Speaker 1 (00:00):
The following is a paid commercial by Black Girl's Sunscreen.
The views expressed are those of the sponsor and not
iHeartMedia or this station. Welcome to Shamelessly Chantey with your
host Shanta Lundy.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Good morning. You're listening to shan Lissie Chante and I'm
your host, Shanta Lundy. So, y'all, this rain has got
me totally messed up? Is La rain? Are y'all not
sick of it? It's been about three to four days.
Speaker 3 (00:35):
I am under the impression that is supposed to never
rain in southern California.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
Well, you're wrong. So the rain has really affecting me
because when I drive anywhere, everyone is acting like they
don't know how to drive. I also have five dogs.
Two of them are Golden Doodles. And for anyone that
is listening that hasn't Golden Doodle, they cannot be out
in the rain. They cannot because their hair, not for
their hair holds water, dirt, debris, all of that. So
(01:03):
the other day it was in my house it was raining,
I decided not to let the doodles out, But then
when it stopped raining, I let them out because they
need to run, they need to get their energy out
and I'm I'm on a work hall and I hear
my alarm say, laundry door open, laundry door open, and
(01:25):
I'm like, oh gosh, LaToya opened the door. LaToya is
the girl Golden Doodle. Okay. So I can't get to
LaToya fast enough. And LaToya and the mayor, the mayor,
her brother runs all around my house. My house is
all white, yeall, So I got mud dirt all over
the floors and the couches. That for some is an
(01:50):
outer body experience. Your demons start to come out. But
you know what, yes, like, God, darn it, get over here.
But I kept it cool. I stand on the phone
and I said, well, I'll just have to clean it up. Latoy,
get over here. LaToya hopping around like LaToya because she
knew what she was doing.
Speaker 4 (02:08):
Well.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
Their dogs too, though the fur was wet. Everything was wet,
la Ring Can you go away please? Please? Okay? Is it?
Can we wear sunscreen in the rain? Francis what's going
on at Black Girls on screen?
Speaker 3 (02:20):
So, in case you've been living under rock people, we
recently launched our Black Girl's sunscreen Vanilla Creme SPF thirty YEP.
We developed a vanilla infused sunscreen that smells amazing while
moisturizing and protecting your skin. It has ala leaf juice,
carrotsy oil, cacalci butter, and more. Jennifer B recently said,
(02:45):
Jennifer is one of our customers.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
Oh yeah, Oh you gotta preface it then. Oh I'm sorry, Okay,
Jennifer B. Hey girl, so she said.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
Jennifer said that Vanilla Crem smells like an amazing vanilla
lightly fluffy whipped cream dream. Can you imagine how that smells.
The texture goes on my skin so smoothly. I use
it daily and I just love the smell as well
as the feel. The consistency aligns with all the other
BGS products.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
That's it.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
That's all you heard it from. Jennifer Bee Enough said, Okay,
I don't know if I trust Jennifer Bee.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Let me go. Okay, fine, that was a glowing review.
Thank you, Jennifer. Thank you.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
Francis, Yes, ma'am, have you tried Vanilla Kreme? I have
and it smells amazing.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
Francis, you and I just had a conversation last night
and you said I did that You have not tried
Vania Dream.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
Yes, but I got the tube yesterday and I tried
it and it smells amazing. Okay, So years ago I
hated vanilla. I hated the scent vanilla, and I think
as I got older, I started to enjoy the scent
of vanilla.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
So I like it. I love it. Yeah, let it.
Let us sit sit for a couple of days, because
you just tried it yesterday. Vanilla Creme, y'all, is one
of my favor I know I can't please out today,
so raw, I can't please her. Okay, So Vanilla crem
right here, dad, is one of my favorite products. So
I was recently in Chicago this past weekend. It was
(04:14):
twenty nine degrees feet cold. I didn't leave the hotel
room anyway. I wanted to see what it was like
to order Vanilla crem from one of our retailers via Instacart,
and I wanted to get it the same day. Okay, okay,
because I like to have my Black Girl sunscreen product
for me. But I couldn't fit in my carry out whatever.
