Speaker 1 (00:00):
Miss Rolf has flown off the Seattle Kracket.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Welcome to Seattle Kraken Hockey. Brought to you by Coor's Life,
by your Western Washington, Toyota Nelers, by Beacon Plumbing Virginia, Mason,
Franciscan Hell, by Muckleshute Casino Resort, Liyuo, and by Symetra.
Seattle Kraken Hockey is an exclusive presentation of the Emerald
Quinck Casino Kraken Audio Network.

Speaker 3 (00:26):
The Seattle Cracket passed one of their toughest tests of
the season against one of the toughest teams at home
last night in Los Angeles.

Speaker 1 (00:34):
After scoring the game's first.

Speaker 3 (00:35):
Goal five games in a row, Seattle found themselves down
one nothing one forty nine into the first period. After
the Kraken scored twice in the final eighty five seconds
of the first.

Speaker 4 (00:46):
Seattle withstood an offensive.

Speaker 3 (00:48):
Barrage from the Kings in the second and third to
hang on for a two to one win and their
first three game winning streak since early November. Tonight, for
the first time ever the kracking role in the Salt
Lake City un to take on the Utah Hockey Club
in the finale of their three game season series with
a chance to drive the final nail into the coffin

(01:08):
up their playoff hopes. Good evening, ladies and gentlemen will
come inside of Delta Center here in downtown Salt Lake City,
Utah alongside Alkoniski. I am ever fitz youth. This is
Seattle Cragging Hockey on the emeral Quin Casino Craging Audio Network.
You are listening to the pregame show served up by
Frostbrew Corps Light Choose, Chill, Big Al. The Kracking got

(01:29):
all the offense they needed in the first period, a
couple of goals from Mattie Beniers along with Brandon Montour
who sets a new career high in goals for him.
But for Seattle, they had to withstand a very tough
defensive team in the Washington the La Games Rather and
a goaltender in Darcy Kemper who does not give up
a whole lot, absolutely.

Speaker 5 (01:49):
Low scoring game, a tightly contested game, and coming out
of the first period after giving up the first goal,
the Cracking found themselves up to one and you thought
there was going to be a lot of goals scoring tonight.
Both teams locked it down for the rest of the
game and it was. There was some adversity that the
Kraken had to deal with five on three penalty killed.
They had to get through Jamie Alexiak getting a puck
in the face as I mentioned, giving up that first goal.

(02:12):
All adversity situations that they overcame cracking.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
Now riding their first three game winning streak since the
early part of November, They've outscored teams twelve to.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
Two in that time.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
Aero for nine on the power play, not gonna let
facts get in the way of a good story, ten
for ten on the pKa. For Seattle playing some of
their best hockey of the season now down the stretch, well.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
That's just it.

Speaker 5 (02:33):
They're playing with a lot of confidence right now. I
would even say a little bit loose, and not loose
in terms of lack of structure, but lose in terms
of there's no pressure right now.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
They want to create and.

Speaker 5 (02:43):
Replicate the same game night in and night out and
get ready to take that in the next season.

Speaker 3 (02:47):
On the other side of the red line, this Utah
Hockey Club club is three to one and one in
their last five games, but they have just one point
left in their season. If they lose one point, if
they don't win tonight in regulation, or if the Minnesota
Wild pick up a point here tonight, their season's done.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
But the Kracking have won both of the first two
meetings of.

Speaker 5 (03:08):
The season series absolutely, and this Utah team comes at
you hot and fast, and I gotta believe being this
is the first time in the Delta Center this season
for the Krack and they're really gonna come hot and
fasten that first period. Only seventeen games this season where
the Utah Hockey Club has not been up after the
first period.

Speaker 3 (03:24):
Yeah, it's going to be a tough one. Get the
lead after one if you can. Utah fourteen three and
eight this season when leading after twenty minutes. Mike Benton

once again. Glad you're with us again, Mike Beton with
you back at thirty two Bar and grill at crack
In Community Ice Plus. Come on down and hang out
with us if you're around the area as a cracking
record coming in right now at thirty four to thirty
eight and six point total lats seventy four, and they're
aiming for four wins in a row. Utah coming in
thirty five, thirty and twelve eighty two points as ever

(07:10):
recovered things right here, they are fighting for their playoff
lives or osby bet MGM the line with Utah at
minus two twenty and the over under is six and
a half. Well, here we go right back into the
depths of a bat to back situation. That's a new
test here for today, but for a long term blueprint.
The Kraken last night passed another one in Los Angeles,

(07:33):
Everly skates a right back out to us last Stevenson
bent to everly right wing into the zone, goes cross Eyes.

