Speaker 1 (00:02):
Two lifelong Houston sports guys named Adham, raised by Earl Nolan,
vulted by the magnificent roller coaster ride.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
That is Houston.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
Sports, hill Lage down for the only homegrown afternoon team
is Talking Your Teams. Adam Clinton and Adam Wexland are
the A teams.

Speaker 3 (00:35):
A What's Up Houston?

Speaker 4 (00:48):
It is a Monday edition of the A Team Sports
Talk seven ninety and you know what wex for the
next two days. I can come in here and I
can say it is a game day edition of the
A Team Sports Talk seven to ninety tonight only once
more the rest of the year. Wait on a Monday.

Speaker 5 (01:08):
They don't have any more Monday games. Well, most of
their games are on Sunday.

Speaker 4 (01:11):
They might have a.

Speaker 5 (01:11):
Saturday game, don't they have a Thursday. That's the one
other time you'll get to do it the rest of
the year. But I'm gonna do it tomorrow because it's
Rockets game. And I'm gonna do it every single time
there's a Rockets game. Just because you said this sweet,
I know, I know you're looking forward to it. No,
but it's these games specifically, it is a Monday night.
Half the country will be asleep by the time they

(01:32):
kick off nationally televised game for the Texans, and then
tomorrow night, the very first game of the twenty twenty
five twenty twenty six NBA campaign will tip off between
your Houston Rockets and some team up in northern Dallas.

Speaker 4 (01:48):
So it's gonna be awesome. I cannot wait. Was over
at Toyota Center earlier today. Actually went to Toyota Center
this weekend. They're gearing up today's NBA Jersey Day, which
I really really apppreciate, you know, me and my gear.
I'm such a gearhead and not that kind of gearhead.
But everything that is the pomp and circumstance surrounding tonight

(02:10):
and into tomorrow night is awesome here from a Houston perspective,
And as you mentioned when we were texting earlier, there's
even a game that has nothing to do with Houston
that can still bring joy to Houston sports fans. Hearts
because Game seven is tonight in the ALCS. The Dodgers
and their credit card bought championship roster are just sitting

(02:30):
around waiting to see whether they're not gonna they're going
to host Game one of the World Series, or if
they're gonna go to Canada for Game one of the
World Series. So a lot happening before we ever even
get underway. And then, fortunately, as I said last week,
we'll finally have a Texans game to talk about after
tonight ins just after midnight, maybe a little twelve thirty ish.

(02:51):
I don't know. I don't know how long this game's
gonna take. If they pass as much as I think
they're going to pass both teams, we could be approaching
one am before this thing's done.

Speaker 5 (03:00):
Oh, it's gonna take it. This typical NFL game. I
don't think it's one over the other. I think college
football games actually can be shorter, long or fast or not.
Pretty pretty standard three hours plus. You know, we got
to wait around to see, well we we did a
lot of good things tonight, but you know, it came
down to the fourth quarter like it does all the time,

(03:22):
and we have place to make and we just didn't
make them tonight. Oh my god, they're two and four.
Oh my god, they're two and four. What are we
gonna do? Yeah, it's very very very very easily could happen.
That's obviously with the odds makers believe will happen. UH
Seahawks and Texans. I think both both watched a lot
of things go down yesterday that we're not particularly pleasing

(03:44):
to them, even though they were teased by it. You
know what happened with the Broncos game. That was a
big tease for Texans fans seeing a team UH narrowly
avoid going to four and three, which is something that
would be good for Houston. You know, watching Green Bay
narrowly miss dropping their second game of the season, that
would have been a good thing for the Seattle Seahawks

(04:05):
and everything else that goes into it. I'm sure it
was probably a little surprising to the Seahawks exactly how
the forty nine ers got their fifth win of the
season last night, Another Mac Jones game, another victory, again
without a ton of injured players.

Speaker 4 (04:20):
They're just good.

Speaker 5 (04:21):
This just in Kyle Shanahan is good at coaching NFL football.

Speaker 4 (04:25):
For those that do not think that, maybe when.

Speaker 5 (04:27):
The playoffs come around and it's nothing but good teams,
they'll come out on the short end of it again
this year, as he has in the past. But we
got way way way off in the distance before we
get to that. The Texans still sitting with just the
five games played, so they're gonna be playing catch up
over the rest of the season, just the numbers. But
we have finally arrived at the game tonight. We know
what the Texans need to do. We know what they
have not done particularly well. We know what the matchup

(04:48):
issues are against this particular team. Made a couple of
roster moves today. I don't know if they were surprising
to anybody, but the two players whose practice windows had
opened weeks ago in fact active now. Both Jalen Reed
and Denico Autrey, the rookie safety and the veteran defensive
lineman defensive end probably for the Texans for the most part,

(05:09):
both activated from those respective lists that they were on.
I have to believe that means they're going to be
active tonight. And I know the practice Winzo has a
little bit to do with why they had to make
this move. It's still possible they could be made inactive tonight.
Elevated D'Angelo Ross to the active roster and said to
Zion Childers, no thank you anymore after he was signed

(05:30):
to the active roster from the Cowboys a couple weeks back,
to not say any game action, but would not be
surprised if the Texans still have interest in finding a
spot for him, maybe on their practice squad, but that
not available to them when he was already on another
team's practice squad, but could be now moving forward otherwise.
I think the one other thing we'll see tonight that
we probably have not seen before, and it's not a guarantee,

(05:52):
but I think we will is Braxton Barrios. I think
is gonna put his game day uniform on for the
first time this season with Chris and Kirk out was
made official on Saturday, expected unfortunately because of the hamstring
injury suffered during practice, the second time he's injured his
hamscreen this season between games, did it between the last

(06:14):
preseason game and the regular season opener, and now has
done it again after returning to game action for the
last three games for the Texans. I don't know that
Barrios is a huge part of what they're doing, although
with how effective Jalen Knowle is in the return game,
how important he is there now is their greater importance,
And that your slot receiver is out, how they manipulate

(06:36):
the offensive part of filling in that slot role, that
should be something of great interest because CJ. Strouds throwing
Denico Collins and Xavier Hutchinson and two rookies along with
Barrios in whatever form if he is active tonight, that
he and Nick Kayley deem best getting a little bit
closer to the NFL's trade deadline. And obviously we had
to run through the rest of what's going on in

(06:57):
the NFL. Was over at Rockets practice or today. So
I had a chance to talk to Kadi for the
first time since signing his extension.

Speaker 4 (07:05):
He did you do you look richer?

Speaker 5 (07:07):
Well, yeah, I would say he did, because the last
time I talked to him was media day in person,
and I mean he looked like someone who was being
in his pocketless jersey and shorts, was being weighed down
by like four hundred and seventy million dollars. Today in
his pocketless jersey and top, he looked like he's being

(07:29):
weighed down by somebody more like a five five hundred
million dollars in earnings. Yeah, he looked richer than the
four hundred and fifty million dollar person he was a
couple of weeks ago, now being better than a five
hundred and fifty million dollar person than he was today
now he called it a no brainer. The same stuff
we continue to hear from him organizationally, from his teammates

(07:50):
to the GM to and the head coach, to Tillman,
et cetera.

Speaker 4 (07:54):
He likes what they have here. It's what he thought
it would be.

Speaker 5 (07:57):
It's why he was so gung ho about putting this
team at the top of the list and why he
wants to likely end his career here in Houston successfully.

Speaker 4 (08:06):
That's what all this stuff means. Successfully.

Speaker 5 (08:08):
Talk to Alpi, talked to e May, and we've all
talked to a couple of other players over the last
couple of weeks. That's what it is about. It's not
about man. This is fun. My teammate is Kevin Durant.
I get to pass the ball to Katie. I get
to take plane rides with Katie. He's not here to
have fun, even though he is having fun, and he
will have fun here a lot more fun than he
had in Phoenix and Brooklyn and maybe Golden State where

(08:29):
he actually did win.

Speaker 4 (08:30):
He didn't even like being a Golden State.

Speaker 5 (08:32):
So it's about winning and that's why he's here. It's
why it's so much fun. I think to have this
season get started and for the NBA to have this
as an additional storyline for them. The Rockets in the
big NBA picture this year are among the biggest parts
of the NBA picture this year, and I totally am
here for it.

Speaker 4 (08:52):
Yeah, I mean it is. I told you this, and
it's only gotten more so. How excited I am about
this coming NBA season and how I'm becoming more defiant.
It's not just John Hollinger is his own little category
if he really thinks that not only the Rockets, but
all three Texas teams are gonna be in a play in.

(09:14):
I mean, say what you will about where you think
the Spurs and MAVs are respectively, and there I don't
even wanna call it rebuild. The MAVs were in the
finals two years ago. That's their fault, so I won't
call it that. But it's not the John Hollingers of
the world. I'm even concerned with I just for whatever reason,
and maybe I got, you know, hyped up on the
preseason results. I don't like I'm a little concerned about

(09:41):
the lack of defensive prowess, but that's just because it's preseason.
I can't I can't really judge it I can't gauge it,
and you're gonna find out real quick tomorrow night where
they are on both ends of the floor, because the
Thunder is an elite defensive team and they're obviously elite offensively,
especially with their MVY or the reigning V and their backcourt.

(10:01):
But you're gonna find out real quick. I think whether
or not everybody has bought in the way it seems
they have, because I can tell you this, and you
were over there, you know what I'm talking about. The
vibes are immaculate, as they say, but everybody seems like
they're on the same page, and that's way more important
than any vibes, if you will.

Speaker 5 (10:19):
The page that they're on is enormous. As Emay told
us right out of the gate today, it will be
the biggest starting lineup they could essentially put out there.
That makes sense when they get to Oklahoma City tomorrow night.
They're on their way there right now, and it will
be the big Basically, it's an NFL style, it's a
jumbo package. Steven Adams, Alprin, Shingoon, Jabari Smith, Junior, Kevin

(10:40):
Durant and M N.

Speaker 4 (10:41):
Thompson will be the five Rockets. On the court.

Speaker 5 (10:43):
When the twenty twenty five to twenty six season begins,
we'll find out more about how they finish things and
how Reid and Tari and some of the others fit
into the initial rotation, which may be a little bit
larger at the onset of the season.

Speaker 4 (10:55):
A game tomorrow night against Okay.

Speaker 5 (10:56):
See the home schedule begins Friday with the Pistons second
home game after that on the twenty seventh, and well,
then we'll be deep into it. Already will feel like
we're deep into the NBA season, So looking forward to
a lot of conversation on that, and that will continue today.
Hear a little bit from those that spoke over at
the practice facility earlier. Obviously here a little bit more
from both the Texans and Seattle side of things as

(11:19):
we get ready for tonight's second Monday night football game.
A couple of visits to Seattle here on the show
four o'clock. John Alexander, you've heard here many times, Texans
beat writer for the Houston Chronicle in Seattle, obviously already
for tonight's game. And Brady Henderson, who was unable to
join us on Friday. Instead, we'll join us today right
at the tail end of the show, late in the

(11:40):
five o'clock hour, his thoughts on that it will also
be a little over an hour until first pitch between
the Mariners and the Toronto Blue Jays, one of whom's
season will end in a Game seven in the ALCS.
So we'll make sure that Brady knows that team is
the Mariners when he joins us a little bit later
on the show. But full weekend worth of greatness over

(12:01):
the weekend of the Texas Longhorns absolutely manhandling the Kentucky
Wildcats with a three point overtime win. We'll get in
all that stuff as we continue here on the A Team.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
The eighteen on Sports Talk seven ninety Yes see updated
time at the.