(04:34):
So I go to the instacar website and I choose
the store. The store was Alta, and I put Vanilla
Crem in the car and it came and arrived like
two hours later. Nice, and I was like, yes, Black
Girls sunscreen for being in Alta and then being on
instead for cards. Right, So if you all want to know,
you can get Black Girl sunscreen products very quickly. If
(04:57):
you want to use these. I don't know these mobile
apps or what are they called? Not food delivery apps,
but you know the things that deliver your groceries. Yeah,
what is it? I don't know because okay, I don't
use so anyway, I did this in Chicago and there
was no sun out, but I wore it and I
was smelling so yummy. I got so many compliments during
my event. Nice. Okay, I'm wondering if our next guest,
(05:18):
where is vanilla crem or just sunscreen in general? I
think if if you wear sunscreen it's a spray, what
do you think? I would say, it's the spray too?
Speaker 4 (05:27):
Okay?
Speaker 2 (05:28):
All right, all right, and you're listening.
Speaker 5 (05:30):
To all right, if you want to protect your skin, cry,
make sure you hear some Black Girls sunscreen urin gunde
sign bab just plating on your Black Girls sign screen alight,
black don't crack it doesn't Black people get sun burn too.
Speaker 4 (05:49):
As my cousin.
Speaker 5 (05:51):
If you want to protect your skin, cry, make sure
you get some black girls sign screen your bab just girls.
Speaker 2 (06:02):
So, Francis, what do we have sitting next to us?
Speaker 3 (06:04):
Today's guest is a season sales leader with expertise and
strategic business solutions, revenue growth and partner engagement across sports,
gaming and media. As Senior Director of Partnerships at Fox
Sports Playfly College Properties, USC, he develops fan engagement campaigns
that elevate brand connections. Previously, he served as a senior
(06:28):
account executive at Washington IMG and spent sixteen years as
a sports anchor reporter in Seattle, Phoenix, and San Antonio.
A University of Washington graduate class of ninety three, he
was also a member of the nineteen ninety Rose Bowl
and nineteen eighty nine Freedom Bowl Championship teams Cameron Wong
(06:50):
Ladies and johny.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
Caamne. Thank you.
Speaker 4 (06:55):
I'm glad that everybody got a chance to read the
LinkedIn profile.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
That's what you said, sir.
Speaker 4 (07:02):
I know it's because I was busy and I was like, Francis, here,
just take that.
Speaker 2 (07:05):
Okay, Okay. So there, so there's that. So you feel
like you need to rewrite it.
Speaker 4 (07:10):
Huh, No, I wouldn't say that.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
I'm updated.
Speaker 4 (07:13):
You know, it's very you know, very much LinkedIn.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
Yeah, okay, what were you doing in the rose bul Uh?
Speaker 4 (07:20):
You know I was doing I was watching a lot
because I was what you would like to call a
walk on. Okay, So back in back in those days,
you know, the early nineties and late eighties, a walk
on was basically a right done test pilot, is what
my position coach would say. So, uh, you know, we
(07:41):
would go up in there. We would play for free,
actually not play.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
This is in college.
Speaker 4 (07:45):
This is college. And we would go and knock on
the coach's door and say can I join the team.
They were like, all right, we need bodies. Okay, So
that's what that's what I was. I was just a
body for the scout team. And but I will I
will say that the walk ons are the heart and
soul of any college football program because if you have
(08:11):
good walk ons, that means you are pushing the scholarship
recruited players. And so if you're pushing those guys, the
last thing you want is to get shown up by
a walk on.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
Who's your who's your who's your favorite college team?
Speaker 4 (08:28):
Right now?
Speaker 2 (08:28):
Don't say USC.
