Speaker 1 (00:00):
And the Cracking power play.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
Lord, this is the King Postgame Show, brought to you
by Toyota of Olympia. Now for an in depth look
at your Kraken Hockey. It's the post Game. I'm the
Global Credit Union Kraken Audio Network.

Speaker 3 (00:17):
For the final time tonight, welcome back inside of Climate
Plageriina alongside al Kiniski ever fits you back here with
you cracking falling for to one of the Minnesota Wild.
It was one one with two fifteen left in the game,
or two to one rather with two point fifteen left
in the game. And the Wild, though, get back to
back empty net goals, and that is where this one

(00:39):
will conclude. And if you're the Seattle Crack and you
score on the power play, you break a perfect twenty
three for twenty three pk stretch for the Wild coming
into the game today. You know, but it's still not
enough offense tonight for Seattle. The physicality was their big
hit from Vince Dunn that got the crowd fired up,

(01:00):
that got the bench fired up, like we heard from
Freddy Gadreau after period two, But not enough for the
cracket here tonight.

Speaker 4 (01:07):
Yeah, and it's interesting too because the last two games
Edmonton and Detroit, cracking and grabbing six goals over those
two games even strength, but they're not able to get
one here tonight even strength. Just the power play goal
by Jordan Everley. And you know there were some difference
makers out there tonight for sure the penalty kill. Getting
that one goal put him one for three on the
power play. They were perfect on the penalty kill, going

(01:30):
three for three. Vince Dunn's hit absolutely had a momentum
grabber there in the first period. And I think Philip
Grubauer had a great game as well.

Speaker 5 (01:37):
I was gonna say, I mean, you're gonna see this
game as four one. It's two to one, You've got
two empty net goals.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
I thought, Philip Grubauer, he's gonna get his first regulation
loss of the season now for one and one. We
know what we've seen the last couple of years from Grubauer,
but I think it's safe to say this is probably
some of the best hockey that we've seen from Philip
grubauerins that playoff year two years, three years ago now.
But you know, not enough run support for the cracking

(02:05):
here tonight, and the Wild historically are just a team
that when they get up by a.

Speaker 5 (02:09):
Goal or two, they just lull it to sleep.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
They grind you down to a nub and don't really
give much of anything. The Cracking did get some shots.
Gustafson had a strong game and net as well. The
battle of two goalies, but unfortunately, if you don't count
the empty netter, Philip Gustafson one better than Philip Grubau.

Speaker 4 (02:30):
I think that once Minnesota got that go ahead goal
from Marcus Johanson, they clogged up the middle. They didn't
let Yes Seattle get to any speed going off the rush.
It was stickier than peanut butter and chest hair through
the middle of the ice.

Speaker 5 (02:45):
So vivid, tough to get going.

Speaker 6 (02:50):
What was what was?

Speaker 5 (02:51):
What was the TV show where the guy covers himself
in peanut butter and arrested development Yeah, yeah, something like that.
Oh goodness for one can fall to Minnesota al over
to you for more colorful analysis. Hasn't to get ready
to get out of here?

Speaker 4 (03:07):
Well again, special teams, we're good tonight. I would take
that every night, so you're gonna lock that in. Unfortunately,
even strength was not where the crack and were able
to get it done offensively. I love the hit by
Vince Done. Go ahead and throw that hit every game.
I'm good with it. And then I just want to
highlight PHILP. Grubauer's game. He stopped two breakaways out there tonight,
and as you said, this wasn't a four to one

(03:28):
game for him, it was a two to one game.
He'd probably like to have maybe the ericson goal back,
but the deflection, the goal ahead goal on Joe Hanson,
that's a tough.

Speaker 6 (03:35):
One to start.

Speaker 5 (03:36):
That's a defensive breakdown right there. You let them all
alone in front.

Speaker 4 (03:38):
YEP.

Speaker 5 (03:39):
Three stars tonight brought to you by Mama Kay.

Speaker 4 (03:41):
Speaking of goaltenders with a nine to five eight seve
percent engine stopping twenty three of twenty four, Philip Gustuson
was your third star. Second star goes to Matt Boldie.
He had an assistant, was plus three on the night,
and first star goes to Joel x Eriksson Eck. He
was one goal, one assist and a plus three. Well,
let to do it here.

Speaker 3 (03:59):
From Mike Benton across the street, I guarantee he's never
had peanut butter in his chest.

Speaker 5 (04:05):
No, I hope not. Actually, Hey, Mike, have you ever
had peanut butter? In your chest.

Speaker 7 (04:10):
Heir, guys, all I will say is a The answer
is no, MB I have a peanut butter allergy, so
I don't want that. I'm certainly not going there. You
do you though, fellas appreciate it, Thank you very much.
Tough way here for this one to end this for
back at Tom's Watch Bar live right across from Climbing
Pledge Arena, in a game that was so close through

(04:33):
forty minutes of play, and perhaps Philip Grewbauer deserved better,
but when you score one goal, it puts a ton
of pressure essentially on how you play. And Minnesota pulls
away here in the third period as a crack and
fall to five and one and trying to figure things
out here still after going winless in the last six games.
Tonight it is a four to one final wild over
with a Kraken and a lot more to cover. As

(04:55):
once again, come on back and join us here if
you're around the area at Tom's Watch Bar rider across

Crack and play, and this thing is close as it
gets against a very tied checking opponent, but unfortunately on
their side, one goal just not enough here to get
it done, with Minnesota pulling away with a go ahead

