After a much needed loll in the schedule, the Krackend
hit the road to begin a stretch of eleven games
in the next twenty days.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
Heading in to the holiday break on.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
Saturday afternoon, emotions were high between Seattle and the Edmonton Oilers,
who combined for fifty six minutes and penalties, with the
Oilers coming out victorious for nothing. Tonight, the Crack and
heading north for a quick trip over the border in
search of revenge against Edmonton before heading back home for
three in a row and five of their next six.
(00:54):
Good evening, Ladies and gentlemen, Welcome inside of Rogers Place

road Tonight, the Kraken and the Oilers in a Third
Jersey matchup. It's gonna look real nice in the pictures,
gonna look real nice on video. So happy to be
a part of this ub Kracking trying to get some
revenge from the Edmonton Oilers after a four to nothing
loss in uh Seattle on Saturday, and I think for
me it came down a special team Seattle.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
Oho for six on the power play, oh for two
on the penalty kill.
Speaker 4 (01:40):
Absolutely, you know you just can't go in opposite directions
on both your power play and your penalty kill, and
the Kracking did exactly that last Saturday night. They've gotta
be better tier tonight coming up against the same team.
But I think retribution has to feed in to the
game plan.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
And I've always been.
Speaker 3 (01:56):
A big believer of the team that gets blown out
in the first game of a home and home or
back to back, it's a lot easier for them to
make the adjustments, and I would almost favor them in
that situation. The crowd can know where they messed up,
they know where they have to improve, whereas if you're Edmonton,
you may have this.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
Sense of has if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
We just beat these guys for nothing.
Speaker 4 (02:16):
Yeah, And while the outcome might have been the dark
spot along with the special teams, there were some bright
spots up Berkeley Catton did not have his first goal,
brought his first breakaway, yes, head the face off for
better fifty six percent in the game, and Seattle match
Edmonton's shot for shot in the game twenty four each
at the end of the third period. So definitely, they
definitely know they can play with his teams, this team,
but they've got to get better on the special teams on.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
The other side of the red line.
Speaker 3 (02:39):
This Edmonton Oiler is five hundred over their last five games,
two to two and one in that time.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
This is now the.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
Third season in a row that they've started at around
just above just below five hundred.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
They've gone to the Stanley.
Speaker 3 (02:52):
Cup Final back to back years for the Edmonton Oilers
their last two Decembers, they are eighteen seven and one,
So this is around the time when they pick things
up and turn their game around.
Speaker 4 (03:01):
No hopefull They're gonna wait a couple more days before
they do that. But you know they keep this game here.
Tonight's gonna be the cracking end of the ice, which
is a part of their in their structure. That's the
way they play this game. They've got to keep the
goals against down. When this Edmonton team gets four or
more goals, they are twelve oh to oh against the cracking.
You keep them to three or less, they're one four oh.
So goals against is gonna be huge.
Speaker 3 (03:23):
Special teams could play the deciding factor in this game. Again.
We'll tell you more about that coming up. But first,
back to Seattle we go. Mike Benten standing by with

with you back from Network Central. The Kraken coming in
this evening eleven seven and six record at twenty eight points,
one point out of the cut line of the Western Conference,
and this road game is essentially a one off and
a busy schedule mostly at home, and they face Edmonton
right now eleven eleven and five twenty seven points. They
(07:03):
are entering game two of a five game homestand and
the Kraken looking to take their second win out of
three matchups against Edmonton, with the series all tied app
one apiece. Well, the Cracking had four days off, that's
all gone in the rear view of mirror, and it's
gonna get really busy, really fast. They have eleven games
next twenty days, sitting into the holiday break, and among
(07:24):
them it's up against Edmonton, Minnesota, the Kings twice, the
Colorado Avalanche, and the Anaheim Ducks all among that so
high impact games, the Kraken are trying to level up
here coming up on this part of the schedule. This
game is a rematch with a Krack and lost for
nothing to Edmonton. Leon dry sitle second period goal from
(07:45):
last Saturday broke open a tight game and familiar face
is getting on the scores sheet for Edmonton. Connor McDavid,
Leon Dry, Title, Zach Kaiman, Ryan NuGen Hopkins all scoring
while Stewart Skinner got a twenty six save shutout and
the Krack and Special teams looking for a bounce back
in the worst kind of way after going through a
rough day power play going zero for six, including a
(08:06):
first period two man advantage which fell short and a
penalty kill, giving up two power play goals on two chances,
plus some bad blood boiling also as well. Mason Marshman
ahead on Darnell Nurse late first period that angered the Oilers.
