Speaker 1 (00:00):
Sunny one O six point five, Las Vegas's best variety
of the eighties nineties, and today it is the out
of office check in with Joanna.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Hey, good morning, Hey, good morning, Happy Monday. Now, love
is definitely in the air. One of my best friends
recently got engaged, and so I wanted to tell you
a little bit about that. You know, I thought my
days of being a bridesmaid was like fully over, shan
And I've been a bridesmaid like a lot throughout my.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
Life, right, mm hmm, Yeah, I've been. I've been in
many wedding parties myself as a groomsman or even an.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
Efficient sure, and you know that when you are a
part of a wedding party, that comes with a lot
of expenses, right.
Speaker 1 (00:42):
It sure does. It adds up to it adds up quick.
It's not like it's not a small thing to ask
people to get involved in these things, for sure.
Speaker 2 (00:50):
And you know my best friend, you know, she's super excited.
She deserves all this love and this happiness. I just
honestly thought my days of being like a bridesmaid or
maybe a maid of her were done, and so were
those expenses. Right, And so my friend, my girlfriend, she
keeps like sending me like links to like engagement party
(01:11):
ideas and like bachelorette themes, And I'm like, I'm taking
it as she wants me to plan this stuff, and
as a best friend, as a close friend obviously, like
I will lend my support like if she asks me to,
but I don't know if it's one of those things
because I haven't done it in such a long time,
Like is she wanted is she not wanting to ask me?
(01:33):
Is she wanting me to offer that up?
Speaker 1 (01:36):
Like? What would how would you take it?
Speaker 2 (01:38):
Like if somebody was if you knew they were getting
married and they were sending you like all these like
theme hints and concepts for like an engagement party and
a bachelorette party, Like would you take it as like
they want you to plan it? Because that's kind of
how I'm feeling right now.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
Well, let's keep in mind that this is like one
of your best friends, right, So I would imagine she's
just super excited about it and wanting to talk about
all of the fun and excitement that goes along with
planning all of these things with her best friend. Right,
So what I would do is I would simply I
would indulge it, you know, contribute to it. I wouldn't
offer to plan anything unless specifically ask to. Like if
(02:15):
you get the ask, hey will you be my maid
of honor or you be in the wedding party, And
at that point it'll kind of be up to you
to decide, like what your level of involvement will be.
But I would honestly tell you this, I would not
feel bad whatsoever at this point in your life, especially
with a newborn, to be like, look, I am tapped out.
I will help you plan it, I will send ideas,
I will make phone calls, but I will not be there.
(02:37):
I love you to death, but I am going to
be tied to my couch sending all love in the
world I know and listen.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
I think that's I've just had like a really hard
time like saying no to people, especially people that like
I'm very close to throughout my entire life, and like
I am fully excited for her and want to be
there for her for all these milestones, but honestly for me,
even if you know she gets married next year or
in twenty twenty seven, like I can attend the events,
(03:05):
but it's it's the expensive things like being a bridesmaid
and a mative honor like that is expensive these days,
like more expensive than when I got married. So I
think for me, it's like the budgeting of it all,
and like, how do you say that to somebody? Just
be upfront and honest and be like, I don't know
if that's in my budget.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
I have gotten far more comfortable at forty years old
with telling people like, hey, this is just outside of
my budget. Like I wanted to do a golf trip
with some buddies of mine, and when they threw the
price at me for travel and room and board and
greens fees, I was just like, guys, this is where
are we planning a wedding or like a golf trip,
Like what is happening right now? I can't take out
a second mortgage on my home just to go golfing
(03:46):
with you guys. So like it's, oh, yeah, you just
got to be you just got to be candid with
people sometimes. Yeah, I know.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
I think I'm at that point too, where I'm just
like very unapologetic about my current situation and there's no
shame in that and my budget right, like yeah ahead, right.
Most people know that going from like one kid to
two kid like drastically, your expenses are going to be increasing,
which they obviously are right now. And listen, I don't
want to have fear of missing out that have that
fomo going on, But in terms of my budget, I
(04:16):
may have the jomo there and the joy of missing
out not having to spend spend that type of money right.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
Now, right, we do love some jomo. But look, Joanna,
if anyone knows how to plan a party, it is
most definitely you, So she will be fortunate to have
you in her corner as far as the planning get
is concerned. But don't feel bad about nixing yourself from
anything costing you a dime.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
All right, thank you for that confidence boost this morning.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
That's exactly what I needed.
