Speaker 1 (00:00):
And the Kraken power play Lord.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
This is the postgame show, brought to you by Toyota
of Olympia. Now for an in depth look at your
Kraken hockey. It's the post Game. I'm the Global Credit
Union Kraken Audio Network.
Speaker 3 (00:16):
For the final time tonight, Welcome back inside of Climate
Pledge Arena alongside al Kiniski Ever fits you back with
you my goodness to Seattle Kraken. A third period comeback
coming up just short.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
Mama, gonna go that man again.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
Cole Kawfield his second two goal overtime winning performance over
the Kraken, his third two goal overtime winning performance of
the season, and his second goal game in the last
three with two goals. I mean his name is now
goal Cawfield, the cracking, a massive third period rush and
(00:56):
it comes up short here in overtime.
Speaker 4 (00:57):
Yeah, absolutely, And you know are you watched the play
of Cole Cawfield's game winning goal in overtime, and you
know he and Berkeley Catton were in a fifty to
fifty puck and Catton, looking for the breakaway, tried to
chip it away. Calfield got it passed him fifty to
fifty puck and Vince Dunn played him to the outside
just like any top defenseman would. Yeah, got him below
the goal line even and Joy to Coord's got to
(01:19):
read is he is he coming around the back of
the net.
Speaker 5 (01:22):
Is he going to try and stuff it?
Speaker 4 (01:23):
He started to go behind the net, Joey to Cord moved,
opened up half an inch and Cole Cowfield stuffed it
in what was what was given to him.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
I was gonna say, you know, it happened in Montreal
two weeks ago, the first time the Cord was caught leaning,
and I think whenever Cawfield's got the puck on his stick,
you have to know he's so shifty.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
He has that little stutter step that he loves to do.
Speaker 3 (01:47):
Decord held that right post, that far post, as tight
as he could, and he reached behind him and then
again just able to get.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
It past him.
Speaker 4 (01:56):
Yeah, he held that post for as long as he
could until he thought, I have to start to lean
to the other side because he might try a wrap round.
He pulled off that post, and then when he realized
Caulfield was coming back, he tried to get back on
the post. And that time between that push and that
comeback was enough time for him to jam that pucking'.
Speaker 3 (02:12):
The Kraken turned a whole lot of nothing into something
here today Brandon Montour two third period goals, adding an
assist three points tonight. He now has three hundred points
in his NHL career. You know, for the Kraken, in
the first what forty five minutes and fifty five seconds
(02:33):
of this game, it seemed like the Kraken could could
not find any inch of room.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
What changed in your mind in that third period?
Speaker 4 (02:43):
Yeah, I think it's what we talked about between the
second and the third, which is traffic in front of
the net, which you know, all three of those goals
were traffic in front of that They had, they had
double layers of screens, they had guys in front of
Dobeesha's eyes. Yeah, funneling pucks to the net. It wasn't
just you know, we talked about shots that were getting through,
but Dubesh saw them all the way through. You didn't
see these shots as well in the third period. So
(03:05):
the combination of fundling puckst in the net and traffic
to the net was the biggest difference. But it definitely
wasn't a goaltender's night. Now, both these goaltenders sub nine
hundred save percentages on a very low shot total on
both sides. It ends up being twenty one a piece
for both teams, but four goals from Montreal and three
for Seattle.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
Are you satisfied? Are you happy with this one?
Speaker 3 (03:26):
Knowing how it started, they managed to salvage a point,
or is it you never should have been in this
position in the first place.
Speaker 4 (03:33):
Yeah, I mean you can think about it that way.
You can think this team battled to get a point
and almost two. You love the no quit mentality there
in the third period, but you're right, you know, two
periods of hockey. You know, maybe you shouldn't have been
in that position. And I think that, you know, this
team's got to learn that when they play teams like Montreal,
(03:54):
youngest team in the league, fast team, they've got to
find a way to combat that a little bit more
with physical play, with you know, better back checking. And
I think it got away from them there a little
bit in the first half of the game, crack and
fall four to three.
Speaker 3 (04:08):
In overtime, they do salvage a point at least, so
they keep a two in the lost column. They are
now five two and three on this young season through
ten games and before we go out, now that we're
ten games in, I mean the Seattle Kraken currently will
get the standings pulled up for you. It's never too
early to look at the stake. Oh no, No, you're
(04:29):
two points back of Vegas in the division. Edmonton won
the night, so they sit still one point back of view.
What is your assessment of this team through for their
first ten games. Well, I think that there's there's been
a couple of hiccups along the way. You know that
we talk about the Philadelphia and Washington games. We talked
about the first couple periods of tonight, But I think
there's also opportunities for this team to learn to learn
(04:50):
that there are just no nights off. Yeah, they've they've
got to play sixty minutes of Lane Lambert hockey, and
I think you started to see that hockey a little
bit more in the third period than you did in
the rest of the game. But you know, you want
to get those lessons early. You want to get them
in the first ten games because the next seventy two
games are going to be even harder. So get those
(05:10):
lessons learned early and go to battle in the next
seventy two and who knows what happens four to three, cracking,
falling over time, al over to you, back over to you.
Speaker 1 (05:18):
Four key takeaways.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
Yeah, I didn't love the playing chase part of the game.
