Following a statement win in winn a.

Speaker 4 (00:25):
Peg on Thursday, the Seattle Kraken returned home Saturday night
and got right.

Speaker 3 (00:30):
Back to work against the Edmonton Oilers.

Speaker 4 (00:32):
The captain Jordan Everley potted up air and Matti Vanair's
dished out a couple of assists for the Kraken, who
never trailed and grinded their way to a three to
two win over Edmonton. Tonight, Seattle continues its five game
homestamp against the Montreal Canadians, seeking to avenge a five
four overtime loss two weeks ago.

Speaker 3 (00:53):
On the road and cool down.

Speaker 4 (00:55):
One of the hottest teams in the NHL to begin
this season. Good Anything, Ladies and gentlemen welcome inside of

Speaker 4 (01:16):
It is Frozen Frenzy Night in the National Hockey League.
All thirty two.

Speaker 3 (01:20):
Teams are in action.

Speaker 4 (01:22):
This is the penultimate game of the Brosen Frenzy Kings
and the Sharks coming up at eleven o'clock eastern eight
o'clock Pacific time.

Speaker 3 (01:31):
But for this one right here, Partner.

Speaker 4 (01:33):
Cracking two in a row in the regulation win column
following their first two regulation losses of the season. Two
very different efforts, but the same result, a grinding three
to two win for Seattle Saturday.

Speaker 5 (01:46):
Yeah, that's the way I looked at it is.

Speaker 6 (01:47):
The game against Edmonton was a grinding win and there
were no spots in the game where there was a lull.
You had to be on every ship, You had to
grind for every inch of ice, and you could see
that very different than the game in Winnipeg, where it
was more just head to head, toe to toe battles
were there were close going both ways. There there was
ice given, ice taket.

Speaker 5 (02:05):
But to that Edmonton game.

Speaker 6 (02:06):
Was tight, and for the seventh time in this ninth
or nine game season, Seattle got.

Speaker 5 (02:10):
On board first with a huge goal by Jordan Neverley.

Speaker 4 (02:13):
And speaking of Jordan Everley ties to the team lead
and goals in points for the Seattle Crack and four
and four with eight total and listen for the Kraken,
they are the leading team in the NHL with at
least twenty one players finding their way on to the
score sheet. We knew coming into this year it was
going to be scoring by committee, and so far it's
been one heck of a committee.

Speaker 6 (02:33):
Well what's interesting about that status? You might look at
the stat sheets to wait a second, John Hayden does
not have many points next to his name. Who is
that twenty first person? It's one Joey Decord who hasn't
just says next to his name. Now, it's great to
see that depth out there. You know, when you've got
scoring by committee, it makes it hard for opposing teams,
especially in your own building the match lines, because there

(02:55):
isn't just one line that gets it done.

Speaker 5 (02:56):
And we saw that with the fourth line the internet.

Speaker 4 (02:58):
Twenty one players at least one point nine players at
least four points.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
You go back to the year the Kraken made the playoff.

Speaker 4 (03:05):
Season, two thirteen players had career highs and goals, assists,
or points. So scoring by committee going to have to
be how the crack and get.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
It done here this season.

Speaker 4 (03:14):
On the other side of the red line, one of
the hottest teams of the NHL, the Montreal Canadians, coming
in the leaders of the Atlantic Division seven to three
through their first ten games. They are three two to
zero in their last five after a four to one
to oh start, So they're calming down, cooling down, I
should say a little bit. However, they are led by

(03:35):
a pretty good cores led by Cole Kawfield in Nick Uzuki.

Speaker 7 (03:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (03:39):
Absolutely.

Speaker 6 (03:39):
This group of youngsters has been tied up for eight
years with different contracts nine years, six years, Caulfield, Dobson, Suzuki,
Coolie Hudson, Swopkoski. These guys are gonna be around for
a while. Get used to seeing them play well and playoff.

Speaker 4 (03:53):
That first contract of theirs not up until twenty thirty, so.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
They are gonna be together for some time.

Back with the corse Light landing in section twenty with
the Kracking coming into five two and two twelve points.
This is homestand game number two of five and they
hold right now second place in the Pacific, one point
back of the Vegas Golden Knights, Montreal seven and three,
fourteen points onto a hot start, first in the Atlantic
and finishing their four game road trip. This evening Special

(07:38):
night also on tap here inside Climbate Pledgerina as part
of the Kraken Common Thread. It is Hispanic Heritage night
presented by Mendelo, including the One Roof Foundation auctioning, a
player sign themed jerseys, dressing room name plays, team and
players signed prints that proceeds for that benefiting Elcentra de
la Raza and it's all part of the One Roof

(07:59):
Foundation inning again. For more info, you can go to
One Roof Foundation dot org. This matchup it is a
rematch of the October fourteenth showdown when the Kraken lost
all so close in sudden depth overtime five to four.
Two goals by Cole kaw Field took Montreal to two points.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
Sat evening and McCraken this evening, by the way, going
to be ending a.

