The things we talked about off the air.
Speaker 5 (00:55):
It is the eighteen Sports Talk seven to ninety back
at it again here at two o'clock. Just like I
promised yesterday, I told you we'd be here. It is
to straight up two o'clock. It is a Tuesday edition
of the program. We got a lot to get to,
a lot of leftovers from yesterday. By the way, I
was thinking about this mother in law is in town
and she has cooked every single night she's been here since.
(01:18):
She didn't cook on Friday night when she flew in late,
but she was here for Carson's birthday over the weekend,
and she has cooked every day since she got here.
How do you feel, wex as we start the show
today with all the things we need to get to,
just very important, how do you feel about leftovers?
Speaker 4 (01:35):
I've never asked you this question.
Speaker 5 (01:37):
We know each other for over twenty years, I've never
asked you this question because I have a very strong
opinion about leftovers. As it pertains to meals that are
cooked at home and that you take home from the restaurant.
Speaker 4 (01:49):
Leftovers are no different than the meal they originally were
cooked for. What do you mean by that? Did you
order it? Yes? Did you ask for it to be
made or make it yourself? Yes? Okay, case closed. What
does that mean? Do you like them or not? It's
the same food, It's not the same. Yes it is.
It's the same food. But it doesn't it's not. So
you just corrected yourself. Yes it is.
Speaker 5 (02:10):
It's not the same presentation of the same food. You
understand what I mean? If you have to zap it,
I don't like it. I do not like leftovers.
Speaker 4 (02:18):
Well, you don't have to zap it. What do you mean?
There are more ways to make it warm and tasty
than just the fast, easy, worst way and correct I mean,
I know you want to live in this society. Everybody
hears it every day, mister microwave society over here. He
wants to zap is food. Geez man, what year is it? Oh?
Caap is food. But here's the thing, when when there's
another game on it here in the studio, and we
(02:40):
want to go from the Tigers game to the Cubs game.
Do you want me to hand you the clicker? Okay?
What am I supposed to say? If you have to
warm it, microwave it, make it hot, reheat it, you
zap it. You know why you say zap because it's
three letters.
Speaker 5 (02:54):
And if everybody else can use acronyms and all that
kind of stuff because of their lazy speech patterns, then
I'm gonna was the shortest word possible to talk about
microwaving food.
Speaker 4 (03:02):
Hey, Hey, Hey, how was your day? I was fine.
What did you end up eating? Well, Robin, I went
into the fridge and we had pizza, chicken, queso, tacos.
Well what you have? All of it? Okay?
Speaker 5 (03:18):
So you like leftovers and I don't. We've established that
with fun there. I don't desire.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
Oh my god, I can't wait to go home and
eat these leftovers. But if they're there, I'm all about
keeping them there because I'm going to eat it. If
I ordered the food at the restaurant, I don't expect
I have a brain, man, I don't expect it to
be as good as it was when it was served
to be hot and fresh at the restaurant that I
chose to go to and pay for it. But I
will still eat it and enjoy it when I eat
(03:44):
it the next day, the next morning, later that night.
I mean, the ultimate leftover food can be phenomenal even
not heated, although I heat mine pizza, no see, And
that's another thing, like the ovens, and like there's so
many ways to make it taste really really good even
(04:04):
though it's not gonna be ideal and best from the restaurant.
But I'm not. I'm not throwing it out, matter of
factly edible. And I have had absolute knockdown, drag out
conversations leftover cold pizza. How long how long has it
been there? No, honey, you can't have it. Well, I'm
eating it anyway.
Speaker 5 (04:19):
At least once a day. This is no joke, and
I did it today. I will open the refrigerator. Usually
it's to get some water in this huge thing right
here that sounds like a bomb's going off when I
drop it on the floor, and I will look at
just miles and miles of leftovers in trays that I'll
never eat, and I'll think to myself, that's never getting eaten,
and it won't even get eaten by the person who
(04:39):
put it in there thinking they're gonna eat it. I
don't understand why we don't just throw it out.
Speaker 4 (04:43):
There's also you know, you guys have two and a
half people at home. If you make a meal at home,
it's got to be perfectly portioned out so there's no leftovers,
or you've always that eating, or you eat it all
I mean everybody else. And I'm saying there are more
ways to get yourself to leftovers. If there's a nice
recipe you like to follow, it's made for so many people,
(05:03):
and you could only half and half and third and
third the recipe. Like sometimes you make more food than
the people at your home are going to eat, and
you put it in the fridge and you eat it
again the next day and it's awesome. All right, we're
gonna agree to disagree. Say one thing that I really
really wish, uh huh. I wish our show was either
well done enough, properly planned enough, or long enough yesterday
that every single thing we wanted to get to yesterday
(05:26):
we would have so you wouldn't have been able to
stay leftovers at two Oho one.
Speaker 5 (05:30):
Well, I'll tell you what the biggest leftover of all
is gonna completely change the complexion of this week's Texans game.
We kind of talked about it a little bit that
Lamar Jackson got hurt.
Speaker 4 (05:40):
As much as you like to talk about your predictions
heading into the weekend, Lamar Jackson wasn't playing on Sunday,
and we have a report suggesting that very thing. Today
we were talking about their schedule and that the off
week for the Ravens is just one more game away.
So if he's kind of hurt and he shouldn't be
out there, then he probably wasn't going to be out there.
And maybe the same thing is true for them a
(06:01):
week from now, when the Texans no longer care except
they're playing the same We got to get ourselves into
the playoff picture that the Ravens are, so maybe they
do care. But two teams presumably in the race for
the postseason in the same division now, the Bengals without
Joe Burrow look kind of like, well what leftovers are
to Clinton see? And if the Ravens start one in
(06:25):
three with Lamar Jackson, I mean, I hate to think
the Texans against Cooper Rush for the second year in
a row, is going to deliver Cooper Rush a victory
for the first time in a row. Otherwise, they're one
and four with Cooper Rush as they're starting quarterback. As
the Texans get to two and three, as the Texans
look a little presumably with a win, they'll look a
little bit more like a team that has a chance
(06:47):
to find themselves in the postseason. So we knew that
they had a lot of guys banged up and many
guys were going to miss the game. It hasn't become
official yet. It's Tuesday before a Sunday game. Might not
even become official tomorrow when the Even's get on the
practice field and John Harbaugh meets with the media. But
probably have a pretty good idea if the report today
that two to three weeks missed time for Lamar Jackson
(07:09):
his hamstring injury, is what the expectation is. Well in
the Texans, like I said, for the second season in
a row. When they played the Cowboys last year in
November and Dak Prescott was hurt, well, they got to
face Cooper Rush and he threw fifty five passes and
it helped the Cowboys score ten points and the blowout
Texans lopsided sacked him five times victory.
Speaker 5 (07:33):
Is it safe to say the given what we just
got done talking about, and given what we talked a
little bit about yesterday, and I think it will continue
to be a topic this week, especially in light of
this Lamar Jackson news that the defense for the Baltimore
Ravens is stinky as you like to say. Is this
the first time since well two thousand and two, I
don't remember if they played in that year.
Speaker 4 (07:54):
I don't think they did.
Speaker 5 (07:55):
Is this the best chance that Texans have ever had
to win at Baltimore because they've ever done Yeah, I agree.
Speaker 4 (08:02):
And it's not the best team they've taken there the
way they're currently playing, not at all.
Speaker 5 (08:08):
Matter of fact, they should have won for the first
time there in the postseason with probably the best team
in franchise history, for being honest.
Speaker 4 (08:15):
Maybe sans the quarterback. Well, the quarterback was art So TJ.
Texter is trying to do it. Yes, I believe that
was a twenty to thirteen final. I think he targeted
Courtland Finnegan's friend like sixteen times in that game, and
everybody knew it, and so it resulted in a few
interceptions that the Texan certainly could have done without, and
(08:36):
unfortunately they came up a little short. It was pretty
clear a lot of other guys were blamed for lots
of other things that happened in that game. Jones rest
in the special teams game, and I still didn't believe
it then and I don't now, even though, yeah, technically
it's a mistake, Yeah they came up short. Then I
would agree that was a pretty good group this team
was supposed. They've battled Baltimore, Kansas City in Buffalo the
(08:57):
last two years since CJ and Demiko and Will Anderson
all been here. They've beaten Buffalo in the regular season.
They have been to Buffalo or been to Baltimore in
the postseason. They've been to Kansas City in the postseason.
They've seen both of those teams each of the last
two years. We'll see them again this year. We'll see
Buffalo again this year. They've played them a lot. They
haven't had much success against them. And those are the
teams that we keep thinking, well, they're the ones that
(09:19):
are definitely ahead of them. So far this year, more
AFC teams have gotten ahead of them, but these are
still the only three teams that you clearly have not
played well against that matter, can they beat some of
these other teams. They'll get the Chargers later this year,
obviously we're going to see them play a different Ravens team.
They get the Buffalo Bills later. So at some point
(09:41):
you got to do it. And it's only the regular season,
but it's all you have until you get to that
opportunity in the postseason. Not to mention if they're one
and four and you're two and three and neither one
of you think it's going to take more than ten
or eleven wins to get to a division crown, which
then both of you could still win. Well, maybe they're
coming to Houston this year because you beat them in
(10:05):
the regular season and a tiebreaker would be in your
favor if it came to that.
Speaker 5 (10:10):
What a weird scenario and a weird start to the
season for I don't want to say it's weird for
both of these teams, because I do think some of
what has happened, at least offensively for the Texans was predictable.
Speaker 4 (10:21):
Yeah, it's weird for them, It's not weird. Yeah, Texans,
in my opinion.
Speaker 5 (10:24):
Well, their schedule has a lot to do with that.
But then if you fancy yourself a Super Bowl contender,
and I certainly did, and I know they did organizationally,
you got to win some of these games that have
come down to a.
Speaker 4 (10:35):
Play here or a play there after.
Speaker 5 (10:37):
Oh, it is a game of inches, but that's really
I mean, they are a whisper away from having a
very different record, but they just haven't gotten those plays
to go their way this year.
Speaker 4 (10:47):
Yeah, you don't have to win them all when your
schedule is what it is for the Ravens, but you
got to win one of them. They haven't won any
of them. They lost to the Bills, they lost to
the Lions, they lost to the Chiefs, and the last game,
the most recent game, was lopsided against them. So it
hasn't gotten better, it's gotten worse. Gave the game away,
we all think on opening night when they gave up
forty one points and had a fifteen point lead. Yeah,
it's good competition. There's a couple of teams that have
(11:09):
had an incredibly difficult first four games of the season
with who they're up against and what we think they're
still going to be this year. In Baltimore's one of them.
But they've lost them all and that's what's unexpected. That's
why the word weird would certainly fit in. I fancy
them as a Super Bowl contender, and as long as
Lamar Jackson is healthy and they reach the postseason, they'll
still be a tough out. Even though he plays his
(11:29):
worst football at the worst at the best time for
everybody else and the worst time for him, he's not
been particularly good in the postseason. He hasn't been quite
as bad as everyone thinks, but he's clearly been a
lot lesser of a player then, And if that's who
you're counting on to make plays, then it hasn't worked
out very well for the Ravens. Get on the practice
field tomorrow for the first time this week. For the Texans,
(11:50):
they will obviously make some changes with the Cam Robinson trade.
We'll need somebody, probably active, somebody, probably somebody on the
active roster. They obviously have players on the practice squad,
and there's a report that they've signed somebody off of
the Carolina Panthers practice squad to fill in that gap
on their offensive line. Just consider this. I know the
(12:11):
Texans could have just added their own players off of
their own practice squad. But we're heading into Week five
and this is already the third time this season the
Texans have signed a player off of another team's practice squad,
not good enough to be on their game day roster
every week, not good enough to be on their active roster,
and signed them to their active roster, which is all
you can do with practice squad players. Brendon Bates the
(12:34):
tight end two weeks ago, Zion Shoulders the cornerback, and
now an offensive lineman from the Panthers, and of note,
none of them coming from particularly strong outfits. We we'll
see how they impact the team. The Texans are one
to O with Brendon Bates in the lineup. He was
active last Sunday, He got in a handful of snaps
(12:55):
and the Texans did not lose, Casario dominating. It's a GM,
all right, So all of the leftovers from yesterday that
we have to get to on a Thursday. Wow.
Speaker 5 (13:09):
A Tuesday edition of the program. It's Sports Talk seven ninety,
the eighteen on.
Speaker 1 (13:15):
Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 5 (13:24):
It is the A Team. It's Sports Talks seven ninety.
Tuesday edition of the program. Final day of September, my
favorite month. Next month wex it's the anti leftovers of
the holiday season.
Speaker 4 (13:38):
Halloween's my favorite holiday. You know that, right? Everybody knows
that mine too? What, Yeah, it is. I love that
best month of the year. It's great.
Speaker 5 (13:46):
And we actually finally maybe sort of after like a
week from now, could start getting some decent weather. But
not this week. All nineties all nineties fall is not
here for a while.
Speaker 4 (13:56):
All right?
Speaker 5 (13:57):
The uh the Astros have there? Would you call it
a morning period today? Given what happened in twenty twenty five,
I know what it's supposed to be called.
Speaker 4 (14:06):
Other than the years where they win the World Series,
it's very typical. You have it a couple of days
week sometime, usually within the week, you'll have your underseason
media availability. Depending on how things went that year, maybe
you have the opportunity to catch up with the players
after a postseason series so to speak, locker clean out
or season ends like it did. And unfortunately, the team
(14:26):
was on the road, so not everybody covers the team
the way that they should be covered and travels with them,
so limited access to all of the players that came
on Sunday, and there was no additional availability for the players.
They weren't there today for us to talk to them,
but we did get the end of season media availability
for the twenty twenty five manager and the twenty twenty
five general manager, Dana Brown the general manager, Joe A.
(14:49):
Spota the manager, both of whom had a weekly hits
on our station all throughout the year, and we certainly
appreciate that a spot a mid days with the Matt
Thomas Show and Ross and of course Dana Brown each
and every week Wednesday morning with the Sean Salisbury Show.
But I was out there earlier today. First question for
the two of them, as they took the press conference
in tandem, just sat up there at the table together.
(15:10):
Chandler Rome, also a weekly guest here on Sports Talk
seven to ninety, joined us each and every Friday during
the season. First question for Dana Brown was about his
personal situation and the contractual situation with the ball club,
asking if there was an option year for him coming
(15:31):
up into twenty twenty six and the status of that
and thus the status of his own position, and secondarily
similar question about Joe Aspata and his situation. So, Nicole,
we'll start with Dana Brown's answer about his own situation
as general manager of the Houston Astros moving forward.
Speaker 6 (15:47):
As I said, I'm the gym of the Astros, and
that's what I would expect to be tomorrow, the next day,
next day.
Speaker 4 (15:55):
Well, the as I said is because he had already
said right before that, I don't really want to talk
about my situation, because he clearly he was asked a
very direct question, is is there an option year on
your contract heading into this offseason? And the answer he
gave without words was yes, because I'm not firmly in
(16:15):
place here for next year. Was the way he answered
the question. Whether that's true or not, that is absolutely
the way he answered the question, and the way he
repeated his answer the as I said, and you heard
him tail off with that, I am the general manager
of the Astros, as I expect to be tomorrow and
the next day and the next day. Really no other
way to say it, if that's the way he wanted
to go about it. But it also to me, I'm
(16:37):
trying to read too much between the lines and take
the words for the words that they are. But there
are other ways to answer the question. If the same
things are still true, but you already know you're going
to be back, we'll work it out things will happen,
and we'll put this team first and make sure we
get done what we need to get done this off
season to get this team back where it belongs, which
(16:58):
is in the playoffs, which is chasing World Series championships.
It's not the answer that was given, and so I
wouldn't take it to be the answer that should have
been given. I took the answer for what it was,
a one that for me, while I sat there and
watched him answer it an extremely unconfident answer about his
future with the Astros. Whether that's true, I don't know.
That was how I heard it.
Speaker 5 (17:19):
Well, Number one, you if you are the GM of
the team and you haven't won the World Series, you
have to ask that question, because even a guy who
did win the World Series got fired like five hours
after the confetti was done.
Speaker 4 (17:31):
Yeah, two gms have won it, every other one hasn't
in the team's history. But I mean the same thing
goes for the manager. Obviously, Yeah, two guys have won it.
Every other manager in team history had.
Speaker 5 (17:44):
But having said that, just since the subject has come up,
and since for whatever reason, this does seem like it's
a thing, don't you think Jim Crane would kill to
have James Click running this team right now? Part two
of this question, Are you surprised he hasn't already gotten
another GM gig since leaving.
Speaker 4 (18:06):
I'll take the second question first. Yes, I am. I'm very,
very very surprised by that, and I'm not surprised at
all that the team he's been working with is a well.
They had the best record in the American League this year.
I guess that's pretty good. He and George Spring are
headed to the postseason.
Speaker 5 (18:22):
Not Detroit. Not all these teams have been at the top.
It was the team James Click is with who's famously
underachieved for a long time.
Speaker 4 (18:31):
With a lot of these same guys, Yeah, they haven't
had the ability to put a season or they just
haven't put a season like this together. Now he and
whomever else are the decision makers. There were the ones
that said, absolutely, let's break the bank for Anthony Santander,
who basically was hurt all year. Yep, he was terrible
at the beginning of the year, and they spent the
last several months away and then hit a minor league
(18:53):
home run that included a forty four second trot around
the bases, which is something I've never seen before from
a rehab being major league baseball player. I don't know
what was behind it. I don't know if he answered
questions about it and gave a reason why he would.
I mean, I've said so long, these guys that hit
home runs and batflip and take their time, I don't
really it doesn't bother me. At the major league level there,
(19:14):
I don't think they're showing up the pitcher. I think
they're showing their teammates excitement and being excited for what
they've done. And if there's history, maybe it's a little different.
I couldn't understand that. But nonetheless, the first question was
would Jim Crane kill for James Click to be the
general manager? Your phrasing makes me say no, because how
(19:34):
hard would it be to have them as the GM?
You don't fire him and he's your GM. Correct, So
he would not kill for James Click. We would everybody
who watched him work probably wouldn't make person. I'd kill
for Jeff Luno. First. I think we're doing Dana a
little bit of a disservice and maybe propping up James
Click a little bit too much. Dana hasn't been able
(19:56):
to replicate the success that was in place before he
got there. James Klick was able to replicate the success
that was already in place before he got there, and
I think they are a different time. Like think about
where James Click was with the exodus of players. He
was on the very very front side of it, which
didn't include all of them. Dana is on the very
(20:18):
very very very other end of it, so much so
that he was inclined to send one of them away
a year before their contract was up.
Speaker 5 (20:27):
Yes, but there is something to be said for not
screwing up a good thing. And as easy as it
might seem on the surface, James Klick did a masterful
job of accomplishing just that. We're not going to bleep
this up and we're going to add to it.
Speaker 4 (20:44):
The twenty twenty two championship team is it has his
fingerprints all over it. I know that he won.
