Speaker 1 (00:00):
This roof has flown off Seattle.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Welcome to Seattle Kraken Hockey on the Global Credit Union
Krakennaudio Network, brought to you by Coor's Life, Your Western Washington,
Toyota Dealers, Virginia Mason, Franciscan Health, Muckleshoot Casino Resort, and
by Luna and Simetra.

Speaker 1 (00:21):
Since Marshmint had a breakout game for the Kraken.

Speaker 3 (00:24):
However, the trend of good efforts not netting good results
continued on Friday night in Salt Lake City as the
Kraken fell for a seventh time in their last eight games.
Marshmitt had a pair of goals and Ben Myers not's
the first cracking goal of his career. However, it was
the Utah Mammoth who reigned supreme with a five to

(00:44):
three win. Tonight, The crack And kickoff their final homestand
before the holiday break with a meeting against the Buffalo Sabers,
looking for their eighth win in nine tries all time.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen, Welcome.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
In sign of climate Pledgerina alongside al Kiniski, I am
everet fits you. This is Seattle krag And Hockey on
a Global Credit Union, KRACK and Audio Network. You are
listening to the pregame show served up by Frost Crew.
Course like Choose Chill two goals for Mason March been
a hard fought four flying goal in garbage time for
Seattle late in the game on Friday and uts off

(01:20):
not enough Cracking falling five to three. That score a
little bit misleading as two of those five were empty
net goals, and yet again Partner it was another example
of the Kraken playing well enough to minimally earn a
points in that game, but ultimately coming up with nothing.

Speaker 4 (01:37):
Yeah, as you said, the score is a bit misleading
and another really tight game for the Krack. And in fact,
forty six point four percent of the games this year
have been tied over that amount of time in the
game and eighty one point four percent within a goal.
So this team's used to playing in those kinds of games,
but unfortunately in Utah they just were able to pull
it out.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
Kracking have been dealing with some injuries some sickness in
recent games, calling up Jacob Malanson today, not sure if
he's going to play today or not. For Seattle, Ley
Lambert calling it a game time decision Zy Artshe was out.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
Of the lineup a couple of nights ago.

Speaker 3 (02:13):
Ryker Revags was out as well, So we'll see who's
healthy who can play. But for Seattle, I hate to
keep going back to the well special teams continuing to
be a struggle for Seattle. Five of thirty three of
their last nine on the power play are Seattle. They're
cracking of a lot of power play goal and five
of their last six games going nine for eighteen.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
And that's man.

Speaker 4 (02:33):
Yeah, and they're gonna be shot attempts, end shots on
goals in a lot of those powerplay situations, but they're
not finishing the job. And yeah, it's great, Mason marsh
We've got a couple of goals at even strength. But
you'd like to see this team start to turn the
corner a little bit on their special teams.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
On the other side of the red line, the Buffalo
Sabers team that is at the end of a thirteen day,
six game road trip, their longest road trip since twenty eleven.
This is a team that are hurting to get back
in the playoffs. The last time they won a round
of the playoff. Partner I was a junior in college.
They've not been to the playoffs since I was a
fifth year senior in the twenty eleven to twenty twelve season.

(03:10):
So the Buffalo Sabers trying to get back in the
playoff contention. But they've got back to back wins four
or five and zero in their last nine.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
They've got a lot.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
Of talent on this roster, but for whatever reason, they
just can't seem.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
To figure it out.

Speaker 4 (03:21):
Yeah, I've been of an extended road trip for them,
as you said, two wins two and three in their
last five, those last two coming in the last two games.
But this team struggles with scoring and even strength. They've
done a dash twenty five right now, meaning to take
out the power play goals they're getting scored on over
the course of the season twenty five more times on
they are scoring and even strength. So it seems to me,
despite wanting to see these the special teams deal a

(03:44):
little bit better for the craket It might be even
strength where they can excel. The crack that can excel today.

