Speaker 4 (00:42):
It's a victory Friday edition of.

Speaker 5 (00:45):
The A Team. It's Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 4 (00:48):
Wex and AC with you full four hours, and that
probably won't be enough to get in everything we want
to say about what happened just a few short miles
from here last night. We're sitting here in the gallery
of It's a little after two o'clock on a Friday.
I feel like I was in a car wreck eight
times or more last night. But I can only imagine

(01:11):
the ice situation that probably at this very moment Josh
Allen is experiencing. At least I would if I were
him and the Texans defense handled me like that last night.
That was an absolute blood bath, no pun intended with
all the red in the building, but man, those uniforms
are spectacular. I know we talk way too much about

(01:33):
that on this show. I just take a second to
talk about how that set the tone because it really did.
As they kept piling up all eight sacks against that
defense or against that offense, I should say it just
it fit the mood of the building. And even though
with I guess a Gadget trick like play there in

(01:53):
the late going, it almost felt like, oh my gosh,
or the Texan's going to blow this. Texans able to
gut it out twenty three to nineteen, and it's not
a life support situation. Their playoff hopes are actually very
much alive right now.

Speaker 5 (02:08):
With CJ.

Speaker 4 (02:10):
Stroud waiting in the wings. He was definitely on the
field last night. He was there and he was definitely involved.
By the way, but man, what a spectacular victory for
a Texans team that suddenly can't lose. Six of eight
they've won since starting the season zero to three, and
last night definitely they had to earn it.

Speaker 6 (02:30):
The massive winning streaks of the Patriots and Broncos, those
are the only two teams who've been better than the
Texans since Week three. This Week three, the Texas just
completed their Week twelve with their victory last night. You
mentioned they've won six of eight, getting those six wins
in that span of time there are only two teams
that have more. It's a thirty two team league, and

(02:50):
you're sitting at that high of a pedestal over more
than half of the season, technically barely. Again, it's only
eight games, so it's less than half of a season,
but wise it's nine weeks, so it's more than half
of the season. It was exactly as you described, not
only in that the numbers just kept going higher and higher,
but it's when they did it. We got one, Okay,

(03:11):
it's second and long. Well, we just got another one.
So now it's third and even longer, and third down
and six, and he's walking and running and scrambling, and
now he's down and they have to punt over and
over and over again. I don't know if this simple
part of the numbers from last night was even stressed
as much as it probably should be. You know, the
Texans got to the half after scoring a touchdown with

(03:33):
five seconds left to take the twenty to sixteen lead,
and Josh Allen took the snap and took a knee
and rolled on into the Bill's locker room, having been
sacked one time. And then he played the second half,
where he was sacked seven times. Eight sacks in a
game is outrageous. Seven sacks in a half is unheard of,

(03:54):
and that's what they did. And all that being said,
the Bills still had the football down less than a
touchdown looking to drive for the game winning score, which
they nearly did.

Speaker 5 (04:04):
You mentioned the conversion of that fourth and twenty seven.

Speaker 6 (04:06):
Gonna hear from a lot of the players I talked
with in the locker room after the game on that
play and how to recover from that play going forward
on fourth down. Yeah, we saw it a lot in
the game last night from the Buffalo Bills. One, two, three, four.
Five times they went for it on fourth down. The
last time they went for it, kln Blocks secured his

(04:29):
second interception of the night, and it secured the victory
for the Texans. They have been trying to get to
five hundred all season. They finally got there five days ago,
and now they're above five hundred because they've won two
games in the last six days. They've won their last three. Yes,
obviously all without CJ. Stroud participating. He participated in practice
this week. He was standing on the sidelines with a

(04:51):
headset and not super on top of where the offense was.
He obviously had the play sheet with him right there
on his wrist. He was clearly talking on the walkie
talkie to people throughout the game, but he wasn't sitting
next to Gerard and Davis and Graham when they would
come to the sidelines. He would make his way over
to different places over the course of the game, but
as you said, he was definitely involved in things. I think,

(05:13):
all things considered, he's going to be a lot more
involved when he's out and he's on the sidelines. If
he's recovering from an ankle injury, yeah, or a shoulder injury, sure,
or a chest injury, he's still recovering. And even if
he's cleared, so to speak, which is usually about where
they're at if they're going to be on the sidelines.
We saw the same thing with Titus Howard the week

(05:33):
before he was cleared of concussion protocol and played in
the upcoming game. But it's obviously all the things we've
seen from him this past a couple of days are
signs pointing to absolutely he will be cleared. He has
getten to a certain point past the symptoms, and yes,
we can waste our time if you would like, and
I'm not gonna say we can't, but come on now,

(05:54):
we don't need to. It's dumb topic. We're happy to entertain.
It's our dumb people don't do it. But we will
be back on November thirtieth against the Indianapolis Colts with
the Texans looking to get within a game of the Colts. Now,
is there some leeway in between what you actually want
to happen? Because the Texans have six wins and the
Colts have eight wins, you have two games remaining against

(06:16):
each other. Daniel Jones was cleared today. He's good to go.
There's no injury designation for him, though they changed the
injury from yesterday's CAF to today's fibula. I don't think
Shane Steichen has gone into details on exactly what it is,
but that's a little bit curious.

Speaker 5 (06:32):
One is a bone and one is not. He's got
a bone.

Speaker 6 (06:36):
It's interesting that it would be listed in different ways
from one day to the next.

Speaker 5 (06:39):
But the Colts play the Chiefs this weekend.

Speaker 6 (06:41):
You know, the Texans are now six and five, the
Chiefs are five and five, and the Colts have eight wins.
Their game this weekend will put them on the same
path as the Texans. They've now had their buy we
can are returning to the field, so they'll play their
eleventh game. A loss would put them at eight and
three with six games remaining, two of which, as I said,
are against Houston. The very next game the following week

(07:02):
is against the Texans. So if you want to hold out,
hope playing the way that the Texans are by all means.
I still am a little bit more focused on just
getting the invitation. The win last night moved the Texans
from eighth in the standings for the AFC playoffs into
eighth for the standings in the AFC playoffs. They still

(07:23):
need help to get well.

Speaker 5 (07:24):
Help don't started this week. They're the first game well.

Speaker 6 (07:26):
Just in general, but yeah, I know these teams, every
team in front of them is over five hundred, so
more often than not they're expected to win unless they're
playing each other. So those are the games of great importance.
I think there could be major news coming out of Cincinnati. Unfortunately,
maybe not yet this week, considering what the Bengals have
left on their schedule. You don't play them, but a

(07:47):
lot of teams in the playoff picture play them, and
if Cincinnati is being quarterbacked by the good Joe instead
of Joe Cool. They might actually win some of those games,
not to get themselves in the playoffs, but to prevent
other teams from sitting ahead of Houston or certainly the
two teams specifically in the AFC North. But just a
never ending list of things that are worthy of touching

(08:08):
on from last night's victory, from what the offense did
for about fifteen minutes to what they didn't do for
about forty five minutes, having confidence in your kicker with
Kymi Fairbarn back out there, lacking confidence in your special teams,
and that they gave up a ninety seven yard touchdown
on a kick return, which was rather tragic at the time,
Texans' lead lasted for thirteen whole seconds. That's how long

(08:30):
it took ray Davis to take the ball from the
three yard line and do what now two teams have
done to the Texans, Like Parker Washington a couple weeks ago,
when he spun around and fell backwards into the end zone,
Ray Davis decided to flip into the end zone. The
time he flips in, they aren't even winning. By the
time he crosses the plane. They do take the lead.
But there are so many, so many, so many things.

(08:53):
There's so much sound we want you to hear from
these guys in the locker room. We know that Tamiko
o'rians is a very creative motivator, and Will Anderson will
shed some light on one technique that was used in advance
of this game. Huge all the way around, just the
kind of thing that gets you excited about what the
final six weeks could present. As the fans were out

(09:13):
there a night game at NRG Stadium, no matter what
the rest of the season has looked like this year,
In most years, it's usually a pretty good atmosphere, and
it absolutely was a lot of Red in the crowd.
It's possible some of them were wearing their Red Bills jerseys,
but who could tell. I was asked, were there are
a lot of Bills fans there? I think there were
a similar number of Bills fans as to some of

(09:35):
the recent trips that other teams have made in but
there were definitely more Texans fans. Like the stadium was
much more full, and the much more full portion came
because many more Texans fans came inside, used their own tickets,
enjoyed a late afternoon and evening of tailgating, but still
came inside for this show and it was the best
show the Texans have had in a long long time.

(09:57):
And defensively, I'm pretty sure this will rank as the
best defense the Texans have ever had. But I don't
think there's much doubt. Even with the stupid Steelers game
where they won a game by scoring three touchdowns.

Speaker 5 (10:09):
And David Carr was terrible that it doesn't count.

Speaker 6 (10:11):
This was the best game considering what they were up
against and their season and everything else. This is the
best game their defense probably is played. Even though it
was a four point game. I'll give them a little
grace in that the Bills opened the game with a
touchdown run of forty five yards on their opening possession.
They have James Cook, they have Josh Allen. They didn't

(10:31):
go to the end zone again the rest of the game.
Not one time did Josh Allen or James Cook or
their offense lead them into the end zone for the
final fifty five minutes of the game.

Speaker 5 (10:40):
It was and we're gonna talk about this next segment because.

Speaker 4 (10:44):
We were both there but seeing it from two different perspectives,
and it's not that you know, I could see anything
you couldn't, or vice versa.

Speaker 5 (10:53):
Although you had.

Speaker 6 (10:55):
Low res version of Coaches film because you were closer
to the actually correct I had high res versus of
Coaches film, but I had almost no real feeling for
what the stadium was like. It is amazing, how ridiculously
terrible and awesome. The windows in the press box are
at keeping the sound out. I don't get here in

(11:16):
the stands, so you have a much better feel for
what it was really like inside.

Speaker 5 (11:19):
I was thinking about that very thing all night long.

Speaker 4 (11:23):
When my people, you cole anybody else that I like
that's in the media, are trapped in a little soundproof
box with all that food, Well, I'm well exactly, I
mean you managed to make it.

Speaker 5 (11:36):
There are some.

Speaker 4 (11:37):
Persons somehow you spent a lot less money than I
did on food last night, I'll tell you that much.

Speaker 5 (11:43):
But yeah, I don't like that.

Speaker 4 (11:45):
But yeah, I do want to talk about the aura
maxing over at NRG Stadium last night when we come back,
and how about this. How about for the first players
sound of the day we give it to, Maybe not the.

Speaker 5 (11:57):
Guys who were.

Speaker 4 (12:00):
I don't know if they would be the defensive MVPs,
but the tandem, it was definitely that Bullock can put
his submission forward for player of the game.

Speaker 5 (12:11):
On the defense of all got game balls. All three
people you're talking.

Speaker 4 (12:15):
About two that we're gonna hear from next segment. Holy,
they look even scarier in red. Let's just put it
that way.

Speaker 5 (12:22):
Fantastic night.

Speaker 6 (12:23):
Great to be with you this afternoon, looking forward to
the discussion. You're always welcome to be a part of
it via social media, via the phones, any other way
you'd like to find us. We'd love to have it
for you. Plenty of other things also are on the board.
We'll have our stone cold locks coming up at four thirty.
Big weekend in college football for some of the conferences
that still play games within their conference against good football teams.
The tout a few weeks of the season, but not

(12:44):
all of them, and we obviously will also bring you
best of X in about twenty minutes, and the Rockets
are playing tonight for the Cup at Toyota Center. All
on the board here on the eighteen, the eighteen on
Sports Talks ninety.

Speaker 7 (13:02):
My body's a Ken and my time is Texans take
care of business.

Speaker 6 (13:07):
Last night twenty three to nineteen over the Buffalo Bills,
the team one of the teams ahead of them in
the AFC playoff standings, but now just a game ahead
of them and without the tiebreaker. Texans obviously have that now,
having beaten them and having taken them to task with
how they decided to protect Josh Allen and how he
decided to never ever ever get rid of the football,

(13:27):
you know, not take a sack. He liked him because
he's kept taking him over and over and over again.
The edge rushing duo of the Texans matched the rest
of the NFL combined. How many players in the NFL
have ten or more sacks? Would you like to take
the entire league or just the Texans duo? Well, what's

(13:49):
the same. Two Texans now have ten or more sacks.
Two other players in the entire NFL have ten or
more sacks. Brian Burns and Miles Garrett are the other two,
and now both Will Anderson and daneil Hunter, thanks to
their efforts this season and most specifically last evening, reached
that same mark a game where it wasn't even just them,

(14:11):
but certainly the focus of any team's defensive or excuse me,
offensive game plan is going to be focused there.

Speaker 5 (14:16):
But one, two, three, four, five.

Speaker 6 (14:18):
Six different Texans players involved in getting to Josh Allen
and last night's game. Four and a half of them
attached to those two, the other three and a half
attached to the other members of the Texans defensive front
and Henry to Atoa. But along the front, Tim Settle
had a sack, Derek Maarnette had a sack, Mario Edwards

(14:40):
involved in one of the late sacks, and then Toto
has got them to that total of eight. And on
top of that, seventy yards of lost yards is insane.
That's almost the entire length of the field. And when CJ.
Stroud goes spinning in circles and you're like, man, why'd
you take that eleven yard loss? What happened like eight
times last night with Josh Allen, including an eighteen yard

(15:01):
loss when he got hit by will Anderson first and
last he ran away from him for like ten seconds
and then he got caught by him and that was
one of the eight sacks. They had eleven tackles for
loss and twelve quarterback hits. Their pressure rate was through
the roof individually and as a team. Some of the
best numbers that any team has put up in a
very very long time, and they had to do it

(15:23):
all the way up until the final play of the
game to ensure they would win. Also, of note, didn't
hear it mentioned much last night. I didn't ask anybody
about it. Just kind of a little piece to the
game that happened very very early. We mentioned that lone
offensive touchdown that the Bills had last night, the forty
five yard run from James Cook, which was followed by

(15:45):
Matt Prater's miss on the extra point. Huge, Well, you're
up twenty three to nineteen late in the game because
they were down a point because they missed an extra
point and didn't go chasing it. And I don't think
they should have. I don't think they played it poor
the rest of the way from a numbers game standpoint.
But if that kick gets made, it's twenty three to twenty.

Speaker 5 (16:06):
It's completely different. The Bills approach to the.

Speaker 6 (16:08):
Final field goal range the moment they handled the hook
and lateral. As soon as Shakir got the ball and
nobody was anywhere near him, they went full Boise State,
not guaranteeing you Prater makes that kick.

Speaker 5 (16:23):
But the game is completely different.

Speaker 4 (16:25):
I'm guaranteeing he makes that kick and they're going to overtime.
There's no doubt in my mind. Maybe there's time left
because money Mills would have led another drive since he
scored three points in the second half, that's all they
would have needed. That's true. He didn't score three points
in the second half, of course.

Speaker 5 (16:40):
Yeah. I uh, just real quick before before we get.

Speaker 4 (16:44):
To the audio, talking about the environment in that game
last night. And again, I don't go to games as
much as I used to, not even a little. But
the majority of the games I've attended in that building
have not been like they were last night. They've been
with you in that little soundproof box they call the
press box, and you can tell when it gets.

Speaker 6 (17:05):
Loud with windows that open, right. The only time here
they've opened this season was during the halftime extravaganza to
put a fourth member into the Texans Ring of Honor.

Speaker 5 (17:18):
Are you serious?

Speaker 4 (17:19):
Yes, they opened the glass in the press box for Janice.

Speaker 5 (17:23):
That's how I heard her so clearly. The rumors that
I was the reason that they were never opened.

Speaker 4 (17:29):
I didn't want to be open because I didn't like
being able to work and to hear all these people.

Speaker 5 (17:33):
That was just like many of people right there next
to you, booing or cheering.

Speaker 4 (17:37):
That's a reliant stadium urban legend that John McClain had.
The uh, the the sterile environment creat.

Speaker 6 (17:44):
You can vouch for the very good environment at Thursday
night football for Texans last night.

Speaker 4 (17:49):
The environment, gosh, it was just it was the best
non playoff environment that I've ever been and I've been
in the stands for a playoff game. Well it was
the Can City game, so I wouldn't really call that
a playoff game because most of the time two teams
play and that that gay that day, it was what
thirty to nothing?

Speaker 5 (18:09):
What a stupid waste of time that was that day.

Speaker 4 (18:12):
Very cold outside too, but yeah, just electric from start
to finish.

Speaker 5 (18:17):
The game presentation is elite. They really do go above
and beyond. And I'm sorry, the red is just sick.
It's just awesome.

Speaker 4 (18:27):
I know, I'm not like, I know, I'm always into
the gear more than probably anybody else that does what
we do for a living. But when it looks that good,
when you get it right, it's just like the City
Edition stuff. The Rockets, the Astros, they just they have
knocked it out of the Park.

Speaker 6 (18:43):
I'll say one thing about the red. I love the red.
I love that they're full red. I've said before I'm
not a huge fan when it's all monochromatic. Although this
is different to me. I actually like their previous initial
helmet prior to this helmet, because this one's leaning a
little bit more to their new scheme and the curved
bull that's a part of it. I thought their old

(19:04):
helmet was a little bit red. Yeah, the old red helmet, gotcha.
They had a previous version that popped a little bit more,
and I just thought it was a little bit better.
But there's nothing to complain about. There nothing to complain
about the performance of the defense. And obviously you've played
three games without CJ. You've scored more than your opponent,
and all of them the offense had a little bit
to do with each of those instances. But we'll start
with the edge rushing duo. Last night, Will Anderson Junior

(19:28):
another monster game, all over the place and chasing down
Josh Allen. Throughout the evening, he talked about how this
team has been, you know, moving towards this since they
got off to that poor start, and how kind of
it envelops you with pride about where you were to
where you are, and he also closes out this awesome
comment with how awesome his buddy is over there on

(19:48):
the other side.

Speaker 5 (19:49):
Number fifty five.

Speaker 8 (19:52):
You know, early on in the season, like you're getting
a little frustrated with the sacks and everything like that,
but like I'm like, man, it's starting to open up
for us. Man, we just got to keep hunting. I
think tonight was just a purple the perfect example of
everybody just hunting relentlessly, man like, doing whatever it takes.
And I think the hunt hit it on the head.
When we had our meeting, he was like, bro, empty
the tank, like leaves her crawling off the field, and
like the energy that he brings to our group and
the message that he brings like a silent killer, And

(20:14):
we really look up to him because he's like, bro, okay,
if you're not saying, we're gonna do it, because like bro,
we see him doing all the time. But like he
was like empty the tank man, And I think we
did a really good jompt that as a whole team.

Speaker 4 (20:24):
Who's tank silent killer? Who's he calling heart disease the
silent killer?

Speaker 6 (20:31):
I mean I was standing there when he said it,
And that was around eleven or so last night, so
thirteen and a half hours later, roughly. That thought you
just mentioned not crossed my mind until just now.

Speaker 4 (20:42):
I always hear the silent killer and I think of
heart disease. I thought it was a perfect description.

