Speaker 1 (00:00):
This low has flown off Seattle.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Welcome to Seattle, Kraken Hockey on the Global Credit Union
Kraken Audio Network. Brought to you by Coor's Life, Your
Western Washington, Toyota de Lyrics, Veacon Plumbing, Heating and Mechanical,
Virginia Mason, Franciscan Hill, Muckleshute Casino Resort, and by Luna
and Simetra.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
It was a milestone night for the cracket that ended
up falling a bit short last night in Philly at
Seattle couldn't find their footing in their first regulation boss
of the season.

Speaker 4 (00:34):
It was the first NHL game for Purpley Caton and
he did not disappoint, notching an assists in a five
to two loss to the Flyers. Tonight, Seattle wraps up
their first back to back of the season in our
Nation's Capital to take on a Capitol's team that is
coming off of President's Trophy last season and has a
superstar who was closing in on yet another major milestone.

(00:57):
Good evening, Ladies and gentlemen, welcome inside of Capitol On
Arena here in Washington, DC alongside Alconisky, I have ever
Fitsuh you're listening to Seattle Crack and Hockey on the
Global Credit Union craig An Audio Network. This is your
plea Aamstow served up by Frost Brew Course Light Choose.

Speaker 1 (01:13):
Chill, Al, I missed you, buddy.

Speaker 4 (01:15):
Shout out Mike Benton for doing another splitting different job last.

Speaker 5 (01:20):
Night on the broadcast. Yes, he did a fantastic job
once again. And uh, you know what.

Speaker 4 (01:26):
We had two lasts Yeah, got some laughs talking some
life savers, got the stories out early last night. Five
to lost Seattle to the Philadelphia Flyers. Head coach Lane
Lambert was very pointed and blunt in his comments last night,
saying that we didn't have our best I know that
we can be better.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
And it was a first real bad game, if.

Speaker 4 (01:49):
You will, for Seattle on which they just couldn't find
their footing and get back to that style of play
they watch.

Speaker 5 (01:55):
Yeah, it would have been easy to go out of the
locker room or into the locker room at the end
of that game and talk about out the number of
guys that are out of the lineup Cocko Gaudrou Recor Evans,
Jared McCann, Brennan Montour on personal leave and say, you know,
our team was hampered and that's why we were able
to pull it out. But that doesn't stop you from
having the effort. And I think that's what he was

(02:15):
pointing out, was the effort wasn't there well.

Speaker 4 (02:17):
And you mentioned the injuries too, the Seattle Kraken losing
another player last night. Mason Marshmith quoted from Lane Lambert
to us earlier today is a game time decision. We'll
have to wait and see. The team is on the
ice right now for pregame skate. I do not see
number twenty seven in white down on the ice.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
Ben Myers was called up today.

Speaker 4 (02:39):
So for the Kraken who last year went zero to
eleven in game twos of back to backs, this is
their first of thirteen opportunities to write that ship. Different
coaching staff, different team from a year ago. In Lane
Lambert telling us earlier today, there are no excuses. You
have to go out and execute and play the right way,
and you have to come away with us win.

Speaker 5 (02:58):
Well, a few weeks ago, when this cracking team started
the season, you never would have looked at this point
and said you'd be three one and two going into
that second game of the back to back. But here
you are, and you're a little short headed in the
lineup as well, So it's definitely some adversity they're gonna
have to deal with tonight. But you know what, I
for the efforts there, I'll take that.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
On the other side of the red line.

Speaker 4 (03:16):
This Capital's team returning twenty players from last year's President's.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
Trophy winning team.

Speaker 4 (03:22):
They ultimately, though, fell in the second round of the
Carolina Hurricanes in five games. Alexandro Vetchkin sitting at eight
hundred and ninety eight goals, two goals away from nine hundred,
doesn't seem like this team is slowing down.

Speaker 1 (03:36):
And they've defied a lot.