(08:16):
goal by Marcus Johanson and a pair of empty net
goals to spite the efforts of goaltender Philip grew Bauer
in net. Once again the Kraken must wait one more
game here to break out of their windless skid. They
fall for one to the Minnesota Wild here in game
two of this home stand, Mike betting with you again
back across at Tom's watchbar, and the Cracking falling to

(08:37):
eleven ten and six with twenty eight points on the season,
and unfortunately a chance to get closer here to the
cut line falls by the wayside here. We'll catch you
up more on that later on as far as your
teaser with that, but the Kraken facing a Minnesota team,
the Wild improving now to sixteen nine and five with
thirty seven points finishing therefore game road trip with a victory,

(09:02):
and the Wild now have won six in a row
in the head to head set here at Climate Plagerina.
Time out for the highlights in this Sellokraken Drive to
the Nets scoring recap is brought to you by the
all new Chevy Tracks now bigger and Boulder Tracks is
the perfect assist.

Speaker 1 (09:17):
For all of life's adventures.

Speaker 7 (09:19):
The first period was characterized by this Philip Grubauer had
to be huge, and he was just that in the
early moments. Plus also Vince Dunn laying a big hit
on Matt Zucarella, who would not return to the game afterward,
has certainly set a very physical tone for the remainder
of this one, the two teams battling it out to
nothing nothing tie at the end of twenty minutes of play,

(09:41):
and then into period number two, Minnesota looking to make
their move.

Speaker 14 (09:46):
Wild back an sidering pass in front and they score
that boldie from behind the goal. Joel Erickson Eck will
finish off the play and eighteen forty two left here
in this second the Wild to a one nothing lead.

Speaker 7 (10:02):
Joel ericson Ech going right to the front of the
net and on brand Joel Erickson egg goal and that
helping him break out of a goal scoring slump.

Speaker 1 (10:11):
His fifth on the year.

Speaker 7 (10:12):
Coming one to eighteen into the second period courtesy Matt
Boldy and Jacob Middleton put the Wild out to a
one nothing advantage, and that helped Ericson Eck break out
of a seven game goal scoring skid. But the Krakend
getting their chances, and right here on the power play
against a very threatening Wild penalty kill, how could they
make their mark?

Speaker 3 (10:33):
John takes the shot back to McCann backside, Stevenson in front.

Speaker 15 (10:38):
Everly, Oh, captain, my captain on the power play, thirteen
to twelve to go on the second we're tied.

Speaker 5 (10:54):
What why?

Speaker 4 (10:55):
Well, it took just eight second of power play time
for McCann to set that one up. He feeds it
over to Stevenson. Stevenson with a quick pump Everly on
the back door and Everyly just has to redirect that
one in this game has won one time.

Speaker 7 (11:11):
How tough has it been to score on the wild
penalty kill recently? Well, pretty tough when you consider they
had a run of nine consecutive games pitching a shutout
in the crack and finally breaking that with that goal
by Jordan Everly six forty eight into period two. It
was the first power play goal allowed by Minnesota since

(11:31):
November sixteen. Chandler Stephenson, in a six hundredth career NHL game,
picked up an assist on the play. He's got points
of back to back games. Jared McCann also with a
helper on Jordan Everly's ninth of the year, coming via
the power play at six forty eight h period two,
and you give kudos as well to Brandon Montur helping
draw the penalty for tripping on Matt Foldy, which helps

(11:54):
set matters up for a one to one tie. Both
teams taken that score, battling neck and neck into period three,
and as far as Minnesota was concerned, where were they
looking for third period offense?

Speaker 5 (12:06):
You get ready to go for the Olympics in Milan Courttano.

Speaker 3 (12:09):
Literally in a shot right side tip t in they
score for Minnesota Wild here in the offensive zone from
the right wing half wall. It's gonna be the former
cracking Marcus Joe Hanson burning his former team for a
two to one Wild lead eleven forty eight to play.

Speaker 6 (12:29):
In the third.

Speaker 7 (12:30):
All he had to do was just make a simple
play right toward the front of the net, and Johansson,
helping set a screen, got a redirection from Joel ericson
x shot at a twelve of period three, flipping it
right over the shoulder of Philip Grubauer and nothing munchs
of Kraken goaltender could do in that case, and you
saw the reaction perhaps from Ryan Lindgren smashing a stick

(12:51):
or trying to over the crossbar. A frustrating end on
that shift, which put Minnesota on top two one. Eight
twelve into period three, Johansen's ninth goal of the season
the Kraken, it seemed very next shift tied the game,
but Ty Cartier batton the puck out of mid air
into the open net bright pass. Goaltender Philip Gustafson had

(13:14):
the goal waved off because the puck was batted down
with a high stick above the crossbar, replays confirming that
and a tough turn of events with Minnesota maintaining their
two to one edge despite the crowd that was certainly
upset with the results at the very end of that
and also despite Kartier's best efforts as well where you
give him credit from there, Minnesota would wrap things up

(13:34):
in a pair of bat to back empty net goals,
Carill Caprisovs eighteenth coming with one fifteen to go in regulation,
Stirham and Spurgeon had the assist, and then Vladimir Tarasenko
wrapping things up with a minute left third goal on
the year from Ericson Eck to finish it off for
one wild over the Kraken is your final score, your

(13:55):
final shots on net twenty nine to twenty four in
favor of Minnesota special teams. This is where it was tough,
because the Kraken looked pretty good as far as building
a case in this game with a turnaround night on
the special team side, despite their struggles on the penalty kill,
there were three of three against Minnesota and also turned
in a one to three effort on the power play,

(14:16):
but only one goal getting by Philip Gusovson. It's a
tough ass to get two points from that kind of situation,
and Gussovsen, turning in a twenty three save effort on
twenty four shots, improves this record with a win to
eight eight and three. The loss of that two Philip Grubauer,
who had twenty five saves in this one and perhaps
deserving of a better fate, but takes his first loss

(14:37):
in regulation of the season. He is now for one
and one time. Now for the cors Light hillless moment.
So up the game, Cracking fans, you can win your
chance to sit in the super Chill Course Light silver
seats go to Corslight dot com forwards last Seattle Cracking

(15:02):
here's one way to get your bench, and also the
home crowd up and going in period one.