Speaker 3 (03:49):
They've played nine one goal games this year. Have the
Buffalo Sabers five to zero to four in those games.
They've got points in each of the last eleven one
goal games. However, in two or three or more goal
goal games, the Buffalo Savers are fourteen and eight this season,
so this could be one of those weird Sundays where
we could see three goals or we could see nine goals.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
Who knows? Sixteen minutes will tell the tale.

Speaker 5 (07:28):
Back b the course light landing in section twenty with
the Kraken coming in right now twelve eleven and six
at thirty points and they have slipped a five back
of the cut line of the Western Conference and facing
Buffalo at the end of their six game trip thirteen
fourteen and four thirty point SASM right now in the
basement of the Eastern Conference And as far as this saving,

(07:49):
the story begins with this, can the krack and find
solid footing While getting back to basics, they lost five
to three to Utah despite a great effort by Mason
marshmant on a two goal night for the power play,
coming up empty zero four. Meanwhile, Utah going one for two,
so special teams making a big difference and spilled the
great run unfortunately on two fronts for the Kraken side.

(08:11):
First off, it was Philip Grubauer who had a great
game to only two goals allowed in thirty shots plus
shot volume as well with a cracking out shot UTAH
thirty six thirty two and Lane Lambert is saying this
morning that he was much happier about the area of
that part of the Kraken game, which leads this year
to this fact. The Cracking right now trying to get
out of a one six and one slide in the

(08:32):
last eight games. They can ill afford to slip further
away here from the playoff picture, and Shane Wright said
the Krack can need a game where they get back
to basics.

Speaker 1 (08:40):
You know, we just got to be better overall.

Speaker 9 (08:42):
I think it's pretty simple. It's just, you know, we're
not playing to our identity and we're not playing to
the way, you know, the way gives us success and
you know the way we know we have to win games.
And you know, when we get away from that, you know,
our defensive identity in mindset, that's when you know we
get in trouble and I'm gonna start to lose game
like we have. So I'm just got to get back to,

(09:02):
you know, our identity and how we.

Speaker 5 (09:03):
Know we have to play with games right, even offer
to look inside his own games sing what more, he
wants out of himself right here.

Speaker 9 (09:12):
Just a consistency overall. Yeah, I mean playing well with
the puck, I feel like offensively and creating chances, and
I think just being able to be the trust a
little more defensively, you know, a little stronger plays in
the zone in my own end. Uh stuff I can
clean up a little bit. But yeah, just trying to
keep trending the re direction.

Speaker 5 (09:31):
And defense is certainly a big part of the team,
my identity. The krack of knows certainly how to keep
it close because forty six percent of the games they
played this year they have spent tied, that is most
in the NHL. Eighty one percent of their games this
year have been spent within one goal, that's third most
in the NHL. So when you break it all down,
details and defense are a big part of this. For

(09:52):
the last eight games, the Kraken at the fourth lowest
percentage of high danger attempts in the entire NHL. So
they'll certainly one to tighten their game up asap, spending
next two games at home here against Buffalo, and then
it gets much much tougher against the Colorado Avalanche coming
up on Tuesday, and then four straight games on the

(10:13):
road against Buffalo. This the first of two matchups, the
next one not coming until late March, where the Crack
and also looking to take advantage of some home cooking.

Speaker 10 (10:22):
Here.

Speaker 5 (10:22):
They're three to one in four matchups against the Sabers,
and they have scored a ton of goals against some
on home ice four and a half goals per game,
by the way, in the all time matchup, as we
mentioned earlier here, looks like Ryker Evans's back in he
was scratched Friday. Josh mhur is going to take a
seat and Jacob mallonson called up with illness Going here
through the team. He is a game time decision with
other players upfront, but Jared McCann because of the mallonson

(10:45):
call up and has been placed on IR still a
couple of weeks out here, getting closer here to that.
As far as this timeline to return your Cracking storylines,
first up begin with the special teams battle and the
penalty kill for the overall s of things has been struggling,
but maybe turning a corner recently because after allowing seven
of nine goals as far as chances, they have killed

(11:08):
off eight of the last ten chances as well, but
they're gonna have their hands full against the Buffalo team
that has gotten hot in the power play. They've scored
in six raight games, and for good measure, Buffalo's penalty
kill has been lights out, second best in the NHL
at eighty five percent. Here's Ryan Lindgren who said recent
changes on the Kranke and penalty kill have made a
big difference.

