Speaker 1 (00:00):
This roof has hold off Seattle.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Welcome to Seattle, Krakin Hockey on the Global Credit Union
Kraken Audio Network, Brought to you by Coor's Life, Your
Western Washington, Toyota Dealers, Veacon Plumbing, Heating and Mechanical, Virginia Mason,
Franciscan Hill, Muckleshoote Casino Resort, and by Luna and Symetra.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
Exactly two weeks to the day since their last skate
under our roof, the Seattle Cracking returned home following a
marathon road trip that featured a little.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
Bit of everything.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
The krackt went two to two and two in their
six games away and capped it off with a statement
shutout win in Winnipeg on Thursday against a Jets team
that had won five in a row and had only
lost eight times on home ice in regulation since the
start of last season. Tonight, Seattle opens up a five
game homestand against the Edmonton Oilers, who have been the best.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
In the West two years running.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
Bots have gotten to a slow start out of the game.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
Good evening, ladies and gentlemen.
Speaker 3 (01:04):
It feels so good to welcome you back inside of
Climate Bledgerina. Here in beautiful downtown Seattle, Washington, alongside Alkiniski.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
I have eward fits you. This is Seattle Crack and
Hockey on the Global Credit Union Cracking Audio Network.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
You are listening to the pregame show served up by
Frostbrew Corpse Light Joe Chill Al I forgot how to
get here this morning. I took a wrong turn at
Albu Quaking and I was finally able to get back
to Climate Bledgerina two weeks ago.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
Today the Crack and we're in this building against Vegas.
But tonight they welcome in the Oilers. After a very
successful road trip, Yeah two two and two on the
road trip, ending with a huge winning Winnipeg.
Speaker 4 (01:45):
You know, without the Nichols, that game could have ended
one nothing, But it was all result of team buying
on the defensive structure that this team is just living
with and playing with so perfectly.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
That year.
Speaker 3 (01:56):
It was really about defense and structure in those six games,
and outside of two days loss in Washington, you really
can't point to a single game.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
And say, man, the Kracket just didn't have it tonight.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
In one area that stood out was the power play
the Kracket on that road trip four for fifteen, including
a power play goal in each of the first four
games of that trip.
Speaker 4 (02:18):
Yeah, and specifically on the Winnipeg game, I talked about
a key of staining ut of the box. They gave
Winnipeg three power play opportunities and were perfect killing off
all three of them.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
That was huge, obviously, Joey.
Speaker 4 (02:28):
The Quartz game was huge. We talked about Stevenson in
the game and the faceoff Dodd and how he was
better than fifty percent of the night. A lot of
bright spots on that road trip. You want road trips
to build character, to build grit. I think you absolutely
got better with those six games.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
On the other side of the red line, this is
an Oilers team coming off of a six to five
win over Montreal a couple of nights ago, but they're
off to a slow start this season. Now, three years
in a row, the Oilers have failed to reach the
five win plateau in their first eight games played. In fact,
six of their last ten seasons they've only reached. They've
(03:03):
only gotten to four wins or fewer in their first
eight games.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
So if you're the cracking you'd much rather face Edmonton.
Speaker 3 (03:10):
In the first month and a half of the season
as opposed to in marchor April.
Speaker 4 (03:13):
Yeah, you absolutely would. That just tends to be the
case with Edmonton for some reason. They do expect to
see Skinner and net He's had success against the Kraken
over past season, so they're gonna have to find a
way to get to him early.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
We're gonna get to Mike Betton momentarily, but before we do,
we want to send our condolences to Brandon Montour and
his family.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
Montour has been out in the last half.
Speaker 3 (03:34):
Of games, losing his brother to a battle of als,
and he is back in the lineup here tonight after
a lengthy absence.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
He had a very emotional.
Speaker 3 (03:43):
Press conference this morning, and of course we send our thoughts,
in our prayers and all of our well wishes to
the Monsur family.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
But in talking to him this morning.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
He is excited to get back on the ice with
his hockey family and hope for a little bit of
a distraction from a very hard time back at home.
Speaker 4 (04:01):
Yeah, it sounds like his family really came together. And
obviously he talked about Cameron and his scrub this morning,
and you know what he meant to him, and also
this family, this cracking family here as well, and what
it meant coming back into the locker room. So we
wish the best for him and his family. And yes,
Opera fedels a.
Speaker 1 (04:19):

Mike Betton has got more for you.