Speaker 5 (15:09):
But kay left side, but here's in front. Try to fight.

Speaker 3 (15:12):
Everyly on the back door, and that passed too far
in front of him.

Speaker 16 (15:15):
So.

Speaker 1 (15:17):
That bed's done. Lowers the tom in the corner.

Speaker 17 (15:21):
And now we've got a melee as super Rillo got
spun around bes Doune caught him in the train tracks
and it's taking everybody on in a white jersey.

Speaker 1 (15:33):
What a hit.

Speaker 7 (15:36):
You can call that one an old timer as far
as physical play and cracking history, Ben's done, lowering the
boom on Matt Zucarello, put the shoulder right into him,
and as far as the modern game is concerned, as
clean of a.

Speaker 1 (15:49):
Hit as it gets.

Speaker 7 (15:50):
The Wild didn't like it immediately, charging ad done and
a scrum breaking out right in the corner just seconds after.
But the tone was set on that hit by Done.
Fortunately for the Wild size Zucarello out of the dressing
room would not return, but don putting the hit on
the Wild forward certainly setting a threatening tone in this game.

(16:10):
End of the second period, though, the crack and needing
more heroics from their goaltender.

Speaker 3 (16:16):
Dallas short handed breakaway yeah, cob tregand.

Speaker 17 (16:19):
Down the slot.

Speaker 14 (16:20):
Big same by Philip Grubauer one on one.

Speaker 5 (16:24):
With Treggin and the Kraken back the other way.

Speaker 7 (16:28):
And that save on Yakov Trenyon arguably Grubauer's biggest of
the night, and in that second period he faced nine
shots and turning away all nine of them. Early on
with a crack and trying to get their game and
gear they had to rely on. Their goaltender was certain
with certainly several high danger saves. That's a big reason
why that they were in the thick of this one,
as Philip Groupauer's breakaway save on Yakov Trenyon was also

(16:51):
our second moment here as far as our showlest moments
of the game, courtesy Corps Light as well Time out
for the Big Win, brought to you by the Evergreen
Council on Problem Gambling. Let's go to Toronto where the
Maple Leafs we're looking for and open and shutcase loses
the puck.

Speaker 3 (17:08):
Open ice on the left wing for Tomorrows, dropping for
Colin in front for Riley god.

Speaker 1 (17:23):
Morgan. Riley gets the Leafs on the board. It's one
to nothing. Morgan Riley on that goal.

Speaker 7 (17:32):
With Austin Matthews giving all the offense goaltender Dennis held
to Be would need as their netminer, turning in a
twenty nine save effort for his first shutout of his
NHL career, and the Leafs blanking the Tampa Bay Lightning
to nothing on Monday, and they improved a four to
zero to one in their last five games. But what
a storybook night turned in by Dennis Hill, the beat

(17:55):
for his first career NHL shutout. Welcome back after this

And when you consider this game was in the balance

in a period where the Kraken are usually at their

who pulled away instead?

Speaker 1 (21:55):
Tonight?

Speaker 7 (21:56):
I want to go ahead goal by Marcus Johansson standing

A light night in the NHL.

Speaker 7 (22:34):
Is all done and for the crack and unfortunately a
chance gone by the wayside to make a move further
closer here to the cut line of the Western Conference.
Because the Los Angeles Kings beat the Utah Mammoth on
the road for to Adrian Kempe with a goal and
assists Joel Armia also with a pair of goals to
lead Los Angeles' side. So Utah stays at thirty one

(22:55):
points and the Krakens day three points back of them.
Say Lewis, Winnipeg, Chicago, all Idol, San Jose and Edmonton
tied with Utah at thirty one points. They were idle
as well elsewhere. We said earlier the Maple Leafs upending
Tampa Bay to nothing. Dennis Hildebeid turning in his first
career NHL shutout. Morgan Riley had a goal. He was

(23:17):
the second star of the game. The Flames at home
hangs seven on Buffalo for a seven to four victory.
Nasam Kadri and Yegor Sharon Govic each picking up three
point evenings. And the Red Wings have just finished off
the Vancouver Canucks in a four to nothing shutout win
at Vancouver. James Van Riemsdyke, Andrew Cobb, Dylan Larkin, Nate

But the crack and fall for one of the Minnesota
Wild Mike Benton Alconiski with you back across at Tom's
watch bar. Al joining us right now and ol opening
thoughts here for tonight. A lot of strain was put
on the krack and by themselves scoring just one goal
and too bad because it's filled a great hit by done,
a great effort by Philip Grubauer, and a great effort

(28:41):
by special teams.