Speaker 6 (20:47):
Yeah, Daniel Hunter, he is not a man of many words,
not when we're talking to us. But this is like
the fiftieth time a player in their locker room, specifically defensively,
specifically on the defensive line. He means so much more
to them and says much more to them than I
think people think. Not long speeches, not fiery speeches, not
the guy getting to motivated and hyped up for the

(21:08):
football game, but actual important stuff about here's how we
go out and win, Here's what we need to do.
Empty the tank. You need to be crawling off the
field when this game is over. Did it look like
that's the effort they gave. Absolutely?

Speaker 4 (21:20):
But seriously, who wants to go up against the terminator
and heart disease? It's a great tandem, nickname, What are
you talking about?

Speaker 5 (21:26):
Man? You can go up against heart disease.

Speaker 6 (21:28):
I mean, you're you're gonna lose, right, and catch on, man,
I mean, is that the idea you're trying to promote
going up against the silent killer Daniel Hunter?

Speaker 8 (21:36):
I E.

Speaker 6 (21:36):
Heart disease. Well, heart disease is going to win. Is
that what you're trying to say? Yes, Okay, both are killers.
I'm gonna I'm gonna say he's gonna not like that nickname.

Speaker 4 (21:46):
By the way, you I'm sure have seen the pregame
speech given by one Aziz al Schier about don't.

Speaker 6 (21:56):
Be a dog, be a wolf. Yeah, there's a ferry
training him. Well, there's also probably a reason he said that.
Will Anderson shined some light on that last night during
a different portion of his comments with us in the media.

Speaker 5 (22:09):
Last night, we'll hear from his teammate Daniel Hunter.

Speaker 6 (22:12):
Momentarily we got to get to best of X and
a whole lot of other things about how the Texans
have turned an OO and three start into a possible
playoff season.

Speaker 5 (22:23):
Here in twenty twenty five, the.

Speaker 1 (22:26):
Eight on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (22:32):
Did you all see this?

Speaker 3 (22:33):
We should be putting out between five and fifteen posts
a day.

Speaker 7 (22:37):
Four hundred people were arrested for things so they said
on social media. History repeats itself type buel succeed. Never
doubt that you're the one troopers for no one building.

Speaker 5 (22:50):
You're the best X.

Speaker 2 (22:53):
Nothing's ever top.

Speaker 5 (22:54):
You know you're the best X posting every single day?

Speaker 9 (23:00):
Is you o?

Speaker 5 (23:00):
The best of it?

Speaker 2 (23:03):
Breaking the entire Internet?

Speaker 4 (23:14):
How many videos have you seen over the last What
are we at now close to?

Speaker 5 (23:20):
Well, let's just say the last twelve hours since.

Speaker 4 (23:22):
The the game ended involving for example, like the one
I saw earlier today, and again I was full disclosure,
I was driving, so I was more listening to it
than watching it, but it was it was basically the
equivalent of a blog boy for the Buffalo Bills.

Speaker 5 (23:38):
I don't even know his entity.

Speaker 4 (23:39):
It was one of those that came up because I
was watching a video and that was the next one
that came up, and it was it was actually I
was listening to.

Speaker 5 (23:46):
Dan Rolowski, who were gonna hear from next segment.

Speaker 4 (23:48):
But this guy was probably about the most well measured
in his reaction to what happened last night as anybody.
He's like, first of all, give credit where it's due.
The Texans defense is the best defense in the NFL.
We haven't seen something like this since I think he
was talking about the Jets in two thousand and nine,

(24:10):
eight somewhere in that range when Rex Ryan was with them,
the performance, the numbers they're putting up, and the type
of defense. You and I talked about this the other day.
You're not gonna get a steel curtain. You're not gonna
get a early two thousands Ravens defense, because in today's NFL,
I just don't know that that's possible. I'm sure somebody's
gonna try, but this is the closest you've gotten. And

(24:33):
this guy, for what seemed like a good minute straight,
just superlative after superlative of praising the Texans defense what
they are able to accomplish, and really he gave praise
to Davis Mills as well, but he's like, go ahead

(24:54):
and hit me up in the comments because I hate
life right now, or something to that effect.

Speaker 5 (24:58):
They're going through it. Honestly, what are they seven and three?
After that? Four? Seven and four?

Speaker 4 (25:04):
Yeah, I mean they're they're gonna be okay, but probably well,
they're in better shape than the Chiefs right now.

Speaker 6 (25:14):
But after Sunday they could be just a game ahead
of the Chiefs. Granted they have a tiebreaker in hand, right,
But yeah, they're in better shape. They have seven wins
for sure. The mathis is there in front of them.
I just wonder how the games though.

Speaker 4 (25:28):
I mean you always hear about the online panic, online
that all that kind of stuff. I do wonder how
Bills fans are handling last night after seeing that just decimation.

Speaker 5 (25:39):
Well, how did the Texans start their season again?

Speaker 8 (25:41):
Uh?

Speaker 4 (25:41):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (25:41):
In three? And how did the Bills start their season?
Had a big one in opening night.

Speaker 6 (25:49):
And then the three weeks that followed they also had wins.
They were three and oh there were four and oh
oh wow, I didn't realize that now they're three and
four cents. Yes, they're absolutely wondering a couple of weeks ago,
especially in the opening week when they were down fifteen
to Lamar Jackson and the Ravens, but they came back
and they beat them. Okay, window wide open. Beat the Jets, Dolphins,

(26:12):
and Saints. Congratulations, But hey, we're four and oh we
barely have to win any other games. We're getting to
the playoffs and we're gonna win the division again. Okay,
windows still open. Well, now they think they lost the
division yesterday, that's what they think.

Speaker 5 (26:27):
Happened.

Speaker 6 (26:28):
If they don't beat the Patriots when they meet again
in New England in three and a half weeks, well
that pretty much ends it. That's a three game lead
or a three win lead and the tiebreaker, so that's
a four game lead. You only have five other games left.
It's almost impossible for them to repeat as AFC East champions,

(26:50):
just with that one result hanging over them. They have
a game against Pittsburgh their next Sunday game. They still
have a game against the Eagles, and as I mentioned
in the opening segment, one of their remaining games is
against the Cincinnati Bengals, which for weeks looked like, who
we're gonna get one of the last games without Joe Burrow.
We're gonna clobber those guys. This is gonna be awesome. Well, instead,

(27:13):
you're getting one of the first games he's gonna play.
But he's gonna be out there, most likely on December seventh.
They're a totally different team when Jake Browning or Joe
Flacco isn't throwing passes, and they're also probably not gonna
have to worry about, well, who are we gonna throw
the ball to besides T Higgins. This week because Jamar
Chase is suspended, and I don't think we even ever
mentioned that, and that was a no brainer and an

(27:34):
unfortunate one. We never really debated whether or not a
player like Jalen Carter or now like Jamar Chase should
actually be suspended for a game for making the other
player a little bit more wet, even though they're probably
very wet because they've been sweating with their own personal spit. Yes,
but at one game suspension precedent was pretty much, pretty

(27:54):
clearly already put in place with the previous issue with Carter,
so I don't think there was much reason to think
this was going to be a different punishment, nor would
he win his appeal, got the same punishment, did not
win his appeal. He is not playing this weekend, but
going through it's an interesting thing. I was down on
the field recording my from the field video for the

(28:14):
YouTube video up on my page, and there were plenty
of Baltimore actually to be Buffalo reporters down there filming
similar things TV.

Speaker 5 (28:23):
It was more about, yeah, we got to talk around
the sound.

Speaker 6 (28:25):
We're gonna use of those recording stuff for their social media.

Speaker 5 (28:29):
Very different.

Speaker 6 (28:30):
This is one I don't know how Bills fans are
gonna be able to deal with Tim Settle. You mean
a player that was here in this Buffalo locker room
for years. They couldn't figure out how to get him
to help their team, and now he's out there bringing
down Josh Allen for one of the eight times get
it together, Bills.

Speaker 7 (28:47):
This one hurts. This to a backup quarterback. You guys
lost to Josh Allen, lost to it.

Speaker 6 (28:54):
Josh Allen's not on the field, and Davis's out there,
Davis Mills.

Speaker 5 (28:57):
He was good for fifteen minutes. Maybe that's it.

Speaker 6 (29:00):
And yes, you did lose largely because you couldn't put
points on the board and your offense was at fault
for that because the better unit when Josh Allen was
on the field for the rare, very rare occurrence was
the other team. The other team's defense, Bill's defense, like
expecting them to help you win a game. We told
you this all week. I'm sure you listened. I'm not

(29:22):
trying to pat ourselves on the back. We're just following
along with what's happening.

Speaker 5 (29:25):
They're not good. They do not have a good defense.

Speaker 6 (29:29):
The Texans do not have a good offense, and that's
what you saw last night. How come the Texans can't score? Well,
I think you're seeing why they can't score. Look at
this open receiver, but the ball's not where it's supposed
to be. Look at this open receiver, but that ball's
not supposed to where it's supposed to be. All over
the first really twenty snaps or so for the Texans,
many little bits and pieces of beyond that to get

(29:51):
to in much more detail. But yeah, best of X
on their side, because I think Texans fans handled this
a little bit better, not trying to go too far,
too fast. Bunch of people talking about how dangerous this
team could be. Maybe we will talk about that next
dangerous the Texans, some people think so, they'll talk about
that next.

Speaker 1 (30:17):
The Age On Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 5 (30:25):
Friday edition of the A Team.

Speaker 4 (30:26):
It's Sports SoC seven ninety simulcast will begin at the
top of the hour over on Space City Home Network
if you want to check us out on TV. Mention
that Dan Rolovsky was and he has been ever since
ESPN hired him. I'm not a fan of a ton
of things ESPN does these days because it just it's
awful in all likelihood.

Speaker 5 (30:47):
Whatever you're watching.

Speaker 4 (30:48):
There's a lot of bad programming, but Dana Rolotsky is
not one of those people. Dana Rolovsky just breaks down,
film fantastic. We've had him on the show. I think before,
at least we've tried to do we have them, I
can't even remember.

Speaker 5 (31:01):
Now I think we've reached out. I'm not sure we
need to get back on.

Speaker 4 (31:04):
We have him on the show right now. Yeah, you're
gonna hear from it. We're gonna have him on the
show right now, not as a guest. Listen to him
talk about not only the Texans defensive performance last night,
but just where they're at in general, and as it
pertains to what WEX has been screaming from the rooftops
for a couple of weeks now, they're very much in
the playoff hunt, and it's actually not out of the

(31:27):
question that they get in there, especially in light of
some other things that are going on around them in
the AFC. But listen to the superlatives, as it were
from Dan Rolovsky.

Speaker 10 (31:37):
They're the one team that nobody in the AFC wants
in the playoffs.

Speaker 5 (31:39):
This is the best defense in football. The teams that
they've lost to, they've lost to by five, seven, eight, one,
and three. Those are their five losses.

Speaker 10 (31:47):
Every team they've lost to is a playoff team. I'd
say this right now, as far as yards per game,
this is the best defense we've seen in the NFL
in close to like fifteen years. Two thousand and nine,
the Jets with Rex Ryan, that was the last time
we saw defense at least yards per game. Give up
what this defense gives up.

Speaker 5 (32:03):
They got a.

Speaker 10 (32:04):
Defensive player of the your candidate and Will Anderson. They
got a pass Russ specialist and Daniel Hunter. They got
a linebacker group that is as downhill as anyone. They
got a secondary that hunts, they can cover, and they
take the ball away. This is an offense right now
that is starting to find itself. This is the defense
that you don't want to see in the playoffs. And
I would say this, and I love them. Put a
lot of pressure on CJ. Stroud now because when CJ.

(32:24):
Stroud went out, they started to win some games. He's
now gonna come back and they're no longer on the
outside looking in from the playoff perspective.

Speaker 2 (32:31):
They're right on that line.

Speaker 10 (32:33):
And it's an expectation now to get in.

Speaker 6 (32:36):
Three things. Two of them together that I'd like to
pull from what he just said. He said, this is
a team nobody wants to play in the playoffs. Then
he amended it later in the comment this is a
defense nobody wants to play in the playoffs. The second
comment is the right comment. That is absolutely right. No
team that's headed to the playoffs and the AFC wants

(32:59):
to have to figure out, how do we keep our
quarterback upright and capable of putting points on the board
against this group? How do we figure out what nobody
else has really figured out how to do. The Seattle
Seahawks have had the most success. I think you could
argue against the Texans defense so far this season, and
that's remarkable in and of itself because they have a
quarterback who absolutely craters under extreme pressure.

Speaker 5 (33:22):
He's done it again this year.

Speaker 6 (33:23):
That's why his teammates were coming to his defense because
he was so awful, even though he's been so good
the rest of the year, but when he was under pressure,
when he threw four interceptions, it looked just like the
Sam Darnold that was at the end of last year
and the beginning of the postseason last year that had
a great season is a great quarterback. The stakes got higher,
the pass rush got to him, and he made countless mistakes.

(33:44):
That's the one quarterback who's faced this defense and has
had pretty good success both this year and last year.
But I would totally agree with Orlowski's assessment. If you're
the you know you name it, if you're the Patriots quarterback,
if you're the Broncos quarterback for a second time, the
charge will see him see them later this year and
then potentially in the playoffs. Daniel Jones, whomever you might

(34:06):
be talking about, there's no reason to you would want
to face every single other AFC team's defense before Houston's.
Then he also mentioned all those close game losses. Well,
that's why it's not the end of the world to
face the Texans because they have trouble scoring. Their point
total is or per game so much higher since those

(34:27):
first three games because of the one, because of the
forty four point game, and obviously they have played a
little bit better. And the other thing I really wanted
to point out is I don't know if people are
down with this, believe in this, think it's hogwash or
where did you come up with this idea? Do you
think the Texans defense is even more on edge to
be great because CJ. Stroud isn't playing the last three weeks.

(34:53):
We have to do even more. Oh, we have to
be more dominant. We have to win the game all
by ourselves because we can't count on our offense led
by Davis Mills and what we've done so far this
year to win games.

Speaker 4 (35:09):
No, and here's why they don't think about their job
that way. And that's how they think of it. It's
our job to make life absolutely miserable for the opposing
offense and then let the chips fall. Do I think
that some players might maybe have that in the back
of their mind, I guess, But.

Speaker 5 (35:26):
No, no, no, no, don't waiver. I think you gave the right answer.
I know I told you the question, like I believe
the second part of the sentence. I believe it.

Speaker 4 (35:32):
The second part of the sentence is I don't think
that any NFL defense thinks that way, because the second
you start thinking that way.

Speaker 6 (35:40):
Miles Garrett does, well, he's he's like, oh my god,
I had five sacks and we lost.

Speaker 5 (35:44):
Again. I had four sacks and we lost. Fair to
what you just said.

Speaker 4 (35:48):
Look at his quarterback room they're starting should do or
Sanders this week as they should.

Speaker 5 (35:53):
But I just I don't know.

Speaker 4 (35:55):
I think that there's one thing that and Miles Garrett
great defensive play individually this unit.

Speaker 5 (36:03):
I mean, I disagree with what you said.

Speaker 4 (36:06):
Good you should the we don't want to play the
Texans is the way to think of it, because the
Texans don't come with just one unit.

Speaker 5 (36:14):
It's I understand what you're saying. Oh that part of it.

Speaker 6 (36:17):
That one I always almost always bristle out like they're
a playoff team. They're a playoff team. I mean, I
guess you can pick and choose who you want. I
suppose there's a reason why the Texans are playing better. Okay,
so maybe we're not really facing a six and five team.
Maybe we're facing the six and two Texans from the
last nine.

Speaker 5 (36:34):
How about this?

Speaker 4 (36:35):
Just I'm not again, I'm not gassing them up any
more than I need to right now. But what if
what if you get this offensive line play for CJ
that's not a homer take.

Speaker 6 (36:47):
If they play the Bills again, they might get it.
How many sacks did Josh Allen get last night? He
was sacked eight times.

Speaker 4 (36:52):
How many times did Davis Mills hit the turf from
a sack zero times. I mean, if CJ doesn't get
sacked next week against the Colts and they play that
way too defensively, I like their chances.

Speaker 5 (37:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (37:02):
I don't want to rate to the Cardinals and the
Raiders defenses as they get there later this year. Well
they're not the Bills, is the point. Yeah, the Texans
offensive line was great. Davis Mills had all sorts of
time to pick them apart, and he'd been able to.
But you're not playing defenses like this very often. Buffalo's

(37:23):
defense is bad. Yeah, Buffalo's pass rush currently is bad.
And the Texans were able to easily dominate them at
the line of scrimmage with their offense on the field
let alone. Obviously they did the same when their defense
was on the field.

Speaker 4 (37:40):
How many elite defenses have they played the Texans? Well,
they played one to open the year against the Rams.
In my opinion, I thought that would be the best
defense they face. Seattle certainly could say something about it,
but it's probably Denver. It's Denver the beginning of the month. Yeah,
and that's probably how I would rank Those Colts are
have a game on their hands next week.

Speaker 5 (38:00):
Should be fun.

Speaker 7 (38:00):
Can't wait to get there an hour in three more
hours to go, loads of Texans postgame reaction for us
to dissect and drive through the final three hours of
this program here today on the eighteen That is all.

Speaker 2 (38:12):
Next the A Team on Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 1 (38:16):
Ninety two lifelong Houston sports guys named Adam Talking your Team's.

Speaker 3 (38:28):
Adam Clinton and Adam Wexler are the eighteen eighty eighty.

Speaker 4 (38:37):
Welcome in to our number two of the A Team
Sports Talk seven ninety Welcome into our number one on
Space City Home Network.

Speaker 5 (38:45):
Simulcast has begun.

Speaker 4 (38:46):
We will take you up until six o'clock today on
a victory Friday after the Texans knockoff the Buffalo Bills
last night inside n RG Stadium, twenty three to nineteen
the final. I'm gonna go ahead and just pat myself
on the back for getting close. My final score prediction
was twenty four to twenty one. Almost that would have

(39:07):
hit the over they did not. But yeah, we've talked
about it all throughout the first hour. An electric atmosphere,
amazing showing by that defense and just enough offense to
get you to next.

Speaker 5 (39:22):
Week where you figure to get CJ.

Speaker 4 (39:24):
Stroud back after now a long layoff because they played
on a Thursday. And I mean, I'm not the doctor here,
but it's gonna have been three games he's missed. He
was participating heavily last night in the proceedings coaching. I
would even say we were sitting I don't know, ten

(39:47):
rows behind the Texans bench, so very close to be
able to see that kind of stuff. The medical tent
was right in front of me. He's like itching to
get back out there. I know you've probably seen the
a little a little bit thrown around on a social
media of a freeze frame of Demico giving the speech
in the locker room and CJ's off to the side

(40:08):
looking in that exact frame where this guy took this
from downtrodden, not a part of the celebration. Blah blah
blah blah blah. That's definitely a decision to make. But
he's I watched the whole video just to make sure. Yeah,
I watched the video.

Speaker 6 (40:22):
How about that I was also in the locker room,
and CJ was also in the locker room. While I
was in the locker room, he seemed down. He did
not seem down.

Speaker 5 (40:29):
Anybody in that locker room.

