Wild and Found for Amber. Whyand why alund b b bather Amos a
brief aliund mother, one of thefinest instrumentalists of all time and in my

(01:17):
opinion, the greatest guitarist the ThirdStone from the Sun has ever seen.
We're opening up today's episode with JimmieHendricks and his band, The Jimmy Hendricks
Experience. They're the musicians behind thismasterpiece known as Voodoo child Slight Return,
the final track off of their finalstudio album, Electric Ladyland, released in
October of nineteen sixty eight, justunder two years before Hendricks tragically died of

(01:42):
a drug overdose at the age oftwenty seven. It's, in my opinion,
their best song, but I knowsome other people might have different opinions.
My dad's favorite Hendricks tune is theWind Cries Mary from their debut album
Are You Experienced? But you cannever really go wrong with any Jimmie Hendricks
song at all. Yeah, youjust can't. But welcome back to another

(02:04):
episode of Studio three thirteen. It'sbeen a minute, but we're back at
it. Plenty of delays, buthere we are. We're coming at you
from the University of Nebraska Lincoln's Citycampus here in Anderson Hall, home to
the College of Journalism and Mass Communications, affectionately known as the co j M
set. Now it's been a minute, Dynan and I have been up to

(02:25):
a lot of different things. Youknow, we got plenty different extracurricular commitments,
and just classes are picking up.Finals week is next week, and
then we're done. So yeah,I mean we're on the move, dyn
We're growing up. We're growing up. We're grinding, we're getting through it.
But plenty of things to talk aboutWe've got. I mean, I
was doing job interviews for a bankingfirm in Minneapolis. I was doing job

(02:46):
interviews here right, and I wasconducting some I was interacting with the community
through NHRI peer mentoring events. Youknow, I've had I got no shortage
of topics that we could hit on. But nothing is more important than the
Dome Crew four v four intramural flagfootball season, Dylan, Isn't that right?

(03:06):
That is insanely correct, Daniel. The season has already begun and ended,
so we're here to run it upreal quickly before we introduce our very
special guest. Now. Game one, it was my finest performance of the
season. I had two touchdown catches. One of them was like full length
of the field. I did kindof the over the shoulder track whole way
Jerry Rice type moment. Mister DillonSash our head coach. He was very

(03:30):
impressed, very very impressed. Brandonand Barrett. The Twins got it done
on offense. Trevor held it downto the secondary easy forty to twelve when
the other team wasn't very good. Now, game two, I had one
touchdown catch, but I picked upa two point conversion right after. And
you know, other team, theypresented good offense. They kept scoring over
and over and over again, butthey couldn't stop us on offense. We
went a barn burner fifty eight tothirty four. Now, coach even got

(03:53):
a step on the field. Thenfor a little bit on my one PPR
one catch for three yards. Hedid see action. He did see action.
Now the third game is where itit's controversial. I had a quieter
game, only one two point conversionand a couple of smaller catches. But
a grave coaching er from Dylan Sash. Yeah, that one's on me.
I let it get the best tome, you know, my boy,

(04:14):
Andrew was getting chirped out there, and I wasn't gonna stand for that,
so I said, dirty Dan,sub it out. And then and I
realized I made the grave mistake oftaking Daniel out. Indeed, but we
put Andrew, you know, allof his five to seven if we'll give
him that extra inch, smaller guy, smaller guy against stay nice I don't
know, six three wide receiver.Yeah, so it didn't end well for

(04:36):
him. He got that key coachingair and I'll pass from Trevor that was
behind one of the twins got pickedoff. That led to our forty two
to thirty eight loss. And thenwe were already in postseason. Instead of
the usual four games, we hadthree games before four season this year exactly
now our fourth game of the seasonpostseason, five thirty, a lot earlier

(04:58):
than usually. That's not our time. I mean, we're at night We
are a nighttime team. You putus in the primetime slot and we're winning,
but we're it's like the opposite ofKirk Cousins, Kirk shines and that
new slot. We we don't dothat. We're a prime time team.
But y sir, this game wasvery back and forth. We were going
tip for tat for a while.I caught one two point conversion that was
very controversial because I was very clearlyout of bounds, but I was given

(05:20):
the two points they gave us.I mean you were like, not,
no, he wasn't just like onthe line, he was like sixty inches,
very clearly out of bounds. Butwe take We needed those two points
because we went into overtime where weplayed sort of a college football style,
just two point conversions over and overand over, easy, easy, and
our season ended when we tossed. We tossed it to was it Braden or

(05:41):
Barrett would have been Braiden. Itwas Braden who Trevor slinged it to his
flag was pulled just short of theend zone, and we lose forty to
thirty four in a heartbreaker. Thiswas supposed to be our revenge too were
Dylan. I don't know what happened. We had you know, we got
our arrivals in the We would haveif we had won our arrivals. Finger
puppet Mafia. We have yet tobeat them in anything. We gotta play

(06:02):
them. We gotta play him atsome point in time. Well, we'll
get him eventually. We'll schedule thatthat doesn't need to be official. That
can be We'll get that off thebooks. That can be. That can
be an off the books game. But in conclusion, after a solid regular
season, we face an unfortunate firstround playoff bounce. Now, if we
had our Special Guests in the room, if he was on our team,

(06:23):
we would have mercy ruled every singleteam moment by a vicious, vicious amounts
of points. Because you gotta rememberthese the guys on these intramural teams,
they're washed up high school jav Youknow, oh, I could have gone
Daniel. Respectfully, you're talking aboutour whole team. I am talking about
our whole team. But Brandon andBarrett are electric. They kick some button,

(06:44):
Trev Cans slinging around. But ifwe had our Special Guests in the
room on our team, we wouldhave won every game. Our last episode
featured Amon Green, a former Huskerrunning back who established himself as a starter
here for many years. He wason the ninety ninety seven national championship squads.
But now we've got a current Huskerrunning back, yes we do,
who was completing his red shirt freshmanseason here. He is hailing from Saint

(07:10):
Paul Minnesota or aren't you from there? I am from Minnesota. What a
fantastic observation from our observant co host. I he hails from Minnesota, just
twenty minutes from where I grew up. I went to Eastridge High School.
He was from the Academy of HolyAngels, Minnesota. Mister football in twenty
twenty one, please welcome Emmett Johnsonto Studio three thirteen. Emmett, thank

(07:32):
you so much for taking the timeto be here. We really appreciate you,
man. Man, I appreciate youguys too. Man. It's a
blessing to be here with you guys, and just blessed on a guy through
football. Absolutely. Man, that'sto see that, that's what it's all
about at the end of the day. Now, I've always been fascinated by,
like, like I was just talkingabout these Yeah, these are these
high school athletes who, no matterwhat happens, they still think they've got

(07:55):
it. They always think they couldhave gone d one. Emmet's out here
actually doing it. Emmett, howmany touch is touchdowns are you putting up
in a single intramural flag football game. How quickly are your mercy ruled this
team in a single game. Ina single game, how much time is
you get? Two? You gettwo twenty minute halves running clock twenty minute
a half twenty minute halfs ten ona on a decent day in a single

(08:20):
game. That's a lot of time. I mean, if you give me
that much time. You know,I've seen the tape. I've seen you.
You're a huddle highlights, you know, just looking up Emvitt Johnson hop
on your recruiting profiles and you gotthat top end speed, the agility.
I see you moving side to side. It works, man, it works.
So you know, obviously you're heredown in Lincoln, but you had
lots of other offers from colleges, you know, across the Big ten and

(08:43):
whatnot. But you know, reallywhat brought you down here to you know,
the great University of the Nebraska. In other words, what were you
thinking coming to Lincoln? Uh?Okay. So started off my sophomore year
and that was a year I thinkI started to gain college interests and attention
from schools. And I was small. D you one guy? You know
a lot of smaller do you want? Schools are hitting me up? You
and I Northern I would be myfirst scholarship, and so, you know,

(09:07):
I was really underrecruited, but Ijust went out there every season and
just went hard and took my offseason serious. And then Nebraska was my
first Big ten scholarship scholarship, andyou know, I was just blessed with
the opportunity to come down here andgoing to visit, and so my family
fell in love with it from there. Coach Brown who came down to Minnesota.

