Speaker 1 (00:05):
You two lifelong Houston sports guys named Adam Raised.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
My Earl.
Speaker 1 (00:12):
Nolan multipot the magnificent roller coaster ride.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
That is Houston Sports.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
Chill late down for the only homegrown afternoon team is.
Speaker 3 (00:30):
Talking your teams?
Speaker 4 (00:33):
Adam Clinton and Adam Wexler are the A teams.
Speaker 5 (00:38):
A What's Up Houston at two o'clock here on a
(00:59):
Tuesday edition of the eight team Sports Talk seven ninety
taking you until six o'clock tonight, and mercifully the Astros
schedule resume.
Speaker 6 (01:09):
By the way, wex I did not realize this.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
That the Astros just completed a stretch where they had
played seventeen straight correct, that was the uh.
Speaker 6 (01:18):
Before this last little small group of games. Yeah right,
and now they're about to do what in a row? Again?
What move? They've got three four consecutive series, one of
which is a four game series, so thirteen consecutive days
of baseball. Good god, It's like I said it, probably
every year for the last couple when it happens like this.
I can't believe how up in arms people get about this.
(01:40):
They just happen all the time, no, I know. And
I think they also never have doubleheaders, right, Well, they
try not to. They're not scheduled exactly, and normally when
that happens, it's because of mother nature. They all sketul
and their rosters are bigger. Well, I don't know what else,
what else you need?
Speaker 7 (01:57):
You know?
Speaker 2 (01:57):
My favorite thing about the so you know what, my
least favorite carryover from the COVID era was the Manford Man,
the gift runner, the stupid gimmick on second base and
extra innings.
Speaker 6 (02:07):
Well, you know what, my favorite, God, there was an
extra runner in second base. Some of these games the
teams are winning by two and three and four runs
at a time.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
But am I correct in that they didn't call it
a taxi squad and tell COVID or was it always Well,
there's no.
Speaker 6 (02:18):
Such thing really, Yeah, but that's state like saying, Brandon
Walter being on the taxi squad before he made his
start is more to me formality. Well, I don't even
know why it exists, Like, do you have to tell
us that he flew in. He's not on the roster.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
He didn't even fly in. In some cases he drove
in from sugar Land.
Speaker 6 (02:36):
They were on the road. But yeah, I just I'm
curious why it even exists. Why the terminology even exists,
why there's even such a thing. Everybody knows he's pitching
the next day, and everybody knows you don't have to
put him on the roster until the next day because
you want to. You know, the Forest Whitley getting DFAD, Well,
he got DFA because they played all their games and
nobody got hurt and nobody was stretched to the point
(02:57):
where they couldn't pitch that had options, so they waited
in the last minute, and this is the decision. I mean,
that's kind of why do you do all these things?
And that's two days old. The Astros will be back
on the mound and at the Ballyard here locally, with
the Astros starting two series at home, first against the
White Sox, then against the Twins. Lance mccullors junior full
(03:17):
week of rest in between starts, with the off day
and the six man rotation that they are headed into
kind of keep everybody else in line. Ryan Gusto fromber
Valdez expected to get the other two starts in this series.
The series begins with the Astros gaining a half a
game on the Mariners last night, with the Mariners scoring
four runs in the ninth inning to tie the game,
(03:39):
and then they lost on a four run homer to
get walked off by the player we talked about yesterday,
Josh Naylor. As the Diamondbacks have beat the Mariners yesterday,
so it is a full three games for the Astros
heading into this weekend. They obviously get to try to
take advantage of the central that they are playing. They
fared well against Minnesota earlier in the year when Minnesota
(03:59):
wasn't playing nearly as well as they are now, it
looked like they might be one of the surprise teams
in baseball in the worst way, in the Atlanta Braves
type of way. But they bounced back from a very
slow start rapidly and they're very much in the thick
of things in the playoff race. They along with the
team the Astros just beat two out of three, the
Guardians and the Royals, all trying to do as well
as they can to keep pace with the Tigers, the Tigers,
(04:22):
the Yankees, and your Astros, the three teams leading their
respective divisions this time at this point in the year,
with about one hundred games to go, a little bit
less than that and all things, you know, really look
fairly good for the Astros. Should hopefully get some an
update on where things are with Spencer Aarraghetti, because this
should be around the time where pitching is in his future,
(04:44):
pitching against hitters, pitching in a minor league rehab start,
because he's obviously going to need several weeks to get
up to speed, and all that goes with us discussing
that we'll hear from. Joe Aspata at three point thirty
made his weekly visit to Sports Talk seven to ninety
earlier today, so we'll share some of his thoughts with
you in advance of this series beginning. The Texans were
on the field for the second to last time this
(05:05):
offseason tomorrow will be the last time, and by now,
since it happened well over three hours ago, about four
and a half hours ago, to be exact. CJ. Stroud,
if there was no news before today, if there were
no practices before today, if there wasn't an online oh
my god going on, we wouldn't have known anything was different.
The way he practiced today, took all of his normal snaps,
(05:27):
made throws when those plays called for it, did his
seven on sevens, did his eleven on eleven's, passed the
ball handled, the ball off, had the whistle blow when
the defender would have sacked him, dropped the football once
because he got run into, not hard, but just a
little bit. That's the evidence of a sack in the
red jersey practice format that they're in, and they'll do
(05:48):
it all again tomorrow. But CJ and Demico Ryans obviously
both commented on that after practice, so we'll definitely hear
from them. The more information we have, the better we're
prepared to tell you about what's going on. And now
we have even more information since CJ told us a
little bit about why we are here, why there were
multiple practices last week where we didn't see him throw.
(06:08):
But he also indicated to us, I threw you just
didn't see it. I've been throwing you guys just haven't
seen it. But that's not our that's the way that
the team designed it because they invite us to certain
practices and if he is not throwing at those practices,
that is what we do not see. So the concern
meter should have been low. And I'm not sure where
else you're getting your information, but this is the place
(06:30):
to get it, and it wasn't very high here for
good reason. There shouldn't been any reason for it to
be high. And you can't tell me how to control emotions. No,
I'm just telling you what you can believe, what you
want to believe. You can listen to people who aren't there.
You can listen to people who only read what other
people report. It's up to you. I'm telling you you
don't need to do that when you come to this program,
(06:50):
because we're there, we have the information. We talked to
the people both on site and elsewhere. I thought I
was pretty proud of myself with my sourced information on CJ. Stroud.
Sources indicate c J. Stroud did not have surgery. There
were some people wondering whether or not he did when
he told us I did not have surgery. That is
(07:12):
the source I listed on my post on x c J.
Stroud source.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
Well, it's about as reliable as source as you can get,
given that is the proverbial horse's mouth, and he's my
favorite horse on the Texans by the way.
Speaker 6 (07:24):
Yeah, it also stood to reason that had there been
a procedure, the likelihood of it being completely hidden and
unreported and unleaked it was pretty unlikely. And I guess
at this point I'll take their word for it, but yeah,
I don't have any reason to think otherwise. There were
a couple of other things quite obviously notable from practice today,
so we'll get into that. I will empty the notebook
because the notebook was actually used. The OTA practice are
(07:47):
a little bit lighter, a little bit less to see,
a little bit less to take note of than a
practice today. But as de Miko reminded when questions were
asked about their offensive line specifically, I really can't tell
you much about where we are because they're not in pads.
Because until you do that on the offensive line, in
the defensive line, I mean, these are his little awards.
(08:08):
I can't really tell you where we are because it
doesn't matter. If I can tell you on this play,
this defender who's not wearing pads ran by this offensive
protector who's also not wearing pads, and they're on the
practice field and they can't touch the quarterback. I can
tell you, well, that was probably a sack. Well, he
probably won that rep. But it doesn't really mean a
whole lot until you're winning a rep in pads. And
(08:30):
again I'll point to I can't wait till they have
joint practices. I will know for a fact if Will
Anderson beats one of the Panthers linemen on a REP,
if daneil Hunter beats one of the Lions linemen on
a rep, or if Blake Fisher gets beat by Aiden
Hutchinson on a rep, and that could very well happen,
all these things will be clear as day. We're only
(08:51):
two months plus away from that.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
I Uh, by the way, last night was just electric.
Not that I was up for it, but I heard
when I woke up, and I just it is again.
I can't believe how much worse at this point in
the season the Astros were, and yet how much I
think we have lamented what has not been going right
(09:16):
for this team up until probably like, well, not you,
I'm putting this on me. I'm not speaking for you
because you're always even keeled and cyborg like.
Speaker 6 (09:24):
Feel like it is like I'm watching them play every day.
I know what they can and can't do, but are
also watching them rack up wins. That's the thing.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
And that graphic that you brought up yesterday on the show,
it's actually appalling when you go back and you not
only look at the Astros and the fact that they
had only played what fifteen or seventeen games against teams
under five.
Speaker 6 (09:44):
Hundred fifteen, it will rise to sixteen. You know what
was at the top of that list, the Dodgers. Yeah, yeah,
they're getting fat on crap. Now.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
I know they're good, but come on, man like, it
makes me appreciate what the Astros have done already and
what they could do, because if they've played that, there's
a lot of bad baseball teams out there. This just
in and I'm I'm not saying it's like majors are
loaded with them, but they haven't played a ton of them.
And like you said, they're about to start tonight. Now
(10:12):
you have to do your part of it and sweep them.
Don't lose a game to the White Sox.
Speaker 6 (10:18):
Don't do it. Fifty of the astros sixty five games,
on the other side of it, are against teams above
five hundred. That's a lot. That's more than anybody else
in the American League, and in most cases it's significantly more.
Yankees one of the other first place teams, they've played
forty the Tigers another first place team, they've played forty four.
And I mentioned this yesterday. It will fluctuate very quickly.
(10:40):
When the Mariners don't win their game today against the Diamondbacks,
they'll be thirty three and thirty three whose starting pitch
games will fall off of the Astros list. They'll drop
down to having only played forty three games against teams
over five. So it goes from fifty to forty three
in there, just like that. Nine. Yeah, so it's very
very much in the moment now number. But if that
(11:03):
happens and they fall to five hundred and the Astros
can manage to win a game over the White Sox,
they won't even be halfway through the season. They will
have taken seven and a half games or six and
a half games in their direction, and about the last
two weeks they'll have a four game lead in the
division over the Mariners, potentially a six or six and
(11:23):
a half game lead over the Angels and Rangers, who
will be falling four and five games under five hundred.
The Rangers are four games under five hundred today and
they're the only team in baseball that has three starting
pitchers with an ERA under two to twenty five. But
they can't score runs, so they keep losing those games
that those pitchers start, and they don't have anything else.
Everyone's pointing to what might get done. Until these teams
(11:46):
make these so called well they need a bat so
they'll definitely go out and get one great keep waiting
and keep losing. It will be that much easier for
the Astros and other teams watching. The teams that need
something don't do anything. Dana Brown will join the Searlen
Salisbury Show this week, as he usually does, presumably tomorrow
at nine AM is normal time slot, and we're probably
(12:08):
at the point in the schedule where we should be
ready for this line from him. Getting yord On Alvarez back,
it will be like our a deadline deal, like a trade.
We'll be getting this caliber player back as we get
through the next part of our season. The Astros continue
to extend their league, playing their best baseball this season
while awaiting the return, presumably if healthy, one of the
(12:30):
five best hitters in the American League. Nobody's going to
trade for a player better than yord On Alvarez, provided
he is who he's always been. But the Astros will
quote unquote.
Speaker 2 (12:41):
I know they do it seemingly every year. Where's the lie?
Exactly why he says it?
Speaker 6 (12:47):
Yeah, I get I.
Speaker 2 (12:48):
Mean they're in first place right now, and they have
done all of that basically because when he was still playing,
they were not playing good baseball without him.
Speaker 6 (12:55):
Today's June tenth, May third, the last time he played,
May fifth, went on the IL.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
What was our record then? How many games under five
hundred is what I really should at They.
Speaker 6 (13:05):
Were right, they weren't far from where they are. I
think there are now four games over five hundred without him,
maybe five?
Speaker 2 (13:11):
Okay, I know you know this or have it charted
what their record is without him at this point?
Speaker 6 (13:15):
Well, I because it changes so quickly every day and
I don't chart it. This is one of the many,
many reasons the eight pages worth of notes that the
Astros send out every day have tremendous value. In Jordan
Alvarez's case, this will be game number thirty five without him.
Doesn't mean they all came during oh excuse me. It
(13:36):
does mean they all came during this injured list stint.
So thirty five games tonight after he went on the
our retroactively went on out in the aisle. There are
six games over in the thirty four games he's missed,
so they were over five hundred before he left.
Speaker 7 (13:51):
It.
Speaker 6 (13:51):
I even need him by one game.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
All right, there's a lot to get to. As you mentioned,
we will hear from both c J. Stroud and Demiko
Ryans when we come back. I I'm mad at Rob
Manford again, and this time all of you will agree
with me. Actually every time, you will all agree with
me when it comes to that guy and does Kadie
have a trade preference? We'll get to all that and
(14:13):
more on a Tuesday edition of the program.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
The eighteen on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (14:30):
It is the eighteen Sports Talk seven ninety. It's a
Tuesday edition the program. Before we go any further, and
we hear from both CJ. Stroud and Adamico Ryans. Correct
me if I'm wrong. Did you not predict last week
that CJ would not throw the football?
Speaker 8 (14:47):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (14:47):
I was just again with limited information about the reasoning
before it, and this the more we've gotten it's it
sounds like it's strictly a timing issue. If the Texans
were holding mini camp in three weeks. Based on what
we saw today, if their OTAs were being held in
three weeks for the first time, he probably would have
thrown at all. It's more of a where where did
(15:10):
he start having issues of general soreness, whatever the case
may be. To where we were two weeks ago when
they got to minicamp for the first time, Okay, well
we need to not have him throw. They didn't think
this is the best plan of action. It's just the
time of where we're in in the injury situation versus
this is something they have to be concerned with longer term.
Like I went so far as to say, wouldn't surprise
(15:30):
me if they got to training camp and they're going
to be pitch counting him, they're going to be limiting
his throws. I mean, before we talk to them, I
actually counted charted every pass just to make sure. I
of course did how many times did he actually throw
the football? And just because of what was going on,
But yeah, I predicted that he wouldn't throw because I
(15:52):
thought the timing made more sense for him not to.
Speaker 8 (15:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (15:55):
No, if he's not gonna throw on May late May,
and then he's not gonna throw in early June, then
why would he throw week later? I mean, he's you
got based on what he did today, this is about
twenty five passes, another twenty five tomorrow. Why bother or
he threw today because there's nothing wrong. He threw today
because they're unconcerned. He threw today because this is not
(16:16):
some lingering. Oh my gosh, DA's had this problem for
weeks and they didn't know how to fix it. It's
nothing like any of the things. It doesn't appear to
be anything like that at all.
Speaker 2 (16:27):
Well, before we get to what was said by people
like us, let's get to what people like him had
to say about people like us saying those very things.
Speaker 9 (16:36):
C J.
Speaker 2 (16:37):
Stroud today on all the hubbub around him not throwing
versus throwing.
Speaker 8 (16:42):
Yeah, I mean I was already throwing, you know before
you guys seen me out there pretty normally. I just
I think y'all don't have much to talk about. So
y'all just everything is blown up in all season. So
I'm fine, man, I'm really okay.
Speaker 2 (16:54):
So I could and I kind of characterize that as
him taking a snipe at the media.
Speaker 6 (16:59):
It's like, well, that was the third time he'd given
an answer about it, and I'm not trying to drum
up he's tired of talking. No, it was just his
third response. He'd already given him some information. He was
giving a perfectly yeah. So he was kind of describing
the situation, and he knows what we were doing and
everybody else was doing on the socials, and yeah, it
was a big deal and it should be a big deal. Correct,
(17:21):
there's only thirty two of you, CJ. And it's not
about two starting quarterbacks. If you practice and the quarterback
is in attendance but not capable or being asked to
do the things you would normally be asked to do
at a practice. Yeah, we're going to talk about it,
probably more than most everything else that took place. Two things.
Speaker 2 (17:40):
It's it is a big deal, like you're saying, and
it's not just because we're talking about it on June tenth,
which happens to be a relatively light portion of the
sports calendar in comparison to say, the middle of a
NFL campaign or the.
Speaker 6 (17:52):
Middle of the NFL season, we would have been going
berserk berserk, and well should we.
Speaker 2 (17:57):
But the other half that I'm not again, this isn't
this is the other side of it, And this is
not me doing pr for CJ. It's just that. And
you know this better than I do, because you've been
around him more than I have. But I will never
forget after the regular season loss at Kansas City. In
other words, the one where Tank Dell got hurt, and
(18:17):
that was like a morgue going into that locker room,
but also at the podium, which is where CJ gave
his thoughts. And I think I remember talking about this
when we get when I got back to town and we
were on the show together. Somebody asked a question and
he kind of, as I recall, he either he didn't
snap at them, but like he he apologized to the
(18:41):
reporter because he didn't want it to come off as
if he was being disrespectful towards them in his response. Again,
I've slept since then. That was in December. It was
right around Christmas time. But like that's the kind of
guy CJ is. So I don't like, I say, he's
sniping at the media, and you did a good job
clarifying it.
Speaker 6 (19:01):
He's not upset, not in any way. It was in
a playful way that he said. He was smiling when
he said it, and he had already been speaking with
us about it for several minutes.
Speaker 2 (19:09):
He's like the anti I don't even know. Like I
didn't even want to say Aaron Rodgers because Aaron Rodgers
can still be good with the media. But I'm trying
to think of a guy who's a quarterback who's kind
of surly, and I really honestly can't think of one
right now off the top of my head. That's why
I said Aaron Rodgers has his moments, but he's also
a media darling, and not just for Pat McAfee.
Speaker 6 (19:31):
Mean, he's a quote machine. They love him. He's a
media darling because he provides content. It's not that he's
giving you this In comparing that to c. J. Strauss
talking about football, right, Aaron Rodgers being a media darling
has nothing to do with football when all the media
content he's giving has nothing to do with football, it
does someone who does. The appearances are not, Man, it
(19:52):
was awesome. Did you hear what he said today about
the route that Garrett Wilson ran and how it worked
so well and things are are cooking here?
Speaker 8 (19:58):
Oh?
Speaker 6 (19:58):
Do you hear him talk about you know how he
Matt Lafleur are getting along so well that they've come
up with some new designs for their offense. The last
three years have been none of that. Locally, Yes, some
of the media at Green Bay practices or more recently
Jets practices. They'll get some of that, but most the
media darling stuff with Aaron is just, oh, he was
on McAfee today. Let's transcribe all the nonsense. Let's transcribe
(20:20):
all the controversial things he has to say. Let's transcribe
him liking living in the dark and everything that goes
with it. I mean, that's why it became such a
thing because of his willingness. How many players now there's
more and more of them because of the advent of podcasts,
but the access to his thoughts pretty large. He was
(20:41):
giving a lot more than most other players do, just
because he's spending time in that scenario, in that venue,
so to speak. You get in twenty minutes of Aaron
Rodgers every week. You're getting ten minutes of a quarterback
every week all over the league. But those ten minutes
are at the podium at the team facility with fifteen
different peace people asking questions, maybe seven of which are good. Maybe.
(21:03):
So it's just a very very different pile of information. Initially,
this is what CJ. Stroud had to say.
Speaker 8 (21:10):
I took this off season very serious. I'm just working hard,
trying to get my body right. So I was here
like like pretty early with Klant, you know, our stramed guy.
