Speaker 1 (00:00):
That be Thanksgiving Eve, Houston. It is the A team
Sports Talk seven ninety. It's a Wednesday edition of the show,
but more importantly, it is a Thanksgiving Eve edition of
the show. I gotta tell you, I know I said
that Halloween's my favorite holiday, and I think you agreed
with me, which I didn't expect. Wex but pound for pound,
(00:22):
no pun intended. This is a very very close second
two A. I don't know. It's Thanksgiving's fantastic. It's a
bunch of eating and watching football. And for a change,
at least in the case of the first two games
on the schedule tomorrow, Like I'll be honest with you,
and I think, didn't they change the time this year?
It's like obscenely early for the Lions game, I would
(00:45):
say no. Against the Packers, I would say no. But
isn't it normally later than it's kicking off?
Speaker 2 (00:50):
They got three games and three time slots. How how
late can you go and how early.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
Do you need to go? You know, I'm fine with
a nightcap. It's perfect.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
It's noon three point thirty and seven to twenty, like
totally normal.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
Why did I feel like the first game was an
hour earlier? This year. Am I crazy. It's hard for
me to say. I know I'm asking the wrong person.
But the point of all that is the late game
is the sucky game. In your mind it is, it's
the return of Joe Burrow. Okay, Oh I'm sorry, I forgot.
I'm gonna wet blanket his return.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
Uh well, I mean, I guess it's that's a terrible, unwatchable,
useless piece of pigskin garbage.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
I know we're rooting for him to win bad because
it helps the Texans and get all that.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
Yeah, get your food and football in early because by
the time it gets to seven to twenty, get that
TV off. You should be alone vissing if you're watching
that game, it's us.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
Follow me on this. I know what you're saying, but
just just follow me on this. How many years did
you not watch the Thanksgiving Day parade or not help
in the kitchen as you were watching another awful Lions
involved early game on Thanksgiving? I mean it was like
we also live. We only had two games. That's a
(02:01):
true three game phenomenon is relatively new, relatively new, but
even with even during the Barry Sanders years, it was like,
oh god, this is the Lions. It's just a bad
reading for either team anyway.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
And keep in mind, when I was growing up, there
wasn't even fantasy football.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
Are you sure you didn't invent it on paper by
hand with pencils. Well, that was in the nineties. Okay,
Rotisserie League WEX, that's what I call you back then.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
But that's what makes all the games interesting now, no
matter who's playing or how bad the teams are.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
Fantasy football, yes, yeah, but but just from the strict
strictest standpoint of competition, those first two games are awesome.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
Tomorrow, I think we have a lot of really good games.
And the point of this weekend and that not only
do you have three games on Thanksgiving, there's a game Friday.
Yeah we're not aware, and it pits two eight and
three teams against one another.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
It's good time, good time. Bears are eight and three,
but they're not that good. This just in The Bears
are eight and three. Worst eight and three team ever.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
We should line them all up. Who's the worst eight
three team? It's the Bears. This is the worst seven
and four team, it's the Jaguars. Who's the worst six
and five team? Three seven and four teams and the
AFC currently and all of them suck. Basically, the Jaguars
are seven and four, they suck. The Chargers are seven
and four, suck. And do you want to say, since
they lost to the Texans, the Bills also suck.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
I won't say they suck. Okay, they have a really
good quarterback. But yeah, And all of this is to
say you're keeping an eye on all of a lot
of these games before you even get to Sunday, because
some of that help that the Texans need. I mean,
they just win their games and they wouldn't need any help.
Probably if they win their games, they will not need help. Yeah,
(03:44):
that's actually true. I need to be more forceful with
that statement. There's z I think. I don't. I'd have
to double check.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
I don't even think there's a mathematical property already that
they could miss the playoffs if they win out right,
because of who they play and who everybody else plays
amongst each other. I think if they win six times
finished twelve and five, there is no scenario that has
them missing the playoff.
Speaker 1 (04:05):
This is crazy. It's not. It's not out of the question.
Speaker 2 (04:09):
They have some Really, you're right, it's not out of
the question that they win twice as many games the
rest of the way with c. J.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
Stroud as they did in the first eight tries. I'm
not even worried about him.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
Well, I'm not even putting it on him, but that
was just the easiest way to say it. Well, they
played eight games with him as the starter, Yeah, and
they won three times.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
Yeah, I know, but that I mean I had a
conference to have.
Speaker 2 (04:28):
The benefit of playing against Tennessee, you know this last
couple of weeks, although he did the first time and
he won, didn't have the benefit of playing against Buffalo
when the defense played arguably the best defensive game in
Texans history.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
Well, three of those games that he lost, the first
two are against again increasingly increasingly better teams, but one of.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
Them is getting increasingly worse health wise. Well, if their
quarterback's hurt, they stink, that's true.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
But if Baker Mayfield can be out on a football field,
I wouldn't bet against them a lot of times.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
I think they're going to actually be smart and take
a chance and sit him and see what happens.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
Who's the Bucks playing this week? The Cards? Oh, they
should sit him.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
I know they're not healthy, but if it makes him
much healthier in two weeks, then see if you can
somehow squeeze out a wind.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
With Teddy Bridgewater getting all the practice this week. I
can't believe Teddy Bridgewater is still in the league. I'm
old enough to remember when he was drafted in the
Johnny Manzel draft. He's not well, that's not even that old.
That's what I would call it. He's he's not. He's
really not that old clown.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
He had some serious injury issues which sidelined him earlier
than he otherwise would have been out of the.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
Least, probably stunted his growth as a quick We had
concussion issues and an absolutely ridiculously awful knee injury. He
put it on backwards. It was bad. Ye, well he
also got hurt of practice. Right, how many times do
you want to send us to break already? Brother? He
treated like a Friday. I guess we can just go
into today is Friday, isn't it. Let's go to break
(06:05):
right now? Let's do it? No it again, Josh Jordan, Yeah,
do it. It's gonna happen before the end of the segment,
isn't it all right? I woke up today and I
was you remember the remember the live version. I know
you do. Remember the live version of Welcome to the
Jungle where Axl's on stage and Slash starts the riff.
(06:25):
It's like iconic and you hear Axel grabs the mic
and he goes wake up down like that. That's how
I felt about the Colts and the Warriors when I
woke up this morning. I had death on the brain
metaphorically of course, towards two rival teams of Houston sports franchises.
That's where I was at. That's my headspace. Well over
(06:46):
it to Texans. Today is a Wednesday, a normal work
Wednesday for the Texans. They play on Sunday, so they
will practice today, tomorrow and Friday. No media availability tomorrow,
and that it is Thanksgiving and then we'll be back
over there on Friday. I was over there for their
practice earlier today. As expected, both players that are still
in concussion protocol as of two oh seven fifty on
Wednesday afternoon, C J. Stroud and Jalen Peatrie were at
(07:10):
practice today, varying degrees of participation. I would imagine, as again,
we leave long before you really get to determine that.
I don't know about Jalen Peatre's status. I do know
he was there.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
I do know this is the second practice he's participated
in some form or fashion, but I couldn't tell you
if he's at the very very last stage of the
concussion protocol. I feel like I can tell you that
about c J Stroud that the team has the opportunity
to confirm that in the next half hour. So Demiko Ryans,
we'll meet with the media after today's practice in about
twenty minutes. And if that's where things are, I don't
(07:44):
see any reason why he wouldn't acknowledge that to us.
But if that's not where things are, he may just
give the answer he's given throughout this entire stay in
concussion protocol.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
He's making progress.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
Obviously, he can't deny that he's at practice, but he
can also say that this we're just seeing where things go,
and if things progress, we'll see where they are then
And as he said the other day, when he's healthy
and ready, he will start. And I think again, based
on what has been seen and not only that, what's
been seen from CJ in other non football situations, the
(08:16):
Turkey giveaway yesterday over at the facility, the event, he
and Demiico and bun Bee had over the weekend, the
fact that he was on the sidelines at their Thursday
night games, that he practiced that week last week, now
over a week ago. All signs are pointing to he's
made the medical necessary progress through concussion protocol, and I
(08:38):
do think he will be starting on Sunday against the Colts.
Whether or not that announcement comes today, I do not know,
but I do believe that's what we were watching out
there at practice today. The quarterbacks do their drill work
and take their reps, and sometimes you can tell where
we're headed.
Speaker 1 (08:53):
I think you could tell where we're headed based on
what we saw today. I think what's crazy is that
you took it. You look at these two guys, CJ
and Jalen and very and again we're playing doctors on
the radio, and we're playing doctors in our armchair or
our press box seat or wherever we were when the
first one happened, because everybody saw it kind of a
(09:14):
fluke the way it physically happened, because nothing dirty I
think was done. Although a kind of secondary attempt at
a tackle, or a secondary make at a tackle, I
should say, is was the cause to the effect that
was CJ's head being slammed back on the turf. I
would say, there's never going to be a flukey way
(09:35):
to do this.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
Because you've told NFL quarterbacks to do something that makes
them get concussed and they said, okay, we'll do it. Yeah,
they should say no, I won't do it. Quarterbacks sliding
in traffic, It's that's what's going to happen.
Speaker 1 (09:49):
Safe.
Speaker 2 (09:49):
It is the most unsafe way to play football as
a quarterback.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
Because it actually encourages the act of hitting your head
on the tour.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
It's just very difficult to get the player to slide
early enough. It's difficult to get the defensive player to
stop from hitting them until it's too late. You're putting
them in a much worse position. You can slide all
you want, but you need to only be sliding when
you're also pretty guaranteed that nobody's going to hit you.
You're that far away from everybody. Josh Allen slid against
the Texans for a first down the other night. On
(10:18):
that third and fourteen play, he barely slid with the
ball past the first down yardage necessary when he began
his slide, but nobody hit him because nobody was near
enough him, near enough to him to hit him. And
that's the only time you can make a safe slide.
Every other slide you take as a quarterback is putting
yourself in additional harms.
Speaker 1 (10:36):
Way.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
Quarterbacks are not supposed to take a lot of hits,
but they can take football hits.
Speaker 1 (10:44):
They're football players.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
Run the ball, dive forward, brace for a hit, and
you're probably going to be fine.
Speaker 1 (10:51):
Slide and you're not. Probably not. I think the fact
that we have in a lot of cases people making
these rules who either didn't play the game or haven't
played since it evolved bigger, stronger, faster, is that goes
(11:12):
a lot of ways towards this type of thing being
the case. But I mean, you sit there and you
scream from the mountaintop. We're trying to care about our
quarterback's health. We're trying to, you know, make the game safer,
and I just I've said this in a million areas.
It should be safer, but you've watched games, it's not practical.
Well to play itself, it's not a practical safety measure.
(11:34):
If you're sliding, you're giving yourself up, which means you
are unprotected there's actually penalties called for defenseless players. When
you slide, you've made yourself not only defenseless, but prone
to injury because you've placed your body parallel to the
turf and when you get hit, you smash into it
with your head. Yeah, it's and it's second decision for
(11:55):
everybody involved, which just heightens the unsafe.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
I don't believe this happened. I don't think he had
a rib injury. I don't think he punctured along. I
don't think he hurt his shoulder all the places where
he got hit. Yeah, his head got hurt. Yeah, he
took a vicious shot to his side, to his ribs,
to his shoulder, all of which were fine and as
a result, So if that again, they're football players, as
(12:21):
much as some of them look like they aren't, and
aren't necessarily the size and speed of the other eleven
players chasing them, they are football players, and when they
do non football things, my thought is sliding as a
baseball play. That's just my thought. I get it. I
don't think it's going anywhere. I don't think they're going
to revisit the rule. I don't think they're going to
rewrite the rule. It just is we can see it
(12:42):
over and.
Speaker 1 (12:43):
Over and over again and wonder why they don't, but
they are going to do all right. So a lot
of stuff to get to. We will discuss the aforementioned
Rockets Warriors game tonight, as well tons of Texans Colt's
preview to get into in addition to that. On Basically,
it is our last show of the week and our
last show before we're gonna be able to talk about
(13:03):
a game that is now in the rear view mirror
on Monday, when it comes to the Colts and the Texans.
So we'll get to a scouting report, in fact, the
first of two when we come back. We'll go offense
first and then we'll do defense later on during the
game or during the show about this upcoming game with
the Colts, the Colts offense and who's going to give
us that scouting report? That's next. It is the A
(13:27):
Team Sports Talk seven ninety Wednesday edition of the program.
Hope you guys are already enjoying your holiday, and if
you are already and you're listening to us, we appreciate it.
It's wex jac It's Josh Jordan on a Thanksgiving Eve
edition of the program. We're taking you until six o'clock
tonight later, and I mean much later tonight, Like you're
(13:48):
gonna be I don't know, somebody's gonna be cutting onions
in the kitchen because they're making homemade stuffing, and you're
gonna be sitting down and trying not to fall asleep
as your eyes water in a chair watching Rockets Warriors
tip off at nine o'clock. It's just ungodly. I don't
care that it's on the West Coast, and I don't
care that it's it's a holiday. This thing should start
to be seven o'clock tip for them. Yeah. How much
(14:12):
more arrogant can California be in every which way? The
rest of the country, Well, there's I mean, football doesn't
do that. I mean I should say none of the
games do that unless it's at their place. Do you
think they like four o'clock afternoon games? You know what,
I really don't want to play on the East Coast.
They don't care, I guess not. They really do.
Speaker 2 (14:31):
Think they like waking up at nine am for college football? Ooh,
you have to wake up a little bit early to
watch sports. Do you ever consider maybe tailgating for it?
What time, are you getting out there?
Speaker 1 (14:41):
Five?
Speaker 2 (14:42):
I wouldn't actually exactly because the game starts at nine. Again,
you're not usually tailgating for a Roada on the East Coast,
but still.
Speaker 1 (14:48):
Well, not usually tailgating period. It's not I'm like, let
me get inside, unlike Texans fans who are still out
in the parking lot at kickoff or not there or
not there, that's right, but the seats are sold. So
speaking of the Texans, they got the Colts on the
road first of two they've got with their division rival Colts.
Pretty much everything has gone their way this year. Uh,
(15:11):
the fact that you've got to go on the road
first with these two, these two matchups I think actually
is in the Texans favor because that's presumably the healthiest
both teams are going to be heading into it, especially
if you get the news at CJ and Jalen Petrie
are going to play one or both. But I mean,
(15:32):
how many times did we talk about this down the
stretch last year? Oh my gosh, the Texans are beat up,
Like December was a nightmare, and they had injuries before that.
But you know, if you're still in this thing and
and whether this thing is making the postseason, winning the
division or both, that game back here in Houston to
end the season. Aren't you gonna Aren't you gonna be
glad at that point that you're playing it in your
(15:54):
building instead of having to go there like you did
a few years ago.
Speaker 2 (15:57):
I'll be happy if I were a Texans player or
their fans happy that you're not playing it there at all.
But yeah, certainly now when you feel like you're healthy
versus then, Not only has this team obviously been good,
they've won eight times in their eleven games, they're even
better at home.
Speaker 1 (16:13):
They're arguably the league's best home team.
Speaker 2 (16:15):
They're scoring more points than anybody else is at home
in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (16:19):
They've turned the ball over this year at home one time.
Speaker 2 (16:22):
That's pay five games at their home building, and they
have one turnover total in those five games. Who did
they play, though, defensively, some of the best teams in
the NFL. They played the Dolphins, they played the Raiders,
they played the Cardinals.
Speaker 1 (16:37):
I'll stop, they played the Titans and the Broncos. Now
was that one turnover against the Broncos? No, it's against
the Cardinals. Okay, Well, their home schedule has been a
joke except for the Broncos game, which they should have lost,
but the Broncos don't know how to not commit a
stupid penalty on the game's final play, so that allowed
(16:58):
the Colts to get a second try to they weren't
going to make, and then when it got a little closer,
they ended up making it. That's their one point home win.
Speaker 2 (17:06):
The other wins are by twenty five thirty four, four
over the Terrible Cardinals, and twenty four over the Titans.
But again, yes, the competition has something to do with it,
I think, But they've also averaged more points against the
rest of the league than anybody else season long, road
and home. They're the number one scoring team in the NFL,
and they're just a little bit better scoring team at home.
Speaker 1 (17:29):
And what do the Texans do better than anybody else
this year? And specifically, as it pertains two points scored.
Speaker 2 (17:35):
Except for the Rams. They don't keep people from or
they keep people off the board. They're now second and.
Speaker 1 (17:40):
The Rams, well, I think you're talking about the Rams game.
But yeah, I guess the.
Speaker 2 (17:44):
Rams are the number one scoring defense in the NFL
after last week because they only allowed seven points and
that allowed them to pass the Texans who allowed nineteen.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
I still can't believe that the.
Speaker 2 (17:55):
Y when I said the Texans were facing the best
defense they were going to face all year in Week one.
Speaker 1 (18:01):
So far, so good. We'll see and they don't have
to face themselves. No, they have that going well, that
was never on the table. I know, aked. I still
can't believe that the Bill scored nineteen points with as
many times as Josh Allen got bludgeoned. Well, their offense
only scored twelve, and that's true. I forgot about that
special teams. That sucks. That's how the Titans got six
(18:23):
of theirs. The other day, they.
Speaker 2 (18:24):
Got zero extra points against the Texans, considering they attempted
one against their defense quote unquote missed it. The extra
point they made was against their special teams. If you'll
allow for that, Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'll make exceptions. But yeah,
it's going into Every game is a must win from
(18:44):
here on out. That's how I'm looking at the schedule.
If on the Texans, obviously you could maybe drop one
here and there, but especially with the teams that are
ahead of you that you're playing, and this is certainly
one of them. But even the next week against the Chiefs.
It's a couple of reasons. You don't want to give
them any more hope, like the Colts just did.
Speaker 1 (19:05):
And uh, and you're fighting with them, you're trying to
fight them off. So but first things first, Yeah, this
this Colts team and getting it on the road. Like
I said, I'd rather get the hard part out of
the way first and then worry about everything else after that.
Speaker 2 (19:20):
See it goes. Nick Casaro, the general manager of the Texans.
He visits weekly with the people that talk Texans football
elsewhere in house. He talked this week about this particular
team and this particular offense facing this Texans defense.
Speaker 3 (19:35):
This is what Nick had to say. Let's see, I'll
find it kbm E.
Speaker 1 (19:46):
It's the offense. Some browsing music.
Speaker 2 (19:48):
See if I can at all, It's almost it takes
a minute for me to load it here and then
I'll trovasively.
Speaker 4 (19:55):
I mean, this is probably a diverse skill groups as
we're going to see. I mean they play four or
five receivers, really good tight ends. I mean, Warrens made
a pretty significant impact. He's probably one of the best
players coming out of the draft. I'm sure you thought
pretty highly of him, which the whole league did, and
he's very versatile. It does a number of things and
they play all of them, play Alice Cox, Ajogle Tree,
(20:15):
you know, and then a perimeter I mean, Pierce is
among the lead leaders in yards per catch, so he's
a chunk player. Downs has his role. Pittman's been one
of the more consistent, more dependable, one of the more
reliable receivers in the league. And they've got a lot
of explosive players out of dueling as well. And then
he has an impact offensively, and he's one of the
best kicking game players as well. And they've gotten good
quarterback play from Jones, you know, in really any end,
(20:35):
everything starts with Taylor. He's one of the best backs,
if not the best back.
Speaker 1 (20:39):
In the league.
Speaker 4 (20:40):
He can change the complexion of the game really in
one snap because of his explosive, big playability. And there's
multiple examples. And they've kind of had a kind of
a core group there in the offensive line and they've
done they've played well. So offensively, they're amongst the top,
i mean just about in every category.
