Speaker 3 (00:21):
It was another frustrating outing for the Seattle Kraken Thursday
in Calgary, as the Kraken fell for the tenth time
in their last eleven games. It was a promising start
for Seattle, who took a two to one lead into
the third, back by Chandlers Stevenson's third goal in as
many games and Coppocaco's second of the season. The Flames
turned up the heat, firing fourteen shots on goal and

(00:43):
lighting the lamp three times in the third.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
On their way to a four to two win.

Speaker 3 (00:48):
Tonight, following a holiday roster freeze move, Seattle heads to
the Bay Area to take on a San Jose Sharks
team who have won four of their last six games
and are currently seven points ahead of the Seattle Kraken
for the final wildcard spot in the West. Good evening,
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome inside of SAP Center at San Jose.

(01:08):
Alongside al Kiniski, I am everat Fitziu. This is Seattle
Crack and Hockey on the Global Credit Union Cracking Audio Network.
You are listening to the pregame show served up by
Frost Brew Corps Light Choose Chill Al Following the loss
on Thursday of the Crack and making a major roster
move yesterday trading forward Mason Marshmip to the Columbus Blue
Jackets in exchange for a second round pick in twenty

(01:30):
twenty seven and a fourth round pick in this coming
year's draft twenty twenty six.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
For Mason Marshmoth, a player that never.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
Was really able to find his footing in his stride
here with Seattle.

Speaker 4 (01:42):
Now he's been given a fresh opportunity in Columbus. Yeah,
I mean he's moved around the line up quite a
bit in different areas. Let the power play time as well.
And you know, other than the game where he got
two goals, he just had a real hard time getting
some consistent flow.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
Twenty nine games for the Crack in four goals in
nine as sists for Mason Marshmoth in that time for
the kracking Thursday of four to two loss to the
Calgary Flames, and the Kraken after a two to one
lead after the third period, as has been the trend
in recent games, the Kraken losing it in the third
period three goals allowed, including an empty net or in
the third the Kraken have been outscored twenty ea to

(02:17):
five on their current nine to one stretch in the
third periods.

Speaker 4 (02:22):
Absolutely, you know that third period league grabbing the first
goal the game was big as well. The Kraken able
to do that. Their power play went one for four,
the penalty kill stopped three of four, so things working
well on the special teams.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
It's the even strength, Yeah, that was the challenge.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
Cracking twelve even strength goals in the month of December,
that is second fewest in the NHL. However, their eight
power play goals leading the NHL.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
In the month of December.

Speaker 4 (02:47):
Yeah, I mean, this is an area that has to
be addressed. And you know, you ask, well, how can
you score more on on the power play? There are
there are personnel issues, there's movement, honey, score more five
on five. You just got to win more puck battles
and go.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
To the net with the puck on the other side
of the red line.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
The San Jose Sharks a team that has made no
secret and no bones about their rebuild over the past
couple of years, but now you're seeing those dividends start
to pay off. Currently holding down the second and final
wildcard spot in the Pacific Division, they are fifth or
in the Western Conference rather fifth in the Pacific and
Maclinze Labrini a huge reason for that. He has accounted

(03:23):
for over half fifty point five percent of the offense
this year for San Jose one hundred and four goals
for them.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
He has been a part of fifty three of those goals.

Speaker 4 (03:33):
Yeah, I mean fifteen of those points have come on
the power play, so it's not all power play activity
for him with all.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
Of those goals.

Speaker 4 (03:39):
He's playing with Colin Graff, an undrafted player on the
left wing, and Igor Turnershov who's only played two games,
so it's not like you said, the same wingers all
season along. He's a guy that can get it done
regardless of the personnel on either side of them.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
Cracking and trying to win the season series over the
San Jose Sharks. They've split both games, in Seattle. This
will be the finale of the three season series coming
up here tonight, back in Seattle. Mike Benson is standing

Hockey Live on the Global Credit Union Kraken Audio Network
from SAP Center of San Jose, the Seattle Cracking take
on the San Jose Sharks, and we are about thirty

(06:57):
one minutes away from puck drop in San Jose. And
you know what else is just thirty minutes so way, Well,
that would be snow Qualme Casino and hotel.

