(00:00):
Hello, and welcome to Sports inthe City. I'm Haley and I'm Sally.
Well we are back for week two. We've two in a row for
my yo. We're doing it.I'm so proud of us. I know,
I'm really proud of us. Wereally got it together. Of course,
we had a late start this morningbecause you know what, if you
want to hear God left, tellhim your plans and our day just it

(00:21):
got mine got thrown off a littlebit by going into the power trip this
morning. I'm doing my first golfbet, So everyone needs to cheer for
Jordan's spief this weekend because I wouldlike to win a bunch of money so
I can spend it all on vacationnext week. So what is the golf
tournament this weekend for us? Nongolf girly, I have no idea.
I have no idea what golf tournament. I'm I just bet on. I

(00:43):
know it's in Illinois. I wasn'treally paying attention. Kevin Gorg was just
like, hey, do you wantto be a part of this? And
I was like, okay, whatever, Sure, So yeah, I'm betting.
I picked Jordan's beef, and Ipicked him because he was the hottest
guy left on the list. Okay, because the third to the last pick,
So well, hey, what elseare you going to base your picks
on? Right? I mean,I mean, yeah, it's a it's

(01:06):
a strategy. And I do likehis name. I do love the name
Jordan because Michael Jordan's so you knowwhat I mean. I love his shoes.
So here for it? All right, very good for it. I
like that logic. I hope youget very rich. How much can you
win? I think like a thousand? Oh, if he wins, it's
one hundred dollars per person if yourgolfer, If the golfer doesn't win,

(01:29):
if no one wins, to thehighest finish, pious placing person. But
if the your golfer wins, youwin two hundred dollars for everyone from everyone.
So if Jordan's speech were to win, I would win. There was
nine other golfers, so I wouldwin eighteen hundred dollars. Wow, which
I would love that. I wouldblow that so fast. From Europe next

(01:51):
week, so yeah, so Ithink you talked about a little bit last
week. But you're going on acruise. I am. I leave next
thursday, so we will have onemore episode before I leave, and then
we'll be off the next week. But I leave next Thursday, flying to
Rome, and then we're going toa couple different places in Italy, Croatia,
Greece, Slovenia. We're supposed togo to Malta, but we're going

(02:15):
to Slovenia instead, and then weend in Florence. So I'm very excited.
I've never been to Europe before. My brother and my sister haven't been
there either, and it's a familytrip, so I'm very very excited.
It'll be a lot of fun. It's the first vacation that all of us
will be on since we went toCabo for my mom's fiftieth two years ago.

(02:37):
Yeah, which you were on.You were my date. You of
course you were my plus one,so we got to share our little twin
beds. We had a great time. We did. We do travel very
well together. That's why when youand I are talking about going somewhere,
we're like, well, who elsedo we want to invite? We're like,
oh, we just travel really welltogether, so exactly, And we

(03:00):
were just saying, I just mentionedwe possibly are going to Charlotte, Yes,
get yes, Charlotte for the CarolinaPanthers game because my dad has graciously
invited us, so we might dothat. And I was thinking, well,
I was thinking the way here,I'm like, what do we really
want to do that? What willwe do? Yeah, we'll lay in
bed. We'll lay in bed.Hopefully we'll get a hotel with robes so

(03:23):
that the most important thing is thatthe hotel has robes, or I'll I
guess I'll pack my own. ButI was like, well, we'll probably
go out to dinner with my familyand then me and you will go out
and then yeah, right, we'regonna be up for the game super early.
Yeah, we'll go out after thegame maybe. Yeah, well we'll
maybe for like an hour exactly. That's what we're good for. We're good
for like two three hours knacks aftera game. I think, wait a

(03:46):
second, I just realized the howwrong that was for me to say I'm
good until one in the morning aftera game. I'm say, oh,
yeah, I misheard you. I'msorry. After I said that, I
was like, what am I talkingabout? I'm going to go to bed
after the game. I might we'llsee, we'll see what the battery drain
is on the family dynamic there. But anyway, so yeah, I'm super

(04:11):
excited for you to go on thattrip. That's going to be such a
cool experience. Yeah, I can'twait. I'm trying to figure out because
I land in Rome at like elevenfifty on Friday morning and we have to
get on the cruise the next dayat noon, and so I'm trying to
figure out how I can kind ofsee Rome and I really want to go
to the Vatican. I had tweetedthis, but I'm like, if I

(04:32):
don't go to the Vatican, Iwill have the most Catholic guilt of all
time if I am like at theif I am in Rome and I don't
go to Vatican City, I willI will never live it down. So
I'm trying to figure out. Andin college, art history was my favorite
class, and actually my boyfriend atthe time hated art history, so I

(04:54):
took his class for him, LikeI did all of the work, so
I took I took the same arthistory class at the same college twice.
It was like art history one ohone with different professors. But I took
his class because he didn't want todo it, and I was like,
well, I enjoyed it, soI was doing. You know, it's
some people will say I'm not smart, but at one point in my life,

(05:15):
I was taking five college courses atone time. I cannot believe you
like art history. I'm so surprisedto hear that. Really why, I
don't know. I mean, I'venever taken it, but it just sounds
hideous to me. Oh it says, don't you have to write papers and
yell all of that about art?Yes, and I love it. So,
Okay, I'm not good at atarticulating a visual I guess and interpret

(05:38):
and analyze interpreting art. I'm justI don't have that eye. So I
love well. I just love historylike I took not tibree. I took
ap euro History and ap Us historyin high school. It was yeah,
kind of a big deal. Whatever. So I love history. I really
enjoy it. And I've found thatwithin history, I love art the most,

(06:00):
honestly because if you can really seea time period and you really see
what was going on in that era, and I love it, and it
was just very enjoyable to me.I don't look like I don't love like
Picasso, and I don't love newerstuff like Andy Warhol does nothing for me.
But you give me Da Vinci,Michelangelo. You give me that stuff,

