Speaker 1 (00:00):
MGK in the house.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
Actually we're on his tour bus Hey, Columbus.
Speaker 1 (00:04):
Its soul here, MGK, how's it going?
Speaker 3 (00:08):
I've been staring at this line outside. I can't believe
people actually show up for us?
Speaker 1 (00:12):
Why is that so hard to believe?
Speaker 4 (00:14):
I don't really ever want to get rid of the excitement.
Speaker 3 (00:17):
That's kind of like the whole motivation behind making good
music or else.
Speaker 4 (00:20):
I feel like I feel like everything's deserved. Your music
probably going to start.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Sucking your fresh up MGK. Day or days. I know
that was like a three.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
Bad name, you know, because it should be it should be,
it should be a week?
Speaker 1 (00:32):
Is it actually August thirteenth?
Speaker 4 (00:33):
Though?
Speaker 1 (00:34):
Why didn't you guys start it? Do you want to
want to Friday?
Speaker 4 (00:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (00:39):
Fair enough, So let's talk about a lost American. Congratulations
on the album that just came out on Friday. That's
your seventh album.
Speaker 4 (00:47):
Damn. What I know?
Speaker 1 (00:48):
Damn is right? What's like going through your head as
you release it into the world. It's like out of
your hands now.
Speaker 4 (00:54):
I mean, I just stand on it.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
I made it with my with my best friends, and uh,
that's been the most mature writing that I've been able
to summon. From my brain, and I think we nailed
like a front to back, no skip album, and I
think it's meant to be played in the car, which
I'm sure many of you are out there in your
cars listening right now.
Speaker 4 (01:15):
Not to the album.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
I mean, hopefully once this interview is over, you should
immediately start listening to the album, kind of.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
Like when you were in the car and someone caught
you jam and out to cliche.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
Yeah, we're going to be listening to the whole album. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
I do listen to my own music.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
Do you Is that your number one thing you listened
to first? And then other artists?
Speaker 4 (01:32):
Uh? No, I like to listen to the SpongeBob Square
Pinn theme song.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
Okay, we're done.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
So the CD has thirteen tracks on it. Did you
have to cut any songs out of the album?
Speaker 4 (01:45):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:45):
We cut a lot of songs because we wanted to
make a statement that a short album is the right
way to go. You know, we're in a day and
era of like over stimulating albums because there's way too
many songs and I don't want to.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
Hear well, I'm I mean, the album's like forty five
minutes long. That's like a trip there and back somewhere
you listen in.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
Your little getaway. I love that.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
I love how you can tell that you just love
making music videos.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
You've made four so far on a new album, and
we got out Law Overturn with the release. Do you
have a favorite video that.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
You've made, Maybe one that you really got to have
creative control over.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
I was really satisfied by how polarizing cliche was, but
I loved the dancing and Vampire Diaries and out overturet
to me was like, oh, like him and his friends
are just truly having fun. And I had a polo
that matched the three houses behind me, which was like super.
Speaker 1 (02:42):
Reminded me of like Foolhouse.
Speaker 4 (02:44):
Yeah the houses, yeah yeah, yeah yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
Do you have a lot of like saying what you
want to do?
Speaker 4 (02:48):
Yeah? Yeah. We're self sufficient.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
Everyone calls you a fashion icon. It's no secret. MGK
is like its own style. Do you think your style
changes as your music evolves?
Speaker 4 (02:58):
Absolutely?
Speaker 3 (02:59):
I mean last album I was like, uh, laced in,
I was like bedazzled, Like my whole damn body was bedazzled.
I looked like a fairy princess on the last albums
that we are in a much different.
Speaker 4 (03:12):
World right now?
Speaker 1 (03:13):
How do you describe this one?
Speaker 4 (03:14):
Easy?
Speaker 1 (03:15):
Yeah, so laid back. I love that now.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
Obviously coming off MGK Day Days, your love for Cleveland
has never been a secret. What do you want that
to mean for the people? So you show up to Cleveland,
you throw this huge three day festival, what do you
hope that that triggers within them?
Speaker 4 (03:33):
So, I mean, that's a great question.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
I'm really pro championing the unspoken for and everywhere everywhere
on this side of the you know, not the hubs
of the country feel really left out of not just spotlights,
but even like tour dates and other things like that.
I just kind of, I don't know, I grew up
with an infatuation with everything I've learned from Cleveland, so
(03:56):
I even I mean, you know, just being able to
get people from Spain or I met this girl in
Target when I was buying the album from Sweden That's
Amazing with her mom, and I was, you know, I've
been to Sweden, like beautiful Full Country. I was like, why,
of all places did you choose to come to Cleveland?
You know, yes, yeah, it's cool that we can boost
the economy, just the tourism and all that stuff like,
(04:18):
I mean, I don't know, bro, it's I guess the
lesson is that like put on for your home down
or your hometown will put on for you.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
You are a complete testament of that.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
You started off, you know, from the bottom and cliche
enough mate to the top.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
And I think it's really cool for people to be
able to be like that could be us for sure.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
Got to talk about don't wait, Run Fast. That's really
cool that it's the official anthem for ESPN's college football.
What did you like, how did that even come in
the works? And like, how do you envision people digesting that?
Speaker 4 (04:47):
Because I played the losing party at the Super Bowl
I heard about that. I was just like, yeah, we need.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
A song with a mean guitar like and also it
was just the play on words of like you want this,
you got that, like basically like I don't know, I mean,
they wanted win, and if they couldn't, they probably wanted
like guns and roses, but they got us.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
So you know it's cool that you were like in
the trailer with.
Speaker 4 (05:07):
All the other kind of yeah, yeah, yeah, totally.
Speaker 1 (05:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
So we are your first stop on the Last Americana
road trip kind of going back to what you do
for the people. You do these free shows for your fans.
It's a cool thing for you, but what is the
main reason that.
Speaker 4 (05:22):
You do it? Dude? We just want excuses to play.
Speaker 3 (05:25):
I haven't played these type of venues in forever, and
this is like where you can get to actually see
this is.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
You know what.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
This is like comedians going to improps before they go
do their Netflix specials. This is like us working out
like we're essentially these are basically sound checks. If you
biffit in front of twenty thousand people in an arena,
it's different than being like in front of one hundred
and just you know, going oops.
Speaker 1 (05:47):
Are these shows more chill in a way?
Speaker 4 (05:49):
Though?
Speaker 3 (05:49):
Absolutely not, because I think everyone's like, oh, he's right there.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
People are freaking the fuck out.
Speaker 4 (05:54):
Yeah, that's awesome, So.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
Thank you so much for being here.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
You just announced that you're going to be doing a tour,
so that's super exciting, and anything that any breadcrumbs you
can give.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
Me on that, I'll announced first week of September. It's
a world tour and we go, Yeah, I don't honestly,
it's not because I'm not giving you this because I
literally don't know where we go, but we're going somewhere.
Speaker 4 (06:16):
We'll be at your mom's house September nineteenth.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
I love the new album. Thanks congratulations. We're so excited
for your show tonight. Thank you for your time and
for seriously being here for the fans. They have loved
you since day one, and it's amazing to see. Like
the second you post something, we rolled up at three o'clock, the.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
Line was long.
Speaker 1 (06:37):
A ride. I'm so proud of you. Thank you so much.
Speaker 4 (06:40):
MGK, thank you
