Speaker 1 (00:00):
And the Kracking a power playload.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
This is the Kraking Postgame Show, brought to you by
Toyota of Olympia. Now for an in depth look at
your Kraken Hockey. It's the post game on the Global
Credit Union Kraken Audio Network.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
We're back. It's on a climbing plag arena.

Speaker 3 (00:18):
Three to two, Cracking take down the Kings in overtime.
Let's boss for a station ID on the Global Credit
Union Cracking Audio Network. Vince Don, with his fifth career
overtime winner, snaps the Krack in six game winless streak

(00:39):
O five and oh five and one rather no more
as the Cracking back in the win column with a
big two points over their division arrival.

Speaker 4 (00:48):
Well coming back as well after going down there in
that second period to get it tied up late and
win it in overtime. You talk about breaking a losing streak.
When you can break it in a game like that,
that's a big character builder for your team. I guarantee
that locker room's rocking right now. Guys feel good about
that one.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
I want to meet the guy that said the Cracking
power play is struggling three.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
For seven three power play goals tonight partner. Yeah, you can't.

Speaker 4 (01:13):
You can't bock at that something's working there when you're
getting three.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
Out of seven cracking, bending and not breaking. They had
a one to one tie after the second period. Similarly
to the game against the Minnesota Wild on Monday, the
Wild took a two to one league Kings take a
two to one lead with a little over five minutes
to play in the period, but it was a back
to back power play goal effort for Seattle. Matty Veneers

(01:38):
is fourth at nineteen thirty four and then a minute
twenty one into overtime, Anton Forrestburg takes out Jared mccannon's
leg and we're gonna have to wait and see. It
did not look good mccam walking down the tunnel with
help from two kracking trainers, But it was Vince Dunn's
fifth of the season.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
The third power play goal of the night gave the
crack in the win.

Speaker 5 (02:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:01):
Absolutely, and you're right, you hope there's nothing long term
on that situation.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
But we talked about it.

Speaker 4 (02:06):
I talked about it that that tying goal was probably
going to be a greasy goal and it was a
toulven And shot and Maddy Banier's deflection that ended up
beating Forresburg. And you know, on a deflection like that,
you don't know where the puck's going. You're just trying
to redirect it back towards the net. That's what Maddy
Beniers does, but it gives it makes the goaltender have
a difficult time getting set up for because.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
He doesn't know where it's going either.

Speaker 4 (02:26):
So greasy goal there by Matty Baniers to tie it up,
and obviously a bullet of a shot by Vince Vince
Dune to win it in overtime.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
La tolban and two assists tonight, Vince Dunn adding a
pair of helpers as well, so a three point night
for him. Of course, Jared mccannon with the first power
play goal for the Crack in three forty one into
that second period for Seattle. For all that had gone
wrong these land these last handful of games, and you
and I have talked about how the Crack and have

(02:53):
gotten points worthy efforts but were not rewarded with the
results for those efforts. Comparing tonight's game to Monday against
Minnesota Saturday against the Red Wings, of course, you can
go back to the last two oiler games, the Dallas
Star Game before the Thanksgiving break as well. What did
you see the biggest differences for Seattle here tonight work?

Speaker 4 (03:15):
Yeah, I just thought that you got a little bit
more out of everybody, you know, and and that was
in different areas of the ice. It was on the
penalty kill. We talked about, you know, the fact that
early on the game they went three for three on
the penalty kill keeping La off the board.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
There.

Speaker 4 (03:29):
It was the power play got better. I think physicality.
It was a two to one ratio about eating La
at one point in the game. So everybody contributing just
a little bit more, playing the game a little bit,
a little bit more, a little more cleaner. I think
it is why you got this result here.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
Three to two overtime win for Seattle. We'll go to
a timeout, comeback with more after this on the Global
Credit Union Cracking Audio Network.

Speaker 6 (03:53):

The final times.

Speaker 3 (06:04):
Tonight, welcome back inside of Climbing Plage Arena alongside al Kanisky.
Everard fits you back with you with say three to
two Seattle overtime win Vince Dunn his fifth goal of
the season, his fifth game winning overtime game winning goal
of his career. As well, we've had a rarity up
here also in the Crack and Audio Network both a

(06:24):
pair of SAT words dropped in this game by Big
al Konisky earlier in the game. He just dropped nomenclature
as well on the broadcast.

Speaker 1 (06:35):
So big night for you, but big night just showing
off my public schooling background.

Speaker 3 (06:42):
Cracking a three to two win here in overtime as
we await the arrival of Shane Wright here in a
matter of moments, and we've talked a lot about the
schedule for the Seattle Crack and that is not easy.

Speaker 1 (06:53):
And I'm a big scheduling nerd.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
Before the season, I might to go win through the
schedule and pick out the holes and the trends and whatnot.
Kraken all season long have just three instances when you
don't count the Christmas break or the Olympic break where
they've had three days off in between games. All three
of those instances have happened between now and the end
of the year. The Seattle krackn have two days off

(07:16):
in between games, just three more times, so it is
every other day or back to back between now and then.

Speaker 1 (07:22):
We also discussed about how if.

Speaker 3 (07:24):
You're winning, you maybe want to keep on going, but
if you're losing, these things have a tendency to snowball,
and Ley Lambert said, we have to just force it
through and keep at it.

Speaker 1 (07:33):
They did it here tonight.

Speaker 3 (07:34):
But the schedule is not easy, but Seattle found a
way to get it done this evening.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
Yeah, you're absolutely right, Neil.

