On Saturday, Seattle turned out an effort worthy of two
points against the Detroit Red Wings. However, it was more
of the same and the results column for the Kraken,
who dropped their fifth game in a row. The team's
traded goals throughout the first forty minutes, skating to a
two to two tie heading into the third, and it
was Patrick came with two and a half minutes left

they would not relinquish. Tonight, Seattle continues it's three game
homestand against the Minnesota Wild, who have struggled in recent games,

to Minnesota Wild one of the hottest teams in the

When you get to that many games in the NHL,
you're doing something right. Indeed, third storyline here obvious one

that could use a big night. First off, can they
stay out of the box, That's a big question. But
if not, they're facing a wild team that can give

Now for a look at Minnesota, where this evening is
the final game of a four game road trip and
the first time they come off back to back losses
since October twenty fifth, So you could maybe expect a
bit of an Ansei or angrier bunch out of this
Wild team. Coming off a four to two loss of
Vancouver where the feeling was that they deserve better, and
previously a four to one loss in Calgary left head

coach John Hines has say that they got out played.
They began the year rough month in October and then
turned into an explosive team in November. After a player's
only meeting, the Wild one eleven to one and two
in November. Yes, Per Bolstad got NHL Rookie of the
Month oners and every since November one, the Wild one
point eight goes allowed per game. That's number one in

the NHL, also grabbing the most wins in the NHL
for the entire month, and this is a team that
under John Hines can certainly frustrate you, and they can
get out ahead in a hurry as well when scoring first.
Minnesota has done that in eighteen games this season. That's
tied for second best in the entire league. In their
record twelve three and three when they score first in

that stretch just one time as well. This year, they
also had a stretch of twelve straight games of scoring
the first goal of the game, so you'd figure getting
the first one on the Kraken side is super important,
but also a big challenge because of who's a net
that's their duo of Yes revol Set and Philip Gustavson.
Team say percentage nine to oh nine, that second best
in the league. Gustison starts here for tonight under their

platoon system, and he's been very, very tough to beat
on the Krakens side. Matter of fact, three to zero
in three matchups for the nine to six eight say percentage.
They're also a top heavy team on top of that,
though Carell Capriesov seventeen goals, Matt Buldy sixteen goals, rest
of the team forty five goals. Capriesov and Boldy accounting

for forty two percent of Minnesota Minnesota's offense. That all
in part of seventy eight goals that they have scored
on this season, leading us here to our first Minnesota storyline,
shutting down or slowing down their dynamic duo. Caprisov leads

I think from an offensive perspective. I thought we've been
good off the rush. We got to get more more

in the offensive zone, like for example, in Vancouver, we
spent I think seven and a half minutes in the offensive
zone but didn't get like enough high quality looks. So
we'd like to be better in that area tonight.

While speaking of the Wild going backwards. First, keys make
the Wild skate backwards all night long. Minnesota hates defending speed,
so the Kracking need to push the pace early and often,
like they're at seatack late for a plane to Maui.
Stretch the Ice, force their d to pivot and watch
the Wild realize backwards skating wasn't meant to be a
full time job. Secondly, smother their playmakers before they get fancy.

The Wild love a good east west setup, especially Matt
Boldi and Carill capriz Off, but if the Kraken close
gaps quickly and take away their passing lanes, the whole
Minnesota offense becomes about as dangerous as a nerf dard
Pressure early, pressure, often pressure until they start dumping pucks
just to catch their breath. And then Third, make the
net front Seattle's property. If the Kracking own the crease,

It's a big night tonight for a couple of members
of the Seattle Crack. At number one Chandler Stevenson skating
in his six hundredth NHL game, and you heard him
in that last interview with Mike Benton saying that so
many guys don't even get to one NHL.

Game he now has had the opportunity to now.

Play in six.

I think he gets a lot of unfair flack from
people around the media and all of that but he
is such an important part of this team and it's
great to see him get six hundred in the Cracking uniform.

Yeah, not just on the ice what he does out
there during the games, but off the ice as well.
You know, we've talked a little bit about how he's
welcomed Berkeley Catton into his house as a roommate and
what that's gonna do for Berkeley Catton's development. He's the
guy that's always put his hand up first and say, hey,
I'm gonna host dinner at my house. Hopefully he checks
with his wife first, but then all of a sudden,
twenty hockey players show up. So he's that kind of

guy where he can really help bring a team together.
Speaker 1 (23:37):
Also, Freddie Gadreau in his first game against his former
team after being traded here to Seattle in June and
again for the Krack and Seattle needed a fourth line centerman.
They needed a bottom six player that could still chip
in offense and adds some grit, adds a bit of
sand paper, some hard work. And you've seen that a
lot with Gaudreau this season.