Speaker 4 (03:38):
Of the quote unquote experts over the past couple of seasons.

Speaker 5 (03:41):
Yeah, and the last to close one to Vancouver the
internight and they're four to one to zero in their
last five. So red but as red hot as you
can get. So they're gonna be playing confident here tonight.
And look who's their leading points getter right now, Tom
Wilson with nine points. So there you go, big hitter,
big score.

Speaker 4 (03:57):
Matt Murray're gonna get his first start as a member
of the Seattle Kraken.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
His last regulation start was against.

Speaker 4 (04:03):
The Capitals Pack in January of last season. We loved
Mike Benton's effort so much last night that we decided
to pack him out of the plane. He's doing the
pregame show, intermissions and postgame live from Capitol Wan Arena.

Seattle Cracking Tonight take on the Washington Capitols and we
are thirty minutes away from puck drop against the Capitols.
So you know what else is also just thirty minutes away.
That would be Snoqualme Casino and Hotel, visit Seattle's closest
sports book and bet three ways on the Kraken. Take
a windows on side, Kiosk or my favorites this no

(07:23):
qualme Casino Mullbull app once again, Glad You're with us.
Mike Betton with you from inside the building, Hi a
top ringside with the Kraken coming in right now three
to one and two, eight points on the season so far,
this being game five of six on a lengthy ten
day trip, and the Capitol's coming in right now four
and two, also with eight points. This mark and the

(07:43):
finale of their four game home stand. So about this
saving the big story for the Kraken overall? Can they
get back on track here for the first time facing
a game after a regulation loss in the Lane Lambert era.
It's also their first time facing the second game of
a bat to back situation, where last year that record
hurt their cause zero to twelve in the second game

(08:05):
of those legs, and they will have thirteen of these
coming up here for the season. So it's a big
test here to see what they can do to get
their principals back in place for a situation like this.
This game marks one of two against the Capitols this season,
the krack and aiming for their second win and five
trice here in the district. It's also a reunion game,
another one here for head coach Lane Lambert, previously behind

(08:27):
the Capitol's bench, and they won a Stanley Cup with
him on that bench back in twenty seventeen eighteen, a
part of a four year stint that he had here
in Washington when he was a coach alongside Barry Trott.
So be facing a well oiled Capitals machine left by
head coach Spencer Carberry last season fifty one wins and
one hundred and eleven points when they got to the

(08:48):
second round of postseason play, and this year so far
not many signs of slowing down. They're showing out to
a four and two start, so the Cracking here in
game five of six on this trip. Highly competitive for
the season start, but at times mild to high chaos Defensively,
three of four games they have allowed four goals or more. Offensively,

(09:09):
though production is showing up. They've had thirteen goals so
far in four games on this trip. In total, they're
averaging three per game right now, Bow, good for the
middle of the pack of the NHL time for fourteen.
So the Krack and looking to gear it back up
in their favor here for this game, this evening about last.

Speaker 1 (09:28):
Night in Philadelphia.

Speaker 10 (09:28):
The Crack and looking to start out strong, and they
had a youngster who made his mark very early on.
Vaniers takes the back of our rims around of the
right bards for Catton, ont of the line for Flurry.

Speaker 1 (09:38):
His shot through traffic, face goal.

Speaker 10 (09:42):
Short and every set a screen front of damn with
r with twelve forty four to go in period one.
It came off the points shot from Kale Flurry and
set up by Berkeley Catton and the Kraken ounswell one
nothing lead, Yeah.

Speaker 5 (09:56):
Great work by Catton picking up puck off the wall.
They're getting it back to Kale Flurry at the point
who got a shot on it? It was about hip
Hi Everley gets a piece of it. One nothing kracking
and Berkeley Catton has his first point in the.