(09:28):
Sure, I just got done witha Bible study with him, like
just before where at the stadium.Yeah, we have it like once a
week. So he does a greatjob with that. So he came down
to Minnesota, visited my school,my family, and he was just really
welcoming and I knew the history behindNebraska running backs and so just looking at
that, you know, it's agreat place for me to come in and

(09:50):
just you know, make an impactright away. The fan base, you
know, ninety thousand fans, youcan't beat Abraska fan base, and just
coming here. Uh, I definitelysay the academic part of it as well,
but just being a great fit forme and being a school that can
come in and you know, dogreat things on and off the field.
Yeah, it's a big part forme. So all I needed was one
big, you know, big tenscholarship and that's when Nebraska blessed me with.

(10:13):
So I'm just blessed to be hereand can't wait to see what the
future has for me. Absolutely.Man, Like you said, you know,
Nebraska's got a storied history for producinggreat running backs. We've just had
one of them on the show,Aman Green, and you just said,
you know, you were working witha Mere Abdulah and practice, you know,
getting yeah, get getting pointers fromhim. What's that like? Working
with the former backs who have notvery recently, but they've somewhat recently been

(10:35):
in your shoes, just grinding, trying to make make the starting roster.
You know, it's always great tolisten to you know, great running backs
that came out of here because youknow they've been there and they've they've done
that. You know, a Merehas played in the league. He currently
still plays for the Raiders right now. He's been doing a good job there.
So just getting advice from them andjust knowing what I have to do
is just Oh, it's big forme because I'm always gonna try to,

(10:56):
you know, gain as much adviceas I can as I'm here, use
all my res horses, and justtrying to be the best running back I
can be. Those are all goodrunning backs, but you know I'm trying
to be the best too, Sojust getting a little pointers for them has
just been grateful. I've been gratefulfor it, and I'm just blessed to
be here. Right. Someone's gotto be the top dog. And mm,
it's grinding every day to be outthere. Man, it's gonna it's
gonna be a good season next year. I'm real excited. Man, it's

(11:16):
gonna be a firm one. Theprocess of coming down. You know,
from Minnesota one day, you're literallyyour name to mister football. You are
the guy in Minnesota, your topdog. Senior year, you average like
two hundred and twenty five rushing yardsa game, video game numbers. It
looks like I'm playing Matt when Iwhen I see the numbers. Now come
you go from that to coming downhere, and you know you're towards You're

(11:37):
you're you're working away from the bottom. You're towards the back of the depth
chart again, just grinding for everysnap you can get. So what's that
transition like when you go from beingthe man to just just another guy grinding
on the roster. I'll say,you know, it's been an easy transition
for me, okay, just becauseyou know, even in high school,
you know, my freshman year,I've always been the underdog. I've always

(11:58):
been, you know, starting fromthe bottom, and just coming here and
playing against other talent made my gamerise. And yeah, I've been getting
better. You know, I hada last year. You know, even
though I didn't play as much asI wanted to, I was still you
know, getting stronger and faster.I was still going hard in practice and
everything. So I would say justyou know, trusting the work and trusting
you know, trusting God, justkeeping faith the whole time. I know

(12:18):
it's tough being the man coming intocollege. A lot of people think,
you know, everything's gonna be handedto them. But I'm blessed that.
You know, last year I wentthrough a year where I learned a lot
and now you know, I gotfour more years of eligibility, I got
a lot of experience. So it'sjust been you know, I'll say,
adversity is my biggest strength right now, and so going through what I went
through last year, you know,it was just great for me. Now

(12:39):
I'm just gonna you know, takeadvantage of every moment I get and every
chance I get to prove it toyou know, the fans, Coach Rule
and everybody that you know, I'ma playmaker for this team. So absolutely.
Man. Yeah, as we've youknow, briefly mentioned, you know,
we had a mind green on thepodcast last episode and he kind of
talked about, you know, withcoach Osborne here practices where you know,
hell on or say the least, especially with Coach Rule coming in here.

(13:03):
Did you kind of see a shiftor anything or how did you feel about
practices kind of when that happened.Yeah, I definitely saw a shift,
you know, the discipline aspect ofit. Just you know, we we
bond better as a team now becauseyou know, we're more disciplined and you
know, we're doing everything with eachother, so we go through a lot
of tough moments together and I thinkthat really has been building us. Cultural
has been doing a good job withthe team, and you know everything that

(13:26):
he preaches and talks about is likewhat I've already been doing. So that's
a good thing for me. Youknow, the showing up to you know,
class, just being everywhere you're supposedto be on time, right aspen
stuff I've already been doing. Sojust him bringing that in, I think
it's gonna help us play well onthe field as well as off the field.
You know, just built that bond. We hear a lot about the
discipline that he's building and how everyone'sdoing everything together. What does an average

(13:46):
day or practice look like for you, Like, say, leading up to
the spring game that was a fewweekends ago, what would an average day
of train look like? Uh,we didn't practice every single day those three
times a week. Okay, youknow, so I'll say a regular typical
day. You know, wake up, we're out five am in the morning.
You know early. Did you sayfive in the morning? Yeah,

(14:07):
be enough. I'm not gonna lieI got up at five five am this
morning. I'm not doing it tomorrow. I can tell you that right now.
That's how it goes. I am, eat breakfast, I mean meetings,
you know, then go to practice. You know, practice is up
tempo from the start. You know, we're getting stretched lines and everything,
and then it's really just we're reallyjust practicing hard all day, going through
drills, going through some teams, team sessions and everything. But yeah,

(14:31):
typical practice, just high intensity. You know, a lot of dudes flying
around. You know, everybody's justexcited to be out there with each other.
And you know, every day Ijust tried to go out there and
just be the best I can beon the field and just try to practice
deliberately, which is just getting betterat one thing every day, like setting
a goal for myself. And Ithink I had a really good spring.
I had a really good spring.I'm excited to be here. Yeah,

(14:52):
I'm just blessed. I'm just I'mjust curious. Coach Rule music guy.
He let you guys listen to musicin there. Yeah, I mean he
he lets us listen to music. But you know, when it's time to
get serious about something, you'll cutit off and just you know, we're
just lock in on the moment. But yeah, Coach Rule, you know,
he's he's a cool guy. Yeah. I like him a lot.
You know, he likes country.I was listening to country one time.
Oh country music as well, Sosomeone's gotta I gotta get put onto that

(15:16):
wave because it's just a genre ofmusic that's I got, you Dan,
Yeah, you got It's never reallyclicked for me that genre. I'm not
gonna lie when I listening to countryWise, I listened to Morgan wall Oh
you see, I just I haven'theard enough. I just haven't heard enough
range from that from that genre.I go, I gotta hear more.
Someone's gotta like make a playlist fromme. End. Even though did you
hear the recent Morgan Wallen uh albumalbum album? I really don't like the

(15:43):
Morgan Wallen type thing. I thinkDaniel would be a Landy Wilson. I
think I think he'd be a LandyWilson fan Laney will I like Luke Holms
as well. Oh yeah, Iget down with some of that Landy Wilson,
Luke, Luke Colms. And thenwhat was what's the newest album Morgan
Wallen? What's if you? Iforgot the name of it. A lot
of songs on there, so someof them are decent, but like for
me, it's just like he's likea lot more like pop country. Yeah,