Speaker 4 (12:26):
It is the eighteen Sports Talk seven ninety Monday edition
of the program. Wexac Cole Thompson with you as we
begin another week. And I guess I figured the uh
the Katie extension would happen somewhere in this this time period,
meaning the the few days and hours before the season

(12:47):
tipped off. But I guess he didn't have to, did it.

Speaker 5 (12:50):
I mean, you're saying, yeah, it did, and honestly it
did because of the way that they spoke about it
made no sense for it not to happen. Before he
got here. He already knew he was getting an extension.
He already knew how much he was getting, just a
matter of ironing it all out. I think that's what
was said from all different parties, and you know, that's
essentially It's one additional reason why I think he likes
it here because I think the communication has been very,

(13:11):
very clear from the jump, here's what we want to do.
And I think it was initially broached. Maybe he liked it,
maybe he didn't, and maybe his agents liked it, maybe
they didn't, but initially broach that you're worth every single
penny you can get. I mean, you're one of the
best players in the league still to this day. If
you want a full two year, one hundred and twenty
two million dollar extension, which you're absolutely well within your

(13:34):
right to ask for, we're probably not going to have
as good a basketball team during the time that you
are here. I mean, we might, things might work out,
but it's not going to make it easier for us
to do it. I'm sure that that was put up
and made clear from the beginning. Doesn't mean that they
might not have done it, but it doesn't make it.
I mean, clearly, financially, we know what it means for
Kevin Durant, but what it financially means for the Rockets

(13:55):
is that the money will still be spent. It just
won't all be spent on one player. We spent on others,
and we, like many other people around the NBA, are
awaiting word that the Rockets will in fact reach an
agreement with Tarry Easton before five o'clock today, largely because
instead of two years one hundred and twenty two million
for Kevin Durant for another two seasons after this year,
it's two years ninety million, you know. Amn Thompson was

(14:17):
joking about it yesterday saying, Oh, he's a generous guy.
He's a cool guys. That's it's nice for him to do.
I mean, and Kevin Durant doing Kevin Durant things. As
he said, he was getting his shot of dopamine yesterday
because all he had to go on to the X platform,
still referred to by him as Twitter of course, to
question people, saying I don't know if I would call

(14:38):
this a sacrifice. I don't know what else there is
to call it. If he wanted to earn that money,
he would have been sacrificing his basketball instead of his
pocketbook because he could have one hundred percent. There was
a team out there that would have thought, this is
good for our organization, it's good for us, it's good
for our brand.

Speaker 4 (14:56):
Yeah, all of them, we might even win.

Speaker 5 (14:58):
So yeah, we'll we'll be a team that says, if
you want to come here and we'll make it, we'll
make it worth your while because we'll give you every
single penny.

Speaker 4 (15:05):
The Rockets weren't one of those teams.

Speaker 5 (15:06):
They said, if you want to come here, we want
you here because we've been trying to get you here
and now we just want to make it work where
we will be able to win. So, yes, there's a
sacrifice there, and look around his locker room. Alprin Shangoon
signed a five year extension while sacrificing money. Jabari Smith
Junior signed a five year extension while sacrificing money. There's

(15:27):
more money to be earned almost every single time when
you hit the market. I can't guarantee you that Jabari
Smith Junior becomes an unrestricted free agent and another team
wants to give him more than what the Rockets gave him.
Same thing with Alprin I can't guarantee those things.

Speaker 4 (15:43):
But they can offer him drive up the price. What
I'm saying agency.

Speaker 5 (15:47):
Logically makes sense that that's what would happen. It logically
makes sense that there is more money to be earned.
I mean, Jalen Green's no different the same thing with
that contract. So on this team, he's doing what his
teammates have done, and Tari Easton by the same token.
I don't know what the numbers will be, and I
do believe before the end of our show today that
five pm deadline obviously hits, and we will have word

(16:09):
that the Rockets have been able to do that is
being reported that this is all part of a you know,
Nick usually sets this all in motion on the textan
side of things during the off season when well, we
know you've added this player, everybody's reported it, when are
they going to announce it. Well, there's a sequencing of
events in order to make it all work, and the
NBA similarly with how you need to operate, there's a

(16:30):
sequencing of events that need to take place and getting
it done now because you have a deadline on another
player that's why it was always going to get done
before the season. He Kevin today said, it's nice that
it's not something we're thinking about during the season, but
it was not going to be a distraction. It was
only going to be. The distraction would have been, well, now,

(16:53):
we don't know about the future from Tari, we know
about your future. You're playing here, you're tiring here, You're
probably going to win here. Whether or not they signed
you today or then was only relevant to the rest
of the roster in my opinion.

Speaker 4 (17:07):
No, And you're right about the whole sacrifice thing, because
the people that are saying that are the people who
are not one of one who can get paid insane
amounts of money. I mean, it's all relative. You don't
have to I promise you don't have to be literal
about everything here in twenty twenty five. So he absolutely
made a sacrifice, just like Charles Barkley made a sacrifice

(17:29):
for Scott Pippen back in the day and that went
terrible for both of them. But these things do happen sometimes,
and that's why it's fun. You brought up what Amman
Thompson was saying.

Speaker 5 (17:40):
You know, I didn't bring up that he was saying expeditiously,
but he did yeah, because he's awesome, because he was
aswering for something to say and then he said it.

Speaker 4 (17:49):
Yeah, Well that's not it's not that's not a common
word that in Nbay.

Speaker 5 (17:57):
He couldn't control himself afterwards, because I think everybody obviously
was aware.

Speaker 4 (18:03):
But I just look, I do think that there is
something to be said for what ima Udoka brought up,
which is that you know, these guys, it's not that
they were like in awe of him. I mean you
mentioned this in the first segment, like he's not here
to have fun, He's here to win. But there has
been this like adjustment period, and by the way, I
do think a large part of it. I don't think

(18:24):
this can be understated. I think a large part of
this is because you didn't have the introductory press conference
because he wasn't in town until just before training camp began.
There is something to be said for some of these
guys just being around him for the first time and
that affects them. I mean, I'm not gonna sit here
and act like Matt Thomas, Ross Viial and I weren't

(18:46):
all fan girling when he walked into the room. At
media Day, everybody in the building except for you, of course,
was fan girling that Kevin Durant was wearing a Rockets
uniform because we hadn't seen it yet other than photoshops.
And that's not But you know, there is that fine
line between oh he is, it is awesome he's on

(19:06):
my team now. It is awesome that he's such a
neat guy. It is awesome that he made that sacrifice.
I mean a men Thompson's talking about that. He's going
to be the direct beneficiary when they backed the brink
truck up for him this upcoming offseason.

Speaker 5 (19:20):
Yeah, they needed to do all these things, and I'm
not sure where it'll be with a men, just because
you know, we don't know how the other players around
him in that draft, we don't know how they're going
to perform where their teams are at. It's not often
and it's it's obviously a great problem to have. You're
heading into year three with the with a men Thompson,
he's a pretty early draft pick, right.

Speaker 6 (19:42):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (19:43):
Yeah, I had to say that's that's pretty pretty early.

Speaker 5 (19:45):
Players drafted there don't play for championships in year three
very often. He is, He's going to be playing a
pivotal role for a team that wants to play for
a championship. Making the playoffs is fine for players drafted.
I'm gonna reach Shepherd in year two. I mean Reed Shepherd,
who's in year two and he's on a championship caliber team.

(20:06):
I don't know that they're gonna win the West, win
even more than fifty two games, and I think everybody
agrees they're on. You know, if you put together a
list of the teams you think could win a championship,
whether it's injury related or luck related or what, they're
one of them.

Speaker 4 (20:18):
I mean there's a few teams.

Speaker 5 (20:19):
One team happens to be far and away the favorite,
and not every year's like that. But it's true again
this year, just like it was last year and it
played out that way. Thunder where heavy favorites Thunder one.
They're heavy favorites this year. And they also happen to
be the Rockets opponent tomorrow. And I almost wish this
game was later in the season so you could actually
get a gauge on what this matchup's truly about. I
don't know that you're gonna get much of a gauge

(20:40):
on opening night, but Amen.

Speaker 4 (20:42):
Tari certainly beneficiaries of this.

Speaker 5 (20:44):
Maybe down the road you could say the same about
Reid when his opportunity to make more money comes up.
But he hasn't played enough NBA minutes to talking about
a Reed Shepherd extension. And we'll see where it goes
from here. But I do believe we'll hear have more
news Rockets related. We'll let you hear from Katie himself
a little bit later here on the program. Obviously, he

(21:05):
was very excited and like I said in the opening segment,
this really never seemed in doubt. He mentioned this with
Matt and Ross that day. He mentioned it to the
general media that very day, the very first thing he
was asked, I expect to sign an extension, and he
has now done that as they are on their way
to Oklahoma City and on their way for the first
ever game in the regular season with Kevin Durant knocking

(21:28):
down buckets as a Houston Rocket. Very much looking forward
to that. Best of X, always looking forward to that.
It's next.

Speaker 1 (21:36):
The AE on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 4 (21:43):
Did you all see this should.

Speaker 7 (21:44):
Be putting out between five and fifteen posts a day.

Speaker 8 (21:47):
Four hundred people were arrested for things that they said
on social media.

Speaker 7 (21:51):
History repeats itself type bangils succeed. Never doubt that you're
the one to bustle no one building, Yo, the best.
Nothing's gonna ever top you know, YO, the.

Speaker 6 (22:06):
Best post an ever single day. You're the best breaking
the entire internet.

Speaker 4 (22:21):
All right, best of X is underway. We will start
with I think I'm gonna say two teams that are
both surprises this season playing each other in a game
yesterday in which uniforms were the start and the finish
the bookend, if you will, of just a I don't

(22:44):
know if i'd call it jaw dropping, but what the
Cults are doing cannot be denied at this point. You
want to look at their schedule, fine, If you want
to say that the Chargers aren't that good of a
football team based on what they've done early on, fine,
But Volts are good. I think, in fact, I know it.
I hate to say it. I think I'm glad that

(23:05):
the Texans don't play them for a little while so
that the Texans can get right. But man, what the
Colts did yesterday against the Chargers. And I know that
Justin Herbert put up some late numbers to make it
look a little bit better than it was. That was
a blasting for most of the afternoon, and it just
so happened that it happened to the Chargers in their

(23:28):
brand new uniforms. Were you a fan no? I said
it last week.

Speaker 5 (23:31):
Ugliest uniforms I think in the NFL maybe second, if
they're not the ugliest, to the commander's recent uniforms that
they wore, the all blacks. Just there's much much more
fun things that they can do. This wasn't one of them.
So there's a few others this weekend again that we're
on display, maybe even the Bengals from Thursday night. I
actually because their helmets I thought were pretty cool. I

(23:53):
would give them a pass on that Joe Flacco wearing
him makes them less cool, but his performance made it
more cool. So a lot of balance then, But no
yellow and yellow and yellow on yellow, and yellow and
yellow and yellow and yellow on yellow and yellow on
yellow and yellow on yellow.

Speaker 4 (24:06):
I don't think it is a good look. Well, they
thought that they'd be funny about it, had some of
their team posing with the caption Charger Power on the
picture and then the caption in the tweet was on
our way to steal the moon. It's a reference to
the Minions indespicable me. You're you're at least aware of

(24:26):
what the Minions look like, yellow on yellow on yellow
on you onion. I mean, I am. I've seen at
least the first two. I don't.

