Speaker 1 (00:00):
Sunny when I was six point five off Vegas's official
Christmas music station. Good morning, It's Joanna and it's Sean
and we love supporting so many incredible organizations throughout the year,
but specifically this time of the year, and we get
to partner up again with our friends at Children's Miracle
Network Hospitals.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
We partnered with them for the first time last year.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
But welcome into the studio this morning is our friend
Debbie from Children's Miracle Network Costs but I'll say.

Speaker 3 (00:21):
Debbie, thank you so much for having me and Angela
from M Resorts.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
Good morning, Good morning.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
Well, we got fun event that we're going to be promoting.

Speaker 4 (00:29):
We really do so coming up this Saturday, Breakfast with
Santa at M Resorts, and it's going to be benefiting
Children's Miracle Network. Such an incredible organization and M Resort
appreciate you so much coming in to make this all
come together. Let's talk about why this was important to
get involved as M Resort.

Speaker 5 (00:48):
Well, we were approached to host the Children's Miracle Network
Breakfast with Santa, and you know, we're really excited to
have just opened the doors on our brand new hotel
Room Tower and now that we have seven hundred and
sixty five guest rooms. We realized Santa cannot visit each
and every one of the sure, so we agreed to
have Santa come down to our brand new Montese Ballroom,

(01:10):
where we will be hosting breakfast and kids can color
with Missus claws, have breakfast with Santa and enjoy all
of the holiday festivities.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
That's so awesome.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
It's gonna be a really great fun morning. I mean,
I feel like it's like almost like a VIP opportunity
with Santa Claus right, who else gets set breakfast with Santa?

Speaker 3 (01:27):
Right?

Speaker 2 (01:27):
And he's bringing missus class. Oh how fun is that?
You get the whole family, the whole family. I love that.
Now tickets are very affordable too.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
Let's talk about ticket price, and I love that you've
made it super easy for people to buy tickets. So
ticket price ten dollars for kids, fifteen dollars for adults,
can't beat that. And all people have to do is
text Santa to three four nine eight four to get tickets.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
Yes, yes, please do it.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
It's going to be a phenomenal, phenomenal day or morning,
and there'll be so many festive activities to partake in
Santa's sleigh. I heard he's going to park his sleigh
near for his picture spot, so it will be a
neat opportunity to bring some kids in to get some
fun Christmas cheer.

Speaker 4 (02:09):
I love that again. Texts Santa to three four nine
eight four to get tickets. And we had the privilege
of walking through Children's Miracle Network Hospital at Saint Rose, Dominican.
And let's talk a little bit more about the work
that you do so that people understand what going to
breakfast with Santa is going to help accomplish.

Speaker 2 (02:27):
Well, thank you so much, Sean. We have partnered.

Speaker 3 (02:30):
We've been the local Children's Medical Network hospital since two
thousand and five, we being Saint Rose and we treat
over forty five thousand children a year and that all
of the money that is raised under the Children's Miracle
Network logo in the valley.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
We have thirty five corporate sponsors.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
So when you see him at Walmart, at Costco, at
Smith's and now at AM it's all coming to the
Children's Medical Network at Saint Rose. We provide a charity
care to the pediatric patients who are unable to hey
their bills. When you know nobody wants a sick child,
and of course, and how devastating is it when you
really look at the bills and you cannot do it.

(03:07):
So not only are you fighting to get your child well,
but you have financial financial burden. So we provide charity care.
We provide resources for families in the hospital, such as
child life specialists, and that is actually the only salary
that is paid for under Children's Meracle Network. Like, for example,

(03:28):
I have an operating grant. I work in the health Foundation,
so one hundred percent of the money raised goes to
support the children when they're in the hospital and their families.
We are on cutting edge side of equipment. We have
the only VR goggles in the city, so when children
need to have an MRI, they can put on VR
goggles and virtual reality goggles and not have to be sedated.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
Wow, that is I hate.

Speaker 3 (03:53):
I am fifty six and I don't like an MRI.
Try to get a three year old in there for
forty five minutes. It's crazy town and now less need
for sedation and that sort of thing. And when you
did walk through, you were kind of enough to share
with me your experience in nick you and we birth
about three hundred babies a month, and probably ten percent

(04:14):
of those at some point end up in the nick
you and so that is a very fragile area of
our hospital, and a lot of the money goes for
equipment in there. Just one giraffe of that is, you know,
sixty five thousand dollars and let alone all the four
hundred thousand dollars ventilators. And it's just crazy. It's the
amount of pediatric equipment. It's not just little adult equipment.

(04:38):
It's very specialized because of the development that the child
is at. If they're only twenty two or twenty four weeks,
they are precious and too small, and so there's a
lot of very special equipment that is purchased through the
funds raised by our wonderful sponsors in the valley.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
Oh, we love that so much. Speaking of wonderful sponsors,
of course, we've got to reiterate the fact that M
Resort has stepped up to host this incredible day, Angela,
What does it mean for M Resort to partner up
with an organization like Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.

Speaker 5 (05:06):
You know, we're just so grateful for the opportunity. When
we were approached, it was a perfect time for us.
It's an exciting time at the m Resort. You know,
we're the team headquarters for the Las Vegas Raiders. You know,
we have the the Silver Knights as well, and all
of these companies do so many things to reach out

(05:26):
into the community and we do love to partner with
with all of our with all of our organizations. So
we really just thank you deb for the opportunity to
be a part of something that means so much too.
We are on our local community.

Speaker 3 (05:40):
Thank you, and it is so you know, one of
the things people think of Las Vegas maybe as the
lights and glitz and glamor and not so much of
the charitable angle. But we're a very very responsive community
and we're very.

Speaker 2 (05:54):
Grateful for the support.

Speaker 3 (05:56):
So make sure you come out and have some some
hotchio with Santa and make get some pictures. And I
was told we have French toast sticks, which.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
That's an exciting thing. It was a special request, right. No,
it's going to be phenomenal.

Speaker 3 (06:15):
We have talked to all the elves and we have
some wonderful things that props and beautiful.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
It's going to be a beautiful event. So please do.

Speaker 4 (06:22):
Absolutely not just breakfast with Santa. But those highly coveted
family photos with Santa, I think most importantly the memories
you're going to make and of course benefiting such an
amazing cause. I shown this Miracle Network so.

Speaker 3 (06:34):
And may I say Cashman Photo is donating those. So
everybody has been to an event and cash has been
the photographer, so they're phenomenal. But we also are very
thankful for Clark County Credit Union who gave us a
five thousand dollars sponsorship for coloring books and that sort
of thing. Delta Airlines gave us some equipment for not equipment,
some special crafts to provide to the children, so we've

(06:58):
had some really great in addition to the m them
is obviously they presenting wonderful, beautiful account.

Speaker 5 (07:03):
Wait to see that ballroom, our brand new ballroom. Yeah,
I love to have Santa Claus in there right.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
And premiere event in your Monta. Yes.

Speaker 3 (07:13):
So anyway, we're very very grateful for everybody who's coming
out and supporting us.

Speaker 2 (07:17):
Thank you for Sunny one to win a six point five.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
Of course, this Saturday, m Resorts Miracle Morning Breakfast Breakfast
with Santa's happening eight to ten am. Nice and early
so you have the rest of the day to have
some fun too, which is always great. You can get
tickets right now by texting Santa to three four nine
eight four. Again, text Santa to.

Speaker 4 (07:37):
Three four nine eight four Angela, Debbie, thank you so
much for coming in today and telling us all about
breakfast with Santa.

Speaker 2 (07:44):
We're very grateful for you. Thank you so much.

Speaker 5 (07:46):
Thank you

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
