Speaker 1 (00:00):
And the Cracking power play Lord.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
This is the Kraking Postgame Show, brought to you by
Toyota of Olympia. Now for an in depth look at
your Kraken Hockey. It's the post game on the Global
Credit Union Kraken Audio Network.
Speaker 3 (00:16):
For the final times and I had welcome back inside
of Climate Plage Arena alongside al Kiniski.
Speaker 4 (00:22):
I am Everett fits you.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
Cracking fall three to two in overtime, they get a point.
The points streak lives on now eight oh and two
in their last ten games. And we were going into
this third period thinking that, you know the wild We're
gonna continue doing what they do best, grind this game down.
Not a whole lot of action, not a whole lot
of excitement. Cracking weren't really able to get much of
(00:45):
anything going. And then they get two goals in that
third period, three point thirteen in from Adam Larsen, nine
oh seven from Addymaniers.
Speaker 4 (00:52):
They had some good chances to.
Speaker 3 (00:53):
Take the lead in that third You go to overtime,
probably not the cleanest of overtimes, out shot four nothing
in overtime and then two o nine and Matt Zucarello
netting his fifth of the season to send.
Speaker 4 (01:07):
Them while on to the win.
Speaker 5 (01:08):
Yeah, I think the crack had earned themselves a chance
to win this hockey game in overtime. They earned themselves
that chance. Unfortunately, I agree it was sloppy and overtime
wasn't their typical structure. Passes were not there, you know,
the drop pass, simple drop pass turned into a dump
across the ice. So nothing overtime they wanted. But they
earned a chance to play in overtime, which means they
earned another point. You don't have to win every game
(01:30):
to make the playoffs. But when you compete in every game,
when you come back from being down to nothing, you
earn a point as a result. That's a sign of
a resilient team and a team that's head in the
right direction, you know what.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
It's funny sometimes we'll talk to Lane Lambert for our
pregame chats and he'll say just that you don't have
to win every game, And I look at him sometimes
and I'm like, oh, man, really, Oh I guess.
Speaker 5 (01:53):
You don't have to. Yeah, you go four and six,
three and one like like that's that. That's hockey. Like,
you know, no one expects you to win two games,
but you know, when you're competing in any two games,
when you're when you're you know not I don't want
to say giving up, but when you're down two goals
and you just don't really you're not feeling it. Uh,
those are teams that don't go on. This team tonight,
they continue to battle in that in that third period.
(02:14):
The the larst And goal a result of just a
flurry of opportunities in front that finally made its way
past of Alstad, and then the power play opportunities that again,
you earned those power plays and you take advantage of them.
On the Matty Benier's goal, again, it's not a highlight
reel goal. It's Matty Benier's going hard than that. You
get the shot through, he finds the rebound. It's all
of a sudden to nothing and you've earned yourself a
(02:35):
chance to win the hockey game.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
And again I say that just because when you're on
these kind of streaks, you want to win every game.
You feel you feel like win every game. If a thing,
you gotta get dropped back down to reality.
Speaker 6 (02:46):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
He was held off the score sheet tonight, But I
think for me outside of the goal scorers, Ellie told
it was the most impactful player of the evening.
Speaker 5 (02:56):
Yeah, absolutely, I mean you you say an impactful tongue.
And he ended up with three block shots. I think
all three were off his feet, yep, and I don't
think it was the same foot, So he's probably icing
both these tonight going into the locker room. I mentioned
it in the broadcast. Blocking shots is you know, something
to warriors do and when you do it off your
shin pads that that's difficult enough. But when you're taking
(03:18):
slap shots rist shots off your feet, there's only a
quarter inch of leather between between that that puck and
in your in your foot, and he blocked three like
that tonight.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
Philip Grubauer another I would say outstanding performance by him.
Both goals in the first period. There were some screens
in front. One of them, uh, you know, his own player.
Another was a layered screen from the wild. Not a
whole lot he could do about that. He made some
big saves when this team needed him, and again Lane Lambert.
(03:47):
Number of the defensemen have said multiple times, Grooby, Joey, Matt,
whoever's in goal, they've been good back there, and tonight
Philip Grubauer was good back there.
Speaker 5 (03:57):
Well, I've said it many times too that your goaltender
can't get you just you can't win every game. Your
goaltender can get you a shutout every game. But if
he can keep it to two or less, you should
be able to compete and win a lot of hockey games.
And again he kept it to two or less. You know,
you would have liked to have kept it the less.
He's had one goal against the last four games. He
gave up one extra tonight. That leaves his team in
(04:17):
a position to go out and potentially win a hockey game,
but they end up getting a point, losing in overtime.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
So now the Craken head out on the road for
some pretty tough games year, not a lot of time
to recover. Tomorrow. You're gonna be in Carolina on Saturday night.
You're gonna be at MSG on Monday, at New Jersey
on Wednesday. By the way, Mike Bentont on the radio
call both of those games. Thursday you go up to
Boston for an eight o'clock start, so you at least
(04:45):
get an extra hour to recover from your Jersey game.
You have a Saturday matinee next week in Utah, so
a conference game that you'd love to win and put
some more distance between you and those teams behind you.
But this road trip is not an easy one coming
up for Seattle.
