Speaker 1 (00:00):
And the Cracking power playload.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
This is the k Postgame Show, brought to you by
Toyota of Olympia.

Speaker 1 (00:07):
Now for an in depth look at your Kraken Hockey.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
It's the post Game on the Global Credit Union Kraken
Audio Network.

Speaker 3 (00:16):
For the final time tonight and welcome back inside of
Climate Pledge Arena alongside Al Koniski Ever fits you with you.
Cracking fall to five hundred and twelve twelve and six
following a three to one loss to the Buffalo Sabers
and partner again, I mean, I know, we're tired of
saying it, We're tired of hearing it. Another really good
effort by the Crack and it was a sixty minute,

(00:38):
two point worthy effort, but once again the results not
their great goaltending performance from Alex Lion Zoey Decord as
well made the saves he needed to make. It was
a good game in the physicality department, Jacob Alanson I thought,
was I mean, probably the most noticeable player on the
ice here tonight for the Kracking at the end of

(00:59):
the day. Not enough and they fall one, seven and
one now in their last night.

Speaker 4 (01:05):
Well, the Buffalo Sabers coming in here with a dash
twenty five differential on the road at even strength. Showed
tonight that they can score at even strength, putting both
goals in even Strengthen, the krakens only goal was the
power play goals, so Kracking ended up doing one for
three on their power play, not too bad, and going
perfect on the penalty kill. This game was won and
lost at even strength, which is not what I expected

(01:27):
here today.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
Well, and it was a really good goaltending performance. After
being out shot nine to three in the first period,
the Kraken had a plus seven shot differential twenty one
to fourteen the rest of the way, eleven to seven
in the second, ten to seven in the third, and
a number of those were high danger grade eight chances.
And again Alex Lyon putting together a Lion like performance here.

(01:53):
Wasn't cowardly on his part here in CF, I wouldn't
say they got Goalid.

Speaker 4 (01:57):
We see that a lot where you throw up thirty
thirty five shot on goal and you just can't beat
the guy that's his on his game. There were there
were a lot of pucks to Lions area. He was
very efficient about moving the puck out of the blue
paint covering it up when he needed to, But the
Kraken had eleven eleven high danger chances, only coming up
with one goal on eleven. Your issue wasn't necessarily goaltending

(02:19):
or defense. It was execution at the other end of
the ice. And you know, the crack and are without
Jared McCann right now there without Jaden Schwartz. Berkeley Catten
helps with some of that offensive push a little bit,
and it certainly showed here today.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
So next up for the Kraken come the Colorado Avalanche.
The league leading Colorado Avalanche. They've cooled off in recent games.
In their last ten they got tired of winning. They
got tired of winning. There's seven to one and two
and their last ten twenty three, two and seven.

Speaker 5 (02:48):
That's partner, that's not a mistake, not a real stats.

Speaker 3 (02:51):
Twenty three to two and seven, I mean a rematch
of the first round of the two thousand and twenty
three playoffs, but for Seattle, I mean, and against a
team that's been struggling the score goals, the Buffalo are
the Colorado Avalanche outscoring their opposition one twenty eight to
seventy four this season. I mean, it has been a
stellar season for Colorado and it's not going to be

(03:14):
an easy mountain to climb for the Kraken coming up
on Tuesday.

Speaker 4 (03:18):
Yeah, we talk a lot about the Krakens game, and
you know what they need to do to be successful.
They know this structure that Lane Lambert has put in place.
What they need to do is they need to play
it very well against this Cottabado team. They need to
execute every single shift. They cannot take any shifts off. Again,
I'm talking about defensive structure, and they're going to have
to find a way to be effective. At the other
end of the day, she can in the game with

(03:39):
ten to eleven twelve high injer chances with only one goal.
So the Avalanche have elite scoring and Nathan McKinnon. They've
got an elite blue line led by kill mccarr and
they're getting excellent goaltending right now. Those three things together
are why they have the record they do well.

Speaker 3 (03:55):
If you go back to some of the games the
Kraken have played this season, they've played some of the
best teams in the NHL close all season long. You
go back to the game two of the year. I
know what's early on in the season, but you beat
Vegas two to one at home that game in overtime.
You beat Toronto in overtime four to three in their building.
You go to Winnipeg on that same trip and shut

(04:17):
out the Winnipeg Jets, who at the time had only
lost at home five times in the last two and
a half seasons. You come back home the next night
get a three to two win over Edmonton. You lose
two to one against Dallas. I say this to say
just because Colorado is top billing in the NHL.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
Just because they have all of these stud players.

Speaker 3 (04:38):
The Kraken have seen this before, We've seen this book before,
and I think for Seattle, you're right, they get back
to their game. There's no reason for me to believe
this is not gonna be another tight two to one,
three to two game on Tuesday.

Speaker 5 (04:50):
Yeah, and that's just it.

Speaker 4 (04:51):
You know, you you've gone against some of the best
so far this season and you've had success. So you've
got to think about a little bit and think about
what I just said, which is why did you have
success against those teams? How did you play, what did
you do? What did you not do? I thought there
were just just too many opportunities tonight that Seattle did
not cash in on and when you see those happen
over and over, you start to think this could burn

(05:12):
you in the third period, and when it was two
to one, they're late. That's what I was thinking about,
where those opportunities.

Speaker 3 (05:18):
Three to one, Buffalo taking down Seattle. These two will
rematch late in March, back in Buffalo on the twenty
eighth of March. Al back over to you for your
key takeaways and Mama Kay's three stars.