Speaker 5 (20:51):
He the organization won with a lot of the core
that Jeff Luno put in place, but from his office
to the scouting department on down, not screwing that up
to the point that you can win another one. There's
something to be said for that, and he had a
very big part to do with that.
Speaker 4 (21:07):
Yeah, and again from Dana's side of things, this is
year two running things and the ability to three. After
the twenty two World Series, he came in for twenty three,
four and five, excuse me twenty third, season two with
Joe one with Dusty. What is it that he was
supposed to do this year? Why is it on him?
(21:29):
Why would you get rid of him? Why has he
made the biggest mistakes to prevent this team from keeping
things at least in the postseason? Winning at all, obviously,
is pretty elusive. The Astros didn't win eight times, they
made it to the playoffs eight times. They didn't win
four World Series. They made it to the World Series
four times. Winning it all is still a goal, and
trying to replicate what's done that's pretty lofty and not
(21:51):
very easy to do. But this team did not make
the playoffs, so there's a clear line in the sand
of what you're attempting to do and how far short
you fell. And I just can't get past what did
you want the guy to do this year?
Speaker 5 (22:03):
And let's not forget if it weren't for like a
home win, he would have had it, probably in all
likelihood his own World Series Championship because the twenty three
team was technically his.
Speaker 4 (22:15):
Oh well, there's no question about it. Technically he was
his right, I don't think there's much of a question.
We would have expected them, and the odds makers would
have made them the favorites to win the World Series
over the Arizona Diamondbacks, and they were that caliber of team,
So it was almost it was very unexpected that they
couldn't get to the World Series after four games or
five games or six games of a series, obviously not
(22:38):
even in seven games because of what they had done before.
But strictly to this season, his third the worst the Astros,
fewest wins they've had during this entire run of making
the playoffs, just eighty seven of them in a full
season's worth of games. Like just for this year and
even going into this year, like, what did you want
him to do? You wanted him to trade for pitching?
(22:58):
Is the one thing I think people will say, trade
for pitching at the deadline, and then you're gonna tell
me you should have traded for Dylan Ceese. I just
don't see it. They lost this year for one obvious reason,
and it's because it happened thirty five times they got it,
they got hurt. I'm not saying they're the winning the
World Series without injuries. They're one hundred percent making the
playoffs without injuries, one hundred percent. They're like ninety eight
(23:21):
point five percent winning the division without injuries. And I
don't mean no injuries. I just mean a small fraction
to go away injuries. And they're probably not playing today
without injuries. They're probably waiting until Saturday to see who
they play, because they would have been further into the
playoffs in twenty twenty five, as in not the third
(23:43):
best division winner than they were a year ago, if
not for I hope, the worst season of injuries during
our sports talk radio lifetimes. I know they've been around
for longer than sports talk radio, and there may have
been some years where the Cult forty five's training staff
couldn't keep guys on the field or the hey man,
this astronome is a neat building. I sure hope I
(24:03):
can play more than one hundred and fifty four games here,
but in recent memory, there's nothing that anybody can point
at to a team that has had to figure it
out with players that are not major leaguers. They're not
even four a players they just happened to be in
your system, and you had to call them up, and
you had to play them, and you had to pitch them,
and on and on and on and on. Your best
(24:25):
players were hurt, best closer, only closes are hurt. Best
three offensive players hurt, and not for a week, not
for a weekend series, not for a ten day stint
or a fifteen day stint on the aisle, but for
months and months at the time. All that being said,
greating a general manager over a three year period is
a much bigger question to answer than what we just said.
(24:45):
And that's why I don't think there was a whole
lot of clarity from their meat with the media today.
A spot of clarity, as I mentioned, also a bit
of an unknown I think, but the way questions were
answered today, and obviously some things about the team in
general and what their offseason plans are. And from ber Valdez,
they're most prominent free agent. Not many free agents off
this roster heading into twenty twenty six, but he's certainly
(25:07):
at the front of the line. We'll get into all
of those things on the other side of Best of X,
which comes your way two thirty each and every weekday afternoon.
Speaker 1 (25:14):
Here on the eighteen, the A team on Sports Talk
seven ninety.
Speaker 4 (25:23):
Did you all see this?
Speaker 7 (25:24):
We're putting out between five and fifteen.
Speaker 4 (25:27):
Posts a day. Four hundred people were arrested.
Speaker 2 (25:29):
So they said on social media, history.
Speaker 7 (25:32):
Repeats itself type bang, you'll succeed.
Speaker 4 (25:36):
Never doubt that you're.
Speaker 2 (25:38):
The one who pus for no one building lead.
Speaker 4 (25:41):
You're the best of X. Nothing's gonna have a top.
Speaker 7 (25:45):
You know you're the best of X posting ever seen day.
You know you're the best of X, breaking the entire engine.
Speaker 5 (26:02):
All right, best of X on a Tuesday edition of
the program. Before we get into this situation, I want
to bring something up about the the facility and specifically
the turf that this happened on. MetLife Stadium has to
have like an inordinate amount of injuries, season ending and otherwise,
(26:25):
versus like every other stadium currently used in the NFL.
Speaker 4 (26:28):
No uh. I mean, there's data on it, but I
don't know what it is. And to the naked eye,
the perception is exactly what you said. It kind of
feels that way.
Speaker 5 (26:38):
Well, Malite Neighbors is the latest casualty. Odell Beckham Junior
by the Way has gone out of his way to
talk about this because he calls it death Life Stadium.
That's so awesome, dear NFL. I mean this with the
utmost love and respect. We the NFL take all the
(26:59):
percoc in the world with everything else when it comes
to players, quote health and safety. Please please please, that's
PLZ by the way, three times, get rid of the turf.
Speaker 4 (27:13):
Thank you in advance.
Speaker 5 (27:14):
He did that Sunday night after Molik Neighbors went down
with a torn acl He went on to say, respect
and know and you know, I love the Giants, but
death Life has taken too many talented players away from
the game. I know it's not all the Turf's fault,
but at least maybe it to where we've gotten all
research done to if Turf has to say it's at
(27:36):
the highest of quality possible, at least we can start
the discussion.
Speaker 4 (27:39):
He wants to have a dialogue. That's very nice. I'm
glad that he wants to have a dialogue. I just
know way he said that at the end of that post.
I know, not that last part I made that up
and the other thing just one other part of it,
Like it's totally selfish and really not a part of
it all. But the thing that I like about turf
the pellet turfs specifically, and we see it every Sunday
(28:02):
or Monday or Thursday. You can tell if a receiver
dragged his feet or not. Oh yeah, you can tell
if they visual downs because it's so clear when the
pellets pop up.
Speaker 5 (28:12):
Who was the cowboys that made the catch on the
sideline the other night? You could Jalen Tolbert, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (28:18):
You could tell the text that made the catch on
the sideline on Sunday where one foot was down and
the other foot was five feet off the ground. So
they had to review it to make sure it wasn't
a catch that was nico. It happens, But yes, that
has nothing to do with the safety of it and
everything to do with the It helps with calls, It
helps with the officials, It helps with reviews, and I
think it certainly helps with them on the live calls
(28:40):
of those very difficult to officiate situations because there's really
four eyes on it. The two officials that are in
position to see two different things, well three different things. Basically,
one was the catch made and secured and the feet
did they both get in or in knee or all
the things that go into making a catch. But Malik
Neighbors app played one game, part of one game with
(29:02):
the presumed future of the New York Giants at quarterback,
Jackson Dart. He's obviously there. I would think their most
talented offensive player. They had some good games already this
year with the what they did against the Cowboys. He
and Wandale Robinson. These are the kind of players the
league should not want to miss seasons due to injuries
that may be related to the quality of the products
(29:25):
they're playing on. Well, you mentioned Robinson.
Speaker 5 (29:27):
Since twenty ten, Nick Bosa, Solomon Thomas, jabro Peppers, Wandale Robinson,
Sterling Shepherd, Kyle Fuller, Aaron Rodgers, and now the Leak
Neighbors have torn their acls just that specific injury while
playing at quote Death Life Stadium.
Speaker 4 (29:43):
Yeah. ACL injuries usually when they're written about or talked about,
we almost always say that that's ooh, that was a
non contact injury. Yeah, the contact wasn't from another player.
It was your leg with the turk, the concrete. It
was why it happened. It's a it is a non
contact It's rare that as someone is tackled and that's
when their knee gets twisted into an ACL tear. I
(30:06):
don't know how to describe the injury on the other
field last night, the outdoor field that Joe Robbie, we'll
call it hard rock Stadium there and rare to us.
We're going to play the rest of the twenty twenty
five season, I am sure without Tyreek Hill, but for
our purposes here in Best of X, that topic for later.
Malik neighbors out for the year with an ACL.
Speaker 5 (30:26):
Yeah, and by the way, just one more thing before
we get to what he did. They carted out that
turf this summer for the Club World Cup, put in
some natural grass, and then the actual World Cup next
summer will likely replace that turf again with natural grass.
Speaker 4 (30:44):
Yeah. We know, there's a lot of factors, so it's
not as simple as just put whatever in his best
for the players indoor outdoor weather related things. There are
a lot of things at play, but one of the
biggest factors is financial and teams make a lot of
decisions based on that above all else.
Speaker 5 (31:00):
Well, and that's I mean, it's it was a huge
topic here and obviously Demiko Ryans, the current head coach
sued the Texans over the turf that was here, the
natural grass at the time that had the scenes that
wouldn't exactly lock together the way maybe they should have.
Speaker 4 (31:18):
Can we get to the best of X portions of
rous Oh yeah.
Speaker 5 (31:20):
He went to a He went to a talking about
Malie neighbors. He went to see Young Boy, okay specifically
straight from the game.
Speaker 4 (31:28):
Basically essentially, so we know he went to the concert
because he posted it on his social media. It was
on his Instagram and then grabbed and pulled over to
the X platform. Is there a series of comments on this?
Oh well, the captions best of X broke caption. Yeah,
bro went to Young Boy before seeing a doctor. That
(31:49):
is inaccurate. It's yeah, but it's essentially not true. It's
it's pretty was a pretty quick turnaround. What do you
think he does when he's at the stadium. What do
you mean sees a doctor? Oh wow, you're you're going
the semantics route. No, I'm going the literal route. I know.
Just then, how do you know he tores acl because
(32:12):
the doctor told him it's not a literal caption? Dude,
Come on, Tara B. Tracy Junior, get with the program.
If you're gonna be a part of the A team
the best of X, and you have no idea about it,
then you gotta be literal. Semantics will get you every time.
But if that's why you're the movement, because you have
(32:33):
the motion, then go right ahead. As it says in
Tara B. Tracy Junior's bio.
Speaker 5 (32:37):
You have to wait for the swelling to go down
before they can even operate.
Speaker 4 (32:41):
See they're justifying it now. You're he the commenter and
the caption itself and our discussion here today makes me
think Tara B. Tracy Junior might have wanted to say
bro went to see Young Boy before even having surgery. Yeah,
that maybe is where he could have been headed with this.
But no, it's all right. I'm appreciative of this. Not
(33:03):
appreciative enough to make a second follow strictly based on
Best of X, but appreciative of that it got it
to best of that.
Speaker 5 (33:09):
What about the guy who's said, going, let your boy
pulled up like it was make a wish?
Speaker 4 (33:14):
That's not right.
Speaker 5 (33:16):
Are you okay with the he's not terminal, it's just
an ACL injury.
Speaker 4 (33:20):
Are you down with the comment about his gear at
the Young Boy show? Oh? The Iron Maiden shirt. Roh
never heard an Iron Maiden song in his life? Or wow,
an Iron Maiden shirt. I wasn't familiar with your game.
Opposite ends of it. I like this guy.
Speaker 5 (33:33):
The knee isn't going No, the knee ain't going anywhere. Besides,
he needs to let the swelling go down anyway before
they cut.
Speaker 4 (33:41):
Yeah, where are my surgeon's at now? It's a picture
of him and probably an acquaintance of his, right, Yes,
we'll call him an acquaintance of his whoever it might be. Whoever, Well,
that's not really even the point of who it actually is,
although many will know someone decided to get on that person,
uh snapping a zoom in picture of the person he's with.
(34:02):
We'll just because say the person he's with and the
laughing emoji. Another midget on his tiptoes because you totally
see the person who is with him. We'll just call
him that, who's not quite the height of the NFL
football player in the push picture, who is using crutches
because he's seen the doctor is on his tiptoes for
the picture. As a Pats fan, this is wide receiver
(34:24):
one behavior boom. That's pretty good. It's great yeah, as usual.
Speaker 5 (34:29):
The responses, the replies, what have you never ever disappoint?
Speaker 4 (34:35):
Now?
Speaker 5 (34:35):
What will disappoint a lot of Ravens fans is that
their quarterback won't play this week in all likelihood against
the Texans.
Speaker 4 (34:42):
And maybe won't for a few weeks.
Speaker 5 (34:44):
We'll dive into that topic to wind down the two
o'clock hour next the.
Speaker 1 (34:54):
Age on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 5 (35:07):
People are weird. WEX just starting to point that out.
It is the eighteen Sports Talk seven ninety Tuesday Editions
program taking you into October. Lamar Jackson's not gonna be
playing in October. Maybe all of it, we don't know,
but definitely not this week against the Texans.
Speaker 4 (35:27):
Not official, There you go. I was waiting for.
Speaker 5 (35:30):
But yeah, I'm ninety nine point nine percent sure, having
put him on the bench in my fantasy league, which
is the real test of these such things.
Speaker 4 (35:41):
Yeah, five days out, he's not playing on Sunday. By
the way, I'm just in case. I don't know if
anybody has posted or responded to our best of X
and hit us up on the socials about that. I
repeatedly referred to the person with Malik neighbors by on
purpose that they did that on purpose. I know who
(36:02):
he's in the picture with, and I know who was performing.
You're a huge young boy fan. Just in case anyone
was unaware, I actually am aware, yes, to see the
person on his tiptoes.
Speaker 5 (36:13):
According to the Baltimore Sun and other sources, Ravens quarterback
Lamar Jackson could miss two to three weeks with that
hamstring injury and is likely to miss obviously in that
regard Sunday's game against the Texans. So I mean, look,
this is humongous news for a team like the Texans
(36:34):
is trying to write the ship, and it's about the
worst possible news that you could get if you're another
team trying to write the ship, albeit one that I
don't think anybody was expecting for the season to go
the way it has so far. And again, like we
mentioned earlier, it's not like they were getting blown out
in some of these losses. Just the last one there's
(36:56):
you know, Derreck Henry doesn't fumble. They probably win that
game both times. Yeah, actually, yes, now that you mentioned it,
But you know, Lamar Jackson, that is the closest thing
that we get to the analogy we're always making. Well,
if you have this guy on an NBA team, they're
definitely going to win more because that's how much players
(37:17):
matter to NBA teams. It's not the same in the NFL,
and it's not the same definitely a Major League baseball
it kind of is the same, though, when you're talking
about Lamar Jackson, because he's one of one and he's
a top three quarterback in this league.
Speaker 4 (37:28):
Yeah, they're not trying to and I don't really think
in the year's past they should have ever tried to.
They clearly didn't this time around. Try to find a
backup quarterback that's like him, that plays in a similar way,
that can do some of the things, obviously at a
lesser level than him. That's silly. He's Lamar Jackson. I mean,
Mitch Trubisky is the backup for Josh Allen, you get
you see it. It's just a backup quarterback. You don't
(37:51):
have to find a guy that can replicate what you
do because nobody can. So just find a player that
can play, and I think the Ravens have done that.
I don't think Cooper Rush is ampletely inept at playing
quarterback at the NFL level, But there's a reason why
he's never had a football team, and he's been in
the NFL since twenty seventeen as a backup quarterback, a
lifetime backup quarterback who spent a lot of time quarterbacking
(38:13):
the Cowboys last year and during his eight starts. One
of those games came against the Houston Texans. Mentioned that
earlier through for better than three hundred and fifty yards,
his team scored ten points. He threw one pass to
the Texans, he got sacked five times, and they were
playing the Texans were playing from in front throughout one
easily thirty four to ten. But he's a legitimate backup quarterback.
But that's what he is. You can't have him throwing
(38:34):
passes to Zay Flowers and Zay Flowers beating You can't
have him throwing passes to Mark Andrews and he's beating
you and Rashad Bateman, and you need to revisit your
game plan and hopefully the personnel that went along with
it to what you did against Derreck Henry in twenty
twenty three, with Damico Ryans and Matt Burke here on
the Texans defensive coaching staff, and obviously Will Anderson and
(38:56):
Sheldon rankins a handful of others. For as much as
Derek hen Henry owned the Texans to the anth degree,
the biggest number you can think of, Now, I just
ran for two hundred yards, you mean like he did
last time and the time before that and the time
before that. It was almost unheard of to have that
much outrageous success over and over and over again against
any team the Texans that Derrick Henry did in those
(39:19):
several years with the Titans, and then in twenty twenty
three they owned him both games, did absolutely nothing, ran
for less than a yard per carry in one of
those games. But now he also has a game with
Lamar Jackson in his backfield with him against the Texans,
they did not stop him as a Raven and obviously
they've seen him as a team the Ravens of the
(39:42):
postseason now since Demiko took over, and then both times
of the regular season. The last year's regular season game
was very, very forgettable. Do they go back to Derrick
Henry like they did in Week one like they have
so many times before for the team that's had him Tennessee,
The Ravens have never really been faced with this. They
(40:03):
haven't been as awesome a running football team this year
for the first time in about ten years, Dereck Henry
are not. They're basically the best running football team the AFC,
and the Eagles are the best running football team in
the NFC. It's not true anymore for the Ravens through
four weeks with Lamar and with Derrick Henry. So now,
what are they going to do when they're without Lamar
(40:23):
and they're with Rush and Henry. The Texans can't let
that happen. I'll tell you what they're gonna do. They're
gonna give up a defensive touchdown this weekend. I'm already
calling it now on Tuesday.
Speaker 5 (40:32):
If Lamar doesn't play, regardless of what happens with Derrick Henry,
I think they're gonna give up a defensive touchdown this week.
I think the Texans are gonna get their first of
the year, and I feel pretty good about that. We'll
continue to discuss this subplot because it is massive as
it pertains to both teams heading into Week five. But
we're gonna get to the three o'clock hour coming up next,
(40:53):
We're gonna hear from Dana Brown once again. As the
Astros had their their season ending morning period today over
at Diykin.
Speaker 1 (41:00):
Park, the A team on Sports Talk seven ninety teen.
Lifelong Houston sports guys named Adam Talking Your Team's Adam.
Speaker 3 (41:16):
Clinton and Adam Wexler are the eight team.
Speaker 5 (41:21):
A straight up three o'clock here on a Tuesday edition
of the program. It's Sports Talk seven ninety and now
Space City Home Network.
Speaker 4 (41:31):
Wex over there AC right.