Speaker 5 (05:01):
No, it absolutely isn't. But you've got to look at
it and say, you know, realistically, can you get three
of five? Can you can you get ten points or
can you get eight points of this under this trip?
If it ends up being losses and overtime, fine they're not.
They're not regulation losses. You get points ont of them.
But you're also gotta come up with a free wins
as well and.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
Also saving gray silver lining. You don't want to lose games,
but if you're gonna lose them, lose them out East, Yees,
don't lose them here in the West. Three to two
crack and fall in overtime to the Minnesota Wild.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
Ow your key takeaways and.
Speaker 4 (05:35):
Your three stars.
Speaker 5 (05:35):
Yeah, key takeaways from me tonight was you know missing
Brandon montour tonight. I wrote that down way through the game.
We talked about on the broadcast. You know that that
extra push of offense that you get from having him
in the lineup. Uh, you know, the Crackers, we're losing
too many puck battles over the first forty minutes. I
think they cleaned that up in the in the third
period as they kind of buckled down looking for the
first goal of the game and they found it. And
(05:57):
it's that resilience that they got them in position to
win this hockey game and take it to overtime. The
big third period push with two goals in the first
ten minutes of the period was the reason why that happened.
Three Stars brought to you by Mama Kay. Philip Grubauer
was the third Star of the game, stopping thirty one
of thirty four. He had a nine to one to
two save percentage. Big role for him tonight, keeping the
(06:19):
door closed at two. Second Star of the game goes
to Vince Dunn, assisting on both of those goals in
the third period, so a big game from him. Four
shots on goal for done as well. And then the
first Star went to Matt Zucarello of the Minnesota While
with the ot game winning goal.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
That'll do it for us.
Speaker 3 (06:36):
From the press box, crack and fall by a three
to two score, We're gonna head down to Mike Benton
standing by with anders Hurst, gonna join him on the
postgame show in a matter of moments, Mikey b the
floor is yours.
Speaker 7 (06:48):
Yeah, looking forward to it, Fellas, thanks very much once again.
And we asked this question about twenty minutes ago. Could
the Kraken find their way to climb out of a
two nothing hole with twenty minutes left this evening? The
answer was yes, that good enough two fours over time,
but Matt and Zucarello ending at two oh nine in
So the Kraken right now settle here for the constellation point.
(07:09):
But it does help and matters here for the standings,
as they pushed their run by the way to eighth
to two last ten games, and they were so close
to their second third period come back win of the season,
win down by two goals, but the crack and fall
in overtime three to two to Minnesota. Yet they get
to within two points of the Pacific Division lead. We'll
(07:30):
tell you more about how this shuffle happened a little
bit later on here in post game cover does Everett
and I'll mention Andrews seers by my side here for
a talk and Kraken four nine four five one text
us right now on the kJ R text line with
your reaction here to tonight we'll talk about it here
later on again four nine, four or five to one plus.
We'll have highlights, we'll have scores. We'll also have more
(07:50):
reaction back from downstairs as the crack and again this
evening put their runout to now eighth and two last
ten games, but falling three to two in overtime to Minnesota.
Postgame rolls on, We're back in a bit. This is
the Global Credit Union Cracking Audio Network.

could win a twenty five one hundred dollars scholarship Tech
student to five sixty three one four to join well
as far as fans here in the building. They got
their entertainment value for this seat being m krackens showing
that again down to nothing, the comeback attempt not too
(10:40):
far out of reach, and they storm right back with
a pair of goals in period three to two for
US overtime, helping them out in the standings. Backstopped here
by Philip Grubauer plus the offense from Adam Larsen and
Matty Veneers, but Matt and Zucarello had the finishing touches
a two to nine of overtime. Man your final score int.
Minnesota three and the crack and two here in this
(11:01):
second matchup of three meetings between these two teams. Again
Mike betting with you back at the cors Light landing
in section twenty the Kraken record moving to twenty fourteen
and eight forty eight points. Now on the season, they
are two back at first place in the Pacific, shared
by Vegas and Edmonton Minnesota, ending their seven game road
trip with a win, improving to twenty six eleven and
(11:24):
eight point total ADS sixty and they get out of
a bump in the road, winless in back to back games.
One more matchup for these two teams that won't happen
until April seventh in Minnesota. Time out for the highlights
and this Seebra Kraken Drive to the next scoring recap
is brought to you by Chevy Silverado. Bring on the
tough stuff, because with nine trims and four available engines,
(11:47):
Chevy Silverado is ready to accept all challenges. Chevy Silverado
your own personal power play. The Wild got out to
a one to nothing lead five minutes into the game.
Ryan Hartman, through a screen, drilled his eleventh goal the season,
pass Philip Grubauer Carilla Caprisov had to assist, and then
Brock Faber through a multi layer set of screens, got
(12:09):
his tenth on the year at fifteen fifty four from
Quinn Hughes and Matt Buldy, proving the Kraken had some
work to do. Falling down to nothing to Minnesota through
just twenty minutes of play, the tide seems to flatten
out a bit in the second period, no scoring, as
well as Minnesota outshot the Krack in eight to six,
also in a penalty free second period, But matters turning
(12:33):
around for the Kraken. Beginning a little over three minutes
into period three.
Speaker 3 (12:39):
Myers had lost it in front card shade of the
blue paint.
