Speaker 1 (00:00):

Welcome to Seattle Kraken Hockey on the Global Credit Union

Speaker 3 (00:20):
We've reached the last stop on Seattle's four game trip
following a thrilling comeback win.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
Last night in Pittsburgh.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
Mason Marshman kicked off the scoring, snapping an eighteen game
gold rout.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
In the second. However, the Kraken found themselves down two
to one early in the third. It was Matty Beniers
who tied the.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
Game with seven and a half left, and in overtime
Brandon Montor played hero with fifty seconds to go to
lift the Crack into their second consecutive three to win. Tonight,
Seattle heads to Long Island to take on an Islander's team, who,
like Seattle, finds themselves in third place in their division,
having won six of their last eight. Good After New
(01:00):
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome inside of Ubs Arena here on
Long Island. El Motts, New York, alongside Alconiski. I am
Everet Fitzy. This is Seattle Kracking Hockey on the Global
Credit Union Cracking Audio Network. You are listening to the
pregame show served up by Frostbrew, cors Late Choose Chill.
Speaker 1 (01:16):
It was a back and forth game last night.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
Partner in Pittsburgh, Mason Marshmen in eighteen game goal droughts
snapped the Kraken put Pittsburgh on the power play four times.
They scored one, but they had to come back again,
back and forth, ups and downs, no team really able
to grab the momentum until Seattle won it in overtime.
Speaker 4 (01:37):
Yeah, that's stood out. Giving the best power play in
the league, four opportunities to get it done. It wasn't
until the fourth one that they finally put one in
the back of the net. Kept them to twenty five percent.
They came into the game at thirty two percent, so
a little bit better. But what stood out to me
was all three Kraken goals last night, all three were snipes. Yeah,
there weren't greasy goals, there weren't deflections. I don't think
this team wants to rely on that, but that was
(01:57):
a little unique.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
I was gonna ask you, we've seen this. This is
a greasy team. They go to the net, they deflect
pucks on goal. Are we a team full of shooters here?
Speaker 4 (02:07):
I don't think that one game decides that, but hey,
the coach, Slane Lambert talked about wanting to put poor
more pucks on net, so there was a real shooter
mentality in the game last night. I think that needs
to continue here this afternoon, but I expect to see
more greasy goals today.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
PK three for four last night for Seattle.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
The Cracking have allowed a power play goal in nine
straight games. But despite those numbers, Laye Lambert still happy
with the penalty kill. And I think a large reason
is that they're getting their looks, they're getting their assignments.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
If anything, they have to stay out of the box war. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
Absolutely. And the goal that was scored, it was a
flurry in front. Eventually Malcolm poked it in, but it
wasn't a back door tip in. It wasn't an open
net situation. So although it was a power play goal
that it will go down as one. I think it
was one of those ones that you know, it was
a fifty to fifty puck on.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
The other side of the red line.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
This Islanders team six two to zero in their last
eight games. They've all scored teams twenty five to fifteen,
including a pair of five nothing shutouts in that stretch,
like Seattle there in the midst of a thick at
the Metro Division playoff race. So this is gonna be
a tough game for both sides, both teams coming off
of a back to back.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
Islanders losing here at home last night to the Saint.
Speaker 4 (03:18):
Louis absolutely and we all know the record of the
sale Krackt and their second of back to back, so that's
on their mind here tonight, trying to break that. They're
gonna face David Rickett Net at the other end of
the ice. He's four one to zero against the Kracken
in his career, so you know he's coming in with
some confidence.
Speaker 3 (03:31):

Glad you're with us here as a Kraken coming in
second game of back to back eleven to five and
five record, two points out a first place in the
Pacific Division, right now ending a four game road trip,
trying to conclude it at three and one. The Islanders
coming in right now twelve eight and two, twenty six
(07:28):
points and they are right now in the midst of
a seven game homestand the Kraken trying to improve in
their record of six and two head to head against
the Islanders and bolster their record on Long Island two
four and one. They have won four in a row
so far in this series. Well, they got to move
on pretty quickly. Here from a thriller last night in Pittsburgh,
where the mantra bend but don't break was certainly front
(07:51):
and center, and in the end it was a Kraken
defenseman right here looking to ultimately break the Penguins.
Speaker 1 (07:59):
Getzro through seven left side, over the blue line, goodtrow
to the line, Montour walks in shouts, stood.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
Montemania in overtime in Pittsburgh.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
It's a three two Seattle crack and win.
Speaker 4 (08:18):
What a great feed that Montro received just inside the
middle of the blue line of the offensive end. He
has tons of time to get his space off, he
beats Murashov low Crack and.
