Speaker 1 (00:00):
Slow has flown off Seattle.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
Welcome to Seattle's crackin Hockey. I'm a Global credit Union
Kraken Audio Network, brought to you by Coor's Life Your
Western Washington, Toyota Dealers, Beacon Plumbing, Heating and Mechanical, Virginia Mason,
Franciscan Hill, Muckleshute Casino Resort, and by Luna and Simetra.
Speaker 3 (00:22):
It's the end of the line for the Seattle Kraken,
who pull into Winnipeg to wrap up their first of
two season long six game road trips. On Tuesday night
in our nation's capital, the Cracket stumbled out of the
gate and couldn't find their footing in a four to
one loss of the Capitol's or second regulation loss in
a row. Tonight, Seattle takes on the Winnipeg Jets, who
(00:43):
are off to a hot start, having won five in
a row and are one of the best home teams
in the NHL since the start of last season. Good evening,
Ladies and gentlemen, Welcome inside of Canada Life Center here
in downtown the Winnipeg Manitoba alongside Alconisky I have ever
fits you. This is Seattle krag and Hockey on the
Global Credit Union Cracking Audio Network. You are listening to
(01:04):
the pregame show served up by Frostbrew, Corse Light, Choug
Chill out for one loss for the Kraken in Washington,
d C. They were down three to nothing at the
end of the second Jade Schwartz's goal three point fifty
into the third period the loan tally for the Crack
in a game in which head coach Lane Lambert.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
Lambert said simply, the Kracking were not good enough.
Speaker 4 (01:25):
Yeah, a little slow to start in that game, unfortunately
for the Krack, and they certainly pushed later in the
game and kind of built it through the second period
into the third, but three goals was just.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
Too much of a hold together.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
Back to back regulation losses for Seattle. They are now
one two and two on their road trip. Soul win
tonight gets them back to five hundred some ups some
downs on this roller trip.
Speaker 1 (01:46):
For the Crack. And how would you assess the last
five outings for Seattle?
Speaker 4 (01:50):
Yeah, I think the team as the whole has responded positively,
But to what's gone on with the roster in terms
of injuries and guys out of the lineup, it was
six as of yesterday, it's down to five. Now we
expect Meson Mark's going to be back in the lineup tonight,
So that's going to be a positive aspect of the
game as far as the forwards go. But I think
in terms of how they've responded, that's been a positive
for me.
Speaker 3 (02:10):
On the other side of the Red Lione, this is
a Winnipeg Jets team that is one of the hottest
teams at home in the last season plus in the
NHL thirty seven and four at home last season. They
have allowed one goal or fewer in twenty one of
their last forty four home games for the Seattle Kracken.
They've been able to find the backup the net here
in this building, but are three to two in their
(02:32):
last five against the Winnipeg Jets.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
Something has to give here tonight, but it's not going
to be easy.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:37):
The team, as far as the Jets go, that can
give up a lot of shots on goal cracking to
take advantage of that. They've got confidence coming in here
because they have had success in the past. But you're right,
the Jets are in a five game heater right now.
Mark Schaft, He's got five goals in the last five games.
He's gonna be someone to the cracking try and shutdown tonight.
Speaker 1 (02:53):

Massive screens, food, drinks, friends, the vibe at the charts.