So I've been working really hard on kidding my body right,
losing body fat, kind of be faster, stronger, and you know,
it really went really well. But there's always risk for reward,
you know. So there's always risk to working hard. So
you know, it was a great off season. I think
(21:31):
I got I got that done.
Speaker 6 (21:33):
So he was talking a little bit about why they
got to this point, why there were reasons why they
didn't want him throwing, and continued when he talked about
returning to practice, which we'll share with you next. CJ.
Stroud's initial thoughts on returning to practicing throwing the football.
Mind you, he wasn't missing practice last week. We were
or weren't there. He was there. But when it would
(21:54):
go to all right, we might be passing the ball here,
that's Davis time, that's Keaton's this time. We'll talk to
you more about that and we'll empty the notebook all
as we continue here. But don't forget halfway through our
number one, we hit you with best of.
Speaker 1 (22:07):
X the eighteen on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 6 (22:17):
Did you see this?
Speaker 3 (22:18):
We should be putting out between five and fifteen posts.
Speaker 2 (22:21):
Four hundred people were arrested for things that they said
on social media.
Speaker 10 (22:25):
History repeats itself type bang, you will succeed.
Speaker 3 (22:30):
Never doubt that you're.
Speaker 6 (22:31):
The one who post no one building lead.
Speaker 10 (22:34):
You're the best of X. Nothing's gonna ever top you.
Now you're the best of X. Post you ever seen
day and you're the best of X breaking the entire internet.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
Well gosh, I hope that didn't offend so many people
hearing you seeing that again like you do every single day.
Adam Wexler, what was the guy's name is slid into
your DM.
Speaker 6 (23:05):
I mentioned yesterday, same for today.
Speaker 2 (23:06):
Man, if I could get you to slip and say it,
all right, I will go first here and last. You're
not gonna do anything that's gonna take us the whole
second I thought for sure that's true. All right, I'll
ignore what a form former olympian just said, and instead
(23:27):
I will go directly to, among others, Front Office Sports,
where we were informed earlier today that Major League Baseball
has acquired an undisclosed minority stake. Interesting, man, it's big
(23:48):
news every time you hear that a sports league has acquired.
Speaker 6 (23:52):
It's a lot better when you stop there. Well, that's
why I'm doing it. It's for effect. It sounds like
it matters. Thank you, Thank you. They've obtained a minority
stake in Wow, what extremely successful massive business venture's going
to help the Major League Baseball grow their sport. This
is going to be awesome.
Speaker 2 (24:10):
Yeah, until you find out that they have acquired an
undisclosed minority stake in that jackass john Boy Media. The
agreement will grant JOm Boy Media access to league and
team IP merch and sponsorship collaborations and having a presence
(24:30):
for some of its content on MLB platforms. Let me
just go down the list of issues I have with
this jackassery that Major League Baseball and its noted Yankees
fan commissioner lifelong Rob Manfred is now leaning into.
Speaker 6 (24:50):
So you think if Rob Manfred had an X account
in his bio, after it says Robert Manfred with the
blue check gold Goche Manfred, it would say Yankees fan
after yeah, I would say lifelong Yankees fan. The Jamboy
(25:10):
bio says not a reporter Yankees fan. Yeah, that's just
one small angle we could take with this. They produce
Yankees content, also produce Major League Baseball content, but bostically
Yankees specifically have a Yankees podcast and other assorted Yankees
(25:31):
related material. I know you've probably come find this as
a huge surprise, but they're they're based in New York,
and they are Yankees fans, so I'm assuming their interest
in this company is very, very limited, but they're associated
with them now, no matter how limited it might be,
(25:52):
and I find that very interesting. On that note alone,
There's much more and much worse than just that, which
I figured is the yank you're going to take, and
the reason why fits here may be better than anywhere else.
Best of X is because we'll go to the comments
for some thoughts on this, but I think generally speaking,
most people would find it off putting the manner in
(26:16):
which this company you are championing by becoming a minority
stakeholder in the way they rose to prominence being a
useful to some outlet for content. Well.
Speaker 2 (26:30):
Look, prior to the astros cheating scandal, he had gotten
himself a nice following by basically breaking down bad umpiring,
among other things, reading lips.
Speaker 6 (26:44):
Yeah on field videos usually involving arguments where players, managers
umpires were yelling at each other.
Speaker 2 (26:50):
Which is fine, I have no problem with any of that,
even Yankees related, which it clearly was geared far more
towards that than any other team.
Speaker 6 (26:58):
But he did other teams.
Speaker 2 (26:59):
But then the Yankees or then the Astros cheating scandal
comes out, and there's no doubt it's not even an
argument that the guy vaulted into the stratosphere to where
he could even be offered something like this largely on
not only bashing the Astros organization and its players, but
(27:21):
out and out lying about them. John Boy was the
one that rode with that. I don't even know if
it's a fake account or what, but supposedly Carlos Beltron
had a niece who had a Twitter account at the
time that John Boy took as the gospel truth that
Al Tuve was wearing a buzzer when he hit that
game and series clinching.
Speaker 6 (27:40):
Home run against the Yankees. I don't know why I'm
talking like that. I'll go to my text threat boys
from around the state that for decades got some people
in Dallas, got some people in San Antonio, here in Houston,
myself included ten thirty AM. Major League Baseball acquires a
stake in John Boy. I love those guys. Sorry, Houston.
(28:01):
Another response that was that's from Jason. Greg says, you
can use their names. Greg says, what is that? Jason?
Basically a lip reader of Major League Baseball players managers ups.
I think they rose to fame when the Astros were cheating.
I was a Texans practice, That's one way to put it,
and I.
Speaker 2 (28:20):
Figured it was probably time for me to rose to
fame when the Astros were cheating.
Speaker 6 (28:24):
You kind of left out some details there. Jason rose
to fame. This is me rose to fame by popularizing
the made up buzzer and pointing everyone to the bogus
Beltron Niece tweet.
Speaker 2 (28:36):
Those are two very important details Jason left out.
Speaker 6 (28:40):
It was a free flowing thing. Ari said, Yep, they
called a piece of confetti a buzzer.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
Again, at least he's on the right side of truth.
But there he's there. He's underselling it.
Speaker 6 (28:51):
Their sports version of conspiracy theorists just a group of trolls.
Speaker 2 (28:56):
That's that's accurate. Is san Antonio? Uh No, he's in Dallas, right,
He's from Dallas and thus is in Dallas. Yes, what
part of Dalla?
Speaker 6 (29:06):
What did you say? What part of Dallas? Probably Plano.
I mean, I'd lose track of the age as a
residence of some of these people that I know very
very well.
Speaker 2 (29:14):
Jason needs to call into the show so I can
yell at him. Well he's I'm sure he was very busy.
These people.
Speaker 6 (29:18):
I am amazed how often they're able to text each other.
I think they have jobs and everything, and they're constantly
blowing up my phone. He's probably busy at work. He's
just trying to get the information out. You mute the
thread never. I have a thread that I turn off
notifications when I'm holding my phone up and interviewing people.
Speaker 2 (29:35):
But other than that, that's what you do to me
because if I'm going to say something inappropriate that somebody
behind you you're afraid is going to see, and it
might be about them.
Speaker 6 (29:43):
Behind me, in front of anybody in the room, Well.
Speaker 2 (29:45):
If you wouldn't be standing around so many idiots all.
Speaker 6 (29:47):
The time, it wouldn't have to there. It has to
do with I'm there anyway, So it is. I do
think that there's a lot of questions for Major League Baseball,
and I wonder when and if someone will be in
position to I kind of have them answer to them,
because of this alignment. I do believe it's probably super
duper limited, but nonetheless you mentioned the word ip so
(30:08):
access to some of their intellectual property. Chris added to
this post on the X platform. It's somebody walking from
their house with garbage and throwing it in the garbage
can on the side of the road. Grace says, what
an absolute joke. Major League Baseball just bought a minority
stake and the company creating videos that make Umps look
bad in an attempt to stop videos that make Umps
(30:30):
look bad. No, not gonna work that. Unbiased Mets fans says,
really bad look for major League Baseball. Major League Baseball
just got a bunch of Yankee marks to be a
face of the league.
Speaker 2 (30:46):
You're monetizing and happy and helping to monetize a fraud.
Speaker 6 (30:51):
Yeah, I get their product, I enjoy its good for them.
But major League Baseball total swing and miss on this one.
Speaker 2 (30:59):
You know, I know I'm right. I mean, among other
millions of reasons, the guy and all of his entities,
it's not just John Boy Media, it's whatever else talking
all the accounts, all of them have blocked me, all
of them because and this jackass went on with Nick Wright.
I can't believe I even set his name on our show,
(31:20):
and Nick Wright was like basically gassing him up and
calling me a clown without saying my name, of course.
And then when I left him a voicemail because he
wouldn't pick up because he's a coward. Never never, of
course responded because he's a jackass too. So two jackasses
were interviewing each other about this again.
Speaker 6 (31:40):
It's just it's amusing to me.
Speaker 2 (31:42):
And I don't ever want to hear anybody in Major
League Baseball ever talk about Oh, Astros reacting like victims. Yeah,
Astros fans are victims more than anybody in this whole thing.
More so, I would argue than Dodgers and Yankees fans
who get to lustily boo them and attack them physically
in their venues repeatedly all the time, and nothing happens
to them. Oh absolutely, When you can't go to a
(32:06):
urinal and stand there and take a leak at Yankee
Stadium without having a beer bottle thrown at your head.
When when Dodgers fans were I'll call it, I'll just say,
are you taking the beer bottle? I'll just call it
accosting me. And this is before. This is during the
World Series. We're walking out of Game six, Justin Verlander
just blew his lead and the Astros are gonna have
(32:26):
to win it in Game seven on their field the
very next night. And these guys were all up in
my face. And let me just to paint a picture
walking out with the group that mattress Mac had sent
us all you know, on his charter jet.
Speaker 6 (32:40):
And I'm with Teresa.
Speaker 2 (32:41):
I'm wearing a bright orange Justin Verlander Jersey, and they
are They're closer to me than my laptop screen is
right now, and they are screaming in my face. And
all I'm getting is the most violent squeeze of my
hand of all time. She almost broke my hand because
she knew what I wanted to do.
Speaker 6 (33:01):
Hey, hey, hey.
Speaker 2 (33:03):
She goes get straight to the bus. Do not even
acknowledge anybody you can me that I was so mad.
Dodgers fans are swine props to John Boy, and so
is John Boys way to bring in some more funds.
This will be good for the company.
Speaker 6 (33:17):
Yeah, I'm really happy him. Won't when they say we'd
really prefer if you stop doing this.
Speaker 2 (33:22):
What I hope they do is water down his quote
product and eventually he just fades away like he deserves,
into oblivion.
Speaker 6 (33:30):
But I don't know.
Speaker 2 (33:31):
They're getting basically facilitated and life supported by Major League Baseball,
so probably the opposite will happen, because well again, Rob
Manford is the worst commissioner in all of pro.
Speaker 1 (33:41):
Sports the a on Sports Talk seven ninety so.
Speaker 2 (33:53):
Yourself that I'm sorry, but I have to go through.
Speaker 6 (33:58):
A few more exchanges on this John Boy thing.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
This sticks in my craw just because at the end
of the day, like I said last segment, WEX, I
feel like the Astros.
Speaker 6 (34:07):
Fans were the ones that were punished the most.
Speaker 2 (34:10):
The CBA that was collectively bargained and agreed to by
all teams, by the way voted upon all that that's
the real reason the players weren't punished. They collectively bargained
for the immunity they were provided in exchange for telling
the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
Speaker 6 (34:30):
So help them whoever.
Speaker 2 (34:32):
And that's why when I see people like Yankees fans
or Dodgers fans, or really anybody for.
Speaker 6 (34:37):
That matter, the players never even get punished.
Speaker 2 (34:40):
Right because your player rep helped vote for the system
that was put into place, so they wouldn't be That's
the first thing you need to know. The second thing
you need to know is that people like at Florida
Underscore Grand are some of the dumbest people on the planet.
Speaker 6 (34:56):
And here's why. The true power.
Speaker 2 (34:59):
By the way, this is a response to the front
office story that Major League Baseball has acquired an undisclosed
minority stake in John Boy Media the true power of
social Media. I don't know why I'm reading this, like
ron bergende.
Speaker 6 (35:12):
Here's all sorts of voices.
Speaker 2 (35:13):
The story John Boy should be taught in every business
school throughout America about how to effectively use social media
platforms to become a money player in the game. Those
are three clapping emojis that he put after that right
out of the gate at Clutch City. Dude, wonder what
city he represents? Step one Sprendo Phoenix, not New York.
(35:38):
Spread lies about the team that keeps embarrassing yours in
the postseason, You too, can build a career off one
viral moment. Now that was someone else. I'm actually not
sure if they're from Houston. His response to that just
cements the fact that he's a moron. Success isn't about
one moment. It's about how to sustain it effectively. Haktua
(35:59):
is one example. Yes, Florida grand Because when I think
about sustaining a viral moment effectively, I think about hawk
to a girl who I don't know where she is now,
do you?
Speaker 6 (36:12):
Because her fifteen minutes is.
Speaker 2 (36:13):
Up banging out the time she has a podcast. Thank you,
She bangs out episodes. No, you can't do that. You
can't use that word in references.
Speaker 6 (36:25):
M not good.
Speaker 2 (36:26):
That's a second Cousin Records episode. There you go, that's
more like it.
Speaker 6 (36:32):
All right, join us this afternoon from two to six,
we'll bang out another edition of the A Team's that's
the same thing. Sounds great, And then on Thursday we'll
crank out another four hour show. It's the same thing.
It's not the same thing. Why we're just talking to
the people.
Speaker 2 (36:46):
We don't make sound effects on this show. We're gonna
whip together a four hour show.
Speaker 6 (36:50):
Why are you done yet? Both of you missing this completely.
There are some people here from the age that did
get in on this, telling him this boomer, hold one more,
one more, see that good job, Tray.
Speaker 2 (37:01):
Not everyone can have a source like Beltron's niece that's right.
Speaker 6 (37:04):
People know there there's I know. The point of this
commentary from our studio is clear. I hope everybody knows.
As I'm decked out in Astros gear today and you are.
It's how where we are Like you create? If you
have one post on your any of your social media
accounts and for some reason one hundred thousand, then five
(37:27):
hundred thousand, that's Attorney Cohen might say more a million people. Well,
now a million people have seen something that you created? Well,
how do I make sure another five hundred thousand see
the next one and at least another two hundred thousand,
one hundred thousand or fifty thousand, and then sustain this
to the point where somebody wants in wants to get
in bed with you? Is that okay? Find a baseball
(37:48):
wanted to get in bed with Jimmy O'Brien. Yes, they
they have.
Speaker 2 (37:51):
Now finds team cheating and wait for the league who
covered it up to buy a portion of your business. Again,
that's exactly what has happened here. Where's the lot fail you?
Speaker 6 (38:00):
You know?
Speaker 2 (38:00):
I'm fine, Look, I don't need People have asked me before,
long before you and I started doing this show. The
longest tenured co host I've ever had, by far three
golf clap emojis. Go there you go, U far Wow. Well,
I just I was averaging about two years per host
co host.
Speaker 6 (38:18):
I mean sure Costanza would appreciate that through me, I
just I.
Speaker 2 (38:26):
I have been asked numerous times throughout my career, don't
you want to go to New York? Don't you want
to go to LA Don't you want to go to
something bigger? And bet No, I've always wanted to sit
here in the city I was raised in and talk
about the teams I root for as the fan I am,
and I make no bones about it or filter it
or anything like that. So when something like what happened
(38:48):
with the Astros happens and I see jackasses like John
Boy not only rising in prominence but now getting paid
by again the league who covered it up.
Speaker 6 (38:58):
They absolutely covered it up, covered what.
Speaker 2 (39:01):
Up the fact that it was far more pronounced than
just one team doing it in some way, shape or form.
Did everybody use a trash can? No, apparently not. Did
everybody have Mike Fires on their roster? Absolutely not?
Speaker 6 (39:13):
But yeah, more people talk about the trash can. Yeah,
fewer people talk about the massage.
Speaker 2 (39:19):
Gun or the apple Watch again by the team that
won the championship the very next year with the manager
who was the bench coach wait for the Astros.
Speaker 6 (39:30):
But he hasn't been involved in anything even remotely close
to sign stealing, at least not in the last three days,
right six days, with what went on between the Red
Socks and the Angels.
Speaker 2 (39:41):
It's just like, it's it's laughable that the Astros and
specifically Altuve, who was again getting lustily booed by dumbasses
in Cleveland this weekend.
Speaker 6 (39:53):
They don't like you. Just we're over that, aren't we.
We are? It doesn't Yeah, he's been over it since before.
Speaker 2 (40:00):
But it doesn't change the fact that all of this
went the way it did because of the way Rob
Manfred in this case didn't handle things the right way,
no question. And now, as an additional late in the
game slap in the face to again the fan base
that by far bore the brunt of the backlash and
all that kind of stuff. He's gonna now monetize this douchebag.
(40:23):
I'm getting all the terms I can in before we're television.
Speaker 6 (40:25):
Now one of the two of us has a pin
tweet that reads, I will always put on for Houston
against any other fan base or lame city, one hundred
percent every single day.
Speaker 2 (40:31):
I made the date on that. That was June eighth,
twenty sixteen, so before any.
Speaker 6 (40:35):
Of this bleep happened. Who almost cussed more on that
the start our number three and see j Strout throwing
the football.
Speaker 3 (40:44):
The A on Sports Talk seven.
Speaker 1 (40:46):
Ninety two lifelong Houston sports guys named at him, talking
your team, Adam Clinton and Adam Weckler d A team.
Speaker 2 (41:06):
It's straight up three o'clock here on Sports Talk seven
to ninety and Space City Home Network. It is the
A team wex ac Cole Thompson with yous we take
you up until six o'clock tonight. Coming off the last
couple of segments, especially that last one where I got
fired up all over again, Sean tweets in and says,
too bad this segment isn't on TV.
Speaker 6 (41:26):
You two are banging it out. I had told him
I had to get around. I just appreciate the listeners
listening to the words we say very closely.
Speaker 2 (41:33):
You know, he wishes he could watch it, and now
he can. I'm sure he wishes he could watch it.
Speaker 6 (41:38):
For the next three hours. Yeah, I told him.
Speaker 2 (41:40):
I said, I had to get a lot out of
my system about John Boy before we started being simulcast
on Jim Crane's tv STA.
Speaker 6 (41:45):
A lot of people wanted to watch it, but she
kept saying, I'm never doing that, I'll do a podcast. Well,
had to get all the terms out of my system, gotcha.
Speaker 2 (41:52):
I can still revisit it before the end of the
next three hours, And before the end of the next
three hours, we will obviously dive into not only the
Astros as they resume their schedule tonight. You know, there
was only fifteen games they've played against teams that were
under five hundred, but that will change shortly over the
next three nights.
Speaker 6 (42:09):
Yeah. Three of those fifteen have already been against the
White Sox. They even won one of them. Why did
you have to do that?
Speaker 2 (42:15):
Why did you have to take facts and just rain
on my parade over here?
Speaker 6 (42:20):
I think playing them will be just fine, just fine
back at home, playing them as the first place Astros
that they are with their different game. The Astros are different,
They're definitely there. They're so different that Christian Walker isn't
even going to bat in the four spot tonight. Uh oh,
well in that vein, what do we got? Uh pay
(42:41):
your partis al tuove, that's three fourths of your infield.