Speaker 12 (08:19):
Pretty tough stretcher to begin this schedule, but also a
part of the best start in franchise history. The first
seven of eleven games the Kraken faced opponents from the
Eastern Conference. That of course ends this Saturday against the Rangers,
but the first eight of ten games that came against
teams who made the playoffs, and that ends here for
this evening. The Krakens so far taking twelve of a

(08:41):
possible eighteen points in that span. They're trying to improve
in a five three to one all time record and
split the head to head series with Montreal, and also
improved to a four and oh start to begin this
regular season schedule at home, all as part of a
matchup here that brings on some history. It goes back
to nineteen seven team with Seattle beating Montreal, of course,

(09:02):
to become the first US team to win the Stanley Cup.
As part of the Kraken, right now, they're trending north,
and of course this being homestand game number two of five,
they'll have the Rangers, Chicago and San Jose after this,
where so far they have allowed US four goals on
home ice, lowest in the NHL kracking up period. They're
going to go with the same line up here again

(09:23):
for this evening, and our storylines first up begin with a.

Speaker 1 (09:25):
Defensive impact in a tight game.

Speaker 12 (09:28):
They've allowed us two point seven goals a game that's
tied for tenth in the league. Rush chances, by the way,
at five on five have allowed us four all year period. However,
shot attempts at five on five fourth lowest in the league.
So can the krack and spend more time out of
their own zone? That's a big question in those numbers,
by the way. Courtesy naturalstat Trick dot com. Second storyline

(09:50):
Jordan Everley as goals in back to back games. He
scored two against Edmonton in the last Krack and win
over the Oilers this last Saturday, which was pretty much
a statement making game. He's now tied with Jaden Schwartz
with the team lead with eight points, and he'll play
on right wing with Matty Beniers and Bertlee Catton. And
our third story line is Everley's line may in Benier's

(10:11):
and the matchup here for this evening may be TBD
for him defensively, but he was fantastic against Edmonton and
handling Connor McDavid Vaneer's helping keep that line or McDavid
in particular scoreless. McDavid was zero points, minus one and
two of twelve as well in the faceoff circle, and
through nine games so far, Veneers was six points, that

(10:32):
marking the second best start of his career offensively and
the closest to that seven points first nine games win.
He won the Calder Trophy back in twenty twenty two
to twenty three, so Veneer's his impact this evening could
play a major role here for the Kracking fortunes. Let's
hear more from McCracken and a light week they have
right now coming off of previously six games and a
ten day road trip. But right now it's only just

(10:55):
one game in a span of six days, and Ryan
Lindgren said, it's a great chance here to catch up
with some practice time.

Speaker 5 (11:02):
Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 13 (11:03):
That just you know, go out there and you know,
make sure that our habits aren't slipping, and yeah, it's
always nice to have some practice time and look at
some video and you know, see what we can prove on.

Speaker 12 (11:14):
So how beneficial can it be where the krack and
are winning one goal games right now and playing in
those kind of close games like for instance last Saturday
when they beat Edmonton three to two. Well, Lynn Grin said,
it's right now about mastering the arts of those kind
of games. After the winning in Edmonton.

Speaker 13 (11:29):
You know, obviously on that on that trip we had
a couple of games that we were uplaid and they're
able to you know, come back and win the game.
So yeah, it was good to see last game that
we were you know, uplaid and able to hold on
to that and and get the win. And you know
those extra points are crucial and you know, especially EUR
only season, so yeah, it's good to see.

Speaker 12 (11:49):
And by the way, in one goal games this season
so far, the Crack and holding a record of three
to zero and two injury updates side right now Coppo Cocko,
Riker Evans, Freddy Goodrojarah McCann all on IR and then
Gold's going to be Joey Tocord this evening with a
record of five one and one, nine to one, five
say percentage Bilil Grubauer serving as his back up when

(12:11):
we come back. We'll take a look at Montreal after this.

The pregame show is served up by Frostproud Corps Line

Speaker 1 (14:39):
Let's take a.

