Speaker 1 (00:01):
Thanks Mike here with Lane Lambert Lane. Following a four
nothing lost to Edmonton back on Saturday, you get the
same team here again tonight. What's the process of going
through that game? Is it one of those things where
you flush it? Do you look back and say, we
can take one or two things away from it? Do
you do a deep dive into Saturday's game? What's the
process of moving on from that one and preparing for
(00:23):
the oilers for a second time in a row.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Yeah, that's a good question. You do a deep dive,
and you don't overthink it because there's certain situations that
if you just, you know, win a one on one battle,
then you know, A doesn't need to B to C
to D and all of a sudden you're in your
zone for seven and a half minutes in the game.
You know, So you take a little bit of consideration
(00:46):
of that, but you do you do a deep dive.
There's certain adjustments that I think we can make, you know,
and do a better job on some of the things
that we were supposed to do good. We didn't, so
we just have to be better.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
Today. Let me talk talk a lot about special teams,
the power play of the PK recently when you're seeing
struggles on those units, What are the things that you
can do to try and foster chemistry to have more success.
Is it as simple as just more practice time trying
to force that proverbial square peg into the round hole
(01:19):
or is there more that you can you can do
and you want to see from this group?
Speaker 2 (01:23):
Well, look at I think that you know, there's no
question the practice time is going to help out. There's
no question that film is going to help out. But
it's also a matter of our guys executing what, you know,
what needs to be executed. It's not like we haven't
been you know, schooled in certain situations. You know, from
(01:44):
a penalty killing standpoint, when things get chaotic, you have
to have the wherewithal to not try and rush over
and do somebody else's job, you know, And part of
that comes a little bit with experience, and part of
that is you know, working on it in practice as
well and doing repetitions, so that part of it we
need to get better at. There's no question about it.
(02:06):
And you know, from a power place townpoint, our power
play has been good. It's one of some hockey games
I think for us, it's a matter of looking back,
what were we doing then? What are we doing now?
And to be honest with you, you know, we had
twelve shots on goal the other day and you know,
I know it didn't go in, but I would be
a lot more worried if we had, you know, five
(02:27):
or six power plays and we didn't get any shots
on goal. And that's happened in the past of teams
as well, But that hasn't happened or it's not happening here.
So you just got to stick with it.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
How do you stem the oh lord, here we go
again from coming into the bench when you're going on
the power play or when your facing the PK.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
Well, you just have to man up. You know, it's
professional hockey. It's a national hockey league. It's the best
league in the world. And the players in the in
the league are the best players in the world. And
nothing's easy. If it was easy, everybody be doing it.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
And it's not.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
And so you have to, you know, like I said,
you have to man up and go out there with confidence.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
You've come off of a pretty good lull in the schedule,
three games essentially in the last twelve ish days. A
lot of times, a lot of time to work in
practice and work on things you want to work on.
But now you begin a stretch of eleven games and
twenty one days, what are going to be some of
the big lessons you've taken from this time off and
what are those goals moving forward through this now pretty
(03:33):
chaotic chunk of the schedule.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
Yeah, well we've got you know, we've had a chance
to sort of reset a little bit and work on
some things that we feel like we needed to work on,
you know, continue to grow and build our identity, you know,
and we know this this stretch coming up is extremely difficult.
We have very good hockey teams obviously that we're playing against,
(04:00):
you know, So for us, it's just take it one
game at a time and stay focused. You know, it's
the time of the year where Christmas is coming, your
families are in There's all kinds of distractions out there,
and you have to keep away from the distractions and
just pay attention to your job. And you know, once
December twenty fourth comes, let's see where we are.
Speaker 1 (04:20):
So with the Amazon oilers coming now for a second
game in a row, do you feel that this gives
you in particular an advantage knowing what you need to
improve on from game one on Saturday to.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
Now, Well, I think, you know, I think if you
can make some adjustments and their positive adjustments, which we
feel like we can, you know, it helps us certainly,
you know. But I also think that we have to
execute things that we already knew going into the first game,
or we have to execute those things better, because you know,
I don't think we executed those things well enough against
(04:53):
this hockey team. And I'm looking forward to the game tonight.