They're abouting one two three. I'll two Bay back at
second base. Both catchers in the lineup. I hate even
saying that, but I think, say Sar Salazar knows what
I mean. Uh, Yands is the designated hit tonight.
Speaker 2 (42:58):
You have been fixated on him being on the roster
and doing nothing besides position pitching.
Speaker 6 (43:03):
He's gotten he I don't know if he's I know
he's been around the celebrations. I don't think he's carried
the bucket of gum out there. He's usually next to
the players they put on camera when they're on SPA
City Home Network. Who's he talking to and talking to
the pitchers? I've seen a lot of him. His forty
seven mile an hour slider was awesome. He has pitched
and he has hit, just not a lot since his
(43:25):
arrival with the team over a month ago. But the
other two catchers are in tonight's lineup, Yanners, the dh
SO Victor Carrottini will catch Lance mcculler's junior and presumably
all the other pitchers that follow him Christian Walker's batting
fifth tonight behind Yanard, he has the outfield and kroten
he goes six, seven, eight, nine, Myers, Kartini, Cam Smith
(43:46):
and another opportunity for Jacob Melton, another right handed pitcher
on the mound for the opposition, Astro is able to
get two left handed bats in the lineup. They've been
outstanding at home, started to and four have since gone
twenty and eight. Presumably that continues over the next six
with the White Sox and the Twins.
Speaker 2 (44:07):
It's like the anti twenty twenty three Astros. They win
at home all the time.
Speaker 6 (44:11):
In other words, it's like normal. Yeah, good teams are
usually really good at home, and they need to be adequate,
basically average, which is almost what the Astros got to
with what they did over the weekend. They went into
that series at ten and fifteen, took two games off
of that under five hundred mark. And if that continues,
(44:32):
just go be win forty two of your eighty one
road games, go forty two and thirty nine.
Speaker 2 (44:36):
Go forty one and forty, which they should against terrible competition,
destroy at home.
Speaker 6 (44:40):
Yeah, go twenty games over at home. Now, all of
a sudden, you're ninety one and seventy one. You're ninety
two and seventy presuming you play all one sixty two
this year, that will definitely win this division. And anything
above ninety two I do think puts them in position
to potentially claim one of the coveted get out of
the wild hard Round top two spots in the American
(45:01):
League playoffs.
Speaker 2 (45:02):
I think they're gonna win the division. But since you
brought it up, I did not intend to go down
this road. But here we are. Does it bother you?
As in just frenetic numbers guy? When you look at
a record from a prior season and you see that
it doesn't add up to one sixty two?
Speaker 6 (45:22):
No, I just try to remember why? But what if
you can't, I usually can't. Well, if it's if it's
this team, the OCD on in my side of the content,
but I'm not OCD about it. I hate that, Like
I know they think OCD about standings and things like
that and numbers. If I and we don't do this
anymore here because it's stupid. When I would make Major
(45:44):
League Baseball or NFL, NFL predictions usually was the one
I would do it on a spreadsheet, So I would
make sure the wins and losses added up to the
proper number, because they're in on the rundown.
Speaker 2 (45:56):
I often look back as I'm scrolling through at our
predictions from last year and think about what an idiot
I am.
Speaker 6 (46:02):
It's why they're fun. You never know what really fun.
Super Bowl with the forty nine ers beating the Texans,
how dumb is that? Look at baseball right now and
to turn the clock back to May twenty sixth, I'll
give you the games overseas before the Astros and most
Major League Baseball teams it played any games, I feel
confident you would have picked the Yankees and the Astros
to win their two divisions respectively. Feel pretty confident you
(46:24):
would have picked the Dodgers to win their division. I'll
ask you, would you have picked the Mets after adding
Soto and bringing Pete Alonzo back to win their division?
I think I did. Okay, So that's four for four.
All four of them are leading their divisions. I think
with Milwaukee losing some players and the Cubs adding a
very specific player, you would have picked the Cubs to win.
(46:47):
I know, I love I don't think adding Ryan Presley
was the tipping point for the Chicago Cubs, but that's
five for five as of today. I can't remember if
I think I probably picked the Royals to win this Central,
so I won't give myself credit for that one. They're
currently in a massive teams right behind the Tigers. They're
currently fourth, but they're within a game and a half
(47:08):
of being second. So all this predicting, like what's out
of line for what we might have predicted to where
we sit today. Maybe we thought the Dodgers would have
a you know, thirty game lead or something ridiculous they
should after playing thirty three teams under five hundred. They
they have, stay in your seat. They have more pitching
(47:28):
injury problems than Houston. Oooo just a factor.
Speaker 2 (47:33):
Yeah, you know one of their pitchers is still not pitching,
Shoho Tani, well not in games, and just saying that's
that's one of the problems you're pointing too.
Speaker 6 (47:46):
They're in a very good division. Three teams are going
to the playoffs from their division. The Astros probably will
produce one more Diamondbacks Mariners baseball coming tonight. They played
last night. That's why the Astros have a three game
lead in the division without playing last night. Because the
Mari lost on a walk off Salam after they scored
four in the ninth to just get it to that point.
(48:06):
Baylor brothers are just killing it lately. Well, one of
the Naylor brothers hurt the Astros, the one who didn't
play against them, helped the Astro exactly. I love that.
Speaker 2 (48:14):
And he's the least likable of the two, is the
one that helped the Astros.
Speaker 6 (48:19):
Yes, I said it. Why does there have to be
a likability attached to you random major league baseball player?
Speaker 2 (48:25):
Well, you would think that I would actually love Bow
Naylor because of the rock the Baby moment he had
against the Yankees in the postseason when he was a
member of the Guardians.
Speaker 6 (48:35):
Right, Josh, I'm sorry I said I said Bo.
Speaker 2 (48:38):
I meant Josh huh, because at that time, I think
Bo wasn't even He might have been on the major
league roster, but he.
Speaker 6 (48:44):
Was very scarcely used. Don't be confused by what you
saw against the Astros. Bo Naylor has had a very
tough time as a major league act. He's a backup
catcher that can't hit, and he looked like he could
against Euston.
Speaker 2 (48:57):
The crazy thing. It's not going to be what Astros
fans or maybe even the organization want to hear. Josh
Naylor replaced Christian Walker in Arizona, and Josh Naylor would
have been to this point a better free agent signing
than Christian Walker for the Astros at first base.
Speaker 6 (49:15):
Yeah, he's having a great season. Yeah, Naylor Grand Slam
last night finally allowed him to catch Christian Walker on
the Homer trail. They both have eight. I guess hitting
two ninety versus two seven is better. I guess having
naight oh three oh ps over six nineteen is better.
I guess having fifteen more RBIs, seven more doubles, twenty
two more hits, seven more runs is better. Now, dude,
(49:38):
this yes, having thirty eight fewer strikeouts is better. I
guess having nine more steals than Walker zero is better.
But I don't know. I haven't had the research team
given them enough time to work on all.
Speaker 2 (49:47):
All of that is true. Now let's get to the
kill shot. And I know you can look this up.
I think I hit all the kill shots. Oh yeah,
the target is wasted.
Speaker 6 (49:55):
No no, no, no, no, I put all the shots right
in that circle area. He's not getting up. You missed
the most obvious one. Push the button to get the
target to come close enough to where I can see it.
I can see it. What are they paying him in Arizona?
H less, that's for I arrest.
Speaker 2 (50:12):
My case is al Pacino would say, However, there's a
lot of season left.
Speaker 6 (50:16):
The Arizona Diamondbacks infield defense can't possibly be as good
as the Astros because of Scoops McGee over at first base.
Speaker 2 (50:25):
Scoops McGee. Yeah, is that what you're calling him? Christian Walker? Hey,
that's better than what a bray you was doing when
he started.
Speaker 6 (50:35):
Missing, better than what everybody's been doing.
Speaker 2 (50:37):
Christian Walker is going to win another Gold Glove this year.
Speaker 6 (50:40):
I believe he's got that going for him. And sixty
million dollars.
Speaker 2 (50:44):
I mean, you're on the field, you're rooting for the guy.
He seems like he's a super likable dude.
Speaker 6 (50:48):
Yeah, you're on the field for half the game, right,
and then you're in the dugout waiting to hit for
half the game. Well, half the game he's really really.
Speaker 2 (50:54):
Good at unless you're Jeremy Pania and you're dhing for
the first time in your life and you hate it.
Speaker 6 (50:59):
He looked like, well, the results indicated it wasn't a
great day at the yard. I don't think they'll ever
do that again. I just give him the day off.
I'm sure they have the actual medical, physical measurement metrics
behind why they love the two days off. Because they
did this going into an off day, he wasn't gonna
play on Monday, there was no game. They were gonna
(51:20):
be sitting in Houston all day Monday, which he was.
There was no game. They chose to kind of cheat
and get him a second day off in a row
by dhing him on Sunday. Didn't want to take his
bat out of the lineup, but kind of wanted to
get him two days off as they played thirteenth straight games.
They wouldn't do it if they don't have the information
that backs it up, to say, for players that are
(51:42):
maxing out on effort and maxing out and how often
they're are used. I mean, before he almost missed a
game earlier this year, before being a late entrant into
the game, he played every single inning. He's the energy
of this team. I don't know if people have noticed
this or not. He's not just hitting leadoff for the Astros.
He's the tone setter. He's the table setter. He's the
(52:05):
energy and juice that this team must have to keep
doing what they're doing. It's great because he's also hitting
three point sixty as a leadoff hitter, He's doing all
this other stuff. It's how he plays that gives this
team all the juice that they need. We'll hear a
little bit more about that at three point thirty when
we hear from Joe a spot of his manager. More
from CJ. Stroud The passing Quarterback, Unlimited Passing Quarterback of
(52:29):
your Houston Texans.
Speaker 1 (52:30):
Next the Aeen on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (52:44):
It is the a team Sports Talk seven ninety. It
is a Tuesday edition of the program. Wex ac col
Thompson with you. By the way, when you're out there
at Texans today, what kind of weather did you get?
Speaker 3 (52:57):
Great?
Speaker 6 (52:58):
It was sunny, sun was out, no clouds, no clouds
that were impacting our visibility or bringing any water.
Speaker 2 (53:04):
We're in that time of the year, right We're in
that time of the year where depending on what part
of the city you're in, you could be melting to
death or you could be in a tsunami.
Speaker 6 (53:14):
All at the same time, we were sweating. It was hot,
but I'm working. I mean, I've gotten enough messages one
from a viewer on Space City Home Network commenting on
my lack of a tan, so I'm working on it.
Who is saying you haven't we talked about this when
whatever that came when it came up came across our timeline.
Speaker 2 (53:32):
I wonder if it's the same guy who fixed I
wonder if it's the same guy who fixates on my
shiny spot. I mean, it's on top of your head
right here. Yeah, yeah, all right. So speaking to the
Texans today, c J. Stroud, after you know, getting getting
over the he doesn't throw enough all that kind of hubbub,
(53:56):
This was CJ. Stroud talking about the fact that, well
there's a new guy in it's a new sheriff in town.
Speaker 6 (54:03):
I think the relationship between CJ.
Speaker 2 (54:05):
Stroud and his offensive line is going to be plotline
storyline number one until further notice, But like one A
is definitely going to be how Nick Kyley and him interact,
how Nick Kayley handles offense overall.
Speaker 6 (54:19):
Yeah, and the stuff they're doing today and moving forward
matters because you're getting plays called in from Kaylee on
Milwaukie into the helmet, you're executing all those plays. You're
now getting a chance to see all this from the
field while you're throwing pass if you're talking about CJ,
rather than from the sideline watching other quarterbacks go through
it when passes are being made, doing it in seven
on seven, doing it in eleven on eleven. So the
(54:39):
real work on field with Kaylee and CJ. Stroud is happening.
The communication has been going on since he came aboard
quite obviously, and when asked about you know what, what's different,
what he likes about him, how things are going. That's
this is what he said about one of the many
new nick cees in Houston this year.
Speaker 8 (54:58):
For me, like I'm buying a people I really don't
buy into like system.
Speaker 7 (55:01):
You know.
Speaker 8 (55:02):
I kind of had that thing about like life to
people in the relationships that kind of take things and
make a rocket ship to the stars. So he has
probably the most juice I've ever seen in my life.
Just naturally, I'm a very laid back, chill guy, except
like when I'm in between the lines. But like he's
six in the morning, he's up, he's at it, So
like that kind of like gets me motivated. He buys
into his players, and you know, he calls me a lot.
(55:23):
I'll always answered because he always he always yelling and stuff.
But you know, I appreciate it though, and it's it's
been great. You know, he's I'm planning a lot of
things he's done in the past, which is important as well.
The system is important, and he's doing a great job.
Speaker 6 (55:36):
Don't you love to hear that? Figure they would have
a good relationship. I think coaches like working with CJ.
And I think in turn because CJ, especially since what
we learned from Nick Kyley when he spoke last week
about how much is going to be on CJ's plate,
and that's a good thing. You want your quarterback and
control the offense. And for offensive coordinators, if they can't
(55:58):
realize that or if they can't give up, so to speak,
some of that power, man, I almost want to blanket
statement that and say they're doing it wrong. You have
and if you don't give up that power, that means
you have the wrong quarterback. That means you're playing with
a deck stacked against you because you don't believe in
the guy. You don't believe that this and sometimes you
shouldn't believe in the guy that everybody has c J.
(56:19):
Stroud on their roster. I mean some team is going
to start either Russell Wilson or Jackson Dart or Jameis
Winston this year. That's the Giants, you know, the Saints.
We talked about this, Yes, some teams. There's no reason
for the OC to say, hey, I want to give
you entire cral and trolley offense. You see something you
don't like at the line, you have absolute autonomy to
check out of it. Well, sure Sanders shouldn't have that yet.
(56:41):
Dylan Gabriel shouldn't have that yet. Tyler Schuff in New
Orleans shouldn't have that either. You have c J. Stroud.
This is what Nick Cayley should want from his quarterback.
He should have enough confidence in his own abilities to
ascend up the coaching ranks to land an OC job,
to be on this team, to want to do everything
he can to win. If they win, no matter how
you got there, you're going to look good. It's going
(57:02):
to be good for you if they went. And I'm
glad that he kind of believes in all those things.
And that's what I got from CJ. And how they
can work together. He buys into the person he buys into,
not even the vision so much, and what he was
kind of saying with he's bringing some of what he's done.
I do think Nick Kyley is the right kind of
OC anywhere, and I think it's because he sees his
(57:25):
roster for what it is, not here's what I like
to do. Now I have to make the players that
we have do it. That's the wrong way it could work.
You might end up with the right players. But the
best way to do it is what do we have
and what elements of the offense I want to run
are going to work best for this group? And then
how do I tailor what I like to do what
I think would work to the group that we have.
(57:47):
And you kind of have to step away from what
you might have liked, what he might have brought with
him from both of his most important stops and Taylor
to what you have. And it sounds certain that that's
exactly what they're doing here, and that's why I think
there should be There's always excitement for a new toy,
whether you know, I don't know how badly people felt
about last year's OC for two years. It's not automatic
(58:11):
that they're going to be better. It's not automatic that
he's a better OC and play caller than Bobby Slowick.
I believe he will be on both counts.
Speaker 2 (58:19):
Speaking of new toys, I mean, you might be curious
what CJ. Stroud had to say about Nick Chubb, and
this is what that sounded like.
Speaker 8 (58:29):
Just you know, he's a great player. You know, I
met him today for the first time, and I toold him. Man,
I've been respecting his game since he was in college,
and you know, I think he's a great back and
I think he do some great things for us, and
I'm excited to have him as a teammate. So obviously
didn't recognize him when I walked in. He's very quiet,
you know, so it was kind of gotten nervous because
he he' been on baller since I've been a kid.
Speaker 6 (58:46):
So but I'm very excited to have him.
Speaker 2 (58:48):
He's got to love to hear that I been a
baller since I've been a kid. I met him today.
Speaker 6 (58:52):
Yeah, he's seventh on the active rushing list. By joining
the Texans, he leaves just two of the top thirty
active rushers. There's only two left running backs that have
only played for one team. He was one of a
group of three. Now he's a Texan, so he's played
(59:14):
for two There's only two running backs on the list
that have only played for one team. Top thirty active
running backs in terms of yard division, yeah, Seonthan Taylor
Jonathan Taylor a fourteen because until last year it would
have been Dereck Henry. And one of them is a
(59:34):
player that's right behind Nick Chubb on the active list
with almost sixty eight hundred rushing yards. He used to
get carries from Derek Carr. Among recent quarterbacks he's played with,
it's Alvin Kamara. He's only played for the New Orleans Saints.
Everybody else on the list has played running backs. They've
all played for at least two teams, including one of
the players that's ahead of Chubb that's a teammate of his,
(59:57):
Joe Mixon. Probably not really first top of mind. He's
third on the active list in rushing yards. He's awesome,
he is, I mean, he was awesome last year. But
the Texans. Two of the top seven are Texans. What
did Joe mix him finish with last year rushing yards?
What do you think it finished with? Just out of
curiosity knowing that he missed some time. What he missed
(01:00:18):
three weeks or a month, I can't remember. Played in
fourteen games, obviously not fully in all of them. He
had a thousand, didn't he? Yeah, ten sixteen barely?
Speaker 2 (01:00:27):
Well.
Speaker 6 (01:00:28):
He played in all seventeen games the year before for
the Bengals and had twelve more carries and only had
eighteen more yards.
Speaker 2 (01:00:34):
You know what's funny about that is that today's NFL,
and really, I mean, let's go back twenty years at
this point, basically at the start of the millennium, when
the Patriots and company were really starting to chuck the
ball and everybody started to chuck the ball. I can't
(01:00:55):
believe that back in the day, what a big deal
it was for guys to get a thousand yards. Now
the schedule was shorter.
Speaker 6 (01:01:04):
Yeah, it's very it's a nice number to talk about.
I won't be doing it this year or any of this.
Speaker 2 (01:01:09):
Seconds in this NFL, this past heavy twenty five plus
years of being that way NFL. It's it's honestly, probably
more of an accomplishment. And yet I felt like it
was talked about way back when when running backs were
there were way more bell cows, there were way less quarterbacks.
(01:01:31):
That were passing for the type of juggernaut yards you
get on average today.
Speaker 6 (01:01:35):
Like one time we looked at Troy Aikman's numbers and
it was like pedestrian because he wasn't very good. Well,
but they didn't even throw that much. They just won
a bunch of games.
Speaker 2 (01:01:44):
Yeah, well, I mean when you get a line like that,
that's the line I went from the weapons like that.
Speaker 6 (01:01:49):
My gosh, Like I'm not saying he's a terrible NFL quarterback,
but he's I mean easy. Emmitt Smith was just like here,
you're gonna get thirty carries. Yeah. Better way to look
at Joe Mixon's work last year is the other statistics.
They give you a better idea of what he did.
You know, four point one yards of carry is not great,
but it was the second best number of his career,
(01:02:11):
eight point six yards per reception, second best of his career,
yards per game because again he missed time, third best
of his career. So the fall off that he's getting
to twenty eight, twenty nine, thirty years old. They redid
his deal to get him to play through each of
those seasons. He will turn twenty nine this month or
(01:02:32):
next month. I didn't see any drop off.
Speaker 2 (01:02:35):
The drop off was just in his ability to get
past the hip drop tackle.