Speaker 5 (24:33):
I think I tapped out after that. Didn't see the
Minions movie or Despicable Me three, four ten whatever. There
are now only the Fast and Furi is a very
funny person.

Speaker 4 (24:43):
Yeah. Well, after the beat down, if you will, the
Colts put together quite the response. What's the name of
the guy? You know, the guy that's wearing the Colts
cape in the uh groom? Is that him? Yeah? Grew's
a guy from to spile on Me. Okay, he's standing

(25:03):
over all of the Minions wearing his cult cape afterwards,
that's him? Yeah?

Speaker 5 (25:08):
Good on the cult's social media staff. Yeah, you're supposed
to do this. I don't know that why this has
missed so many times. The fans of those cities sometimes
get bent out of shape, the teams in those cities
sometimes get bent out of shape, and sometimes it does
go too far. This is how it's supposed to be done,
super simple, very clever, very lighthearted, not anything other than

(25:34):
it's a game. This is fun, this is social media,
this is a it's good. I'm glad teams do that.
They should do this to one another. They should take
advantage of what one side does when they have scoreboard
in a nice way. I don't usually mind when it's
in a less nice way, but it obviously bothers other people,
and we're gonna have to have you take that down.
The league doesn't want our teams participating with one another

(25:56):
like that on social media. It's more of a team effort.
We don't need you cutting the down in such a
harsh and a direct negative manner. This was playful enough
that nobody should care, and hopefully they didn't. The game
itself obviously took care of all of that. If anybody's upset,
it would be about how they could not stay on
the field with them. It was a two score game
early in the second quarter, and that was basically it.

(26:17):
It never was less than a two score game the
rest of the way. Chargers I think are a good team.
They're certainly inside the playoff picture at four and three,
and the Colts at some point the who they've played.
Stuff's got to go away. You only play seventeen games.
There's not one hundred and fifty five games left for
the Colts. They played seven of their one to sixty two.
There's not another seventy five games left. They played seven

(26:39):
of their eighty two. They've played seven of their seventeen games.
They have a bunch of games left inside the division.
And this division clearly doesn't have any good teams if
you base it on one of two things. The record, Well,
there's two teams under five hundred, so how good can
they be? And the Jaguars did you watch them this weekend?
They stink. So they play in a division that affords
them a few more games where they're gonna far and

(27:01):
away be the better team record wise. And it's six
and one when nobody else has five wins or nobody
else has six wins in the NFL. Could change tonight.
That's a big deal at some point, the seven games
versus the ten. This is who they play, this is
what they are. They are a very good team. What
did they do well? Everything? Everything? Their defense is making

(27:22):
play still, and their offense all they do is score.
They're the number one scoring team in the NFL. Seven
weeks into the season. You think that's a fluke. You
think it's a fluke that they had the ball nine
times and punted twice, and one of the nine times
was they ran the clock out at the end of
the game on a multiple first down drive. This can't
be a fluke anymore. They do this every week. It
doesn't matter who the opponent is. They crush fools.

Speaker 4 (27:45):
As a Chargers fan, I can appreciate when the other
social media team clowns us. Lol, and this one is hilarious.
Not gonna lie, but it stings a little.

Speaker 5 (27:53):
That's perfect, just what I was talking about. Take it
in stride when your teammate took it a little differently.
The Savannah Bananas, that's.

Speaker 4 (28:02):
A good one. See have some fun with it.

Speaker 5 (28:04):
That is Honestly, if you haven't seen the Bananas, who
are gonna be back in town on their next tour
over at Constellation, They've been over at dik In Park
and Constellation in the past. You'd probably see him on
the old teley plenty because they have become so large.

Speaker 4 (28:17):
If the players.

Speaker 5 (28:18):
Are wearing full uniforms and not cutoffs or sleeveless uniforms
like they do the bananas.

Speaker 4 (28:24):
Yeah, it's they're all yellow. You're familiar with the Drake
meme where he's putting his hand up to one option
and then he's pointing and smiling at the other option,
Like I like that.

Speaker 5 (28:34):
So someone's trying to tell him to be a fan
of another NBA team and he's like, no, no, I'm
a Raptors guy.

Speaker 4 (28:39):
Well kind of. In this case, he's putting his hand
up for the blue and he's pointing and smiling at Grew.

Speaker 5 (28:44):
That's the other thing just in who it is. In
my opinion, I think the Chargers have a great looking
They have one of the uniforms exactly. Why would you
mess with something everybody's doing. I mean, they're not the
color Rush uniforms. It's just a different variety of what
they're doing. The bills of our done it with their
freeze out jerseys. I believe this is something the league
is implementing over a several season span, and the Texans

(29:07):
will be in this very same mix in the future,
but we haven't seen the design they have worn monochromatic uniforms.
If you notice when I was talking about some of
the jerseys I did not like. I said no to
the all yellows. I said no to the all blacks,
I said no to the all whites. Well, the Texans

(29:27):
have had several versions of the all whatever colors. I
actually like the all reds. I'm not a huge fan
of the all blues unless they're the color Rush variety.

Speaker 4 (29:38):
Yeah, but I just like to see I don't. I don't.

Speaker 5 (29:40):
It doesn't bother me at all to see creative designs.
I just when it's all that. Particularly like yellow, clearly
the worst of all of the ones that I've seen
so far.

Speaker 4 (29:49):
It's too yellow. Bro, I'm dead right now as a
Chargers fan. This was a good one. And may we
never have to wear those hideous jerseys again.

Speaker 5 (29:57):
And now you're into the well that to why we lost.

Speaker 4 (30:01):
Letterman jacket game, that's why Texans they lost that and
a murdering tight ends.

Speaker 5 (30:06):
Absolutely like, there's fans over at U of H that
absolutely cannot love their blue uniforms more, except they don't
like losing in them, which they have done on the
football side and the basketball side, and so they're like,
and when the basketball team basically never loses, but you
lost in the game where you wore the blues, You're like,
I love these uniforms, but just don't wear them again
because I don't want to lose.

Speaker 4 (30:27):
It's not I promise you. Even the Rockets, they were
just paying homage to the Oilers.

Speaker 5 (30:31):
Well, the Rocks lost in those colors. What season do
they wear those the most? Picturing DeMarcus Cousins and John
Wall and someone squeezing into a thirteen jersey at the time.

Speaker 4 (30:44):
KPJ.

Speaker 5 (30:46):
Yeah, Well KPJ was here long enough that he wore
some of He wore all the other varieties. Those those
gentlemen were here for just a blue cup of coffee, basically, James, Yeah,
I don't think that's the reason the Rockets were losing
that year. Ask DeMarcus Cousins if he thinks that's why
the Rockets were down that year.

Speaker 4 (31:03):
I know he had some very strong opinions. But I
fun on Best of X. I know it happens from
time to occasionally, it does.

Speaker 5 (31:11):
Like I told you last week, if we wanted to
go all Kevin Durant for Best of X all the time,
we could, We'll save it for other parts of the show.
Because I really was being serious when the news broke.
When Shams broke the news this past weekend that the
extension was had. He was ready his morning coffee. He
had it in his hand, and his morning coffee Kd's
morning coffee is his phone and with Twitter all fired

(31:32):
up and ready to respond to anybody saying anything good
or bad. Sometimes the exchanges are super pleasant, very basketball. Ye,
sometimes they're Oh, since we're characterizing s this morning, that's
what you want to characterize.

Speaker 4 (31:45):
That's what she saw this weekend.

Speaker 1 (31:46):
Dopamine the eight on Sports Talk seven ninety's.

Speaker 9 (32:04):
She's so.

Speaker 4 (32:06):
When she's no. It is the eight team Sports Talk
seven to ninety Monday edition of the program. All right,
so we we talked a little bit last segment about
how good the Colts look and that's not great news
here in the division where the Texans is just trying
to stay above water. I mean, they will be at

(32:28):
at five hundred with a win tonight in Seattle. It's
it's just the start it's been and when the Colts
have been. By the way, we didn't mention the fact
that Jonathan Taylor has eleven touchdowns and I think no
one else has more than seven in the NFL this year.

Speaker 5 (32:42):
Yeah, ten rushing touchdowns, one receiving touchdown, another three touchdown
game for him. It does make life easier on both counts.
Jonathan Taylor didn't just get good, and he's had games
like this before, but his job's way easier this year
because Daniel Jones is there and vice versa. General Jones
his way job is way easier this year because he
gets to turn around, hand the ball to a guy
that's good for one hundred and twenty hundred and forty

(33:04):
fifty yards of total offense a game and finds his
He's obviously, I'm amazed how often he doesn't. He isn't
the guy because he's got all the eleven touchdowns. You
know how many touchdowns he's actually had stolen from him? Yeah,
he used Abdullah in the red zone a week ago.
Daniel Jones obviously has several of their rushing touchdowns this year,
which might have happened in the past with Anthony Richardson,

(33:26):
but not likely with some of the other quarterbacks that
Jonathan Taylor's been teammates with. It's a perfect mix and
I don't think anyone would have seen this this coming.
Even though Daniel Jones thinks we weren't paying attention, didn't
know very much. As he said, in his postgame interview yesterday.
Because he's had a career of that. I guess somehow
in his mind he's had one really awesome season and

(33:48):
now he's having a second even better season in a
new place. But it's a lot a lot of it
is due to they, in my opinion, they got it
right three years ago, like the Texans got it right
three years ago, like the Seahawks got it right two
years ago. They hired the right guy to run their
football team. Shane Steichen, an offensive coach, a former offensive coordinator,

(34:10):
has managed to make it work with the crappy quarterbacks
that he's been given over the last couple of years,
and now, all of a sudden, they have the best
offense in the NFL. The best offense in the NFL
is run by Shane Stike and his quarterback Daniel Jones.
Number one in the NFL and points they're number one
in the NFL and many other key categories. Percentage of

(34:30):
drives ending in points, you know, their touchdown percentage. They're
not among the league leaders in time of possession because
they've just scored so often and so quickly. They're very,
very very good on third down conversions. Their defense is
just kind of riding the wave. I'm not sure that
their defense is great, but I know their defense takes
almost no snaps in a bad situation. All right, defense

(34:53):
is on the field here in the second quarter. Yep,
we're up by two scores again, So we get to
play an entire three quarters of defense where the other
team is kind of one dimensional, where the other team
is up against it. Because of what the scoreboard says,
it makes your defense great. They might actually be pretty good.
But more competitive football will help determine that, and I'm
sure that's coming. But the Texans don't see the calls

(35:14):
for a bit. Almost every team in front of them
is on their schedule, and that means that you're gonna
have to pinpoint which teams you want to catch, because
the Texans are gonna beat them all. They have the
Colts twice, They still have the Chargers, they still have
the Broncos. They obviously still have the Jaguars. All of
those teams are inside the AFC playoff picture. They still
have the Chiefs, who, by the way, are not inside

(35:37):
the AFC playoff picture just yet. Even at four and three,
they could very easily have a five game winning streak,
but instead they've won four of their last five, and
the Texans is as much as it looks like they're
in a record wise an awful position, and they will
be in an awful position if they don't win tonight.

Speaker 4 (35:53):
Even though it's not an AFC game.

Speaker 5 (35:55):
Their margin four errors losses, it's tiny because let's just
say you lose this game against I don't know, the
Chargers in week seventeen, how are you going to catch them?
Then that's three more wins than they have than you,
and they have the tiebreaker. Let's say you don't beat
the Broncos later this year, which is in this next

(36:15):
handful of games, well then they have a four game advantage,
four win advantage plus the tiebreaker. Let's say you only
split with the Colts, all right, well then they are
four wins ahead of you, and you may or may not.
I mean, the math is there for you. If this
team is good, they're going to beat good teams to
show you how it's done. Because that's almost all they

(36:37):
have left. The Cardinals, the Raiders, the Titans, not much
besides that on their remaining twelve game schedule.

