopefully, like I said,

(40:51):
if they play like they did tonight on Thursday, they're
gonna win. They're gonna win. They're gonna win the game.
But unfortunately they just can't put it all together.

Speaker 3 (40:59):
Right now, you're down there, what was the mood in
the room and how do we read into it?

Speaker 10 (41:03):
Man, that was a weird situation. I have been covering
cracking games.

Speaker 24 (41:06):
This would be my third year of you know, being
a presence in the locker room and kind of around
players and coaches at a semi regular basis. And that's
the weirdest situation that I've been around. Lane Lambert was
very you heard him, We just heard it in the
last segment of Network post game, very one word answer.
They only took questions from one guy, even though there

(41:28):
was a cue of questions from a bunch of different people.
He just wasn't having any of it tonight. And I
don't know, I can't speculate to what's going on in
that locker room. I think it's going around a little
bit though, because it's frustration that's building up. They feel
like they should have won this game, and it's a
feeling that is happening far too often where they're making
mistakes even though they're playing well enough to win games,

(41:52):
but the mistakes are just kind of preventing them from
getting those two points night in and night out. So
I think maybe it was just frustration boiling over for
Lane Lambert.

Speaker 10 (42:01):
But I don't know.

Speaker 24 (42:02):
Well, we'll see kind of in the next days, hours, weeks,
you know, what is looking like is happening. But something
has to change because they're continuing to skid and it's
not good enough right now.

Speaker 3 (42:13):
One win in ten games right now, that's where they're cranking.
Are at four nine four or five one Texas right
now in the KJR tex line again four nine four
five one. We're gonna also hear from Jordan Everley later
on here one here for the four to two five,
asking about any updates on Brandon Montor and unfortunately he
can't have the best player go down like that. That
from the four to two five. And in case folks

(42:33):
you missed a Lane Lambert, we heard him toward the
very end of our network coverage as well, he said
no update right now on Brandon Montor. He was involved
in that scrap at Brent Burns. But I mean, as
of right now, you're holding your breath, Andrews. I think
we all saw the effects of when you aren't able
to put the guy we're in sixty two on the ice,
especially for a critical third period where any big play

(42:57):
can result in a game twisting goal and get that
thing tied up.

Speaker 22 (43:01):
Well.

Speaker 24 (43:01):
It's funny because he's kind of the emotional leader on
this team, it feels like, and he responds in big
moments when his team needs him and in that moment,
he responded to when his team needed him. When Mason
Marchman went to the goal, got pushed into the goalpost,
that was a little bit of a cheap shot.

Speaker 10 (43:16):
And then Brent Burns comes in.

Speaker 24 (43:18):
Brandon Montur's standing up for his guy, and you could
tell there was an energy that was infused into the team.
But then because of the moment that Brandon Montour steps in,
he's unable to play for the rest of the game,
and you were missing that presence, the guy that's just
there in the big moments to answer the bell, whether
that's a goal, a hit, a block, shot, a key pass,

(43:38):
a back check, there's so many different things that he
does well for this team, and unfortunately, yeah, you're right,
they hurt not having him out there in the last
few minutes of the game.

Speaker 3 (43:48):
Again, fifty four seconds into period three, Brent Burns double
minor for roughing Mason Marchmant, double minor for roughing Josh Manson,
double minor for roughing. Same goes for Brandon Montour as
well in the crack and again losing him in period three.
Lane Lambert with no update as far as what he
said on montor right now by the end of the

(44:09):
knife from the four to two five is saying great game,
great effort here by the boys, but disappointing as a
result here with a bit of an annoyance as well.
They held their own against the best team in the league.
That rematch years should be fun that from the four
to two five. It's not gonna happen though until March,
and if you're the cracking right now, you're hoping that
you can get your game geared right back up for

(44:29):
the one in Colorado, which they're hoping it matters, and
that will be the regular season finale. It's crazy here
to think that they're not gonna go to Colorado until
game eighty two of the regular season. That's really weird.

Speaker 24 (44:41):
His schedule is always weird, and the manners crying out exactly,
and it feels like every NHL team's complaining about the schedule,
whether it's back to backs here or four game weeks there,
six game road trips, whatever it is. I don't think
anyone has more to complain about the the Kraken based
on their travel schedule, but it's I don't know, this
team doesn't feel like in terms of if we're zooming

(45:02):
in game by game basis, it doesn't feel like they're
that far away from being where they need to be. Well,
obviously you can zoom out look at you know, the
roster construction, all that kind of stuff. We'll take, we'll
look at those questions when the offseason comes around. But
right now, on a game by game basis, it just
seems like it's little things that are keeping them from
getting the two points night in a night out.