(16:07):
I mean give me like you likethe I like country early like two
thousands, like yeah, the typeof stuff that like my like, like
that's what my dad was playing whenwe were when we were kids and whatnot.
Sure, it's called One Thing ata Time. That's the name of
his One Thing at a Time.Dually, May we can get him on
the episode. Yeah, I gethim on the Pobble. I'll see what
I can do there. I gota branch out man. I like songs
are getting so so dry. Igot like I don't make playlists, which

(16:32):
is bare. I'm right there withyou, which is controversial. I just
kind of go through my like songsand play whatever I'm feeling, which is
very poor because if I shuffle,I could be going from I'll go from
like, you know, sixties rockto like an old like fifties corny like
love song, and then I'll begoing to like trap music, and it's
just it's all over and it's bad. When I'm trying to lock into a

(16:53):
when I'm trying to lock into aspecific mood, it's it's difficult. And
that kind of brings me to somethingelse I want to talk about. When
what's your game time procedure. Iknow that this past season you got some
action against Illinois, Minnesota, Iowa, and was it Wisconsin I believe,
yeah, Wisconsin played played those fourteams. What do you what do you
do before game day to lock inwhat's what's the process looked like. One

(17:15):
of the biggest things I do was, you know, in the early morning,
I listened to a lot of gospelmusic, okay, just to get
the day started, you know.Closer to game time, that's when I
listened to you know, the thingsI get me pumped up more and everything.
But I'd like to listen to youknow, old school slow jams just
throughout the day, okay, andthen when it gets closer to game time,
that's when I'm you know, Idon't really talk to nobody young game
day. I'm not gonna lie realbe in my zone, looking over the

(17:37):
plays and just trying to, youknow, be the best I can be
and go out there and show out. So that's that's fair. Everyone handles
game day in a different way, which I find so interesting. Like,
no matter what sport, when yougot to compete later in the day,
everyone kind of goes about it adifferent way. And I was very similar
to you when I competed track andfield and cross country. I would get
I'd get kind of nervous before theraces. I mean those races my mile,

(18:00):
two mile, five k, evenlike the eight hundred. You're getting
put through hell. Man, you'rehurting when you're running. So I would
I would just have to really focusup and mentally prepare for that pan that
I'm about it endure. I'd listento some I listened to slow music because
it would settle me down because Iget that I'd get so anxious. I
would just have to go just breathe. I'm not gonna lie. I'm completely
completely opposite. I mean for methough, like I was always kind of

(18:22):
like the life of the party andthe thing. So like put me in
the locker room, I'm the kidwith the speaker. I'm blaring it like
I want everyone to hit the headof energy that I'm feeling. And like
I guess like also as like youknow, playing lacrosse like I love,
Like I was defense, so Iwas the one laying the hits. So
for me, though, like Iwas not out there kind of be like
you know, I'm cool, I'msly like that. I was like,
you know, here comes a boom, like I'm ready to hit you,

(18:45):
Like I'm not afraid. He's readyto lay the smack down. Man,
don't getting dealing sashes away. He'snot a huge guy. But you're a
bigger man, you big boy, you'd run me down, that's for sure.
That's for damn sure. Man.I played defense in soccer too.
I like I like, I likeplaying pre event, you know, just
keeping everyone out the zone. Defenseat all? You played both ways in
high school? Yeah? Ye,senior year, I had like eighty five
tackles and you know some school startedwound me for defense as well. For

(19:07):
defense? Was that a dB yesafe safety? Yeah, we were streaking
down the field. Don't watch outwhen you when you when you look at
everything yourself is running back your favoriteposition? Or do you really like that
safety spot too? Uh? Runningback is definitely my favorite position. Just
you know, I like being aplaymaker. Yeah. No, safety is
something that I was really good aswell, But I feel like running back

(19:30):
is something that you know, ismore natural to me. Okay, I
hear safety. I made a lotof plays and everything, but running back
just comes natural and something that youknow. I think it's the best position.
It's the only position that you knowruns the ball, catches the ball.
Yeah, you do it all,do it all, so they do
it all. I like that you'vealways got the event. That's weren't natural
to you. My my racing inhigh school, the short distance of my

(19:51):
tracks be was bad. I wasnot guarantee I got Daniel on the hundred.
Do you guarantee you got me inthe high short of god, I
got you in the hundred? Areyou sure I put money on it?
Truthfully? Emmy serious? You want? You want ten dollars to have this
happen. I'll shake on this rightnow that I got one hundred, let's
do it. He says, he'sgot me in the one hundred. Well,

(20:11):
we'll document this sometime, we'll hopefully, we'll share it around, we'll
figure it out. We'll get thisdone though, because you need you want
the smoking. You gotta get someflag football wins. Firday slightly slightly off
topic. When are you leaving? When am I leaving? I'm here till
Friday. You're here till Friday. You're gone Friday. Bro, I'm here
like all through Finals week Friday, next, Finals week Friday. Yeah,

(20:32):
I'll be I'll believe in finals weekThursday, heading back to give you.
I'll give you this Thursday morning,Thursday morning, let's see it. Well,
we'll meet. I don't know wherewe'll meet. I don't know.
I don't think we could get onthe track. I don't think where's there's
one hundred meter in the upstairs ofupstairs of the cook we can do You're
on either that or maybe Saudio couldput us through. We got him on
the pod. Maybe maybe maybe they'llopen up to Vanny for us. Well
that's the showdown right there. Well, we'll have to see. But I'm

(20:55):
heading back up to Minnesota in justa week or so, a little over
week, and Emmett, you andthe Nebraska football team will be heading up
on August third, well before Augustthirty first, but you'll be there for
game time on August thirty first. Now it'll be first game of the season,
your first time playing at TCF BankStadium. I'm not gonna call it
Huntington Bank Stadium. That's a loadof crap. It's TCF Bank. What

(21:18):
are the emotions going to be likeplaying in your hometown, you know,
and emotion is gonna be high. And growing up in South Minneapolis being a
you know, inter city kid, right watching all the Gopher players I came
through there, you know, TylerJohnson or Sheet Hageman, some great players
come through there and just wanting tobe like them, you know, growing
up and idolizing them. Sure, playing well every year for a high school

(21:41):
Holy Angels, and you know Iwas having some great seasons and everything.
You know, I really wanted tobe a hometown kid, right but you
know senior year when mister football, you know, never never got a scholarship
from the Gophers. And I meanit's a lot of you know, it's
a blessing at the same time becauseyou found your spot. I found my
spot. You know, we getto play them, and I just can't
wait to go. You know, just let everything. Did you like two

(22:03):
are and have conversations with them theyyeah, I mean I want to like
four or five oh Man game visits. You know, they liked me a
lot. You know, I justnever, you know, never got that
scholarship. And yeah, like Isaid, everything happens for a reason.
God put me in this position fora reason and put putting me on the
podcast right now. And hey,if anything that gives you a little motivation,
man, when you step out onthe field and be like I watched
me play you you didn't want mento see you know, some of my

(22:27):
friends, you know, family,I have them back home, you know,
come to watch me play too. That'll be fun. I'll certainly be
in attendance because I'm you can't holdme back from summer Minnesota, and I'm
most definitely making time to go tothe State Fair. And I got I
gotta know, is are you guysgetting any free time, like when you
guys go to different places, doyou get any spare time to just like

(22:48):
you know, go out to eator just see the town or whatever any
time like that you're talking about likebefore the game. Yeah, yeah,
before the game we usually have ameal as a team al together, but
I mean we don't. I meanit's really business everything. There's a business
trip at the end of the day. So I mean we're not going to
Iowa to go look at you know, downtown or everything, but going there
to handle business. So I meanat the end of the day, we

(23:11):
just you know lock in for that. I respect that a lot because if
I was in your position, Iwouldn't be able to keep myself away from
the State Fair. Man. Icouldn't do it. The Pronto pops and
Sweet Martha's, I don't know whatwas what was your favorite food there?
Because I would definitely say the sweemarts. The cookies. I love the cookies.
I don't no idea what we're talkingabout right now. There's a Minnesota
things some of the most overpriced cookieson planet Earth, but they're delicious.

