Speaker 3 (00:30):
Adam Clinton and Adam Wexler are the AEAM.
Speaker 4 (00:51):
What's Up Houston? It is a Thursday edition of the
A Team Sports Talk seven ninety About an hour from now,
we'll be on TV if you want to feel with
us over on Space City Home Network, But in the
meantime we will take you up until six o'clock tonight.
Wex over there ac right here. Cole Thompson is our
fearless producer on a Thursday, as we lead you into
(01:13):
what is increasingly looking like a Cooper Rush led Ravens offense.
And by that, I mean it's just not going to
be the same. We talked about this a lot yesterday
and primarily I know wex keeps saying, worry about what
you can do. He says that about all the teams.
By the way, it's a recurring theme on the show.
(01:33):
But I really do feel like when it comes to
the Texans defense, that's absolutely gonna be a situation where
they can. I'm saying they necessarily will, but they can
feast if indeed it's Cooper Rush, if indeed some of
these other injuries that the Ravens are dealing with on
their defensive side of the football playing of things, and
(01:53):
it could be a nice Sunday afternoon in Baltimore. But
I feel like increasingly as that's coming kind of a
narrative that's being thrown out there, I feel like every
time this happens with the Texans, it just goes horrifically
the wrong way. And I'm telling you right now, wex
if we come in here on Monday and Cooper Rush
has somehow lit up the Texans because of bizarro world reasons,
(02:14):
won't and we won't. Don't. Why do you know that?
Because this is why this is never Ryan Fitzpatrick, way
back in the day, you answered your own question. There's
other quarterbacks that have done a back in the day,
just like all these pitchers that here's what had bloated
eras and they feasted on the Astros. Yes, this is
a Houston thing. No, it's not a Houston things. Not.
Speaker 5 (02:32):
Here's what the Texans have done this year four games in,
this is Game five let's say Cooper rushes out there
with the Baltimore Ravens offense, and as you said, it's
almost given at this point. The Ravens have already practiced today.
Lamar Jackson did not practice today. Even I would be
shocked if he was participating in their walk through tomorrow.
So he'll probably still not be listed as out when
Friday's injury report comes out, but it's possible he will be.
(02:55):
The likelihood is he won't play, and there even was
an additional reporter. I don't know if he and rap
report will crap on report like he crapped on the
Baltimore Suns report earlier in the week. But we'll see
Jusina Anderson saying exactly what the Sun said earlier in
the week that he's gonna miss this week. In fact
that their off week comes in two weeks. You set
him next week two and all of a sudden, he's got,
you know, twenty plus days to try to get over
a hamstring injury that could impact him the rest of
(03:16):
the season. And it's pretty obvious they need him more
than ever later in the season because they're in a
very bad spot, a spot they've never been in before.
They've barely lost any games with Lamar Jackson in the
regular season as their starting quarterback. Their record since he
has come aboard and took over for Joe Flacco is
incredible in the regular season, and this is the first
time it really has not been And certainly the kind
(03:36):
of start they've gotten off to is a little troubling,
but from the Texans perspective, So it's a Cooper Rush
led offense, Baltimore Ravens personnel around him, and you mentioned
all the injuries defensively, but we'll focus on their offense
only here in Game five. Cooper Rush leading the Baltimore
Ravens offense slots in right in the middle of the
five offenses they will have faced this year. First two
(03:58):
weeks they played the Ram Stafford and they played the
Bucks and Mayfield. Those are the two best quarterbacks they've
seen and the two best offenses they've been up against.
Give up fourteen points to the Rams, gave up twenty
points to the Bucks. The following two weeks, they played
Trevor Lawrence and the Jags offense and Cam Ward and
another Jag offense. But they're the Titans and they stink,
(04:20):
and Cooper Rush and the Ravens slot right in the middle.
First two weeks you played the best two. Last two
weeks you played the worst two and Cooper Rush and
the Ravens aren't worse than the Titans, they aren't worse
than the Jaguars. They're right in the middle of the
four offenses you face so far this season. In my opinion,
and based on a lot of what we've seen this year,
they clearly have something that none of the four offenses doing.
(04:42):
Derrick Henry up to them to start to use him,
and a lot of people finally, they must have been
listening to the A team have picked up on the
fact that the Ravens are play calling rather interestingly this year,
and that's the nicest way to say they're being dumb.
And they probably will figure it out by the time
the Texans game rolls around, because they're not gonna play
with Lamar Jackson. You don't have the best rushing team
(05:05):
in the NFL and then stop handing the ball off, Well,
you do if you're the Ravens. For four weeks, that's
what they've done. They don't run on early downs, they
don't feed Derrick Henry, and now their offense is different.
I'm not gonna sit here and lie to you and
say they can't score, because they can. They're one of
the highest scoring teams in the NFL. But I don't
think they've been doing the things the way that they
(05:26):
should or the way that they're at their best, And
they won't be at their best this week either, But
a little bit different matchup for them, because I do
think their play calling will be quite a bit different
with Lamar Jackson not out there, not having to account
for him. But do not tell the Texans that, not
until Sunday at around three forty five when they meet
with the media after they beat the Ravens, because all
(05:47):
week this week, yesterday was Demiko's turn. Today it was
Matt Burk's turn, you know, the play caller for the
Texans defense, and we will hear from him coming up
in just a little bit. He's addressed to the media.
It was just getting finished with that and we hit
the airwaves here and just like Demiko said, yeah, yesterday,
at least as they're saying it publicly and we can't
say anything about it because we don't get to see practice.
They're preparing, like Lamar Jackson is going to play which
(06:09):
is obviously the smart thing to do. Much more difficult
to prepare for him than prepare for his backup, who,
quite honestly, for the Texans, well, they just saw him.
They saw him a couple months ago when he threw
fifty five passes for the Dallas Cowboys when the Texans
beat them. Texans have something that very few other teams
that have in their back pocket going up against Cooper Rush.
They're one of the five teams that Cooper Rush has
(06:30):
lost to when starting a game at the NFL level
nine and five as a starter for the Cowboys of
the past three season. One of those five losing to Damiko,
Matt Burke, CJ. Stroud in the Houston Texans.
Speaker 4 (06:42):
And you are just one hundred percent guaranteeing that it's
going to happen again.
Speaker 5 (06:47):
I think there's a pretty good chance that Texans will
actually figure things out a little bit more like we
talked about yesterday. Offensively, again, I'm not telling you they're
going to have twenty seven points, like more than they
just scored against the Titans. But I do think that
there's going to be a different looking, a better looking offense,
an offense that looks like more like they know what
they're doing, not one hundred percent on their drives, not
driving into the red zone constantly, not even succeeding in
(07:08):
the red zone constantly. But you know, far fewer gosh man,
get it together offense. I think we'll be pushing further
away from the get it together offense commentary, which quite honestly,
we were still in for three quarters of last week's game,
because at some point the scoreboard is still what matters most.
They actually did things much better in certain areas offensively
(07:30):
through the first three quarters against the Titans, but you
got six points on the board and no touchdowns. I
think kind of have to throw some of it out
the wind and say, you gotta score some points.
Speaker 4 (07:38):
I think that's the interesting or one of the more
interesting aspects of last week's game. From from our show standpoint,
we didn't really talk about that at all. I mean
we did a little bit, but because they did have
the fourth quarter that they did, because you were feeling
good because they finally got in the win column. I
feel like in that I kind of alluded to this yesterday,
(08:01):
like having a quote good offensive output put against a
terrible Titans team and then somehow figuring it out on
the road against a Baltimore team that doesn't feature Lamar Jackson.
I mean, if the Texans do win put it this way,
it's gonna be interesting to see how they do win
if they do put it together. I don't think you
(08:22):
can have three quarters like they did against the Titans
and expect to pull that out the way they did,
even with Cooper Rush as the quarterback. I don't think
that's gonna work. That formula is not playing this week.
It can because the same thing could happen. Just keep
the score a loan and get it together in the
fourth doubter de shows up. Yeah, that's the thing.
Speaker 5 (08:37):
We keep talking about the team they played or the
team they are. It's really not the way it is
in the NFL anymore. The Texans defense is playing the
Ravens offense. The Ravens defense playing the Texans offense, just
like last week, like of course you were gonna be.
The Texans offense could have punted for three quarters. Literally
taking the ball and punted on first down would have
hurt their defense a little bit because they would have
(08:57):
been on the field so much. But where were the
Titans gonna go on the scoreboard nowhere. They weren't ever
gonna put the game away. They weren't ever gonna run
away with things. And I'm not forecasting a Ravens team
capable of doing that without Lamar Jackson out there. That
could be wrong on my part, But you just need
to you need to follow through on some of the
partial success on your drives, and that's where they kind
(09:19):
of missed out last week. They weren't playing, like I said,
I don't think they were playing so poorly offensively. I mean,
you opened the game with two eleven play drives, but
you got kryptonite once you saw the twenty yard line
and you couldn't get into the red zone and you
had to settle for field goal attempts. You missed the
field goal attempt, you know, obviously right out of the
gate in the third quarter, but you had the ball
(09:39):
eight times before you kneeled on it. Essentially at the
end of the game. They didn't technically kneel, but they
didn't try to do anything. So your first eight possessions,
you went into Tennessee territory on the first one, the
second one, the third one, the fourth one, the fifth one,
the sixth one, and the seventh one. The only one
you didn't drive into Tennessee territory with was when you
got to your own forty seven yard line and ultimately
punished your only three and out the entire game. If
(10:02):
you're not having three and outs, if you're constantly moving
the football a first down to two first downs, three, whatever,
you're putting your defense in a great position. Regardless of
the scoreboard and potential, presumably all those trips into the
other team's territory is netting you points. They tried three
field goals and they scored three touchdowns on the seven drives.
That's winning football. It just all happened at the end
(10:23):
of the game. The touchdowns.
Speaker 4 (10:25):
Yeah, I mean what you're saying. As far as if
it happens that way again, I guess you know.
Speaker 5 (10:30):
Like if Baltimore and Cooper Rush have to drive ninety
yards eighty five yards constantly, Tennessee started to drive at
the ten, to drive at the fourteen, to drive at
the two, drive at the twenty two, and drive it
the twenty three. It was all game long, full field
in front of them. That usually is winning football.
Speaker 4 (10:47):
I am gonna be fascinated to see what Derrick Henry
is this weekend he'll have his second best game of
the year.
Speaker 5 (10:54):
Well, okay, it's all relative, though, if you've been listening
to the A team all week, you'll know that doesn't
mean a whole lot. Do you know what his second
best output of the year would be like? He was
awesome in Week one against the Bills, great, had a
couple of very long runs, had two touchdowns, had one
hundred and sixty nine yards. If he can muster fifty
one yards against the Texans, that'll be his second best
(11:15):
output of the season. He's had no other games over
fifty yards the three weeks that have followed.
Speaker 4 (11:20):
Don I know this as he sits there as one
of my starting running backs on my fantasy team. Yeah,
but it's it's not owned. They didn't give him the ball, right,
and they did really didn't last.
Speaker 5 (11:31):
He averaged ten point three carries a week the last
three weeks. I mean, I'll look it up because we
have another three hours and forty seven minutes. There might
not be another stretch his entire career where he had
only thirty one carries in a three week stretch when
fully healthy.
Speaker 4 (11:46):
Did it finally happen? What did he hit the wall? No,
it was. I told you this right out of the gag.
We're already ten minutes in. I'll say it again. They
are dumb because they're scoring so many points. Lamar's gotten
off to such an incredible start. I think it's hurt.
What are the Textas do to help their defense?
Speaker 5 (12:01):
Last week they kept him on the bench because they
ate up the clock for thirty eight minutes. The Ravens
have been scoring so much and passing so much. They're
scoring plenty, but their defense, who stinks, has been out
on the field a ton, and they're getting worse because
they're getting even more unhealthy. In advance of the Texans game,
we'll get to what else is wrong with the Ravens
health wise, and hopefully what's good news for the Texans
(12:22):
health wise, And definitely good news and as expected, if
you're out for rest on a Wednesday, you're gonna be
back on the practice field on Thursday. That was the
case for Will Anderson Junior and Derrick Stingley Junior. Seeing
the field today, I'm sure he'll be listed as limited
on the injury report. Indicates just like last week, they're
gonna take it easy on him, get him as healthy
as possible and see if he can manage to stay
(12:42):
healthy for about three hours on Sunday afternoon, and then
we'll have two weeks before they play their next game.
Very much expected that both Derek Stingley Junior and Will
Anderson Junior will be out there on Sunday for the
Texans based on their appearance at Thursday's most important practice
of the week. Got to get to a few other things,
of course, and we got plenty of time to get there.
We'll hit our signature segment at four point thirty on
(13:05):
a Thursday, What's up with that? Obviously football at five
at five o'clock. No other football will be discussed at
any other point on the show except most every segment.
The last three games of the respective wildcard series will
be played today, one of which is already underway.
Speaker 4 (13:20):
One team is already advanced.
Speaker 5 (13:22):
We'll get into a little bit of that and really
some of the questions that still remain as other teams
start getting into their offseason, where the Astros, unfortunately, are
some thoughts on answering some of the astros own questions.
Early on a Thursday edition of The eighteen.
Speaker 2 (13:39):
The eighteen on Sports Talk seven.
Speaker 4 (13:41):
Ninety brief mentioned that all the wild Card series that
are in effect today are do or die situations best
of three that they are, and they're all tied up
and Thes and Guardians are scoreless. In that outing. I
(14:03):
mentioned yesterday that Jack Flaherty today's starter for the Tigers.
He's kind of a jerk. I don't know if you
guys knew this or were aware. Actually, both WEX and
I are familiar with one of the camera people that
is doing the games in Detroit and or in Cleveland,
(14:24):
i should say, And apparently Jack Flaherty threw water at
this guy yesterday, like right in his face. So if
it sounds like I'm rooting against the Tigers today, I
absolutely am, since Jack Flaherty is a starter and a
lot of people I know are actually doing the same thing.
But we'll keep you updated on that. No score right now,
And yeah, there are two other series that will wind
(14:45):
up today one way or the other in the wildcard round. Meanwhile,
we were talking a lot about the Texans and the
Ravens coming up this weekend, and you mentioned WEX that
the Texans smartly will be preparing for the Ravens as
if Lamar Jackson will be playing and that's kind of
tough to do. And you hear about this all the time. Hey,
(15:09):
we need your offense for our defense to replicate what
this team's gonna do. It's kind of hard. We don't
have a stand in for the Lamar Jackson's or the
Pat Mahomes or the Josh Allens of the world.
Speaker 5 (15:20):
Pat Mahomes probably pretty easy, Josh Allen a little more difficult.
Texans should have it all covered for this guy, Lamar
just they have a third quarterback this year. It's Graham Mertz.
What's the big deal. I don't think they're the same.
He's on the Scout team. Of course, he's playing the
part of Lamar Jackson. He's like a dead replicating him. Yeah,
what's the difference. Lamar Jackson does what that Graham Mertz
(15:41):
can't do everything? Oh, that's true.
Speaker 4 (15:45):
Demiko Ryans was asked about that. This is cut nine
cole from from yesterday as as he you know, replicating
Lamar Jackson. Yea.
Speaker 5 (15:55):
He was asked by Johnson Alexander and you'll hear him say,
that's a good question.
Speaker 4 (15:58):
You know, well, who do you have, what do you
like to do? What do you have at your disposal?
Who's back there kind of replicating Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 6 (16:07):
We cannot replicate Lamar Jackson. I have no one here
that can help me. You want to come and help us, man,
you can get two guys. It's running in different directions now.
It's it's very difficult to replicate Lamar. That's a great question.
You try sometimes you try to put receivers or other
skill players at the quarterback position, but it's it's different
(16:30):
when you when you see Lamar on Sunday, as you see,
that's a bad man, all right, so you know nobody
can replicate him.
Speaker 4 (16:38):
He's a special.
Speaker 6 (16:38):
Player all in a league of his own, so we
don't even try to replicate him.
Speaker 4 (16:44):
I am curious. How was the question phrased? Did you
just say how do you replicate Lamar Jackson? Not?
Speaker 5 (16:49):
No, That's what I was describing is more of the
manner in which Jonathan asked it. A couple more words
about what do you what do you want to see?
What kind of person? What do you how do you
replicate that in a practice setting? And what are you
guys doing with that? So that's why he immediately said
in laught week and not replicate Lamar j X, I mean,
you can if you're CJ.
Speaker 4 (17:06):
Stroud and you're about to go up against a fierce
pass rush, well, if you have one, it's a that's
a little bit easier to replicate. Hey, we're gonna send
Will Anderson Junior and you know Daniel Hunter.
Speaker 5 (17:17):
What you do in training camp is great work for
the offensive line. You know, if they can't stop Will
Anderson and Daniel Hunter for six weeks prior to the season,
they're probably gonna have a tough time stopping Jared Versu
and the Rams and so on and so on and
so on. And then when they're working against the Scout
Team Ravens, the offensive line, Yeah, you are replicating what
they do and how they line up. It's you can
do that, but you're really not again going full board.
(17:40):
It's more about, you know, how do they line up
offensively when your defense is going up against the Scout
Team Ravens. You know, you know, I heard that question
yesterday when he asked it. Before I heard Demico's answer,
which was much better than I expected it to be.
It was awesome. I was trying to answer myself. I
was thinking about it long before the question was asked.
We go through this every time you play Lamar Jackson,
(18:01):
Texans have a different roster every year. And if I
was really trying to replicate Lamar Jackson with the players
they have, remember they've got a fifty three man roster,
they got a sixteen player practice squad, and they have
a handful of coaches or coaching assistants that are former
players or very good athletes or young and so these
(18:22):
are who they would be choosing from to replicate Lamar Jackson.
And I think if I were actually trying to figure
out who it was, I probably would have picked Jalen Nole,
little bit, smaller person, and I'm not sure about his
throwing ability, which you really don't need, but his elusiveness,
his quick twitch, his ability to shake free of an
(18:43):
oncoming defender, which we unfortunately have seen a ton of
as a returner and almost none of as an offensive player,
and I sure hope that changes at some point. That's
probably who you have back there, because somebody's there. Like
he said, we don't have anybody to replicate it. But
it's not like they are running against these SCIS Team
Ravens all week with just ten guys out there, and
they're snapping to a Ghost. There is actually somebody back there,
(19:05):
we just still don't know who it is.
Speaker 4 (19:07):
Do you think the Ravens are trying to replicate the
Texans pass rush and secondary and everybody else that's so
awesome on defense for them.
Speaker 5 (19:12):
Yeah, they're running out of players to do that. It
was another bad week or bad day for who was
on the field practicing. Looks like Kyle Hamilton, they're all
pro safety, is going backwards in terms of his practice participation,
which certainly doesn't bode well for Sunday. We won't really
again have anything definitive on most of their other players,
including Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 4 (19:32):
But Nate Wiggins was at practice today.
Speaker 5 (19:34):
How that factors into whether or not he's available on Sunday,
It's obviously remains to be seen. Rokwan Smith, there's so
many names to consider. Stanley was back practicing, but again
in what capacity and how does that impact their offense?
We won't know replicating what the Texans have, And now
that you're four weeks into the season, some of the
statistics you might see beyond the obvious Daniel Hunters he
(19:55):
having a good season.
Speaker 4 (19:56):
Well, I'm not really that I don't really want to
look into it. Too far.
Speaker 5 (20:00):
Oh, yes, four, Sex, he's having a great year. What
about Will Anderson, We's got three. I guess they're both
having a great year, which is actually true, but that's
not really the reason why. And when you start looking
at some of the total pressures, you know, pressures generated
without additional players, like the Texans have a four men front,
so pressures created without bringing a fifth or sixth defender.
(20:22):
You know, the Texans are so high up on that list.