Marschmant had Nurse in his ear all day. Leon Dreysettle
took a run at marchmant elbowing penalty was the call.
(08:27):
Then third period two fights broke out, neither though with
Marchmant and Nurse and both players the latter given tim
the misconducts they were done. Marchman will not play tonight,
hasn't been practicing all week. Lane Lambert Saint recently he
is day to day undisclosed reason so the crack and
missing his physical presence along with Jayden Schwartz, who has
(08:48):
also been a thorn in the oiler's side for much
of his career. But after that game, four days off
here for the Kraken to rest or practice, and Jared
McCann said this week it was time well spent working
on offense with energy.
Speaker 9 (09:02):
I think we can obviously generate more offense, more shots
towards the that kind of make the goalie work a
little bit harder, and you know, get pucks back off
second opportunities, and you know, I feel like we're kind
of making vsy on teams right now, just kind of
want and done. Definitely got to be a better.
Speaker 6 (09:18):
Offensive and the reason for that the offense is still scuffling. Recently,
They've been held to three goals or less and nine
in the last eleven games. They have been shut out
into the last three. They've been backing on practice here
as a major factor for a turnaround this week. But
on the flip side, goaltending and defense has still been
pretty strong the Crack and allowing two point six goals
(09:38):
a game, though from that loss against Edmonton that slipped
them from set or from second to seventh best in
the NHL. The five on five goals allowed only thirty
six that is still best in the entire league, while
teams say percentage for the Crack in five on five
nine to three three that remains also tops in the NHL.
Another way to combat the drought as far as I
(10:00):
offense for the Kraken, well loosen things up and they
had a very entertaining and spirited small area games practice
this past week, and they also drafted two teams captain
by youngsters Shane Wright and Berkeley Catton, and Wright said
it helped the Kraken get back to a foundation of
their attitude, a little bit switch up on what we're
doing there for practice, you know, draft some teams and
(10:22):
just you know playing some games, having some fun and
you know, being competitive, and yeah, nice switch up here
and there.
Speaker 5 (10:27):
And it was fun today for sure.
Speaker 6 (10:28):
So the Crack and hope that can be a palad
cleanser leading us here into our storylines. And first off,
it is special teams. First off, can they stay out
of the box. Well, if not, the penalty killed needs
a boost. They have given up goals in ten of
the last twelve games, ranking next to last in the league.
Plus the power player trying to snap out of a
four game goal scoring draft, and they face Edmonton, who
(10:50):
has gone nine of their last nine on the PK.
Second storyline, impact on the blue line. First on Vince Done,
one more goal or an assist gives him three hundred
points for his NHL career. He's got thirteen points in
twenty five games against Edmonton's second most among the Kraken
active on the roster along with Brandon Montoural, so he
(11:11):
could be a factor for this one. Nobody's had more
goals among NHL defensemen in games coming off of three
days of rest or more, and this is the case
where Montour's had fourteen goals in that situation. So bottom line,
he and duncan chew up plenty of ice time and
that could be essentially a tool here to be effective.
Third storyline, the lineup shuffle Jared mccamn back in the
(11:34):
top line with Matty Beniers and Jordan Everley. Berkeley Catton
moving up now to the second line with Chandler Stevenson
and Elie Toulvenen plus Yanni Numan also back in was
out previously for the last five games. Looking like he'll
skate with Shane Wright and Koppo Kacko wil Your fourth
line plenty of jam Ty Cartier, Freddie Gaudreaux and Ryan
Winterton going left to right. Let's hear more on the
(11:56):
Kraken side and Berkeley. Catton made more big impressions last Saturday,
a threatening shot off the rush as part of his
arsenal plus a breakaway that will stop by Stewart Skinner. Nonetheless,
Jared McCann said he is seeing a lot of growth
out of Catton.
Speaker 9 (12:13):
You know, we're we're trying to take as much pressure
off of him as we possibly can. You know, we're
trying to Everybody in here is doing a great job
just kind of being there for him, whether it be
you know, on you know, the mental side of the

Now for a look at Edmonton where in December you're
trying to figure out right now is this real based
on last couple of games they played or are they
still sucking for skier? But typically this is a month
they turn it on. Last two years, they're eighteen seven
and one in December. That's tied for first in the
NHL as far as collective record with a Vegas Golden
(15:28):
Knights plus over the last two years one point two
toy seven goal differential average that is tops in the
entire league. But their matter is still under the hood
pretty alarming right now. Five on five goal ratio next
to last teams say percentage eight six eight that's last
five on five goals allowed, they rank last. Plus goal
(15:48):
differential minus fifteen that is fifth lowest in the entire NHL.