Speaker 5 (41:33):
Here as we are one hour in the books of
this four hour show, but we've already talked about a
ton including Lamar Jackson reportedly missing Sunday's game. It's not
official yet, but I wouldn't look for him to suit
up against the Texans, and as they've never won in Baltimore,
and we talked about this earlier last hour, probably the
(41:53):
best chance that Texans have ever had to get a
victory there, and wex mentioned this isn't even the best
team they've brought up there. But given the circumstances surrounding
both teams right now, I would have to agree that
the recipe for a victory, especially if Cooper Rush is
their quarterback in Baltimore and the Texans defense plays the
(42:16):
way it has been playing for the start of this year.
I made a prediction last segment, I think a defensive
touchdown happens, and I feel like I should start it
now to Tuesday, and I'll just keep riding that all
the way into the weekend until it's right, and then
I'll say I told you so.
Speaker 4 (42:29):
Texans have not taken the ball away a whole lot
so far this year, just three of them, all of
them in the fourth quarter twice looked like it would
help them win games. Did not. Obviously, this last week
it's helped sew up a victory that was already well
in hand with the Derek Singley Junior interception, so well,
I need at least one takeaway if they're going to
also score, and it's definitely something that they should do
(42:50):
more of, considering how their past rus has been pretty good.
Their pressure rate has been pretty good. They're two leading
pressure artists. Their starters, they who were out there for
about sixty five seventy percent of the snaps, have both
been exceptional this season. Talking about Daniel Hunter and Will
Anderson Junior. Will Anderson Junior had a sack in each
(43:10):
of the first three games, and he's second on the
team in sacks. Because Daniel Hunter has a pair of
sacks and a pair of games, so he has four
on the season, and there's many other plays where they
have been disruptive enough to basically ruin it. And that's
all you're really asking for is sack is great, you
get the lost yardage that go with it. But if
it's third and eleven and you force an incomplete pass,
(43:31):
you're getting the ball back. And that's what these two
guys are obviously at the forefront of doing for this team.
Up front, it's where they generate. They would love to
generate almost all of their pass rush means you don't
have to bring extra guys. I think is the season's
gone on, they've blitzed a little bit less. With Jalen Petrie.
There have been some games already this year where he
has been basically at the line of scrimmage and been
(43:51):
running games like he was a defensive lineman and stunts
and just doing things to put additional pressure on the
quarterbacks that they've faced. And when you consider who they'veased
and the kind of the progression of it. They opened
the season with Matt Stafford, He's headed to the Hall
of Fame. They played Baker Mayfield, one of the more
underrated but still top ten quarterbacks in the NFL. You're
(44:13):
not ready to call him a Hall of Famer yet.
I don't think Baker Mayfield can do what I do.
He can buy a ticket and go to the Hall
of Fame and mean visit it. But no, I don't
think that anybody there is wondering what his bust will
look like just yet. Really really good player, but there's
a lot of really, really good NFL starting quarterbacks that
aren't headed to the Hall of Fame just yet, or
probably not headed there at all. As enshrinees. Maybe he
(44:36):
can go when a former teammate of his skits enshrined.
I don't know who that might be, but he and
Miles Garrett spent a little bit of time together in Cleveland,
so maybe he gets the invite when Miles gets in.
And we'll see who the Texans lose to in Week three.
They fell to zero and three after tough, tough losses
to the Rams and then the Bucks and then another
one score loss in week three. Who got him in
(44:56):
Week three? Horse faces team? What corse his team? Sarah
Jessica Parker owns an NFL football team. You didn't see
the bag of Oates over on the sideline for Trevor Lawrence,
so mean follow me here, okay, Hall of Fame quarterback
in week one, really good top ten quarterback in week two,
horse face Trevor Lawrence. Multi million dollar extension signing quarterback
(45:19):
in week three. That just means the Jags are dumb
rookie quarterback in week four and the Texans won backup
quarterback in week five. Progression is very, very very clear,
and hopefully the Texans continue to take advantage of it.
They definitely should have done more than they done more
(45:40):
defensively to help their team, which is asking a lot.
Against Jacksonville. Trevor Lawrence had a bad day and they
benefited from drops, but he had a bad day because
he's a bad quarterback. They needed to take advantage of
it more than they did, and maybe say even try to.
You know, the turnovers were the issue. You needed to
set your offense up in a great position because otherwise
they weren't going to score. And again that is asking
(46:00):
for a lot, and the defense really wasn't doing a
whole lot to set up their offense last week. But
the Texans also weren't letting the other teams score or
move the ball. So they were never an awful field position.
They just weren't, you know, sitting there with a forty
yard drive to get in the end zone. It wasn't necessary.
They obviously won the game. They have to make sure
this very experienced, longtime NFL backup doesn't take advantage of them.
(46:26):
Their staff knows the Texans very well defensively. They've played
against this same look, so to speak, for the last
several seasons, until for the first time in Dmiico Ryan's
head coaching career, somebody else was calling plays. That was
last week, and there were some things the Texans clearly
did differently. Aaron Wilson reported this Sunday morning before the
game that the expectation was that EJ. Speed was going
(46:48):
to be on the field a lot more than he
had been and to that point, how about a lot
more than the other reserve linebacker The Texans put two,
not counting Jake Hansen no offense. He played special teams
almost exclusively, but they employed two reserve game day active
on game day reserve linebackers runs Christian Harris and the
other is EJ. Speed. Christian Harris didn't play against the Titans.
(47:11):
His snaps came at the end of the game, when
the starters were being rested and the score was twenty
six to nothing. He was on the field as a
defensive player for four snaps. EJ. Speed was on the
field for fifty six percent of the text and snaps
as in more than starter. Henry TOATOA, I'm not sure
that everybody noticed it during the game. I mean, I
(47:31):
pay attention to a lot of the dumb stuff, so
I did and noticed it wasn't just in third down situations.
There were situations. They just thought the matchups against what
they were up against in this particular week's game against
the Titans, and what they probably weren't capable of doing
with who their wideouts are, who their tight ends are,
that they thought it made more sense to have more
of a look like that, and obviously at Henry's expense
(47:55):
to a certain extent, but maybe there's more to having
someone I'm a little bit more singularly focused on the
defense and your defensive coordinator rather than the co work
being done by he and the head coach on game day.
Maybe the Texans can take advantage of that again by
putting personnel groups that just work better against who they're
(48:16):
up against.
Speaker 5 (48:17):
You know, I don't like about the fact that Texans
dropped that game to the Jaguars. Since we're on the subject,
we didn't talk enough about this, and it's hard to
and it looks disingenuous or it looks weak to do
it after a lost too, said player, You're right, Trevor
Lawrence is a bad NFL quarterback.
Speaker 4 (48:37):
They just won again, and I'm not saying he had
nothing to do with it.
Speaker 5 (48:42):
He did throw a four yard touchdown pass, but I
mean one of the plays was a forty eight yard run,
the other play was an eighty seven yard pot return.
The other touchdowns, I should say he's not good. They're
winning in spite of him.
Speaker 4 (48:55):
Still, yeah, and he probably played his best game of
the season, right, and he had one hundred and seventy
four yards. They aren't counting on him to win games
for them. They're just counting on him not to lose
games for them. And as much as it might change
what we think about Jacksonville this year and maybe on
into the future, they're winning games because they what they
appear to have made some exceptionally good moves this offseason
(49:18):
off the field. Technically, they're on the field, they're coaches,
but their general manager, they're head coach. Their offensive coordinator,
their defensive coordinator and former Houston Texans legend Tony Boselli
are all a huge reason why they are better this
year defensively, specifically, they take the ball away. Nobody takes
the ball away more than they do every single week,
(49:39):
every single week this year they are They have picked
off two passes every game, at least two passes, and
then they lead the league in takeaways in general. Makes
for an easy day for your offense short fields constantly
knowing or getting more opportunities. It's just something that every
team wants to do that every year, and we go
through the same stuff on you know, every time we
(50:01):
talked to the coaches or a new DC, or when
we talked to the court. What are you trying to
do with this team while we're trying to take the
ball away. It's something we're focused on here during training
camp and the offseason workouts, you know, punching the ball out.
You know, we call them takeaways, not giveaways. We call
them takeaways because that's what we're all about here defensively.
And then they have eleven takeaways in seventeen weeks. It's
everybody wants to do it. Teams sometimes are just better
(50:24):
at it, have the better players for it, and are
sometimes they're taking more chances to do it. And I
don't know which is which yet. For Jacksonville, we'll see
the punch out in the NFL is very very very
much in vogue. We saw it last night in the
Dolphins game. Basically changed the game. First drive of the game.
The Dolphins said, hey, Jets, we're going to run it
(50:44):
on every single play, and I said it backwards. The
Jets said that to the Dolphins, and justin fields in
the running backs. They just literally ran it every play
whole first drive other than one play, and they got
all the way down the field and they were about
to dive into the end zone and the ball got
punched out. Had the ball for seven and a half
minutes in scorny points turned it over. That's why the
Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jacksonville Jaguars are three to one and
(51:09):
tied to top the AFC South with the Colts, not
the Texas with the Colts. The Colts who did finally
lose because of a Now if the defense for the
Rams and their DC or their head coach. Sean mcvagh
wants to call the ad Mitchell fumble a takeaway. I'm
not letting that go. It is a takeaway. Take away.
(51:29):
It goes to the take away from his team. Yeah,
the Colts can call it a takeaway. They took it
away from themselves.
Speaker 5 (51:36):
Stunning to me that players are this stupid still after
seeing plays like this in the past.
Speaker 4 (51:42):
How do you know? What are you joys? He wasn't
dropping the football like we've seen from DeShawn Jackson some
college players Jonathan Taylor, his current teammate, who did that. Yep,
this was every appearance of it was. He was about
to take the ball from his left hand, which was
by the sideline, talking about ad Mitchell's non touchdown, take
it from his left hand, moved over his right hand
so he could show it to the defender that was
(52:04):
unable to keep him from either catching it or the
other defender who was trying to chase him and push
him out of balance, both of whom failed. That's what
it looked like he was doing. He did not say otherwise,
and when he moved, he just lost the football and
he was running so fast into the end zone. It
took it straight out of the back of the end zone.
I don't want to get into this discussion here on
the air, and I really don't want to get into
it on the X platform either, But I still don't.
(52:27):
I still don't see the logic in that rule at all.
Why isn't it colts ball at the one yard line?
I don't get it because it's a touchback. Why because
that's the rule? But exactly when it goes like, what
did the defense do that you liked so much to
do anything and you rewarded them, not only with the football.
(52:48):
It's not even at the one he's stupid, but the
defense had nothing to do with it.
Speaker 5 (52:52):
You're doing what you don't like, which is whining about
something that's the rule.
Speaker 4 (52:56):
Yeah no I'm not. I'm not whining about I'm wondering
what is what is the meaning behind it? Why is
that the rule and that all goes in back of
the zone? No, no, no, you're you're telling me what
the rule is. You're not telling me why they want
to officiate it this way? That is my question. Why
do they want to officiate it that way? And what's
coming up next on the show? Not that like I
just said.
Speaker 1 (53:18):
The age on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 4 (53:28):
I just accidentally pressed a button over here on this thing.
Only have four of them on off coffeem No, no, no, no,
this thing? What is this over here? That's for people
who actually do things on the radio besides talk about sports.
Speaker 8 (53:40):
But sit here.
Speaker 4 (53:40):
Everybody does that in this room. Yeah, this is your
black project design. No, I mean I talk back. You know,
you fire off sound effects or whatever it's called. That's
not what that actually does. How does it sit in
front of me every day? And I don't know what
it does. There's no room to get it to not
sit in front of you every There's too many other machines.
See this, man, I can't work in this environment. I'm skiddy.
(54:01):
What about the water spill that you probably haven't even
noticed and didn't do. Where is it? It's right next
to the core. Yeah, they're covered hot the hot wires.
They're not exposed. Don't worry. So if you went to
an Astros end of season availability at eleven am this morning,
(54:21):
like I did and many others here in the Houston media,
did that means you were there just in advance of
the postseason beginning for twelve other teams. The Astros were
not one of them, so this took place a little
bit earlier than last year, not much much earlier than
most of the year's prior. Aj Hinch James Click are participating,
just saying aj Hinch and James Klick are participating. The
(54:43):
team that knocked the Astros out of the playoffs last
year is the first team to get a win this year.
Kyle Tucker and Alex Bregman are participating. Kyle Tucker is
currently participating, but you and I also have the same
number of hits today as he does. None. He's batted
twice the playoffs. It's time we haven't bat at all.
It's time to not shine. Struck out swinging on three
pitches in the first inning, and when it came up
to bat in the fourth inning, he beat one into
(55:04):
the ground and ground it out, So he's oh for
two today. The Cubs have not scored yet, and if
the current score holds, they will not win. The Padres
scored a runoff Matthew Boyd in the second inning with
back to back doubles. The Tarks Schoobles start for the
Tigers in the Wildcard round in game one very similar
last year's Wildcard start in Game one last year here
(55:26):
in Houston at Minute Made Park at the time against
the Astros. He's now helped the Tigers get off to
a one game to none lead in both instances. Today
he tied the Tigers franchise record with fourteen strikeouts pitched
into the eighth inning, got them seven and a third
or seven and two thirds before stepping aside, and he's
now given up seven singles in two wild Card Game
(55:50):
one starts. That's it. They've won three of his four
postseason starts the last two years. He's actually made three
of his four postseason starts against the Guardians, having seen
them in two games last year, the last of which
he lost, and now Game one this year. He's been
awesome in three of those games, giving up today's earned run.
That's one. He had two shutouts last year, shutout performances
(56:12):
of no runs. He did not complete those games, and
like I said, they won very close game and for
Guardians fans it was probably pretty excruciating watching the last inning.
Jose Ramirez leads off the inning and he reaches on
a throwing air and gets all the way to third
with nobody out. He did not score because after a strikeout,
(56:35):
a not very hard hit ball was hit to the
pitcher and for some reason, Jose Ramirez, with one out,
maybe thought well, we're not gonna have any other chances
because he's sprinted for home, and Will Vest grabbed the
baseball and ran at him and tiged him out.
Speaker 5 (56:48):
Time out, Timeout, before you go any further, you're telling
me that a player got all the way to third
base when you needed just a run to tie the
game up, and then was thrown out on a base running.
Is this the Astros the Cleveland Guardians, it's a little
bit tougher on.
Speaker 4 (57:05):
This is the ninth inning of a one run game
and the only run they scored, Well, sounds like a
micro cosmo of the Astro season to me. Yeah, But
the only run they scored came on a play that
was hit over the pitcher's head that he botched the
fielding play on. And then, for some reason this is
tark school. Earlier in the game and the fourth inning,
he couldn't catch it on its way down, picked it
up off the ground and didn't throw hard to home
(57:28):
and so the runner who was actually called out. Initially
they had to review it to realize. Nope, he was
safe and that's how they scored their only run. And
it was the second game in a row. If I'm
not mistake under second out of the last three where
tark Schoobl's biggest mistake wasn't a pitch, it was his fielding. Yeah,
it was this fielding two games ago against this same
Guardians team that led to two unearned runs. And this
(57:50):
is a play he definitely should have made and didn't.
Maybe they were hoping that his reliever Will Vest would
also not make the play, but probably a decision you'd
like to have back. Don't know if Jose Ramirez has
yet answered that question, but he aggressively headed towards home.
It was an easy out, and then the final play
of the game also an easy out. And that's all.
She wrote. A two to one game in the first
of the wild Card Series games to be played, and
(58:10):
we're looking at a one nothing game in the Padres
Cubs game headed to the bottom of the fifth third
game of the day. Over in the American League will
be the extremely highly anticipated three game series between the
Red Sox and the Yankees, and then the Cincinnati Reds
are in the playoffs. If you had missed that getting
into the playoffs on the last day of the season
(58:31):
over the Mets. They have the Dodgers. Dodgers are probably
not going to need Shoho Tani to pitch in this series,
but if they do, he is scheduled to start Game three.
Clayton Kershawn not on their Wildcard series roster. I'm not
sure how they came to that decision. Obviously, I know
he pitched on the final day of the season, but
(58:51):
all of that inclusive why they decided to go that
route and not have him available. Obviously he would likely
start one of the first two games of a subsequent series,
but he was good this year. He's been a very
good starting pitcher this year. I was a little bit
surprised that they went that route. And one last thing
on the National League side about the Reds in the playoffs,
(59:12):
which obviously came at the expense of the Mets. The
Mets are the butt of everybody's jokes, especially in New York,
for how much money they spent for the Jan Soto.
That's the main New York versus New York commentary because
everybody that is part of the Mets or a Yankees
fandom or Honestly, Yankees media, they just can't stop talking
(59:32):
about how awesome it is that, you know, hey, you
can have him. You and your non playoff team can
have Wan Soto on all the money it cost you
to get him to so you can watch us at
least currently in the playoffs. But from an Astro standpoint,
why does this matter? If the Mets had made the
final playoff spot in the National League last day of
(59:53):
the season grabbed it, the five highest payroll teams would
have all made the playoffs Mets, Yankees, Phillies, Blue Jays,
and it would have meant the highest payroll team that
did not make the playoffs was Jim Crane's team. Listen.
So the Mets being in that number one spot makes
it so contract right, not quite realize it, but the Astros,
(01:00:16):
we knew how much they were spending, we knew how
much they were up against. You know, we're at our
limit from a CBT standpoint, not wanting to do certain things,
not want to be repeater, and get into all those
things that do weigh into this isn't just the actual
money you're spending anymore, but it becomes much more so.
Texas was right behind Houston, but better than two hundred
and twenty five million dollars payrolls for both of those
(01:00:38):
two Texas teams. And we're wondering after today's press conference
what the status truly will be for both the general
manager and the manager Joe A. Spada. We're not wondering
what the status is in Texas. Last night, the Rangers
made the announcement Bruce Bochi's time here is over. They
said it was a mutual parting of the ways Bruce.
Bruce hasn't said anything. Yeah, And I don't know.
Speaker 5 (01:01:00):
I mean, if you're if you're the Rangers, that is
the one constant, you know, winning element you have had.
Speaker 4 (01:01:10):
I don't I don't know what they're thinking. That doesn't
make sense to me. I'm sorry what it made me
so happy. They offered him a position in the front office,
but I think other teams if he's interested in managing,
and he obviously retired basically once, yeah, would would probably
be it's very interested in bringing him in.
Speaker 9 (01:01:29):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (01:01:29):
From the standpoint of he was he brought there, he
brought he was brought there, got you over the hump
you win that championship. I mean, I gave you a
Matt Thomas when I should have given you a You're
absolutely right. Well, I think there's different reasons, but the
actual facts of it. Astros won the World Series in
twenty twenty two with a manager who obviously had had
(01:01:50):
a long time trying to get there and finally accomplished it.
They came back the following year and we're still very good,
and they let him go and they lost to Bruce Bochie.