It boats very very well for them. If as long
as they stay rush with their integrity on their rushes,
which matters a little bit less against Cooper Rush than
it would against Lamar Jackson, then I think they're in
for a typically good day. Like Matt Stafford was affected
the least by the Texans rush in the past game,
(20:44):
Baker Mayfield was affected a little bit less because he
was able to take advantage of it by running, which
Matt Stafford obviously didn't do. The passing game and day
for Jacksonville was pretty much awful until the last drive,
the last completion of the game, basically the pass and
receipt for a Brian Thomas junior, by the way, the
last pass play on the field. This entire season and
(21:06):
for the rest of all of our lives that CJ.
Gardner Johnson was on the field for. And then obviously
the Titans did absolutely nothing in the pass game against
the Texans. Again, all these things are trending in the
right direction for the type of offense I think we'll
see sans Jackson. Raven's passing game, by the way, has
been elite, but I think it's because of Lamar, not
because they run an elite passing attack.
Speaker 4 (21:29):
Yeah, and you know what's funny. We always talk about
him using his legs to, you know, for his escapability,
but he might And I could be wrong on this
because I haven't looked into the numbers between him and Mahomes.
Who do you think gets the pass off more on
the run successfully? In other words, you think Lamar is
gonna take off, but he can actually fling it right
(21:51):
before he gets to the line of scrimmage, after he's
escaped the pocket in the inevitable pass rush like Mahomes,
I think gets highlighted more for it because it looks.
Speaker 5 (22:01):
Worse and then you see something spectacular. Yeah, you're like, God,
I wish I could do that. When Mahomes does, You're like,
how did he do that? Maybe because it's more hirky
jerky than Mahomes does it totally. There's a little shovel
pass that goes for like forty yards after the catch. Yeah,
the arm talent of both of them should be regarded
as elite, and I'm not sure that it ever is
(22:21):
for Lamar because he makes it look so easy.
Speaker 4 (22:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (22:24):
Like, I just saw a number today about arm strength,
which is basically a calculation of the velocity on your
passes of over twenty yards. You know, the ones that
you know, we pretend that on their their pro day
we're finding out what their arm strength is when they're
throwing against nobody. But in that sense, they're trying to gauge, well,
how easy is it and how good are you? How
skilled are you at making those throws? You know, because
(22:46):
of your velocity, And Lamar Jackson's not very high on
that list, but you actually have to watch the games
to kind of gauge that. C. J. Strouss not very
high on that list. I'm extremely unconcerned about both of
their arm strengths because I've watched them play football for
three years in one case than half a decade in
the other. Case, so it looks like they're good throwers
of the long ball. Does the ball go where it's
supposed to be, does it get there on time? Is
(23:06):
it easy for them to get it there? Yes, yes, yes, yes,
yes to every rhetorical question. I just what do you
happen to remember what dak was? I only ask take
a look, I've got to pull up here somewhere.
Speaker 4 (23:14):
I only ask because of the past that he completed
on the sideline, just shy the end zone late in
that overtime game the other night. I bet she's in
the top three, is my guest the top my head?
Just looking at that pass, it looked like you'd have
to be like super strong to get it off, especially
at the angle and as he was running and all
that kind of stuff.
Speaker 5 (23:31):
And again, the outside of the two lefties that will
start this week in the NFL Too and Dylan Gabriel,
I think most guys in the NFL have pretty awesome
arm strength and arm talent. I think two of those
those two guys are two of the worst. They're just
very accurate, very accurate. That's the only reason two is
in the league is because most of it's on short
(23:53):
throws or to Tyreek underneath. So look out, Dolphins. I
think things are gonna get worse for you. Duh without
Tyreek Hill.
Speaker 4 (24:00):
Best of X. Halfway through our number one that's next
the eighteen.
Speaker 1 (24:06):
On Sports Talk seven ninety did you all see this?
Speaker 3 (24:12):
We should be putting out between five and fifteen posts.
Speaker 4 (24:16):
Four hundred people were arrested for things that they said
on social media. History repeats itself, type and you'll succeed.
Never doubt that you're the one to pos for No
One building league. You're the best of X.
Speaker 2 (24:32):
Nothing's gonna ever talk.
Speaker 7 (24:33):
You know.
Speaker 4 (24:34):
You're the best of X. Posting every single day. You're
the best of X, breaking the entire internet, best of X.
Speaker 5 (24:49):
We have arrived there and now you still have to
wait twenty four more hours to hear that jingle again,
So I'm sure you're happy about that. We do have
some very very very important analysis to listen to the
way that you only get because the X platform exists
a lot of like we were talking about yesterday, with
a key to lead, we wouldn't normally have any reason
to seek it out, but we do live on social media,
(25:11):
so it's very easy to find things that are WOW.
And we have more of that, but wanted to pass
along a little note found on the ex platform earlier
today from someone we had on prior to the season
talking about college football in the state of Texas. Mike
Craven made this notes earlier on heading into the weekend
of college football. There's thirteen FBS teams in the state
of Texas. Eleven of them have games this weekend. So
(25:34):
eleven FBS teams in Texas are playing this weekend.
Speaker 4 (25:38):
Ten of them are favored.
Speaker 5 (25:41):
Might be matchup related, might be the fact that they're
pretty good, or they're having good seasons. The only one
that is not favored is playing another team in Texas,
so obviously one of them had to not be favored.
It actually happens to be the team right here in town.
Houston Cougars are not the favorite, as the undefeated Cougars
welcome in the undefeated Texas Tech Red Raiders and early
(26:02):
season Big twelve showdown certainly go a long way for
the Cougars to say we belong in the top portion
of this conference. In think Texas Tech after what they
have done earlier in this season, and certainly with their
win over Utah thinks they already belong there. But those
thirteen teams thirty seven to nineteen on the season, This
is for you. If you take out UTEP and SAM,
(26:24):
they're actually thirty six and eleven because those two teams
are one and eight. So essentially every team in Texas
is really good except for UTEP and SAM. Just wanting
to pass that note along here as we get into
the best of X. All right, let's jump up a level.
Let's head to the NFL. Who knows more about the
NFL than Beaumont's own NBA analyst Kendrick Perkins.
Speaker 4 (26:45):
I mean, this is exactly what you were talking about
either yesterday the day before. Just people have these platforms.
Speaker 5 (26:51):
And I went so far as to include people like Kendrick,
although I wasn't specifically mentioning him, because his platform has
been elevated from anywhere else to the loudest, largest platform.
He works for the most important and most well known
sports outlet in America.
Speaker 4 (27:10):
Let's just think about like, because we're talking about what
we're talking about, which is an NBA guy speaking with
in his opinion, some sort of authority on an NFL player.
Speaker 5 (27:22):
So who's on this We're grabbing this sound from Kendrick
who's he hanging out with on this for this performance.
Speaker 4 (27:26):
Honestly, I can't even remember now that i'm thinking about it.
Oh yeah, that's right, yeh, Texans Dwayne Brown back in
the day. But I was gonna say, like Stephen A.
Smith is the biggest name at the worldwide Leader now yeh.
He's part of a hostless program right now. And he
started as what a sixers beat writer for the Philadelphia Inquirer, right.
Speaker 5 (27:49):
But in an age where that's as loud as your
voice could be. If you work for the newspaper and
you're a beat writer a columnist, you have the loudest
voice in America. There was no yeah, there wasn't all
this other stuff.
Speaker 4 (28:00):
I'm just saying, he's now touches on all sorts of
topics badly a lot of times.
Speaker 5 (28:06):
Well he touches on all sorts of topics that have
nothing to do with sports.
Speaker 4 (28:09):
Now, well that yeah, But I was just talking about,
you know, his sports acumen or whatever you call it.
But that's not out of the ordinary for so much
to branch out. But that's what that's what Park is
doing here. No, he's branching out.
Speaker 5 (28:21):
He will not be asked to join the set of
NFL Live or NFL County.
Speaker 4 (28:27):
That's for sure.
Speaker 5 (28:28):
With any takes. He's a basketball player. Absolutely, you're hitting
sitting here hanging out. We we have guests. We asked
him about any We have a very very well known
and respected baseball guest on a weekly basis. He almost
never finishes his interview without a football question being asked
of him by the hosts.
Speaker 4 (28:47):
Well, it's sometimes it's more of a snide remark more
than a question.
Speaker 5 (28:50):
Now, the question is fine, I ask it, you ask it.
Our questions are fine. I'm talking about when he just
volunte remark from it. Well, at the end of our
interviews with Channel, we usually ask him some SEC based
football question and he used to.
Speaker 4 (29:03):
Cover the SEC. But he also loves attending Rockets games.
Speaker 2 (29:07):
He does.
Speaker 4 (29:07):
He's all encompassing sports fan, but he's not sitting there
saying dumb stuff like, for example, this Kendrick Perkins is
already out. He's out on CJ. Stroud.
Speaker 8 (29:19):
Oh oh, CJ.
Speaker 2 (29:21):
Stroud.
Speaker 8 (29:23):
Is not it, Bro, He's not.
Speaker 4 (29:25):
It's not it.
Speaker 8 (29:26):
If you want to keep the real like he came out,
he had a great rik.
Speaker 9 (29:30):
You mean, what I'm saying is he's not there he's
not number two it. He's not number two pick. He's
not not what kind of it he's.
Speaker 8 (29:40):
Not that quarterback does go take the Texans and the
Texans fan base to the promised when he's not bro
and you know this, how much film y'all watch on
the quarterback?
Speaker 2 (29:52):
Enough of uh huh a lot?
Speaker 8 (29:54):
Right, So, from his rookie season until now, as he
went forward about okay, he holdo, he's regrets and the
thing that I'm watching about him, he still can't. He
still can't throw to his left side.
Speaker 4 (30:07):
That's a problem.
Speaker 8 (30:08):
He still don't know how to scan the field when
his first option is not deal. That's another problem. So
when I'm looking at it, is he your guy?
Speaker 4 (30:15):
No, he's not.
Speaker 5 (30:17):
You're We're gonna need that forever.
Speaker 4 (30:20):
He's not it.
Speaker 5 (30:21):
I assume that was a little keikey questioning him on
what it means, because it wasn't Dwayne unless he totally
changed his voice.
Speaker 4 (30:27):
Dwayne was barely participating.
Speaker 5 (30:30):
Yes, and Dwayne is also barely anywhere near the size
he used to be as a football player. Typically off
and good for he's much much healthier now, But he's
not it.
Speaker 4 (30:42):
That's sweet. All the rest of the stuff.
Speaker 5 (30:44):
He was challenging Dwayne I assumed the football player, how
much film do you guys watch?
Speaker 4 (30:49):
As in I do?
Speaker 5 (30:51):
And then he went on to explain because of how
much film I watch, he can't throw to his left,
he can't go through his progressions.
Speaker 4 (30:57):
Has he gone forward or has he regressed?
Speaker 7 (31:00):
So?
Speaker 4 (31:00):
Has he regrett he's regressed? I take it all back.
Speaker 5 (31:04):
Noted Every time from this point forward, when you grab
Kendrick Perkins audio, no matter what it's about, if it's
about the Rockets having no chance to win when they
fall to one and zero on opening night, if it's
about the thunder being a one and done when they
fall on opening night to Houston, whatever the case might be.
If he says, Lebron James is gonna win his nineteenth
MVP in his fifth ring this year, every single time
(31:25):
we play Kendrick Perkins audio from here forward, because we're
not regressing, We're pushing forward, noted an NFL expert. Kendrick
Perkins had the following to say, I will introduce him.
Speaker 4 (31:35):
Fustly Jameroud, is not it?
Speaker 1 (31:39):
Bro?
Speaker 5 (31:39):
I actually like the yeah, the SoundBite or the way
it started the very beginning when he kind of hiccup
there through the open I'm sure it was a time
of things to come. That's kind of the most Kendrick
Perkins thing about it.
Speaker 4 (31:51):
Look, CJ.
Speaker 5 (31:52):
Stroud has to play better so this stuff doesn't happen.
Speaker 4 (31:56):
And if CJ.
Speaker 5 (31:57):
Stroud doesn't play better, and it's not related to anything else,
it doesn't matter what the offensive line is like, it
doesn't matter about who he's throwing to. If he doesn't
play better football, then this is going to happen from
way too many people, whether they're noted NFL experts like
Kendrick Perkins or not. This is what a lot of
people will say. No matter what, they won't care about
(32:17):
any of the other things. They will just continue on
this path unless he plays better football.
Speaker 4 (32:23):
Got one more thing to kind of pull from this.
It's more about just NFL quarterbacks in general that I
want to bring up next segment, and we will get
you an update on the playoff game plus tonight's Thursday
night game back to your regularly scheduled slop for a
reason kind of out of the league's control, but we'll
(32:43):
touch on that as well when the three o'clock hour
gets underway. It's all coming up next on the eighteen,
the eighteen.
Speaker 1 (32:52):
On Sports Talk seven ninety it.
Speaker 4 (33:01):
Is the eight team Sports Sox seven to ninety one.
More thing from what noted NFL expert Kendrick Perkins had
to say about CJ. Stroud quote not being it, bro,
how many years did I'm just bringing this name up
as an example. How many years did Matthew Stafford play
in Detroit before he was traded to the Rams? All
of them? That was his only other stop? Yeah, but
(33:22):
how many seasons was it? Like it was a large
sample size.
Speaker 5 (33:26):
Yeah, he's been with the Rams now since twenty twenty two,
so this is year since twenty twenty one, so this
is your five first twelve years in Detroit.
Speaker 4 (33:33):
And he put up some decent numbers as a Lion.
Awesome numbers. Yeah, that's why he's just eclipsed to sixty
thousand yards passing mark amongst others. They were never a
threat to do anything ever. I mean, they made the
playoffs one time. So that's that's half the amount that
CJ has already made in year two in four games,
(33:54):
team game. Okay, but we're talking about CJ here, we're
talking about the quarterback situation, and it's all on him
to Kendrick, he ain't that guy. But no, no, no, let's
let's take it back to Stafford. Then.
Speaker 5 (34:04):
Do you think people in two thousand and eleven, after
he led the league in pass attempts and they went
ten and six, or after twenty twelve, his fourth year,
when he again led the league in pass attempts and
they went four and twelve, or the next year when
they went seven to nine, all of which included no postseason,
you think people were saying, Matt Stafford is it.
Speaker 4 (34:25):
What are they saying he was regressing?
Speaker 7 (34:27):
Well?
Speaker 5 (34:28):
He probably They probably would say he's regressing after he
went from forty one touchdowns to twenty in year three
to year fourth.
Speaker 4 (34:34):
Being he has a much larger sample size, and no
one thought he was going to lead the Lions to
the Promised Land at any time after like maybe Draft night. Never.
I mean you can say it now because he did
another team, but you look back on that, I remember
it completely. This is an empty stats guy. Lions aren't
gonna do bleep, That's yeah.
Speaker 5 (34:55):
I just I can't. I can't get on board with that.
Why because it's apples and oranges in mind opinion?
Speaker 4 (35:00):
You thought the Lions were a threat, it's not. You
can't be a threat if your team's no good. So
what so the difference here being it's actually CJ who's
not good and everybody else is good? Is it the
antithesis of those lions? Now, well, you're also you're not.
Speaker 5 (35:14):
I'm trying to take you back to the early portion
of Matt Stafford's career, not twelve years later, when okay,
he's it he won with the Rams.
Speaker 4 (35:21):
Is you can't.
Speaker 5 (35:22):
It's very hard to compare the two unless you're talking
about the same point in time. Now, comparing him to
Justin Herbert in year three and year four, and especially
since it's the same era, I could go for that.
And people are saying all the all the all the
positive things about oh, of course you can win with him.
Of course you can win with him, no matter how
many times, year after year after one, year after year,
you're not winning with him, right, And he got here's excuse.
(35:46):
Number one for him was oh my god, get this
daily guy out of here. Okay, we will and then what,
oh we'll make the playoffs? Yeah, will you win any games? Nope,
That's what they did last year. So there at some
point you'll run out of excuse. This is just so,
I mean, he's not it. That's dumb.
Speaker 4 (36:04):
We don't have to make three, right, we don't have
to make.
Speaker 7 (36:08):
Well.
Speaker 4 (36:08):
I just brought up Stafford because I remember his time
as a Lion's quarterback being that way. Like, yeah, I stats,
but they're never gonna expected to be doing anything.
Speaker 5 (36:17):
Guess what else Matt Stafford wasn't up against that C J.
Stroud and everybody else currently playing in the NFL is
he wasn't gonna They're not looking to move on ever never.
Atlanta Falcons weren't looking to move on from Matt Ryan
ever long before they finally made it to the super Bowl,
because that's how things were back then. Oh high pick,
he's our quarterback. He throws the ball, well, we get
a lot of yards. It's probably not his fault. There's
(36:39):
other problems with the team.
Speaker 4 (36:40):
Whatever. He's gonna be here year after year after year after.
Speaker 5 (36:43):
He's like Trevor Lawrence is like the only one that
seems to be in that bubble of he's just gonna
be here for ten years, no matter what. Everybody else
is like, oh my god, he's not it. Well, he's
only played thirty games. That's Okay, he's not it. Baker
Mayfield got he's not it. That's why he's made a
couple of stops. And now Anthony Richardson probably played himself
so poorly and that he's not it. But this is
(37:03):
a guy in his third season, third season, and it
is over.
Speaker 4 (37:07):
For him, who's won two playoff games.
Speaker 5 (37:09):
But nobody else really had, not nobody else, but very
infrequently during Matt Stafford's era, which is the late two
or the early two thousands, early ten to fifteen years ago,
you just had more of an opportunity. Plus, there's zero, zero,
zero people from the NBA talking about Matt Stafford in
(37:31):
twenty twelve.
Speaker 4 (37:32):
All right, for you, forget I brought up Matt Stafford.
Let's just go to Justin Herbert. Now that he doesn't
have a great offensive line in front of him, suddenly
he's not God's gift to quarterbacks. Well, it happened in
one game.
Speaker 5 (37:43):
Let's see what he's like when they properly accommodate for
having some issues.
Speaker 4 (37:48):
Well, let's see what CJ's like when they properly accommodate
for having some issues. Yeah, they have been screaming. Yeah,
but the people around him aren't doing their jobs well enough.
And I don't mean the players, I mean the coaches. Yeah,
let's see how the coaches gameplay. Four.
Speaker 5 (38:00):
When we need to give Hampton the ball more, we
need to leave another tight end for protection. Maybe we
need to throw the ball less. The Chargers haven't been
doing that this year. The Chargers put together a group
they thought our best path to winning because we believe
in Quentin Johnston. Now we have lad McConkie, We've brought
back Keenan Allen. We think we need to throw the
ball more and in this day and age in the
NFL kind of like Baltimore's doing. It can work until
(38:24):
it doesn't work because you have other issues that you
did not expect, which for them are they're original and
highly paid, recently extended left tackle and recently drafted right tackle.
Speaker 4 (38:35):
Well, they're not on the field for them.
Speaker 1 (38:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (38:37):
I mean, like a guy like Kendrick Perkins saying something
stupid about something he doesn't know what he's talking about.
Is so far down the list of things that just
drive me crazy about how CJ is covered.
Speaker 5 (38:47):
So I'm using that term lightly here, right, So now
take him out of it. We've taken Stafford out of it.
Now we'll take Kendrick out of it. Is it totally unreasonable, ridiculous, unfair,
laughable to question whether cut heading into his fifth start
of year three?
Speaker 4 (39:02):
Is it? Yeah, it's laughable. It's you can't do it.
I wouldn't. Well, you don't believe it.
Speaker 5 (39:08):
I'm saying, is it to actually bring the conversation up
to wonder if he is it or not.
Speaker 4 (39:13):
If it isn't, why isn't everybody else doing it? Because
I don't think you might have critiques about his career
so far or what he's like right now versus his
rookie year. But I don't see a lot of people
putting their neck on the line to say he ain't it.
He's got to go right, and he didn't put his
neck on the line at all. He's a basketball guy.
Well that's true. It's it's just an insane it's an
(39:35):
insane take it is. I just don't think the especially
with what he has shown, like you're just completely negating
all the good. But we won't do that. When we
switch over to the simulcast, we will start that next
We will start by giving you an update on that
Tigers Guardians game. And Yeah, tonight's Thursday night game leaves
a lot to be desired. Huge shock.
