Seattle Kraken Hockey is an exclusive presentation of the Emerald
Quin Casino Kraken Audio Network.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
The Seattle Kracken needed to mount a third consecutive comeback
since the holiday break on Thursday night as they welcomed
in the Vancouver Canucks for their second meeting in a
week's time. After falling behind three to one, Matty Beniers
potted his third goal in as many games and Vince
Dunn tallied his third goal against the Canucks in a
span of five days to force overtime tied at three.

(00:49):
After a number of great eight chances, including a couple
of breakaways in a scoreless extra session, the Canucks need
the loan goal in the shootout.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
Taking the extra point by a four three score.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
Tonight, Seattle continues their four game home stamp with another
Western Canadian Divisional foe in the Edmonton Oilers who have
had the Krakens number historically, but are playing in game
two of a back to back.

Speaker 3 (01:14):
And are in the midst of nine games and sixteen days.
Good evening, Ladies and gentlemen.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
Law commits side of Climate Plagarina here and downtown Seattle,
Washington alongside Alchemiski, I am Everett fits you. This is
Seattle Kracken Hockey while the Emerald Queen Casino Cracking Audio
Network You're missing in the pregame show served up by Frostbrew,
Corse Light Choose Chill well Al. In the first forty
minutes of that game, it was the Connor Garland Show

(01:41):
for the Vancouver Canucks.

Speaker 3 (01:42):
He scored his tenth goal of the season midway through
the second period.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
He was a large part of a nearly four minute
shift for the likes of Jamie alexiak Oliver york Strand
on the ice for Seattle the krack and weathering that storm.
Matty Veneers pushing his goal streak to three games, also
scoring Vince Done his third goal in the last two
games against Vancouver, Andre.

Speaker 3 (02:05):
Berrokowsky adding two assists.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
So for the crack him they were getting big contributions
but could.

Speaker 3 (02:10):
Not salvage the extra point.

Speaker 4 (02:12):
No, and that that.

Speaker 5 (02:13):
Second period goal by Connor Garland as a result of
poor puck management by the Krack and not getting the
puck deep at the offensive blue line and gets turned
over Garland gets going the other way. That was a
dagger to Seattle that they had to battle back from,
but they did. In the third period.

Speaker 3 (02:27):
Maddy Benier's goals in three straight.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
Andre Barakowsky's got points in back to back games with
a goal and two helpers. With the good for Seattle
unfortunately comes to not so good. If you're Shane right,
Ellie Tolbenen, you're scaring a staring a ten game goals route.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
In the face for ottiber berck Strand you've.

Speaker 1 (02:44):
Not lit the lamp in eight games and against a
very high potent Edmondson Oilers team, you need those three
to get back on the offensive horse.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (02:52):
And it's interesting too because at certain points of the
season there have been guys that have been hot are hot,
and guys have been cold.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
And right now the.

Speaker 5 (02:58):
Guys that previously were hot are a little bit cold.
When they get it all going, nobody can stop this
cracking team.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
And on the other side, of the red line.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
Leon Dry Sidle for Edmonton leads the NHL with twenty
eight goals. Connor McDavid fourth in the NHL with fifty
four points. They are ten two and one partner in
their last thirteen games. So the Oilers last year's Western
Conference champions. They won three games in a row against
Florida to force game seven in the Stanley Cup Final.

Speaker 3 (03:25):
They have shown zero signs of slowing down.

Speaker 5 (03:28):
Yeah, and I'll talk a little bit more about this
in my keys, but there's no one guy on Theedverton
that you can key in on. You've got to make
sure that you play every ship shift smart, playing honest,
and be aware of not just the Connor McDavis, but
the Leon Dry SiZ titles, the Zach Hymans. There are
a lot of players that could hurt you on this
Oilter team, So you got to play an honest game.

Mike Betton with you back of the corpse light landing
in section twenty with the cracking record coming in right
now at seventeen to nineteen and three thirty seven points,
seven back of the cut line in the West, Edmonton
coming in at twenty three twelve and three forty nine points,
tied for second in the Pacific Division. You're oz by BETMGM.

(07:41):
The line with Edmonton at minus two hundred and the
over under is six and a half. Well, we said
this the other night when it comes to the third
period and the cracking up against the Canuts.

Speaker 8 (07:52):
No matter what the score is, don't go anywhere.

Speaker 3 (07:55):
Sends it across.

Speaker 10 (07:56):
Done fits Done plays hero once again buckheads Vancouver.