Speaker 2 (20:55):
Like one thing to keep in mind, this is from
much earlier in the week before Ashton Doolan went on
injured reserve, so he's not going to play a role
in this game or any of the remaining or next
four games for the Colts potentially more.
Speaker 1 (21:06):
And he basically just ran down the roster.
Speaker 2 (21:08):
Other than the little tidbit on Pierce, which I think
everybody this point in the season is aware of, he
likes to throw the ball deep and when he does,
it's almost always to Alec Pierce, and it happened to
the Texans against the Colts before Daniel Jones arrived, when
Anthony Richardson threw It's amazing that this guy who cannot
throw the ball in the NFL with any kind of
accuracy whatsoever, through one of the best balls we've seen
(21:32):
in the last two years, all things considered, the rush
that was after him, the position he was in trying
to get rid of it, and where he hit his
receiver sixty plus yards down the field. But that was
Alec Pierce on the other end of that. Against the
Texans last year. He has been able to get behind defenses.
This Texans defense has been remarkably good at not allowing
(21:52):
that to happen. When you have quarterbacks who can extend plays,
you're prone to it. When you have a pass rush
that's not able to get to quarterbacks, you're prone to it.
And if your secondary isn't really good, you're prone to it. Well,
a couple of those things obviously aren't true. The Texans
front does get to quarterbacks. I don't know that Daniel
Jones is going to extend plays like the player you
just saw in Josh Allen, and your secondary is very good,
(22:14):
but it still happens. And so far this year, the
Texans have had it happen extremely infrequently. And it's one
of the reasons why you're an awesome defense. You're giving
up so few yards. Everybody's got to beat you to
death with an eight play drive, a three play touchdown drive,
but an eight or nine or ten play touchdown drive.
Because those big explosive plays haven't been there. The Colts
(22:35):
have been elite in finding them. Now you have to
remain elite at preventing them.
Speaker 1 (22:40):
We are going to remain elite at previewing this game. Again.
Like we mentioned, that was the offensive scouting report, if
you will, the scouting report on the Colts defense coming
up in our next hour. But every single day, this
time of day, we do it. It's one of our
signature segments, it is the best of X, and it's
(23:00):
did you all see this?
Speaker 5 (23:01):
Should be putting out between five and fifteen posts a day.
Speaker 6 (23:05):
Four hundred people were arrested for things of day said
on social media.
Speaker 5 (23:08):
History repeats itself type bang, you'll succeed, Never doubt that
you're the one.
Speaker 1 (23:15):
Who poss will go one biliad. You're the best of
it X. Nothing's gonna have a top. You know you're the.
Speaker 5 (23:23):
Best of it posting every single day and night. You're
the best of X, breaking the entire internet.
Speaker 2 (23:39):
Gust of X on a Wednesday for year on Sports
Talk seven ninety each and every weekday afternoon, halfway through
our number one, we wander our way through social media,
see what's out there, whether it's a ridiculous trade proposal
that's met with disgust, or a comment about somebody's girlfriend
(24:00):
that we think needs investigation, or something that took place
on some of our favorite shows that we might otherwise
have missed, but someone was nice enough to clip and
post on the social media streets.
Speaker 1 (24:11):
And that's where we go.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
Today. Today's Wednesday. So what happened last night in sports
happens every Tuesday. This part of the calendar college basketball
last night. College football rankings are released on Tuesday night,
and we get to see a we get to see
where everybody's put But then we get the completely awesome
(24:36):
Q and A between the people running the committee that
they've chosen as spokespeople and the media. Now media gets
the Hunter Urichek and Rich Clark on a teleconference after
the television program. But the television program Worldwide Leader hosts,
they get Hunter Eurichech, the athletic director for Arkansas who
(24:59):
replaced Rhodes, the former athletic director of Baylor, just a
couple weeks ago, to head this committee and be the
front man for the questions. We got that interview. So
that's where we find best of X Today. And this
is pretty simple stuff, you would think, and if you're
aware of what's going on in America probably elsewhere today
on social media, you probably could see this coming. But
(25:21):
we're cringing thinking that it actually was coming. Here's one
of Reese again, Reese Davis's questions to Hunter Yuriicek, discussing
how things fell in the middle of that top twelve,
and Hunter's response in every way was elite in the
(25:41):
worst way.
Speaker 7 (25:43):
But there was a change at six seven with Oregon
and ole Miss swapping spots. How much of it impact
potentially could it be on ole Miss if it's determined
they don't have their head coach in the field.
Speaker 1 (25:57):
Six seven. But here's a rich show. We didn't discustn't
know what to do with this.
Speaker 2 (26:04):
I really don't, and I'm glad everybody commented on it,
so I don't have to think about it anymore. Yes,
he heard Reese Reese say the spot's six seven. You've
made a change there, and he thought, as Reese finished
his question, he couldn't wait to do the hand motion
and say six to seven as crazy, awkwardly as humanly possible.
Speaker 1 (26:29):
Sick seven.
Speaker 2 (26:31):
And then he called him rich immediately afterward. So there's
a lot to unpack there when there shouldn't be anything
to unpack there. But of course awful announcing among the
many people to grab the clip but post it. So
we'll just go with the people that follow their account
and post it things accordingly. Dig the Pig, who probably
likes Arkansas, says, this guy leads the seventeenth highest program
(26:54):
in the country in terms of evaluation and revenue. I
don't think he's saying that as a compliment because he
had an exploding head emoji. That's Arkansas's ad Yes, former
University of Houston athletic director as well, a discerning Texan
since that is his handle, says.
Speaker 1 (27:11):
This committee is a joke, complete garbage. Now SG might
be onto something. I doubt it, but it would be nice.
He says, Hunter, you're a check. May have finally killed
this trend. Thanks Hunter.
Speaker 2 (27:26):
Is that possible that it was so bad, so cringey,
so unnecessary, so out of place and not funny that
people will.
Speaker 1 (27:34):
Say, yeah, that is it is kind of dumb. One
can pray, I mean, we can hope. Well, I just
look what trends come and go and how long they
last is subjective and depends on what the trend is,
and it depends.
Speaker 2 (27:48):
I believe this happened that I could double check. I
don't know if it happened before this or after this. Yesterday,
at the tournament in Vegas, the players are a tournament
sideline reporter gets the postgame interview with player, and in
this case it was the player and all of his
teammates hanging around for the interview and Laura Jabara asks
them a question. He responds and then when she tells him,
(28:09):
I don't know if you guys know this, but you
guys shot sixty seven percent in the second half, and
every the reaction on all these eighteen to twenty two
year old male basketball players. You could see it coming.
And they heard her say sixty seven and it was
so close to six seven that they did the hand motion.
Speaker 1 (28:29):
That's what read along with it. Does it have to
be said six to seven? Well, she said sixty seven.
That's it's being treated as the same thing. You know
what it reminds me of. This is totally loud of
left field, but it's just something that this total would
have set people into pandemonium if it were in present day.
Remember the old Bulls starting lineups. I remember them well.
(28:50):
Scott Pippen was always the first to be announced and
MJ was the last because they had that tandem. That's
pretty normal.
Speaker 2 (28:56):
You take the two most popular players and you get
them in the crowd to go crazy in separate spots.
Speaker 1 (29:02):
After Alan Parsons had played long enough, their project, Yeah,
their project. They had no lasers, and they got, you know,
the spotlight ready to go, and the lights are down
and Ray Clay takes the mic and he says, add
forward from Central Arkansas six seven Scott he Pippin. People
(29:23):
would have lost their minds. You would never would have
even heard his name if that were present day Chicago
and that was happening today. It's the first player announced.
It would definitely be the case. There's no question about it.
I hate it here.
Speaker 2 (29:33):
Arkansas should fire him right now for lack of competency.
Did he bring his side piece to the meetings like
the other one did. That's an assumption on what was
going on with mac Rhodes that we do not have
information on Yatzi. What a complete embarrassment that he is
our ad Obviously, another Arkansas fan chiming in, I'm real
happy with him now. All of these are very logical,
(29:56):
very worthy. Hill says nobody. He loves a good six
to seven joke more than myself. But this made my
skin crawl.
Speaker 1 (30:05):
So the cringe is in yep, and hopefully it delivers
us from this the de sense of spare.
Speaker 2 (30:11):
He's only been the voice for a couple of weeks,
and it's just each week it's been a it should
only be football related.
Speaker 1 (30:19):
The first time it was.
Speaker 2 (30:21):
Some of the stuff they're answering is very embarrassingly awful
about how they compare teams. Well, we're not comparing him
the head to head yet, Well they played each other.
Why don't Why wouldn't you yet? I understand a little
bit of logical this. This was much much worse, and
he was the six seven was so cringey, Like, who
did he think he was talking to? His name's Reese.
(30:42):
You talk to him every week, he's the There isn't
even another Rich that's on ESPN's college football coverage that
I've ever heard of.
Speaker 1 (30:50):
Why did he say Rich? Why would you do that?
Come on, Hunter, I'm right there with you. And again,
hopefully it's the beginning of the end for this awful trend.
We sound like old duddies. I don't care. I don't
want to be bothered with this in my life.
Speaker 2 (31:03):
Fine for the kids, No, Like when we talked about
it the other week, all these kids had kids Day
for an afternoon college basketball game. Every most universities will
do that at certain points before the holidays.
Speaker 1 (31:13):
Let's let's have a kid's Day.
Speaker 2 (31:14):
We'll have one o'clock tip off on a Tuesday or Friday,
and we'll bust all these kids over. And we've got
seats for them, and they'll enjoy the game, and when
the score goes from sixty six to sixty seven, they
go berserk.
Speaker 1 (31:25):
That's fine. I hate it, no problem. I hate it,
and I hate them. The adults don't need to participate.
I'm so glad Carson doesn't know about this. I don't
think he does. Well, there's a I would say seven.
Speaker 2 (31:35):
At the next Rockets home game that you do, or
the next Rockets home game that I do, there's a
one hundred percent chance the Rockets will eclipse the sixty
seven point barrier. Now, there's not one hundred percent chance
they will score at the end of a possession to
give them sixty seven points.
Speaker 1 (31:52):
If they do not eclipse the sixty seven point threshold,
then there's also a one hundred percent chance they're loose.
Using that game.
Speaker 2 (32:00):
I'm just saying analysis after a Men hits the second
free throw to make it from sixty six sixty to
sixty seven to sixty, I'll try to make Matt extremely
unhappy and try to fire me by saying something after it.
Speaker 1 (32:14):
You know how tall a Men Thompson is, don't you. Yeah,
he's above sixty six and below six eight. That'll do
for the Best of X Today, it's the A team
Sports SOX seven ninety. We are winding down the two
o'clock hour on a Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Here on the show,
you've got Texans and Colts. Sunday afternoon, you've got Rockets
(32:40):
and Warriors. Tonight out in the Bay Area, second game
of a four game road trip. Although it's only three cities,
the NBA doing something that while I still competitively think,
you know it's it's somewhat flawed. I understand from the
travel standpoint. I'm not going to complain since I'm mister
I hate back to backs. This clearly cuts down on
(33:02):
that sort of thing.
Speaker 2 (33:03):
Isn't the flawed aspect of it purely happenstance and there's
no rhyme or reason to it. You could play two
games back to back and miss nobody. You could play
two games that are different points in the season and
miss five guys.
Speaker 1 (33:14):
Right, But what if, like tonight's game was the first
of two against the Warriors, where admittedly Kdie's back for
the next night. But let's just say the first of
this trip, you're gonna have the Warriors for two games,
and then you're gonna have Phoenix and then you're gonna
have Utah or whatever. That's Those are the four teams
or the three teams you're playing in the four games.
What if you miss Katie in two of those three
matchups this season with the Warriors because you play two
(33:36):
of them in a row on this random trip in November.
Speaker 2 (33:39):
What if you play him in November, January, in March
and he misses all three?
Speaker 1 (33:43):
What if he is a random what if he plays
for all three? Though, you're right again, I'm just saying,
if there's no rhyme or reason to it when this
happens from the competitive flawed that I'm talking about, I'm
just glad that it's the Jazz and not you know,
some other team that's what was this the Thunder?
Speaker 2 (34:01):
I would say exactly the same thing, because I just
don't I don't think like that. I think if he
if he's gonna miss a game here, he's gonna miss
five games there, he's gonna miss three games there, I
don't know when they're gonna be, why they're gonna be,
or who they're gonna play at those times. I mean,
this obviously is not I don't believe an injury. It's
personal reasons, and yet it happens that you missed two
of four games against two different teams. If it happened
(34:23):
later in the road trip, you would have missed one
team twice.
Speaker 1 (34:26):
It's random. Yeah, now it is. Now they're gonna be
shorthanded without him tonight. Obviously, I don't like the fact
that Steven Adams is also gonna be out tonight.
Speaker 2 (34:36):
Yeah, it's just a matter of time before this happens.
I think a little bit more often. I don't know
that there's anything truly injured with Steven Adams, but I
think this is still part of the who he is,
how the age he is, and the injury that he
had that they would prefer he not play eighty two
games this year, and he's been on the injury report
probably five times this year with the right knee tendonopathy,
(34:57):
and that's what's going right, I believe in his case. Yeah,
Jabari is the one who's had knee, so it is
a little bit different insura. I think that they've been
trying to make the best of it, and that's obviously
when he goes out there and plays and isn't getting
knocked to the ground by Dylan Brooks everything's been fine.
They only have they have not had a back to back.
They will at the end of this road trip. That'll
(35:19):
be the first of the fourteen they have this year.
And maybe that's just this is in advance of that.
Not only that you played Monday. If he doesn't play tonight,
which he's not going to, he's already listed as out,
that means he doesn't play Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or.
Speaker 1 (35:35):
Sunday till they play again.
Speaker 2 (35:38):
That's an awful lot of in season time off where
you only miss one night of basketball. Yeah, so taking
advantage of the three days off that you're getting after
tonight's game, maybe something that they're looking at the fact
that they immediately play a back to back right after that,
maybe there's something to involve with that. A Speaking of availability,
it was just noted by Demiko Ryans moments ago in
(35:58):
his availability today after practice, citing that, you know, every
player is a little different with the steps they have
to go through and the protocol. Technically the steps aren't different,
but how they've reacted and how the symptoms have hit
them sometimes it's a different path to going through and
completing the concussion protocol. As they stand today, right now
at about two forty whatever it was when he said this,
(36:20):
both c J. Stroud and Jalen Petrie are still in
concussion protocol. Again, I don't believe this statement prevents them.
Me from saying I still believe that they are. In
CJ's case, I don't want to say this about Jalen.
I do not know more on him. I actually know
less on him. But I do believe the statement was correct.
I don't think he's saying anything that isn't correct. They
(36:43):
are still on the concussion protocol, but the necessary steps
likely in my opinion, are going to be cleared before Sunday.
And again, they don't have to be activated. There's no
roster move that has to be made. They were never
taken off the roster with this concussion.
Speaker 1 (36:58):
It is wild to me that Jalen Peatree played every
snap of that game and he is missing the same
amount of time, essentially for a concussion that we never
even really saw.
Speaker 2 (37:11):
What if I told you he's had more concussions than
c J. Stroud, you couldn't even say I don't believe you.
I would actually probably side in that being the case,
and I could say, yeah, he's probably had this many.
I can't tell you for sure how many he's had.
I can't tell you for sure how many any players had,
because they're not all documented, they're not all seen, they're
not all to the doctor. We go with this. I
(37:33):
felt this symptom. I think more recently, in the last
couple of years, it's become increasingly more difficult.
Speaker 1 (37:39):
Good It's a good thing.
Speaker 2 (37:40):
This has become increasingly more difficult for players not to
come forward. I think they recognize the need to come
forward if they are suffering from symptoms. But I think,
as you know, the time to get here. I mean
Jalen Peatree playing the way he plays here, playing the
way he played at Baylor for half a decade, I
would be shocked if if he hadn't had many concussions. Unfortunately,
(38:03):
much like many other players who played like he does,
he how.
Speaker 1 (38:06):
About I'll take a step further. He might have even
caused some of them. He's a hard hitter. It's the
way you hit, it's what you hit, it's the speed
with which you're in He's he that's his job.
Speaker 2 (38:17):
Also goes to show you that trying to play doctor
when you're not one, when it comes to concussions, is
not useful. I don't know the greade of his concussion.
I don't know how the symptoms are going to hit him.
I have no idea at all. I wouldn't know it
for any player, and doctors don't even know it. That's
what is so obviously awful about concussions. It's not, oh,
(38:39):
let's let's go inside and we'll put a screw in
here and fuse the ankle back together and need a
little bit of rehab, won't We just put you in
a walking boot and that should help a little bit,
and we'll go in for surgeon a little bit. When
the swelling goes down and ship shape, you'll be good
in a couple of weeks.
Speaker 1 (38:53):
That's not what this injury is. Although I will say
I and I'm not proud of being right, but as
soon as I saw his head hit in his reaction,
I knew it was going to be more than one game.
I knew that I.
Speaker 2 (39:08):
Did, and I'm not a doctor to the same exactly
what we're talking about.
Speaker 1 (39:14):
You didn't even see the other one.
Speaker 2 (39:15):
He's out for the same amount of time at least,
if not more like I don't know the Jalen Peetre's
even gonna play this week?
Speaker 1 (39:19):
Right? It kind of sounds like he might not and
CJ would if I'm I'm betting on this, which I'm not.
It's just it just didn't. It didn't look great for CJ.
But the fact that he's been there, he's been a
part of things and it's been as long as it
has makes me kind of lean in that direction. But
(39:41):
you're right, we don't know's it's a very inexact nonscience.
Is that the best way to put it. That's the
best way to put it.
Speaker 2 (39:49):
And again, guessing is dangerous, but I think the odds
are pretty good that, barring something new changing, that CJ.
Speaker 1 (39:56):
Stroud is going to play on well. And I also
think what's the line right now? Four and a half?
I mean, if that's Davis Mills, don't you think it's
not four and a half in Indianapolis? Don't you think
it's more?
Speaker 2 (40:09):
I doubt it only because they don't know that he's
coming back Vegas. Vegas knows everything. I thought they have
a good idea. I mean, it's Wednesday and he's in
concussion protocol. I don't like the sound of that. The
way you say it that way. No, No, I'm just saying, yeah,
I don't know why the line's four and a half
to begin with period.
Speaker 1 (40:28):
Yeah, it's it's odd. All right. We will take a
quick time out. We will come right back, we'll start
doing the TV thing, and we'll get to part two
of our Nick Cassario scouting report. This time we're gonna
tackle the Colts defense.
Speaker 2 (40:39):
We'll send you into your Thanksgiving a holiday with today's
program and into this evening's Rockets basketball game. They've got
the Golden State Warriors on part of this road trip.
They'll make their way through Utah a little bit later
another night without Kevin Durant. Texans had their first practice
of the week just a little while ago. They'll do
so again tomorrow and Friday, and then make the trip
to Indianapolis for their game against the first place Indianapolis Colts. Colts,
(41:02):
we're sitting atop the AFC for most of the season.
They are now at eight and three, so a game
and a half back of the Patriots, a game back
of the Broncos, all of whom play this weekend. Patriots
at the last game of the weekend maybe one of
the easiest, though they're playing Monday night football at home
against the Giants, who are probably getting Jackson Dart back
into their lineup this evening or that evening, I should say,
(41:24):
on Monday night, as he was back on the practice
field today after his concussion and seeding way to their
third string quarterback Jameis Winston for some entertaining but typically
losing football for them coming up today, which we have
not yet mentioned. We will bump up Friday's signature segment
to today so we can give you our Stone Cold
(41:44):
Locks today. Why and introduced Josh, our producer to the
Stone Cold Locks. Because every single time in Stone Cold
Locks history, that all three of us have missed all
five of our picks, and we've gone ozh to fifteen,
we have voted to eliminate somebody from making any picks
any time moving forward. Ever, again, we voted for Cole
(42:05):
to be eliminated, so Josh will be taking a spot.