Speaker 2 (39:57):
The A Team on Sports Talk seven.
Speaker 1 (39:59):
Ninety two lifelong Houston sports guys named Adham talking your Team.
Speaker 3 (40:10):
Adam Clinton and Adam Wexler are the A Team.
Speaker 4 (40:19):
It is the A Team Sports Talks seven ninety and
now on Space City Home Network Thursday edition of the program.
Wex over there, Acre right here, and of course Cole
Thompson is our producer. We're taking you up until six
o'clock tonight. By the time we get to six o'clock,
one series will be in the books. Another one may
or may not be well on its way to being determined.
(40:41):
I don't know. San Diego in Chicago for Game three
of that Wildcard series starts at four o'clock Central, so
we shall see. And then the game tonight after the
stupid Yankees came back and won Boston and New York
from Yankee Stadium, or that one will get under wait
seven o'clock.
Speaker 5 (41:02):
Yeah, Yankees had the early lead with a two run
homer in the first got tied up, went ahead three
to two, and then it got tied up immediately again
at three when he scored the final run at the
bottom of the eighth inning to win it for to three,
and that's what made them need to play a game three.
As you said later on tonight, Padres got a nice
pitching effort yesterday, as usual from Dylan Cease. He almost
(41:24):
went four full innings, but he couldn't didn't give up
any runs, but obviously he couldn't get him twelve outs.
But you guys can keep wanting him to be at
a Houston astro all you want. So they're playing a
game three today and Longhorn fans will be happy to
know that the Detroit Tigers have taken a one nothing
lead with a run in the top of the third inning.
(41:44):
Longhorn softball great Lauren Burke's husband doubled in a run.
Speaker 4 (41:49):
Wow, even for you, that's impressive. Lauren Carpenter. Now carry
Carpenter's wife carry Carpenter another punchable face in that lineup.
Speaker 5 (41:58):
If he stay healthy, ever, he will be right next
to Riley Green in the future of why the Tigers
are going to be back again and again and again. Also,
since I mentioned Dylan Ce's probably worth noting the Cleveland
Indians manager the Tigers manager. If you're in the playoffs,
manager man do some wild, wild things with their pitchers.
(42:23):
In the first game of the Yankees Red Sox series,
people were correctly to Turo among them questioning Aaron Boone,
what are you doing well?
Speaker 4 (42:31):
He didn't say like that.
Speaker 5 (42:32):
Why would you take him out? Because your analytic nerds
told you to one hundred and two pitches, nobody on base,
one out in the seventh inning. That's it. Got to
get rid of Max Free. You've got to go to
my crappy bullpen, which I definitely can count on more.
And it was just hit after hit after hit, and
they obviously lost the game. In today I mentioned the
game yesterday Dylan cees he'd thrown sixty nine pitches nice.
(42:52):
They weren't really in trouble. It was three and two
thirds into his day. That's it for him. And in
this game today, Cleveland Indians who've gotten just the most
outrageous run of pitching ever. That's why they were so
good in September. It's the top of the third inning
and you know there's nothing on the board, yet you
give up a single, another single with one out, first
(43:12):
and third nothing nothing, game, third inning gone, get out
of here. Slade got to go to Tim Herron, who
promptly gives up the aforementioned double, which scores the current
only run of the game.
Speaker 4 (43:25):
Managers just have complete brain farts because the calendar has
flipped October, because I'm trying to think of anything, just
what they do.
Speaker 5 (43:31):
And you know, Matt and Ross were talking to Joe
Aspata and his last visit before the regular season ended,
so it was before their Wednesday, Thursday, Friday Saturday games
the final week, and they were talking to him about that,
and he just flat out said, yeah, you kind of
manage things differently. And he was also applying that to
the games they had left to play, because their playoff games,
you manage them a little bit differently. From your seat, saying, well,
(43:54):
I can't afford to see if this starter can get
through it. I can't afford to see if this bullpen
guy could get the next hitter. If they don't do
what I need them to do right now, well then
I can't wait to see what might happen next. I
gotta try somebody else, which they wouldn't normally do. In
Game seventy three, if Ron ber Valdez just a hypothetical
astro starter, if he gets into trouble in the fourth
(44:16):
inning after throwing nine up, nine down in.
Speaker 4 (44:20):
The first three, which happened this year a lot.
Speaker 5 (44:22):
He's not getting pulled in the fourth inning unless it
gets way out of hand. And we even saw it
in Plague. We're like, why aren't you taking him out?
That's the first and the second, and the third, and
the fourth and the fifth batter to reach consecutively, And
that's what you do in the regular season. He would
never let most managers wouldn't let that happen. Two guys
reached on back to back singles in the fourth inning
of the game, so he went to his bullpen. That's
(44:43):
what managers do in the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (44:46):
Do you feel confident that either of these two teams
can take out Seattle on next round? Absolutely not. It's
very unfortunate.
Speaker 5 (44:52):
But I do think the I think because what Detroit
should be able to do with their starters, because this year,
unlike last year, if you recall once tark schooble pitch,
that was it. They didn't have any other starting pitchers.
Speaker 4 (45:07):
Unless they faced the Astros and then they were fine.
Speaker 5 (45:09):
Well they didn't they didn't have any other starting I mean,
I mean, they didn't have any other starting pitchers. They're
just kind of going, whoever's the next guy in line there,
here's the starter, get two innings at him.
Speaker 4 (45:17):
They just didn't have confidence in anybody else. This year.
Speaker 5 (45:19):
They have three flirty being three today, Miz yesterday, and
Schooble in Game one. Schooble pitches on Tuesday, he's off,
Wednesdays off, Thursdays off, Friday. Do they consider bringing him
back for Game one?
Speaker 4 (45:31):
Would?
Speaker 5 (45:32):
Or do you just keep everybody on regular rest and
then you continue to keep everybody and you can get
Schooble in Game two and Mis in Game three and
maybe go from there. That's really their pitching, I think
is what might set them apart. Or if I believe
in Cleveland's pitching, which, like I just said, it's been
better than anybody else in baseball, they're gonna start in
Seattle obviously, so I don't. I don't like their chance.
(45:55):
I still haven't gotten around to my prediction.
Speaker 4 (45:57):
On well you might want to do? Since the cards
almost over.
Speaker 5 (46:00):
Well, if I'm not picking any of these teams, what
difference does it make? Well, I'd like to know I'm
not picking any of these teams. So who's your do it.
The Phillies are going to make it out of the
National League even without Zach Wheeler.
Speaker 4 (46:11):
Okay, and it's a big blow to them, but it's huge.
Speaker 5 (46:13):
I would be super confident with him. I'm modestly confident
without him, But with Sanchez and Suarez and Nola, I
still believe the power of their experience and their offense
in general.
Speaker 4 (46:25):
You don't think Schwarber is gonna bunt out in any series.
Speaker 5 (46:28):
Well, in the very same series, did he have any
no doubter home runs against the Astros?
Speaker 8 (46:34):
Yes?
Speaker 4 (46:34):
Did, if you the clitcher, So he'll be fine. So
Jordan had to show him what a real one looks like.
Speaker 5 (46:41):
Now, Schwarber didn't turn the series upside down. He didn't
turn you know, he didn't do any of those things.
So I think the Phillies will win it, and I
think the Brewers will give him a run for their money,
until that obviously means not the Dodgers.
Speaker 4 (46:52):
So the Brewers out of the National Yes, now the
Dodgers can go ahead and lose like they always do.
Oh show, hey, Tony's starting in Game one.
Speaker 5 (46:58):
Ooh, I want it to be I want the Blue
Jays to at least reach the CS, so I'll go
with that. I can't. I just told you I don't
believe either of these teams can beat the Mariners. So
there's your CS matchup, Blue Jays and Mariners. I don't
know if it's more fun to see the Mariners lose
to the Blue Jays or lose in the Big Show.
But considering they've never been to the World Series, let's
(47:20):
go ahead and keep that intact.
Speaker 4 (47:22):
Blue Jays Phillies World Series.
Speaker 5 (47:25):
And for George Springer, another heartbreaking world series loss.
Speaker 4 (47:31):
He's not an astro anymore and he got a ring.
Speaker 5 (47:33):
I'm sorry for Miles Straw, a heartbreaking world series astro anymore.
I'm sorry for Joey low Perfido, a heartbreaking world series.
For Yimi Garcia say, heartbreaking world series loss.
Speaker 4 (47:48):
Let's throw him in their tap. No, he doesn't play baseball.
Speaker 1 (47:52):
You know.
Speaker 5 (47:54):
I could say it for Jake Bloss or Mike Heineman,
but I won't. Tyler Hineman, but I'll leave them out.
They're all Blue Jays.
Speaker 4 (48:00):
We do need to ask this question because for all
to talk about Dana Brown or you know, if if
aj Hinch loses today somehow and he's after leading one nothing. Well.
I mean, it's not like they've been lighting it up
in this series until the latter stages of yesterday.
Speaker 5 (48:17):
If they if they managed to win somehow, yes, or
lose somehow and be out of the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (48:21):
I mean, Jim Crane wants him back here. He wants
to be back here, And this is what it comes
down to. I know that it's it's easy after what happened,
but like, I can't even be that mad at Joe
Espada with given what he was or in this case not,
given insane amounts of non health.
Speaker 5 (48:41):
Yeah, I can totally respect the obvious. If aj Hinch
is not under contract for the future, it's worthwhile to
discuss it, and that's the situation he's in. But why
would Why is Detroit even waffling?
Speaker 4 (48:56):
What?
Speaker 5 (48:56):
What is it that he's not done for you? What
do you not like about his managerial style? His handling
of the team is putting them in position to win,
because it's always still up to the players that the
GM has given him and how they perform on any
given game day. It's probably true that many managers would
have been able to take them from where they were
sixty six wins three years ago to seventy eight to
(49:17):
eighty six to eighty seven like he has, because they
just simply have more talent as they've gone through those years.
But you're telling me we should be better because you
weren't good enough. If you're telling Joe Spotta to leave
the Astros, if you're telling aj Hintch to leave the Tigers.
Two teams that each won eighty seven games this year
(49:38):
as American League playoff hopefuls. One got in, one did not.
Both finished second. If you're telling me that that's what
you really believe, then go ahead and move on from
those guys. But I just don't believe it. In either case.
It's because of them and how they operate, how they
get their guys prepared, how they motivate their guys, how
they keep everybody ready to go on any given day,
(49:58):
how they communicate, and clearly how they manipulate the nine
innings they get out of every day or ten or eleven,
and when the moves that they make and the decisions
with their lineup card and they're switching. If you really
believe that's what held the team back, and there's clearly
somebody else better out there, and you don't even know
who that is, because you're gonna go through all your
interviews and figure it out and go ahead and let
(50:18):
those people go find new jobs. I just don't think
in either case that's the right thing to do. But
if both happen and the Tigers don't have Hinch and
the Astros don't have a Spata, I would absolutely entertain
the idea of bringing AJ back.
Speaker 4 (50:33):
Do you think a Spata would you consider him an
analytical guy or how much of an analytical guy would
you consider him? I guess is the better question, because
I know what A is. He's all in on the numbers.
I think he's the right amount. I like AJ style also,
but I don't think Joe pushes them away. I don't
think he's tied to them.
Speaker 5 (50:53):
I think there's still a little bit of because managing
for feel, which I actually think AJ also has. But
you also look at their front offices. My front office
is so dialed in on it. I think they should
be as dialed in as ever. You question it because
they've moved on from Luno to Click to Brown, and
clearly their philosophies didn't seem to be aligned. You know,
eight ten years ago when they were doing respectively what
they were doing. But anybody who doesn't believe in the numbers,
(51:17):
like what do the numbers tell you the important things?
Speaker 4 (51:21):
Pay attention to them. I think he pays attention to it.
I tell you half the reason I would like to
have aj back is because of his front office experience,
and I just would like him in the building as
you're making decisions on personnel as much as I would
any x's and o's and in the field goods that
would come along with his return to Houston. But we'll
leave it at that. We'll get to tonight's Thursday night
(51:42):
matchup on Amazon Prime when we return.
Speaker 1 (51:47):
The ag on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 4 (51:56):
Now, because I know how you operate WEX, I am
ready to dispute, debate, and deny whatever you have to
say next. That's very accurate. I don't even know what's coming.
I know it's every day, I think, No, I know.
I am confident that you will have both the Yankees
(52:18):
Red Sox Game three and this horrific Thursday and night
Thursday Night matchup on at the same time tonight watching
them both.
Speaker 5 (52:26):
So here's why I still am an old person in general.
Speaker 4 (52:31):
Old school Buddy Duddy.
Speaker 5 (52:33):
I was gonna say that, but I'm not Matt, so
I don't want to Streaming sports is streaming in general.
I am a remote control fiend. I love watching sports.
I don't mind it all. When five games are on
at the same time, I'll watch them all. I'll flip
it here, I'll picture and picture it there, I'll have
(52:54):
the eight box here whatever. I want to see them all.
And if you're watching, say a Thursday football game that
your team city is not involved in there, you're only
gonna find it there on a streaming service. This case,
Tonight's Thursday night football is a stream game. So fired
up on the old TV tube. You start watching the game.
Let's see what's going on in the Yankees Red Sox game.
(53:17):
How do you do that?
Speaker 4 (53:19):
You gotta close the app down.
Speaker 5 (53:20):
I mean I can have my second device going. I
can pick up my telephone and dial it up on there.
I can watch it on a second screen. I can
call somebody and call Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 4 (53:31):
Yeah. I just wanted to score update. Do you know
what the score is? Do people still call our producers
and do that.
Speaker 5 (53:36):
There's lots of things, there's lots of ways to find
out sad, but I would prefer if I could just
hit the previous button or the back button on my
remote control or watch them both at the same time
on my TV screen. Now I just have to have
two TV screens or output to do that. Which that's
still my one pushback on streaming, And the other one
(53:57):
is the fact that you're behind in a way, you're
just some measure of I can't really watch it and
have the social media apps up at the same time
or else I already know what's happened.
Speaker 4 (54:12):
Well, all right there, I've got it all figured out,
and then I'll get to a personal story about that
very subject you're talking about in a second. But I've
got it all figured out for you.
Speaker 5 (54:20):
If you're watching the game in this room that we
are in, you just found out that Jose Ramirez singled
in the tying run, you still don't know that he's
gonna try to steal second and get thrown out because
it hasn't happened on our TV yet.
Speaker 4 (54:34):
Way to Altova, the whole situation.
Speaker 5 (54:36):
Well, I mean there's one out, there's nobody out in
the inning, so he's trying to get in scoring position
and try to take the lead.
Speaker 4 (54:41):
But yet on the screen.
Speaker 5 (54:43):
Eventually Dylan Dingler, not the star of Boogie Knights, is
going to throw him out.
Speaker 4 (54:47):
That's Dirk Diggler. So sincerely, I still have.
Speaker 5 (54:54):
I know, really, I'm that far on delay back here. Yes,
geez well we also he's out. Now we're describing like
the ultimated delay. Not only are we watching it through
a streaming service, we're watching it through a streaming service
here in our building, which is I believe it's through
Roku here it is sold.
Speaker 4 (55:11):
We're going to set up a brand new situation. And
not only are we going to make our phone lines
internet based to where if anything goes wrong at all
on a Wi Fi basis, you will have horrific issues
on air live, but we're also going to do everything
on such a delay that I could actually walk in
(55:32):
here and be like, like Cole just mentioned, I mean,
if it's it's it's a lot. It's harder to describe
this with a baseball game, so I guess it's the
amount of pitches, but like when the Rockets are playing,
oh my gosh, we're like five trips down the floor behind.
Speaker 5 (55:46):
Yeah, it makes it very, very difficult. But you wanted
to talk about how crappy the matchup is tonight between two, two,
three and one football teams are going at it tonight.
So talk about how crappy it is now, Well, you
don't need to watch that game. Oh well I will
take the un you better believe.
Speaker 4 (56:00):
It, and the Rams are gonna smash.
Speaker 5 (56:03):
Rams are at home. I would have picked them to
win anyway. Rams are at home with many injuries against
the Niners. Offensively, for sure.
Speaker 4 (56:10):
Do you know who plays for the Niners tonight, because
it'd be easier to list those players.
Speaker 5 (56:14):
I mean, there's only three prominent offensive players that are
missing the game. The two wideouts are the ones that
matter the most. Obviously, George Kittle continues, But with Juwan
Jennings and Pearsaw both being out to for tonight, they're
pretty soft in terms of a roster at wide receiver.
But I can't sit here and say the most popular
target and most popular receiver is out tonight.
Speaker 4 (56:36):
I just told you.
Speaker 5 (56:37):
Wide Receiver one is down. Wide Receiver two is also down.
But neither of them have thirty one catches this year,
like Christian McCaffrey does.
Speaker 4 (56:45):
He's playing. Oh that's nice that he's playing, since he
didn't do it at all. Last season when I drafted
him number one overall.
Speaker 5 (56:51):
So he has thirty one receptions and he has one
hundred touches this year, so obviously that means he has
sixty nine carries.
Speaker 4 (56:57):
Stop sitting nice, by the way, so stop saying it's
a me when everybody said he was going to play.
Speaker 5 (57:02):
The quarterback is also out. Rock Party is not playing
tenness Smash you this week played Week one. His toe
kept him out in weeks two and three. They brought
him back for Week four, but now his toe is
keeping him out for the short Week five game. I
would offer you this, the most well quarterbacked game of
the season was delivered by Mac Jones, not Rock Party
(57:23):
for the Niners.
Speaker 4 (57:24):
This year, that's fair to say. I don't how we're
going into Week five.
Speaker 5 (57:27):
I don't have any doubt that he can do that
tonight too. I'm not predicting they're going to win. I
wouldn't have predicted they were going to win with Rock
Party all because the Rams defense is just terrifying it is.
And yet what have the Rams truly done this year
with that defense, per se, or just the team in general.
Speaker 4 (57:45):
Whatever Matt Stafford has taken him to do.
Speaker 5 (57:47):
They got a five point win over the Texans. They
blew their game against the Eagles and allowed thirty three points.
Special teams were obviously involved, and they got lucky that
ad Mitchell hates scoring touchdowns and beat the Colts by seven. Yeah,
they blew out the Titans and the rest of the
year is basically a coin flip.
Speaker 4 (58:07):
Each of their three games, but you know which they
thought game. You could look at their season and say
the same thing. They're finding ways to win games they
probably shouldn't have for various reasons. I think two out
of their four games have definitely been they got.
Speaker 5 (58:24):
Lucky, yes, but did something like getting lucky And you
have to be in the position to do it, in
the position that the other team dropped just put the ball,
didn't drop it, they already had it. They took it
out of their hands and threw it away. That just
doesn't happen. That's a total thought. It was play that
the defense has nothing to do with.
Speaker 4 (58:41):
Agree.
Speaker 5 (58:42):
But yeah, four one score wins for the Eagles. I mean,
I guess I can't really dispute that, So I'm gonna
go chief and.
Speaker 4 (58:51):
The worst fourteen and three team or whatever it was out.
I like the sounds of that.
Speaker 5 (58:55):
They've been a little bit better offensively just in general
or scoring than the Chiefs by a toe against the
Chiefs last year. What the Eagles are doing this year
should remind a lot of people what the Chiefs were
doing last year. If you're playing them, you're going to lose,
but you're going to be agonizing over the fact that
you did should have won. You feel like you could
have first beaten them this day. Absolutely, But I think
the Rams are showing as they as I thought they
(59:17):
would in Week one, like this is a legitimate threat
to the NFC crown.
Speaker 4 (59:22):
They they are that good.
Speaker 5 (59:23):
You have people this week trying to add another story
to the NFL, which almost never works, but I appreciate
their efforts. Puka Nakua is playing like an MVP, and
I don't want to dispute it at all.