Speaker 10 (10:09):
NHL, significant point at that game for the Kraken. Unfortunately,
it was a high point in what was a disappointing
five to two lost the Philadelphia Flyers. But Berkeley Catton
didn't take long for him to get on the board,
first NHL point and just his second shift. Mom and
dad in the house where they had two layovers heading
into Philadelphia, so they were well traveled, but got into

(10:31):
the building in time to see their son pick up
his first career point. Yonnie Newman had a second period
power play goal and the kracking trying to tighten matters
back up after they gave up two goals to Owen
Tippett and of the Flyers overall who had four unanswered goals,
chasing Joey to Cord after two periods of play lashing back.
Here's Berkeley Catton after last night, recalling his first career

(10:53):
point in the NHL.

Speaker 11 (10:55):
You know that's I think my first touch of the
game wasn't assists. That was pretty cool, but yeah, I
think it didn't end up going off Ebbs right, so
you know, secondary assistant second shifts pretty cool.

Speaker 10 (11:07):
Plenty of times last night that Carton's game caught many
of I's the veterans, and one of them, Jaydon Schwartz,
who had this takeaway about Berkeley Catton saying that he
had command with the puck.

Speaker 12 (11:18):
Yeah, you could see his vision, his skill set, you know,
pretty pretty good with the puck. Cess very well and
just makes a lot of little little plays and you know,
highly skilled, so it was fun to see him out there.

Speaker 10 (11:31):
So Berkeley Canton earning plenty of time first game in
the lineup, which also means it's a return trip back
into the lineup for him this evening and looking like
he'll stay put with Manny Beneers and Jordan Everley. You're
cracking story lines. First off special teams here for this season.
The power play, it's been productive. They've had a goal
in five consecutive games last night won for six. But
the penalty kill they have taken a few lumps recently

(11:54):
and they have a lot of goal in four of
the last five games. So for the cracking, especially against
this flying Capitol's offense left by guests who Alexelvechkin and
then keep matters tightened back up on special teams this sevening.
Second storyline Chandler Stevenson in his play up front. He's
on a three game point streak in five games in
that span as well. That's now tie by the way

(12:15):
for that run, getting him to the krack and scoring
league tie with Vince Dunn and Jordan Eberley, all of
five points in six games. He's also a next Capital
played here for five seasons, return here for him. He's
got five points in eight games against his former team.
Third story line Matt Murray due to make his season
and his cracking debut. He was signed on July one,

(12:35):
and you're looking for a potentially cathartic season for him.
Last year mainly spent in the AHL with Toronto and
has him played north of thirty games in the NHL
in six years. But he had a great preseason two
games nine to two, zero say percentage, and this will
be his seventeen game all time against the Capitols, owning
an eight seven to one record. Philip Grubauer will back

(12:57):
him up tonight. Let's hear more from McCracken and Awards
who had hints up last night they're looking for today
as far as the bounce back, which involves the need
to get more jump.

Speaker 12 (13:07):
Yeah, it wasn't our best night, and a lot of
different areas, you know, puck play and defensively and puck management,
and you know, just speed and energy. You know, we're
just a little flat at times. And then they had,
you know, started playing our end a little bit more
and just making place because we weren't as tight together.

Speaker 10 (13:27):
Your injury update is three cracking players on IR. That's
Coppo Cocko, Riker Evans and Freddie Gudreau with Jereed mccannt. Today,
Ben Myers recalled from AHL Coachella Valley, Villy Odo Vin
and sent back down in this place as Evergett said
Mason march Mett game time decision, and we'll look to
see if Ben Myers is a guy to step in
in case Marchmint is not available. We'll come back in

Washington alex Obetchkin, the guy they call the Great eight,
nearing a milestone that call courtesy John Walton on WJFK
one zero six seven f M here in d C.
For a Capitols team that hasn't really skipped to beat
entering this season. Alex Olvechkin is the game's new all
time leading goal scorer, nearing another milestone after breaking Wayne