Speaker 4 (28:42):
Yeah, I mean you obviously are disappointed that the team
couldn't get it done even strength tonight. It was you know,
it was one of those things where you're happy they
got the power play goal because they hadn't done very
well in the power play is of late. You're happy
they went perfect on the PK, but a team like
Minnesota enough to score more than one to beat them,
and that was the case tonight.

Speaker 7 (29:02):
Here are the thoughts from Cracking captain Jordan Eberley right
now back down stairs that Climate Pledge Arena meeting with
the media.

Speaker 22 (29:10):
Jordaned abtually a tough one for you guys tonight, But
you guys, culdarly played a strong gid.

Speaker 23 (29:16):
Uh Yeah, I mean, you know, you gotta find a way.
I don't care how you play. I think it just
comes down to, you know, we For me, it's just
we need to find a little bit better from everybody.
You know, you can say we're working hard, competing, but
I just think that, you know, we need to find
a little bit more from every single guy. I think
that comes down I've said this before. I think that

(29:39):
the line between winning and losing is so thin. You
feel like, I mean, obviously you've lost six in a
row now, and you know, you feel like you're it's
not great, Like you don't feel good. And I think
that you have to realize that, you know, a little
bit here puts you over that edge and you start
winning again. But yeah, I mean we got to find
a way.

Speaker 6 (30:00):
Seemed like Grooby deserved better.

Speaker 4 (30:01):
He played pretty well tonight.

Speaker 23 (30:02):
Yeah, Grooby played great. He especially early on. He you know,
he stood on his head there when they kind of
were breating this at the start, So he gaves a
chance to win. I think it, Uh could he did
a great job tonight.

Speaker 24 (30:15):
When you say you need see more from everybody where,
how do you guys cause that you know, as a.

Speaker 6 (30:20):
Group, but where else do you feel like you guys
can kind of pull that out?

Speaker 23 (30:23):
No, I think the efforts there. I know the guys
are working hard and competing. I just think that we
need to find you know, whether it's you got to
make an offensive play, whether you've gotta win a battle,
whether you've got to you know, make a wall play,
whether you've got a block shot.

Speaker 1 (30:33):
We just need more.

Speaker 23 (30:34):
We need more, will we need more, you know, more
passion to win hockey games. You know this is a
good team. I know we are. I've been you know,
been on a lot of teams and I know we're
a good team. We just have to find a way
to get back to you know the process of being detailed,
being hard to play against. And you know, the more

you do that each night, more consistent, youre gonna win games.

right now, and now, before I get into all of this,

(36:47):
let's revisit the comments here from Cracking Captain Jordan Everley
and folks. This is very very important to pay attention to.
And this was his answer in the final portion of
his scrum of the media once ago.

Speaker 1 (37:01):
Fritz Aarah.

Speaker 23 (37:01):
I know the guys are working hard and competing. I
just think that we need to find you know, whether
it's you got to make an offensive play, whether you've
gotta win a battle, whether you gotta you know, make

this is a good team. I know we are. I've
been you know, been on a lot of teams, and

(37:22):
I know we're a good team. We just have to
find a way to get back to you know, the
process of being detailed, being hard to play against. And
you know, the more you do that each night, more consistent,
you're gonna win games.

Speaker 7 (37:36):
Four nine four five one. Textas your reaction right now,
four nine four five one. And now what I get
hat out of here is this. When you score one
goal in a game like this and you're trying to
break out of an O four and one skit, all
it gets you, unfortunately, is a spoiled effort from your goalie,
a spoiled effort from your special teams, and now your

(37:56):
captain going the call out round.

Speaker 4 (37:58):
Well, it just goes to show you you know how
height hockey games are, and that you know one or
two mistakes can be the difference between one in the game,
win in a game one nothing and losing a game
two to one. And you know, Jordan Eberdy's right more
of a passion to win a lot of those details
that he talked about. He's speaking truth in that answer there,
and you know, hopefully that's what's being said in the
locker room as well. You know after a game like that,

(38:19):
before the coaches come in, is exactly what Jordan said
there and the answer to that question, that's what everybody
needs to needs to hear.

Speaker 7 (38:26):
Oh, this is going to really set the table I
think for Lane Lambert's postgame press conference, and we're going
to hear from this getting toward the end of our
Talking Cracking portion of this evening's broadcast. But I go
back and think of where the roots of Jordan Eberly's
reaction comes from, and the first period the crack and
built a terrific case. They were oning the edge and

(38:47):
shot attempts. The metrics say shot quality as well, very
much on their side. But the third period is not
just a factor that Minnesota really tilted scales I think
in their favor for the metrics, but also you go
back and consider the game is still essentially up for grabs.
A two to one, you pull the goalie, you battle,

(39:07):
you tie things up, boom, brand new game. Anything can happen.
But I think it was just the quickness of how
both Minnesota Wild empty net goals came.

Speaker 1 (39:18):
That's also a cause of concern. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (39:20):
One of the things that to me too, you know,
talking about stats, was the high danger chances seven for
Seattle eleven for the While they were just given too
many opportunities to score goals. Two of those high danger
chances were breakaways that Philip Grubauer had to come up
with big saves on. But you're giving a team not
many chances, it's no surprise they end up on top
in a game like this, So that's going to get

(39:41):
tightened up as well.

Speaker 7 (39:42):
I'm gonna go back to the first period where we
saw a real big u turn for special teams, and
it began with the penalty killing. Because we've said this before,
it's really seemed as if something's amiss, but get you
take a penalty over a minute end of the game.
Philip Grubauer first pen kill was your best player on
the ice. That save on Hartman was unbelievable. Yes, And

(40:04):
then the second penalty kill.