Speaker 6 (01:02:40):
Yeah, that was it. I mean was that was the
only thing.
Speaker 2 (01:02:43):
And presumably he keeps himself in good shape all the
time like he did going into last year. There's no
reason to think he can't put a big, big or
big er numbers again this year with the health.
Speaker 6 (01:02:54):
Yeah, every practice we have seen so far this offseason
has included five running backs. Even though they added a
running back to the roster in Nick Chubb, they still
only had five running backs on the field running through drills.
I'll give you an update on who they were some
other who was there and who wasn't there as we
continue this hour. Next segment though, the manager of the
Houston Astros what's keeping this team on top of the
(01:03:18):
division yet Again? We'll hear from Joe Spota.
Speaker 3 (01:03:19):
Next the age on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 6 (01:03:31):
But after three point thirty it is Tuesday. This is
the A team. Wexa C and Cole here with you.
Free to join us as always on the socials or
via the phone line seven one three two one two
five seven ninety. We are talking a little bit about
mini camp day one of two. Little bit about Astros
White Sox first place Astros against last place White Sox
(01:03:52):
and to that end, the manager, Joe spot I, made
his weekly visit to the Matt Thomas Show with Ross
earlier this afternoon. Joe's got the team's seven games above
five hundred. They have a three game lead in the
American League West. They've had one of the best back
ends of the bullpen anywhere in baseball. They just came
off of road trip, their first winning road trip of
(01:04:12):
the season, taking two of three in both stops. Starters
produced in the area of two to twenty team produced
in the area of two to twenty one, playing good defense.
This is all good conversation we're going to share with
you for the portion of that interview right here with Joe,
Aspata focuses on one other area of the team as
(01:04:32):
he puts together each day's worth of the nine that
will be out there. They're very good defensively. How much
does that weigh into the decision making?
Speaker 4 (01:04:41):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (01:04:42):
Huge, something that we've done here really good for the
eight years that I've been here. You know, we pitch
and we play defense. I think that's kind of like Cornerstorm,
the foundation of our organization. We have been blessed with
some elite eight hitters and some really good offenses. But
I think what I allow us to be successful and
put ourselves in in championship UH position has been our
(01:05:07):
defense and and our pitching. So when I put lineups
together or when i'm UH walking through my strategy, want
to make sure that I keep defensive options on my bench,
and also when I'm playing certain, when I'm certain pitchers
are on the mound trying to have the best defense
behind them to try to prevent as many runs as
(01:05:29):
you can, or trying to gain as many outs as
we can.
Speaker 11 (01:05:32):
Lance for Colors Junior on the hill for you today
against the White Sox, back to back quality starts, How
are things been going with him day to day and
and your confidence level ending him today?
Speaker 3 (01:05:43):
Good?
Speaker 7 (01:05:43):
Yeah, he's been, he's been, he's been in He's in
a really good spot in between starts.
Speaker 6 (01:05:48):
I think his work has.
Speaker 3 (01:05:49):
Been really good.
Speaker 6 (01:05:50):
Giving him some extra and extra.
Speaker 7 (01:05:52):
Day has really helped him bounce back and recover. You know,
I think doing the thirteen game stretch, we are going
to be tested one more time our resiliency when he
comes to our pitching, and I think we are We're
in a really good spot here, trying to be smarter
at how we we line these guys up, trying to
get these guys an extra day here and there, and
(01:06:15):
and hopefully it puts it in a position to have
a nice stretch. You're thirteen in a row.
Speaker 12 (01:06:20):
I know that manage League Baseball dictates you know how
big your roster is when it comes to pitchers and
position players. Would you like a little more flexibility with that,
because let's say that you were a manager, Joe, that
even with the off days, you wanted to go with
a six man rotation, or you enough guys to do so.
Would you like to be able to have an extra
arm because you are making that sacrifice and going with
a six starter.
Speaker 7 (01:06:41):
You know what, I think I'm open to having a
conversation about having, you know, carrying an extra an extra pitcher.
I think in today's game, how you know, we use
our pitching and how this long stretch of gains and also,
you know, looking at the injury he's on the pitching front.
Carrying an extra arm, I.
Speaker 6 (01:07:03):
Think it would help.
Speaker 7 (01:07:05):
I think I'd be open to a conversation on that
extent of things, and how can we really help our
our staff protect him and have a little bit more
of an extra arm that can we could a lot,
we could deploy them and and protect some of the
guys we have since we're asking a lot of these
(01:07:26):
guys in today's game.
Speaker 6 (01:07:27):
It was late April.
Speaker 12 (01:07:28):
I think you made the decision to go with Jeremy
in the ladoff spot, and your PR staff does a
good job of giving us notes about how he has
been since in that top spot. Looking back at it,
do you go, my goodness, why didn't we think about
this earlier? Or A lot of it is that, you
know what, he handled the responsibility. You gave it to him,
and he's made the most of it.
Speaker 7 (01:07:45):
Yeah, And I think I think that's the way I
looked at it. I think he has really embraced the
role and he's done a really good job. I think
Hosey also in the three spotis heving. He's hitting over
three hundred, so I think the move has paid off
having proad it there in the middle getting on base also, uh,
you know, driving the ball the ballpark. I think he's
going to it has been a really good move. And
(01:08:07):
you know, we you know, we found ourselves in first
place playing really good baseball, and our offense still hasn't
really you know, taken any I hadn't carried that momentum
that I've seen in the past. And once he gets hot,
I think it's going to be, you know, one that
we are going to.
Speaker 3 (01:08:24):
Ride on for for a while.
Speaker 7 (01:08:26):
But Jeremy Panna has done a fabulous shot. The way
he's seeing the ball, the energy that he brings, the
speed on the basis, the hustle, just he's been phenomenal.
Speaker 12 (01:08:37):
And your bullpen has been phenomenal. Your defense has been
top shelf for as many many years. When you're on
the plane coming home, we're closing your eyes going to
better night going. Man, we have put together a team
that hasn't been at its best offensively, but I've got
two parts of my game that have been so solid
that it's kept us where we are right.
Speaker 7 (01:08:54):
Now, correct and you know, and that's very important for
us to protect those our areas strenth while we work
on the areas that need to you know that we
need to get going like our offense, and our offense
has shown you know, strikes where you know, for example,
you know, we have nineteen come from behind wins. The
only way you do that is you pitch, you play,
(01:09:14):
defense keeps you in the game. And then here comes
to tow out runs, you know, out to out runs
and our resilience offense that we never out of a bagain.
Speaker 6 (01:09:22):
Right, So there is those.
Speaker 7 (01:09:24):
Qualities, there is those elements of our of our offense
that are there. It's just finding consistency every day where
we can not have to lean on heavily on our
bullpen just to always trying to keep us in the game.
Speaker 6 (01:09:38):
A couple of things on the bullpen, since that's how
they ended the conversation with, so to speak, the Astros
bullpen as a whole. Some of the numbers you may
not know. They are six in strikeouts just by their bullpen,
just their group of relievers, sixth in the majors and
strikeouts while being twenty fourth and innings pitched they have
(01:10:01):
as much as their starting pitching rotation has been. I
don't know who we have today. If it's not a
Fromber day and it's not a Hunter Brown day, then
we got to figure things out. We got to hope
for some length. We had to hope this works out.
We hope that we don't have to go to the
bullpen early, but they haven't had to over use their
bullpen at all this year and they've gotten tremendous results.
(01:10:22):
Partially because of that. We've seen it the last several years,
the fewer people, and not only have they not had
to go to it very often, they have more people
they can count on. They might have their deepest bullpen
during this run are certainly a comparable one to some
of their deeper runs where you could go to Maiton
or Stanic knowing neither one of them was a closer
and the guys behind them could still get it done,
where Bray, New and Hater are clearly the back end guys,
(01:10:44):
the confidence that Joe Spotta has and both the lefties
at the back end and Steven Okert and Brian King,
many others like Bennett Sussa who've been really really good.
But they're first in the majors in strikeouts per nine
innings among their relieving group, and they're in the top
five and both bat average against and whip. They don't
put a lot of extra runners on base and Bray
(01:11:05):
who needs to continue to push away from the walks
and nobody else is having walk problems in their bullpen,
and if he gets that licked. I can't even imagine
how strong they're going to be. These are the things
to me. They're more controllable and finding all the right pieces,
and Dana Brown and Joe Spotta have continued to make changes.
Whoever's been at the back end of the bullpen from
day one. Remember Rafael Montero made this team out of
(01:11:27):
spring training, and Forrest Whitley obviously was here. And at
different times it's been different pitchers that they've just said, well,
everybody else is doing their job and you're not, so
we're gonna have to let you go. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:11:39):
And the best part about all of this is that
they are not at one hundred percent and one of
their biggest pieces is not back in the lineup, and
they have played the fewest games against below five hundred teams.
I feel like it's a recipe for more success and
maybe an extended lead on that division.
Speaker 6 (01:11:57):
We'll find out starting tonight. Yeah, certainly could be. We
will dig back in on your Houston Texans. More from CJ.
Stroud and the comments on getting him back on the
field and throwing from his chuckling head coach Tamiko Rans
that's next.
Speaker 1 (01:12:12):
The A team on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (01:12:24):
It is the A team.
Speaker 2 (01:12:24):
It's Sports Talks seven to ninety, Tuesday edition of the program,
winding down the three o'clock hour, which means we are
that much closer to the Astros resuming their baseball schedule.
It's the White Sox in town tonight. Lance mccullors Junior
on the bump over at Dike and Park. In the meantime.
Over at the practice facility outside NRG Stadium today, CJ.
(01:12:46):
Stroud throwing the football and what a side it was
to see Wex was out there. Did he look comfortable?
Did he look like he was gonna be great this season?
The MVP just the greatest quarterback everard he looked like that.
Speaker 6 (01:12:58):
This was a day where we were waiting outside the
fence as they came across the bridge to the bubble
where they do their activation. Some days we're already inside
so we can see literally everybody coming across. Couldn't see
all that today. So the first time we saw CJ.
Stroud was when he was one of the first probably
eight or nine players to come out of the bubble
(01:13:19):
and onto the practice field. We're watching practice in between
practice fields one and two. Their entrance to the field
is onto field two. Davis Mills was first, so I
knew the quarterbacks would be right behind him. Then they were,
And when he came out there, he looked he had
his red jersey on already, which he hasn't had on
every time he's come across. For the previous workouts, he
(01:13:41):
was in shorts. He looked like he was jogging into
their early stretching drills outside in a manner that I thought,
it looks like a full participant today, But who knows.
It's his shoulders now. We brought up yesterday the media
day stuff that they put out, saw a little from
(01:14:01):
Kamari Lasser, a little from Daniel Hunter and Will Anderson Junior,
and saw something from CJ. Strode. He got his arms
up over his head when he flexed, and he had
the football in his hand. They were telling us some
of his situation, like we're not concerned, We're just is
all precautionary. So we were wondering, is it canny throw?
Should he throw? Will they wait so he doesn't have
(01:14:23):
to throw until late July. But he went out there
and the usual time where you make your first throws
or after you've gone through your first handful of handoffs.
They do have three quarterbacks running drills. Graham Mertz is
still not doing so CJ's QB one, Mills's QB two,
Keaton Slovis is QB three. I mentioned a couple segments
ago they only have five running backs out there, and
(01:14:44):
that's been the norm this whole off season. Well, he
added one, So how did that number not change? Well,
what he marks was not practicing today, Nick Chubb was.
The other four running backs have all been RB three
or beyond because no Joe Mixon and no Damian Pierce
had any of the media viewed practices, although there doesn't
appear to be any concern from reporting from Aaron Wilson
(01:15:04):
on either of those two. So don't add mixin not
practicing plus Nick Chubbs signed equals uh oh mix and yikes,
don't don't do that. Mask that.
Speaker 2 (01:15:17):
I don't believe that is the correct Can you use
your jump to conclusions mask? Yes?
Speaker 6 (01:15:20):
Please don't be a tom s in this situation. So
you do your handfull of handoffs, go through the line,
go through the quarterbacks, and then RB one, which is
Daria Goombalwally. He lines up out wider he's gonna run
in the flat. The quarterback's gonna take his shotgun snap
(01:15:40):
and throw him the football. And CJ got under quote
unquote center for that a staffer who throws the football
to him. So at that moment, before he'd made his
first actual throw, it was obvious he was going to
be throwing that day. Made that throw. Every throw through
individual drills, all fifteen of them, I counted them. And
(01:16:01):
then he went through seven on sevens and drills with
eleven on eleven and he made fifteen more throws. He
was eight for fifteen today.
Speaker 2 (01:16:10):
Man July thirtieth or whenever they reports training campus so
far away.
Speaker 6 (01:16:14):
So he threw it practice. The coach speaks first when
that question came to Demico Ryans about hey, CJ, how'd
you think he looked? You guys, this, that and the other. Yeah,
just anything you want, anything at all, Just talk to me,
not even a question. Just tell me about CJ. Strat,
would you please? Tomiko? Oh? CJ through today?
Speaker 2 (01:16:36):
Right?
Speaker 6 (01:16:37):
All right?
Speaker 13 (01:16:38):
Yeah, CJ's a competitor and last week CJ he was
adamant about going out and practicing and just show the
type of person that CJ is, like he's but for me,
because it's important for me to just make sure we're
protecting him, making sure we're doing what's best for CJ,
and not really a word about the outside opinions or
other people. And nobody knows the information about our players
(01:17:01):
more than me, and so I'm gonna make sure I
always do what's in the best entest of our players
first and foremost with their health and wellness. That's always
on the forefront of my mind. And so that's why
the decision was made about CJ. I think you guys
saw him out throwing a day, think he looked pretty
fine to me.
Speaker 6 (01:17:19):
I think he looked pretty fine to me. I that
stood out when I was standing there. Cole and I
are among those that were staying. That stood out as
a good sign off to his quote, he looked pretty
fine to me.
Speaker 2 (01:17:29):
I know, I'm asking this on the fly, and it
might not be possible, it might not even be there.
I wish there was a way to compare that to
last week's quotes from Demiko or in what way noncommittal
about why CJ wasn't out there, Like again, it's not
(01:17:50):
it's not that he was trying to hide anything.
Speaker 6 (01:17:53):
His initial comments on CJ Stroud sounded this light like this, Well,
they should sound like this, but they don't.
Speaker 13 (01:17:59):
First, I don't know everybody's gonna ask first. CJ not
throwing again, There's no concerns with CJ. It's just general soreness.
We're taking initial precaution with him.
Speaker 6 (01:18:08):
But he'll be good to go. No concerns on my
end there. So in other words, as I mentioned walking
out with Wex on social media, it's like he said
this is didn't give us all the details, but he
told us they were unconcerned, and he threw today and
now he looks pretty fine, expressing some lack of concern.
(01:18:29):
I'm fine with it's it's fine, as Matt Thomas was,
I did. I said this to some people out there
and we've said it on the air. It's their choice
to do it this way. It's very easy to do
it another way, and they're not forced to do it
the way I'm going to suggest, and they're not forced
to do it the way that they do it. But
any anything, CJ Stroud, we're not concerned at all about
(01:18:49):
the season. We're being precautionary with this. We haven't even
made the decision on whether or not he's going to
throw at our mandatory mini camp in a week and
we haven't made that decision. Because it's such a minor city.
It's not something that's gonna We don't expect it to
drag into the season. If we were having this mini
camp in three weeks, we wouldn't be talking about this
because he'd be throwing what took place during the off
season because of how he went about working out. You know,
(01:19:12):
as he'll tell you when he comes up here, there's
a little bit of risk reward with how you want
to go about trying to get stronger, trying to work
on things that you think will make you a better quarterback.
And there was some impact with his shoulder and with
the throws that you know he could make. If this
were if we were in Week three trying to dismantle
the Jacksonville Jaguars, he'd be out there and we'd win
fifty one to nothing. Now he chose a different path
(01:19:33):
of describing a situation.
Speaker 2 (01:19:34):
Do you think some media and fans are just this
way because of the Astros? And the reason I bring
that up is because I don't. I've done this for
almost twenty years now. Well I've done it for twenty
years now, and I can't remember a time where a
team's lack of transparency or perceived lack of transparency was
(01:19:55):
talked about so much. Given And I don't think it's
about the Textans so much as it's been a the Astros,
but this whole thing because it's c J. Stroud, because
he's obviously the most important part of the on field product.
I just wonder if that's why we're a little bit,
if you want to call it sensitive or whatever.
Speaker 6 (01:20:12):
Probably may maybe we're sensitive to it, sure, but I
think it's very football so different. I think they're silly
with how they do it anyway, and we talk about
that all the time. You know, taking the reps and
you know which quarterback was sideline, and we don't want
the other team to know who's getting the rep. Why.
I mean, you're really gonna surprise him because your backup
quarterback is getting the reps this week. I mean, think
(01:20:32):
about what the Texans did a handful of years ago.
Davis Mills. Davis Mills, Davis Mills, what is case Keenum
doing out there starting he wasn't getting any of the reps?
Why'd you do all that? Just play the guy you want,
give the guy the reps to the guy that's gonna play,
and oh my god, what if he gets out to
the opponent. How will you then still be able to
beat the Titans? Well, because you're better than them. Yeah,
that's that's a pretty simple way of putting it. We
(01:20:53):
will get to a very simple four o'clock hour coming
up next.
Speaker 3 (01:20:59):
The ad on Sports Talk seven.
Speaker 1 (01:21:01):
Ninety two lifelong Houston sports guys named at him talking
your Team's very.
Speaker 4 (01:21:12):
Adam Clinton and Adam Wefler, the A Team eighty.
Speaker 2 (01:21:22):
It is the A Team Sports Talk seven ninety four
o'clock hour underway. Hopefully, I mean, I know it's only Tuesday,
but hopefully you've kicked off of work already.
Speaker 6 (01:21:32):
Four o'clock on a Tuesday, very productive day? Well, I mean,
wouldn't you rather than we're not even done with our
work day and we've only put in a couple hours.
We got two more to go.
Speaker 2 (01:21:42):
We go until six every day unless we're preempted by
Astros baseball, which happened a lot last week.
Speaker 6 (01:21:47):
Not this week though, Yeah, four o'clock on a Tuesday?
Are they working from home? Did they get in before ericson?
Speaker 2 (01:21:54):
Well, obviously I mean less before area being done at
four o'clock on a Tuesday.
Speaker 6 (01:21:59):
It's a nice little schedule.
Speaker 2 (01:22:01):
Well when you get when you get to work at
the obscene and that's the word to use hour that
Ericson does.
Speaker 6 (01:22:07):
Every once in a while when I get one of
his I just sat down at my desk emails, I
like to respond because then he knows I'm actually awake
at five twenty six am.
Speaker 2 (01:22:15):
They'll never get a response like that from me, not
when you write, not right when he sends it. But yeah,
I ever told you my theory about how Tuesday is
the worst day of the week.
Speaker 6 (01:22:25):
So people are actually getting a case of the Tuesdays.
Yes see, well I think this might apply just because
of what we do. Is there some excitement for getting back?
Like for us, I think Mondays are good. We just
got back. All this stuff happened this week, and let's
fire it up. Man, we have four hours. Call us up,
hit us up on the Twitter machine. I think a.
Speaker 2 (01:22:43):
Lot of sports fans are at least like because they
even if they're not talking about it with an audience,
they're talking about it with each other.
Speaker 6 (01:22:50):
Something has happened. It just is.
Speaker 2 (01:22:52):
That's just way my Now Wednesday is hump Dy hump
Day edition of the show.