Speaker 4 (05:29):
Well, a couple of key takeaways. Two different things here.
One you can affect. One you can't affect as much.
The first one you can affect our defensive errors. I
thought there were just a couple of defensive errors tonight
that led to Sabers goals. The second Saber goal was
the other thing, which is puck luck. Vince done trying
to clear the puck, it goes off, escape back into
the zone. There they get a two on or two

(05:50):
on one and go one the other way that results
in a goal. So a little less puck luck for
your opponents, a little more maybe maybe the outcomes different,
but you got to clean up those defensive errors. The
second thing was special teams was a little better here
tonight one for three on the power play and a
perfect penalty killed two for two, so they got to
keep that going as well. Three starts brought to you
by Mamakay. Third start tonight was Chandler Stevens. He had

(06:11):
a great game. Yeah, I think he's the best player
on the ice. We talked a lot about Jacob Malons
and he had a great game as well physically, but
on the score sheets tonight Chandler Stevenson with the power
play goal. He was sixty one percent in the face
off dott He had two shots on goals and get
this partner two hits as well, and they were good ones.

Speaker 5 (06:27):
We love it.

Speaker 4 (06:27):
Second star goes to Buffalo's Alex Tuck. He had two
assists in the First start tonight goes to Buffalo's Taje Thompson.
He had a goal. That'll do it here for us
from the press box.

Speaker 3 (06:38):
Crack and Fall by a three to one score back
at it on Tuesday against Colorado to wrap up the
home portion of their pre Christmas schedule. That game nationally
televised on TNT, so this will be your only local
source for Crack and Hockey on the Crack and Audio
Network coming up on Tuesday, But for now, Mike Benton,

(06:59):
we'll take you home.

Speaker 6 (07:00):
Yeah, guys, say, if the crackn can find a way
to get a win over Colorado, that would be a
massive you turn as far as recent fortune, Sis Chandler
Stevenson tonight getting a power play goal and that was
the only source of offense on the Crack inside which
unfortunately the finish was there undoing this evening they get
eleven high danger chances at five on five and also
a great effort unfortunately goes by the wayside from Joey

(07:23):
to Cord and the penalty kill and the Crack and
now trying to get out of a run of one
seven and one last nine games, and so they're searching
again for anything to get this You turned quickly tonight
a three to one defeat.

Speaker 1 (07:35):
They suffer here to the Buffalo Sabers. A lot to
cover here, live across at Tom's Watch Bar, and.

the game, but one goal, unfortunately on their side, not

(10:50):
enough to carry the load, as Buffalo getting goals from Oscelin,
Thompson and Benson enough to finish shot the Kracking. Here
in the homestand opener up to games games three to
one year final Buffalo over the Kraken, and now the
Kracking trying to get out of a slide of one,
seven and one in the last nine games and facing
a massive challenge coming up Tuesday in the Colorado Avalanche.

(11:13):
You hold the top record in the entire NHL. At
this point, Mike Betton again with you back at Tom's
Watch Bar across the street from Climbing Pledge Arena and
the Kraken record now falling to twelve twelve and six
they have thirty points and Buffalo improving to fourteen fourteen
and four. They have now thirty two points on the season.

(11:34):
We will have Laine Lambert and his reaction coming up
in a bit, but time now for the highlights, and
this yellow cracking draft to the next scoring recap has
brought to you with the all new Chevy tracks now
bigger and boulder tracks. Is the perfect desist for all
of life's adventures into period one. And who comes up
here for Buffalo on the first ally.

Speaker 5 (11:53):
Here come the Savers back in down the far slide.

Speaker 3 (11:56):
Austlin shoots and they score Auslin two on one. It
was him and Norris. Dorris finished off the play and
then went screaming into the end boards hard. It's a
one nothing Buffalo saber lead Josh Norris up skating off

(12:18):
under his own power.

Speaker 5 (12:20):
That didn't look good.

Speaker 6 (12:21):
Noah Ostlin from Josh Norris and Alex Tuck made it
one nothing in favor of Buffalo At seventeen pH nine
and into the second period, the krack and trying to
fight their way back. But what does Buffalo do off
a break down back of the cranking zone.

Speaker 3 (12:35):
Seattle trying to clear, Tuck holds it onside looking down load.

Speaker 1 (12:39):
Thompson scores.

Speaker 3 (12:43):
A failed cracking clear up the near side.

Speaker 5 (12:46):
Just unlucky.

Speaker 3 (12:49):
As Seattle tried to push it up the wall and
Tage Thompson finishing off a two on Oh, it was
VI's Done who tried to clear it up the boards,
but he cleared it right into the skate of Alex Tuck.
Tuck took it back and Thompson finished it off.

Speaker 6 (13:11):
It's been a tough guy to stop here for the
cracking in their franchise history is tase. Thompson gets a
sixteen goal the season from Krebs and Tuck at tenh
eight to make it to nothing, but the kracking getting
a window open as they go right here to the
power play.

Speaker 3 (13:25):
Here's Vince Done left side cracking with the face off,
steven said, left cirtainle shot Chandler. Stevens said on the
power play has put the cracket.

Speaker 5 (13:42):
On the board.

Speaker 3 (13:43):
They trimmed that deficit in half two one seven thirty.

Speaker 4 (13:48):
Six to play in the second well Matty Paniers with
a face off win. Jordan Nibley taps it back to
Vin's done at the point done down to Stevenson with
a scene ice shot from the left side, short side
on off, flying two to one.