But are they tightening the screws a little bit more
As far as their last game, well, they only lost
of Minnesota one nothing back on Tuesday, so they've only
allowed one goal now over the last two games, where
previously they gave up thirty three over a span of seven.
Yet also they haven't allowed more than thirty shots last
(16:11):
three games in a row, plus penalty kill win two
of two where they have stopped the last nine of nine.
So essentially it's early no more here and perhaps the
Oilers trying to work with being a little more aggressive.
We have heard on the Ford check, yet that's going
to get put here to the test for this evening.
First off, your oiler story lines begin once again with
(16:31):
Connor McDavid and Leon dry Settle where the Kraken have
to keep them in check. McDavid has a point or
better in eleven to fourteen matchups against the Kracking, but
on the flip side, he has just scored two goals
last seven games. Dry sidle, he has worn the Cracking
out Here's thirty points lifetime against the Kraken. As Edmonton's
leader head to head, He's also got a seven game
(16:53):
point streak head ahead in this series. Yet those two
players going to start split up across two linescondcondly Calvin
Pickard Ednett and this could be the wild card. He's
been on a recent cold streak eight nine say percentage
in a six game span. Ye have bounce back. Previous
start a pretty good one against Tampa Bay back in
the twentieth of November, thirty three saves and a two
(17:16):
to one overtime loss. So this evening, what direction does
he take the Oilers in? We'll find out. But against
the Kraken three games he has an eight to eight
ozero say percentage head to head. Let's hear more from
Edmonton and Darnell Nurse said nothing to say on the
previous games altercations and put his focus today instead on
the belief of what Edmonton has to do this evening.
Speaker 14 (17:38):
Yeah, putting it all together obviously. You know, last time
we played the other, I think it was a good
defensive effort as well as you know, we were able
to degenerate offense and convert our opportunities. So it's putting
together each each and every night, and uh, you know
we're definitely capable of it.

revenge from Saturdays for nothing.
Speaker 1 (20:57):
Lost to the oilers al how can they do that?
Speaker 3 (20:59):
Tonight?
Speaker 4 (21:00):
Peeking at my keys all right. First of all, First
of all, goaltending supremacy the krack. You need joy to
coord to be the great equalizer tonight, calm, poise and
turning the oilers chances and do nothing more than wishful
thinking a couple of early denials and big stops and emits.
Some stars can throw a wrench into the whole oiler's
confidence machine, and some when the crease is locked down,
(21:21):
the rest of the ice suddenly feels a little more manageable. Secondly,
offensive assault Seattle has to create offense and waves constant motion,
smart support and pucks constantly funnel to dangerous areas like
rush hour at a toll booth. Edmonton hates defending extended
its own time, and the kracking can break them by
forcing long second period shift shifts and sustained chaos. The
(21:42):
more rubber thrown on net, the better the odds something
bounces in off a skate, a shin pad, or pure stubbornness.
And then, third, let retribution fuel your game. The krack
you need to tap into some old fashioned retribution. Play harder,
skate faster, win every puck battle like they're settling debts
from last game. No need for ma'am. Just make the
(22:03):
Oiders feel consequences on every single play. When Seattle channels
that controlled fire and targeted rage, it turns the cracket
into a team opponent's regret regret poking. So to sum
it all up, lock the door in the blue, pain
barry Edmonton under an avalanche of pucks, and fuel the
entire evening with that satisfying energy of payback done the
(22:25):
right way. Follow that plan and the orders will be
wondering why the Crackers are playing like a team possessed.
If Seattle sticks to those three pillars, they won't just win,
they'll redefine the word statement and head back to Seattle
with the kind of smile on their face only two
points can deliver.
Speaker 1 (22:40):
And listen, we've.
Speaker 3 (22:41):
Talked so much about special teams it bears repeating.
Speaker 1 (22:44):
I'm gonna say that.
Speaker 3 (22:45):
I'm gonna say the stats now because we're not in
the game, so I.
Speaker 1 (22:49):
Can't jig stunt the.
Speaker 3 (22:51):
Four game power play gold drought over the last fifteen
oh for eleven combined the last two games, cracking three
for twenty nine in their last ten.