Speaker 4 (07:39):
Like I said before the game, we talked about schedule,
is you got this period between now and the Christmas
break where you want to get that snowball, that proverbial snowball,
proverbial snowball, three rolling. You want to get it rolling,
and then you get that break at Christmas. Yeah right,
but when you come back, you carry that momentum into
that next session, that seventeen games schedule in uh in January,

(08:02):
after the remainder of December, and you know you want
to get those wins stacked up. No, it's not gonna
be a seven game, seventeen game winning streak, but you
start to feel like, hey, we can grab the majority here,
we can get a get back into a playoff position,
and that's where you want to be heading into the
Olympic break.

Speaker 3 (08:16):
I'll take a seventeen game if you're kissing out seventeen
game winning streaks, My hands first in line. I'm standing
up there. We we please as well. We have way
too much fun up here on this broadcast. Three to
two krack and win over the La Kings if you
can't tell trying to kill some time before shape shit
comes onto the broadcast.

Speaker 1 (08:38):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (08:38):
We touched on it as well, the dad's trip in
town for the Seattle crack in and what a way
to send them home happy. Also off to Utah tomorrow.
They'll play the Mammoth on Friday Night. What do they
need to do with the Kraken to keep this momentum
going and turn this five, this six game losing streak
into a two game winning streak. Well, the Matmoth are

(08:59):
a team that have had a lot of success early
on the season, and they too went through a little
bit of a rough patch patch recently, and they're trying
to get the same situation that I just talked about
with the crack and some momentum going into that holiday
break and off from there. So they're gonna face a
team that's trying to do the same thing that the
Kraken's doing, and they're gonna do it in their own building.
Kracking have not won there.

Speaker 4 (09:19):
That's got a factor in it as well, not in
a negative way, but you carried that momentum tonight into
that building and you go get a win there at
the United Center.

Speaker 3 (09:27):
How about Joey Decord here tonight with this Seattle crack
and coming into the game, he was on an zero
four and one stretch, won six and one in his
last eight games.

Speaker 1 (09:38):
He needed a big bounce back.

Speaker 3 (09:39):
He'll tell you that it's not been the start to
the season that he wants. He's dealt with some injury
as well, and now to get back in the win
column for him, that was a massive effort. He put
out some big saves, especially in that third period.

Speaker 4 (09:53):
Yeah, we talk a lot about a high danger chances
and La had five of them. I think at least
four of them, maybe all five of them were in
right in front of that blue paint area where he
had to come up with not one but multiple saves
before the play either ended because he got the puck
covered up or the Cracker were able to clear it.
So big game from him tonight.

Speaker 3 (10:12):
Well, wait, a couple more minutes for Shane, right, and
then we may have to just punt and we'll talk
to him next time out as we got a couple
of things to get to, a clock to keep, if
you will here in the radio business.

Speaker 1 (10:20):
Al over to the year.

Speaker 4 (10:21):
Yeah, takeaways to takeaways and three stars from Mama Kay.
First of all, I thought the PK was I wrote fantastic.
I wrote it down when it was three for three. Obviously,
the double minor at the end of the game turned
out to be an l a goal and it ended
four or five. But the special teams tonight were a
big part of the outcome. Power play was better for sure,
McCann getting the power play goal there in the second period.

(10:43):
We just talked about Joey to court. I'd written his
name down, but a few players that aren't in the
three starts tonight that i'll just call out separately. Told
then and he had two assists, he had four hits,
Coppo Coco. He had five shots on goal. He's a
guy that's been I wouldn't say on the Schneid, but
he's a guy that wants to score more. So great
to see him putting a lot of pucks on that tonight.

(11:04):
Three stars brought to you by Mamakay. Third star goes
to Maddy Beveniers tonight. He had one goal and also
five shots on goal. Second start tonight goes to Joey Decord.
He stopped twenty three of twenty five. He had a
nine to two to zero save percentage. I know last
time you played it drop below nine hundred, so he's
looking forward to get that back up above nine hundred.
And then your first star tonight, no surprise, Vince Done

(11:28):
one goal, two assists and obviously that overtime winner was
his goal tonight. It's a big game for the defense
been Vince.

Speaker 3 (11:34):
And you talk about two players that warn in the
three stars, I mean I'm gonna give an honorable mention
to Ellie Toviden as well. I mean to two primary
assists in this one. Well, yeah, two primary assists. And
I mentioned the four hits. One of those was on
Quinton Byfield.

Speaker 4 (11:46):
As the first period, I thought we were gonna see
the same situation we saw the other night with the
Vince dun hit that he threw was a very similar
open ice hit. I just don't think he caught Quinton
Byfield with quite as much of the shoulder.

Speaker 1 (11:59):
That'll do it here for us.

Speaker 3 (12:00):
We're gonna have to punt so on Shane Wright as
we got some bills to pay on the other side.
Mike Benton standing by with your postgame show to take
you the rest of the way in recap and exciting
three to two overtime win over the LA Kings, Mike
take it away.

