Speaker 1 (00:00):
Sunny when I was six point five off Vegas's official
Christmas music station. Good morning, It's Joanna and it's Sean,
and we love supporting so many incredible organizations throughout the year,
but specifically this time of the year, and we get
to partner up again with our friends at Children's Miracle
Network Hospitals. We partnered with them for the first time
last year. But welcome into the studio this morning is
our friend Debbie from Children's Miracle Network host. But I'll say.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
Debbie, thank you so much for having me and.

Speaker 3 (00:24):
Angela from M Resorts.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
Good morning, Good morning. We got fun of that that
we're going to be promoting.

Speaker 4 (00:29):
We really do so coming up this Saturday Breakfast with
Santa at M Resorts and it's going to be benefiting
Children's Miracle Network, such an incredible organization and M Resort
appreciate you so much coming in to make this all
come together. Let's talk about why this was important to
get involved as M Resort.

Speaker 5 (00:47):
Well, we were approached to host the Children's Miracle Network
Breakfast with Santa, and you know, we're really excited to
have just opened the doors on our brand new hotel
Room Tower and now that we have seven hundred and
sixty five restrooms. We realized Santa cannot visit each and
every one of that sure, so we agreed to have
Santa come down to our brand new Montese Ballroom where

(01:10):
we will be hosting breakfast and kids can color with
Missus Claus, have breakfast with Santa and enjoy all of
the holiday festivities.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
That's so awesome. It's gonna be a really great fun morning.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
I mean, I feel like it's like almost like a
VIP opportunity with Santa Claus right, who else gets.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
Seed breakfast with Santa?

Speaker 3 (01:27):
Right?

Speaker 2 (01:27):
And he's bringing missus class.

Speaker 6 (01:28):
Oh, how fun is that?

Speaker 2 (01:29):
You get the whole family. It's whole family. I love that.
Now tickets are very affordable too.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
Let's talk about ticket price, and I love that you've
made it super easy for people to buy tickets. So
ticket price ten dollars for kids, fifteen dollars for adults,
can't beat that. And all people have to do is
text Santa to three four nine eight four to get tickets.

Speaker 4 (01:49):
Yes, and we had the privilege of walking through Children's
Miracle Network Hospital at Saint Rose, Dominican. And let's let's
talk a little bit more about the work that you
do so that people understand what going to breakfast with
Santa is going to help accomplish.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
Well, thank you so much, Sehn. We have partnered.

Speaker 6 (02:05):
We've been the local Children's Medical Network hospital since two
thousand and five, we being Saint Rose and we treat
over forty five thousand children a year, and that all
of the money that is raised under the Children's Medical
Network logo in the valley, it's all coming to the
Children's Medical Network.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
At Saint Rose.

Speaker 6 (02:23):
We provide a charity care to the pediatric patients who
are unable to pay their bills. When nobody wants a
sick child, and of course, and how devastating is it
when you really look at the bills and you cannot
do it. So not only are you fighting to get
your child well, but you have financial financial burden. One

(02:43):
hundred percent of the money raised goes to support the
children when they're in the hospital and their families and we're.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
Very grateful for the support.

Speaker 6 (02:52):
So make sure you come out and have some hot
chocolate with Santa and make get some pictures. And I
have to talk to all the elves and we have
some wonderful things.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
That props and beautiful.

Speaker 6 (03:02):
It's going to be a beautiful event, so please do
you absolutely.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
This Saturday m Resorts Miracle Morning Breakfast.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
Breakfast with Santa's.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
Happening eight to ten am, nice and early, so you
have the rest of the day to have some fun too,
which is always great. You can get tickets right now
by texting Santa to three four nine eight four Again
text Santa to three four nine eight four.

Speaker 4 (03:25):
Angela, Debbie, thank you so much for coming in today
and telling us all about Breakfast with Santa.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
We're very grateful for you. Thank you so much.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
Thank you. Sunday one six point five. Here's a little
moment of kindness in a busy world.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
It's your sunny story of the day.

Speaker 3 (03:44):
All right, what's the good news this morning, Joanna?