Speaker 1 (08:27):
Win three two. Bring on the final Cakes.
Speaker 7 (08:30):
Lots of unpacked from a three to two overtime win
in Pittsburgh, giving Brandon Montour's first game winning goal of
the season.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
The odds are out.
Speaker 7 (08:38):
You could feel we're stacked against the Krack in Pittsburgh,
out shot them thirty two to twenty one, high dangerous
scoring chances in favor of Pittsburgh seventeen to seven. Plus
they own the league's best power play unit and the
Crack and went down a man four times. Also, Sidney
Crosby and m Guinny Malkins scored in that game, and
the Penguins record when they did that entring last evening
(08:59):
get this one hundred and sixteen, ten and six. But
belief again met opportunity. The Craken got multi point games
at the Matty Beaneers and Mason march Mint Beniers again
getting his first goal in nine Mason marsmen first goal
in nineteen games, and Philip Grubauer spectacular and that with
a thirty save that for, plus the penalty kill coming
(09:19):
through three of three in the first period two set
the tone that plus according to NHL Stats, the Krake
and earning their fourth third period comeback win of this season.
The Flyers entered play as the only team with more
that plus the win also marked the first time in
Kraken history they ever earned two straight third period comeback wins.
(09:41):
Following up their victory in Chicago, the Kraken have also
won four of five and they're keeping pace right now
in a packed Western Conference at the quarter pool of
the season now, and the guy who scored that winner,
Brandon Montors, said last night, they still have yet another
level to get to.
Speaker 10 (09:57):
We're not out of it until Vernon, So I mean
showing that. I don't even know how many other times
we've you know, we'd like to kind of clean a
little bit up, so we're not dealing with that every time.
But again, we obviously a team that battles to the end,
and you know that was another one.
Speaker 7 (10:13):
So the crack and riding high off of motion then
putting it behind them pretty quickly they have to. They're
entering the first of two matchups against the Islanders here
for today, New York coming back out here in January,
climbing Pledge Arena and plenty of crossover in this game,
of course, Jordan Eberlely you go back, a former Islander
for four years. That plus Lane Lambert back on Long
Island for the first time since taking the Crack and
(10:34):
head coaching Jobby a course coach there for six years,
and Chris Taylor, also a former Islander between ninety four
and ninety seven. That plus two in the Crack in
front office, Ryan Jankowski, former AGM and the Islanders, and
Franz Nielsen on the Craken side now he spent ten
years out there as a center. Additionally, on their side
Matt Barzel with Seattle ties from his WHL days. Plenty
(10:57):
of crossover here for this game. That could feel the
emotions here from pog drops. So both teams you could
think they'll grasping for energy. Both are playing second game
of back to back the Crack and aiming for their
first win in this situation since March of twenty twenty
four and trying to end a string of sixteen straight
games winless in this situation. The Islanders have been a challenge. Meanwhile,
(11:19):
four and oh in the last four games second leg,
back to back, one lineup change here to know Yannie
Newman set out last two games. He's back in Oscar
Fisker Moulguard will be sitting out this one here for
today as a scratch cracking story lines. First off, begin
when Joey Decord starting a net this evening, making his
third appearance against the Islanders. He's two and oh with
(11:40):
a nine to two to fours say percentage all time
in this series. He's four two and two last eight appearances. Secondly,
Ryker Evans and his impact on the blue line, and
he's picking up heat right now three game points streak,
four points as well in that span and last night
getting on ice for eighteen fifty six of ice time,
second most he's had all season net plus. Matt even ears,
(12:03):
what can you do to make an impact here? He's
got points in four of his last five games and
last night, of course, breaking the eight game goals scoring
drought on align with Mason Marshmant and Jordan Eberley, who
had been generating a lot as far as chances in
the most recent stretch. Let's hear more on the crack
inside and marshmot might be finding a rhythm and Brandon
Montors said, why it is taking a bit longer than
(12:25):
usual for him.
Speaker 10 (12:26):
We're not out of it until we're none. So I
mean we've showed that I don't even know how many
other times we've you know, we'd like to kind of
clean a little bit up, so we're not dealing with
that every time. But again, we obviously a team that
battles to the end. And you know that was another one.