Speaker 11 (12:15):
Yes, guys, what a comeback, what a finish, and tonight
the crack and looking for new life. The rally late
and third period, well you could say they got it done.
Vin's done a three point night, Matty Benier's game time
goal made that comeback possible, and the Kraken right now
it feels if they have new Life for the power
play back to Life three for seven and zero five

(12:36):
and one skid up in smoke they come back and
beat the Kings three two and over time and a
lot more to cover here across the street at Tom's

a game winning goal from Vince Dunn with a powerplay
coming through taking center stage, and the Kraken off of
that take a three to two overtime win over the
Los Angeles Kings, their record now at twelve ten and
six thirty points and two back at the cutline of
the Western Conference, ending their three game homestand and the

(17:02):
Kings moving their record of fourteen eight and eight thirty
six points as well, ending two straight games as well
on the road, and the Kraken are now eight seven
and one head to head with Los Angeles this season,
also improving to five to three in overtime games this year. Again,
Mike Benton with you back at Tom's watch bar right
across from climbing Pledge arena, and time now for the highlights.

(17:26):
And this Yello Kraken drive to the next scoring recap
is bron to you. But the all new Chevy tracks
now bigger and Boulder tracks is the perfectest sist for
all of life's adventures. No surprise, these two teams playing
tight checking hockey. You can expect little event. In the
first period. We got low event with a nothing nothing
tie in the shots in favor of the Kings at

(17:48):
nine to six into the second period, the Kraken early
on going to the power play looking to strike through
with the first goal.

Speaker 1 (17:56):
Now Seattle says it done. High slop macad.

Speaker 17 (18:07):
Sharon McCann on the power play with sixteen thirty nine
to play in the second it's a what nothing Seattle cracking.

Speaker 4 (18:15):
Lead well Quinton fifield brokey stick and I couldn't believe it.

Speaker 1 (18:18):
He went to the pitch to get a new stick,
which left.

Speaker 4 (18:20):
Three King players in their own zone to demn five
cracking players. Jun gets the puck on the half wall,
feats to McGann top of the circles. He beats Anton
Forresburg gets one nothing in Seattle.

Speaker 11 (18:33):
Jared McCann getting his fifth goal of the season from
Vince Dunn and Chandler Stevenson at three twenty one, with
the Kraken working the puck for open ice and they
found McCann right between the circles puck on stick and pager.
McCann getting his fifth goal and as well points in
three of four games to put the Kraken up one
nothing but potentially a big turning point. With the Kraken

(18:55):
falling short on a five on three situation, it would
go to five on four and the Kings, sniffing out
a turnover, got a breakaway and tied the game courtesy
Alex Lafarrier at eight sixteen period two for a short
handed goal and again a one to one tie. Urmia
had the assist on the play. The Crakens so close
to taking a two to one lead, Brandon Montour poking

(19:17):
a loose puck through traffic at the blue paint, and
then the goal would be waved off no video review
as well, and the game still maintaining a one to
one tie by the end of two periods of play
and a tough goaltending duel in between Joey to Cord
and Anton Forrestburg, both both goaltenders, each giving up just
one goal apiece for the first forty minutes of play

(19:41):
into period three, then the Kings taking the lead on
Kevin Fiala's eleventh goal of the season, and as well
off another potential big turning point with Corey Perry before
the goal hit with a high stick, Ryker Evans off
for a double minor and Fila going backhand on the
Cord at fourteen forty to make it too won. The Kings,

(20:01):
also with special teams in their favorite at that point,
getting the assist from on Jacobe Patar and Adrian Kempe.
It was just their second power play in the last
seven games, but none so fast this game, providing more
plot twists as well. Jared mccannon, tied up with Anton Forrestburg,
was slew footed right out the front of the net

(20:22):
that Cant helped up toward the Kraken dressing room and
ominous sign the Forrestburg, the goaltender hit with a tripping penalty,
and the Kraken, still with some life looking for one
last breath on the power play and time winding down,
tied up off.

Speaker 3 (20:37):
The draw Cope Paitar wins at Edmondson around the boards,
Done saves it near corner.

Speaker 1 (20:43):
Here's Tobaan to the face off, dot Sientery.

Speaker 18 (20:45):
Pass w directs the shot home on the power play.

Speaker 17 (20:54):
The Seattle checking tie the team to two two eight twenty.

Speaker 1 (21:01):
Four point eight left in this third well.

Speaker 4 (21:04):
Seattle loses that draw at the offensive end of the ice,
but it's fits done down interested on the blue line,
keeping the puck in, he gets it down to Tolven
and tolven It sells the shot.

Speaker 11 (21:13):
Let's it go.

Speaker 4 (21:14):
It's a deflection by Matti Veneers that ties this.

Speaker 11 (21:16):
Game up at two six. Attacker and the Kraken come
through to tie it up and give themselves brand new
life at nineteen thirty four. Officially a power play goal,
Matty Veneers has fourth on the year, breaking a six
game goal scoring draft on his side. Ellie t Toulvenen
Vince Donne as well with the assists and quite the

(21:38):
fying time for Beneers to find the score sheet once again,
all tied at two appiece and anybody's game heading into
overtime once again, penalties at the forefront, the Kings taking
another in overtime with Adrian Kempe offers slashing and the
Kraken power play going for the win and the trifecta.

Speaker 1 (21:58):
Everly, it's a tolvid in acrost stop.

Speaker 18 (22:08):
Vince gets it done and over time free two settle well.

Speaker 4 (22:15):
A great setup by Jordan Eberly who feeds the puck
over to Total the total, who waits for Vince time
to get a position for a one.

Speaker 1 (22:22):
Timer in the high slot, slides it over to him.
It's a bob track and win three to two.

Speaker 7 (22:28):
Pray on the final.