Speaker 6 (01:23:00):
Been Ony been on the radio for several decades. I'm
pretty sure I've never said that. A lot of people
on the radio use that. Yes they do. I get it.
I understand why.
Speaker 2 (01:23:10):
Thursday is basically Friday Junior Thursday's If you're it's the weekend.
Speaker 6 (01:23:14):
Have you the week what are you waiting for? The
weekend is here Thursday, Your weekend begins. Nobody, we're adults, like,
maybe it's different for us, but I was trying to,
you know, portray to the youngers and of which we
used to be and Cole currently is. Of course, the
weekend starts on Thursday. You remember when you left home
and went to college. I don't. I mean some of
(01:23:34):
you are smart enough to not even have classes on Friday. Yeah,
that's a rookie mistake.
Speaker 2 (01:23:38):
If you're scheduling Monday, Wednesday, Friday classes in that there
are Monday and Friday classes. I mean you can it's
not a loaded up on Tuesday.
Speaker 6 (01:23:46):
Thursday and just take it last of the weekend off.
It makes for a nice, nice weekend. Okay, Thursday the day,
so you've made Monday good day. Friday, Friday, Friday, Saturday,
and Sunday the weekends. So now we're stuck with tuesdayday
is so well Tuesday. Before ESPN got a hold of
some of the smaller conferences, there's no football on Tuesday.
(01:24:07):
It marked the end of the week's games. Now we
get to have another game on Thursday in the NFL. Now,
but there used to be a time where Thursday night
football didn't even exist, and so Monday would end and
then Tuesday and Wednesday and third.
Speaker 2 (01:24:21):
Wednesday by default, if for no other reason, it's better
than Tuesday because it's closer to the weekend. So Tuesday
is just there being a giant nothing burger day of
the week.
Speaker 6 (01:24:31):
I hate Tuesdays. I don't know there's much to bed.
I don't know that it's instapol worthy, but I think
many would agree Tuesday is the worst day of the week.
Are we bit stealing?
Speaker 2 (01:24:38):
No, we can save it for tomorrow. Do you think
he even knows where that bed is or what it is?
Speaker 6 (01:24:43):
Uh, he doesn't need to because we're not doing it well.
You're trying, You're doing your best to make sure of it.
Who's he you?
Speaker 2 (01:24:50):
You don't you know what an instapol is Have you
ever listened to the Matt Thomas Show.
Speaker 6 (01:24:54):
Yes, of course I know what an instapol is, but
I don't even know what the pole would be. What's
worse Toesday or Wednesday? Wait, it is Tuesday the worst
day of the week. It's totally the worst day or night,
and we can mix both of them in there. That's true.
Speaker 2 (01:25:07):
I don't think it's the worst day of the week. Well,
what is Thursday? How is Thursday worst tees?
Speaker 9 (01:25:12):
It's a teas because of some people like to go
out and have fun on a Thursday night, but then
at the wake up at six am and actually do
things the next day.
Speaker 6 (01:25:21):
But when nobody does that on Tuesday. That's the point
I'm making.
Speaker 9 (01:25:25):
Yeah, but I also know on a Tuesday, I'm not
going to go out or want to go.
Speaker 6 (01:25:28):
Out for the weekend.
Speaker 2 (01:25:29):
Well, Thursday is Friday Junior, and that's why it's better
than Tuesday. I agree with Wex. I think the debate
is between Tuesday and Wednesday for worst day of the week.
Speaker 9 (01:25:39):
I can understand Wednesday, and the reason why is because
of at least actions on Tuesday nights.
Speaker 6 (01:25:43):
That's what I was alluding to. There's there's football now
every night of the week, quite honestly. So it's not football,
Oh my god, yes it is. Oh it's not mastic.
It's fantastic funk. Yes, it's for degenerate gamblers. Goo and
Cole Thompson.
Speaker 2 (01:25:58):
That's the same thing. Sure, right, Do you have a problem?
Do you need a one eight hundred number?
Speaker 7 (01:26:04):
You?
Speaker 6 (01:26:04):
Actually I said bingo and I should not have said.
You did not get a bingo?
Speaker 2 (01:26:08):
I did too. You can't retract my beings. You can't
triple stamp on double stamp you.
Speaker 6 (01:26:12):
You used a word, an identify or an adjective that's
not necessary. What degenerate?
Speaker 2 (01:26:17):
It's yes, if you're gambling on a Tuesday night football game,
be you're a degenerate.
Speaker 6 (01:26:23):
You're not. I disagree. Explain yourself. I think there's a
pretty good chance that you're wagering on that game because
you believe you have the intel intel that you need
to win the bet to move good on your wager.
That's fair, Or you're not looking all over the board.
Is this the game I want to go? Is that
the game I want to go? Or you've got one game,
(01:26:44):
so put a little time and research into it. You know,
what was this look like, what's this last matchup look like?
What's the latest trend on this? What have they been doing?
Should I be playing this or should I be playing that?
And end of it. I think it's I just don't
agree with the word degenerate being used in that situation.
Speaker 2 (01:26:58):
Well everything you everything you said was fair but obviously
supporting my side of things. Or you are trying to
recoup what you got your clock cleaned all weekend on
on all the other games. That's what you're doing on
Tuesday night gambling on a Mac game. Degenerate gambler you, I'll.
Speaker 6 (01:27:16):
Be completely real.
Speaker 9 (01:27:17):
I have gambled one time on a game that I
did not think that I was going to win, and
it was the one time that I lost. It was
kennessas State versus Liberty last year. Listen to the name
of those teams. What is it wrong with the name
of those teams? They're real teams in college football.
Speaker 6 (01:27:31):
Their teams I wouldn't call them real. You playing the
festaval two years You just talked about the one hundred
and thirty six teams awaiting their royalties for the upcoming game. Game.
Speaker 2 (01:27:42):
Yeah, and those two he just mentioned aren't even in
the fourth tier.
Speaker 6 (01:27:45):
Not true.
Speaker 9 (01:27:46):
They're the ones I start a franchise with the Dynasty
with as the show that got all this conversation started.
Speaker 6 (01:27:52):
Would say, it's fine, it is fine. It's not great, though,
it's a it's a bonus for this generation of degenerate gamblers. Match.
The NFL is not far behind.
Speaker 2 (01:28:03):
Hey, where's Mats Friday football for the second year in
a row. Where's Matt Thomas going Tomorrow football Sunday?
Speaker 6 (01:28:09):
Where's it going? Tomorrow's going? I didn't really listen to
much of his conversation when this was brought up, but
I'm gonna guess he's going to the City that Never sleeps. No,
that's New York. Oh, the sin city. There you go.
I still think that's silly. What like, why name in
Vegas when you don't even know what time it is
and you definitely don't sleep there because you're still at
(01:28:29):
the table at four am and you don't even know it. Yeah,
that's the city that never sleeps.
Speaker 2 (01:28:34):
I get that, but it's because New York's bigger. Plus
they're bigger. You sin way more when you go to Vegas.
You don't go to New York and say, what happens
in New York, stays in New York.
Speaker 6 (01:28:43):
You don't have to take sin City away from Vegas.
Speaker 9 (01:28:45):
You know why it's called yes, why because it was
founded by the mob.
Speaker 6 (01:28:50):
Well, they are Sinners. I've seen a few movies about
them in Vegas. That's pretty there's some pretty good ones.
There's one called Casino. Yeah, I wonder if de Niro
is in that. What about PESHI was still the worst
special effects of all time?
Speaker 2 (01:29:03):
Yeah, him getting blown up in the car.
Speaker 6 (01:29:05):
At could you not put a dummy in the car
and make it so obvious? We can move on past
this topic after you answer this question. All right, Sharon
Stone was amazing. Rank it her in her movie profile
and her movie listing. Where does it rank? Well, what
are we ranking any of her movies? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:29:24):
But what are we ranking her actual talent or how
she looked and what she did recrossing her legs?
Speaker 6 (01:29:32):
I already know basic instinct is first. I'm not asking
about that.
Speaker 2 (01:29:35):
Okay, So then she I mean, she got an Academy
Award for her role in Casino? Did she not Best
Supporting Actress? Did she get the award or just the
actual one? I'm pretty sure she won without looking so.
Speaker 6 (01:29:45):
In other words, when you were talking about degenerate gamblers,
your I was talking about all the research they were
doing and all the information they might look at. All
this research you're doing to try to rank Sharon Stone movies.
Did she went an oscar for this? Was she nominated
for that? Just give me an answer, or it's not
degenerate gambling after all, it's just gambling.
Speaker 2 (01:30:05):
More depressing female lead role based in Vegas Sharon Stone
and Casino or one of my personal favorites, Elizabeth Shoe
with an S in Leaving Las Vegas.
Speaker 6 (01:30:16):
Definitely the Shoe much more. I mean, gosh, that just
brings you down. So did you say basic instinct one?
Casino two total recall three? Is that what you said?
Speaker 2 (01:30:29):
Come on, man, that's not even a role, that's just
a special effect.
Speaker 6 (01:30:35):
Sliver was four? Is that right?
Speaker 2 (01:30:37):
Anything that stars a Baldwin brother, either Alec or the
other lesser Baldwins, none of which can act, none of.
Speaker 6 (01:30:45):
Which Aleck Billy His name is Aliam.
Speaker 2 (01:30:50):
Yeah, So what did you mess up on the birth
certificate and put a C instead of an X? Uh?
Speaker 6 (01:30:56):
You know what, We're gonna name our kid Alec, don't
you mean Alex.
Speaker 3 (01:30:59):
No a.
Speaker 6 (01:31:00):
Did you just say William and then Billy right after?
What's the blonde one's first name, Steven. That's why I
said William because I was confused.
Speaker 2 (01:31:08):
They all suck at acting, and some of them suck
at handling firearms.
Speaker 6 (01:31:12):
They're all the same. He killed a chick on a
movie set. That's yes, he did what you're doing her
quite the disservice in the manner in which that was delivered.
How he killed one of the people who was working
on the movie. It was a woman.
Speaker 2 (01:31:29):
He killed her on the set. What did I say
that was wrong?
Speaker 6 (01:31:32):
I don't know. Chick seems a little light for someone
who was Did I say chick to death? Did I
say chick? Yes? I'm sorry.
Speaker 2 (01:31:39):
He killed a go on a movie set.
Speaker 6 (01:31:43):
You are missing the last Baldwin brother. There's another one.
Is he larger than the other three? No? Wait no,
not larger in context, I mean literally physically, William. That's
the one I forget. You just tell us who it
is so we can move on. It's Daniel, Daniel Baldo.
There's a Daniel. You're making that out.
Speaker 2 (01:32:03):
This is like who is the guest star at the
end of the Brady Bunch, that stupid kid with the
glasses over.
Speaker 6 (01:32:08):
Yeah, that's that's what you're doing here. Only he existed.
Speaker 2 (01:32:11):
No, Daniels, Daniel, Daniel is real. Is there a sister
I'd forgotten? No, there's only four brothers. So this, this
poor couple had four Baldwin brothers and didn't even have
a girl to show for it.
Speaker 6 (01:32:23):
To soften the blow, Worst day of the Week, two
sisters see Worst Day of the Week, gambling casino, Sharon Stone,
Daniel bald And there are those slings during this segment.
That's what happened. This is what I do, man, This
is my specialty. And don't think I won't get after
John Boy before the end of the show either. Again,
(01:32:44):
I've got plenty of room and ammunition for that. Goodness.
Stay tuned.
Speaker 1 (01:32:49):
The A on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 6 (01:33:01):
All right, we'll get back to sport. Guess what superstar,
elite top ten player of all time in the NBA
is constantly and continuously and again today active on social media.
Kevin Durant. That's correct. What's he saying? So? Kevin Durant
(01:33:21):
has had some conversations about his season, his seasons and
what's going on in the past and on into the future,
and usually and recently he's asked people, hey, man, here's
what I think. What do you think? If you want
to discuss this, Let's go ahead and do it. Let's
get it all out there.
Speaker 2 (01:33:37):
The most accessible NBA player out there via social media.
Speaker 6 (01:33:41):
He's definitely one of them. Someone with the handle Hannah
Hoops fifty thousand followers, so fairly well respected, of the
same community as John boy Nick's Giants, Yankees, et cetera.
That's awful. Posts the following I think it's time to
admit Durant's trajectory after leaving Golden State is very underwhelming.
(01:34:06):
Has she watched him play individually? I highly disagree. Kamma
want a debate? Double question marks that came from at
KD Trey five. Yeah, because he's right though Omer Omer says, brother, brother, Brother,
you sadly have not been out of the second round
ever since you left Golden State. Perhaps the change of
(01:34:26):
scenery might change that.
Speaker 2 (01:34:29):
Okay, I said, time out. That is so disingenuous and
honestly lazy.
Speaker 6 (01:34:33):
And that's what Kevin then comes back with, It's a
team sport. I'm not playing tennis. Good, good job, Kevin
So his actual response to the original commentary, I highly disagree,
want a debate, and she responds with no disrespect. You're
one of the best and most skilled players in NBA history,
but ever since leaving Golden State you haven't done much
(01:34:54):
and you're going to be on your third team since
then if you get traded. I think if you stayed
in Golden State, you would have won more championships. Lastly,
I don't think anyone doubts that if Kevin Durant continued
to play up until this past season with the Golden
State Warriors, it's pretty likely they would have at least
played for another championship, made it to the finals at
least once, and I would agree that there's probably another
(01:35:15):
title there also pretty prominent.
Speaker 2 (01:35:18):
It's probably a very good chance that he or Draymond
punched each other at practice in another incident.
Speaker 6 (01:35:25):
That's the thing. He didn't leave because he didn't think
they could win. No, he left because Draymond said leave
b He left because he didn't want to play with
these guys, play with this team.
Speaker 2 (01:35:36):
Who you got to go to work every day and
look at those idiots faces Steph Curry most punishable face
in sports. Nice Raymond another punishable face and Clay.
Speaker 6 (01:35:50):
He's the one with the punchable face.
Speaker 2 (01:35:52):
Side got Draymond he got banished to NBA Siberia for
an enormous amount of money, which he's glad an enormous
light by his coaching stat rainess in the NBA. So
his response to that comment, part of which is I
think clearly true. I think there's more championships to be
one had that team not gone their separate ways. Him mainly,
(01:36:12):
he said, I haven't done much. It's just an opinion
not based in facts. Once again, your statement is take
talking about me as an individual, right, because you can't
talk about my teams while talking about everybody else as well,
So without them being involved in the convo, it comes
down to just me.
Speaker 6 (01:36:27):
I've laid out what I've done.
Speaker 2 (01:36:28):
If you want to talk about basketball as a team sport,
those are two separate things.
Speaker 6 (01:36:32):
Well, you're bringing that knife to a gunfight. Yeah, this
is of note to us because, as she suggested, odds
are extremely high. Kevin Durant is playing for a team
that believes they can win this coming season and for
every season he is now going to be on their roster.
(01:36:54):
Is it Houston. Is it San Antonio? Is it the
team without a coach in the Big Apple? It's not Phoenix. No,
he won't be playing for Phoenix.
Speaker 2 (01:37:04):
But if it's true this report that says that he
essentially and this is this source is hoops Wire, but
a league source told them that he prefers the Suns
trade him to the San Antonio Spurs. Now, I will
start by saying that this isn't even the first time
(01:37:28):
this off season where someone has said that a source
close to Kevin Durant says he prefers that they trade
him to X team. One of those was obviously the
Houston Rockets. Actually, it wasn't even phrased that way. It
was phrased Kevin Durant prefers to play for the Rockets
and eme Udoka because of their close relationship.
Speaker 6 (01:37:48):
He and Jalen Green work out together. Da da da
da da da dada.
Speaker 2 (01:37:51):
So I just this is to me, this is what
WEX always points to that stuff's just being thrown out
there in a again traditionally relatively slow sports news cycle
time of the calendar, and you know it's dressed up
that way.
Speaker 6 (01:38:11):
San Antonio has an incredibly bright future with All Stars,
Victor w Inbinyama and Dearon Fox leading the way. Yeah,
questions are being asked on the shows that have to
fill time Nationally basketball wise, who has a better chance
to win a championship next year, Houston or San Antonio.
Houston is probably widely considered as a playoff team next year,
(01:38:32):
no matter what they do. They were a playoff team
this year. They won more games than everybody in the
West except for Oklahoma City. I think it's pretty safe
to say everyone that follows the NBA expects, under all
circumstances when the year begins, the Rockets roster is a
playoff caliber, probably high playoff caliber roster. I don't think
that can be said about the San Antonio Spurs for
(01:38:53):
sure at this point, And honestly, I'm not even sure.
I really am not. If Dearon Fox, On Castle, Victor Wembanyama,
and Kevin Durant are all teammates in San Antonio next year,
I'm still not sure that they're even going to be
in the top eight in the West.
Speaker 2 (01:39:12):
Look, they I have not broken down what their record
was with Victor winbin Yama and the Aaron Fox in
that tiny little window that they've played post All Star
or post a trade deadline before Victor went down with
the blood clots.
Speaker 6 (01:39:28):
Not enough games to matter.
Speaker 2 (01:39:29):
But I do know that when he was healthy and
on the floor, they were not even a five hundred team.
Speaker 6 (01:39:36):
Forty six starts. He did not come off the bench
last year for Victor. They lost twenty five of those games.
They were twenty one and twenty five now a year
better for him. Not the rookie season of Castle, full
season of Fox, and were hypothetically giving them Kevin Durant
last year's team, they shouldn't have had a winning record.
Speaker 2 (01:39:55):
I'm not gonna have a coaching change mid stream because
that happened too.
Speaker 6 (01:39:59):
Yeah, Mitch Johnson was the interim coach, then he is
the full time head coach now has been hired. I
don't I just can't ignore the West. I'm all for
unbiased viewing of what San Antonio actually is. That's not
a terrible roster, but it is if you're comparing it
to everybody else's roster, everybody else in the West that
(01:40:21):
I think is top eight. They have a better team
at the top, a better top four, better top five,
a better starting five, whatever you want to say. Unless
you're gonna tell me that Victor Wenbergnam is going beyond
this is wild what this seven foot four player can
do and telling me look at how he led his
(01:40:41):
team and his team of good players to victories over
these other good teams. Because guess how San Antonio gets
a better record they start beating all these teams I'm
talking about. It's not just where do they finish in
the standings. The only way to get to that place
in the standings is to beat them. See Houston last year,
look at their record against all these other teams in
the playoffs. It was good because they beat them all.
Speaker 2 (01:41:03):
That's the only way you can advance from where both
San Antonio and Houston were just two years ago, not
in the top ten in the West. Most importantly, Victor
Winbinyama with his nickname of Wimby, that's the only nickname
I will be accepting reference and none of them are
(01:41:25):
even remotely true. Just further cementing my claim that this
stupid website that's very very useful for numbers just makes
up nicknames. And it's honestly that is it is important
enough to mention because when you're this kind of a
useful website that gives just an inordinate amount of great numbers.
(01:41:45):
It's an amazing source for numbers. But you can't slap
extra Terrestrial VIC or Alien out there as actual nicknames
for Victor wibin Yama and expect me to believe it.
Vic is silly, so is the extra Terrestrial. He's not et.
That's Sam Cassel.
Speaker 6 (01:42:05):
His name is Victor, and nobody calls him Vic, but
it's it's part of his name. Nobody calls it alien either.