I thought that was a big over the first forty
minutes and the Kraken did a lot of it. That's
something that's got to be sorted out. I did love
the traffic in front of the net in the third period.
I thought that made a big difference in the outcome
of the game, getting back into it, and certainly that
no quit mentality. I think we're going to see a
lot of that throughout the year when the crack and
(05:39):
find themselves on the wrong side of a score. Three
starts tonight brought to you by Mama Kay. Unfortunately, Mama,
two of them are Canadians, but here we go. Third
star was Nick Suzuki. He had two assists. He was
a plus two tonight. Good game for him. Second star
goes to Brandon Montur. Gosh, it's nice to have him back.
Two goals, one assist, plus two, four shots on goal.
(06:02):
And your first start of the night goes to the
guy that got the ot winner, Cole Caulfield. He had
the exact same stats as Brandon Montur two goals, one
assist plus two four shoton goal.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
Two of your three stars were Canadians and two of
your three stars were also Canadians. Well, there you go,
crag and fall four to three two Montreal here and
overtime tonight. That'll do it for us up here in
the booth. But Mike Benton, where's Mike Betton? Is he
cross street?
Speaker 1 (06:28):
He's a cross Street. He's got a table. I'm gonna
join him.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
Yeah, he's got a table in the corner. Got of
here al over at Tom's washbar. As he's gonna take
you home the rest of the way. We will talk
to you. On Saturday, the New York Rangers make their

Speaker 6 (07:01):
Yes, sir, and again. Crowds are filing in right now.
Tables are still open with a Cracking tonight steal a
point off the table. It took a late rally and
a desperate effort, but they somehow get this one to overtime,
but fall four to three to two Montreal here to
end the regular season series. Fellows, great call, Thank you
very much. Once again, we'll have a look forward to
have out come join this year in just a bit
(07:22):
as well as again, nobody in the NHL had a
third period comeback win down by three this year. The
crack And were so close, the Crack And also with
just one third goal third period comeback in franchise history.
They were close to their second, but cold cough Field
finishes things off his ninth goal of the season and
(07:43):
completing a two goal, three point effort. Your final score
Montreal four and the crack And three in overtime. Montreal
sweeps the series, and the Cracking so close to getting
two but settling for just one point in both matchups.

On November one, the Abyss Awakens join us for our
first third Jersey Night, present to by Muckleshoot Indian Tribe
as a cracking take on the New York Rangers. So
here you're a today at Seattle Kraken dot com. Well,
this evening teaches us one thing. You're never out of
the game. But the Kraken trying to push so hard
(11:09):
to make up for a slow start get at least
one point off the table. But tonight Cole Coffield end
of matters once again, just like in Matchup one of
this series, forty four seconds into ot to finish it
despite a valiant comeback by the Kraken, Layton period three,
your final score Montreal four and the cracking three in
sudden depth over time Mike betting with you back across
(11:31):
the street from climbing Pledge Arena at Tom's watch Bark
come on in and stopping in case you're around the
area with the Kraken this evening move the record to
five to two and three. They have thirteen points now
in this second game of a five game homestand Montreal
they're rolling right now to begin the year. They improve
to eight and three and now have sixteen points on
(11:52):
the campaign.
Speaker 7 (11:53):
A lot to get to.
Speaker 6 (11:54):
Let's start right here with the highlights in this Seattle
Kraken drive to the next scoring recap is brought to
you by the All News sh Tracks now bigger and
Boulder Tracks is the perfect assist for all of life's adventures.
Low event hockey are three words here to describe this game.
In the first forty minutes and the Kraken struggling to
try to keep up with Montreal who use their legs
(12:16):
to check a ton and Montreal got after it here
for a one to nothing lead ten to twenty five
minut of the first period, Coffield getting his eighth goal
of the season. Nick Suzuki and Noah Dobson with the
helper as well as Azuki pushing his point streak to
ten consecutive games. He's hot and for the first time
this season, the Kraken trailed won nothing on home mise,
(12:37):
then a power player to Montreal, Yurislavkovski capitalizing at seventeen
to twenty eight a period one, converting a bumper feed
right into the slot. This fifth goal of the season.
Caf Field and Suzuki again there they were with the
assist on the play, and the Kraken had some work
to do, down to nothing at the end of one
an ounce shot seven to five in the opening three.
(13:00):
They had more push in period two but could get
no closer, and the Kraken trailing by two with twenty
minutes to play and they had to find something to
jumpstart their offense. But the Hillwood gets deeper Alex new
Hook on a power play, converting to make it a
three to nothing. Montreal lead five point fifty five into
the third and the Canadiens two for two on the
(13:23):
man and vandon jat that point, with Kirby Dakka Noah
Dompson picking up the assist as new Hook converting from
the right circle passed Joey de Cord. How could the
Kraken get matters rolling? They looked to one blue liner
right back here the jumpstart matters. A little over eight
minutes in the period three.
Speaker 1 (13:40):
Capton gets it back right side up top. Montor shot to.
Speaker 13 (13:50):
Brandon Montour from the line redirected.
Speaker 3 (13:54):
Into the odds that had the Seattle Cracket on the
power play get on the board three one.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
They cut their deficit to two.
Speaker 5 (14:03):
Well, big puck movement by anything.