Josh will be taking a spot at four thirty vote. Well,
two of us already voted, and that's two majority rules.
We already won, so Josh is in. Cole is out
for other reasons. Obviously, you can hear Cole each and
every weekday morning on the Morning Drive six to ten
AM right here on Sports Talk seven ninety. Also coming
(42:26):
up in one hour, we will visit with Colt's writer
and a morning host there in Indianapolis, James Boyd, talk
a little bit about how the Colts got to this point,
what is still going well, and probably one aspect we've
barely talked about it all this entire season, and it
didn't have the whole season to talk about it, But
in the lead up to this game, I haven't mentioned
(42:47):
either for as uninspiring some of their areas defensively might be,
and for the fact that Buckner's out, even though Stewart
and Lot two are still very good upfront. We have
mentioned a whole lot about their cornerbacks and probably should.
Travarious Ward is now back and playing, Kenny Moore is
playing where he's best served there in the slot, and
(43:08):
Sauce Gardner is an Indianapolis Colt as much as he's
not quite the player that Derek Stingley is. Congrats to
Derek and his fiance by the way, Baby on the Way,
as they post it on Instagram, This is a I
don't really think it matters on Sunday when you play,
(43:29):
if the deal was good or not, if you gave
up too much, if it's going to be costly for you.
Speaker 1 (43:33):
All that matters is the football.
Speaker 2 (43:35):
The Colts team the Texans are playing that has sauce
Gardner is better than the Colts team everybody else played
before he got there.
Speaker 1 (43:42):
And that's just a fact.
Speaker 2 (43:44):
The fact that Ward's out there also, this is more
challenging than it's ever been before to throw against that
trio of plus corners.
Speaker 1 (43:52):
Yeah, I'll be honest with you, I had forgotten about
that deal. I mean, I remember when it happened.
Speaker 2 (43:57):
Overall pick in the draft get fourth overall pick gets moved,
even doesn't even blip on your radar.
Speaker 1 (44:02):
Yeah, well Stingley was drafted right ahead of him, and
they haven't moved him. I'm just poking fun. But they
both got extensions. They did, and one of them will
get paid that extension in another city from the team
that drafted him. That's how much they thought of him. Well,
only one of them drafted CJ and will also. That's true.
Over that, it does tend to help your cause. But uh, look,
(44:24):
I he's so far down the list of concerns. Crazily enough,
I just when I think of the Indianapolis Colts, and
this is also crazy, I don't think about their defense
until I get to like nine ten on a list.
I'm just stop Johnson Taylor's the first five items of priority.
(44:46):
And then, crazily enough, like I said, Daniel Jones and
how he can hurt you in this offense, which you
have correctly given credit to Shane Steichen all season long
for the reason that Daniel Jones came over from the
Giants not hard but supplanted the starter that was there
in Indianapolis, but more importantly has them out to one
(45:08):
of the best records in the AFC. A couple of
things on Jones. We haven't mentioned this either.
Speaker 2 (45:12):
I don't think people even remember this because it happened
so late in the season, was not even noteworthy at
the time. We've talked about Minnesota's quarterback situation so much
because they chose to go in a different direction from
Sam Donald obviously had tons of faith in JJ McCarthy,
both drafting him and then deciding to go this direction.
You know who was playing football there in Minnesota last
(45:33):
year and into the playoffs, well, he was on the roster,
Daniel Jones. The last team he played for before Indianapolis,
Sam Donald. They added him late in the season and
then they activated him, so he was on the active
roster late in the season just in case, obviously had
they gone far and done things. This is just somebody
that they thought could help them, and then he had
(45:54):
an I think they were interested in having him back
in place of Donald on the roster as a fallback
option to JJ McCarthy, and he chose a better option,
I think, very clearly a better option. Would you rather
compete with somebody they've drafted and hasn't played yet that
they believe in, or would you rather go compete with
(46:15):
Shane Steichen against Anthony Richardson who's played two years while injured,
but two years of bad football. You're going to beat
him out if you have any kind of confidence, and
you can kind of sense that the Colts are bringing
you in to give you that opportunity, as opposed to
Minnesota keeping you there where the competition might not have
been an even chance to win the job because they
believe so much of McCarthy. The Colts have already shown
(46:37):
numerous times before jones arrival they had reason to not.
So it's worked out tremendously well. I do think Shane
needs to get credit for it, But I do think
the other obvious part of why Daniel Jones is doing
what he's doing is the same thing, same reason why
he did what he did for that one magical ish
season in New York. He had Saquon Barkley, he had
(46:58):
a healthy Saquon Barkley. Defenses don't game plan for Daniel
Jones when Saquon Barkley's in the backfield. Defenses don't game
plan for Daniel Jones when Jonathan Taylor's in the backfield.
Both of them at those times had good enough offensive
lines that you were gonna get protection and you were
gonna run the football. This last game, where the Chiefs
slowed down Jonathan Taylor, where he wasn't gaining those short
(47:19):
yardage that would have given him first downs, where he
wasn't having those five yard runs where he bursts through
it all and gets a sixty yard run. They also
didn't sack Daniel Jones, they didn't turn the Colts over,
and they still held them to twenty points.
Speaker 1 (47:35):
Which tells me that the Texans defense, which is vastly
superior to the Chiefs by the way, that was the
case a year ago two. In case you were wondering,
Chiefs defense was better last year than they are this year.
But they weren't better than the Texans last year, not
better than this year's Texans. I think last year's Texans
defense was better than last year's chief Chiefs defense at
(47:56):
full strength. Obviously when they finally played each other, Petrie
was was he hurt in that game or was he
already out?
Speaker 2 (48:01):
Well, again, you could pick one game out. It's not
relative either they are they aren't. I mean, you're not
playing You're playing Pat Mahomes, They're playing CJ. Stroud's offense.
I mean that's a small sample size.
Speaker 1 (48:11):
Yeah, like Jalen Petrie wasn't out there for the Buffalo game,
and I wouldn't say that anybody necessarily missed him right then.
Speaker 2 (48:17):
Like I said, I'm just comparing last year's defense. Is
Kansas City's defense was very good, borderline top five defense,
and the Texans was close. I mean, I just I
think Kansas did had a better defense than Houston did
last year.
Speaker 1 (48:28):
I think Kansas City's defense last year was a much
bigger reason for why they wound up with the record
they did. But everybody gave the credit to the other
side of the football because of who plays quarterback there.
Speaker 2 (48:38):
Yeah, they were third last year in scoring defense in
the AFC.
Speaker 1 (48:42):
The Texans were seventh. That's nonsense. It's just a fact.
I don't believe that. I think you're lying.
Speaker 2 (48:49):
Not lying, it's not. It's by no means any That's
not the only measure of a defense. That not even close. Yeah,
but it's also not relevant. It's twenty twenty five. The
Texans defense has. Every week they play, they're trying to
prove it, which is awesome that we are. We do have.
This is the best defense in the NFL. And you know,
statistically speaking, when when you fall off in one area,
(49:12):
they fell off by allowing nineteen points. Now they're number
two in scoring defense. They're not number one in forcing takeaways.
Yet they're getting closer and closer by the week. They're
things they can do better. They've gotten a little bit
better in the red zone. It still would be nice
if they stopped anybody in a goal to go situation.
They're still over the season. If your goal to go
(49:32):
against the Texans defense, you've scored a touchdown every time.
Speaker 1 (49:35):
I hate that. By the way, I probably shouldn't argue
that point about last season, since even if it were
the case in the regular season, once they got to
the postseason, that same defense decided to just leave Travis
Kelsey alone on an island all day long while he
racked up catches and yardage and touchdowns like it was
four years earlier.
Speaker 2 (49:53):
And that was against one of the three Texans defenders
Kaylon Bullock, Daniil Hunter and Will Anderson Junior that did
not get name to AFC Defensive Player of the Week
this week.
Speaker 1 (50:02):
Who did three sack Garrett too, fumble forced Garrett? Who
are they playing again? They were playing Geno Smith? Exactly.
What do you think the Texans are going to do
to the Raiders? They're going to make thee I'll take
the child's play. I'll take the under on ten seriousness,
They're playing the Raiders in what three weeks at home? Oh,
(50:24):
he's gonna die Gino Smith's I.
Speaker 2 (50:27):
Think there's a chance they'll be playing Aidan O'Connell because
he'll all have already died. No, because they will have said,
this is kind of dumb. I know we're paying him
all this money.
Speaker 1 (50:37):
Isn't that worse for him? It's gift course, if it's
better for him physically. No, no, no, I'm talking about
their backup. I mean he's terrible too, but I'm just
making a point. I think they will almost inevitably have
to make a quarterback change. Sometimes your team chemistry has
to have it. I think it happened in New York
when they chose Jamis Winston over Russell Wilson. Russell Wilson's
(51:00):
with the backup all year. I mean, you don't get
a lot of reps, but he's getting the backup reps.
After he was supplanted as the starter, he was number one.
James has been number three the entire season. He moved
up to number two when Dart was concussed, and then
they just said, well, we can't start Russell. He's awful,
and our locker room would be like, I want to
try to win, Please allow us to have a chance
(51:22):
by not playing Russell Wilson. At some point the Raiders'
locker room is going to feel the same way. And
it's not all on Geno by any means. Their team
is very good, but he's playing bad football. It's crazy too,
because he looked like he had resuscitated his career in Seattle.
Speaker 2 (51:38):
He got paid twice this last contract and the one
he got before it, because you're right, he did. He
played well enough, he earned it. These weren't mistakes. Maybe
it was Jip Burley's fault. Well, he has been currently,
he has been scapegoaded. One note on Chip Kelly that
I'll say for the other side. It's a good one though.
If you haven't heard, this will make you think twice
(51:58):
about a legend. When we come back. Is Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
Among the many superstar brainy acts out there that we'll
be hearing from later today on this program, Jake, Paul,
Alex Rodriguez, and Lee Corso.
Speaker 1 (52:16):
But don't lump him in with those two. Lee, I mean,
he's highly respected and retired, but highly respected, highly respected,
well liked.
Speaker 2 (52:26):
The first two neither Ay runs retired, not well liked.
We'll hear from all of them coming up later on
the show. Somebody who's very well liked, very retired, and
very much in charge of a lot of different things
does not look very good when it comes to the OC.
We're just talking about getting fired. A mean, I know
(52:49):
Mark Davis owns the team, and I know Pete Carroll's
the head coach of the team. But we all know
Tom Brady runs the Raiders. We don't know Tom Brady's
influence on the Raiders since he became part of the
ownership group. It's very, very involved, very heavy handed. I
don't know what does Tom think we should do this.
Let's find out what Tom thinks. I don't know about this.
(53:12):
Let's check with Tom. Ask Tom. I have no doubt
that is happening there, and in this particular situation. It's
being reported that he was very influential in bringing chip
Kelly there, a big advocate for bringing chip Kelly there.
Chip Kelly lasted less than one season before the coach,
who was in his first season, said we can't have
(53:33):
this anymore. Well, this isn't working. This is so bad
that he can't stay here anymore. He just can't be here.
And this is a Brady influenced addition to the organization.
We talk about things like this all the time, and
by this I mean Phil Jackson going from head basketball
(53:53):
coach to person in charge of the organization. Absolute epic
fail once moved into that role.
Speaker 1 (54:00):
Ex.
Speaker 2 (54:00):
Players moving into coaching roles or executive roles and failing spectacularly.
Speaker 1 (54:06):
It's happened many times before.
Speaker 2 (54:07):
I feel like Hill's best player like more players, or
there have been more failures than successes. Phil's best player
was Kobe right. Nope, Phil's best player was Shack.
Speaker 1 (54:18):
Nope.
Speaker 2 (54:19):
Phil's best player was Michael Yes, yeah, Michael Jordan as
the owner of where they weren't saying, I don't know,
should we let's ask Michael.
Speaker 1 (54:30):
They didn't have to.
Speaker 2 (54:31):
He was much more the owner of the Hornets than
obviously Tom Brady is of the Raiders. So yes, that
was a very unsuccessful run when it comes to winning, losing,
and I don't know, becoming a well respected franchise.
Speaker 1 (54:45):
Was it not a very good time. One of the
most underrated lines in the entire series of Entourage was
when Ari said I didn't go to the game because
they were playing the bleeping Bobcats, and that's why I
had front row seats at the forum, I guess or no, yeah,
there's Staples was down. That was two thousand ninety nine. Technically,
he was yelling at his wife and said he didn't
(55:07):
go to the game because the Bob Gots are in
town better than him yelling at Dana Gordon.
Speaker 2 (55:11):
Well, yelling at him on camera because we never saw
the other stuff that he would have been yelling at
her for.
Speaker 1 (55:16):
Where was it again, Cabo?
Speaker 2 (55:18):
Yeah, okay, not that anybody outside the NFL is going
to care negatively. Guys around the rest of the league
will probably care positively, like, oh my god, anything Tom
Brady touches, what's definitely going to turn to gold.
Speaker 1 (55:34):
Well, maybe not if it's a football and he's throwing it. Otherwise, No,
depends how inflated it is. But this is it's it's
part of the reasoning I have behind it's over. If
I'm in charge and you're telling me I should consider
Bill Belichick, No thanks. He had a nice run. He
was supremely successful. He's going to go down in history
(55:57):
as one of the greatest of all time to do
what you asked him to do coach the football team.
That time has passed.
Speaker 2 (56:04):
Tom Brady being a great NFL football player and running
a very successful apparel line, performance supplement company and everything
else he's done great. So he can run an NFL franchise,
maybe maybe not. Yeah, I don't think that.
Speaker 1 (56:21):
If he wants to be a minority minority owner of
some sort and not have it be a conflict of interest,
i e. Do they even assign him games that Raiders
are playing?
Speaker 2 (56:33):
They can't, right, Well, they assigned him to be the
number one team on Fox, right.
Speaker 1 (56:38):
So they won't have to worry about that exactly. But
what if a really good team plays the Raiders. We're
putting the B team on that one.
Speaker 2 (56:44):
How is the if a really good team plays the Raiders,
like say the Colts, they wouldn't want their A team
to do a forty to six blowout.
Speaker 1 (56:52):
Why if they're the A team you know should be
able to make it entertaining? That's not Yeah, you're right,
that's a good point. But I just cause you're you can't.
Speaker 2 (57:00):
For the announcers, as I've said many many times, like
are you You were probably gonna do something else Sunday
at noon rather than watch Texans Colts. But then you
found out Iron Eagle and JJ Watt were doing the game.
Speaker 1 (57:14):
So now you're in? Is that the team? Yeah? Oh
they're so winning. Now JJ doesn't lose. JJ doesn't play
the Texans do when he does the games, and they
don't lose when he does them. That is a truth comment.
If he does that game, then how fast is Hannah
gonna get on the phone to say, Uh, you better
send that crew to Kansas City this week.
Speaker 2 (57:37):
Well, they can send him to Kansas City, but then
he'd have to get a new job.
Speaker 1 (57:41):
Why, hey, NBC, would you like to hire me for
one night? Oh that's right, it is a Sunday night game.
I forgot about that little aspect.
Speaker 2 (57:46):
I don't know any will broadcast their last two games
because they're not on the schedule yet. They'll play the
Chargers on the road, they'll play the Colts at home,
but those games haven't been set in terms of time
or network. But they only have one other CBS game
after Sunday, and that's the Raiders game.
Speaker 1 (58:03):
Crowd outperforms Justin Herbert in that game in Los Angeles.
Believe it or not. Believe it.
Speaker 2 (58:12):
It's a lot easier to complete passes against the Chargers
defense than the Texans.
Speaker 1 (58:17):
It's not a It's funny because they one has nothing
to do with the other, even though I have put
them in this fake competition that is only going on
in my head. But yeah, if he speaking of last season,
if if Justin Herbert enjoyed last year's playoff loss in Houston,
(58:39):
Oh my gosh, he didn't though, Well, he's gonna love
this year's regular season trouncing at home in Los Angeles
because that defense is going to feast on him.
Speaker 2 (58:52):
Still, they're probably one of the teams that are a
little bit difficult to figure. They started the year with
two verysive wins and or victory over the Raiders.
Speaker 1 (59:02):
They beat the Chiefs, they beat the Broncos.
Speaker 2 (59:03):
Both those games were in LA, but there were three
and oh, and then they lost to the Giants and Commanders.
Commanders had Jaden Daniels at the time. Their wins since then,
since those first three games, they barely beat the Dolphins,
they clobbered the bad Vikings, they beat the Titans by
a touchdown, and they beat the Steelers. And in that
(59:24):
same time, like I said, they've lost to the Giants, Commanders,
Colts and got absolutely embarrassed by Trevor Lawrence's Jaguars. And
that's their most recent game. So we kind of you
don't always do it this way. Well, we were looking
at the Bills when the Texans got to them and
where they were and how they started versus who they are.
Chargers are the same Bills started the year four and oh,
(59:45):
they're three and four cents. Chargers started the year three
and oh they're four and four cents. That's half a
season of average football.
Speaker 1 (59:54):
And yet if you were to put Justin Herbert's numbers
side by side with CJ. Strouds this season, everybody'd be like, see,
his numbers are not great. They're a little bit better
than CJ's this year, but they're not great because CJS
has been CJ, by and large, has not been good
this year for a variety of reasons. I think that
has more to do with that comparison being what it
is versus anything that's not gone right for Justin Herbert.
Speaker 2 (01:00:17):
I think you get the same answer for both of them.
Had offensive line issues. Both of his tackles have been
hurt now have missed most of the year. They had
major running back issues, tons of injuries. They probably get
o'maryon Hampton back this week, but that's not a given.
Speaker 1 (01:00:30):
I hope so for the purposes of my fantasy team.
So what you're saying is that when those factors are
at play, it's harder to be successful at quarterback. That's
interesting when you're putting your stupid preseason lists together. It's
not an unknown people know that. I just think that again.
I had a conversation with somebody we both know earlier
today about this upcoming game, and he was saying the
(01:00:52):
same thing that a lot of people have been saying that.
He said, you know, I think watching this stretch with
Davis Mills at quarterback while CJ has been out has
exposed a few things. And one of those things was
that And we already knew this about CJ, but cheese,
he holds onto the ball too long sometimes, and that's CJ.
(01:01:13):
That's not the line. It's none of that because if
you hold onto the ball too long, then that's not
You can't then turn around and blame the offensive line
for not giving you enough time. You're holding on to
it too long for any offensive line to protect you.
It's just the way that the pocket works in the
NFL for any quarterback. You have the best offensive line
of all time, but if you hold onto that ball
(01:01:34):
long enough, eventually somebody is going to find you.
Speaker 2 (01:01:37):
Definitely impacts the pressures and sack numbers to a certain degree.
Definitely the sack number, But he's also talented enough you're like, absolutely,
go to your second and third progression, take a little
extra time you can make the throw. Davis, get rid
of the ball as soon as possible, please, and don't
throw it so erratically.
Speaker 1 (01:01:56):
When you do, try to find guys that are wide
open for touchdowns, because then they won't catch them and
you won't score and you'll have to have it go
down to the wire like it did on Thursday night.
