a goal in mind to make amend from two nights
ago in the first period and transfer energy from the
third period.

I hope you got your bags back here for this
next long road trip coming up here.

Speaker 3 (01:17):
But first things first.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
A pretty tough matchup coming up here out of the
Eastern Conference, the Cracking gott reseet from two nights ago.
The Edmonton Oilers came in and things looked bleaked very early.
They eventually rallied to nearly tie this thing and here
we are thinking cardiac cracking once again. But the first
several minutes were unfortunately too much and the Kraken looking
for more of what they had in period three rather

(01:41):
than a tough starting period one.

Speaker 4 (01:42):
Yeah, Mike, bit of a slow start for the Kracking
on Saturday night, allowing those two goals by admitting to
put them in a bit of a hole. They battle
hard in the second and third We saw that to
proverbial pushing the third period to try and get back
into it, but not enough and into the game four
two for Edmpton.

Speaker 3 (01:58):
Let's talk about the krack in here.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
A win this evening means a two to one in
one home standers will efficiently be halfway done with the
regular season after this game and won't see how.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
Much of one of their top six lines can make
an impact now.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
Jayden Schwartz Matt Evenier's Copo Coco have looked great since
being put together, and Schwartz, now with six points in
four games, sends the break.

Speaker 3 (02:18):
Coco with three assists in his last four and Veneers
with four points in that span.

Speaker 5 (02:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:22):
Absolutely, the parts of the offense that you wanted to
get going are going now. The parts that we're going
to have fallen off a little bit. Jared McCann, last
time he scored a goal that was not an empty
net or it was November thirtieth against Santose sixteen games ago.
The third line of Tolvenen right in.

Speaker 3 (02:37):
Mc cann nine games without a goal.

Speaker 4 (02:39):
They do have twelve assists together, but I need to
see those guys scoring here tonight.

Speaker 3 (02:43):
Let's get our first look at New Jersey.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
They're gonna show up with a similar test on paper,
just like two evenings ago. A lot of skill, a
lot of finish you throw in Jack Hughes, Timo Meyer,
Nico he Shirt, Jasper Bratt.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
That is a tough battle ahead of the devils on a.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
Road trip that is gone is as smooth as a
gravel drive away. They have lost four in a row
and come off a three to two loss at San
Jose two days ago.

Speaker 4 (03:05):
Yeah, absolutely, Carolina, Anaheim, La San Jose, working their way
up the coast. A three to two loss on Saturday
to San Jose. They two saw loss in their most
recent game, which means they're coming in here to get
things right.

Speaker 2 (03:16):

Kiosks or the snow Kwalmi Casino mobile app. Crack can
come into this game seventeen to twenty and three, which
is good for seventh in the Pacific Division six point
six points off the final wildcard spot. New Jersey Devils
come in at twenty four fifteen to three second in
the Metropolitan Division. Odds by bet MGM. New Jersey are

(07:04):
favored by one and a half and the over under
is six. Well, let's head back to Saturday afternoon where
the Kraken, after going down three zero early to the
Edmonton Oilers, attempted to mount yet another comeback near.

Speaker 3 (07:16):
Circle cop well back on shoot, turn away.

Speaker 13 (07:18):
Palm rebound, a vents turn a side shorts hit the
left circle done, broke is shot, the broke stick off,
the shot picker, the save, shorts, the.

Speaker 3 (07:33):
Clean up in the cracket.

Speaker 15 (07:35):
Down a goal, It's three to two, twelve thirty three
to playing the third.

Speaker 14 (07:40):
Unfortunately, it would come up just short as Seattle would
fall yet again to their Pacific Division foe, falling to
two nine and one all time against the Edmonton Oilers
as they just can't seem to crack the code of McDavid,
dry Sidle and company. That loss would finish off a
one to one in one week, which doesn't spell doom,
but with the team behind the eight ball in the
playoff race, the Kraken need to do more than just

(08:03):
tread water if they want to make some noise in
the postseason hunt. Still, there are encouraging signs. Maddy Beniers
has turned it on as of late, with five points
in his last five, including three goals, with the help
of new line made and mid season acquisition Capo Kaco.
The play of Philip Grubauer has completely turned around. He
kept Seattle in the game on Saturday against the Oilers

(08:24):
with some amazing saves, one on a breakaway against the
world's best player.

Speaker 3 (08:29):
Connor McDavid.

