Sonny One was six point five Las Vegas's Best Variety
the eighties nineties and today it's Sunny Mornings with Joanna
and Sean. Look, our armed forces need all the help
they can get, whether they are here or abroad, and
we like to put a spotlight on any organization helping
them be prepared.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Absolutely, So, the in sporadic community in Henderson, in collaboration
with Liberty High School and the City of Henderson, joined
forces for the eleventh annual Munchies for the Military event
that happened recently in our community. Now, this donation drive
and volunteer initiative is something that you need to know
about because it's organized by an organization called Douglas J.

Green Memorial Foundation, which was founded because of Sonny Calbro
in memory of her son Douglas J. Green, who was
unfortunately killed in action during his second tour of duty
in Afghanistan in twenty eleven. Obviously a heartbreaking situation, but
a lot of good, especially for those deployed you know,

came out of the situation.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
So Munchies for Military for the military, what they do
is they send care packages out to deployed military personnel
anywhere they happen to be and it's all stuff like
breakfast foods, snack items, beef, jerky, Trail makes dried fruit,
and of course hygiene products as well.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
Yeah, and something very special to notice that the Douglas J.
Green Memorial Foundation. They host this giant event Munkei's for
the military every year, but they host events throughout the
year to continue to get those care packages ready and
send overseas year round. So there's ways that you can contribute,
you know, not just at this event, but anytime you

may have the funds available, Yes.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
So they do ask for donations around. It costs about
twenty five dollars per box and the goal every year
is around five hundred care packages. So if you'd like
to make a monetary donation, you of course can. You
can also volunteer to actually help put the boxes together too.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
Yeah, I think this is very special. You know, moms
like they're pretty powerful. So to see what you know,
Douglas's mom, Sonny was able to do, and what she
has created and the legacy that she has you know,
you know, left behind for her son and beyond, is