Come on down here to Tom's watch Bar. Certainly them
that you can be with us here. The Kraken coming
in right now three two and two, eight points on
the season. This is a finale of their six game
(06:34):
road trip and looking to break a string of two
consecutive losses. The Jets coming in on a heater right now,
five and one, ten points, and they are opening up
their first of a three game homestand winning five in
a row. So for this game, can McCracken end this
road trip on a high note. They come off back
to back losses against Philadelphia and Washington and outscored in
(06:56):
those two games combined total of nine to three, both
losses by three. Gold Deppess said, So can the Kraken
find a massive turnaround in what can be a very
tough place to play? If they can do it, their
road trip could end add two to two and one,
not too shabby considering the moving parts and bodies in
and out of the lineup here as the Crack and
again trying to sort out defensive issues. Four of five
(07:18):
games allowing four goals or more, but all this without
the likes of Jared McCann, Koppocaco, Freddie Goodreaux and recently
Mason Marshman upfront. Defensively, Brandon Montour and Ryker Evans out
of action. Mason Marshman likely to come back here for
this evening. We'll get two more of this year, of course,
in just a bit, but this game first of three
(07:38):
against the Jets here for this season and tonight. You
could say it's a family affair. First off, the battle
of the brothers Flurry Kale on the Crack. Inside that
being Kale Flurry is brother Hayden, of course, a part
of the expansion team here now part of Winnipeg. It's
also a battle of the Lamberts Lane Lambert for the Kraken,
their head coach, Brad Lambert, his nephew. At one time
(08:01):
a Seattle Thunderbird of the WHL, he is now a
part of the Jets' core up front as a third
line four plus lane. Lambert's mother is what we learned
in attendance here for this evening. Plus on the Kraken
coaching stab, Jessica Campbell, Saskatchewan tie. She has family and
friends as well in the house, So plenty of extra
energy here on the Kraken side considering family matters for
(08:23):
the Crack and they're trying to gain their third win
all time against Winnipeg and they won't go back out
there for quite a while. Next match up in Winnipeg
April sixth is a Crack and aiming for the second
win in seven tries against the Jets. Last game out
the Krack and losing for to one at Washington back
on Tuesday, when the Capitols score three unanswered goals. The
(08:45):
crackt held in just nine shots in the first two periods,
despite Jayden Schwarz trying to ignite a third period comeback.
Matt Murray and during a tough loss of his Krack
and debut thirty one saves on thirty four shots, Logan
Thompson only having to make sixteen say on the Washington side.
Last check in here for the Cracking story lines First off,
it's special teams play at the cracking with the goal
(09:06):
in the power play in five of the last six games,
but now facing Winnipeg, who owns the top NHL penalty
kill unit. The KRACK and PK other side taking a
few lumpster trying to turn things around, previously giving up
goals in five of the last six games, and they're
facing a Jets team third right now. On the power
play there are six of twenty, so the Kraken can't
(09:28):
take penalties, but they've been pretty good in that situation.
Nineteen miners they have taken. That's sixth fewest in the
NHL on the penalty side. Second story line, this guy
potentially on the verge of coming back.
Speaker 3 (09:41):
Montor find the steph Ork Terry go take it off
to the corner, considering pass Bason, Welcome to Seattle, Bason
Bursehman his first goal in tracking.
Speaker 13 (10:01):
Pretty big addition here in more ways than one when
you consider Mason Marshman's size to face this Jets lineup,
but also pretty productive four points first six games, looking
like the He'll skate with Chandler Stevenson and Ellie Tolbinan
and our third story line, Joey to Cords starting in net.
Can he get back to winning for him? He is
trying to bounce back from a five to two loss
of Philadelphia Monday, giving up five goals on twenty one
(10:24):
shots through two periods and against the Jets. Not too
bad here nine to one to four, say percentage in
what will be coming up? His sixth appearance had to head.
Let's hear more from the Kraken. Here's Matty ben Heerer
is also talking about the Kracking getting a big chance
for a bounce back game tonight.
Speaker 15 (10:41):
I think we started out, you know, pretty good in
the trip. You know, we obviously did play the way
we wanted to the last two games. So I think
it's just a good opportunity for us to get back
to our game, a little bit of a bounce back game.
And yeah, they're obviously a good team, but yeah, I
think it's it's good for us to you know, go
through you know a little bit of you know, a
couple of games on so well, so you know what
(11:02):
it's like when you when you're not dialed in, not
at your best, and what it's like when you are
at your best in your winning games.
Speaker 13 (11:08):
On Vanier's this wing will be Berkeley Catton once again.
Of course, Catton trying to crack the crack and line
up here on a full time basis, first year out
of the WHL, and Baniers said more on Catton's game,
and he's doing the right things.
Speaker 15 (11:20):
You know, both games he played, he was really good.
He was moving his feet, he was fast, he was
making plays. You know, that's that's the biggest thing for me.
You know, it's sometimes it's hard coming in, you know,
to the NHL obviously big stage, and you might be
a little nervous and you know, maybe not playing making
normal plays you would. But I thought he's done a
great job with that. He's he's moving his feet, he's
making plays, he's winning battles. You know, he's going down
(11:42):
to block shots, you know, doing little things to help
us win. So I thought he's done a great job.
Speaker 13 (11:48):
Injury updates side right now has four cracking players banged up.
Of course, cop Bolcaco out six weeks, Riker Evans six
to eight weeks, Freddie Goodrou four to six weeks as well,
all on IR Jared McCanns to old Day today, Brandon
montor separately he is on lead due to a personal manner.