We will continue to discuss this matchup. There's a lot
to get to and only a few more hours left
in our show to do just that before we call
it a week. It is Thanksgiving Eve, of course, so
(01:02:17):
we'll do that. And yeah, as wex mentioned, you will
hear from the aforementioned Lee Corso amongst others. It's an
eclectic cast and crew that we're gonna hear from this
hour before we get to James Boyd at the top
of the hour to talk about this Colts matchup here
on the eighteen. To take sure we're wondering what it
sounded like today when Damiko Ryans addressed the CJ. Stroud
(01:02:40):
Jalen Petrie situation, it sounded like this.
Speaker 8 (01:02:43):
Each guy has their own steps of what they have
to pass. You know, it's a lot of different steps
and each guy is different when it comes to the
symptoms that they're having and what they're feeling.
Speaker 6 (01:02:53):
So whatever they report.
Speaker 8 (01:02:55):
That they're feeling like, we're gonna take that to heart
and make sure we're taking extra caution with the guys
whenever it's a concussion issues. So right now, as we
stand today, they're still in a concussion protocol.
Speaker 1 (01:03:08):
I don't like the sound of that.
Speaker 2 (01:03:09):
Well, he was asked a question about the protocol more
than c. J. Stroud and Jalen Petrie. They were included
in Aaron's question. Aaron Wilson happened to be the one
who asked that very first question, but he talked about
as he was asking about the steps needed and how
players are different, and that's why Demiko answered in that way,
and then ultimately at the end said, as we stand
here today, they're still in concussion protocol. Like I said,
(01:03:30):
I don't think you they're lumped together because it happened
at the same time. I don't think their course of
passing through concussion protocol has necessarily taken all the same
turns and up the same progress. But I still feel
confident saying, which is obviously a speculative guess that C. J.
Stroud will clear the concussion protocol and we'll start on Sunday.
Speaker 1 (01:03:53):
Well, when he does start, because now you've said it,
so it's happening. So if it doesn't happen, it's your fault.
It's been my fault each of the times I've said it.
All right, when that does happen, he's obviously going to
be going up against a Colts defense that will be
without one of its more significant pass rushing contributors. We've
been talking about Buckner missing this game all week. Yeah,
(01:04:16):
he's going to have to be aware of Sauce Gardner
and company. But that does upfront. From an upfront standpoint,
I should say probably help matters. But as it pertains
to scouting the Colts defense, Nick Cassaro, after giving us
a rundown of the offensive roster earlier, I'm guessing he
will name every starting member of the Colts defense right here.
Speaker 4 (01:04:39):
Let's see, defensively, it's schematically some changes, there's some carryover
at the front relative that or personnel. Let's say without Buckner,
I mean, he has a big impact, but I mean
i'd say Grover Stewart's probably as formidable as a run
player as is still in the league. They're really strong
with the middle.
Speaker 1 (01:04:54):
Grover and Anzire.
Speaker 4 (01:04:55):
Franklin is really he's likely and tackles or been among
the top two league, you know, one hundred and fifty
hundred and sixty tackles, you know, over the last however
many years. And then Nick Cross as well, so they're
strong up the middle. They added Pratt who played for
coach and Rumo in Cincinnati, and he's kind of made
a seamless transition. And then they kind of overhauled their
secondary honestly, other than Cross, I mean, and Kenny Moore,
(01:05:17):
I mean at three or four new players so signed
and buying them in free agency is safety who gives
them a very formidable veteran presence back there. Before they
traded for Gardener, they signed to various war in free agency,
but then they traded for Gardener. And then Kenny Moore
has his role on the slot, so it's really good secondary.
And then on the edge they kind of roll multiple
players through there. He got Quitty pay he's been there
(01:05:37):
for a number of years now a lot too. He's
kind of coming on. Talk about a young player that's improving,
you know. And then Lewis and that you can give
him some some depth there on the edge.
Speaker 1 (01:05:46):
Did he get them all?
Speaker 2 (01:05:47):
He got most of them, but he did actually have
a few interesting things to say specific Glen Grover. Stewart
gets talked about so little for how good he is,
and he's played very well against the Texans in the past,
and I'm expect him to play very well again here
in this game. And he's playing against what would maybe
it's gotten a little better because Howard and Ingram are
now on the interior with Jake Andrews, but that would
be a weak spot for the Texans quite clearly, somewhere
(01:06:09):
on the interior of their line.
Speaker 1 (01:06:10):
Maybe it'll be.
Speaker 2 (01:06:11):
A little bit more equipped because those players are there,
But Stuart is a lot Stuart might be the number
one thing you want to focus on with who they
have this week from an offensive game plan standpoint, is
trying to neutralize him to a certain degree. Law Two's
obviously someone I mentioned the other day. Six sacks off
the edge and the interception last week off of Mahomes
(01:06:32):
and the additions that they made in the off season
and then during the season with Sauce, I didn't know
how well they would take to this and how things
will work out with lou there. They've worked out tremendously well.
So ninety one plays, that's how many plays the Chiefs
offense ran. One of the reasons why Jermaine Pratt had
(01:06:53):
twenty tackles last week he mentioned Zier Franklin, who's been
among the league leaders and tackles for the last several years. Well,
the other linebacker, one of the other linebackers, Jermaine Pratt
had twenty tackles. Yeah, that's like saying, hey, he led
the Texans and tackles last year. Did he play linebacker?
That was the first couple of years, Jamie Sharper, Jay Foreman,
(01:07:13):
you better believe they're gonna lead.
Speaker 1 (01:07:14):
They're gonna lead the league in tackles. And then Brian
Cushing did the same thing. Well, they were better defensively
by then. Well by then, Brooks read short lived but
awesome dominant perform It was okay, just said, really nice hair.
I think he was better than okay for at least
one of those years. No, he was really good. The
second round pick. Yeah, they didn't make a lot of
(01:07:37):
bad picks on that side of the ball back then.
How about now, No, I'm not I'm not trying to
compare well. I mean, let's give him credit for what
they've done with this group. You know what's funny is
anytime you talk about, okay, is there a conversation about
this being the best Texans defensive unit in the history
of the franchise, And there have been a lot, including
(01:07:59):
their first first year where they had two Pro Bowlers
Aaron Glenning, Gary Walker. I believe anytime you have to
say that, now you have to obviously factor in the
fact that one of the guys that's calling the game
this weekend is not a part of it, and that
just seems like sacrilege. But life does go on after
(01:08:19):
JJ Watt on the Texans defense, and it's probably the
highest compliment you could pay that unit that you're not
constantly comparing them to JJ. You don't hear that You
notice that all these sacks they're getting this year and
this tandem of pass rushers, I very rarely hear. Oh yeah,
this is like when JJ was on. It's they've forged
(01:08:42):
their own existence, their own reputation, their own brand, if
you will, And that's as high a compliment you could
pay this defense as anything. Talking about the actual.
Speaker 2 (01:08:52):
Numbers, yeah, I'm not sure that i'd be able to
hear a debate, because I think very strongly this is
the best defense they've ever had to see out over yet.
So maybe things will change and they'll fall or it
won't be quite as awesome. They've had one season where
they finished top five in yards allowed and points allowed
in history one time, and they're first and second in
(01:09:14):
yards and points respectively currently.
Speaker 1 (01:09:17):
This year was that eleven? Yes, it was a left
Why I.
Speaker 2 (01:09:20):
Didn't give the year because I knew you would know
it immediately, because that's what you do.
Speaker 1 (01:09:23):
Was it really?
Speaker 6 (01:09:24):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (01:09:26):
I don't know how I do it.
Speaker 2 (01:09:27):
Yeah, they finished fourth in points and second in yards,
and I remember them, and obviously you remember them, and
they were very good.
Speaker 1 (01:09:34):
Do you know why they remember? Just weren't as good
as this defense? You know why it's so memorable because
they were one of the worst in the league Kareem's
rookie year the year prior. That's part of what got
on JJ and W. I don't know where you come
up with that. You think twenty ninth and thirtieth is worst? Yes?
Do you any other reasoning or logic behind that? Those
(01:09:54):
other than the Levey Cully years? That's about as bad
as it ever was. Defense the last doms last year,
they were they were like that, I wish I could.
I wish I wasn't connected to this console by a
cord so that I could do an impression of Kareem
his rookie year. I can tell you this, I wouldn't
need to look back at the emerge imaginary football that
(01:10:16):
was coming up behind me because he never did. Yeah,
and then turn your head.
Speaker 2 (01:10:19):
Give him some credit for just kind of taking it,
because the defense and the coaching staff they did him
no favors. You're a rookie. We think you're really good.
Go okay, I got burned a bunch of times. Yeah,
go back out there. We're gonna watch it more of it.
We're not gonna help you. We're not gonna do things
a little differently. We're not gonna betch you either.
Speaker 1 (01:10:38):
They went out there and figured this is gonna be
good for him, and he's gonna get better, and he did.
And Yeah, five years later, ten years later, and thirteen
years later, he's still in the league. Yeah, and playing
a very good football pretty much every year after that
year on social media and being polite about it and
being a guest on the show during that time period.
We took a picture together where I had my phone
(01:10:59):
up saying, here he is, he's still blocking me, rienboy.
Speaker 2 (01:11:01):
Tey defense in Texans history. I think the thing that
the kids would then say if they were me, best
defense in Texans history?
Speaker 1 (01:11:08):
Fight me? Is that right? Or argue with a wall?
Argue with a wall? As we hit the.
Speaker 9 (01:11:13):
Break eighteen, Rolling along here on a Wednesday before Thanksgiving,
Sports Talk seventy nine, he's Space City on network wexac
Josh Jordan with you to take it until six o'clock tonight.
Speaker 1 (01:11:25):
You heard the uh news Demiko Ryan's saying that CJ
and Jalen Petrie are still in concussion protocol. I guess
it's news. It's and I would say so I did. Well,
It's like it is an update, but there's it's like
no news, it's still news. I guess no new news.
I guess I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:11:43):
It's definitely news because the other news now is still
being waited on.
Speaker 7 (01:11:47):
Well.
Speaker 1 (01:11:47):
I'm upset because we're not going to be on the
air when he says he's cleared. That's the problem. If
he says they're both cleared out of the concussion protocol. Well,
because it's not going to be today okay, and we're
not working the next two days. I want to be
able to know that. I just want to start preparing
for the matchup we want to see, not start preparing.
(01:12:10):
I can't.
Speaker 2 (01:12:10):
Last week was when you should have started preparing it.
When hit the field last week to start getting into
the final steps of concussion protocol, that's when you should
have started preparing. And seeing him out and about at
multiple events should have indicated he was not suffering from
enough symptoms at all or in some capacity that was
(01:12:31):
slowing him down at this point of trying to get
through concussion protocol. Back on the field today to potentially
clear that next step. Keep in mind, they practice, then
they walk back across from that side of the complex
to the building, and then Demico talks to us not
long after.
Speaker 1 (01:12:48):
It's not like CJ. Stroud practiced. Immediately went to.
Speaker 2 (01:12:52):
The doctor's office to see if they could clear him.
He could clear today, he could clear, He could be
clear as of three p forty nine pm. Or he
could clear Friday, or he could clear or least Saturday.
I don't know, but unless something makes him go in
the other direction in the next four days, which I
do not forecast, but it certainly could happen.
Speaker 1 (01:13:13):
He's going to start and play looking forward to it.
I'm also looking forward to this segment right here because
it's something I came across that it contains at least
one name that relates to the Texans in their division.
(01:13:33):
But it's just I don't know how often you would
go to somebody like Jake Paul for a top ten
on anything.
Speaker 2 (01:13:41):
I guess you do once never, not this time. You
would never go to him for it. We didn't go
to him less, just the dummies who are going to
listen to him.
Speaker 1 (01:13:50):
I'm not even gonna play him. I'm just gonna read it.
There's no sense in putting his voice out on our show.
But as it pertains to this list, because it's very eclectic,
these are the top ten most overrated athletes. And I
think this is hilarious because I'm sure that people have
put him on lists like this, and maybe that's why
(01:14:13):
it came up. I don't know. I don't know the
context of why he was asked and all that kind
of stuff. It doesn't really matter because there's a reason
for sharing this with you. He put Babe Ruth at
number one. Let's just start right there. I've heard Babe
Ruth be called a lot of things overrated. I don't
know if that's one of them, and certainly not the
top of a top ten list. It all depends on
(01:14:34):
I guess how you look at things. Athlete. Did he
give the appearance of being athletic beyond hitting a baseball
over the fence they look at the way the fielders weren't. Yeah.
But conversely, even if he didn't look athletic, when you
realize that he was doing it while being fueled by
mass quantities of alcohol, that's pretty impressive from a physical standpoint.
(01:14:57):
Hence not athletes.
Speaker 2 (01:14:58):
He played a sport where most of the players, even
in the dark ages when he was playing, were athletes. Now,
if you're asking me to think really hard and try
to compare him to somebody that's a little bit more
modern in sports, one name only comes to mind. Sure, no, not,
(01:15:19):
And I wouldn't even I would go five billion players
before i'd get to him, or athletes or performers, name them,
five billion, go all of them. Shohey, and Babe Ruth
did one thing similarly, hit home runs. They threw the
baseball over the plate as a pitcher, and they swung
at the baseball while standing at home plate. The comparisons
end right there. The answer is John Daly. He did
(01:15:45):
things nobody else could do. He's hitting the ball farther
than anybody else. Every once in a while he could
manage to also then get it in the cup to
a level where this guy is a major winner and
he's fueled by what alcohol and die coke big So
he's been through town several times since he was at
his peak, super nic incredit like golf needs John Daily,
(01:16:10):
They absolutely I need your ship has been good both
for him and for the sport, both when he was
on the tour, the main Tour, the PGA Tour, and
the tours that he's been on since then Champions Tour,
and several times when he's come through Houston because of it,
like he is just I don't know how many lung
darts he goes through on the course, but it's a lot.
(01:16:31):
I don't know how many things he shouldn't be eating
while he's playing golf, or maybe at all he goes
through while he's playing golf, the diet cokes and whatever
else it is that is going into a system while
he's playing golf, and yet he's out there on the
course being as awesome an ambassador for why people come
to watch golf tournaments as you could possibly be.
Speaker 1 (01:16:52):
But that has nothing he really is.
Speaker 2 (01:16:55):
But you would always ask, yeah, but what if he
was clean, what if he was in shape, what if
he put more time into his craft? Could he be
even better? I don't know if that really applies to Babe,
because he was the John Daly was not the best
golfer at any point during his career. He did win
majors or a major, and did win tournaments, But Babe
(01:17:18):
Ruth was quite obviously the best player in baseball during
his time, the best player, and while teams were hitting
twenty one homers as a team, he was hitting fifty
As a player. He was so far and away doing
things like showhy would be hitting two hundred homers if
we were trying to compare their statistics to where they
were versus the rest of baseball. Overrated.
Speaker 1 (01:17:38):
Again, the term athlete almost gives you an out to
why he'd be there, But well, number two operted for
what he accomplished as a player in a sport. I
mean there's nothing overrated about it. No, but that's why
him being number one on the list is so weird.
Speaker 2 (01:17:54):
And he had a fake role in the Natural The
Whammer as a it was clear Babe Ruth who he
was portraying.
Speaker 1 (01:18:03):
Well, what about his fake role in The Sandlot as
a hologram? That too. So Number ten on this list
is British boxer Anthony Joshua. No need to spend any
more time on that. Tua Takovioloa is number nine. Hard
to again why he would be overrated. I think he's
seen for who he is now. The Dolphins might have
(01:18:26):
overrated him when they paid him, but he's a back
half of the league starting caliber quarterback and I don't
think many people debate that. Canelo Alvarez number eight, Anthony
Edwards number seven, I don't think he's overrated. I think
he's properly rated as one of the best players in
the NBA. Whatever Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, I could kind
(01:18:48):
of see where he's coming from, since he plays for
who he plays for, and if Dak has done what
he's done or not done in this case, for any
other franchise, it might not have gotten as much attention
one way or the other.
Speaker 2 (01:19:01):
But that may be true. I probably would push back
against that a little bit. I think he's played regular season.
He's been really, really, really really good. He's been for
that franchise. As he continues, he'll have them all. He
just got another one this past weekend. Yeah, bet well,
he passed. He's statistically going to have all the records
(01:19:21):
in Cowboys history for a franchise that won super Bowls
with two different quarterbacks and had Romo for a long time.
I think he's overrated because he probably maybe that's the
reason the Cowboys, but I think people just don't see
him for what he does because they have so many
playoff failures.
Speaker 1 (01:19:36):
Number five's Connor McGregor, say what you will, kind of boisterous,
comes across, you know, not not likable sometimes. Ryan Garcia
Cristiano Ronaldo are the four to three. Trevor Lawrence number
two behind the babe. That's what I wanted to get to.
That's a very very good selection on this list of
highly questionable selections. That one strong Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence overrated.
(01:20:02):
According to Jake Paul, we will have a conversation with
James Boyd, who covers the Colts for The Athletic and
as a morning host on one oh seven five The
Fan a Indianapolis. We will talk to him when we
come back back. Half of the program begins with the
four o'clock hour each and every day here on the
A team, It's Adam Wesler and Adam Clampton here with you.
Speaker 2 (01:20:23):
We've been talking Colts Texans throughout the week. Our final
show of the week is today and we travel to
Indianapolis for some insight on the Colts. James Boyd, who
joins us from the Athletic, covers the NFL on the
Colts morning show host as well one O seven point
five the Fan, James, if you'll answer me this quick
question as we get started, was this year final radio
show of the week.
Speaker 6 (01:20:44):
It is a good guests sometimes, so I just try
to come through for the guy.
Speaker 2 (01:20:47):
I apologize. I heard none of that. The mistake was
on our end. Do you have a show Thursday or
Friday this week?
Speaker 6 (01:20:54):
Yeah? No, so tomorrow or Friday get to go home
and see the family for a little bit. But I
want to come through you guys, because I know how
it is trying to get guests. This time of the week,
this time of the year, so always good to help
another radio crew out.
Speaker 1 (01:21:07):
I appreciate that very good answer.
Speaker 2 (01:21:09):
Sorry you had to say it twice, but because I
asked you that, I wanted to see if you and
your co host all major predictions this morning, and by
how much did you expect the Colts to beat the
Texans spy.
Speaker 6 (01:21:21):
Yeah, so I want to say I might have been
the only one who picked the Colts this week, but
I picked them to win twenty four to twenty. And
I really chose them because I figure, Hey, if you're
ever going to show some mental fortitude, it is now.
You've lost two of at last three. You got Houston
coming in here. We have our little playoff prediction model
over at the Athletic where it says, if the Colts
(01:21:42):
win this game, they have a seventy four percent chance
to win the AFC South. If they lose this game,
they only have a forty four percent chance of win
the AFC South. So a huge one coming up on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (01:21:51):
That's funny that you mentioned I actually reference the Athletics
playoff probabilities in terms of how high the Texans chances
rise to with a victory this week rise to sixty
three percent, they'd only be seven and five. Obviously plays
out the results of the other games, simulates those games,
so I assume the expectation is, well, they're good enough
to go on the road to beat a team that
(01:22:12):
hasn't lost any games at home, so the idea that
they could win more of their remaining games also stands out.
There is that kind of the thinking of you're getting
the Texans, likely with a return of CJ. Stroud, and
it makes it that much more difficult with when you're
catching them. They were three and five, they were zero
to three. Now they're the hard charging Texans.
Speaker 6 (01:22:33):
Absolutely, And I get some of the people around here
trying to tell me, oh, well, they've been hot with
Davis Mills and it's not gonna be the thing with TJ.