Speaker 2 (03:46):
All right, here's something to make you smile.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
Over on East Freemont Street, the Raiders very own Daniel Carlson,
our kicker, helped celebrate the grand opening of a brand
new raising canes and it wasn't just about you know,
chicken fingers though, let's be honest, those are pretty awesome.
Carl's had teamed up with communities and schools to donate
twenty five hundred dollars to support Title One programs, plus

(04:08):
twenty holiday gifts for students in need.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
How awesome is that?

Speaker 3 (04:12):
That's good.

Speaker 4 (04:12):
We've talked about communities and schools before, so nights to
see someone in the raiders helping give back to them.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
Yeah, it's always good to see our famous sports teens
and sports superstars give back to our.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
Community in need.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
And hey, if you're in downtown Las Vegas, this raising
Caines has a double drive through and a really cool
indoor dining area as well, So it's fun to see
our city growing too. Now that's your sunny story of
the day, proof.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
That little kindness goes a long way.

Speaker 1 (04:39):
Now, let's hear some good news from our friend Tanya
this morning.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
Tanya, what's going on?

Speaker 7 (04:44):
My good news is I started my own startup company
and I've got two clients and I'm actually running in
America running my own business making money.

Speaker 4 (04:53):
That that right there, That's that is the American dream
right there, running your own business.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
What is it? What does it you do?

Speaker 7 (05:00):
I work in uh hospitality, so I help with events
and I help with just making not weddings, but.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
Different types of special events and making the party a
real party.

Speaker 5 (05:12):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
Now that's the perfect company to have in Vegas. Tanya,
We wish you the best going into twenty twenty six
with your new business.

Speaker 3 (05:18):
Sunny Mornings with Joanna and Sean on Sonny one oh
six point five Sunday.

Speaker 1 (05:23):
Mornings with Joanna and Sean right here on Sunny Window
six point five.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
Good morning.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
I feel like all of us have our go to,
you know, drive through stores that we shop at, restaurants that.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
We eat too.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
We become very loyal to brands that we love absolutely.

Speaker 4 (05:39):
I mean a little good service and trusted people that
work there, you know, like good employees go a long
way with getting you to come back and give repeat business.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
Absolutely.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
Now, Yelp just drop its list of top brands that
Americans were most loyal to this year, and I think
the number one spot is going to surprise a lot
of people.

Speaker 3 (05:57):
Yeah. Absolutely.

Speaker 4 (05:58):
I mean, I've got my own places that I love
to take people that are always visiting in town. And
some of these are not necessarily they're all here in Vegas,
all of them, but they're not necessarily Vegas brands. Number five,
Olive Garden. I love that that's making a comeback.

Speaker 1 (06:12):
Listen, I've been loyal to Olive Garden for years. It's
just not close to my house. Yeah, like convenience factors,
Like there's an olive garden around the corner, I'd.

Speaker 4 (06:19):
Be there all the time. It is a millennial I think,
beloved millennial dining. Established dicks have never changed, right and
the Endless Possible I think brought them out of whatever
the basement that they were in Texas Roadhouse. Number four, Yes,
love them not surprisingly. Number three In and Out Burger, I.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
Would have guess that would have been close to number one.

Speaker 4 (06:39):
I would have thought so too, But people are die
hard for In and Out is my daughter's favorite place
to eat ever.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
Absolutely, I mean talking about customer service, they have it.

Speaker 3 (06:49):
Down, Oh for sure.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
They're a well oiled machine. You know what you're getting
when you enter that drive through going to that restaurant.

Speaker 4 (06:56):
Love it and out and for the most part, they
look like they're having fun in there too. Number two
two Trader Joe's Interesting. I think people are very loyal
to Trader Joe's house brands too, right, Like, I think
they're very well known for like this stuff that they
label in House, their Trader Joe's cookies and pancake mixes,
and what have you?

Speaker 1 (07:13):
Right, and another one that just has excellent customer service.
I feel like I always have a conversation with my
trader Joe's cashier.

Speaker 3 (07:20):
And what number one we want to do the reveal here?

Speaker 8 (07:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (07:23):
Number one is Dave's Hot Chicken, and they have exploded
here in our community over the past year alone.