Speaker 4 (36:45):
Yeah, I mean we talked, and I think we talked
about this last week how we had kind of we
were doing previews throughout the offseason and when we were
talking to the Colts previewer whose name iscase right now,
he'll probably be able to rattle it right off, and
he was like, Yeah, it's gonna note one of those years.

(37:06):
I mean, nobody saw this coming. They don't.

Speaker 5 (37:09):
It's because we were ready for them to get rid
of Chris Ballard and their roster. I promise you their
roster didn't get a whole lot better in one off season.
What got better is their offense and their quarterback play.
All these good things I've said, well, add to it.

Speaker 4 (37:22):
They don't. They don't make many mistakes.

Speaker 5 (37:23):
They're not turning the ball over, they're not eating the
ball on sacks and going from second and ten to
second and seventeen. They're not third and five and losing
seven yard. They're doing all the little things along with
clearly they're playing good football. Overall, they're all in their favor. No,
I did not see this coming. Jake Arthur our guests
from Indianapolis. At the beginning of the season, I was

(37:44):
a guess that anybody was picking anybody other than the
Texans nationwide or those that cover the AFC South. What
could you have seen in their off seasons, like maybe
Jacksonville because your last name is Cohen and you love
what the Jaguars have done in the offreson, I could
have that, even though I wouldn't have said that they're
going to be the best team in the division. At
least there was a reason for it, you know, buying

(38:06):
into Daniel Jones and where the Colts are. Give Colts
some credit. I think they've managed to be competitive. Remember
Year one of Shane Steichen and Demiko Ryans was a
battle of head coaches, battling for I'm going to the
playoffs in my first year. Yeah, and he was doing
it with Gardner Minshew right. Well, Demiko was doing it

(38:26):
with at the time the best rookie quarterback season we
had seen until this past year when another rookie did
something spectacular. So I hate it's it's finally not good
that maybe this division isn't quite as easy. But it
also goes back division wise to the game that should
haunt you the most. You could have made a play

(38:47):
on Baker Mayfield. Sure, you could have scored late to
maybe take the lead against the Rams, sure, but you
lost a team. You lost to a team that isn't good.
Jacksonville is not good no matter what their record says.
That is a bad football team. They've gotten almost every
single possible break, turnover, takeaway, defensive score, anything you could want.

(39:08):
And Trevor Lawrence beat the Chiefs after he fell down
on like the most important play of the game, like
it got so many breaks. But if they don't get breaks,
they get their butts kicked, like what happened this weekend.
That was an embarrassing performance against the team that the
Texans well they handled, just not well enough to beat.

Speaker 4 (39:24):
Yeah, I hate the fact that they lost by a
touchdown to that team. We'll continue to discuss that. We'll
also get into tonight's matchup for the Texans stopping Sam
Darnold and company. That is the task ahead of Demico
Ryans and company. We will hear from him next.

Speaker 1 (39:42):
The a team on Sports Talk seven ninety two lifelong
Houston sports guys named at him talking your team?

Speaker 8 (39:52):
Who's so?

Speaker 2 (39:55):
Adam Clinton and Adam Wexler are the.

Speaker 4 (39:59):
A straight up three o'clock here on Sports Talks seven
ninety and Space City Home Networks Simulcast has begun. It's
a Monday edition of the A Team wex ac Cole
Thompson with you getting you into what'll be a late
night for Houston sports fans. And then tomorrow maybe not

(40:23):
as much of a late night, but you're gonna have
two big, big games over the next twenty four ish hours.
You got the Texans in Seattle tonight to take on
the Seahawks, who have been fantastic with Sam Darnold. And
then you've got the Rockets tipping off their season and
tipping off the season because of the first game on

(40:43):
the slate in Okac against the Thunder tomorrow night. That'll
be the return of Peacock Slash NBA on NBC. That
kind of thing, very exciting times. Kevin Durant fresh off
his two year extension, he gets two years, ninety million,
gives up a lot of money relatively speaking. Uh, to

(41:04):
give a little flexibility to your Rockets team as they
try to again no word yet extend Harry Easton by
five o'clock today. And then of course the breach truck
they're going to likely back up for a men. Thompson,
He's gonna get the max Max Max Max Max, right,
that's what I would think. Yes, yeah, I mean, you
got it right, I know, But well, I guess it's

(41:25):
just more under the magnifying glass. Because Shingoon took a
little bit of a break, because Jalen Green took a
little bit of a break. Now Kevin Durant is taking
a little bit of a break. It's good for the
Rockets flexibility. And it's funny because and you'll hear this
in the next segment, that the big picture was brought
up a lot over this weekend and even into today,

(41:46):
when members of the Rockets Universe, if you will, talked
about the reasons why Kevin Durant chose to come to
Houston and chose to take less money on this extension,
which will for all intents and purposes, he'll probably retire
as a Rocket. I mean, he might play after this
these two years, after this one or up, but then

(42:06):
he's forty. I don't know. I don't know what that
would look like.

Speaker 5 (42:09):
Well, all the questions about what still drives you and
what do you still have to prove, I don't think
any of those questions are ones that he's really trying
to answer. All he is keeping it. I really think
he thinks this way. I just like winning and playing basketball.

Speaker 4 (42:23):
I love the game.

Speaker 5 (42:23):
I love the work that goes into being good in
the NBA, like the work that I have to continue
to do. And I want to win. I want to
go out there and I want to play in the
playoff games. I want to play in the Game sevens.
I want to play in the NBA Finals again. I
want to win. That's why he continues to play. So
I don't think he's going to walk away if they
do win. I don't think he's going to walk away
if they don't win. I think he's going to see

(42:46):
what things are like physically at that time, because we
can't act like he has rolled through the last handful
of seasons of his career just taking nights off because
they wanted to rest him. He's taking nights off because
his body's telling him to. Whether it's been on my
ankle injury or some knee injuries, or most of what
has ailed him over the past handful of years has
luckily been more on the minor side of things. He's

(43:09):
obviously dealt with his more major side of things. His
first year in Brooklyn was a completely lost season. Brooklyn
signed him knowing he was unavailable for that season, spent
all those years in Oklahoma City at the beginning of
his career, just like James, just like Russ when they
basically played every single night, year after year after year,
three years together, and hardly any of them missed even

(43:30):
a game. You know, that's how healthy they were. The
first injury for Westbrook we have talked about a ton
because of why and how it happened, and then his
career kind of followed along with having trouble staying out
there as often as he'd like. But we're also just
a year removed from Kevin Durant being available, willing and

(43:50):
asked to play seventy five games for the Suns two
years ago, more in the fifty and sixty range in
other seasons. Because I have a small injury, well, a
small injury for a twenty four year old means he
might even be able to give it a go tonight.
Small injury for a thirty five or thirty four or
thirty one year old means this could take ten days,
this could take two weeks. We'd rather be safe than sorry, because,

(44:12):
in addition to being an older player, he's our most
important player for whichever team he was on Brooklyn or Phoenix,
so you might take a little bit of extra time.
The Rockets are going to be the very same way.
A nagging injury for Kevin Durant is unlikely to sideline
him for a night. It's gonna be multiple games if
that happens, and committing it just happened last year. The

(44:35):
second that Jimmy Butler got traded to the Golden State
Warriors is already being reported. He's going to Golden State
and they intend to sign him to a maximum extension
because obviously the agents had already gotten the word out
and he did. The Golden State Warriors did not. They
don't have anybody like the Rockets. They have a couple
of young players that are going to play through their
rookie contracts. Brandon Pojemsky's not likely to be sent to

(44:58):
anywhere else. I don't know exactly how much he's going
to need to get paid when his extension time comes up,
but not very many others are in that position.

Speaker 4 (45:06):
Obviously.

Speaker 5 (45:06):
They kind of went through that this offseason the last
off season with Jonathan Kuminga. That's the biggest difference between
the Rockets trading for Kevin Durant and where their roster
is and what they're trying to do, and the Golden
State Warriors trading for Jimmy Butler. There's no reason for
Jimmy Butler to sacrifice his money for who for what.
They don't they're not building anything there. There's no players
that they need to save money on to get under

(45:28):
this number or that number. They're spending tons and tons
of money. They can go out and sign other free
agents if they want, but they don't have to save
that money for their young talent Rockets do. The Rockets
already know where all their money's going. They've known it
since the day. Basically, they signed Fred van Vlid a
couple of years ago, knowing that that third year option
was not going to get picked up so they could
guarantee him more money, which they did this offseason, knowing

(45:49):
that they would want to sign extensions for Shengoon and
Jalen Green, not knowing the figures, but knowing that that
was in front of them, and then Jabbari and then
Tari and then Amen Like it's not even close comparing
those two teams, which is why both sides dealt with
it as they did. We knew from the jump Kevin
Durant was signing an extension here, and most people thought
it would be for less than one twenty two. And

(46:10):
we knew from the jump in Golden State Butler was
going to sign an extension, likely his last contract, for
every single dollar he could get.

Speaker 4 (46:18):
You think that, because I mean, you bring up Golden State.
Who's getting an inordinate amount of love? Strictly because somebody
asked me about this, somebody we both know, texting me
about this this morning. Why do I think that's happening?
And this person attached it wasn't even the entire article.
It was a screen grab of what's the big newspaper
in San Francisco. It's not the Mercury Enterprise. Yeah, I

(46:40):
think that might have been what it was, Press Telegram.
It was a It was a guy that had covered
the Warriors for a while. Kawakami, not him. He's blocked
me a long time ago. Just the fact that hey,
I've got Spurs Warriors in the Western Conference finals this year,
why not It's not that far fetched of an idea

(47:02):
that this could happen. Everybody's throwing stuff against the wall
right now because it's October twentieth, But when the rubber
meets the road, you know, all this kind of stuff
that is supposedly a bad thing for the Rockets, meaning well,
I mean, Kevin Durant, you just got a pencil in
twenty five miss games minimum because he's injury. So is

(47:23):
Jimmy Butler.

Speaker 5 (47:24):
Yeah, and again don't I don't really want to get
into where are they going to finish?

Speaker 4 (47:28):
How many wins are they going to have? It probably
won't matter that much.

Speaker 5 (47:32):
Deaf is like last year, it's going to be packed
together the Warriors, for instance, where did the Warriors finish
last year?

Speaker 4 (47:37):
Seven? Okay?

Speaker 5 (47:38):
And then what happened then there to help their healthy
team started the playoffs. Now they didn't finish healthy, because
why would they their oldest dirt he got hurt.

Speaker 4 (47:47):
Well, yes, Jimmy Butler. But that's the thing.

Speaker 5 (47:49):
If Jimmy Butler this year, with Al Horford this year,
who's not going to play back to backs and Draymond
Green and Steph Curry, if they win forty four games
and have to win a play in tournament game to
just land the seventh seed, which they did last year.
Last year, Yeah, but then they go to the playoffs
with a healthy roster of really good NBA players still

(48:10):
even at this age.

Speaker 4 (48:12):
I mean, maybe they can win I don't.

Speaker 5 (48:14):
They can't win three series, but they can totally change
the outlook in the conference because well they were the
seventh seed and they knocked off the two seed. Or
maybe they're the sixth seed and don't play in tournament,
but they get to knock off the Clippers or the
Nuggets or the Rockets.