Speaker 10 (11:28):
We did make a little bit of a structure change.
I think that's gone well, but you can tell we've done,
you know, a better job with the pressure. And yeah,
it's all about effort too. You know, you're you're in
those one on one battles and you got to come
out with it and get pucked on the ice, and
you know when you when you don't, when you aren't
in those battles. That's where the structure comes into play.
And we've got to make sure we know what our
jobs are and helping each other out. So it's definitely

(11:50):
gotten a little better, but you know, definitely.

Speaker 4 (11:53):
Room to improve as well.

Speaker 5 (11:55):
So often said that your best penalty killer has got
to be your goaltender. And Joey the Court's back in
net for a second storyline and the big question remains here.
Can he build off the win he had against the
Kings on Wednesday where he looked pretty sharp twenty four
saves on twenty six shots, and he's aiming for back
to back wins for the first time since October twenty fifth,
and will be in his sixth career matchup against Buffalo

(12:16):
with a three and two record. Our final storyline here
for the krack and it is their defense and they're
facing a Buffalo team that can turn games into a
track meet, so it is a strained versus strength matchup.
As far as five on five goals, McCracken tied for
second fewest allowed with forty seven, and they faced Buffalo
twelfth most in the NHL with sixty five. And for

(12:36):
the Kraken last five wins overall, you keep it low.
You're doing pretty well. Those last five wins. They have
allowed three goals or less. And all begins with handling.
Tace Thompson and Rasmus DLin And here's Linn Grin. I'm
with the Krakeen wana key on defensively when they're on
the ice.

Speaker 10 (12:52):
You gotta be hard on them. You know, two very
dynamic skill guys. Obviously both very confident with the puck,
kind of willing to try whatever, especially you know Dolliyan
back there. You know it so incredibly skilled and you
know we're watching some video before morning skate here and yeah, yeah,
that's something that's gonna be key for us is to

(13:13):
just stamp those guys and be hard on them and
not give them time and space. And like I said before,
we got to make sure you manage it punk and
you know, don't make the game easy for them.

Cracking and sabers twenty two minutes away from puck drop
here in Seattle, and time to ask again what are
the odds? That's brought to you by the Evergreen Council
on Problem Gambling In Your Odds courtesy bet MGM. The
line with Buffalo at minus one twenty and the over
under is six. The pregame show was served up by
frostprew Corps light shows, Chill, Mike Benton with you and

(15:59):
time now for a low camp Buffalo who've had a
messy season as far as on and off ice matters,
and they've been also battling illness at the end of
the six game road trip, spending this year just two
games above five hundred, where at one point they were
five to four and four. Since then eight and ten
and now last in the Eastern Conference, where they play
a very high risk, high reward game at times, and

(16:19):
a lot of those get decided rather quickly. Only nine
games have gone down to one goal for them, last
fewest in the league. Previous thirteen games, nine of them
decided by three goals or more. Last game, they're trying
to toward an upswing as far as the end result.
They beat the Canucks three two and right now two
to three. On the road trip, I've went back to

(16:40):
back games also additionally, funny enough by one goal, but
yet I've yet to win three in a row all
season long. Their power play right now turning it on
recently on a six game road trip, they've had seven
goals on the man advantaged, second most in the NHL.
In that spin and going back to December one, ninth
best power play in the lead gap thirty two percent.

(17:01):
You're a head coach, Lindy Rouff on their side, I
won Buffalo once in their road Tripinelle Manager for Puckwell.

Speaker 3 (17:09):
Just play a really good road game, and I think that,
you know, I've.