Speaker 6 (40:30):
See seemed like he was he was recovering from a
concussion and not quite as animated as he might normally.

Speaker 4 (40:37):
Be, and that shows you how bad it was. I think,
I mean, that's a that's a.

Speaker 6 (40:46):
It just shows and concussion, because, like we've talked about earlier,
if it was some other injury and he just couldn't play,
because video would have been jumping around and just as
fired up as anybody else. Even that's says guy wearing
a cast on his arm or anything like that. I
think being about what you're with, the reason you're out
when it's a concussion is all that was taking place.

Speaker 4 (41:04):
But you have to admit having seen him in the
locker room setting other times where he is not recently concussed.
It would be harder to determine whether or not Davis
Mills was concussed based on his day to day behavioral
just going about my business in the locker room versus CJ.

Speaker 5 (41:23):
Shroud.

Speaker 6 (41:23):
I had to preface a question to Jayden Higgins last
night and say, I know Davis Mills never changed at
all during the game. However, what changed for the offense
in the second quarter? Because you guys obviously were successful. Obviously,
he doesn't ever change. He is the same, whether he's starting,
whether he's not starting, whether he was a kid in
his first two years, whether he's a fifth year pro whatever.

(41:44):
And yes it's a little bit different, but yes I
did see the social media is fun if you want
it to be. Social media is dumb if you want
it to.

Speaker 4 (41:51):
Be not quite rage baiting, but definitely clickbaiting with that,
and he got his engagements.

Speaker 5 (41:56):
But look if to me or if CJ.

Speaker 4 (42:00):
Stroud is back for this week's game against the Colts,
it's sort of poetic. It was a game against the
Colts the Davis Mills quarterback that they won that got
them CJ.

Speaker 5 (42:10):
Shroud.

Speaker 4 (42:10):
It was a game against the Colts that CJ won
in his rookie season to clinch a playoff berth in
that building, by the way, both times, and it was
it's going to be a game against the Colts this
week in which if CJ makes his return, he's hoping
obviously it's a triumphant one.

Speaker 5 (42:28):
But man that you were.

Speaker 4 (42:29):
If you think the vibes were good after last night,
if CJ comes back and you go to Indianapolis and
hand them a very rare and twenty twenty five loss
on their field. That's that's got the makings of a
little magic run.

Speaker 6 (42:42):
It's already kind of getting there very well. Could be
Demiko Ryans after last night's victory. If you saw some
of the postgame celebration, he clearly indicated was that any fun.

Speaker 5 (42:51):
He was very fired up. He always is after wins.

Speaker 6 (42:53):
This one specifically, I'm sure because of what the defense
took care of in the last night's game, and ultimately
it was the defense that was on the field to
finish the win. They had to go out there and
make multiple stops during that drive, had multiple sacks during
that possession, and had multiple sacks and obviously ended the
game with a turnover. Jamiico Ryans after last night's game

(43:14):
on the defensive performance.

Speaker 9 (43:15):
Credit goes to first and foremost our defensive line, Like
for the way they go out, the way those guys
relentlessly rushed the passer, and everybody on the back ends
playing sound and playing together. When we do that, we're
tough to move the ball again, So our players are
doing an outstanding job.

Speaker 5 (43:34):
I mean, it was.

Speaker 4 (43:36):
An absolute juggernaut performance from a defensive unit that was
already the reputation going into last night. It was all
anybody was talking about because, like we said, it was
going to be the best chance for the Texans to
get a victory. And it sounds cliche to talk about
winning the turnover battle and all that kind but they
did all the cliched check mark things that you've got

(43:58):
to do with the team in the current state it's in.
And I know that sounds derogatory towards the offense, but
I mean, we gotta be honest.

Speaker 5 (44:06):
It should. Yeah, we gotta be honest.

Speaker 6 (44:08):
You were a plus eight in the sack category. They
had eight, the other team had none. They were a
plus three in the turnover category, they had three, the
other team had none. And you had to pick off
a pass on the last play of the game basically
to win it. Otherwise you're going to lose it. Speaking
of cliche, more ahead of them. Should you be in

(44:29):
these categories to have comfortably won, you would have comfortably
won the game if the Texans first trip to the
red zone would have been successful. It was not, though
it should have been. You would have comfortably won the game.
If the offense would have produced a single touchdown in
the second half. They only produced a single field goal,
despite multiple possessions and much better field position than Buffalo

(44:52):
had always undersold part of a victory, or how you
handled things defensively when you made the team start with
eighty plus yards of field in front of them consistently
all evening long. Driving on the Texans defense is hard enough.
It becomes even harder when you're starting at the nineteen
and the twelve, and the five and the ten and

(45:12):
the eight, and their final drive of the game, because
they were lucky started.

Speaker 5 (45:17):
At the eighteen.

Speaker 6 (45:18):
That was the punt inside the ten yard line from
Tommy Townsend that was correctly handled by the punt coverage
team that got behind the ball between the ball where
it bounced and the end zone so it wouldn't go
in the end zone, but it bounced away from the
end zone and clear Shakir picked it up and gained
ten yards, and they still were inside the twenty to

(45:39):
start one of their drives all freaking night.

Speaker 4 (45:43):
You also would have been comfortably ahead had the probably
biggest mistake of the night on either side of the
football not taking place from I believe it was Daniel
Hunter with the clear block in the backs on Jeck Barnett.
Derek Barnett, okay on the on the would be pick six,
I'm like, you got to be kidding me.

Speaker 9 (45:59):
He may.

Speaker 4 (46:00):
He made it in the end zone and it's going
to be negated. That killed me. That was a great
return from Bullock.

Speaker 6 (46:06):
He saw traffic in front of him as he was
running towards the end zone and was able to stay
on his feet. He cut all the way across the
side of the field. The whole defense is still kind
of in that area. That is a long way to go.
He did get a couple of key blocks. Unfortunately, the
path he took left Derek Barnett in a bad spot.
But he should have definitely known I'm in a bad spot.

(46:27):
If I block him, the play's over. If I don't
block him, he might still score. He was actually definitely
going to still get so he hit him and it
was an easy call and call that should be made,
and it not only took the touchdown off the board,
it put him in a position where it wasn't going
to be a short field goal unless you gain some yards,

(46:47):
which they basically didn't and only got a field goal
out of it.

Speaker 4 (46:50):
The other thing that annoyed me last night was the
return for a touchdown that the Bills got in the
second half.

Speaker 5 (46:59):
The block that freed him was completely a hold.

Speaker 4 (47:03):
It was an egregious hold on the sleeve of the
of the UH would be defender.

Speaker 6 (47:08):
There, presuming that's Woodard, I think number thirty two.

Speaker 5 (47:11):
Mm hmm, I'm not. I didn't I've watched it. I
don't know.

Speaker 6 (47:15):
I didn't see what you're describing. I didn't think he
I thought he was block.

Speaker 4 (47:18):
A sleeve that comes down over the pad. Yeah, it
looked to me like he was being held right there
on the exact that's the exact block he needed to
get free for the rest of that rule.

Speaker 5 (47:29):
Well, he ended up running.

Speaker 6 (47:30):
Davis ran into his blocker, which was basically the only
contact anybody made with him movie if it was a
clean block, that's why he scored the touchdown. That was
the gap to run through. Woodard, by the way, was
playing his first game of the season. He had been
elevated from the practice squad with Jamal Hill out. That's
probably Jamal Hill in that position any other game this year.
But I don't think Woodard did anything wrong. He was

(47:51):
in his gap, he was doing his job. He just
was unable to either free himself from an illegal block
or just free himself period, and Davis able to get through.
There's one of those. I don't I don't even liked.
I feel bad for the kicker. They're in a terrible situation.
He made Kindmi look bad, but that's totally normal, as
he easily ran past him, made a quick little move
and was nowhere near being touched, and he easily put

(48:14):
it in the end zone. That play took place after
the Texans had gotten the interception, after the Texans had
only gotten a field goal, and that's why they only
led for thirteen seconds. What happened after that is why
the Texans. One of the biggest reasons why the Texans
won the game, if you want to take a non
defensive reason, they turn around and scored a two minute drill.

(48:37):
That's I was talking to somebody in the press box
about it. I thought that was probably the best two
minute drill they've had in the first half of the
entire season. Davis Mills went five for six on the drive.
They threw six passes on the drive, all but one
of them was completed and helped them move down the
field and the touchdown throw to close out that drive.

Speaker 5 (48:54):
It was great.

Speaker 6 (48:54):
I mean, this was the few moments in the game
where the second quarter basically when he went nine for eleven.
If you look at his overall numbers, you'll see how
poorly he performed throwing the football the rest of the game,
although he didn't have a ton of turnover worthy throws,
which is also noteworthy. But that second touchdown pass to
Jayden and Higgins to close out that two minute drive, Higgins,

(49:15):
holy cow, he put the defender on his butt. What
a great get off. He gave him a little shake
and the guy fell over backwards, and Davis saw it,
and Higgins saw it, and he threw him the pass
and he caught it right there at the front end
edge of the end zone and tumbled backwards into it
for an enormous answer touchdown. Texans field goal had put

(49:36):
them in front by four right after the turnover, which
they should have converted into a touchdown thirteen seconds later.
The kick return has the Bills in front by three
with less a minute forty three left in the half.
You scored your touchdown with five seconds left, five seconds
left in the half to take the halftime lead. That
was enormous. Heard from several guys about that particular part

(49:59):
of the game, more on the specific nature of what
the Texans wrecking ball defense had to do, more comments
about the animal that both Will Anderson and Daniel Hunter are.

Speaker 5 (50:09):
That's all coming up here on the.

Speaker 1 (50:10):
A team The A on Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 5 (50:14):
Ninety Shout out to uh.

Speaker 4 (50:23):
My buddy Larry who invited me to the game last
night months ago, and I gotta be honest, I didn't know.

Speaker 5 (50:31):
He said after the I think it was the Denver game.

Speaker 4 (50:35):
They had the Jags and the Titans and consecutive weeks
following that one, and he said, if they don't win
these next two games, we're not going He'll get rid
of them, he'll set whatever it was. I don't know
the exact conversation, but you know, he invited me to
the game. It was a group of four of us,
and there was one thing about the quote atmosphere that
I did want to.

Speaker 8 (50:55):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (50:56):
You know, when you're you're in front of opposing fans
during a game like that doesn't have to be an
NFL game, but it happens a lot in NFL games. Um,
they're vocal, and you know you may or may not
interact with those people at some point during the course
of the night. But in this case, it's probably not
going to happen. And here's why. I never actually turned

(51:18):
around to see what this kid looked like. But he
was definitely a Buffalo fan. He was there with his dad,
decked out in Bill's gear, and he was screaming at
the top of his lungs anytime Buffalo did something good,
which was mostly in the first half more often than not.
As Josh Allen continued to get sacked throughout the third

(51:39):
quarter and into the second half, whose we actually got
up from our seats and went to a different location
for the fourth quarter, he got a little bit quieter.
It was not like there's yelling at it games, there's cheering.
This was excruciating, ear piecing, ear piercing like sounds like

(51:59):
a cat's being skinned to life type noise.

Speaker 5 (52:01):
It was bad.

Speaker 6 (52:02):
And not a single person said anything to him, right
because it was a kid.

Speaker 5 (52:05):
Yeah good, I mean, that's yeah.

Speaker 4 (52:07):
I mean I was proud of everybody around us for
not being because look, he's there, he's having a good time.

Speaker 5 (52:13):
You know, it was all taken into account. He was
being a fanatic.

Speaker 4 (52:16):
I hated him though, I absolutely everybody did. I'm not alone.
I'm just the one vocalizing it. Larry just texted me
He's like, yeah, the screeching twelve year old behind us
was the only bad thing about the game basically, So yeah,
amazing atmosphere last night.

Speaker 5 (52:30):
And look, Davis Mills has spelled CJ.

Speaker 4 (52:36):
Stroud about as good as you possibly.

Speaker 5 (52:39):
Could hope for during this stretch.

Speaker 4 (52:41):
Hasn't been perfect, but again last night talking about not
getting sacked.

Speaker 5 (52:44):
Also didn't turn the ball over.

Speaker 6 (52:46):
It's two straight games he hasn't turned the ball over.
He threw an interception on the third pass of his
first start during this three start span, so he just
completed his hunt or just tossed his one hundred and
thirty teenth consecutive pass without an interception last night when
he threw his.

Speaker 5 (53:04):
Last pass, that's crazy.

Speaker 6 (53:05):
That's how you can win games with your backup quarterback
when you have a great defense. Do not make it
easy for the other team to put points on the board.
Don't throw interceptions, don't fumble the football. And it's not
only not losing the fumble. The Texans haven't put the
ball on the ground other than when he fumbled a
snap during this three start stretch. They haven't lost a
fumble during that or they have lost one fumble that

(53:27):
was in that same Jacksonville game.

Speaker 5 (53:28):
That's it. That's how you can make this happen. They
caused another amazing one last night, wow.

Speaker 6 (53:34):
Where that ball was put away by Shakir. He had
just grabbed it and he really hadn't tucked it. If
he had tucked that ball away, I'm pretty sure that's
not going to be a fumble. But he was holding
it awkwardly up near his chest. It was just the
timing of he caught it, took his two steps. He'd
secured it. He hadn't secured it in a way that
he would be coached to. He just hadn't gotten to

(53:54):
that point of the play. But I think it was
correctly called on the field maybe a football move. Yeah,
came down over his chest and brought him down. Well,
that's where the ball was. That's why it looked so
clearly like a punch out. It's not a punch out
in the usual sense here in this day and age
in the NFL, where it's a balled up fist and
they're punching pigskin and it's landing on the turf. Jalen

(54:15):
Reid was in the proper place chasing him as well,
so he was able to scoop it up. He actually
probably would have scored if the one player behind the
play he was just a step in front of Miles
Bryant Dawson Knox, and he was able to tackle him
because both Lassiter and Bullock, who had immediately gotten up
to his feet, they blocked Shakir right out of the way,

(54:37):
and the second the Buffalo Bill's offensive player that was
in the picture now to try to bring him down,
was also getting blocked out of the way. I think
Reid would have just followed them into the end zone
and ended up scoring then, but Knox made a really
nice play there. One of these three times that Bullock
was involved in a Texans gather. The Texans are now
second in the NFL in takeaways. They're second in the

(54:58):
NFL in turnover margin. I am aware of the rest
of Week twelve has yet to be played, but they've
also played the same number of games as a handful
of teams at this point. They're first in the ANFC
in both of those categories, and they're freaking plus thirteen
in their last eight games.

Speaker 5 (55:14):
As they've gone six and two. That's insane.

Speaker 4 (55:17):
I didn't see it coming, and for primarily for the
reason that we're still talking about today. In light of
all the defensive praise that we're giving out, the offensive
line is probably not getting enough love because they have
increasingly played.

Speaker 5 (55:33):
I'm not gonna say they're good.

Speaker 4 (55:34):
I'm not gonna say they're elite, certainly, but they're doing
just enough for a quarterback that's doing just enough. And
Davis Mills was asked about being the QB one following
this latest improbable not really. The way they did things
last night victory by your Houston Texans, that's been great.

Speaker 11 (55:54):
I mean, I don't know if I want to reflect
too much on it. Middle of the season. We got
a long road out of us. Want to do what
we're capable of and what we're planning to do. But
I mean just grateful for the opportunity. I come in
to work every day, love my teammates, love my coaches,
and it's fun to get back out there on the field.

Speaker 8 (56:14):
And do what you love.

Speaker 11 (56:14):
I mean, I've been dreaming of being in a situation
since I was started football when I was six years old.
So every day I'm just kind of living out that
childhood dream and going out there and having fun with it.

Speaker 4 (56:25):
It's been great. I don't really want to talk about it.
He's so consistently awesome with his sound bites.

Speaker 6 (56:31):
Yeah, it's not a great place to be, but he
is super realistic about it and talking about his situation.
He's the backup and he knows it, even if some people,
both at the game and elsewhere in the social media
verse don't know that he knows it. And that's that's
good because I like when players are realists and he

(56:51):
is one. But he has done the things necessary to
help this team win. He's basically played turnover free football.
If you want some of the other numbers, and I
figured you probably would, we'll get to those. I want
to hear a little bit more from from Davis talking
about the guy who's he has to kind of take
a different tact with because he's been the guy helping

(57:11):
to support the new starting quarterback.

Speaker 5 (57:14):
Year three for Davis Mills was year one for CJ.

Speaker 6 (57:16):
Strout and case Keenan was there with him, and we
got lots of stories about how those three and their
families really bonded over trying to, you know, make everything
work here the way it would. Everybody understood their roles
and it was a really cool way that they tried
to support him. Very different when you're supporting someone who's
trying to make their way through the concussion protocol, gets
on the practice field one day this week and then

(57:37):
is obviously on the sidelines for the first time during
his stay away from playing like CJ. But this is
what Davis Mills had to say about CJ after last
night's game.

Speaker 11 (57:49):
Coming over to me and giving me pointers if he
saw something throughout the game when I was coming back
to the bench, and yeah, extremely supportive, definitely ready to
be back. He wants to get back. You can tell
he's thatction to get back out there on the field.
He was great all night.

Speaker 6 (58:03):
You noted it being on the Texans sideline for where
your seats were, and obviously could see it and spend
probably too much time in the binoculars looking for more.

Speaker 5 (58:11):
That's true.

Speaker 4 (58:13):
I love WEX on the binoculars, by the way. It's
a sight to behold, regardless of the venue, and you
do it everywhere. There's lots to see and I'm so
far away to see it. No, not a concert, but yeah,
no see. Okay, so eight stories up in a football
stadium actually needed, probably I extremely needed. Vandy calls the
game with those, Yeah, I don't know how he does that.

Speaker 6 (58:33):
I'm glad I've been able to see a lot more
stadiums over the years, both as a television person and
more recently being in the radio booth for the Cougars
games on the road and elsewhere.

Speaker 5 (58:42):
Every place is different.

Speaker 6 (58:43):
You sit in a different place, you sit at a
different height, and you know, my job duties are a
little bit different. But yeah, you need them. It's okay
to use them. And there are things that I like.
I told you our listeners this before. You can watch
the game all you want on TV. You can get
take the version of it last night because it was
a Thursday night game, and watch it with Prime Vision,
which is basically the above Field Coaches film version of

(59:05):
it live, which is phenomenal.

Speaker 5 (59:07):
I watched both versions between you. Last day.

Speaker 6 (59:11):
Aired it the NFL network after the game last night
reaired the original, and then after that earlier this morning
they re aired the Prime Vision version. I've now seen
both after attending the game.

Speaker 5 (59:23):
They don't have another Prime game this year, do they?
They do not but I'd like to see.

Speaker 6 (59:27):
That there are things that happen on the sidelines that
if you're not at the game, you just otherwise wouldn't see.
If you're covering the team on the road, it's a
nice thing to be able to provide people that follow you.
It's one of the reasons why I think a lot
of people do. And the same thing with home games.
You know, if you know a lot of players that
got off the field because they needed medical attention, athletic
performance staff attention. Well, when Woody Marks is going back

(59:48):
to the sidelines during a timeout, well, if I don't
tell you, you're not going to know that, or obviously
another reporter, if he doesn't go into the medical tent,
that's good information. If he's waiting on the sideline, ready
to check in, helmet on, ready to go, and then
you can be looking forward to him returning to the game.
Those are some of the things that just being there
you have the opportunity to see. Yeah, it's and you

(01:00:09):
brought it up. The whole reason we went into this
was because of what Davis added to it.