(06:25):
the classics. I'm somewhat of aclassic myself, and give me the
old school stuff and I'm here forit. And I just that I think
this is going to be really embarrassingto say, but whatever I've said worse.
I think I will like cry seeingI will cry seeing that artwork in
person. Yeah, Like if Iwere to ever go see the Mona Lisa

(06:47):
at the Loop, I would stopjust because it's it's lasted the test of
time, like so much has changedin the world and we're still staring at
these pieces of artwork. So soI'm people have enjoyed them. So yeah,
I love art I and I meanyou would never be able to tell
that from going to my house.Like in my house I have Taylor Swift

(07:10):
art where there's Emily, Hi,Emily, and hey girl, And yeah,
I love I enjoy it. Ijust I don't know how to like
put it in my own home.Oh I don't either. And I love
history too, I just art history. I don't know. It just sounds
like a nightmred to me. Butif you're interested, you can take that
class for me. Oh, absolutely, happy to happy to knowing that we

(07:32):
should do some museums and stuff.Sometimes I've been in no museums here.
Really, Yeah, I would loveto and I would love to see that
kind of stuff. Yes, absolutely, And you know, I just like
going to museums in general. Iwell, I love Chicago and the what
is that museum? Oh, Ican't remember what it's called. God,
my memory is so bad. Iwent there in college. I took or

(07:55):
in high school. I took humanitiesin high school. And we took a
trip to Chicago and we went toall we like, the Chicago Institute of
Art and God, and it's bySoldier Field. So I think I can
pictures to have like columns. Yes, it's really big. So we went

(08:16):
to the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Field
Museum, that's what it is.It's I would absolutely do a trip of
museums. I love to learn, and yeah, I know I come off
as such a dumb ass sometimes, but I actually really enjoy learning, like
I really, Yeah, that's whereI I get enjoyment out of that.

(08:41):
And yeah, I think that's whyI watched so many documentaries now because I
don't. I'm not in school anymore, not learning stuff, and I do
so many things that are dumb, like tailgate all the time, and got
got a big break from that.I have day the return, that's right,

(09:01):
and you can find us cooking withtailgate spices on Saturday. We will
be using tailgate spices on Saturday.I'm trying to well, I wanted to
do burgers, yes, but Idon't know if we have someone who can
grow burgers. I certainly don't trustmyself not to give everyone equal Ie I
can do it. Do you wantto do it? I don't care.
I get I cooked chicken free theother day and didn't kill you. I

(09:24):
mean at the tailgate though, Likedo you want? I mean, it's
not gonna be a crazy tailgate,but I don't care. I'll take it.
Well, yeah, okay, well, let's do burgers. And we
could do tailgate spices intentional grounded beefseason here for but what can we use
the skull seasoning on. That's whatI'm most concerned about, because they have
I know ausk so okay tailgate spicesdot com let's go, official sponsor of

(09:48):
the Minnesota Vikings and Sports in theCity podcast. We are in good companies.
Were Company are in good companies,So check them out if you haven't.
They have a skull seasoning, andI'm wondering what we can use it.
What we can use it for thetailgate too. We have to use
a season on the thing. Someonetweet us and tell us some recipes.

(10:09):
Yeah, because I love to cookand I do get great enjoyment out of
cooking for others. I just wantto make sure it's done right. I
don't want to use the seasoning inthe wrong way. Well, hey,
it's the preseason. This is thetime to get all of the all of
the kinks out. I'm gonna workout the kinks. We're doing our reps,
we're running our routes, and we'reseasoning our meats. So so okay,

(10:33):
So Thursday I cooked for you andLizzie's Friday, Kim cooked for us
and it was fantastic. But onour way to Kim's house, so we
went to Sal's godfather's for dinner onFriday and I picked Sal up. And
as I was leaving downtown to goto South Minneapolis to pick her up,
I could see in my rearview mirrorthat it was getting pitch black out and

(10:56):
it was what like five o'clock,Yes, and it had there was no
rain in the forecast. It hadbeen beautiful all day. It was so
nice out. And then I'm like, god, it looks kind of dark.
Sal, I pick up Sal.It's raining downpouring, and by the
time we get to the end ofthe next block, hailing golf ball size

(11:18):
hail. We have to pull overfor what probably ten minutes. Yeah,
and then it was still raining prettybadly on our I've never I've seen hail
before. I've never seen hail anywhereclose to this size. And it was
terrifying in your car. I thoughtthat the glass was going to break out
of the windshield, same or theside windows because it was coming in sideways.

(11:41):
Sometimes the roof you could just hearit downing, and we were like
hunched over, like holding I reallythought that something. I thought that was
the most scared of Ben in along time. It was very unnerving,
for sure, and I'm like,I don't know what to do, Like
where can we We had no optionbut to sit there from wait it out
for ten minutes and then so thenwe get on sixty two at Cedar and

(12:05):
by the time we got to FairviewSouthdale, sunny beautiful. It was beautiful
the rest of the night, right, it was crazy. But your car
we got out. How many dentsdo you think you have? Probably twenty?
Yeah, And I'm just like, are you even gonna bother with it?
I don't want to deal with it. Yeah, it's I don't even

(12:26):
know how much money. I mean, I'm assuming that would be a comprehensive
claim. So whatever that deductible is. So my entire street is just pummeledroid.
I think this must have been avery small pocket of where this hail
damage hailstorm happened. But when wegot home. So I have a rental

(12:46):
car right now, my Mustang GT. Your Mustang Mustang Sally. And speaking
of I have not heard an updateon my jeeps. So hopefully we have
a tailgate vehicle this weekend, otherswill be rolling in the in the GT.
Oh my god, that'd be amazing, it wouldn't It would be funny,
It would be I mean, itwould be fine for a preseason.