Speaker 4 (07:31):
It feels like, Yeah, they've definitely been opening I think
a lot more establishments. Yeah, and I personally, I mean
I enjoy their food. I can't eat the hot stuff,
but right, yeah, but I mean not a Vegas brand,
but certainly becoming one.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
It's just wild how fast that one grew. Were just
like all these hot chicken places that I feel like
have popped up recently. But you know what Dave's Hot
Chicken does, right, is they also have like really great
like vegetarian options, Like have you tried their cauliflower?

Speaker 2 (07:58):
Yes, they're like chicken substitute.

Speaker 3 (08:01):
Yeah, yeah, it's really good. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (08:02):
Do you have a personal favorite like brand here in
town that you're loyal to the number one mm hmm,
like a place you would bring someone any time they
come to visit.

Speaker 2 (08:10):
Oh, a Vegas only like my go to spot. Ooh
that one's tough. Give me a minute. Do you have
somebody on top of your heat?

Speaker 3 (08:16):
Yeah? Okay, what is that Abel Baker down in the artististic.

Speaker 2 (08:19):
The beer you talk about them for a long time.

Speaker 4 (08:22):
If I is my favorite place to bring anyone who
is visiting. Just I love the vibe there. The beer
is great, they got food. It's just like open kind
of seed. I don't know, I just I love I
love that. I love that spot.

Speaker 2 (08:32):
That's a good Vegas shout out this morning.

Speaker 1 (08:34):
I'm sorry, I'm not gonna give like a Vegas own
one right now because the number one brand that I
think I'm loyalty that pops in.

Speaker 2 (08:40):
My head is Duncan.

Speaker 3 (08:41):
Duncan's a good one.

Speaker 1 (08:42):
I will eat that breakfast sandwich all day every day.
I love the hash Browns, I love the drinks like
I am a Duncan die hard and so yeah, that's
the number one brand for me.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
Sunny one oh six point five.

Speaker 4 (08:56):
Sunny Windows six point five. Las Vegas is official Christmas Mutations.
So our boss has been talking about doing an office
like secret sent a gift exchange yep, and one of
our colleagues she does not want to do it. She
doesn't want to feel forced to buy presents for someone
she doesn't technically know if they're going to get the
gift or not sure, and thinks it's just she doesn't

(09:16):
want to be forced to do it and kind of
has the office divided on whether or not this party
is actually going to happen. So is she being a
scrooge about this or just setting boundaries?

Speaker 1 (09:25):
I mean, listen, I love anything that we can do
this time of the year as a team. I don't
think we're having an actual office party.

Speaker 3 (09:32):
Right, No, I don't think so. Either.

Speaker 1 (09:34):
We'll take a we'll take a little gift exchange, I mean.

Speaker 3 (09:37):
Something, I take what we can get this year, right.

Speaker 1 (09:39):
Take what week and get let's have a little bit
of fun.

Speaker 2 (09:41):
Why not?

Speaker 4 (09:41):
Well we'll start with Darlene here. What do you think
Darlene is? Is she being a scrooge or setting boundaries?

Speaker 6 (09:46):
Here?

Speaker 3 (09:47):
Absolute scrooge?

Speaker 4 (09:48):
I mean.

Speaker 8 (09:51):
That I get that Christmas is a lot of work,
but it's once a year, my God, like bend a
little bit.

Speaker 7 (10:00):
I mean, how hard is it to go grab a gift?
Show up?

Speaker 8 (10:05):
Come on, man, like, get over it.

Speaker 4 (10:10):
You also got to worry about, like the boss, keeping
track of stuff like this too, I think.

Speaker 8 (10:14):
A little bit, right, Yes, yes, you know, I totally agree.

Speaker 3 (10:20):
I think get over.

Speaker 8 (10:21):
Yourself and just participate. Yeah, I bet she also is
the one that has her lights out on Halloween, you know,
or she's like giving out an apple or the pren sooul.

Speaker 3 (10:35):
Just this person sucks.

Speaker 7 (10:37):
She's just not invited to the barbecue. That's all I
have to say.