Speaker 5 (01:00:14):
Yeah, CJ.

Speaker 6 (01:00:15):
Stroud was participating and trying to do what he could
on a night he wasn't playing to help.

Speaker 4 (01:00:20):
Quarterback obviously, he was constantly sitting next to the receivers
a lot like I noticed him with Nico and company
a whole lot more than any other position group. But
he also went over to the offensive line, and it's
funny as he got over there to sit down, everybody
moves out of the way so that he can sit
between them, and he's just constantly talking.

Speaker 5 (01:00:38):
So he was basically an assistant coach last night.

Speaker 6 (01:00:41):
Offensive line all the way on one end by the
medical tent. Move over to their right, you'll start to
see a few other offensive players, usually the backs. Then
it's the quarterbacks and Jerad Johnson. Then there's a break
in the benches and that's where they keep all the
surface tablets. Then immediately on the other side of that,
that's where the whiteouts are.

Speaker 4 (01:00:58):
Yeah, it was fascinating to watch, and hopefully he is
back for that Colts game.

Speaker 5 (01:01:03):
A week from Sunday.

Speaker 4 (01:01:04):
We will take a quick break on the football conversation
just to wet your appetite a little bit for a
humongous Rockets matchup tonight. Joker and the Nuggets are in town.
We'll talk about that next. The age on Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 6 (01:01:19):
Ninety into the halfway point of our number two full
four hour ride today on the A team a Friday
afternoon following a Texans game in advance of a Rockets
game eight thirty tonight over toylet A Center or thereabouts,
the Rockets will get together with the eleven and three

(01:01:41):
Denver Nuggets. There are only a couple of teams league
wide that have a better record than the Rockets ten
and three. This is one of them. The other two
teams have already played the Rockets once. Both of them
beat the Rockets that came on the opening game of
the season on the road and the opening game of
the season at home. The Rockets have won every single
game they've played other than those to accept for their

(01:02:03):
initial NBA Cup game two fridays ago against the San
Antonio Spurs, this is Cup.

Speaker 5 (01:02:08):
Game number three A.

Speaker 6 (01:02:10):
Two of the other three teams will play later in
the evening for their respective third games.

Speaker 5 (01:02:15):
All five teams are one and one.

Speaker 6 (01:02:17):
The Rockets and Nuggets technically would be in the one
and two spots, Nuggets one with a plus twenty three
point differential, Rockets two with a plus thirteen point differential,
But between these two teams should they end up tied alone, Obviously,
the winner of the game would be first tiebreaker when
there's multiple tie breakers to run through, should they get there,
point differential does matter, and it does seem like teams

(01:02:39):
have played those games accordingly, not wanting to risk injury
in a lopsided game, but recognizing if they care to
that winning this game by a little bit more. If
we're already up twenty eight, let's go ahead and try
to keep it there. Could be probably not one of
those games here tonight. Maybe the Blazers Warriors pool group
see game also later on tonight. That could be one

(01:03:01):
such game, but probably not this one. The Nuggets have
gotten here by playing, like I said, similar basketball to
the Houston Rockets. They've played fourteen times, they've only lost
three times. Two of those three losses came during the
first five games of the season, so like Houston, they
have been on a roll. They have won eight of
their last nine. The lone loss was actually at home

(01:03:21):
to the Chicago Bulls. They have won very well away
from Denver, winning all but one of their games, including
their victory over the Pesky Terrible Pelicans. Pelicans are going
to be a little bit better because I think they
have a better coach than they did, but they're not
a very good basketball team. Rockets Nuggets two good basketball

(01:03:44):
teams that should provide the league with more great things
to highlight simply from a highlight perspective, and more great
teams to highlight. And I think this year, as opposed
to many other years, they've done a better job of that.

Speaker 4 (01:03:58):
Yeah, I'm interesting to see if and again he's been
out at times, there have been other players that were
in the Nuggets rotation that were out at times. It
feels like last season, and this is purely from memory,
like I love to do, it feels like last season.
I don't know if they ever played the Rockets at
what they would consider full strength and when they have

(01:04:22):
had Joker in the lineup at least, I feel like
there have been times where yeah, he's put up his
usual astronomical numbers or just had a very stellar stat line,
but that was still okay because the Rockets were able
to contain his teammates and still get the victory.

Speaker 6 (01:04:38):
Yeah, the Rockets had a hand to large victory over
the Nuggets last year in their building and lost both
games in the Rockets building and both those games came
very late in the year. These are two teams, probably
the top two teams that can prevent Oklahoma City from
winning the West. I think Denver showed their matchup is

(01:04:58):
a very good one with how that series on a
year ago, playing the full and the Rockets. Because of
how many ridiculous times they played them last year, could
you might only play them three times? Their Rockets played
them five times because of their additional meeting put on
the schedule because of the NBA Cup advancement for both
of those two teams, And that particular game was the
least watchable game. I remember it was what forty two
to forty one at the half. But if Oklahoma City

(01:05:20):
is not going to win the West, it's gonna be
because of one of these two teams. And if they're
two and three, which they are right now, they're only
gonna have to beat one of them. They're only likely
to face one of them, possibly none, but probably one.
It would take an upset to get them out there.
And I know we had a lot of basketball left
to play, and there will be injuries for all of
these teams we're talking about, including OKAC. I think there's

(01:05:44):
a really really good chance, barring a long term injury,
to happen in the future. This is one, two three,
and Rockets Nuggets are going to be playing for two
and three. I think all season loss seems right.

Speaker 5 (01:05:56):
I mean, it's just it's it's.

Speaker 6 (01:05:59):
Important that I would say tonight's game is important, measuring
stick game, all that kind of stuff.

Speaker 5 (01:06:04):
It's kind of early in the season for me. Matchups matter.

Speaker 4 (01:06:08):
I'm talking about for the postseason obviously, but I just
I think it's too early to say, oh, they've separated themselves,
but not really.

Speaker 6 (01:06:17):
I don't necessarily think that that they will have such
an advance. I just think when it's all said and done,
San Antonio will probably be a couple of games back
of that. You know, Memphis is awful this year. They
were one of the teams in the postseason. Last year
Golden State's they're too old to win all their regular
season games.

Speaker 5 (01:06:33):
We're already seeing that play out.

Speaker 4 (01:06:36):
Charlotte and Memphis have the opportunity to do something so funny.

Speaker 6 (01:06:41):
You mean, honestly, it would be absolutely nothing. You're you're
gonna say it's something, and it's like I didn't even
notice you're saying they should trade each other's now disgruntled superstars.
LaMelo Ball reportedly has indicated to the team he doesn't
like the direction of the franchise and wouldn't mind being traded.
Obviously John Moran on the other side, so flip them?
Who could tell?

Speaker 4 (01:07:02):
If for no other reason, then well, I think Memphis
would be a better team with I'm not saying they'd
be better than with Moran, but what I'm saying is
they have a better roster around a ball should he
get there. And seeing John Morant be in Charlotte, which
is a perennial loser and has been for a long
long time, going back to the Bobcat days, would be

(01:07:24):
just hilarious. He's already a ticking time bomb as it is.
Now you're going to send him out to the East
coast to play for this? Just Barren Wasteland of NBA
Suck helped.

Speaker 6 (01:07:35):
Me out here. I'm a little dumb. How far away
is Memphis in the southeast from Charlotte also in the southeast.

Speaker 5 (01:07:43):
I don't know the miles, but he's not.

Speaker 6 (01:07:45):
Really going coastal. I mean, he's already in the.

Speaker 4 (01:07:47):
Said because they're actually on the coast as opposed to
more into the mainland.

Speaker 6 (01:07:52):
But honestly, I had conferences. I no reason to really
hammer either one of these two guys here. But I
think Morent has shown the ability to play winning basketball
when they were being coached very well and when they
had the right group. I don't think LaMelo Ball's ever
been in that opportunity, So maybe you would pause on
saying he can do the same thing.

Speaker 5 (01:08:14):
But I don't like the way he plays. No, I
don't care.

Speaker 6 (01:08:17):
He doesn't seem to recognize good from bad. Oh I
have the ball, well, then it step whatever I shoot
will be a good shot.

Speaker 5 (01:08:23):
Well, then you had really good.

Speaker 4 (01:08:24):
Then you had the moron saying, oh, well, the Rocket
should trade for him because basically he plays point guard
and their point guard is hurt.

Speaker 6 (01:08:30):
Why would they trade for LaMelo Ball when they're already
going to be gutting the team to trade for Kyrie Irving.

Speaker 5 (01:08:35):
What a dumb take. That was former NBA player pushing that.

Speaker 4 (01:08:41):
Well, there's a lot of dumb like former there's a
lot of dumb current NBA players. Man, I just you
should probably trade Shingoon and or a men Thompson for
Kyrie Irving's carcass.

Speaker 6 (01:08:52):
More expensive, older unhealthy player.

Speaker 4 (01:08:55):
And why would you help Dallas do anything since they've
made a great mess of themselves since being in the
finals two years ago.

Speaker 5 (01:09:02):
Under new management, the sign's been hung.

Speaker 4 (01:09:04):
Oh my gosh, well that I hope that management does
what cole thinks are going to do soon under new
management in Vegas. Yeah, oh, I'm sure they're going to Vegas.

Speaker 5 (01:09:14):
Cole thinks they are.

Speaker 6 (01:09:15):
They moving to day will probably play an exhibition game
in Vegas during the preseason.

Speaker 5 (01:09:20):
Yes, they are they living there.

Speaker 6 (01:09:22):
I know they won't play regular season games in Vegas
because you'd have to win your way there through the
NBA Cup process, which they cannot do.

Speaker 5 (01:09:29):
What if they move there to do what like headquarters? Yeah,
they already have head there.

Speaker 6 (01:09:33):
There actually is a lawsuit about between the Stars and
the MAVs right now, and one of the sticky points is, well,
your headquarters here means you violated our agreement, so we're
going to sue you.

Speaker 4 (01:09:45):
This is Chuck Watson and Less Alexander all over again.
For these old heads out here that know what I'm
talking about. I'm an old head.

Speaker 5 (01:09:51):
By the way.

Speaker 1 (01:09:53):
The age on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 4 (01:10:05):
Feel Good Friday, that is the eighteen Sports Docks seven
ninety twenty three to nineteen Texans over the Buffalo Bills
last night.

Speaker 5 (01:10:16):
I'll say things like that in my ear. It distracts me.

Speaker 4 (01:10:19):
I'm being a professional radio host right now, Cole and
a television show host, and I can't have things like
that happening. So a number of things went very very
well for the Texans defense last night. As a matter
of fact, we'll get to one of them in next segment.

Speaker 5 (01:10:35):
Because he was.

Speaker 4 (01:10:38):
On a night where the defense was absolutely spectacular. Somehow,
Kaylen Bullock was like a cut above the rest from
an individual performance. You know'll hear both from Demico Ryans
and Bullock himself on that performance. But as it pertains
to this offensive line, I think, moving forward, you obviously

(01:10:59):
you are looking to get CJ.

Speaker 5 (01:11:02):
Back next week.

Speaker 4 (01:11:03):
And I thought one of the funniest aspects of the
people saying the thing, the thing that is unspoken that
we will not talk about because it's so dumb, you
know the one I'm talking about, right, I do the
scenario where oh, maybe we should keep going with the
hot hand. I actually saw that phrase last night.

Speaker 6 (01:11:21):
Um, you would probably catch a cold if Davis Mills
touched you with his hand.

Speaker 5 (01:11:27):
That's so mean he's hot hand.

Speaker 6 (01:11:30):
His hand is not hot. I don't can I keep
it simple like that?

Speaker 4 (01:11:35):
That's the wet, blanket idioist thing you've said.

Speaker 5 (01:11:38):
No, it's not. I mean his hand is not hot.
He does not have a hot hand. All they win
when he plays. How else to say it?

Speaker 4 (01:11:46):
You groaned and rolled your eyes more than usual when
I compared him to Tim Tebow, just from the standpoint
of because I think it's absurd. It's not absurd, it's
a mediocre to not that great.

Speaker 6 (01:11:58):
With absolute full belief in what I'm saying, zero effect wanted.
Anthony Richardson is better at passing the football in the
NFL than Tim Tebow, so comparing Davis Mills to either
one of them as passers is absurd. I didn't compare
him as a passer. Ah, that's what you do at quarterback. No,
Davis does not a running quarterback, and Tim Tebow isn't anything.

(01:12:19):
He's awful. He's an embarrassment to the position.

Speaker 4 (01:12:22):
This is where you have to let me finish my sentence.
You know what I'm saying, all he does is win,
and that's all people said about Tim Tebow.

Speaker 5 (01:12:29):
No matter how.

Speaker 6 (01:12:31):
Tim Tebow do it at the NFL level, he won
prove it.

Speaker 5 (01:12:35):
Look at his record. You look at his record, No,
you look at it. All he does is win, exactly.
I'm absurd. Well, he didn't even do that. He was
the quarterback and they were winning games. Yeah, he played
in games that they did win. Yes see.

Speaker 4 (01:12:51):
But how you described that just now isn't quite Davis Mills.

Speaker 6 (01:12:55):
But oh, Davis Mills, Oh yeah, I don't. But I
believe I'm letting this happen. You're gonna let it happen.
Just relax, man, It's gonna happen.

Speaker 5 (01:13:04):
All they do is win. You just said it yesterday,
no matter what. Davis Mills. Undefeated.

Speaker 6 (01:13:11):
Yes, And the tone of my voice indicates the seriousness
with which I delivered that.

Speaker 5 (01:13:15):
Life Do you think I'm dead serious? Right now? I'm
just telling you what people said about Tim Tebow all
the time.

Speaker 6 (01:13:21):
Right And that's why it was unfortunate that he played
in the NFL while I was doing sports talk radio,
because we had to address the dumbs. He's just ungodly bad. Arguably, seriously,
there are Joe Flackhouse.

Speaker 5 (01:13:36):
Dare he have a career? Has a career too, what
a jerk.

Speaker 6 (01:13:40):
I mean, as a tight end shirtless in the rain,
that I could probably handle when he was with the Jets,
But as a quarterback with the Broncos throwing a ten
yard pass to Dumarius Thomas that he took another seventy
yards in overtime to win a game.

Speaker 5 (01:13:58):
All he does is win well.

Speaker 4 (01:14:00):
Other quarterbacks couldn't have got him the ball where he
did to take it the seventy yards.

Speaker 6 (01:14:04):
That is one of the most amazing plays to ever
happen in the NFL. He's such a bad thrower of
the football and cannot believe he even made that throw.

Speaker 4 (01:14:14):
Okay, in college at Florida, he was just a glorified
running back.

Speaker 5 (01:14:19):
Then, Oh, it was totally different there. He was a
great passer.

Speaker 6 (01:14:23):
He was capable against college level players of completing his passes.
He was an unbelievable college football player with zero future
as an NFL quarterback. That happens all the time.

Speaker 5 (01:14:36):
Why do you hate him so much?

Speaker 6 (01:14:37):
Because people tried to convince other people that he wasn't awful.

Speaker 5 (01:14:41):
He knows what he would say. He would say, I'm
gonna pray for you. Wex. He got a lot of
anger towards me. I don't personally hate him.

Speaker 6 (01:14:48):
That sounds like you do. It sounds personal. He actually
is very good as a broadcast. Yes, and I'm totally
down with whatever it is he wants to do with
his life, which is be He's a tremendous He's.

Speaker 5 (01:14:56):
A great guy. He really is. If you've ever met
him or talking, he really is a dude.

Speaker 6 (01:15:00):
So, by the way, Davis Mills this year, if you
were wondering currently, who would you say are the two
worst starting quarterbacks in the NFL? And should or doesn't
count because he has not started a game.

Speaker 5 (01:15:12):
Gosh, there's a lot to choose from. I know, who
would you pick?

Speaker 6 (01:15:15):
I honestly, you want the number one pick in the
draft from this past year, He's gotta be up there.
You want a fairly recent first round draft pick. You
can pick either one of them. You'll be right if
you say either of their names.

Speaker 4 (01:15:26):
Who's the fairly recent JJ McCarthy, Oh, yeah, he's bad.

Speaker 6 (01:15:29):
So he's completing fifty three percent of his pass They
probably should have kept Sam Darnold. Again, cam Ward's completing
fifty eight point four percent of his passes.

Speaker 5 (01:15:38):
Davis Mills is right there.

Speaker 6 (01:15:39):
With him at fifty eight point seven, and last night
was on full display. That is an absolute freaking blowout.
If Davis Mills had an accurate night throwing the football,
he had an accurate second quarter throwing the football. But
holy cow, why I love going to games and seeing
it live. Here's a wide open room receiver, and here's

(01:16:00):
a wide open receiver, and here's the most difficult throw
you could possibly make with the formation and route tree.
The guys are running and he'll pick that and he'll
miss this guy. He threw jad and Higgins out of
bounds like fifty times, all catchable balls.

Speaker 4 (01:16:15):
Jadan and Higgins hates Davis Mills, saying, no, it's the
other way around.

Speaker 6 (01:16:20):
It's just there were so many plays to be made
and they weren't pinpoint in between traffic, no separation, awesome throws.
They just were open. Just throw it to them. And
it's why he's a backup. I'm not here to hammer
Davis Mills, but there are reasons why you don't ascend
past a certain spot. There are things he does do
tremendously well, which is maintain order. And sometimes he maintains

(01:16:45):
order so long that the play clock runs out for
no reason, but he does.

Speaker 5 (01:16:48):
He does stay by the way.

Speaker 6 (01:16:50):
He level headed, which everybody that was asked about it,
and I'll take their word for it over my opinion
on it. It matters. It's a helpful asset that a
quarterback possesses. It is calming, it is helpful. It does
keep the train rolling oftentimes when it is rolling. But man,
in yesterday's game in particular, it was like a minor
miracle to have him find his rhythm.

Speaker 4 (01:17:12):
Going back to the original point. And I know every
team's different and it's gonna it probably will be different
against Indianapolis. That's a good sign that the offensive line
is a allowing him the time to do that, and
b that these receivers you're talking about are getting open
because if CJ has that, well, he's going to feast.