Speaker 4 (59:36):
He just doesn't have any chance to win the award
because he's not a quarterback, right, which is dumb. He's
he's he's having one of the most unbelievable starts all
the time. Does this every year? Yeah, it's it's incredible.
He is a game changing player. We talk about this
all the time. What are the realistic What's how realistic
is the possibility that the league finally says, all right,
(59:58):
we're gonna make an award for the best quarterback. And
then I guess it wouldn't really make sense though, because
the MVP needs to be the most valuable player. But
if if it's the most valuable player, then stop voting
for quarterbacks.
Speaker 5 (01:00:12):
So last year, say, if it's not a quarterback having
the type of season we're talking about, the pooka is
on his way to having. Yeah, and there were forty
nine votes for MVP last year. Guess how many he got?
Speaker 4 (01:00:24):
Zero? Correct? I mean the year that JJ Watt was like, yeah,
I should be the MVP, but Aaron Rodgers is gonna
get it because he placed quarterback and I don't he
knew it's baked in the cake. That just I don't know.
I feel like that's before the season even starts. All Right,
(01:00:45):
which quarterback are we voting for this year? They don't
necessarily say that out loud, but that's what they're all
thinking though.
Speaker 5 (01:00:51):
Twenty fourteen, Yeah, it was so you got your But
he was catching passes, that's the thing. Three receptions, four yards,
three touchdowns.
Speaker 4 (01:01:00):
It's insane.
Speaker 5 (01:01:00):
He also was catching passes from the other team. He
had an interception that year.
Speaker 4 (01:01:03):
And by the way, you knew they were going to
him when he was in He wasn't. There's a decoy.
They're absolutely throwing to him, and he still caught them.
Speaker 5 (01:01:12):
Three non quarterbacks got first place votes that year. Bobby
Wagner got one, DeMarco Murray Cowboys back got two, and
JJ got thirteen and finished a distant second to Aaron Rodgers,
who got thirty one of the first place votes. I
just think the most like Aaron Rodgers had a season
worthy of winning the MVP, like twenty five or thirty
(01:01:34):
other quarterbacks have done. They've had remarkable seasons that were
MVP worthy. JJ Watt had a season unlike any season
that's ever been played in NFL history, and he didn't
even come close to winning the MVP because they employ
a quarterback. And I just think that he just had
a run of the mill, really good, awesome quarterback season.
Speaker 4 (01:01:51):
There's one every year. What if you mentioned Saquon how
many touchdowns did you have last year?
Speaker 5 (01:01:56):
I guess thirty that somebody said thirty. He said thirty,
So I'm going with thirty.
Speaker 4 (01:02:02):
Although that would be a pretty good number. No, it's
less that crazy. Well, okay, if you had a running
back that ran for over two thousand yards and scored
thirty touchdowns or more, they should win the MVP, right
he only had fifteen? Well I just gave him twice
that and he couldn't even get the MVP. Not you,
that's true, he said thirty. I heard it, and it's
almost been thirty seconds since he said that. So we'll
(01:02:24):
just leave it at that. We'll continue here on a
Thursday edition of The A Team. It's Sports Talk seven ninety,
Space City Home Network. Still to come. What's up with that?
And we've got free tickets to give away as we
always do in the five o'clock.
Speaker 1 (01:02:36):
Hour the eighteen on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 4 (01:02:48):
Do you ever warn any spanks? I was like, what
are they talking about? For what reason? In order to
know what I am? Well to keep everything when I do?
What host a show?
Speaker 5 (01:03:02):
Do rockets cover a practice, attend a game, go to
a concert, go to a tailgate? Because they don't do
most of those things. They go out, they have dinner,
women sexist over here. Things that I do, like when
they go to work. They're not sitting in a radio studio.
(01:03:24):
Now some do, but a very small number of small
number of men do. Since I brought it up, it's
not how many people in the city of Houston, our
massive city of workers, are doing what we do each day,
work literally what we're doing, having an on air job
on the radio. It's a very small number of people.
Speaker 4 (01:03:43):
I was having a conversation with somebody about this before
the show that we work with. Who has a real
job and I have a real job. No, you don't.
What's your job? What is so painstakingly difficult about what
you do every day?
Speaker 5 (01:03:55):
Difficulty of your work is not related to whether or
not it's real.
Speaker 4 (01:04:00):
It is. It absolutely is. I want to go to
work because I have a real job. I don't have
a real job, and I don't care what you say.
And I know this. It's more endearing if people know
that what we do is fake work. Like, okay, I mean,
come on, everybody has the greatest job in the world.
It might be true, it's not a job. I get
(01:04:22):
paid for it. That's allculously all mental. Well yeah, but
like just kind of it's perspective.
Speaker 5 (01:04:29):
I love going to work and crunching numbers. As the
assistant controller for this auto Parts company. I love my job.
It's like not work at all. Don't you don't think
there's anybody out there that does that every day when
they wake up. The people that put on their short
sleeve dress, shirt and tie and head on into work
with their loafers and chinos, they don't say that.
Speaker 4 (01:04:49):
Sipowits more like the it guys. Oh it's Mikowski. It
probably didn't I get a piece of cake. Hey, Milton,
every day he woke up as long as he got
his stapler, it was a day I could put strict
dine in the guacamole, big grains of fault. Hey, No,
since we brought up the since I brought up the
term sexist, Oh yeah, and it's been you know, four
(01:05:11):
days now, four days. Can we just get this out
of the way and not I mean it's twenty twenty five.
You can say these things now and not get like.
I mean, I don't know. Beth Moens is not good.
It's not about like I've heard moans. And Ross Tucker
for those that Ross Talker wasn't good either, by the way.
That was the broadcast television Broadcast team crew was not
(01:05:32):
get Pastday Air crew was absolutely excruciating. And here's the thing.
If the game had been more entertaining for the first
three quarters, maybe that would have negated been negated a
little bit. I don't know why I'm going Gavin Newsom
right now, you know, maybe it would. But like he
doesn't do the truck Dan, he doesn't do this. It's
more like this, it's down here. I don't know what
(01:05:53):
he's doing. I just think that.
Speaker 5 (01:05:55):
Is he gonna eventually start saying he wants to be
me if he thinks that's what he's doing.
Speaker 4 (01:06:00):
They're both being idiots on social but that's nothing new, okay,
just by the game.
Speaker 5 (01:06:06):
The game was rather unentertaining, very unthrilling, very few great
plays happening for two hours.
Speaker 4 (01:06:13):
Do you know how many times I started counting after
a while that Ross Tucker said and kicking that was
the exact right decision right there, like no kidding. Moron
isn't Madden. Yeah, a couple of weeks ago, we've had
him on the show. I like him, Yeah, I do too.
I think he does a great job in his podcast.
I think he's a great NFL channel. This game was
not good and she's just not good, and that's not
(01:06:33):
good I was going to bring up.
Speaker 5 (01:06:34):
I guess it was probably two weeks ago when the
Texans were trying not to fall to zero to three,
and I made note of the fact that you want
it's not a must win game, but the Texans must
start winning games or else we're going to be subjected
to broadcast crews like this all season long. You're right,
And I'm not traveling to games, so when they're on
the road, I'm watching on TV like everybody else. I'm
(01:06:56):
usually at the stadiumhen they're at home, but I'll go
back and obviously and watch it him aware what's being
said during the game as it's happening. But that was
Spirodidas and Adam Rchhaalletta, and I thought they were having
an awful day of it. And I would agree that
Ross and Beth had not a particularly good day. And
if the Texans are in the week, yeah, it's Iron
and JJ this week. I can't wait to rip on
(01:07:17):
the two of them on Monday. It's gonna be fun.
Speaker 4 (01:07:18):
No, plus know as my boy.
Speaker 5 (01:07:20):
Because they're good at it, Like Iron Eagle isn't on
CBS's A team or B team and he's awesome. Who
is their B team, Kevin and Trent.
Speaker 4 (01:07:32):
Oh, that's right. I forget that Kevin Harlan's on CBS
in addition to Turner, but he's gone now.
Speaker 5 (01:07:37):
Ye, Jim and Antonio are the first team. Kevin Harland's
on Prime for the NBA.
Speaker 4 (01:07:43):
Now, I think.
Speaker 5 (01:07:46):
He's on the NBC, but I forget he is on
one of the additional networks that's come aboard this year
after the.
Speaker 4 (01:07:51):
Closest thing to Marv we've had since Marv. And he's
really good at both, which is incredible.
Speaker 5 (01:07:56):
You know what, we should probably mention that Sean mcdone
is doing some of these Major League Baseball playoffs and
he's like nobody ever talks about him because there's no
reason to talk bad about him, so he doesn't get
brought off. He does everything, and he does everything brilliantly, football, baseball.
Speaker 4 (01:08:10):
He's great and you might you might disagree on this guy.
I don't know how you feel about him. Brian Anderson,
Brian Anderson's phenomenal. He called Jordan's walk off against Seattle.
Did he not call the Philadelphia home run as well? No,
that was Joe Davis.
Speaker 5 (01:08:25):
Davis, both of them I think are very good, even
though Joe Davis is the Dodgers guy.
Speaker 4 (01:08:29):
I think you did a very good job. Well you
couldn't tell.
Speaker 5 (01:08:31):
Yeah, well the Dodgers also weren't playing, that's true. The
call you're missing is the big Christmas call. That was
the one that he called?
Speaker 4 (01:08:37):
Wait, which one?
Speaker 7 (01:08:38):
Big Christmas? John Kenzi?
Speaker 6 (01:08:40):
No else?
Speaker 7 (01:08:40):
Three?
Speaker 4 (01:08:41):
Went Homer last year over the Yankees. What did he say?
I wasn't watching because the Astros were out. There are
plenty of good ones.
Speaker 5 (01:08:48):
It's usually easier, especially in our seats, when you're angered
about it or unhappy with it, to bring up those
that aren't. And if the Texans don't win more games, here.
Speaker 4 (01:08:58):
More, there's another and he might be foxed. I hate
for you to just do this from memory, but you're
good at this.
Speaker 2 (01:09:05):
He does.
Speaker 4 (01:09:06):
He's one. He's the play by play guy. It's not
Tom Hammond? Is it? Definitely not Tom Hammond? Why am I?
Why are you out of the game? Type of he's
not doing him anymore? Do you know who I'm talking about?
That reminds me of him? Because that's what I'm trying
to think. Even giving me a whole lot of a background,
I don't even know if he's on Fox or CBS.
But it's NFL games, is what I'm talking about. So
(01:09:26):
if that narrows it down, which it really doesn't, is
it gonna be. I love him. He's just kind of
blah like. I don't think Beth Mowens is like bad
from the standpoint if she can't deliver the play by play,
it's just not Sam with same with Spiro. They're all
just blah like. The one of the best parts about
Noah and I'm looking forward to him calling games on
(01:09:47):
NBA on NBC, I should say. I think that's where
he is is that he sounds just like his dad. Well,
if you like his dad, it's just two point zero.
That's why I like when they get together and start
talking to it to each other as each other. It's happened,
and it is entertaining. You're grounded. I can't do it.
But yeah, I don't even know how he got to
(01:10:08):
that point. But tonight's who's calling tonight's game again? Al?
Speaker 5 (01:10:13):
Amazon Prime Duo. That's another thing and Al Al used
to Hailey on the side. I actually think Al's been
way better this year for some right, like he woke
up just maybe he's just more interested or a little
bit more entertaining. Yeah, yeah, I haven't had any reason
to discount him like I clearly did in previous years.
They also, I think, have a pretty entertaining studio show,
(01:10:34):
and they do do a good job of expanding their
pre end.
Speaker 4 (01:10:37):
Then obviously their field side post is very fun to watch.
You remember yesterday when I brought up attainable hot when
I was talking about kay Adams. That's Kaylee. She's in
that category. I mean, I know who she is and
what she looks like. She's attainable hot. Okay, why can't
you just what's why does that make you uncomfortable?
Speaker 5 (01:10:57):
I'm not uncomfortable at all. You seem uncomfortable. I feel
like you're gonna say that about every person on television.
Taylor Rooks, that's different. I mean, honestly, for as much
as I just said positively about Amazon And did you
notice I did not even mention her, Yeah, because you'd
never see her you will now though, right I watched
the games, she's barely used.
Speaker 4 (01:11:18):
We need to fix that. That's it. That's a sticking point.
We got to fix that real quick, and we will.
The A on Sports Talk seven.
Speaker 5 (01:11:27):
Ninety Eddie Adams homering for the Detroit Tigers to put
them up two to one. Boo in the top of
the sixth I'm sorry, Dylan Dingler homered for the Detroit
(01:11:48):
Tigers to put.
Speaker 4 (01:11:48):
A Look at the guy wearing a Detroit Tigers hat.
That's navy blue. I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Just basic blue,
basic blue, and maze as yellow. It had a Michigan
logo on the side, but the Detroit d in the
maze on the front. Two Tigers top six can I
read aloud from a text thread from somebody who is
(01:12:11):
actually in Detroit for this series, and they wanted to
describe in all detail what Detroit is. Quote a horrible city,
dirty as bleep and potholes galore. Doesn't sound like a
good place to visit, so I won't. I'm not a fan.
I've been there, have you? Yeah? I flew into their
(01:12:33):
airport and then I went to Flint for a wedding
and I did not drink the public water.
Speaker 5 (01:12:37):
I've been to h I went to see a ball
game there once on a little baseball tour of Cleveland, Detroit, Chicago, Milwaukee.
Speaker 4 (01:12:44):
Oh you were adding to your to your tally. Are
you one of those people? This is a long time.
It was before I mean I was barely even in
the business at the time. You know what about that
people that do that, which I think is very cool
because I who does that? Tommy? Of course Tommy does.
Tommy's the best.
Speaker 5 (01:13:00):
Can I hit your ride to this baseball? Just kidding,
I'll just fly the whole plane? There is that How
he's been able to do it.
Speaker 7 (01:13:07):
I think he's got like three left because.
Speaker 4 (01:13:09):
He's got Yeah. I mean, when you have that gig,
can we can we reveal on air what he does?
So Cole's dad, he just kind of like casually dropped
this one day.
Speaker 5 (01:13:19):
He's the pilot of the Rockets charter. That's pretty nice.
And the Astros because they play of visiting baseball parks.
When you fly the Astros to these baseball parks, it's
very funny game exactly.
Speaker 4 (01:13:31):
I mean you're in every city. Why not.
Speaker 5 (01:13:34):
I never really even tried to come up with a
tally that I have on my own because they've almost
That was like the one trip I just went for fun.
Every other stadium or game I've been to, I think
the rest of my life has been through work. Traveled
to a bunch of Texas games for Channel two. So
those are the only times I've been to almost every.
Speaker 4 (01:13:52):
One of those disposable income you'd have to have if
you didn't do this for a quote job.
Speaker 5 (01:13:56):
Yeah, but if you're a Ustonian and you love the
insert football, basketball, or baseball team or all three, surely
once a year, if you can afford it, and if
it's within your means, you just try to make one
of those trips. It's why there are actually some people
that do care. When we have a schedule release, like
in football, we already know the other teams outside the
division they're playing. We already know they're playing six games
(01:14:18):
against their division teams. But when in the year are
they doing it is kind of important. But the exact
day of when they do it is when you can
then book your trip.
Speaker 4 (01:14:27):
The very first opportunity you have to. I want to
buy these.
Speaker 5 (01:14:30):
Tickets, get the hotel done, and I'm going to spend
the weekend, fly out on a Friday, spend all day
Saturday out there, enjoy whatever is the city. Hopefully you're
not going to Detroit because we just told you it sucks,
and then you go see a Texans game or you're
doing that for a weekend Astro series or a weekend
Rockets game.
Speaker 4 (01:14:45):
Two things. One what might salvage a trip to Detroit
for me personally is if they ever, and I mean ever,
erect the Robocops statue, because then it'd be worth a
trip for me.
Speaker 5 (01:14:55):
Why wouldn't you just try to go up there for
the one trip the Rockets makes to see a man
in a on the court together.
Speaker 4 (01:15:01):
I could do that. I mean, I want to go
to some road games if we're not going to travel
regularly doing what we do, I mean, if if the
alternative is, you know, only get to go to a
few instead of and call the rest in the studio
here in a sterile environment. No offense to our producer
Josh c and sometimes Cole who does the games, love
(01:15:21):
hanging out with them. That's not that's not on them.
But yeah, But here's the other thing. I feel like,
by the time I set it all up and went
to some of these venues to try and check them
all off my list, one of them's already gonna have
been replaced. You gotta go again, Like I already missed
out on going to Oakland Coliseum because that's never happening again.
So you were at Yankee Stadium, the old one or
(01:15:43):
the new one. I was at the new one, me too,
great seats behind home plate. Thanks Reid, Ryan hooked it up.
I knew that I would have decent seats. We walk
in and I'm looking down and I didn't really look
it up beforehand because it was like a whirlwind trip.
And when we're walking down, I'm like, this, dude, us
right behind home plate for Jeter's last home stand. That's
got that's some poll. But you know, when your last
(01:16:05):
name's Ryan, you've got that kind of juice. Pretty nice.
But yeah, I don't know Yankee New Yankee Stadium, since
I didn't have anything to compare it to because everybody
talked about, Ah, this place is so like you know,
it's just it feels corporate. The other place has had character. Well,
the other place was there since nineteen twenty nine or whatever.
(01:16:26):
It was in the same exact location.
Speaker 2 (01:16:29):
Though.
Speaker 5 (01:16:29):
Basically, yeah, I think they did pretty all things considered,
be like a nice a really nice job with trying
to mix a little of both in there. It's obviously
brand news, all the bells and whistles along with it.
Speaker 4 (01:16:39):
You're right there. You hop off the train and it's
right there there, but there's not a lot of ballparks
where I'm like, I want to Yeah, I want to go,
in fact, get off right over the area where those
stupid fans were chanting, we want Houston. How'd that go?
Don't need that chant this year, sadly no. But they're
not going to be changing city either win this series.
(01:17:00):
They're out tonight, They're out tonight. We want Cancun. That's
how that's gonna go. Okay, there's not many stadiums on
the circuit, if you will, that I would like go
out of my way to go see. But I do
know two for sure. One is in Pittsburgh, and I've
talked about that many times because that's all I ever
hear about is how great it is. And the other
one is San Francisco. I get an attest for San Francisco,
(01:17:24):
but I don't want to go to the city because
I've been there before and it was in six for
New Year's Basically, I flew home in time to watch
Vince beat USC. But I don't I want to remember
it that way and not the way that I hear
about it is now, where there's like human stuff all
over there.
Speaker 5 (01:17:39):
I went to out west where on that last whatever
family vacation it was in whatever year that I've already forgotten.
Speaker 4 (01:17:44):
It was very recent. I shouldn't already forget. We drove
by both ballparks like San diegoore memories were made. Well,
that's the thing. It's so stupid. Hey, what'd you guys
do on the trip? What do you mean?
Speaker 5 (01:17:53):
Why don't you ask Ryan? Whant to you ask Samantha.
I'm sure Robin knows everything detailed by details.
Speaker 4 (01:17:58):
Time, Say what you're thinking? I hung out with my
stupid namals.
Speaker 5 (01:18:04):
I cannot process the items that were done to a
point where I can recount them to people when they ask.
But you enjoy it when you're there, of course I
do it. This has nothing to do with the enjoyment.
What I was really just trying to say is we
went through San Diego and San Francisco. Didn't have tickets
to either ballparks. They didn't have a game the weekend
we were there, but drove by both ballparks, checked out
(01:18:24):
the area, out some of what we could see from
walking around the area, and with San Francisco's location, it's
it's really where. It's awesome that they were able to
get it there. There's not a ton of room there. No,
I mean right out off this way. Obviously you hit
the ball into the water. It's it's the scenery out
there from that ballpark is just tremendous. I've been to
a game also at Coors Field, and I thought sitting
(01:18:47):
and we were in the buy it. We're in the
upper deck behind first base. Did you did you know
start bleeding?