Speaker 7 (12:41):
Injury updates side here for the Crack and Matt Murray
will miss six weeks with a lower body ailman. Coppo
Kaka was also a week to week upper body ailmen
still out Jared mcchinn on the trip, but still not
yet ready here to go as a Crack and trying
to end back to back here with a win over
the Islanders. We'll come back in a bit and take

Your pregame show was served up by Frost Brewed cors
Light Shoes. Chill and time now for a look at
the Islanders. And they're a team being built right now
on a new headliner, and that's Matthew Schaeffer at eighteen
years of age on their back end. He was the
first overall pick, of course, and so far this year
as a rookie, he has blown away expectations, earning comparison
(16:00):
from Calee mccarr to get this Bobby Orr. He's also
now in the conversation for Team Canada at the Olympics
and already fifteen points is in his first twenty two
NHL games, leads him in time on ice at twenty
two minutes and forty eight seconds. Has given this team
a surge and energy which has translated so far onto
the ice. The Islanders began the year zero to three.
(16:22):
They are now eight three and one since Halloween, outscoring
the opposition thirty six twenty six in the spanning. Those
thirty six goals also, by the way, ty for six
in the NHL. On top of that, they're still heavy.
They can play a hard game, but they're now integrating
more scoring, depth, special teams and of course a new
attitude under head coach Patrick Wab And they're also one
(16:43):
of the tougher faceoff teams in the league or JG
Pasjo fourth right now ranking in facetot percentage wins bo
horvat six right now in the league. They'll play in
the second game of back to back here for today.
They are four to o last four games on that
second leg. Last game out they beat Utah three two
in overtime, and defensively they can be stingy in this situation.
(17:06):
Last four games second leg they have allowed just three
goals combined and they come off a two to one
last two Saint Louis to open their home stand yesterday
with Jordan Bennington earning thirty saves in the winter at
Fort Saint Louis. Here's Island's head coach Patrick Waugh, who
said a low scoring game yesterday put them behind their
plans and explained when they fell behind early.
Speaker 15 (17:29):
Yeah, they're always tougher games, and I guess the fact
that we were trailing early on probably hurt us a
little bit as well, so we didn't have the same
jump that we have maybe on the on the role
on that road trip, which is normal, you know. But
I thought that the fact that we were down by
one goal going into that second period, I really believe
(17:51):
that we could come back, and we had some good chances.
Bennington made some great saves. I thought the Blues played
a good road game as well.
Speaker 7 (17:59):
And Islander storylines. First, I'll begin with containing Bo hor
Vada's fourteen goals lead the Islanders that right now tie
for third of the NHL, and he was held out
the score sheet yesterday but has yet to be held
scoreless in back to back games here for this season,
you're starting goalie. The second story line is David Riddick,
eighth start of the season coming up here. He has
(18:20):
won back to back appearances and the Crack and trying
to hand him this first lost since November seventh against Minnesota,
and he's been tough to handle in this series. Four
and one record against the Crack and all time for
the nine oh six say percentage After this, back out

Cracking back to back three two.
Speaker 3 (20:58):
Wins after a from behind overtime thriller last night in Pittsburgh.
Speaker 1 (21:04):
They are trying to snap an h fifteen and one
stretch in game twos of back to back. How can
they get it done here today?
Speaker 4 (21:13):
Gonna start with the puck battles tonight. Win the puck battles.
Control in the corners and along the boards is critical.
Too many pucks were lost in these areas last night.
Every loose puck counts, and the team that consistently wins
battles will dictate possession and create more scoring opportunities. Secondly,
stay disciplined and avoid penalties. The Cracking gave the Penguins
too many power plays last night. The Islanders power play,
(21:35):
although struggling is of late, can capitalize on even small
mistakes with the personnel they have. Staying in the box
and making smart defensive decisions, keep momentum on Seattle's side
and then third traffic the net and follow up shots.
Goalies are human and rebounds are gifts. By crowding the crease,
screening and chasing every puck, the cracking increased the likelihood
of scoring even on tough chances. Make Islander goalie David
(21:57):
Riddick's night difficult, and he'll hand out rebounds, pounce on
loose pucks like a cat in a room full of
laser pointers. So win the battles, stay out of trouble,
and make life miserable in front of the Islander net.
Do that and the Islanders will be scrambling like someone's
looking for their phone before work. Stick to these keys
and the boys might just leave the Island with two
points and zero complaints about this road trip.
Speaker 1 (22:18):
I had a friend who had a cat.
Speaker 4 (22:19):
And and you know they pounce on those those laser points,
those loose bucks.
Speaker 1 (22:26):
When you're broken in your twenties. A cat and fun
sheep entertainment.
Speaker 3 (22:32):
So this is an Islanders team six and two and
their last eight games. They are in the middle at
the beginning rather game two of a season long seven
game home stand like Seattle, they're in the fight for
there in their division. On paper, this is a pretty
evenly matched game, but I think for Seattle and lay
Lambert said it today, the big key for the Kraken
(22:53):
is going to be getting.