Speaker 6 (01:17:29):
Yeah, he tried to make some feathery, soft throws that
would have been completed passes if he just put a
little more on it. He had Dalton Schultz in the
end zone one on some those. He had Jayden Higgins
on one of those. Yeah, Jayden Higgins open on two
other plays where the cornerback just flat out fell over
and I don't know, I didn't ask Jaden or Davis
about it, so I wouldn't want to comment forcefully on it.
But either Higgins ran the wrong route or they just

(01:17:51):
didn't see the same thing. Like when you're not on
the same page, that happens. It's not really anybody's fault.
But you know, he was so wide open and the
ball sailed out of bounds, like this is an easy
completetion and it just wasn't made. The offensive line, by
the way, not the one I expected to see when
I got out there last night. Titus Howard, this is
game eleven. He's missed a game with a concussion, so
he's played ten times. He's started at three different positions

(01:18:15):
on their line again this year's and played tremendously well
at all of them. For the first time in his career.
He's been awesome this year. He's like the Mario Williams
of offensive lineman. We're just gonna move him around. Defensive
players do that all the time. This is not normal,
not normal, but he played very well at Ingram returned
and played very well, and Trent Brown had a more
than serviceable game out at the opposite tackle position from

(01:18:37):
the rookie tay Ersery among the many things that went well,
we spin it into one of the most tremendous things
from last night's game. Not one, not two, but three
turnovers helped to create helped be created by Kaylin Bullock.
We'll talk about that when we come back here on
the A Team.

Speaker 1 (01:18:56):
The A Team on Sports Talk seven ninety two lifelong
Houston sports guys named Adam Talking your Teats very Adam
Clinton and Adam Wexler are the eighteen.

Speaker 4 (01:19:20):
It is the eighteen Sports Talk seven ninety four o'clock
hour underway. Before we get into the topic at hand
for this segment, I do need to clean something up.
We are all aware of it on the show because
we were all tagged in this tweet from Sam. He
was referencing what I'd mentioned last hour about a very young,

(01:19:44):
and i'll just say boisterously vocal Bills fan that was
sitting behind our seats last night, that Larry was kind
enough to give me a ticket to the last night's game.

Speaker 5 (01:19:55):
Had a great time.

Speaker 4 (01:19:56):
The atmosphere was fantastic, except for the very, very loud,
very screechy preteen Bill's fan.

Speaker 5 (01:20:05):
I guess I never looked back there.

Speaker 4 (01:20:07):
Larry gave me a follow up text and said he
was wearing a wrestling mask. Again, I said to him
the same thing I'm gonna say to you now. I
did not turn around to look at this kid. You
know why because I would have been full Wex in
that moment. Do you know what I mean when I
say full Wex? Well, let me tell you, since we're
on TV right now. When Wex doesn't really particularly agree
with something or just doesn't like it at all, what's

(01:20:30):
the very obvious body language he displays.

Speaker 5 (01:20:35):
You definitely can't tell. It's totally not worn on your
sleeve at all.

Speaker 6 (01:20:39):
On them all, I roll my eyes, shrug my shoulders,
and slump in my seat.

Speaker 5 (01:20:44):
What else is there?

Speaker 4 (01:20:45):
And sometimes I can't tell if that's for something I've
said or done or if it's completely unrelated. But I
have the same reaction because you have the same reaction.
I am what what's going on?

Speaker 6 (01:20:55):
I am doing some things I wish I wasn't doing
during the show. Sometimes, you know'll finish sh up work
and handling something else.

Speaker 5 (01:21:02):
We both multitask.

Speaker 6 (01:21:04):
Sometimes it's a reaction to that. Yeah, not very often.

Speaker 4 (01:21:07):
And I will say that sometimes during the break and
he'll be like it had nothing to do with you.

Speaker 6 (01:21:12):
It's you know, it's true, because you can tell I'm
not very happy.

Speaker 4 (01:21:16):
Oh he's totally pissed at something that's not me, and
you know that's physically what's the mess. So okay, Sam
tweets in and he says, I too would have just
tolerated the screaming preteen, But once they start up with
that six seven bleep is where I would have drawn
the line.

Speaker 5 (01:21:32):
Hopefully there wasn't any of that.

Speaker 6 (01:21:33):
You enjoy any of the recent college basketball games where
in college basketball teams all across the country will do this.
They'll have a weekday game or a weekend, they'll have
an afternoon game, and they'll invite the local schools out there,
and there'll be hundreds of school age children in the state.

Speaker 5 (01:21:47):
Killers.

Speaker 6 (01:21:48):
Well, this is one way to you know, you get
a group out there, and obviously it's you know, it's
get them out to the game. We'll give a discount,
all that kind of stuff. But when the team is
sitting at sixty six on the scoreboard and a freak
drawn like they do go berserk, it's quite a scene.

Speaker 5 (01:22:02):
I don't even get it. That's how old I am.

Speaker 8 (01:22:04):
Now.

Speaker 5 (01:22:04):
I don't want to get it.

Speaker 4 (01:22:05):
I get that, I get what it is, but I
still just don't what's the fascinating.

Speaker 6 (01:22:10):
Believe During Joe Aspota's recent appearance on Foul Territory, he
did unintentionally and did not make note of it, went
into a yeah, we're looking at maybe you know, six
or seven guys like there's something along.

Speaker 5 (01:22:23):
Is that all it takes? That's all it takes.

Speaker 4 (01:22:24):
So are kids listening to us right now freaking out
because you just said that four o'clock They just got
out of school. I'm not saying it again, Cole, No,
I'm not doing it like I assume.

Speaker 5 (01:22:34):
Once C. J.

Speaker 6 (01:22:35):
Stroud got hurt and they were sitting there with three wins,
you figured the Texans would end the season with six
or seven wins.

Speaker 4 (01:22:41):
Six seven.

Speaker 5 (01:22:44):
I hate you both really easy, but I don't get it.

Speaker 6 (01:22:46):
What okay, tell me this to the beginning of last
night's game, because of what Daniel Hunter had been doing
the last several games, you figured with it how much
pressure they were getting against the Bills offensive line. He'd
finished this three game stretch with six or seven sacks.
He finished with seven.

Speaker 4 (01:23:02):
I mean I have in a three gamespan, I felt
this week I haven't do exercise like I normally do.
Feels like I've gained six or seven pounds.

Speaker 5 (01:23:11):
Did I do it right? Pretty good? And that's it? What?

Speaker 4 (01:23:14):
Okay, this is my serious question before we move on.
What is the whatever equivalent to this? When we were
the age of these idiots? I can tell you what
it was for my age group. Okay, yeah, you.

Speaker 6 (01:23:26):
Need to go with somebody or younger than us.

Speaker 5 (01:23:28):
Sixty nine, Well, that's different. It's the exact set. It's
still around. Yeah, this won't be. That's the difference.

Speaker 12 (01:23:38):
For kids when they turned thirty, the way that sixty
nine is still around for eight.

Speaker 6 (01:23:42):
Can we move along from this? And I want to
ask you guys a question. I think the answer is
rhetorical and an obvious, big fat yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:23:48):
We all love six seven?

Speaker 4 (01:23:49):
Yes?

Speaker 6 (01:23:49):
How awesome was it that as the Texans took the
kneel down, everybody ran onto the field, shook hands, did
their jersey swaps, and started ahead to the locker room
to celebrate a huge third straight win in front of
their home fans. That the Texans social media and creative
team brought out a bushel, a bucket, a plateful of
buffalo wings for the players to enjoy on their way

(01:24:11):
off the field. Ooh wings. Yeah, I'll take one. That
was very creative and smart and very well leaved.

Speaker 4 (01:24:17):
I could not include it quickly enough in my video today.

Speaker 6 (01:24:22):
Yeah, good morning video for the Texans. How about that
at noon? I did have to good afternoon.

Speaker 4 (01:24:26):
At first time I've ever slept in or overslept or
just fallen asleep editing. It's not the first time I've
fallen asleep editing. I've just always woken back up before, say,
eight o'clock, which is what happened today. I was like,
do I even finish this thing?

Speaker 5 (01:24:40):
I need to?

Speaker 6 (01:24:41):
So would our age group, as Craig suggests to us,
be a text, be more about the dumb stuff that
came out of the mouths of Beavis and Butt.

Speaker 4 (01:24:48):
Ed they had like in particular, they had six or
seven or eight sacks on Josh last night.

Speaker 6 (01:24:57):
It's pretty cool, yep, until they got number hereeaman listening.
This last name is not Ackerman?

Speaker 5 (01:25:02):
What's his last name? Odyssue? He did there? I haven't
seen my phone yet?

Speaker 4 (01:25:08):
All right, really quick, before we hear from the participants,
the head coach and the player himself, next gen stats,
you a fan, Yes, very much so Texan safety Kaylen Bullock.
By the way, did you hear how al Michaels was
pronouncing it violently last night?

Speaker 5 (01:25:24):
Bullock? It's just Kaylen Bullock.

Speaker 6 (01:25:27):
I heard somebody describe an al Michael's broadcast very well
last night.

Speaker 5 (01:25:34):
Go ahead, because I have a bad feeling that.

Speaker 6 (01:25:36):
He makes the games he's broadcasting far less exciting than
they actually are. Last night's game was full of excitement
and drama and excellence and play making awful. It's just not,
I don't It's just the stage of his broadcasting career.

Speaker 4 (01:25:51):
That's yeah, okay, But since you said that, you know
how I was always like, eh, Keith Jackson does nothing
for me.

Speaker 5 (01:25:57):
I just always I just never really, I didn't get he.

Speaker 6 (01:25:59):
Was at the lake stages of his career, he calling
games old, and it was at the national title game.
He was at the late state later stages. I thought
he was still just as good as he ever was
n very unlike.

Speaker 4 (01:26:10):
Al Vince Young scores is not exactly creative, but at
least he had a pulse when he said it. Al
all right, So, Kaitlin, do you think he was like
in a cot in the booth sleeping while calling the game,
or do you think he was upright last night? I
did see the two of them, not with Peter, make

(01:26:30):
their way out last night. Usually when the when we're
waiting outside the Texans locker room, the broadcast crew is
usually makes their exit. Texans social media found he just
wasn't at this time still with h And it's also
not I really don't think it's the same him doing
a college football game talking about herb Street with Pete
as opposed to an NFL game. It's a lot less

(01:26:50):
Peter is a lot less involved for the Prime games.

Speaker 6 (01:26:54):
Yeah, and there's also no Amazon Prime NFL Game Day
for three hours before.

Speaker 4 (01:26:59):
The game, right right, all right, So next gen stats.
Texan safety Kaylen Block was targeted twice in coverage. He
intercepted both passes while also forcing a fumble, adding thirty
five point seven percent in win probability across his three takeaways.
He has now allowed a thirty eight point five percent

(01:27:21):
completion percentage this season that is the lowest in the
NFL with a minimum of fifteen targets. I know we
do stats off the charts with every sport, but especially
these advanced numbers in baseball, and here in football, I
don't care any way you want to slice it.

Speaker 5 (01:27:40):
That's impressive.

Speaker 6 (01:27:40):
Yeah, I was one of the eight hundred and forty
eight people to like that next Gen stats post.

Speaker 5 (01:27:45):
Well now it's eight hundred and forty nine because I
just liked it.

Speaker 8 (01:27:47):
Nice.

Speaker 6 (01:27:48):
He's been outstanding as an NFL player. There's things that
I'm sure he'd like to get better at and they'd
like to see him get better at. But he's also
doing this this year. Last year's taking a step forward.
I think Bullocks taking a step forward, even though he
didn't have as many eye popping plays the whole season
as he had just last night. And Derek Stingley Junior,
and that's their secondary this year. For the number of

(01:28:09):
games now that Petres missed and hopefully he also returns
for the Colts game, but they played almost an entire
game last night with Jalen Reed and Miles Bryant the
other two members of their secondary. Jalen Reid had one
snap all season before last night. He played all but
eight snaps last night and had the team's best total
of twelve tackles. That's for another segment. This is the

(01:28:30):
Kaitlyn Bullock segment. Demiko Ryans last night after the game
talking about his double interception, one fumble forced safety.

Speaker 9 (01:28:38):
Kaylan Bullock is the guy for me. The way Kaylan
went out, I mean intercepted the ball two times, you know,
forced fumble to get us in a plus territory.

Speaker 13 (01:28:48):
There.

Speaker 9 (01:28:49):
There's a lot of emotion's going on on the sideline
through that entire drive. But for Kaylin to come down
with that interception, that was my favorite play because it
meant it was over.

Speaker 6 (01:28:59):
I think that would be echoed by a lot of people.
The final breath you can now enjoy because you've done
what's necessary to win that game. Bullock was He was
a joy to talk to as usual, a very happy guy.
It is a lassater next to Bullock in the locker room,
and before we got there, Kamari was, you guys are

(01:29:20):
here for him. My guy here is just making sure
we were there to talk to him. Kamari did also
speak with the media, but he knew this was a
big game for Kaitlin to have an opportunity to discuss things,
so he was just everything you had to have to
win that game. And the last play that he made,
he described it a couple of times and I watched

(01:29:42):
it now a couple of times the gripping of the
Buffalo fans would fit in. On this final play, the
player he threw it to Josh Allen threw it to
might have ended up open if the throw was a
little bit better.

Speaker 5 (01:29:55):
But the player he.

Speaker 6 (01:29:56):
Didn't throw it to was absolutely wide open and uncovered,
and it was right in front of him and he
just didn't see it. One reason why it's because he
was backpedaling to avoid the thirteenth quarterback hit of the night,
because two guys were in front of him chasing him,
forcing him to throw off his back foot. I'd complain
less about him missing the open receiver the MVP and

(01:30:19):
more about, hey man, maybe stop trying to block the
Texans with just five bad offensive linemen the entire night.

Speaker 4 (01:30:27):
And, by the way, not work if you're if you're
just you're enjoying what happened at Josh Allen last night,
which I know we all are.

Speaker 5 (01:30:34):
That's kind of what was happening to CJ.

Speaker 4 (01:30:36):
Stroud at times this season, so it's easy to miss
guys that are wide open when that's happening. Just putting
that out there. We will continue with Bullock's reaction next.

Speaker 1 (01:30:47):
The a on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 4 (01:30:58):
Well, it told Julie from Kaylen Bullock, and we didn't deliver.
So why don't we do that? Because he had himself
a ballgame last night and there's no better time than
the present to hear from the man of the hour.
So you mentioned it wex in the postgame speech and
a lot of people have seen this three Well was
it three game balls that were given out? I feel

(01:31:20):
like he gave one to the O line too.

Speaker 6 (01:31:22):
He gave one to Trent Brown, the rep for the
offense for then it was four total, right, Yeah, toss
balls to both Will Anderson Junior and Daniel Hunter and
handed a football to Kaylen Bullock, who did not give
a speech of any kind.

Speaker 4 (01:31:36):
Because, as Demiko put it, he's not a speech guy.
There's no speech coming.

Speaker 6 (01:31:40):
Not necessary. But yeah, he was one of the four
to get them. Davis Mills also got a shout out
and he was standing close by, got a dap in
a hug bro hug from a Demico after the game.

Speaker 5 (01:31:50):
Well deserved, well deserved.

Speaker 6 (01:31:52):
But Bullock, among the many things he had to say
after the game specific to how the game ended. So
the end of the game, being the gay at the
other end of that pass from Josh Allen and his
overall performance. I'll remind you there's a bit of a
chuckle in his answer as he was asked about his
very good performance. The question indicated it was very good,

(01:32:12):
and he answered it thusly.

Speaker 13 (01:32:15):
Yeah, we was this thing just keep fine. Uh you know,
we're not giving up. The game not over and our
d line it was getting to him and made him
make that bad decision at the end through the ball
right Tom. It was a great performance, Thank god. Got
to go out there Thursday night in front of the
whole run and you know, play a game like that.
It can't get no better than that. Just we we
keep stacking each day each week. Uh, you know, we

(01:32:37):
trying to go out there and be the best team
every time we step on the field.

Speaker 5 (01:32:40):
So we guys just keep improving each week.

Speaker 6 (01:32:43):
That's what the laughter was for. Because you had two
interceptions you forced to fumble. Tell us about you know
what kind of performance was that? He chuckled a great
performance about his own.

Speaker 5 (01:32:53):
Game, as he should. It was a great performance.

Speaker 4 (01:32:57):
And it's like, and how many guys on that defense
can say they've had that kind of game in the
last two plus years since Demiko's gotten here, because Jalen
Petries had a game like that. Clearly, Derek Stingley's had
several games like that. Not exactly like that, but multiple
plays where you point to and you're like, that was
a game changer or that was a game breaker, or

(01:33:19):
that was a game wrecker. Boy, it must suck to
play against this defense, you know, whatever you decide to
characterize the situation.

Speaker 6 (01:33:27):
But yeah, five tackles, two picks, two passes, defense, one
forced fumble. That's the fifth player in NFL history under
twenty two years old to do that in a or
excuse me, he's the fifth player to just do two
interceptions at a force fumble in the same game. He
became the second player in franchise history to have two

(01:33:48):
interceptions and a forced fumble in the single game, and
it hadn't happened since year two of the franchise when
Marcus Coleman did it. The stat line I read you
initially the only NFL player who's done that so far
this season.

Speaker 4 (01:34:01):
Longest interception return for a touchdown in franchise history Marcus
Coleman against the Chiefs at Arrowhead one.

Speaker 5 (01:34:07):
Hundred and two yards. I believe maybe five.

Speaker 6 (01:34:09):
I'm not sure why, but just yesterday I watched Justin
Reid's one hundred and one yard interception return for a
touchdown against the Commis. At the time they were Redskins
many years ago. Where did read end up going home
to New Orleans?

Speaker 5 (01:34:25):
Okay? Who went to Kansas City this year?

Speaker 4 (01:34:29):
No? Recently off the secondary for the Texans. They played
him in the postseason. Gosh to safety, I.

Speaker 5 (01:34:37):
Believe No, No, because Murray went to Jackson Mill And
when Murray, that's the only other dal you know who
it is and you're not saying I do not in
this space know who it is. This is going to.

Speaker 4 (01:34:48):
Bother me until I find it. But I hope that
doesn't happen again. Hope what doesn't happen again? A player
that's like these guys that we're talking about, I mean,
Stingley's been recent, but I just hope it doesn't.

Speaker 6 (01:35:01):
Players are going to leave, like Justin r left to
play football elsewhere. Is that was that so bad?

Speaker 5 (01:35:06):
Yes? No, yes it was.

Speaker 6 (01:35:08):
He was good for the he was good for the Chiefs.
You know he's been good here. But first player was
a reasonable decision the first player.

Speaker 4 (01:35:14):
I remember leaving like that where you were like, oh man,
it was Dante Robinson.

Speaker 6 (01:35:20):
And you know the problem wasn't his departure. The problem
was their complete and total disregard for his replacement. I
didn't mind him leaving at all. And he did not
go on to play great football elsewhere. He was okay,
he was much better he went. That's who I'm thinking of.

Speaker 5 (01:35:38):
That's what I just said. I said he went to
the Chiefs for five years. He went to Orleans.

Speaker 4 (01:35:42):
I thought you said he went home to New Orleans.
He did go home the part where you said he
went to five years for the chief.

Speaker 6 (01:35:47):
He went to the Chiefs first, won a couple of titles,
and that's his contract that he signed to leave the
Texans expired with the Chiefs, and so he's badly.

Speaker 4 (01:35:54):
I was trying to think of, Okay, were you thinking
of Matthew No, although I remember that too. Yeah, I
was all right when he left. It was okay, But uh,
Dante Robinson. And who was the guy who was the
safety that went to Detroit That was really good gloverqu
Glover Quinn.

Speaker 6 (01:36:10):
He got really good right after he left. He was
a good player here. He was an excellent player there, like,
and he's already he's in Houston now.