Speaker 4 (48:27):
That can still happen.

Speaker 5 (48:29):
Like they're still going to be good if they're in
the playoffs and healthy. But expecting them to play for
some kind of a ridiculous regular season record when they
know how old they are and they know that that
doesn't matter, they know they can win on the road,
that's just not realistic. I can't believe how many people
aren't seeing the obvious. There's no way Golden State is

(48:51):
winning that ridiculous fifty seven to sixty sixty. It's just
it's I want to say, it's literally impossible, but that
would be lying, well, there's no reason for them to
even attempt to do that, and we all know they're
not going to be in a position to do that.

Speaker 4 (49:04):
To me, even if you think that, even if you're
in your heart of hearts. You're the most homorrific Bay
Area Warriors, honk, writer, journalist, radio host, whatever. They're out there,
just like they're here. I don't like people forget that
before Jimmy Butler got there, that team led by Steph Curry,

(49:25):
he was not hurt, he was not ailing, he wasn't playing,
not playing at one hundred percent. They sucked. Then they
got Jimmy Butler, and for what was the small sample size,
I know you did this.

Speaker 5 (49:36):
I think they were twenty four and eight in the
regular season.

Speaker 4 (49:38):
Yeah, so, I mean it looked like not just a
good trade, a wildly successful trade.

Speaker 5 (49:43):
It was a wildly successful trade. And again I thought
it would be. I don't care what their regular season
record was before he got there, because he's on the team. Yeah,
this is the twenty twenty five to twenty sixteen that team.
But you can't take that and say, oh man, everything
went well for two and a half months, I'm sure
it will go well for all six months.

Speaker 4 (50:00):
Like banking on Anthony Davis or banking on Kevin Durant.
You can't have it both ways. You can't say, well,
Durant's gonna get hurt, so therefore I'm not penciling in
the Rockets to do much of anything they.

Speaker 5 (50:09):
Should the Rockets be like in twenty five, twenty six.
And I don't want to do this but for the
final minute of this segment, because nobody wants to talk
about a team playing without Kevin Durant, Jalen Green, Dylan Brooks,
and Fred Van Vliet. But if none of those players
score any points for the Rockets the first fifty games
of the year, like, aren't they still good?

Speaker 4 (50:30):
Like they're still good basketball.

Speaker 5 (50:31):
They're missing some shot piet to maggure it out, and
there's things that they won't be able to do and
they're gonna have it would all change, but they have talent.
Like the reason Golden State wasn't good before Jimmy Butler
arrived is because the players that were playing in his place,
before they even knew they would get him, weren't good enough.
They weren't good basketball players that he made the good

(50:52):
basketball players that they had better, He couldn't make the
ones that weren't good any good.

Speaker 4 (50:57):
They weren't good enough.

Speaker 5 (50:58):
The Rockets actually probably are good to be a decent team,
But you're also that stupid hypothetical I just gave you
is basically them making a trade for nobody. We're just
gonna take all the guys off the roster and see
what happens. That's that's obviously not anybody's intention, but we'll
go directly to the sources. I have a chance to
speak with both Kevin Durant and emay Udoka and alprin
Shangoon after they finished up their final pre regular season

(51:22):
practice today here in Houston on the bird to Oka.
See as we speak the KD and emay Udoka, the Rockets,
we'll hear from.

Speaker 1 (51:29):
Next the A team on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 4 (51:39):
It is the eighteen Sports Talks seven ninety Monday edition
of the program. Fresh off a two year, ninety million
dollar extension. That'd be a good idea to check in
with the maybe not the main participants, one of them
certainly is in uh In. Kevin Durant. You ever noticed
that like emay Udoka, he's a lot like you in
this awesome He's just not bothered by anything that he

(52:04):
doesn't think is absolutely vital and important to the task
at hand.

Speaker 5 (52:08):
He handles business. He's a very focused individual. There are
things that need to get done above and beyond. Maybe
the smiles and the fun that you otherwise not interested
in smiling too much or having too much fun. There's
work to get done. It seemed like he kind of
smiled a little bit during our conversation brief as it
was my conversation along with the rest of the media.
But you know, Rockets will take care of practice and

(52:29):
then an assortment of players and then the head coach
will be made available to us. And thankfully, in light
of the fact the news broke over the weekend and
they now obviously are practicing the goats of Communications, Vice
president of Communications Tracy Hughes made sure we had a
few moments with Kevin Durant, so he came over first.
We talked to Alpi and we talked to em. Shout

(52:52):
out to Tracy for oh enjoy. Nobody should have to
go there on purpose, for jobs or otherwise. Well, in
professional sports, it doesn't happen often. Only in the NBA.

Speaker 4 (53:04):
I mean, in all seriousness, I know that Shay Gildess
Alexander is for the most part good for business. Yeah,
I don't like that he's a free throw merchant, but
I can't really say anything about that. Sitting here in Houston, Texas.

Speaker 5 (53:18):
Yeah, he might might even leave the league in free
throws attend year. He didn't last year.

Speaker 4 (53:24):
Who led? I'm sure it was young Lebron. No, Lebron
doesn't play enough. But I mean, by all accounts, a
good dude, good face of the NBA, if you want
to go that way.

Speaker 5 (53:36):
After the Game seven victory, he walked into the opposing
locker room to, you know, check up on Tyrese Haliburton,
say how sorry he was that it went down the
way it did. You know why, because he knew that
the cameras were with him and he was miked up
for the series that they are just now airing.

Speaker 4 (53:51):
That's one reason. That's probably a more palatable reason. That's
not nice. Well, that's very cynical. It is cynical of you.
Also because he's Canadian and they are polite. By Okay,
you could sell me on that. Do you think he
went up to Tyrese Haliburt and said, I'm really sorry
to boot this.

Speaker 5 (54:07):
No, probably not. Haven't heard Dylan Brooks say that either.
But yeah, we had a chance to catch up with
those individuals earlier.

Speaker 4 (54:13):
Today.

Speaker 5 (54:14):
I think the reactions will be as you expect. KD
initially just simply on getting the extension done.

Speaker 4 (54:21):
Yeah, I'm excited.

Speaker 9 (54:21):
I mean, that's what ben Tent was when I came here.

Speaker 4 (54:25):
Was a try to build with this group as long
as possible. So it was a no brainer to sign
on that line.

Speaker 5 (54:32):
That's kind of why I kept saying that from the
onset of his arrival, and certainly over the first hour
and fifteen minutes of today's show, not only because I
thought it all along, but if I didn't think it,
I had to now He just said all those things.
This was the plan all along, the plan all along
to build with these guys, the plan to you know,
to do what we are now going to get a
chance to finally actually do starting tomorrow night. And it

(54:52):
was a no brainer. I don't know how any other
way to say that. Everything about the acquisition of Kevin
Durant screamed that it wouldn't It really wouldn't make any
sense to do it any other way. Where you chose
you want him for a year, he only wants to
be here.

Speaker 4 (55:07):
For a year. You chose Houston. Whether you want to
come right out and say that, I mean, you had
your pick of teams where obviously it has to work
money wise, and the trade has to actually make sense
for both sides. But if you give your team who's
willing to work with you and your agent a list
of places you can go, and you choose Houston, that's
where I want to go. Get me here. Whatever has

(55:29):
to be done, like you're not doing that so that
you can play for a year and then test free
agency again and go through the whole thing. It was
pretty awesome here year one.

Speaker 5 (55:37):
I love him, man, But we'll see what's out there
at age thirty eight, see where we might be able
to take this. Similarly with Udoka on the simplicity of
the obvious, the extension for KD.

Speaker 8 (55:50):
Some continuity for a great player being around the organization.
And you know, well, I think we all knew when
who traded for him, and when he came he wasn't
a short term thing. Nobody planned that, and so uh
good to get to a point where everybody's happy and
hopefully finish his career.

Speaker 4 (56:06):
Okay, was that Ai? That's like the cleanest least noise
surrounding audio possible. I think I've ever heard of em Udoka.

Speaker 5 (56:14):
I agree, I'm wondering where it came from. It's Space
City Home Network. Okay, about ema from today.

Speaker 8 (56:21):
Oh, I see the big picture of the value of
our depth and then you know you got young guys
are going to be coming up soon in the feed
next few years, and so uh. I think a lot
of these guys are all about the right things, about
winning and whatever it takes to get there. Understanding that
flexibility matters and puts us in a good spot when
there's extra money to go around.

Speaker 5 (56:41):
Simple again, extra money, though, flexibility matters, flexibility for doing
what if you did it right when you had stockpiled
all those picks. The Rockets weren't just picking at the
top of the draft because they were terrible. They were
picking two players in the first round consecutively over three
consecutive years, and you could argue that they hit on

(57:02):
all of them to a certain degree. One of those
players is obviously going to be filling it up this
year in Washington. They're going to lose a tree of
basketball games. Yes, but my gosh, is Cam what more
going to go off?

Speaker 4 (57:15):
Offense? Might have Scorty against the Rockets in and l
It's going to be.

Speaker 5 (57:18):
Fun to watch from afar, and I think a lot
of us will be wondering if if there was a
way that it could have worked here for the talents
that are there. But obviously it's more about winning, it's
more about team basketball. It's more about what do we
have and what can we do? And he just happened
to be a player that could not get on the
court here. But my point is, if you keep hitting
on everybody, you got to figure out. Oklahoma City had

(57:39):
to figure it out with Chet and SGA and Jalen Williams,
and I think the separation of those players and the
difference being like Kevin Durant is the SGA of the Rockets. Now,
no one's debating how many years you should give him
or if he deserves it.

Speaker 4 (57:53):
He's the best player in the league.

Speaker 5 (57:54):
Type of contract SGA is that Also, you know they
went quickly with Chet's deal chests in this group of
Jabari Smith, Tarry Easton drafts players that are looking for
their extensions, they went big on his extension. They went
big on the Jalen Williams extension. That's the difference here.

Speaker 4 (58:09):
Like, that's where I wanted to go next because I
know it's easy to say, well, they're going to rip
off the next ten championships in a row. Look at
what they've already done. Now, these guys are locked in, yes,
but they all got maxes and at some point you're
gonna have to make some what they like to call
tough decisions in this business. They don't have the flexibility
that you know, Emay just got done talking about because

(58:33):
their guys didn't sacrific nor should they, I don't think,
because they're better players, frankly than the guys were talking
about on the rockets, and they've proven that if you
don't if you don't agree with that, well where do
they finish their season? Well?

Speaker 5 (58:44):
This is also why the term max is not a
very good term.

Speaker 4 (58:49):
To use in my opinion. What about super max?

Speaker 5 (58:51):
So how much money per year did Kevin Durant just
sign for his extension?

Speaker 4 (58:56):
H forty five?

Speaker 5 (58:57):
And what do you think the max is for Chet
and Jalen Williams fifty? It's forty five?

Speaker 4 (59:04):
Oh, it's forty five?

Speaker 5 (59:05):
Okay, basically give or take yeah, five years, two hundred
and forty one million.

Speaker 4 (59:09):
But that's three guys making that money instead of work.

Speaker 5 (59:12):
But Kevin Durant, if he really got the max, he'd
be making sixty because he's an older veteran player and
SGA's MAX is different. When we say max, we're not
relating to what they're actually making. We're just talking about
how great they are, and these players deserve it. They're young,
they don't have flexibility with the rest of their roster.
But the Rockets are still trying to find flexibility with

(59:34):
the best three players on their roster.

Speaker 4 (59:38):
Okay, so he's already done that.