Stroud BS. I'm like, TJ. Trout has cooked you all
the last couple of few games they messed up against
each other. So I think he's gonna be a huge
addition to that lineup being healthy, and the Nico Collins
has been a terror for this team to kind of
(01:22:55):
try to contain over the last few matchups. And then
the last thing I'll look at is and Will Anderson Junior.
This defense number two scoring defense in the NFL. Theyreak
havoc and for a Colts offense, that is kind of
an off kilter for Daniel Jones who's dealing with a
fibula injury, those are factors you have to consider. So
I certainly think that if the Colts again are going
(01:23:15):
to show some backbone, the time is now. But also
Houston has to feel like this is our opportunity to
go out there and take what's ours.
Speaker 1 (01:23:24):
I can't think of anything worse, James than dealing with
a fibula injury and having to play Will Anderson Junior
and Danielle Hunter.
Speaker 6 (01:23:33):
Oh absolutely, man. We're trying to, you know, get some
information out of Daniel to day, and of course he
was iron plaid on that front. But the weird part
about it, you all is Daniel Jones was not on
the injury report ever until last Thursday. So even at
the beginning of last week he was fine, full participant
in practice. Thursday's injury pops up and we're like, okay,
(01:23:53):
that's a little if it's a little weird, Like, what
can you do to a fibil level besides to crack
it or break it, you know, we don't do since
the injury at all, but we kind of didn't think
too much of it. And then saw his performance against
Kansas City, and now a lot of that had to
do with the pressure they put on them and him
misses some throws when he had to run, his gait
was noticeably off. So I wonder if that would be
(01:24:14):
a factor ring forward when you face teams like Houston,
which they've been very great, you know, with their front seven,
and if they bring more pressure. He struggled against the
Blitz as of Lake, are you able to get out
of it? Can you be mobile or will you be
limited because of the cipil injuries?
Speaker 1 (01:24:27):
James, what's it been like there? Because it's always fascinating,
you know, the most popular guy on the roster is
always the backup quarterback. But that's not how this went down.
And I don't think I mean, if you pulled one
hundred NFL followers, die hard, casual, what have you? All
points in between? No one, I don't think would have
ever predicted that Daniel Jones would have the type of
(01:24:48):
season he's had and that the Colts are having the
type of season they've had. But it's not just that
there's layers to this, like the Anthony Richardson situation. What's
it been like covering a team like this and and
all of a sudden, Daniel Jones is leading it to
perhaps a division championship.
Speaker 6 (01:25:05):
Well, I'm used to chaos and things not making too
much sense. My first year on the beat with twenty
twenty two, when they hired Jeff saturday Off an ESPN said,
and I was like, my goodness, is my welcome to
the NFL moment? Right? Actually, my first game I ever
recovered in the NFL was the tie in twenty twenty
two between the Texans and the Cold So I should
have known from then it'll get weird. So it's been
a weird year from this standpoint of we knew Anthony
(01:25:29):
Richardson was gonna be in a QB competition, and when
they chose Daniel Jones, oh okay, I kind of get it.
Anthony struggled a lot, He's had injury history, He's not
accurate all the above. But Daniel is a guy who
was twenty games under five hundred with the Giants and
was coming off, you know, being kicked out of that franchise.
And shifted away, And so I thought, if they were
gonna have a winning record, let alone be eight and three,
(01:25:52):
it would be because they're kind of using him as
like a game manager. He's you know, running the ball
a little bit, a little rpo action, those types of things,
you know, rum pass option. But now you know, at
least early on in the year, they were just utilizing
him as just a dropback passer and he was cooking.
But as of late, he's come back down to earth,
and even then, despite all of the kind of issues
(01:26:12):
that's kind of popped up recently, it's still as remarkable.
And no nobody here in Indianapols would have predicted that
he will be eighty three. A lot of people were
mad that they didn't stick with Anthony Urchis him because
he's a number four pick a couple of years ago.
But now he's like an afterthrow. Actually he's on ir
you know, dude on an eye injury. He had a
freak accident during Wahm's back in week six and hasn't
been available since, and no one's even talked about it.
(01:26:33):
And I guess the biggest inflection point I can tell
you is after Daniel Jones had five turnovers against the
Pittsburgh Steelers. None of us on the beat even ass
are you changing quarterbacks? And that to me was the
biggest indicator of this guy is their future quarterback. And
this guy has earned the title of being QB one.
Speaker 2 (01:26:51):
James Boyd from the Athletic and one those seven five
the fans there in Indianapolis joining us here on Sports
Talk seven to ninety. All that being said about Daniel
Jones and his excellency is this season thus far? Is
that not still the game plan though? For any team,
make Daniel Jones beat you by attempting to stop Jonathan Taylor.
Speaker 6 (01:27:10):
Absolutely, their most important player is Daniel Jones, But their
best player, skill disession player is Jonathan Taylor. Always his
skill position. Because the left guard Quentin Nelson's probably on
the Hall of Fame Trajectory's made the Pro Bowl every
year his career. YadA, YadA, YadA. But JT is having
a monster season. And I do think to a certain extent,
if you have to ask teams right now pick your poison,
(01:27:31):
JT or DJ, You're going with Daniel Jones. You're choosing
him to kind of prove you wrong. In a sentence
to kind of rewrite his career, and as of late
that has not been the case. He was playing at
a top five QB level early in the season, all
the stats backed it up, but he's tapered offtins. Then
he's looked like the old Daniel Jones the last few weeks.
And so I look at Houston and they're probably thinking,
(01:27:52):
all we have to do is trust our run defense.
It's top five in the league so far as as
far as average you know, rushing yards per game. They've
given up. You know that they've been very stout in
that department. How do we stack the box make sure
that JT doesn't beat us with a home run run?
And how do we force Daniel Jones to beat us?
And if that's the case, we'll live with that. In
so far the last couple of outings, most teams that
(01:28:14):
have been good with that, you know, they lost to
their last three. They could have lost that game, you know,
in Berlin against Atlanta if it weren't for JT going off.
So I think Houston is looking at this like, look,
don't let JT get you know, two hundred yards and
we should be able to walk in there and won
a huge game and then put ourselves in driver's to
win the division.
Speaker 2 (01:28:33):
You brought up Nico Collins, and I don't think people
realize just how phenomenal he's been against the Colts these
last couple of seasons, last three games against them, averaging
one hundred and fifty two yards receiving. The Colts obviously
made a pretty significant move at the deadline. They just
haven't seen a whole lot of field time together for
different reasons. But having Ward and More and Sauce Gardner
on the field together, is this something not by design
(01:28:55):
but obviously as partial to what could be the result.
They need that those guys out there to stop guys
like Nico Collins.
Speaker 6 (01:29:03):
Oh absolutely. I'm thinking back to week four when they're
starting cornerback. At least one of them on the outside
was Xavin Howard and he got barbecued by Pooka Nicol
And then he retired a couple of days later, and
I know he put on a post and he was
talking about, you know, hey, God and family and all
that and no disrespect him. I was thinking, hey, God,
might have you know came knocking it those few minutes
(01:29:24):
earlier than you expected. After he went against poking the
cool who left Jesus against you, so and all that
in mind, I was thinking, if you go up against
Nico Collins, that would be the same type of matchup,
the same type of outcome. So it's certainly a huge
upgrade night and day from where they were earlier in
the year. But even then, I still would not match
up Sauce or Severi's award one on one with Nico.
(01:29:44):
I think that Nico is when he's healthy, he's one
of the best wide receivers in the league. The evidence
is backed it up the last few matchups, and they
always trolled me here, you guys, because I'm a big
Nico Collins fan, just a fan of the football and
how he plays it. He's a physical dude, He's a dog,
and I think that he is somebody who can be
a game changer. So yeah, a lot of attension will
go his way, and it only helps to have saut
(01:30:04):
Gardner at your disposal. But do not put him on
an island one on one, because I still think Nko
has the upper hand in that regard.
Speaker 1 (01:30:10):
What do you think ultimately, I mean, we're sitting here
the day before Thanksgiving, what do you ultimately think happens
in the AFC South and that has to include the
stupid Jacksonville Jaguars.
Speaker 6 (01:30:23):
Yeah, I think a lot of it comes down to,
you know, a lot of huge division opponents matchups. If
the Coats of the last six games for them are
against division opponents, they will got two games against Houston,
two games against the Jaguars, the pesky Jaguars. That is
so I would still again based off the start of
the season how things have gone so far. Put the
(01:30:43):
Colts are atop the total poll and say that they
can get it done win their first division titles in
twenty fourteen. But boy, they have gotten no help since
the last few weeks that kind of unfolded. I mean,
they left Berlin a few weeks ago number one seed
the AFC, and since then literally everything that they needed
to happen to help them has not happened. So I'm
very curiously how takes out, guys. It makes for a
(01:31:05):
lot of fun matchups coming down the stretch here, and
to me, it already feels like the playoff atmosphere. And
you know, even though the playoffs what is six weeks away,
over a month away, it feels like for you know, Houston,
for the Colts for the Jaguars, and was trying to
get in there and making sure you're not, you know,
a wild card and making sure you're not, you know,
putting yourself at risk of missing the plaoffs entirely. You
want to go out there whin the division and it's
(01:31:26):
very much upper grabbed here.
Speaker 2 (01:31:27):
Yes, these six and five Texans the only team remaining
on the Colts schedule that's not currently inside the playoff picture. James,
we truly appreciate your assistance this afternoon. Have a wonderful
Thanksgiving and enjoy the game on Sunday.
Speaker 6 (01:31:40):
Same of you, all guys. Have a good one.
Speaker 2 (01:31:42):
James Woyd joining us here on the A team, we
will have a little reaction to what he said on
the other side here on the A team.
Speaker 1 (01:31:49):
Sorry, I meant to ask and you might know the
answer to this, he said, talking about James Boyd who
just joined us. He covers the Colts for the Athletic
He's also a morning host on a one oh seven
to five The Fan. He said he was the only
member of their staff he thought to pick the Colts.
Speaker 2 (01:32:08):
He hosts the show with two other people, so they
picked the other team and he picked that team, But
I did.
Speaker 1 (01:32:14):
I understood what he was attempting to say from his reasoning,
you know, if you're gonna step up, now's the time
to do it. But that doesn't to me. That just
says that's what you hope will happen, not what you
think is gonna happen. And here's why. I mean.
Speaker 2 (01:32:30):
I do think they play better at home. I think
that established that earlier. They're undefeated at home, even though
I'd like to say they're five and oho. These six
comes from a game played in another stadium in another country,
technically a home game, but it's irrelevant. They've won all
five of their home games. One of them should have
been a loss, and that was too a good team.
The only good team that's come to visit this is
a good team, so they really haven't seen a whole
lot of good football teams come into their building. I
(01:32:52):
am pretty curious to see if the Texans and their offense,
no matter how things have gone so far this year,
are a to do what we discussed with James again.
Three of the top nine receiving games in Nico Collins's
career have come against the Indianapolis Colts. The best game
he's ever had has come against the Indianapolis Colts. Big
(01:33:13):
plays have been routine. As he put against the Indianapolis Colts,
he absolutely has. And it does seem like they made
some adjustments to their roster. They obviously are bad against
everybody in the secondary to some degree, and that's why
you make changes. It's not quite like an NBA team
specifically outfitting their entire roster to try to beat the
(01:33:33):
Warriors or maybe the thunder currently. But yes, this one receiver,
considering he's in your division and now is paired with CJ. Stroud,
Guess what if Nico Collins has cooked you three times
in the last two years.
Speaker 1 (01:33:48):
CJ. Stroud's played well against you also in those same instances,
because one is not gonna happen without the other. And
he's right on that, and that's the other part of
trying to get the offense back and rolling. Quite honestly,
in years past, they haven't seen this year's Colts team.
They have a new DC. I already mentioned. They're a
little bit better than people think. They have the same
number of sacks as the Texans do, and they're probably
(01:34:10):
regarded as right there on the fringe of being a
top ten top twelve defense neighborhood of a little bit
better than average, but clearly not elite. CJ's played exceptional
football against the Colts.
Speaker 2 (01:34:23):
Both of his games there have been victories. Thrown four
touchdowns with no picks. He's thrown seven touchdowns with no
picks in his career against Indianapolis. And in his mind,
I think he regards the second game of his career,
which was that week two game in his rookie season
against the Colts here in Houston that they lost, was
(01:34:45):
when he kind of felt like, Okay, I'm here, I
belong here. He absolutely blew up in the last two
and a half quarters against them. He threw for three
hundred and eighty four yards against the Colts. That was
the game where Anthony Richardson put him on the board
boom boom, and they were up fourteen. And the text
has really never recovered from that. But he threw the
ball exceptionally well in the second game of his career
(01:35:07):
and against the Colts in the three games that he's
played in since, that's just continued.
Speaker 1 (01:35:12):
I uh, I would like to think that he'd be
able to do that again no matter what the situation was.
But every time he has played them, and this is
going to be number five. Yeah, well, I could remember
if he missed any of the games in there because
(01:35:32):
of injuries. I couldn't remember more about the second year
because I clearly remember the first time he played them
and the second time he played them, the second time
being very very happy, but full participant at practice. By
the way, Oh, he is so getting out of the
concussion protocol.
Speaker 2 (01:35:47):
Jalen Petrier limited participant at practice today.
Speaker 1 (01:35:51):
They're both playing this weekend. If you had to guess,
I know you think about it, probably would not guess that.
So you think Petri's out. I wouldn't guess that he's in.
Make a decision.
Speaker 2 (01:36:03):
You're making me guess on a guy's concussion status when
he's still practicing on a limited basis, I'll guess he's
not going to be active.
Speaker 1 (01:36:11):
Okay, I would like I was. What I was going
to say is that every single time he has played
the Colts, because it feels like they've been spread out
each season, very spread out. In the case of the
first year, the offensive line has gone progressively worse, like
this would be the worst version of an offensive line
(01:36:31):
he has played behind. Even with everything they've done in
the last Sundays. Yeah, don't you think, uh, not necessary,
you're gonna say, You're gonna say last year was worse
than what he will probably think is behind this year.
That's that's right. I didn't really think about it from
that latterman.
Speaker 2 (01:36:46):
Tunsil was on the team, right, we can't act like, oh, yeah,
the offensive line played great that day he was there.
He did a nice job in pass pro, but he
was part of a terrible offensive line. At least you
know that. I don't care who he is, he's on
this line. How many times did he get sacked in
that Kansas City game? I feel like it was a lot,
like seven or something.
Speaker 1 (01:37:04):
Stupid like that. I'm sure was a high number. I
bet it was right on the right on the button. Seven.
Speaker 2 (01:37:09):
Again, the sack numbers, it's it's everything. If you drop
back and you're facing pressure forty seven point nine percent
of the time, that means even the player you're trying
to make because you aren't sacked, they're that much more difficult.
And even if it's completely you probably had to throw
to your hot guy, You probably had to throw a
dump off, or it's just not what you're looking for.
Offensively and you're facing that high of a pressure rate.
(01:37:29):
Even if the sack number is three at the end
of a Sunday.
Speaker 1 (01:37:34):
It doesn't tell the whole story. I'm also and I
should have asked him this, Why did they, meaning his
coworkers pick the Texans, Like, what reasons did they give?
We all know what we've been saying this week leading
up to it as to why we think it could be.
It could be the case. It could be a possibility
that they win that game. I don't even think it
would be an upset if the Texans went in there
and won it.
Speaker 2 (01:37:54):
Well, the longer the season goes and the Colts do
something a certain way, I think the more teams would,
if necessary and if with their personnel, would just say, yeah,
we're gonna load up the box and we're going to tackle.
And if you face good enough defenses that can do that.
The Falcons are not one of them. That's why they
beat them in overtime. Otherwise they would be on a
three game losing streak. The Kansas City Chiefs were one
(01:38:15):
of them. They said, I mean, we're gonna tackle, so
if he does break contain, if he does get through
the initial wave, we're gonna bring him down after a
five or six yard game instead of a seventeen or
twenty or fifty yard gain. And they also did a
nice job of kind of keeping him hemmed in, at
least from what I gathered when I was watching what
they were trying to do, it felt like he didn't
have space, he wasn't able to kind of they did
(01:38:38):
a good job, I would probably say on containment and
setting the edge. And it's not like he hasn't run
through holes in the middle before and turn those into
big games. He just didn't against Kansas City, and I
think that shows that they're a good team up front.
I think the Texans are a better team upfront. I
think as much pressure as on Settle and Rankins and
Edwards and Autrey if he plays he was a nonpractice
(01:39:00):
player today, Deniko Autry, whoever's on the interior, it's on
them a great deal. Taylor likes to outrun people when
he gets to the edge. Surprisingly, I think some dbs
and linebackers are a little surprised still this many years
in when he's accelerating and he's running past you, and
you've felt like I did not see that coming. But
he still does that, So you've got to prevent that
(01:39:22):
from happening. And I think if you watch what the
Chiefs do, there's no reason the Texans can't do the same.
And as simple as it sounds, is why I did
ask James that I don't really care what kind of
season Daniel Jones is having. It wouldn't matter if they
had Aaron Rodgers back there. Probably I can't lose by
letting Jonathan Taylor have one hundred and eighty yards of offense.
That's a guarantee you're going to lose. Trying to turn
(01:39:44):
them over is a task.
Speaker 1 (01:39:45):
He brought up.
Speaker 2 (01:39:46):
The five turnover game that Jones had was actually a
six turnover game for the team, and he had five
of them. They've only turned the ball over in three
other games they've played eleven times. Seven of them have
been turnover free. That's a surefire away to have a
good season. Have turnover free football games seven times and
eleven tries, you're gonna win a lot of football games
(01:40:06):
kind of, no matter what else is going on.
Speaker 1 (01:40:09):
I'm looking at this Daniel Jones fibula injury. It really
did come out of nowhere.
Speaker 2 (01:40:16):
Well, it was actually listed as a calf injury on
Wednesday of that week, and then the next day or
it was a Thursday of that week, and then the
Friday injury report it was listed as a fibula injury.
And as he said, there's a whole lot of mystery
about it, and it's kind of unknown, certainly about when
or if it took place, whether it was on the
practice field or in their game preceding the Chiefs game.
(01:40:38):
And if he says it and I didn't notice it,
he's probably covering the game a lot better than I
was while watching the game. But if he I guess
they call it a hitch in his gidde up his gait,
as James said, it would be noticeable.
Speaker 1 (01:40:54):
As Bob Saget said in Entourage, yes he's I look
at that gate.
Speaker 2 (01:40:58):
He's talking about something else entirely. He might be more
reluctant to take off. And if he's not reluctant to
take off, he might be that much easier to catch.
You don't have to rely on the turf to tackle him.
You can just catch him yourself. You know what else
could change his gait? Those two aforementioned pass rushers destroying him,
like I think they're gonna do on Sunday, cause I'm
(01:41:20):
telling you right now this is if they can't get
Jonathan Taylor going. And listen, he's an amazing player. He
has done amazing things all season long. The Texans are
as well equipped to stop that as anybody. If they do,
and Daniel Jones is trying to look around for help,
(01:41:44):
that game's already lost.
Speaker 1 (01:41:46):
I'm not saying that's gonna happen. I'm just saying that is.
That's certainly Demko's plan. I would think as a defense,
make everybody as uncomfortable as possible and go from there
and kind of let the chips fall and just hope
that whatever you've got cooked up on the offensive side
of the ball is enough to get you enough points.
Cause that's kind of the formula for success here in
(01:42:07):
twenty twenty five, for better or for worse, for your
Houston Texans, we will be back with our Stone Cold Locks.