(23:33):
You get them in a big giantbucket and they're filled like always over the
top. Look up on your computerSweet Martha's Cookies, MN State Fair and
you'll see the bucket of glory.I mean the buckets are what like how
much like probably twenty bucks a pop? Or sorry, I mean it's worth
it, though, I mean everybodyin Minnesota, everybody you can buy frozen

(23:55):
dough. You can buy frozen dough. I've never tried that. Apparently it's
good. Oh my god, youknow I've heard have you ever been to
Vallas, either of you? Ihave not been to valid Valas has something
very similar to this, except theydo um oh, I don't know.
I don't remember what it's called. But there's are like many like bite sized
cookies, not like the full cookies. Like what this looks like? Right?

(24:15):
That looks that sounds fantastic. Igot the biggest sweet tooth on Earth.
So I I'll tell you what though, sweet Martha looks like a sweet
Martha. Oh, she looks likea Martha, And I mean that is
the sweetest, most like sincere Way. She looks like a Martha. I
guess she do. I guess shedoes look like a Martha. Day.
Well, Martha rakes in about twomillion dollars everyone in just twelve days.

(24:36):
So yeah, Martha's getting done outthere. You really got to respect that.
But more back on the you know, the football toph why we brought
you on here. Well, there'sbeen a lot of news lately with the
Nebraska transfer portally know Casey Thompson.I believe he had the transfer portal.
It was late April, I think, just just like a week after spring,
a few days after. Everything kindof shifted right after that spring Yeah,

(24:57):
right after that spring game was andhe kind of hit the portal.
And Jeff Simms seems to be theguy. He played well during that spring
game through for I liked him throughfor about one hundred and thirty some yards
and a ram for a touchdown. He looks like the guy transferred from Georgia
Tech, got plenty of experience. But what do you like about Jeff Sims?
You know, like I'm sure yousaw some of the quarterback battle going

(25:18):
on during training. What do yousee in Jeff Simms that can allow him
to lead you guys to victories?Yeah, I got a lot of respect
for Jeff and Casey, Right,Jeff. You know the thing about him
is that you know, he hasgreat size. Yeah, he's versatile.
You know, Jeff could run theball. Sure, he has a strong
arm, and so in a quarterback, when when you have a versatile quarterback
that can do both, you know, that's always great to have. So

(25:40):
I've been seeing a lot of thatand just you know, being him being
able to escape the pocket and justmake plays out of nothing. Right,
it's been big. So I think, you know, I'm really excited about
playing with him, and I thinkit brings a lot of you know,
talent to our team just because wehave so many skilled players and receivers and
running backs, but we got aquarterback that skilled too, and so that
you know, that's gonna be bigfor us. Absolutely. When I mean,

(26:00):
just as the game of football continuouslychanges, it was something that we
we hit on with a mon.You know, as it becomes football just
becomes more passing heavy. That's justhow the league's going, guys, running
back's got to be ready to makecatches as well as run the ball well,
so you gotta adapt. I likethe idea of a dual threat quarterback
is always interesting. I know Martinezwas Yeah, Martinez could get it done.

(26:22):
You get it? Yeah? Could? I mean, I mean as
of this moment, and it's gotnothing to worry about. Nothing claim in
ten touchdowns and football, he's definitelycatching that. He'll step out and when
the startings by real quick. Butyeah, we kind of talked about earlier,
you know, with Matt rule kindof switching up and changing. You
talked about his discipline. Is thereyou see anything else he's doing that's really
gonna help the team next year? That, I mean, something that stands

(26:42):
out to you. Uh, I'lldefinitely just say the team bonding activities.
Yeah, we're just so much closer. I feel like this year, right,
we're a lot more closer as ateam, and we've done a lot
of things outside of just football, and also just the way you know he
preaches. You know a lot ofthe things that I already do, but
a lot of motivational speaking, alot of talking like that that just shakes

(27:06):
me. You know going he's beenin the NFL. Yeah, you know
he's seeing you know, he knowswhat it takes to get to the NFL.
So being coached by somebody who knowswhat it takes is always a good
man. And so I think, you know, just I'm in good hands,
you know what a coach like that, right when when you got guys
you got a mirror Duela helping youout a little bit, you got you
got, I mean, who elseis there, there's plenty of former NFL

(27:26):
guys. You got I'm on green. He's there, talked about it and
talked about a lot with like havinglike just like sideline staff the whole way,
just kind of like letting you knowwhat's up. And when you know,
you really talked about like you're bonding. Do you find yourself hanging out
like the other running backs or doyou you know, branch out And you
know, Emma, Johnson's a manof the people. I'll definitely say,

(27:48):
like person like me. I'm youknow, I'm a friendly guy. So
everybody I'm really cool with, he'sa man of the person. Yeah,
I'm yeah, I'm one of thoseguys and I get along with everybody.
The running back group. Like onthe field, of course, you know
it's time to you know, yeah, the best. But right, we're
all we're all good friends and everything. But like I said, my mentality
has always been when I step onthe field and I'm the best player on
the field, right, that's howeverybody should think. So we all get

(28:10):
along well. So it's not likewe, you know, beef with each
other. Right, I don't likehim, you know he's playing over me.
Yeah, it's no hate. Youknow everybody you know it loves everybody
and we're just we're all good friends. I mean, it's that competitive drive
right there. Like if you dosomething great, obviously someone else is going
to step up and try and doit one more and right, I mean
you have that building. It's thesame thing that happens just in anything.

(28:30):
It's a fine line that you gottawalk because you need that within a team,
you need that competitive drive. Mycross country teams, I was always
trying to you know, like Iwas always a varsity guy, but I'm
trying to work my way up tolike I was, you know, sixth
or seventh man. I was towardsthe back of my team. But you
know, I'm grinding in practice,I'm trying to work my way up to
be fourth, third, second, top guy on the team. You know,
even if you know, no matterhow unrealistic it may seem, you

(28:52):
know, you gotta believe you're thebest guy. But at the same time,
when you're grinding and trying to competewith people, you gotta remember these
are your teammates. You know.Hey, if if if another guy on
your team is getting faster than youhelps the team. Yeah, if it's
the whole squad, So you gottayou gotta understand that it's it's everyone working
together. That's what makes it ateam. Team effort. Sarah Iron Sharpen's
Iron most definitely, most definitely. Is there any particular NFL player or former

(29:17):
Nebraska back who you kind of modelyour game after it? You know,
I've seen your huddle highlights and youcan run man those it's a man amongst
boys on the Academy of Holy Angelshighlights man, Yes, sir. I
don't know if you guys really knowabout him. Nobody really talks about him
as much. But Chris Johnson Yo, yeah, Titans guy. Yeah,
CJ two K right, Yeah, didn't that where you go by? Yeah?