Speaker 4 (08:30):
It is USC. Well, I work there, so it's kind
of you know, I see them more other team, but
I went to the University of Washington, so I believe that. Okay, naturally,
So out of those two teams, that takes up plenty
of my time.
Speaker 2 (08:45):
So can you give me top five of college college
team right now?
Speaker 4 (08:51):
In terms of what that you watch that I watch? Yes,
well I watched the ones that that mean a lot.
So if we're watching basketball, I watch, you know, certain
teams that I'm watching football, that's a whole different.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
Give me college college college football teams.
Speaker 4 (09:08):
College football teams. I personally like to watch teams with
good offenses, okay, because you know, I'm an offensive guy
who as a player, so those kind of you know,
spark interests, right, So of course Washington SC they have
good offenses. Also, like you know, teams like Ohio State
they have j R. Smith. Right, that guy is gonna
(09:28):
be a number one overall pick in two years. He'll
he'll be great, maybe next year if they'll let him.
There are a lot of good teams out there right now.
You know, we don't know what Alabama's gonna do. Penn
State will be good next year. So you know, there's
a lot of you know, good teams like Michigan. They
finished the season real hot. They started they couldn't do
(09:49):
anything in the beginning of the season, but by the
end they were red hot. We don't know how they're
gonna be next year. So they finished the season hot,
so naturally you think they're gonna be good in the
next year. So we'll see.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
Okay, Camp said, so you don't know, so, cam. So,
in your past life, you were a sports anchor and reporter.
How did you get into that? And what was the
last time you were on the mic? Two questions.
Speaker 4 (10:15):
I'll answer the second one. First, last time I was
on an actual broadcast mic was probably two thousand and nine.
Speaker 2 (10:25):
Okay, it's been a.
Speaker 4 (10:26):
Little bit because that that's a prior life and so,
but now I'm in sales. But you know, I was
actually talking to somebody that I work with who's in
their twenties. They asked about how I started a very
similar question, and I realized that I've been in sports
most of my adult life. You know, I asked, Hey,
(10:47):
what what year are you born? Blah blah blah and
all this, and I realized that I was doing sports
before you were even born's, you know. And so the
way I got started was I was a walker and
then you know, walk.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
On to the radio at Washington Oka.
Speaker 4 (11:03):
And so while I was there, I would see these
guys on the sideline with cameras and microphones. I'm like,
well they do it. Sounds like a pretty cool job.
So I looked into it. Found out I could write
a little bit. Majored in communications journalism things like that,
and you know, eventually, after you know, some painful years
(11:24):
of trying to get your first job, get your first job,
and kind of you know, goes from there.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
Well, your voice is nice and crisp. Have you always
been able to like listen to your voice or.
Speaker 4 (11:37):
Your voice? No, when I first started, I was awful.
I could not listen to my voice. So actually it
took you know, years of kind of you know, you know,
mastering that to speak, trying to speak, you know, to
enunciate and to speak more professional and not mumble things
(11:57):
and you know, just your natural kind of way of speaking,
you know, for broadcast. Yeah, I haven't even turned it
on now, this is just me talking.
Speaker 2 (12:06):
Turn it on.
Speaker 4 (12:07):
I can't do that. It's been since two thousand and nine.
Speaker 2 (12:10):
It's still in there somewhere. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (12:12):
Oh no, y'all can't afford that.
Speaker 2 (12:18):
We're gonna have to end your interview. Now, let's go
to the last four questions. Let's we were gonna give
him fifteen minutes on here, we're gonna Mike, Let's give
him eight. Let's go him and have you know what
shade the shape. But you know what, I got big
bucks over there, you see, So yeah you do, Sir Cameron.
(12:43):
All right, but you know what, we're talking business. Let's
talk business, sports and business. So how do you feel
like business has affected sports? Jersey sales and I yell
wherever you want to take it.