Yeah.

Absolutely, And he got his first goal the other night
against Edmonton, and you know when you get that first one,
all of a sudden, you feel like it's gonna roll
from there. No, he's not going to be a fifty
goal scorer, but you get that first one, you get
rid of that zero, and you start shooting the puck
a little bit more, you start driving the net. And
it was a pretty goal of that too, It wasn't
off his leg and in so hopefully he continues to
generate some offense real quick.

Before we go, we can harp more and more about
special teams, and I want to talk more about the
scoring from the defenseman. Brack In this season have gotten
fifty three points from their back end. They've got four
goals and three assists from the d in the last
four games, and I have a feeling in a game
like this, Seattle's gonna have to be getting pucks from
all over the ice.

Yeah, before Brandon Montour got here, a lot of that
came from Vince Done, and you're still getting a lot
of it from Vince Son. But right now, Brandon Montour
leads the blue line with six goals. That's nine point
one percent of the goals for the team right now.
So not only Vince Done but Brandon Montour are leaned
on heavily to put pucks in the net, and lately
Adam Larson as well. You know who we lean on heavily.
Who gets all of the goals.

you know, if our power play isn't getting it done
over the course of two or three games, we've got
to coach it better. You know, it starts there. But
at the end of the day, your leadership group and
those guys, those captains and assistants within the room are
the guys that have to also drive from within. And
you know this is uh, this is where you know,

a guy like Jayan Schwartz is missed in these situations
and in these areas, and you know we have to
have other guys step.

Up another hit for the Crack d on the injury front.
Berkeley Catton now out week to week. How have you
seen his game grow and develop from where you first
saw him this past summer and in training camp? And
what type of love will this be for the Crack
and moving forward?

Well, it hurts our speed, you know he and it
hurts our playmaking ability. He makes as many plays as
anybody else. To be honest, with you, and you know,
at the end of the day, you know, he creates
opportunities and creates chances, and so you know, we missed
we missed that area. But the other thing and the

thing that I've noticed about him and how responsible he is,
is how responsible he is away from the Parker. So
you know, of all our young players, I would say
that he's probably one of the most responsible guys on
the hockey team. And that's been a good It's been
a really good thing to see because there's a lot
of trust that goes into Berkeley's game from the coaching staff.

who dropped their fifth game in a row. The team's

they would not relinquish. Tonight, Seattle continues it's three game
homestand against the Minnesota Wild, who have struggled in recent games,

Wings defense, scoring Seattle two goals and two assists from
their blue line in that game. Overall in their last

Montour and Larson with goals last game, Larson and Done
also with assist. This blue line gets about thirty percent

line to get it done.

On the other side of the red line, it's been
to Minnesota Wild one of the hottest teams in the
NHL in the last calendar month. They're won two and
one in their last four, but prior to that they
were nine oho to one in their previous ten games.
Their special teams has been rock solid as well. They
have gone a perfect twenty three for twenty three.

around Thanksgiving, because last game, a four to two loss
at Detroit put them oh four and one in the
last five games meeting, they're in for their first win
since the twenty second of November against Pittsburgh in that
string of four losses straight in regulation, the Kraken defense
in that span giving up five goals a game that's
most in the NHL PK also seven goals allowed last

nine chances, and the power play as well just one
of sixteen. So the Krack and trying to get back
to their fundamentals of what put them out to a
good start earlier here for this season. The offense though,
is showing good signs of a U turn as well.
They've scored seven goals last two games. But also, as

the offense as well, especially in that game two nights ago,

and the Krack of now fifty three points from defenseman
that's twenty eight percent of their offense and that's four
best right now in the NHL among team blue liners. Additionally,

of the last two games, and against the Red Wings
two nights ago they had seventy seven shot attempts, marking
a season high. But although while they're trying to figure

Jayden Schwartz out three games lower body ailment for this evening.
Noe Berkeley Catton he is week to week. He blocked
a shot two nights ago against the Red Wings appear
to be off his hand third period. That's what's put

Cracking story lines first up begin with Freddie Gudreaux facing
his former team for the first time since the trade

season was his third trip to the playoffs with Minnesota
in his career, so certainly emotions at the forefront of

He scored two nights ago against Detroit and that getting
in and out of a drought. He's looking for points

his career nineteen points in twenty three career NHL games.