(29:37):
He had the scrimmage yards single seasonrecord. Yeah. Yeah, just
how explosive he is. And Ireally think I cut similar to him.
Emma Smith, Yeah, I lookup to I mean a mere Abdula is
somebody that I've watched, and DalvinCook being in Minnesota, Viking, watched
a lot of him. But Iwould definitely say Chris Johnson, Emma Smith,
and a little bit of h Iwould say, let me think Alvin

(30:00):
Kamara. Oh, Alvin Kamara, just because you know, in high school
there's been some games where I've beenexplosive and I've scored like four or five.
I averaged like four touchdowns a gamein high school. And so I
remember a game he played against theVikings he had like five touch Oh yeah.
Just how he can score so easilyand so explosive, That's what I
get from him. I remember thatgame, that game that you're talking about,

(30:21):
the I think that was a Christmasgame, the one where he scored
five remember him. Yeah. Ialso then remember him getting a crazy card
released in Madden after that, abroken card. You gotta you gotta honor
the great performances he made it lookso effortless out there, just no matter
when he got the ball, hiscut in just the way he was able

(30:41):
to run by guys, it lookedlike he's jogging. You got these ds,
these corners just sprinting after him, just looking like they're running for their
lives. They're they're grinding, they'redoing everything that ken And that's that's how
it looked like on the high schooltape, when you know you're just just
absolutely stomping these guys who you know, they may be good athletes, but
like you're on a different sir,How do you when you're playing against these

(31:02):
guys and it's just I mean,it's a cakewalk for the most part,
how do you kind of like remindyourself to stay locked in and really grind
hard to that next level even thoughyou know, hey, I'm walking all
over these guys. What do youdo to push yourself and challenge yourself,
like and back in your high schooldays. Yeah, like I said,
adverse, he is my biggest strength. So you know, just I think
coming into high school, not startingright away right just earning everything just made

(31:25):
me go harder. And I justI took nothing for granted. So every
time I stepped out on the field, I wasn't just competing with them.
You know, I'm competing myself absolutelybe the best I can be, even
right now in college. You know, I'm competing other running backs. But
at the same time, I'm lookingat the NFL guys because that's where I
want to be, So I'm competingwith those guys as well. So I
always have motivation. I always rememberwhy I played a game of football,

(31:47):
right, you know, I alwaystalk to my family. You know,
I'm you know, I love myfamily a lot. That's one of the
reasons why I played this game andright honor God through it and everything.
So keep my faith up and that'sjust what pushes me to go hard every
day practice, right. I loveit, man. You gotta you gotta
have always that top motivation in mind. The family is a big one.
That's that's why I wear I wearthis ring. It's a I got this

(32:07):
just at a jewelry store here inLincoln. But it's got three sons on
it. And this one's from mydad, this one's from my mom,
and that one's from my brother. So you I always got to have something
keeping my family mind. If youdon't got family, you got nothing,
man. So I respect that.As you know, big motivator behind you
or football? Yeah when, um, I mean, obviously did you play

(32:28):
did you only play football growing up? Or were you? Were you that
multi sport athlete growing up? Baseballis my best sport. Base What I'm
hearing is you want to join theDome Cruise softball team. Hey, slow
pitch, We're going slow pitch,co ed. We just want to rake
through that, do it. We'rewe're we're recruiting. Man, if we
could get we can get Emmett Johnsonand a Mongreen pulling off to the same
intramural that would okay. Well,So I looked into it one time because

(32:51):
my uh I was getting pt donejust at like the Med Center, and
I say, I jokingly said somethingto the guy one time. I was
like, yeah, Dome Cruise gout, you know, because you go for
like two months, so you getkind of closer to the guy. And
I was like, hey, don'tcruise, gotta go, don't don't cruise.
Got the game tonight, like youshould pull through play like we could
use a sub right And he waslike okay, And I was like,
whoa actually, and he goes, yeah, I literally can play. They

(33:15):
are considered like same with like faculty. Faculty could join our intermural team,
which is why we could get doctorall Good to pull up to one of
the flag football games and then professorplaying flag football'll be wild. I've seen
intramural teams with thirty thirty five yearold men like law students, which is
well, I mean there is theLawhawks, the Lawhawks. Yeah, I

(33:36):
mean we've become we've become known withwhat's going on in the intermedial League's gotta
know what's going on, right,There's there's always something to keep up on
me. I also played, uhbasketball in high school and track and basketball.
Someone's getting recruited for as well.A thousand, four hundred some points
in high school, so he brokethe thousand. Yeah, that's something else.
But baseball. I would say Istopped playing like right before high school.

(34:00):
Right, it was something that Iwas really good at as well.
Okay, I really did it alltrack, you know, I ended my
junior year. Were you you anoutfielder? Yep? Left field stop sometimes?
Oh yeah, how about that.I I was never a big baseball
guy, but those were those basketballschools in particular that were recruiting you.
Is it some of the a lotof the same schools that we're recruiting you

(34:21):
for football, Like, yeah, you know your Central Michigan's, your Western
Kentucky's, those are some of theschools recruiting you for football. Some of
those school it was like North Dakota. North Dakota at conference and then my
coach played at UNLV and so aftermy freshman season, they reached out,
uh and started like having interest inme. And then some schools just started
asking me, what would you ratherplay in college? Yeah, and it
kind of just came to football. And that's when some of the basketball schools

(34:43):
stop. I stopped playing au andeverything and yeah, oh yeah, yeah,
some of the all that going toI mean, did you ever think
about doing like a dual sport ordual athlete? I guess I thought about
it. But at the same time, it's like, if I really wanted
to get, you know, maximizemy talent and one thing, I feel
like it would be hard. Andnow I I feel like I'm maximizing my
talent because I'm just playing football andalso I'm used to playing defense as well,

(35:05):
and so like now I could justfocus on just running back, like
I never left the field when Iwas a senior in high school, Like
my coach kept me, I wason, Yeah, I was. I
was even doing special teams and everything. Wow, you men, you're calling
for that fair catch and you justsee Emmett barely, just headed, full
of steam. Not something you wantto see after a long day at class.
Get off your biology chance and yougotta go try and tackle Emmett Johnson

(35:28):
the open field. That that doesnot sound like a good time to me.
But I like the idea of maximizingyour you know, your your utility,
your gain in one sport. That'skind of what led you to go
from basketball, baseball, all thesethings to solely focusing on football. I
wish that I had kind of donemore sports in high school because me,
you know, I was okay atrunning in high school, and I was

(35:51):
okay at soccer, but I wasnever good enough at either one to you
know, make it like go done or anything. So looking back on
it, I should have just said, you know what, maybe maybe maybe
I'll do like a club soccer teamor some sort of extra thing outside,
just something besides the running to balanceit. Because that running over and over
again, Man, it just beatson your body. It's it's tough.

(36:14):
And the multi sports, you know, you get what it's like you you
work different muscles, there's like aspecific Yeah, it's it's usually like,
um like just like the way thatyou like activate certain muscles are different.
Like I mean, obviously playing basketballand football, you're using like full body
sports in that, and um,well there's oh god, there's some guy
who plays for Virginia. He playsfootball linebacker for Virginia, but then also

(36:37):
plays midfielder for their lacrosse team. And he has laid some kids out and
he talks. He talks about allthe time. He's like you can see
it's like almost that same process oflike he sits back and he goes it's
almost like I'm sitting there on thefootball field. Granted they do play lacrosse
on the football field there, buthe's like, I'm sitting in that like
consider like watching the quarterback in thepocket. I'm seeing him make that throw.