(13:07):
But so I've been driving that Ihave had so back in November, I
had some minor body damage from somethingstupid that I did. I never got
it fixed, just because I neededit for tailgate. Then I didn't want
to have a Mustang in the winteror some other inferior rental car, and
I just kind of forgot about it. So I already had a claim in

(13:30):
for that, and my car wasalready scheduled to go in at the end
of this month. Then my carwas vandalized two or three weeks ago.
Two weeks ago, yeah, sothat was another claim, and the body
shop got me in early. Sothat's two claims. So then this hail
damage happens to the Mustang. Thewindshield is broken. There's so it's it's

(13:54):
so it's making me sad. It'snot even my car. And I just
go and look at it and Ijust like pout because it's the it's a
pretty fun car, and it justlooks like it got shot up or something.
God, that's so bad. Butthank god we weren't driving that because
if the windshield was breaking, yeah, that would have been terrifify. So
anyway, I called yesterday and finallymade the claim because enterprises like you denied

(14:16):
all the coverages because you know, when you rent a car and do you
want this coverage? You want thiscoverage. I always just say no because
you have insurance on yeah for thatright. Well, so they're like,
no, you know you didn't.You declined all the coverage. So then
I'm like, crap, I'm gonnahave to pay another deductible a third deductible
because these are two separate events. So that's two deductibles plus this one.

(14:37):
And thankfully Progressive said nope, whenit's not your car that goes under liability
insurance, So no deductible. OhGod is good all the time. So
but I feel bad for everyone inMinneapolis this happened too, because they're gonna
be trying to get their cars turnedin and there's not going to be any
rental cars. The rental cars gotbeat to ship too at all. Well,

(15:01):
and I heard today when I wasdriving to the power trip this morning
that the hail damage messed up abunch of crops too, so like farmers
really suffered. Yeah, so it'snot just our beautiful cars, it's it's
crops too, which I hope itdoesn't mess up the rest of corn season,
because I was say, what crops, Yeah, probably corn. I

(15:22):
don't know. I'm not an elitefarming mind, are you. No?
But I'm curious about this because youwould think the husk protects the corn from
the hail. I don't know.I don't know. Someone's gonna explain that.
Someone tell us what we just need. Basically, our podcast is just
a list of things that we needpeople to explain that exactly chime in anybody.
So that was Friday. Then Saturday, I got tickets from K one

(15:48):
two to go on their boat cruise. They have done a series of boat
cruises on stillwater river boats all summer. I went to the first one,
which was Morgan Evans. It wasfantastic, so much fun and we had
the best time. And then thispast weekend was Jake Owen and I got
tickets as well, and I hadthe coolest experience. So Jake Owen is

(16:11):
fantastic and country singer. Yes,and he's coming back on September twenty first.
I can't wait to go see himagain. And so he was up
there and he was just kind oflike goofing around, played a couple of
songs and he's like, well,I'm gonna take some requests and everyone was
yelling, and I yelled alone withyou, and I kept saying it,

(16:34):
and then I was pretty close tothe front. I was like right behind
row one. I was right behindGreg Swedberg, so like, literally in
every video it looks like I'm obsessedwith Greg Swedberg because you can just see
the back of his head and soyeah, I was like, I was
pretty close. But there was somepeople on the side of the staging area

(16:55):
that were a little bit closer andthey were all yelling too, and you
know, he's like, Okay, what song? What song? And everyone's
yelling, and then he looks atthis girl in the front on the side
and he goes, I heard you. I heard your request, but I'm
gonna play all right. The darkhaired girl caught my eye, so I'm

(17:15):
gonna play her song, and heplayed Alone with You, which is the
song that I requested, and literally, like, if you look at the
video, he's eye contact with me. Why. It was the craziest thing.
And the girls in front of mewere like, he's singing that for
you. It was the craziest thingever. And then like I tweeted about

(17:36):
it, of course, because whatdon't I tweet about And this guy was
on the boat too, and Iwas like, because I think Jake Owen
just sang a song to me andthis guy responded, He's like, I
can confirm that I was there. And it was so crazy. It was
like I was like, oh mygod, he'd noticed me. And then
all of a sudden, I waslike, I'm back, I'm back.
It turns out I just need avery successful hot country artists to say I

(18:04):
caught his eye and then I'm totallyback and that's it and take your request.
That's all I needed. That's it. So, so did you talk
to him after? No? Itried to, and I texted Musk and
I was like, I will buyyou a million Miller lights if you get
me in front of Jacolin and hedid not respond. So I think.

(18:25):
So he got a divorce. He'sgot daughters, okay, which is great.
You know, I love a singledad. Like he's forty one,
which is super age appropriate for me. I like that age for you.
Yeah. And he was wearing mysignature color. He was wearing bright green.
Oh no, that's your signature colornow it is? It would have

(18:45):
ever guessed, I know. Andh Also, the only thing is like
I'm used to being the person inthe relationship that has the good hair.
He's got great hair too, Soit's like, are we going to be
competing? It's like, share whatwould I bring to the relationship. I
think you just compliment each other's hair. Doesn't have to be a competition.

(19:07):
Think there can be a great couplewith a great hair. I like that
for us in Green, but bothpeople are green with great hair, exactly
love that for us. I meanthere are worse things. Yeah, So
anyway, long story short, I'min love with Jake Owen. It's not
a big deal, but it isthe biggest deal. So yeah, I
finally fell in love. It tookthirty five years and three months. Well

(19:32):
what are we going to do aboutit now? Well, I'm going to
see him again on September twenty feetwhen he comes to the Uptown Theater.
And while he was performing, heplayed one of his new songs and it's
it says, if you'll be mySunday Cross, I'll be your Saturday Night.
So I'm going to make a signthat says, Jake, I'll be

(19:52):
your Sunday cross, if you'll bemy Thursday night. Because perform so whole
they'll catch his eye because he saidit's his evorite song off his new album
and it's all about a reckless mandating a goodhearted woman. And I was
like, well, I'm kind ofreckless though too, so one of us
is going to have to figure itout. So we'll see, Okay,

(20:14):
we'll see where it goes. ButI'm hopeful, you know what I mean.
So I haven't haven't written off loveyet speaking of reckless men. So
god O, what a segway.I don't. I've talked about this ex
boyfriend of mine a little bit onhere, but I don't know exactly what
all I've said about him. ButI had an ex boyfriend named Josh,