Speaker 4 (13:02):
Sports business, the business of sports right now is just massive. Right,
there are so many different avenues we could go down.
I was looking at your questions, say, man, we could
spend hours just talking about you know some of these.
The business I'm in is, you know, sponsorships and what
we call MMR, right's multi mediaites. Then you mentioned apparel.
(13:25):
It's a whole in licensing, whole other thing. You know,
there are new parts of it like fantasy sports and
pros daily fantasy. When it comes to you know, gambling, right,
and sports gambling and things like.
Speaker 2 (13:39):
That, and we can't do that in California.
Speaker 4 (13:41):
Right, Yeah, there's limitations dollar amounts. I think, yes, there
are limitations on what you can and can't do based
on what the game is, got it? What that is,
I don't know because I don't really gamble. But you
can do daily fantasies based on what those questions are.
(14:04):
I think they are. You know you do you understand
daily you know fantasy?
Speaker 2 (14:09):
Yes, I think I do. You get to choose your
people depending.
Speaker 4 (14:13):
On daily though daily fantasy.
Speaker 2 (14:16):
Now, I just know about the season. So every year
there's fantasy picks, right, group of people, they do a
whole thing.
Speaker 4 (14:24):
Okay, okay, so let's listen to real life fantasy question
right now. Okay, it's not sports related. That's like, okay,
since we're if we're all here and uh, say you're late.
You're never late, but say you're late and we're all here,
a way.
Speaker 2 (14:43):
To literally tell him to leave? My pronouns are my
pronouns are almost there.
Speaker 4 (14:52):
You need to appreciate that, right, So fantasy and say
you're late, no hypothetical, right, And then we're all waiting
around here and said, I wonder what chante is wearing?
What color is she wearing? So we all get a
bet a dollar each. We put in a dollar each
and say, all right, she's gonna wear black or white
or red, and we all bet. And so that's just
(15:12):
one bet of a few different So daily fantasy is
kind of like that. He's kind of betting on that game.
I think that wide receiver is gonna have you know,
over seventy five yards, you know, things like that.
Speaker 2 (15:25):
So does this roll into MMR.
Speaker 4 (15:27):
No, it doesn't because college has more restrictions when it
comes to daily fantasy and fantasy right because it's a
it's a mess right now in college because of things
like the house settlement and I L and things you know,
even you know goes into transfer.
Speaker 2 (15:48):
Anybody that's only daily fantasy is a fiend. Why you
say that, because like daily, we.
Speaker 4 (15:56):
Make it all it daily. It doesn't mean you're necessary.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
There's something but sports is on pretty much every day.
Speaker 4 (16:03):
Yes, yeah, you can do it if you Yes, a
black don't crack.
Speaker 5 (16:09):
Black people get sign burned too, as my cousin skimming
skin and women and for men on how this summer
streets got the beach some beach, yes, or.
Speaker 4 (16:22):
Just girl screen.
Speaker 5 (16:26):
Black, don't crack black people get so.
Speaker 2 (16:30):
Speaking of the Lakers, yes, how do you feel about
the conversation with Stephen and lebron.
Speaker 4 (16:38):
The one about him being weak? Is that the one
you mean? I just want to make sure what we
were talking about.
Speaker 2 (16:43):
I thought Stephen a was saying some stuff about Bronnie
and then his father checked him and stepped to him. Well, okay,
so o, Tanny and Mahomes are working with Fortnite, right.
What are your thoughts on regular sports and the esports
merging together.
Speaker 4 (17:03):
That is something that is naturally gonna happen because gaming
esports and those popular games like Fortnite are part of
you know, pop culture, and Mahomes and athletes on that level,
they're you know, they're the face of the NFL. They're
part of pop culture and very popular in terms of,
(17:28):
you know, visibility, and so it's natural that those two
things will kind of merge just because they're both so
popular in culture.
Speaker 2 (17:37):
I'm ready for Jalen to get on Fortnite.