Speaker 14 (08:30):
Jane Schwartz is hot, Vince Dunn is back to his
near point per game self and more so still reasons
to be excited, but points are at a premium at
this point in the season. The Krack can now focus
their attention to the high flying New Jersey Devils, so
it doesn't get any easier tonight with Jack Who's Yes,
per Brat, Nico Heischer, Timo Meyer, and Moore coming to
town for their first and only visit to Climate Pledgerina

(08:53):
this season. Today's matchup is the second of two against
New Jersey this season for the Kraken. Their first meeting
was in New Jersey just over a month ago, a
three to two. Devils win with goals from Andre Burakowski
and Shane Wright and the game winning goal for the
Devils from Timo Meyer. Jacob Markstrom looks like he gets
the start tonight for the Devils against Philip Grubauer. Krackin

(09:14):
are three to six and one in the last ten.
Devils are five to five and zero, but they have
dropped their last four. Let's take a look at our
Cracking storylines here today, and the first one is can
Grubauer continue his hot play against another high scoring team tonight.
A big game from him last time out against Edmonton
with some huge saves at two zero to keep the
Cracking within striking distance against a very good offensive team.

(09:38):
Didn't come out with the win, but he is holding
up his end of the bargain by giving the team
a chance to win every single night, and with Joy
Decord being out since December twenty second, there were real
questions on how Gruby would fare as the main guy,
and he has done what he can to keep this
team in the hunt. His last four games, two wins,
an eight to eight to six save percentage and a
three point zero zero goal against average. Another tough opponent tonight,

(10:02):
New Jersey eleventh in goals for per game at three
point one to nine, second in power play percentage at
twenty eight point nine percent. Gruby needs to bail out
the offense more, but can Jared McCann get going. Kra
Can need their former forty goal scorer to get hot again.
He has just two points in his last nine games,

(10:23):
and both of those are empty net goals. Just seems
like they can't offensively put it all together. As Matti
Venier's Jayans Schwartz have warmed up, but that has also
coincided with Jared McCann and Andre Burakowski cooling off. You're
going to go through ebbs and flows throughout a season,
but with an offense that relies on depth scoring, having
one of your best point getters go through a cold

(10:44):
streak like this one from nineteen is tough to accommodate
throughout the lineup. Another thing that doesn't help defensive breakdowns.
First two goals on Saturday we're a good example of
ways the Kraken need to avoid giving away opponents opportunities
to high powered offenses. NHL teams, especially Tonight's opponents, have

(11:04):
too much talent to be giving more opportunities than they
already create on their own. Goubauer's done a commendable job
bailing his teammate team out on multiple occasions lately, but
head coach Dan Bilsma can't be thrilled with how the
Crack and have been lately with the puck, especially in
their own zone. Let's hear Morris Cracking forward Matty Beniers

(11:25):
talks about the halfway point of the year and his
evaluations on where the team is at in game forty
one of eighty two.

Speaker 12 (11:32):
I think we all know where we're at, and you know,
we want to be a lot better. So, you know,
I think it's just creating momentum and you know, putting
putting together full sixties, taking it one game at a
time and just try to trying to get.

Speaker 14 (11:46):
W's winning cures everything. And Mattiveniers is on that same
track as the Crack can hope to find that cure
on a more regular basis throughout the second half of
this season. So we go from a more macro view
on this season to what it will look like in
game number forty one tonight, as Matti Beneer's also talks
about what it will take to beat the New Jersey
Evels this evening.

Speaker 12 (12:05):
They're a really skilled team, so I think you gotta
get on get on their top guys, and you know,
play playing the offensive zone. And obviously you want to
if you want to be down there, you want to
make them play defense. You want to mitigate their their
rush offense. Just that's where they get a lot of
their their chances. So you know, I think that's the
focus for the night and playing hard, playing down low,

(12:27):
and you know, playing our spinks.

Speaker 14 (12:30):
Looking like it will be Philip Grubauer patrolling the crease
once again for the Kraken As mentioned earlier, his last
four starts, two wins, an eight eight to six say
percentage and a three point zero goal against average.

Speaker 3 (12:41):
Time.

Speaker 14 (12:42):
Now for the injury update courtesy of zoom Care beyond
Better Healthcare. Jordan Eberley, the captain, is on lt IR
after going undergoing pelvic surgery in November. Joey Decord was
placed on IR earlier today, but that was retroactive earlier
this week, so that doesn't seem to affect his timeline
for return. However, Yannie Gored has also been placed on IR.