(20:37):
terrible to me. Terrible to me? Is this this is Josh you lived
with? Yes? So Josh andI lived together for like a year and
a half. But are we movedto the place I live currently in twenty
sixteen and he moved out in thesummer of twenty seventeen. Have not seen
him, talk to him, heardfrom him since then, except one day

(20:59):
when he accidently texted me something meantfor someone else. It did not end
well, okay, cops came,no violence, just breaking in and trying
to take stuff, stuff like that. So not a good ending to our
relationship at all. I'm at arestaurant near my house on Sunday before I

(21:19):
go to a show at the Armory. This is in my neighborhood, our
former neighborhood, probably five blocks frommy house. And I look up at
the bar and he's sitting there. What And I'm like, what the fuck?
Uh? So he's in my lineof sight, Like I'm not gonna

(21:41):
not keep looking over there, andso I'm like and I'm with a newer
friend, someone who came to townfor this concert, and I'm like,
Hey, my ex boyfriend's over there, and I think we need to go
talk to him because I had to. So I went and talk to him.
I was like, hey, Idon't think you're allowed in this neighborhood.
Oh my god, I've been ajoking way yeah, And it was

(22:03):
a good conversation. I'm glad Italked to him. I'm like, what
are you doing here? He's like, Oh, I'm going to a show
tonight. No. I'm like, yeah, me too. He's like,
oh yeah, Manchester Orchestra. Areyou going? Like yeah, got the
shirt on? You know, weused to see them. And I'm thinking,
like, why have all at Andhe still lives in No Claire,
and I'm thinking, why have allthe restaurants in the world that you can

(22:26):
go to, are you going togo to the one in this neighborhood?
Right? I don't mean to implythat it was to see me by any
means, But so I talked tohim for probably like five minutes, and
it was pretty good. I meangood as in nice and like light cordial.
I can't believe you. I can'tbelieve you came and talk to me.
I just can't believe it. Why, Like, who the fuck are
you? Like? I don't care, but that was interesting because he was

(22:48):
very flirtatious, okay, and textedme a little bit after, and I'm
just like, nothing weird, justlike emoji's like a blushing emoji and what
it's like that? Okay, rememberwhen we were at country Jam and we
talked about our ix. I don'tlike men who use emojis. I don't

(23:08):
necessarily either. I mean, itdepends on the context. If it's just
throwing one at the end of somethinghere and there, like, if it's
about as much as I use anemoji, then that's fine. Yeah,
But if it's like using an emojiin place of word or absolutely not yeah,
or just too or like expressing yourfeelings with only like a series of
emojis. I can't be doing allthat work, as I said, like

(23:30):
last year when I was dating ayoungster, I was using a half the
emojis wrong anyway, So I can'trely on that. But so that was
interesting seeing him. Oh god,how did uh? So? I don't
know, how'd you feel after that? Weird? I don't know, it
was fine, It's just it wasjust such a negative relationship that it was

(23:52):
just very nice to look back atit as just knowing you don't give a
fuck about that person. Yeah, anymore, like someone who has so much
control over my self esteem and myanxiety and my day to day happiness or
hell, he was very like temperamental, very hot or very cold, and
I would be in It was justa very dominant personality in our home,

(24:17):
and I became very submissive and justnot a shell of myself. So it's
like so funny. I don't knowif it's funny, but to beat looking
face to face with him and justlike I don't give a fuck about you,
that's honestly, that has to beso empowering. Yeah, I love
that for you. Though, Butthat just shows how much you've grown into
yourself the last few years and howmuch you've accomplished. And now you're like,

(24:40):
it doesn't matter what anyone does tome. I can still stand on
my own and I don't need tobe defined by that other person or my
relationship with that other person. Whenhe says, do you still live over
here, and I'm like, yeah, at the same place, And it's
just not that my place is byany means like a palace. But when
we were together, there was noway I could have afford it to live

(25:00):
there by myself. Yeah, Andthat was another thing you always held over
me, was money, and thatwas a lot over the reason I couldn't
move out when he was terrible tome, because I didn't have the money
to do it, or when Ihad it, then he would be super
nice to me, and I wouldbe like, Okay, why shouldn't Yeah,
so just so it would be like, Yep, I still live there.
Yep, I live by myself, doing it on my own. I'm

(25:21):
successful each ship. I love thatthough. That makes me really proud of
you. I was just a coolmoment. It's like you're still coming around
here a little loser, and thenI'm thinking, why would he come here?
And I'm thinking it's probably too cheapto buy an uber, so he
probably parks here and takes the lightrow like a bumb Oh my god,
which I don't know if that's anyway. Well, are we talking about some

(25:42):
sports sports? Yes, toy department. So there's joint practice today. There
is yes, joint practice with theTennessee Titans. I was gonna go.
I decided not to go today. You know, as much I love going
to training camp, it gets kindof old going by yourself because there is

(26:03):
a lot of downtime and you're justby yourself. Don't It's just not that
fun to be by yourself, Ifeel like, So I just decided not
to go. I'm gonna hopefully gotomorrow because I do want to see it,
and I do think that you'll learnmore in the joint practices than necessarily
the preseason game. I agree,So I do want to go. And
plus with watching Hard Knocks, yeah, getting kind of fired up about that

(26:26):
seeing them practice. The Jets practicewith the Panthers. There's been all these
little fights and these TIFFs, andthat's always fun to see those storylines.
Well, Hopefully I'll go tomorrow, but I only watch. I've only watched
one episode of Hard Knocks because,I you know, since I'm a golf
girly, I didn't get home fromthe golf course until about nine thirty last
night, and that is way toolate for me to start an episode of

(26:49):
a show. Are you serious?Absolutely not, so. I've only watched
the first episode, and thirty secondsin I was just so annoyed. I
was so annoyed by Aaron Rodgers andhis whole when he walked out on this