Speaker 6 (07:05):
Visit Seattle's close to sportsbook and bet three ways on
the Kraken ticket windows on psychiosk or my favorite, the
snow Qualme Casino mobile app. Mike betting with you back
in Network Central. Well, the Kraken trying to break out
of their eleven game skid right now, just one win
in that span. They stand twelve to fourteen and six
thirty points right now, and unfortunately nobody behind them right

(07:27):
now in the West, as they stand seven points out
of the cut line entering today. This is game two
of the four game trip and they're facing San Jose
for one last time, the Sharks coming in seventeen fifteen
and three, holding the last wild card spot at thirty
seven points. They have won four of their last six.
Will you figure eventually something's going to break up this slide?

(07:49):
The Crack in one nine and one in that recent stretch,
as we said, But could a jolt on the roster
do the trick? As ever written now mentioned last night
Mason Marshman delta columb shortly before the holiday roster freeze
and the Cracking getting two picks back, including a second
rounder in twenty twenty seven. So the implications the Crack
can get more draft capital and if the trade could

(08:10):
be in the works here sooner than later, there's more
cap space also to work with Columbus taken on all
of Marchman's salary and in the Cracking cupboard right now
five draft picks in the first round next three drafts,
ten draft picks first two rounds next three drafts as well.
The roster freeze again in effect until a week from tomorrow,

(08:33):
so which means no trades, no waivers, no loans, but
teams can make emergency recalls and also places players on
IR so the Kraken finding a way to strike shortly
before the bell and shake things up here on their roster.
You also can't blend them a Thursday, they felt pretty
downcast despite a four to two loss in Calgary. But
yet we're told morning Skate today the Krake in turning

(08:55):
a bit of a one point eighty here as far
as their mood, and they're trying to bounce back from
a four to two loss in Calgary where the Cracking
were rolling in the penalty kill, but then two penalties
in the span of two thirty three spun the game
out of control. Nazem Kadri, Matt Coronado, Michael Backlin scoring
three unanswered goals to a Crack and team missing Jerre McCann,

(09:17):
Jaden Schwartz and Brandon Montur who are all out of
the lineup, and that night nineteen goals combined the Crack
and we're missing right now seventy nine goals total, so
a big chunk missing with those trio on the shelf.
But the Cracking right now doing a few good things
under the hood twice. They have now left last two
games after two periods led by the way, we should say,

(09:37):
against Calgary and Colorado. So you figure you clean things
up in period three, you might be on a better
path right now. Also in shot volume, the Kraken eight
of the last nine games fit sixty shot attempts or
more and special teams the power play. They've scored a
goal now three straight games, also five of the last
six and in total eight power play goals last eight games,

(09:58):
ranking tied for fifth the league in that span. So ultimately,
can the Crack can be opportunistic while minding put control
and penalties in period three?

Speaker 1 (10:08):
Crack and story.

Speaker 6 (10:09):
Lines first up begin with Coppocco up this evening with
Maddy Beniers and Jordan every and Cocko playing with Paneers
for the first time, says November eleventh. A goal or
an assist means his first three game pointstreak of this
entire season. He scored, of course two nights ago. Beniers
meanwhile trying to get out of a four game goal
scoring drought he needs to assist to reach one hundred

(10:31):
in his NHL career, and Jordan Neberley, now with points
in six of the last eight games. Secondly, this guy
right here on an offensive run hold it in front.

Speaker 1 (10:42):
Sdavid said, what a goal. He star.

Speaker 3 (10:48):
Points in seven straight goals in back to back games
for Stevie Luonder.

Speaker 1 (10:54):
It's a one nothing Seattle lead, twelve to eight to
play in the second well Cockery try to get the
home run pass up the middle.