Speaker 5 (59:39):
The best three players all have their contracts done for
the next several years, all making as much as they
could have made by signing the deal when they did it.
The Rockets aren't in that position yet. Their third best
players playing on his rookie deal still, so they're just
in a different spot. He's gonna be making a lot
of money. Alpurn's gonna make a lot, but less than
he could. KD will be making a lot but less
than he could. And the Jabari Smith junior deal, which

(01:00:01):
is in place already. He's in the same draft as Chet,
same draft as Jalen Williams, and he's making on an
average annual basis twenty four million dollars a season or
thereabouts five years.

Speaker 4 (01:00:13):
It's almost team friendly. It's very team friendly, because I mean,
it reminds me of this is an extreme example, but
the Tom Brady situation, his entire tenure in New England
was about taking less money so they could fill in
a winning, championship caliber team around him. I don't know

(01:00:35):
how you convince athletes in twenty twenty five to do this.
The Rockets have managed to do it, and I know
they're not. Again, the caliber of player is different here,
but you still had to get him to say, hey,
you're with a number three pick in the draft, take
less money, and Jabari Smith said yes.

Speaker 5 (01:00:48):
Right, But the caliber of player also plays into it,
like what's what is Jabari? What is he going to
be after this year? Should he have been able to
hit free agency?

Speaker 4 (01:00:58):
Well, hopefully he's shadowing Kevin Durant all the time.

Speaker 5 (01:01:01):
But well, I specifically asked im about Jabari Smith Junior,
so we'll hear his thoughts on that also. But that's
kind of the thing with these this timing that we're
at as of. I think when the show started, I
think there were nine extensions that had been agreed to.
And if you take the Oklahoma City players out of it,
because we've already talked about what they are their stars,
I don't think we're debating what they're gonna become.

Speaker 4 (01:01:22):
We already know what they are.

Speaker 5 (01:01:23):
Well, there's really only one other player that has an
extension whose future we don't doubt, and that's Paolo and
he was the number one overall pick and he got
the same deal they did, five years to two hundred
and forty one million. But Keegan Murray got extended. There's
you don't know what he's gonna be except not worth
his contract. Shaden Sharp's been extended, tons of question marks
about what he could be. And I think he might

(01:01:44):
be a guy you want to circle as could this
guy blow up this year and be awesome very much,
very well? Could be Christian Brown, huge part of Denver's winning. Well,
what really is he moving forward? He got twenty five
million a year just to touch more than Jabari and
the same as holds true for what is he see?
You're second star, a third star, a role player that

(01:02:04):
has yet to be shown. But he's been extended.

Speaker 4 (01:02:08):
It's not like baseball, where the market dictates what you're worth,
because there is a cap in the NBA. Thank god.

Speaker 5 (01:02:13):
Yeah, all we know is as it relates to baseball,
none of these guys can hold a candle to Kyle Tucker.

Speaker 1 (01:02:22):
The A team on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 4 (01:02:35):
It is the A team Sports Talk seven ninety, Space
City Home Network. By the way, it's NBA Jersey Day.
The hell wax? Where's yours? Uh? At the cleaners?

Speaker 10 (01:02:49):
Right?

Speaker 4 (01:02:49):
Is that where you take jerseys?

Speaker 9 (01:02:51):
Now?

Speaker 5 (01:02:52):
If you do, that's just so extreme. I can't ask
about this jersey. Give me another jersey that you've had.

Speaker 4 (01:02:57):
For through a long time? Yeah, just three years?

Speaker 9 (01:03:00):
Ah?

Speaker 4 (01:03:01):
CJ. Stroud? How many times have you washed the CJ.
Stroud jersey? Probably a couple And what do you do?
What do you mean does it get washed by hand?
You wash by itself? Do you put a cycle inside out?
Do not fry it?

Speaker 5 (01:03:15):
You don't have like one of the bags around it
that you put some delicates in?

Speaker 4 (01:03:20):
No, God, the only thing I've done like that where
it was like so over the top effort needed with
regards to sports gear of any kind. Back in the
day when I would just wore hats all the time,
I would have a little it's like this cage you
put around your hat.

Speaker 5 (01:03:36):
Yeah, I'm familiar with those. We see ads for that
all the time on the tiktoks and stuff.

Speaker 4 (01:03:40):
Only if you have, like I don't know, any sort
of power whatsoever in your modern washing machine. It's going
to destroy that thing after like a few cycles. Yeah,
you just throw your plastic.

Speaker 5 (01:03:52):
You just throw your shoes in the old bag there
and have them banging around in your washing machine. Hey,
but they come back out white. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:03:58):
Hey, that is new video. Whether it's TikTok ig where
you're like, oh, I took the liberty of washing your
Jordan's so much anxiety.

Speaker 5 (01:04:07):
So Kevin Durant, that's what you're rolling with right now.
That's not an old redesigned cam whitmore jersey, is it.

Speaker 8 (01:04:13):
No?

Speaker 4 (01:04:14):
This is brand new. And what's funny is I took
the little guy with me over to the Team Shop
on Saturday. Over at the Team Shop. It'saunch a huge
week and you should get over there, like, well today
I think you get a deal on the jersey itself.
You buy one, you get the next one likes a
big discount off. I don't want to give the number
because don't want I don't want to care upset.

Speaker 5 (01:04:33):
Me meet and greet over with Reed Shepherd after one
and oh rockets return home.

Speaker 4 (01:04:37):
That's on Wednesday. But I can tell you that Saturday
when we were in there and he was having a
blast because we happened to be the only ones in
there at the time because it was near close, so
he was just had his run of the place.

Speaker 5 (01:04:46):
He went in there like a restaurant and you and
say you're not your you guys are still kitch is
still open?

Speaker 9 (01:04:52):
Right.

Speaker 4 (01:04:52):
I think we got there around two o'clock and they
closed it. Three people came planning on closing out the till.
Yet you weren't cashing. You weren't totally the seats yet,
were you People were coming in after us, but they would,
you know, filter in and out. And like he's just
like having I mean, he worked up a sweat. So
we got a bunch of stuff for him. And I
come home with this and I look for her, but
she's very very hard to shop for in a lot

(01:05:14):
of senses. Well, I got home and I pulled this
out of the bag, this black Kevin Durant Jersey. And
I don't know, well, you know this because you were there
at media Day. I've she's never requested to come to
any event of mine. Probably in ten years of us
being married nearly and eleven years of being together nearly
She's like, I want to go to media day. I

(01:05:35):
go what she goes, I want to go with you.
I'm like, why, I want to see Kevin Durant in person.

Speaker 5 (01:05:39):
You know, I thought about this when they signed him,
and it's this city still to this day, I think
is in a totally different stratosphere, especially the Rockets. Like
just in the last couple of decades, like look who
this team has brought in. It's insane, like it clearly
it started somewhere else that they ascended to super duper

(01:06:01):
star status. But and like Harden's at the bottom of
the list. He was a nobody when they got him.
But they've gotten Dwight Howard, They've gotten Chris Paul. You
already brought up Scott Pippen earlier. He was teammates with
Charles Barkley, Kevin Durant.

Speaker 4 (01:06:15):
That's just one. Clyde obviously should be at the top
of the list because they won.

Speaker 5 (01:06:19):
Yes, just this one team has done that, and obviously
there have been opportunities here in the more recent era,
the Golden era, for the Astros to do the same.
Can you imagine someone saying, I don't really care very
oft of it. I would like to go see the
Justin Verlander introductor of your press conference or something like that.

Speaker 4 (01:06:36):
To me, Like, and you bring up the Astros, I
do think it's different for baseball for whatever reason. Maybe
it's because they play in the summer when it's the hottest.
But I'm telling you, like NBA and really NFL, but
like athletes in general, a they want to play here.
And I'm not even joking when I say I'm convinced
our weather is like a huge part of it. You

(01:06:59):
can't golf year round any other place except for Florida,
And so why can't Orlando get it done? Why can't
they Heat get it done? Heat actually do. Like there's
a reason that Lebron wanted to go to South Beach,
but the main reason is because Dwayne Wade was there
and Chris Bosh was already in tow But like the
weather all that, But like, have you ever noticed how

(01:07:19):
many athletes come here and stay here after they get here,
or they live here in the offseason when they play elsewhere. Yeah,
I think they always.

Speaker 5 (01:07:27):
I'm sure somebody could pass him on this list, But
you say something like that, I think of Andre Johnson
every single time.

Speaker 4 (01:07:33):
He loves it here. And he came from Florida. He
came from Miami, hed like down the street from the stadium.

Speaker 5 (01:07:39):
He played it, especially with Dre, but I think it's
true with all of them, but especially with him.

Speaker 4 (01:07:43):
He talks about it.

Speaker 5 (01:07:44):
One of the attributes that Houston has as it relates
to big time professional athletes is they get left alone
for the most part.

Speaker 4 (01:07:52):
Yeah, case in point with that particular person. The best
buy over here at Richmond in six'. Ten used to
go in there a, lot and you, know, honestly with
the way things are going these, DAYS i go in
there less no matter WHERE i. Live but WHEN i
lived in this, area WHEN i was living in The,
GALLERIA i would go in there all the. TIME i

(01:08:13):
saw him probably five or six. Times AND i remember
specifically one of those, times like IF i wanted to
talk to, him we were this close to each. Other
he knew WHO i was from back in the day
from covering. Him he was he was retired at this.
Point people were, noticing but they weren't, like you, know
taking a stink.

Speaker 5 (01:08:30):
And well maybe acknowledge you or say. Something they but
they kind of get, it seemed, like.

Speaker 4 (01:08:36):
AND i think it was cool to Hear Kevin durant
talk like everybody makes this big thing about, well he
wanted to get back To texas where for what the
one year that he played at The university Of. Texas
yet you hear him talking About, texas he acts like
he was here for ten years of his life before
he went to The Bay area Or Oklahoma. City he,
Said southern hospitality is, real and he's absolutely, right and

(01:09:00):
that stuff that you can't you can sell guys on,
this that and the. OTHER i, mean believe. Me the
training facility right across the way here that they just,
built that is a selling point if you're recruiting a free,
agent maybe a big. Name but The rockets Got Dwight
howard and they didn't need a fancy training. Facility they
Had James.

Speaker 5 (01:09:20):
Harden they needed a reason to come, here and they
needed probably fewer less in.

Speaker 4 (01:09:25):
Taxes people forget two that he chose The rockets Over Golden,
State like those were the two front runners at the
very tail, end other than going back to The. Lakers,
yeah which according to sauces From Chris, brussard he was
gonna do until he got egg on his face on national.
Television oh just. Kidding he's signing with The, rockets but,

(01:09:45):
yeah there's something to, that and that's why we were
talking about in the first, hour like being Around kevin
at Media day. Alone that was the first time a
lot of people were around him in person for the
first time because he didn't have the press. Conference he
loves it here and it doesn't hurt that e may
and like half of his teammates from you, know recent

(01:10:07):
to way back also either play or coach.

Speaker 5 (01:10:09):
Here, yeah each time and today was another. Instance we'll
talk to emy, about you, know his willingness to do
that and what have you seen from him in this.
Regard in that, regard, well he usually deflects saying it
doesn't surprise me OR i was already aware of. This
i've spent so much time with him before coaching him
in two different. Instances he knows what he is and
even playing against him because that means you're a. Contemporary

(01:10:30):
that means you're playing with him or against, him or
playing with his teammates or, again you have such a
clear idea of what he, is who he, is and
what it's going to be like when he gets. Here
and now that he's we've this is game. One they
were playing their first. Game he only saw action in
two preseason. Games but he's also been around these guys
for better than a month, now you, know prior to,
camp prior To Media, day and then, Again Media day

(01:10:52):
was the twenty ninth of last. Month it's Now october
twenty first tomorrow when they.