Bruce Bochie's team won the World Series in twenty twenty
three and went through twenty twenty four, technically an additional
season for him, and they I think have again mutually parting.
Is he's I'm not sure from a health standpoint if
(01:02:13):
he really wants to do it anymore, because it is
painful to watch him walk out to the mounds just
to Boxington general, he doesn't walk so much as he
just But unless something's changed mentally with him, he's not
the reason they lost this year. He was. He's he's
really really good. If you asked me to list the
top ten managers in baseball, if he's one of the
(01:02:34):
managers in baseball, he's probably on my top ten list.
This year still would would probably make it. He's really
really all, he's he's won a lot of games with
a couple of teams. Now, I'd see if he once
come down here and finished his career in Texas. They
have to have an opening. They can do that. Yes,
they can do that. They have not done that.
Speaker 5 (01:02:54):
Do you want to have the general manager say as much?
Because he did today he said he's under contract, which
is kind of like a.
Speaker 4 (01:03:04):
It's not a it's not a ringing endorsement. Rather, it's
a statement of fact. Is that I don't know.
Speaker 5 (01:03:12):
I mean, he's asked point blank you know about the
manager situation, and he's gave the most non ringing endorsement
answer you could possibly give.
Speaker 6 (01:03:22):
Look, I mean I made it very clear that, Look,
Joe is the manager and Joe's under contract.
Speaker 4 (01:03:28):
Yeah. The under contract line is the tough one to
take every time it's said, because we know how much
Unfortunately it means in sports, it doesn't mean much of anything.
If ownership Jim Crane in this instance, that they want
to pay, they'll pay whether you're under contract or not.
No longer means whether you will continue to do the
job you're gonna get paid to do, just might get
paid not to do it. At his request was asked specifically,
(01:03:50):
have you spoken with Jim Crane since the season ended?
Had to be asked twice so to get that answer,
and he said, yes, Dana did. But that's where we're headed. Next,
Joe's spot, his situation moving forward. You just heard from
Dana Brown describing it. He's under contract, So how do
we think that really should be perceived. We'll do that next.
Speaker 1 (01:04:10):
The Age on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 5 (01:04:20):
Bringing endorsements, starting quarterbacks sidelined. We've done a little bit
of everything today. It's season ending leg injuries. We've had
a little bit of everything in today's show. It is
the eight team Sports Talk seven ninety, Space City Home Network.
By the way, I hope you didn't draft Jamar Chase
number one in your fantasy league because he has been
absolutely horrific. And I know that Joe Burrow, another injury
(01:04:44):
that has come up this year, is a big reason why,
or at least could be pointed to, is a big
reason why.
Speaker 4 (01:04:50):
The whole reason why.
Speaker 5 (01:04:50):
Yeah, But like, if you have a competent backup, you
should have Jamar Chase having way better numbers than he
has right now. He should be having more than two
hundred and fifty yards receiving and a touchdown. Sorry, you
should just trip and fall into more than that, right,
But the whole reason quarterback, not him. If you're the
whole reason you're on the field, then that's the whole reason.
Speaker 4 (01:05:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:05:11):
If you're a quarterback in the NFL and you can't
find Jamar Chase for more than a touchdown in two
hundred and fifty yards in four weeks of play, you're
not a good quarterback.
Speaker 4 (01:05:19):
Nobody thinks he is. You need to be on the
field because it's hurt. You're not even competent. Yeah, he
had been a lot better in previous stints, and things
have gone extremely badly for Jake Browning this year, which
again is good for Houston. The Cincinnati Bengals don't appear
to be a part of anything that will represent a
chase for the postseason, and they clearly would be if
Joe Burrow was out there. I'm not saying they would
(01:05:40):
be clearly in or nothing's clear, but you're just you're
bad if Joe Burrow's not out there or worse, And
they were able to get through it the last time
with Browning, this very same quarterback with a lot of
the very same offensive talented players around him. It just
has not worked out in the games. Again, the victory
that they have is with Browning over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
(01:06:03):
That's as amazing as what we've already been talking about
and now leading to that. But no, this last game
was exceptionally poorly played. They've been handily beaten twice in
the Browning starts other than he came in in reserve.
So definitely, I mean, it does look like Cincinnati, with
what still lies ahead of them on their schedule, is
very unlikely to be a part of things. And unlike
(01:06:23):
the Lamar Jackson turning things over to Cooper Rush and Baltimore,
that appears to be brief. We don't know the extent
of Lamar Jackson's injury. The report just indicates he's probably
out two to three weeks, which obviously would take him
off the field this Sunday against Houston. We know Joe
Burrow has had surgery on his toe which will keep
him out for months, and maybe he returns for those
(01:06:44):
of you that are a little bit concerned about dropping
him off of your fantasy team rather than holding on
to him or using an ir spot and hopes that
the rest of your squad is so good that you
can use him in your week sixteen or seventeen playoff games.
By all means, keep holding on to that. But from
a football standpoint, he would only come back, presumably if
the games matter.
Speaker 5 (01:07:05):
Don't you think he's there, Jordan basically in a way
like in other words or whomever.
Speaker 4 (01:07:13):
I mean, I think it was properly diagnosed. No, I
don't mean like that.
Speaker 5 (01:07:17):
I'm talking about this guy's not going to come back
if the games aren't gonna be meaningful in some way,
shape or for it.
Speaker 4 (01:07:25):
Yeah, but here's the real difference. We're not asking is
Joe Burrow coming back in three weeks or six weeks
or nine weeks. Yeah, we asked it every week for
three months with jord On because we were not sure.
They were not sure onto the season.
Speaker 5 (01:07:41):
I was just foregoing all that other stuff that was
unnecessarily thrust upon.
Speaker 4 (01:07:45):
All of us. A quarterback who's had multiple lengthy injuries
now playing behind one of the worst offensive lines in football.
If the Bengals are five and ten with two games left,
if they're four and nine, if they're four and ten
with three games left, I don't think Joe Burrow, a
healthy Joe Burrow needs to go back out on the field.
It doesn't do anything for him. They can't make the playoffs,
(01:08:08):
and for God's sakes, you might as well take advantage
of it in the offseason. Don't win a fifth and
sixth and seventh game. You're gonna draft in the top
six if you win four or five game. So I
doubt he would be back if they're out of it,
and they're playing like they are going to be out
of it. But we left last segment obviously talking about
the Joe a spot a situation, and I'm remarkably saying
(01:08:30):
it that there is a situation. But until the Astros
make it abundantly clear. Because if you're changing general managers,
which they don't appear to be, but I can't tell
you for certain that they're not, it's hard to say
what they're doing anywhere else, and that includes the manager.
And you have not heard from ownership, the only one
that can give the true, definitive answer on that. We
have seen multiple changes already made in situations that weren't obvious.
(01:08:55):
Joe Aspota could return, and if he does, then there
will be two managers in this division that returned report
from Anaheim from LA that neither the interim manager nor
the manager that started the year will be back with
the Anaheim Angels. I like calling him Anaheim sounds a
little bit better to me. But Ray Montgomery and Ron
(01:09:16):
Washington reportedly will both not be back. So the Rangers
and Angels, two of the three teams that finished behind Houston,
will be looking for a new manager. The Astros, obviously
are sitting here with the managers won eighty eight games
followed by none in their best of three wildcard series
and eighty seven games followed by no Wildcard series, and
(01:09:40):
this year just same thing I would say for Dana
I would say for Joe, and Joe's being asked to
decide between where should Jacob Melton bat today? Where should
Bryce Matthews be in the lineup today? Are we sure
we want to put Kennedy Corona in center field? I mean,
just on and on of Yeah, I think this is
a good idea, even though he has a batting average
again of three twelve and it's the worst in baseball.
(01:10:02):
Let's start Colton Gordon again today, Like there's only so
much you can do and there's only so many wins
that are there for you. It pains you when you
have some games where the bullpen failed you and you
use the right people. You used Brian King, you used
Brian Abrad, or you used Josh Hater, and Hater was
almost unflappable this year in terms of blowing games. He
was incredible. So there were weren't that many of them
(01:10:25):
until he left with injury, which just made it that
much more. You know, talking to Dana about you know,
what are the immediate things you've done in the you know,
two days that you've been eliminated for the Sunday they
were already eliminated, and obviously the days that have passed
since today. And he couldn't help but say what I'm
sure is the truth. They're still lamenting one game, not
(01:10:46):
anyone specific game, but one game, any one result flipped
from a loss to a win. Again. Other teams might
have a chance to change their fortunes because the last
day of the season meant to something different to them.
But you missed the playoff by one game. You have
the same record as the team that just won their
playoff game. The Tigers won eighty seven times this year.
(01:11:06):
The Astros won eighty seven times. This year, the Tigers
are up one game to none in their wild Card series. Well,
and one of those games was to them in extra
innings on a basis loaded a walk.
Speaker 5 (01:11:20):
That stuff, right there is what I was talking about
last week. I kept calling it playing with your food,
and like, that's why I would come in here homicidal
on June nights into June mornings, where they blew some
dumb game to whomever.
Speaker 4 (01:11:34):
Right, but who was playing with their food? If you
want to keep that theme, Caleb Ort, I know, like
the injuries, who he has to and in the an
extra innings that might be a little bit too excusy.
Caleb Ort's probably gonna pitch for you an extra innings
and he was a part of your team most of
the year, so you know that maybe isn't the best example,
but you get the idea.
Speaker 5 (01:11:55):
I think if some of these back up, some of
these space cowboys play weren't getting on base the way
they were, I wouldn't have been as frustrated about it,
because at the end of the day, I don't care
what your status is as a Major league or not,
you're a quadruple A player or whatever. If you're getting
on base, then That tells me you have enough talent
to get home.
Speaker 4 (01:12:15):
You know what, if they hit you with the pitch,
what do you mean you get on base, You didn't
do anything, You just stood there.
Speaker 5 (01:12:21):
Yeah, but a lot of these guys were getting on
base only to be stranded. And that was that was
the whole season for the Astros. Look very very frustrating,
all right, Troy Aikman was very very frustrated with the
officiating in last night's game. Plus, as the Texans prepare
for Baltimore without Lamar Jackson, I'm gonna go.
Speaker 4 (01:12:40):
Ahead and do it myself. I'll diagnose it that he's out.
Speaker 5 (01:12:43):
They should really listen to something WEX has been hammering
all week long and parts of last week.
Speaker 4 (01:12:48):
We'll tell you what that is next.
Speaker 1 (01:12:50):
The ad on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 4 (01:12:59):
So.
Speaker 5 (01:13:00):
I didn't mean for this to be a recurring theme today,
talking about somewhat high caliber and visible members of various
sports leagues complaining about the officiating. But since that's a
topic near and dear to my heart, there are a
couple of different segments I had planned to talk about
this topic, the first one being one of the games
(01:13:23):
that happened last night Troykman wasn't happy about it, And look,
when coaches, players, organizational personnel, what have you complained about officiating?
Speaker 4 (01:13:37):
I do think it's a little bit different.
Speaker 5 (01:13:40):
First of all, they're almost always going to get fined,
which is it kind of adds another layer of frustration
if they do have a point. Like sometimes people will
complain about officiating and be like, oh, just losers are
the ones that do that. But other times you got
a real beef and you know when you get fined
and penalized on top of it. It's just that's one
of the things in pro sports or just sports in
(01:14:02):
general that really irks me. But I digress. When commentators
do it, though, and especially national commentators, and especially in
big games, it gets my attention.
Speaker 4 (01:14:13):
This happened last year.
Speaker 5 (01:14:15):
When the Texans were playing the Chiefs and you were
seeing the type of treatment that Patrick Mahomes was getting
from the officials, I e. If you breathe on him,
it is a fifteen year old yard penalty on the Texans,
and you will get the drive to continue based on that,
even though you had shut it down. But you know,
this happened when the Warriors were being handed that game
(01:14:38):
seven here in Houston back in twenty eighteen, Chris Weber
and Reggie Miller were like apoplectic at the type of
non calls that were benefiting the trailing Warriors all the
way to a Game seven win. So when high profile,
high caliber types on the broadcast are talking about the subject,
(01:15:01):
it gets my attention. And that's exactly what happened last
night when Troy Aikman did not like the parade of
laundry as we'll call it in the game that he
and Joe Buck were calling.
Speaker 4 (01:15:10):
Nothing brings a broadcast to a screeching halt more than
these yellow flags. I couldn't agree more.
Speaker 2 (01:15:18):
Let's kind of clinic.
Speaker 4 (01:15:20):
Maybe it's the moon. What was that thing cressing something? Well?
The other one who told me it's waxing, Chris, Yeah,
there it is.
Speaker 2 (01:15:32):
But there's a flag down. Guess what. It's an ineligible
man down field.
Speaker 4 (01:15:36):
And that was a good player downfield offense number sixty
five yard penaltry second.
Speaker 2 (01:15:42):
Back, Troy.
Speaker 4 (01:15:47):
Yeah. The product just not very good.
Speaker 2 (01:15:49):
I'm gonna be honest, it's just not very good.
Speaker 4 (01:15:50):
I mean, this is ridiculous.
Speaker 1 (01:15:53):
Wattenberg, he's been called a few times tonight for some
penalties he's the center right in the middle.
Speaker 5 (01:15:57):
Is one thing to complain, But when you frame it
as the product is not very good, I think you're
gonna get the legue's attention.
Speaker 4 (01:16:04):
Well, the last thing he says, the product is not
very good, as he's talking about a player who's been
penalized before. Well, now he's giving the impression that the
football product isn't good, the player is not capable of
playing without committing a penalty.
Speaker 5 (01:16:17):
Rather than enough with all the laundry, or you should
ignore the penalty even though it's the.
Speaker 4 (01:16:22):
Right call, which he said is I appreciate the honesty,
but come on, now, a buck's a buck. If it's
a penalty, you gotta call it. You gotta call it,
especially if you see it now again in the NFL
and holding and some things like that, it's pretty obvious
on one hundred and twenty five snaps in a game
(01:16:43):
they don't call holding on every play, and there's a
lot of plays that they don't that they clearly could.
Most of these calls we're talking about are in this
particular instance, that was a third flag thrown on that
particular Broncos drive, relatively early after they'd returned from halftime.
In the third quarter, you had an offside, you had
an ilegal blind side block, and that last one you
heard was an ineligible downfield pass. Two of those penalties
(01:17:05):
were actually declined. There's probably a couple of games each week,
and this was a seventeen penalty game. Eleven on one team,
six on the other. That's a lot of penalties. Teams
commit a lot of penalties sometimes and we have all
the data to say on Sunday morning at eleven am,
we know what's coming. This crew calls these penalties. Yep,
(01:17:29):
this crew has a propensity to be heavy handed with
their flag throwing. It's all there, and I think with
the balance is well. Some officials don't, some officials do.
Over the course of the season, you're gonna probably get
a nice mix of both. So it's not like you're
seeing the same guys over and over and the same
calls over and over. It's always on the players to
at least have a conversation with him if you think
(01:17:51):
you're being and this is vainly offensive lineman and defensive
backs basically that you got to make sure that they're
seeing that they are seeing what's they're calling and not
you're getting hosed by them, thinking what's happening out there,
and it's really not. So have your conversations. Dimiko's talked
about it a bunch of times. It's not like having
a relationship with them, it's actually talking to them before
the game and actually, you know, getting a feel for
(01:18:12):
what they're looking for. Because sadly, as much as we
want it not to be the case, we know it's
the case in the NBA, and we know it's the
case in the NFL. Here's the rule book, but focus
on this and this. We've made some rule changes this year,
and we want to make sure, especially early in the season,
if you want to go overboard, go ahead, focus on
these calls and maybe they'll players will then correct them
(01:18:35):
the rest of the year. We saw it last year
with the formation penalties, specifically targeting tackles and just turns
into a silly he's not two inches further forward. It's
so dumb. Just look over at the official, tell them
where to be. I agree to, the product is no
good if it's constantly being stopped by flags. But if
it's an officials problem, that's one thing. If it's a
(01:18:56):
player problem, that's another.
Speaker 5 (01:18:59):
Yeah, look I understand what he's saying, because I think
it was game one of this year the Texans. It
was like I came in here talking about it the
next day. I mean, good lord, every single snap it
seemed like there was a penalty.
Speaker 4 (01:19:11):
I think that was Week one. It might have been
Week two. But it does from an esthetics standpoint, from
a flow standpoint, and.
Speaker 5 (01:19:20):
I'm not just talking about for the viewers. I'm talking
about for the teams themselves. It is sometimes hard to
get any sort of rhythm either way offensively or defensively
when it's just constantly, constantly, constantly seeing flags. But it's
like you said, if it is a penalty, you gotta
call it. I think I go through the four Texans
games without research. Do you think the penalties that were
(01:19:40):
being called for their first four games, specifically.
Speaker 4 (01:19:43):
On them the ones you're gonna remember the most. Do
you think it was a man officials, back up, go away,
they're not doing anything, or man, the Texans are just stupid.
Speaker 5 (01:19:55):
The latter for this game, But in the game against
the Chiefs and the playoffs, it.
Speaker 4 (01:19:59):
Was the He was the former, right, But you had
specifically cited Week one, the Texans had eleven penalties. I
didn't think the officiating crew was egregious with overcalling it,
and the Texans just kept making mistakes that were kind
of hard to overlook because the thing about these penalties,
every single time they call them.
Speaker 5 (01:20:14):
They're going to go to the replay right away to
show you who did it, who committed it, how it was,
how it all.
Speaker 4 (01:20:19):
Yeah, they had a bunch of holding calls us last week,
and I know Titus Howard wasn't very happy with a
couple of them on his team. He got hit with
two of them, and you could see him and they
I don't know if this was on the TV broadcast.
I think it was. It was definitely on the monitor
we had in the stadium, which is usually the TV broadcast,
but you could see him clearly after the call was
not happy, and he looked up at the board where
(01:20:39):
they were showing a replay and he was screaming about
like come on, like he just did not believe what
had happened. And I believe that was the play they
showed a replay. Essentially, he just won his block, but
because of where they thought his hand was, they thought
he was pulling the guy to the ground in a
way that suggests he was holding him. He was basically
just owning him and dominating him and doing what you
(01:20:59):
would love to say see an offensive lineman do. On average,
the Texans games have seen fifteen penalties sixty one penalties
between the two teams, and four games Texans have had more.
That's probably too many for this product is awesome. Probably
needs to be more like ten or eleven total between
the two teams. Texans haven't gotten there yet, except for
last week, the game you've called the ugliest one they've played.
(01:21:21):
It was ugly. I'll tell you no, no, sometimes winning
ugly is still winning. Well, every time winning ugly is winning.
Speaker 2 (01:21:28):
All right.
Speaker 5 (01:21:29):
I'll tell you about the advice that wex gave that
the Texans should follow.
Speaker 4 (01:21:32):
Plus, is this defense gonna feast this Sunday? C J.
Speaker 5 (01:21:36):
Stroud ways in on that topic as we begin the
four o'clock hour.