Mike Patton again with you back for the course light
(07:40):
landing in section twenty for the cracking on to a
terrific start at four two and two and ten points
this opening game one of five on their homes dand
they're going to be here for quite a while. The
Oilers coming in four to three and one. They have
nine points and right now in their first back to
back games on the road. Well, without question, here the
(08:00):
top story for this day the welcomed edition of Brandon Montor,
but it comes with a somber mood and a somber tone.
He's back, but with a heavy heart and for many
of us with heavy hearts as well too. His brother
Cameron passing away from als earlier this week, and here's
Montour's first words about it and his emotions earlier today.
Speaker 13 (08:21):
Yeah, so my older brother's been dealing with als for
three four years now, and you know it's a rough
week and you know, very proud, very happy to be
his brother, somebody that I've looked up to here since
obviously day one, and you know, a great son, brother,
(08:45):
best friend, father. You know, he's got two baby girls.
But you know he he battled hard. You kind of
put you know, bring into perspective with you know, all
the highs that you know, I've had in the last
couple of years with winning and you know, hockey and
having babies and creating my own family. He was at
(09:07):
home battling till the monday when it happened. You know,
he was smiling and he was ready. So again, proud
of him. You know, the families having a tough go.
Obviously you lose one so close, but to have everyone
together and you know for the week was good. And
(09:29):
being back here in Seattle and seeing my kids and
being a part of this again, you know, keep my
mind off you know, other things which would be good,
but miss them. And again he's probably smiling and chirping
me up there, you know for crying, but love them.
And that was a tough week.
Speaker 12 (09:48):
Cameron is certainly an inspiration Montor missed the last four
games on the trip to be with family, and he said,
being back now with teammates, hare's plenty of meaning.
Speaker 13 (09:57):
Yeah, it's good. It's uh, I get it keeps my mind,
you know, away from other things. And you know, again,
you just look back at I've only practiced, you know,
once or twice all year and missed a lot. So
try to get back into it as quick as I can,
and you know, focus on you know, I've been watching
(10:18):
from afar and happy with how the guys are playing.
So it's just kind of had what I bring on
the ice and off the ice and keep plugging away.
Speaker 12 (10:27):
So this is not just a hockey story, but it
is also a live story. And you can bet the
roars of the crowd will be extra loud for Brandon
Montur here this evening. So he's back with the Crack
and facing Edmonton in the first of four matchups, and
the Crack and looking to go three and oh to
start the season at home, but looking for just their
third win and nine tries against Edmonton all time here
(10:49):
in Seattle. The Kraken looking for just fourth win also
in sixteen games against Edmonton, but they won the last
matchup six to one last year back in March twenty seventh. However,
that game did not include the likes of Conor McDavid
and Leon dry Sidle and will certainly talk about the
effect that they can have here on this Edmonton lineup
later on. So this being the first of five games
(11:10):
at home the Crack and then after this one facing Montreal,
the Rangers, Chicago and San Jose and trying to build
off a successful two to two and two trip where
they dealt with plenty of injuries in their last game
of three nothing win over Winnipeg when Joey Decord had
a thirty two save shutouts. Your cracking story lines first
up again with getting Montor back into the lineup. As
(11:30):
far as on ice matters, he has points in three
of his first four games played. He'll go back to
his usual pairing with Ryan Lindgren, and he also got
looks this morning back at morning Skate on the second
power play units, so you can bet there is certainly
an emotional component of this game which carries a ton
of weight with him now being back in the lineup. Secondly,
it is the special team's battle of this one, the
(11:53):
Crack and pedaling kill against Winnipeg in that win was
spectacular three of three and it was their first clean
sheet in a game since they blank Montreal back on
October fourteenth. But as far as this game, the crack
and know they have to stay out of the box
right now, So far, so good. They have the third
fewest of time on ice for a PK in the NHL.
(12:14):
Ed Minton though is six in the NHL on the
power play, and they have been very very productive all
time at a twenty seven percent clip. Here's Ben's done
with more on this battle where it could certainly make
a big impact.
Speaker 14 (12:27):
Special teams are huge always against these guys, usually a
lot of power plays both ways. But I think the
neutral zone game is going to be biggest for us.
Is controlling their speed and making sure that our puck
possession play and where we're entering the zone and how
we're entering the zone is strategic. I think keeping the
puck away from them is what you want to do
(12:48):
most of the game, So just trying to sustain pressure
and making sure that we're all connected through three zones.
Speaker 12 (12:53):
And a big part of that dynamic is also Jayden Schwartz.
He's our third story line. Here for this one. He
is out to a tremendous start eight points in eight
games and that right now leads the Kraken in scoring.
And he has found a way to be productive in
his career throughout his career against Edmonton, leading the Kraken
with thirty eight points in thirty five all time games
(13:14):
against the Oilers. He'll be back to play tonight with
Shane Wright and Yannie Newman as his linemates, and he
owns goals in back to back games. Injury update mccracking
getting Capocaco potentially back sooner. He was upgraded here today
today by Lane Lambert earlier and maybe he said next
week could be telling about him being back soon. In
the lineup, Ryker Evans, Freddie goodrou Jared McCann as well
(13:37):
mccamban day to day. They're also on IR Joey de
coord start Sidnette who he faces. We'll come back and
talk about it with more after this and a chat
about the Edmonton Oilers. And you're listening to the Global
Credit Union Cracking Audio Network.