Speaker 4 (11:01):
It's picked off, I believe by Jimmy Alexiak, who then
fed it over to Stevenson down that left side, and Stevenson.

Speaker 1 (11:08):
Makes a great move on Dustin Wolf, putting his team
up one nothing. Chandler.

Speaker 6 (11:12):
Stevenson's got a seven game points streak entering this one
with seven points as well in that span. A goal
or an assist would give him a new career best
eight game points streak. Also, he's got goals in three
consecutive games. Our third story line Joey Decord. He's back
in net tonight and he earned it despite the loss
in Calgary, making forty two saves, matching a career high,

(11:33):
and against San Jose he's three and four in seven games,
eight eight nine save percentage, and he's aiming for his
first road win since the twentieth of November at Chicago.
Let's hear more from the Kraken and back here to
the third periods. Jordan Neverie, the cracking captain, said, details
certainly matter with getting results back on track.

Speaker 9 (11:52):
Obviously, we've lost nine our last ten. I think I
look at all of them. I think we've been tighter
leading third period.

Speaker 4 (12:00):
I think six of them.

Speaker 9 (12:02):
You know, I think it just comes down to the
little plays, whether it's p k's or wall plays or
decisions at the blue line, that has costed us games
and goals. I think I look early in the year,
you know, we were detailed and we were doing the
right things, and we're on the other side of that
right now we're not. So we got to figure out
I mean, the recipes there. We know what we have
to do to get on the other side of that.
It's just a matter of doing it. There's lots of

(12:22):
season off. You look at the standings, you know we
have games in hand, but at the end of the day,
we have to we have to find a way to
There's no more moral victories. We got to find a
way to get a win.

Speaker 6 (12:29):
Eberally even got of the part that he talks about
a lot, and it's about how details matter in the
scope of close games.

Speaker 9 (12:36):
I've said this a million times that the line between
winning and losing and it's it's so it's so close,
and you know, obviously we're right there, but it to
become a winning team and consistently you have to play
the right way all the time and not ninety percent
of the time, and especially in the team when we're
over super you know, struggling and put the buck in
the back of that and take over games. You know
you're going to be in every match. And that's kind

(12:56):
of what we started with the identity at the start
of the years. We wanted to make sure teams new
they were in a game, and we've done that for
the most part, and we just got to find ourselves the.

Speaker 3 (13:02):
Other end of it.

Speaker 6 (13:03):
Verily then talked about how much is new line made
for tonight coup Ocaco can make a big difference with
the strength and the hands that Coco's got now working
with him and Beneers.

Speaker 9 (13:13):
You know, he's starting to find his game a little
bit too. Obviously, I've I've had injuries in camp and
it's never easy to come back and he's starting to
find it now, which is great. So you know, just
trying to find some consistency as far as up and
down the lineup. We've always been a team that relied
on you know, all three four lives contributing, and we
can get back to.

Speaker 6 (13:32):
That couple lineup notes here looks like Brandon Monturs out
again this evening and with Mason Marchman moving on, Ryan
Winterton is back in. We'll come back in a bit
and take a look at San Jose after this. You're

the Kraken and Sharks. That's brought to you by the
Evergreen Council on Problem Gambling and Your Odds or courtesy BENMGM.
The line with San Jose at minus one twenty and
the over under is six. The pre game show is
served up by Frostbrewed Corps, Light, Choose, Chill, Mike Benton

(16:08):
with you back in Network Central and time now for
a look at San Jose. A young team, a skilled
team and growing rapidly, of course, led by Macklin, Celebrini,
Will Smith, William Ecklund and more of this young crew.
But Smith's hurt got hurt last week at Pittsburgh, appeared
to have an upper body ailment. The Celebrini right now,
showing that he's arrived third right now in NHL is

(16:29):
scoring after their last game against Dallas fifty three points.
By the way, he's got heading into this one, only
two others in Shark's history have gotten to fifth to
fifty points before the holiday break. That's Joe Thornton sixteen
years ago and Owen Nolan twenty six years ago, So
it's getting close to the future. Is now territory here
for San Jose as they occupy last spot in the