Speaker 11 (22:29):
Kicks, find time to break out of a four game
goal scoring drought and bring funnel cakes right back into
the conversation once again. Has Vince done? Capping off a
three point night, fifth goal of the year, coming unassisted
one twenty on the third crack and power play goal
of the evening and not enough to finish shot the
Kings in a three to two victory. By the way,

(22:52):
Done getting a three point nine. All of this all
part of a night where he gets his two hundredth
point with a franchise, becoming the fastest active defenseman by
the way to get to that mark with one team
right behind Cale mccarr of Colorado Adam Fox. The New
York Rangers and Quinn Hughes of the Vancouver Canucks. The

Kracking going three of seven on the power play. That
is a season high for power play goals in one game,
Los Angeles going one for five. Your final shots on
net thirty three to twenty five. Kraken over the Kings
with the win in net going to Joey to Court
who was terrific this evening, twenty four saves on twenty

(23:33):

thirty three shots. The Courts record moving now with the

the cracking to pick it back up.

Speaker 1 (24:15):
Here comes Vaneers two on one with Everly.

Speaker 3 (24:17):
Vaneers shoots knocked down by Forstburg, cucks behind him.

Speaker 1 (24:20):
He didn't know where it was and it was right
up under his pad. Referee blows the whistle. Maddy Vineer's
a two on one with Everly.

Speaker 11 (24:29):
Well the Kracken didn't score in the play, but certainly
taking advice to Hart as Matty Veneer's looking over. But
eventually the shot lane was there, no hesitation and nearly
snuck one right by Anton Forrestburg, who would get enough
of the puck to cover that up and keep the
game at nothing. Nothing but certainly the Krakens showing commitment
to shot volume. Then to period three, big moment right

Big save by the Cord who went down and got
it with the right leg.

Speaker 1 (25:05):
Armia hends a Cord What another right pat save?

Speaker 11 (25:09):
Oh that close. Joey to court facing eleven shots in
period three, but arguably his biggest save of the game,
right there to keep it right at or to keep
the cracking in the thick of it at that point
before they found the overtime winner. Time for the big
win brought to you by the Evergreen Council on Problem Gambling,
to go to Utah where the Florida Panthers were aiming

heard of a near side shots the.

Speaker 19 (25:34):
Net hook frunk they score in Ton Londell able to
jam it home. It was worked to the back door
and right there to at the edge of the crease.
It was Anton Lundell there to jam it in and
the Panthers have a four to three lead with fifty
point eight seconds left in the third. That was whipped
out in front from a sharp angle and Londell was
there to cham it home.

Speaker 11 (25:56):
Undel go ahead goal fifty two seconds left in the
third period. Sam Bena also two goals and an assists
as well, while Cardiver Hagy pushing his goal streak to
fourst trade games to give the Panthers a win four
to three at Delta Center on Wednesday that keeps the

To see Jared go down in the final minute. Is
there any update on his status.

Speaker 22 (30:41):
I do not have an update on him yet.

Speaker 5 (30:51):
In the play of Vince tonight, want to keep the
puck in the zone there leading to the tie goal
and kind of just obviously the winner for you guys,
would you kind of make it his effort.

Speaker 2 (31:00):
For you tonight?

Speaker 5 (31:01):
And some of those key plays he made well.

Speaker 22 (31:03):
I mean, he, like you said, he made some key
plays and you know, obviously he you know, he factored
in offensively big time. But aside from that, I thought
he was really good. I thought his gaps were great.
I thought his defensive play was great. Then I thought
he moved bucks. I thought that he had a lot
of composure to night, he shook off pressure and checks,
and I thought he played a very good game.

Speaker 23 (31:28):
Coach, not all victories are created equal. Given what your
team has gone through. Taking the macro view, how much
did it mean to your team and to you to
get rewarded and come out with a W.

Speaker 22 (31:44):
Well, I think, you know, like like we said, we've
you know, we've talked about the fact that we have
played well and you know, for whatever reason, whether it
be a mistake here, a mistake there, we haven't been
rewarded for it. So for me. It's it's huge. It's
huge for the guys to get rewarded for it, you know,
and you know, we'll enjoy this tonight and then we'll

(32:06):
move on tomorrow and head to Utah.

Speaker 4 (32:09):
Uh the play in the second period where it was
kind of bunched up around the net, looked like the
puck went in but maybe after the whistle.

Speaker 1 (32:15):
I don't know. They didn't make an announcement for us.
But what was the explanation given to you on that one?

Speaker 22 (32:19):
Yeah, well, the explanation is is that, you know, he
blew the He blew the whistle before the puck went
in the net, and he had lost sight of it.
He tried to in his mind, he tried to hold
off as long as he could from blowing the whistle.

Speaker 1 (32:35):
You know.

Speaker 22 (32:36):
So that was the explanation. And you know, it was
one of those real time plays. They're doing the best
they can, and you know, it was unfortunate that it
went that way for us. But again, you know, I
thought throughout some of that adversity, and we've had adversity
here over the past couple of weeks, I thought our
guys did a really good job, especially coming after you know,

(32:57):
coming out after that second goal going down again and
and you know, finding a way to tie the game
and then win it.

Speaker 5 (33:08):
Lan, would you think of just the power play in
general toon No, obviously scored on a couple of times,
but you do have the one break against you again,
just kind of collectively, what you thought about the way
you guys were moving, at the chances you were getting
and the one going.

Speaker 22 (33:20):
Yeah, I thought the power play, I mean, the power
play was outstanding.

Speaker 1 (33:24):
You know.