Speaker 4 (14:04):
The Kracket starts with catting back to the Montour. He
puts but hard on net. I believe it went off
of Supper and I think it.
Speaker 5 (14:13):
Was James Schwartz's stick.
Speaker 3 (14:14):
It was either Schwartz or carry A because Carrie A
was the one.
Speaker 5 (14:19):
All goes off Carrier stick and in.
Speaker 3 (14:21):
By Jacob Dobash, so that will be Montour's goal.
Speaker 1 (14:25):
The krackt on the board down three to one.
Speaker 6 (14:28):
Indeed, it went off Carrie A and for the Krack
and they had to find some way to generate traffic.
That was very light in front of yakub do Besh
for much of this evening up until that point, but
eventually it paid off random Montour at eight fifty seven
period three got the Kraken on the board. Berkeley Catton
and Mason march Mint with the assist on the play.
(14:48):
With the Kraken trailing by two and at least some
consolation at that point it would not get shut out
by yakub do Besch. But the Kraken had more matters
in mind to make this game, more in drifting and
who jumps in there right place, right time?
Speaker 1 (15:04):
Here comes only.
Speaker 3 (15:04):
Tollven it right in on goal that one knocked away,
now Shane right stoo Shane right off a fifty pass
drifting into the slot and the Seattle cracket.
Speaker 1 (15:22):
Cut the deficit to one.
Speaker 13 (15:24):
It's a three to two Canadians lead here in the third.
Speaker 4 (15:29):
But you can feel that pump pot Boilian partners think
krack and move the pucke into the offensive ends cycle
around the back of the dead.
Speaker 1 (15:35):
It was Bob toward.
Speaker 5 (15:36):
Feeding right in the high slot.
Speaker 3 (15:38):
Right.
Speaker 4 (15:39):
It's a one timer off beachs tobash cluff side tough
shelf scape three two now in.
Speaker 6 (15:44):
A sequence that seemed very very difficult here to capitalize
on the Krake and did just that, igniting a rally
fifteen seventeen a period three at the time of Shane
right Skull who let him fly from the right circle
on dobesh random. Montour in the multi point ten terratory
had the assist on the play along with Ellie Tolbnen.
And then you can feel the Kraken with some light
(16:06):
at that goal to cut the lead.
Speaker 7 (16:08):
Down to three to two.
Speaker 6 (16:10):
Then Lane Lambert pulling Joey decor for the extra attacker
and what could the Kraken do right here in one
last ditch effort to rally for a.
Speaker 3 (16:19):
Tie track it regain possession, done drifting center plant across Montreto.
Speaker 13 (16:35):
Welcome back Brandon Montor. He's got two third period goals
and the Seattle Kracking tie the game.
Speaker 1 (16:44):
At three one.
Speaker 14 (16:46):
Forty three left in the third Well Montreal, I don't
know why if Montreal gives the Seattle excellent offensive soln entrance,
they get control on the half boards and Monty picks
that puck up off of a done pass.
Speaker 4 (17:00):
And puts a bomb on net.
Speaker 6 (17:02):
This game title free vicious results for Brandon Montour at
his second game back after leaving the team. Here for
personal matters as well, Brandon Montour a three point nine
second goal of the game extra attacker goal at eighteen
seventeen to turn this game on its head, and the
Kraken mounting a vicious third period rally to tie things
(17:24):
up at three. Montour's goal again his second in eighteen
seventeen from Ben's Dunn and Jayden Schwartz swiped one point
off the table. But then who comes right back aiming
for that second point to begin overtime.
Speaker 3 (17:38):
Coffeield left circle around done Coffield, stop by the cord.
Speaker 1 (17:44):
It's in a score.
Speaker 13 (17:48):
Col Cowfield does it again to seattle his second goal
up the night, another overtime winner.
Speaker 1 (17:58):
He just shams it in and.
Speaker 3 (18:01):
Passed accord, and forty four seconds into overtime, the Canadians
take the extra point.
Speaker 6 (18:11):
Oh a deflating way to end this one here, given
the circumstances back in period three, but the crack and
at least settling for one point here in the comeback.
But Cole coff Fields showing why he's one of the
league's most gifted goals scores and the Krakens certainly have
had enough of him into games. His second two goal
effort in this series. It caps off the overtime winner
(18:31):
as well, and is ninth of the season. Jamming it
passed Joey to Cord from the left post.
Speaker 7 (18:36):
Again.
Speaker 6 (18:37):
Forty four seconds into overtime is Cole Coffield's winner. Here
your final score Montreal four and the Crack in three. Nonetheless,
the Cracking is still unbeaten in regulation on home ice,
three to zero and one. Their record and also through
ten games five to three and two.
Speaker 7 (18:55):
Not a bad way.
Speaker 6 (18:55):
Here to begin matters under the Lane Lambert era and
all things considered, the Crack and facing a very heavy
schedule with teams last year in the Stanley Cup playoffs. Additionally,
the Kraken converting one to four on the power play,
Montreal goes two for two, with the win in net
going to Yakub Dobesh, who didn't face much period one
or period two. The Kraken cranking matters up in period
(19:18):
three and he exits this game with the win. With
three goals allowed on twenty one shots. He is now
six to zero on the season. Joey to coord the
overtime loss four goals on twenty one shots, he moves
his record to five one and two. Time now for
the cors Light chill us moments up the game, Cracking fans,
you can win, your chance to sit in the cors
(19:40):
Light silver seats go to Corslight dot com forward slash
seellow cracking to enter must be twenty one years of age.