Speaker 4 (01:18:53):
No? But your view is just so awesome. Yeah, because
the Colorado Rockies are out there, not the ones on
the field.
Speaker 5 (01:18:59):
Yeah, it's really it's and I don't know how far away,
but our hotel was not too far. Fifteen minute walk,
just walked down there. A nice place, a nice area,
nice ballpark, bad team, right as usual. I went to
the Texans first ever game at Mile High and have
been there. So that was four I want to say.
Speaker 4 (01:19:15):
And so it's right next door to Course Field basically,
and so I saw it, but I never went in there.
But like Ross went, same thing. I think it snowed
on him. Nice it might have.
Speaker 5 (01:19:23):
Well, there you go some ballpark tour, football stadium adventures
that hopefully you have had a chance to take. We've
had a chance to make over the course of our
time here, we'll enjoying sports at our non jobs halfway home,
get into some particulars, one specific area of what the
Texans would like to do more of moving forward, which
they have not done yet through four games this season.
(01:19:45):
We'll start with that, move into what we now know
about the Ravens and the Texans health status for Sunday
as we continue here on the A.
Speaker 1 (01:19:52):
Team the eight on Sports Talk seven ninety two in
lifelong Houston sports guys named Adham talking your team's.
Speaker 3 (01:20:07):
Adam Clinton and Adam Wetfler are the eighteen.
Speaker 4 (01:20:14):
Four o'clock How we're underway here on Sports Talk seven
ninety and Space City Home Network. It is the eighteen
Game three of the Wildcard Series between the Tigers and
the Guardians, still a two to one lead as they
have just completed six innings there in Cleveland, So we'll
see if the Tigers can hang on in advance or
(01:20:34):
if Cleveland will come back and save its season at home.
In the meantime, if you haven't been listening, you've already
missed our ballpark tour discussion, which was riveting last segment,
maybe the best segment of the week. So far, but
it is Thursday. There's still a lot to go. We've
talked a ton about the Texans and the Ravens matchup
this weekend, and we'll probably do that a little bit
(01:20:55):
here as well. Also before the end of the show,
US has made an outrageous prediction on the college football scene.
We'll tell you who that is and what they are saying.
But yeah, some health health updates would be nice, particularly
coming out of a matchup that is looking more and
(01:21:15):
more increasingly like Lamar Jackson's not going to be part
of things. We already covered Damiko Ryan saying, you can't
exactly replicate that guy in practice. If you're the Texans,
which would be true of any fantastic player that isn't
on your roster.
Speaker 5 (01:21:28):
If your backup quarterback was Josh Allen, you could replicate
Lamar Jackson. That's pretty much it. Backup quarterback in Baltimore
is Cooper Rush. He's likely to start and play against
the Texans. They do carry a third quarterback on their
practice squad, be Tyler Huntley, So if they know Lamar
Jackson cannot go, they will either elevate him or sign
him to the active roster. They probably have a handful
(01:21:51):
of roster moves to make because of some IR additions
and potential IR editions, but the official injury report from
both teams have not yet been released. But he did
not practice today talking about Lamar Jackson uncertain status for
several players, including a couple in the secondary with Marlon
Humphrey and Nate Wiggins. The Wiggins did make his way
back to the practice field today for the Texans. He
(01:22:12):
had seven players listed on the injury report yesterday. Two
of them had just had their practice window opened as
they have not played this year being on the pup list.
And I are, respectively pupp list for Denico Autrey, I
are for Jalen Reed, the defensive lineman and safety rookie
safety respectively. Would imagine they'll be listed limited again, and
I think there's a reasonable shot that neither are active
(01:22:34):
for the game on Sunday. Doesn't mean there's been a
setback or there's any other reason. You just have three
weeks to decide when to put them there, and you
know fully fought. Acasi's shoulder injury could impact the Autrey decision, possibly,
but the Texans usually have one defensive lineman down off
the active roster anyway.
Speaker 4 (01:22:52):
Last week it was Taylor.
Speaker 5 (01:22:54):
Previously it's been Tommy Togii, although it won't be this week.
He's helping them too much, so if Photocasi is down,
it's not automatic that they need Autrey to be active
unless they have a plan to put him on the
field and use him. Otherwise, I would expect he probably
would have another week to get even healthier, and they
do have some issues in the secondary, so I think
it's definitely possible they could want Jalen Reid up for
(01:23:16):
the game. But you also have the elevation options with
Ross and Miles Bryant again, as they've elevated them a
couple times, reaching the end of the line with how
many times you can elevate them, this would be the
final time. So those are a couple of things I
have to consider. Nico Collins being limited yesterday with the
knee is probably more about maintenance, and it was a Wednesday.
He will have practiced today and I don't think there's
(01:23:37):
any reason to be concerned for him on Sunday. And
I actually think the same is true for the two
guys who did not practice yesterday that I have not
yet mentioned. Willy Anderson Junior and Derek Stingley Junior, both
of them practice today. I'm sure they'll be listed as limited,
but or Anderson possibly not because he missed yesterday's practice
due to rest. They're just making sure that they do
what's right week to week to keep them off his
(01:23:57):
feet as much as they can so we can go
out there and continue to be one of the five
most impactful edge rushers in the NFL in twenty twenty five,
which in my estimation is exactly what he's been. And
they're clearly managing the Derek Stingley Junior oblique injury and
trying to make sure he gets to game day just
like last week. Barely saw the field during practice and
did not leave the field during the game until the
(01:24:17):
game was in hand on the final defensive series. So
hopefully he's good to go find out some more definitive
daily stuff. The only thing definitive that potentially comes Friday
is any player that is already known to be out.
Otherwise we all have the injury status with them. What
they can change is what they do with some of
their own personnel, especially the rookies. It's been an ongoing
conversation because we and most people covering the team. I
(01:24:40):
think clearly people inside the team teammates also believe the
players they added specifically to their offense. On the draft side,
tay Ercrie Wood, he Marks, Jalen Knowle, Jayden Higgins not
only should could be on the field, but it really
just earned the right to be on the field. If
(01:25:01):
I told you Jayden and Higgins through the first three
weeks of the season, their top draft pick rookie wide
receiver have been on the field for forty three percent,
forty three percent, and forty four percent of the snaps
through the first three games. How many snaps from a
percentage do you think he was on the field for
the fourth game? Forty three, forty three and forty four
(01:25:23):
in the first three weeks. So do you think he
hit in game four twenty seven? No, the exact same percentage. Somehow,
despite playing a different number of snaps in three of
the four games they've played sixty three twice.
Speaker 4 (01:25:33):
One's charting this and doing this on purpose.
Speaker 5 (01:25:35):
They have he has seen the field for exactly forty
three or forty four percent of the snaps in all
four games, and his production off of that extremely limited
use is one target in each of the last three weeks,
he caught it each time. Last week he obviously found
the end zone for the first time, and in Week
one against the Rams, he had three targets two receptions,
(01:25:58):
So his play count has been altered a little bit,
but the amount of snaps they've intended to play him
for has remained exactly the same percentage wise every single game,
which people clearly that work on the offensive game plan.
Speaker 4 (01:26:11):
It's not a coincidence.
Speaker 5 (01:26:13):
It's very intentional, and hopefully this is the week it
starts to change. Jamiico Rans was talking yesterday specifically about
each of those four rookies and wanted you to hear
specifically his thoughts as he begins with all and ends
with on j Jayden Higgins and how he needs to
be out there more.
Speaker 6 (01:26:30):
All of those guys, Tay Higgins, Noel Woody, all those
guys just continue to get better every week. You're seeing
these guys mature right before our eyes. You're seeing them
get more opportunities because of the trust that they've shown
with the opportunities they've given they've been given. Like you
give Higgs an opportunity, go get the football, He's done
(01:26:52):
it several times made a lot of big catches for us.
We gotta get him more.
Speaker 5 (01:26:56):
We gotta get him more. What he said about those
players getting better each week and needing to see the
field more each week not applicable to say Ursery. He
hasn't left the field yet. He's been on the field
for every single play as a starter. He's been forced
to start at right tackle once, but been allowed to
start at his actual position, left tackle the rest of
the season. Jay Lynn Knowl barely sees the field on offense.
(01:27:21):
His snap count is embarrassingly low, and that was both
before Christian Kirk's injury and since Christian Kirk's injury. I
just gave you Jayden and Higgins. He plays the same
amount of plays no matter what, apparently through four weeks,
but it was true for Woody. Barely saw the field
in week one, a little bit more in week two,
almost got half the snaps in week three, and last
(01:27:42):
week he played more than the guy that started ahead
of him because he was more effective and meant more
to what they were trying to do and was succeeding
with the opportunities. You can't succeed with the opportunities if
they're not given to you, they clearly have earned them
with what they're doing at practice and what they did
during camp, but what they did during joint workouts and
what they did in preseason games. But until they see
the field with any kind of reasonable count of plays,
(01:28:03):
the opportunity is not really there to prove it on
the field. One player has had the chance to besides Ursery,
one of these skill position trios has had a chance
to prove it with the opportunities, and that's what Woody
has done. It sounds like, and even though I'm sure
they're not going to force it, you're gonna see Jaden
Higgins on the field a little bit more, which inevitably
(01:28:24):
should see him getting the ball a little bit more,
and hopefully he will do what wood He has done
thrive with the opportunity.
Speaker 4 (01:28:30):
Well, I think this is what frustrates so many fans
when they're saying, Okay, you decided to draft these two
receivers instead of maybe one of those picks being an
offensive lineman, and now you're not even playing one of them.
And I get there's you know, trajectory, and you have
to sometimes they're not ready, you know, or they're not
ready to be effective at least.
Speaker 5 (01:28:51):
So let's get specific. Let's pick Jaalen Knowle. There's something
about what you've seen from him, and we're not at
all of the practices, certainly not during the regular so
that kid's an incomplete he does something about what we've
seen from him suggest he's not ready to handle a
workload reasonable twenty five thirty snaps a game workload at
slot receiver.
Speaker 4 (01:29:10):
I wouldn't say that. You shouldn't say that, especially with
the injuries they've suffered. Yeah, well, that's the thing.
Speaker 5 (01:29:14):
In the first two weeks, when Christian Kirk was unavailable
and Braxton Barrios was also unavailable, I was shocked. I
was shocked in week one, I'm like, where is he?
Why is he not out there more? And most of
his opportunities he's still on the entire season now, he
only has just a couple of catches. He's got three catches,
one in three of the games and none in the
other and two of them, if not all three of
(01:29:35):
them are screens wide receiver screens. He was on the
field for a wide receiver a fake wide receiver screen.
Speaker 4 (01:29:41):
This last week.
Speaker 5 (01:29:41):
It was one of the most beautifully executed plays that
Texans had until CJ overthrew a dult Schultz because it
was Schultz and Higgins lined up next to each other
and Jalen Ole lined up right behind him.
Speaker 4 (01:29:52):
Total giveaway off. They're gonna throw a screen.
Speaker 5 (01:29:54):
CG is going to take a one step drop planets
right foot, throw it to his left, and these two
guys in front of him were gonna block, and everyone
acted accordingly. Both receivers in front faked their block. CJ
faked the throw, Noel took two steps back to receive
the non throw, and then Higgins and Schultz ran right
by their defenders. Both of them were open, not wide open,
but they had a step on each player, and unfortunately
(01:30:16):
the pass was delivered inaccurately. One of these six only
six in completions that CJ had on the day. But
absolutely Jalen Noles should have seen the field so much
more then so now he could be seeing the field,
and unfortunately Kirk's been out there a ton and it's
it doesn't look like there's much of a connection.
Speaker 4 (01:30:34):
Going on yet.
Speaker 5 (01:30:35):
Sometimes it takes time, and it could take it could
have taken time with Noel two. But I just think
they're missing a lot out of that particular slot, literal slot,
receiver slot. They just haven't been able to get a
whole lot out of it so far this season because
they haven't I don't think, used their personnel.
Speaker 4 (01:30:50):
The way they should aj and just going to advance.
It's only four to one, Well why can't Cleveland score?
They're like the Astros right now.
Speaker 5 (01:30:58):
Well, you answered your own question, and we pointed it
out all season. The two worst offenses in baseball from
reasonably competitive teams where the Astros and the Guardians. It's
this is nothing curious. They don't score. They need to
win by keeping the other team from scoring. And with
one out in the seventh inning and two runs already
in and two runners still on base, and the Guardians
(01:31:19):
only having three at bats left, they probably don't want
to see a fifth, sixth, or seventh run put on
the board in a four to one game.
Speaker 4 (01:31:26):
I hope some guys are on base in front of Ramirez.
Speaker 5 (01:31:29):
He's their guy. Nobody else is Yes, four one Tigers.
We keep you updated on the non Astros baseball playoffs
here in twenty twenty five.
Speaker 1 (01:31:38):
The A team on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 4 (01:31:54):
One segment away from our signature segment, What's up with
that Tiger's reps six to one. I never thought it'd
be this disappointed to see aj Hinch have some success.
Now he really wanted to come back to Houston again.
Speaker 5 (01:32:09):
Why the Tigers would not want to stay with aj
Hinch moving forward would be a baffling.
Speaker 4 (01:32:15):
This is gonna hurt that scenario happening.
Speaker 5 (01:32:17):
I would, I know, because four days ago he was
liable to be let go, and four days later, after
managing three more baseball games, all of a sudden, he's good.
Speaker 4 (01:32:25):
It's just total stupidity in my eyes. Okay, they advance
and they lose in the DS to Seattle. Mm hmm,
it's right back where we started, right for people who
don't think like me. Yes, most people run the Tigers,
I guess.
Speaker 5 (01:32:38):
I mean we're we're the ones telling them this must
be where they're thinking. The only evidence we have from
them is that he doesn't have a contract, which suggests, okay,
maybe they're not sold. I don't know what possible reason
they would have, because again, you got you gotta find
somebody better. If he's gonna the next guy is gonna
have roughly the same group of players to work with.
Maybe you'll get a little bit better because you clearly
(01:32:59):
see that you're winning. Usually teams that are starting to
win want to do more so they can continue to win.
But who is it is Terry Francona retiring and getting
rehired again like Cincinnati though smart, Terry Francona is proven winner.
Rangers Bruce Bochie, You're going to win more games with
Bruce both sut your manager, Justin Baker, same thing. These
(01:33:19):
guys have a proven infallible They win games, They are
good managers. Their regular season records speak for themselves clearly,
obviously pretty much not debatable, and everybody agreed with the
hires across the board pretty much every single time they
get hired. Well, you're not getting any of those three guys,
I don't think. So who is it that you're getting.
You're gonna get a first time manager. You're gonna get
(01:33:41):
somebody else who's available, like Davy Martinez, Bob Melvin, I
mean the other fired Ron Washington.
Speaker 4 (01:33:49):
Like, well, you're not getting alert pooh holes because Anaheim
has already scooped him up.
Speaker 5 (01:33:54):
I think, well, we were talking about that yesterday and
I was joking about the throng of media around him
when he visits Dyke And Park his favorite road ball
park of all time whatever, even though he never homered there.
It was Minute Made Park at the time. That's the
first series of the season. They opened the season at
home with the Angels.
Speaker 4 (01:34:14):
Well, he can't bat, that's good.
Speaker 5 (01:34:17):
I would be absolutely willing to bet you if you
gave him all of the designated hitter at bats, ten
or eleven of them through that three game series, he
would homer.
Speaker 4 (01:34:25):
Now, this was absolutely homer Still, this is mean. But
will Anthony Rendon be joining him on the bench already?
Speaker 5 (01:34:32):
No, I don't think Anthony Rendill's playing in the Major
League Baseball game again.
Speaker 4 (01:34:36):
Like what happened. He just he was healthy, just long enough,
Like if you were gonna be able to see into
the future and know that after this that's it. You're
basically trading your soul for this World Series championship. That's
what he did. He torched the Astros as a member
of the Nationals and was never heard from again.
Speaker 5 (01:34:57):
Yeah, five partial seasons. You'll afford me to say the
COVID season was a partial season, even though he played
fifty two of the sixty games. He didn't have as
he has not had a sixty game season yet hitting
the Nationals in twenty nineteen.
Speaker 4 (01:35:11):
We should have had two championship parades in a calendar year.
Speaker 5 (01:35:16):
I mean, he's a really good baseball player, and he
was healthy at the time he showed up.
Speaker 4 (01:35:20):
He was good.
Speaker 5 (01:35:21):
They won largely because he was great. He had an
awesome postseason that year, and he's a good player. That's
what a good players are supposed to do. You expected
me to be happy for him or his family. No,
I'm just saying it didn't come out of nowhere. He's
he was a really good baseball player, went to nowhere
after That's what it did.
Speaker 4 (01:35:38):
That's gosh, man, Rockets and Astros should have had two
more championships to their ledgers. They'd each have three now
if stupid sports guys didn't get involved. Why do the
sports guys have blamed because Howie Kendrick? Really, what if
you could do that scenario a billion more times? He's
not hitting that poll idiot, Why don't you win Game one,
(01:36:00):
two or six? Why don't you and then ah, we're
gonna give you Chris Paul. He's gonna have one of
the best seasons of his life. He's absolutely getting out
of the first round of the playoffs of his life,
taking a back seat, and you're gonna win sixty five games,
get the top seed. But right after they clinch game five,
actually before it's even officially over, he's gonna die in
the lane with a hamstring alls down.
Speaker 5 (01:36:23):
That doesn't look good. I having a hard time getting
to his feet here. Not sure if he's gonna be
good for Game six. That was the initial early win.
Speaker 4 (01:36:31):
If they don't win, that not gonna be good for
game seven. We'll see even if they're leading, Scott Foster
is gonna take charge. We'll see if he's available.
Speaker 5 (01:36:38):
Nobody wanted to acknowledge he had a month's month's worth
of an injury at that time.
Speaker 4 (01:36:43):
You know what, I didn't think to do. This makes
me mad at myself more than I've ever been mad
at myself in a million years. But it wasn't my interview.
If that had been me on Monday at Toyota Center
and I'm sitting across the table from Kevin Durant, I'm
absolutely saying, come on, you guys, got some help. There
were some four point plays there, right, Like Kevin Durant
(01:37:04):
said it himself, I was nervous flying into this city
to play this team. We've had some battles in this building.
The ultimate one was Game seven and twenty eighteen.
Speaker 5 (01:37:13):
Well, they were down three games to two, right, mm hmm.
That's enough in and of itself. Like we're on the
brink of elimination here, yep. Like this team. You feel
like we've played them five times, they've gotten you three times.
We've been battling with them all these years, and they
never got us. They have us now they're about to
beat us.
Speaker 4 (01:37:32):
But Chris Paul just got hurt. We good and even
if we're not good, Scott's got us. How about him?
Sint nobody got us? Scott Foster's got us? What about
the other angle he personally can take on that? I
think we might have this team this year? Uh oh,
I'm hurt, so we still got it. Well that was
the next year. I know, Like he got hurt, he
couldn't play, and they still beat the Rocket. You know,
(01:37:52):
you know he is you know why I love Kevin Durant.
Among millions of other reasons, let's hear the latest one.
He is the reason that I can confidentely say Steph
Curry is as overrated as he is you know why.
Speaker 5 (01:38:03):
Well, do you not think that Steph Curry did what
Chris Paul did. Chris Paul took a back seat to
James Harden when he was here, Absolutely positively.
Speaker 4 (01:38:11):
But nobody tries to argue that Chris Paul's the top
ten greatest of all time NBA player the way they
do with Steph Curry.
Speaker 5 (01:38:18):
Well, he was acquired by a team that already had
a point guard. He's a point guard. He had to
take a back seat because he's not the point guard
of the Rockets anymore, or of his team anymore. Everything
he did with the Clippers, Yes, you're right, they're at
different levels, no question, Chris Paul was.
Speaker 4 (01:38:31):
Chris Paul's an all time top point guard. Probably, that's
kind of what I'm saying.