Speaker 4 (12:42):
That one knocked down.
Speaker 1 (12:43):
It's done. Let circle shot begs.
Speaker 4 (12:45):
It up the.
Speaker 1 (12:48):
Scars, It's done. Off the pipe, the big chat on
the bowels on the right side, and the crack on
the board.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
Two on sixteen forty seven to play in regulation.
Speaker 5 (13:04):
Well, it all starts with a great ozone eye entry
by Seattle there to get.
Speaker 1 (13:07):
The puck to the further of the Dead. But then
it's Ben.
Speaker 5 (13:10):
Myers from behind the Dead who put the puck out
front to Don Doun puts it off the post.
Speaker 6 (13:15):
As you said, that.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
Rebound goes right to Larson.
Speaker 4 (13:18):
He finds the back of the Dead.
Speaker 1 (13:19):
This lead's been cutting half two one minutes.
Speaker 4 (13:21):
Let it down.
Speaker 7 (13:22):
It seemed maybe like it was a matter of time
when Vin's done and Adam Larson got on the isavers
so close in period two, then seconds before that goal,
so close Larson will finally put one end right pass
yes Per Volstead for his third goal of the season,
that ending a fifteen game goals scoring drought. Larson's third
of the year at three thirteen got the Cracking back
(13:43):
in the game down to one Done had the only
assist on the play. Then penalties we mentioned earlier, both
teams combining for nothing as far as penalties in the
second period, but the Wild got into penalty issues later on.
But Jacob Middleton offered tripping at six nine and then
Jakav Trenyon off for elbow wing, giving the Kraken new
(14:05):
life right here on the power play in what could
they do?
Speaker 3 (14:09):
Left side, Steven sent back to Don.
Speaker 1 (14:11):
The can one timer turn aside green.
Speaker 12 (14:21):
Mad Evaniers follows up the play, Bay told the rebound
we're tied to two ten fifty three left in.
Speaker 1 (14:31):
The third buff it's done. Getting start at the back
of the offensive. Blue lighting fights McCann off the top
of the circles.
Speaker 4 (14:38):
Mc cann, as he.
Speaker 1 (14:39):
Does on the power play, puts a hard one on
that big rebound there for number ten.
Speaker 4 (14:44):
He puts it in.
Speaker 7 (14:45):
His game's tied at that point this night, building up
to a big night for Matty Beniers in right now
playing as fine as hockey as far as production. He
got his eighth goal the season again a nine toh
seven six point last five games as well him that
tied the game at two.
Speaker 4 (15:02):
Jared McCann and beings.
Speaker 7 (15:03):
Some of the helpers for the league's second best power
play since early December. They would go one of three
here for the night, by the way, and on that
goal done, recording his eighth multi assist period with the Kraken,
surpassing Jared McCann for the most enfranchise story that gave
the Krack a new life and made this one a
brand new game. Tied at two, forcing overtime and then
(15:27):
much more open ice for both teams.
Speaker 4 (15:29):
But who would have the final, say, two.
Speaker 1 (15:32):
Fifty five to go on overtime?
Speaker 3 (15:34):
Caprizov two on one, He's got Sugarreto.
Speaker 1 (15:37):
In front, his sores.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
Corill Caprizov down the right side, match Sugerello crashes the net,
flips in the two on one. They'll finish off the
play of the Crack and fall three to two and overtime. However,
the point streak lives on ten games, eight zero and
two in their last ten. Heading on a big five
(16:01):
game road trip.
Speaker 7 (16:02):
And as we get deeper into the season, those points
certainly matter, and they did so here as far as
the Kraken in their own division. Two goals in period
three enough to force overtime, but the Wild eventually the
last to capitalize here with plenty of open ice and
they get the right guys on there to do it. Unfortunately,
on the Kraken side, it was Matt and zucarello fifth
goal of the year, ending in a two zero nine
(16:24):
Carilla caprisa brock Faber as well with the assist on
the play three to your final for the Wild over
the Kraken as this season, here the Kraken in overtime,
falling to five and four. In the extra session final
shots on net thirty four to twenty eight in favor
of Minnesota. The Kraken go one of three on the
(16:44):
power play and allow just one man advantage to the
Wild as well, they come up empty. That was huge
given the fact that the Wild had a lot of
their top stars here playing are their full their full
sled of stars playing here for this evening and the
winning net going to yespervollstep twenty six saves on twenty
eight shots overtime loss to Philip Grubauer, who looked great
(17:05):
in net down the other way. Thirty one saves on
thirty four shots. Volstet now is twelve to two and four,
Grubauer's record moving to eight three and two on the season.
Time now for the cors Light chillis moments of the game.

Definisi Butt Minnesota had a different say in the matter.
Speaker 13 (17:42):
Boldi hands it off.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
The hues now favor Settle shoot scores.
Speaker 3 (17:49):
Wild at all the time in the world to get
that shot off, Hughes Boldi and Faber.
Speaker 1 (17:57):
It was the latter who gave the while the two
nothing lead.