Speaker 4 (01:10:56):
Craft out For september. Together, yeah AND i think they
know each other fairly.

Speaker 5 (01:11:01):
Well so more Of katie, obviously but a lot more
on the football side still to. Come not only the
games is, tonight's but also what took place yesterday in
THE nfl and what took place on the college grid
iron wild wild, weekend just like every one of, them
which is why college football has been awesome, here except
for the coaches whose seats are.

Speaker 4 (01:11:20):
Flaming hot or the ones that they're not in.

Speaker 1 (01:11:22):
Anymore The age On Sports talk seven ninety.

Speaker 4 (01:11:35):
One segment away from catching up With John alexander From
seattle way in with a a bird's eye view of
tonight's matchup that's still several hours. Away we're gonna get to.
This this is it's gotta. Go, SORRY i can't do.

Speaker 5 (01:11:53):
Well it will go because it's as far AS i can,
remember it's never happened.

Speaker 4 (01:11:57):
Before, WELL i do remember The texans either opening up
the season or it was like the second or third
game of the year In San francisco where they kicked
off at like nine o'clock at night like, this and
it was awful then.

Speaker 5 (01:12:08):
TOO i mean just this, year for, instance this is
the this is the last, week but this more than
half of THE nfl weeks have had multiple or at
least half have had Multiple monday night. Games, well in
the second games never started three hours after the first.

Speaker 4 (01:12:20):
Game seventy five percent of the country is like ready
for bed when this. Starts And i'm not an old.

Speaker 5 (01:12:25):
But but that seventy five percent of the country is
going to be treated to the game before it and
they'll be just fine with.

Speaker 4 (01:12:33):
It Right like they'll be, like, ah let's see what's
going on with this other game over, here and if it's,
competitive maybe they keep it on for a. Half if it's,
not they probably they.

Speaker 5 (01:12:43):
You're, saying you get a six o'clock game On monday,
night six O'clock, central so we five o'clock on the
seventy five percent of the coast you're talking, about they're
getting The bucks and The lions they're getting AN Nfc
championship game caliber.

Speaker 4 (01:12:55):
Preview that'd be a GREAT Nfc championship, game especially because
it wouldn't Involve. Seattle by the way over under on
how many nauseating cutaways we're gonna get of the overhead
shot of both stadiums in action with huge nationally televised contests.

Speaker 5 (01:13:11):
Tonight so seven o'clock, tonight The mariners And Blue jays
will Begin Central time nowhere near The rocket or The
texans In seattle, game.

Speaker 4 (01:13:23):
But they'll still be going on when that game kicks, off.

Speaker 5 (01:13:27):
They will almost assuredly still be going. On but if
it's like every game in this series except For game,
one we might already know who's going to, win even
though it's not a timed.

Speaker 4 (01:13:37):
Event you can always come. BACK i can tell you
who's gonna win tonight if you'd like to know and
not have to waste your time.

Speaker 5 (01:13:41):
Watching they still have the pitching, advantage although that same
pitcher got torched once in this, Series George, kirby but
he's still so good And Shane bieber tough start and
a really good finish his last. Start you're only as
good as you're, pitching and this is one of those game,
seven all hands on. DECK i don't care if you've
pitched in every game or pitched five hours, Ago they're

(01:14:03):
probably going to turn to whether It's snyder Or Dan.
WILSON i like the way that The Blue jays have played,
clearly even in the loss they suffered over the last
handful of.

Speaker 4 (01:14:13):
GAMES i think they were going to cup off the mat.

Speaker 5 (01:14:15):
Man, well that's because the best thing that they have
is the best thing that they, have and when you
match those things, Together and if you didn't follow What i'm,
saying if the best player on your team is playing
like the best player on your team and it's the
playoffs and you're in a, Series i'm not saying you
were guaranteed to, win but holy, cow does it make

(01:14:36):
it a lot. Easier AND i don't just mean with
his three homers or three additional extra base hits or
averaging a run scored per. Game one of the biggest
plays of the game yesterday was with this glove, again
starting one of the double plays early in the game
to keep them from being in a bad. Situation The
astros saw it, firsthand With Jose altuve making that. Ridiculous

(01:15:00):
i'm just gonna jog on over to third in extra,
innings And Vladimir giro, said go, ahead you're gonna get
thrown out by a. Mile he's an awesome all around baseball,
player and he's given us The superman dive to home this.

Speaker 4 (01:15:15):
Postseason outside Of, griffy which is ironic given the venue
that they're playing in, tonight has there ever been a
second generation superstar more likable than VLAD i can't generation.
SUPERSTAR i can't think of one outside Of, griffy Because
griffy's his swing. Itself even if you're an astros, f you're, like,

(01:15:36):
yeah That's griffy's who's on the. List that's the. THING i,
mean there's PROBABLY i, mean.

Speaker 5 (01:15:41):
There's a lot of guys whose dad's played Like lance mccullor's.
JUNIOR i don't think you're talking about players like. That
you're you're gotta have an airy bond well and each
even the individuals Like Barry bonds is Like Ken Griffy.
Jr his Dad bobby was really really good. Good Ken

(01:16:02):
Griffy senior had a really good Career, alamar but neither
of them were Like Vladimir Guerrero. Senior he was the
best player in the league or one of, them, Right
and Now Vladimir Guerrero junior is the, same AND i
think that puts him at a totally different. Level but
now we also have everybody's probably seen it by. Now
The expos posted it earlier, today Young Vladimir Guerrero junior

(01:16:22):
in his exposed uniform on the field when his dad
was playing there and what he's doing, Now and you,
KNOW i think people again on social have seen the incredible.
Interview Hazel, may The Blue jays field side, reporter was
interviewing him after the game leading into now Tonight's game,
seven and she asked him a, question game, seven are
you ready for? It and the whole place just goes,

(01:16:44):
Berserk and because of all the awesome cameras and all
the awesome camera operators that are working these games, now
the guy realized what was happening and immediately took a
wide shot and spun all the way Around vladdie and
all the way into the, seats And guerrero kind of
so it all in until the move had been completed
and they were back on his face and he's, Like i'm,

(01:17:04):
READY i was born, ready and, yes this is everything
you could ever. Want if this is your, guy he's
been a, rookie he came here as a. Rookie he's
been great all the. Time we've been able to extend.
Him we're looking for, bigger better. Things he, stayed he
got his, money and now look at what he's, doing
like this is the greatest thing you could ever. Have
they just have to and this isn't even the real,
finish but they have to finish this. Series they will

(01:17:27):
and again, THERE i know you're right, there peak in on.
It but it's not like it's next. Door like, literally
if you've been To, seattle it couldn't take more than
thirty seconds to walk.

Speaker 4 (01:17:41):
From but they're not playing. THERE i. Know that's WHAT i.

Speaker 5 (01:17:45):
Mean if you're playing, there it's a it's a thirty
second walk From lomenfield to T.

Speaker 4 (01:17:51):
Mobile here's What i'm. Saying they're going to light it
up as if they. Are i'm sure they might. Have
they might know this other team is also in a
big game.

Speaker 5 (01:18:00):
Tonight it's more likely what's gonna happen is The texans
And seahawks are gonna be playing and the play clock
will be at. Fifteen it'll be, nothing nothing in the you,
know with eight minutes to go in the first quarter
and literally nothing will be, happening and the place is
absolutely going to, erupt and then announcers will recognize it.
Immediately the players might figure it, Out actually they. Won't

(01:18:22):
something that is happening miles and miles and miles and
miles away couldn't be Further actually has gotten the fans
Of Seattle sports and its.

Speaker 4 (01:18:31):
Issy who do you think if if you're The dodgers
right now and you're sitting at, home they probably don't
care because they're probably gonna crush either one of these
teams the way they've been. Playing but who do you
think they, prefer or let me put it this, way
what venue do you think they'd prefer to have road
games in The World series?

Speaker 5 (01:18:46):
AT i, mean it kind of depends if their operation
steps is on top of everything or. Not and you,
know we don't get to This wednesday when they have
to travel and they're, like oh my, god how many.

Speaker 4 (01:18:57):
Guys do we have to get the passports for that
we totally forgot. ABOUT i, Mean i'm not putting anything
Past seattle's in the.

Speaker 5 (01:19:05):
Field they will be favored in either. Series they have
home field. Advantage if they Play, seattle they'll be In
toronto For game.

Speaker 4 (01:19:10):
One if, not they'll be. Favorites AND i think deservedly. So,
man imagine if show had been held. Accountable feels good
to say. It, yeah if it's. True if it, is
probably we feel even.

Speaker 1 (01:19:22):
Better the a t On Sports talk seven ninety two
Lifelong houston sports guys Named adam talking your, Team.

Speaker 2 (01:19:38):
Adam clinton And Adam wexler are the eight. Team all, right.

Speaker 5 (01:19:45):
Let's dig in On monday night, football second kickoff of the.
Night we're only five hours out from kickoff between The
seahawks and The Houston, Texans game six for The, texans
trying to continue their, winnings it's reached. TWO a third
win would put him at five. Hundred Houston Chronicle texans
beat Writer Jonathan alexander joins us From, seattle being with

(01:20:08):
us many times. Before And, jonathan why DON'T i just
start here since you just put it. Out Christian kirk
is unavailable for The texans, tonight already been ruled out
a hamstring injury suffered in. Practice now the second or
the excuse, me third game he'll miss this year with.
Hamspring but as you wrote about and just posted on
YOUR x. Handle it could be meaningful for Another texans.

(01:20:31):
Receiver we know about the, Rookies jalen, know we know
About Jadon. Higgins we obviously Know Nico. Collins probably a
good night to try to have him. Eat what About Xavier.
Hutchinson he's had a very very important season offensively for
The texans this, year more so than in any of
his previous. Seasons you wrote a little bit about him this.
Week he's visited the end zone and he's certainly at,

(01:20:52):
least if not already known based on his performance in
the game against The chargers of the postseason last. Year
he certainly seems to be seeing, things have the trust
of his, quarterback HIS. Oc but why don't we start, There,
Jonathan welcome to the. Show tell us About Xavier hutchinson
and The texans.

Speaker 11 (01:21:07):
Tonight, Hey, Adam, YEAH i think if you look At
xavier's twelve, catches and he hasn't had many catches through five,
games but if you look at many of his, catches
a lot of them have been on third down for first.
Downs so to, me that indicates that he's become somebody WHO.
C stroud is really starting to trust you, KNOW i

(01:21:28):
think The texans have implemented him a lot more into
this offense than what was. Previous he improved his game a,
lot and you, know you're starting to see his, swagger
his confidence really come. Out AND i think that was
on full display against The ravens a few weeks ago
when he scored those two touchdowns and his confidence was sky,

(01:21:50):
high AND i can only expect that it will continue to.

Speaker 5 (01:21:52):
Increase the offense obviously needs to do a lot more
than they've done over the course of the. Season scoring
seventy points in two games back to back sounds. Fantastic
clearly a totally different opponent in terms of quality and
ability to slow an offense. Down what were the things
that you think they did well in those two wins
against The titans and The. Ravens that mean they're understanding

(01:22:15):
what they can do well offensively and it's not totally
related to, well sure they did, well they played too crappy.
Defenses thus maybe it carries over into this game tonight
and the rest of the.