Speaker 4 (17:41):
See here's the thing that's Fortnite. He may not play that,
he may play something else play. You know, there are
other games besides Fortnite.
Speaker 2 (17:49):
I know, I don't. Okay, okay, so Fortnite, what would
just can be?
Speaker 4 (17:54):
See that question is that I don't play Fortnite. I
play this game called Apex Legends.
Speaker 2 (17:59):
I don't play that.
Speaker 4 (18:00):
Actually I don't play Fortnite.
Speaker 2 (18:02):
No, I have it. Yeah, okay, I could tell you
what my skin would be, but I'm not telling you.
You asked me, I'm not telling you.
Speaker 4 (18:14):
If I could, I probably shouldn't say that, but if
I could drop my own skin and Fortnite, I played
it first when it came out, and then after all
these kids has just destroyed me, so I moved on
to another game. I will say, though, the Epic Games,
the company that owns Fortnite, uh, they've done a great job,
very similar to what Lego did with a lot of
(18:35):
the popular properties that they partner with. Like see Lego,
they you know, they got into Star Wars and Marvel
and all these other popular things. Seems like a similar
model that Epic Games did with Fortnite. They partnered with
all these different companies I think Marvel and Star Wars
as well to bring popular characters onto their platform, which
(18:58):
makes it more appealing for players. Just like you know,
maybe I should go back since I can get that. Yes,
Spider Man's skin or whatever it is.
Speaker 2 (19:05):
Right, Well, Francis, maybe maybe you could have participated in
the conversation if we were talking about Mario Bros. Or
Sonic the Hedgehog. Y'all see how she treats me. No,
but yeah, did you not play? So I did? Yeah,
and I.
Speaker 4 (19:23):
Mean back in the nineties.
Speaker 2 (19:25):
Yes, okay, we all did that, So that's not there
was no shade. It was just more about you know
what you could play? Yeah, okay, let's play a game.
Speaking of a game, we got a game. You want
to talk about the game? Francis, sure, So the game
is called yeah, no, okay, just yeah, no.
Speaker 3 (19:47):
I mean we're gonna give you a phrase, so yeah
or nah yeah, yeah, that's exactly what that is.
Speaker 2 (19:53):
Yeah, and it's kind of rapid. We're all gonna do it.
Speaker 4 (19:57):
Okay, how does it go?
Speaker 2 (19:59):
Yes, yea start you start to start.
Speaker 3 (20:01):
Yeah, I'll give the phrase and you just tell me yeah,
n right, Okay.
Speaker 2 (20:07):
Are you taking a full a full meal to the movies?
Speaker 4 (20:13):
Nah?
Speaker 2 (20:15):
Nah nah. But it also depends on the movie.
Speaker 4 (20:20):
Yeah, if it's three and a half hours with an intermission.
Speaker 6 (20:23):
Maybe maybe I think the Brutalion Have you been to
those movie theaters where they serve me meals?
Speaker 3 (20:32):
Yes, like they bring the meals to you. Yeah, okay, okay,
shoes on in the house? No, absolutely not.
Speaker 2 (20:43):
Definitely not. We we went from nas to absolutely not.
Speaker 4 (20:48):
Ll no, absolutely not.
Speaker 2 (20:52):
How are you on water? Would you take free cruises
for the rest.
Speaker 4 (20:55):
Of your life?
Speaker 2 (20:58):
Water?
Speaker 4 (20:58):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (20:59):
Would you take free cruises for the rest of your life?
Speaker 5 (21:01):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (21:01):
On water? I thought you meant drinking water because I'm
looking at the bottle. No, I would not, not.
Speaker 3 (21:07):
No, nah, no, hell. No holes in your socks or
your underwear. Okay, when I was little, I used to
have to keep my stuff. So when I was little, yes,
but now as an adult nah, same. So, yeah, you
(21:30):
had to with the socks. You had to roll the
sock and tuck it under your toe there so that
your toe didn't poke through the hole around.
