Speaker 1 (00:00):
Back here with a crack and head coach Lane Lambert
the Crack and getting set with the Philadelphia Flyers in
their first of two matchups here for the season. So far,
through five games, what have you seen from this team
as far as their commitment and the application here to
the principles that you want to see physically and also
Bentley as well.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Yeah, I think they've done a great job up until
this point for sure. You know, there's certain categories defensively
in the league that you know we're either at the
top of or near the top of. The commitment level
has been outstanding, you know, commitment to play a certain way,
commitment to you know, sacrifice block shots, whatever it might be.
(00:36):
So they've done a really good job so far. And again,
like you said, it's five games in, we've got a
long way to go. But certainly give the guys credit.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
Toronto is no slash and even with no much marter,
they still have plenty of weapons and Austin Matthews, William
Niland or John Tavares so to be able to handle
that kind of a challenge. What did it say about
how those guys were able to fare physically for a
game like that?
Speaker 2 (00:57):
Yeah, well, you know, I mean, clearly, we've feel like
as a group, we feel confident in our structure. You know,
I've said it's not always going to be perfect, but
certainly you know when it isn't, We've had some big
efforts and big individual efforts to you know, eat some
(01:18):
bucks and do whatever, and you know, and and our
goaltending has been pretty good. So you know, it's it's
it's a game where you you go into the game
and as long as you play the way you want
to play, you give yourself a chance to win.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
Where do you give these guys the most credit for
being able to handle the stretch that they're going through
with next man up mentality, bodies and bodies app are
still finding a way to be effective shift after shift.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Well that's the way we have to be. You know,
we've had a rash of injuries and training camp for
starters and now we're under the same same gamut here
as we start the regular season with you know, five
regulars out right now. But you know, it is what
it is. It's a it's a next man up men
and everybody within the organization, you know, starting day one
(02:04):
a training camp has been on the same page and
is understanding what it is we need to do, so
you know, there's no surprises in terms of how we
want to play. And you know, guys have come in
and done a good job of of, you know, maintaining
that so far.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
That next man app will be Berkeley Catton making his
NHL debut here for this evening. And you mentioned before
a big key for players is to play loose, enjoy
the moment. But how do you balance the info they
are trying to feed a guy but not making sure
that he's on overload to get ready here for a
game like this.
Speaker 2 (02:36):
Ah, you know what I mean. At the end of
the day, it's up to him to balance that. You know,
we have expectations, we have a standard that we play with.
Everybody's you know, has to play by that standard. The
more you understand that standard and those expectations, the better
off you're going to be. So uh, he's doing a
good job of you know, working, working, in practice, getting
(02:58):
himself prepared. I think it's been fantastic that he has
in practice been a penalty killer because it gives him
a little bitter utter understanding of the defensive side of
the game as well. We know he can create. We
want him to create, and I'm looking forward to seeing him.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
Play based in the Philadelphia Flyers. Finally here a team
that can certainly skate. How much more is this a
legs game versus say, a brain's going to be able
to handle what they bring.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
It's both, it's definitely both. Yeah, no, but it'll be
a fast game. We feel like we're a fast team,
so you know, we're looking forward to it. Thank you
very much, Thank you.