Speaker 5 (01:36:17):
He's a good dude.

Speaker 4 (01:36:18):
He hurt too watching him leave because he was a
good I liked talking to him in the locker room
and I loved watching him play.

Speaker 5 (01:36:24):
I still will never forget the past. But the pat
down Jacksonville game, yeah, that wasn't fun.

Speaker 12 (01:36:29):
That's still to me is the memory of Glover Quinn
in the Houston Texans uniform.

Speaker 5 (01:36:32):
And there's so many other good plays.

Speaker 4 (01:36:34):
Well, that was a season though, where they were finding
ways to lose games. I Gus Johnson was on the call.
Everything about that sucked because it was everything that you
loved normally was going against you, including the play by
play guy.

Speaker 6 (01:36:48):
Yeah, back to something you said earlier this segment, how
many guys can say that they had a game like
that or a play like that? And then you just
rattled off five guys who can say they had a
play like that. That's why this Texans defense is what
they are. It's why they are the best in the NFL.
Yesterday's game cemented it. Pick a name and how far
down the list can you get to before you're actually
struggling with Well, maybe that we're going a little far here,

(01:37:08):
but clearly up front, you have two of the best
edge rushers in the NFL and they're book ending your line.
You got the best corner in the NFL that's healthy
and Derek Stingley Junior. I think we're still sleeping a
little bit on how incredible a season Kamari Laster is having,
and he's doing it both in coverage and in run support.
Their fourth down stop they only had one before the

(01:37:29):
last play of the game on the four that the
Bills attempted when Josh Allen went to the sideline and said,
what are we doing? We what you're doing is running
James Cook on fourth and one and having him lose two.
Sheldon Rankins beat his man and that's where the tackle was.
But they did bring Kamari Lassen on a blitz and
he was right there to make sure that that's where
it ended. He might have even been in there to

(01:37:50):
make the play himself had Rankins not gotten there first.
He's been awesome. Okay, that's four players we just rattled off.
We obviously have to add Block to that list, and
I think we have to add al Shaire because I'm
sure we haven't really had a chance to see it
this year because he's been on the field for everything.
Their defense was awesome last year. Their defense was incredible

(01:38:13):
when he was on the field with them. Last year
a marked difference in what this defense did when he
was sidelined because of suspension or injury and what they
did when he was on the field. And this year
we haven't seen the off the field portion because al
Shaer has missed very few snaps, let alone no games,
and their defense has benefited greatly because of it. He

(01:38:33):
nearly had the first pick of the game. He said
he was pissed afterwards that he didn't get it because
it was the second year in row that Josh Allen
threw a pass through his hands. I think it's quite
all right that he merely got a pass breakup and
Kailin was able to snatch it and score. Only I
have it called back correctly on the penalty on Barnett.

Speaker 5 (01:38:52):
I am deep in timeline.

Speaker 4 (01:38:57):
Hell off that Gavin McHugh tweet that shows the screen
cap of CJ because the responses are just you get
the Texan super fans that are obviously taking the bait handover.

Speaker 5 (01:39:11):
I mean just it's bad.

Speaker 6 (01:39:12):
Handing out game balls, giving the speech. Cameras behind Demiko o'rians,
the entire team and some team personnel are in front
of him all the way around from his left to
his right to his immediate right. Because his position in
the locker room, he's not quite the halfway point, but
the few handful of lockers that would be at his back,
none of those players are at their lockers.

Speaker 5 (01:39:30):
They're all standing in the middle of the room in
front of him.

Speaker 6 (01:39:32):
He's actually at the point in the locker room where
CJ's locker is almost immediately to his right, so he's
not in the middle of his teammates, probably by design,
considering his condition or situation, I should say so, he
is a little bit off to the side. As a
somewhat wild celebration of victory is going to take place,

(01:39:54):
I don't want him anywhere near it, and I don't
think he wants to be anywhere near it. So as
the camera pans back and forth in this I shot
that this has been captured of this moment. Yes, he's
standing off to the side with the look on his
screen capped frozen face. That doesn't suggest total unbridled enthusiasm.

Speaker 4 (01:40:11):
Well, It's like you could take any picture of anybody
at any event that's supposed to be exciting in the
history of time, and they you could find that exact
second where they didn't look like they were having the
best time based on their expression and post it.

Speaker 6 (01:40:25):
You undoubtedly have either videos or pictures of you on
your phone at work in the locker room or clubhouse
covering one of our teams because you're off to the
side and the video that was captured has you in it.

Speaker 4 (01:40:37):
There's a famous one of me and Andre Johnson and
after he beat the f out of in Again.

Speaker 6 (01:40:42):
If if this's a video, I'm sure I could snap
a moment off of it and there you are looking.
I don't want to be here because you're actually trying
to see if somebody else is talking or how long
I think four minutes with this person is at ninety.

Speaker 4 (01:40:54):
It just had his third question in a row. He asked,
stop talking, or you are more than welcome to take
your elbow out of my side visits that or do
any of you ever bathe before you come in here.

Speaker 5 (01:41:07):
I'm not gonna name names.

Speaker 6 (01:41:09):
I would hope that's not someone who's still visiting locker
rooms and clubhouses is an old video we must be
talking about.

Speaker 5 (01:41:16):
It's four thirty. Just about four thirty.

Speaker 6 (01:41:18):
We have our signature segment on Fridays, it's Stone Cold
Locks the eight.

Speaker 1 (01:41:24):
On Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 6 (01:41:29):
Very very busy day in Major League Baseball, which we
have not gotten into. Earlier in the week, we noted
a couple of the moves that the Astros had made.
The dfaed Ramona Reus. They obviously pulled off the trade
with one arbitration eligible infielder utility player for another, the
Nick Allen trade.

Speaker 5 (01:41:48):
Nick Allen is here.

Speaker 6 (01:41:49):
He's arbitration eligible, and he is one of the eleven
players the Astros tendered contracts too that were arbitration eligible.
They actually had thirteen arbitration eligible players. Two of the
thirteen have already signed one year contracts. Annuel de los Santos,
who pitched very well for them after they acquired him
in season last year. He's got a one year deal

(01:42:09):
for twenty twenty six. Taylor Tremmel, who did a pretty
nice job as a reserve also when he was healthy
last year, he signed a one year split contract for
next season. The other eleven arbitration eligible players were tendered contracts,
so technically they are under contract with the Astros at
an undetermined figure for the upcoming season. It includes some

(01:42:31):
of what would be considered very key pieces to a
winning team in twenty twenty six. Brian Obreu, Hunter Brown,
Jeremy Pania, Esach Peretis include some other names. It'll have
varying degrees of assistance to the Astros winning causes. Jake Myers,
who has a four to forty eight PM this afternoon
on the Friday, you wondered if he would still be

(01:42:52):
an Astro for He's still an Astro. Steven Okert still time,
Jesus Sanchez, Hayden Wiznski, who obviously will end the year hurt,
same for Bennett's SUSA, and the aforementioned Nick Allen. Those
are there eleven players. I think there's a lot to
be hopeful about most of them. I don't know that
they felt like it was okay to non tender heyes,

(01:43:14):
Sue Sanchez, and that he's been a pretty good player
everywhere else and they traded for him, so non tendering
him would look awful. But I don't really think they
want to pay him what his figure is going to
be because We just had an entire, at least two
segments worth of discussion about what the Astros outfield could

(01:43:35):
look like next year, cam Smith and right, some sort
of time share with Jose Altuve and Jordan Alvarezen, Left,
Zach Cole, Jake Myers, Jacob Melton, some combination of such
in center field, and not one time did we say
the name, Hey, Sue Sanchez. I don't think he should
play a single inning next year for the Astros at

(01:43:57):
any position.

Speaker 4 (01:43:59):
None of the guys they've brought in really did any
much of anything to make you think otherwise.

Speaker 6 (01:44:06):
I mean, none of the guys they traded for at
the deadline besides Carlos.

Speaker 4 (01:44:12):
Well, okay, I guess I forgot about him because he's
now a Houston Astro, so I just assume he never left.

Speaker 6 (01:44:18):
And I just look at it like they got three guys.
Arius did exactly what you hoped he would do. He
just didn't get a lot of playing time because they
just gave it to other people.

Speaker 5 (01:44:25):
But he was perfect.

Speaker 6 (01:44:25):
He was extremely well suited for what they hoped he
would be. Carlos obviously did his thing, and then there
was Sanchies.

Speaker 4 (01:44:32):
I'm not even kidding why I say that, by the way,
about Carlos, It's just I'm so.

Speaker 5 (01:44:35):
Used to it, you know, I totally get it. I forgot.

Speaker 4 (01:44:38):
Oh yeah, they traded for Carlos, and I think part
of that's because I know that he wasn't a rental
like he's here now.

Speaker 5 (01:44:45):
He never should have left.

Speaker 4 (01:44:47):
But I can't really argue with the results since the
guy that you know filled in for him got a
ring and the MVP of that World Series.

Speaker 6 (01:44:54):
The thirteen players that were arbitration eligible have all been retained.
Not every team in the majors is doing that with
their arbitration or their yeah, their arbitration eligible players. Tell
me a few they had to choose whether or not
to tender contracts too.

Speaker 8 (01:45:10):
Well.

Speaker 6 (01:45:10):
One such team, the only other team that calls the
state of Texas home, decided that non tendering was the
way to go today. They had five decisions to make
on players that pretty much everybody knows and had made
various degrees of contributions to them over the last couple
of years. Non tendered Jacob Webb, non tender Josh Bores,
another member of their twenty twenty three pitching staff. Non

(01:45:32):
tendered catcher Jonah him did not have a great year
last year, but has been a plus level starting catcher
for a number of years prior to last year. Agreed
to a contract with Sam Haggerty, very speedy, good defensive outfielder,
and they did not tender a contract to Adulas Garcia.

Speaker 5 (01:45:51):
I have yes become a free agent.

Speaker 4 (01:45:53):
In my life, been more sure that he was doing
something in twenty twenty three.

Speaker 6 (01:45:57):
Getting homers, I mean, throwing people out from right field
with that rocket launcher of an arm.

Speaker 4 (01:46:04):
Stomping down the first base line, getting in the face
of Maldy, all that hit by pitches, Yeah, all of
the things. Mixing it up with instead of Brian Abray,
you who would absolutely squash him like the bug he is.
Let me turn around and get into it with Maldy.
What an absolute jerk.

Speaker 6 (01:46:21):
Back to back OPS seasons of under seven hundred following
twenty twenty three back to back OPS plus seasons of
slightly under one hundred one hundred is average. His one
well above average season took place in twenty twenty three.
He hit nineteen home runs last year, down from the
thirty nine. He hit in a few more at bats

(01:46:43):
in twenty twenty three he's he's a youngster, dude, all right,
Dolas Garcia will only be thirty three.

Speaker 5 (01:46:50):
Yeah, next year.

Speaker 4 (01:46:51):
I can't wait until the press conference where the next
team introduces him and says we wanted to infuse this
roster with youth, so we went and got a dulls Garcia.

Speaker 6 (01:47:00):
Are you saying he's probably not gonna be pursued by Houston?

Speaker 4 (01:47:05):
Why would you pursue him because he's asking your opinion
the time? One year ALCS MVP. I mean, is he
bringing his pharmaceutical company with him?

Speaker 6 (01:47:16):
Allegedly you could field without taking anything. He's a gold glover.
I'm good, you're good for as it pertains to him. Yeah,
he will have a home as a starting right fielder
in the majors on opening day next year.

Speaker 4 (01:47:29):
I believe he's gonna be an awesome Marlin some some
crap team that wants to I wouldn't even say put
butts in the seats, adult, scar See. It hasn't put
butt in the seats. He's not been good. It's simple
as that. I let it have been awful. It's not
just that he hasn't been good. He's been awful. That's
why when he would hit a home run against the Astros.
One of his nineteen is like, really, we're doing this again?

(01:47:53):
Or how about when he got that double to seemingly
I guess he thought win the game and he's like
pumping and like on his chest at second base chess.

Speaker 5 (01:48:04):
Then he lost that game.

Speaker 6 (01:48:07):
He's I mean, there's a lot of lists we have
for you and hate. He's all first team MLB hate, Adola, Scarcia,
his head. He's on your squad. They have hats that
fit it. Just go down to the equipment room.

Speaker 4 (01:48:20):
Go down to the Barry Bonds wing of the equipment
room for his roided up dome.

Speaker 6 (01:48:25):
There will be other players as we hear over the
course of the rest of the day. Today was the
deadline to do so players that will be useful to
other teams with the decision for whatever reasons for these
ball clubs will have these players a new influx the
free agent and this probably is kind of the last
deadline into the off season where you really have a
full picture as a GM of what's truly available on

(01:48:46):
the market and what then you need to look at
in the trade market.

Speaker 4 (01:48:49):
You know, what's funny to me is that if you
were to find out that he was doing something illegally
in twenty twenty three hitting all those home runs in
the ALCS against the Astros, that there isn't a single
baseball fan that would have had a problem with it,
that the Astros were cheated out of definitely another ring
because of his performance. Yet those same people would definitely

(01:49:10):
have a problem with the sign stealing scandal because that's illegal.
They're both illegal, by the way, they're both cheating, but
only one is wrong in the eyes of the you know,
noble and last bastion of morality major League Baseball fans.
It's hilarious to me how people pick and choose what
they want to be upset about.

Speaker 5 (01:49:29):
Yeah, orangeteam bad. I've heard that before. I like Orange teams.

Speaker 4 (01:49:33):
I just I'm so glad that this happened to this guy,
non tendered basically two years after being the MVP of
his team.

Speaker 5 (01:49:42):
Would you mind getting out of here?

Speaker 4 (01:49:43):
Beat it, We're not paying you and take your huge
oversized hat with you and all of your syringes with it.

Speaker 5 (01:49:48):
Football at five is next.

Speaker 1 (01:49:52):
The eighteen On Sports Talk seven ninety, Adam Clinton and
Adam Wexley are the eighteen.

Speaker 4 (01:50:12):
Well that music is typically reserved for football at five.

Speaker 5 (01:50:17):
I wonder what we'll talk about.

Speaker 4 (01:50:20):
Twenty three to nineteen Texans over the Bills last night.
You know what's awesome about Thursday night games is when
you get to Sunday and you can just cruise Red
Zone channel all day long.

Speaker 6 (01:50:35):
Games on Sunday. Of note, Ravens hosting Jets. Ravens are
five and five. Patriots at Bengals. They've not ruled out
Joe Burrow yet. He also is not on the active roster.
They'll haven't till tomorrow afternoon.

Speaker 5 (01:50:49):
A weird subtot debate him.

Speaker 6 (01:50:50):
It seems like they're leaning towards waiting a week, but
we will see. That obviously is impactful. The Bengals hosting
the top of the AFC Patriots. That's another noon game.
Colts and Chiefs noon game from Kansas City. Colts are
eight and two, just two more wins than your Houston Texans.
Jaguars are at the Cardinals in a three to zero

(01:51:11):
five game, and Jaggs l would have the Texans no
worse than entering next week as a playoff team. They
would be inside the top seven. Jaguars would have the
same record as them, potentially the Chiefs would two.

Speaker 4 (01:51:28):
I can't tell what's gonna happen in that game. I mean,
the Jags really suck. I think that is accurate, but
so do the Cardinals. The Cardinals have three wins. I
just and yet I could see the Cardinals blowing them out.

Speaker 6 (01:51:41):
Yeah, the line on that game is recognizing their respective records,
but also recognizing the quality of the two teams. The
Arizona Cardinals have kind of up until last week, they'd
really found a few ways to not come out on top.

Speaker 5 (01:51:54):
They're the team that gave away the game the only
win that.

Speaker 6 (01:51:56):
The Titans have, and the Jaguars just have not been
in pro enough over the course this season. Clearly, a
thirty five to six beat down of the Chargers is
very impressive, and they do have a win over Houston.
They do have six wins on the season. They did
beat Kansas City late by just stout playing him at
the end of the game and having a nice offensive drive, yes,
led by and finished by Trevor Lawrence. But that's what's

(01:52:18):
on tap for the weekend, with the Texans already getting
that six to win and putting themselves in clearly significantly
better position for the postseason. As you know, the Texans
have two on the road, then two at home, and
then they split the final two games. They're on the
road this coming game, which is not until November thirtie,
if at the Colts. Following Sunday, they are at the

(01:52:39):
Chiefs Sunday night. They're two home games back to back.
Are the games against the Cardinals and Raiders. Those two
teams likely battling for how high in the draft can
we get? On the road for the Chargers follows pretty
much a given that game will be very meaningful, probably
for both teams, but I'm thinking for sure for the Chargers,
and then they finish with the Colts. Colts are one

(01:53:01):
of three teams in the AFC that still have just
two losses. They have eight wins. The Broncos and Patriots
have nine, so neither of them have had their off
week yet. The Patriots is still two more weeks away.
The Broncos is this week. How is that possible?

Speaker 5 (01:53:15):
They had a week fourteen off.

Speaker 4 (01:53:18):
Week and then just go to the postseason after.

Speaker 6 (01:53:20):
They could be as they could be eleven and two
when they get there, and they should be mentioned they
have the Bengals this week, next week they might get
Jackson Dart, but either way they're playing the Giants in
New England. I would think the best team in the
AFC would be able to handle that. As you close
down the season, but the Texans are at six wins,
Chargers and Bills are at seven, Steelers are at six,

(01:53:41):
Chiefs and Ravens are at five. Obviously, one of those
two teams among the Steelers and Ravens will qualify for
the postseason regardless as the division champion, and the Texans
have already beaten the Ravens Chargers. They're off this week,
have the Raiders, Eagles, Chiefs, Cowboys, Texans, Broncos. Eagles Broncos
are definitely playoff teams. Chiefs are fighting for the playoffs

(01:54:05):
along with the Texans. I would call this not a
very easy closing six. The Bills, after losing to the Texans,
have now lost two of their last three. When they
get back on the field at the end of the month,
they will be at Pittsburgh, who's in the race. They
will probably face Joe Burrows Bengals. They go to the
New England Patriots still and they still have the Eagles remaining.

(01:54:26):
Also play the Browns and Jets. They have two easy
games and that's it in their final six. There are
a lot of avenues for the Texans to get the
help they need. First things first, they still have teams
that are fighting for the playoffs. They don't win in
Kansas City. The Colts are an eight win team with
a very good running game. They have to win some

(01:54:48):
of these games still in order to get themselves into
the postseason at six and five having one six of eight,
presuming they're going to beat the Cardinals and Raiders at home.
That's a fine presumption and still has to happen, and
they'll be trying to figure out do we have something
going offensively. We go back into this discussion when CJ.