Speaker 5 (01:38:34):
He isn't Steph on the biggest list, right, But if
you list the all time greatest point guards, you're not
getting to six without Chris Paul.
Speaker 4 (01:38:42):
So he did do this? Was he third all time
and assists? Yeah? I think he's third and second on
assists and steals. I mean, Steph ain't sniffing either of
those because he's not that kind of player. Chris Paul's
not on the all time three point lest then call
him a shooting guard. They had two shooting guards and
those were the Splash Brothers.
Speaker 5 (01:39:00):
Well just call them. Rate them for what the big
list is, Well, rate the all time greatest players. Nobody
puts Chris paulhead of Steph Curry, so they're on different levels.
But don't you think Steph Curry intentionally and or was
told to and or understood he needed to take some
kind of back seat to Kevin Durant, which could make
both of our arguments. A lot of people look at
the numbers or the MVP and say, well, look he
(01:39:22):
outplayed him. Okay, well then he's better if you want
to say it that or he intentionally took a back
seat for the better of the team, so this great
player could do what he needed to do because that
was the best way they could win.
Speaker 4 (01:39:33):
Yeah, that's great. The other player is as in better
than you. I mean, even though we won seventy three
games a year prior we blew the finals. We needed help.
We had to get Kevin Durant. They clearly can win
without Kevin Durant. They won titles without him. It's just
that that is what Honestly, when people say when casuals,
I'll just put it that way. When casuals say I
don't like the NBA because of the super teams, I
(01:39:55):
can't argue with them. I just agree with him say
because of the super teams.
Speaker 5 (01:40:00):
That's a big reason why I think a lot of
people who won the two on the title this year
not a super team because they're kids. Even though they
have three big time, huge stars, they're just kids, so
nobody calls them a super team. And it didn't trade
for any of them, or did they They just traded
for one of them when he was a kid in SGA.
I mean, these three star teams win NBA titles over
(01:40:23):
and over and over and over again, and we can
semantically discuss it. Guess what, they're super teams. The Rockets
absolutely have a big three this year. Yeah, I think
so too. I really like think about the All Star team.
Kevin Durant is going to be an All Star, Alprin
Shongoon is coming off of an All Star season. Are
Men Thompson is going to play like a top five
(01:40:44):
first team All NBA Defensive Team player for a second
year in a row. Why can't he also be an
All Star? And it's only twelve guys, so it's pretty
limited set for me to try to categorize them as
a big three. They are a big three because ask
the other teams when you go to play the Rockets,
how do you beat them? Well, you got to do
this to him and you got to make sure he
(01:41:05):
doesn't do that. And if this guy does that, those
three players were sunk.
Speaker 4 (01:41:10):
Yeah. And you know, unlike I keep bringing up to
Scottie Pippen comparison, but Pippen did have the offensive game,
although it wasn't I mean when he first came in,
I don't think his jump shot was all that not
on an NBA level. You know what I'm hearing about
him in Thompson.
Speaker 5 (01:41:27):
I mean, he shot seventeen percent as a rookie. I
think that's pretty good from where the three point line.
Speaker 4 (01:41:32):
Oh my gosh, he only took three tenths of a
three per game. How many do you how many do
you hoist that year?
Speaker 5 (01:41:39):
Well, three tenths. That must mean he probably shot like
thirty twenty three.
Speaker 4 (01:41:44):
Twenty three of them. That's all he attempted in eighty
two games.
Speaker 5 (01:41:47):
Plus playoffs seventy nine games that regular season. His first year,
he shot twenty three threes.
Speaker 4 (01:41:51):
That was eighty seven, eighty eight, that's right. Did they
make the postseason?
Speaker 1 (01:41:55):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:41:55):
I mean he was a crappy three point shooter, just
be honest, but an awesome defender. Yep. All right, Amen
Thompson for MVP. You heard it here. First, we will
get to our signature segment when we come back. It's
What's up with that? Because it's a Thursday and it's
straight ahead.
Speaker 1 (01:42:11):
The eighteen on Sports Talk seven ninety where now a new.
Speaker 2 (01:42:17):
Signature seven called What's up with? What's up with that?
What's up? If I say, what's up? Who's that?
Speaker 4 (01:42:37):
All right? Signature segment Thursday edition of the program, tell
you what I want to talk about.
Speaker 5 (01:42:42):
So we just got through expansion in the playoffs at
pretty much all levels. We're watching four wild card games
in Major League Baseball to get four teams to advance
to the four waiting teams. Already, we'll go from twelve
to eight to four to two to a champion. We
just saw the college football playoff expand from four teams
(01:43:03):
to twelve teams. Teams like Dabbo's squad and Boise State
squad and Penn State's crew all made the playoffs last
year because poor Florida State and their undefeated squad from
a year prior couldn't, so he got it up to
twelve expansion in the postseason. It's very, very very common.
It's happened like nineteen times in college basketball. Sixty four
(01:43:25):
team field had some pretty good staying power, nice and
neat for sixteen team brackets, no need for playing games,
no need to ask if Dayton's arena was available on
Tuesday and Wednesday night. We got it up to sixty
eight teams the last handful of years and made the
automatic qualifiers from the weakest, lowliest we hate you conferences
(01:43:47):
made their tournament trip even worse than ever. Yeah, you're
going to Dayton and then when you lose, you're not
even really going to the big dance. But we'll say
you made it, and you guys can put up your
banner and say you made it. But when we get
out of the field of sixty four, you know the
four sixteen team brackets, you ain't in it because you
lost an opening round game, and now almost finalized, it's
going to be worse. Seventy six team field is almost
(01:44:10):
certainly coming to March madness now, so we had eight
teams playing for the final four spots over the first
couple of nights of the opening round, and now we'll
have twenty four teams playing for twelve spots. Before Thursday's
actual NCAA tournament begins, they'll have a new site along
with Dayton and situate all those games and the teams
(01:44:33):
that were playing in to be sixteen seeds, And basically
now all of the sixteen seeds now none of them
except the ones that win that game, are going to
feel like they made the NCAA tournament. They'll still basically
have these opening round games between the last automatic qualifiers
and the last selected teams, So the same groups of
(01:44:56):
teams is just more of them, in other words, more
of those at large selections that everybody wastes their time
debating about. And there's a reason they have a debate
about it, because you clearly didn't belong there. If you
got to have some screaming former coach or their current
coach screaming, I know we lost all these games, and
(01:45:16):
I know we didn't play anybody, and I know we
scheduled everybody whichever avenue they need to take. Well, now
there's gonna be even more of them, and they're gonna
be even worse. Half of the people screaming are now
gonna make the tournament and the other half are gonna
make the field.
Speaker 4 (01:45:32):
So dumb, so unnecessary.
Speaker 5 (01:45:35):
Thankfully, it lasts only two nights, and people yelling about
it only have two days to yell about it, myself
now included. But I guess it makes them more money.
I'm not sure how it makes them more money, because
they're not gonna get that much more out of a
TV deal for those games now being a part of it,
and they're giving that money to those teams and conferences.
(01:45:59):
But it's always about money, so certainly there must be
more money to be made. Seventy six teams. We're gonna
throw the ball up for the first time from here
in November for your first regular season game, and seventy
six of you are making it, making it to the
tournament to determine the championship.
Speaker 4 (01:46:17):
That's too many. There aren't good basketball teams. They don't
need this many teams. It's not entertaining to watch them
at the beginning of the tournament, the opening round. It's
really it was unnecessary what they were currently doing. The
first expansion from sixty four to sixty eight was absolutely unnecessary. Clearly,
this one's even more unnecessary. What's more saturated with bad
(01:46:40):
teams in postseason play college or pro?
Speaker 5 (01:46:43):
I don't think pros saturated with it at all. Like
look at the Major League Baseball playoffs. If you could
maybe argue the Reds are a bad team, I guess,
but they played their way in by outplaying the Mets.
Speaker 4 (01:46:53):
Well, I meant specifically basketball.
Speaker 5 (01:46:57):
I think the way that they've set it up, it
opens the door just lightly. Because you have thirty NBA
teams and now twenty of them get extra basketball, with
four of them, two in each conference, having to win
their way in, they've made it difficult. The eight or
the ten seed so to speak, has won twice to
make the field and be the eight seed. Very infrequently,
it almost never happens, and those teams are usually the
(01:47:18):
ones you're talking about, and usually.
Speaker 4 (01:47:20):
At least currently they're the East.
Speaker 5 (01:47:22):
Like these teams that are heading into the final two
weeks with thirty five wins, their seasons should be over.
They shouldn't be trying to get to thirty eight so
they can make it as the tenth seed in the East.
It's stupid. They're bad at basketball. Why do you want
them to play more basketball? They're not good at it.
See that's how I felt about the Astros this year.
Baseball's different. The worst base the Rockies won forty five
(01:47:45):
times this year. They're the equivalent of a nine win
NBA team. They can't win a play and it's a
game they can't win, like the bad basketball teams can't win.
Speaker 4 (01:47:55):
That's why they don't win the play in tournament games.
Speaker 5 (01:47:57):
The seven and eight seed haven't made it one hundred
percent of the time, but they've made it a high
percentage of the time, and they've set it up where
they've actually made it even more difficult. You got to
win twice if you're the ten or in the nine,
and I like that, or essentially the eight if you
lose once, but you have that option to lose once.
But if it's really just the top eight, you usually
need forty four forty five wins to get there to
(01:48:18):
be a top eight, which is where you belong. That
doesn't sound like you're letting bad teams in in college
basketball moving forward, these teams are bad. They some of
them will be a game or two over five hundred
three games over, they'll be seventeen and fourteen, and six
of those seventeen wins will be against teams that are
ranked in the two hundred and eighties and the three hundreds.
Speaker 4 (01:48:37):
It's silly, all right, you know I feel about college
basketball to begin with.
Speaker 5 (01:48:41):
So now you're putting more teams that aren't worth They
didn't earn it, they didn't play well enough to get there.
I like the nca Tournament's awesome. It's so much fun.
And the way it's set up to give you Thursday
through Sunday and back to back weeks of nothing but
all day basketball, and then the final week Saturday and Sunday.
It's awesome, and you always it's the it's hard to
(01:49:01):
put together because you have too much material. One shining
moment is you could have a fifty minute segment of
it because there's so many things you see in every tournament.
All these teams that are played this is their last
game until they play another game, until they've earned another
It's awesome.
Speaker 4 (01:49:17):
I love it. And you can see upsets. You always
see upsets.
Speaker 5 (01:49:20):
It's Cinderella matters to people in sports. It's one of
the reasons we love sports. But you just don't need to.
You're not making it better, you're just making it bigger.
Speaker 4 (01:49:30):
Speaking of that, I mean, since we're on the subject
of the tournament trajectory wise, and if you graph it out,
shouldn't this finally be the year that you have h
wins at all.
Speaker 5 (01:49:40):
One thing on that we didn't mention it happened a
little over a week ago. They had to get their
tournament games coming through Houston this year as a regional site,
so they Cougar's had originally been scheduled to be the
host university, whatever local university of the area where the
games are being played, they're.
Speaker 4 (01:49:57):
The host university. Most hosts cities for those events don't
have two or three different colleges to choose from. Houston
obviously does, but they chose YOUU of H intentionally. But
because U of H is likely to play their way through,
they will want to send them here, which you're not
allowed to do if they're the host school. So Rice
is now the host school for that and U of
(01:50:19):
H is going to assist.
Speaker 5 (01:50:21):
So should they play their way into and on their
way through Houston, they will now be allowed to play
here in Houston. And I sure like what they're bringing back.
I sure like what they have coming in every year
for the last five years.
Speaker 4 (01:50:34):
I think at least four.
Speaker 5 (01:50:36):
If you told me u of h is going to
win the national title, then I would have said, yeah,
I think so, and I haven't even seen him play
this year, but they definitely have that kind of team
coming back.
Speaker 4 (01:50:44):
Yeah, that's how confident we are in Kelvin Sampson. The
Cleveland Guardians are threatening, believe it or not, in the
bottom of the eighth, plus a little bit of a
leftover from what's up with that. It's just a crazy
story I saw evolving, Shack. We'll tell you about that.
Speaker 1 (01:51:01):
Next the eight on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 4 (01:51:11):
Back here on the eighteen websay, see Cole Thompson with you.
Speaker 5 (01:51:14):
Fireworks on the diamond in both ballparks. Currently, Chicago Cubs
clearly benefiting from Kyle Tucker bringing his sign stealing scandal
ways over to the Cubs.
Speaker 4 (01:51:25):
Bang bang U Darvish lasted.
Speaker 5 (01:51:28):
Twenty one pitches of his Game three start for the
Padres after Kyle Tucker was the first of four consecutive
batters to reach in the second inning, and that was
all that manager of the Padres needed to see. He
pulled U Darvish so the reliever Estrada could issue a
walk with the bases loaded and gives the Cubs eight
two nothing lead. That's where things currently sit. They still
(01:51:49):
have the bases loaded. Over in Cleveland. Jose Ramirez just
who you asked for. He was up to bat with
two out and two runners in scoring position. He laced
one down the first base line line, which the first
basement easily scooped up and fired over to his covering pitcher,
Will Vest who promptly decided not to catch it and
it rolled away from him. Two runs scored, but he
(01:52:10):
did recover in time to throw out Jose Ramirez trying
to get to second very easily actually, but it still
had to go to review because they umpire missed the call.
Speaker 4 (01:52:19):
And that's it. Through eight.
Speaker 5 (01:52:21):
Tigers take a three run lead six' three to the
ninth inning and The cubs still, batting trying to add
to their two to nothing lead in the bottom of
the second At. Wrigley, obviously the two teams currently leading
would like to stay that.
Speaker 4 (01:52:34):
Way they will advance if that. Happens did you see

to deliver this line in the way that you suggest.
Speaker 4 (01:55:58):
People like my. Feet, yeah that's a good point on
that specific. Category that's that's.
Speaker 5 (01:56:06):
Wild but, YEAH i, Mean, shaq this is A i
would assume most anybody who could like anybody who went,
there anybody that's moderately, famous and she is moderately, famous
extremely famous in these, circles the opportunity to go take
a picture With, shaq the opportunity to jump by his,
table and even of course you're going to do, it
(01:56:26):
by the.
Speaker 4 (01:56:26):
Way she also wighed in to dispel the. RUMORS i
don't know how to do an impression of her BECAUSE
i don't know what she sounds. LIKE i don't know
how taking a single photo With shaq had the internet
drawing conclusions that we must be. Dating and there are
two crying laughing emojis following, that because you always like
it WHEN i include the emojis as long as you
know what they. ARE i, MEAN i GUESS i didn't
(01:56:48):
know who she was UNTIL i saw this. STORY i
mean that must make me an old.
Speaker 5 (01:56:52):
Me, too did not know who she was Until adam
brought her up for the first time today here On october,
two middle of the.
Speaker 4 (01:56:58):
Afternoon nobody's buying it when you just said earlier in
the segment you did know who she was for the new,
listeners he's made that. UP i definitely did not do.
That who she.
Speaker 5 (01:57:07):
Is it's pretty easy to know who almost anybody is
that's become social media, famous, TikTok even only fans famous
because they're on all these, platforms even if that's not
what they're doing on this particular. Platform that's why they
are that. Mean if you, just for, instance for show,
PURPOSES i went to her TikTok. Page, Research, well she's
(01:57:31):
got all of her clothes on on her TikTok. Page
well that's. Good thirteen point seven million followers on her TikTok.
Speaker 4 (01:57:37):
Page what does she?
Speaker 5 (01:57:40):
Do people who are on social media or have accounts
on each of these PLATFORMS i do if you scroll,
followers see them less than the, one less than the. One,
okay my TikTok Count for those of you that like to,
follow it's At ADAM. J. Wexler it's your. Choice if
you'd like to see WHAT i produce on, TikTok it's pretty.
Speaker 4 (01:57:58):
Lame you there who are still listening somehow to this
conversation officially die. Inside let me just tell you about.
This she has gained, prominence this Is sophie Rain u
in the past few months by revealing that she makes
nearly as much money from her subscription site as some
of the TOP nba. Players, QUOTE i almost made more
(01:58:19):
Than lebron last. Year he made fifty six. MILLION i
made forty. Three what is she doing on TikTok to
make forty three? Million and how CAN i do? It,
well she's not getting. There she's getting it up from
some other. Places if you charge for a, subscription and
even though it's a very small fee relatively, speaking and
(01:58:40):
you have that many people, subscribing that's how you're making
that much. MONEY i, Mean teresa keeps threatening to open
an account just so we can make some side, money
And i'm fine with it at this. Point if she's
making forty three, million Then teresa could at least pull
down a chunk of.
Speaker 5 (01:58:53):
Change you can make money on social. Media it currently
is rather easy if you have the equipment for, it
to make money on social media with out the use
of your.
Speaker 4 (01:59:03):
CLOTHES i didn't say she was going to do. That
that's WHAT i.
Speaker 5 (01:59:06):
Said you can make even more if you're you, know
if you're right for the, platform be your.
Speaker 4 (01:59:11):
Choice she's going to do fee. Two you should do.
One nobody wants to see. ME i think they want
to see. ME i don't. Know try it, out let
us know how it. Goes what a world forty three?
Million coming up? Next Foot? FINDER i mean football at
five here on Sports talk seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (01:59:31):
The eighteen On Sports talk seven.
Speaker 3 (01:59:33):
Ninety Adam clinton And Adam wexler are the eighteen.
Speaker 5 (01:59:47):
Moving on to football at five To Troy tigers moving
on to The American League Division.
Speaker 4 (01:59:54):
Series cleveland, fan you know, What cleveland fan.
Speaker 5 (01:59:58):
Good six to three the final in their game. Three
so The, tigers they do what very few teams have
been able to do and they move on as the
last team to get in an eighty seven and seventy
Five American League baseball team is playing in The Division
series Starting. Saturday, houston who finished with the exact same.
Speaker 4 (02:00:19):
Record, yeah and didn't they clinch by a hit by?
Speaker 5 (02:00:22):
Pitch are they clenched in via The tybreger via winning
four of the series games against The astros and they're
Six so they're the team that gets to go From
cleveland To, seattle AND i will open their series up On.
Speaker 4 (02:00:33):
Saturday LIKE i, said you know What I've i've always wondered,
about and they're showing it right. Now SO Aj hinch
being undefeated in The Wildcard series all, Time, No, no
and it doesn't this doesn't have to be in a
home or road. Environment but when when a team loses
in baseball, specifically and they stay in the, dugout or
(02:00:57):
they stay up on the step of the dugout and they.
Watch i've never understood.
Speaker 5 (02:01:02):
That one thing that is a little bit out of the.
Ordinaries you're watching them show The guardians, dugout and players
are hugging each other or walking in there around there.
Slowly there are a few players still straggling through as
they watch The tigers celebrate on their, field which is
what The astros did at this time a year ago
after Their game two. Loss But chase The water is
one of Those guardians, players and he was hugging a
(02:01:24):
couple of his teammates and is grabbing his gear and
making his way back into the. Clubhouse the only three
games he played for The tigers or The guardians this
year were these playoff. Games he wasn't with the team
during the season at. All he made his major league
debut here in the place like al so like is.
It i'm sure he wants to win just like they.
Do but he wasn't in the fight all. Year he
(02:01:46):
wasn't grinding it out with these. Guys he didn't even
know these.
Speaker 4 (02:01:48):
Guys but, like, OKAY i specifically Remember atlanta for, Example
astros had played with house money all season. Long just
to give you an idea of how that season. Went as
they went to The World series, Again lance mccullors was their,
Ace and WHEN i knew That atlanta was going to
clinch on their, FIELD i didn't even wait to see
(02:02:10):
the final. OUT i packed up my stuff AND i
got out of. THERE i was in a bad. MOOD
i don't understand why these players sit there on the
dugout and stare at another, team especially on their, field for,
example celebrating as their season comes to an. End give
me back into the. Clubhouse IF i have media, obligations
let me get them out of the way SO i
(02:02:30):
can get into the offseason and get out of this miserable.