No purchase necessary cors Light juice chill celebrate responsibly with
the cracking down by two in period two, what are
they looking toward here? As far as the hint to
get back into this game.
Speaker 3 (19:59):
Chanler Stevens said, drop past lindret near side shot tip touss.
Speaker 1 (20:03):
Line as Ryan Wincherton went toward the goal.
Speaker 5 (20:06):
Good idea by lingerid there on that wrap around backhander.
Speaker 7 (20:09):
Simple strategy.
Speaker 6 (20:10):
It was getting bodies toward the front of the net,
a strategy would certainly escape the cracking back in period one,
and they had scant looks at it in period two.
But ramping things up in period three that was maybe
a sign of things to come. Getting traffick in front
of Yakub dobsh was certainly a solution here to dig
their way out of the hole the crack and then
tying the game buds over time. No certain yet because
(20:34):
of this play with the second ticking down in period three, here.
Speaker 3 (20:38):
Is for her up calligher gives it up and throws
it in the middle intercept it five left Carrie a
near side, Anderson settles shoot stuck down loose puck on
the doorstep on Tour blocks the puck and we are
going to overtime here in.
Speaker 6 (20:56):
Seattle, not just for the three points that he had,
but that shot block with time winding down in period three.
It was all part of a herculean ef for Brandon
Montor had here in this one two block shots as
well in the game in twenty five minutes and seventeen
seconds of ice time. Nobody had more time on ice
on the Kraken side, and Brandon Montor helping preserve the
(21:17):
three to three tie into overtime with the Kraken get
a point out of this one before they fell for
three to Montreal. That brings us to the Big win
brought to you by the Evergreen Council on Problem Gambling.
The Boston Bruins in a mood for a big rally
right here earlier today hosting the Islanders way.
Speaker 2 (21:36):
He's over to McAboy far side now corally gives back

Speaker 5 (21:42):
Moving in score.
Speaker 14 (21:46):
It deflected off either Asamon or Pajo right in front
of the net.
Speaker 7 (21:50):
And the Bruins have a three to two lead.
Speaker 6 (21:53):
It'll be asamon Brian Johnson had the call there On

they scored five unanswered goals to knock off the Islanders
five to two at TD Garden and the Bruins improving
their record in a sluggish art this season to five

and seven. Back after this here from Tom's watch bar

Let's go back downstairs to Climate Pledge Arena and random

Speaker 3 (25:47):
It's the biggest difference offensively, those finals ten minutes compared
to you know, I'm having you in.
Speaker 17 (25:53):
For the first two.
Speaker 21 (25:53):
Yeah, just no energy. Really, you know, we're retired. It
seems like we're tired. They you know, they fast, young team.
They maintained most of the you know, the possession time,
but stuff three nothing, but you get a point, you know,
you see in the confidence, you kind of see you
know how we were in the last ten there and
nice to get a point, but we'd like to obviously,
(26:15):
you know, create a little bit more throughout the game.
Speaker 5 (26:18):
What'd you kind of see on your couple of shot chants?
Speaker 11 (26:20):
Is there?
Speaker 5 (26:20):
What wes the goals? Yeah?
Speaker 17 (26:22):
Just getting the shot.
Speaker 21 (26:22):
I mean I don't even know at that time we
might've had twelve shots on that eleven shots on That
didn't give that goalie much much work tonight. But in short,
see guys in front of the net, just try to
get out there and kind of find a lane.
Speaker 17 (26:36):
Nice to see him go through Brandon.

Probably a krudos to them, but again I don't think
they did much to, uh, you know, change how we
I think it was just us and our mindset. And
again Lane preached to kind of be ready to be prepared,
and I think right.
Speaker 17 (26:59):
Off the hop we're kind of flat. You didn't generate
much and I.
Speaker 21 (27:03):
Think regardless of power places, you don't score, you gott
to create something for your team, and you know, we
get one late in the game, but.
Speaker 17 (27:10):
I think we can create more.

All right, let's go life from Tom's washbar right across
from Climbing Pledge Arena. We're doing this here throughout the
entire season when the Kraken are at home, and this
one was a thriller. Tonight proven that you're never out
of a game. The Kracking those settling for a point,
Montreal winning this one four through the final and sudden
depth overtime in the back of Cole cow Field. I'm
(38:27):
showing why he's one of the more gifted goal scorers
in the NHL. Despite that, the Kracking getting a herculean
effort from Brandon Montour in a second game back from
personal lead to a family matter or a chorus his
brother passing away unfortunately from als, but Brandon Montour tonight
a three point effort and also a tremendous block at
the end of period three to preserve overtime. So Neil,
(38:50):
let's just say, we have a lot to talk about.
Mike Vent and Alconiski with you. Al got himself a
table here. I'm just kind of waiting for the.

I mean you are covered corner of your eye to

Yeah.
Speaker 4 (39:23):
There there's hockey, there's basketball, there's sports center. There, there's
a little bit of everything going on. Just find find
your spot and here that and find the sport you
want to watch.