(01:55:09):
Stroud went down against the Broncos. I did think things
were starting to turn the corner and he got hurt.
He's been out for the rest of that game and
the three games that have followed, they've been very much
up and down offensively. Have to give him at least
a thumbs up. When they scored three touchdowns on offense
in the fourth quarter and the miracle comeback against Jacksonville.
I don't think there's too much up when you only

(01:55:29):
score sixteen points against the Titans and then follow it
up with what you did yesterday. He did score a
bunch of times, five times, but three of those for
field goals. You had your red zone issues early, less
of a red zone issue late. That did score twice
went down in the red zone on touchdown passes Christian
Kirks first of the season and Jayden Higgins with his
third of the season. They did some things that suggest

(01:55:51):
maybe they're onto something. And we've got an entire week's
worth of shows to consider what exactly do they have
on the offensive line, So we'll get to that at
a much larger length next week. But it was a
new iteration of the offensive line yesterday, with Howard playing
the opposite guard position along with ed Ingram opposite to
where he had been moved inside earlier. JK Andrews still

(01:56:13):
at center, and Trent Brown was your starting right tackle
opposite tay Ersery. You brought something up about Will Anderson
and a couple weeks ago, the players talked a lot
about Demiko Ryans showing them a movie a movie, a
video of a boxing match from a handful of years ago.

(01:56:33):
Guy basically separated his shoulder, continued to fight ended up
knocking the guy out in this little message Saturday night
before their Sunday game, which ultimately they won, And we
asked Demiko about that, do you already know what you're
planning this week? How do you come up with that stuff?
And he didn't get too far into detail besides saying, well, A,
I don't know yet. I kind of see how the
week goes and what makes the most sense. B I'm

(01:56:53):
not telling you guys. Will Anderson seemed to indicate a
little bit of what would be on tap for them
after what they were shown earlier in the week. But
first from Will Anderson, this team was owing three. They've
won six of eight, they're now six and five. Talking
a little bit about the pride they have and the
fight that they've shown going from oh and three to

(01:57:14):
where they now stand.

Speaker 8 (01:57:15):
Yeah, it's the culture that coach Tomko has said here.
You know, we always talk about when things go bad
what we lean on. Now, I think we lean on
our score mentality. And that's what I love about this
group is just because everybody perseveres, everybody's persistent, everybody's still
chasing the goal. That's the playoffs, that's a super Bowl.
We're not losing sight of that. And so that's what
type of team we have. We just have a resilient team,
and it just keeps showing up weekend and week out.

Speaker 6 (01:57:35):
Five one score losses to open the season among their
losses now three consecutive one score victory.

Speaker 4 (01:57:42):
So that's why what dan Orolotski said back in the
two o'clock hour, and we played it, and I wouldn't
even mind playing it again.

Speaker 5 (01:57:48):
Because it encapsulates what you just said.

Speaker 4 (01:57:51):
The way they lost to those games, especially the Rams
game and the Bucks game to start the season. I
remember Miko coming in to the podium like we're close,
and nobody wanted to hear that, and I don't blame them.
I didn't want to hear it.

Speaker 6 (01:58:07):
He was describing the style of football he loves to see.
We're close, man, Well, they don't all have to be
close games.

Speaker 4 (01:58:16):
No single digit one score games that we're losing. That's
not fun.

Speaker 12 (01:58:20):
No.

Speaker 6 (01:58:21):
What he was saying all that time, we need to finish.
And I poked fun at some of that when I
didn't think there's not finishing anything when you're not winning.

Speaker 5 (01:58:28):
What have they done these last three weeks? Right?

Speaker 6 (01:58:30):
Yesterday was probably the best example of it all. They
were awesome yesterday in so many ways, but if they
don't finish, they lose.

Speaker 4 (01:58:38):
And they had to finish after they gave up that
gadget play. I mean that was why when he says
things like that and then you see them do the
hook and ladder, I mean I was like, do not
get boised here.

Speaker 6 (01:58:49):
So maybe in another segment I'll ask you and our
listeners what they really think it's supposed to be called,
because I actually had that discussion yesterday waiting for the elevator.

Speaker 5 (01:58:57):
Is it a hook and ladder or a hook conlateral?

Speaker 6 (01:59:01):
Not for now, because I want to hear Will Anderson
to tell you what yesterday's game was all about. What
was the motivation for what they were trying to do.
You're facing Josh Allen. He extends plays, he's big, he's
tough to bring down. You've had some success against him.
You've got the Sowar mentality. All that thing ties into
what how do you get motivated? What does Demiko want
these guys to think about as they're getting into this

(01:59:22):
game yesterday?

Speaker 5 (01:59:23):
Well, here's what you got.

Speaker 8 (01:59:25):
He coach put up a picture of like some wolves
in a Buffalo, and like we just had that energy
all week long, Like, man, we gotta go wunt, Like
it gotta be relentless, Like no matter what you got
going on, no matter how you feeling broth, it's no
we links out there on the field, Like if you
want a piece of the.

Speaker 2 (01:59:39):
Gazelle, you gotta go up with the gazelle.

Speaker 8 (01:59:41):
So like, it's just funny, man, seeing everybody scratches crap,
what the gazelle? Man, But it's fun. It was awesome.

Speaker 4 (01:59:48):
You know, I knew this going in. I've seen him
in person. It's weird. I've been to two games as
a fan in recent memory, and I think they were
both against Buffalo.

Speaker 5 (02:00:02):
Two dubs.

Speaker 4 (02:00:03):
Well, Josh Allen is not a small human being by
any stretch of the imagination. He is one of the
bigger quarterbacks in the league, and yet against that defense,
Gazelle is probably the perfect description deer in headlights, gazelle,
baby fawn, a helpless puppy.

Speaker 5 (02:00:25):
He was being hunted all night.

Speaker 6 (02:00:28):
There were plays where they did a such a good
job up front. They were in on him quickly. Most
of the sacks and many of the quarterback hits were
not of that kind. They were he didn't have anybody
to throw to, and it wasn't because they kept too
many guys into block. The Texans did blitz on occasion,
but not that often. They rushed their four guys and

(02:00:48):
they won. They rushed their four guys. They were winning
one on twos constantly, but with the coverage as it was.
Sticky is the word they like to use, and it
very much was. If they weren't throwing something quick underneath
he was having. He thought, well, I don't have anybody
to throw to, so I'm gonna buy time and I'm
gonna scramble and he kept getting caught. That's what this
theme one of the many things that sets him apart.

(02:01:11):
Daniel Hunter catches quarterbacks. Will Anderson catches quarterbacks. They don't
get run away from nearly as often, even the elite ones.

Speaker 4 (02:01:20):
It's crazy to see their closing speed in person because
what you're talking. How many times did JJ Watt almost
get to some and he's one of the all time
great Tony Romo in Arlington, That's how the game ended
because he couldn't get to him, and time they get
there and it's like violent every time.

Speaker 5 (02:01:39):
Very much so. Will Anderson wolves on the hunt.

Speaker 1 (02:01:45):
The a on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 4 (02:01:55):
Plugging at a graphic the NBA's Instagram ground account put
out about this game tonight between the Rockets and the Nuggets,
two top offenses in the NBA, and it just had,
you know, obviously points, assists, rebound, field goal, all that
kind of stuff.

Speaker 5 (02:02:13):
They are so evenly matched.

Speaker 4 (02:02:15):
And far be it from me to make a gambling
reference right now about the NBA in light of some
of the recent news. Yeah, I'm just saying, like, the
spread's got to be like what I'm just saying, Well,
I have to carry on the the.

Speaker 6 (02:02:31):
If both teams hit their mark, it would be in
the forties neighborhood of They are number one and number
two in the offensive raiding and they also share an
almost identical defensive rating and net rating. As you said,
they are very evenly men. They have one has a
joker and one has a baby joker.

Speaker 5 (02:02:50):
That's not the case, not on this show. That's right.

Speaker 4 (02:02:53):
We put that to bed no longer. He's the Wizard Bingo.
It just doesn't I don't know, I don't know.

Speaker 6 (02:03:01):
If it's caught on well, watch him play and imagine yourself,
you know, calling the game like you will. At one
point this year, I happen to have tonight's Denver game. Yeah,
thanks A lot later in the they play again, I can.
I can imagine it myself as I think about this
out loud. I'm not gonna be watching Alper and Shoon
against Joker or anybody else that might be defending him.

(02:03:23):
Aaron Gordon's he's facing up Aaron Gordon at no point
I think he's dribbling. He's backing him in and baby
Joker with a hook shot.

Speaker 5 (02:03:31):
That's the fowl. That's true. Nobody calls him that he's
backing down Aaron Gordon.

Speaker 7 (02:03:36):
Oh there's a man Thompson in the dunker spot and
the Wizard throws it up to him and he throws
it down.

Speaker 5 (02:03:41):
Much easier, thanks, much more sense.

Speaker 4 (02:03:43):
I think it's gonna take Matt and or Craig pushing
that well.

Speaker 6 (02:03:48):
When I sit next to Matt this evening with somebody
in between us, and he says, Alprin Shingoon, he goes up,
he gets the bucket, Alprin shing Gun grabs the offensive rebound,
fine Steven Adams the behind the back pass and he
throws it down on the rockets. Forced the Nuggets to
call a time out pause Entercolor analyst. I can't tell
you how many times the Wizard has made plays like

(02:04:10):
that this year. You've been on every game. This is
just unbelievable stuff. Nobody in the league has vision like
the Wizard, Like that's it's made for this.

Speaker 5 (02:04:18):
I'm glad you brought this up, this aspect. Maybe I
brought it up. I can't remember now.

Speaker 4 (02:04:23):
I got a tweet from somebody Blaze that said, Hey,
Adam Blaze, I had an idea for a.

Speaker 6 (02:04:29):
What cobra the purple cobra which b l A I
s E is white Goodman is leader.

Speaker 4 (02:04:35):
I don't know Blazer Blazer, Blazer Blazers, so he's he
wrote any rights. Uh, Hey, Adam, I had an idea
for a reed Shepherd nickname dun Deede. Read what you think?
And I said, and this is what I answered. I
was like, look, it's not bad at all. It's not good.

(02:05:00):
I didn't say that part. I say it's not bad
at all. I don't know if it'll catch on. Might
need help from sports MT Craig Ackerman and the Ryan
Hollins to make that happen.

Speaker 5 (02:05:09):
And I tagged him you.

Speaker 4 (02:05:10):
Know, in case they wanted to bust out Dundee Read tonight. See,
Craig could probably pull that off. It just I don't
like it very much. Why because he's doing the deed.

Speaker 6 (02:05:22):
Yeah, I was gonna say, I don't know how his
longtime girlfriend feels about that as a basketball nickname.

Speaker 5 (02:05:29):
Just just gonna nod.

Speaker 6 (02:05:31):
I mean, I don't know. Dundee Read doesn't sound like
that guy just made a three.

Speaker 4 (02:05:36):
What are you supposed to call him for a nickname? Then,
since we're talking about nicknames for the Rockets and we've
already established that Alpi Hey s Alp is the Wizard.

Speaker 5 (02:05:45):
Well, let's hit the whole roster while while we're at it.

Speaker 4 (02:05:49):
Well, a men Thompson's twin, Okay, he's twin for multiple
ones for for KD Slim Reaper, easy Money Sniper. Why
does why does Katie idiot? Why does he have so
many nicknames? Because he's awesome?

Speaker 6 (02:06:00):
Because he's awesome, that's the right answer. He's been in
the league a long time and he's really awesome.

Speaker 5 (02:06:05):
Yeah, but there's other guys that are awesome that only
have like one nickname.

Speaker 6 (02:06:08):
The Rockets have an eight man rotation twelve or thirteen
guys a long time NBA players, Aaron Holliday, what's his nickname?
Drew's brother, Jeff Green what what's his nickname? He actually
does now? Jeff one uncle Jeff? Okay, Jay, Shaun, Tate,
Tarry easton.

Speaker 5 (02:06:25):
Rotation minutes because Tari's out right now.

Speaker 6 (02:06:27):
But this is not a team full of nicknames. I
don't have to force Reid's nickname on him. In year two,
a man and Tari are the Terror twins, So we
have twins and terror twins right on one team.

Speaker 4 (02:06:39):
He can't help it that he's a double twin of
the terror player, human variety.

Speaker 5 (02:06:44):
Twin, and two of his nicknames.

Speaker 4 (02:06:45):
Okay, Like, seriously, if you were going to give Reed
Shepherd a nickname just based on right now, where he's at,
not where he might be going, any of that, Like
he's I would say something like the baby faced Assassin.
I'm glad you said that, because he it's the threes,
he's a sniper. But he's such a babyface, so I
haven't brought it up yet. You've made your own comps

(02:07:08):
many times over. Who does Reed Shepherd? You've said that
right here on Wardell's basketball reference page. The second nickname
listed is Babyface Assassin. I'm not telling anybody at any
point in my life or theirs, that Reed Shepherd is
on his way to the Hall of Fame and his

(02:07:29):
hand will be full of NBA Championship rings. But he
should play basketball like Steph Curry. He does a lot
of the things that Steph Curry does. He doesn't do
the things.

Speaker 6 (02:07:42):
That Steph Curry does, and will never do some of
those things either, because he's never gonna be at that level.
But if you just watch some of the things already,
it is how he plays. It is how he's learning.
Where do I get these shots? How do I finish
inside the three point line? Just that aspect of his game.
Compare last year to this year. We're twelve games in
or thirteen games in. Now, look at how much better

(02:08:04):
he is at finishing at the rim, finishing in the
middle area of everywhere on the court, now, middle of
the lane, middle of the key, middle of the court,
seventeen to eighteen feets, all these mid range spots, or
just simply in the paint.

Speaker 5 (02:08:17):
He's not making all of them, but he's.

Speaker 6 (02:08:19):
Also unafraid that, well, I better not shoot it because
I'm short and they're tall and it's gonna get blocked.
I mean, Tony Parker made a living in the lane
that Steph Curry's made a living in the lane.

Speaker 5 (02:08:29):
Back this up.

Speaker 6 (02:08:30):
Steph Curry's bombed away against the Rockets and countless playoff
games and he's killed them, driving to the basket and
finishing non stop. It has to be part of your
game if you're going to elevate it to a certain.

Speaker 5 (02:08:41):
Level, especially with the pick and roll.

Speaker 6 (02:08:42):
How about defensively, Steph Curry's not an elite defender. Reach
Shepperd's not going to be an elite defender, but I
think he's an elite steeler. Reach Shepherd can produce turnovers
at a very good rate. Steph Curry led the NBA
in steels in one of his seasons. He averages one
point five steals per game for his career, has never

(02:09:04):
had less than He's got a couple of years below one.

Speaker 5 (02:09:07):
He's been excellent. I'm sure I don't know where it is.

Speaker 6 (02:09:09):
I'm sure he's near the top of the active list
in steals, not just because he's been here forever, but
I mean he kind of recognizes what I can't, what
I'm not good at you. So I'm gonna play for
this knowing that he had Draymond Green and Andrew Bogan,
whatever other players andre Iguodala who could compensate for it.
There's no better defensive compensation team. If you have one

(02:09:32):
guy out there can't do this, that and the other,
no problem on this team.

Speaker 4 (02:09:36):
Do you ever read these numbers in front of you
right now? No, but there, it'll take you like two
seconds to have His shooting numbers are spectacular. No, I'm
talking about his steals for such like.

Speaker 5 (02:09:47):
I know it's a small sample.

Speaker 6 (02:09:48):
His per thirty six would probably be a little bit better.
But last year has he played so few meaningful minutes
it's hard to say.

Speaker 4 (02:09:55):
And yet when he's out there, I feel like he
always gets one. He does that's elite.

Speaker 6 (02:10:00):
Yeah, his his numbers just this year on steels or
they're Steph Curry like off the charts at one and
a half per game.

Speaker 5 (02:10:05):
Steve said, not that many minutes.

Speaker 4 (02:10:06):
I don't think. I don't think of Steph as a
big theft er, but he is. Really Yeah, he's a thief.
He is a thief. Well, I might have to uh
scale back my criticism of his defense a little bit then,
because steels are part of defense.

Speaker 6 (02:10:22):
Steels are part of this not a good defender though, Hey,
we're playing the Warriors. Let's go to the whiteboard, Coach,
what do you think we should do? Where should we attack? Well,
let's attack number thirty. Hey, the Rockets have the bench,
and where do you think we should I mean, it's
the same principle at different stages their respective careers, quite obviously,
but I just can't help myself.

Speaker 5 (02:10:41):
That is that is what I see.

Speaker 6 (02:10:44):
Led the NBA in total steals twice, ninth on the
active list, and steals per game seventh on the active list,
and steals overall. That's Steph Curry, well behind both three
Rockets regulars Chris Paul, Russell west Brook and the Beard
and Lebron Mike Conley. And that's it. He's actually sixth.

(02:11:05):
Sorry that, yes, you're not really in the league.

Speaker 4 (02:11:07):
Saddious, But tonight, when you have two offenses that are
this prolific, but you also have the they're not Just
like the Rockets are an elite defensive team I think still,
even though it's probably not quite as elite.

Speaker 5 (02:11:26):
As last year.

Speaker 4 (02:11:27):
I think it's just a different version of what they
do and honestly, part of it's their offense just being
so prolific this year. I guess I don't think of
Denver in that same way, even though they are a
good defensive club.

Speaker 6 (02:11:44):
I don't know why it's about getting stops. Probably can
you get a stop when you have to have one?
Are you getting stops later in the game to give
you an opportunity to go ahead and put a game
away or keep it from extending and extending and extending.
And I think the Rockets are already getting better from
Game one to now. Tonight it'll be Game fourteen, thinking
guess is probably a little bit more of a work
in progress, figuring out some of the other pieces around

(02:12:05):
Jokich and Murray and Gordon because of the changes, because
of the current injury to Brown. But it's all on
display tonight over Toya Center and obviously right here on
Sports Talk seven ninety. As we head into the weekend
and we get ready to enjoy some pig skin, well
that means it's time for my Specs Game Day pick
and SPEC's Game Day Cocktail of the week. I always

(02:12:25):
like to keep it simple and its Specs. It very
much is the case, once stop, all your perfect pairings.
As we get into the holiday season, wine and fine spirits,
gourmet bites, you can always find your favorites. The Thanks
Pairing sale is going on now at Spex. Absolutely positively
have to do this. Also save room for SPEC's famous
whiskey Pecan pie when your cheers too. Savings are Game

(02:12:50):
Day Cocktail of the Week. I think you can make
a simpler drink than this, and I'll probably find out
next week with next week's rendition. But yeah, uh a screwdriver.
It's so simple, it's so easy. Got a long day
of football ahead of me on Saturday, you might as well,
so we'll get you started with that and our game
day pick of the week. We usually lean on our
stone cold locks to find the best we have out there.

(02:13:12):
We'll look back at our college football game of the
week my play there. You'll hear about it when I
drop it on social media with USC and Oregon a
College game Day Specs pick of the.

Speaker 2 (02:13:23):
Week the eighteen on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 6 (02:13:32):
Reminder, as usual as we get to in case you
missed it, we've got tickets to give away. We'll have
more tickets to give away of a different variety next week.
As we have done for many many months. On end,
the Summer of Fun did kind of come to a conclusion,
but we're still giving away tickets.

Speaker 5 (02:13:44):
It only lasted like eighteen months.