line with Edmonton minus one eighty five and the over

(16:09):
Frostbrewed Corps Light, Choose Chill, Mike Betting with You back
by the Corps Light Landing in section twenty and about Edmonton,
they bring back the same dangerous Corps that's made them
the two time defending Western Conference champion. That includes a
course Connor McDavid, Leon Dristidel, Ryan Nugent Hopkins, Evan Bouch
Schard and they're still ticking here with a bit of
(16:29):
a turnover from this last summer. Among the bodies out
Jeff Skinner, Corey Perry, Connor Brown, Victor Arvidson, and Evander Kaine,
while Edmonton bringing in Andrew Manjapanee and Isaac Howard. They
have a road heavy schedule here too, begin now with
Connor McDavid under a new contract. Seven of their first
ten games on the road, but they stumbled a bit
(16:50):
five game road trip, going two and three, scoring just
nine goals combined, but found a way to bounce back
offensively last game six to five win over Montreal, including
a two goal comeback when they trailed by two and
Vasilli Podcoles and had the game winner with one oh
nine to play in regulation. Edmonton storylines, of course, begin
with how can the Cracking contain Connor McDavid and Leon
(17:14):
Dry's title. They can be a handful against the Kraken
lifetime Dry title twenty six points in twelve games, most
point per game, by the way for him versus any
team in the NHL and mad David against the krack
in nineteen points in thirteen games, but curiously this year
this one goal in just eight games, most of his
points coming via assists. He's got eleven in ain't so far,
(17:38):
but those two lead all Edmonton Ford's in time on
ice against the krackt and so the Cracking had to
be aware defensively each and every shift. Secondly, the Oilers
power play last game two for five against Montreal, but
against the Kraken they have gone twelve for forty four
but three of the last five meetings. Keep this in mind,
the Krack and doing much better with staying out of
(17:58):
the box. They have failed thatnton and just two powerplay
chances or less Oilers, by the way gotten all goals
out of that. So more from Edmonton. And here's head
coach Chris non Block, who has split up Connor McDavid
and Leon dry Settle separately. So you have three lines
of McDavid, Dry Title and Ryan NuGen Hopkins as there's centers.
The non Blocks said, and that's their idea of formula
(18:20):
here for tonight.
Speaker 18 (18:21):
Yes, tonight, that's what we're doing. And you know, obviously
all three of them are very good centermen and it
gives us a strength now to do that. We need
other guys to step up and be able to play
some pretty significant roles. And you know, some young guys
moving up in our top six who have been playing
(18:42):
really well and hopefully they can continue.
Speaker 12 (18:44):
It's gonna be Stewart Skinner Annette. He's two to two
and one in five games for Edmonton this season, So
how do the crack impose a challenge for him and
the Oilers?
Speaker 1 (18:53):
Ever?
Speaker 12 (18:54):