Speaker 1 (22:59):
On the Peak, They've allowed power play.
Speaker 3 (23:01):
Goals in ten of their last twelve, going twenty three
for thirty four in that stretch. We're gonna hear from
Lane Lambert here momentarily. Something's gotta give here tonight for Seattle.
Speaker 4 (23:10):
Yeah, something's gotta give. And as far as stats, you
don't want to talk about in a game, Leon Dreistos
averaging over two points a game versus Seattle, So you know,
we all talk about ninety seven all the time. Connor McDavid,
you got to keep an eye on twenty nine as well.
Speaker 3 (23:22):
And for reference, for the Oilers, they are twenty two
of their last twenty eight on the penalty kill. They
have allowed six power play goals their last ten, but
their PP has struggled as of late, only four for
twenty on the power play of their last eleven games.
Speaker 1 (23:35):
The Kraken here.
Speaker 3 (23:35):
Tonight begin an eleven game in twelve in a twenty
day stretch going into the holiday break, and of those eleven,
seven of them are against teams above them in the standing.
So I mean, for my money, we're entering the most
crucial part of this first half schedule for Seattle.
Speaker 4 (23:52):
Yeah, I mean again, I always talk about the schedule
in chunks. These eleven games, that's the next chunk of
schedule heading up to the holiday break, and you know,
you can look at the teams and say, well, who's beatable,
who's not. I just look at it from the standpoint
of what do you want to come away with? In points?
You're not gonna go you know, perfect in eleven games,
it's twenty points, but maybe you're fifteen, Yeah, maybe you're fourteen,
(24:15):
fifteen somewhere in there. I think that's a reasonable expectation.
And you do that, you continue to be in that
playoff hunt.
Speaker 3 (24:22):
And real quick we touched on that part as well,
but also looking forward, you're just now getting healthy. Jared
mccannon's back, Copolcaca was back, but then you put Jayden
Schwartz on the shelf. Not a lot of practice time
coming up for the cracket in the next twenty days
going into the holiday break. What's gonna be the biggest
X factor for Seattle in these next three weeks?
Speaker 4 (24:42):
I mean, the X factor that could be out there
is this shuffling of the lions and if maybe you've
turned the dials just right on the offensive safe where
the door pops open and all of a sudden you're
getting goals from guys like Berkeley Catten Tolvenan's starting to
get into a rhythm where he's coppol Cockle starts fill
in the back of the that. If that happens, you've
(25:03):
got the lock on the lines and you roll with
that until it doesn't work anymore. Speaking of X factor,
big fact, Who.

Member e FDI see Equal Housing Lender Mike Benton with
you back at Network Central. Let's go back right now
to Edmonton head coach Lane Lambert standing by with everet
(27:41):
fits you.
Speaker 3 (27:41):
Thanks Mike here with Lane Lambert Lane. Following a four
nothing loss to Edmonton back on Saturday, you get the
same team here again tonight. What's the process of going
through that game? Is it one of those things where
you flush it? Do you look back and say, we
can take one or two things away from it? Do
you do a deep dive into Saturday's game? What's the
process of moving on from that one and preparing for
(28:04):
the Oilers for a second time in a row.
Speaker 19 (28:05):
Yeah, that's a good question. You do a deep dive
and you don't overthink it because there's certain situations that
if you just you know, win a one on one battle,
then you know A doesn't lead to B to C
two D and all of a sudden you're in your
zone for seven and a half minutes in the game,
you know, so you take a little bit of consideration
(28:27):
of that, but you do you do a deep dive.
There's certain adjustments that I think we can make, you know,
and do a better job on some of the things
that we were supposed.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
To do good we didn't, So we just have to
be better. To me and we talk a lot about
special teams, the power play of the PK recently. When
you're seeing struggles on those units, what are the things
that you can do to try and foster chemistry to
have more success. Is it as simple as just more
practice time trying to force that proverbial square peg into
(28:59):
the round hole or is there more that you can
you can do and you want to see from this.
Speaker 20 (29:03):
Group, Well, look at I think that you know, there's
no question the practice time is going to help out.
There's no question that film is going to help out.
But it's also a matter of our guys executing what
you know, what.
Speaker 6 (29:17):
Needs to and the crack and hope that execution comes
into play after practice. As a coach, Lane Lambert, stay
tuned your lineup, Starry. Next, you're listening to the Global