Speaker 6 (02:13:46):
Got a pair of tickets to see the Cougars and
Florida State at the Houston Hoops Showdown College Hoops Over
at Toyota Center December sixth give you in full on
that when we come back for our final segment. We
also have a pair of tickets to Monster Energies Ama
Supercross that's January thirty first at NRG Stadium. As I said,
more information on that final segment of the show. Listen

(02:14:07):
into the show. That's how you win tickets because we
ask you something about the show that we would have
discussed earlier, and then you can call in and win
those respective tickets.

Speaker 5 (02:14:16):
We had a lot to get to.

Speaker 6 (02:14:17):
Here are, in case you missed it, segment fronted by
Cole Thompson for the very last time. As you heard
this morning, Cole is ditching us. It's a common theme here.
Our producer leaves us for better things ahead. Mornings here
on Sports Talk seven to ninety starting.

Speaker 5 (02:14:37):
Monday, will now be the.

Speaker 6 (02:14:40):
Morning Drive with Dan and Cole heard Dan there on
the morning show for quite some time, heard Cole with
him for many of the recent shows, and now you
will hear the two of them permanently together kicking off
our broadcast day six to ten am each and every
weekday morning into the Matt Thomas Show with Ross, and
then at the A team here with the two us Cole.

Speaker 5 (02:15:01):
It's been awesome.

Speaker 6 (02:15:03):
You won't be going far, but like everybody else here
and out there in listener land, I'm sure looking forward
to it.

Speaker 5 (02:15:09):
Any Morning Drive begins on Monday.

Speaker 4 (02:15:11):
Can I just give you one piece of unsolicited advice
before you you go? Could you just be a little
bit more energetic? I just don't think you bring it
enough for a garment.

Speaker 12 (02:15:19):
Really want me to be more and you want me
to go full wet blanket on the show?

Speaker 5 (02:15:23):
Oh my god, you want us to be wex and no, no, no, no, no, no.

Speaker 6 (02:15:26):
Every show is different. There is no wet blanket on
the Matt Thomas Show with Ross. There's never been a
wet blanket on the Nightcap, no matter who's hosted, and
there certainly does not need to be a wet blanket
on the Morning.

Speaker 12 (02:15:36):
Let's be real, if there's more energy inside of me.
I will have a brain aneurysm and it will be
the schooleest morning drive of all time.

Speaker 6 (02:15:42):
We will be listening bright and early at six am,
several hours after your arrival at the station.

Speaker 5 (02:15:48):
No doubt, what do you have for us today?

Speaker 12 (02:15:50):
So we got to talk more about Titus Howard. I
don't think that we give him enough love and prey
in a praier role for what he's been able to
accomplish this year.

Speaker 5 (02:15:58):
Missed the game with a concussion, came back.

Speaker 12 (02:16:00):
I played in position last night, played another position, moving
from the right side of the offensive line to the
left side of the offensive line. The Texans only gave
up two pressures on thirty dropbacks. They give up one
tackle for loss.

Speaker 2 (02:16:15):
That was it.

Speaker 12 (02:16:15):
So again, guy learning how to play a brand new position,
not knowing if he's going to start on the right
side of the left side, kind of balls on out
and Davis Mills said, basically he was the smartplug of
the team that really keeps the offensive line in continuity.

Speaker 11 (02:16:30):
Titus is a warrior, extremely selfless. I've been a locker
mate with him for the past couple of years, and
I mean he's a great person. Great football player and
whatever he whenever he's on the field, he wants to
do what's best for the team. And I mean he's
played every single one of those positions at a really
high level. I don't know if there's many other guys
in the league who can do what he does. If

(02:16:50):
you ask Titus, he'd probably tell you could play every
position on the field, quarterback being one of them. But
I mean, I think I love Titus on the He's
a great teammate and he keeps showing why he's He
means so much to this team, and he's one of
the best offensive linemen in the league.

Speaker 6 (02:17:07):
You mentioned he played left guard last night. That means
he was, for the first time in Ersery's left tackle career,
lined up right next to him. You and I were
actually talking to Erstree last night, and he was telling
you about what you just said. I don't think people
realize what he's doing this year and how important and

(02:17:28):
how well he's played for the Texans. This is from
rookie left tackles on Titus Howard. And then you asked
him if he thought this was the best defense in
the NFL, and he.

Speaker 12 (02:17:38):
Not miss Abeaten said, I called against them every single
day in practice.

Speaker 4 (02:17:41):
What do you think I would I would tend to agree.
I I one of the best offensive linemen in the NFL.

Speaker 6 (02:17:47):
He's definitely one of the The Texans have the best
defense in the NFL.

Speaker 5 (02:17:53):
He says, yes, Okay.

Speaker 12 (02:17:54):
Yeah, no, he was saying he was praising how he's
one of the best offensive linemen.

Speaker 5 (02:17:59):
Maybe I won't go that far. He is one of
the most versatile. Yeah, versatile is definitely a better term.

Speaker 6 (02:18:04):
Yeah, his career doesn't suggest it, but his season does.

Speaker 4 (02:18:08):
This is Titus Howard's best season well, and it's his
healthiest two Yeah.

Speaker 6 (02:18:13):
I mean the injury the game missed this year was
an unfortunate one because of concussion, but his body is
in good shape.

Speaker 12 (02:18:20):
So would you guys agree that the plan moving forward
for the rest of Titus Howard's career is to be
basically positionless and just fill in wherever he needs tou
so that way he has all pro seasons.

Speaker 6 (02:18:30):
Dude, that's like your sixth lineman, not your one or
two best linemen.

Speaker 5 (02:18:36):
That's just how it's supposed to.

Speaker 2 (02:18:39):
It's working.

Speaker 5 (02:18:40):
I take a look.

Speaker 6 (02:18:41):
Though, at last night's lineup, which will almost assuredly be
the lineup they use next week and every week, barring injury.
Ursere rookie obviously brand new. Other tackle Trent Brown signed
in the off season, other guard Ed Ingram signed in
the off season, center Jake Andrews signed in the off season,
and Titus Howard's starting at left guard for the first
time all season. As much as the bargain bin shopping

(02:19:03):
is clearly what happened this offseason. The five you put
out there, all new in some form or fashion to
this year's team. It's the best offensive line game played
in at least two seasons, no matter the competition. I mean,
clearly the competition was garbage. Buffalo's front is terrible.

Speaker 5 (02:19:21):
Yeah, no, I mean I do.

Speaker 4 (02:19:22):
I have thought out over the last several hours, like
you know it, and I said that going into the game,
like at Oliver is that good it. I don't know
if they wouldn't have won the game last night if
he had played, But I don't think we would be
talking about Davis Mills not turning the ball over.

Speaker 6 (02:19:41):
If you're gonna put it out there, then I think
it's only fair that CJ.

Speaker 5 (02:19:44):
Gets to play too. I agree.

Speaker 6 (02:19:47):
What else do we have? So remember the ref that died,
so that did not happen. He hurt himself and he
had to leave the game. He got carted off the
field on the sideline.

Speaker 5 (02:19:57):
Neither one of you reacted to the meme I sent.
I thought it was great. I'm working.

Speaker 4 (02:20:01):
It was hours ago, it was last night, and then
I get hold up more kings.

Speaker 5 (02:20:04):
I've already seen it. Anyways.

Speaker 12 (02:20:06):
Adrian Hill, who left Thursday night's game, is believed to
avoid major injury off his achilles is still attacked. He
was carved off the field. He is an accomplished air
aerospace engineer, but it's been an NFL official seas doing
dabbling in NFL games.

Speaker 5 (02:20:21):
Then that was my first thing was wow, this side hustle.

Speaker 6 (02:20:25):
He was in the end zone making his way towards
the end of a play and he clearly it definitely
looked like he rupt your achilles, the way he handled it,
the way he was unable to put any weight on
it on his way off of the field before he
ultimately sat in the cart and rolled out, and he
left his replacement with dealing with the play clock being
non operational for the final couple of minutes. Hey, we'll

(02:20:47):
be keeping it on the field and then it started
going and OL's up in the booth saying, well, the
play clock's back working. And then as soon as that
play ends, he goes, it didn't seem like they had
forty seconds.

Speaker 4 (02:20:57):
Yeah, but not working. By the way, the the meme
that I sent, what I know you all care about.
Chiefs are the unluckiest team in the league. Their best
players season just ended in the game. They're not even
playing as they show the footage of the referee being
helped off the field.

Speaker 5 (02:21:11):
How is that a meme.

Speaker 4 (02:21:12):
Though it's on NFL memes account.

Speaker 5 (02:21:15):
Memes account, memes account. What are we do insane memes?
Who says that you just said memes account didn't I
did not? I said memes slee your ears out in there?
He did no such thing.

Speaker 12 (02:21:25):
Final thing, uh, Lane Kiffin, the debacle, the decision, everything
going on in Oxford. Will he won't keep wait another
week because if he has made it clear, and so
has that black director Keith Carter, they will decide on
his long term fate between Florida, Ole Miss and LSU
after the eight go on.

Speaker 4 (02:21:43):
Wait a second, why is it a long term fate?
That sounds ominous because is he going days away. Yeah,
but fate sounds bad.

Speaker 5 (02:21:51):
Is not signing a deal with any of these places?

Speaker 12 (02:21:54):
Find destiny his along awaited decision, his foregone conclusion.

Speaker 6 (02:21:59):
Let Lan focused on the Mississippi State game that's still
over a week away.

Speaker 5 (02:22:04):
Serious, Wayne Cook his fate.

Speaker 1 (02:22:10):
The age on Sports Talk seven ninety All.

Speaker 4 (02:22:15):
Right, hold on segment, final segment of the week. There's
no way this is true. Did you see the tweet
that Brian sent us? The tweet that Brian sent us
We were talking about memes during the last segment, he wrote,
I had a client refer to memes as May May's
and I almost wet my pants.

Speaker 6 (02:22:36):
I have seen that said before. I just can't remember who.
It was, a movie and a parody, someone who clearly
did it intentionally wrong, or there are people who think
that's what it is May.

Speaker 5 (02:22:45):
May's Again, I've heard memes. No one says that I
have heard it where he has heard people say it incorrect?

Speaker 4 (02:22:55):
Your mom called it memes? Did she listen to the show?

Speaker 5 (02:22:58):
I don't know. I don't know if she is today,
she's gonna hear you making fun of her.

Speaker 6 (02:23:03):
You remember yesterday, I think it was what I correctly
wrote in our rundown. After the fact that was the
domestic segment. I got a text that said I enjoyed
the domestic segment from who My Mom See I love
your Mom because I think it was because I contributed
a little bit about my life.

Speaker 5 (02:23:20):
Not very much, because it's super boring and vanilla.

Speaker 6 (02:23:23):
But that's how thing actually finds out about it, because
when she calls me or talks to me like we
did earlier today, she just I know, actually I can
feel her shaking her head at every one word answer
that I give her.

Speaker 4 (02:23:36):
I have to retell this story. I don't even think
Cole's heard this story before.

Speaker 12 (02:23:39):
We can't give away tickets first, okay, give away the
tickets wext Gosh, can you do the thing we're supposed
to do?

Speaker 5 (02:23:44):
Be responsible?

Speaker 6 (02:23:45):
If you were listening to the show, you'll know answer
to this simple question that AC has formulated for you.
But the tickets you'll be playing for answering the question
for its seven one three, two one two five seven
ninety our pair of tickets to the Houston Hoops showdown.

Speaker 5 (02:23:59):
That's College Hoop, it's you of.

Speaker 6 (02:24:00):
H I know they're not currently the number one team
in the country. Why would they be the voters are
super smart. They're number two. Uh, they were number one,
but then they won a game, and so they voted
them out of being number one, even though they beat
a very good team in the process. Whatevs U of
H has Florida State December sixth over at Toyota Center,
sixth all time meeting between these two programs, first in

(02:24:22):
more than fifty years. You can get your tickets now
at Toyota Center dot com or win them here pair
of tickets to Monster Energy AMA Supercross on January thirty,
first that set at Ergy Stadium. Tickets on sale now
at ticketmaster dot com.

Speaker 5 (02:24:35):
Have you been listening to the show.

Speaker 6 (02:24:38):
This will be very easy for you to answer. It's
been brought up discussed briefly or at length seven one three,
two one two five seven ninety.

Speaker 5 (02:24:46):
What is today's question? Oh? Is this is where I
was supposed to come up with a question.

Speaker 4 (02:24:49):
I'm kidding. I did this time. That actually happened earlier
this week. I was like, what huh. It was a
very rass moment for me here on the show. There
were several Texas Rangers that were non tendered earlier today,
and as WEX put it, one of them is climbing
the charts on my chart of top sports haters.

Speaker 6 (02:25:12):
Yeah, we could have told you any number of things,
but if I told you this player we're looking for
as our answer would definitely be in the starting lineup
for AC's All Baseball team. He's he's all all Baseball
hate team.

Speaker 5 (02:25:26):
He's got one for every sport.

Speaker 6 (02:25:28):
Yes, a five man group in the NBA would be
easy to come up with, eleven and nine player group
with a pitcher.

Speaker 5 (02:25:35):
I hate that many NFL players that much.

Speaker 6 (02:25:37):
I was going to get to the numbers suggest you
at least have to hate twenty two guys in the
NFL to make a full long starting line. That's a
bit much so that we're asking about a Rangers player
non tendered became a free agent today, and it's not
Jonah him. He was several among the several Rangers that
were non tendered, but he didn't make your all hate team.

(02:25:59):
And there's very good res since why this particular player did.
He's got a long history against your Houston Astros, a
very prominent figure over the last handful of years against
your Houston Astros.

Speaker 5 (02:26:10):
He likes to stomp around the bases. You just can't
help yourself. It could be anybody.

Speaker 4 (02:26:16):
If you were to ask me or Kevin Durant our
opinion of him, we would both say he's an idiot.

Speaker 6 (02:26:22):
I think people probably already know that it's hard to
non tender Marcus Simeon or Corey Seeger when they're making
a billion years at a billion dollars apiece.

Speaker 4 (02:26:34):
Great GMing. All right, so there you go, seven one three,
seven ninety. Now, as Cole now answers phone calls, he
won't be able to hear the story that I want
him to hear.

Speaker 5 (02:26:44):
So we were another thank you for all of you
here on the show. Well, yeah, the show. You do
that at the very tail end.

Speaker 4 (02:26:50):
Uh so he knows we mean it, but no, there
was we were It was Ryan's bar mitzvah right. I
mean he's had one. Yes, you were there. He'll never
give a normal answer. Yes, it's funny. He's doing this
because of what I'm about to tell. I think that
was the first time I ever was in person introduced
to your mom. Okay, and I'm like, oh, because she's

(02:27:13):
such a sweetheart. She really both your parents are great,
and uh, I've actually hung out with your dad more
in that we had lunch together. But yeah, your mom
was so nice and we meet each other, exchange pleasantries,
and she says to.

Speaker 6 (02:27:27):
Me, he needs to be nicer on the show. She
said the same thing to me too, and.

Speaker 5 (02:27:32):
I said, I agree with you. I think he should.

Speaker 4 (02:27:36):
Sure. Oh, it was so great because she is so nice.
And then she said that, and she said it so genuinely.

Speaker 6 (02:27:42):
You know, well, I know what one listener's opinion of
what the product reproduce every day is one of us
needs to be nicer.

Speaker 4 (02:27:49):
Yeah, your mom's not you. Well, I you know, Mama
lost cause you're nice.

Speaker 5 (02:27:56):
I'm all right.

Speaker 4 (02:27:57):
I decide what mood I'm going to be in on
any given day. Well, as you were saying, and I'm
a little two cents. It's been very nice to have
Cole here on the show produced. Yeah, listen joining us
here on the show for the last several months.

Speaker 5 (02:28:08):
Cole was can I I shouldn't tell that story.

Speaker 6 (02:28:12):
Let him tell it on his own on his own show.
You can listen to the Morning Drive. Hear all about it.
If it's about him, he probably knows it.

Speaker 8 (02:28:18):
Well.

Speaker 4 (02:28:19):
He just he said something to me that was very
complimentary when we first started, and it just kind of
took me a bout. I wasn't used to hearing that
kind of thing. Do you remember what I'm talking about?
He's talking to people, See, this is why it's hard time.
Do you remember what you said to me like early on?
And it was I was taken aback because I just
wasn't used to hearing that kind of thing.

Speaker 5 (02:28:39):
Oh, that you were my favorite hosts in the city.

Speaker 4 (02:28:42):
He said I was his favorite host in the city.
I go, what happened?

Speaker 5 (02:28:45):
Did you?

Speaker 9 (02:28:45):
I know?

Speaker 4 (02:28:46):
It was so you need to be nicer Cole. It
was like, so, I just I was like, there's a
lot of options. Man, Hey, I'll take it. But yeah, No,
he has been fantastic on the show. He's been obviously
very easy to work with. And you know, since we're
saying goodbye to him, we should probably say hello to
Josh Jordan.

Speaker 5 (02:29:05):
While we're at it.

Speaker 4 (02:29:05):
Come on, Josh, and Josh is familiar to both of
us because he's been here before.

Speaker 6 (02:29:09):
Yeah, exactly, what's familiar to many people out there as well.

Speaker 5 (02:29:13):
Familiar behind the curtain.

Speaker 4 (02:29:15):
I have been reticent, hesitant to say either of their
names a lot this week until the release came out,
because I'm like.

Speaker 6 (02:29:23):
Yeah, so a new morning show, The Morning Drive with
Danny Cole exactly.

Speaker 4 (02:29:26):
So I didn't want to just you know, put Josh
out there before I was legally allowed to, not that
there was legally well.

Speaker 6 (02:29:32):
I was just more about, hey man, it's not for
us to write.

Speaker 5 (02:29:37):
Reveal here everybody. We got a big announcement announcement exactly.

Speaker 4 (02:29:41):
So, yeah, we will miss Cole and we are we
welcome in Josh and uh, you know, don't screw anything
up either one of you.

Speaker 5 (02:29:51):
We'll do our best. No, he'll be they'll be fine.
They'll be fine in each of their roles.

Speaker 4 (02:29:54):
And we're looking forward to it in the coming weeks
and months and years.

Speaker 6 (02:29:59):
No question about it. It was an awesome night last
night at One Venue. Hopefully it will be comparably nice
tonight over at Toyota Center. We've got the game for
you here eight thirty tip ish so seven thirty coverage here.
By the way, this being a national television broadcast or stream,
it is a pre post game over on Space City

(02:30:21):
Home network.

Speaker 5 (02:30:22):
Right here.

Speaker 6 (02:30:22):
They will have coverage for pre and post with coverage
from inside the building. Vanessa Esh and Kevin Eschenfelder and
Calvin Murphy you'll all see them tonight before the game
and after then.

Speaker 4 (02:30:33):
If you enjoyed red last night, you're gonna have plenty
of it again tonight. You think Steve Kerr would have
looked at the stadium last night and said, it looks
like the depes of Hill.

Speaker 5 (02:30:39):
I'm scared. I don't like what a weenie he is.

Speaker 6 (02:30:43):
All right, enjoy it that. Next time you hear Cole
will be what next? We got a night cap?

Speaker 5 (02:30:49):
Now, we got it me on Monday morning. Oh okay,
then that's what it'll be. Just lu next. Oh that's
good information