Speaker 6 (14:02):
Just six seconds after the Rasmus Donling cross checking penalty,
Chandler Stephenson coming through his sixth goal of the season
on the face off win. Simple play waited for a
screen fired at home left circle. Give credit every on
the screen and that cut the deficit to two to
one to twelve twenty four in the power play, Stevenson
getting a sixth goal of the season from Vince Dunn

(14:24):
and Jordan Everley, and that now, by the way, a
five game point scoring streak for Stevenson. But in period
three the Kraken ten shots on net, Buffalo with seven.
Unfortunately nothing else coming on the offensive side, and we'll
cue it up for you in just a little bit
here as far as a big turning point. But after
that it was Zach Benson who put the game away

(14:46):
on an empty net goal at nineteen fourteen of period three.
Quinn and McLeod had the assist on the play to
wrap it up. Sabers three, Crack and one. There's your
final score from Climate Pledgerina shants on Net twenty four
to twenty three in favor of the Cracking and as
we said, they picked their game up as far as
generation with chances and looks at the Buffalo net after

(15:09):
period one, but tonight, unfortunately only one goal to show
for it on alex Lyon as a crack and power
play goes one of three, but a bright spot as
well the penalty kill continuing to show improvements after giving
up seven goals and nine chances. Tonight they give up
nothing on two on the Buffalo side, virtually no passes

(15:31):
across the box, and the Sabers as well on the
man advantage here for this evening held to three shots
on net and also the Cracking getting a big penalty
kill at a very ideal time after the Stevenson goal
to keep Buffalo at bay and keep the Kraken in
the game. Joey decord you can't fall his zeffort. Unfortunately
he takes a loss here in this one. Twenty saves

(15:53):
on twenty two shots. It's alex Lyon picking up the
win on the sabers side with twenty three saves on
twenty four shots. Time for the cors Light chillless moments
of the game. Cracking fans, you could win your chance
to sit in the cors lights silver seats go to
Corslight dot com forward slash the yellow cracking to enter.

Speaker 1 (16:11):
Must be twenty one years of age.

Speaker 6 (16:12):
No purchase necessary, cors Light juice chill celebrate responsibly first
off in period one? How close to the cracking get
to grabbing the lead?

Speaker 3 (16:21):
Fuck loose on the right side, Copold Gotto couldn't clear
held in by Samuelson.

Speaker 5 (16:26):
Now Seattle two on one, here's.

Speaker 3 (16:27):
Controu least side backhand off the posts. He has Stevenson
on the decoy coming down the right side, took it
himself and pings it off the pipe.

Speaker 6 (16:37):
It just shows you how close the kracking were at
that point in the game to breaking through. Unfortunately, nothing
in period one on just three shots on net, but
he earned a pretty decisive advantage in shot attempts at
five on five at sixteen to twelve into period three
as well, a little over eight min and slept and
if you're pressing for offense, well how about you do
it without the other side with some pretty important tools.

Speaker 5 (17:01):
So let's the act of the fire circle. But here's
the shoots that one off the body of the lion.
Now here's Everly a stick with two.

Speaker 10 (17:11):
Toll it in fire's right side.

Speaker 3 (17:14):
Alex Lion knocks it down head.

Speaker 5 (17:17):
We'll cover it up.

Speaker 6 (17:19):
It may seem subtle, but the cracking had a good
look right there, with Mattia Samuelson losing his stick and
then Alex Tuck as well losing his twig in the process,
which effectively made a five on three in favor of
the Kraken able to work the puck around and get
it to an ideal guy Ellie Tolbnen from the right
circle and a pass that went right into his wheelhouse,
unfortunately down the goaltender Alex Lion instead the back of

(17:43):
the net, and one of those big chances that went.

Speaker 1 (17:45):
By the wayside.

Speaker 6 (17:46):
Here at a three to one cracking loss to the
Buffalo Sabers. Time not for the big win brought to
you by the Evergreen Council on Problem Gambling. We go
to New Jersey where after a blockbuster trade, a new
member of the k was looking to make his mark.

Speaker 1 (18:02):
Canucks lely the game won nothing. As we near the
seven minute mark of the first pair, Garland across the
devil's line, Tropizot for Brilliam to the least shirtal trying
to ask to the back tour.

Speaker 10 (18:11):
They scored, it deflects into the net. I think Brendan
Dillon put this into his own goal. We'll wait and
see exactly who this is going to be credited to,
but this might be Zee Bulliams first as a Canuck.

Speaker 6 (18:24):
Indeed, it was Zee Bulliam's goal his first as a Canuck.
That call courtesy Brendan Bachelor on Canucks Radio, as Bulliam
had a goal and an assists in his debut with
the Canucks in a two to one win over New
Jersey at Prudential Center. It was the Canucks, of course,
in their first game after trading Quinn Hughes. Billiam part

(18:44):
of a big package coming back to the Canucks along
with Marco Rossi, Liam Ogrin and the first round draft pick.
Bulliam had two Shanson goal in nineteen fifty of ice
time and also had a key role on the power
play the Canucks, going two of three on that side.

Speaker 5 (18:59):
For good men.

Speaker 6 (19:00):
I should mention as well, Quinn Hughes scoring in his
debut from Minnesota. How would they fare? I'll tell you
a little bit later on here we'll pause here for
a break though the crack and fall to Buffalo three
to one.

Speaker 1 (19:10):
Back after this.

Speaker 6 (19:11):
You're listening to the Global Credit Union Cracking Audio Network.

Speaker 1 (19:43):
Let's go places.

Speaker 6 (19:46):
Back live at Tom's Watchbar across from Climbing Pledge Arena.
Mike Benton with you crack and fallllle the Buffalo sabers
three to one and now for more reaction, let's go
to crackenhead coach Lane Lambert looking.

Speaker 13 (19:57):
Hey again, As I said, I thought we played hard
and you know, we can't.

Speaker 14 (20:04):
Use anything for excuses. Lane, Where did you feel like
the team came up short in their execution or in
their game tonight?

Speaker 9 (20:12):
Ah?