Speaker 6 (39:31):
So again, Rod, Tom's watch Bar again, come on and
and join us each and every night. After cracking here
at home, I climb the pledge arena. And as far
as we want to talk about, well, the narrative completely
flipped on its head in period three, will get to
this here in just a bit, But I want to
hear from you four nine four five one right now
on the kJ R text line. Is there more concern
(39:52):
or is there more optimism from what you took away
from this game, because I mean this game was, you know,
if you want to look at it this way, I
mean it was two faced first two periods, then the
third period and the comeback as well in overtime. So
it really depends on how you felt walking out of
the building or driving home or listening wherever you may be.
Is there more concern for how the Kraken started or
(40:14):
more optimism and how they found their game and willed
themselves back against one of the top young teams, the
youngest team in the NHL and a first place team
here in the Atlantic. So four nine four or five
to one concern or optimistic based on this game four
nine four five one Texas Right now, Al we go
(40:34):
back I think early on to period one and a
bit of period two. I mean it looked grim. It
looked absolutely grim just from the standpoint of the crack
and were playing low event hockey. And it's not as
if they were getting run out of the building by
you know, say a browny Burley Florida Panthers type of team,
But there was just no space out there to operate
(40:54):
with the way that Montreal was playing.
Speaker 4 (40:56):
Yeah, they were playing a very smothering game in that
every time the c had the puck it was seconds
part parts of seconds before they were on the krack
and lifting sticks taking away Puck's playing physical and when
you don't have a lot of time to move and
make decisions out there, you give away the puck more.
And I think the Kraken had too many giveaways in
(41:16):
the first half of that game. But the nd in
the third period, I think they realized if they just
made decisions a little bit quicker, if they moved the
puck a little bit quicker, if they got traffic in
front of b Besh and they funneled pucks there, good
things would happen.
Speaker 5 (41:28):
And they did.
Speaker 4 (41:29):
So your comment, are you know, are you disappointed that
they put themselves in that position or are you.
Speaker 5 (41:34):
Happy for the outcome.
Speaker 4 (41:36):
I'm happy for the outcome because I want a team
to learn these lessons early on in the season. We're
ten games in, Yeah, we still got seventy two games left.
Learn these lessons. The Philadelphia lesson the Washington lesson the
Canadians lessons in both games, by the way, and let
those lessons funnel into the next seventy two games. I
think good things will happen.
Speaker 6 (41:55):
See, I still think that we're also in the period
of sloppy October where and this is going to carry
in an into November because you have a lot of
teams and again nine teams changing coaches here in the NHL.
You're learning a news system, you're picking things back up,
players come and go entering training camp, and you're still
trying to pat down mistakes. There are more mistakes in
this month and also in November than what you're getting,
(42:16):
say maybe in December and in January. So you're trying
to nab points off the table as much as you can.
So again, four nine four or five to one? Are
you more concerned or more optimistic based on the outcome
here of this game? Four nine four or five to one?
But I put it here this way, if you were
to go back about a month ago, on say September
(42:37):
twenty eight, and look into the schedule, you got Montreal twice,
You've got Ottawa, you've got Toronto on the road, You've
got Edmonton as well, five two and three first ten games.
Speaker 5 (42:48):
How do you feel.
Speaker 4 (42:49):
Yeah, I mean they're they're unbeaten in regulation against Canadian
teams as well. Going back to last season, which was huge,
it was eight coming into the game. It's now nine,
and I think you're gonna see statistic like that throughout
this season because I think the Lane Lambert way is
you play within this defensive structure and if you don't,
you're not gonna play. I think we saw that a
(43:10):
little bit with Yanni Newman towards the end of the game.
We saw him in Winterton flip spots. I think that
was mostly to try and create some offense. But then
you saw Berkeley Cotton get put on the power play
there at the end of the game, and the spot
that he took was Ellie Tolnan. Ellie Tolan's been struggling
to put pucks.
Speaker 5 (43:26):
In the net.
Speaker 4 (43:26):
So I think if if Lane Lambert's gonna stand by
his word, which is accountability across the entire roster, you're
starting to see it, and I think it's gonna pay
dividends later on the season.
Speaker 6 (43:37):
Three point nine for a cold cough Field. Nick to
Zuki now a ten game point streak the krack can
get a three point effort out of Brandon on tour
and again showing why he is so valuable to this
team on this back end. Brandon on towar to this
team ever miss him, but of course waiting now for
the right time for him to come back, and our
heart will certainly go out to him and family as
(43:58):
well after he had a very very emotional return a
few mornings ago here as well. But again I go
back and look at what you're facing in the body
of work with Montreal, a very very young team but
yet a very skilled team, and it seemed as z
if Tony they were more dialed in and I heard
a great phrase about this checking with their legs. They
(44:20):
kept moving over and over and over and they just
made space so difficult for the first two periods.
Speaker 4 (44:24):
Yeah, they absolutely did. And I think that checking with
your legs phrases is spot on. When you're checking with
your hands and your stick, you tend to take penalties.
And when you're checking with your legs, it's shoulders into
chests and it's hips into hips, and they were doing
a lot of that. I think that coupled with their speed,
their youth, Like I said, it was not giving Seattle
a lot of time to make decisions. And the only
way that Seattle could could push back on that was
(44:46):
better passing it was a little sloppy in the first
and second period, and better zone exits. And then, like
I said, traffic in front of dull batch which they
got late.