Speaker 4 (40:07):
It went better. There were there were no shots on
goal logs in that one, so a lot better penalty kill.
But you know, I again, you don't want to be
testing that all night against a team that's got a
team that's got Carell capriceof and Matt Boldy on it.

Speaker 7 (40:19):
So you come up with a third kill as well,
and it shows that things are starting to turn the corner.
And while and this is what I was gonna get
at here, you want to stay out of the box
as much as possible, especially for how good Minnesota's power
play is. But yet, what did we see as far
as steps forward with the crack and p K.

Speaker 4 (40:37):
Yeah, I mean they did a better job of not
getting stuck out in no man's land. And what I
mean by that is you can play a diamond, you
can play a square, whatever you want to play. You
just can't expand that shape where it's too big because
that opens up those scene passes in the middle that Edmonton,
Edmonton loved to find across the hash marks. So you
do have to attack when and when when you need

(40:59):
to but it stops and starts at straight lines, and
I thought that the cracking did a better job of
getting out attacking, but getting back into position very quickly.

Speaker 7 (41:07):
And here's one thing is that I noticed a change
in structure as well, you as well, and I saw
a bit of a move to a diamond formation here
for this penalty kill. But we saw, I think, really
where the groundwork was laid this morning. Virtually the entire
team was on the ice well before their ten to
fifteen morning skate was supposed to start. This was critical
to get locked into place, and they were going hard

(41:29):
at the penalty kill very early on this morning.

Speaker 1 (41:31):
Yeah, that's just it.

Speaker 18 (41:32):
You know.

Speaker 4 (41:32):
You think about that early morning skate and lots of
times there is focus on the special teams and you
assume it's to let the guys on the power play
snap the puck around. But it was just important this
morning to have those guys do that but also have
the penalty kill be very sharp. And I think that
Lane Lambert was calling out accolades when the penalty kill
was coming up with a big stop in that time.

Speaker 7 (41:54):
This morning, Jordan Everley had the only power play goal
of the evening and for the only goal as well.
Here as a crack and go one of three. But
here's something that really caught my eye. One power play goal,
but just on three shots, you're also one of three
on the power play.

Speaker 1 (42:09):
The question bears and it might be a lay up.
Here are the Kraken shooting the puck enough?

Speaker 4 (42:14):
Well, you know you gotta look at shot attempts on
a power play as well, because, yes, you want to
see shots on goal. But if I see shot ten
shot attempts and no shots on goal, that just tells
me that pucks are getting blocked, pucks are getting deflected
past the net, pucks are getting intercepted. And that's the
first step of scoring in a power play is shot attempts. Eventually,
you do have to get something to the front of

(42:35):
the net, but you know, in the in the course
of that two minutes, eventually something's gonna go off of
a knee pad, something off a deflection. I mean, look
at the game winning goal from Minnesota. Johansen goes to
the front of the net. It's a backhand saucer.

Speaker 1 (42:49):
Mic Like, it's not even a ra It was off
a screen.

Speaker 4 (42:52):
It's a backhand saucer. So yes, it's a defensive breakdown.
But it wasn't a big Brandon montour boom. You know,
it's a saucer that just gets redirected. And I don't
know if that would have made it to the net
had it not been redirected.

Speaker 1 (43:04):
But the point is is.

Speaker 4 (43:04):
That you've got to get the pucks to that vicinity
so the guys can deflect them. And even if it's
slightly wide, that's okay. I can as a forward, I
can redirect or I can deflect that puck back on net.

Speaker 7 (43:15):
Simple gets it done a lot and pretty funny enough.
How simple is enough? Sometimes you just throw it right
out the net, and that's where you get your offense.
In Minnesota certainly prove that with the game winning goal
by Marcus Johansson, by the way, the crack and five
shot attempts by the way on a power play, Minnesota
had one as far as five arm four power play
situations again four nine four or five one Texas right

(43:37):
now on the kJ R text and I we're gonna
hear from the krack and head coach Lane Lambert coming
up here in just a bit, Mike Benton al Kaniski
back at Tom's watch, bar I want to bring up
goaltending here, because Philip Grubauer tonight took his first loss
in regulation. And this is where we often say, don't
look at the box score and the final score to
determine how good a goaltender was a game like this.

(44:01):
Grubauer tonight, facing twenty seven shots, made twenty five saves
plenty were of the high danger of variety, and especially
in the first period. This is where the Kraken stayed
afloat because of Philip Grubauer.

Speaker 4 (44:14):
Yeah, when you look at those box scores, you got
to look for that e M. That empty net symbol there,
which means Philip Grubauer wasn't on the ice for that goal.

Speaker 1 (44:21):
So you're right, Mike.

Speaker 4 (44:22):
You know two goals will get credited against him, the
other two will be empty netters. And you know it
was the two breakaways that he stopped early in the game.
It was the penalty kill obviously. You know he has
to be your best penalty killer out there. You know,
you saw him keep the puck in front of him.
You saw him chop at pucks when they were in skates,
clearing them into the corners. Just a solid, very technical
game for Philip Grubauer to make.

Speaker 7 (44:43):
I think also, what you'd take away from this if
you're the Kraken is you had your goaltender bail you out,
especially in the first period.

Speaker 1 (44:51):
But this is.

Speaker 7 (44:52):
Against the Minnesota team that does usually not get four
or five, six, seven goals each night, like Edmonton, like Colorado.
So what happens when you face Colorado coming in This
is essentially a warning shot to get your game buttoned
up early.