Speaker 2 (01:21:39):
Next the A teen on Sports Talk seven.
Speaker 1 (01:21:43):
Ninety two lifelong Houston sports guys named at him talking
your Team.
Speaker 3 (01:21:54):
Adam Clinton and Adam Wexler are the AEEN.
Speaker 5 (01:22:04):
It's a Tuesday edition of the program. It is our
number three. Wex ac with you as we count down
the days to the Texans first victory in Baltimore.
Speaker 4 (01:22:18):
That's what we're doing this week. I'm gonna call it now.
Speaker 5 (01:22:20):
I've already called a defensive touchdown, so I'm just gonna
go ahead and call the game right now.
Speaker 4 (01:22:25):
So six games in the regular season in Baltimore, if
I'm correct, I think that sounds right. Most recently, the
only one they've played in the Demico Ryans coaching era
was the one they played very very early in his
coaching career, CJ's playing career, Week two. They had a
nice little go of it, had an opportunity early in
(01:22:46):
the game, but they never found the end zone. They
lost twenty five to nine, and a lot of the
spread came later in the game. The other five games there,
they've scored sixteen, fifteen, fourteen, nine and seven, and only
one of those games was truly close, and shockingly, that
was way back in two thousand and five. They've lost
by seven and fifteen and twenty one and sixteen and
(01:23:08):
thirty four. They've obviously been there in the postseason also
very very recently, and then we mentioned the TJ. Yates
led group that was there not quite as recently. Lamar
Jackson sometimes Joe Flacco sometimes it really doesn't matter. The
Texans in Baltimore and overall just in team history in
the regular season thirteen games and the Ravens are eleven
(01:23:29):
and two, So this is a long, clear period of
rivalry total domination. But what really matters is what have
the Texans been like against the Cooper rushed Ravens so far?
Speaker 5 (01:23:42):
I don't know, it's never happened before. What have they
been like against the Cooper rush led Cowboys though.
Speaker 4 (01:23:47):
They have been dominant. They beat him by twenty four
points last year, with Rush throwing fifty five passes and
throwing for over three hundred fifty yards, even found the
end zone once, also found the Texans once, and they
brought him down five times. So four of the sacks
that had it against him last year were by players
on this year's defense, potentially five all five if Deniko Autry,
whose practice window is expected to be open, it will
(01:24:08):
be on the practice field tomorrow if they in fact
activate him for the game, which I would find it unlikely.
He also sacked him that day. But again, it's it's
it's part of your game notes, it's part of what
we'll be discussed by JJ Watt and Iron Eagle in
the booth. They have the game on CBS, thank goodness,
but it really doesn't have a whole lot of bearing
on the on the situation anymore, even just to last postseason,
(01:24:31):
even or even just to last Christmas, I should say,
in the postseason before that, because now all of a sudden,
you're playing a team that you know. The two postseasons
ago you played them, and obviously the Derrick Henry factor
was different. This last Christmas you played them, and Lamar
Jackson factor will now be different. I don't think the
Baltimore defense has looked like this pretty much ever in
(01:24:53):
a Texans versus Ravens game at any point in any season.
They are absolutely gettable. As in, everybody who's played them
that doesn't use Joe Flacco as their quarterback has gotten them.
Why can't the Texans and their awful offense do the same.
Speaker 5 (01:25:09):
Well, I'm glad you're saying all that because it goes
back to something you said last week that I think
really needs to apply now that we know what we
know about Lamar Jackson. Again, it's not official yet, it's
going to be he's not playing. It's going to be
Cooper Rush and it's going to be if Derrick Henry's
out there, how much confidence do they have in him?
I felt like he wasn't even he wasn't even a
(01:25:29):
factor of this last week because they made it that way.
Speaker 4 (01:25:33):
He hasn't really been a factor since Week one, and
for the reason you just said, they decided to go
that route.
Speaker 5 (01:25:38):
Which is awesome if you drafted him for your fantasy
team as well.
Speaker 4 (01:25:41):
But I digress.
Speaker 5 (01:25:44):
You have said this repeatedly, and you've said this about
the Astros too, but it really does come into play
in a situation like this. You're getting high on the
fact that you know Lamar Jackson's not gonna be there
and all this other stuff you feel. Just take care
of what you do and don't worry about I mean,
(01:26:04):
I know you have to game plan for different quarterbacks
and all that kind I get all that, But if
the Texans, especially defensively, play their best game, I really
do think they'll be okay. If for no other reason,
then their defense is a lot better than the defense CJ.
Stroud and company is gonna be facing off against.
Speaker 4 (01:26:24):
And a reminder from earlier this week, since they had
finished their four games late with Lamar Jackson he missed
the last quarter and a half of their last game.
As far as throwing the football goes, there's nobody doing
it better than he is in the NFL. In twenty
twenty five, just like twenty twenty four, he's the in
my opinion, if if you believe in the numbers I
(01:26:44):
believe in and I do, he's at least among the
best three. But the numbers say he's the best one
passer of the football success efficiency points not turning the
ball over ten touchdowns to one interceven. He had the
highest touchdown percentage in the NFL for the second time
in his career last year, and this year it's even
(01:27:06):
higher than it's ever been. He's a career best through
four weeks. Last year he led the league at average
yards per attempt the first time in his career it
was over ten, and this year it's better again. He's
having a phenomenal passing season. And granted they've needed him
too because they've had to score a lot of points
in order to get there. They also played for him
(01:27:26):
in front in Week one against the Buffalo Bills, so
they didn't necessarily have to have it, but they got
it because that's how good he is, So I don't
know where you want to put Cooper rush. Maybe he
performs a little bit better than Carson Wentz or Jake
Browning or other reserves that have had to play this year,
but it's just such a difference if the Texans are
carved up by this quarterback, and I don't think Baker
(01:27:49):
carved him up at all. I definitely don't think Trevor did,
and clearly cam Ward didn't. I thought Matt Stafford had
a pretty good day against him. Carved is that word
I hate because it definitely means you got dominated. I
don't think they dominated since they only gave up fourteen points.
And we've seen now over the last three weeks, nobody
in the NFL, nobody in the NFL this year or
(01:28:10):
any other year, has an answer for Puku Nakua. Nobody
can defend him, Nobody can stay with him, nobody can
keep him from owning the defense. He's done it every
week this year. He's having one of the most remarkable
starts to a career any wide receiver has ever had ever.
So Matt Stafford had a really good day against them.
That just cannot happen. And I believe in the Texans
making sure it does not happen. You can take the
(01:28:32):
pressure off him by handing the ball to Derek Henry
a lot more than they have after Week one, and
I think that they I really don't think the fumbles
had much to do with their usage of him, because, honestly,
we saw this a while ago. Adrian Peterson was running
over the league in Minnesota and he absolutely could not
hang on to the football. He was a fumbling machine.
(01:28:54):
And I remember things like this for weird reasons. One
of those years, he was my fantasy football running back,
and it just ticked me off that this guy would
go twenty four carries, one hundred and eighty seven yards,
one catch, and you'd lose four points because he fumbled twice.
Like I get it, it's all part of the numbers
(01:29:14):
and how we do everything. But man, just hang on
to the football a little bit and you're not gonna
You're not gonna take the ball out of Derrick Henry's
hands at this point of your season, because he's had
two balls stripped away from him, and certainly one of them,
maybe you could argue the other one was not such
a strip, but more of a mishandling of the football
by the individual Henry, but they should be running him
(01:29:34):
a lot more than that. The Texans haven't been great
against the run this year. They were a little bit
better against it last year, got a little bit better
against it. Week three. They couldn't give the ball to
Tony Pollard more than they did in Week four because
the score was just getting away from him and he
obviously wasn't gonna break anything huge, but he had a
good day against them. I would feed him more. And
it also shortens the game. It might give your you know,
(01:29:55):
your defense a chance to rest a little bit, so
maybe they can play up from how they're the caliber
of play they've put on the field so far this year,
because it's been awful, they should be looking at it
in their city, in their locker room, and on their airwaves.
Very similarly, though the Texans offense has played great football
for fifteen minutes this year, one quarter, their defense should
(01:30:17):
be this is this is our best game of the year.
Without many starters, we're focused on Lamar Jackson. They've got
players potentially missing at every level. Wiggins might miss the game.
Humphrey's almost assuredly missing the game on a bouquet is
missing the game. Rokwan Smith could miss the game. These
are not just players. These are among their best most
effective defensive players. Most years, hardly any of them have
been particularly effective.
Speaker 5 (01:30:39):
Well, Baltimore got to beat up on the Texans when
they were injured last year on the offensive side especially,
so let's see if the Texans can return the favor
this year. And as it pertains to that defense maybe
an unlikely character to comment on this situation. And he's
talking about the shutout this past week, but following the
twenty six nothing win over the Titans, c J. Stroud
(01:31:01):
with his thoughts on a defense which, again you're not
gonna be facing the Tennessee Titans offense, but Cooper Rush
is not Lamar Jackson, and you've got a defense that
is very active, likes to get after the quarterback.
Speaker 4 (01:31:15):
And c J.
Speaker 5 (01:31:16):
Stroud talked about that shutout and hopefully that can continue
this week.
Speaker 8 (01:31:20):
Defense played amazing. Of course, it starts with Disease's played
calling with with Demiko thought they did a great job of,
you know, mixing coverage and stunning with the D line
and things like that. Man coverage of Sticky Kamari played
a great game. Kaylin all the guys in the back.
I thought MJ stepped up and did a great job.
But yeah, I think like when you hold a team
(01:31:41):
to zero points in the NFL, like that's big time.
Like it doesn't happen a bunch. So yeah, shout out
to them boys. They're doing a great job. And you know,
I'm just I'm very grateful to have a defense like that.
Speaker 4 (01:31:51):
It was noted by a few I believe in the
press box and a few on the socials. As the
game was unfolding, you heard CJ mentioned MJ Stewart, Hey,
MJ Stewart, nice play pass defense all now he has
one more pass defense than the guy he replaced who's
not here, CJ. Gardner Johnson.
Speaker 5 (01:32:10):
Since we're talking about guys that maybe have some controversy
attached to them, he mentioned hisz's Al Shaier totally got
away with hands to the head.
Speaker 4 (01:32:20):
Yeah, I will, I'll give a hat to aphere. To
the out of town media, they saw that sit right
in front of him at games. They saw it very clearly.
They saw it on the replay and they said as much.
But they didn't go crazy and cry and whine like
you're seeing these stupid aggregator, nonsense people saying, hey, here's
what's happening on social media. Fans are calling for the
(01:32:42):
banning of Aziz al Shair from the NFL, which clearly
is it happening, but it will get him a lot
of clicks and follows and nonsense stuff and subscribers. But yeah,
he had his hands high no matter what position the
quarterback was going to be in upon releasing the football,
especially how the rules are, not how they're officiated, but
how the rules are. He should definitely have been penalized
(01:33:03):
for that. And it wouldn't have been out of out
of the realm of possibility to think an additional penalty
beyond just the hands of the face, beyond the personal foul.
It was the personal foul. He hit him in the head.
Speaker 5 (01:33:13):
How much money would it take for you to have,
as Zi z alshare, take a free shot at you
on a football field.
Speaker 4 (01:33:18):
You've got pads. I have pads and a helmet. Uh huh,
you're geared up? Is he running? Of course he's running?
How much a lot? The answer that question takes a
lot of money. I don't want it. I don't want
that man. How am I going to come in here?
And do the show laying down Hospital.
Speaker 5 (01:33:38):
Well, he didn't hit Tyreek Hill last night, but Tyreek
Hill still put his leg on backwards and his reaction
to that injury might have actually been more insane than
the injury itself. His quarterback weighed on that you'll hear
from that when we return.
Speaker 1 (01:33:53):
The age on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 5 (01:34:04):
It is the a team Sports Talk seven ninety Space
City Home Network. We got our signature segment at the
bottom of the hour that would be say what it
will be starring Arch Manning and not.
Speaker 4 (01:34:16):
Really, but well he's a topic.
Speaker 5 (01:34:19):
Yes, he will be a topic on this segment, as
maybe will possibly coach on coach verbal violence that we
did not cover yesterday see leftovers, lots of them Tyreek
Kill last night. So Tyreek Kill is not having a
very good season because he plays for the Dolphins first
and foremost, and they're head coach and their team, their
(01:34:40):
organization in general has not had a good start to
this season.
Speaker 4 (01:34:43):
But then you know, it's the NFL. We're good for.
Speaker 5 (01:34:47):
If not a gruesome injury a year, they happened pretty frequently.
If you watch an entire seventeen game schedule at some
point and I'm talking about all the teams, not just yours.
You're probably gonna see something, if not this bad Tank
Dell was the one last year for the Texans. It
happens a lot. It's a violent game. We all know that.
We all know what we are signing up for as
(01:35:07):
viewers as much as the players know what they're signing
up for as participants.
Speaker 4 (01:35:12):
But I gotta tell you, I don't know that I've ever.
Speaker 5 (01:35:15):
Seen a player injured in this gruesome of fashion have
that kind of reaction as he's being carted off the field.
And for those of you didn't see it after getting
I mean it was it's one of the most brutal
injuries we've seen over on the sideline. Eventually they get
(01:35:36):
him on the cart air cast. I had to stabilize it.
So yes, yeah, and he's Tyreek Hill, Who's I don't
know if he's all there anyway. I mean, he's given
us some material to think of that at least be skeptical.
Speaker 4 (01:35:51):
He's kind of a different cat, different breed. He's like.
Speaker 5 (01:35:56):
Smiling, putting his arms up almost like wanting the fans
to cheer him. I'm not really sure what he was
trying to accomplish as he was being carted off the field,
and if you missed it, his quarterback to a Taga
Viola Taga via Looa was maybe equally as perplexed as
(01:36:18):
we are with that reaction, but kind of, I guess,
in a roundabout way, was explaining away what he thought
Tyreek Hill was trying to accomplish.
Speaker 4 (01:36:27):
Were you able to speak to Tyrenk I was. I was,
and as you could see on the jumbo tron, he
was kind of joking. He you know that that's just
his personality. So he was joking when when.
Speaker 8 (01:36:39):
I came up and talked to him, and when a
lot of the guys came up and talked to him.
Speaker 4 (01:36:43):
That's just his personality. That's just who he is.
Speaker 2 (01:36:45):
But you know, our our thoughts and our prayers are
with him.
Speaker 4 (01:36:48):
It's his personality. Wex. Yeah, I'm not gonna you get
Guys can do whatever they want, and I don't think
they have the time even know what they're doing when
they're in a situation like that. How you react to
it is man, I don't I don't want to have
to be faced with how I would react. That's what
we you know, how he did in that situation, and
he was talking to the Dolphins trainer that or athletic
trainer that was seated next to him, and they had
(01:37:10):
some sort of, you know, brief conversation after he was
put on the cart, and you know, he kind of
smacked him on the leg and they were they were
having you know, he was smiling as he was talking
to him, and he obviously was clapping very loudly on
his way off of the field, and the fans were
they were cheering already, and he, you know, it's just
a it's a bad situation to be in, and that's
how he reacted to it, I think to it, did
a nice job of saying, hey, this is how he's
(01:37:30):
going to deal with this and hopefully they'll come back through.
Rosenhaus's agent sent out a pick from the hospital. Katie George,
the sideline reporter, noted, and I did not realize it
at the time that his mom, Tyreek's mom had made
it down from the stands to the sidelines to be
with him at that moment before he had been taken
off the field, which was probably helpful for him, maybe
not so helpful for her, but just a tough spot
(01:37:51):
to be in. It was a It was a dislocated knee,
not very common. A dislocated kneecap is not very calm,
but that seems much more common than a dislocated knee.
And you could see, I think you could visualize the
difference when you saw the position that his lower leg
was in. And it's very unfortunate. It's very unlikely that
there aren't significant surgeries needed because it's kind of a
(01:38:15):
progression of things. What do we you know, when this
goes down and we get the imaging on it, we're
going to do this surgery first, and then you're gonna
need that. And it was not the same injury that
Tank Dell had, but a similar type of series of
surgeries I believe will be expected in order to make
a return. They're not even sure what ligaments have been
severely damaged as they go through this part of trying
to figure out he was probably on his way to
(01:38:36):
his best game of the year. The way that they
were getting the ball into his hands in this game
against the Jets was how they should have been getting
the ball in his hands all season long. And without
constant good quarterback player, constant good protection for Tua, I
think they'd had a hard time really getting that consistency
for Tyreek. He's their best he's their most important weapon
(01:38:57):
in the past game, I think, and right from the
beginning of the year it acted it seemed like the
Dolphins felt otherwise. If you remember the first game of
the year, they couldn't stop throwing the ball to Devon
a Chan, which I don't frown on. He's an unbelievable weapon,
and they still don't get him the ball enough. I'm
not going to be mixing Ollie Gordon and nearly as
much as they are. Maybe they're trying to keep him healthy.
They won the game. They're going to move forward without Tyreek.
(01:39:20):
Hopefully I have a healthy season moving forward from Waddle,
who is a really talented number two and has had
a hard time also staying fully healthy. He's played in
a lot of games while unhealthy. I'm sure we're not
at the end of the rope with this. As you
just said, we'll see an injury like this, and I'm
sure we'll probably see another one or two where it's
somewhat catastrophic and it's obviously season ending at the moment,
(01:39:43):
and then you start worrying about the future. I know
it was discussed by most over the twenty four hours
roughly since it happened. But Tyreek Hill's recovery from an
injury like this anybody's, would be difficult. For what he
does that makes him so special, that would be something
I'd be ques and for where he is in his career.
He turns thirty three this coming off or thirty two
(01:40:05):
this coming off season, so his year thirty two football
season is twenty twenty six. I presume he'll be healthy
enough at some point during the season to play, but
what will he be able to do? And is this
an injury where you're kind of two years away from
it where you're actually back to your same health. And
for him, he's trying to get back to his same
thirty one year old health when he's then thirty three.
(01:40:27):
So it's a really tough one for him and the
game itself. Both teams were in they had to have
it situation. The Dolphins got the zero gone, they're now
one in three. I don't think they're a good team,
but they're no longer winless, and Aaron Glenn I don't
watch them play and think, well, we made a mistake.
I don't know if Aaron Glenn's the right guy, just
(01:40:49):
the opposite. They don't have the talent to win football
games yet, and they're making too many mistakes. We mentioned
the fumble they had earlier. Their game plan was genius.
These guys will not be able to stop us on
the ground, so they just ran the ball over and
over and over and over again. And I mean, Justin
Fields is not a great thrower yet or maybe ever,
he's definitely good enough to win with when he's definitely special.