Speaker 6 (44:54):
In the third, or getting some texts already piling in
four nine, four or five one on the kjir text line,
more concern Are you more optimistic based on this game's
outcome as a crack and again rally out of a
three to nothing hole in period three in fall four
three to the Montreal Canadians. We're also gonna hear from
Lane Lambert coming up in just a bit as he
is due to meet with the media. I do want
(45:15):
to go back here to Ali. You were talking about
the Kraken changing matters up with their line combinations in
period three. You and I talked about this end of
two periods of play, and it wouldn't be so surprising
to see what Lane Lambert did with some tweaks. That's
part of his m He's not afraid to go there
and go there quickly. So Schwartz, Stevenson, and Winterton together,
(45:36):
then march mint right, Tolvenan together, Tulvenan off the power play.
Speaker 7 (45:41):
Catton goes on, how much are you concerned that this
is gonna be a long term thing?
Speaker 8 (45:45):
Now?
Speaker 5 (45:45):
Oh, I don't think it's gonna be a long term thing.
I think it was simply a reward thing. Capten had
a good game tonight.
Speaker 4 (45:50):
He played sixteen plus minutes of hockey, I think his
highest time on the ice in the time he's been
here with the Kraken. He drew the penalty at the
end of the game there on the on the hook
of the try, whatever it was. He should have drawn
a second one when there was a jersey grab there
late in the third period as well that we all
saw the on the twins.
Speaker 7 (46:07):
A little subtle interference that wasn't so subtle, right.
Speaker 5 (46:10):
Right, but they let it go.
Speaker 4 (46:12):
He falls down or he kind of pulls backwards on
that one. Maybe he draws a penalty there. He had
the assist on the goal, like he had a good
game tonight, so I like to see him getting rewarded
with time on the power play. I also think it's
a motivator as well, when you get pulled off the
power power play in the case of Ellie Tolven and
so good things can happen for both players in that situation.
Speaker 6 (46:31):
Well, I take a look right now at the text
line again four nine four or five one, which kind
of looks like the duality of humanity right now. Again,
concern are more optimism based on this game's outcome, and
we're just getting a mixed bag as far as feedback
here from this one. Two OHO six says execution lacking
for forty five minutes. That was concerning three six. So optimistic.
(46:53):
But Joey Decord's got to make that save in overtime.
I'll start with you, you know, third period or the
ot goal. Which one is more on the goaltender versus
which one was this more of a goal scorer was finished.
Speaker 5 (47:05):
Well, I'll take the third periods on the goaltender a
little bit more.
Speaker 2 (47:08):
You know.
Speaker 4 (47:08):
It was a one timer, which are always difficult for
goaltender to stop, but it hit Joey on the inside
of the leg and then finished off kind of leaking
through five hole. If he gets square to that shot
a little faster, maybe he makes that save. In the
case of the Cole Cawfield overtime goal, that's a goal
scorers goal. You know he goes hard behind the net.
Joey Decord takes off the or leans against that right post.
(47:28):
His foot's got it locked in there. At some point
he's got to decide is Cole Caulfield going around the
backside and going to try and wrap it around or
is he not. Joey Decord decided he was gonna try.
Came off the post, Colefield puts the brakes on, comes back.
Decord comes back. Jam's that foot there just seconds late,
and it's enough where Cole phil could not get the
(47:49):
pucking clean, but enough where he'd get it between the
foot and the post and jem it in.
Speaker 6 (47:54):
Remember back at the game at Bell Center two weeks
ago and the ot goal he scored that was almost
some and a near impossible angle and right over the
shoulder of Joey to Cord, I think the krack and
have had enough.
Speaker 7 (48:04):
A cold caught field.
Speaker 5 (48:05):
I think they.
Speaker 4 (48:06):
I think they have done that gold Coffield can can
be a healthy scratch the next time they they see him.
But you know, it wasn't a great game for goaltenders.
Both goaltenders had sub nine hundred save percentages. Joey's was
eight ten and Dolbeests was eight five to seven. It
was a goal scorers game. It was it was gonna
be fought in the trenches, and once again the Kraken
found themselves in that kind of a game.
Speaker 6 (48:27):
Two O six saying optimistic because Shane Wright's showing that
he's a goal scorer, got a third of the season
and office trademark shot as well. I'll add to that
for the two o six, I gotta say optimistic. The
team feels different this year. It feels like they just
need some time to gel that. From the two to
oh six, I'll.
Speaker 7 (48:45):
Lead in here to this.
Speaker 6 (48:46):
We're gonna get to break in a bit and build
a lane. Lamber with his reaction from downstairs again the
crack and fall four three two Montreal Mike Benton Alkoniski
here at Tom's watch Bar, right across the streets from
Climbing Pledge Arena. But when you talk of out the
team in their system, you go around the room. You've
heard it, I've heard it. They already feel like most
of this is already dialed in. They're ahead of the
(49:08):
curve right now. But I get to this for your
first takeaway from this game, back earlier in post game
coverage playing Chase in the third period. Part of the
ingredients here of a team that is one hundred percent
locked in is that you're not playing Chase all the time.
Comebacks are fun, comebacks are great, but you can't play
Chase all the time in the NHL.
Speaker 5 (49:27):
No, it's never part of the plan.