Still away here from the team. We'll come back in
a bit and take a look at the jets. After this,

(14:40):
you back at our new location throughout this entire season.
Throughout much of the season, Tom's Watch Bar right across
the street from Climate Pledge Arena. Come on down and
join us open here for this evening. Talk about the Jets.
They're one of the oldest teams in the league, but
one of the biggest contenders out there. Average age twenty
nine point five, that second oldest, but their window was
(15:01):
now Seven of the last eight years made the playoffs,
but only made it pass a second round twice. But
underhead coach Scott Arneial. They're trying to build off last
year fifty six wins, also capturing the President's Trophy, that
of course being for top record in the league. Maintaining
still a corps which includes Kyle Connor, Mark Schifley, Josh Morrissey,
Connor Hellibuck as well and the Spider Nikolai Eeler's out
(15:24):
the door. They brought a long time standing veteran who's
won three Cups in that's Jonathan Taves, previously the black Hawks,
now playing for his hometown Jets team, with four points
here in six games, and they are a threat on
home ice, as Everett talked about a record last year
at home of thirty seven and four. They have won
five games in a row, coming off a two to
(15:46):
one win over Calgary on Monday, and with the Jets
right now on quite the heater, they have outscored the
opposition at twenty three to thirteen. Your Jeff story lines,
first off, begin with Mark Scheifeley. He's in a five
game goal scoring streak seven goals in that span. Can
the Kraken slow him down? He recently, of course, became
the Jets franchise leader in points passing. Blake Wheeler, and
(16:08):
he'll be a part of their top line, of course,
with Kyle Connor and Gabriel Vallardi on the wings second storyline.
The Jets power play third right now in the NHL.
They are six of twenty two begin the season. They
have scored in five straight games, and they have spread
the offense out all across, with Alexeiah follow Nino Niner,
Rider Taves and Kyle Connor each earning three points of
(16:30):
the man advantage last of the Jets power play in
the series, just one for five of the krack and
limiting their looks. So the Kracken will certainly want to
keep it that way. Here for this evening, let's hear
more from Winnipeg and head coach Scott Arneial shared more
on a key here for tonight, which includes checking coming
from the game of quickness.
Speaker 18 (16:50):
When we talk about defending, it's our quickness and it's
our ability to close in time and space and when
you're taking the stick from fractions as we're probably late,
or I don't want to say lazy, but maybe we're
not pounding strides hard enough to get to people. And
I think that's part of what we have to do now.
We're going to criticize the guys for the physical penalties
that happen, and there are few those in that have
(17:12):
happened in the games.
Speaker 7 (17:13):
But the other.
Speaker 18 (17:13):
Side, when we when we skate and close and use
our quickness on people, then we're away from that. We're
away from that stuff where we have to use our sticks,
our hands and grabbing onto people.
Speaker 13 (17:23):
Connor Hellibuck starts a net four and one record in
five games this year. He has won four games in
a row out of the cracking. Get to him and
the Jets ever now talk about it with your three keys.
After this, you're listening to the Global Credit Union cracking
audio network.

Speaker 4 (20:06):
I was reminded when I left, and I've gotta face

Speaker 1 (20:10):
I couldn't hear it, but yeah, looked pretty dark.
Speaker 3 (20:12):
Good My friend Kracking wrapping up a six game road
trip here today in Winnipeg, trying to overcome a pair
of regulation losses Tuesday in Philly, Wednesday, or I guess
Monday in Philly, Tuesday in Washington, d C. An opportunity
to go five hundred and two to two and two
on this road.
Speaker 1 (20:27):
Your mal will not be easy. How can they get
it done here tonight?
Speaker 4 (20:31):
Well, first of all, you're gonna win the battle in
the trenches here tonight. Listen, the Jets are gonna come
out flying with that high octane offense, but the Kraken
need to muck it up in the corners and along
the boards. You gotta get in their throw bodies around
and make Winnipeg earn every inch of ice. This is
a blue collar hockey game and Seattle needs to roll
up their sleeves and go to work. Secondly, stay out
(20:51):
of the sinbin. The Jets have one of the most
lethal power plays in the league, and you cannot I repeat,
cannot give them opportunities with the man advantage. Keep your
sticks down, your elbows in, and play discipline hockey for
a full sixty minutes. One lazy penalty could be the
difference between two points and heading home empty handed. And
then third get traffic in front of Connor Hellibuck. Hellibuck
(21:14):
can see through a screen door in a rain storm,
So you've got to plant bodies right in his kitchen
and make life miserable for him. Crash the crease, tip pucks,
create chaos and force him to make saves he can't
see coming. No easy nights for goaltenders in this league, folks.