Speaker 1 (07:39):
Montor City Stars.

Speaker 12 (07:42):
Brandon Montour at the bar, and then thirty point six
to go in period one and the Kraken they I'm
taking their first lead of the game in Los Angeles
had two and a one.

Speaker 5 (07:53):
Well again, it's just straight up three on two, rush
up the ice. Stevenson moves out puck up to evererly
down the right side. Every waits to find in that scene,
Montourse jumped into the in rush. He's on his off
wing and everybody finds him over on that far side.
He beats Kemper gloves side under the bar, two to
one Kraken.

Speaker 11 (08:10):
The familiar rush attack gave way to the game winner.
But last night was about grit and perseverance as the
Kraken beat the Los Angeles Kings two to one. That
bumped the road trip record to three and zero. As
the cracking handed Los Angeles just their fifth loss in
regulation on hole mice all season and as far as
the Great Category filed these numbers away here for reference,

(08:32):
hy Category, krackt won that battle twenty three to eighteen.
Penalty kill, they went three for three, including a five
on three sequence for one fifty one and above all
the sacrifice of laying the body down. The Kraken led
the game in block shots twenty nine to ten. Adam
Larsen led the team with six, Jamie Alexiak had five,

(08:52):
including a puck off the jot that led him with
a team wrestling belt right back as well in the
dressing room. So with that the Kraken walked away. We
have plenty of momentum on their side. Plus also a
big lesson learned in physicality and digging deep. Brandon Montor's goal,
as you heard, stood up as a game winner. It's
also a new career high for him was seventeen and

(09:12):
after the game last night he said Monday was all
about digging deeper.

Speaker 13 (09:16):
We challenged him. They didn't have much space and obviously
that helped with forwards, you know, protecting and making good
plays in the das on his wall, so big blocks
Joe makes, the saves give him, you know, tight space,
you know, made high for him.

Speaker 11 (09:32):
And a part of that nod going to goaltender Joey
de Cord, who is becoming a model of endurance and
already four games pass his career high he turned into
twenty eight save effort Third Star honors last night. He
had eleven saves in period three, most of any period
and the crack and will need him once again tonight.
More on that and a bit so as far as
turning the page and this one. The Kraken since the

(09:54):
trade deadline have a record of eight to five and
two and seven of those eight wins they have allowed
now two goals are less so looking to head here
for tonight. More moving on the roster ahead of the
final matchup with Utah and the Cracking getting two call
ups on board from Ahl Coachella Valley as goalie Victor
Osman on emergency Bassis Dan Bilsmas saying Philip Grubauer battling

(10:16):
illness and Ford Ryan Winterton also backup, effectively a twenty
four hours swap the Crack and half.

Speaker 4 (10:22):
With him and also Yannie Newman.

Speaker 11 (10:24):
So all that in place here ahead of the third
and final matchup with Utah went and gives a crake
in a three game season series sweep over Utah Hockey Club.
Plus also they would give the Crack in their first
four game wins streak since December twelfth through the twentyeth
and they're aiming for that in their only visit to
Delta Center for the entire season. Your Cracking story lines,

(10:45):
first off, begin with the final leg of back to
back and how can they pass this test? The numbers
in this situation have been tough this year eleven tries,
eleven losses. One way the Kracking may want to mitigate
this game a similar approach. Two last evening in a
low event kind of night and each of the last
six games second leg of back to back they have

(11:06):
given up four goals or more, and last night it
was a simple approach that worked to get through the
Kings and their one two to one setup, and this
time a simple approach will likely play a role in
getting through a test of endurance. Second storyline, Joey to Cord,
he starts again. It's his second game in as many days.
Can the legs hold out here for this test of endurance?

(11:27):
He'll start again, And what Dan Bilsma said before this
evening's game was a big dig in game. Third time,
by the way to Cord is facing the Utah Slash
Arizona franchise. Last game against them last season March twenty second,
in a two to one overtime loss. Third storyline as well,
the Kraken have two centers on the cusp with new benchmarks.

(11:48):
Matty Beniers scored last night nineteenth goal. He has won
away for twenty for the second time in his NHL career,
and Shane Wright previously in a six game goal scoring drought.
He is coming out of that now right at the moment,
with points in two of the last three games. He
needs two goals to reach twenty in his first full
NHL season. Plus also last night he had twelve ozho

(12:09):
waight of ice time, which should be a little more
in this favor here to be rested to take on
the challenges of a game like this. Here for this evening,
let's are more from the Krank end and here's more
with Montor who had more on their game plus saying
there's strong encouragement on where they're headed long term, even
though the season has just four games to go.