Speaker 4 (49:28):
But you do like to have a team that has
the capacity to do that when it's necessary. So that's
why I see this as a positive.
Speaker 5 (49:35):
Third period.
Speaker 4 (49:36):
Listen, they snuck out a point they probably shouldn't have,
but they did because of what they did in the
third period. I see that as a positive. I'd like
to see the first two periods cleaned up in other areas.
You and I talked between the second and third period.
Shane right at that point was zero for six in
the dot. He finished two twenty percent. The team as
a whole was thirty nine percent in the faceoff dot.
(49:57):
That's got to get better. You know, they can win
high games when it's fifty to fifty, forty five, fifty five,
but when it's that one sided sixty one percent for Montreal,
it just means they're coming out of the faceoff dots
too quickly with the puck in. Leane Lambert has said
that's not just the faceoff man, that's also his wingers
and his defenseman behind him. They've got to contribute to
getting that face off win. So there's something in there
(50:20):
that they've got to work on to get more of
those face off wins.
Speaker 6 (50:23):
Fifteen to nine block shots in favor of Montreal, as
you pointed out, traffic in front of Yakub dobsh that
got better in period three, but also as well your
third takeaway, no quit. That was again I think something
very very very important for this group because it's not
so much a strategy or a system thing, but it
was more of like a hard check.
Speaker 7 (50:42):
It was more of a gut check, and they certainly
have it. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (50:45):
I mean the outcome didn't go as I had written
written it down as the script, which was the crack
and comeback, tied up and win it in overtime. Montour
gets two in regulation in the overtime winner and we
all go home, you know, feeling good about Monte getting
a hat trick.
Speaker 5 (50:57):
That's the way I would have liked to seeing go down.
It didn't.
Speaker 4 (51:01):
But like I said, you can take a lot out
of this game, the no quick mentality, the o backdown mentality.
If this team is gonna fight to the bitter end
every single game, I think they're gonna end up on
the right side of some of these situations.
Speaker 6 (51:13):
Hey, font to get this one to OT now five
two and three on the season, as Montreal gets the
ot winner four to three. Your final from Climbent Pledgerina.
We're across the street at Tom's watch bar. Mike Benton
alkiniski with you. We'll come back after this here postgame
comments from crackinghead coach Lane Lambert. This is Tucking Krakeing
on ninety three to three KJRFM.
Speaker 2 (51:36):
Now back to Ducking Kracking with Mike Bnton on your
home of a Krack.
Speaker 5 (51:40):
In sports Radio Letty three point three kJ r FM.
Speaker 6 (51:45):
Right next door to Climbent Pledgerina is Tom's watch bar.
That's where we're at as a crack and fall four
three to Montreal in overtime. Mike Benton alkiniski with you.
Let's check back in downstairs, head coach Lane Lambert.
Speaker 7 (51:57):
Right now, meeting with the media.
Speaker 24 (52:00):
Is the biggest difference offensively the last eleven.
Speaker 17 (52:05):
I m so uh, I thought.
Speaker 24 (52:09):
I thought we passed up too many shots, uh, or
opportunities I guess to shoot in the first certainly in
the first little bit. And then you know, we've found
ways to to get a few more Bucks to the
net and and get him in.
Speaker 17 (52:24):
Obviously we did a really good job six on five.
Speaker 24 (52:27):
Uh, you know, and then our power play scored a
big goal for us to get us going.
Speaker 17 (52:31):
And again it's just another shot. You know, there was.
Speaker 24 (52:37):
Power plays at the start of the game where we
just passed around. We got to get bucks at that
was the.
Speaker 21 (52:41):
Energy level where you wanted it for the opening two
peros at as opposed to it, things.
Speaker 2 (52:45):
Got a little desperately.
Speaker 17 (52:46):
No, no, I I think you uh, you probably know
the answer to that question.
Speaker 24 (52:52):
And I'm pretty sure that the players have probably talked
about the fact that, uh, you know, we weren't very good,
certainly in the first period.
Speaker 17 (53:01):
And there's no excuse for it, and you know, we'll
have to be better.
Speaker 25 (53:05):
Uh.
Speaker 24 (53:05):
We've started games pretty well consistently in this uh so
far in this season, but this was not one of them.
Speaker 17 (53:13):
And you know, you can't you can't afford.
Speaker 1 (53:15):
To do that.
Speaker 16 (53:19):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (53:19):
We mentioned that power play kind of passing it around
earlier on it is that reason you started to roll
out of the second unit third when they ultimately were
that decision.
Speaker 24 (53:28):
Well, I think that we needed to make a little
bit of a switch to see what was gonna happen.
And you know, obviously it worked, So that doesn't you know,
it doesn't take away from anything, uh you know, in
terms of it, that's.
Speaker 17 (53:40):
Why we have two units. If one isn't going, we
we have to go with the other one lane.
Speaker 11 (53:46):
What can you say about Brandon Montule's heart and determination today?
Speaker 17 (53:50):
Yeah, I mean, uh, you know, he's uh I expect nothing, uh,
nothing less than that.
Speaker 24 (53:58):
Just a character guy obviously, and you know, he played
a whale of a game and and you know he
certainly had a couple of big, uh big situations for
us and helped us, uh at least secure a point.