(27:10):
field for the first time and says, y'all have never seen this before,
have you? When everyone was cheeringand chanting for him, I was like,
come on, dude, like showsome humility. You're new Obviously he
I cannot argue that he's not afantastic quarterback. That's not what I'm arguing.
I just don't love his vibe,his ego. I don't love his

(27:33):
energy. I don't. I mean, he's pointing out to all these other
players, this is for me.This has nothing to do with you.
This is for me. I don'tlike that. That's that's gross to me.
That's gross. Also, I meannot sure, I'm sure that there
was a lot of people who wereglad to see him there and cheering for
him. But at least, ifit's anything like it is here, there's

(27:56):
people at the first day of trainingcamp regardless, that are there, cheering
and happy to be there. Yes, it's not that no one shows up
and then they find out you're hereand so they're all here. Seriously,
people cheer for practice squad players. It's exactly. People are sure it was
heightened, yes, but come on, I just yeah, it was gross
to me. And then all theJets players were fan girling over him too,

(28:18):
and I was just like, yuck, and you know, it just
it also makes me laugh though, because what did Aaron Rodgers dou played for
the Packers forever goes to the Jets. He's still in Brett Farve shadow.
Yeah, and obviously I've known thatand we've talked about that. But seeing
it on TV, like seeing himwalk through that facility wearing that uniform,

(28:41):
and I don't that facility actually looksreally nice to me. It looks great,
way better than I was picturing,So they must have something newer it.
So it's probably not where Brett Farvewas. But just thinking Okay,
you're taking the exact same journey asthe guy that you've supposedly one to separate
yourself from correct get out of hisshadow, and then you're doing the exact

(29:03):
same walk. It was. Itwas funny. Yeah, So I do
like the Jets coach love him.Yes, Oh he's okay. First of
all, he's really cute, salehand I just I like his energy.
I love his vibe. And thenI think it was their their defensive coordinator.

(29:29):
He was holding a meeting and hesaid something that I absolutely loved.
He was like, every single guyin this league is doing their job.
It is not enough for you tojust do your job. You need to
do more. And obviously I'm nota professional football player. I'm not on
that pay scale that's above my paygrade whatever. But I think that's something

(29:51):
that we can all take into ourselvesthat it's not just enough to do our
job. It's not just enough toput forward a one hundred percent effort.
You need to do more. InI look in that at that in like
all facets of your life, andit kind of brings me back. You
haven't watched the Bear yet, haveyou? No? Okay, well,

(30:12):
so in the Bear they put tapeon their like clear containers in the freezers,
whatever, and at one point thehead chef he sees that people are
ripping the tape instead of cutting itand making it perfect. Well, Gavin
Cayson came in and talked to meetSauce and Corey Cove about that, and

(30:36):
Gavin said something he goes watching thatit's infuriating because it's like, why would
you wake up every day and bemediocre and just rip the tape? Why
wouldn't you take the time to cutit and make it perfect? So that
kind of correlated. That's what broughtme back to when I was watching Hard
Knocks, and it's like, exactly, why would I wake up every day

(30:56):
and choose to just do my job? Why wouldn't I try and do better?
So yeah, so I you know, parts of Hard Knocks were very
infuriating for me, just the overallenergy. I did think it was cool
that Lee of Schreiber came to practiceand when he's walking out of the helicopter,
he's like, I wish I wouldhave iron my shirt or something.

(31:17):
It was just very it was veryfunny. So parts of Hard Knocks I
really appreciated. But the Aaron Rodgers. Stuff was just so something that I
could not stop thinking about. Andlet me know if you agree with me
on this. When their coach, his mannerisms, the way he looked and
how he was talking, I couldnot stop thinking about Joel Kenneman. Do

(31:41):
you know him? Yeah? Fromthe killing? From the Killing, and
he's he's for all mankind and whatelse? He was in House of Cards,
don't they I mean, obviously they'rea different race, but look at
his face kind of they looked somuch alike when he was talking. So
I kept thinking about that. Andhis voice is super deep, like like
Joel's. I just like the wayhe carries himself too. Yeah he's Yeah,

(32:05):
he seems like he would be agood coach to be under. Yeah.
I didn't mean it like that, but yeah, there is one thing
Aaron Rodgers said though, that resonatedwith me, and I hate myself for
this. I hate myself so muchfor this. He said, we got

(32:27):
to work on our manifestation power didsay, and I'm just like, damn
it, Aaron. I was like, that is the one thing he and
I agree on is that you manifestthings. So I was very upset by
that. I literally wrote it inmy notes. I actually so. I
liked whatever however they're producing it thisyear. I like how they're putting it
together a little more than they've donein the past. For one, I

(32:51):
I can't believe I'm gonna say this, but Aaron's actually not driving me that
crazy that initial start, Yes,I was like gagging, but I think
and I don't know, he's Idon't put it past him that he's playing
this up for the cameras because heknows he's gonna be on HBO and he's
an expert at doing all of that. Yeah, usually except for when it's

(33:12):
in the middle of the game andhe can't control his emotions on the sideline.
But he seems a lot lighter.Of course, progressives calling me right
now, he seems a lot lighter, and he does genuinely seem interested in
the younger guys. I didn't mindthe younger guys fawning over him because they

(33:34):
are twenty five years old and theydid watch him when they were kids,
so that doesn't bug me so much. I like it that he's being nice
to them and encouraging them, becausewhat we've heard in the past at Green
Bay is that he's did not welcomingto the wide receivers, was extremely rude
to Christian Watson, Yeah, andmade him uncomfortable in the locker room.