Speaker 13 (20:13):
Well, you know we again, we directed quite a few
shots on net. You know, we take a split second
to get it off a little longer than we should.
There's too many shots that aren't getting through. But certainly,
you know, we had our looks, we had our chances.
I think where we really came up short, you know,
as we made a couple of mistakes that we can't

(20:34):
make their first goal or d stands in our protocol
is our forward has to back him up and he doesn't.
It's a too long one. Can't do that, you know,
And it's it's happening. You know, it's happening too often,
and there's no excuse for it. These players, the guys
have to have to do their job, have to do
their job, have to do the job that's required.

Speaker 14 (20:55):
You know. Obviously the second one was a cost. The turnovers.
So right now we have to play the.

Speaker 13 (21:02):
Perfect game and to give ourselves a chance to win.
And you know there's mistakes here and there that are
reaching up and biting us. Brandon montro told me that
he felt like there just wasn't enough urgency or enough.

Speaker 14 (21:16):
Emotion in the team's game tonight. Did you see that.

Speaker 13 (21:21):
I thought, for a little bit of time in the
second period, we came out slow, and you know, I
thought the energy.

Speaker 14 (21:30):
Level could have been higher, but we were himed in
our zone.

Speaker 13 (21:32):
So I thought our power play goal got us going again.
I thought we had plenty of chances in the.

Speaker 14 (21:37):
Third period.

Speaker 13 (21:43):
Late addition to the lineup, but he seemed to be
hitting everything in sight at the moment he got.

Speaker 5 (21:47):
On the sea.

Speaker 14 (21:49):
Did you like that energy level that he brought and.

Speaker 13 (21:51):
Do you think the team was able to feed off
of it as quickly as he would have liked him?

Speaker 14 (21:55):
I did like it. I did like it.

Speaker 13 (21:56):
I thought it was exactly what we needed, you know,
and some youthful energy and certainly, you know, he finished
his checks.

Speaker 14 (22:03):
I thought he played well.

Speaker 15 (22:07):
Coach, you mentioned a couple of mistakes tonight. Have were
those mistakes happening as much at the beginning of the season, Like,
are is just things coming back to bite you that
maybe weren't biting you earlier, or are you seeing lapses
now that are coming up more. I don't know if
it's that the team is pushing to try to create
more offense, Like, what do you think is leading to that?

Speaker 14 (22:29):
Yeah, that's a good question. No, I think that.

Speaker 13 (22:31):
I think it's it's just biting us a little more now.
There was you know, it wasn't like we were mistake free, certainly,
but but right now it's you know, it's magnified, right
because you.

Speaker 14 (22:43):
Know you're not winning and you're.

Speaker 13 (22:45):
Having trouble scoring goals five on five, so those little
mistakes get magnified.

Speaker 6 (22:50):
Notice you shortened the bench in the third of what
made you want to put Shane and you know, doubling
up his shifts and putting him in that spot.

Speaker 14 (22:58):
Well, I thought he was gone.

Speaker 13 (22:59):
I thought, you know, he was skating well, and you know,
I thought that you know, getting him out there more
would would potentially be a turning point or tipping.

Speaker 14 (23:08):
Point for a team. And did you feel like it
accomplished that?

Speaker 6 (23:11):
Yeah?

Speaker 13 (23:11):
I thought we had some good chances, like I said
in the third period, and then thought he played well.

Speaker 6 (23:16):
Those words from crackenhead coach Lane Lambert, which included the
one phrase we have to play the perfect game quotes
end quote tough one here for the Kraken as a
fall three one of the Buffalo Sabers. Welcome back in
a bit with more and you're listening to the Global
Credit Union crack An Audio Network.

Speaker 5 (23:35):
It's signe.

Right now four nine four five one on the KJR
text line, what are your thoughts after this one where
the Craken again struggle to find any kind of source
of offense besides this one goal as a fall three
one of the Buffalo sabers, and again win or lose,
We're here for you each and every time. On Talking
Cracking Rebecca Tom's watch bar live across from Climate Pledgerina

(35:31):
Mike Benton al Kaniski joining us as well again four
nine four five one, Texas here on the KJAR text line,
Now my opening thoughts here for this, It's a game
the Kraken had to have. They had to have because
you're facing a Buffalo team. And again easy for us
to say that, you know, you know, you're trying to
find a way to muster any kind of energy up

(35:52):
and there's a lot of illness going through this team,
but every team is going through it a lot.

Speaker 1 (35:55):
We've heard it from around the league as well.

Speaker 6 (35:57):
You face the Buffalo team at the end of their
six game trip there also got illness going on throughout
their entire room. But here for a game like this,
when you're trying to find anything to generate one goal
is not enough. And I go back to what Lane
Lambert said, you have to play the perfect game to
put yourself in position. So the consequences of this game, my,

(36:18):
oh my, dude, you have a big task at hand
coming up Tuesday against the Colorado Avalanche.

Speaker 4 (36:24):
Yeah, talking about needing a perfect game, you're gonna need
one against the Colorado Avalanche when they roll into town.

Speaker 5 (36:29):
Here.

Speaker 4 (36:29):
You know they're they're a team that's stout on the
front end, the back end. Their goaltending is top notch
right now. But you know, I like Lane's comments striving
for perfection because you strive for perfection, then you accept excellence.
And I think that's what's missing right now is I
think the team is striving for excellence and sometimes only
getting good. And for this team, that's not good enough.

(36:50):
They've got to strive for that perfection to win hockey games.

Speaker 6 (36:53):
And again it goes right back here to how much
more of this team misses Jared McCann, How much more
of this team misses Jaden Schwartz.

Speaker 1 (37:01):
That's a big source of offense.

Speaker 6 (37:02):
You're taking away not just from one, but two parts
here of the ice mccannser shooter, and then you've got
Jaden Schwartz, who does so well additionally right at the
front of that. But as of right now, the crack
and are still struggling for solutions.