Crazy how quick it goes. I mean to hear when
you're younger guys saying enjoy it because it goes quick,
and it's one of those things until it happens to you,

you think of I don't feel like I've had that
long of a career, but I mean when you see
the six hundred games, it kind of puts it all
into perspective that it does go quick and it is

a long time. So yeah, just specially, I think obviously,
like you said, it was a dream to play one
game and now to have six hundred It's pretty cool
that I was fortunate enough to play that many and
continue playing.

When you get to that many games in the NHL,
you're doing something right. Indeed, third storyline here obvious one
for the Krack and back end the penalty kill, and
that could use a big night. First off, can they
stay out of the box, That's a big question. But
if not, they're facing a wild team that can give
them a test for the ten best power play in
the NHL and the Crack and trying to reverse a

trend of just two clean sheets in the previous fourteen games.
The penalty kill got some reps for this morning at
morning Skate, where Lane Lambert said they had to have
a reset here essentially from a mental standpoint, but Ben
to Freddie Goodreau, who is certainly familiar with playing with Carill, Caprisa,
Matt Buldy, Matt and Zukarebo and others on the wild side,
and Gadreaux said defensively, it's all about situational awareness when

it comes to playing defense against the wild top players.

You gotta know when they're out there, when you're on
the ice, you gotta make sure you're decide. They got
some good chemistry too. They know and they know where
the other guys are. Kind of kind of feels, especially

the final game of a four game road trip and
the first time they come off back to back losses
since October twenty fifth, So you could maybe expect a
bit of an Ansei or angrier bunch out of this
Wild team. Coming off a four to two loss of
Vancouver where the feeling was that they deserve better, and
previously a four to one loss in Calgary left head
(15:26):
coach John Hines has say that they got out played.
They began the year rough month in October and then
turned into an explosive team in November. After a player's
only meeting, the Wild one eleven to one and two
in November. Yes, Per Bolstad got NHL Rookie of the
Month oners and every since November one, the Wild one
point eight goes allowed per game. That's number one in
(15:48):
the NHL, also grabbing the most wins in the NHL
for the entire month, and this is a team that
under John Hines can certainly frustrate you, and they can
get out ahead in a hurry as well when scoring first.
Minnesota has done that in eighteen games this season. That's
tied for second best in the entire league. In their
record twelve three and three when they score first in

that stretch just one time as well. This year, they
also had a stretch of twelve straight games of scoring
the first goal of the game, so you'd figure getting
the first one on the Kraken side is super important,
but also a big challenge because of who's a net
that's their duo of Yes revol Set and Philip Gustavson.
Team say percentage nine to oh nine, that second best
in the league. Gustison starts here for tonight under their
(16:32):
platoon system, and he's been very, very tough to beat
on the Krakens side. Matter of fact, three to zero
in three matchups for the nine to six eight say percentage.
They're also a top heavy team on top of that,
though Carell Capriesov seventeen goals, Matt Buldy sixteen goals, rest
of the team forty five goals. Capriesov and Boldy accounting

for forty two percent of Minnesota Minnesota's offense. That all
in part of seventy eight goals that they have scored
on this season, leading us here to our first Minnesota storyline,
shutting down or slowing down their dynamic duo. Caprisov leads
a team thirty two points he's got to goal in
three straight games against the Krack and Matt Boldy's second

on the Wild thirty one points. He owns thirteen points
in ten games. Had to head here against the Kraken

While speaking of the Wild going backwards. First, keys make
the Wild skate backwards all night long. Minnesota hates defending speed,
so the Kracking need to push the pace early and often,
like they're at seatack late for a plane to Maui.
Stretch the Ice, force their d to pivot and watch
the Wild realize backwards skating wasn't meant to be a
full time job. Secondly, smother their playmakers before they get fancy.
(21:25):
The Wild love a good east west setup, especially Matt
Boldi and Carill capriz Off, but if the Kraken close
gaps quickly and take away their passing lanes, the whole
Minnesota offense becomes about as dangerous as a nerf dard
Pressure early, pressure, often pressure until they start dumping pucks
just to catch their breath. And then Third, make the
net front Seattle's property. If the Kracking own the crease,

rebounds will fall like skate ball tickets and chunky cheese
screens tips. Second chances turn the front of the net
into a construction zone, and that will ensure that the
Wild will need a permit just to be there. In short,
Seattle needs to make the Wild ski in the wrong direction,
shut down their fancy ideas and turn the crease into
a kracking only vip lounge. Do that and Minnesota will

spend half the night shrugging shrooking at each other like
someone unplugged their game plan. If the Kracking really get rolling,
the wild might start wishing there was an express lane
back to bowing Field three bangers tonight that was by

the thing. You'd get that skip ball thing going, you know,
tickets to be rolling.