(33:55):
And you know, obviously he hadhis issues with me, So I'm happy
to see that he is it seemslike trying to build relationships with people,
and so he doesn't. I'm goodwith him for now. It he did
humanize himself a little bit to mewhen he was talking about his relationship with

(34:16):
Hackett, who is now the offensivecoordinator, got fired from being the Broncos
coach, and obviously Sean Peyton hadcalled him out or whatever. And I
really did like how Rogers said thatHacketts encouraged his players to celebrate good things
and make things with their teammates fun. Didn't look like Rogers was having very

(34:37):
much fun last year, So maybehe might enjoy himself a little bit and
not be such tool, I guess. Yeah. And he was talking to
Zach Wilson. He was helping outZach Wilson. But I think it's also
a little bit different because you know, Jordan Love was brought in to replace
him, where he knows Zach Wilson'snot replacing him. Yeah, speaking Sean

(35:00):
Payton though, did you hear thatJared Allen is working with him? Yeah?
What that is? There has tobe a conflict of interest there,
like how could you go work withSean Payton after bounty gate? Bounty gate?
How could you? Like some peoplewant to believe that Sean Payton didn't

(35:20):
know about bounty Gate and he wasn'taware and he was in the dark.
Even if even if that were true, he was suspended for an entire year.
So I don't believe that. Idon't think that he a head coach,
doesn't know what's going on with halfof their team, correct, But
Jared Allen to go and work fora guy that robbed you from going to

(35:43):
a super Bowl and they would havewon that year, the best like season
of his professional career for sure, and he goes and he's working as an
assistant to Sean Payton on coaching thedefense. It just don't get it.
And I've seen people say I askedChris Thomason to get to the bottom of
this and he didn't respond, whichis very strange. Guess he must be

(36:07):
working on is Denver girlies now.But that's a Chris Thomasin thing to ask
is totally a Chris Thomason question toget to the bottom of. I've seen
people say, well, maybe itwas an opportunity there and you didn't have
any others what any almost any teamin this league would be like cheered out
on. Oh you want to comein and help with our defensive line in

(36:27):
training camp? Come on in.It's not a year long commitment. It's
a I just and I don't meanthat he needs to be in Minnesota doing
that. It's just to do itfor Sean Sean all coaches. Yeah,
there's thirty one other teams you couldhave done that for. I just don't
get it. No, but maybehe's not bitter like like we are with
you. We're better on Twitter?Better on Twitter? Yeah? Or X

(36:51):
we're better on X. Oh god, we're bitter XES. Now that's not
a good I'm not an X.Well, sure, we're on the football
train. Another documentary we both watchedUntold Johnny Manzel, we did What did
you think of it? So,I, for I was hoping that it

(37:13):
was a series. I didn't realizeit was just like an hour and twenty
minute documentary. So that was kindof a bummer. Yeah, I'm not
necessarily sure how I feel about it, There's there's a lot of issues.
What was going on with the NCdouble A and all of that is insane.
It's it's crazy to see how hewas treated versus how Reggie Bush was

(37:36):
treated, right or much more outlandishbehavior and making way more money. Why
didn't he get his heisman taken away? And Reggie did? I don't know
when he seems like he made millionsof dollars more than right, I don't
do we even know how much Reggieeven made. It was nothing by comparison.
No, Yeah, So okay,so this is on Netflix. It

(37:59):
came out last week on August eighth. And I so at that point when
Johnny Football was a huge deal,I was a Notre Dame fan at the
time, Like, excuse me,well, I was along with being a
Gopher fan, I was a NotreDame fan because I went to Michigan Notre
Dame that year and it was insane. So that year and that's these so

(38:21):
Manti Tail was up against Johnny Footballfor the heisman. So I was all
in on that and I was sopissed that that Johnny Manzel won. And
then after that, that's when Iwas very sick and in the hospital for
a month at the time, hademergency surgery whatever. So I don't remember

(38:44):
basically the next year of my life, which is when things started to really
fall apart for him. So forme that was really interesting because one it
took me back to a very tryingtime in my life and then this I
did realize everything was going on.So yeah, to me, it was

(39:06):
insane how much money everybody was makingoff of him. And I understand why
he would want to make money. You got to do it the right way,
but which now you can, youcouldn't back then. But so the
most thing, the thing that stuckout to me the most is that the
A and M Foundation raised seven hundredand forty million dollars during his freshman year,

(39:30):
and that's the most they've ever raised. That's thirty three hundred million more
than they had ever raised at themost. Yeah, and the whole like
their new stadium is because of him, because of that money that they raised
on his back, and that isan insane amount as someone who works for
a foundation, that's insane amount ofmoney to raise. And you know,

(39:53):
and when he's talking about how he'ssigning hundreds of footballs at a time for
all of the donors and stuff likethat. So it's like he's not getting
paid for that, but the universityis. So it's like, why is
that? Okay? You know?Yeah, And that's obviously been a debate
forever about college athletes and should theybe paid. And I totally understand it

(40:16):
too. It's wrong that he doesn'tget didn't get a percentage of any of
those sales, and it's wrong forany college athlete, but especially somebody who
takes a program to the next levelin the way that he did. And
so I totally get why he wantedto make money as well. I would
feel the same way, right Itjust it was so interesting how he never

(40:40):
practiced, supposedly, how he wouldbe out on vendors and not even go
to sleep. Oh my god.The story about him at at the not
the draft, the combine, wherehe's like, he shows up and he's
got to drinking four gallons of waterand he's taking a bunch of drug tests
word ever to just and then hecrushes its interviews and then goes out on

(41:04):
the golf course on Houston to tryand be the first pick in the draft.
Ends up shirtless and wasted on thegolf course. And actually last night
when we were at the golf course, I was wearing a polo and then
I had like a a bra topof sports bra underneath, and I got
so hot and sweaty I took myshirt off and I felt like Johnny Football

(41:25):
on the golf course. I meanit's like a workout top that wasn't like
I was literally in my bra right. I was like, I'm Johnny Football
right now. I wasn't. Iwas not wasted, and I did not
break my club, but I didtake my shirt off. So there's that.
So I did have something in commonwith Johnny Football last night. And
then and like how stupid are theBrowns that Johnny Manzel's new manager comes comes

(41:52):
in and calls him and he's like, no, you should really take Johnny
Football, Like he's gonna figure itout, it's fine, whatever, And
then the Browns move up to takehim at twenty two, Like, no
wonder they are such a defunct disasterof an organization. Well, what what
event was it? Was it thecombine? I don't think it was the