(17:05):
Gretzky's all time mark last year of eight to ninety
four for goal scoring under head coach Spencer Carberry, by
the way, who was playing college hockey when Ovechkin was
a rookie. He's now in their third year behind Washington's bench,
already ninety five wins in one hundred and seventy games
with two trips to the postseason. He's got them going
in a good direction. Last year fifty one wins and

(17:26):
they got to the second round. This year, it's a
four and two start and looking more of last year
as well as far as their habits their third best
and goals allowed a two per game typer fifth best
and shots allowed at twenty five as well per game.
Though they come off a bit of a clunker of
for to three loss to Vancouver which snapped the Capitol's
four game wins treak. Your Capitol story lines first up

(17:47):
again with Ovechkin closing on that milestone. He is two
goals shy of nine hundred in his NHL career, bit
of a slow start for him to this season, one
goal just in the first six games, but against the
Crack and he has been a handful five goals and
eleven points in eight lifetime meshups. The second story line
is handling a giant, and his name is Tom Wilson.

(18:09):
He's big, he's mean, he's physical, and some hits melee
in the questionable category. He has been suspended six times
in his NHL career, but last game he had a
big hit on Philipedal and the Canucks lost Hetal for
the game. No discipline after and he brings some offensive
touch here. Three game points streak with seven points in
that spin and against the Kraken, he's got point per

(18:31):
game numbers, five points in five games.

Speaker 1 (18:34):
That's it.

Speaker 10 (18:34):
More from Washington that coach Spencer Carberry is saying right
here on what he's looking for against the Crack in
this evening.

Speaker 17 (18:41):
We've got our hands full and it's important that our
start tonight will be huge with a team coming off
of back to back and coming into our building with
some travel there. So that'll be a key for us
as our start our first twenty minutes to us getting
off on the right foot, and then you know, we're
gonna have to work tonight to create They're a really
good defensive team. Their their metrics are early in the season,
but they're right up there with the top teams in

(19:02):
the league of defending.

Speaker 1 (19:03):
Really, really well.

Speaker 17 (19:04):
And so that's gonna mean that we're gonna have to
work extremely hard and can't get impatient or force the
issue offensively, because usually that's when it goes the other way.

good ish on this road trip. They had a bit
of a spill last night and Philadelphia five to two lost.

(21:59):
Berkeley cat No getting his first NHL point back in
the lineup today and more lineup news just coming through
to us. Mason Marshmith will be out tonight with a
lower body injury. It is now considered day to day.
So the hits keep on coming for the Seattle Cracking out.
It's gonna be a tough one here tonight to get
two points. But where there's a will, there's a way.

Speaker 1 (22:20):
How can they do that?

Speaker 5 (22:21):
Well, first of all, we got to talk about a
physical play. If we're going to talk about the Washington
Capitals set, that physical tone early. Washington Veterans love a
slower grinding style of hockey, so the crack you need
to hit first and often. Finishing checks and winning board
battles will disrupt the CAP's rhythm and tilt the ice
Seattle's way. Secondly, get depth scoring rolling. Seattle strength has

(22:42):
always been a balanced attack and not just one line
doing the heavy lifting. If the bottom six, along with
the blue line can ship in a goal or two,
it could be the difference maker in a low scoring game.
And then third, start fast, excuse me, start fast, finish
stronger on a shish In that statement, start fast, finished stronger.
The Capitals can be sluggish early, so jumping out with

(23:03):
early pressure and pace his key. But the Kraken also
need to close strong. No late lapses or letting Ov
lurk for that back door bomb. Tonight's recipe for the
cracking win is simple. Bring the muscle, share the scoring
and never let the throttle ease up. Make the Capitals
chase the game instead of controlling it. And don't give
Ov a sniff of that power play one timer he's

(23:25):
been firing since dial up internet was how you access
the internet. If Seattle can keep the energy high, the
hits heavy, and the goals coming from all corners. They'll
sail out of DC with two points and leave the
Caps looking like they just got caught in a rip
current wearing concrete skates.