Speaker 4 (21:38):
Right, so the big toes usually, so you turn around
so it's on the little toes.
Speaker 2 (21:45):
Are you a coffee drinker?
Speaker 4 (21:46):
Absolutely? I'm from Seattle.
Speaker 2 (21:48):
No coffee for the rest of your life, are you crazy? Okay,
no coffee for the rest of my life?
Speaker 1 (21:57):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (21:58):
Really?
Speaker 2 (21:59):
Yeah, I drink tea.
Speaker 4 (22:01):
I mean I drink tea. Too, but sometimes I just
need the boost.
Speaker 2 (22:04):
Yeah yeah, MINEU is uh yes, I'm okay with that.
I don't drink coffee.
Speaker 4 (22:12):
Come to my world.
Speaker 2 (22:14):
That's a skydiving.
Speaker 4 (22:19):
Uh yeah, So I have a story about that or
should not?
Speaker 2 (22:23):
Well, since you haven't been nice to me. No, so
sky Davin nah hell nah? Okay, DC or Marvel Marvel
for sure that that is this or that. But it
(22:44):
got in there somehow, Okay, I skip it. Skip it.
Speaker 4 (22:48):
Well, let's go on the characters. Which ones do you
like better?
Speaker 2 (22:51):
I don't know the difference. Forever Marvel for me. I
don't know the difference. So middle seat on an airplane,
oh no, I mean if I can help, I'm not
in that cabin, so I can't speak on it.
Speaker 3 (23:11):
Oh I got hit with the okie dog with a
middle sea I picked the seat in the two seater
and they changed the plane on me. No stories right now,
there no search right now.
Speaker 2 (23:29):
Come on, that's it for the nos is it. I
got front ROAs seat hockey and buy fet the game.
Oh I was trying to okay, okay, okay, Cameron. We
didn't really get into what you do on a day
to day, but I love the sports talk. I think
sports like for me, it's just it's just in my world.
It's it's almost it's in my face. I'm sad that
(23:51):
football season is over. I can't wait for it to
start back up. But anyway, I appreciate you stopping by
for for the listener. Do you want to tell them
what's next for you or you want what do you
want to say? Is your parting words?
Speaker 4 (24:05):
I would say that the next thing for me is
my personality, especially in the sports business world, is always
to be looking pushing forward. A lot of times, I
feel like there's a tendency to kind of, you know,
let's let's just stay back and do what we do.
(24:27):
But me, I'm looking to, you know, create different things
for brands, for partners and even for you know, the
school that I work with. And a lot of that
has to do with gamification on things. Guys think the
world is kind of headed heading that route anyway in
terms of gamification. So I'm looking to kind of expand that,
(24:51):
grow that and how I can you know, bring that
together to help brands that I work with, you know,
like yourself, Yeah he wants your money, I gotta come
up with, you know, new shiny toys for y'all to
spend the money.
Speaker 2 (25:06):
Yeah money. One of my favorite relationships in Black Girl
Sunscreen history. Cam, Thank you so much for being a
friend and a professional friend.
Speaker 4 (25:19):
Thank you. I mean I've had people ask me in
you know, different forums about you know, a name, you
know some of your parties, you know, what is your
biggest partnership, And a lot of times people just go
with you know, the massive deals, right, just dollar figures
that you're working with an agency, those are you know,
they come and go. Whereas ones that like ours, where
(25:44):
we just got on the phone one day talked about
some things and you know, I had this idea and
you understood the spirit of it and got to know
you a little bit better. So I, you know, kind
of all right, let's let's find something that really works
for you. And you know, BGS and I feel like
(26:04):
partnerships like that mean way more because there is a
a friendship aspect to it. Like when we talk, I'm
not just telling you stuff, right, I just see, hey,
how you doing. If there are things that hey, I
think this would be good for BGS, that's when I,