(42:13):
combine, but where him and hiswide receivers that were going to be there
for the tryout, went out thenight before and the wide receivers were too
drunk to make it to the Yeahtryout, and so his agent had to
go out there and catch passes.I mean, honestly, it was like
a comedy of errors. It's likeeverything that they kept saying, like this

(42:35):
can't be real, you can't actuallybe it just went to his head,
you could tell, because at thispoint he's already living this crazy lifestyle.
He's friends with Lebron James, He'sout at the at the clubs, the
LA clubs, he's all in thetabloids and the magazines. He's on ESPN.
I mean, I remember at thattime he was on Pardon the Interruption
and all of those shows, twentyfour seven, and he just fed into

(43:00):
you the attention and being the hatedyou know, the guy that everyone loved
to hate, and that's was hispersona and he did it very well.
But how was it not obvious toeveryone on the outside that this dude was
getting paid a lot of money underthe table. And they say that they
made up that his family was wealthy. No one checks, and the internet

(43:20):
sleuth like could defun bunk that.In two minutes if they cared to look,
did no one use read it?Like? What is it? He's
an oil his parent to an oiltycoon. That's pretty easy to figure out.
So that was one thing. Isit just seemed like but really what
what was? He could not getout of his own way, He could
not get away from his self destructivebehavior, and so it it was frustrating,

(43:47):
you know, to watch that, but I could relate to it in
some ways. So and it wasjust so how he gets to the league.
He gets to the Brons and hesays, I just I never really
wanted to be a pro quarterback.Yeah, I never wanted to be this.
When his agent's talking, he goes, yeah, I get a call
from the coach and he's like,he's not looking at film. He's like,

(44:09):
come on, he's got to belooking at him. It's like his
iPad hours or zero point zero?Right? What did you not even just
turn your iPad on? I mandidn't even charge it. So and apparently
he never did that kind of stuff. Every just was always just winging it
and it rowed up for him.Yeah. Well, the craziest story for

(44:30):
me is the day before a game. So Saturday afternoon He's like, I
think I'm gonna go to Vegas andhe shows up in the d He's got
a disguise on. Everyone's like, dude, that's Johnny Football in Vegas.
And then he's looking at like Deltaflights to get home, and I'm like,
he's got a game the next day. I'm like, bro charter a

(44:51):
flight. He's like, I didn'tknow how to get home. I'm looking
at like commercial flights. I'm like, you can't hop on a plane in
Vegas and be to the beat tothe game by would you show up like
common at eleven fifty five but belike I'm here still drunk and cooked out
from the night before. What areyou doing? Yeah, it was very
self destructive. He didn't say thathe had any sort of addiction issues,

(45:15):
even though he did go to rehaba couple of times, but and he
was still drinking in the documentary. So I don't want to say that he
is, but he obviously just couldn'tget out of his own way. It's
very self destructive, and I thinkhe liked being Johnny Football and that persona
more than actually producing on the field. And if he hadn't had like that,

(45:38):
that game against Alabama to beat liketheir first year in the SEC him
he's a freshman. I think Alabamawas ranked number one and Texas A and
m was like seventeen or something likethat. I mean, it was insane
that he won, but he wantedto be the guy but didn't want to
do anything to continue to be theguy. Yeah, yeah, it was.

(46:01):
It was super interesting. I absolutelyrecommend watching it. He what was
your opinion? I know you saidthis was you don't remember a lat from
the time, but do you rememberhaving an opinion about him at the time
if you wanted him to be inthe drafted you baby, The Vikings were
looking for a quarterback. That's whenthey got Teddy. I didn't. I
didn't want him because I was Iwas mad that he won the Heisman over

(46:24):
man Tito and I was like,he's a nightmare. He just seemed that
went with it. Yeah, doshe party boy? Yeah? I remember
thinking because he you know, therewas as in the documentary you can see
there was so much debate about wherehe was going to be drafted and when

(46:45):
he was way down there in thetwenties. I just remember thinking, I
just did not want the Vikings toget him. I so did not,
and of course, you know twitterat the time, that's what they all
wanted. And I I remember itlike it I remember it like it was
yesterday. I was bartending a BuffaloWild Wings, working on the patio bar,
had to go to the indoor barto get something, and it's the

(47:07):
Browns took him when I was inthere behind the bar, and I literally
like kneeled over and like breathe thehugest side of relief. I was so
happy that they did not pick him. Truly aware were you moment? Yeah,
but I did feel for him.Even though it's not a documentary where
he's trying to get sympathy or makeexcuses for himself at all, he kind

(47:28):
of just still comes off like adouche bag, you know, an he
owns it, so good for him. But I could relate to it because
I can see everyone watching it andjust being so pissed at this guy just
pissing all of these opportunities away andnot taking it seriously, something that you
know, most people would do anythingto be in his position, and just
blowing millions of dollars and stuff. And I feel like I could kind of

(47:52):
relate to it in a much smallerscale, but just messing up and wasting
opportunities that were presented to me,or not making great decisions, self destructive
behavior that messed up like jobs orschool relationships, definitely, and just always
having that regret and still even tothis day a lot of things that I

(48:15):
think about. So I can't imaginebeing him and having all of that on
my conscience all of the time, that not only do you have all of
these thoughts about yourself, but everyonein the country thinks that you're just a
huge fuck up and saw your downfallis so public. And I do think

(48:38):
I do think he's still kind ofa douchebag, but I feel like he
is much more self aware now. When he said at the end of the
documentary, he's like, at thatpoint in his life, he was incapable
of being a good NFL quarterback,And he's not saying he'd be a good
one now, but he's like,I know, I was incapable of that,

(49:00):
and he was diagnosed bipolar, Sohopefully he's getting the help that he
needs with that. And I meanthat can obviously factor into the decisions he
was making and the ways he wasliving his life whatever, But I do
feel like he's very aware that he'sin the place in his life that he

(49:22):
is because of the decisions he yeah, and he's not blaming anyone else.
No, No, so I respectthat. And the bipolar mentioned was such
a little blip, like if youdidn't catch it, you wouldn't he've even
known, he said. It wasn'ta conversation, it wasn't an excuse,
it wasn't a rationalization. No,it was just kind of it happened.