Speaker 4 (37:14):
Yeah, through the first two periods of the hockey game,
Cracking with nine high danger chances. Okay, those are chances
in the house in front of the net, the slot area,
kind of high slot area. They were able to generate
one goal and it was off a face off, off
the power play. They're not executing enough of their high
danger chances. It was eleven to nine in their favor
over the course of the sixty minute hockey game. And

(37:35):
when you're only you know, when you're only getting one
goal out of that, the problem isn't necessarily creating office
because eleven high danjure chances should be enough. It's executing.
It's finishing those high danger chances. And that's what was
not happening enough tonight.

Speaker 6 (37:48):
And again we're gonna get to your reaction four nine,
four or five. One is we're right back at Tom's
watch bar. We're gonna hear from Jacob Allanson a little
bit later on, and I think that's pretty important because
him coming up from the American Hockey League in a
time like this gives you extra opportunity to make a
big impression. Maybe you're not asking him to score a
big goal, but you're looking for him to generate energy,

(38:10):
generate live And I can't think of a better way
he could do something like that and be a cantalyst
that have four hits. I repeat, four hits in his
first little over roughly two minutes, two shifts, in two
shifts a period.

Speaker 1 (38:25):
One had seven hits.

Speaker 5 (38:26):
Yeah, seven hits on the night.

Speaker 4 (38:27):
And you know, I'm gonna spend a little time going
deep into the data here after we get done tonight.
I want to find the last game where a Kraken
player had seven hits in the entire game. I don't
know that there's been one this season. Again, hits don't
necessarily put pucks into net, But to your point, they
create energy, they create mistakes, they create a distraction for
the opposing team. You see, You saw what happened there

(38:49):
when Buffalo started focusing on Jacob Molons a little bit.
Takes away focus of other players, gives other players guys
like ever League guys like Matty Benier's, guys like McCann
when he's in the line, gives them more space on
the ice because they're focused on a guy like Jacob Malanson.
Hey look to the East coast and Tom Watson. Yeah,
that's what he does. So you know, uh, if he
can play that way, I think it gives the Kraken

(39:12):
a piece that they've been missing.

Speaker 6 (39:14):
We've come to this point now where and we heard
this from Piper Shaw back in Lane Lambert's media scrum
a few minutes ago in a TV interview that she
had with Brandon Montor for the Crack and Hockey Network.
It's now gotten to the point where you're now calling
out teammates in that where Montor said not enough emotion,
not enough urgency. And this is coming here from a

(39:36):
guy who won a Stanley Cup as well in Florida,
and really and where I say, we're at that point
you lose more and more games. You're now slipping away
from the playoff picture because now we're all of a
sudden starting to see that big cluster right in the
middle break up here in the Western Conference.

Speaker 4 (39:52):
Oh yeah, the best start in franchise history. Unfortunately, that
start has now slid back to your five hundred again.
And I remember last season when the team was below
five hundred. You thought, Okay, if you just win this game,
if you win, get a point here, you'll get closer
and closer to five hundred, you'll get above five hundred.
And they started out well above five hundred over the
first you know, twenty games of the season. But things
have taken a big slide here and now you're starting

(40:14):
to question will they have a chance at a wildcard spot.
They've got to turn this around big time because it's
not gonna get an easier between now and the end
of January.

Speaker 6 (40:23):
We're gonna get to the Colorado game a little bit
later on. Plus also again reaction from Jacob Alanson, who
I'll tell you made a big impression here in his
first game called up from AHL Coachella Valley, and I
love his assertiveness. I loved his energy, I love hearing
even the confidence in his voice went out. You and
Everett talk with them back between periods two and three.

(40:43):
But we're gonna get more reaction here from the kJ
R text line. So folks again, Texas right now, very
simple question, what's your takeaway from tonight? What's your takeaway
at this point of the season? Four nine, four five one.
We get one reaction here from the four to two
five just bringing up bitious about just basic fundamental hockey
as far as you know, connecting with passes, possessing the
puck as well. That from the four to five then

(41:06):
I think we've heard more and more about playing connected.
That was a big issue. I think though to me,
as compared to maybe about two weeks ago, the plane
with connectivity wasn't as big of an issue as it was,
say maybe a little before the Edmonton game, because we
pointed this right back out. When you control the game
and shot attempts at fifty five to forty two at

(41:28):
five on five, you get eleven hight angered chances as well,
you are finding ways to work toward the front of
the net. But yet right now it's that finishing ability
which has escaped this team.

Speaker 4 (41:38):
Yeah, and that's why I say you had enough offensive
opportunities to win this game four to two. You made
a couple of mistakes. That's where Buffalo took advantage of it,
and they executed on those mistakes two goals over the
first first two periods. But it was the opportunities that
Seattle had that they weren't able to execute on that
could have been the different upcome in this game.

Speaker 6 (42:01):
Again, head coach Lane Lambert is saying that the Kraken
they had looks, they had chances, but again they had
mistakes that this team can't make. And with that acostly turnover,
I can't help but think of maybe how that goal
by Tave Thompson. I don't want to call it a
backbreaker just yet because the Kraken got back right out
of the game and they had their lookser for period three,
but that was certainly a gut punch.

Speaker 1 (42:22):
And so I think really at this sense.

Speaker 6 (42:24):
You could really understand and hear the frustration in Lane
Lambert's voice, which I think was a new thing for
us here for this season. You know, he tends to,
you know, play this with you know, a dose of accountability.
But you heard some patients in his voice, and now
it really seems like you're at this point that you're
you're looking for any kind of extreme measures here to
get this thing fixed.