Speaker 12 (14:40):
Look now at Montreal where again from last season, you
can tell they have a team that is right now
on the rise and a lot of young players on
their roster growing up pretty fast. Right now, they are
the youngest team in the NHL average age of twenty
five point seven years. Last year got the final wildcard
spot under head coach Martin San Lu which broke a

(15:01):
three year playoff drought. And about this year, it's about
taking that culture and setting it in place. Off to
a hot start right now seven and three and that's
tops in the Atlantic Division, and all this with no
Caiden Gooley or Patrick Lane as well. Their offense eight
best in the NHL, three point six goals a game.
Nick Suzuki, Cole Kafield, a couple names that Everett now

(15:21):
mentioned earlier. Sazuki right now top ten in point production.
He's got thirteen points in ten games and Coffield right
behind him ten points in nine games. He's tight for
fourth in the NHL, by the way, with seven goals.
About that young core, it includes Jerislavkovski, Ivan demadob Oliver Kapaden,
who's got some offense in a good two way play,

(15:42):
and a young defenseman who's maybe coming of age right
now in Lane Hudson the last year won the Calder
Trophy in Net. No stranger here to this core as
far as their potential, that's Yakup Dobsh starting this evening
tyer second right now in the NHL with a nine
to four to zero save percentage. Montreal coming off a
four to three win Vancouver and they're in for a
three to one road trip where on this trip they

(16:05):
have scored eleven goals combined, and the Kraken trying to
stop them in their tracks. Your storylines here from Montreal.
First off again with Nick Suzuki, who was on a
tear riding a nine game point streak. He's got thirteen
points in that spin and against the Kraken, owning nine
points in nine games. He's been tough to handle and
he's our top line center with Cole Koffield and your

(16:27):
Isslavkovsky on the wings second story line that special teams
and Montreal recently a little bit hot and cold on
the power play and penalty kills spectrum. Their power play
on the road ninth right now in the NHL has
six for twenty two, but the penalty kill they've allowed
three goals last eight chances, and also before they had
to go five for five against Calgary that was six

(16:49):
days ago, and the Kraken last time out back of
Bell's Center. There are one for four in the power
play and a perfect two for two on the penalty kill.
Let's are more from Montreal and head coach Marty san
Luis summed up is culture right here with about how
much it helps getting young kids getting settled in.

Speaker 15 (17:06):
I think we've been, you know, defining that, not necessarily
reinventing anything, but we spend a lot of time talking
about our culture, and you know, you can tell when
a young guy comes in that this transition is is
maybe easier, not that it's not hard, but I feel

(17:28):
it's easier because of the culture we have here with
the group, they just kind of fall right in and
I feel the continuity we've had, how we've built our
collective game. There's a lot of players that can help
the young guys and just coaching. You know, the coaching
just doesn't come from the coach all the time. You
know they're able to help them out. Hey, this is
how we do this, This is how we do that,

(17:48):
and I think our continuity has allowed us to be
in that position. But it all starts with culture and anything.

Speaker 12 (17:55):
So one of the crack I need to get a
split in this series ever, and now talk about that
next with R three keys. You're listening to the Global
Credit Union Crack, an audio network.

Speaker 4 (20:18):
Action cracking the second to last games on this jam
pack day around the National three two winners. On Saturday,
we're Seattle against Edmondton, trying to avenge a five to
four overtime loss.

Speaker 3 (20:30):
Two weeks ago.

Speaker 4 (20:31):
Tonight to the Canadians, how can they get it done?

Speaker 3 (20:34):
Well?

Speaker 6 (20:34):
First of all, they're gonna have to jump on them early.
The halves have been slow starters lately. You gotta hit
them early and hit them often. A fast cracking start
start puts Montreal on their heels and gets climate pitched,
rocking right from the puck drop.

Speaker 5 (20:47):
Secondly, own the corners.

Speaker 6 (20:49):
Montreal's smaller forwards don't love the grind win Those board
battles cycle hard and wear down their d with pressured shifts.
The more time spending their zone, the less you spend
chiefing Suzuki and golf. And then third, keep feeding the
death Seattle's biggest weapon is balanced. If the fourth line's
buzzing and the blue lines jumping in, the habs won't
know where the next wave's coming from. Every shift should

(21:12):
feel like deja vu in a bad way for Montreal.

Speaker 5 (21:14):
Like that dejavi ah.

Speaker 6 (21:17):
It's short, start fast, grind hard, and let the full
cracking buffet loose. When everyone's eating, Montreal be starving for answers.
If they can do that, Montreal is going to be
saying mess see while the crack and sail off with
two more points and match their franchise record for longest
home winning streak.

Speaker 5 (21:33):
It's becuys they're French. Yeah, I get it, missy.

Speaker 4 (21:36):
Yeah, I want to dive into that because I felt that.

Speaker 3 (21:39):
Second key was so crucial. We saw it with the
Edmonton Oilers. We saw it with the Winnipeg Jets.