It's a little early, but that's the week as mentioned
earlier on the show, bumping up Stone Cold Locks from
its usual Friday spot on our signature segment to today,
and that it is our final show of the week
and there's lots of football activity tomorrow Friday, Saturday, and
(01:42:30):
Sunday and even this week as you'll see when we
unveil our Stone Cold Locks Monday. So we'll get those
out there for you after. It's only right to do this.
Speaker 2 (01:42:41):
We remind you of our Week thirteen results in Cole's
swan song as a stone Cold locker, he along with
myself and AC made we didn't make fifteen different picks
because there are a bunch of picks that we felt
strongly enough about that more than one of us chose
the same line or over under to take, and we
(01:43:02):
missed them all, every single one of them. I've bemoaned
a couple of weeks in the past where we've had
six wins or four six correct picks or five correct picks.
I've usually pattered ourselves on the back when we hit
double figures, ten or eleven correct selections. Well, we didn't
get any right. It's almost like we should retire this
as a segment entirely, but we're not quitters. Was not
(01:43:27):
a good week. There were several close misses. Obviously, what
happened at the game I was at definitely contributed to
two of the losses, as two of us thought U
of h might be a point and a half better
than TCU. Missing two field goals in a three point
game hurts the cause, especially when one of them is
from thirty eight yards on the final in the final
(01:43:48):
moments of the game.
Speaker 6 (01:43:49):
That hurt.
Speaker 2 (01:43:50):
And there are a bunch of other things that fall
by the wayside, but that's life when you make stone
cold locks. This week's game of the week is quite obvious.
You'll hear it on Friday five point thirty. Coverage begins
right here on Sports Talk seven ninety for Longhorns and
Aggies Texas and Texas A and M right there on
the forty acres over DKR. Longhorns are at home and
(01:44:13):
the underdog to the undefeated Texas A and m Aggies,
and of course we'll make a prediction on Texans' cults.
Before we get to Josh's first selections of his participation
in this let me quickly run through the injury report
since we did not have a chance to do that
last segment, since it definitely applies. Colts conducted a walk
(01:44:34):
through by the way today, so this is just an
estimation of their participation, and Ahmad Gardner was limited with
a back injury. He also goes by Sauce. Daniel Jones
limited with the injury. We've been discussed the fibula injury,
and the Texans look like this full participation. Quarterback CJ
Strout limited participation, Starting safety Jalen Peatree with a concussion.
(01:45:00):
Starting right tackle Trent Brown hand injury. I saw him
out there and this would strike me as something that
they would do as best as they can to get
it as healthy as they can. But he'll be out
there on Sunday as the starting right tackle once again.
Speaker 1 (01:45:13):
But we'll see. And four players did not participate.
Speaker 2 (01:45:15):
Jamal Hill, a special teams linebacker who also missed last
week's game with the hamstring injury, as Johnnie Carter, who
was hurt in last week's game while participating on special teams.
He's turned into a very helpful special teams performer, but
left last week's game with a hamstring injury and did
not practice today for the same reason. Illness for Blake Fisher,
(01:45:36):
who continues to get work as the very important tackle
eligible fifteen twenty times a game, and Deniko Audrey, who's
been playing through a knee injury for a couple of weeks.
He did not practice either today, so status for Sunday.
Obviously a little bit in doubt in any of those
four cases. Josh, we need your four picks, including your
pick on Texas Texas A and m hold onto your
(01:45:59):
pick for texts.
Speaker 1 (01:46:00):
Colts will get that at the end.
Speaker 10 (01:46:02):
All right, boys, I am gonna go with my longhorns
here at plus two and a half.
Speaker 2 (01:46:06):
I'm gonna stop you there, What do you mean your longhorns?
Speaker 1 (01:46:09):
I went to the University of Texas, Adam, that's good
information for our listeners. I wanted them to have it. Okay,
so there you have it there. But also, hey, big
rivalry game early in the year. They look darn good
against Oklahoma, so let's see if they can do it again.
I'll take my horns plus the points at home. My
other picks. I'm gonna go with the Bears plus six
and a half. The Eagles don't really they don't seem
(01:46:29):
to be running away from anybody, so I'm gonna take
the points there. Also, gonna take the points with Bengals.
Ravens Lamar Jackson just does not look right. I know
the Bengals defense is awful, but I have a feeling
that Joe Burrow coming back. He keeps it close, and finally,
I like the Lions here minus two and a half
ac here we go.
Speaker 2 (01:46:49):
Please don't take your team this week as they looked
for their second win. My team, well, his team is
the Longhorns he went to Texas. Oh, your team would
be sam as they play FIU.
Speaker 1 (01:47:01):
I don't want to talk about that. I will take
the over in the Aggies Longhorns game. If for no
other reason then I think Arch is playing his best
football of.
Speaker 2 (01:47:11):
The seasons, player in the country. Heisman Trophy. We heard
it yesterday, I mean easily right.
Speaker 1 (01:47:16):
So I mentioned this last week and then I took
the over and I was bitten by it. But that's
the Eagles fault. I have taken a number of overs
and Cowboys related games, and most all of them have
paid off, except for last week and one other time.
As we are now in they.
Speaker 2 (01:47:32):
Were sitting at twenty one nothing rather quickly, needing only
another twenty seven points to get there.
Speaker 1 (01:47:39):
I hate them, So I'm taking the over on Chiefs
at Cowboys with that in mind, all right, I fifty
two and a half number? I agree? Well, which is
that for? You got one? Two more?
Speaker 6 (01:47:51):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:47:51):
Yeah, I was just saying that that's the number for
that game. Forty nine ers It browns a number of
thirty six and a half. I realize that Myles It
is involved, and I realize brock Party looks like he's
never played the position all of a sudden, But like,
I could go out there and quarterback one of these
teams and the combined total of this game would be
over thirty six and a half before we're all done. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:48:12):
Basically our analysis on that one is, like many people,
oh the numbers, thirty six and a half, that's all
I need to know. Me an NFL game at thirty
six and a half, you're playing me over. That's how
you feel. Why did they do this?
Speaker 1 (01:48:23):
Because it's gonna go under. It's gonna be hilarious. I
hate you, all right, Giants and Patriots sneaky over forty
six and a half. Patriots put up points, Giants will
have to find some to put up. But I think
that forty six and a half is a reasonable number
to take the over on that as well.
Speaker 2 (01:48:41):
Yeah, twenty seven to twenty Patriots victory. Dark coming back,
I could see that two of my picks are the
same as two picks that have already been made make
those quick Aggie's and Longhorns. I'll also take the over.
I like the Lions at home, as Josh does. It
gets the Packers tomorrow. I hate rivalry games in college football,
and I still picked them anyway. Bama minus six against Auburn,
(01:49:04):
All Miss minus seven at Mississippi State. Both of those
teams have a lot to play for. I won't even
get into the Lane Kiffin part of it, but seriously, guys,
I think you can handle this. I'll start with Texans
Colts forty four and a half.
Speaker 1 (01:49:17):
The over under.
Speaker 2 (01:49:18):
Texans are four and a half point dogs. I'll just
play the over. I think a CJ. Stroud expected return.
We talked about the Nico Collins angle of it this team.
The Colts have been extremely score heavy at home, even
against the Texans defense.
Speaker 1 (01:49:35):
I'll play the over Aces as will. I just easy
enough to say that, and Josh for me, I'm gonna
take the Texans plus the four and a half Texans
to cover he inherits the best record in here. By
the way, yoh, you have that.
Speaker 2 (01:49:50):
Well, we will work off of a winning percentage. I'm
sitting at forty eight percent, you're sitting at forty two percent.
Speaker 1 (01:49:57):
I'll round up Josh zero and zero.
Speaker 2 (01:50:00):
Currently I'm embarrassed, so if he comes into two and three,
he'll be in last place, dead place. We will see
that is your stone cold locks. For this upcoming weekend,
we had a bunch of things we still have not
gotten to, including baseball in the off season matters. The
Astros made a major announcement today.
Speaker 1 (01:50:20):
We'll tell you what it was. So during the break
we were talking about it seems this seem like they're
obviously easy to do, but apparently aren't for some people.
And it reminded me of something I talk about with
my wife all the time. And this is gonna come
off as super snobby, I don't know, whatever you want
(01:50:45):
to call it. Do you realize that if you're out
in a setting and I bring this up because the
holidays or tomorrow, you're gonna be taking a picture of somebody,
You're gonna take a picture with somebody tomorrow, right, a
relative is going to want to take a picture with
you because you have company in town. What's gonna happen?
It's the holidays. Why is it that when you hand
(01:51:06):
your phone to somebody these days, it's no longer cameras
that we carry around, although some of us, I guess
do Just pull the button down and then you see
the shutter move, and then push it further and you'll
take the picture. Okay, now through the phone, push the
button right here. Why is I set a whole thing
up for you? Just the big white dot in the middle.
Just tap that. And when you say you set the
(01:51:27):
whole thing up, what do you mean by that?
Speaker 2 (01:51:29):
I mean I took every necessary step except the last one,
which you're going to comment on here.
Speaker 1 (01:51:35):
Why are some people not only just they're bad photographer,
they look like they've never taken a phone picture in
their entire life. When you get your phone back and
you have to hide your disdain.
Speaker 2 (01:51:48):
I'll try to nip this in the bud the next
time I want a picture and I need somebody else
to take it that I know that i'm asking for.
Instead of saying can you take a quick picture of
us for me, and they'll say yeah, sure, I'll say,
can you take a quick picture of us for me?
And make sure to get all of my feet and
the floor and everything in the background around us, even
though you're four feet away.
Speaker 1 (01:52:08):
Okay, perfect, I mean, it's it's stunning the number of
times I will get the phone back and I have
to make a concerted effort to not let the person
that's handing the phone back to me know that I
think they're a legal idiot. Like they have the IQ
of the chair. I'm still when I ask them to
read your mind. Maybe they thought you wanted a picture
(01:52:29):
a lot. It's like when somebody the only thing I
can think of that's a.
Speaker 2 (01:52:33):
Good wonder, you just take all the pictures and every
picture that you have to be in take a selfie.
Speaker 1 (01:52:37):
I don't want to take selfies all the time. I'm
not bringing the trip, bring with you at the timer. Stepdaughter,
she's good at that. I'm not. She took a picture
of us at a wedding recently. It was perfect because
that's what she does all the time. She's a little
sorority chick. I don't do selfies. They don't look good.
I don't want them to look the way they look.
I don't want you to put some new feature on
(01:52:58):
the newest iPhone that makes it easier for you, because
all it does is make all the proportions of my
bile look weird. No, that's even worse. Talk about being
snobby talk about the screen maror videos so you can
put on the back of your phone. But like you know,
back in the day when people would actually still carry
they would there were these things called wallets, and you
(01:53:18):
would carry things in them, and one of those things
would be a picture, like a printed photo of you
have a wallet and there are pictures in it. Right,
So like back in the day, I'm talking like way
before cell phones were so prevalent. Smartphones, cell phones not
bricks that you had in your car that you talked on.
You would you know, somebody be like, hey, look at
(01:53:39):
my Look at my kid, my new kid. My kid's cute. Right,
you don't need to carry them around, you have them
on your phone. Back in the day, they did, and
you would see that photo and what if the kid
was ugly? What did you do? How did you react?
Wex I mean you it must have been a nightmare
because you never hide your mind.
Speaker 2 (01:53:55):
But if the kid was ugly, is it a picture
of them as a baby or they like in the
early years, like talking about people who don't know they
have ugly kids.
Speaker 1 (01:54:02):
That's the only thing I can think of in comparison
to this situation, this scenario where they hand you back
your phone, and they don't know that the kid's ugly
in the picture. They don't know that they're bad at
taking photos, and you have to look at it and
be like, oh, yeah, that's great. When you want to say,
are you stupid? How hard is this? Then just tell
them what you want I do. That's what makes it worse. Here,
(01:54:25):
I'm actually putting it in the area I want you
to take the photo. Don't zoom in, don't zoom out,
don't put a filter on it, don't hold it down,
don't take a video. It's not hard. Hit the button. No,
this is what I'm saying in my head after I
get it back, and they did the worst possible option ever.
Speaker 2 (01:54:44):
Don't put a filter onto People put filters on when
they're past, But did they do it on their own?
Speaker 1 (01:54:49):
Like if you're looking at it after you take the photo,
if I swipe, they won't see that this will make
it look better. But like, no, I.
Speaker 2 (01:54:54):
Thought you meant making you have like whiskers and cat hair.
Speaker 1 (01:54:58):
Like snapchat filter. Yeah, I just it's a little thing.
It's pretty little. Yeah, it happens all the time. Just
set up a photo booth. Where are you going for Thanksgiving.
Set up a nice little photo. I go there, you go, yeah,
just take Then you're you're fool proof. You're a photographer.
You could be the Thanksgiving. You could be the opposite
of this, which is Brent. Brent, you're gonna get an
(01:55:21):
amazing photo. Good, but you're going to take fifty of them.
Your phone offers you that option. Now, you're not printing
fifty photos. You're just taking fifty photos. Get a picture
and let's go. I don't know, well, I didn't get
it yet. Hang on, I don't need to pose. I
think your head's cut off in this one. Hang on,
Just everybody look at the camera. And I realize if
(01:55:42):
you have kids, it's harder. Your guys are closed up.
So and SO is not looking at the camera. Carson's
doing the Chandler smile. Do you ever have to tell
the people where to look?
Speaker 6 (01:55:52):
Well?
Speaker 1 (01:55:53):
I do, Yeah, look at the green dot. It's not hard, Majors.
So everything will be okay. You'll be back here on
Monday and you won't have had an issue. It's a
very low key Thanksgiving tomorrow. Good good. I enjoy it.
We all eat it nice and cool and casual. I
don't know how Christmas is going to go, but I
can tell you how Thanksgiving's going to go boring. And
that's the way we want it. Football and food and
(01:56:15):
not in or sorry, not in that order.
Speaker 2 (01:56:18):
Mentioned the Astros going into the break a major announcement,
if you will. They announced their coaching staff. There was
one edition that we were not aware of until earlier today.
I know Chandler Rome had reported that they have their
new assistant pitching coach to work with, Josh Miller. Bill
Murphy had left for the Pirates. So Ethan Katz is
that assistant pitching coach. Spent the last five years helping
(01:56:41):
the pitching staff for the Chicago White Sox. My immediate
thought was, I wonder if he has any input or
is asked for any input on free agent pitcher Dylan Ceasee,
who he worked with for three seasons in Chicago, and
that his best season together there in Chicago. But he's
one of five five changes or five additions to their
(01:57:02):
twelve person coaching staff this season. Cut to the chase
who's at third base? No change exactly. I did get
a response on that. Somebody was hoping that Tony Paris
Chica was getting some pointers on what he should be doing.
Speaker 1 (01:57:16):
Over with with the meme with Michael Scott. Nope, don't
like that. I did not think he had a particularly
good year of sending or holding. Yeah, it's the best
plays he made, I guess were the ones where the
runner ignored him and just blew through the stop. Usually. Yes,
his name was jose Al tuvay n out of ten times.
Multiple players. But their staff is now put together. It's
(01:57:39):
it's new hitting coach duo, half of a new pitching
coach duo, and a catching instructor. Essentially the main changes. Also,
they have an OC this year.
Speaker 2 (01:57:49):
Come on, the director of hitting an offensive coordinator? Why
would you call it that he's coordinating the offense?
Speaker 1 (01:57:56):
What offense?
Speaker 2 (01:57:58):
Do we not talk about baseball teams like offense draw
plays for baseball? Well, we're not asking him. That's not
what the offensive coordinator in baseball does. He doesn't draw
up what.
Speaker 1 (01:58:07):
Does the offensive coordinary and baseball do? Hey, man, dude,
hit better. This guy runs fast. You should send him,
you should we should hit and run with this hitter
more often. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard in
my life. Taking a clear football term coordinator. It's not
even the offensive part. That's so stupid. It's the coordinator.
Speaker 2 (01:58:26):
Party Dan Hennigan the director of hitting. That would be fine, Yes,
pol he's the director of hitting and offensive coordinator.
Speaker 1 (01:58:34):
Stop it. You know what's gonna be funny is when
he comes back next year the offense is magically better
because they got healthy, and they take that second part
off of his title because they even realized how dumb
this sounds. Do the Rockets have an offensive coordinator?
Speaker 6 (01:58:49):
Nope?
Speaker 1 (01:58:50):
The Texans do, yep, because they're a football team. Just
like when Jeff Bisdelic got here. He wasn't the defensive
coordinator for Mike d'An tom Oh, but everybody called him
that you I guarantee you. I did, and I probably
did too, but I thought it was dumb in the
back of my mind.
Speaker 2 (01:59:05):
We'll hear from Demiko Ryans after practice today, coming up
next in football at five?
Speaker 1 (01:59:10):
All right, what were we gonna play? From Demico here?
I've completely forgot.
Speaker 2 (01:59:15):
It sounded like you were going to go in a
completely different, non football like direction.
Speaker 1 (01:59:19):
How could it's me?
Speaker 2 (01:59:22):
We talked a lot about pretty much every aspect of
this game other than well, maybe you can assist your
quarterback not only with your line play, but with your
running game. And there were parts of last week's game,
Thursday Night's game where the running game really got going.
Definitely early in the game, they did a nice job.
Wood He Marx had holes to run through. Woody mars
was creating opportunities, breaking tackles and doing the things that
(01:59:44):
have him as the clear number one running back for
this team and the heavy load, heavy use running back
on this team, and that will should remain the same
heading into this week. Obviously, everybody in the backfield at
the very least is healthy, is still carried just three
running backs. This is the first week all see that
Damian Pierce is not a member of the team, but
he wasn't usually a member of the active roster either.
(02:00:05):
He is now with the Kansas City Chiefs as part
of their practice squad. It will have zero impact on
the Texans if they don't have a rash of injuries.
Speaker 1 (02:00:13):
Do you think Nick Chubb knows that he's already retired yet?
Do you think Nick Chubb knows that Nick Chubb is
already retired?
Speaker 6 (02:00:19):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (02:00:20):
I mean he was practicing today. He caught some passes
and did some drills when I was out there.
Speaker 1 (02:00:24):
It's basically it's basically wood march I said this the
other day. They're clearly using him way, way less. I mean,
but he's not less effective. Yeah, he's been very effective
in this role. And for as far as we are
into the season, this is game twelve, this is week fourteen,
(02:00:44):
that are week thirteen, he still has more yards than Woody.
He's averaging more yards per carry than Woody.
Speaker 2 (02:00:53):
Yeah, so he did a very good job here all
things considered, and they clearly do not have a great
rushing attack. However, there are a lot of things that
they need to be aware of when the offense is
out there. Demiko Ryans commenting on that.
Speaker 8 (02:01:06):
Yeah, for us offensively, we have to just be playing
with the awareness. They have a lot of different looks,
a lot of different pressures that they can deploy. I
think they're backers, are really good players. They play aggressive. Now,
hell Nicols a good player. I mean, they're a talented team.
So we just have to make sure we are aware
for when they are running the pressures. And you know,
(02:01:27):
they don't have some different looks where they're dropping guys out,
dropping d Lineman out as well. So we just have
to be, you know, really smart from the quarterback perspective
of understanding our res and going through and making the
best decisions we can make with the football.
Speaker 2 (02:01:41):
There are a bunch of people that think there's a
possibility that their DC lou Anroumo will be heavily sought
after for interviews and potential head coaching jobs. I'm not
among them, but I don't have a lack of respect
for and I think he's done a very nice job
there and I think at some point maybe that will
come to pass. I don't think it'll happen this coaching cycle.