It's a big night tonight for a couple of members
of the Seattle Crack. At number one Chandler Stevenson skating
in his six hundredth NHL game, and you heard him
in that last interview with Mike Benton saying that so
many guys don't even get to one NHL.

Game he now has had the opportunity to now.

Play in six.
Speaker 1 (23:00):
I think he gets a lot of unfair flack from
people around the media and all of that but he
is such an important part of this team and it's
great to see him get six hundred in the Cracking uniform.

Yeah, not just on the ice what he does out
there during the games, but off the ice as well.
You know, we've talked a little bit about how he's
welcomed Berkeley Catton into his house as a roommate and
what that's gonna do for Berkeley Catton's development. He's the
guy that's always put his hand up first and say, hey,
I'm gonna host dinner at my house. Hopefully he checks
with his wife first, but then all of a sudden,
twenty hockey players show up. So he's that kind of
(23:34):
guy where he can really help bring a team together.
Speaker 1 (23:37):
Also, Freddie Gadreau in his first game against his former
team after being traded here to Seattle in June and
again for the Krack and Seattle needed a fourth line centerman.
They needed a bottom six player that could still chip
in offense and adds some grit, adds a bit of
sand paper, some hard work. And you've seen that a
lot with Gaudreau this season.
Speaker 15 (23:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (23:57):
Absolutely, And he got his first goal the other night
against Edmonton, and you know when you get that first one,
all of a sudden, you feel like it's gonna roll
from there. No, he's not going to be a fifty
goal scorer, but you get that first one, you get
rid of that zero, and you start shooting the puck
a little bit more, you start driving the net. And
it was a pretty goal of that too, It wasn't
off his leg and in so hopefully he continues to
generate some offense real quick.
Speaker 1 (24:16):
Before we go, we can harp more and more about
special teams, and I want to talk more about the
scoring from the defenseman. Brack In this season have gotten
fifty three points from their back end. They've got four
goals and three assists from the d in the last
four games, and I have a feeling in a game
like this, Seattle's gonna have to be getting pucks from
all over the ice.

Yeah, before Brandon Montour got here, a lot of that
came from Vince Done, and you're still getting a lot
of it from Vince Son. But right now, Brandon Montour
leads the blue line with six goals. That's nine point
one percent of the goals for the team right now.
So not only Vince Done but Brandon Montour are leaned
on heavily to put pucks in the net, and lately
Adam Larson as well. You know who we lean on heavily.

of the schedule, who are you leaning on as maybe
a second voice? Obviously the top one comes from yourself,
But is this a are you pulling Everley and Schwartz
and mcadd and the leadership group aside and saying, hey,
let's see if we can get these guys going. What's
that message and where does that message come from?

Oh?

Yeah, I mean obviously, uh you know it's there's this
is where leadership and leadership from within comes in. You know,
starts from I saw from the coaching staff. You know,
we have to be better as well, right, so it
starts right at the top, you know, the penalty killing
for example. You know, we've got to coach it better. Uh,

you know, if our power play isn't getting it done
over the course of two or three games, we've got
to coach it better. You know, it starts there. But
at the end of the day, your leadership group and
those guys, those captains and assistants within the room are
the guys that have to also drive from within. And
you know this is uh, this is where you know,
(28:40):
a guy like Jayan Schwartz is missed in these situations
and in these areas, and you know we have to
have other guys step.
Speaker 1 (28:47):
Up another hit for the Crack d on the injury front.
Berkeley Catton now out week to week. How have you
seen his game grow and develop from where you first
saw him this past summer and in training camp? And
what type of love will this be for the Crack
and moving forward?

Yeah?

Well, it hurts our speed, you know he and it
hurts our playmaking ability. He makes as many plays as
anybody else. To be honest, with you, and you know,
at the end of the day, you know, he creates
opportunities and creates chances, and so you know, we missed
we missed that area. But the other thing and the
(29:22):
thing that I've noticed about him and how responsible he is,
is how responsible he is away from the Parker. So
you know, of all our young players, I would say
that he's probably one of the most responsible guys on
the hockey team. And that's been a good It's been
a really good thing to see because there's a lot
of trust that goes into Berkeley's game from the coaching staff.