Speaker 7 (18:01):
Four oh six to play in the first and one
of those plays where you can't give top players like
that enough time in space. But yet two things can
be true. The Cracking had a little bit of a
complaint as far as Vince Dunn stick being held as well,
and that opened up space eventually to work the puck
three to broad Faber, and that could have been potentially
a goal that made the whole bit too deep to
(18:23):
climb out of with the cracking down two nothing end
of one period, but they had more fight in them
and when you look back here a period three, it
was a moment like this that really helped set the stage.
Speaker 1 (18:33):
So Grease saw this cut, took the runoff back end,
exciting same by Philip Grove.
Speaker 3 (18:39):
Hour out of the Goalcrease slides through, makes the same
wilds save the.
Speaker 1 (18:44):
Puck was Philip Grooveauer keeps this a one goal.
Speaker 7 (18:48):
Game, one of twelve saves he made in that third period,
also one shift after Adam Larson and the Krack and
surviving a broken stick on Larson's side as well, and
with Quinn Hughes on the ice and again and that
helped light the fuse for a comeback for the Kranken,
who eventually had two goals as well in that third period.
Time now for the big win brought to you by

Speaker 19 (24:10):
Attitude like in the dressing room after game? I, I mean,
you lost, but you came back against a pretty formidable team.
Speaker 5 (24:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 20 (24:18):
I mean I thought it was a good game by
both sides. Like tight game goes over time, you know,
comes down to uh, you know, we get three on two,
they make a nice play and they go in to
two on one score. So it was a good game
all the way through. I thought we played well and
they played well.
Speaker 19 (24:32):
What was the key to probably getting some goals on
these guys after they did pretty good try to shut
you down the first half.
Speaker 20 (24:38):
Yeah, I think we just got faster, We got more
pressure on their you know, breakouts, their neutral zone, and
then when we got Poks back.
Speaker 4 (24:46):
We went fast.
Speaker 20 (24:47):
We you know, threw it up three high, got in
behind them, and we started to get a little bit
more you know, first touches on parks, offensive rushes, chances
like that.
Speaker 21 (24:57):
It's the first time you've seen them since Quinn's kind
of joined their group. How much does he change what they're.
Speaker 5 (25:01):
Able to do with the guys that they've already kind
of had there.
Speaker 20 (25:05):
Yeah, I mean he's an extremely good player. You know,
he's so so shifty, so fast, so smart. You know,
he's not he's a force back there. So you know,
he made it tough on our wingers tonight and our
you know, Austin and D zone and you know, I
thought we did a soul a job trying to contain
him out there at the blue line, try to not
(25:25):
let him walk down the slot, try to not let
him walk around the net. But yeah, he's a super
skilled player, and you know, he's really really good.
Speaker 22 (25:34):
He has ended up with the two power plays out there,
and you see, like built some momentum with the first one,
but didn't convert. I mean it feels like kind of
make or break there on the second one.
Speaker 20 (25:42):
Right, Yeah, Yeah, we knew we needed one there. You know,
we had some good looks and chances the first one,
and then we were able to get the second one
just off a you know shot rebound, and you know
that's that's how goals go go in from the inside.
You know they're not always pretty passing, power play goals.
You know a lot of them are just tipsters, traffic,
att net shots, rebound, things like that.

him out. Because I don't know a man that has

well done sir tonight on Priday Night, So excellent job
by him because that was a quite a suit for sure.
Speaker 7 (36:22):
If anybody has the photo, please share at X and
Twitter and tag us. I know that someone had a
screenshot from TV or inside the building here. But this evening,
the Kracking move their record to eight to oh and two.
Speaker 4 (36:36):
And usually.
Speaker 7 (36:39):
I think you talk to a lot of the top
end teams and when they take an OT loss, you
get the loser point. You don't get a lot of
sense of satisfaction. And I don't want to put a
game like this anders into a bucket like this, but
when you consider the Kraken for the steps that they
have been taking over the last month to not just
put them sells in the playoff mix, not just to
(37:02):
contend for first place in the Pacific Division, but also
end of the conversation that they're gonna be serious about
this playoff mix, this was the next big test. And
I have to ask again at one point, maybe I
would say a year ago, two years ago, did you
see a comeback like this coming against a team that
(37:22):
was this good in Minnesota. I don't know if you
can but yet they found a way down to nothing
with several reasons why they were able to at least
get this one into overtime. And from what we have
said in the standings, points matter, wins, ot losses, shootout losses,
they matter, and that's what helps them out here for
this evening.
Speaker 6 (37:40):
Yeah, not all overtime losses are created equal, right. It
depends on your opponent, It depends on you know what
position you are in in the season. It depends on
you know how the game goes. You start down to zero,
and not by playing poorly. Just a couple of good
chances by Minnesota, and they're a top team that is
a bona fide Stanley Cup contender in my home estimation. Yeah,
(38:00):
that Minnesota is there, they are. The fact that you
went head to head with them, this felt like a
heavyweight battle tonight. I got the feeling that we're gonna
see a playoff series between these two teams. I'm just
I don't know why, but I get I get a
feeling that we're gonna see a playoff series between these
two teams come April. So it's one of those things
where you start off to zero, you're in a vacuum
(38:24):
you're happy with the point, You're happy with the overtime loss.
But man, I just feel like this place was about
ready to explode if you were to get the winner
late in that third period or somehow find a way
to do it in overtime or the shootouts. So it
feels like a little bit of a letdown. But like
I said, if you look at it in a vacuum,
I feel like we would have all taken one point
(38:45):
going into tonight.