Speaker 1 (08:07):
He ties the Game three, three fifty two seconds left
in the third, a great zone entry by Matty Veneers.

Speaker 3 (08:15):
Who tishes it over to Burakowski. He delays, fines Fitz
done of the far flu line. Fit's done with a
twisted rister.

Speaker 12 (08:23):
This game's tied, second time in less than a week,
the Krack and overcoming a multi goal deficit to four.
Silver time for this time different and less desired, ending
the Krack and falling for three in a shootout to
the Canucks. Though originally down three to one, Matty Vaniers
help spear had the comeback at nine oh five a
period three and the power play done as you heard,
tied the game before JT. Miller won it in the shootout,

(08:45):
Kevin Lankin and stopping all three shots as well. Philip
Grubauer very strong and neted points where the Kracken needed him.
He had nineteen saves on twenty two shots and maybe
deserving a little bit better here taking the ot loss.

Speaker 8 (08:59):
In that one.

Speaker 12 (09:00):
Well, here's Ben's done with a crack and rat mentally
right now, three games out of the break, I think.

Speaker 8 (09:04):
It's been pretty positive.

Speaker 13 (09:06):
I know last game was disappointing with the result, but
I think overall, we feel pretty good, and we found
ourselves in moments of the game that aren't going so
well to dig ourselves out of it, so that brings
confidence within the locker room. I think you're starting to
see certain guys produce when they were struggling a little bit,
but by no means were they not playing well. So

(09:27):
I think just for their individual confidence, that's really good
for them, because everyone knows we're a team that needs
everyone on board and feeling good to win games. So
I think that's just important right now at this time
of the year, and hopefully we can straight a couple
of wins together.

Speaker 12 (09:40):
A couple more wins in the homestand would really do
some favors here for the Krack and who are underwater
right now in the playoff picture and now the third
hardest strength of schedule remaining the season their opponent's points
percentage since at five sixty six and up next year,
Edmonton on the slate four times and looking more like
that the Edmonton have last spring. These days here the

(10:02):
Crack and trying to u turn a two to eight
and one serious record all time against the Oilers. Beginning
this evening at home, the Crack and have dropped five
of six in the series. Seattle, of course, winless in
six right against Edmonton. Win this evening would be their
first overall against the Oilers since January third of twenty
twenty three, and the first at Climate Pledge Arena since
December third, twenty twenty one in the expansion season.

Speaker 8 (10:25):
Your lineup that night for the cracking to begin.

Speaker 12 (10:27):
Vince Done, Adam Larson, Yonni Gord, Ryan Donado, and Jonas
Donskoy up against Edmonton. They're in the second of back
to back games and the Oilers will play a whopping
nine games in sixteen days. The krack and looking for
any means necessary to slow down the Oilers offense. Edmonton
averaging four and a half goals per game all time
here at Climate Pledge Arena. Our cracking story lines, first off,

(10:50):
begin with Vince Dunn. He takes a stage here in
a big milestone game, the five hundredth of his NHL careers.
So what kind of night is in store for him?
Based on current trends, he could play a big role.
He's got a three game points streak six points in
that span, seventeen points this season, that third amongst the
team defenseman, but because of the injury bug, He's done

(11:10):
that all in just nineteen games and against Edmonton he
owns nine points in nineteen lifetime games. And here's morewood
done on the meaning of getting the five hundred NHL games.

Speaker 13 (11:21):
It's a big accomplishment for me. I think I've learned
a lot as a player and as a person over
the five hundred games. It's a lot of a lot
of time with a lot of different people that have
been packed in my life in a great way. So
I think just overall, my couldn't be happier the way
my game is transitioned. And I think just every year

(11:41):
as a person as a player, I've improved myself and
hasn't happened yet, But just excited to get out there
for tonight's five hundred.

Speaker 12 (11:49):
Our second story line revolves around the Matty Beniirs Jaden
Schwartz Coppocco line Baniers on his first three game goal
street streak in two years. A goal this evening would
give him his first four game run since he had
five in a row in early January of two years ago.
And as far as Schwartz, he loves this matchup. He
leads all cracking players in scoring against Edmonton with thirty

(12:09):
four points in thirty one career games in Compocaco, we've
seen his big presence on that line and fitting in nicely.
He's bagged three points over the last four games. And finally,
our last story line, the details game will begin with
puck management. The giveaway category not exactly a pretty picture
on the Kraken side. Recently, they've had more giveaways in
the opposition in four of the last five games, and

(12:31):
this evening they're facing a team with speed that is
generational who can feast on turnovers. The Kraken losing their
last battle in the giveaway category fifteen to twelve, so
they're going to be in good position if they can
keep the puck in their hands and work it efficiently.
Last thing they want to do the imposition to take
a penalty, because Edmonton is ten of thirty or thirty
three all time against the Kraken on the power play

(12:54):
in this series, more from the Kraken, and here's done
on defense where the meaning for him taking care of possession.