(37:00):
I can predict what's happening. It'sthe same patterns, and it's like
you use very similar like brain matter, brain memory patterns and recognizing all of
that and whatnot. But I knowwhat you're I know what you're talking about.
Just being able to use you know, your muscles and similar but yet
different complex ways. Right, Yeah, I can say from experience in high
school basketball and football, you know, they all help with one another because

(37:22):
you know, my vision on thecourt was kind of similar to my vision
in the backfield and just seeing thewhole thing. You know, that's why
it's good to be safety as well. Usually the guys who do like returning,
punt return everything. It was likeguys who played baseball who have did
outfield and used to track track andball. So right, yeah, every
sport kind of it all balances outin some way. The track obviously helps
with being real explosive. Did youget recruited for track at all? Yeah?

(37:45):
South Dakota is looking at me fortrack. They kind of asked me
what I was playing, like Isaid, and I said, football,
it's really the thing that yeah,it's taking over. And they just they
said, all right, you knowwe're still interested in you. But if
you're gonna go football, I mean, if you come here for football,
you can you know, try todo both. Yeah, but when a
big ten school comes knock and yougotta cut, you gotta take advantage of

(38:07):
that. Yeah, you got yougotta reevaluate the priorities. Man, I
love it with uh. I meanwhen you're here over the summer, obviously
being a part of the football team, you know you're working all summer long,
keeping getting that going. Um,how do you find yourself, you
know, relaxing in that time.I mean, like because obviously I'm sure
you're doing what almost full days ofpractices and it's you know, gotta be
hard complex use you're trying to getinto the season, you're trying to go,

(38:29):
especially with coach rule. When Idon't necessarily want to say, like
make a name for himself because he'sdone that already fairly well. But you
know, established himself that you know, he's here to be heard. Yeah.
I mean, we don't have alot of free time. I'm not
gonna lie, But in my freetime, you know, I just tried
to, you know, spend timemy faith with God, you know,
reading the Bible, Bible, studyeverything. But you know, you gotta

(38:50):
try to find a balance between everything. So I you know, I try
to watch Netflix every now and then, but I try to, like Kobe
Bryant said, I mean there's oneof his interviews he had, Yeah,
and he was talking about how everybodywent on vacation when it was the off
season everything, and he never wenton vacation. And one of the reasons
is why, because he said whenhe leaves, you know, he doesn't
want to say I wish I couldhave or I wish I had more time

(39:12):
to do this. So you know, I'm not really complaining about, you
know, being busy and everything. But in my free time, it's it's
still working towards football, but justthe mental aspect of it, right just
spending my time watching you know, motivational videos, watching the great running backs,
watching the film, seeing how itcan be better in every aspect,
just perfecting that craffecting my craft.Yep, absolutely, I think that being
busy constantly, it's it can beexhausted, you know, being busy again,

(39:37):
burnout what I'm experiencing right now.Man, When you keep working and
you don't provide yourself any time atall to kind of relax, it can
it can really drain on you.But hey, if you're doing something you
love, if you're playing the sportthat you've been playing forever, you love
it to death. Like, yeah, if you do what you love,
you'll never work a day in yourlife is what I've always been told by
my parents and my family. Andyou've mentioned family and faith a lot in

(40:00):
this interview, just talking about howthey've played a big part on your life
and still in the values that you'restill abiding by today. What's the most
valuable piece of advice they've given you. I'll definitely say, you know,
trust God most importantly, but juststay in the moment, right, you
know, just staying in the presentand trying to get the most out of
each day. Coach Brown also hetaught me something a Bible study, and

(40:21):
he said, your life is likea sponge. He said, so whatever
you put inside of it's gonna comeout. And so if you put orange
juice inside of a sponge, tomatojuice not gonna come out of it orange
juice because that's what you put intoit. So whatever you put into something,
that's what's gonna come out. Sojust trying to get the most I
can out of each day is thebiggest advice I've gotten from my family,
and that's helped me come a longway, because a lot of people look,
you know, in the future, and they talk about, you know,

(40:44):
what I'm gonna do in a year. What am I gonna do a
Minnesota game? But I'm trying toget better today. I work at Minnesota
players today, So that was us, definitely us. But no, you
gotta you gotta be worried about what'shappening today. That's something that I think
that's very lost with young people likeus, because at least when I'm going
through my personal life and looking throughlike job searches, you know, I

(41:04):
feel like I gotta have a tenyear plan and I'm twenty years old.
I'm I'm a sophomore in college,and I feel like I've got to have
it all figured out already, whichis you know, looking so looking so
far into the future, looking towhat I'm gonna do in five, ten
years from now. That's taking meout of this moment a lot. So
I think I'm worried about when thisnext podcast episode is gonna come out.
Yeah, I'm gonna I'm gonna havetop on the Adobe audition. I've been

(41:27):
getting pretty proficient at that. Iwill say, you've been You've been whipping
and flipping in there those those editsMan Day, the you know the intro
with the Paul Allen boom. Igot you you're getting good at that.
I'm getting better at that. Man. It takes a lot of time,
a lot of patients. You know, did you say Paul Allen? Yeah,
I met him too, uh,right before I came back up here
in oh Real. Actually, Iactually went on one of his radio one

(41:51):
of the one of the radio shows. I went on it and Ben Lieber
him and Ben Lieber was there oneday. That's good to meet them.
So when I go back home,is somewhere I can go to if you
want to check it out or something. Yeah, I mean, we've been
working on Daniel. Obviously, thisis the first time his dad's probably ever
gonna hear about it. We've beenworking on Daniel to try and get us
tickets up in the suites for theone of the Minnesota games. I gotta
keep hustling for that. But wekeep talking about we just write it off

(42:13):
as a business expense, even thoughthere's no business expenses in this right now.
There is no accounting for Studio threethirteen. The whole the Studio three
thirteen is right here. The truckstops here. Well, and I guess
shout out to aj the the iHeartMediatech guy. Back then we wouldn't be
anywhere without Aja, would not beanywhere without Aja. We would have zero
episodes uploaded. But Paul Allen andBen Leeber I've briefly been introduced to both

(42:37):
of those guys, you know, with my dad working at the station.
That'd be fun to hop on theair with those guys. It's a good
time. Yeah, I'd be alot of fun. I've been to training
camp a bunch and seeing all that. Yeah, it's a lot of fun,
dude. I was so fun wewere talking, you guys were talking.
It made me realize, you knowwhen you mentioned, uh, orange
juice to tomato juice. With bothof you not being from here, have

(43:00):
you guys had runs as you know, I've never had it, but I've
always heard about it, and I'veseen it at the game. Yeah,
I was gonna say, because likethey're called, they're literally in the stadium
called Nebraska's handwarmer. Yeah, Imean they're phenomenal. You like, well,
are you getting the traditional? Iusually just got the regular, But
I gotta say I have to bein like a very very specific mood.