The earliest he can return is January twelfth in Detroit
against the Red Wings. Ever heard of zoom Care? If

(16:04):
Shoes Chill, I'm Anderson Hurst. Time now for a look
at the New Jersey Devils, a team with high expectations
and a loaded roster to start the year hot, but
have recently hit a four game skid, with the latest
of those four losses coming on Saturday.

Speaker 3 (16:18):
In the Shark take.

Speaker 6 (16:19):
On the Weinberg across the line.

Speaker 15 (16:22):
He's inte tries to get it in front, flock nicely
by seaganhal who.

Speaker 19 (16:26):
Loses an edge and loses control of the puck.

Speaker 3 (16:28):
Here's Weinberg to the blue line. CEC with the blast
space score. It comes off the love of Mark strum.

Speaker 15 (16:37):
And with twenty four point two to go, the Sharks
league three to two.

Speaker 14 (16:44):
That's the voice of Matt Laughlin of Wfan as Cody
CCS scored the game winner of the Sharks with twenty
four seconds left. So the Devils come into Seattle in
the midst of their biggest skid of the season to date.
So the crack can have to avoid the get right game.
The Devils have to be seeking to New Jersey comes
in with a high powered offense and one of the
brightest superstars in the game in Jack Hughes. But don't

(17:06):
sleep on the likes of Jasper Bratt, Timo Meyer and
Nico Heischer either as they can score up and down
their entire lineup. Two major changes to a team that
felt like it was on the verge of competing the
last two years. First is in the coach's bench. Lindy
Ruff changes to Sheldon Keif, formerly in Toronto, so he
has been known to get the most out of his

(17:26):
star players. And in the goaltending crease. They added Jacob
Markstrom from the Flames in the offseason and has been
a revelation for them in the crease, providing much needed
solidity to a team that has no problem scoring goals
on the back end. Dougie Hamilton will also be one
to watch today as he is one of the best
defenseman at joining the rush in the league and has

(17:47):
an absolute bomb of a shot from the blue line.
So the crack can have their hands full trying to
keep this high scoring lineup in check. With that, Let's
hear more from New Jersey head coach Sheldon Keif as
he describes whati will take for his team to be
successful against Seattle.

Speaker 20 (18:02):
We've got to defend our net way better and make
it way harder to get to our net I guess
that is what I should say coming to the neutral
zone especially and it's a challenge. Last time we played
this Seattle team, they had their way with us and
that in that regard, so we've got to really manage that.

Speaker 3 (18:17):
Well.

Speaker 20 (18:17):
That's all that. There's one area I think that's going
to be our focus today is to make it a
lot harder there and then hope that that tighter defensive
play will result in some better offensive pucks going the
other way for us.

Speaker 14 (18:30):
Looks like Jacob mark Strom will be in goal for
the Devils tonight, having a great year so far, posting
a nine to eleven save percentage to go along with
a two point one eight goal against average and three shutouts.
Coming up next we head back upstairs is Mike and

Hockey on the Crack and Audio Network.

Speaker 2 (20:54):
Back with you, Higatz oppering side, I climb the pledge arena.
Mike Betton Alcanski with you know the Cracking Looking to
get back into the win call him and end a
four game winless skid against New Jersey and get the
halfway poll of the season at three one to one
in their first five games out of the holiday break.
How do they get there? Al Koniski with are three
keys to the game. I'll take it away.

Speaker 4 (21:16):
Well, first of all, stay disciplined, the Kracking have gone
twenty six consecutive games with fewer than ten penalty minutes against.
That will need to continue here tonight. The Devils are
riding their highest power play percentage during the season since
they moved to New Jersey back in nineteen eighty two.
I wasn't born yet. Currently, at twenty eight point nine percent,
it's second best in the league after Winnipeg.

Speaker 3 (21:38):
You know, Mike.

Speaker 4 (21:39):
Some say it was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright on
a weekend retreat to the Tri State area, just saying
it's pretty good power play. Stay out of the box
and you don't become part of their deadly power play. Secondly,
stay focused. Yes, this is the first goal. It's important
and getting it here at home should be a priority.

Speaker 3 (21:56):
But stay focused.

Speaker 4 (21:57):
This Devil's team has twelve wins this season season even
when allowing the first goal, so it's important, but it's
not the only only thing. Getting that first goal will
not deter them, and it will take more than one
to win this game tonight. And then, third, stay the course.
You're the you're there. The intention is to make the playoffs,
and that that should fuel everything you do in this game.