(01:41:11):
He's special. He's not a running quarterback because he gets
fifty yards a game. He's a special running quarterback. Fourth
and one on a rollout to the right where he
goes back left and scores on it from the forty
three yard line. That's Lamar Jackson type stuff. And he's
done that his whole career. But he's also not one
of the better starting quarterbacks in the league, no matter
how special his running is. Because that's what I say
(01:41:34):
about all these quarterbacks that can do both. He can't
do both. He can only run, and you cannot win
in the NFL with a substandard passer, no matter how
great he is. This is the same show where I
just told you the best passing quarterback in the NFL
is Lamar Jackson. Lamar's the best running quarterback in the NFL. Also,
(01:41:55):
that's why he's great. Josh Allen certainly can debate that
with him, but Justin Field's not a good passer, so
it's very hard to win football games with him. And
they're correct he should be their starter. He's the best
they have. I mean, they went out to get him
this year, I think knowing there really was no good answer.
They're gonna lose a lot of games, They're gonna be
looking for a quarterback. They're heading towards having a great
(01:42:16):
draft pick. They have to hope somebody's there for them,
maybe at number one. This is the same pattern that
the Jets repeat like every three or four years. Though,
going out to get Aaron, Rodgers suggested you planned on
winning games mm hmm and not being at the top
of the.
Speaker 5 (01:42:29):
Draft af their roster going into his first year there.
Screamed this could happen, because.
Speaker 4 (01:42:37):
It could happen. Their roster was fine, right, their offensive
line was garbage. Yeah, that didn't help. And you mentioned
him earlier because of the injury on that field, and
obviously Tyreek's injury was not on that field, but Aaron's
was a couple of years ago. Aaron's best football I
thought was over when he left Green Bay, and maybe
his best football is. But the best football in the
three years since he's been out of Green Bay is
(01:42:59):
now underway, and he's been just flat out He's been
a good quarterback in the NFL this year. He's not elite,
He's certainly not where he was last year, winning five games.
Other than justin fields, he's a lot better than justin fields.
I would have absolutely done the exact same thing Aaron
Glenn did, and management did the conversation and everything. You
we can't have you here, we do not want you here,
(01:43:20):
And there's a lot of factors. It's not just he
took it. He took it personally, of course, Michael Jordan
in that sense he should be. He's that good. He
has had that good of a career. You don't lose
that feeling. That's why it's hard for guys like that
to retire, like Russell Wilson, because.
Speaker 5 (01:43:36):
You were Jordan himself twice or Jordan himself for sure
playing for the Wizards.
Speaker 4 (01:43:40):
You want to play that bad gosh's you know what
you've been and you you always I think you until
clearly you can't. But when you're in uniform and when
you haven't retired, you believe I can still do this.
I can still do Look at video ten years ago.
It's the same guy. Yeah, Aaron Rodgers has shown especially
just if you're all forget about the numbers this year,
(01:44:01):
just watch the ball leave his hands, watch where he's
putting it and how he's getting rid of it, and
clearly the decision making behind it. I think he's a
much better fit with this much milind oc and in Pittsburgh,
and it shows that he can still play, despite me
telling you repeatedly for now three years that he cannot.
And Mike Tomlin, Baby, look at that freaking division. It's
(01:44:22):
a free perhaps Cincinnati, Baltimore and Aaron Rodgers team.
Speaker 5 (01:44:26):
You're I'm gonna laugh when the Steelers win the division.
It's totally in play. Although you're on our show for that.
Oh my gosh, I want to go to Pittsburgh too, uh,
but we won't do that. Instead we will go to
our signature segment coming up next that would be say what.
Speaker 1 (01:44:43):
The A On Sports Talk seven ninety. This is Adam
and Adam sweetly choked through mind buckling moments that make you.
Speaker 4 (01:44:54):
Go, Hey, what what? What?
Speaker 10 (01:45:02):
What are you talking about?
Speaker 4 (01:45:04):
On a Tuesday? Y?
Speaker 9 (01:45:06):
What O?
Speaker 4 (01:45:06):
Dain?
Speaker 2 (01:45:07):
I dare you now say?
Speaker 9 (01:45:10):
What?
Speaker 4 (01:45:12):
Signature segment? Time for thirty each and every weekday afternoon
here on the A team on Sports Talk seven ninety
and simulcast on Space City Home Network, we hit you
with our signature segment, or on Tuesdays say what is
what pops to the forefront? Today's Tuesday. So that's what
we have for you. I ask you this question over
(01:45:32):
the last couple of months. I think the answer is
pretty obvious. Other than Cooper and his wife, who loves
Arch Manning more than anybody else, there's already answer to this, sark.
It's not necessarily an individual, but rather a group of individuals. Also,
(01:45:55):
it's not Paul fine Bomb. He is part of that
group of individuals. Oh, the meeting smaller group, SEC Media
National callser the worldwide leader. Oh well yeah, the company
that owns the SEC network and cannot get enough of.
This just means more and never ending supply of. We
(01:46:17):
don't care that he's barely ever played before. This is
the greatest player to ever walk the face of the
earth in college football. Believe us, don't doubt us, don't
debate us, don't do your own research, don't watch film,
don't watch the games. Just blindly believe us, and it
will come true. And through the first handful of games
of this is his team. And I think it's pretty
(01:46:37):
clear that it has not quite not quite been to
that level that they can already go ahead and say,
don't bother voting for the Heisman, it's his, but rather
we're going to watch the season play out. But to
that end, I'm going to tell you this audio comes
from the studio, the set Little College Football Discussion right
over there at the Worldwide Leader. Our good friend and
(01:46:59):
friend of the program, Hannah Storm among those on set
at the time. Field Yates out there, and the voice
you will hear will remain unnamed till after you hear it.
But if you thought there were some people out there
that believe in Arch Manning, you are correct. And this
person is definitely in his mind, and I think in
(01:47:19):
many other's mind, very very very close to the program.
He'll even tell you as much here as he tells
you how much he believes in Arch and you know
he wants to say it at the end of the season.
He's already ready to do what Sam Ellinger did a
couple of years ago and say we're back, but let's
just see what happens. I'll tell you who this is
after you, after you, let I forgot. I let everybody
(01:47:42):
hear the love the love for Arch.
Speaker 10 (01:47:45):
I'll say that that Arch to start, as you know,
his first start at the shoe at Ohio State. Who's
who's the hell of a program? That's a that's a
that's a tough way to come into that position. But
I really believe I mean the guy I'm you know,
I get to spend a lot of time in Austin
(01:48:05):
and very familiar with the program, and Arch has the
capability to bring, you know, Texas to a Natty.
Speaker 4 (01:48:13):
I really works the way.
Speaker 10 (01:48:16):
If Texas wins a Natty this year, I think we're
gonna go on a dynasty run. There's no reason, okay,
there's no reason people should not be coming to Texas.
It's the greatest city in the world, one of the
most prestigious teams. Nobody looks bad in Burnt Orange. I
think Arch has what it takes. I feels like he's
he's not overthinking anymore.
Speaker 4 (01:48:35):
So, not only did he sell you on Arch, he
also gave you an in burnt Orange in commercial for
enrollment at the University of Texas in residential living in
the city of Austin, and obviously your fashion choices.
Speaker 9 (01:48:47):
What cole I said one hundred percent right, nobody does
look bad in burnt orange.
Speaker 4 (01:48:51):
It's the sight to see when you hit to hit
the games on Saturdays on the forty acres, I will
definitely vouch for that. AC can do the same. He's
more recently been to a game at the the Longhorns facility,
but that was none other than Chad Powers. Not Eli
manning Chad Powers, but the man he just worked with.
Glenn Powell, noted Orwans No, who's Tyler Owens. He's on
(01:49:15):
the movie Twisters. All of the characters he plays. Oh
so that's Glenn Powell. That is obviously he's basically Matthew
mcconnoey liked he's taken over a very prominent role. Matt's
not giving it up. He's still on the sidelines too.
He still stumps for the Horns just like he should,
and they hopefully will play enough of their role in it.
In that you kind of have to be good for
(01:49:37):
any of this to matter, for any of us to care,
and for the words to actually have any meaning to it.
But my goodness, Glenn, the dynasty run the zero times
in the title game, sark Longhorns, they didn't just I mean,
they've been really good and they're definitely worthy of their
playoff invitations. They've played their seat their playoffs into the
(01:50:01):
semi finals. I get it. A dynasty run. I actually
think we're done with dynasty runs period in college in
college football, I've done with dynasty runs. Watch what's happening
this year and he just the SEC is a very
good example of it. By the end of the year,
maybe we'll know who the best team or teams are
in the SEC. But they're going to beat each other up.
(01:50:22):
It looks like all season long, there is no Alabama's
about to go eleven eleven and zero into their last game.
Why they'ven it pulled the eject and he's talking about
a dynasty run for a team that has You haven't
started the dynasty. Yeah, you need to say. You cannot
say that word until you win the first one. You
just can't. You sound stupid, and you know the things
(01:50:43):
that were said before he played were obviously out of control.
Now that you've seen him play, let's dial back, doll
it back. I think until we see him play well,
like really really well in a game against a team
that matters. And I do think Florida, while their record
stinks and they're probably gonna be in the bottom six
(01:51:03):
of the SEC of sixteen this year, let's try a
bottom four. It's a legitimate opponent. It is an SEC
program at the very least. And yeah, they might also
move on from their head coach before the end of
the year, but probably at the end of the year
and then on through the rest of their schedule, they'll
be playing another team without their coach. They'll have Bobby
Petrino later this year, they'll be playing an Oklahoma team
(01:51:23):
without their quarterback. But he's not. None of those things
matter to him and to how he plays. He's playing
against these teams defenses. He's trying to play at a
level that is befitting of anybody. Like five how many
weeks into the season are we gonna be before we're
not saying this anymore if he doesn't do something dramatically
different that the word natty and Texas and Arch words.
(01:51:49):
They can't go together. Like you're not watching a team
that looks like they're gonna be playing for a national title,
are you? No? No?
Speaker 5 (01:51:56):
Look, they might have they might wind up having a
successful season. I guess that's the friendliest word.
Speaker 4 (01:52:06):
But what is that? What defines successful?
Speaker 5 (01:52:09):
When you've had a guy like this be as hyped
as he was before he ever played it down of football,
be spectacularly underwhelming throughout. I mean, I'm not giving him
credit for Sam Houston and San Jose State, and I'm
not doing that well.
Speaker 4 (01:52:23):
He didn't play well against San Jose State or UTEP.
Now granted he played well against Sam, but I would agree, yeah,
but he negated it by standing over the guy. He
absolutely did not negate that. And I'm not a hater
by any means. I'm just trying to be a realist
for this. And realistically, you go to Florida and you win,
which they should and I believe they will. You go
to the Cotton Bowl against a lesser team than they
(01:52:47):
could be, presumably if Hawkins is starting and he should
be as opposed to the injured Materier, and then you're
playing at Kentucky Mississippi State is no different than Florida,
except they're probably better. They're a legitimate tea, maybe not
in a national championship, top four, top six in the
SEC picture, but they've played awfully good football, probably a
bit unexpectedly easily could have remained undefeated this last weekend.
(01:53:11):
Vanderbilt is a legitimate football team again, and maybe even
better than that, and that they might be able to
score with just about anybody in the SEC. We'll find
out as these teams get into SEC play. I mean,
they better be playing their best football by that point
in the season or else. Mississippi State road game, Vanderbilt
back at home, Georgia road game in succession over a
(01:53:31):
span of four weeks. Those are your three opponents. Well,
then we definitively would stop national championship talk if those
aren't all victories for the Longhorns. Say what, Glenn.
Speaker 2 (01:53:44):
The Age on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 4 (01:53:52):
Couple things to get to before we get to the
top of the hour in football at five. One thing
to clean up, and though it is football, felt appropriate
as we're talking about Tyreek Hills situation earlier and the
potential for multiple surgeries down the road. Apparently as the
agent has said otherwise already in the post from schefter,
surgery already taken place, went very well, and according to
(01:54:14):
Drew Rosenhaus, he said another surgery will not be needed
and the plan is for him to play next season,
goes through his rehab and the realistic goal and his
words were to be ready to start the season. It's
week four of the twenty twenty five season. We've got October, November, December,
January of the remainder of the season, and then eight
more months. Has roughly got almost twelve months before the
(01:54:36):
season starts. Obviously it's eleven you've played one month of football.
Not out of the question, but we'll see what's best
for his longer term future, even though he's on the
other side of his career clearly. But that is very
good news that additional surgeries would not be needed. And
just walking through what's already taken place in Major League
Baseball and we never really got to it. We're two
games into the postseason, though I don't mind making my
(01:54:58):
predictions after that because we don't have any choice now.
Two more Wildcard Series games to be played today again,
all four on Wednesday, and then we'll see how many
are needed, if any, on Thursday before we get to
the other teams that already made the playoffs but are
sitting around waiting to see who it is they will play.
The Cubs, we're able to get a three to one victory.
Only seven runs have been scored in the first two
(01:55:20):
games of the postseason in these Wildcard series games. Back
to back homers are from Seya Suzuki and then Carson
Kelly gave the Cubs that two to one lead in
the fifth. They got a run on a sackfly in
the eighth, and got four and two thirds worth of
hitless perfect relief from their bullpen four different pitchers after
Matthew Boyd, and they've taken a one game to none
(01:55:42):
lead awaiting the first postseason hitting twenty twenty five of
Kyle Tucker went oh for three in his three at bats,
but he and his team are now one went away
from advancing after a pretty successful regular season. Came in
second place to the Milwaukee Brewers. Two games tonight, Red Sox, Yankees, Red's, Dodgers, Tigers,
and Cubs are already up one game to none. Tigers
(01:56:03):
on the road, Cubs at home. Some Major League Baseball
postseason predictions. I'm looking forward to the Red Sox knocking
off the Yankees. You know, I don't think the Giolito injury,
which they talked about earlier, just prior to this series,
I don't think it derails them in this series. I
think it's a huge impact, negative impact obviously as they
(01:56:26):
move forward, and I do believe, like you, they will
their offense. The injuries they suffered late in the year,
and the Anthony one is a big one. They're really
not as potent as it seemed like throughout different parts
of the year, but that's because they're a little bit
different team. They're definitely counting on Bregman offensively. He did
not finish the season particularly strong. I got a much
better start to the season. But Trevor's story has been very,
(01:56:47):
very good, and I think they have just enough unbelievable
pitching matchup to open and it could very well dictate
the way this series goes. With Crochet and Max Freed,
the Yankees and Aaron Boone are going with the right
handed lineup because of the left handed starter, and I
don't think a lot of Yankees fans are very happy
about that. We'll see what goes and I do appreciate
(01:57:08):
ESPN finding the little that needle in a haystack statistic
that they could put out there. They put up the
wildcard series numbers for Aaron Judge to make you think
he's a good postseason performer, right because of the Wildcard series.
He is a good postseason performer. He's got good numbers there,
(01:57:28):
nice little ops doesn't really match what he's done in
the rest of his postseason career. But that's okay. It
doesn't have to. If this is what we want to
tell you, that's what we're going to tell you. And
this is a wildcard series. I mean, he's been in
a wildcard series before, so we might as well just
mention that because it's going to make him look good.
We'll see what happens. I'm also picking the Red Sox.
I think the two winners today, And I know it
(01:57:50):
sounds easy to say it after Schooble pitched, but I
think baseball is just that crazy. Tiger's faded all the
way down the season and it was literally the Guardians
beating them head up down the stretch of the season
as to why they were three and six in this
order instead of three and six in the reverse order.
I thought the Tigers are gonna win the series, be
able to recover better team, and they're up a game
(01:58:11):
to none, so it sounds smart. I thought the Padres
would win this series, and I don't think it's over yet,
so I'll stick with the Padres pick. I'll take the
Red Sox to win in advance. Obviously, I do think
it's a bit lopsided. If the Dodgers get the pitching
they should, if they hit the way they should, they're
just significantly better team. Short series good pitching. The Reds
do have it at the front end of their rotation.
I would laugh and laugh, but I do think the
(01:58:33):
Dodgers will escape the danger of the wild card series
rather than going through every series that would then follow.
Just tell me who's gonna win each league in the
World Series. Oh man, It's okay if you want to
tell me that Seattle's gonna win it all. But I
know even if you think it, you won't say it.
I don't think it, and I will, so I won't
(01:58:53):
say it if you're unaware. One unnamed news station in
Seattle opened up there Mariners postseason preview A Well, let's
go over to Jimmy with a look at the Seattle Mariners.
Let's get our pregame show started, our pre postseason show started.
Because the Mariners don't play for five days. What do
you have for us?
Speaker 9 (01:59:13):
Man?
Speaker 4 (01:59:13):
I can't wait to talk about the Mariners postseason. But first,
let's look at the Astros postseason schedule. And they actually
built a graphic and went to it and showed the
Astros on a blank slate of no games to be played. Oh,
I guess they'll go undefeated. They won't have any games
to play. And then they you know, talked about their
own team. That is starting to help me with the
(01:59:34):
rent free comment that that is a rent freak example
television situation.
Speaker 5 (01:59:39):
And it's hilarious because now you know, before the last
time I went off about this topic, it was because
the Astros had already been eliminated in the postseason and
the Yankees were about to play in the World Series
and their GM was thinking about the Astros.
Speaker 4 (01:59:56):
These I maybe be very careful enough to customs not
that hard. These are people in the postseason for the
second time since two thousand and one, and they've got
the Astros on the brain, who are already in Cancun. Yeah,
I don't know if and you won the division because
they were beat up all year and these are this
is the media. This isn't Cal and Julio and other
(02:00:18):
members of the team or their GM or anything like that.
Speaker 5 (02:00:21):
And don't tell me you came to town and took
it from the Astros. You took it from the skeleton
crew Astros, and they did. I'm leaning into the injuries now,
screw it.
Speaker 4 (02:00:28):
They definitely beat them up and and won handily and
made a big statement. And their team was that.
Speaker 5 (02:00:33):
Gag Cal off the team and then take Randy Arose
off the team and then take Julio or whatever scrub
they can think.
Speaker 4 (02:00:39):
There's a still question about it. The three best players
for the Astros, in my opinion, offensively were the ones
that offensively missed the most significant time, Jordan and Esauk
and Jeremy, and it meant a lot if you took
Now they're three best offensive players. Well, they played all year,
so it sounds like you're missing even more because it
got a sixty home run guy and it's just different.
But we talked about them and we will more. I
(02:01:01):
wanted pitching. They had pitching injuries too, Oh wait, the
Astros had more of those. Well, they basically had two
pitching injuries and both were brief. Kirby missed the beginning
of the season, and then when he came back was fine, you.
Speaker 5 (02:01:12):
Better win the World Series. I'll tell you that whoever
you're talking about, because I will hunt you down. I
will take you down to Chinatown on the Socials, I will.
Speaker 4 (02:01:20):
Okay, so you're not picking the Mariners. You got a
bunch of other teams, like I hate the American League
this year. You know what, someone will make it. Let's
get Alex another ring, Alex Cora to win another ring?