Speaker 4 (45:06):
Yeah, I mean, it's going to be a test of
the Krakens defensive zone structure. And you know, I don't know.
I mean, I haven't looked that closely at the teams
that Colorado's played, but the Kracken aren't the only team
in the league that are focusing on this defensive structure
style hockey.

Speaker 6 (45:18):
But it's good.

Speaker 1 (45:19):
You've got to make it very.

Speaker 4 (45:20):
Difficult for any team, especially the Colorado Avalanche, to get
those scoring opportunities, and you certainly don't want to give
them opportunities off the rush.

Speaker 7 (45:28):
Let's go back and revisit here the offensive production issues,
because again we said earlier here, the last couple of
games showed that they were finding ways to generate shot attempts,
get the puck up ice as well, and that essentially
is the end game for their defensive structure. Don't just
sit back, it's get the puck back, move it back
up bys And we saw maybe a trend in the

(45:50):
right direction here for period one, but still again you
come up only with one goal. You have to ask
the question where do you begin to work at this
and not I think number two? Also, how much again
does this team miss change Schwartz.

Speaker 4 (46:02):
Yeah, I mean both of those things are true. You've
got to work on the five on five scoring opportunities.
It's about crisp passing. I think too many times it
got sloppy a little bit through the neutral zone, a
couple of zone entries into the offensive ice ice whenever
giveaways right at the offensive blue line, which are just killers.
You got all this momentum coming out of your zone

(46:23):
through the neutral zone, but to give it up with
that offensive blue line and have to go back and
play back checking defense, that's frustrating. So getting the puck
into the offensive end, either with control or on a
dump and then going and getting that puck so so
important to getting the offensive opportunities even strength.

Speaker 7 (46:39):
Again four nine, four to five one on the KJR
text line, let's jump in right now with some reaction
and from the four to two five saying bumper that
ty Carcier's goal was still in a way. The final
score wasn't good, but Special Team took a step forward
tonight onto Wednesday's game. I will say this, Al, you
said it. You got to call balls and strikes. Astick
was above the crossbar. There's no other way around it.

(47:01):
But you can't again knock the effort by ty Carcier.
That's gonna get pats on the back from your coach
goal or no goal when you go back to the bench.

Speaker 4 (47:10):
Yeah, and I don't think there's a situation where he
could have done much differently. And that's you know, on
that goal, you might think, well, why wouldn't you wait
until the puck was below the crossbar. He was basically
below the goal line behind the net, So you're not
gonna be able to hit that puck once it drops
below the crossbar. So I like the effort, like the
I like the skill connecting your two and a half
inch three inch blade of your stick with a tiny

(47:31):
little puck that you not hand. Coordination is really important,
and he'll he'll get another chance to put a goal
like that in when he's in front of the net.

Speaker 7 (47:38):
Two oh six brings this up, and I love that
Steven from the two oh six brings this up. The
Vin's Done hit back in period one. That's a clean
hockey hit by Done. Even in today's NHL, that.

Speaker 1 (47:49):
Is clean hockey. That from the two oh six. There's
no way around it.

Speaker 7 (47:52):
Zukarello, and you feel so bad for him because he
had to go off the ice and wasn't seeing rest
of the game and you hope he's okay, but he
just win right across the tracks and Done came in
like a freight track.

Speaker 4 (48:04):
Yeah, let's talk about that for a second. So you
look at the replay slow motion, as slow as you
can get it. You see Dunn's initial contact go to
Zucarilla's shoulder. Now, when you watch it at high speed,
you see Zucilla's head snap. You see his face hit
the ice after they hit. You know, you hope he's okay,
But I don't know what effect that head snap or
that face hitting the ice was on him not playing

(48:26):
the game. But either way, it's that initial contact that
makes it a clean hit. You hit somebody's shoulder to shoulder.
Of course their head's gonna stap. That's inertia. You know,
I think it's inertia from science class.

Speaker 7 (48:37):
But but I'm not a big science sky. I wasn't
a big science s guy in school. But I mean,
at least we do know that is inertia. That's what
makes it a clean hit, exactly easy to the eye.

Speaker 4 (48:48):
So you can't stop that head snap which you can
stop is the initial again, underscore initial contact being to
the head. And if that were the case, I'd be
the first one to say that's a penalty for Vince.

Speaker 7 (49:00):
Now here's one question to ask, because al you grew
up playing in a much, much, much different era, and
when you consider the the Seattle Thunderbirds and then trapped
by the Philadelphia Flyers, let's just say physical hockey.

Speaker 1 (49:16):
Is a prerequisite. Now.

Speaker 7 (49:18):
Now here's here, here, here's where I want to get
to a hit like that. I mean, once upon a
time in the NHL, you didn't have a scrum after
every clean hit.

Speaker 1 (49:28):
We're getting almost every time.

Speaker 4 (49:29):
Now, no, I know. And it's funny. We chat it
with JT. Brown about that after the period. He goes, oh, yeah,
you got to react to that, And I just thought.
I get it if it's a star player, and even
in the nineties and junior hockey, you can't touch me.
You do that to a star player, you're gonna get
a reaction. But if two fourth lines go out and
they hit each other like that, I don't think anybody's

(49:49):
doing anything. They're just going to grind like that. And
it's very different hockey now, where a big open ice hit,
a big hit along along the wall, clean or not,
you get that response. And I listen, I love I
standing up for each other. I don't have a problem
with that. That's today's hockey, but it was very different
in the nineties.