(43:21):
Yeah, runs a very specific I'mthe Swiss and cheese guy, Like the
Swiss and mushroom. Interesting, that'sme. I'll say one thing. I
love beers Ave. Yeah, righton the road here. Yeah, I
think it's better than in my opinion, That's that's something I would I'll be
honest. I've only been there onetime. I've been there probably like five
six, seven times. And II'm not like a Cudoba and Chipotle lover,

(43:45):
like those kinds of places. Idon't love them. But when they
hit, they hit. And Agaveis real, really good. At is
really good. It's it's just it'sthe same price as Chipotle, but like,
yeah, bigger portions and it's better. I mean, it's better to
compete with that. I feel likeyou would have to be like you couldn't
just be like there, there's aplace in Omaha. Oh no, of

(44:06):
course, I'm gonna forget the name. Of course you are. Why wouldn't
you done? It's right next tomy house too, I know, you
know what doing My parents go thereall the time. Sure? Oh shoot
a dude, I can't think ofit. I'm giving you good energy.
Nothing all right, it's gone. But it's a very similar aspect of like,
same price, but like the meatis just it tastes better. There
you get a bigger portion of it. Like the Chipotle burrito is what like

(44:30):
nine bucks. Yeah, and youknow like they packed that pretty tight.
I mean wherever wherever my mom goes, she gets to burrito in the last
or three days. Yeah, it'sno, it's it's it's not. It's
like a place about here. Iwill look it up right now. He's
taken to the internet. This isgonna bug Dylan, say it will.
He's got to find out. I'vewhen you have your craving, you have

(44:52):
your craving down When I was inTexas for spring break, man, all
I did was eat tacos id offof tacos and bur You knows I was
all ate down there. Of courseI was in Austin, so an order
of three tacos cost me like twentydollars because everything is so so pricey down
there. Cost of living not badhere. Yeah, So it's Hovey's Tacos
Taco that's where my parents go.It's like right next to the house,

(45:15):
Like I said, supermassive portions,Okay, but honestly, same prices Chipotle,
and because it's right next to thehouse, it's worth it tenfold.
Hoves I'll check that out. Maybemaybe when I'm on the way back from
from Lincoln heading to Minneapolis for thesummer, I'll stop by. But Emmett,
we're talking about so much football here. I don't I don't know much

(45:37):
about like Emmett. Emmett, Imean football star, family driven, god
fearing man. But what's your majordown here? Man? What do you
what do you do outside of football? My major's advertising and public relations.
So I'm an FPR major and I'mtrying to make a minor in business minor
business. Okay, so, hey, dirty Dan knows something about that.
I do be in the economics andfinance world. But hey, he's right

(45:58):
here in the College of Journalism andMass Communication. Oh yeah, I guess
I didn't think about that. Whatkind of what kind of interests you with?
Odd pr? Oh, you know, I've been being on an endorsement
part of things, but I neverreally understood the business side of things.
Like I have a brand called bagFam I started my freshman year of so
just learning about, you know, the marketing aspect of everything, because I've

(46:20):
always knew how brands, you know, were, but I never knew how
it worked anything. So just learningthat and then, like I said,
big on advertisements, I want tobe doing you know, commercials and advertising
someday. Yeah, I want tobe a part of that. So I
don't see how everything works and howthat process is everything, right man.
Yeah, there's there's no better placeto do with than right here. I
love this building. This college isjust so excuse me, but own clothing

(46:44):
brand. Man, Where'd you getthat idea from just you and somebodies?
Yeah, me and my friend startedit, my brother as well. You
know, just being in your bagjust mean being your zone. Yeah,
being locked in. So we justtried to focus on everything. It's not
just sports back them is something youcan you know some life being all in
and zoned into something, and sofams for family. So we just put

(47:04):
the bag and family together. Thereyou go. Kind of started that thing
going, but in commercials, notcommercials and advertising all that, and I
l deals something. That's when yousaid when we were talking about commercials,
and instantly thought of my boy.Did Coldest Crawford my boy? Is he?
Actually? Yes, sir? Weuh we tried to get him on
the internet or on the Inner Miral. It was I shouldn't say tried,

(47:27):
it was a running joke. Wetried get him. We tried to get
him on Dome Crew because uh washe was he in a class with you?
No? I just I very brieflymet di Coldest. Like I was
walking down was it I think itwas seventeenth Street, thought I was walking
out. It was near the Phillipsgas station and that one bar like kind
of in between that area, andI was just walking back from class and
I saw the Coldest and I justsaid, like I didn't want to get

(47:50):
up in his face and bottom.I just said, like, what's up,
man? And he goes hey,and I start walking away and he's
like, wait, do you knowwho I am? And I said,
yeah, I know who you are. And I very briefly about him.
But now he's he's cool and he'swhat with a name like that. How
are you not gonna capitalize on theon the N I l opportunities. If
you had the opportunity to do annil deal with one company, do a
commercial for one company, it's somethingthat you want to do in the future,

(48:14):
what company would you join? Uh? I definitely feel like I eat
a lot of canes. Yeah, that's a good answer. Good canes would
definitely be up there. Chick Flais good, But I eat a lot
of canes and feel I feel likewe could. I feel like we could
get that going. I mean, like the thing about the fact that just
like the university as a whole issponsored by KNES, right, I mean

(48:37):
we try to we try to getCanes to sponsor to the lacrosse club.
Did you actually yeah, it didn'treally work out well because actually Minnesota's lacrosse
team is sponsored by KNES. Reallythey Um, we went up there last
year and played them. Uh,unfortunately we lost, but super cool.
They've got like the inflatable domes andwhatnot and um. But like after we

(48:58):
played, we're like walking out andyou know, obviously the teams a little
upset because we lost. Minnesota coachshe's like, oh, hey, by
the way, like here's your guys'scoupons whatever, swing down by the canes
off of I couldn't like the onethat's just right on campus there, right.
It was like you let them knowthat you're here from the lacrosse clubs,
give them these coupons and that's big. So it was like the three

(49:19):
three three piece combo canes connection. It was I mean, it was.
It was crazy, especially because weliterally were talking like where are we gonna
go? Canes? I think wemight as well, there's one right down
the road and then lock it up. I think that I could. I
could very easily see. I couldsee Emma Johnson a little poster right there
holding the football in the basket, chicken in one hand. I think that's
all there is too. Do youprefer Canes over chick Fila? Like?

(49:42):
The fast food chicken debate is onethat's never ending. I got people who
will die on the Canes hill, and I got other people who will never
leave Chick fil A's side. Yougot a side? Or what about Popeyes?
O? Popeye is good as well. I would definitely Sam McCain's guy
Canes. I just I like thetoast right so, and it's so good.
The sauce is, you know, good too. So what's what's the
meal? Combo? What are yougetting? I get boxed combo, no

(50:06):
coastal extra toes. Yes, that'sthe drink? Are you getting? Are
you getting the lemonade? Depends howI'm feeling. Lemonade or high see,
it depends how I'm feeling. Thisis my guy right here, the exact
same meal. I enjoy it.I love canes, but I can only
it's it's kind of like runs.I need to be in a very specific
mood because it's just like so heavy. It's like a lot of food.
Part of the problem is I usedto do caney at combos only, but

(50:30):
that it's just a lot of foodto kind of I'm hungry. I get
that, Yeah, like super hungry. Right, what about Calvers? Are
you the Calvers man? Yeah?Yeah, I took my friend, you
know, Malcolm. He he's fromMississippi, so they don't yeahs are note
down there right right. I tookhim the Calvers and he didn't They didn't
know. I had no idea whatit was. Sure they like it,
Yeah, they liked it. Imean they said the burgers are good,

(50:52):
but you know they like everything extraspicing. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I'll say in high school, likemy nickname was four because my number four
in high school. Yeah, he'scome E four right, And I know
they just changed the rule on howlike you can get an io deals in
Minnesota, like in high school. Now, sure, but when if I
was a senior and I had allthat nickname, I was thinking E four
for four. Wendy's just something sucha good one too. I'm thinking about

(51:17):
it this year. I mean,I'm twenty one right now, but you
know coach rules that the hardest workersget the single digits. There you go.
You gotta be a dog get thosesingle digits. But I mean,
obviously you're I mean issue and you'retrying to get back down to four.
That's what you want. I mean, I look, I look really well
in twenty one, but I mean, if I can get four, go
back to my You know, thatmakes me feel he ain't stopped working.