Speaker 3 (45:24):
Some reaction here from Twitter and X with Phil chiming
in saying cracking got more energy, got more grit here
for this evening, but the moments where high skills team prevails,
the Apps just got it done here for this evening. Again,
that from Phil on Twitter and next even saying injuries
are beginning to show right now. Losing top scores. Yeah,
unfortunately it's a mismatch against a fire powered team. That

(45:46):
from Stephen on Twitter and X. Again, it seems like
that we're just kind of refreshing the question here each
and every night, how much does this team miss Jared
McCann and Jayden Schwartz as well. We ran these numbers
again back in pregame. That's right now, find seventeen percent
of your entire goal scoring with McCann and Schwartz out
of the lineup.

Speaker 24 (46:04):
Yeah, and when you're a team built on depth, as
the Krack and are, they're not gonna have the forty
goals scorers or the point per game one hundred point guy.
You're built on a bunch of guys contributing night in
and night out. You don't know who it's gonna be.
When you're missing a few of those guys, that takes
away from the depth. And one nice thing about having

(46:26):
the high skill Nathan McKinnon's of the world. Obviously every
team wants them, but it's harder to find them is
you can go through injuries but rely on a guy
night in and night out to provide create offense. Yea
and the Kracking unfortunately don't have that right now. So
and it's not the worst thing in the world when
you do have all of your guys, when you have
the Jared McCanns, the Jane Schwartz is right, but right

(46:47):
now they don't, so you can't. You don't have something
to rely on when you're playing poorly, when you have
guys injured to just come in and make a difference
and be like, no I'm carrying us over the finish line.
They don't have one of those.

Speaker 3 (46:58):
So this is also a game I would have been
really curious to see Berkeley Catton and how he would
have been reacting here, because if there's one thing that
Lane Lambert from what I have you know and just
in learning about this, is that if you're a player
as a center, I mean this goes for every every
guy like Chandler ste even Send, Maddy Vanier, Shane Wright
as well. If you can handle the puck with confidence,

(47:19):
you're gonna get more playing time. That justifies you getting
top six icee time. That to me is the reason
why Berkeley Catton was getting more ice time before he
was knocked out with his injury. But you see more
assertedness in his game, more confidence here with the puck.
But this would have been so much fun to see
him wheel against Colorado, of course with some restraints as well,
but for a player where you've got to play confident

(47:41):
against the very confident team.

Speaker 24 (47:42):
Yeah, and a team that allows open ice like Colorado
does because they wanted to be a back and forth
game and.

Speaker 3 (47:46):
They were getting killed at one point in transition exactly.

Speaker 24 (47:49):
And that's one of the reasons why I think the
Crack can actually match up pretty well against Colorado all
things considered, right, they are a very good team. But
I think this type of team that the Crack and
play against the fast back and fourteen, they can stay
in those games pretty well, especially for goaltending plays like
I did tonight. By the way, Philip Grubauer, we're gonna
get to more asuable efforts. So yeah, I think it
would have been nice to see Berkeley Catton in this game.

(48:10):
Another playing on the youngsters theme, I was very impressed
with Yannie Newman tonight.

Speaker 10 (48:14):
Yeah, I think he was getting in the dirty areas. Now.

Speaker 24 (48:17):
I know his skating is a little left to be desired,
so to speak, but I love his NetFront presence. He
takes shots, he hits guys. I like to see him
play a little bit more. He was part of that
Shane Wright line that had a lot of success tonight.
It was him, Cocko and Wright, and I think all
three of those guys had good, good games that you
could be proud of tonight. So I'm interested to see

(48:40):
how that kind of lends itself to development, because he
could be one of those guys where it's like you're
looking for a finisher right now, especially without Jared McCann.

Speaker 10 (48:48):
If he starts to shoot the puck four or.

Speaker 24 (48:49):
Five times a night like shots on goal, I mean,
obviously you're gonna have more shot attempts, but I hope
that that's gonna be something where he can build off
of that in his career.

Speaker 3 (48:59):
As manas ice time for him eleven twenty six, five
shot attempts as well, with three shots on that. But
it was a little plays I saw with them using
his big body that's so effective when you face a
team like the Colorado Avalanche, where I mean, hey, no surprise,
Nathan McKinnon. You give him chances to give him open ice,
he's gonna do what he does best. Two goals, three
points all in period three. He had twelve shot attempts

(49:22):
in this game, my goodness. And then Calee mccarr in
just twenty two minutes and forty eight seconds of ice time,
light night for him, he had two assists as well.

Speaker 24 (49:32):
Yeah, it's just it's funny because you mentioned that they
weren't necessarily hitting their stride going all out. It seemed
like they weren't taking over the game like they normally
can and then you look at the box score, it's like, oh,
two points here, two points there, just on a light night. Yeah,
light knights worked for Nathan McKinnon to two points, ten
shot attempts or twelve. I guess you should say, I

(49:53):
just it's crazy, man, how good these guys are, how
much they drive offense. I also think Jared Benar from
Colorado deserves a lot of credit. He puts in really
good situations. But the Kracking weather the storm. For the
majority of tonight, it was just I keep going back
to little mistakes, and I think Lane Lambert is starting
to get a little bit frustrated with those kind of

(50:14):
coming up because the way you play, you played well
enough to win this game.