Speaker 4 (42:44):
Yeah, I mean, you know this, this team has to
win close games. And I'm not saying that they intentionally
want to keep the games closed. That's just the way
they play. They do it and they do a good job.
So you did a great job job better. He pointed
this out back in the in the pregame show. But
it's not to take anything away from him, but they
don't have a Nathan McKinnon, they don't have a Conor McDavid,
they don't have a cal mccarr. They've got a bunch

(43:05):
of guys that if they work really hard, they take
advantage of their opportunities and they strive for a perfect game,
they're gonna end up on top more times than they're not.
And if they don't play that way, that's when you
see the big the big swings where it's a big
Edmonton loss or you just end up on the wrong
side of a one goal.

Speaker 6 (43:22):
Game again four nine, four or five one, Texas. Right
now on the KJR text line, what's your biggest takeaway
here from this evening? What's going to fix this offense again?
Four nine four or five one? Is we're live right
back at Tom's watch bar. I want to bring something
up and react. One from what Lane Lambert said, and
that he was shortening the bench, which means you're giving
ice time more to others and you're giving less to

(43:44):
those and they're effectively stuck right back on the bench.
It's a very typical move and a very savvy move
that experienced coaches do. That's what this team has with
Lane Lambert, but giving Shane Wright more ice time. I
give credit here to the question that was asked right
back in the media. Right, of course, did not score,
but had a couple of shots on goal. Lane Lambert

(44:04):
said he saw Shane Wright really get going. He wanted
to reward him. The feeling I get is that the
more and more that Shane Wright plays with confidence, the
more and more that he is able to hang on
to the puck, not so much out of complete selfishness,
but really more so with purpose. And it's almost kind
of like with what Berkeley Katton does. Now we've seen
this more hanging onto the puck, the draw defenders in

(44:27):
and open up spacing for more of your teammates. Case
in point for me was the Ben Meyers shot that
they had back in the second period. Theysed to just
stay no zone time where I kept the play along
the blue line very difficult you're moving at that high
rate of speed, But yet it was that play that
unloaded and unlocked the door for Myers to uncork one

(44:47):
for the left circle. The more and more we can
see Shane Wright make plays like that, I think the
better for him, and maybe you're finally starting to unlock
the door for even more offense out of him.

Speaker 4 (44:58):
Yeah, he centered to Ryan Winter and Yanni Newman tonight
Coachella boys, and you know, obviously you're comfortable playing with anybody,
but when it's guys you've played with in Coachella, there's
an added element there. So he seemed really comfortable with that.
I thought he looked pretty good tonight. He did have
a shot on goalie, had a hit. Janni Newman on
his line had two hits tonight, and you're not seeing
a lot of physicality from Yanny Neuman, but I think

(45:19):
he's turning the corner at least starting to understand the
way he needs to play a little bit. Winterton, I
thought had a pretty good game as well. So that line,
if left together for a few games, you might start
to see them convert on.

Speaker 6 (45:29):
A few twenty four hits on the Crakenside sixteen for
Buffalo and guests who led them we already talked about
him earlier. That was Jacob Malanson and for good measure,
Ellie Tolbnan had three hits in this game, Paara hits
also for Adam Larson, Chandler Stevenson. I thought a great
point that you and ever have brought up as far
as the well roundedness of his game. He had a
couple of hits as well. Of course he's known for offense,

(45:51):
but also Newman two hits, Riker Evans two hits as
well in this game again four nine, four or five
to one for back at Tom's Watch Bar Live as
a back and fall three one two the Buffalo Sabers.
We get some reaction here from the four two five saying,
especially with Jared mccannon injured, we need someone else here
to step up. Al you mentioned about the lines and

(46:12):
keeping that bottom trio, yeah, stuck together. What a surprise
you to see maybe again another shake up, especially at
the top here.

Speaker 4 (46:20):
You know, I think that Lae Laffert is going to
continue to do that until he starts to see production
out of out of at least his top six on
his forwards. He's going to continue to tweak things and
and look for you know, not just not just creation
of offense, but execution of offense. And like I said,
with mccannon and Schwartz out, that's difficult, but that doesn't
mean it can't happen. It just means that, you know,

(46:41):
you've got to get the right set of guys together
that can funnel pucksinet that can go hard to net,
then that can find rebounds, can find deflections. It doesn't
necessarily have to be tic tac toe, but you've got
to find guys that that that that will do work
the greasy areas and are willing to go hard to
the front of the net battles to stay there to.

Speaker 6 (47:00):
Score goals four to two five saying, if you get
a star on this team that really helps his team
out here and with that, I need to set it
up to get the puck in and especially it would
certainly help on breakaway shootouts, et cetera. That from the
four to two five. Another one here separately from the
four to two five saying, needing to realize the defense
is so good that the Kraken can take time to

(47:20):
set the puck up in the offensive zone to make
those players and to get it as well with funneling
pucks on that paraphrase, and that they're from the four
to two five again, Mike Benton Alkaniski with you. I
want to hear from here right now four nine, four
to five one text us as far as what your
reaction is from this one even.

Speaker 1 (47:37):
Maybe what's your best solution for.

Speaker 6 (47:39):
The Kraken heading into this week after this evening's game,
which I think certainly begins on Tuesday against what maybe
the most threatening team in the NHL, the Colorado Avalanche,
just two regulation losses, I rep two regulation losses on
the entire season. It's not going to get much easier
because they also play four on the road after So again,

(48:00):
Texas your best solution here for the Kraken and on
their side this week at four nine four five one.
All right, before we go to break here, I want
to discuss additionally the play in net here for the
Kraken and Joey to Cord once again tonight, I thought
deserving much better than what he was handed. Unfortunately, twenty
saves on twenty two shots, so at least he had
to walk away with a little bit of encouragement as

(48:23):
far as where his game could be right now at
the end of this evening.