Speaker 1 (10:40):
All right, we're just gonna be piling on to her
right now, right. But yeah, I mean we agree with you.
I mean, why not. Maybe it affects the morales the
whole team. Just participate.

Speaker 4 (10:50):
We'll take another call here, Katie. What do you think
is is she okay to be like refusing to do this.

Speaker 3 (10:55):
Or should she participate?

Speaker 7 (10:56):
She absolutely has a right to say no right now.
Like the economies, it's a mess. And so if she
doesn't have the fun for that or even the time.

Speaker 1 (11:07):
For that, like, let her be.

Speaker 7 (11:09):
It's her life.

Speaker 1 (11:11):
I mean, yeah, I mean it is stressful right now,
right and then you know last minute shopping, everyone ends
up procrastinating, just grabbing something or splurging on something stupid.

Speaker 2 (11:20):
That's the worst when you get like a terrible gift.

Speaker 6 (11:22):
Right exactly, She doesn't.

Speaker 1 (11:24):
Need that we shouldn't.

Speaker 7 (11:25):
Shame anybody from making the right decisions for them.

Speaker 4 (11:27):
Okay, that's that's a fair report, especially when they gift
might be thrown away like five minutes after the party's.

Speaker 3 (11:33):
Ever right, right exactly.

Speaker 7 (11:35):
There's no guarantee the person will like at any rates.

Speaker 2 (11:37):
Yeah, well that's a good opinion, Katie. We appreciate it.
Thanks for the call.

Speaker 3 (11:41):
This is Sunny Mornings with Joanna and Sean. I'm Sunny
one six point five. What's watch? Where to go? And
what everyone's talking about? Here we go Shoe in the know.
A lot of local stuff in today's report. What's going on?

Speaker 1 (11:53):
All of it is Vegas addition this morning, so basketball
lovers get ready for this weekend. The NBA Cups semi
Finals are locked in and taking over T Mobile Arena
on Saturday. Now, on the Eastern Conference side, it's the
Orlando Magic battling the New York Knicks.

Speaker 3 (12:08):
Cool, and on the.

Speaker 1 (12:09):
Western Conference side it's the San Antonio Spurs against the Oklahoma.

Speaker 3 (12:14):
City Thunder fun.

Speaker 1 (12:15):
Yeah, and then the championship game is going to take
place on Tuesday at Te Mobile Arena as well. So yeah,
all that NBA action coming to Vegas. Always a big
weekend when the NBA is in town.

Speaker 3 (12:25):
Yeah, and US prime for getting our own team, that's
for sure.

Speaker 2 (12:27):
Put it into the universe, right, Why not?

Speaker 1 (12:29):
Now, movie lovers, this is fun for local movie lovers.
Red Rock Casino's Regal Theater is back and better than ever.

Speaker 2 (12:37):
Have you heard about this?

Speaker 1 (12:38):
They actually went through a huge transformation with lux upgrades
including a stylish new bar inside the theater, a lounge,
plush recliners, seating, and of course cutting edge formats like
IMAX and more.

Speaker 3 (12:52):
I'm in Red Rock pretty frequently, but never the theater.
Now I have to go.

Speaker 1 (12:55):
Yeah, grab that popcorn and check out a new movie.
Maybe this weekend. And on the strip, there is a
show that is saying goodbye. Announce this week's Figel World's
forty million dollar Disco show at the Lake.

Speaker 2 (13:07):
Oh no, we'll be closing on January third. Yeah, that's
a bummer.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
And they are shutting down due to low ticket sales.
That has been announced. So if you've been meaning to
check it out and all those Figel World shows are amazing,
I just haven't had a chance to check out Disco's show.

Speaker 2 (13:22):
But there is still time before January third.

Speaker 3 (13:25):
Aren't going to have to go check it out.

Speaker 2 (13:26):
Sony one six Sunny when I was six point five.
Las Vegas is official Christmas music station.

Speaker 1 (13:35):
It's Joanna and Sean and this time of the year,
a lot of people end up on the Naughty List
for different reasons, but does not participating in the office
Secret Santa.