Speaker 3 (50:19):
And if you if you do something, your right thing
is to say the first period once again as a
blueprint for how you've got to operate and play game
after game after game. You take the loss. It's tough here,
but you've got to save something here from from this one.

Speaker 24 (50:31):
And by the way, something that has been a trend
during this stretch that was stopped tonight was the poor starts.
The Kracking came out ready to play. You mentioned it
on that first shift, almost getting a goal themselves. They
it seemed like they had a little fire underneath them.
Maybe it was from the motivation from the last couple
of weeks. Maybe it's more of a hey, we we

(50:52):
need to start getting results for the way we're playing.

Speaker 10 (50:55):
But that is a trend that was bucked tonight, so
I was happy to see that.

Speaker 3 (51:00):
Mike Benton Andrews searst with you. We'll take a break.
More reaction, including Captain Jordan Everley coming up after this.
This is Talking Cracking on ninety three to three KJRFM.

Speaker 2 (51:10):
If you've got to come in about tonight's cracking game,
make sure we hear about it. Just text us at
four nine four five one. Now back to Tucking Kracking
with Mike Benton on Sports Radio ninety three point three
kJ r FM.

Speaker 3 (51:24):
Five to three. Crack and follow the Colorado Avalanches. We're
back live, but Tom's watchbar Mike Benton Andrews first, also
along here for the ride. Let's check in here for
more reaction earlier tonight yours Captain Jordan Eberley after the game,
how the Cracking are back.

Speaker 25 (51:44):
Its obviously not the results you want, but I thought
you guys are up pretty well.

Speaker 1 (51:47):
What do you see from the start you guys had tonight.

Speaker 25 (51:50):
Yeah, I mentioned the most part we played their game
were with him. You know, comes down to I'm miss
sim Philly shot plus would.

Speaker 2 (51:58):
Take the lead and.

Speaker 3 (52:00):
They score, uh a power play right after.

Speaker 10 (52:03):
I mean it's the difference right there.

Speaker 25 (52:05):
These games are tight. I think most of the games
have been you know, a mistake here, capitalize on chance here,
and tonight came down from me that. I mean, I
gotta find a way.

Speaker 1 (52:14):
To put that in and give speed.

Speaker 22 (52:17):
Join you go ahead.

Speaker 2 (52:19):
You guys are you know, get one of the power play.

Speaker 11 (52:21):
But just their special teams and you know, Apparently what
makes it them so tough to you know.

Speaker 1 (52:25):
Break through.

Speaker 25 (52:26):
I mean they're aggressive. They you gotta move the put
quick and I mean they're I think they're number one.

Speaker 1 (52:31):
In the league.

Speaker 25 (52:32):
So you know, they they just they connected. They they
pressure and the pressure and the pressure you gotta just
move it quick. So I mean we were able to
find one.

Speaker 10 (52:39):
But obviously you get a chance.

Speaker 25 (52:41):
You know that the apparently shot too. But yeah, I
mean it's just for us right now. It's coming down to,
you know, work every game, it's just one play here,
one play there, capitalize and where it's going the wrong
way course.

Speaker 22 (52:52):
Right now, join you guy. A strong knight from Philip
Grubauer again you missed liked what he did tonight.

Speaker 3 (52:58):
Yeah, he played well.

Speaker 25 (52:59):
He gives chance to win for sure.

Speaker 10 (53:00):
It made some huge shaves.

Speaker 3 (53:02):
He's done that earlier. That's the word from Captain Jordan
Everley earlier this evening as a crack and fall five
to three here to the Colorado Avalanche, a little bit
of looking inside himself, but also you can send some
accountability that once again is shared across this room. Again,
Mike Bent and andrews Hurst with you. One of my
favorite phrases from him is the line is super razor thin,

(53:26):
just paraphrasing this as far as the margin of air
here in the NHL. And again we're just kind of
refreshing this point where it just seems as if there
were a few more mistakes where you could think, oh,
this might be the point of doom. But yet the
Kraken found a way for opportunity against a team where
you can't make many mistakes against. And the prescription was

(53:46):
nearly mistake free, perfect game hockey. And that's how so
close they were here for tonight.

Speaker 24 (53:51):
Yeah, and it's unfortunate that it feels like the Crack
can have to play a perfect game of hockey to
come away with victories right now.

Speaker 10 (53:59):
But that's the reality of it.