Speaker 22 (33:24):
We Yes, we did have the one breakdown and unfortunately
it was what it was, but you know, it did
what it has to do. It did what it needed
to do. And you know, we've talked about our power
play here over the last couple of weeks. You know,
whether you go back to you know, the end of
Edmonton game here where we had twelve shots on goal

(33:46):
with the power play, you know, we kept saying we're
generating chances, we're doing good things. That's a high pressure
penalty kill over there from La They've got a lot
of experience, there's a lot of I guess, long bodies
and you know there's not much space out there, and
I thought our guys really good job of I won't
say exploiting it, but certainly, you know, doing what they
needed to do in order to give ourselves a chance

(34:07):
to have success.

Speaker 11 (34:10):
Indeed, the Crack and power play doing what they had
to do, and overall they did what they had to
do tonight, getting a six attacker goal for Matty Benier's
layton period three and the bench done power play goal
to win it one of three on the night the

Well, how good did that one feel? Overtime winner for
Vince done after Matty Benier's tiza on a six attacker
in the last minute of regulation, and you talk about
a game to give a team new life a cracking
out of an OZ five and one skid. They beat
the Los Angeles Kings in dramatic fashion three to two
in sudden death overtime. Let's talk about of friends right now.

(39:12):
Glad you're with us, Mike Betting again with you for
talking cracking four nine four five one. Text us right
now on the KJR text line again four nine four
five one, and tell us on a scale of one
to ten, how big was this win for the cracking tonight?
And why four nine four five one. We've already got
text rolling in as well. Curtis Krabtree, by the way,

(39:34):
joining us in a bit from Fox thirteen. He'll be
with us here in just a bit to break this
one down as he is just emerging here from the
media scrums with Lane Lambert, et cetera, et cetera. Well,
let's just jump into the conversation right now, folks, because
I think my initial thoughts on this. You know, you
go into the final minutes of period three down by

(39:55):
one goal, and you're thinking of what hindered this team
from being at the the best and it was gonna
be quite the disappointment here from the Special Team's part
of this, because they were looking better, but for the
amount of times that they have been held to one goal,
two goals, no goals. Every little error is basically kind

(40:16):
of riding the line between winning and losing for a
team like this that is built to win games at
three to two or two to one. Just go ahead
and look at the final score here, but ultimately in
that last minute when you lose your leading score in
Jared McCann and he had to be helped out toward
the tunnel and it was an ominous look. And of
course Lane Lambert telling us earlier that there is no

(40:36):
update right now, so it's kind of holds your breath
right now because the crackun travel tomorrow and then play
in Utah Friday. You're looking for anybody for leadership. Guess
who steps forward? Maddy Benier's guess Howie step forward by
going right toward the front of the net. Meat and potatoes.
That defines the Cracking brand when they are at their best.

(40:57):
It's not flashy, but it's got plenty of substance. That's
where it gets done here for Matt Eveniers and crew
to get this game tied up as well, and then
Jared mccannon after he was gone, the Crack is still
finding a way on the power play setting up Ben's
Done for the one time blast one twenty one into
ot once again. Done's now at two hundred points for

(41:19):
his Cracking career off a three point night. The three
power play goals were most by the Kraken for one
game here for this season, as they get goals each
from mccam, Beniers and Done answering for the Kings Alex
Leferrier and Kevin Fiola. So there's one thing to talk
about leadership and how much that paid off here for
this team this evening. Secondly, in special teams and this

(41:41):
is part of where it enters the conversation when you
come back and win, because the power play had to
get things figured out. They were in a recent skied,
just like this team overall. Also like the penalty killed,
but this evening they come through three of seven on
the man advantage, and you go back and think of
the Jared McCann goal, how much the puck got moving,
how much they found the right play to set up

(42:03):
McCann When you had Anton Forrestburke moving the King's penalty
kill structure out of sorts. That's the kind of killer
instinct that you're looking for on the power play before
you get the Benier's six attacker goal and then done
converting in plenty of open ice. And finally here for
Joey Decor, this was a massive bounce back game. He

(42:23):
was going through a tough one back from injury. But
twenty four saves on twenty six shots, it didn't look
like that he was out of sorts, out of kilter
at all, and why not here to come right back
with a winning effort in this three to two overtime win.
Curtis Crabtree joining us here from Fox thirteen now for
a talking cracking and Curtis, I just I'll just kind
of rehash some opening thoughts here. It's kind of wild

(42:45):
how a game tying goal that lay can really blow
the whole narrative up, and it did so. Where it
went from what happened to make this margin of airs
so thin? And you go back and think of the
shorthanded goal that they gave up to Alex la Ferrier.
But they go three or seven on the power play,
and the game totally changes where it's refreshing in that

(43:06):
you don't have to find a primary source of offense
aside from Jared McCann well.

Speaker 5 (43:11):
I mean the power play opportunities. They had plenty of
them tonight, and that certainly helped get them to generate offense.
I know once that I was looking up before the
game ended, when they were still stuck on one goal,
was you know I was gonna you know, the narrative
for me was gonna be. Look, hockey is a goal
scoring contest, no dub, right, But you know there's one
three hundred twelve games played in a hockey season. How

(43:33):
many games last year do you think we're won by
a one nothing margin? How many take a guess out
of one three hundred and twelve.

Speaker 11 (43:42):
I'm trying to I'll go with the seventy percent rule,
so about seven hundred.

Speaker 5 (43:47):
Oh no, no, no, no, no, no, like score the final score
line being one zero.