Speaker 3 (04:40):
Son six.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
Sonnyweow six point five. Las Vegas is best variety the eighties,
nineties and today it's Sean. I'm finding myself very inspired
this morning by today's sunny story of the day. It
focuses on Ada Serrano and her daughter. They live in Summerland,
and a couple of months back they launched their very
own business called Mommy and Me Porch Bakery. And when
(05:04):
I say porch Bakery, I mean, they are literally selling
baked goods from out in front of their driveway. Ada's
daughter came to her with something she'd seen on Instagram
and said, we can do this. And guess what they have.
They've amassed tens of thousands of followers on Instagram and
they're selling a whole bunch of incredible baked goods from
right in front of their house in a cabinet that
(05:25):
is literally in their driveway. They're selling sour dough bread, brownies, cookies,
all kinds of muffins, and it's been incredibly successful for them,
and the time right now is perfect for you to
try and find the same kind of success. There's a
new law that was passed in the Vetter recently AB
three five two, and it modernizes Nevada's homemade or cottage
(05:46):
food laws and it aims to allow more residents to
earn a living from their kitchen. And the new law
allows cottage food operations to sell their products online or
by phone. It also raises the annual revenue cap from
thirty five thousand to one hundred thousand dollars from producers.
There's all of this to say, that's a lot of
jargon to say The timing has never been better for
you to try and start that small food business you
(06:06):
have been dreaming of doing. Because we're all looking for
ways to make a buck out here. Let Ada Serrano
and her daughter be your inspirational but everything you need
to know at Sunnywindow six five dot com just click
on Sunday Mornings. This is Sunday Mornings with Joanna and
Sean on Sunny one oh six point five. Good Monday morning.
It is Sunny Window six point five. My name is Sean.
(06:27):
If you or someone you know are waking up at
Buffalo Bill's Resort in Prim this morning, it's the last
time that was it. Sunday night was the last night
you could book a room at Buffalo Bill's. That's shutting
down the hotel operations and focusing strictly on events and
concerts and things like that. Opened in nineteen ninety four
(06:47):
by the Prim family, so it's been opened for around
thirty one years. One of three opened by the Prim family.
We saw Whiskey Pete's close back in December. Prim Valley
Resort last one still op rating, so they're still gonna
be doing concerts and weekend events and things like that.
But the hotel operations are are no more. They've actually
(07:08):
booked some pretty big acts in the past. Who they
have They had Aretha Franklin, Snoop dogg Reeba McIntyre, I
think had some pretty big names over there at Buffalo Bills.
But no word yet. And what's going to happen to
the staff if you try to book a room now
at Buffalo Bill's to get redirected to Prim Valley Resort,
the last of the three Prim family establishments still operating.
(07:31):
Here's a fun fact. The Desperado roller coaster when it
opened back in nineteen ninety four, was the tallest fastest
roller coaster in the world. I had no idea two
hundred and nine feet above the freeway right outside of
the resort. Buffalo Bills, another iconic establishment closing its doors.
Sunny One was six point five. Another chance out of
one thousand dollars coming up here in just a few minutes,
(07:54):
Sunny six point five. Sunny One was six point five.
It's Shawn. I know we've all seen not just the headlines,
of course, but just the heartbreaking pictures and videos of
the floods in Texas and have those residents, those families
on their minds that have lost their homes, the communities
have been shattered, lives have been lost, children are still missing.