Speaker 7 (38:46):
I was about roughly ten feet away here from this
set at the very top of section twenty, watching overtime unfold.
And now, I mean, I'll be honest with you here,
I mean, you really can't give open ice to players
like Carill Caprisa. But that's what three on three yields,
and folks, again, in the playoffs, please remember overtime is
not played at three on three. It is a completely
different ballgame, which is why I think more fair judgment
(39:08):
lies within period one, period two, period three. Yet I
think you for this evening, the biggest test was could
you survive the Quinn Hughes experience. Ladies and gentlemen, I
pause for dramatic effect. Time on ice for Quinn Hughes
thirty minutes since thirty O my god. I mean, if
(39:31):
you look at his last three games, that is unbelievable.
That's not even abnormal for him, that is unbelievable.
Speaker 4 (39:36):
One assists only.
Speaker 7 (39:37):
Yeah, I mean, and I say this from the fact
of when this game is tied, John Hines is going
to one well, and that's the Quinn Hughes well, over
and over and over. Average shift length was one minute
and fifteen seconds. But yet a big reason why the
Kraken got to overtime their role players playing defensively, Jake
(40:00):
Amlans big breakup, Kale Flory big breakup, and how they
were able to handle Quinn Hughes and prevent extended O
zone time made such a big difference here.
Speaker 6 (40:10):
Yeah, and I feel like during the second half of
the games, I think Minnesota had their way through the
first period and a half or so of this game
and they were getting ozone time crack and We're having
trouble kind of getting anything on net. But what really
kind of changed is when you play against those high
skill teams, and Minnesota is a really good balance of
the one of those teams that has a lot of
skill up top, but they're also very structured on the
(40:31):
back end and have really good goaltending as well, so
it's tough to find any way to attack them. But
when you play against those types of teams, sometimes the
best defense is just going straight at him, yeah, and
getting your own offense right. And I feel like the
Kraken did that much more in the second half of
the second period and than most of the third period
as well, when they started to kind of get their game,
they got those back to back power play opportunities created
(40:53):
some chances of their own. Berkeley Catton draws both of
those penalties, I might add he does an excellent job
of that, and they end up sc going to tie
the game once again. Special teams comes up huge.
Speaker 7 (41:02):
I think Berkeley Catton and his eyes time is also
entering the conversation here with this, Anders and you and
I were talking about this backup in the press box,
and you know, for the two goals he's scored, I
think it validated the previous night as far as how
much he is working to help generate offense now. And
I saw Lane Lambert go back to the well over
and over. But again I think the question bears how
(41:24):
much more ice time can you give him and do
you give him enough here? Certainly in the right spots.
Speaker 6 (41:29):
Well, yeah, and there can be a couple questions I there. Obviously,
I'm a big Berkeley Caton fan. I want him to
have more minutes on the ice. I want him to
have more of an effect on the game. And it's
not just the minutes though, It's about who he's playing with,
right it's the plays that you're making, the past that
you're making, if that's going to Jordan Evely or Jared
McCann or Maddy Benier's however you want to slice and
(41:51):
dice it, it feels like if he's playing with those, you know,
upper echelon players on this roster, he'll be getting a
lot more results than he's getting right now because he's
making the right place. But I will say he started
the overtime period. That tells me that they have confidence
in him in these situations.
Speaker 7 (42:06):
And that certainly tells a lot I think when you're
getting key ice time from Lane Lambert, and Lane Lambert
told us again, if you want to play in high
leverage situations, you have to be trustworthy all areas of
the ice, beginning on defense. I think it says a lot.
I even thinking back to you know, when Caylee Floury
was also playing a lot in the third period he
was Mattion up Beginn's career caprice, sobidly that says a lot.
(42:28):
That's a big help with Brandon Montur back out. And
by the way, al Koniski he thought what I was thinking.
It would have been a lot of fun to see
what Montour could have done here in a game like this.
This is a game where that they really missed him.
Speaker 6 (42:39):
Yeah, and like it's weird to think about that you've
gone on this run without Brandon Montour and you can
easily just point to the next step as in, oh,
you know, he's not that important because they've gone on
this run without him. He might he must not be
like as big of a deal. I completely rebut that.
I think it's so much more about what they've done
(43:02):
in terms of their structure rather than the players that
have been available. And I think I totally agree with
Alan that if Brandon Montor is playing in a game
like this, it does make a massive difference because that's
there in a way version of Quinn Hughes right, We
saw how much effect Quinn Hughes can have on the
game tonight, I think montor maybe not to that same level,
but has the same effect on a Seattle cracking team.