Speaker 13 (12:27):
Personally, I think after the deadline we've become a better team.
I think you guys can see that wins or loses.
You know, I think guys are happy with anywhere our
game's going. And again we grow unfortunate what position we
put ourselves in, but guys are fighting til the end,
and you know that just is a growing hockey team.

Speaker 4 (12:49):
The goals against are drawing up. That's a good sign.

Speaker 11 (12:52):
And Chandler Stevenson said last night that's a product of
a key defensive efforts and goaltending.

Speaker 14 (12:58):
Seems more seamless than to the zone closing on guys
and just kind of making reads. And Joe's played well
and yeah, I think just kind of has been leading
to that and just kind of the success as of.

Speaker 11 (13:11):

Your pregame show is served up by Frostbrew Corps, Light Twos, Chill,

And let's take a look at Utah now, and they're
hanging by a thread in this playoff race. As of today,
nine points sound just five games left have recovered it,
but it is now double secret probation territory. The Cracking
have tantam a lesson or two in the first couple

(16:50):
of matchups, but many see Utah as a team also
on a long term rise, and despite the bleak picture
here for the playoffs, they have taken strides under heck
co jendre to. They are two to one right now
in a five game homestand after Thursday they're done with
that part of the schedule. Three game road trip awakes
to close out the regular season in Dallas, Nashville and

(17:10):
Saint Louis. As of reason, They've also refused to fizzle
out of the picture, with three wins last four games,
scoring a combined fourteen goals in that area. Last game
four to one win over Winnipeg. That was on Saturday,
when Clayton Keller and Barrett Hayton led the way with
power play goals, first time Utah's power play by the way,
scoring multiple goals in a game since the twenty seventh

(17:33):
of February. Your Utah story lines first up, begin with
Clayton Keller, the obvious one to watch here and he's
felt right at home on home ice this season. His
forty six points in thirty nine games are most for
Utah on home ice and getting into crush time. He's
their go to guy. Also thirteen points in seventeen games
since the first of March that leads Utah. Secondly, Corell Vamelca.

(17:57):
They call him Vegi. He's in Net this evening. Will
he handle this game? And the Koma workhorse is maybe
not doing enough justice. This evening will be the twenty
first straight game he has appeared and Net my goodness,
Familica coming off a thirty two save effort in that
win against Winnipeg last Saturday. But against the Kraken, here's

(18:17):
what the wild card comes into play. In his career,
he's two and five and eight games with an eight
eight nine say percentage in the series. Let's say more
from Utah and that coach John dray Turney said for
a game like this, he's looking at a very tough
challenge against the Kraken.

Speaker 19 (18:33):
There's a team we did not match well against that
they like to possess the parking there, especially lately. I
think they went from something like thirty out defensively in
the league in the top five, so they generated way
more off the rush and end zone. So we'll need
to It will be a good challenge. I think they
have to elite defensive defenseman who likes to get really

(18:55):
really involved and get out of the structure, so they
pulled you out of your own structure. So that might
have been in a little struggle for us. So, uh,
we we review that and I expect us to be.

Speaker 1 (19:07):

Speaker 3 (21:42):
We're back inside of Telta Center here at Salt Lake City,
Utah alongside al Kiniski. I am ever fitsu all the
cracking three wins in a row on this five game
road trip in the krack and have been finding ways
to get it done in a variety of areas, outscoring
the opposition Vancouver, San Jose.

Speaker 4 (21:59):
And the La Kings twelve to two in that time.

Speaker 1 (22:03):
What needs to happen tonight for them Mckevian Rowland well,
first of all, win the first.

Speaker 5 (22:08):
Utah is a team that hasn't trailed very often after
the first period.

Speaker 1 (22:11):
This season. In fact, they've.

Speaker 5 (22:12):
Only had seventeen games where they've been down hidden into
the second period. Win that first period and you buck
the trend that Utah has set all season along and
set yourself up for period two and three success. Secondly,
stay out of the box. Over the past five games,
Seattle has taken eighteen penalties and given their opponents just
as many.

Speaker 1 (22:31):
Power play opportunities.

Speaker 5 (22:32):
Fortunately for Seattle, they've done well on the penalty kill,
killing off sixteen of those eighteen power plays. Utah's power
play is stout at twenty two point two, fifteenth best
in the league. I would not test those waters here tonight.
And then, third, set the standard. A big part of
the crackt focus on these last ten games has been
setting the standard for how they want to play, not
just through the rest of the season, but started into

(22:54):
next season as well. The leaders of this team set
that standard and expect everybody to fall in line. You
set up by playing an honest, intense and never quit
every shift mentality every time you're on the ice.