It's just dumb. Well, those are made up nicknames. That's
why I think, I says it's hilarious. I feel like
the whole site is so tremendously put together, meticulously put together,
and advancements continually get made, and they have a subscription
(01:42:27):
service for even more. And then they let the guy
with the red stapler put in nicknames.
Speaker 2 (01:42:34):
Mike Air Jordan, mj his Airness. We're doing well right
right to the good one Money black Cat, mister June.
Speaker 6 (01:42:44):
Mister June. Oh, these are good.
Speaker 2 (01:42:46):
Goat Superman, Captain Marvel, Black Jesus and Magic Mike. He's
not a strip act for women on the Vegas Strip.
Speaker 6 (01:42:58):
Into the way Matthew Conahy's movies had not come out yet.
I'm sorry for those of you that think that other guy,
that lead actor, Guy Shanning. They're not his movie Shanning.
They're Matthews movies. She may are any movie. I'm in
It ran the Club my movie. He's the man, and
nobody calls him mister June. As long as we can
go back to NBA cobwebs and find all the broadcasters
(01:43:21):
that use those nicknames, they're all good to me.
Speaker 2 (01:43:24):
I good to know that Michael Jordan is known as
mister June according to Basketball Reference. Thing.
Speaker 6 (01:43:29):
There's your segment. Time comes your way. Next, a pair
of prominent athletes say what.
Speaker 1 (01:43:37):
The A on Sports Talk seven ninety. This is Adam
and Adam sweekly charmed through mind buckling moments that make you.
Speaker 2 (01:43:48):
Go, hey, what what?
Speaker 7 (01:43:53):
What?
Speaker 3 (01:43:55):
Tied water is here?
Speaker 13 (01:43:57):
What are you talking about?
Speaker 6 (01:43:58):
On a Tuesday play? What odin? I?
Speaker 2 (01:44:01):
Dad?
Speaker 3 (01:44:02):
Now say what?
Speaker 6 (01:44:06):
We've got a couple of options here, the talkie talkers athletes,
especially since the NFL is in full on mini camp mode,
or access to them other than the ones we have
here the other thirty one cities. It's it's more than usual.
We got two specific instances. The Pittsburgh Steelers introduced at
Aaron Rodgers twelve to everybody, he wears number eight for
(01:44:30):
the Pittsburgh Steelers, but he didn't change his handle, nor
should he looking smooth that practice. He had his media
availability after practice today. Mike Tomlin spoke after practice today,
and we're not going to hear from either one of them,
but rather we're going to hear from somebody who gets
to play against him and is relishing that for this
(01:44:54):
upcoming season. Very little for this player to relish this
upcoming season, but he'll go out there and he'll do
his job like he always has. This Miles Garrett, Miles
Garrett is going to reck shop again for the Browns
off the edge. Will it equal wins? I doubt it.
Will it equal him earning his money? Yeah, it absolutely will.
(01:45:16):
The Cleveland Browns are at the Pittsburgh Steelers on October twelfth.
They will host the Pittsburgh Steelers just after Christmas on
December twenty eighth, when one of them is fighting for
an outside shot at the playoffs and the other is
wondering which draft pick in the top ten will they procure.
Probably that's latter's Miles Garrett's team. But Miles was presented
(01:45:38):
with the question today about Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
You'll get a chance to play against him twice this year.
He's now a faux inside the physical, nasty, vaunted AFC North.
Your thoughts on getting after Aaron Rodgers, mister Garrett, I
think we got opportunity to us put him in the
(01:46:02):
good opportunity to put him in the graveyard.
Speaker 2 (01:46:05):
Yeah, if you couldn't hear between the sneeze and the
uncomfortable media laughter, that's what he said in between.
Speaker 6 (01:46:10):
Yeah, sorry about that. It's only so much we can
do with those who, you know, provide us with that.
We appreciate them posting on social media. We'd much more
appreciate it if it was better. What do you think
about Aaron Rodgers's you? Okay? Thanks because you said that,
let's hear it again. Thanks opportunity to us. Don't need cole.
(01:46:35):
There's a second part of it. We won't need. We
won't need a media laughter, and we don't really need
anything post sneeze one more time under those parameters.
Speaker 2 (01:46:45):
Thanks, good opportunity to us.
Speaker 6 (01:46:48):
Thank you very much. Put that sneeze in the graveyard.
It's not coming back.
Speaker 2 (01:46:53):
I mean, that's awesome trash talk in all seriousness, it's
pretty solid. Like nobody, well anybody that's like that's like
what people would say that Michael Jordan acted like he's
just saying it.
Speaker 6 (01:47:08):
Like I saw something. The other day.
Speaker 2 (01:47:10):
It was Reggie Miller and Vernon Maxwell were up on
the Up and Smoke podcast talking about what it was
like to go up against Mike, and Reggie goes on
this long soliloquy about how there was no tell, there
was no weaknesses. He can go right, he can go left,
he can shoot, he can fade, can he's got a
forty eight inch vertical. While doing all this, his tongues out,
he's coming at you. He's talking trash. And of course
(01:47:31):
Max was like that much and I can't even like
say two words of what he said that guy five.
Speaker 6 (01:47:36):
Ways, not even three words.
Speaker 2 (01:47:38):
No, but you get the idea, like they were like,
this guy's an assassin. But Mike wasn't necessarily, I mean,
I'm sure he was on the court. But Miles Garrett
before the season is saying what Michael used to act like,
I want to put him in the graveyard.
Speaker 6 (01:47:51):
That's awesome.
Speaker 2 (01:47:52):
That's like promo WWE heel type stuff.
Speaker 6 (01:47:57):
Two sackless games for Miles Garrett against the Green Bay Packers,
no games versus the Jets with Aaron Rodgers. So this
will likely be the first time he's sacked Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 2 (01:48:10):
And he'll be how many years older since he's appeared
in either of those uniforms when Miles Garrett is coming
after him with his ears pinned back.
Speaker 6 (01:48:17):
Also be real for a second, Okay, I'll be real.
What's up?
Speaker 2 (01:48:20):
Miles Garrett is one of the very few players who
can get away with that, and everyone just go, yep,
that makes all sense.
Speaker 6 (01:48:24):
All right? You know who he did in the graveyard.
I'll give you five seconds, Cole, who's somebody that would
be the opposite of that to kind of prove your point,
who's a defensive end NFL player? That if he had
said that with no sneeze, that nobody would have had
a laugh. We would be talking about it completely differently
and be thinking of that comment as they got to play, saying,
(01:48:45):
remember when this fool said that, who would that player?
Random Texan not going to make the team defensive end again?
I mean, I thought you were going to go bigger
than that. Maybe at least a recognizable name. That's better.
What about what about Jendavian Clowney. I was actually gonna
say that.
Speaker 2 (01:49:03):
I know he does not currently add twenty twenty five clown.
Speaker 6 (01:49:07):
Yeah, coming from Miles Garrett that that's fun. It's it's good.
He's I've seen him say it, so I know the
mode he was in when he said clowny.
Speaker 2 (01:49:16):
His best plays were here in Houston when he would
almost get to the quarterback and then wouldn't get there
run defender.
Speaker 6 (01:49:22):
He was an average sack artist, yes, average it finishing
to play, very good at disrupting them. Horrible, not a
horrible player. Our other NFL contributor to say, what is
a former Houston Texan. Last NFL team he played for
and caught a pass four was the Houston Texans. It's
Stefon Diggs. Stefan Diggs has had a super productive physically
(01:49:44):
related off season. I think he looks incredible for where
he is in his recovery and what he's been able
to do on the field. If you hadn't seen some
of the videos that he posted during the off season
months ago, which were amazed at where he was at
that point. He is doing on field act activities for
the Patriots, not all of the things that otherwise and
otherwise fully healthy player would do. But we've seen him
(01:50:06):
on the field, We've seen him running drills, and all
signs point to him being able to get on the
field and I guess help the team. I'm not sure
how good they'll be. I do, like Drake Maine, I
think they made a wise choice. I don't in who
they hired. I don't know that they needed to fire Girodmeo,
but I think Rabel is a very good head coach,
productive in that regard. I don't think finding his way
(01:50:27):
to becoming viral for other reasons. He's on a boat
this offseason, so I heard, and Mike Rabel addressed that
when he met with the media, saying they conversations have
been had. So after Diggs and the Patriots practice today
Stefan met with the media, that certainly was a topic
of conversation. For those that remember when he arrived here
(01:50:48):
and the first time we talked to him, in the
beginning of his comments will sound a lot like those
you heard here.
Speaker 14 (01:50:53):
Obviously, I want to be as candid as you guys,
as possible. I kind of like have everything where talk
about my person like with people I don't know person
I'm pretty sure everybody here, men and women are great people,
but you know what I'm saying, I kind of keep
my personally personal person. I had a conversation with Drab
Obviously I echo everything that he said. He told me,
you know, hoping everybody making good decisions and what I'm saying.
(01:51:14):
And I hasn't had a conversation with people in a
building as well, So you know, everything else is everything else,
you know, particulars is all internal.
Speaker 6 (01:51:21):
So in a roundabout kind of way, he went astros
on AC they're having internal conversations about what took place
on the boat and what was in the bag.
Speaker 2 (01:51:29):
Everything else is everything else, everything else that's a new.
It is what it is. It's a new It's fine,
It's fine.
Speaker 6 (01:51:35):
And he did say that line I was referring to
at the opening of his comments. He said something very
similar on who was here, just about you know, G
wanted to get to know people much more than he
didn't know anybody this first day here. He doesn't hardly
know anybody media wise his first day there. It's also
an easy way to not get into a bunch of things.
As a football player and a healthy one as you
(01:51:55):
saw here, and a teammate and a helpful player to have,
He's going to be helpful for the Patriots to have
on their roster, just like he was healthy. Here. More
of what he said and our reaction to it, we'll
hit you with that on the other side of the
final segment of this four o'clock hour, And additionally, we'll
actually talk Texans and Digs next next segment.
Speaker 3 (01:52:16):
The Age on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 6 (01:52:26):
It is the a team Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (01:52:29):
So I finally got something to happen that I've been
waiting on basically my whole life. I just never thought
it would be the way it happened. And let me explain.
For so long, I have been the voice of reason
for sports fans away.
Speaker 6 (01:52:48):
For this show. But now no, no, no, no.
Speaker 2 (01:52:50):
No, no, no, no, there's no caveats, there's no asterisks, there's
no you know, I am the voice for the voiceless
when it comes to things like this, and now I'm
getting what I want, but I'm not.
Speaker 6 (01:53:08):
Let me explain.
Speaker 2 (01:53:10):
It took until June of twenty twenty five for a
pro basketball player to say what I've been saying for years.
They finally came out and said it. They talked about
the officials the way they should be talked about when
they do a bad job.
Speaker 6 (01:53:27):
And I got it.
Speaker 2 (01:53:28):
In not only full living color, I got blue language
with it. Unfortunately it came from a WNBA player.
Speaker 6 (01:53:38):
Did you get it edited properly? I've been told, Oh yeah, okay.
So this stems from a hoops game played last evening.
Speaker 2 (01:53:47):
Not in the NBA Finals, because they don't play except
for every ten days.
Speaker 6 (01:53:51):
Steph Curry against Lebron, I'm sorry, Golden State against LA
the Valcries against the Sparks. Sparks fell two, three and seven,
the brand new Ballcrees up to four and five. Hoy,
what are they gonna do when they add four games
to the schedule.
Speaker 5 (01:54:06):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (01:54:06):
Kelsey Plumb one of the league's best. She took twenty shots,
missed thirteen of them, took six free throws, made all
of them, and let all scores with twenty four points,
but her team lost in overtime by eight. She was
none too pleased with the officiating, as she indicates here
in her post game commentary.
Speaker 9 (01:54:26):
And I'm gonna.
Speaker 6 (01:54:28):
I drive more than anyone in the league.
Speaker 2 (01:54:30):
So shoots six free gus.
Speaker 9 (01:54:33):
I'm sure, and I got scratches on my face, I
stratched on my body and these guards on the other
team gets sixteen tech vows and I'm sick of it.
Speaker 6 (01:54:40):
I ain't valed that in her position.
Speaker 9 (01:54:43):
I mean, they're founding me every single play, so I
got I'm very frustrated that and I'm sick of it.
Speaker 6 (01:54:49):
I'm sitting there out of what I need to do.
I talk to the recognize, I pray before the.
Speaker 2 (01:54:53):
Game, but I'm over it.
Speaker 6 (01:54:56):
I pray before the game and I'm sick of this bleep.
She also said she nice to the officials.
Speaker 2 (01:55:02):
Favorite God, I would like for you to give me
some effing foul calls.
Speaker 6 (01:55:08):
She didn't say what specifically she was praying for. Well,
it's pretty obvious, not necessarily. I mean, do you think
she's leading the witness. Her moments of prayer before each
game includes please allow the three officials working tonight's game
to not suck, to give me calls I deserve.
Speaker 2 (01:55:29):
This goes back to like the dumbest thing in sports.
You know, whether there's a roof in Texas Stadium so
God can watch his team play. That's the lowest of
the low dumb Dallas fans and Irving saying that God
needs a hole cut in the roof. Just see their
stupid But in all seriousness, God does not. I think
(01:55:51):
God probably cares ail the least amount of about sports
than anything else.
Speaker 6 (01:55:55):
Like we were arguing before the show.
Speaker 2 (01:55:56):
Today, and we were talking about things that are going
on in the world, current events that.
Speaker 6 (01:56:02):
We don't need we being me, don't need to be
caring about.
Speaker 2 (01:56:06):
Between two and six pm, I was getting a lecture
from Dad and I said, I care about them because
they are much more important than anything in the sports world,
which is what God would say if you were here.
Speaker 6 (01:56:19):
True, I know, there's no doubt about it.
Speaker 2 (01:56:21):
How However, people are throwing grenades, they're throwing bombs.
Speaker 6 (01:56:28):
In case you mean police officer.
Speaker 2 (01:56:30):
Did you see the reporter that was shot with the
rubber bullet should have been standing there.
Speaker 6 (01:56:37):
Yes, that could be a case to be made. Now,
my point in this comment we had an argument about,
was You're right. It is more important. There's no question
it's more important. I think it's easier to focus in
on what's likely to be the topics of our show
if we pushed that to the side. Chelsey can pray
for all the calls she wants, but she's not going
(01:56:58):
to the line more than six times. I should be
elected six times. No is averaging six free throws per game,
the highest of her career. She wants what SGA has,
she can't, and she plays now for Los Angeles. In
all seriousness, I know we're making jokes about this.
Speaker 2 (01:57:19):
Listen to the way she and I'm not talking about
the blue language. Listen to the way she's describing what's
happening to her like I'm getting scratched, I'm getting clawed.
Draymond Green has taken my eyeballs out. Oh wait, that
was a different league.
Speaker 6 (01:57:32):
Now, other players have said they probably didn't quite go
language wise, but they've said all these things.
Speaker 2 (01:57:38):
He's lucky that one I gotta be careful here. She's
lucky that one scrub basketball player didn't yanker down by
her ponytail like what happened in that other game. The
only reason I see this stuff, this is the stuff
that is on my timeline that regards the WNBA.
Speaker 6 (01:57:53):
By the way that that.
Speaker 2 (01:57:54):
In Angel Reese missing like her first fifty shots every game.
Speaker 6 (01:57:57):
It's only important if she misses the first one, if
you're wage ring on it, if you're a gambling if
you haven't seen that she didn't take a three, very clever. Well,
she also didn't make it. That's true. A lot of
me bounds if you have followed that A box missing
the cart, it's it's there. It's my favorite thing to
follow right now. Yeah, by the way, to kind of
(01:58:17):
tie some of our show through the first three hours
today together. This is Kelsey plum Yeah, or as she's
known as kp Okay and plumb Dog. No, she's not
known as plumb Dog. Actually is she is? That is
a corner everybody follows her career from Washington to the W's.
(01:58:40):
I don't care. I don't believe it. It's facts.
Speaker 2 (01:58:43):
If I don't believe it, then it doesn't exist in
my mind. And that's how I will I float through
life better.
Speaker 6 (01:58:48):
Overall number one pick of the San Antonio basketball franchise,
plum Dog or the Extraterrestrial. I'm gonna go with plum
Dog over Alien. The San Antonio Stars first overall pick
in the twenty seventeen draft. Plumb Dog. Great management. They
let her walk out of the Alums, got one year
out of her one year, one year.
Speaker 2 (01:59:10):
Like the one year that the Clippers got out of
SGA before he started getting the free throws she wants.
Speaker 6 (01:59:15):
That's it. She ain't getting them. But seriously, this is
what NBA players should do.
Speaker 2 (01:59:20):
Fred van Vliet did it before he was a member
of the Rockets.
Speaker 6 (01:59:24):
He let Ben Taylor know what's up. She will get fined.
He got fined, and the refs and the player will
will move on.
Speaker 2 (01:59:30):
She's saying it because she knows that's how it's gonna go.
Here is expression a that will get X amount of
dollars taking out of my account, But it's for the
greater good. So she's actually paying to get more visibility
on the terrible officials in her league, like there are
in other leagues.
Speaker 6 (01:59:49):
She's just speaking up for the others, speaking up for
the feast of colliers. She's just being a plumb dog,
Absolutely being a plumb dog. For sure. She's plumb out
of free throw attempts after six, among the league leaders
in free throw attempts per game. But the reason she said.
Speaker 2 (02:00:04):
Hang on a second, what did you say without thinking
I was gonna make six a game?
Speaker 6 (02:00:09):
And she's among the league leaders five point six puts
her tenth ten point seven would be first.
Speaker 2 (02:00:15):
Who leads the NBA and free throws. Go ahead, say it,
you're honest. You sure it's not SGA. Yeah, she just
shot another one.
Speaker 6 (02:00:23):
Just now. They don't play.
Speaker 2 (02:00:25):
She leads the league at six attempts per contest. She's tenth,
She's tenth. She's top ten at six per contest point
six to be exact.
Speaker 6 (02:00:36):
It's your rounding up. Oh that is so bad, you
know what, You know what, plumb dog. I'm just doing
it right. It'll be over before you know it, and
then you can move on with your life. She's been
very very positive player as a member of the w
representing the league quite well.
Speaker 2 (02:00:54):
Good for her five o'clock hour and Football at five
coming up next.
Speaker 3 (02:00:59):
The eighteen. On Sports Talk seven.
Speaker 4 (02:01:02):
Ninety, Adam Clinton and Adam Wexler are the A Team A.
Speaker 6 (02:01:18):
It is five o'clock. It's fun this day's program, but
it also brings us. Football at five brings a little
bit closer. First pitch with your Houston Astros and the
White Sox. This evening we hitched into the Astros on
deck show from the Yard at six o'clock. I'm sure
at that point in time, Matt Thomas will let you
know that the Astros stranglehold on the Al West has
(02:01:40):
come to an end because Craig Kimbrel is now a
Texas Ranger. But that's for later.
Speaker 2 (02:01:45):
We are talking football. Yes, did you think that was
gonna I was gonna miss that. You just slid that
in under the radar.
Speaker 6 (02:01:51):
Craig Kimberl signs minor league deal with Jas Rangers.
Speaker 2 (02:01:54):
Ah, I thought you were gonna tell me they were
to put him on the major league roster so the
Astros could tee off on him.
Speaker 6 (02:01:59):
They probably will. Wait, hang on, who am I probably not?
You're Craig Kimberl.
Speaker 2 (02:02:05):
What a stupid setup? Why does he do that? Does
he know that I can't I'm twelve and I can't
stop laughing nose?