Speaker 11 (43:50):
One zero. All right, Well then that I was thinking
of just a one goal variety, so one nothing. I'm
going to say about twenty percent.

Speaker 1 (43:58):
Oh no, way, no way lower.

Speaker 11 (43:59):
Eighteen eighteen total games total in the.

Speaker 5 (44:02):
Twenty four to twenty five season were won by a
one score, one zero score line.

Speaker 11 (44:07):
So guess what you need to score more than one games?

Speaker 5 (44:10):
Right? Ultimately, and their offense has been struggling, and so
for them to come through with two goals there late
obviously gets them a much needed victory to knock off
their their six game losing streak, a couple of power
play tallies which they've been struggling at for a while.
Obviously getting a little bit better here recently, some better

(44:32):
opportunities lately, but yeah, it's just you know, you go
from potentially losing a game to one where you give
up a four minute double minor late on a high
stick to Corey Perry, allowing them to get the go
ahead goal. It reminds me of a couple games they've
lost like that. Late in the lost five six minutes
of the game, the go ahead goals happen. They haven't
been in the period of mistakes basically.

Speaker 11 (44:50):
I mean it was one where you take a high
stick on Perry and then you go back to Stay
Detroit where a team that doesn't give up a lot
off the rush gave one to the wrong guy and
Patrick King he scores with inside three minutes left.

Speaker 5 (45:03):
Yeah, and what was the Minnesota game scenario to markus
Shawnson right like scored the go ahead the third period goal.

Speaker 1 (45:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (45:09):
So, like you know, several kind of goals games kind
of going similarly, where when you're playing this low scoring
a game for a team that struggles to generate goals overall,
you're gonna be in these like razor thin margin kind
of games where it's gonna go one way or the other.
And you know, after losing the luck draw with the

(45:30):
late penalty going against Ryker Evans, you get the unfortunate
penalty and injury to Jared McCann from Anton Forstburg. They're
giving you the late power play chance to score the
tire and then another penalty in overtime from Adrian Kempion
to set up the winner. So it also helped obviously
that the Kings took a lot of penalties tonight.

Speaker 11 (45:50):
Not all of them are very good ones. I mean,
if you're a Jim Hill or you have a smoke
coming out of your ears. Just based on the penalties
that they took and also the timing of it, it
was brutal. But if you're the Kraken, you've got to
find a way to capitalize on those, and they did.

Speaker 5 (46:04):
Yeah. I mean, Forrestburg gets caught behind the goal trying
to play a puck Brandon I think with Brandon Montor
just fired it towards goal while he's caught behind there,
and so he's scrambling to the back of the to
the front of the net and why you know, wipes
out Jared mccannon's leg from behind and leads to his
injury there. Unfortunate for Jared on that front, But that's
a penalty, Like, you know, you don't want your goaltender

(46:26):
in a situation like that, we're out of a goal,
trying to protect the lead with the other empty, the
other net empty at the other end. That wasn't a
good one. I kind of get when the one and
overtime happens because Maddy was in free and clear on
on on anton Forstburg there and totally get why kemp
Ba was like, we got I gotta, I gotta take
the penalty here. But a four on three in overtime

(46:48):
is almost that feels like that's like gotta be almost
like a sixties five percent, Like you're just done on
the spot if you take that overtime penalty. So and
it it ended very quickly after the one that they
took tonight.

Speaker 11 (47:01):
Four nine four or five one Texas here on the
KJR tex line, Mike and Curtis with be able to
get to your reaction coming up in just a bit.
I want to get to Matty Beniers here because this
has been an emerging topic of what exactly are the
expectations out of him and how far has he come along?
Now let's go back and reset all of this. I mean,

(47:22):
I mean back in twenty twenty one second overall pick
won the cald room, we're thinking, WHOA like this is
just a beginning here of what maybe he can do
offensively well. He had a tough season very next year,
very tough season as well, but he began to show
signs of it last year, maybe emerging out of it.
And now I mean he's on pace for his second

(47:45):
best season offensively, where you're hitting the fifty point mark. Now,
I mean I think you're looking for a little bit
more than five goals in twenty eight games, obviously, but
I mean the Matty Beniers game is offensive, but it
is also a two hundred foot game with his defense,
can you win face offs, can you go to the
front of the net, can you battle? And for a

(48:06):
guy who hadn't scored in five games here, that was
the kind of goal that not just the kracket needed,
but that was I think a market leadership.

Speaker 5 (48:14):
It's I mean, you want your your top line center
to probably produce a little bit more over the long haul.
But I think we know the kind of player Matti
Vaniers is.

Speaker 4 (48:26):
Now.

Speaker 5 (48:26):
If he's a twenty goal, sixty plus point center, I
think you feel pretty good about that because he has
such an asset for them on the tap and.

Speaker 11 (48:35):
You're writing, but trace Persn's territory there and that's this
guy growing up.

Speaker 5 (48:38):
Well, yeah, I mean I don't I don't think he's
Patrice Bergeran. I don't think he's gonna get close to that.

Speaker 11 (48:42):
He's not one.