We're back inside of Climbing Pledge Arena Cracking and Oilers
the first of four meetings on the season Crack in
the first of five in a row at home following
a successful too and two road trip out east. Ever
fits you Alconiski alongside Al It's been a while but
the Kraken would love to string back to back wins together.
Following a three nothing shutouts in Winter Peg on Thursday,
(21:23):
how can they get it done here today?
Speaker 4 (21:25):
Well, I'm gonna start with the easy one. Clamp down
on McDavid and Dryside. You don't say you don't stop
McDavid and dry so you just need to contain them
the krack. You need discipline, gaps, active sticks and no
freebies through the middle. Make those two earn every inch
and you take away half of events. Inspire power. Secondly,
attack the blue paint. Stuart Skinner has been shaky when
(21:46):
traffic piles up in front of him. Seattle's forwards need
to crash the crease, banging rebounds and make life miserable
for the Oilers defense. Ugly goals count the same as
highlight real ones. And then third, stay out of the box.
I copied that one from last game. The Oilers power
pulay can turn a tight game into a track meet.
Fast Keeping penalties to a minimum and maintaining structure on
(22:09):
clears will be critical. Five one five the crack and
have the depth advantage They got to use it. Summary,
I would say, in short, don't let David run the
run wild, make Skinner's night a nightmare, and for the
love of all things tentacled to stay out of the box.
The Cracker need to be sharks, not sardines in this one.
Keep the water, chopping the ford check, relentless that if
they play their game, they might just send the Oilers
(22:30):
home looking for a life.
Speaker 3 (22:32):
Raft Well, and listen, you're trying to build off of
a three to nothing win in Winnipeg. And Mike Benton,
our very own Mike Benton had the best question of
the press conference this morning, essentially asking Lane Lambert, how
do you find the balance between being physical and disciplined
(22:54):
but also being too excited and undisciplined.
Speaker 1 (22:57):
This has been a very physical.
Speaker 3 (22:58):
Style of play of the Crack and have had the
first handful of games and you want to try and
keep that in check but yet be effective still.
Speaker 4 (23:06):
Tonight, Yeah, you absolutely do. And you know some would say, well,
you got to pick your spots. That's hard to do
in the game of hockey. Yeah, you're either playing physical
or or not. You know, it's gotta be something that
the guy's embraced. The game doesn't get any easier just
because you're back at Climate Pledgermina. It's more fun because
you get your crowd behind, but the game on the
ice isn't any easier and you've got to come at
it that way.
Speaker 3 (23:26):
Brandon Montour back in the lineup today after four games
after a personal leave, and we find that we found
out this morning his brother camp passing away after a
battle with als and his older brother, and he talks
so much about how much of a hero he was,
and he was smiling up to the end, and he
even joked that he's probably chirping me right now for
(23:47):
crying talking about him.
Speaker 1 (23:48):
But obviously your family is what comes first.
Speaker 3 (23:52):
But even Montour saying it feels good to be back
around his hockey family, and while keeping the personal side
in perspective, it's still going to be good to have them.
Speaker 1 (24:01):
Back in the line up.
Speaker 4 (24:02):
Yeah, And I think personally, I mean, everybody deals with
lost differently and certainly stressful situations, but sometimes getting back
to something you're used to, which is being around the
game of hockey, being with the guys in the locker
room and contributing with a team that's been.
Speaker 1 (24:17):
Playing really well. I think he's eager to do that.
Speaker 4 (24:19):
He's got four assists on the four goals he's played
so far, he's plus three. He's in a great spot
to pick pick up, pick up from there. I'm looking
forward to seeing what he brings tonight.
Speaker 1 (24:27):
And real quick.
Speaker 3 (24:28):
Sticking with personnel matters, you look at Shane Wright, you
look at Jaydon Schwartz. They had two exceptional road trips
along with Chandler Stevenson as well. Those three players I
think have been really the offensive leaders, the catalyst stiff
you will these last handful of games.
Speaker 1 (24:45):
So why the cracking are where they are? Yeah? I
love Jayden Schwartz's game. He was involved in all three
goals in.

We're back with Cracking head coach Lane Lamberton. We heard
from Brandon Montor this morning. It was a very hard
week for him after the loss of his brother. What's
going to be the important piece that you want to
drive home not only welcoming him back, but the role
that his teammates can help him and you know, offering
a distraction, as he said this.
Speaker 22 (28:11):
Morning, Well, that's just it, you know. I mean for
anyone who's suffered loss, you know, there's a certainly a
process that you have to go through and sometimes it's
good to.
Speaker 20 (28:23):
Get back to.
Speaker 22 (28:25):
I guess life is normal, you know, and I know
that's you know, it's not gonna be or it isn't,
but certainly there's a there's a help in being able
to do that and get your mind on the game
and maybe take it away from a little bit of
(28:45):
you know what you're feeling in terms of off the ice,
you know, a little bit of help from that standpoint,
and certainly his teammates and him being around his teammates there,
they've been super supportive and we're just here for him.
Speaker 21 (29:00):
No matter what. Six different games, two, two and two overall.
Just take us through your thoughts on the longest road
trip of the season for the Kracking.
Speaker 22 (29:08):
Well, I'm glad it's over. In terms of the longest,
it was quite lengthy, there's no question about it. It
felt like we were gone for quite a while. And
you know, I thought, we thought we had a lot
of good lessons that we.
Speaker 21 (29:22):
Learned on the trip.
Speaker 22 (29:23):
Like you say, there was different games, different ways. You know,
a few overtime games, some losses, some wins, a game
we didn't like at all, and you know, why did
we play that type of a game? So these are
really good lessons for us to learn. Give our guys
full credit, they responded, after playing that why type of
(29:47):
game we played and played the way we should play
in Winnipeg. So really good opportunity to grow as a group.
And I thought, I thought we did that. Now we're
home and we have to continue going.
Speaker 12 (30:02):

road trip returning home again Edmonton, Naslane, Lambert and more