Got Why do you got be like that? Man, that's
what you just said. I didn't say Alex Cora. Let's
get Alex and I red. Alex already has one. Oh
Alex Cora. Duh, nobody likes that drunk. Okay, you're taking
(02:01:43):
the red Sock. Who's who's going to win the National League?
Not the Dodgers. I know better than that. Mm hmmms,
Philly's Brewers, Padres Cubs.
Speaker 5 (02:01:56):
You know what, Let's take the insufferable fan bases against
each other, Phillies, Red Sox in the World Series and
Alex makes him cry again.
Speaker 4 (02:02:04):
I'll go quick, Phillies Red Sox in the World Series,
Phillies one, and I won't go at all because you
guys have taken all of our time. Football five is next.
Speaker 2 (02:02:14):
The eighteen on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (02:02:19):
Adam Clinton and Adam Wexler are the eighteen eighty.
Speaker 4 (02:02:30):
Five o'clock on the eighteen means football at five. Many
years while we've been doing Sports talk radio, after four
weeks of NFL football, I could have comfortably and confidently said, well,
one quarter of the NFL regular season is complete. I
cannot do that any longer. They play a seventeen game schedule,
but we will treat it as such as we look
(02:02:52):
over what's happened over the first four weeks of the season,
beyond the Texans specifically, but obviously as it relates to
any post season push they might have, and obviously a
little bit of a look at the NFC two. There
are only two undefeated teams remaining, and I don't think
the way that they've played suggest anything other than they're
exactly who he thought they were. The Eagles are I
thought the best team in the NFC starting the year
(02:03:14):
and four and oh suggests that that is the case,
even though they have faults. Buffalo I thought had a
really good chance. With how things were trending in Kansas City,
the seemingly permanent postseason problems with Baltimore, it definitely felt like, yes,
this has to be Buffalo's year and the last season
(02:03:34):
in their stadium, and MVP Josh Allen married Josh Allen.
They've played like it. They're four and oh and they've
been exceptional in getting there. The other end of the spectrum,
Titans and the Jets with the first year coach in
a second year coach, the last remaining winless AFC outfits,
and the New Orleans Saints, who obviously have an awful
(02:03:56):
quarterback situation, also with a rookie head coach and Kellen Moore.
Those of the last remaining winless teams. You have two
NFC divisions with zero teams with a losing record, the
North and the West. Everybody's at least two and two
and none of them are undefeated, so all eight of
those teams are separated by just one game. You don't
(02:04:16):
have any of those divisions in the AFC. Every division
in the AFC except the West has at least two
teams with one win or feward so it already looks
like there's some separation. Texans are one and three, Ravens
are one and three. One of them is going to
be one in four unless they Dallas Green Bays next week.
Could you imagine? I cannot imagine. You couldn't. But you
(02:04:38):
didn't lose to them either, and eventually it's possible at
the end of the season that tie could be beneficial
to you. But take a look at everything else in
the AFC. I've given you kind of the high end,
the low end, and a little bit of the middle.
Does something else stand out? A team's performance, a player's performance,
something truly unexpected, good or bad as you're a order
(02:05:00):
of the way roughly through the season, just on the
AFC side, non Texans.
Speaker 5 (02:05:05):
Ummm, I well put it this way, I thought the
Broncos would have a better record than they do, even
though they're five hundred and.
Speaker 4 (02:05:17):
They're a bad leverage penalty, not bad call, they shouldn't
have done it, a bad leverage penalty from being three
and one, and the Cults would be two and two.
Speaker 5 (02:05:27):
I feel like that's kind of that's Ravens esque, because
I feel like their their record isn't indicative of.
Speaker 4 (02:05:36):
You know, oh, when you commit a leverage penalty on
a six yard field on the final play of the
game that you're winning, that's dumb. Don't do that you win. Yeah,
but so is fumbling on the final drive. That's also
that's a physical play. Just tell your players, don't put
your hand on another player's back and jump over the top.
That's a leverage penalty. Don't do that. And they did. Well.
Speaker 5 (02:05:52):
Just tell your all time running back who always secures
the football, to secure it better than twice in the
first three weeks.
Speaker 4 (02:05:58):
Yeah, now you're talking about two weeks dumb, two two plays, Yeah,
I know.
Speaker 5 (02:06:01):
But other than that, I think that the Kansas City
Chiefs being five hundred, which is probably best case scenario
for where I was going to have them, because I
said they'd take a step back. Now, this sounds absolutely
even dumber coming off of the and I called it
this this week throwback performance from Mahomes. I only say
that because he didn't do that at all last year,
(02:06:22):
not once.
Speaker 4 (02:06:23):
And we've been talking about Baltimore today so much, quite obviously,
and their schedule to start the season. The NFL loaded
up for a couple of teams. The Chiefs are another.
The Eagles, you could argue, are another. The Chiefs opened
with the Chargers in an international game. They played the
Eagles and the Ravens three of their first four weeks.
Obviously that took care of the Russell Wilson led Giants,
(02:06:44):
but not overwhelmingly. And two weeks from now they're playing
the Lions. Booo. Exactly, they're all they knew who they
were going to play, but they're all packed up so well,
first play schedule, Well it's not who they were going
to play. They're all right out with the Yeah. Well,
then to start two and two knowing who was on
the schedule. I'm not asking for an evaluation of how
(02:07:05):
they've played at all. But you're two and two.
Speaker 5 (02:07:08):
They matched their lost total already from last year, right,
did were? I thought they surpassed it? They only they
didn't lose only one game last year?
Speaker 4 (02:07:20):
Are you sure? I'm positive they lost two games last year?
So like the last game when they weren't trying was
number two when they lost to the Broncos. Maybe they
have so they have three. They were fifteen and one,
then they played the Broncos the last week and lost
thirty eight nothing. Yeah, nobody played well, but it's true
they lost it, did lose two games, and they're gonna
surpass it already this so now to how they've played,
(02:07:41):
I'm not after Sunday's game or last night's game, excuse me.
With Denver, that's the kind of football expect them to
play the rest of the year, which I think is
scary for the rest of the league. If that's true,
I think Kansas City is starting to figure out how
to do it this year. Looks like they're never going
to have a running game. It looks like they're going
to figure out who who is the guy each Sunday
(02:08:02):
or Monday or Thursday. It turned out to be worthy
already just backcheck no, But they've they've realized that they
just don't feel comfortable giving him the ball more than
you know, eight or nine times a game. Who doesn't
like him, my mother in law and pretty much everybody
who bought into the offseason fantasy football.
Speaker 5 (02:08:19):
Guy into that role. Why are you running him into
the teeth of the defense every time? Yeah, they they've
done all this without Rashid Rice. He'll be back now
in just three more games. So things I think could
actually be trending in the right direction for them.
Speaker 4 (02:08:31):
You mean they're gonna free him. That was not a
good choice. That's a bad choice.
Speaker 5 (02:08:35):
I mean, good lord, if you have if you have
people that don't like you because you're the Chiefs and
one of your players is engaged to somebody who they
keep putting on TV, and there's all these reasons that
aren't really football related that you.
Speaker 4 (02:08:46):
Don't like Josh Allen and Haley. No, no, no no.
Did you see Haley.
Speaker 5 (02:08:50):
Talking trash about why her Man's gonna win the Super
Bowl this year? Who the quarterback is?
Speaker 4 (02:08:56):
Shed also talked trash about the crappy division he's in
personal friends time division.
Speaker 5 (02:09:00):
Helie Steinfeld, Oh, how's that? I met her backstage one
time in Vegas when she was like a little girl.
Oh well it was twenty sixteen, twenty seventeen, Okay, I
met Sabrina Carpenter the same day. Also, not a little
girl anymore. If you would have told me that day,
I think you might come out with that.
Speaker 4 (02:09:19):
Can you tell she's not a little girl anymore? I
have no idea. What do you sell? It's one way
to pronounce it sex. Yeah, it's working. There's a lot
of money involved selling a lot of records. So the
rest of that division. Last thing, I still think there's
no reason to care about the Raiders. That not a
laughing stop, but they're just not very good. Oh oh,
(02:09:40):
and our boy Justin Herbert, he sucks, doesn't suck, but
he is going to have a huge challenge because their
offensive line is probably not going to be very good
with both tackles currently. I was told that doesn't matter
if you're just that good. Well, he's in a little
bit of a Joe Burrows situation, possibly mean CJ. Stroud situation,
(02:10:02):
not a good offensive line in front, but produced statistically
outstanding seasons in the way. Joe Burrow has fewer touchdowns obviously,
but he's still We saw it for last week and
that's why this would be for you my gimmick. Last week,
Justin Herbert it was all on him, And honestly, if
I saw this correctly, they throw the ball more than
(02:10:23):
anybody in the NFL, so they're really putting it on
him and he can have a capable back they do it.
Sure looks like Hampton was a very smart choice. He
had a very good like in this particular game. They
still were leaning on Justin Herbert, and he did not
have a very good game, his first not very good
game of the season. They were also three and zero
going into this game. Joe all got hurt during the game.
He'll probably return this year, but he's not going to
(02:10:44):
miss some time.
Speaker 5 (02:10:45):
So And for the sake of clarification, for those of
you guys who you know our listeners fairly regularly, if
not every single day, the gimmick is not that I
actually don't like Justin Herbert.
Speaker 4 (02:10:57):
It's that I don't like how the media.
Speaker 5 (02:10:59):
Just caught him and salivates all over a guy who
hasn't won a playoff game. And you know, if you
treated c J. Stroud the same way that you're inevitably
going to treat him, because I'm it's coming, don't worry.
They're going to start talking about how he hasn't been
able to produce this year because his offensive line is trash.
They'll say it a lot more eloquently than that, but
(02:11:21):
they'll give him every benefit of the doubt that they
won't give c J. Stroud, who's basically just slumped Stroud
their words, not mine.
Speaker 4 (02:11:29):
One way that's different, and just comparing those two, Herbert
comes into the league, similar draft stock, both of them
in the top ten and enters the league, as as
their head coach, Anthony Lynn, and they were not nearly
as downtrodden as Houston. Houston was an embarrassment and specifically
(02:11:49):
was picking head coaches that they weren't going to win
with and putting players on the field that they weren't
going to win with. The Chargers actually didn't do that,
but Anthony lenna is their head coach. One year with
Justin Herbert hired Staley into year three, fired interim coach
into Harball. So he's playing for his third head coach already.
This is year six. I don't know when CJ is
(02:12:12):
going to play for his second head coach. Serry Trevor
Lawrence of him a little bit, a little bit of it.
And he's the quarterback who Herbert was up against in
the postseason before last year's game against Houston. Couldn't even
meet Trevor Lawrence. And he couldn't even beat Trevor Lawrence
with a huge lead, right, But this is you know,
they've had two really good seasons with him at quarterback.
They've ended up losing in the wild card round both years,
(02:12:33):
but that also means three other seasons weren't very good,
and one of them was year four, and now we're
into year six, five and six years of CJ Stroud.
It's it's somebody else's fault. It's management's fault for the coaching,
it's management's fault for the offensive line. At this point,
the Chargers clearly they've built a really good offensive line.
(02:12:54):
They happen to be hurt now, but three and one,
there's only one team better than them so far. If
he figures out how to still get things done offensively
with some issues on offensive line, which CJ's been trying
to figure out for two years here with a significant
like they're hurt on the offensive line and they're still
better than I think what Houston puts out there.
Speaker 5 (02:13:15):
I just want CJ. Stroud to have a year to
throw the football just to see what would happen.
Speaker 4 (02:13:20):
You mean, like on any given snap, Huh, he's got all.
Speaker 5 (02:13:22):
Day, all day, or just you know what's a good
amount of time, like not great offensive line, but good
to above average good or whatever you want, like a
competent offensive line, which he's never had even in his
rookie year. I feel like he was running too much
for his life. What's a good amount of seconds that
(02:13:42):
he would have to get the job done? Five that's
what I was thinking. Five or six that would be
too many. Nobody's getting five sixty seven. It's more like,
you know, that's a bit much.
Speaker 4 (02:13:53):
If you have five seconds to throw in the NFL,
then you're probably at practice three point two five. I'll
take five. Let's go ahead and take none and hit
the brake.
Speaker 2 (02:14:04):
The a on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 4 (02:14:11):
So there was one other Texans related item, and it
has nothing to do with the product on the football
field that we did not get to during football at five.
Little time to discuss it here. It's just an ongoing situation,
different specifics on this specific occasion. But lawsuits and the
mcnairs and and that's it. McNair versus McNair. It's not
(02:14:35):
Simon and Simon, I'll tell you that much. But Simon
and Simon, Now that's funny you say that, because it's
possible if these brothers, Carrie and Cal actually got along,
we could do it. They could absolutely recreate Simon and Simon.
I don't know which is which because I only know
their last names Simon well, but Gerald McRaney clearly, that's
(02:14:57):
cal Why and Jamison Parker that's Carrie Why because they
have mustaches and the other ones don't. Yeah, but Gerald
was bald, meaning he needs to be Carrie. I just
took he he wasn't bald. He had plenty of hair
on the sides. Well, what was he on top? Major Dad?
(02:15:20):
I don't know, bald man? Wait was he major Dad? Yeah?
And I'm thinking of major pain was one of the
Wayans brothers. Very different. One was the television show. One
was a movie for Aaron Parsons.
Speaker 5 (02:15:33):
Loved her in that movie Goodness memored as Hillary on
The Fresh Prince of bel Air, probably a little.
Speaker 4 (02:15:39):
Bit well more well known for that. So anyway, there's
the lawsuit, which again there's a lot of different places
that will write about it. There's a news release about
it coming from the Busby Law firm, and that's kind
of where I was going to start with this. One
particular outlet writes about this one hundred million dollar suit
and the NFL is I should have said it's just
(02:16:02):
McNair against McNair, because it isn't. It's also against the NFL.
And we talked about this couple weeks ago when Tony
Busby brought it up himself that this was happening and
going to happen, and that it will be filed. And
this is where it is. The first two sentences of
this particular story barely even get to the point they
say what it is suing the NFL for more than
one hundred million, claiming alleged tortuous interference interference with contract.
(02:16:26):
But because it's filed and represented Kerry McNair, represented by
Tony Busby, the same attorney claimed to represent one hundred
and twenty alleged victims of Sean Diddy Combs and two
dozen alleged victims of former Texas quarterback to Sean Watson.
And then eventually they get to what they're all dealing with.
And granted this story is essentially written straight off of
(02:16:49):
that release I mentioned, it just takes on a total
no matter what the party is after that's filed suit,
when Tony Busby is involve all, it just takes on
a life of its own, and sometimes many times clearly
for the success of winning and financial benefit Tony Busby's had.
(02:17:10):
I can't talk negatively necessarily about the tactics that are
being used that he's used, and I think from a
sports perspective that Tony Busby lawsuit parade is somewhat new,
but he's obviously been doing things like this and using
similar tactics for most of his career here in Houston,
(02:17:30):
and is very well known long before he and Rusty
got together for the I was just an adversaries in
the Watson cases. But there's a reason for it, and
it's a there's a reason why you're constantly hired, and
there's a reason why there's specific group of clients that
are sent your way or are seeking you out, and
in this particular case, and that it's a Texans and
(02:17:52):
NFL related item, very lucrative one hundred million dollars at
stake potentially here a lawsuit seeking more than one hundred
million filed in New York Supreme Court for what I
just mentioned, and we talked since we talked about a
couple of weeks ago. Just to reminder, this basically alleges
a conspiracy that includes the NFL with the Texans trying
(02:18:15):
to take carry McNair one of the McNair Bob McNair
sons from the trust position, from being on the board
that owns the Texans, which obviously is a money making position. Oh,
I'm on the board. This is a good place to be. Well,
not so much if they are forcing you out through
illegal means because you wanted to blow the whistle on
(02:18:36):
all of the family scandals. I don't know what, but
if that's the case, you mean Texans related scandals, is
some other undiscussed family scandals Texans related.
Speaker 5 (02:18:47):
That's why I should have clarified, namely the Deshaun Watson one, and.
Speaker 4 (02:18:51):
It's namely is there an not saying this in my
usual way. This is pure actsking the Deshaun Watson handling
of it after it became newsworthy and suits were filed,
but also the handling of it when clearly they were
aware that something was happening. I'm not saying something wrong.
I'm just saying something not normal for the rest of
the football players that they've been Texans for the last
(02:19:13):
twenty years. So I do think there was more knowledge
of what could be happening and something that could have
been handled differently. But are there other things as a
football operation there was the Now I don't know, I
don't even know how this wound up, but I know
you'll remember it, Sure that's there, and my memory just stinks. No, no, no,
I'm saying I just don't know what the end of
it was.
Speaker 5 (02:19:32):
I know you'll remember the event because or the the scenario,
because it was very public all a bunch of those
cheerleaders suing the team for harassment or I can't remember it,
but you.
Speaker 4 (02:19:44):
Know what I'm talking. And I think the reason why
I didn't link it to Houston is because it seemed
like they it was such a league wide issue. As
one came forward, then other teams came forward, and other
teams came forward, and I don't remember the order of
it all.
Speaker 5 (02:19:57):
And I have been the commander's cheerleaders who had like
spy holes in their locker room.
Speaker 4 (02:20:03):
And that's another reason why some owners, and I'm not
saying cow specifically or the McNair's specifically, but some owners, well,
well at least you're not Snyder, right, and that's Cherry
Jones the Cowboys. I think I had something going on there. Yeah,
so yeah, that is accurate the situation. I believe it
was alto Gary who was running things on the cheerleading
side then, and the allegations and suits being filed on
(02:20:27):
behalf of the cheerleaders for not just how poorly they
were paid and we've seen that change a little bit
in the NFL, but how they were treated and things
that happened that shouldn't have happened. And yes that was
a guess it happened elsewhere, but it happened here. That's
all that should really matter. Yeah, you know, it's funny
though you mentioned the theatrics. I guess it's the best
way to put it. Of a Tony Buzzby. He uses
(02:20:49):
us the media to help. But Rusty does that too,
for sure. He's just not They definitely go about it
a different way.
Speaker 5 (02:20:57):
Listen, they're both first of all, they're both as Texas
and as it gets. And I would submit you guys
can tell me if you agree or disagree, But if
you close your eyes and you listen to Rusty Hardin
and Jerry Jones, you can't tell him apart.
Speaker 4 (02:21:11):
Rusty's, you know, very well known for being on the
other side. Right, he's protecting the defendant some hot water athletes.
All through We're twenty thirty years into very prominent, super
well known people, and their cases weren't hidden. He's been
the attorney for so many of them. DeShawn was just
(02:21:31):
the latest ansers with Roger Clemens, and he wore a
very yellow tie. He did what this could mean to
the NFL and to the league these To me, it
almost always is the NFL would want to get as
far in front of this as possible to prevent any
possibility of information coming out through discovery or through testimony
(02:21:54):
that has more. I'm not blind, You're not blind. Our
listeners aren't blind. We think the NFL does everything by
the book book and this is above board on everything.