Speaker 5 (02:02:33):
Environment that's HOW i would. Be, yeah they're not like.
That they're just sitting there in disbelief and barely even
know what to. Do so they watch it for a
while and then they go sit in their locker for a.
While then they hug guys and talk about sit, there
head and hands and. There then they do their media
and then they.
Speaker 4 (02:02:47):
Leave nowhere was this more prominent than when Al tuo
they hit the walk off against The. Yankees now some
of them got out of dodge like they wanted. To
but look at a roll This. Chapman he, smiled, yeah
which was really. Weird Hey Tyree, kill why are you?
Smiling you just got your metaphorical leg snapped by Jose
(02:03:07):
Al tuvey walking you. Off but some of those guys
like standing there watching The astros celebrate after just the
most excruciating gut punch.
Speaker 5 (02:03:16):
Loss field side reporter for this game ON, espn finishing
up her on field interview With Alex.
Speaker 4 (02:03:21):
Zavilli you know what her next assignment? Is who is
that S taylor. McGregor It's saturday night football right here
AT Tdecu. Stadium she will be the sideline reporter A
tdcu for the u OF H Texas tech game on
The Worldwide. Leader she seems, nice friend of the.
Speaker 5 (02:03:35):
Show she came on one day where you were out last,
year right Before texas And clemson got.
Speaker 4 (02:03:40):
Together she was working that.
Speaker 5 (02:03:41):
Game, YEAH i remember she Does cubs during the season
and DOES espn sidelines during the football. SEASON i remember
not doing that. Interview, Yeah i'm sure you. Do so
that gets. US i segued us to, football always keeping
us on track football at, five that, is to, me
the game of the, weekend and we will obviously talk about.
It if you were listening earlier on the, SHOW i
brought up a list OF nfl quarterbacks THAT i, saw
(02:04:01):
and now a chance to get back to. It a
measurement of the hardest throwers max, velocity max ball speed
on throws of twenty miles an hour or twenty yards
down the field or. Longer so amidst this, list it
also notes how many of those passes there have, been
and UNSURPRISINGLY. Cj stroud's on the lower End mastros or
(02:04:26):
The rockets or The, texans The texans have not attempted
as many as some other. Teams not dead last and
far from, it but certainly on the lower end of.
Things he's attempted forty two such passes through the first
four weeks of the. Season So i'll ask both of
you to offer your guesses the legitimate starting, Quarterbacks so
(02:04:47):
Not Jake browning Or Dylan gabriel's ordn't, Well Dylan, GABRIEL
i have any of, them but of the guys that
have we started the, years the starters start with the
top five hardest, throwers and Then i'll ask you about
the bottom five weakest. Throwers and mind, you we're talking
about the bottom of the list is fifty point two
eight miles an. Hour the top of the list is
(02:05:09):
fifty nine point. Seven it's not like there's but clearly
some throw harder than. Others so a guess or two
who he thinks at the top of the list the hardest.
Speaker 4 (02:05:19):
Throwers, Well Josh allen's got to be on the. Top
he is number. Five Is Aaron rodgers still up?
Speaker 5 (02:05:26):
There, NO i would have guessed him on the other
end of the, list and that's exactly where he is.
Speaker 4 (02:05:30):
Is, really, yes.
Speaker 5 (02:05:31):
He is one of the slightest, THROWERS i, guess but
he also has.
Speaker 4 (02:05:38):
Very few of those.
Speaker 5 (02:05:39):
PASSES i believe he has the third fewest, attempts fourth fewest.
Speaker 4 (02:05:42):
Attempts.
Speaker 5 (02:05:44):
Dak see you brought him up, earlier AND i could
not have been more. Wrong dak is number one on
the list, attempts but he's near the bottom in. Velocity really, yeah,
wow what A week's his favorite? Quarterback he's near the.
Top he's right Behind Josh. Allen Justin herbert is so
last on the. LIST i kind of indicated who this
was earlier WHEN i was talking About Tyreek.
Speaker 4 (02:06:05):
Hills In.
Speaker 5 (02:06:07):
Tua's, bottom he's number one slowest least. Velocity it's just over.
Fifty the player that's playing For brock For Max jones
is playing For. Brock Purty perty's next, slowest And lamar's.
There NOW i kind of explained WHY i think that's
there one small sample, size and two he just doesn't
have as many plays where he's trying to throw these
deep passes and fit it into this. Window he's lofting
(02:06:31):
balls down the field after he's run out of a
sack because this guy's behind, everybody or he's made. It
he's thrown a twenty four yard pass instead of a
forty five or fifty or fifty five yard. Pass they've
got average air distance in, there and again there's not much,
separation but it's it's.
Speaker 4 (02:06:48):
A little bit of an. Indicator SO i gave you
the bottom of the.
Speaker 5 (02:06:50):
List drake may is also down there among current, starters
and Then Aaron rodgers among the thirty two that started the.
Year there the top, five So herbert, Six, Allen Caleb williams,
four Bon nicks. Three really, yep that was.
Speaker 4 (02:07:05):
The shocking one of.
Speaker 5 (02:07:06):
Me, well see to, me that's a little bit like
how you watch, him he's just firing the ball over the.
PLACE i think he puts more into his throws and
has to physically exert more into his, throws and maybe
that's one of the reasons.
Speaker 4 (02:07:18):
Why he's at that.
Speaker 5 (02:07:19):
Spot so Bo nix is, three one more chance to
get either of the top Two. Baker baker is just
outside the top top.
Speaker 4 (02:07:29):
Ten he's. Eleven, Okay Gino, smith he's number, One Boom
so all that's left is.
Speaker 5 (02:07:34):
Two It's Spencer. Rattler i'm not gonna make you guess
The saints. Quarterback thank, You you're.
Speaker 4 (02:07:38):
Welcome so what does that tell you that it doesn't
matter bad quarterbacks throw?
Speaker 5 (02:07:43):
FAST i, Mean Gino smith did earn his second lucrative
contract in his, career SO i don't know that i'd
call him. Bad he's just not among the most rated
quarterbacks throw. Fast, WELL i, mean here's the top Six
alan And herbert And nix playoffs last, Year rattler And
williams second year players And Gino.
Speaker 4 (02:08:05):
Smith it really doesn't tell you much of. Anything and
what was the? Range fifty five fifty point two was the,
slowest fifty nine point seven was the. Fastest so we
were just talking about nine miles per hour because they
all throw hard during THE nfl to a certain, Degree, yes.
EXACTLY i wonder if, like there's got to be there's
(02:08:28):
got to be like a major league pitcher that can
throw a beautiful spiral and can throw it insanely faster than,
that simply because he's a major league, pitcher even though
the mechanics are all, different but where he's more, right, like, well,
No i'm not worried about location or. Accuracy i'm just saying.
Speaker 5 (02:08:48):
These guys that were tabulating the, statistics, yawn they. Are
this isn't on the side, Field this isn't at the amusement.
Speaker 4 (02:08:54):
Park or the. Car i'm just talking About i'd like
to see somebody throw a football faster Than i've ever seen,
before AND i feel like they would be the best.
Speaker 5 (02:09:00):
Candidates, well occasionally at the amusement, park the football display
the football game includes an. Mph it's all the baseball throw,
always that's what you're there. For you're not necessarily trying
to knock over the. Pins but the football, game you're
trying to throw it through this hole or throw it.
There it's not usually for Velocity.
Speaker 4 (02:09:17):
I'm all about doing the thing where you hit the
WHAT'S i, mean it's not it you're trying to get
the bell. Hit but what's the thing you you? Hammer
it's a little platform you hammer. It try to get
that thing all the way to the tie like. That,
yeah strong, man is that what it? Is, yes, BASICALLY
i didn't know that's what it was. CALLED i was
looking for the. Name thank.
Speaker 5 (02:09:37):
You, well that's what you're trying to. Do prove your.
Strength how hard can you hit? This plus all those.
Speaker 4 (02:09:41):
Other games that you're talking about where you throw stuff at,
things they're all, rigged especially the basketball, hoops the tightest rims,
ever everything else is. Rigged everything is rigged out a,
carnival that's, true because they're carnies And i'm trying to
take your. Money you're giving it to. Them they. Don't
you don't have to give to. Them every time we
go to that, Stuff i'm, like why aren't you doing?
Speaker 5 (02:10:02):
This like they don't put their hands in your, well
they don't scroll down on your phone to what they
need to scan to take your.
Speaker 4 (02:10:09):
Money you hand it to, them and it's it's the.
Same it's it's. Gambling, yeah but there's a tiny bit
of skill.
Speaker 5 (02:10:16):
Involved usually most of the, games they will a lot of,
them especially the throwing. Ones they'll show you it being,
done like the whiffle ball that you have to bounce
off the wall and have it land in the laundry. Basket,
yeah at the, angle they'll usually show you, Here, no it's.
Speaker 4 (02:10:33):
Easy watch boom and two. Tries they'll get like even
the you know the ones where they line up all
like the hundreds of bottles and you're trying to get
it around the top of. It yeahs are. Rigged the
bottles are rigged, Somehow oh they. Are, yeah they play
bouncing material on.
Speaker 7 (02:10:48):
There what they do is they make the they make
it too big for the ring to fit. Around on
the ones that you're trying to win, whatever they're all,
rigged so figure it. Out they're terrible, people they're. Not
they are trying to take your.
Speaker 4 (02:11:00):
All, right we'll continue here five o'clock hour as we wind, Down,
dude it's Almost friday, already and before you know, it
The texans are going to have their first ever victory In.
Baltimore otherwise that one guy on social media is going
to be super embarrassed when they don't.
Speaker 1 (02:11:16):
The at On Sports talk seven Ninety.
Speaker 4 (02:11:27):
In case you missed, it straight ahead tickets to give
away will tell you about right, now although we won't
give them away right. Now four pack tickets To Monster
jam complete with pit, passes, which by the, way if
you've never been to, that that IS i think that's
one of our better. Giveaways the pit pass is insane
because you're down there on the actual dirt and if
(02:11:47):
you've never been on the surface of where the field
is AT Nrg, stadium it's also a cool. Experience it's
not a football, game but it. Is it is the same,
building and those trucks up close and personal are fantastic
for the little. One so, anyways all of that is to,
say four pack of tickets to that with those pit.
Passes It's Monster Jam october, eighteenth over AT Nrg. Stadium
(02:12:11):
tickets are also on sale now at ticketmaster dot. Com
plus a pair of tickets to see The Houston cougars
in Their Houston blue uniforms is a take On Texas
Tech Family night This, Saturday october fourth AT Tdecu. Stadium
we were just talking about. That you can go to
Uh cougars dot. Com slash tickets are called, seven one to,
Three Go kougs now to get your. Tickets come, early be.
(02:12:32):
Loud where Your Houston? BLUE i wish we could call
It columbia.
Speaker 5 (02:12:37):
Blue, Still houston blue is pretty good way to reference.
Speaker 4 (02:12:41):
It and it does look. Awesome field's gonna be.
Speaker 5 (02:12:43):
Sweet the unis are great and hopefully the football goes
right along with. It and also in the fact that
they're playing The Red, raiders you know a little differentiation
between the, two but you wouldn't be too confused.
Speaker 4 (02:12:53):
Otherwise what's the deal where they throw the tortillas on the.
Speaker 5 (02:12:56):
Field h they have some dumb tradition at a different
universe where they throw totia's on the.
Speaker 4 (02:13:01):
FIELD i would have said it about any. University i'm
not is about the tweet civic to.
Speaker 5 (02:13:05):
Them i'm being specific to, them not BEING u of
h or not Doing they don't do it just at, home,
Right they do it on the road if they're. There
do they have to win to do? It it has
nothing to do with. That so what is this like
the octopus in?
Speaker 4 (02:13:20):
Hockey? No not? Really why do they do?
Speaker 7 (02:13:22):
It?
Speaker 4 (02:13:23):
NO i, mean, Thanks. Scottie there's only so many words
THAT i can say Once cole SE's Boogie knights to
understand that they don't have to win the. Game they
don't have to even do something at the. Game oftentimes
it's right there at, kickoff and that's when they fulling
them on the. Field it's like the cow bells And.
Starkfield they're just. THERE i, DON'T i, DON'T i don't get.
It throwing stuff on the. Field college football tradition is,
(02:13:47):
okay so is taking down.
Speaker 5 (02:13:49):
Goalposts you can still do it in your university is
just gonna get dinged for.
Speaker 4 (02:13:53):
It how's? That is there a set number of five
hundred k five? K, yeah your university which cannot Control
yes they. Can, no they can't. Something, yes some universities
can because wants to come out of. Stands you're not controlling.
That that's one hundred thousand.
Speaker 5 (02:14:10):
People, well one hundred thousand people aren't on the field
in any storm the court to or storm.
Speaker 4 (02:14:15):
Six you're not stopping.
Speaker 5 (02:14:17):
Them it can you can keep the goalposts from being
torn to.
Speaker 4 (02:14:21):
KIDS a lot don't come on the field because we.
Speaker 5 (02:14:23):
Don't you think it's, Impossible but there are places that
don't storm the field like. That, now unlike what happened
at The Virginia Florida state, game WHERE i, mean the
easiest thing for everybody to, say and everybody was saying
it because visually that's exactly what it looked. Like they
had to play in the corner of the end zone
down in, overtime they needed to touchdown and then ultimately
another two point conversion to. Tie so he threw it
(02:14:44):
in the corner of the end, zone right where all
the fans are going to come rushing on the field
if it's, incomplete which it, was and the player not
only didn't catch, it he was down trying to catch
he was on the. Turf apparently he wasn't trampled to
death or killed or anything like. That but it's absolutely
what it like would have happened. There and that's REALLY
i know it sounds soft and, all but it's the
(02:15:05):
real reason you shouldn't have it happen because you're not
trying to. Control you, know if fifty thousand people ran
on the field and there was nobody, there it would be.
Fine but the other team is there and that's who
you're concerned. About and it happened in this game with
a fan rolling by another group of, players and you
just flipping the bird at. Them we've seen fans get
(02:15:26):
in players'. Faces we've seen fans get hit because they've
done something to a. Player players probably pretty ticked. Off
and even a fan who isn't intending to do. Anything,
well they're running on the field and they run into,
them they bump a shoulder into. Them, well they don't
know what's going on. There they're just trying to get
off the. Field they're just trying to get. Back you're
just talking about this a huge, loss and what are
you hanging around on the field. For believe, me college
football players after they lose do not want to hang
(02:15:48):
out on the, field especially one that's being. Stormed and
yet there's only so much they can. Do there's only
so much security to both keep people from them and
guide them off the. Field so it's not a really great.
Situation and if nothing, happens and you, know the players
have already kind of gotten out of harm's way and
it's not an overwhelming rush, immediate then, yeah it's of
course it's fun for the fans to be on the
(02:16:09):
court or on the, field jumping up and down with
some of the winning, players some of their. Classmates i'm
sure they have classes with lots of. THEM i know that,
guy and it is, cool but it is also.
Speaker 4 (02:16:19):
DANGEROUS i will say this having just been TO dkr
a couple of weekends. AGO i Know i'm in the
minority on this show and a lot of people Probably
i'm in the minority with WHERE i you, Know i'm
more of a pro. Guy BUT i understand why people
like the pageantry aspect of college football in addition to
the game. Itself, yeah, well what could.
Speaker 5 (02:16:41):
Be better than your one in three head football coach
running onto the field and death valley the other death
valley Like dabo?
Speaker 4 (02:16:48):
Does why are their two death? Valleys is the more important?
Play it's just so. Dumb BUT i will say this
having been to DK r for the first time since the,
renovations AND i looked it up BEFORE i brought this.
Up their capacity is just over one. Hundred it's one
hundred and one. NINETEEN i Think Kyle field is one
(02:17:09):
oh two, Seven so in that range for a football,
game for a football, game not For george. Concert that's one,
eleven which was Just eclipse the other. Day just see.
That so you're talking about, Capacities, yeah so they don't
have that in THE, Nfl, like what's the biggest, Stadium Jerry?
World you can get for A Super?
Speaker 5 (02:17:25):
Bowl at AN nfl, stadium you can get more than
a REGULAR nfl, game because there's ways that they create,
Seats but seventy low seventies is basically the high.
Speaker 4 (02:17:34):
THRESHOLD i guess my question is why is that the?
Case why on average DO nfl stadiums only cater to
seventy ish thousand? People because if it's so popular as
we're all told it, is and it.
Speaker 5 (02:17:48):
Is look AT dkr for, instance it's slowly, changing but
it will never change into AN nfl. Stadium the that,
like let's say you're seated on the press box, side
so look at the other. Side it's enormous rows of.
Bleachers you can see more people in bleachers than actual
seats because you're with seatbacks that are sold.
Speaker 4 (02:18:04):
And the guy that was in front of me absolutely
should have paid for three. Tickets and they're far fewer.
Speaker 5 (02:18:11):
High dollar suites to be sold in college, stadiums which
otherwise can just be.
Speaker 4 (02:18:17):
Seats DID i tell you how many?
Speaker 5 (02:18:19):
Seats how many people are buying tickets for this huge
area that's a club seat where you could you put
fifty people in that space if it, were of, course
so that's that's. Way but they aren't in the college
football state of.
Speaker 4 (02:18:31):
Luxury they. Are DID i tell you about the CONVERSATION
i had with your daughter about, well you're sitting with?
HER i don't. Know you probably had several this. GUY
i took a picture AND i sent it to. YOU
i have it this. Guy you know they're like charging
people for extra seats on. Airlines, now this guy absolutely
should have paid for two. SEATS i had my. HAND i,
Mean i'm sitting on the, bleachers even seats that's not
(02:18:52):
even that the. Bleachers he was. Gorilla he was. Enormous
he was that too and Sw, yeah but he's sitting.
There this is where it gets really. BAD i understand
that not all of us are the same dimensions, Wise,
okay this guy is in front of. Me he keeps
(02:19:13):
each one of his hamhock elbows that were just absolutely
just just dripping in, sweat keep rubbing up against my.
Knees And i'm sitting there like a normal, person, RIGHT
i had to SO i didn't have to get. Disgusting
it was like a short sleeve sweater shirt that was
completely you could have wrung this thing, out and so
(02:19:35):
what does he? Do he gets up And i'm, like,
oh thank, god some. Relief what does he come back?
With he and his buddy an entire pizza And i'm
not talking about a small. One, yes you are an,
entire huge ball. Pizza and he's dipping it in the
marinara sauce and the ranch and he's alternating it and
(02:19:56):
he keeps rubbing his elbows on. Me i'm like the
outdoor sweating. Experience. Man so this was a night, game
six o'clock, KICKOFF i can't even. Imagine so it was dinner.
Time yea suffering through? This he, had he had his. Dinner.
Speaker 7 (02:20:10):
Man both you guys met such wonderful people when you
went to the.
Speaker 5 (02:20:13):
GAMES i didn't have any issue with the people around.
ME i barely even told the story of the. Vomitter
now in the face he looked Like John.
Speaker 4 (02:20:19):
Weeks SO i was really struggling Because john's such a
nice guy and he didn't look like.
Speaker 5 (02:20:24):
That, though, well he's got to play. Football presumably the
guy in front of you doesn't also play. Football he
could have blocked FOR C. J stroud And i'd feel
confident that's.
Speaker 4 (02:20:35):
ME i don't. Care, CLEARLY i just don't rub your
sweaty elbows against my. Knees the way further, AWAY i.
Couldn't there were bleachers back. UP dkr is Like i'm
million years.
Speaker 5 (02:20:46):
Old one eight four four nine the attendance for The
Aggies auburn. GAME i had double check to look it
up because the friend of mine that texted ME i
obviously wanted a double. Check standing room nailed. It eight
thousand and four forty. NINE i think that's their third
straight game with over one. Hundred, yeah has he been TO.
Speaker 4 (02:21:06):
Dkr?
Speaker 5 (02:21:07):
Uh if he's, listening he'll have to. Answer i'm gonna Guess.