Speaker 7 (43:23):
Three to two Kraken fall two Minnesota in overtime. So
again they're eight zho to two now in ten games,
and the ot point gets them to within two points
of first place in the Pacific Division. Now, this big
test awaits coming up for five games on the road
at Carolina, the Rangers, the Devils, the Bruins, and ending
up against Utah before coming back home once again, we
(43:45):
got a lot more to get to here again four
nine four five one on the kjir text line, and
you tell us scale of one to ten, how'd you
like the Kraken and their game for this evening four
nine four or five one. We're gonna also hear from
head coach Lane Lambert in a little bit as well,
but let's jump right into the text line and the
reaction here from this UH five zho three is saying
love to see the comeback and every point counts right
(44:06):
now in this division. UH two five three saying proud
of the guys are coming back, but over time, not
good execution and it was maybe some of the worst
that they had seen maybe in a long time. That
from the two five, three, and I think, uh, when
you get to two parts of this here, the Kraken
played so structured, so disciplined f five on three, But
(44:27):
how much did you really I think believe that they
were kind of I don't want to use the words
trying too hard, but really spinning their wheels, trying to
put this game to bed in three on three over time.
Speaker 6 (44:37):
Yeah, I don't know. It's hard to really tell what's
going through a lot of the players head sometimes that
you can all you can only just speculate and guess.
But when you a lose the opening face off, I
mean that puts you behind the eight ball right away,
because Minnesota then gets an extended shift in their O
zone and then you end up kind of, uh, can
you survive?
Speaker 7 (44:57):
Three? A looks there from Quinn Hughes, Caprice hop Bold,
et cetera.
Speaker 6 (45:00):
You weather the storm, you get it out. You need
to make a change, you know. Matty Venier scores the
tying goal tonight, but unfortunately he's in a kind of
a one on one situation with his teammates making a change,
and one of the Minnesota players as well. You want
to see him maybe peel back and like, okay, we
need to keep possession for a little bit now. Instead
of making the one on one play to go to goal,
(45:21):
he loses it and then you're in another extended D
zone shift. So it's just those little things. I think.
Obviously you're happy to get the point from where you
were at the beginning of this game, but again, it
just feels like somewhat of a missed opportunity for me
because I feel like this building was about to explode
if they were to get it done in overtime.
Speaker 7 (45:39):
Good food for thought here, by the way, from the
four to two five, going to overtime with one of
the best teams in the NHL and keeping the points
treat going is pretty good. A little concerning the Krack
and have him beaten the wild last four matchups and
with a potential playoff series with the wildest Spring the
boys that got to step it up that from the
four to two five, how'd you look at this one
(45:59):
maybe in a a seven game scope.
Speaker 6 (46:01):
I think it's a tough matchup for the Krack. And
I'm gonna be completely honest, and you and I were
kind of talking about this, you know, in the heights
of the press box here at CPA. It's weird because
the teams that kind of grind it out a little bit,
like Minnesota, which is kind of a mirroring of Seattle's
play style. I feel like those are the teams at
Seattle kind of struggles against versus the high octane Colorados
(46:24):
of the world. Seattle, for whatever reason, matches up better
against those teams than a lot of other teams in
the league. So it's a tough matchup for Seattle. But
I will say tonight, if it proved anything, it proved
that Seattle can play with that type of team. And
Minnesota is as balanced as we just talked about as
it comes. They have great goaltending, they're great from the
back end, they have good structure, and they have the
(46:47):
offensive firepower to get it done. So you battle them
back from two zero down, you get your chances, and
I think the crack them with a better team in
the second half of this game. It just and the
execution overtime is a great point because I agree with
that point.
Speaker 7 (47:00):
I don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves
because it is again only January eighth.
Speaker 4 (47:04):
That is not.
Speaker 7 (47:05):
April eighth, But who would you rather have in a
seven game playoff series? The thirty two to four and
seven Avalanche are the twenty two, sixteen and six Edmonton Oilers.
Speaker 6 (47:16):
Anders Oh, I think right now, if you're looking at
it just from a this season perspective, you have to
say you'd rather face Edmonton. But I will say I
still believe for whatever reason, Edmonton has Seattle's number every
time that they end up facing them each other in
a big matchup. Connor McDavid Leon.
Speaker 4 (47:37):
As good matchups and bad matchup right now, right.
Speaker 6 (47:40):
And even though Colorado has been the overwhelming best team
in the NHL this season, I feel like Seattle and
we saw that right before we started this streak that
we're on now. Colorado came to CPA and battled to
a close win for Colorado in that instance. But it
just feels like Seattle can match up better with Colorado
than a lot of other teams can in the NHL.
(48:01):
So Mate, I can see it going both ways. But
Edmonton is not as good as they have been in
years past. But Seattle, I think can match up with
anyone in Lane. Lambert I think believes that as well.
Speaker 7 (48:11):
We're gonna hear from him in a little bit by
the way here as a crack and fall three to
two and overtime to the Minnesota Wild. I do want
to get to Philip Grubauer here before the break tonight,
turning in thirty one saves on thirty four shots, and
when you look at it, I just think from like
a baseline scope of the kind of shots he let in.
(48:32):
They were long distance, but again not all shots are
created equal, and you have to look I think this
in context. First off, can the goalie see the puck?
I would argue on both he did not. Yeah, the
first one was a bit of a lighter layer, but
again you're you know, you're putting your own defense in
front of the puck, Hartman, let's a go. Players are
usually trained to use screens like that to shoot and
(48:54):
get past goalies. That's is basically, you know, just how
swab the game this year at this point to beat
top end goalton because they're a lot more athletic. But
then the second one, it's a multi layered screen. I
saw a great TV angle love this. He almost had
no chance. And then you have also the fact that
Done had a stickheld as well on that.