Speaker 4 (48:25):
Yeah, I didn't see any big mistakes by Joey Tocord tonight.
His save percentage ended above nine hundred. His goals against
I think coming into the game were the high twos.
He ends up with a two goals against average, so
he improved on both of his stats tonight. I think
he did his part. I think anytime your goaltender can
keep the goals against to two or less, he's putting
you in a position to win a hockey game. You

(48:47):
have to go out and do the job at the
other end. And like I said the Cracker, we're just
unable to get get it done putting pucks past Alex
Lion tonight.

Speaker 6 (48:55):
Where are we at right now with special teams. They
go one for three on the power play tonight and
the one that they scored very quick, simple play, and
so you don't get a long look as far as
their structure, but you do what you're paid to do
and basically get pucks on that. But the penalty kill
as well over to and we talked about this as
well in pregame. This penalty kill overall still struggling, but

(49:19):
maybe turning the corner. And after giving up seven goals
and nine chances, they have now killed off ten of twelve.
But I thought, especially here for tonight, they get a
big kill in the second period and virtually nothing getting across.
That was a big sign of improvement for me on
the PK.

Speaker 5 (49:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (49:37):
I mean this cracket team has quite a rotating cast
of characters. In the power Play. They've got ten different
guys that have one goal or more. And you might say, well,
there's you know, there's ten guys on two power plays.
That's good, right, Well it's not good because some of
those guys aren't on the power Play right now, or
they're injured McCann and Schwartz. So it's difficult when you've
got guys coming in and out of the power Play

(49:58):
because just like having synergy, chemistry, whatever you already want
to use with your line, you have the same thing
with the power play as well. And so when you
can keep the same five guys together and they're actually
having success, power play gets stronger and stronger and stronger
because you just get used to knowing what guys are
gonna do. And when you've got guys coming in and
coming out, you're constantly having to readjust oh, this guy

(50:19):
likes to go to this area that, oh, this guy,
you know, passes a little store.

Speaker 5 (50:23):
So I have to get in this position.

Speaker 4 (50:25):
It takes time, and I think that's part of the
reason why the power play has been struggling.

Speaker 6 (50:29):
As far as the kill is concerned, when you're facing
a team that's on a heater like Buffalo is and
the firepower that they have and Rasmus Dahlin, Tase Thompson,
Alex Tuck. Yeah, it really says something here, but I
think leading into that, when you give up mistakes to Buffalo,
you give them up here to the wrong guys Josh Norris,
Alex Tuck. They can play with the pucks, certainly, and

(50:49):
then Tase Thompson who finishes off that play in the
second period. You cannot give a two to zero up
to anybody, let alone Tase Thompson when he's on the ice.

Speaker 5 (50:58):
No, you can't. There's just too much time allent there.

Speaker 4 (51:00):
And unfortunately the you know, I talked a little bit
about puck luck tonight that there wasn't enough of coming
to the Seattle side. There was a little bit too
much going to the Buffalo side. I don't mean puck
luck in terms of the puck going to the net,
but puck lucky resulting in scoring opportunities to see above
t Thompson.

Speaker 6 (51:16):
So at that again, the crack and fall three one
of the Buffalo Sabers again, still trying to climb out
of a hole of just one win now in the
last nine games.

Speaker 1 (51:24):
Colorado is up next.

Speaker 6 (51:25):
We'll touch on them here in just a bit and
how the Cracking have to approach that game. But we're
also going to hear from Jacob Alanson and react to
him with a pretty impressive physical debut. The Cracking is
certainly needing it, and he came out swinging, so to speak,
with seven hits in this game to lead the Crack
in despite just one goal on the board as a
Crack and fall three one two the Buffalo Sabers. Mike

(51:45):
Benton Alkanewski right back here at Tom's watchbar across from
Climbing Pledge Arena. Tables are still open, but they're filling
up right now pretty fast. So come on and and
join us asap if you're around the area. We'll come
back in a bit and a little bit more here
on Talk and back on ninety three to three KJRFM.

Speaker 2 (52:03):
Now back to duck in Kracking with Mike Binton on
your home of a Cracking sports radio Letty three point
three kJ r FM.

Speaker 6 (52:12):
All right, we're back at Tom's washbar right across from
climbing Pledge Arena as a crack and again just one
goal unfortunately on their side and falling through one here
to the Buffalo Sabers, remaining five points out of the
cut line in the Western Conference.

Speaker 1 (52:25):
All right, back downstairs we go.

Speaker 6 (52:26):
More reaction here from the recently called up forward Jacob
Allanson meeting with the media.

Speaker 23 (52:34):
Maybe you didn't waste a lot of time getting getting
your first hit with the games that helped you kind
of settle into the action.

Speaker 5 (52:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 24 (52:40):
I mean the way I play, I played physically. I
bring energy and the easiest way to get into it
is get that first big hit and I feel felt
much better after that.

Speaker 23 (52:47):
You're kind of dropping in an odd time here with
the team kind of in a tough situation in terms
of puffins have been going. What's your kind of take
been on just the mood of the team here so
far since.

Speaker 5 (52:57):
You've dropped in.

Speaker 24 (52:58):
Yeah, I mean everyone's been welcoming, happy to have me,
and I thought tonight I brought my energy, brought my physicality,
and I'll keep bringing that when the team needs it,
and I feel like I can be a big part
of that.

Speaker 23 (53:08):
When did you find out you were going to play something.

Speaker 24 (53:11):
I've found out when I got to the rink here
at round three.

Speaker 6 (53:18):
All right, that's forward Jacob Allanson, very brief meeting with
the media right there as the cracken again gets seven
hits out of him and his first game called up
from ahl Coachelle Valley text here from the four to
two five say, mindset is an underrated tool in the
sport of hockey. I'll tell you what, Jacob Allanson nailed
the assignment. He came in, knew what he had to do.
Play physical play, brash play with assertedness. And now the

(53:41):
question is, I think what's up next year for him
al in game two when he's played back in and
how much more that can really bring an infectious effect
if you will across the entire team.