Speaker 6 (02:02:11):
That will get him one appearance with the Braves before
they d f Adam, which they did after he made
that one appearance earlier this week? Did you like mykeg? Mike?
Craig Kimberl impression was the best I've ever seen anybody do,
because I've never seen anybody else ever do it before.
It was definitely at the top of the list. First
rate at the nobody with me, Nobody in my sight lines.
(02:02:33):
I've seen people at the ball.
Speaker 2 (02:02:34):
Why that's because they all knew if they did do
it in public, everybody would know that they're making fun.
Speaker 6 (02:02:39):
Of They would and I did. You're making fun of
minor league pictures.
Speaker 2 (02:02:43):
I'm sorry to do a four hour talk show every
day with a juvenile delink with me.
Speaker 6 (02:02:48):
I'm not upset about that at all. I avamir, I
look in it and sometimes that is me. Uh me.
This morning was over at Texans practice. Many can't practice
day number one. They will have many can't practice Day
umber two. It's time to empty the notebook. The notebook
began with CJ. Stroud throwing passes. Charted those passes he
throwed during drills with his whiteouts and running backs. He
(02:03:10):
made fifteen throws. Everything appeared to be fine. Did not
look like he would end up being limited in any
of the work they would then do later in the practice.
And he wasn't. No limitations that were visible, no limitations
discussed by either he or his head coach after practice
when we spoke to both of them. Only other player
we talked to after practice today at the quote unquote
(02:03:31):
podium was Calen Bullock did not get his thoughts on
how CJ looked today, though he nearly picked him off
during team drills. A ball that was thrown a little
low and outside, a little late on the throw from CJ.
It was one that he nearly was able to scoop
up off the dirt and intercept. I told you I
charted CJ's number of passes today, and I'm not planning
(02:03:53):
on doing that very often into the future. Maybe I'll
do it again tomorrow, maybe I won't. During team drills,
there were fifteen throws, eight of them connections. Sounds a
lot worse than his throws actually were. In fact, the
first four throws he made during team drills during seven
on sevens well, two of the four were touchdowns. First
one was a throw to CJ. Or two kde stover
(02:04:13):
over the right side, got him right before he hit
the sideline, right over the underneath defender and obviously before
the defender on his back, and he turned upfield and
put it in the end zone from the forty about
a twenty five yard throw with fifteen yards off Yack.
Next two passes incomplete pass was broken up on one
over the middle Christian Kirk made a diving attempt and
(02:04:34):
probably should have caught the third one but did not
was dropped. Then the pass and play of the morning.
He strops back, gets enough protection at practice where the
person in the red shirt didn't get hit, and he
got all sorts of extra time to throw because that's
what practice is like, and he floated one down beautifully
(02:04:55):
from the forty almost probably forty five yards in the air,
right to the goal line. Last defending rookie Jayden Higgins
down the left sideline, goes up for the ball with
one arm, left arm catches it, secures it up against
his body, and heads into the end zone on his
back touchdown. You now can actually see that this was
(02:05:16):
during the portion of practice we no longer had the
ability to video, but the team of course captured it
and they happened to have a camera right there on
that particular sideline, so there's a great view of the throw.
I posted a couple of throws on my social media
from CJ. The pass little fade route that you run
during drills with your wide outs. You basically you're on
(02:05:39):
the ten twelve yard line. You're throwing a fade at
the corner clearly he did not throw it in the
right place, but because Nico Collins is unbelievable, he was
able to contort his body, turned back the wrong direction
and haul it in one handed and get his feet
down naturally. I posted that to pump up the Texans
have one of the best receivers in the NFL. He's
showing him how it's done. It was met accurately with
(02:06:01):
some comments that said he looks rusty. That didn't look
like a very good throw, and I responded, I said,
after practice CJ. Stroud said, I was rusty, missed some throws,
made some throws, so everybody's on the same page. He
definitely did not look like he'd been. He wasn't in
a mid season form by any means. Mind you, that
pass was during a team or an individual drill, not
(02:06:23):
during their team portion. They did run some eleven on eleven's,
and again I could run you through all those passes,
but there's no need. Looked perfectly fine from a health standpoint,
and if this was the middle of training camp practice
and he performed the way he did today, we wouldn't
think twice about it. Totally normal stuff, some good, some bad.
They did do what they've been doing throughout most of
training camp, a rotating work at left tackle between veteran
(02:06:46):
newcomer Cam Robinson and rookie newcomer tay Ersrie didn't get
as many looks at the one as normal. They got
one snap in the red zone and when it was
not complete, they just went to the next group and
the next. Keaton Slovas actually made almost all of the
throws and team drills rather than Davis Mills. Imagine that
was maybe more of a pitch count thing or who
(02:07:07):
they wanted out there. The rest of the ones on
the offensive line continue to remain unchanged, and this is
when what Tamiko said about it's really hard to gauge
what we have on offensive line, same reason I would
say the same about the defensive line, because the pads
aren't on. I can tell you that Will Anderson got
the best of Blake Fisher today because I'd be telling
you the truth. But I don't know if that means
(02:07:29):
this play would have been a sack or Blake Fisher
couldn't have done something differently because you're in past. I
just think it's the best of a lot of people.
But it's important, yeah, because if Blake Fisher can hold
his own or lose less against will Anderson, well, then
you might feel okay about playing him because there's currently
not a competition for Blake Fisher at all. Now if
(02:07:53):
that changes when Trent Brown is practicing, He's been at practice,
but he's not healthy enough to practice, so they just
simply don't want him out there yet. He's giving advice
and being a great teammate, but he's not out there.
I don't know if Cam Robinson ultimately becomes competition for
him or Ersrie, who is getting right tackle work, is
much more likely to become competition with him. But I
(02:08:13):
also think they're trying to do the right thing with Ersery,
anticipating maybe he's our left tackle of the future, and
maybe he's our left tackle of the present. So let's
give him every opportunity to show that that's the case.
And will most of his first team work, all of
his first team work, is coming at left tackle. Blake
Fisher has not proven at all. Blake Fisher's gonna have
to prove that he has earned that job. The rest
(02:08:35):
of the offensive line. Andrews, flanked by Titus Howard and
Lake and Tomlinson honestly, don't think there's any competition there
other than this obvious comment I could have made before.
Titus Howard is their best right guard, which is where
he's playing right now. Unfortunately, he's also their best right tackle,
(02:08:56):
which is where he's not playing right now. For obvious reasons.
They don't don't have what they need across the line,
and it's unfortunate that they reach this point. Again, opening
comment from Demiko Ryans. When he was talking about Nick Chubb,
he went out of his way to talk about what
a great job Nick Cassari was doing for all the
(02:09:16):
obvious reasons. And today the deal with the JK. Dobbins
signing was finalized earlier today, and he's getting a little
bit over five and a half million for his one
year deal. Texans just paid Nick Chubb half of that
or with incentives neighborhood of that. But again, if he's
reaching his incentives, that means he's on the field and
playing good football. But for about half the money you
went with Nick Chubb. And I don't disagree with anything
(02:09:38):
Demiko's saying about what a great job Nick is doing.
And we still have to sit here every day and
balance them. Well, how many different position groups are there.
On defense, well, there's the inter defensive line, the defensive edge,
there's the linebackers, there's the secondary. We'll just call it
three groups, three lines. He's been awesome at all. Three.
What do we have on offense? We got running, got quarterbacks,
(02:10:01):
got tight ends, receivers, and offensive line. That's five. He
ain't been good at drafting CJ. Strout and been good
at trading for Joe Mixon and signing Nick Chubb. He's
been good at adding three wide receivers who probably are
gonna see a ton of playing time this year to
go with Nico Collins. Tight end group is the same.
And that's well, that's one, two, three, that's eight out
(02:10:22):
of nine. He's been like not good or kind of okay,
or they'll get by borderline awesome. Their roster is awesome,
and you still there's two sides of the scale, eight
groups of awesomeness and one group of not very good.
And the scale is balanced. Unfortunately it's the line.
Speaker 2 (02:10:43):
But just as an aside, because we're talking about Nick
Chubb so much the last forty eight hours.
Speaker 6 (02:10:48):
Yeah, Chubb was at practice today. He's wearing number twenty one.
Cole Carpi line, I'm wrong. I don't believe he took
any snaps during any team drills he did. Okay, what
if what if I were to tell you.
Speaker 2 (02:11:02):
What if the Texans, which I think to this point
it's the Herschel Walker trade and then the Deshaun Watson
trade in order.
Speaker 6 (02:11:12):
Yeah, I don't know about it because I'm given a
whole lot of thought, and that's probably a bad I
probably should have.
Speaker 2 (02:11:18):
Well, three super Bowl titles weighs that scale in fair of.
Speaker 6 (02:11:22):
I'm trying to say, like I don't. It's nothing to
do with the Watson Browns Texans deal. It clearly was
awesome for one side and lopside moste But are there
not other deals that are just not coming to mind
about how Williams side mind? Just because what he ended
up being size wise, it was enormous. Yeah, they got
all their picks for the whole draft, but then what
did they do with them? Right now, we know what
(02:11:43):
the Texans have done for the most part, we just
don't know what the team has resulted. The players they've gotten,
they're almost all home runs. We're fine with saying, look
at who they have, now, go do something Cowboys like Okay, great,
you have Emmitt Smith and you have this player. Well
then they did the next part they won titles. Well
the difference is their line was good anyway. Yeah, CJ.
Stroud way better than Troy Aikman, That's true, But there's
(02:12:06):
a big what will he do with that line? Oh
my gosh.
Speaker 2 (02:12:08):
But what I was gonna get at is, at the
end of the day, you know, you talk about the
incentives that Nick Chubb has on his contract.
Speaker 6 (02:12:15):
If you get if you get.
Speaker 2 (02:12:19):
Just anything out of Nick Chubb, and you sent to
Seaan Watson that way, how much like what kind of
a straight jacket? Mentally are Cleveland Browns fans going to
be in if Nick Chubb does anything this season of
note for the Texans.
Speaker 6 (02:12:33):
Yeah, it was brought up yesterday by Cole and probably
should have been magnified even more. And I actually tried
to undersell it. If you saw what the Browns social
media looked like after that signing was official, be loved, huge,
huge part of Cleveland Brown's historical fabric. And now Nick
Chubb is a Houston Texan. More on what took place
(02:12:53):
over Texans practice continued to empty the notebook here on
the eighteen.
Speaker 1 (02:12:59):
The on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 6 (02:13:07):
Shout out real quickly.
Speaker 2 (02:13:10):
I'm going to combine the two things we were talking
about earlier, Sports and DC. Did you see what our good,
close personal friend Reed Ryan was.
Speaker 6 (02:13:21):
Up to today? What is that?
Speaker 7 (02:13:23):
No?
Speaker 6 (02:13:23):
I did not.
Speaker 2 (02:13:24):
Of course you didn't, because he posted this thirty seven
seconds ago. He's in Washington, he says, didn't have testifying
in front of Congress on the Bengo card, much less
with MiLB mascots in the crowd. All kidding aside, it
was an honor to be called to Capitol Hill for
(02:13:44):
the Small Business Subcommittee on Economic Development. Neat experience, so
glad it was all friendly fire. Baseball brings people together.
Always good seeing TCU alum Congressman Roger Williams good luck
in the Congressional baseball game tomorrow. Hashtag go frogs read
Ryan much like his father, but for different reasons, is
(02:14:08):
an American treasure.
Speaker 6 (02:14:09):
I mean, we all know about Nolan.
Speaker 2 (02:14:11):
I mean he's guy over five thousand strikeouts and then
kick your ass.
Speaker 6 (02:14:16):
That's Nolan Ryan. But as we discussed earlier on the
eight Team, the all time leader and walks, that's why
do you gotta do that? Man?
Speaker 2 (02:14:24):
He's also the all time leader in strikeouts facts. Guess
what people talk about more. That's why I pointed it out.
I know, we find all the good because you're you.
It was part of on this date in Astros history.
But honestly, read Ryan is so he's the best at
what he does. I'll just say it right there. He's
the best at what he does for the game of baseball.
There's nobody better than him at that. He's an asset
(02:14:48):
to the game.
Speaker 6 (02:14:49):
Yep. And I just I.
Speaker 2 (02:14:52):
I wish he was still a member of the Astros organization.
I really do, because it was. It was awesome when
he was there.
Speaker 6 (02:14:58):
Yeah, I definitely agree a lot of the things that
have been improved about the ball club over the many
years that they've seen this ballpark and seen this era
of baseball. It's definitely a part of a lot of
that brings us to a couple of things we could
mention from out at the yard. Matt Thomas have more
on this is he comes your way At six o'clock
for the Astros on Deck show. I thought we were
(02:15:19):
likely headed to a Spencer Araghetti update and Joe Spotted
did talk about when they expect Spencer to be throwing
off of a mound, that is, after this home stand,
hopes to have him, could have him throwing off a
mound when the Astros leave town following their game against
Minnesota on Sunday. So throwing off a mound is it's
(02:15:40):
a step. It also gives you an indication of we're
here on June tenth. Sounds pretty unlikely he's throwing a
pitch for the Astros until July at the earliest. It
means more of Ryan Gusto, Brandon Walter. Brandon Walter, by
the way, will join the A team tomorrow. Yeah, two thirty.
We'll get a chance to talk to him after Now
(02:16:02):
he's made two very good starts for the Astros and
we'll remain in the rotation. More of him, more of Gordon,
the possibility that Miguel Loolo will make his major league
debut at some point. Aj Bluebaugh could be back, just
it's a long period of time. Spencer Agatty made two
starts before Seattle hurt him, and so that's where we
are with that yard On Alvarez, Chas McCormick, Zach Decenzo
(02:16:24):
all on the ten day il for their various ailments
Zach Decenzo, I don't think was expected to have picked
up a bat just yet when they talked about what
they found in the capsule strain when they looked at
his hand. So no timeline change there. McCormick's oblique strain
and yard On Alvarez with broken bone in his hand.
None of them are swinging a bat yet, but none
(02:16:45):
of them. I don't think Chaz is a little different
because I don't think we have a full picture of
the magnitude of an oblique strain, but we know what
type of injury that is and how often they are
very difficult to overcome. But the timeline on those of
the other two players is it remains unchanged that it
would have been shocking. I think if Joe Spotta would
have said that either one of them is swinging a
(02:17:06):
bat at this point in their respective recoveries.
Speaker 2 (02:17:08):
And you should probably check your mentions on social media.
Speaker 6 (02:17:12):
My mentions you are at Adam J Wexler.
Speaker 2 (02:17:14):
Uh huh, Okay, Well, we had a listener slash viewer
that happened to click a photo of us at the
exact right time last segment, And.
Speaker 6 (02:17:25):
Yeah, Kimbrel, gotcha. I shout out to soubs.
Speaker 2 (02:17:32):
She says, we're at a work happy hour and you
gained more fans.
Speaker 6 (02:17:36):
If you're unaware of this, we love it. You're out,
you're enjoying the A team, you're enjoying a happy hour,
you're getting some food, you're enjoying some games. Well, we're
probably on the television on Space City Home Network wherever
you might be. Snap us a pick, send it on over,
hit it up on the socials. Love to see it appreciated, soubs.
(02:17:56):
And yes, at the very moment, you can see that
little bit of a smile coming up over my face.
You can't help you, so are Kimberling? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (02:18:05):
You just how many times during the day do you
look across here and just think, oh my gosh, I
cannot believe.
Speaker 6 (02:18:12):
I am doing a show with this guy.
Speaker 2 (02:18:13):
Oh it happens, by the way, read I let him
know that I just gassed him up on our show.
Speaker 6 (02:18:18):
Nice and he said, ha. Trying to keep it real.
Astros and White Sox. Tonight, the Astros will attempt to
even the season series with the victory tonight That's so sad,
and potentially claim the season series with victories tonight, tomorrow
and Thursday Night.
Speaker 2 (02:18:34):
All right, Remember when I made a prediction about Fromber's
no hitter and you kind of laughed in my face.
Speaker 6 (02:18:39):
Lancepa colors two straight.
Speaker 2 (02:18:43):
I strikeouts tonight, it's happening. That's a big number.
Speaker 6 (02:18:49):
It's thirteen. That's a big It's the White Socks.
Speaker 2 (02:18:53):
The only more sure thing would be if the stupid
Rockies were coming to town.
Speaker 6 (02:18:58):
I mean, do you have any recent history of Lance
mccullor's junior facing the Chicago White Sox. Well, the last
time he did was in the postseason. That's not true.
I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Did he get his first start
post injury was against the Chicago White Sox during their
first series of the year. That doesn't Against the White
Socks in May, he struck out four batters, he recorded
(02:19:19):
eleven outs. He will supplant that total with nine more
strikeouts tonight and get to his career high at thirteen. Seriously,
if he does it, what do I get? Uh? What
do you want? A segment tomorrow where you know what
I way? All the things you know I can't not
answer to and to be quiet. No, I can't jump in.
I can't interrupt you like I'm doing now. I can't
(02:19:40):
stop you. I can't say, wait a minute, I can't
do anything. I've got five unfiltered minutes of me not
saying I don't want to counteract what you don't want,
that I know what I want.
Speaker 2 (02:19:49):
I don't know what's offer the light of our off
air conversation that Cole doesn't even know about. He want
to talk about the West Coast. Uh huh. I would
like a family size box of cheese its with the
American flag imprinted upon each and everyone of the little
tiny squares.
Speaker 6 (02:20:07):
Shave you, as the full grown adult that you are,
can help make cheese its great again.
Speaker 2 (02:20:13):
Well, they've already been made great again because they're in
the shape of an American flag. When exactly well, Cole
brings up a very good question that, honestly, you know.
Speaker 6 (02:20:22):
He told me, well hold on, hold on, Like I said,
you could have had access to me not doing this.
We passed on that. I don't think I've said cheese
its are bad as much as I'm trying to say
it's for kids.
Speaker 2 (02:20:33):
How did you, Fritz, how did you phrase it? During
the break and Cole couldn't hear this conversation, you said.
Speaker 6 (02:20:38):
You said gold fish are for little little kids. They
grow out of goldfish, and now you give them cheese its.
But when you become an adult, you eat other crackers.
He said that cheese its are the junior.
Speaker 2 (02:20:49):
High version of goldfish, an upgrade from gold Just absolute
dripping with condescension. Horrible thing to say about the ultimate
snack food.
Speaker 9 (02:20:58):
How about this, if he gets a career high tonight,
how about I get to hit mute on him five
different times on tomorrow show.
Speaker 6 (02:21:05):
Well, see, you're making your own bet. Now have to
know on that.
Speaker 2 (02:21:10):
Seriously, if he does this, I better have American flag cheese.
It's sitting right there on the console when I get here.
Speaker 6 (02:21:16):
To oh yeah, that's I forgot that. We were wagering this,
and you're making me go anti Lance. What do you
mean saying he's not going to do it? Then go
buy them now, well I know he's not going to
do it.
Speaker 2 (02:21:28):
On your way home, and then say I thought so
much of Lance, I got him anyway, and everybody wins.
Speaker 6 (02:21:34):
That would be the way to go. I won't be
doing that. They're not going to break your bank account.
Speaker 2 (02:21:38):
It's like what they're They're totally overpriced, like everything in
the grocery store.
Speaker 6 (02:21:42):
These days, probably some sort of by this particular model
of cheese, it's and get cost less than eggs. I
thought the price was going down, it is, it's gone
down quite a bit. I don't be sure to note that.