Speaker 7 (50:05):
For one two asking anybody from Coachella Valley ready to
come up for a couple of games, can you shake
things up right now to address the offensive issues that
from the four one two?

Speaker 4 (50:17):
Yeah, I mean, listen, there's always gonna be that opportunity.
You got Berkeley Catton out of the lineup right now,
you got the Jannie Newman in the lineup. Finally had
a pretty good game tonight, by the way, looked better
than last game, and a couple of shot of a
few shot attempts for him. But yeah, I think that's all.
That option is always on the table. You know, you've
got Cale Flurry on the back end, You've got Jamie

(50:37):
alexiak out, so you've got two healthy guys in the
press in the press box for the game. So from
a roster control standpoint or or you know that sort
of thing, you have to be careful about what you do.
But I'd like to see, you know, a Jacob Mallonson
come come up. I'd like to see Ben Myers come
back up. There's a there's a handful of names that
I think, uh, you know, would would benefit of being

(51:00):
back in this lineup for a game or two.

Speaker 7 (51:01):
We saw Oscar Fisker Mouleguard and again many reports say
he's got a fright a bright future, and we saw
it with our very eyes and right now twelve points
to nineteen games, but plays a game that is very
very translating here to Lane Lambert's system. And again again
the question is how soon here for twenty one year
old Jagger Fergus, who leads Coachella Valley with twenty three

(51:22):
points in twenty one games.

Speaker 4 (51:23):
Yeah, those are another two names, and I mean, if
I'm putting together five on my list, those two were
probably in the top five. And when uh Oscar Fisker
Mulgar was here, I thought that he looked good. He
looked like he fit at this level, and I think
with enough games he would develop into probably a middle
six forward very easily.

Speaker 7 (51:41):
All Right, We're gonna step out here for a second
and come right back with Lane Lambert's reaction the crack
out again fall for one of the Minnesota Wild this
evening in their second game with the homestand a climb
and pledge arena from Tom's watch bar, Mike Bett and
Alkiniski with you.

Speaker 1 (51:54):
We'll come back in a bit, Dan.

Speaker 7 (51:56):
This is talking Cracking on ninety three to three KJRFM.

Speaker 2 (52:00):
Now back to Duck and Cracking with Mike Minton on
your home of a crack in.

Speaker 4 (52:05):
Sports Radio Letty three point three kJ.

Speaker 7 (52:08):
R FL back at Tom's watchbar right across from climbing
pledge arena the cracking fall for one two the Minnesota Wild,
and we get more reaction here from X with a
hand of Leba to Butler, just asking for more net
from presidence and look at a have a better recognition
of backdoor opportunities here in this game. And now from
leab it to Butler on X the cracking again falling

(52:28):
for one to Minnesota, but Jordan Eberley picking up the
only Kraken goal via the power play. Let's check back
in right back downstairs for more reaction with crackenhead coach
Lane Lambert.

Speaker 18 (52:40):
Jordan just told us that he thinks we need a
little bit and you guys need a little bit more
from everybody.

Speaker 6 (52:46):
How do you feel about that?

Speaker 22 (52:48):
Take on?

Speaker 6 (52:48):
And also how do you think the team played tonight?

Speaker 26 (52:51):
I thought we started the game slowly, which you know
when you've lost four in a row, and I you know,
I haven't won a game in five. That's disappointing to me.
I thought our goaltendor was outstanding tonight, gave us a
chance to win. I would agree with his assessment that
we need more from everybody. You know, we we have

(53:12):
to have everybody playing well and we just can't afford
to have any passengers. And I didn't think I didn't
think everyone brought their best tonight.

Speaker 24 (53:22):
How'd you feel the team responded after ties goal was
waved off or confirmed no goal?

Speaker 6 (53:29):
How did we respond?

Speaker 26 (53:31):
I mean, you know, I thought the third period, I
thought we could have generated a little bit more, but certainly,
you know, we had some opportunities. Again, we're you know,
we're in a third period at home in a tie game,
and you know, take away the empty nit goals.

Speaker 6 (53:49):
That's you know, basically three one goal losses, so and
all in the third period.

Speaker 26 (53:56):
So we you know, we we haven't been good enough
in that situation, and we were earlier in the year,
and you know, right now it's it's we're going through
a tough time and we have to stay positive and
work our way through.

Speaker 6 (54:11):
It's the only thing we can do. But we have
to be better.

Speaker 24 (54:14):
And you could see Ryan's frustration after the wild second goal,
when what do you from your vantage point, what do
you feel like you could have done differently on that play?

Speaker 5 (54:22):
Uh?

Speaker 26 (54:23):
Yeah, I think I think he probably could have went
out the other side. You know, that's probably what he
was looking at as well, you know, instead of bringing
it up the strong side wall.

Speaker 6 (54:31):
But you know, that was that was a play that
was made. That's the play that.

Speaker 26 (54:36):
Happened, and and you know we uh, you know, I
thought we responded with a goal from from Carha, but
you know, it was just a little bit too too
much of a high.

Speaker 16 (54:45):
Stick lane it appeared that the defensive coverage from both
the forwards and the defenseman wasn't as good as it
could have been, Like on Johnson's winning goal and the
early power plays that the the wild we're having more

(55:06):
time and space than probably what would have been optimism.
There were the two breakaways where if if Krubauer hadn't
stood on his head, this might not have been as
close a game. Is that something that you'll be looking
at in that it that's easier to fix than figuring

(55:27):
out how to score more goals?