Speaker 5 (48:43):
He's not good in the face off dot like person
was either. But like, if you can get somewhere into
that realm, you can live with that being your, you know,
a very good part of your team. I think you know,
everybody realizes that this team still needs its elite front
line offensive player. You know, they don't have the mcdavi,
they don't have the McKinnon. They don't have those type
of pieces on their front line. And I don't think

(49:05):
we're on earning any delusion that Maddy Bineers is gonna
develop into that at this point in his career. But
that doesn't mean he's not a valuable piece of a
hockey team that can help you. And certainly the goal
he scored there at the end was very nice. Big
credit to Vince Done to keep that puck in the
offensive zone as they're trying to clear it around the boards.
That play doesn't happen if Done doesn't keep the puck
in at the top of the zone. It feeds it

(49:27):
back down to Ellie tolven In and that sets up
the game winner there on the path to the slot
from the wing. So man, he was in the right
place at the right time to get that puck over
a Fordsburg shoulder and that allows the game to go
over time and they're able to go in it on
another play where he's driving the in front to draw
the penalty from Campa and it forces the ensuing power play.

Speaker 11 (49:46):
Well, we have more reaction coming in here. We're gonna
take a brief break and Mike, myself and Curtis will
get some more of your reaction in just a bit
again four nine four or five to one on the
kJ R text line is a power play gets three
goals tonight and the crack and courtesy Jared mccannon, we
did have to leave the game late in the third
period with that injury slew footed by Goltender Anton Forstburg
Matty Beniirs also with him Bence Dunn get the goals

(50:08):
scoring here for tonight and the and the krack and
beat the Kings three to two in sudden death overtime.
Your reaction plus more on talking Cracking after this on
ninety three to three KJRFM.

Speaker 2 (50:21):
Now back to duck in Kracking with Mike Minton on
your Home of a Krack in Sports Radio Letty three
point three kJ r.

Speaker 11 (50:29):
FM Party continues here at Tom's Watch Bar Krack and
knock off the Kings three two and sudden death overtime.
Mike Benton with you, Curtis Crabtree along with me here
from Fox thirteen and again four nine, four to five
to one on the KJR text line, hit us up
right now for your reaction again four nine, four five
one The Crack and breaking out of an zero five
and one skid. They beat the Los Angeles Kings three

(50:51):
to two in sudden death overtime, and based on a
few developments here tonight in the NHL a light night
on the scoreboard, it's still meant a lot to try
to keep pace here in the Western Conference, the Crack
and now two points back at the cut line. Chicago
won earlier today, so they are side with Edmonton for
the two wildcard spots. Thirty two points the Crack and

(51:12):
half thirty. Utah beat by Florida on a late third
period goal that was huge the Crack and now trail
Utah and San Jose by one point as well. So
the Crack is still trying to climb out of a hole,
but they are showing signs of life right now, especially
for the Special Team side of matters here for tonight
four nine, four or five one. Let's dive in right

(51:33):
now again to your reaction, and we get one first
off here from the four to two five, saying losing
Jere McCann again kind of makes this win feel like
maybe a bit of a loss. And when you talk
about some deficiencies on the roster, you're missing a big star.
Can you find that big goal score here to carry
the mail The guys are there, not superstars, but not

(51:54):
rising up earlier or easier as well. Now from the
four to two five, j mc can's going to be
I think a TBD all the way here into Friday.
The krack and won't practice tomorrow. They'll travel to Utah
and then that game against the Mammoth coming up as well.
So depending upon McCann, if he's in or if he's
not in, it doesn't change so much away you play,

(52:17):
but that does certainly staying for your five on five
in for the power play as well.

Speaker 5 (52:21):
Yeah, I mean, look, we're talking about how this team
struggling to score, and he's one of the guys with
the most dangerous shots that they have on offense. He's
not the most all around offensive guy, but like that
shot is a dangerous weapon. He saw that on the
opening goal that they had tonight on his power play
taally that that's a weapon that they are, you know,

(52:41):
lacked for a good chunk of time over the last
couple of seasons when he's been hurt.

Speaker 11 (52:46):
It didn't look good in the moment.

Speaker 5 (52:48):
You hope that the fact he was able to skate
off on his own is a positive sign that it's
able to you know that it's not going to be
too bad for him, But we'll have to see, because
I didn't it didn't seem like Jaden Schwartz's injury looked
like it was all that bad in the moment, and
he's obviously going to be out of stretch here too,
so we'll need to see what that is. No update
from lame Leymbert after the game.

Speaker 11 (53:08):
By Capton's also week to week, but he's like great
as well too.

Speaker 5 (53:11):
Yeah, so you know they're they're down some offensive ceiling. Yeah,
particularly McCann's back on the shelf. So was an ideal
for them to get the the chance to tie this
one and win it because of an injuryment to McCann
just kind of one of those things that happens forst
Work's not trying to take out is like there, he's
just trying to get back from the goal. So just

(53:33):
unfortunately fortunate that he happened to just catch his leg
and pull it out from underneath him and goes down
awkwardly and.

Speaker 11 (53:38):
All that because we're seeing a lot of injuries, you know,
creep up now in the league, and you can kind
of blame that on the Olympics scheduling here, but that's
not so much of a tegue injury. It was just
more of wrong place, wrong time, Yeah, exactly Again for
the four to two five, this reaction here saying this
win was a ten out of ten and of course
a ten front and center of Matty Benier's huge goal
and then drawing the penalty to so up the winner.

(54:00):
A shout out to Matty Beniers from Jeff in the
four to two five seven O eight saying confidence inspiring win,
hoping some positive momentum goes into the next game that
from the seven eights we get one here also from
the seven oh wait elsewhere saying power play goals are nice,
but still struggling for offense right now. At five on five,

(54:21):
Curtis Here's one thing that sticks out to me in
that this is the fourth rate game I want to
say where the Kraken have led in shot attempts and
they've all been in this same ballpark tonight, seventy one
to fifty nine over the Kings high danger chances. Kings
had the edge fifteen to twelve. Now that being said,
the Kraken did so well looking for good looks at

(54:42):
the front of the net, but again there are a
few plays where they they're again fighting an uphill battle
trying to finish.