Speaker 2 (13:44):
Lend you there.

Speaker 4 (13:45):
We have one colleague here who's being very vocal about
not wanting to participate in the office Secret Santa party.
She thinks that, you know, she's she's being forced to
spend money that she doesn't necessarily want to spend on
people that she doesn't want to spend mone on.

Speaker 1 (14:00):
I think it just kills morale if like one person
sits out right, because like everybody's thinking, like, oh, Janie
didn't want to participate.

Speaker 2 (14:08):
I made that name up, by the way. It's like like.

Speaker 1 (14:10):
She's like she's not participating because she's angry about something.

Speaker 2 (14:13):
It just kills the vibe when it's like.

Speaker 1 (14:15):
You know, one persons just not I don't want to
call her bad apple because she has the reasons and
she's allowed to, but it just kills the morale, especially
with us being.

Speaker 2 (14:23):
A small office.

Speaker 4 (14:24):
Yeah, and I'll be look if I could be very
blunt right now. I don't know that there's enough people
in here that like one another to want to buy
each other a present. Like I'm imagining you picking the
name out of the hat and you're like, Nope, not
that person.

Speaker 3 (14:37):
I'm buying them nothing.

Speaker 2 (14:39):
And listen, and I want to I'm wanna pile on
to you right there, Sean.

Speaker 1 (14:43):
I always have to always find it interesting when like
bosses suggest this, it means they don't want to get
their team individual gifts. Ah, they want to save money,
and just like, oh.

Speaker 4 (14:52):
You all take care of one another. And I'm going
to sit this thing out exactly right right. Mandy's on
the line here, Mandy, what do you think should this
person have to participate or is she like just setting
boundaries here and that's totally fine.

Speaker 9 (15:05):
I think that person has the right to say no,
because you know, it's Tiggertana is like there's always some
kind of monetary mough that everybody has to hit and
it's so hard usually to fall right in that like
twenty to thirty dollars category, and then it also just
becomes so obligatory and not even really buying something for somebody.

Speaker 1 (15:28):
Like that you want to buy, right, it's just kind
of like obligation. You drew that person's name. Yeah, you
gotta buy for them now.

Speaker 7 (15:35):
Yeah, Yeah, I don't think they should be forced.

Speaker 8 (15:37):
To do it.

Speaker 3 (15:38):
Yeah, I get it.

Speaker 4 (15:39):
And also that that twenty dollars, Like, what's really great
at that twenty to thirty dollars?

Speaker 3 (15:44):
That doesn't years ago?

Speaker 4 (15:45):
Twenty years ago, a twenty to thirty dollars dollars gift
was solid. These days, it's just junk that ain't gonna
make it out the building, honestly.

Speaker 1 (15:51):
Because you can't bring alcohol to the office.

Speaker 4 (15:55):
Coming up in just a bit eight thirty five, you
go commercial free for an hour, and then at nine
four Joanna and Sean's Stocking Stuffer as we got some
gifts for you on the way wake.

Speaker 3 (16:04):

A holiday gift basket valued at one hundred and fifty
dollars from Eminem's World, which is located at Showcase Small
if you've never been, that's been one of my favorite
Las Vegas Strip attractions for years. I mean so unique,
Eminem's everywhere, and of course it's a huge space.

Speaker 3 (17:49):
Yeah, well you.

Speaker 4 (17:50):
And also if you want to get some very unique
like a unique present this year, they do those. They
have a personalized printer there you could put some fun
images like the welcome to Las Vegas sign or some
of your own designs as well. But look, I'm an
M and M's guy. If I see a ball of
em and M's, I'm taking a handful all every single time.

Speaker 2 (18:05):
Who could just eat one?

Speaker 1 (18:06):
Right?

Speaker 4 (18:07):
Right? It's impossible. So the way to win go to
Sunnybittter six five dot com. Go to the contest page
and we have a keyword you need to enter, and
today that keyword is candy. Enter the keyword candy for
your chance at that one hundred and fifty dollars holiday
basket from Eminem's World, and you might be getting a
call from us tomorrow morning.

Speaker 3 (18:24):
Good luck.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