Speaker 4 (21:45):
For Seattle the grinding down of their skill players. Obviously,
for the Oilers, Nujan Hopkins, Leon Drysidel got points. McDavid
was held without a shot attempt in that game, let
alone a points.

Speaker 3 (21:57):
Off the score seat no shot attempts.

Speaker 4 (21:59):
Talk to lay Lamber this morning about the game in Montreal,
he said that there were a few too many opportunities
for their skilled players. This is gonna have to be
one of those games where you lean on the lean
on Montreal for a period period and a half. They
might get frustrated early in this game and allow you
a chance in.

Speaker 6 (22:16):
I mean, maybe Vince Dunn could put another stiff arm
into Kolkaffielder sticks Azuki read at the start of the game.
But that certainly sends a tone early on. But the
way you grind with teams is you don't give them
odd man rushes, especially early in the game. You're clogging
up the neutral zone. You're making it hard for them
to enter the ozone and when they do, they got
to go through physical pressure to get there.

Speaker 5 (22:34):
That's how you grind down a team.

Speaker 4 (22:36):
As Mike Benton pointed out, only four odd man rushes
against all year against Seattle none in that Edmondson Whaler
game five on five. We talked a lot in the
last few games about to play the fourth line, but
it's been Jaydons Schwartz. It's been Jordan Eberley leading the
offense for the cracking as well. When you have guys
on the Montreal Canadiens Demidov, Kawfield, Zzuki, who can find

(22:57):
the back of the net.

Speaker 3 (22:58):
How much are you gonna be leaning on?

Speaker 4 (23:00):
You know, we talked about the physicality aspect of it,
but you need offense. Who needs to step up tonight
for the krack and to pot the puck?

Speaker 6 (23:07):
Well, I'm looking for one. Ellie Tolvenan, Yeah, get on
the board here tonight. And that's not a hit against
Elle Tovenu. We've seen him score many goals. I know
he's probably thinking in the back of the head, I
gotta get on the board. And sometimes you squeeze a
stick a little too much when you're there, and sometimes

Cracking three and oh so far at home this year
entering game two of the homestand Mike Betton with you
back at Climbing Pledge Arena. They take on Montreal in
about twelve minutes, and right now, here's head coach Lane
lamberst buying with ever fits you.

Speaker 4 (26:02):
Hey, thanks Mike. We're back with cracking head coach Lane
Lambert Lane. Back on home ice on Saturday, after a
very very long road trip, pick up the big win
three to two over the Edmonton Oilers.

Speaker 3 (26:13):
Take us back through that effort.

Speaker 4 (26:14):
A really grinding, hard effort for the Kraken that resulted
in two points.

Speaker 18 (26:20):
Yeah, I thought, uh, you know, I thought we I
thought we played pretty well at times. You know, I
was happy with our team in terms of our readiness.
There's always the question mark coming off of the long
road trip. What you know, what does the first game
look like? Back to me, that's just an excuse. I

(26:43):
thought our guys did a really good job of getting
rid of that excuse. Uh And you know, I mean,
as the game went along, they're they're obviously a talented
team Edmonton. I felt like we gave up a few
too many chances for my liking. But at the same time,
you know, we knew we would probably need a pretty
good game from our goaltender, and we got one, and

(27:06):
we had a lot of commitment in certain areas and
I thought, you know, when they had their push on,
I thought we defended well. There was you know, a
couple of pockets in the third period where we spent
a decent amount of time in our zone, but they
were they were to the outside. And there's going to

(27:26):
be moments like that with every team during the season
where you're maybe hemmed in or under siege in your zone,
and the question is how do you handle that? And
you know, what kind of chances would you give up?
So I thought we did a pretty good job of that,
and really at the end of the day, we really
capitalized on our opportunities, you know. So it was it

(27:50):
was a hard fought game, hard fought win.

Speaker 4 (27:52):
Speaking of playing in your defensive zone, you were asked
this morning about the number of chances giving up on
the outside, limiting the opportunities in the slot in the house.
Are you I don't want to say okay, but I'm
going to say okay.

Speaker 3 (28:05):
Are you okay with.

Speaker 4 (28:06):
You know, as long as you're on the outside, those
long range shots, if we spend a few extra minutes
in our d zone as long as we're keeping them
of the outside or is that an area that you
want to clean up and push them more out of
your zone?

Speaker 18 (28:18):
Well, I'd love to I'd love to push us more
out of our zone obviously, you know. So that's you know,
that's a focus for us, and and you know, certainly
an area that we need to get better in. But uh,
you know, conversely, when we are in there, our guys
are doing a good job of limiting I guess what
I would call high danger opportunities.

Speaker 1 (28:40):
That's that's Lane Lambert. Your lineups are next.