(51:37):
You gotta run it back with theclassic number and e four for four has
got to be the greatest promotion.Four for four, that's gotta be the
greatest promotion I've ever heard that.Like, now we know why he's an
ad pr major. Now I getit. He's got he's got these ideas.
My my dad his most He's He'sdone plenty of advertisements and endorsements.
Being on the air. He didcommercials for Subway. He was the actually

(52:00):
yeah fresh, he was the tasteof crazy. He was the taste fairy.
Have you ever have you ever heardof the taste fairy? No,
like truly I haven't. That's wild. When when when? When you guys
get off the episode? Just hitup YouTube and look up Subway Taste Fairy
and you'll see some of the mostlovely advertisements ever crafted. It's I'm not

(52:20):
gonna spoil you just you just gotto do it. But the E four
for four meals what I'm saying. That's genius. Man, call me e
money now. But you know,if I get four, I'm going back
to the four. Yeah, thereyou go. You got to bring it
back to the high school and numberOh yeah, why did you guys start?
Uh? Why did you guys startdoing this? Uh podcast? And
what's y'all majors? How about that? I like, I like getting asked

(52:43):
questions. Man, I like talkingabout myself a little bit. I mean,
Dylan, you can go first,Yeah, I mean truthfully. So
first off, I am agricultural systemstechnology. So for me, it was
like, oh, man, like, maybe I want to be an engineer.
And then I looked at what allthat stuff entitled didn't go all right,
I'm definitely don't want to be anengineer that but it's also the aspect

(53:04):
of UM. I felt like theprogram allowed me to get more hands on.
It's kind of like been the waythat always was. It's how I
was raised. My parents kind oftaught me that, like, you know,
not to say, if it ain'tbroke, don't fix it. But
like, if you can, youknow, commit thirty minutes an hour of
your time to learn a skill, why not do it and learn that skill
serve you for the rest of yourlife. But truthfully, one of the
only reasons I'm sitting here in thisseat right now is because of you know,

(53:27):
my boy Daniel crossed the road thereone days. It's just a random
night. I don't even remember it. Daniel, just I get a text
most out of the blue, Heyyou want to start a podcast. I
think me and you would you know, vibe grate together. We'd be able
to we'd be able to have agood time on the air. This was
what probably in like November, yeah, no, late it was late first
semester or early second it was itwas late first semester, because I know

(53:49):
it was before winter break, okay, but I obviously I said, yeah,
you know, I'm in, Likewhy not. It was a it
was a thing of like, um, I'm here all right. Not to
say that I don't have anything betterto do. But I like talking.
I like meeting new people. Inow have experiences with you know you ahead
of mind Green, like I wouldhave never thought I'd met him on Green,
sir. And so having that opportunityjust to sit down, say why

(54:12):
not commit myself to the I meanbecause in five years if this doesn't work
out, it was five I meannot five years of but it's a memory
from college where I look back andI go, that was cool, that
was cool, that was fun.I had a great time with some friends
and I mean made made lasting memories, sat down with some dogs from Nebraska
football past and press. How canyou turn that opportunity, sir? But

(54:36):
myself, I'm currently doing economics andfinance as a major. And my goal
just in trying of personal side tangent, I'm trying to break into the world
of just high fiance. You know, I want to be able to make
good money at a young age becauseone of the main things that I want
to do is just repay my parentsfor everything they've given to me. And

(54:57):
you know, I'm not saying thatI'm gonna look through all the records and
every redime that they've given me.I'm going to pay them back every last
penny, but you know, Iwant to be able to, like just
give him some money every now andthen just say, hey, you know,
do whatever you want with this. You could put into the savings.
You could go shopping and buy yourselfsomething nice. You know. I want
to be able to provide for myparents after they've given so much to me,
because I've been put in a blessedsituation where I'm able to. You

(55:21):
know, I got a roof overmy head, and I got food on
the table every night, and afamily that loves me, and that's something
that a lot of people don't haveand something that a lot of people desperately
want. So I'm very glad toget that. That's kind of why i
want to head down the career paththat I'm going on. In terms of
podcasting, I've just been around radioforever. Man. It's it's the coolest
job in the world, just tobe able to hop on, talk a

(55:43):
little bit, you know, havefun with the people around you, and
leave. I've been seeing my daddo it forever. He has sound bites
of me from when I was avery little kid. I got He's actually
got him on the on the boxup here when I when I hit these
magical little buttons here, I canget some fun sound bites like here's one.
We played some of these for amon green. We got um the

(56:05):
Lions related sound bites. We gotthis one. The roar has been restored,
and we've got what else do wegot? We got roar has been
restored? Brett Farve, don't youin there? I took Brett Farve out
because I had to replace it witha different one. Or no, I
do have Brett Farve. Brett Farve. This Brett Farve that I'm tired of

(56:28):
Brett Farve. That was recorded whenFarv was still what the packers doing his
thing out there, and everyone goteveryone was tired of him. But I've
I've been around radio forever and growingup seeing my dad do it. It's
just like, hey, like, can I come on the air sometime,
like just for like a segment. He said sure, And I hopped on
the air, and I loved it, and I knew I wanted to do

(56:49):
my own thing with it, andI wanted a co host, and I
wanted to get friends and athletes onand talk about sports, talk about whatever.
I recruited Dylan and here we aretoday. So it's dope, man,
Yeah, it's it's it's a lotof fun, dude, right,
radio is it's it's the best thingin the world. But that's kind of
just it's a little bit about meand Dylan. Kind I was I was
thinking you when you said you saidtalking about like repaying your parents and made

(57:12):
me think about, like, I'msure obviously one of your goals is you
know, you talk about family beingable to take care of him at all.
And I feel like the aspect oflike repaying your family comes in like
not necessarily just like in a monetaryvalue, like right, Um, I
just kind of thinking about that.I mean, like, obviously I assume
you have very similar goals and ambitions, especially you know, the with the

(57:34):
way that you hold you know, family, when you talked about your religion
and whatnot and how much that meansto you. And so I think it's
like it's interesting of like who wouldhave thought that, Like, I mean,
obviously you both were from Minnesota, twenty minutes away, that two people
who live a completely different lifestyle sharesomething that's like so important to them like
that. I think it's just likeit's a thing like that. Another reason

(57:55):
for me of being in here islike we now have that connection that you
would have never found before. Wewould have had no reason to talk about
it like that. Right, Thelike minded people the same, the same
goals, same ideals, and samefundamentals can come from people miles and miles
and miles apart. Like, yeah, me and Emmett grew up a lot
closer than you and me, buthey, everyone can be raised. I

(58:15):
mean, I'm the co host.He is most definitely the co host.
Yes, sir, Um Well,Dylan, I think I think that's been
it for episode number six, Episodenumber six, Episode six of Studio three
thirteen. It's it's been a goodone now, huh. Emmett, do
you have anywhere that the people canhit you on social media? Anywhere on

(58:37):
the Internet that guys can reach outto your next closing remarks, Yeah,
yes, sir, Instagram, EmmaJ Underscore e m M E t t
J Underscore, TikTok m J Underscoretwenty one. I got a pretty well
he's got that TikTok? How manyfown many followers you got on TikTok?
Like one? Nine? Und he'sup there. There you go man,
he hit him up in the nildeals come on, deals hit his line.

(58:58):
It's it's been Emma Johnson. Thankyou so much for coming on the
show. We really appreciate you takingthe time out of your day. We're
excited to see what you do nextyear. Truthfully, most definitely I'll be
at that Minnesota again. I'll bewatching. I'm excited, ready to go.
Dylan, thank you very much forbeing my thank you, dependable co
host, the man who's always sittingsitting just across the table from me,
helping me out. No, I'malways going to be here, always,

(59:20):
always. I'm Deuce and this hasbeen Studio three thirteen. You guys take
care. I'm a shadow holder.I'm packing back love of cost cames in

(01:00:04):
my day.