(49:44):
He's like, it happened, andhere's where I am whatever. Like,
so, I I think he's avery interesting character. He's a character,
is how I would describe him.I would agree. But it was Yeah,
we probably spoiled it for anyone whohasn't watched it yet, but it
was good. I was so surprisedat the end, though, to see

(50:04):
that A and M had him back. Well, they made a ton of
money off of them. I wouldhope they dogs them all the time.
You know what else was weird?Cliff Kingsbury, Yes, who is now
the coach of the Arizona Cardinals. No, he got fired. He's at
USC. Oh, yeah, I'msorry he got fired. But at the
time of recording this, he wasstill the coach of the Arizona Cardinals.

(50:27):
How many years did he make itthere? Two? Three? I think
two. Well, when you're aquarterback playing call of duty all the time.
Yeah, So yeah, who istheir new coach? By the way,
I don't know. I guess we'llsee him next week. Yeah,
but Cliff Kingsbury is in this documentarywho I didn't realize until this was the
coach at A and M. Sohe got promoted to the NFL because of

(50:49):
Johnny Manzel and he's just joking aroundlike, oh yeah, that's just Johnny
right. It's like, no wonderhe acted this way. He had no
discipline from you guys knew he wasout getting black out drunk well, and
his parents were like, you guys, figure it out. He's your problem
to the coaches and stuff. Oncehe was an adult. I mean,

(51:13):
there's only so much you can do. They don't live, they don't see
him every day. They don't Imean, if you're seeing your kid on
ESPN partying like and blowing every opportunity, I think you would step in.
I'm not sure about what consequences canyou give him, Like, as a
parent, you can't give him anything. I mean, And I don't really
know what a coach could do necessarilyeither other than suspend them, which is

(51:35):
gonna, you know, impact theirjob performance. But it just seemed I
don't know, he just he wasjust seemed like it was his buddy,
like it was his best pal, even when he was a coach, like
he was out there taking shots withhim off the ice luge or something.
You know, he went to me, he just went to bed one hour
earlier than vibe. I got.Have you ever taken a shot off in

(51:57):
ice luge? Oh? Yeah, yeah, have you? Yeah? And
actually I did it a h NewYear's Eve party, and like from when
I was going two thousand and fifteento two thousand and sixteen, and at
that time, I don't think thisguy follows me anymore. But a player
for the Minnesota Vikings responded to myphoto with heart eyes when I was taking

(52:22):
Yeah, yeah, I might havea guess, Yeah that's the guy I
went on a couple of days with. Yeah, that's what I was thinking.
It probably was in the day.Oh god, I have I haven't
taken one in a long time. But I guess I never really understood,
like, what's the point those thingsare expensive and they smelt ice sculptures in
general are so expensive. You knowwhat I want. I wouldn't want to

(52:43):
take a shot. I don't wantbecause I don't like taking shots anyway.
But like if someone poured McDonald's dietcoke donald into my mouth, that would
be Heaven't you know what I mightdo that for? Yeah, that actually
that doesn't sound half bad. No, that would be fun. But otherwise,

(53:04):
like it comes so slowly down itlike I remember taking Yager mister off
of it, and it just comes. You got to sit there with your
mouth open all this time and justhave it. You just realize when I'm
taking a shot, I'm trying totake it as quickly as possible, right,
Like I don't want this Jager misterlike slowly filling up my mouth so
I can follow it. Just takethe just take the shot. So we

(53:28):
don't need all these new creative waysto get alcohol into our system. No.
So talking about the ice slush remindsme of a me mysa yesterday.
It says, what's something I cando besides get married where I can be
the center of attention and everyone criesand tells me how beautiful I am so
now I'm thinking about that. Whatcan I do? Because at that event,
I want to have an ice lushwhere someone pours McDonald's diet coke down

(53:49):
it into my mouth and I justwant everyone to watch and be like,
that's her at her finest, justchugging McDonald's diet coke and like a beautiful
into it. We'll start looking intoice luge. Maybe I have a really
says, maybe someone wants a sponsor, and ice company wants a sponsor the
podcast. We'll have it out thetailgate. Yes, that would be amazing.
Tye Coke would come to our tailgatediet coke luges. Okay, well,

(54:15):
we gotta wrap this up. Andwas there anything else when we check
my note chair? Yeah? So, oh so you've only watched the first
episode. Okay, I'll watch episodethe second episode. Yeah, anything else
I had we can talk about later. Perfect. Well, I am going
to end it on a quote froma co worker who is not in my

(54:37):
office, but in another chapter inin Throughout the Country, and she was
talking about her journey. She alsohas Crown's disease, and she started working
for the foundation as well, andshe's not a fundraiser by trade, much
like me. And she kind offell into it because of having an Ellis

(54:58):
and then Ben a volunteer with thefoundation, much like I did. And
she said, I don't do everythingperfect, but I do it with heart.
And that just hit home with mebecause definitely, in my role,
I don't do everything perfect perfectly, and but I do it with so much
love. And I think that's howwe should approach everything in our lives,

(55:22):
is not to have the expectation ofperfection, but to doing it with the
most love, because that's how thingsend up being the best. Is when
you have put forth your best effortand you've put forth your passion and everything
that you have into it, itbecomes the best and it probably turns out
much better than if you were tryingto pursue perfection. So I hope everyone,

(55:45):
I hope everyone does everything with heartthis week, so especially the Saturday
night Vikings game. Yes, Iturned to us Bank Stadium. Let's we
need a lot of heart in there. We do we do when you put
your heart into it. I andyeah, I'm looking forward to it.
If anyone wants to stop by thetailgate, say hi, I'll be grilling

(56:06):
burgers we'll be growing tailgate spices burgers. Let's go okay, so roll the
boat, skym, Go go first, Go Go first, and skull Viking Bye,

New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