(08:17):
There's a massive need for help there. I know a
lot of people want to help, and the problem is
that people don't know where to start. They don't know
who to trust, who to give money to, and afraid
it's not going to go to the right places. We've
done the research for you. I can tell you right
now that if you'd like to help out, you can
donate to the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund. That is
a group of vetted local organizations. They're focused on response,
(08:40):
relief and recovery efforts, flood assistant programs for displaced families,
and rebuilding efforts and the hardest hit areas. Again, that
is the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund, and you can
donate at Community Foundation dot net. All of that money
is going to go directly to trusted local organizations that
provide food, shelter, healthcare, and you know, hope of course,
(09:05):
so Community Foundation dot net. I have seen many people
in our social media feeds. We are a community here
in Las Vegas of many transplants, myself included, and there
are former Texans that live here. I've seen in our
feeds that have been talking about knowing people personally affected
by this. So if anyone here again would like to
(09:25):
help out, Community Foundation dot net is where you can
safely do that. Thank you. Wake up with Sunny Mornings
with Joanna and Sean on Sunny one six point five.

plastic Man. He was on the the UNLV nineteen ninety
championship basketball team, played with coach Jerry Tarkanian back when
they beat Duke in nineteen ninety. Well he is back
(10:10):
and working with UNLB basketball again. He was an assistant
coach for the team back in the mid two thousands.
Has done a lot of stuff around the NBA, but
now he is back and has been hired as the
director of Community Engagement. Going to be focusing on things
like alumni outreach, mentoring players, and helping with recruiting. So
if you see Stacey Augman aka Plastic Man out and about,
(10:33):
say hi, he's going to be getting really engaged. I
do love that about all of our local sports teams.
I think they get more involved with the community than
most others. I mean, take a look at our Golden Knights,
our Aces UNLV. Love that seeing a former player come
back and get involved once again. Commercial free music next

I recently read about a six year old girl who
had a birthday party at her house and she invited,
(11:16):
of all people, her bus driver. Fairly, the two of
them were think of thieves. He actually did come to
the party. They ended up hanging out the whole time together.
I think the rest of her friends probably got to
ignore it, which I think is a little adorable. But
tell me about that unlikely friendship of yours. Let's go
to line three. Good morning, who's.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
This hidy morning? This is Kaitlyn.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
Hey, Caitlin. So, do you also have kind of like
an unlikely friendship in your life that just works for you?
Can you tell me about that?
Speaker 3 (11:42):
I do. Yes, Like the crossing guard at the end
of the road. Every day, I walk my dog at
about the same time and they're also you know, crossing kids,
and we stop and have a really good two to
three minute conversation every day. You know. He tells me
what's going on in his life. I check in with them,
and it just wors He's like seventy five years old
(12:02):
and just a good guy.
Speaker 1 (12:04):
I love that, you know. I got to tell you,
I've never had a bad experience talking to a crossing guard.
They always seem might be a really big hearts, Like
these are folks that want to be involved in their community,
Like they're usually retired and they want to do something
and be around people, and getting involved with kids is
always a good thing to do. I got a lot
of respect for crossing guards.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
Yeah, And they're out there rain shine always and they
really do that. Our drivers are crazy and they really
do protect the kids all around.
Speaker 1 (12:32):
Good person, Thank you so much. I appreciate that, no problem,
Thank you. Well, take some board calls next on Sunny
but a six point five six point so. Who is

Speaker 1 (13:10):
Oh love sky Kenny. You're right near my old my
stomping ground. So what's going on? You have like an
unlikely friendship in your life that just works for you.
Speaker 4 (13:20):
I really don't know how it happened. Neither of us
understand how it happened. But my ex boss, who was
an older gay man, and I'm you know, I was
a little bit younger than him, a little bit a
lot younger than him, and you know, we just worked together.
You wouldn't think looking at us that we have anything
in common. We looked like the biggest odd couple. But
it ended up we have like theater in common, just
(13:41):
a lot of things, and we like to go to
concerts and we've become the best of friends. And we
don't work together anymore, but we stayed friends for like,
I don't know, seven years now.
Speaker 1 (13:51):
That's so sweet. I love that. I think it's important
to have like a diverse friend group, right.
Speaker 4 (13:57):
Honestly, he's a blessing in my life. He's one of
the most wonderful people that I know. He's just a good,
good soul. So yeah, I can't believe it's random friendship.
Speaker 1 (14:05):
No, I love that. What's his name, let's shout him
out here this morning. His name is Rafa Ralpha. Well,
good morning, Rapha. I hope you hear this. You've got
a great friend over here. Well, have a great day.