It's his first year. They're in Indian Apols, which also
(02:02:01):
means that Texans haven't faced his defense. They faced his
defense a little bit when he was the coordinator with
the Bengals for the last six years prior to this year,
but it's different personnel, different everything. They've got plenty of
film on it, but they literally just haven't gone up
against it over the two years that Demiko Ryans and
CJ have been playing for the Texans and playing against them,
and that kind of goes into CJ's performances against them,
(02:02:23):
Nico's performances against them, et cetera. It's just a really
really different look. They have very similar personnel. They did
make some changes as Nick mentioned earlier, and as we
mentioned earlier in the secondary, a big portion of everything
else that they do other than Jermaine Pratt is guys
that have been there before, Guys that the Texans have
faced before many times before.
Speaker 1 (02:02:44):
Yeah, familiarity is a luxury sometimes in division games. And
the unfortunate part about that aspect is that there's been
so much turnover in one way, shape or form with
all three of these teams outside of the Texans, whether
it be coaching in Jacksonville, whether it be personnel and
(02:03:08):
coaching in Tennessee. And I would say mainly primarily, I
mean coaching, yes, But the quarterback position. How many different
quarterbacks have the Texans faced? I guess since CJ was
drafted that played for the Colts and started a game
against them, aren't there like three at least each year
(02:03:29):
it's a different guy.
Speaker 2 (02:03:30):
Yeah, So I mean Minshew and Richardson, I believe over
the first two seasons, and now it'll be Jones.
Speaker 1 (02:03:36):
Minche started that game where they clinched the playoff spot
when they beat them on the road. Correct in year one,
for CJ. Yep. Yeah, you know that's where the familiarity, Like,
the Colts are probably still the only team I mean
to an extent, Yes, Trevor Lawrence because he's been the quarterback,
but he's had a different coach every year basically, So yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:03:57):
The other two franchises made major changes pretty much there
out Demiko's tenure. Demiko and the Texans have essentially done
the same thing that Shane Steichen's and Shane Stiken and
the Colts have done, just on the different side of
the ball. They're on their second defensive coordinator, the Texans
on their second offensive coordinator, because their head coach runs
their side of the ball.
Speaker 1 (02:04:15):
Demiko runs the defense, Shane runs the offense.
Speaker 2 (02:04:18):
I know Matt Burke calls plays here, but I don't
think Matt Burke is in jeopardy of being fired when
it's Demiko's defense much differently in the here, and it's
the same thing in India.
Speaker 1 (02:04:27):
It's just the other side of the ball. Matt Burke
does not, I repeat, does not celebrate a big defensive
play nearly as hard as Demiko on any given I
would say Sunday, but they play like every night of
the week. Yeah, it's just being himself. He's that's just
notic laconic. He does.
Speaker 2 (02:04:44):
There's plenty of videos of him celebrating on the sideline,
just as you said, Demko just not like Demiko is still.
Speaker 1 (02:04:49):
Playing out there. Sometimes it looks like.
Speaker 2 (02:04:52):
Well, when he's the first guy to reach Sheldon Rankins,
he's he's in pretty.
Speaker 1 (02:04:57):
Good shit to do Settle or or any number of
guys that have just made I mean.
Speaker 2 (02:05:03):
Well, when Rankin scores the touchdown on the final play
of the game and he's standing outside the back of
the end zone, yeah, Mike was the first guy to
get there from forty yards.
Speaker 1 (02:05:11):
That's what you were saying. But yeah, I mean, he's
so animated and I like that. Like you know, there's
a lot of coaches that almost it feels like they
try to be the opposite Tamiko is who he is.
It's why I wanted him to be the coach, because
I figured it would be a lot like when he
was a player. He was just like that when he
played here. In fact, we were walking out on Thursday
(02:05:34):
and I started the game and you know, you know,
Brody Chapman over at Spindle Top. We started the game
in our seats, very fantastic seats. But at the end
of the game, we wound up sitting with Brody in
one of the suites, and so on the way out
of the suite, we're walking. You know, if you've ever
(02:05:56):
been up to that level, there's all sorts of our
artistic stuff on the walls, and it's a lot of
it's like a look back in time at various points
in the franchise's brief history. Right outside the suite was
a gigantic, full length wall black and white photo of
Demiko when he was playing helmet on typical you know, raw,
(02:06:20):
raw look on his face. Who knows what had just happened.
He probably had blown up a quarterback and it just
it fell Right after watching the end of that game,
which was absolutely won by the defense, overwhelmingly against admittedly
one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, that we
would run into something like that, I just felt kind
of poetic. But yeah, he's he's been remarkably similar as
(02:06:43):
a coach to how he was as a player.
Speaker 2 (02:06:45):
Yeah, I love all that stuff too, but it would
carry no weight if.
Speaker 1 (02:06:50):
He wasn't good or if they didn't win. Well, they're winning,
because it's just cochin. Belichick was a jerk. He got
away with it a lot because they were winning a lot.
Speaker 2 (02:06:58):
Yeah, jerk to the media is also different, Like I
don't really care what you are with the media. You
I mean, I'm a media member and it doesn't make
any difference to me how you are with me. You're
here to win football games, not be nice. If you're
not nice and you lose it, everybody thinks you look bad.
Speaker 1 (02:07:14):
You're Bill O'Brien.
Speaker 2 (02:07:15):
Bill O'Brien is answering really unfortunate but deserved questions over
the last couple of weeks.
Speaker 1 (02:07:22):
All I was talking about his time here, but yes, there.
Speaker 2 (02:07:24):
I mean, he's there. You know, this is a huge
as the season comes to an end. Like I was
on the field before the game last weekend TCU and
you of H. And as you of H is going
through warm ups, they're back at their end of the
field and near their end zone. It's overrun with people
because they had so many recruits in town and their families.
It's just everybody's there's a big deal, same as everywhere else.
(02:07:45):
And Bill's getting questions this week, and again I think
there are totally legitimate, realistic questions what is how is
this season impacting what you're telling your recruits?
Speaker 1 (02:07:54):
How you're dealing with that? And you know I'm not
you know, you guys know me.
Speaker 2 (02:07:58):
And he wanted to say, I'm not a curse word
like a BS or I'm telling him like it is
that we have a ways to go. We think you're
some of the people that could be a part of it.
What we're doing this year is something we're just as
unhappy about as everybody else. So, yes, I think he's
every once in a while you hear him and you're like,
he realizes you're losing, things aren't going well. Don't take
(02:08:19):
it out on the media unless they ask for it.
And most of the time they don't ask for it.
Over for that guy, Matt. But there's other times when
he just does it because he's he's just not feeling it.
He's in a bad mood. There are reasons. Why is
it Matt that asked the question? He didn't like right,
but he didn't use his name. He finished it off
with the line, what's up, Trevor.
Speaker 1 (02:08:34):
Trevor, Yeah, that's right. But yeah, if you do all
those things and you win, it gets looked past, which
again it should all get looked past in reality how
you are. But we're all human. That's the human side
of it all.
Speaker 2 (02:08:47):
Like Dimiko's had some instances this year where he's been
less three games, less than helpful. He's been bad with
the media at times. And unless you bring it up
to me like we're doing now, I don't care at all.
And as soon as it's done and we talked about
it the next day or two, then I move on.
Speaker 1 (02:09:06):
It doesn't matter bad with you. This week it was
maybe a crappy five second answer. It's perfectly come on,
you're mister fiery. You need more than five seconds. When
Wax asked you a good question.
Speaker 2 (02:09:17):
Yester or Monday's availability in today's availability, the very first
question essentially was searching for the same answer we want
to know about CJ's status, but it was asked differently,
and he reacted dramatically differently because that's just how he is.
Speaker 1 (02:09:33):
It's not about what you don't think. That's how you
approach me. He much like a marriage.
Speaker 2 (02:09:38):
He was very much this is how he deals with injuries.
He doesn't want you to act like or ask him like,
this isn't a person, but it's merely a number. Or
a part of football, even though injuries are part of sez.
Speaker 1 (02:09:51):
How does he have conversations with his robot general manager?
Then who?
Speaker 2 (02:09:55):
By the way, I think you know this. I think
he liked him an unbelievable amount.
Speaker 1 (02:10:02):
Do you think he calls CJ seven. I don't think
they're talking about him. No, he's the protocol sell their team.
I think they know. They call him by name. Other
teams players they call him by number. Ninety one is
a good player. We gotta keep an eye on him.
It's so robotic. He is the terminator.
Speaker 2 (02:10:18):
Well, let's coaches do that NonStop. They refer to players
by their number.
Speaker 1 (02:10:21):
Daryl did that.
Speaker 2 (02:10:22):
Darryl's different than everybody else. Your are assets to him.
Speaker 1 (02:10:27):
We got tickets to give away we'll give you in
fall on that coming back. And I don't know if
you believe this or not, but you have to stick
around to find out. Alex Rodriguez making sense? Oh yeah,
all right, okay, if you say so, there's got the
things you need to get to this segment before we
get to in case you missed it, next segment, we
will have tickets to give away in the final segment
(02:10:47):
of the show, The Never Ending nineties with Ezra ray Hart.
Speaker 2 (02:10:51):
They'll be at Smart Financial Center in December. We'll have
a pair of tickets to give away to that. Also
have a pair of tickets to give away to see
Motley Crewe along with Tesla and Extreme.
Speaker 1 (02:10:59):
They're coming to the Words Pavilion. That'll be in September
the twenty twenty six. So final segment of the show
will give you an opportunity to win.
Speaker 2 (02:11:06):
Tickets to see that. We need to get to the
worst person on the Fox Baseball Studio Show in just
a moment. But I just wanted to point this out
as we run out of time to talk about Daniel
Jones via the Texans.
Speaker 1 (02:11:20):
That's only happened once before. Do you even remember Daniel
Jones via the Texans in the NFL. I'm assuming the
Giants hosted Houston.
Speaker 2 (02:11:29):
The Giants hosted the Houston Texans at MetLife in November
of twenty twenty two, So pre will CJ Tamiko.
Speaker 1 (02:11:38):
And I'm assuming the Texans found a way to lose
that game. Well, what did the Texans do that season?
Line themselves up to draft CJ. Stroud. Yeah, so with
three wins, obviously that one day wasn't there.
Speaker 2 (02:11:48):
Daniel Jones hooked them up by just having an incredible day.
Speaker 1 (02:11:52):
It was his only good season there, right.
Speaker 2 (02:11:54):
Giants ran sixty seven plays that day. How many passes
do you think he threw that day? Sixty five?
Speaker 3 (02:12:01):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (02:12:01):
Lower?
Speaker 3 (02:12:03):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (02:12:03):
Thirty five lower? No way.
Speaker 2 (02:12:07):
Remember when he was with the Giants during their good times.
His teammate's name was Saquon Barkley. Yeah, so Saquon had
what thirty five carries? Exactly? Yeah, Taquon had thirty five carries.
They also ran the ball eleven other times. Sixty seven plays,
forty seven runs, and they easily beat the Texans.
Speaker 1 (02:12:27):
That's called masking your bad quarterback. He was good that day.
He was doing this year. It was very easy.
Speaker 2 (02:12:33):
He was thirteen to seventeen, a couple of touchdowns, no picks,
just easy, breezy, and the Texans had little to offer
in fighting back. He probably won't see but one player
for the second time, Derek Stingley Junior was with them,
and starting Jalen Petrie was also there. We'll see if
he plays, and that would be two. Everything else again,
(02:12:53):
it's of no consequence. He does have a Jonathan Taylor
now to then Saquon Barkley, so if they can't stop him,
like they could not stop Sakwan, who had one hundred
and fifty two yards that day. Again, he only averaged
four point three yards to carry, which was way below
as average for the season. But they were able to
give him the ball thirty five times and run the
ball forty seven times. That makes things very very easy.
(02:13:14):
If you can do that, you don't risk a lot
of turnovers, and they had none, and you don't really
care what the final score is because you know the
other team has no chance. The Texans were within one
score for seven a little over five minutes in the
second half because they kicked a field goal to lose
by eight with seven seconds left and they did not
recover the on side kick, and that was that.
Speaker 1 (02:13:35):
That was your ball game. So get to Derek. Jeter's
not very good friend that he shares time with in
the Fox set up until today. I'm fairly confident that
we are very good friends and have had on the
show numerous times over the years. The biggest bud Sea
League detractor and I'm being nice when I use the
(02:13:56):
word detractor on the planet Jeff Plum. He calls him
Sea League and plums, you know, not afraid of being critical.
But he's not typically a guy you think of that
just goes about saying disparaging things about people like he
is widely known around the game of baseball, players and others.
They're not big fans of Bud. Yeah. Yeah, he's hardly alone.
(02:14:20):
And in this case he's really not alone because Alex
Rodriguez definitely does not like the fact that not only
is Bud Sea League a bad commissioner in his era,
but he's gone out on a limb to say that
it's a bit like hypocrisy that Bud Sea League, who
(02:14:43):
presided over the steroid era of baseball, is also in
the Hall of Fame, while guys like, of course Barry
Bonds and Roger Clemens are not. And the reason they're
not is because the voters are like, well, I know,
we voted Bud Sea Lee again as he sat there,
and I mean, well, did they or did they not?
They didn't, So he was just the same voters who
(02:15:05):
vote against Buns and Clemens aren't the same voters who
voted Bud Seal again. So how'd he get in?
Speaker 2 (02:15:10):
Well, not that way, that's even worse. Well, I mean
I'm being real. I know they don't have a ballot
for bud Selig, do they.
Speaker 1 (02:15:16):
I'm sitting here. I don't even know how he got in.
I really don't. I don't care. I don't care how
Bud Seeley got into the Hall of Fame. It's the
fact that he's in there and these people over here
are not. When he was clearly he knew what was
going on. And this is what a Rod's saying. He
was asked, do you believe you deserve to be in
the Hall of Fame? And I also ask about even
(02:15:38):
somebody like a Barry Bonds, how do you feel about that?
And he said, yeah, Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, to me,
your absolute no brainers. He went on to say, all
this stuff you're talking about was under bud Selig's watch.
The fact that those two guys, Bonds and Clemens are
not in, but somehow bud Sea League is in the
Hall of Fame, that to me feels like there's a
little bit some hypocrisy around that. Like you mentioned, this
(02:16:01):
is I mean, yes, he was very visible. He was
a huge money maker. He was a huge money taker
in the game of baseball. One of the greatest players
of all time, just immeasurable talent, all that kind of stuff.
But he also, you know, used his performance enhancing drugs.
But he's also one of their faces for better or
(02:16:24):
for worse, on their national broadcast every single time out.
And he's sitting here saying this about the former commissioner,
which by the way, he also thinks Rob Manford's just amazing,
so take it all with it helps his case to
pimp one and crush the other. But like nothing he's
saying about this, I agree with one hundred percent of it.
(02:16:44):
I always had and you know this. I think bonds
and clements should be in. You can have this coursing
through your veins that helps you should you make contact
or you still have to make the pitch. You still
have to hit the ball. And for those who think
it's oh, it's just so easy, the astros knew what
was coming.
Speaker 2 (02:17:00):
Okay, let's see go do it. I don't see it
the way you see it, but I do agree with you.
I think they should be in the Hall of Fame.
I think that the I try to imagine their careers
without it, and then I stopped because I shouldn't, Because
how about if I imagine their career against nothing but
clean players other than the two of them, Like did
he did? How many of Barry Bond's homers came off
(02:17:21):
of a pitcher that was using?
Speaker 1 (02:17:22):
It's good point, how many of his hits? How many?
Speaker 2 (02:17:25):
How many times did Roger Clements strike somebody out that
was using or give up a home run to somebody
that was using. I don't know, but I guarantee you
it's not zero, right, So it was that prevalent. He
was so good and then maybe got a touch better
or a lot better that he's singled out because he's
at the top of the list of greatness. Both of
(02:17:45):
those players, A Rod too, A Rod's, all three of
them are pretty different in this regard. A Rod absolutely
positively lied about it and then said he lied about it.
Speaker 1 (02:17:56):
He didn't wag his finger at Congress, though. Roger Clemens,
there's no acknowledgment. I can't it be twelve. He fought
it very loudly, very clearly. I love you, by the way, Roger,
and I love Roger.
Speaker 2 (02:18:09):
His situation is different, and I think it was more
factual from what we know from documents that were never
supposed to be public. They were leaked that Barry Bonds
did use the clear and the cream. That information is
known hashtag Balco. So it's very I think all three
of them are a little bit different in that regard.
But yeah, I would have no problem if I were
a Hall of Fame voter at this point in time,
(02:18:31):
if they.
Speaker 1 (02:18:31):
Were on the ballots because of the P word, right,
and that's prevalent.
Speaker 2 (02:18:34):
I just think there's too many other factors to just say, well,
since I know they used, I'm going to keep them out.
But it was so prevalent in the game in general,
Like you just said that, it's it's I think it's
actually unfair to say it about them only when you
know how.
Speaker 1 (02:18:48):
Much it was happening. Taking a step further, we know
there are guys that used that are in the Hall
of Fame. That right there alone is the dumbest argument
to be well, we can't vote for Claromen's and Bonds.
You morons voted other guys that were using. Even if
you didn't you didn't voted in bud Sea League, you
have already probably knowingly in some cases that's the most
(02:19:10):
pathetic part. Voted in guys that you knew at one
time or another were using and benefited from it with
the numbers that got them into. Sad Hault.
Speaker 2 (02:19:18):
Absolutely, but there are also others besides this, those that
we say over and over and over again that aren't
getting voted in for the same reason. Yeah, but it's like,
why are you picking and choosing certain guys? What because
one broke records and one has just set experiensity I
would say ninety nine point nine percent of the time
this conversation comes up and those three names get brought
(02:19:38):
up because they're not in. Why don't we say the
same thing about Manny Ramirez? Why how could this guy
not be in the Hall of Fame because he used?
Speaker 6 (02:19:45):
Right?
Speaker 1 (02:19:46):
I guess, I mean, I guess I can't think of
any other reason. Time postseason home run leader by one
over a twove.
Speaker 2 (02:19:54):
There's I don't know what else a professional baseball player
is supposed to do with their career statistically going to
get into the He never gets met he's not in
that same conversation, that same breath. But that's clearly why
he's getting thirty percent of the vote every year.
Speaker 1 (02:20:08):
Yeah, and again using the P word. Oh, it was prevalent,
it was everywhere. Well, then you thought the word was percocet.
What's different? That's a different You people to vote these
people like the meanest thing ever, Well, that's what they
are people. You people should probably read up and talk
(02:20:30):
to the actual players themselves about how prevalent sign stealing
was so instead of just putting it on the astros
light conversation, same mentality.
Speaker 2 (02:20:38):
Would you be willing to wear this rather ambiguous shirt
and get questioned about it? Would you wear a shirt
that said I agree with a Rod?
Speaker 1 (02:20:48):
No? If that's all it said, no, I'm with Alex
would you wear would you wear that?
Speaker 6 (02:20:52):
No?
Speaker 1 (02:20:53):
But you are and you do. That's not the full sentence.
That's leaving out context. So you put that on the
back In small? Umm, did I'd tell you about the
time I went to San Diego wearing a shirt that
said thank you San Diego, and on the eye it
said something very very small. That was a line from
the Anchorman movie.
Speaker 2 (02:21:12):
I already knew that was coming. In case you missed
it is next.
Speaker 1 (02:21:17):
Half way through the final hour.
Speaker 2 (02:21:19):
Of our final show of the week is In case
you missed it, a couple of items we need to
revisit or get to because we haven't gotten to and
one of those items just came down a few minutes ago.