Speaker 6 (49:12):
Play, Yeah, and also you look at from the Minnesota perspective,
Bold he does an excellent job of putting his back
to goal so you can't see which way he's gonna go.
Quinn Hughes comes across, takes the puck away from him
and passes it over to brock Favor, who just hits
a bomb. It's something you don't expect your goaltender to
have an answer for, especially when you have the layered
screen that you were just talking about. So honestly, Grubauer
(49:33):
right now is the best goaltender on Seattle, and you
could argue as one of the best goaltenders in the
league for yes, playing right absolutely and the numbers up,
so it's awesome to see him bounce back. This is
exactly what Seattle needs to happen if they're going to
be in this playoff run for an extended period of time.
They need to have both goaltenders performing at the level
that they are right now, and you're actually seeing Minnesota
(49:53):
is a great example of that. The best teams in
the NHL have two goaltenders. It's more often then not.
Colorado is one of them, with Wedgewood and Blackwood. Minnesota
now with a Wallstatt and Gustafson as well, So you're
seeing a kind of move away from the heavy minutes
(50:16):
almost every game. Extend back to Back's goaltending philosophy. And
the best teams right now have two really good goaltenders,
and I think Seattle is one of them.
Speaker 7 (50:24):
And you can't just rely on one guy here and
risk running him into the ground.
Speaker 4 (50:27):
And this is kind of.
Speaker 7 (50:28):
The luxury you have with Grubauer playing this well for
the whole scope of the season, the Cord also playing
this well, and Lane Lambert going into the the ap
platoon system here to try to generate as much points
as he can out of this system. That's gonna also
really come into play this next week when you go
to Carolina, New York, New Jersey, Boston. Then also a
(50:49):
long plane ride a week from tomorrow from Boston all
the way to Utah as well, when the Kraken end
that road trip. All right, we're gonna come back in
a bit and here more with head coach Lane Lambert.
The Kraken fire back down two nothing, forcing overtime, but
Matt and Sucarello had the game winning goal of two
nine in wild three, cracking two your final score in
o t This is Talking Kracking on ninety three to
(51:11):
three kJ RFM.
Speaker 2 (51:13):
If you've got to come in about tonight's cracking game,
make sure we hear about it.
Speaker 13 (51:18):
Just text us at four nine four five one.
Speaker 2 (51:21):
Now back to Tucking Kracking with Mike Benton on Sports
Radio ninety three point three kJ r FM four.
Speaker 7 (51:28):
Two five, saying, grit got a point here in this one.
Watching Quinn Hughes at work was a pleasure for that
was seemed like half the game. He was on the
ice with a crack and also working so hard to
hold their own against the top offense. That from Jeff
in the four to two five. Also reaction here at
X and Twitter at the handle of the Neil Dogg
of the crack and keep playing like this, There's gonna
be a dangerous team. Philip Grubauer has been awesome again
(51:52):
That from X as well. Crack and Fall though three
to two in overtime to Minnesota, the Cracking getting out
of a two nighting hole on goals from Ryan Hartman
and Brock Faber back in the first period for the
Wild and the Crack, and then in the period three
Adam Larson, Matty Banier is helping lead the charge before
Zugarello ending it in overtime to nine in Mike Benton
(52:14):
andrews Hurst with you back downstairs, we go now for
more reaction with crackenhead coach Laane Lambert Lane.
Speaker 19 (52:21):
What did you guys do from about the halfway point
of the game on, because they seem to have you
pretty bottled up defensively the first the first period and
a half or so, so.
Speaker 29 (52:30):
We started taking care of the puck more, we started
attacking more. I thought the start of the game was
poor and I didn't lick her into the game either,
so we have to be ready to go. That wasn't
wasn't good enough to start and you have to play
sixty minutes.
Speaker 19 (52:49):
What did you think, you know along that van, What
did you think of the tempo of the game. I mean,
it's pretty low scoring, but it seemed to have a
lot of the energy of a higher scoring game.
Speaker 29 (52:58):
Just oh yeah, no, it was. It was contested. There's
no question we knew it would be.
Speaker 6 (53:06):
You know.
Speaker 29 (53:06):
I thought both goaltenders played well. We certainly had our opportunities,
they had their opportunities, you know. So it was a
it was a pretty good hockey game overall. You know,
if you're up in the stands watching it, I don't
know if I loved it overall standing behind the bench
watching it.
Speaker 22 (53:27):
Coach, Why did you make the overtime period there? It
seemed like I guess you said the way you finished
the game. Do you mean in regulation there encoding overtime?
Speaker 29 (53:34):
Overtime?
Speaker 19 (53:35):
Okay?
Speaker 22 (53:35):
It seemed like pock possession is just harder to come
by in this one for some reason. What did you
kind of attribute that to?
Speaker 29 (53:42):
Well, you know, we started off with a lost face off,
couldn't get the puck back. They've got some dynamic players
over there, there's no question about it, So you know,
they had a couple of really good opportunities. I thought
our goaltender was excellent. And then what we've been really
good at this year and overtime is possessing the puck
and making plays when we get it, and we weren't.
(54:04):
We weren't good at that tonight. We gave it back
to them. We had an opportunity to catch them tired
and we were changing so that we could have had
that puck on our stick a long time, and we
tried a one on one move lost the puck and
you know, and then we didn't execute on a two
on one, So that overtime was not one of our
(54:28):
better ones, that's for sure.