And then our next grocery store visit. I never even
thought about the price of eggs until do you need eggs?
And no, we bought a bunch this weekend. When you're
at the store, if you need them, if you're lucky
(02:22:04):
enough to be in that financial situation, you just buy them.
Speaker 2 (02:22:09):
How much do you think the organic stuff is? Just bs?
They slap it on everything these days.
Speaker 6 (02:22:14):
So you mean, what about the beef products where they
say the animal that's produced your beef as a only
these are grass fed?
Speaker 2 (02:22:22):
Well, what were the other cows eating? That's what I
don't understand. And why is everything got organic on it?
And then they have another section that's like super organic.
Look this side of the store over here, you can't
even put these products. Don't these also say organic on
this side. I don't believe any of it. It's all propaganda.
Not doing my shopping over there anyway. At once it's
(02:22:43):
the store, I probably don't need to be there. I'm
ready with the other FEUs. You like things that taste
good that have preservatives.
Speaker 6 (02:22:49):
I mean, I'm not anti preservatives, No, they just seem okay.
I like the taste.
Speaker 2 (02:22:54):
Oh man, Well, the moral of the story is tomorrow,
whether he has twelve strikeouts or two, I'm getting a
box of American Flag cheese.
Speaker 6 (02:23:02):
It's from Adam Wexler. Definitely need to get this series
started off obviously correctly. These are I hate even putting it.
Baseball's just totally different. But go out, put some runs
on the board, take care of business. Lance continue to
make progress. Back to back six innings, outings, nineteen k's
and only seven hits allowed in those two starts. The
(02:23:23):
Athletics and Pirates, like the White Sox, they're not playoff
caliber teams, so take care of business. He's done that
in the last two starts. We'll see if he makes
it three fourth, three. The absolute total utter nonsense that's
been discussed in the first fourteen segments of the show
should leave a lot for us to get to And
in case you missed it, that's next.
Speaker 1 (02:23:45):
The A team on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 6 (02:23:53):
A lot of items. We either need more time to
spend on our items. We've completely ignored. That's when it
case you missed it is all about what do we
have today? Cole One thing before you get there. In
case you missed it, we do have tickets to give
away to lol Wayne the Carter sixth North American Tour
September eighteenth at the Woodlands Pavilion. You can get tickets
now at ticketmaster dot com or in the final segment
(02:24:15):
of the show. Since you've been listening, you'll have a
chance to win them something discussed here during this hour.
We will ask you a question about in the final
segment of the show for a chance to win those tickets.
What do we have today on In case you missed it,
Cole Nothing.
Speaker 9 (02:24:29):
You guys are on everything from Jesus all Americans to Nah.
All right, if I have to fix something, let's talk
about Nick Schubb a little bit.
Speaker 6 (02:24:37):
Was that practice worry number twenty one?
Speaker 9 (02:24:39):
Dan do a lot, and for the Texans fans out
there that are looking for him to be a focal
point of this offense over the next several days, I
would highly suggest turning that tune off just here kind
of getting acclimated and if you don't believe me, maybe
you will leave to Meeka Ryans and how he addressed
the arrival of the four time Pro Bowl running back.
Speaker 13 (02:25:01):
The most important thing right now is for Nick to
just get acclimated to how we do things. We all
know the caliber player that Nick can be when he's healthy,
when he's at the top of his game, he's a
dynamic player, he's a game changer.
Speaker 6 (02:25:12):
So we're just easing him in.
Speaker 13 (02:25:14):
We'll see how far he gets come back training camp
ready to go.
Speaker 6 (02:25:18):
Yeah, yesterday we're talking about the possibilities for numbers for him.
It was basically fifty to fifty. I guessed one. I
was wrong. It is twenty one. But keep this in mind,
he wore number thirty one when he first became a
Cleveland Brown right during camp. That was then when the
season began, right to twenty four, which he's worn ever since.
Speaker 2 (02:25:41):
And that was what he was on the cover of
Madden with before he got hurt that one time.
Speaker 6 (02:25:46):
Well, see, he unfortunately has been hurt more than that
one time over the course of his career. Two injuries
in the last two years, a blown out neither required
a couple of surgeries, an ACL among them, and then
a foot issue last year that ended up costing him
the final three weeks of the season. No in occasion
that there's any health related issues. When we saw him
out on the field today, despite not taking any of
(02:26:06):
their team drills, did all the running back drills, obviously
past his physical I think we'll see similar limited Nick
Chubb tomorrow and all signs point too full go when
they get back for training camp. We didn't mention it
either these the last two days. Like he's been a
viral member of social media because of his strength before
(02:26:28):
do you see a squad yes, oh my god.
Speaker 9 (02:26:32):
Just ridiculous, and like, if that's the version that you
had to deal with on third and two, just give
the Texas the first down. Honestly.
Speaker 6 (02:26:39):
There there we talked about the tandem they could be,
whether most of the time that will be not on
the field together, but there's if you know, if you
get what you think you're getting out of Nick Chubb
one and two RB one and RB two, there's probably
not a more physical duo league wide.
Speaker 2 (02:26:58):
I'm trying to temper my enthusiasm because again, what's his age.
Speaker 6 (02:27:02):
He'll be thirty this year December.
Speaker 2 (02:27:04):
I believe he turns the Yeah, it's such a high
reward possibility and like you're talking about if Joe Mixon's
your guy, or how about scenario two, what if the
worst does happen, Joe Mixon does go down. I mean,
I know you got to keep him healthy too, but
(02:27:25):
that's a heck of a backup.
Speaker 6 (02:27:26):
Well, that's kind of the beauty.
Speaker 9 (02:27:27):
If you have them at eighty percent, I won't even
go fall one hundred percent. If he's at eighty percent
and Joe Mixon misses one game, it's not.
Speaker 6 (02:27:35):
The end of the world.
Speaker 2 (02:27:36):
My goal is to make Cleveland fans as sick as
possible by the end of the year.
Speaker 6 (02:27:39):
What else do we have?
Speaker 9 (02:27:40):
So Joe Mixon and Nick Chubb both came from a
certain state.
Speaker 6 (02:27:45):
What state is that? Ohio? Yeah, and that's where.
Speaker 9 (02:27:48):
We're gonna go next, because that's where the road ends
for Lee Corso. We are the home of the Texas Longhorns,
who will play against Ohio State week one of the
college football season at Shoe in Columbus, and that will
be the final moment of League Corso's historic career. On
ESPN's College Game Day, officially announcing that they will be
(02:28:09):
making the trip up to Columbus for the matchup between
the SEC and the Big Ten where it all began.
In nineteen ninety six, Corso's famous edgear was put on
the Brutus Buckeye head in Columbus, Ohio over Penn State.
I'll have an opportunity to close out his career by
putting Brutus on one more time over the Long Horns,
or kind of go ahead and say, hey Texas, welcome
(02:28:31):
to the SEC, Welcome back to the world of college
football dominance.
Speaker 6 (02:28:34):
I feel like he is going to put the Buckey
head on and then take it off. That's my thought.
Put Bevio up top. Yeah, that's that's a no brainer.
We'll see. It's the There are a lot of good
matchups all season long. Every college football season has it.
In terms of non conference scheduled regular season games, there'll
(02:28:58):
be plenty of exciting ones with very very good teams.
My hope is this is also an exciting one.
Speaker 2 (02:29:02):
But on paper, I don't think there's a game on
the schedule that can beat it.
Speaker 6 (02:29:08):
Now, wait, week one, No, the whole season.
Speaker 9 (02:29:12):
I mean week one, there's a one thousand percent game
that will beat that.
Speaker 6 (02:29:15):
No, not on paper, there's nope. In my opinion. When
I could sit here and say, these could end up
as the same two teams playing in the final four
of the playoffs or the end of the playoffs. I
don't think there's going to be a better paper matchup.
I don't know what the game is going to be like,
but you know, it's as good as it's as good
as you can get, right better, as I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (02:29:35):
I am fascinated to see how much Like we talked
to We talked to Josh Hater earlier this season about
the pressure that and he admitted it might have played
a factor into his first year and just not being
because he's electric this year.
Speaker 6 (02:29:49):
He looks like the guy that the Astros thought they
were getting.
Speaker 2 (02:29:51):
I do wonder if Arch will put that kind of
pressure on himself.
Speaker 6 (02:29:55):
I wonder too, And then I think, well, just like Hater,
it's his second year, he's going to be awesome. Yeah,
but he's starting for the first year this time around.
I don't see a difference at all. It's the same,
totally the same. All of the workload he got last year,
same as he's gonna get this year.
Speaker 2 (02:30:11):
It's gonna do the roster that surrounds him, that's gonna
way more.
Speaker 6 (02:30:14):
Guess where the biggest question marks are on the Texas
Longhorns roster.
Speaker 2 (02:30:18):
The offensive line undoubtedly where the Texans drafted none of
their guys.
Speaker 6 (02:30:22):
They had quite a few players drafted, just not to
this team. All right, that's an awesome stop for college
game day. Quite obviously, what else do we have?
Speaker 9 (02:30:30):
So I might as well make you make me a
graphic or a headliner because if I'm just gonna stay
in the state of Ohio to talk more about another
Formula Texas player. Because of Texas A and M defensive
end and first round pick Shamar Stewart is joining Trey
Hendrickson by holding out until he gets a new contract.
This has been something going on since Mini Caamp. His
(02:30:52):
contractual negotiations. By the language of the deal is forcing
him by his agents to sit on out When when
he could return, he said, I have no idea.
Speaker 6 (02:31:04):
I don't really know now.
Speaker 9 (02:31:05):
He is still expected to sign his contract at some point,
but he wants more guaranteed money when it comes to
his injury settlement after playing in the SEC. Keep in
mind this is also a player that's coming off of
four career sacks during his four years in college station.
Speaker 6 (02:31:20):
Keep in mind this he's never really truly been a
teammate of Trey Hendrickson, and he's doing him a big
fat solid by taking the attention away from the fact
that one of the five most disruptive lineman edge rushers
in the NFL is not there, is not likely going
to be there, and they've completely botched it. Now He's
(02:31:41):
not the only one holding out at his position now.
TJ Watt doing the same thing in Pittsburgh. That was
what I was going to go to as well.
Speaker 9 (02:31:49):
TJ Watt looking for a brand new contract. He is
also holding out of mini camp right now, trying to
get the next highest paid deal, especially after Miles Garrett
became the highest paid non quarterback in NFL.
Speaker 6 (02:32:04):
History this offseason.
Speaker 9 (02:32:05):
Much like with Miles Garrett, these are the two players
that every single year you expect to be the front
runners for Defensive Player of the Year.
Speaker 6 (02:32:11):
Yeah, Will Anderson being a part of say that three
person group at the top of edge rushers being disrupted,
creating turnovers, doing the things that those players are paid
to do, be awesome if you absolutely fit in with
that group this season. Quite honestly, he could be better
than Trey Hendrickson. We don't even know where he's going
to play this upcoming season. Another segment here with us
a little bit more on the text and some things
(02:32:31):
that we have not said. Also, in case you missed it,
we'll do that from practice coming up.
Speaker 3 (02:32:36):
Next the A team on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 6 (02:32:45):
Before we give away our concert tickets.
Speaker 2 (02:32:47):
The late great Bill Walton would be laughing if he
could read this tweet from Shane Young Brian Gregory on
hiring Jordan Aunt.
Speaker 3 (02:32:58):
Quote.
Speaker 2 (02:32:58):
Our fans deserve the very best and that's what's standing
in front of you today. End of quote. What a
hilarious quote. He doesn't mean that. He doesn't even believe that.
Speaker 6 (02:33:10):
Who's Jordan ought for our listeners that don't.
Speaker 2 (02:33:12):
Know, Oh, he's uh, he's the new head coach of
the Phoenix Suns, as signed off upon by I will
not be traded Devin Booker.
Speaker 6 (02:33:21):
He was especially to the Rockets, he was involved. I mean,
this is you know what's funny about that story.
Speaker 2 (02:33:26):
You know the first thing I thought, as a Rockets
backer and employee as it were, Remember who signed off
on Steven Silas's hiring at the time, both James Harden
and Russell Westbrook, who were promptly shipped out of town
one before the season and won a few games in
after he put on his fat suit.
Speaker 6 (02:33:45):
Well oiled machine in concert with one another.
Speaker 2 (02:33:49):
The Suns are about to become the nineties Clippers. That's
what I feel right now. All right, what else you
got for the people? Oh yeah, concert tickets? So we've
been talking about this all week seeing his out Tuesday,
and we've got a pair of tickets to see.
Speaker 6 (02:34:04):
Or is there two pair? Cole? I'm sorry, are we
giving away too?
Speaker 2 (02:34:07):
It's at your choice. Would you like to let's give
away two pair? I'm feeling generous. Two pair of tickets
to see lol Wayne. The Carter six North American Tour,
built on twenty plus years of Carter classics, by the way,
September eighteenth at the Woodlands Pavilion. Tickets are on sale
now at ticketmaster dot com. It's very easy, and the
(02:34:28):
answer is not. Craig Kimberl. Earlier in the show, I
made a very specific bet with my co host that
Lance mccullors Junior will have a career high strikeout total
tonight at home against the Chicago White Sox. My co host,
of course, said he's terrible. There's no way that's happening.
Speaker 6 (02:34:50):
That's that's what she said, right, that was the quote. Anyway, Hey, Lance,
I didn't I didn't say that he knows.
Speaker 2 (02:34:58):
So I said, if I if he gets that strikeout total,
Wex has to bring in a very specific item for
me tomorrow. I'll even give you a hint. It's a box,
but we need specifics. You can't just go all willy
nilly with the product name.
Speaker 6 (02:35:16):
They're the preteen item of something. There you go.
Speaker 2 (02:35:18):
But it's the type of these and there's a very
very very seminal holiday coming up. There's your hint. If
you don't get it now, you just weren't listening. Seven one, three, two, two, five,
seven ninety two of you guys getting a pair of
those tickets to see what's his real name again, Dwayne Carter? Okay, junior,
lill Wayne. You always get the juniors in there, all right?
(02:35:41):
In all seriousness, Lance should rack up tonight.
Speaker 6 (02:35:45):
Well, get some runs too. You don't need to pit
a few.
Speaker 2 (02:35:48):
You need one run to beat this team. You need
one run. I very firmly believe we did.
Speaker 6 (02:35:53):
Unfortunately, note the White Sox have been playing better baseball lately.
Speaker 2 (02:35:57):
By the way, if he gets thirteen strikeouts. You're only
gonna need one run because they ain't doing anything.
Speaker 6 (02:36:02):
That's probably well, he might go super big time strikeout
artist and give up a solo homer while he's punching
everybody out.
Speaker 2 (02:36:09):
I told you guys, he hates Lance. You can tell no,
I don't rooting against him. You can tell I could do.
Speaker 6 (02:36:16):
It was in his eyes. Did you hear the way
he said that you just don't want to pay up
on the bet. I don't mind. I can afford it.
I'm lucky enough to be in a position to aford
afford the item at play. I guess you're gonna slip
and say it.
Speaker 2 (02:36:29):
No, you could actually say the name of the product
and it still wouldn't be the correct answer.
Speaker 9 (02:36:34):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (02:36:34):
Yeah, you could probably put a stamp on that. Look
at the phone lines, they think they want to see, Dwayne.
How many winners do we have? We'll see, all right,
we're only giving away two pair I did. There were
a couple other things I just wanted to run through
before we have another mini camp practice to get through tomorrow. Uh.
There was a really nice play made by Jaden Higgins
(02:36:55):
at the corner of the end zone. We mentioned that
earlier Lassner was the defender. He was right there. Great
play made by the receiver. There's another great catch that
wasn't from Jared Wayne. Really good pass, really great route,
really great catch in the end zone, and then it
wasn't because Kamari Lasterer basically muscled it away from Wayne.
(02:37:17):
And with the group that they have out there now,
he's getting a lot of looks here at this point
in camp with works talking about Jared. He did talk
to Calen Bullock after practice and I asked him, as
anything really different this year as you're both second year
guys as opposed to first year guys. No, Me and
Kamari were joined at the hip, love working together, learning together,
and No, two players from two different universities have become
(02:37:42):
as strong a connection, as big a friends as they
are I've ever seen on a football team than what
that duo is. Lasterer was involved in a couple of
plays today that, again, I think, show you why nothing
about last year, in my opinion, was flucish. You know
the PFF numbers that make them look like the best
cornerback duo in the NFL. They match the eyeballs we
(02:38:04):
watched them play last year. We watched their postseason last
year and what Lassiter did in the Charger game in
his first ever postseason game. I think it's just more
evidence of what can be done as they're probably better.
Little comment about CJ. Gardner Johnson because he was there,
Daniel Hunter was there, a couple of the players that
have clearly been at the facility throughout this time or
(02:38:26):
were not a health issue. It's voluntary. You don't have
to participate in OTAs and they chose not to. Daneil
Hunter looked every bit the player he's been since he's
been a Texan and honestly in the NFL. CJ. Gardner
Johnson not taking full reps with the Ones today but
did get some of the reps there.
Speaker 7 (02:38:42):
M J.
Speaker 6 (02:38:42):
Stewart otherwise has been your other top safety because Jimmy
Ward is not practicing. It's pretty much the same group
of players that were not practicing last week but aren't
attending and working out on the side fields or whatever
it is that they are doing to be prepared for
the season. That hasn't changed a whole heck of a lot.
Those two players probably worth noting that we're out there.
(02:39:02):
Jalen Knowle, the other rookie wide receiver they drafted like
late in last week's OTAs. He was not a participant
in today's mini camp, though he was there, and it
looks like whatever the reason is for holding him out
is not of great concern. Of that duo you mentioned.
Who has the bigger leap in year two, I guess
(02:39:25):
it's block because I think more of his game can
be better, even though the big plays were clearly there.
I mean, he could have had a seven interception season
pretty much, very easily last year, and it's hard to
duplicate that figure. But being in the right place, reading
plays a little bit sooner, making a little bit more
difficult for the defense. Because the position he plays, sometimes
(02:39:47):
you get caught where, man, I'm just gonna go for
it here, I think that's where the ball's going and
I'm gonna make Well, then it didn't and this happens,
and he was involved in some of the very unfortunate
Travis Kelce plays in their postseason game where a player
that wasn't very good had a very very good game
against them. There's areas for him to get better, I think,
more so than maybe last last year. I think the
(02:40:08):
areas for him to get better he did that first
few weeks of the season, there were some things that
weren't quite there. He kind of got lucky that you
played Anthony Richardson in the opening week because Lasterer got
beat multiple times, and then Richardson threw a terrible pass,
which is what he always does, so there was no
harm on it. It just wasn't the kind of play he'd
want to see made. So I probably would say Bullock,
(02:40:30):
but they're both what they did in last year's draft.
From that group, the number one edge rushing duo in
the NFL, number one secondary in the NFL. That's seven
elevenths of your defense.
Speaker 2 (02:40:42):
These six to three wins are gonna be awesome this year.
Like I said all off season long, congrats to Michael
and Jonathan who knew that I wanted to a American
flags printed all over my cheese. It's tomorrow after Lance
McCullers Junior has twenty strikeouts like Carrie would before he
got fat.
Speaker 6 (02:41:00):
These things top that baby. Part of tomorrow's show, the
on Deck Show from the Ballpark, It's next Believe
Speaker 1 (02:41:07):
Us the eighteen on Sports Talk seven ninety