(16:51):
Western Conference for the wild card slots. They have won
four of six and since beginning the year four and two,
they are seventeen eleven and one on closing out a
three game home stand this evening. Last game they lost
five to three though to Dallas, and two big reasons.
First off, slow start. Dallas got a two to nothing
lead after one period in the Sharks power play, coming

(17:11):
up empty zero for three on the night, as it
will be Yaroslav Askarov the net here for this evening
for San Jose career against the Kraken one and one
eight seven eight say percentage, So we'll see if the
Kraken can find holes in his game this evening. Shark
story lines first off, begin with keeping a defensive win
on maclin Celabrini. That's a tough ass because he's got

(17:32):
a three game multi point streak heading into this one.
Overall four game points Treek ten points in total, he
is already a handful at his young age of nineteen. Secondly,
is handling San Jose's penalty kill. The Sharks take more
penalties than most one hunter and twenty this season. That's
tenth most in the NHL with a PK though keeping

(17:52):
things afloat eight, best in the league since the first
of November sixty five of seventy seven in that span.
So the Kraken could potentially get looks and a challenger
to capitalize could certainly make a big difference if they
can answer that challenge. Let's sayre more from San Jose
and their head coach Ryan Worzowski, who said speed matters
for his team in a game like this.

Speaker 4 (18:14):
I think our team speed.

Speaker 12 (18:15):
I think when we play quick, yeah, you know, coming
out of our own end and then through the neutral
zone when we play fast. We've seen that here lately too.
We can get on teams and I think we did
a good job of that when we've played them, even
one with the second one there we lost. We had
moments in the second period where we got our transition going,
So that would be a big key tonight. And slowan down.
They're a rush team. They can get on the rush.

(18:37):
They can they can go, So we got to make
sure where where we get numbers.

Speaker 6 (18:41):
Back Among your lineup notes, Ethan Cardwell is out veteran
Jeff Skinner is in and Timothy Lil Chagrin was hurting
morning skate today he's out. Vincent iiO will step in,
Everett and now have your three keys. After this, you're

We're back inside of the SAP Center at San Jose.

Speaker 3 (21:13):
Everett fits you al Kiniski alongside Crappin Krack in Game
two of this four game road trip through the Pacific Division.
Big trade last night, the Kraken sending Mason Marshmis to
Columbus for a second round pick and a fourth round
pick in the next two drafts. Seattle nine and one
in their last eleven partner trying to get off this
Schneid a big opportunity here tonight to take down the

(21:36):
Sharks who currently.

Speaker 1 (21:37):
Sit in that second and final wildcard spot. Tell us
what they have to do to get it done, partner well.

Speaker 4 (21:43):
First of all, discipline without losing the edge. I thought
the Kraken tip took too many penalties the last couple
of games. Road games test your patience, and the Sharks
would love nothing more than a parade to the penalty box.
The Kraken need to play hard, finish checks and keep
the whistles out of it. Be mean, not messy, be ruthless,
not reckless, no free plays, no self inflicted wounds. Secondly,

(22:05):
lock down celebrainy Macklin. Celebriny is electric, slippery and dangerous.
If you give him time and space, the krack and
have to close fast, angle smart, and make every touch
feel like he's working through Christmas Eve, mal traffic, make
him earn every inch will turn his skill into frustration.
And then third, grease, grit and garbage goals. Santose's net

(22:27):
front needs to feel crowded, uncomfortable and downright rude. Puck's
body sticks, everything goes to the crease. Road winds are
built on ugly goals, and tonight is not the night
for highlight, real vanity projects. In some stay disciplined, suffocate
the shark's young star and turn the crease into a
WWE royl rumble. Take penalties and you're chasing, giving celebrating

(22:50):
space and your toast. But if the cracking play smart,
heavy and greasy, the shark tank turns into a splash pool,
tentacles up, elbows in, let's flip the food chain.