So there you have it. Play mean, stay clean, and
Parker Winnebago in front of Connor Hellibuck, follow these three
(21:36):
keys and the krack and will be singing O Canada
all the way back to Seattle with two points in
their pocket.
Speaker 1 (21:41):
Siren door and arrange storm. That's good.
Speaker 3 (21:43):
I was actually gonna talk to you a little bit
more about the Winna back Jets. So they're five and
one this season, on a five game winning streak to
begin this year. They have been out shots in each
game so far this season. They have allowed at least
thirty shots in each game this season. So I mean, defensively,
Winnipeg is about as stout as they come.
Speaker 1 (22:02):
But offensively, Kyle Connor has started off strong. Mark Steifeley has.
Speaker 3 (22:07):
Now become the new all time Jets point leader on
a career best ten points through his first six games
of the regular season.
Speaker 1 (22:14):
Very hard to find weaknesses in this Winnipeg lineup.
Speaker 4 (22:17):
Yeah, reminds me of a team in Alberta from the
eighties that won a lot of Stanley Cups. They could
score their way out of problems. They had a goaltender
Grandfeur that could take a lot of shots, whatever number
of goals he allowed, they didn't care. They were gonna
score more. And I think that you're seeing a little
bit of that Jets Jets team and that they give
up a lot of shots on goal, but they're so
talented on their top six, their top deep pairings that
(22:37):
they're not worried about it because they know they can
score at the other end.
Speaker 1 (22:40):
On the crack inside.
Speaker 3 (22:41):
We're getting used to Lane Lambert and his style and
his demeanor in his way that he carries himself and
he's very honest, he's very blunt at times, and this
morning simply saying the last two games, but especially Washington
on Tuesday, the effort was not good enough. You're on
your last road trip, your last game of this road trip.
Your bet is twenty yeah, sixty minutes away. But I
(23:05):
mean for the krack and where do you see that
they need to improve the most from where they were
Tuesday to where they can go tonight.
Speaker 4 (23:11):
Well, I mean it, it'd be simple just to say effort,
because that was what Lane Lambert talked about. But I
think it's going to be a cleaner game. I think
it's going to be starting on time with that cleaner
effort driven game. If you're if you're winning puck battles,
if you're winning battles in front of the net, if
you're chasing guys down on the back check and taking
away pucks. You didn't see a lot of takeaways. We
talked about that, and then the post game that Washington
(23:33):
doubled up the number of takeaways that Seattle had. If
they can flip the script on that and double up
for the Jets, to me, that's a big sign of
effort and I'll be watching that stat tonight.
Speaker 3 (23:42):
Joey Decord back in the Pipe Series tonight. The Cracking
have scored the first goal five of six games so
far the season. Trying to get back in the win column.
You know who stays in the wing column.
Speaker 1 (23:53):
Oh, absolutely, Mike Betton. Mike Betton. He had two games
on the road with us and he said, you know what,

a couple months ago in Washington, d C. In the
second game with that back to back, just take us
through those thoughts, your thoughts on that game in a
game in which you said that you didn't quite like
how the Kraken played, but you still do like how
this team is buying into the system that you're trying.
Speaker 1 (26:56):
To develop here.
Speaker 23 (26:58):
Yeah, I didn't like the way we played at all.
You know, I thought there was a lot of things
that we have been working on from day one that
we didn't do, and.
Speaker 18 (27:12):
You can't.
Speaker 23 (27:14):
Pick and choose when you're going to do them.
Speaker 10 (27:17):
And so.
Speaker 23 (27:19):
I thought the game was was wasn't good, And I
thought it was an opportunity and should be an opportunity
for us to learn and grow from that. You know,
we expect to win every game, and we can't win
if we don't buy into the way we're uh, you know,
the way we want to play. We've done a really
good job of it for the most part. And you know,
(27:43):
that was that was a game where for me, certain
certain areas of that game were completely unacceptable.
Speaker 22 (27:51):
With it being the second game of a back to back,
your first back to back this season, do you feel
that that situation played any role into that effort for
your team?
Speaker 23 (28:01):
I don't care if it's back to back, it can't
And again, this was you know, this is a good
learning experience for a hockey team.