Speaker 1 (23:07):
The Crackit have a chance.

Speaker 5 (23:07):
To sweep the season series against Utah here tonight if
they can win the first. Stay out of the box
and set the standard. The head to Vegas with another
two points in their pocket and they're fourth win in
a row.

Speaker 3 (23:18):
Earlier this evening, Dan Biosma speaking to the larger media group,
saying that the focus the night has to.

Speaker 4 (23:23):
Be on simple but intense hockey.

Speaker 1 (23:26):
The crack in this season.

Speaker 3 (23:27):
It's no secret there a record in back to backs
oh eleven and oh. In game two of back to backs,
they've been outscored forty two sixteen. Partner Zoey de Cood
are gonna play his second consecutive game as Philip Grubauer
is out with an illness. This really is going to
be a type of dig in game and he called
it that this morning.

Speaker 5 (23:46):
Absolutely, you've got guys that are a little under the weather.
You've got Joey to Cord playing in his first second
game of a back to back. They have not had
a good record in those. This is an opportunity to
change that record a little bit. And I like what
Brandon Montur said. Guys are fighting until the end, and
you have to fight through sickness, you have to fight
through exhaustion. You've got to fight to get to to

(24:07):
get a win here tonight. Let's bring that up.

Speaker 3 (24:09):
You mentioned something in your keys about not only are
the players playing for now, but you're trying to build
for the summertime, build in the next season. Even though
these games aren't going for playoffs, these games still matter absolutely.

Speaker 5 (24:22):
Yeah, And like I said, setting the standard. You know,
when you play in a back to back, you've got
a grind. We heard coach Bob Bowsmans say it's gonna
be a slog and he said, quote unquote, we embrace
the slog. And you have to win these games because
it's gonna be a test.

Speaker 1 (24:38):
It's getting right from the drop of the pocket.

Speaker 5 (24:40):
You're playing a team that has not played in that
back to back, so you're already disadvantaged.

Speaker 1 (24:44):
You've got to play through that. You know who plays
through everything. Yeah, and you know who's never died, never disadvantaged.

Speaker 3 (24:50):

you right now. Here's that coach Dan Bielesma standing by
right here with Everett in Utah.

Speaker 1 (28:00):
Thanks Mike.

Speaker 3 (28:00):
Dan Bilesman joins us once again. Earlier today before the game,
you stressed to the larger media group the importance of
tonight playing simple, playing aggressive, getting into the fight.

Speaker 1 (28:11):
You know what's going to be a slog.

Speaker 9 (28:13):
We welcome the slog here tonight.

Speaker 3 (28:16):
But in this second game of a back to back,
what does that game plan look like against a team
that they are tragic? Numbers down to one for the
Utah Hockey Club and for the Kraken. I'll save you
the numbers and the stats. But you're looking for your
first winning game two of a back to back this season.

Speaker 28 (28:29):
Yes, I think it's a It's got to affect your
mentality of how you play and what you expect in
the game. And that comes from both of you know,
a physical aspect. It's gonna be tough, it's gonna be
a slog. Make it easier on yourself by how you
execute with the puck and the mentality.

Speaker 1 (28:51):
And they're an aggressive team.

Speaker 28 (28:52):
Their d are down the walls, and if you you
don't execute hard and you don't get it by their
d it's going to be going to be faced with
the team that, especially in this building, comes pretty hard
at you. So our execution shouldn't reflect that. And you know, again,
make it a simple game, making an easy game. Let

(29:12):
the puck do the work to make this game all
about us playing in the offensive zone, and which is
it's easier to play there, It's funner to play there.
So let's make everything we do, every decision we make,
every puck play we make.

Speaker 1 (29:26):
All about that.

Speaker 3 (29:27):
Dan, it was probably one of your toughest tests of
the season, going up against the second best home team
in the NHL in terms of wins, and you got
two goals in the first period, you survived a push
after push after push in the next forty to get
your third win in a row on the road.

Speaker 28 (29:46):
It certainly felt you know, I I you've mentioned the push.
I thought it was like it was a really highly
contested game.

Speaker 1 (29:56):
On both sides of the puck.

Speaker 28 (29:58):
And I think, you know, we had some We got
the two goals at the end of the first period
that got us too one lead, but you know, the
we had the tolevenym two breakaways in the second.

Speaker 4 (30:12):
Crack and trying to build off with that win.

Speaker 11 (30:14):