Speaker 22 (54:30):
You said recently that when when teams have two and
three gold deficits in this league, a lot of times
they don't hold back, right, they really come at you.
Did you sense that a little bit from your team
tonight in the third period when they got down to zero.
Speaker 29 (54:40):
I thought we started to really play with about seven
or eight minutes left in the second period, where we
you know, we started to create some zone time, did
a really good job there, and I thought it carried
over to the third. Give our guys credit. They you know,
they did a great job to come back. It's those
are a huge, huge, huge point for us, you know.
(55:02):
But again the disappointment for me is that the game
started slow for us and we can't do that.
Speaker 27 (55:12):
Leane, When you talked about the team creating zone time
the seven, you know, last seventy minutes of the period,
was that a matter of you know, winning the offensive
zone face offs?
Speaker 4 (55:20):
More so, was there anything else.
Speaker 29 (55:21):
That kind of went into that you well, there was
a couple of different reasons for it. Yeah, some of
them resulted off of face offs and things like that.
But our four check, our four check and our energy
level picked up. And again we have to have that
right from the very beginning.
Speaker 21 (55:39):
The back to back power play chances there and the
third it looked like you kind of built some momentum
kind of through the first one to wear this one
in the second one game you kind of were able
to capitalize on. What'd you like about the sequence that
you guys put together to find.
Speaker 29 (55:50):
That that time. I loved our power play tonight. I
think we had nine scoring chances in our power play.
Mattivenier's had a point blank slap shot from the slot
in the first period. Our power play came through for
us tonight and.
Speaker 7 (56:02):
Kind of going back to Darren all right that reaction
from Krackenead coach Lane Lambert. Two takeaways I have from
this one. First off, Anders players on ice to begin overtime,
Chandler Stevenson, Berkeley Catton, and Vince Dunn. And then you
get Maddy Benier's on there and then Ryker Evans on
there as well. Minnesota generating a ton as far as
(56:24):
scoring chances, shot attempts as well. I'm really curious how
they respond next game after what we just heard.
Speaker 6 (56:32):
Yeah, and it's it's it's unfortunate because you know you
had that the we talked about. The lost face off
is tough when you have an elite skater, especially on
the blue line like you are going against with Quinn Hughes,
the top three at worst defenseman in the league, especially
looking at how much he creates on the offensive end.
(56:54):
Three on three, open ice is where he thrives. And
he's so good at keeping the puck. He's creating opportunities.
And when you're in that long of a defensive shift
while giving up a couple of great a's that Philip
grubauerd did awesome against, you have to keep possession when
you get it back, and especially when your guys are
(57:15):
changing and stuff like that. It's in overtime it can
be so give and take. You see this with so
often with guys now where they don't even like dump
it in. They don't even take a mild opportunity if
they see one. They peel back, wait for all three
of their guys to be ready and wait for a
big opportunity to come. So I expect them to be
much better at that because as Lane Lambert mentioned they
(57:37):
have been really good at that this year. It's just
today they didn't execute in the same way that they
have all.
Speaker 7 (57:41):
Right, before we duck out of here, we have to
also get props the power play, and Lane Lambert did so.
Maddy Beniers had the game time goal nine oh seven,
and he also brought up that great look you have
that slap shot back in period one. But folks, again
I really encourage you to go back and listen here
to the pregame show Lane Lambert's interview with us as well,
and he brought up Chris Taylor and the power playoff
(58:02):
the bat, where again the steps that they have taken
there is more fluidity and you're allowing skilled players to
use their instincts creatively to make plays and we're seeing
that really come to fruition now with production on this team.
Speaker 6 (58:17):
Yeah, they just have so much more you know, creativity
freedom than I've seen them the last couple of years.
Like honestly, and we've talked about it all year and
people will mention that this team doesn't have maybe the
top end talent of a lot of the best teams
in the NHL. But the way you combat that is
by taking advantage of a power plays of killing penalties
(58:39):
when you get that chance, being really good in special
teams can make up for maybe a lack of domination
quote unquote in five on five play, and I think
they're doing a great job of that right now.
Speaker 7 (58:50):
Gonna be a fun one coming up here to begin
the road trip at Carolina, right into the deep end.
Speaker 4 (58:54):
You're of the Eastern Conference teams.
Speaker 6 (58:55):
Oh man, it's these road trips are always fine because
it's kind of like you don't get to see these
guys very much. I'm excited to how they stack up
against some of the best teams in the league.
Speaker 7 (59:03):
First of two matchups here for the Kraken and Hurricanes
to open the road trip this Saturday again four pm.
Pot drop. Hope that you can join us. It's all
the time we have again once again, thank you for
joining us and your reaction. Andrews appreciate you once again,
my friend. Fantastic work and we'll catch you down the
road once again.
Speaker 6 (59:20):
Yeah, Mike, thanks for having me on. Really appreciate it.
Speaker 7 (59:23):
All right again her thanks to Travis Smoger, technical director,
also Terry Ryan, her on site engineer.
Speaker 4 (59:28):
And we'll do it for here for andrews Hurst and
your reaction.
Speaker 7 (59:31):