Speaker 4 (53:51):
Well, listen, if he goes into the lineup Tuesday against Colorado,
they're gonna need that physicality to slow the Colorado Avalanche
down as much as possible. They if they could, they
play him on every single shift just for that reason alone.
So maybe his physicality will spread to the other players
on his line, which then spreads to the other players
on the ice. Tendler Stevenson had two hits tonight. I'm
not saying that's because of Jacob mo Lonston's play, but

(54:13):
when everybody's playing that way, you become hard to play against.

Speaker 6 (54:16):
Well, I think also, I mean people may be asking
this question here for those who are still learning about
this game, because he only played tonight in seven forty
seven of ice time, and you're thinking, well, if he's
making that big of an impact, well, why don't you
play in the entire game. Well, it's a lot more
complicated than that. So the question is how can you
plug him in to be effective and also find a
way to have that effect take across as far as

(54:38):
his game and his attributes across the entire lineup and
put the fodes out of our best suit of here
to score.

Speaker 4 (54:43):
Yeah, I mean I think that you know, you want
to be obviously more than a one dimensional player, and
tonight his dimension was physicality.

Speaker 5 (54:49):
He went hard to the net as well.

Speaker 4 (54:51):
If puckso would have bounced different ways, he might have
had an as sister a goal, but they didn't.

Speaker 5 (54:55):
But I think that if you let him.

Speaker 4 (54:56):
Play that way for two, three, four games in a row,
but that time on ice will go up and you
might even start to see some offense generated that comes
off of his.

Speaker 6 (55:05):
Stick seven O eight saying wants to see more selfishness
year from the forward still and too many facilitators and
not enough shooting going on from the seven o Waight, Al,
what's your reaction.

Speaker 4 (55:14):
Yeah, I mean the shots on goal weren't as high
as last game. I think they finished with twenty four
shots on goal. But like I said, high danger chances
at eleven for Seattle. To me, that's enough to win
a game three two, four to two if you're able
to execute it. You don't need twenty high danger chances.
Each of those are scoring opportunities from the house area
in front of the net, So I those don't come

(55:35):
as a result of not being selfish. They come as
a result of shooting the puck. And I didn't see
too many times where I thought players passed off the
puck instead of shooting it tonight like we'd seen probably
I don't know, a week or two ago.

Speaker 1 (55:48):
And this is the way it's gonna be right now.

Speaker 6 (55:49):
And so you can get guys back in like Jared McCann,
get guys in like Jayden Schwartz, Get guys in who
can carry it to and it looks like with more
confidence than Berkeley Catton. And for the time this is
gonna be just again the same kind of formula. You've
got a funnel pucks right toward the front of the net.
But also play with confidence because we're getting into a
very very i think treacherous point right now to try

(56:11):
to keep that confidence maintained.

Speaker 5 (56:12):
Alt.

Speaker 4 (56:12):
Yeah, and the other thing that might happen is you
might see not not only more goals going in five
on five you get those guys back in the lineup,
but just see the power play percentage go up as well.
Was one for three tonight, that's pretty good. Yeah, but
you need to start seeing, you know, two for three,
two for four, that sort of thing, end scoring even
strength as well to win these games.

Speaker 6 (56:30):
So how do the Craken package all of that? Coming
up here for Tuesday? That's up next.

Speaker 1 (56:35):
For the Kraken against the Colorado Avalanche.

Speaker 6 (56:37):
First meeting it was coming and the Avalanche right now
playing like a ten thousand ton wagon. My goodness, twenty
three to two and seven. They won't get there, you think,
but they're on base for a hundred and third ever,
tell me they've.

Speaker 4 (56:52):
They've slid recently over the last eight games. I had
a hard time believing that.

Speaker 6 (56:55):
But they lead the NHL and regulation wins, they lead
the NHL and five on five goal ratio. They've got
star power, they can defend number one PK in the NHL,
better goaltending. But also with the captain Gabriel Landeskog back,
my goodness, they're playing like they're on a mission right now.
So what do you do behind Nathan McKinnon, because he's

(57:15):
gonna get this pug touch us here that that's gonna
be a challenge. But the big challenge you ever Colorado
might be secondary scoring because you have McKinnon twenty six
goals Heard Trophy favorite, and after that down to fourteen
goals for Martin Ais and then Tory Lekin and Brock
Nelson with twelve and Calee mccarr with ten.

Speaker 4 (57:32):
Oh yeah, I mean the last time the Colorado scored
less than three goals in a game was way back
on the twenty eighth. They scored two to two tie
or two two game that went to overtime with Minnesota
or shootout. I think that's gonna be the cracking recipe
for success on Tuesday. You've got to keep this Colorado
team under or three goals or less to stay in
this game, and then create the same number of high

(57:53):
Deger chances you did tonight, execute on a couple of more,
and you find yourself in the tight hockey game once again.
As you and I always talk about heading into the
third period within a goal which gives yourself a chance
for a whip.

Speaker 1 (58:04):
I certainly agree with me.

Speaker 6 (58:04):
A controllable game of five on five, stay out of
the box and keep the puck away from five on
four situations involving mccarr McKinnon. You're gonna put yourself in
good position here, so the crack and looking to see
if they can get that you'd turn on Tuesday. It's
all the time we have for now, folks, say, really appreciated.
The responses were terrific here all night this evening, and
our big thanks as well to Travis Smuger, our technical director,

(58:26):
and Terry Ryan as well are on site engineer, and
to the staff here at Tom's Watch Bar, and we'll
do it for here for al Koniski. This is Mike
Benton saying good night from Climbate Pledge Arena and Tom's
Watch Bar and thank you for joining us. Your final
score once again this evening, the Buffalo Sabers three and
the SEATTL Kraken one. This is Talking Cracking on ninety