Of course not, they're definitely not. But if they can
keep as much of what they want hidden and make
sure it's only Halloween that the closets empty themselves of skeletons.
I didn't mean to say it that way, it just
stumbled into it, then they will. And I'm sure there
(02:22:16):
are so preventing this from reaching a judge, preventing it
from reaching the court, all those things, even if they're
not at fault in this situation, and I have my
doubts that they are. And I think it's not frivolous
by any means, but it is seeking something that would
it's going to get their attention. I'm sure there's a
leg to stand on. From Carrie's side, it's just a
(02:22:36):
matter of how strong is it? And you're taking on
a pretty powerful entity. It's not just one team, it
is the entire league.
Speaker 5 (02:22:44):
You mentioned in the league once Taylor Swift declined, just
go with the tried and true act that you should
have chosen for the halftime show in Santa Clara outside
of San Francisco.
Speaker 4 (02:22:58):
We all know who hails from there. You got me, Well,
they played metal, So is it possible to not believe
the report? Like she definitely declined? Uh, well, I just
read that doesn't matter me. She's out, That's all I
care about. What's wrong with that? What's wrong with bad Bunny?
(02:23:21):
I guess nothing. Well, when's the last time you said
this is going to be awesome? I can't wait to
see this.
Speaker 5 (02:23:28):
I was looking forward to the Doctor Dre So I
don't the question I asked you should have? Actually, I
think you should have several answers. Prince was the best
of all time in go back that far?
Speaker 4 (02:23:37):
You did you not think Rihanna was a good choice exactly?
And these are recent choices they've done. I think they've
done as good a job of finding as much general
massive popularity as they can when everybody just wants to
complain about everything. But when's the last time we had
a real hard rock act? Can you think it? Well?
(02:24:01):
Is it? Do they believe that's popular enough? Do they
believe it's big enough? Well, I would say, and downloaded artist?
There is Bad Bunny. How's this a bad choice?
Speaker 5 (02:24:11):
Well, if you want a factor in the fact that
he said he was never going to play on the
US mainland, there's that little detail.
Speaker 4 (02:24:18):
I'm saying someone is big Matt over this. I'm not,
but I know I'm just reading headlines. I know that
some people are because he himself, the act himself, did
say that. Well, I do know the Attorney General has
weighed in on Bad Bunny being selected. Really, that's according
to the headline. What was said, Oh where'd a break?
Oh man, I hate it when I run out of time.
Speaker 2 (02:24:41):
The a on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 4 (02:24:50):
Five, thirty half way through the final hour of the show,
an opportunity for us to get you caught up on
a few things that we have not discussed, or let
you in on some things that need a little bit
of a revisit. Can give you an update from the
Major League Baseball Wild Card game that's ongoing. Just now
change on the scoreboard. Red Sox trailing the Yankees. Superstar
(02:25:12):
fielding shortstop Anthony Volpi has hit one over the fence
at Yankee Stadium. Yankees bottom two, lead one nothing.
Speaker 5 (02:25:22):
I cannot stress this enough, and I know this is
gonna be one of those times where you roll your
eyes so much that you might actually fall out of
your chair.
Speaker 4 (02:25:30):
When the Astros aren't involved, I could not care less.
What are you talking about? You're a sports talk radio Yes,
I know, I don't care. Yeah, talking about baseball every
day is going to We're gonna wean ourselves off of
that rather quickly. Not me, I'm pulling it out now.
Let's go Astros. Obviously we're available today, so that discussion continues.
(02:25:51):
But can before we get to the other items we've
been talking about the Ravens throughout much of the show
and some updates to their avail, players and roster, et cetera.
Can I read to you the latest post from the
Baltimore Ravens official account. Yes, as it relates to a
little bit of a change to who might be available
(02:26:12):
for them this weekend. Do it? Baltimore Ravens. Well over
two hours ago posted the following We have signed guard
Kenyan Green to the practice squad.
Speaker 5 (02:26:28):
Now, if you have a situation where later Sunday afternoon,
Kenyon Green can go to let's just say Instagram and
crow about beating his old team having not even participated
in the game, which is the likeliest of scenarios given
the Ravens win.
Speaker 4 (02:26:47):
That is just sad and pathetic. So a little intel
because Kenyon Green knows nothing about the Texans. New oc
was already gone on what they're trying to do. But nonetheless,
another stop for a Kenyan Green three hundred and eighty
two foot homer into the short porch opposite field for
mister Volpey. What do we have otherwise today? And again
a reminder before we move forward, final segment of the show,
(02:27:09):
tickets to give away. Yet again, We've got tickets to
go see the Houston Cougars this Saturday night only matchup
of undefeated teams in the country. Texas Tech has coming
to town. It's family night over at TDCU Stadium. It's
Houston Blue Night for them as well. That's what the
Cougars will be wearing. You should do the same. Come early,
be loud wear you'r Houston Blue, and a reminder, I'll
(02:27:30):
be out there as well. We got tickets for you
to win. Here. Come see me over at the at
the tailgate over the bud Light party Zone. You will
see me before the game if you are a winner
of these tickets. There anybody else that's going to make
their way on out there. And we also have pit
passes to go with your tickets to Monster Jam a
four pack. We'll give both of those away in the
final sigma to the show. What do we have today, Cole.
Speaker 9 (02:27:51):
Definitely, one thing that you want to keep an eye
on is records of teams because of it could lead
to eventual changes of scheduling. And we've already got our
first flex game as the forty nine Ers and Buccaneers
are moving to the four to twenty five window. In
Week six, Patriots and the Saints are moving to the
one o'clock window. Now again, I bring this up because
if there are some games like the Monday night football
(02:28:12):
game you're already locked in, they're not changing the schedule,
but any other game, especially with the Texans this year,
could be flex either into the three to twenty five
spot or flexed off of a different gate.
Speaker 5 (02:28:24):
Patriots Saints seems like something that would be playing on
a loop if you don't make it into the pearly gates.
Speaker 4 (02:28:31):
Very well, I'm daddy. I mean the Saints are playing
bad enough football. Surprising how competitive they were last week
until they tried the stupid, stupid, stupid let's just give
it Chris Olave and have him throw it blindly floating
it to our quarterback at the five yard line and
have it picked off. They actually had a chance to
(02:28:51):
beat the Bills, and they did that instead. Yeah, and
New England's last game was against a comparably talented team,
as in, they weren't they embarrassed Carolina, And let's just
slide that matchup into a window. It's a little less
important at New We're I have a bunch of other games.
Do you give to the rest of the country. We'll
keep an eye on the currently one in three Texans
(02:29:13):
and see which pool of teams they fall into, the
one they want to flex in or the one they
want to flex out. What do we have elsewise?
Speaker 9 (02:29:21):
We don't bring this up yesterday, but part of the
reason why Bruce Boche may be leaving Arlington is because
of another job is opening up, and this is now
the fourth job that has opened up after the news
of Ron Washington and other people leaving Los Angeles. There
are currently four managerial jobs, including Bob Melboyne being fired
from the San Francisco Giants and rock A Bob Delhi
(02:29:42):
being fired from the Minnesota Twins after an embarrassing season.
Now the difference between these two is a buster Posey's
now in charge out into the Bay Area. He wants
to bring a new culture in and he felt like
the team after adding in Rafael Devers. Falling short of
making it to the playoffs this year, it's not enough
for Melvin to stay in charge.
Speaker 4 (02:30:02):
Meanwhile, the Twins at.
Speaker 9 (02:30:04):
The second worst record in Major League Baseball, only behind
the Colorado Rockies. If you get into the month of
June and on so Mon Delli's out. There's now an
opening out in Los Angeles, there's an opening out in
San Francisco, there's an opening out in Texas.
Speaker 4 (02:30:16):
Who's to say there could be more openings coming on up.
Speaker 9 (02:30:18):
There's already been rumors about what's going on down here
in Houston with Joe Espada and a couple of other
managers that could be fighting for their jobs, including one
mister Aaron Boone, who again, as you already mentioned, has
the Yankees up one nothing.
Speaker 4 (02:30:30):
Yeah, the Minnesota situation, obviously, in my opinion, doesn't fall
on Roco's shoulders for anything took place during twenty twenty five.
If you want to argue from previous seasons, maybe they
had reason to believe this wasn't gonna be their long
term answer. But they traded away their whole team and
then they won two more games than the Rockies after
the All Star break. What do you think they're gonna do?
(02:30:53):
You don't have any major league talent out there anymore,
and so he was given his walking papers. Some uncertain
interim situations also add to the total list of potential changes,
and like you said, Cole, there aren't necessarily there's no
cease fire on the firings just yet. It's only two
days since the season. But with interims and people who
have already been let go, seven of the eighteen teams
(02:31:15):
that did not qualify for the postseason, we'll have a
different manager starting next year than they did this year.
What else? Oh?
Speaker 9 (02:31:21):
Also, Don Kelly did get extended by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
So one managerial job that was closed is I mean
was open is now closed?
Speaker 4 (02:31:27):
Post All Star Break Astros thirty one wins, Don Kelly's
Pirates thirty two wins. He earned it. He did a
very good job. After that, he was made interim manager.
He has ties around baseball, including here, so good for him. Yeah,
he also had them.
Speaker 9 (02:31:44):
I think it was less than seven games under five
hundred if you just take his magerial career. Speaking of which,
we didn't bring this up yesterday, but Demiko Ryans did
announce that multiple players would be coming off of the
pup list.
Speaker 4 (02:31:55):
Jayden reed Deniko Autrey when.
Speaker 9 (02:31:58):
Asked about Joe mixon status, he declined to answer twice.
So Mixon is still on the NFL list right now, unavailable.
Speaker 4 (02:32:06):
For this upcoming week.
Speaker 9 (02:32:07):
Also, there has been rumored that he may or may
not be back.
Speaker 4 (02:32:10):
At all this season. He's not playing this year. I mean,
I haven't heard that anywhere. I'm just telling you guys,
he's not playing this year.
Speaker 5 (02:32:16):
So the sooner you come to that realization, they less
disappointed he'll be when it doesn't happen.
Speaker 4 (02:32:20):
Well, I'm not gonna be disappointed at all. If they
get production out of their running game and they finally
got it there just playing it. By the way, I
love that block and that I keep watching it. Yeah,
he just blew him up, and I you know again,
it's not personal to me, like some blueberries with that pancake.
The practice window for Reed and Audrey is expected to
be open. They don't have to come off the list
(02:32:41):
technically until they're activated, and they don't have to be activated.
They have three weeks to kind of get themselves into
having the team make a decision. When the three weeks
is up, if they haven't been activated already, then they
could just be left there, but that would be the
end of their respective seasons. Reid was hurt during camp,
Autrey came to camp and was placed on the pup then,
so he's been on it ever since. And a couple
(02:33:03):
of different outlets, a doctor who's on social media, just
a couple of them have released totally nonsense stuff about
Joe Mixon getting people to click by saying there's an
update and then giving no update. It's certainly nothing that
we haven't talked about and heard about here countless times locally,
But do you peeps out there love it on social media?
Speaker 2 (02:33:27):
The age on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 5 (02:33:34):
Am I the only one that thinks wex that as
we are less than a week away from the preseason
opener for the Rockets, and we were, you know, right
around all of them yesterday getting ready for the next campaign.
KD being at the top of that list that we've
(02:33:54):
been burying the lead and I know we'll give away
some tickets in a second. We've been burying the lead
on his Twitter slash X feud with Anthony Edwards.
Speaker 4 (02:34:04):
Yeah, I guess Solks, I'm totally unaware of you are. Yeah,
I mean, come on now, this is found astin X
and what is it.
Speaker 5 (02:34:13):
Well, we'll give away the tickets first and then I'll
inform everybody of what I'm talking about.
Speaker 4 (02:34:17):
All Right, we do have some tickets to give away.
Speaker 5 (02:34:19):
Four pack of tickets pit passes to Monster Jam October

Speaker 4 (02:34:43):
Go to uahcugars dot com.
Speaker 5 (02:34:45):
Slash tickets are called seven one three Go Koogs now
to get your tickets, Come early, be loud where you're
Houston Blue.
Speaker 4 (02:34:53):
Yeah, I mentioned earlier. I'll be out there as well,
so hopefully you'll have a chance to come out see
me over at the bud Light tailgate area before the game.
But I want to give you tickets to I'll go
see them play, or obviously your option to take tickets
to the four pack of Monster Jam tickets with Pitt passes.
Last segment, as we ran through in case you missed it,
one of the items we discussed was let's see, uh,
(02:35:17):
this is pretty easy to look up. Not telling you to,
but it's pretty easy to look up. How the Yankees
take the lead in this game? So player or manner
of taking the lead? Well, well, player hit a homer. Okay,
there it is. It's all you need to know seven
one three two one two five seven ninety. Specifically, because
(02:35:40):
you were listening intently to the A team, the only
way you would know the answer to this question seven
one three two one two five seven ninety. Your choice
of those tickets is at your disposal.
Speaker 5 (02:35:49):
I'm going to read aloud from Anthony Edwards account, thirty
seven and no kids got to be a career high
in the league.
Speaker 4 (02:35:58):
You weren't aware of this yet?
Speaker 5 (02:36:01):
No, that was Anthony Edwards's first volley, thirty seven and
no kids got to be a career high in the league.
Kevin Durant responded, I got seventeen years in the league,
zero baby.
Speaker 4 (02:36:14):
Mama's two rings. That's efficiency, young fella. So what's the
what's the negative side? I'm hearing the positive side, like
we know what life's like when we hear some players
talk about it. Dwight Howard rolled through Houston just as
an example. Shquale O'Neal. We were watching something from him
earlier today. Okay, so Anthony Edwards wants to start beef
(02:36:39):
with Durant for I don't know, not having chosen of
baby mamas. Oh, I thought you were going to say
for not having chosen to come play in Midsoda. That's
what I think the perception is. Why you know, I
wanted you here. We wanted you here. We're gonna win
if you come here and you said no. Yeah, he
should be mad at him if you want to believe that,
that's fine. But what did he actually tweet like is
(02:37:02):
that a huge dig that? Like, Wow, hey you are
this looks bad on You's I'm gonna get Kevin, this
looks bad on you. Been in the league for almost
twenty years, almost forty and you don't have any kids.
Speaker 5 (02:37:19):
Burn I was thirty seven and still didn't have my
first biological child.
Speaker 4 (02:37:26):
Yeah, were you visiting, you know, twenty eight thirty other
cities every year? Were you up in five star hotels?
Were you a multi millionaire? Were you one of the
best to do what you do in the entire world?
Planet that part right there, Like he's living in a
little bit different stratosphere.
Speaker 5 (02:37:44):
I just don't like you said, like, Anthony Edwards is
top five player in the NBA, top six player in
the NBA.
Speaker 4 (02:37:52):
He's really awesome. But what do you worry about this
stuff for? That's what social media people are bored. Okay,
he'll get his hobbies basketball or out of season or
figure out why you couldn't advance as far as I
thought you were going to this year. Now, Kevin didn't
seem to like it, so it worked.
Speaker 5 (02:38:11):
But that's because Kevin doesn't like it when anybody comes
at him on social media.
Speaker 4 (02:38:15):
Because He's not gonna slay down for it. He's very
like bored. He's basically said as much. Right.
Speaker 5 (02:38:21):
If I knew him better yesterday when I saw him
for the first time in person, I would have asked
him about his burner game.
Speaker 4 (02:38:28):
Well, he is clearly has it because it's been it's
been noted, but he doesn't even go to it when
he doesn't feel like it. You say something, Anthony Edwards,
you say something random fan, He's just at Katie Trey
five right back at you.
Speaker 5 (02:38:45):
I also probably would have taken a trip down memory
lane with him, much like I did with Mike Fratello,
and just asked him what inspired him to say he's
an idiot my favorite Kevin Ramp sound bites of all time.
Speaker 4 (02:39:01):
He forgot the end in the word.
Speaker 5 (02:39:03):
But you know, I don't know. I can't get over
the fact. And by the way, I had wanted to
play this earlier and we could play it tomorrow. Jabari
Smith Junior was asked about something that I think is
going to be a big talking point. Definitely don't think
you should start this year well, definitely going into the season,
but certainly as a season unfolds and we see what
(02:39:26):
the result of his offseason work has been But this
is true. It sounds like a cliche, or it sounds
like a tagline or a nice narrative locally here, But
if a Men Thompson has a jump shot, it's it
takes him to a whole different level of player, and
it takes that contract out of the stratosphere as well.
Speaker 4 (02:39:45):
Well, Men did say something about that. We'll play that
also tomorrow, but additionally he added, I'm not gonna fall
in love with the three point shot. He was noted
how well he shot it from the corner and if
that would continue he didn't even have dance, or of
course it's going to continue. You have something you do well,
and the team knows it and it's good for your offense.
You'll keep doing it no matter who's in or out
(02:40:07):
of the lineup. But a jump shot twelve to fifteen feet,
fifteen to eighteen feet, I absolutely believe that's coming. I
believe a threat at the three point line is coming.
But I also think he's telling us all the truth.
The best way for him to be greatest probably not
developing a three point shot and shooting six to nine
three is a game, like so many wing players do.
It's dominating in the ways that he's already about to dominate,
(02:40:30):
which is so good for he and his teammates no
matter what team he played for. It's so unique. That
word seemed to come up a bunch yesterday too in
the main media sessions his unique talents, you know, Dorian
Finney Smith saying he goes in there late night and
sees Jabari working out, sees a men working out. You know,
he just sees him jumping around and see you know,
they already know outsiders. Specifically the three guys that we
(02:40:53):
talked to yesterday, Josha Kobe, Dorian Finney Smith and Kevin Durant,
three people I was there for from outside teams they
were watching they paid very close attention to They obviously
did when they played against him, but even from afar
If Dorian Phinney Smith was talking like he was an
analyst on the Warriors Rockets postseason series, talking about how
(02:41:13):
much better a men got as the series went on.
Believe me, people players around the league pay attention to
other players around the league a lot more than they
would ever let on. Like if he was elsewhere, Dorian
Finney Smith wasn't a rocket. He probably would never be
talking about things like that, even when they played them,
even when their matchups came up. But now that he's
his teammate, he'll readily acknowledge. Yeah, I like watching this
(02:41:35):
guy play, and I can't wait to see what else
is there. And now I'm his teammate. And that was
another thing that I think was a big theme of
the Rockets yesterday. They probably believe it, and I kind
of do too. They have a big three oh Humper
and Shingoon, Amen Thompson and Kevin Durant.
Speaker 5 (02:41:51):
It's not ideal, but this is why I'm not just
apoplectic about Fred vamperas that ideal. What are they too big?
Going down too long? They're fine, They're gonna be very fine.
We will call the day at that. We will back
at it again tomorrow at two o'clock right back in
here and on Space City Home Network as well. But
for Cole, for wex I, a C. It is the
(02:42:12):
eight team Sports Talk seven ninety. We'll talk to you
again tomorrow too, The A team on Sports Talk seven
ninety