Speaker 13 (13:01):
Puck play is what's most important. We know they like
a transition game, so as much as we can slow
that down and possess the pack away from them. That
gives us the best chance. I think we all know
they're elite off the rush and very lead playmakers. So
for us, it's just controlling the puck and making sure
we're making it as hard as we can on their
data to break pocks out and not make it easy

(13:23):
to come back at us.

Speaker 8 (13:24):
Philip Grubauer going to be a net.

Speaker 12 (13:26):
He is three and four in eight career games against Edmonton,
taking the reins here for the fourth straight game.

Speaker 8 (13:30):
Out of the break.

Speaker 12 (13:31):

Speaker 8 (17:00):
Are doing more oilers things these days.

Oilers beat the Ducks three to two to get to
now nine wins last twelve games. Never since that six
seven and one start, they are seventeen to five and two,
outscoring the opposition ninety one to sixty two. Only team
in the NHL with more goals in that span the

(17:49):
Washington Capitals with ninety four. On top of that, last night,
dry Titles said his game could have been even better.

Speaker 18 (17:57):
I think the rest of the lines played pretty so
I think again it was mostly you know me that
you had a lot of turnovers and you know, didn't
really drive the puck deep enough to sustain anything. So
those those games happen, They're going to happen again, and
I'm aware of that, but obviously try to limit them.

Speaker 12 (18:18):
So the Kraken playing the team this evening that's as
deadly as ever and by that accounts still pretty hungry. Well,
you got to contend with here, without question, the most
lethal duo that plays this game on the planet. Connor
McDavid points in twelve of the last thirteen games, Leon
dry Settle leads the NHL with twenty eight goals. He's
got twenty one at even strength. The Oilers still missing

(18:39):
Evander Kane, by the way, abdominal surgery in September five
to six months is his timeline here as the Oilers
right now in the midst of playing in nine games
in sixteen days, are storylines for Edmonton. First off, their
power play eleventh overall they have those scored and for
the last five games on the road fit best in
the NHL and who else Connor McDavid, Leon dry Title

(19:02):
lead them right now with sixteen points apiece. Second story
line back to dryst title. Besides this numbers, he's got
a three game goal scoring streak named Ningshell Second Star
of the Month, thirteen game points streak, and only one
time has he been held scoreless year in this series.
That was the eleventh of November from this last year.

Back gets out of Climate Plagerina four game. Homestead rolls
in the game three tonight, Forcingattle. They welcome in Connor
McDavid and the Edmondson Oilers for the first of four
meetings on the season. Crack in two zero to one
in their last three games, partner outscoring teams by a
thirteen to nine margin. And if you're the Seattle Crackett,
you've been playing well, You've had some comebacks. You'd like

(22:16):
to not have to come back, and especially against this
Oilers team. What can Seattle do here tonight, partner to
avoid those pitfalls?

Speaker 3 (22:24):
Well?

Speaker 5 (22:24):
First of all, no shifts off. Edmonton's coming off a
three to two win against Anaheim last night where the
Ducks were able to hold Connor McDavid pointless for sixty minutes.
It will not be good enough just to focus on
shutting down one player, although if you have to pick one,
McDavid's a good choice.

Speaker 3 (22:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (22:39):
Instead, you will need to prioritize your defensive zone, protecting
the house, blocking shots, taking away second chances, and letting
Philip Rubauer see the shots.

Speaker 8 (22:49):
Secondly, no bad penalties.

Speaker 5 (22:51):
You faced better power plays before, but the Edmonton power
play is stacked with talent McDavid, dry, citle, himen, et cetera.
Limit the number of penalties you take and the number
of high powered, talent and talented power play opportunities the
winners will get. And then third, no overtime. Eppington's overtime
record is at seventy percent, sitting at seven and three.

Speaker 3 (23:10):
I think I did that math right.

Speaker 8 (23:11):
Hey, they have not been in.

Speaker 5 (23:13):
A shootout yet this season because they get it done
in overtime. This game has to be won in regular time.
The other team is beatable, but you need to play
an honest game, no shifts off, no bad penalties, and
no overtime, and you set yourself up to ascend the standings.