Speaker 24 (54:00):
And sometimes when you're in these like ruts you have,
it's little things that turn into that start to snowball,
that turn into big moments and it just seems like
everything is kind of going against you and you can't.
You have to do everything you can to avoid those
little moments to try and get out of it. And
then when you're you're playing well, it seems like even
if you make a mistake, it's not it doesn't come

(54:23):
back to bite you. And then other teams, you know,
mistakes get magnified, right, So you just go through those
lolls during a season. But he's completely right, especially the
way this team is constructed. They play low event hockey,
they have to avoid they try to play, they try
to be hard to play against. And when you're kind
of built that way and you give up too many opportunities,

(54:46):
it's it's gonna be tough to get overcome at that point.

Speaker 3 (54:49):
More reaction from Twitter and x from the handle w
h or a w Harrison fifty one. They were a
lot more fun to watch the night, but key mistakes
and key moments doom them yet here for this evening
and for the Handle Warrior Underscore Coast, Shane Wright's got
to play more. Philip Grubauer has earned more starts here
and the start of the season. Unfortunately it just slipped

(55:10):
by the wayside here for the Crack and I did
want to touch on Groubarier because we're getting short on time.
But this evening look fantastic and now you get I
think you believe he's back in the conversation for more starts,
especially with the krack in facing a crunch schedule before
and after the holiday break. Yeah.

Speaker 24 (55:26):
Look, I'm a huge Joey fan, but and I've been
a huge fan of him being the undisputed number one.
But the way Philip Gruenbauer's played his last three four
or five starts, he's deserved to get some more time
in the crease.

Speaker 10 (55:38):
So I definitely think that's in the conversation.

Speaker 24 (55:43):
He's keeping you in games and he's playing to the
level of a starting goaltender right now.

Speaker 3 (55:48):
I really didn't find much fault on the first goal.
From my angle, it looked like that like an instead
of screen the crack It had a defender as well
in the lanes, so you can't fault in for that one.
The second goal maybe maybe not.

Speaker 10 (56:01):
It was open.

Speaker 3 (56:02):
It was an open look for Sam Gerrard. But the
third one as well, that's nearly impossible, where a shot
on the Kinnon which was going wide that all of
a sudden takes a weird care him off of Adam Marson.

Speaker 24 (56:11):
And then well, and you're facing a team that I
think average is the most shots in the NHL, in
the Colorado Avalanche. So the more just in terms of
quantity that you're facing, you're bound to let in more
and more, which is another reason why you want to
start create more offense. Right it's a quantity versus quality
sort of situation, so you're bound to have that happen.
As save percentage was still above nine hundred tonight, and

(56:33):
I absolutely I think that's good enough. And I know
that's kind of a basic statistic to look at, but
he kept doing this game and he gave you a
chance to win.

Speaker 3 (56:41):
So here's where the Kracken want to get the U turn,
going against Calgary, a team who has been struggling. That's
up next here as they open a four game road
trip ben Calgary on Thursday night. They had one four
or five to catch up with the Kraken, but San
Jose stopped them dead in their tracks. And Dustin wolf
the former ever a Silverton, he had been struggling to
begin the season. Calgary was in the basement and maybe

(57:03):
even in Gavin the Kenna talk here for the NHL Draft,
But Wolfe's a big reason why he dried them right
back into the race, but before they lost earlier this
evening here to San Jose.

Speaker 24 (57:12):
Yeah, kind of the opposite of the cracking season, right
they start off really really cold and they've really come
onto it as of late. So hopefully that's a good
time for the Cracking to get back off the schnight again.

Speaker 3 (57:20):
San Jose six Calgary three was your final score. And
because San Jose won that game again to remind you
of the Kraken right now seven points back of the
cut line by the end of the saving record now
twelve thirteen and six thirty points, the Kings and Sharks
sharing thirty seven points for the two wildcard spots right
now in the Western Conference. Colorado with a win tonight,

(57:42):
improving to twenty four to two and seven on the
campaign Andrews, time was short, it flew by, and let's
get you back on here hopefully on the more two
point terms in the crackt Yeah.

Speaker 10 (57:54):
Let's hope we start to bring some better luck our way.

Speaker 3 (57:57):
Thanks for having me on, Mike anytime, you're gonna be
jumping back your looking forward to it as well. That
we'll do it from here friends again, thank you for
your reaction. Our thanks also to Travis Mulger, technical director,
Terry Ryan, our on site engineer, as that will do
it for here. For Andrewshurst, this is Mike Benton and
for Everett Now saying goodnight from Climbing Pledge Arena and
Tom's Watchbar. Thank you for joining us. Your final score

(58:19):
once again before a sold out crowd of seventeen thousand,
one point fifty one, the Colorado Avalanche five and the
Seattle Kraken three. This is Tucking Kraken on ninety three
to three KJRFM