Speaker 3 (23:01):
So for Seattle anytime, and for any team really partner,
anytime you make a trade and you ship a guy out,
regardless of their performance, regardless of what.

Speaker 1 (23:09):
They did, it's going to affect the roster.

Speaker 3 (23:12):
And when you lose a guy like Mason marshmat who
was in so many high level situations, your first power player,
top line most nights, how can that affect a room?
And then that next man up mentality? How much more
important does that become?

Speaker 4 (23:26):
Yeah, I mean it depends every guy's different, you know,
it depends on their relationship you had with Mason, It
depends on the impact he had on you personally, professionally
on your line. Maybe you might be missing that, but
it also presents an opportunity as you said powerplay opportunity.
He was one of the flanks on the first power
play unit, so I'm guessing Tovenen moves into that spot
leaves an open spot for that second power play unit.

(23:47):
I'm guessing we're gonna see Yannie Newman more on that
second power play.

Speaker 1 (23:50):
I look forward to seeing that shot.

Speaker 4 (23:51):
So it presents opportunities for guys to get more either
just general even strength ice time or special teams ice.

Speaker 1 (23:58):
Fend based online rushes.

Speaker 3 (24:00):
This morning, Kapolo Kaka will move up to the top
the left wing spot on that top line, so he
will skate tonight with Matty Beneers and Jordan every Ryan
Winterton comes back into the lineup, he'll be on the
third line on that right hand side. After the game
against Calgary two nights ago, Lane Lambert obviously frustrated a
number of players that have been frustrated as well.

Speaker 1 (24:20):
For the Seattle Kraken.

Speaker 3 (24:21):
They've played in six consecutive what I'll call quote unquote
one goal games.

Speaker 1 (24:25):
They beat La by a four to three score in overtime.

Speaker 3 (24:29):
Their other five losses have all come with empty net
goals against. So for all intents and purposes, the Kracking
are losing one goal games and they're in it to
the third period. On this current eleven game stretch, they've
been outscored twenty to five in third periods. How can
they hold onto these leads and push this thing over
the finish line.

Speaker 4 (24:49):
I mean, it sounds silly, but it's score more. You've
got to find a way to lot games now, not
just by holding on to that one goal lead, by
going and getting that two goal lead, Not in the
last a couple of minutes of that third period.

Speaker 1 (25:00):
Go ahead and get it in the first five of that.

Speaker 4 (25:01):
Third period, because as soon as you do that, it
sends a message across the other teams they're not coming
back into this one. You get that second, when you
get that third one, you make a three to two
game into a five to two game. All of a sudden,
the other team, you know, lowers the tenths and they
get ready for heading out of town. So you've got
to get that next lead on the goal and make
a one goal game into a two or a three
goal game.

Speaker 1 (25:21):

Speaker 3 (28:13):
Thanks Mike Lane after that for two loss in Calgary
today to go saying that you weren't too happy with
the performance, Just take us back through that game and
were you thought the differences were between the loss against
Colorado at home and then against Calgary two days later.

Speaker 18 (28:27):
I thought we played much faster and much more direct
against Colorado than we did against Calgary. You know, we
were too slow to move pucks at times. Student for
his own I didn't establish the same for check pressure
that we had against Colorado. So you know, it's getting

(28:48):
back to a consistent mindset that we have to attack him,
be on our toes and force teams into you know,
making mistakes, which we did against Colorado.

Speaker 3 (28:57):
Is there something you can point to, particularly about the
the style of both opponents that caused the Kraken to
play a little differently between Colorado and Calgary.

Speaker 18 (29:05):
No, I don't think so. I think it was just
more on us than anything. You know, we have to
be prepared to do the same things over and over
again on a consistent basis, and that's where we're you know,
having trouble right now. And that's what happens when you
get into a situation where you haven't won many games.

(29:25):
Is there's a reason for it. Inconsistency is one of them.

Speaker 3 (29:29):