Speaker 1 (17:11):
Played for really good forty.

Speaker 4 (17:13):
Minutes and Dlton only the last twenty got away from us.
But I think that that's the recipe for winning.

Speaker 5 (17:19):
That leads us here to our Buffalo storylines. And first up,
trying to handle these guys who can handle the pucks.
Certainly that's Taves Thompson and Rasmus Dahlin Thompsons. They're leading
scored no surprise, twenty eight points in thirty one games,
and he's got a rocket shot with a big frame
and against the Kraken fine points last five matchups, Dawling
on the back end four game points to reach a

(17:41):
total in that span, and right now he's not the
among NHL defenseman twenty five points in twenty eight games.
Second story line, big lineup games, and despite Josh Norris
and Alex Tuck recently out to the illness, looking like
that they're going to be back into the lineup. Here
and that puts in for Buffalo thirty three points combined
nor with seven and five and tucked by the way

(18:02):
second leading score right now on the Sabers with twenty
six points in thirty games. Looking like Alex Lyon will
start in net for a third straight game and at
Vancouver most recently he had thirty saves on thirty two shots.
After this everet now back in the both will have
your three keys coming up. You're listening to the Global
Credit Union crack An Audio network.

It was a Kickers game today over there, eighteen sixteenth,
bulling it out over the Indianapolis Colts. But back here
in Seattle, partner cracking kicking off a three game homestand
prior to the holiday rate they got four in a
row on the road. After this, but they need to
get back in the win column. Sitting five points back
of a playoff spot. They gotta start racking on points.

(21:03):
And what better time than now against Buffalo. How can
they get that done?

Speaker 1 (21:07):
Well?

Speaker 4 (21:07):
Absolutely, And before I get to the keys, I want
to give a quick shout out Happy twentieth birth birthday
to Lizzie Rough. Lizzy and her friend Lauren are on
their way to the game with mom and dad, Chris
and Katie Ruff and they're here, coming here to cheer
on the.

Speaker 1 (21:18):
Crack and so happy Happy birthday, Lizzy.

Speaker 4 (21:20):
All right. First key of the game, make CPA feel
loud and unfriendly. Feed off the crowd early and often
fast starts, physical play and shots on net turn noise
in energy. The louder it gets, the harder it is
for Buffalo's young legs to stay composed. Secondly, defensive details matter.
Buffalo can score if you give them odd man rushes,

(21:42):
back check hard, stick to structure, and eliminate second chances
around the crease. Boring defense is simple defense which turns
into boring saves for Joey to cord and that's a
key ingredient. And then third, depth has to deliver. This
can't be a one line show. Seattle has to rule
four lines, pressure constant, and let their fresh legs do

(22:02):
damage late into this one. Seattle's four fine has to
be going, competing every shift and maybe even getting in
on the on scoring on the board. Depth is how
you break teams that don't want to defend. In summary,
turn up the volume, mind the details and let depth
do the dirty work. I CPA's rocking and the Crack
and state discipline. Buffalo's gonna spend a lot of time

(22:23):
defending instead of attacking. And that's till you turn a
home game into a home win. We had a little
bit of breaking news coming into the game.

Speaker 3 (22:30):
Mason Marshman a scratch yeh here today Jacob Milansen gonna
come in make his season debut for the Seattle Kracken.
Skated in one game last year for the Crack and
he's got fourteen points in the Coachella Valley Firebirds this season.

Speaker 1 (22:44):
So you've got the guy that scored two of the
three goals on Friday out of the lineup here tonight.

Speaker 3 (22:50):
So it's gonna be another hurdle for Seattle to overcome
against the Buffalo Sabers team that's pretty deep. They lead
the NHL and odd Man rushes. They have had multi
five on fours, five on threes. They all their defense
will jump up in the rush and the Kracken have
to be ready for that tonight.