Dylan Cees, one of the best starting pitchers out there
in the free agent market, will not be Houston Astro
because he's agreed to a deal with the Toronto Blue Jays,
(02:21:40):
the best.
Speaker 1 (02:21:41):
Team in the American League leave America.
Speaker 2 (02:21:43):
John Hayman had this first seven years, two hundred and
ten million. So Dylan Cees is a thirty million dollar
a year pitcher going to the American League East, not
to the Yankees, not to the Red Sox, but to
the best team in the East.
Speaker 1 (02:22:01):
Dyl greater than Sonny Gray. Believe it or not, these
are the two newest pictures to the division.
Speaker 2 (02:22:10):
I would that, well, Sonny Gray, I would much rather
have under the terms of their contract.
Speaker 1 (02:22:16):
I saw what I asked, Who's.
Speaker 2 (02:22:18):
A better pitcher if it's game World Series? Yeah, probably
Sonny Gray.
Speaker 1 (02:22:23):
Money is no object, as you know, because they don't
have a salary cap. They don't care.
Speaker 2 (02:22:27):
Yeah, Dylan Cees' postseason career is brief, but it's poor,
so I'd be a little concerned about that. But you know,
a pitcher already in his thirties and you're paying him
for seven years two hundred and ten million. I didn't
think the Astros would be the answer for him. I
knew they would never go that far, but I didn't
expect him to get this either. This is a one
(02:22:47):
hundred and fifty million dollars pitcher I thought tops I
thought five years was Max. This is an incredible deal
for the player. Incredible, is Villan.
Speaker 1 (02:22:59):
This is what's wrong with baseball right now. If you
got it, you want to wait it, go right ahead, listen.
If that's what Dylan Ceese got, then Kyle Tucker really
is going to get the stupidest contract ever and he's
gonna get it from the Dodgers.
Speaker 2 (02:23:12):
Well to that end briefly before you get to the
rest of In case you missed that, there was a
piece on ESPN about the presumed best three starting pitchers
on the free agent market, and one of them was
fromber Valdez seven years. One was Dylan Ceas, the other
was Ranger Suarez. So those were the They had a
(02:23:33):
survey of sixteen MLB execs and these are the top
three agent free agent starters with experience.
Speaker 1 (02:23:39):
Where do you think they will sign? I want him
so bad, three of.
Speaker 2 (02:23:42):
The sixteen, said Dylan Seas would sign with the Blue Jays.
None of them said the Astros. None of them said
the Astros for Ranger Suarez either one of them said
the Astros for Fromber, which I found rather surprising. Well,
my others said the Blue Jays, who he's clearly not
going to. Now if he does, he does, they want
all the guns. They're not going to hire these two guns.
(02:24:03):
At the same time, what.
Speaker 1 (02:24:05):
Scenario would the Astros bring Fromber back to where Fromber
would say yes, and they want that shorter term super
duper team friendly Jim Brainsdel his agents drastically overplayed their
hands and completely misread the market, neither of which is
going to happen. Insane incentives, Oh he like, I don't
(02:24:27):
know how he could end up here because he's going
to get a better offer than that. Whatever they offer him,
he's not going to be his best offer by it's
not even going to be close. What sucks about this
is that it now opens up a possibility that he
goes to another team that would hurt you even more.
I don't worry about the Blue Jays, as dumb as
that might sound coming off a World Series of appearance,
because I just think that division, they're going to beat
(02:24:48):
up on each other so much.
Speaker 2 (02:24:50):
I mean, how about if he reunites with his former
manager in Detroit.
Speaker 1 (02:24:55):
Yep, So they're going to give him money that they
wouldn't give to the guy they're clearly rating now very
different money, not really. I mean, he's the top pitching
for a million dollars a year difference, maybe more. I
just think that why would you pay fromber if you're
not going to pay a better pitcher? I tend to agree.
Speaker 2 (02:25:15):
And the other question again before you get to the
rest of in case you missed it, will Kyle Tucker
be a four hundred million dollar contract player?
Speaker 1 (02:25:23):
The answer is yes. Six said yes, ten said no.
I say no. See you when he has a four
in front of it. He's not going to get a
four hundred million dollar contract. Yes, deal today for cease
worries me got little. That's why he's going to get
Come on, what are you guys doing? I listen. When
he's healthy, he's the one of the best regular season
(02:25:44):
hitters out there.
Speaker 2 (02:25:45):
So the Yankees, Dodgers, Blue Jays, Phillies, anybody else even
in the running. If it's four hundred million And now
I didn't say that if I did say the Blue Jays,
that means.
Speaker 1 (02:25:56):
Blue Jays, Dodgers, Phillies.
Speaker 2 (02:25:57):
Okay, yeah, so Blue Cheers are out because they just
two hundred on this guy.
Speaker 1 (02:26:01):
So the World Series have Mets. Is there anybody else
the Mets could give him that money? Okay, so four teams?
But where is he playing? Who cares well? You need
to care if you're spending four hundred million on him
right field? Who's their right fielder? Right now? I'll say
it again, who cares well? Who is it?
Speaker 6 (02:26:20):
Though?
Speaker 1 (02:26:20):
I want to know somebody worse than him? That's true?
Who is it?
Speaker 10 (02:26:25):
Just some guy?
Speaker 1 (02:26:26):
You have Soto and center?
Speaker 2 (02:26:27):
And Soto's been their right fielder. That's why I said
somebody worse than time? I thought he played center for them.
Speaker 1 (02:26:33):
He has. I don't think they want him to, but
most of the most part, he's played the majority of
his career in right field. Yeah, I don't know why
I think he plays that. He's butchered and he's usually
in that side of the field. Yeah. I don't think
about his fielding because he's just so awesome at the plate.
He's only twenty one, you know.
Speaker 2 (02:26:48):
We will see how it plays out. Kyle you're gonna
be super duper rich either way. All right, Josh? What
else do we have? And in case you missed it?
Speaker 10 (02:26:57):
All right, guys, uh, I like that they didn't cease
actually because you lose that PPI pick you get for
Hunter Brown being a cy young finalists, which we know
the Astros they need all the help in the farm
system they can get. All right, what else do we have?
Frank Rag? Now, Lions had told us that ship has sailed.
He is coming out of retirement. They're having some issues
keeping Jared Goff clean on the inside there, so he
(02:27:19):
is coming back. I don't know if he's going to
be playing as soon as this well, tomorrow, I don't
count on that.
Speaker 1 (02:27:27):
I'd be awesome.
Speaker 2 (02:27:28):
That would be pretty blow out his knee for sure,
mister starting for us at center all year. We found
this guy on the street and I know the game's tomorrow,
but we're gonna go ahead and start him.
Speaker 1 (02:27:39):
Like, if it was this easy, why didn't the Texans
just pick him up? He was, He's already better than
any of their guys.
Speaker 2 (02:27:46):
Now, he's just he's a super elite caliber player who
should not have been faced with deciding to retire as
early and as young as he did.
Speaker 1 (02:27:54):
What happens with Lions players all the time like that,
what's the deal? I don't think it is because they
were this guy, which they always retire early.
Speaker 2 (02:28:04):
Yeah, multi time Pro Bowl player, All Pro caliber player,
he's been a starter for them for his only eight
year career, and it's a very good thing for a
team trying to steady the ship after losing a bunch
of coaches and Ben Johnson among them.
Speaker 1 (02:28:18):
Rich get Richer. What else do we have?
Speaker 10 (02:28:20):
Well, I know Clinton had some audio we wanted to
get to, right.
Speaker 2 (02:28:25):
I really just put that there because we didn't get
to it any earlier.
Speaker 1 (02:28:27):
Out of all if we played here, it's a good time
to play it. We have just enough time to check
in on Lee Corso, who was asked how retirement is
right now? Blowsy.
Speaker 6 (02:28:39):
I hate it.
Speaker 1 (02:28:40):
I can't watch college game d I mean, I just
I just got of can't get used to it. I'm
not working anymore. I used to fly all over see
and it sucks.
Speaker 2 (02:28:56):
I'm glad he said it sucks at the end because
it made me laugh. The rest of it was making
me super duper sad. Why do we play that because
it's in the news. Now we can take that and
use it later, Like what do you think about your
co host lousy?
Speaker 1 (02:29:11):
Something like that. Maybe we could play Nancy Pelosi back
shunt up, Yeah, something like that. Or she's slurring her
speech because she's drunk on Capitol Hill. That's a t
I can totally see him waking up on Saturday and saying,
I don't care what we do or what we watch.
Do not put Game Day on? That's so depressing, Like
after I don't do this show anymore, I'm not gonna
(02:29:33):
watch you every day because you're still doing the show.
Of course, you're retired early when I got fired. Retired young,
Why do you have to get fired? Why can't you
just retire? I don't know. I just figured this is
what happened the last time. Maybe I will retire. I
guess something to talk to you about during the break.
Just kidding. We gotta get to something pretty fun on
(02:29:58):
the NBA, so I'll try to as much time as
possible on that.
Speaker 2 (02:30:02):
Rockets play the Warriors tonight. They are still alive for
advancement in the NBA Cup.
Speaker 1 (02:30:08):
Hey, what's the line? Are they favored? The Rockets, I
doubt are favored on the Road at Golden State with
Steph Curry and Jimmy Butler Healthy. Yeah, but the little
Predictor on ESPN thinks overwhelming the Rockets gonna win this game.
Speaker 2 (02:30:20):
Okay, So tickets we have for you've been given away
throughout the week.
Speaker 1 (02:30:24):
We'll do so again today.
Speaker 2 (02:30:25):

ray Hart Nineties Hits, Christmas Rifts December thirteenth, Smart Financial
Center at sugar Land, and it also features members of
Sugar Ray, Tonic and Better Than Ezra. Tickets on sale

Speaker 1 (02:30:41):

the Crew Motley Crue, Return of the Carnival of Sends, Tour,
Tesla and Extreme performing with them that evening, September eleventh

com as we speak. Should you not win them here,
If you were listening to the show this very last segment,
you'll have the answer this very simple question. If you
weren't listening to the show this last segment, you have
(02:31:04):
a fifty to fifty chance of getting it right. Last segment,
we talked about former Chicago Cubs great Kyle Tucker and
if he would earn a contract that was at least
four hundred million dollars in value. Will Kyle Tucker land
a four hundred dollars four hundred million dollar free agent
(02:31:24):
contract this off season? One of us said yes, he will,
The other one of us said no, Which one of
us said, yes, he will get a four hundred million
dollar contract this off season. Seven one three two one
two five seven nine. If you know the answer to
that very important, a team related question, and those tickets
could be yours, We'll have a couple of winners today,
(02:31:46):
So fire away at that number seven one three two
one two five seven ninety. One of the two of
us thinks Kyle's getting a four hundred million dollar free
agent contract.
Speaker 1 (02:31:53):
Which one of us is it? All right? What do
you got? All Right? Here we go. The Rockets are
looking for number twelve tonight. But they still haven't played
nearly as many games as like everybody else in the league,
and they're gonna have like a bunch of time off
between the end of the Jazz games and their next game. Correct,
that's when the little window is or is it before that?
Speaker 2 (02:32:15):
Well, they have three days off after tonight, the first
of the Jazz that's right, that's right, and then there'll
be a little bit of a break during the Here
are your newly scheduled games, because now we know who
advanced and who didn't and will fill out the rest
of your December schedule.
Speaker 1 (02:32:27):
Right. So in that vein there's a graphic release and
this is clearly a Memphis Grizzlies themed graphic because it's
from the number one fan page for Grizzlies basketball.
Speaker 6 (02:32:40):
Go.
Speaker 1 (02:32:41):
Is that your tip? Every team's most disappointing player this year,
like this season, not all time. That's very so since
October twenty first. Yes, every team's most disappointing player and
it should be fun. Obviously the Rockets for last year,
we will, okay, Obviously the Grizzlies is Ja Morant because
he is on the graphic. But not to be outdone,
(02:33:03):
although he is bigger than him on the graphic. The MAVs,
this is pretty easy. Anthony Davis. Yeah, he's not out there.
The Hawks. I'm gonna go in alphabetical order from from
here on out. The Hawks won is kind of a
surprise because you wouldn't think it about this guy and
that a lot of people think he's one of, if
not their best players.
Speaker 2 (02:33:22):
Just a little tidbit on the Hawks. They lost last
night to the then one win Wizards.
Speaker 1 (02:33:29):
Yeah, well that was another team that I think, if
I'm not mistaken, John Hollinger thought was going to do
things this year. Give the name. His name's Trey Young.
Trey Young has played in five games. Yeah, well, that's
disappointing as it is for Derek White. Some people's trade
target of the Houston Rockets. See that's funny because a
(02:33:51):
little surprising. Well, I would think that their most disappointing
player would be Jason Tatum because he ripped his achilles
and isn't playing.
Speaker 6 (02:33:57):
For the up.
Speaker 1 (02:33:57):
He didn't get hurt this he didn't get hurt since December.
Thought about the first year's team when he was ripping
up his leg last year. I guess I could be wrong,
but I thought Derek White was playing well. They're just
not a good team. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (02:34:10):
Then he is not playing well. He's shooting thirty five percent.
Well done, Memphis, Chris, Yeah, great job the Nets.
Speaker 1 (02:34:16):
Cam Thomas another guy that a lot of Rockets supposed
fans thought they should.
Speaker 2 (02:34:22):
Go get he's the second most favorite. Cam Thomas on
Sports Talk seven ninety, who's the first wex MAT's kid?
Speaker 1 (02:34:31):
Okay, Pat Kah and I love this because they didn't
want to spell his name out gonna work work anymore.
They just put Pat Kahn for Conaton, which I like
that because I don't like him. It should be Lamello,
that's true. Patrick Williams for the Bulls. Whatever, Lonzo Ball,
that's not nice speaking of the Ball brothers, Lonzo, dude,
(02:34:53):
what do you want from the guy he's playing? Where
You've got to find somebody because they're all so good?
That's okay.
Speaker 2 (02:35:01):
I mean, I guess coming off of a three fifth
fifteen performance two nights ago, maybe he helped make the list, so.
Speaker 1 (02:35:06):
We already did. Anthony Davis Cam Johnson for the Nuggets
is a very good solid is correct. It's the number one,
so it's not even close.
Speaker 2 (02:35:12):
He's been sucked shockingly absent from their efforts.
Speaker 1 (02:35:16):
Tobias Harris for the now thirteen wins in a row Pistons. Again,
you gotta find somebody. The Warriors is perfect. Al Horford
great signing. Whoever is their GM now? This now is
Al Horford available tonight. Probably not. He is not exactly shocking.
Jay Huff for the Pacers, doesn't matter, they have two wins.
Bradley Beale for the Clippers. Out for the year, Yeah,
(02:35:38):
pick one. They all sucked this year except for that
one night where James had fifty five, but you're still terrible. Yeah,
they won that night against Charlotte. Gabe Vincent for the Lakers,
just I can't wait until the Utter. Just tear down
of that roster. It's gonna be awesome around Lucas. Why
would you tear down a twelve and four teams roster?
They're not twelve and four for real? Okay, they suck
(02:36:00):
a right we did. Jaw Terry Rozier for the Heat. Yeah,
I'd say indicted by the FEDS is a good reason.
Speaker 6 (02:36:07):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (02:36:07):
Cole Anthony for the Milwaukee Bucks. That's a good one
in that he just looks like he's a guy that's
passed his prime. Okay. Rudy Gobert, your favorite center make
the list every year for the Timberwolves. Kevon Looney for
the Pelicans hasn't been the same since he took off
that Warriors Jersey not a good free agent signing. Mitchell
(02:36:27):
Robinson for the Knicks. Stupid only hits threes when he
plays the Rockets. Lou Dort for the Oklahoma City Thunder.
I can't believe he still starts for the Imagine how
good they'd be if he was playing. Well, Imagine how
good they'd be if they got rid of him.
Speaker 2 (02:36:41):
Like, is someone trying to say they'd be undefeated if
they if he was. Probably he's only seventeen in one Trailblazers.
Desmond Bane for the Magic I like this one. He
hasn't hit Read in the back of the head and
then talk to him about it.
Speaker 6 (02:36:56):
What not?
Speaker 1 (02:36:56):
Sure, but you can get tripped by him, Yeah, and
then he gets a flagrant because he tripped you whatever
intentionally he should have because the refs weren't doing their job.
Scott Foster Paul George for the Sixers. I don't think
that's an incomplete He came back the other night and
was good.
Speaker 2 (02:37:11):
He doesn't play, he does now great. How many games
does he played this year?
Speaker 1 (02:37:16):
Two? Six, four, seven, Yang Hansen, I don't even know
who that is. He was their draft pick this year.
Paul George's played three times. Nick Richards I agree with
that one because he was a jerk the other night
for the Suns.
Speaker 2 (02:37:27):
He they know nobody mentioned it after he elbowed a
man in the face and ran him over. He gave
him one of those kid get out of here, brother.
Speaker 1 (02:37:37):
I would too if Shingoon was not even cooking me
and I was down double digits. What else? Dennis Shrewder
your favorite in Sacramento, Devin Vessel and San Antonio who
cares about them? Emmanuel Quickly in Toronto, which they're all
of a sudden good. What's that about Kyle Philipowski in Utah,
which I think he had a season ending injury. No,
he's still out there. Who's the one for them? Who's
(02:37:57):
a big man for them? The Walker Kessler, that's right?
And Chris Middleton for the Wizards. Not money for a
player who's not real good anymore. Now we get to
the Houston Rockets. Okay, let me see if I can
guess this is the most disappointing player this season for
that team. I don't have a guess. I don't know.
It's it reads and I quote literally nobody. This is
(02:38:20):
a Memphis Grizzlies fan page that came up with his graphic.
And even they know who's the most. There isn't one
what a season. Even if you were to try to
be like non Homer about it, who would you say?
Speaker 2 (02:38:32):
I know this isn't best of X, but we'll go
to some of the comments. Uh huh, Exotic Pop says
tell Kelvin Cato, we want our money back.
Speaker 1 (02:38:39):
I love that guy.
Speaker 2 (02:38:41):
Oh my Houston Rockets having no disappointments, big eyeball emoji, Nah,
chill ban ain't disappointing at all. We love him over
here loud Dort Houston on top love my Rockets, absolutely
love him. Calling jaw out most disappointing player is wild
work from a grizz fan age, and they're so accurate,
(02:39:03):
literally nobody. Usually careers are derailed by things other than immaturity,
but he's walking that path rather briskly.
Speaker 1 (02:39:13):
Final score for the Colts, Texans and Rockets Warriors.
Speaker 2 (02:39:16):
Go combined now one hundred and fifty seven to what
did I say?
Speaker 1 (02:39:22):
The over on the Texans, So I gotta get forty
four and a half huh Texans twenty four, Colts twenty one,
twenty seven to twenty Houston okay, and the Rockets will
unfortunately ruin the beginning of your Thanksgiving. They're losing to
the Warriors tonight based on what oh Stef Curry's thirty
(02:39:45):
seven huo, Jimmy Butler suso thirty seven You kidding me
right now? Don't ruin anybody's Thanksgiving and give me a
real final score. One nineteen one, fourteen rockets. Okay, I'll
go one twenty one, all right, and then Kevin Durant
(02:40:07):
should return for the games against the Jazz and they
are screwed when that happens.
Speaker 2 (02:40:11):
Enjoy your weekend, everybody, have a wonderful Thanksgiving, family, friends,
and fun. We will reconvene on Monday after the Texans
and Colts get together.
Speaker 1 (02:40:21):
We'll talk to you then at two