Speaker 1 (23:40):
Hey, listen, that's awesome.

Speaker 4 (23:43):
That's hard to get out of them. I want to
add a fourth key starting on time. I mean, that's
gonna be big tonight. The Caps are coming off of
a close loss for them, a couple of nights ago
to Minnesota, to Vancouver rather and then now here at home.
The Kraken traveled last night. It was only an hour flight,
so it's not like they were going across country. But still,
if you're Seattle, you cannot afford to get down a

(24:04):
goal early in this game.

Speaker 5 (24:06):
Well, it's so difficult on the road because you've got
the fans obviously against you. One way to get them
quiet is to go out from the start and play
right from the start. It doesn't always have to be
her early goal, but get the momentum going your way.
Like I said, physical play, set the pace, set the tone,
and then the goals will come.

Speaker 4 (24:24):
Evans, gaudrou Coaco, McCann, Montour and Marchment all out for
tonight's game.

Speaker 1 (24:31):
Who has to step up tonight and be the hero
for Seattle. Well, it's gonna be that top line for Seattle.

Speaker 5 (24:37):
In fact, I think it's great that Berkeley Catton's going
to be back in this lineup tonight because he's so
comfortable with Vaneers and Everley. He's going to get a
lot of chances to show his stuff tonight. But that
top line of Caton, Veneers and Everly has to lead
at the front. I would also say the second line
was Schwartz, Stevenson and Tolden. They've been intact probably since

(24:57):
game one. I think there was a switch there with
Schwartz for maybe one game, but for the most part,
they've been intact. They've been healthy. There's no reason why
that second line can't lead.

Speaker 1 (25:06):
You are you know who is our hero? Right? You know?
Our harrow is?

Speaker 4 (25:11):
You know who always shows up on time, who always
struts his stuff?

Crack and Audio Network Cracking trying to bounce back after
a loss on Monday at Philadelphia. Now they get there,
your said coach Lane Lambert with ever refits you.

Speaker 4 (28:13):
Thanks Mike, We're back with Cracking head coach Lane Lambert. Lane,
your first regulation loss of the season last night in Philadelphia.
Just take us through those sixty minutes in a game
in which it seemed the Kraken just couldn't find their
footing against the Flyers.

Speaker 11 (28:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 24 (28:27):
We we couldn't quite find our footing. I thought we
started the game well, we scored, you know, gave up
a tough goal on a on a mistake I guess
so to speak, you know, to let them back in
at one one, but then had a couple of chances
to short handed, had a breakaway, you know, I had
a two on one short handed, and you know, we

(28:48):
didn't bury those, and when you don't, you know, at times,
things can come back and haunt you a little bit.
They ended up scoring right away after that on the
pedal on the power play, and you know, the game
just kind of it got away from us a little bit.
You know, I thought we made some maybe some uncharacteristic mistakes,

(29:09):
but at the end of the day too. When I
look over that game and I really analyze it, it's
never as bad as you think it is, and it's
never as good as you think it is. So you know,
the game was fairly even, to be honest with you,
when we analyze all the scoring.

Speaker 4 (29:24):
Chances first time this season, I guess the Craken really,
at least from a press box view, have gone through
a bit of adversity and couldn't get to that system
and that style. You know in the manner that you
would like. What's the mindset going into back to back?
Some coaches will tell you that, hey, I like the flush,
it put it behind me and move on.

Speaker 1 (29:42):
What's going to be that message going into the night's game.

Speaker 24 (29:45):
Well, we talked about it this morning and we you know,
there's certain areas that we have to be better. For me,
it was about individual battles. We weren't hard enough, we
weren't any place, and we're playing against a team that,
in my opinion, is bigger than team we played last night.
So what's the message. You know, you better be ready
to go and we've got to win more battles.

Speaker 10 (30:07):
Last year, the crack and trying to win those battles
from the get go here against Washington. That's Lane Lambert.