Speaker 25 (54:13):
Maybe on that front, the fact that he's been with
you relatively so little, both through training camp cause of
the injury and then be in a way here for
a week, he's kind of surprised that he's been able
to play at this kind.
Speaker 17 (54:22):
Of level for you given given that, uh no, not really.
Speaker 24 (54:28):
You know, he's he's an elite player and uh, you know,
he he sees plays he can skate, you know so, uh, I,
I guess your your question is real fair am I surprised,
you know, he's he's doing a great job considering you're
you're not wrong there.
Speaker 25 (54:47):
And then you mentioned maybe lacking energy for the vind
Did you feel like Joanny kind of going after Doc
there after the hit on Myers maybe helped get you
guys going a little bit of fir.
Speaker 17 (54:57):
I think it was fantastic.
Speaker 1 (54:59):
Uh.
Speaker 24 (54:59):
You know, that's that's you know, we have to be
team tough, and when one of our teammates gets hit,
which we consider to be a dirty hit, we have
to stand up for him.
Speaker 17 (55:08):
And I thought it was. It was a good momentum turner, right,
thank you.
Speaker 6 (55:15):
I remember meeting with the media, Mike Benton Alcinski with
you back nearby climate pledge. We're gonna at Tom's watch bar.
I first want to go back here to the Ben
Myers to I mean again the Kraken. We're on the
fast track here to dropping this one and what kind
of felt like a bit of a clunker, and again
I go back to the heart equation of this here
for period three when they came back, they wasted no
(55:37):
time jumping into the mix.
Speaker 7 (55:38):
Once Ben Myers was hit.
Speaker 4 (55:40):
No, I love that you see Ben Myers ticket take
a bad hit and Yon and him was the first
one in on there, and you see three other guys
quickly come in and smother the assailant. And that's what
you want and team tough. It's not always about grabbing
somebody and just punching him at the fact that you're
gonna step in there and say not acceptable, and the
price might be paid there or it might be paid later,
(56:01):
but just skating away turning away, that also sends a
message to the team you're playing that you can get
away with that stuff. So I think that there definitely
was a turning point at that after that hit and
things started to go in the Crackings Cracking's direction. But
I want to talk about something else, Lane Lambert say,
which was giving up too many shots. Yes, in the
first part of the game. Yes, there were too many
(56:22):
times where and I saw Berkeley Katton do it one
time where he came through the slot. He tried to
make a drop past to Maddie. When you're in the slot,
you're on your forehand, you're coming through, let her ripe,
you know, put the biscuit on the basket because in this.
Speaker 5 (56:35):
Game there weren't a lot of shots on goal.
Speaker 4 (56:37):
The goaltenders didn't play that great and you got traffic
in front, put the puck on net.
Speaker 6 (56:41):
And we go back to the middle portion of what
Lane Lambert reacted to. And I think in the first
period this is all about never settling again. You come
back from down three goals. You know, teams will tend
to find some silver linings and really in some cases
it's appropriate here, but in something like this and being
so early in the season, this is basically message here
to say, stay away from bad habits.
Speaker 4 (57:02):
Yeah, absolutely, And again you know, games like this are
opportunities to learn lessons and bad habits for one of them.
If those if those lessons are heard, they're understood. If
they look at film and understand what the coaching taf
are trying to educate them on in terms of what
they want them to do or what they don't want
them to do, that stuff gets fixed and you it
pays dividends down the road.
Speaker 6 (57:23):
Heart certainly got them right back into the mix and
the krack and fighting back for an overtime point tonight,
falling four three. Here to Montreal. Before we get out
of here, a quick look at the New York Rangers.
They beat the Canucks here to nine to two nothing,
but they're still a team that is wobbling right now
under head coach Mike Sullivan and beginning this season as
well with a pretty rocky start. When you look at
(57:44):
the picture early on here, it is very early, but
four five and two, I think they had different expectations
in how they began this season. But it's gonna be
a fun one here, I think when you consider some
motivation on both sides. Ryan Lynn Grin former Ranger, maybe
couple Cocco will see if he's activated here for this
game he's getting better, but also will Borgan on the
(58:04):
Rangers side.
Speaker 4 (58:05):
Yeah, it's going to be an exciting Saturday night here
at Climate Pledgerina for all those reasons you just said.
And this team needs more offensive punch. They need Coppocco
to come back, they need Jared mccanna come back. And
you know, when this team is healthy, the sky's the limit.
Speaker 6 (58:20):
We will be seeing this one come up here with
also the debut of the new crack and third Jersey
as a cracking trying to answer a challenge against one
of the tallest teams in the NHL and ranked by wait,
the seven heaviest team as well in the NHL, that
being the New York Rangers. And they'll come in here
at the end of a four game road trip. That's
(58:41):
all the time we have here. Our thanks here to
the entire crew of Tom's Watch Bar, also to Travis
Moger technical director, Terry Ryan, our on site engineer, and
that we'll do it for here. We also thank you
for your reaction for the entire evening for al Kiniski.
This is Mike Benton saying good night from Tom's Watch Bar,
and again your final score from I'm a Pledgerina in
sudden depth overtime the Montreal Canadians four and the Seattle
(59:05):
Kraken three.
Speaker 7 (59:07):
This is Tucking Kraken on ninety three to three kJ RFM.