(22:18):
Played the same playoff style and attack these Devils every shift,
forcing mistakes and getting some extended ozone time is as
often as possible. You're at the end of a home
stand and there these fans won't get a chance to
see you again for two weeks. Stay disciplined, stay focused,
and stay the course, and you'll leave them wanting more
and get back to your winning ways.

Speaker 2 (22:37):
You just pushing your mid thirties. Now I knew you
one back in the adding to this, here the Devils
are coming off of the beginning of a road trip.
Here that is like walking across hot coals. You're at
this point now they've lost four in a row. Third
periods have just been a disaster, getting up ten goals
on the trip. In period three they've lost with twenty
five seconds left in San Jose, New Jersey. This season's

(22:59):
all so minus four in the first period goal differential.
You and I talked about this year before the opening
the broadcast. You want to do yourself as a favor.
Step on the gas early. This is effectively a redo
from two nights ago for a Kraken team that can
really use a stronger push out.

Speaker 3 (23:14):
Of the gate.

Speaker 4 (23:14):
Yea, and it's not gonna be an easy task either.
Jacob Marx from Owdens, NHL's third best goals against average
at two point one sixty. You know he's not gonna
allow a lot of leakers to get by you. You're
gonna have to put a lot of pucks on that.
You're gonna have to make his night very difficult. You
have to create chaos in front of that net.

Speaker 2 (23:30):
Jacob Marx from this season nineteen five and Beggar Pardon
nineteen eight and two on the campaign in twenty nine games.

Speaker 3 (23:36):
Opposing him down the other.

Speaker 2 (23:37):
Way, it will be Philip Grubauer once again taking the
bulk of work. In essence, the team came out of
the holiday break seventeen games, five eleven and one eight
seven nine save percentage, but he has helped keep this
team in games.

Speaker 3 (23:51):
For much of this path out of the holiday break
as well.

Speaker 4 (23:53):
Yeah, absolutely, he's gonna do his job at the other end.
I always think about it. Never played goal center, at
least not for very long since I was a little kid.
But I have to believe you always look down two
hundred feet at dinner and ice and say I want
to play better than you tonight. I want to let
in fewer goals than you. And that's the way Gruby's
got to look at this.

Speaker 2 (24:10):
Sounds like it's gonna be Adam Larson also back in
the lineup here for the saving the krackend got a
scare when he had to leave the game in the
second period against Edmonton. He had only missed one game
in the last five years and that was because reason
the birth of his daughter Alba as well. It takes
a lot to take Adam Larson physically out of this
lineup here, so a big relief to get him back
into the blue.

Speaker 3 (24:29):
Line once again with Vince done.

Speaker 4 (24:30):
Yeah, you know what you get with Adam Larson, and
that's gonna be a guy that's gonna play unless you
tell him he can't play. He's gonna want to be
out there and play. He's gonna want to play twenty
plus minutes every single game. So there's a reason why
he's got that iron Man streak except for that one game.

Speaker 3 (24:45):
It's just the way he is.

Speaker 2 (24:46):

But first let's hear more from crackenhead coach Dan Biles.
Most standing by with Mike Benton.

Speaker 2 (27:54):
All right, back with Crackenhead coach Dan Bilesma Dan I
first asked in context from two nights ago. Showing five
late in the third period is good, but of course
you mentioned earlier how you get there is part of
the roadmap here with all of this, how does that
game feed the conversation with how these guys have to
bounce back here for the.

Speaker 25 (28:10):
Sevening, well, I said they were hitting the halfway mark
of the year, and I think some inconsistency with our
play of sixty minutes is a you know, part of
the roadmap for this team to keep growing and keep improving.
And that's you know, from the start of the game

(28:30):
that's within a game sixty minutes. But you can't start,
you can't play sixty unless you start it. And you know,
I think, you know, for various reasons over here the
last ten games so we have not stepped over the
boards with the urgency and the competitiveness and the and

(28:51):
the aggression that I think the game, the game warrants,
and you know, the game last game, whether it's you're
playing Conor McDavid and Leon dry sidele we you know,
dipped our tone of the water and wait to see
how the match was gonna go, and and before you
know what, you're you're down to nothing. And you're down
to nothing against a good team, so you can't and

(29:13):
that's not the time to respond. The time to respond
is from.

Speaker 8 (29:16):
The drop of the puck.

Speaker 25 (29:17):
And if this, as this team continues to grow, that
will be you know, that will be a focal point
for the group.

Speaker 3 (29:25):
That's Dan Biles. Mother's more to that conversation.