Speaker 3 (23:29):
By another two points. In the Western Conference of wild card.

Speaker 1 (23:32):
Chase, we talked a little bit in the open about
Matty Benier's goals in three straight points in four straight
Andre Brokowski.

Speaker 3 (23:39):
Starting to right his ship. Yep, a little bit. So
you're getting good production from those players.

Speaker 1 (23:44):
But on the other side of that, you look at
Shane Wright, Ellie Tolbenen, both on ten game goal droughts,
Otiver giorg Straam currently riding an eight game goal drought,
although he does have points in thirteen of his last
eighteen games. You need to get those three guys going
as well, and especially against this Oilers offense.

Speaker 5 (24:01):
Yeah, and when and when you do, that depth of
scoring just becomes unstoppable. Cracking offense. Actually have nine players
with seven plus goals this season, second in the NHL.
We talk a lot about their scoring from the blue line.
They can get it done there when all three of
those pieces get going.

Speaker 8 (24:16):
Look out.

Speaker 1 (24:16):
Speaking of getting a done, Vince Done is in his
five hundredth NHL game here today Mike Betton talking a
little bit about that earlier.

Speaker 3 (24:24):
He want to stay on a cup with Saint Louis.

Speaker 1 (24:26):
He was selected in the expansion draft, and he's really
elevated every level of his game. And those of you
who listen to his media avail from today he said
the same thing. He's felt that every year here in Seattle,
he's gotten better. You I JT were talking before the
game about you know, who would you consider the Seattle
Krakens tough guys, the tough customers, and he's up there

(24:47):
on that list. He does everything right for this team.
And it feels good to see him play in game
five hundred here tonight.

Speaker 5 (24:53):
Yeah, and I love when you get a guy that's
got that send paper part of his game, that's a
real team guy, stands up for everybody. But he can
also score, he said, the thirteen points since his return
at the end of November fourth and the NHL for defenseman.
So I love that about his game that he can
get it done both at the offensive end, the defensive end,
and when necessary with the fifth.

Speaker 1 (25:11):
Two one quick lineup chains Jonny Gord out of the
lineup tonight. Ben Myers, who was called up earlier today,
will be in, so that fourth line will read Tykarha,
Ben Myers and Brandon tanneb.

Speaker 3 (25:22):

in this conversation.

Speaker 8 (27:52):
Here's Dan Biosma with more insights.

Speaker 1 (27:55):
Ahead of this evening, We're back with cracking head coach
Dan Bilsman. Dan mentioned Matty Banier's goal less in nineteen
straight he now has goals in three straight points and four.
Has he turned the proverbial corner in your mind? And
what have you feeld has been the biggest differences in
his game the last four compared to the previous.

Speaker 22 (28:16):
Twenty keys for keys for Maddie's game, you know, is
really getting to utilize his skating in the middle of
the rink. And how can he do that? You know,
it's it's really using his wingers and them getting them
the puck on the move in the in the neutral zone,
coming out of d zone, and that's been happening more

(28:37):
and more from him. But really, you know, Maddie's looking
for perfection in his offense, and so he works extremely
hard to try to get the perfect shot in the
perfect play and just the shot and the goal against
Vancouver and Vancouver which is a rush play, it's a

(28:57):
three on four and it's it's not in the scoring area.
He just he has an opportunity to shoot the puck
and does it goes in the net. Then gave him
a lot of confidence that it's it doesn't have to
be perfect to get there, and you don't.

Speaker 3 (29:15):
Have to work and.

Speaker 22 (29:17):
Strive and kill yourself to make it be perfect before
you can score. And I think you know the second
goal even more, he said. We talked about it, he
said it after the goal in Vancouver. But the second goal,
which he has a chance the net that you know
goes out the end of a sick and goes wide
and he shoots it from behind the goal line and.

Speaker 2 (29:37):
Scores a goal.

Speaker 6 (29:39):
Now he's like, oh, you know, came back to the bench.

Speaker 22 (29:42):
And he's all smiles, and he's like, I just shoot,
shoot the pucket and it has a chance to go in.
And really the most encouraging part of his progression is
he gets the opportunity of the power play and the
bumper there and scores the goal.

Speaker 3 (29:57):
But four on four earlier in.

Speaker 22 (29:58):
The game, he had a rush opportunity and just cut
to the middle. It wasn't the greatest look on net
in terms of like, hey, you're all alone with the goalie,
but he took a shot.

Speaker 12 (30:09):