Speaker 6 (55:29):
Well?

Speaker 26 (55:30):
Yeah, I mean, you know, we've talked all year long
about what what is what is our identity? And we've
had some some defensive breakdowns for sure.

Speaker 6 (55:41):
I thought, you know, aside from.

Speaker 26 (55:42):
The breakaway that you alluded to on the on the
on their power play, I thought our penalty killing was
better tonight, you know, and our goaltender played well on
the penalty kill.

Speaker 5 (55:54):
You know.

Speaker 26 (55:54):
But I think that, you know, as far as our
d zone is concerned and our pressure, it's not as
good as it was, you know, maybe five or ten
games ago, and we've got to get it better.

Speaker 23 (56:06):
Coach, you had a new look with Newman and Cocko
and Shane Wright tonight, it seemed like they spent a
decent amount of time.

Speaker 6 (56:12):
The offensive zone. Why did you think of that? That trio? Yeah,
they were.

Speaker 26 (56:15):
They played together in Edmonton as well, and you know,
I thought they were. I thought they were effective in
that in that game as well. So I I like
their line tonight. I didn't mind their line at all.
You know, I thought I thought Shane was skating. I
thought he was doing some things with the puck. And
and you know, so we'll see where we go from here.
You know, our injuries of of sort of, you know,

(56:38):
with Schwartz being out and and now kat and being out,
our lines have been shuffled.

Speaker 16 (56:42):
And then big picture and from your experience, I mean
when a teams going through a slumth like this, I mean,
what needs to happen to break out of it?

Speaker 6 (56:49):
Well, you know you have to.

Speaker 26 (56:51):
First thing is is that you know it's a this
is a this is a ruthless league, a national hockey league.

Speaker 6 (56:56):
Nobody cares.

Speaker 26 (56:57):
Nobody cares if you've lost four or five games in
a row, LA is going to come in here and
try and give it to us again. You know, So
you got to find your way out of it by
staying positive and by being determined. You know, that's the
only way you can do it. You got to find
a way to get past it.

Speaker 21 (57:16):
Both special teams units have been struggling coming into the game,
but you kill all three penalties on one side and
get a power play goal on the other side.

Speaker 6 (57:23):
What did you think about the difference there tonight.

Speaker 26 (57:25):
Well, it was it was very very good for us
from that standpoint. You know, we we won the so
called special team's battle, which you know we haven't done
for a little bit here, So that's a step in
the right direction. Definitely a positive from that standpoint, you know.
And we in the second period, you know, right at

(57:46):
the end Tolven it hits the crossbar and you know
we hit a goal post. So you know, right now,
just it's not coming easy, you know, and sometimes you
just you know, it gets a little bit worse before
it gets better. But you got to you gotta find
your way out of it.

Speaker 7 (58:02):
Well, straightforward talk there from crackenhead coach Lane Lambert. Mean,
with the media downstairs right across the street to climb
the pledge, we're gonna Indeed, it is a ruthless league,
and I mean the reaction here to this is that
you can huff, you can puff, you can scheme, you
can play physical, but ultimately the mind directs the body,
and the Crack it had to use that mindset a
positive one to begin to build their foundation once again

(58:24):
to get back into the wind calumn, and again to
follow up that Philip Grubauer certainly outstanding this evening that
will direct to a very interesting conversation maybe potentially of
how many more games he could get amidst a very
busy schedule, and Jordan Eberly's comment saying that we need
more Lane Lambert echoing that saying we can't afford to
have any passengers to paraphrase it. So again not a

(58:47):
physical thing here, but more so a mental thing to
break out of this, and you can think maybe this
is going to incite a potentially dynamite situation for the
first period coming up on Wednesday, that's when the Kraken
take on the Los Angeles Kings, final game of the
homestand the Kraken getting a favor here from the Kings

(59:08):
as they beat Utah four to two. So the Crack
and still three points back on the cut line in
a very bunched up Western Conference, it is San Jose,
Utah at Edmonton all taie thirty one points a piece.
But the Kings again prior to this evening a massive
breakout offensive game six nothing win over Chicago in a

(59:28):
year where they have been again sputtering for offense, defense
more of their calling Carter Course under Jim Hiller, entering
today ted for third in goals allowed two point five
shared with Dallas, also tied for fifth in the NHL,
and shots allowed at twenty six. So the Kraken trying
to respond again against a very challenging team defensively and

(59:50):
looking to improve on their seven to seven and one record.
They have won two of three, so it'll be the
first of four beatings coming up, and a lot of
them bear big significance here because after Wednesday's game, by
the way, a TNT matchup the Cracking at the Kings
December twenty third, that is the last game before the
holiday break. They're at the Kings again on the fourth

(01:00:11):
of February, last game before the Olympic break, and after
that one more matchup right back here in Seattle April thirteenth,
which will be the home finale for the twenty twenty
five and twenty six regular season. Looking forward to Wednesday
again pub dropping a little past seven o'clock Pacific airtimes
six thirty. Hope you can join us and we'll do

(01:00:32):
it from here from Tom's watch Bar. Big thanks once
again to Travis Moger, technical Director, Terry Ryan.

Speaker 1 (01:00:38):
Our on site engineer and for al Kiniski.

Speaker 7 (01:00:41):
This is Mike Benton saying good night from Tom's watch
Bar and thank you for joining us. Your final score
once again the Minnesota Wild four and the Seattle Kraken one.