Speaker 5 (54:49):
Yeah, I mean every goal in the game came on
the power play in some former fashion, even the shorthanded
one for the Kings there, so like there was no
five on five offense tonight from either side. They had
some good looks that just didn't cash in. Like I know,
even for the Kings, Joelle or Meia had a couple
of really good chances to think. I think that was
on one of their power plays, to be fair. But

(55:10):
you know, Matty Benier's had a good look that I remember,
Elie Tolbinen had a good look late in the game.
They had some decent looking opportunities there. But so much
of this game was played on special teams tonight. With
as many penalties as there were in this game, it's
a little bit tough to get an entire read on
the five on five play because there were so many
mixed and match kind of circumstances coming in and out

(55:31):
of penalty kills, power plays, all those sorts of things,
line mixing because of that and all. So it's a
bit of a strange game on that front. But it
was a game that I think that if it wasn't
coming on the back end of a six game losing streak,
you know, I think it felt like a pretty normal,
solid game all around for them. You're just given where
they were kind of at it, it was still would
have felt like a pretty big dut if they hadn't
found those two goals late to steal this one.

Speaker 11 (55:52):
Reaction here from x Rick saying that it could have
been a nine. It's a seven for him because it
feels like McCann could be out for a while. We'll
have to wait and see on that one. We get
one here as well from a dac Crack saying on
a scale of one to ten, feels like a twenty
nine and they needed to win so badly. Here hoping
that it brings confidence to back up a little bit here,
and you got to win this next game coming up

(56:13):
here with Utah with you.

Speaker 5 (56:15):
You just couldn't afford to keep sliding, like letting things
get further and further up.

Speaker 11 (56:20):
We've heard over and over like if you lose a
bunch of games, you drop out of this race in
a hurry.

Speaker 5 (56:24):
Yeah, And I mean they went from what firmly second
third place straddling that line in the Pacific to quickly
out of it because it's just back closely bunched. You know,
outside of the bottom couple teams in the conference, it's
a very very tight kind of race, and the East
was even tighter somehow, So you just couldn't afford to
keep backsliding any longer.

Speaker 11 (56:46):
You needed to get a couple more points on the
board before we have to duck out. And friends, again,
really appreciate your reaction. Four nine, four or five one
heroes always in the kJ R text line, you have
Joey to Cord and the bounce back game. Philip grew
despite the loss, only two got by him in the
Minnesota game, and they tacked on two empty net goals,
and you're playing right now in a stretch of a

(57:08):
lot of hockey, eleven games in twenty days, UTAs coming
up on Friday, Buffalo Back, You're on Sunday, the ten
thousand ton wagon that is a Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday,
and then Calgary San Jose and then three and four
before the holiday break in the Ducks and the Kings.
But decord and grew Bauer. How much does this maybe
change the game of how much you spread your goaltending

(57:30):
out now next couple of.

Speaker 5 (57:31):
Weeks, I felt like a full credit to Philip Grubauer.
He has played way better this season than he did
a year ago. He's done the last couple of years.
To be fair, he's looked and it's not only that
the saves have been there. It looks better like he's
being in position more and he's put himself in a
position where I think it might have been. Maybe it
was the Detroit game after you know what was he

(57:56):
was he the one and goal when they lost four zero,
and then Joey got the one up there reversed, I
think regardless, Joey started that game at Edmonton and Gruenbauer
came after. I thought I would think I would have
given Joey the night off for the Detroit game. They
didn't he went back in there. They lost that one
as well. I think he Grubauer has played well enough
where he deserves some more more starts.

Speaker 11 (58:16):
I will see who gets.

Speaker 5 (58:17):
I was just gonna say to follow that up, who
do you want to start the Colorado game on Tuesday?

Speaker 11 (58:23):
Probably Joey right, probably, but again, Philip Grubauer loves facing
the Avalanche.

Speaker 5 (58:27):
That's the other part of it. So like it depends
on if you want to give a nod to the
fact that he's the former Colorado guy playing them or whatever.
Let's say, if you want it to be Joey starting
that game. Whoever you want to start the Colorado game,
I think it starts the next game in Utah because
then you give the other guy the Buffalo game on
Sunday and then go to a fresh, fresh goalie for
the Colorado game.

Speaker 11 (58:45):
Well, despite Utah losing the saving still a very solid team,
but also trying to sustain a big loss in Logan
Coolly out of a leg injury and out in definitely.
They lost for three to Florida tonight, first of three
meetings coming up Friday, which will also be a part
of the Dads and Mentor's trip and the Crack and
looking to string back to back wins now and get

(59:06):
their first ever victory at Delta Center. All right, friends,
that we'll do it all the time. We have appreciate
you once again. Our thanks here as well to Curtis
Crabtree for joining us. Also Travis Mulger backing studio, our
technical director. Also Terry Ryan Oer on site engineer that
will do it for here, Join us right back here,
same place, Tom's watch Bar Friday for the Kraken and
Utah on air five thirty pup drops at six for

(59:30):
Al Kadisky as well, and everet fits you. This is
Mike Benton saying good night from Clem Pledge Arena and
Tom's Watch Bar and thank you for joining us. Your
final score once again in sudden death overtime cracking three
Kings two. This is Talking Kraken on ninety three to