Speaker 1 (22:54):
Off to a good start. They have to start this
game on time.
Speaker 4 (22:57):
Yeah, and they've had some good starts on this road trip,
but they've had the first goals of many of the games.
They didn't get that in Pittsburgh di other night. But
they have to have a good twenty minutes of hockey
in the first period. They don't want to look after
the first twenty minutes and say, well, would have, could have,
should have three shots on goal, that's not enough, et cetera,
et cetera. So I think having a good first period
will lead to a follow on second and third.
Speaker 3 (23:19):
A good matchup today, I think between Bertley Catton for
Seattle Matthew Schaeffer for the New York Islanders. Matthew Shaeffer
leads all rookie defenseman in scoring. He's third overall in
rookie scoring this season with seven goals and eight assists.
And he's a guy that even though on defense he
can drive the play, he drives the offense from the
back end.
Speaker 1 (23:38):
Yeah, he absolutely does.
Speaker 4 (23:40):
In their game last ninety log twenty seven to thirty
of ice time, the second highest in his career and
the second highest by an eighteen year old in NHL history.
Drew Dowdy with the lead there, he's gonna play all night.
You're gonna see him. It's gonna look like he's gonna
be double shifting lots to nights because he's a kid
that defends well, and obviously he's got some offensive prowess
as well.
Speaker 3 (23:58):
Finally, something has to give him here tonight. Four special teams.
The k Cana have allowed a power play goal in
nine straight games, the Islanders on a five game power
play goals rout.
Speaker 1 (24:09):
One of those streaks is gonna end here tonight.
Speaker 4 (24:11):
I think it absolutely has to, and we'll see. Both
teams need to stay on the box for those reasons.
But I think Seattle does its best when it defends well.
They're the sixth best and plus minus in the season.
Say what you want about plus minus, they're the sixth
best best in the league. Seila has the fewest third
goal or goals against in the third period. That plays
into that stinginess. And I also saw that Seala has
(24:32):
the league's fifth best overall save percentage at nine oh three.
So those three things together, keep a lot of pucks
out of your own net and uh, you know, stay
out of the box. You don't have to worry about
a power play.
Speaker 3 (24:42):

We're back with cracking head coach Lane Lambert. Following a
thrilling three two overtime win last night, you had to
overcome a second consecutive third period deficit, but you guys
got back to your system and did what makes you successful?
Speaker 1 (27:53):
Just take us through your thoughts on that game.
Speaker 19 (27:55):
Uh, yeah, no, it's uh. I thought the game was
the first period was a little a little bit back
and forth.
Speaker 1 (28:05):
You know.
Speaker 19 (28:05):
Again, second period we we had I thought we were
just okay in the second period, but you know, to
go down a goal. You know, we've made a habit,
and we don't want to continue to make a habit
of it, but we've made a habit a little bit
of coming back in games, which is really good to see.
You know. It shows our players are resilient and they believe.
So it was good to get the win.
Speaker 3 (28:26):
Philip Grubauer turned on another very strong performance. What have
you noticed about his game? And obviously you having not
been here and seen in the last few years, but
what have you thought of his progression this season and
how he's improved year over year?
Speaker 15 (28:39):
Uh?
Speaker 19 (28:39):
Yeah, No, he's he's played well this year, you know, obviously,
Uh And you know, for Groovy, I think he put
in a strong summer. I think he had a great
attitude coming in and you know it's shown in his
play this year. So he was real good for us
last night. We needed him been real good for us,
(29:01):
and he was and you know, I'm happy for him.
Speaker 3 (29:03):
Six years here in New York as an assistant and
a head coach. You were able to come back last
year as an assistant but your first trip back as
a head coach here with Seattle. What is your time
on Long Island meant to you and what can you
reflect about your time here that that helped you in
this role with Seattle.
Speaker 19 (29:17):
Well, my time in Long Island was outstanding. I mean
we had a lot of success here. You know, two
conference finals, you know, a game seven won, nothing lost
away from going to the Stanley Cup Finals. You know,
just a lot of a lot of winning, and you know,
just a lot about you know, culture and doing the
(29:39):
right things and so you know, really enjoyed it. Opened
this building up. Was part of that played at the Coliseum,
which was amazing in the playoffs. A lot of good
things and a lot of good memories here.
Speaker 7 (29:50):
That's Lane Lambert and his ten year out to an
eleven five and five start here with the Kraken, who
are trying to build on that. At the end of
back to back against the Islanders, your lineup stre next