Speaker 4 (23:06):
Yeah, they have to slow it down. And I think
part of going into depth is not just scoring, but
it's rolling those four lines to keep the guys fresh
on the ice so they don't get stuck out on
a long shift defending some of those young legs. And
Jacob Malonson coming into the lineup. Listen, he's in Clydesdale,
and I mean that in the most positive way. I
watched his his athletic training at the start of the season.
He was breaking records down there in the locker rooms

(23:27):
doing what he was doing. I've seen him on the ice,
you know, he works hard, he's physical, He's a guy
that loves to go to the net. He'll fit well
on that fourth line.

Speaker 1 (23:34):
He was in that conversation.

Speaker 3 (23:36):
It was him, it was Oscar Fisker, Molegard, Ben Meers,
Mitchell Stevens for that final cut of training camp. So
good to see him back up here in an NHL sweater.
Joey Decord gonna go here tonight. He snapped a five
game skid his last outing. He's two six and one
is last night, so he's trying to get back on
the winning side of things as well. And I think
for Seattle defensively, we've said all the time about Grubauer

(23:59):
and Murray into they have to play strong in front.

Speaker 4 (24:01):
Of their goaltend. They absolutely do And you know I
mentioned making boring saves. He can't make boring saves. He
has to allow the guys in front of them to

The two matchups against the Savers coming up here for
the Kraken. In about eleven minutes, let's past ten secus
for a station idea on the Global Credit Union, crack
an audio network, Mike betting again with you back by
the Corpus light landing in section twenty of Climbate Pledge Arena.
Let's go down to Lane Lambert for the crackenheat coach,
and he's standing by right now with ever a fits you.

Speaker 3 (27:20):
Thanks Mike Lane. A tough one in Utah the other night,
where once again, this final score not indicative of how
the team played. A couple of empty net goals against.
But just take us back to those sixty minutes in Utah.

Speaker 14 (27:31):
Well again, you know, not indicative a couple of empty
net goals against which we've you know, we've had a
couple of those in the last week. You know, the
Minnesota game as well, where we gave up two empty
net goals. It's a one goal hockey game. Disappointed in
the fact that, you know, it was seven and a
half or eight minutes left, we're tied.

Speaker 1 (27:50):
Again.

Speaker 14 (27:51):
The theme and the trend is not you know, it
does not going the right way for us. We have
to find a way to be better in those situations,
you know. And I thought our commitment level was high.
I thought we blocked a lot of shots. But I
also thought that we were slow defensively, slow to close,
and I thought we spent too much time in our zone. So,
you know, at the end of the day, could we

(28:14):
have gotten points out of that game? I thought our
goaltender played well again, and yes we could have, but
you know, we have to spend less time.

Speaker 1 (28:21):
In our zone.

Speaker 3 (28:22):
It's been a rough stretch for Seattle. But you've said
multiple times, including this morning, you've liked how the team
has played, The effort's been there, they've they've played good
enough to win or at least get points. How do
you manage that frustration? Where do you think the crack
can have more to give in these areas well?

Speaker 14 (28:39):
I just think that you know, I have I have
liked a lot about our work ethic, but at the
end of the day, that's just required. Let's face it.
You know, you're required to come to the rank and
you're required to work, so you know, to say we've
been working, you know, that's great, that's all fine and dandy,
But I think just little areas of detail for our

(29:00):
hockey team. This is, you know, the time of the
season basically where you know the cream starts to separate
itself a little bit and are you on the right
side or the wrong side? And our attention to detail,
in my opinion, has dropped slightly. Whether it be sickness,
whether it be distractions outside with Christmas season, whether it

(29:23):
be you know it's fatigue. You know, there's got to
be more attention to detail in certain areas. And that's
you know, I've always said, and I've said it before
to you, you never know what five seconds is going
to win when to lose your hockey game. We've had
a lot of situations where five seconds is one is
a hockey game, and we're having too many situations where

(29:44):
the five seconds is losing us games right now.

Speaker 5 (29:47):
So the Crack and looking to tighten up in order
to lock up two more points here for today. That's

coming up next. You're listening to the Global Credit Union Crack,