No they're gonna be over this weekend for the. Black
he's been to many many games as at his alma,
mater which Is TEXAS a AND.
Speaker 4 (02:21:16):
M i bet he. HAD i bet if he has
been A dkr Or Kyle, field he hasn't had the
experience THAT i. Did why because He why? Not because
the guy was four bills the, disgust you. Hole it's
just he's just a. Guy he's a football. Fan oh
DID i MENTION i was trying to eat before that
a much smaller.
Speaker 5 (02:21:37):
Portion, no you. Didn't if he had a radio. Show
i'm sure he'd be saying something about. You, Right i'm that.
Fair MAYBE i didn't like totally sell him.
Speaker 4 (02:21:46):
Out all, right when we come back in case you missed,
it Maybe cole had a bad experience at a college football,
stadium and he'll tell us about.
Speaker 1 (02:21:53):
It the a On Sports talk seven Ninety.
Speaker 7 (02:22:02):
All.
Speaker 4 (02:22:02):
Right that music means it's time for in case you missed,
it and you should probably start paying attention if you
haven't already the things that we are saying so you
can win. Tickets next, segment.
Speaker 5 (02:22:13):
Very, good but mentioned you got The Monstra jam tickets
and the tickets to you of h And Texas tech
This saturday.
Speaker 4 (02:22:17):
Night i'll be out.
Speaker 5 (02:22:18):
There encourage you to stop by the Bud light backyard
tailgate on your way inside the. Stadium we'll be out
there early and you say, hello share some, SuDS and
then we'll go Enjoy cougar.
Speaker 4 (02:22:28):
Football give those.
Speaker 5 (02:22:29):
Away in the final segment of the, show ask you
a question about something we've discussed this. Hour usually that's
something we just discussed during the five point thirty, segment
which is in case you missed, it which is right,
now we'll start with some. Basketball they are ready for the.
Season they have practiced two days To rockets training camp
a couple days In nowaday. Three, Today Kevin durant spending
(02:22:50):
a few minutes for the second time now with the
Local houston. Media he was asked about most of his
teammates when he sat down With matt And ross and
when he, said down with the rest of the media
and Now i'll spend a few more minutes on the
court with them over the last couple of, days So,
cole he was once again asked to discuss one of
his very unique.
Speaker 7 (02:23:09):
Teammates, YEAH i definitely want to get a little bit
more insight on what does a Men thompson bring to
this roster going into a pivotal third. Year and let's
just say THE Kd bay impressed boy seem for the
young gun so.
Speaker 2 (02:23:22):
Far this thing he's just.
Speaker 10 (02:23:23):
UNIQUE i, Mean i'm not saying he's better or, worse
BUT i just think he's unique and just his style
and just his quick. Twist And i'm, like it's like
when you're in front of, it it's just a it's just,
different you, Know it's just it's it's a separation where
you're watching on on on a clip or. Something his
lanth is how he uses as uh his second jump
(02:23:44):
and you.
Speaker 7 (02:23:45):
Know on both, eat you, know off one.
Speaker 10 (02:23:47):
Foot it's ridiculous how he can go from taking a
spend and just jumping off the ground so. Fast it's
just his launch passage is, different, man and it's only
gonna get.
Speaker 4 (02:23:56):
BETTER i am.
Speaker 7 (02:23:57):
Calling An All star season ahead For Amen.
Speaker 4 (02:23:59):
Thoms the league is compmpletely.
Speaker 5 (02:24:00):
Bleeped, yeah we saw what he's talking about in very
very specific terms many many times last year when we
were behind the MIC's over At Toyota center or here in.
Studio he'll go into the lane and he will be
in traffic and he'll put his shot up and before
anybody else can grab the, miss he's already dunked it.
Down how he missed the, shot but he's already gotten
(02:24:22):
off his feet for the second time and put it
back down through the.
Speaker 4 (02:24:25):
Hoot the other end where you do the same.
Speaker 5 (02:24:27):
Thing you back him in and you spind and you
put up your shot over your left shoulder and he blocks,
it and then you grab it and you got the,
shot and he blocks that, too and he blocks that,
too and then he tips the.
Speaker 4 (02:24:36):
Ball he goes to the, rarely but he still recovers
in time to still block your. Shot, yeah and he really.
Speaker 5 (02:24:41):
Did you, Know we're gonna get a lot of really
insightful comments From kevin throughout the season about, anything and
certainly about his. Teammates he was pretty clear AND i
think couldn't be more. Accurate he's not trying to tell
you he's better than other. Players he's. Unique there are
a few players can that have that particular skill that
plays on the basketball. Court we're not talking about as,
(02:25:02):
dribbling as, shooting or we're talking about an athletic ability
to do something that few other players in the league
right now can do as well as. Him and that's
the second jump or the awkward, jump the off balance,
jump the one those. Things it gets you an extra,
possession it extends a, Possession it takes a possession away
from the other, team and down the stretch when there
it becomes so. Valuable those those are winning plays that
(02:25:24):
you crank up The Amen thompson second line of the box,
score and below it you see thirty one points For,
durant and above it you see a double double For
Alpie and on his line he scored thirteen points and
had seven rebounds doesn't show you. That it doesn't tell
you that the play that probably won them the game was.
Speaker 4 (02:25:41):
His and if your name's not Read shepherd Or Aaron,
holliday you're. Huge that's the theme of this upcoming. Year
you're gonna see that a bunch of seven foot wing span.
Freaks they're gonna play volleyball with your. Shot.
Speaker 5 (02:25:53):
Yeah one of the other things That em mentioned he
said there's, times and he described it this. Way he,
goes there's times we can, play you, know bully, ball
and he talked about lineups that could feature like your
you could play double. Big let's say they're they're running
the double big. Lineup so two of your three Centers,
Steven clint And, alpi and then the three playing with
(02:26:14):
those Two Amen jabbari And. Kevin, NOW i wouldn't call
any of them, bullies but the length that that five
player group would have, defensively you're get they're getting all the, rebounds.
Speaker 4 (02:26:24):
How and how are you even making an entry pass
into the? Post you're.
Speaker 5 (02:26:27):
Not it's it sounds like they're going to give teams fits,
physically and.
Speaker 4 (02:26:34):
Then you walk over to the sidelines and their coach
is gonna verbally murder you. Too.
Speaker 5 (02:26:38):
Yeah Dorian Finney smith actually talked about that when he
was talking about what did you know about this?
Speaker 4 (02:26:42):
Team would you?
Speaker 5 (02:26:43):
Like he, said When i'm When i'm, PLAYING i do
like to look over at the other team's, bench how
the reactions are going and. Things and he was talking
about E ma being stone, faced and he said when
he first he had dinner with him after he'd signed
and say he is the first TIME i saw him.
Speaker 4 (02:26:55):
Smile, Yeah, well they weren't playing exactly what else do we?
Speaker 7 (02:26:59):
Have so recently came out with an article featuring the
top five teams that gained the most experience or value
from the offseason heading into this YEAR'S nba, season and
The rockets naturally made the. List they come in at
number two after gaining In Kevin, Durant Drian Finney, Smith Josh,
kogi And Clint. Capella Or under the, article The rockets
landed the best player to change teams this offseason In.
(02:27:20):
Durant we've been at age thirty. Six with the diminished
supporting cast In, phoenix still averaged twenty point six points
per game last. Season they will need him to help
approach the waking departures that BROCKATY. D, houston which Included
Jalen green And Dylan. Brooks and now how to do
without the with the missing element that is the torn
acl suffered By fred Van, vliet who's supposed to have
(02:27:42):
a big role with The rockets.
Speaker 4 (02:27:43):
Contention now without.
Speaker 7 (02:27:44):
Guessing if they're number, two who is number?
Speaker 4 (02:27:47):
ONE i can't. Participate it's you already. Know, YES i
haven't seen. THIS i don't, know But i'm trying to
think of somebody that got somebody older The Western.
Speaker 5 (02:28:01):
Conference let's look are The Western conference contenders and some
of the moves that they Made. DENVER i don't think
it's a bad guess because THE mpg, deal but that
seems like it kind of cancels one. Ago because they're
talking about value, added they're being, literally they're being under statistically,
speaking who gained more wins above?
Speaker 7 (02:28:15):
Replacement they were on the, list they were number, three
but not number. ONE i would have eventually guessed them because.
Speaker 4 (02:28:21):
That's on the.
Speaker 7 (02:28:23):
List it's The clippers who they Add Chris, paul Brook
Lopez bradley Beyond John.
Speaker 4 (02:28:29):
Collins, Oh Chris paul alone put them over the.
Speaker 5 (02:28:31):
Top, well one of the things that's different between The
rockets four that they, list even though LIKE i, said
it's all, statistical statistically. Based, Durant Finney, smith A, Kogi,
CAPELLA A kogi And cappella maybe are in the. Rotation
obviously the other two, are although.
Speaker 4 (02:28:47):
Be weird not Seeing clint start for The.
Speaker 5 (02:28:49):
Rockets THE fs is not one hundred percent, yet so
he Maybe Steven adams load management his way into the.
Season But Paul, Lopez beale And collins definitely in The
clippers rotation from moment.
Speaker 4 (02:29:01):
One they're gonna be playing for. Them they're gonna matter for.
That In kawhi miss is like eighty. Games that also
is a, factor but you can't. Help but note the
other part of, It, paul AND i Know durant is,
ancient But Chris, Brooke, bradley And John collins are all
on the other side of their career to being about
THE nba other than any. Other AND i know that
Major League baseball players can play a long long. Time
(02:29:23):
if there's a guy you're just not a fan, of
there's a good, chance if he's, good you're gonna be
around a long.
Speaker 5 (02:29:29):
TIME i note one other thing on this, list because
we can't get away from.
Speaker 4 (02:29:32):
This The west is just.
Speaker 5 (02:29:34):
Good it's really really, good super super, deep and that
list includes at the top Three Western conference teams and
the clip The mavericks of the last of the three
who are going to at the end of the season this,
year they're gonna Have Cooper flagg and then also on the,
roster probably, healthy we'll Have Anthony Davison kyrie.
Speaker 4 (02:29:54):
Or not with that fat suit he just brought, ON
i was aware that some people are going to Be.
Speaker 5 (02:29:59):
Barkin and then the best, teams the teams that got
the increased their war by the. Most in The Eastern
conference are two teams that don't matter at. All brooklyn And,
charlotte like The, east didn't do anything to get.
Speaker 4 (02:30:16):
Better they and one of them all got. Worse one
of them got, worse but well two of them got
worse because of. Injuries huge. INJURIES i, Mean indiana should,
be for all intents and, purposes right back in. It
and they don't Have Tyrese. Halibert austin. Injury indiana. INJURY i,
mean somebody's got to get hurt for The. Knicks it's
fun thing to.
Speaker 5 (02:30:33):
Do you, know there was a basketball game, today don't
You The nicks And sixers.
Speaker 4 (02:30:36):
Played they're playing Like japan or. Something Oh Abu dhabi of.
Course oh, sorry that's in case you missed.
Speaker 1 (02:30:42):
It the eighteen On Sports talk seven, ninety.
Speaker 4 (02:30:56):
Winding down A thursday edition of the Eight Team Sports
talk seven. Ninety we've got to get through this segment
so that wex can go home and watch that very
very Important thursday night. Game i'm gonna be watching, It,
cole you're not. Helping who here that listens To Sports

Speaker 7 (02:31:19):

state Versus Sam Houston state.
Speaker 4 (02:31:23):
Game does that's just being a degenerate Money.
Speaker 5 (02:31:26):
Also baseball, Tonight i'll probably watch that. Too see if you.
Speaker 4 (02:31:30):
Were to go home and, say all, Right i'm only
watching The Yankees Red, SOX i would actually be, like,
yeah that's. Understandable this is bad football.
Speaker 5 (02:31:36):
TONIGHT i WILL i will as described, earlier we'll prime
it up for the football game that'll be streamed on the,
television AND i will have the baseball game on the.
Speaker 4 (02:31:45):
Laptop, SEE i figured you would do it the other way.
Around i'll keep the bad product on the smaller, no
it's the. SPORT i would like the football to be
on the big screen so you can see more. Things.
Speaker 5 (02:31:56):
Well they, also if you haven't the one of the
alternate offerings From Amazon Primes Thursday, night you basically can
watch the overhead view the entire.
Speaker 4 (02:32:04):
Game really, yep what kind of is that The are
they using the same technology as the first down stuff
or is it An it's got to be an actual.
Speaker 5 (02:32:12):
CAMERA i, mean it's an actual, camera but there also
is some digitization of some additional things they put on
screen for, you like leasing to the players and the
routes and things like.
Speaker 4 (02:32:21):
That SO i watched that last. WEEK i enjoyed. It
we'll do it. Again let's give some tickets. Away, okay,
fine let's talk About Monster, jam and let's talk about
the fact that we're giving away a four pack of
tickets to that. Event it's coming Up october eighteenth AT Nrg.
Stadium i'll be there with my. Family pit passes are.
Included that's a big part of this because that means
(02:32:42):
you get there a little bit earlier and you get
to roam around on the dirt and see all the
trucks and take pictures with them and meet the drivers
and all that.
Speaker 5 (02:32:49):
Stuff, ALSO i have a pair of tickets to see
The cougars in Their Houston blue uniforms take On Texas

There come see me over in the butt light backyard
tailgate area AND uh hung out enjoy ourselves before The

you gotta know the answer to this very important question
and call into two one two five seven. Ninety you
can add the seven to one three off the top
(02:33:31):
seven one three two one two five seven.
Speaker 4 (02:33:33):
Ninety hopefully when you go to both of these venues
after winning these, tickets you do not encounter WHAT i
did THAT i was talking about two segments. Ago you
know the guy and he was there was the overflow
in the sweating bleacher seat and the. Food there's some
overflow on a bleacher. Seat he met a bleacher. Creature,
(02:33:55):
yeah thank, you that's what he. Was he was a
gigantic bleacher. Creature what stadium did that happen to? Me
in happened to? You it happened to. Me it was an,
action it was a. Verb it was. Happening i'm sure
everything was. Fine he went to go get his food
and then he came back AND i was, like, look
it's happening. Again where did A Samantha laft.
Speaker 5 (02:34:18):
Go see a game? Recently where did this happen to?
Him it's probably some, guy nameless. Guy probably want to
call Him. Darryl, No daryl wouldn't do.
Speaker 4 (02:34:27):
That he's In. Detroit we'll call Him. Bernie. Whoops there you.
Speaker 5 (02:34:30):
Go just name the stadium that you, visited where you.
Were your whole experience of seeing the team you went
to see win handily was ruined by this unsuspecting fan
who was seated in front of, you enjoying his food
and the.
Speaker 4 (02:34:43):
Game it wasn't ruined Because samantha's pleasantness negated much of.
It she's so.
Speaker 5 (02:34:49):
Nice just sent me a picture during the show just
letting me and my family know what she was doing,
tonight even THOUGH i already knew because she already told
us because she was so excited about. It the caption
reads time to see the love of my life and
the picture is her is the poster of her seeing
the advanced screening Of Chad powers tonight Featuring Glenn.
Speaker 4 (02:35:11):
Powell oh so she's a big, fan big, fan big.
Fan how many times did she See Top Gun? Maverick
probably as many times As i've had it? On did
she see it in four different theater settings LIKE i
did WHEN i was in the, theater zero theater. Settings
she didn't go to the theater to See Top Gun.
Speaker 5 (02:35:28):
Maverick she really wasn't in locked in with What Top
gun was all about until after it came out and
then saw the first. One And i've seen this one multiple, TIMES.
Speaker 4 (02:35:37):
I FULLY i think they should release it every year
once a year to see it IN imax. Format have you.
Speaker 5 (02:35:43):
Seen the symphony That tom was? With it played all
of the music throughout the.
Speaker 4 (02:35:48):
Movie, oh it's. Unbelievable wait where was? THIS i found
it online?
Speaker 5 (02:35:53):
Somewhere so he Was basically they invited everybody to watch
the movie at a performance art place.
Speaker 4 (02:36:00):
Exactly so like our symphony in here in town does
that with different. Movies they've done it With, jaws so
they did that with Top Den. Maverick it's pretty. Awesome,
Okay So i'm gonna call my peeps over at The
Houston symphony and tell Them i'm an idea.
Speaker 5 (02:36:13):
Guy so YESTERDAY i brought this, up and we never
gave an answer to. This Sports talk seven to Ninety
whomever posted, this it was not, me it was not.
You it could be a number of. People they asked
this question before any of these wild card series had.
Concluded obviously there's other teams in the, playoffs and they
asked the simple, question who are you rooting? For your
(02:36:35):
answer Choices Alex, bregman The Red, Sox Kyle tucker and The,
Cubs George springer and The Blue jays Are Aj hinch
and The. TIGERS i asked you how you thought that
might play. OUT i have the, answer BUT i still
want your.
Speaker 4 (02:36:48):
ANSWER i feel LIKE i did not participate in. This
by the, way you know, WHY i was already closed
before you were aware of. It, no because they get
a yes those two. Things. YEAH i also was curious
about THIS i THINK i have not seen the, results
so this is completely, honest one hundred. Percent on my,
PART i feel Like houston is rooting For. George but
(02:37:11):
that was number, one, okay in a. Landslide you know
WHY i have a theory on, THIS i would guess
because he didn't do anything to indicate he didn't want
to be.
Speaker 5 (02:37:20):
Here he didn't play any games with. Them it was
quite obvious that it was the shoe was on the other.
Foot they didn't make the effort to re sign him
the way that he brought.
Speaker 4 (02:37:28):
Him they brought him to the.
Speaker 5 (02:37:30):
Majors still had some lingering effects with how long he
spent in the minor leagues as a college, player with
multiple full seasons of. Stupidity let's keep having him get
five hundred bats for our minor league outfits when he's
obviously ready to. Play but, anyway all those, things and
he was the kind of the engine of the team
Before altuye was the engine of the.
Speaker 4 (02:37:48):
Team but he also participated in the least amount of
The Golden. Era not saying that he didn't contribute because
he was THE mvp of the First World series, Championship
but What i'm saying is there has been more time
that has, passed you've been able to remove him from
that equation in your heart as a sports. Fan and
more guys that did spend more time of The Golden
(02:38:09):
era have departed in various ways since. Then and they're
all on that, list all, right except For carlos k of,
course Next. Bregman that is correct again as the least
amount of time spent, away he was about twenty five
percent of the. Vote george got about forty five percent
Of technically he signed After kyle was.
Speaker 5 (02:38:27):
Traded, yeah the other two are both very limited in Support,
tucker and The cubs was.
Speaker 4 (02:38:31):
Last, YEAH i figured that'd be, there AND i think.
Speaker 5 (02:38:33):
Part of it is The cubs angle and part of
it is they traded him, away and it was he was,
like how much do you Love Carlos korea legitimate question
asked how much do you Love jose Al tuve, love
Jord On alvarez, Love bregman, Love springer, Love cole.
Speaker 4 (02:38:47):
Love verlander who asked how much you Love Kyle? Tucker
we just don't what's his signature playoff, moment and just
it's it's a little bit of who he. Is two
home runs in a game one of A world. Series
you lost that? Game is that's?
Speaker 5 (02:38:58):
It is there a moment of exultation on the. Field
you could recognize for every single other.
Speaker 4 (02:39:03):
Player he kind of them all of them flipped a
little bit extra that one, time kind OF i, Mean Carlos,
correa that guy's. Firing, yeah that's just so so so much.
Speaker 5 (02:39:13):
Different you just. Don't you just didn't have. It it's
not that he was good or. Bad they're just he
doesn't do. That there weren't the most like Even jordan's
huge homer at the end of The seattle series or
the home run in The phillies, game like he was
beating his chest and There alex moments in these moments
that Are jordan.
Speaker 4 (02:39:30):
Played and how about the fact that he almost killed
half the team by flipping his bat towards the Dugout jordan.
Speaker 7 (02:39:36):