Speaker 4 (01:22:24):
Season.

Speaker 11 (01:22:26):
Yeah, well obviously the running game in the passing game
was a lot, better BUT i thought it started with
their lack of. Penalties they only had two offensive penalties
and going for week, one that was a significant, improvement you,
know not you, know getting in third and long situations
not committing silly penalties really helped offensive Coordinator Nick cayley

(01:22:49):
dig deep into his playbook and they got The ravens
off guard and they exposed.

Speaker 9 (01:22:55):
Them AND i think.

Speaker 11 (01:22:56):
That's What Denico ryans has been preaching all. Along as
we've you, know asked a ton of questions About Nick
kayley and as status you, know the whole, time he
said they just needed to eliminate those. Penalties and we
saw that against The. Ravens, now of course it wasn't
as good of a, team but The texans put up
forty four on them or forty four on, them and

(01:23:19):
they needed to do that and they did.

Speaker 9 (01:23:20):
That.

Speaker 4 (01:23:21):
YEAH i mean you talked about What demico's always talking,
about which is cleaning things, up and the penalties were
a big part of. That all ALL i keep hearing
about going into this game is How seattle is going
to have its way with The texans offensive line up.
Front and while that might end up being the, case
and it could very well determine how tonight, goes Maybe

(01:23:42):
i'm the only one that thinks. This Maybe i'm in the.
MINORITY i don't know if The texans defensive unit is
getting the type of RESPECT i would imagine it should
going into a game in which they've they have held
teams to the low amount of point.

Speaker 11 (01:23:55):
Total, yeah no team has scored more than twenty points
against The, texans and they've gone against some of the
best offenses in the, league whether that was The rams
of The. Buccaneers so we know this defense is the real.
Deal actually number one in the league and points allowed per.
Game you, know they're going to make it difficult for The,
seahawks and they're the unit that helps keep The texans

(01:24:17):
in the game each. Week, they're you, know one of
the stronger units in the. League so they'll today tonight
is an opportunity for them in front of the national
audience to be able to earn that. Respect, now one
THING i do think they need to continue to do
is force turnovers and make things a lot easier for the,
offense get them in favorable. Positions but they are they're confident.

(01:24:41):
Bunch and and now they'll get The Nico austry back
to add to that defensive. Line you, know if they
remain healthy this can get scary for other.

Speaker 5 (01:24:48):
Teams that surprised you all since you brought that up
that Both Nico autry and And Jalen, reed two players
that had their twenty one day practice window open and
was nearing its, close that that was the move that they.
MADE i, know because of the timing of, it there
might not have been an. Alternative but how do you
see them With autry mixing him. In they've had a
pretty clear rotation With anderson And hunter and the next

(01:25:09):
group With horton And, barnett et.

Speaker 4 (01:25:10):
Cetera how do you think he fits in with this group?

Speaker 11 (01:25:13):
Tonight, yeah you, KNOW i thought it was, inevitable BUT
i did think that they were going to wait till
the very last, minute WHICH i think that was in
a couple of. Days but you, Know denico liked to
rotate a lot of defensive linemen and defensive, ends and
the fact That Denico autry can play multiple positions at
defensive end and defensive tackle gives him an advantage to

(01:25:37):
get some. Snaps and obviously they lost Fully photocossi to
THE ir with the, injury so they're.

Speaker 9 (01:25:45):
Gonna be opportunities for him to get some matches.

Speaker 11 (01:25:49):
As far As Jalen reed, Goes they like his. Upside
he gives them depth at, safety and you, know if
they would have an, injury he would likely be the
first guy up right. Now so it makes. Sense you,
know the fact that it happened before this game was
a tab bit, surprising but it made total.

Speaker 9 (01:26:08):
Sense it was inevitable.

Speaker 4 (01:26:10):
Given you know where they're playing, tonight given the defenses
involved and everything, else and given that they're coming out
of a bye, week especially who is the one guy
that you think maybe might be flying under the radar
tonight that could wind up being AN x Factor and
this could go on either side of the football for
The texans in order to get this.

Speaker 11 (01:26:27):
Victory, YEAH i think one of the ex factors on,
Defense and maybe it's not necessarily flying under the, radar
BUT i Think Jalen petrie is going to be an
ex factor because he is possible he might get matched
up On Jackson smith And jack but you, KNOW i

(01:26:48):
expect The seahawks to move him. Around he plays a
lot of outside, receivers so he'll be matched up On
stingley at, times maybe Even kamari last. Year BUT i
think that they'll try to use him in the flight as,
well similar to what The rams did With Poka.

Speaker 9 (01:27:03):
Nakua so that might.

Speaker 11 (01:27:05):
Mean Jalen petrie is matched up on. Him So Jalen
petre is gonna have to cover. Them well'm gonna have
to have a really good. Game as far as the,
offense like we mentioned, EARLIER i think it's got to
Be Xavier hutchinson With Christian kirk being.

Speaker 9 (01:27:17):
Out he was relied on against The ravens and he's
gonna have to step up.

Speaker 5 (01:27:22):
AGAIN i Know Titus howard was asked about it earlier this,
week and we know all the. Numbers and if you've
seen a lot of The seahawks football, recently and definitely
this pass game against The jaguars a week, ago they
do a lot of good things up. Front they do
a lot of things to confuse an offensive line up.
Front their tackles specifically both strong and capable of doing

(01:27:43):
THOSE i think confusing. Things it seems like the same
thing that's has plagued The texans offensive line the last two,
years regardless of, personnel regardless of coaching, staff regardless OF
oc but stunts on the interior as much as anywhere. Else,
potentially is that kind Of the biggest thing to try
and to have successful offense tonight is handling the potentially
confusing looks or ULTIMATE i guess execution they might see

(01:28:06):
from The seahawks up. Front.

Speaker 9 (01:28:09):
Yeah.

Speaker 11 (01:28:10):
Absolutely coming into this, Week Byron murphy was high for
the league league among defensive.

Speaker 9 (01:28:17):
Tackles and sects hes four and a.

Speaker 11 (01:28:18):
Half but that defensive line, unit the ed rushers are
among the best units on this. Team they make this
defense go and they do a great job of stopping to.
Run so when they stop and, run they get teams
in third and wrong, situations and that lends itself to
them using their. Stunts they use stunts at a very high,

(01:28:41):
rate AND i was talking To ariante ersery if he
expects them to test. Him detectans haven't really experienced many
stunts this. Year we obviously know that that was a
huge issue for them last. Year but they have a
totally different unit with exception the tighter, toward so they'll
have to contain those. Stunts they'll have to communicate, properly
and they've got to stay out at thirty long, Situations

(01:29:02):
so The seahawks can't perform Those since.

Speaker 4 (01:29:04):
Talk With Jonathan, Alexander beat writer for The.

Speaker 5 (01:29:06):
Texans for The Houston chronicle there In seattle a running
back situation for The, texans you expect a similar look
that we've seen all year in terms of. Snaps a
little bit maybe slightly in favor Of Woody, marx but
a heavy dose of both he And Nick.

Speaker 11 (01:29:20):
Chubb, YEAH i picked them to both give both the
ball and whoever has the hot, Hand i'd be, HONEST
i Think Nick kylee will ride with that. Person you,
know obviously Winning marx can do multiple, things whether that's
catching him out of the backfield and running it as.
WELL i think he'll have an opportunity to have more

(01:29:40):
touches Than Nick. Chubb but whoever has a hot hand
is probably going to get the both of The.

Speaker 4 (01:29:44):
Carrieres all, right so you're In, Seattle you're aware of the,
setting the decibel, levels all that kind of. Stuff The
texans haven't gotten off to the best start this Year
seattle with the four and two. Record, ultimately who do
you think comes out of this one tonight in a
final score?

Speaker 11 (01:30:00):
Prediction you, KNOW i think The texans are getting really
close to, improving But i'd like to see them do
it against an elite defense BEFORE i picked them in
a game like, This So i'm picking The seahawks and
no way in twenty to.

Speaker 5 (01:30:12):
Sixteen Jonathan alexander covering the two and Four texans for
The Houston. Chronicle if you guys are following along two
and four start to the, season with that much offseason
change and excitement for a potential third straight, year there
will only be four wins behind The colts seven weeks
into the. Season if they do not win, TONIGHT i

(01:30:33):
can't wait to hear what the team has to say
about it after, that if in, fact it goes down like.
That but you pretty much sound like everybody we've talked
to and the same thing we've said throughout the. WEEK
i don't have a great feeling about. This Enjoy seattle
and hopefully it's the last game For mariners fans there
In seattle as they lose to The Blue jays elsewhere.

(01:30:54):
Tonight we'll catch you back In houston later this.

Speaker 9 (01:30:56):
Week, yeah, Thanks adam And Adam.

Speaker 5 (01:31:00):
Shit adam And adam taking care of business here on
THE a. Team we're just about fifteen minutes out from
getting you our signature, segment the, good the, bad the.
Ugly something very clear for everybody That jonathan had to
say about this matchup, tonight we'll lock in on that
to coming up.

Speaker 1 (01:31:19):
THE a On Sports talk seven ninety.

Speaker 5 (01:31:25):
Just wrapping up a conversation With Jonathan alexander From. Seattle
he covers The texans for The Houston. Chronicle we will
have a visit on the other, Side seattle's beat reporter FOR.
Espn seahawks beat Reporter Brady henderson will join us in
about to ninety. Minutes we wrap up the show just
before six, o'clock around five forty.

Speaker 4 (01:31:43):
FIVE i plan on introducing him only if he's.

Speaker 5 (01:31:46):
THERE i think that would be a wise thing to,
do probably not go through an entire question without him
being on the other end of the. PHONE i think
that's the way to do. It you'd like for the
guests to be, there which he will be. Today but
you Asked jaa about AN x factor and he Offered Jalen,
petrie AND i think he's. RIGHT i don't know that
it's going to. Be if it, works then that would be.

(01:32:10):
TREMENDOUS i think he's in a very bad. Position AND
i would say this about anybody playing in the slot
when you're if you're going to be asked to stay WITH.
JSN i think it's it's The texans maybe in a
little bit better position than some teams because Of petrie's,
abilities AND i just think it's tough to ask anybody
to do. THAT i don't think that The texans are

(01:32:31):
going to want that matchup very often and will. DO
i think a lot of things maybe a little differently this,
game specifically to avoid. That you, Know Jalen petrie's first
five games this, SEASON i think they'd have to be
regarded as extremely, good and not just because of the
clear raw. Numbers he's number one on the team and passes.

(01:32:52):
Defense he's number one on the team in. Interceptions he's
also got three and only two other players in the
entire league have. Four Those, clearly that means you've made
some of those PLAYS i gave. You if he has
five passage defense and he has three, interceptions WELL i
just told you he's made eight plays this. Year he's
been on the field for several hundred. Snaps it's more
about everything else that goes into. It AND i don't

(01:33:14):
think he's had an unbelievable, season BUT i do think
he's had a plus. SEASON i do think he's been
good for the. Defense good that they have him back
this year as opposed to all the games that were
missed last. YEAR i just would not be super excited
About seattle breaking the huddle and lining up and the
matchup that you see Is Derek Stingley junior Against No

(01:33:35):
name wide receiver out to the left And Kamari lassiter
against no name wide receiver off to the, right And
Jalen petrie in the slot ON, jsn which may.

Speaker 4 (01:33:45):
HAPPEN i would don't you think they're going to try
to make that. HAPPEN i.

Speaker 5 (01:33:48):
WOULD i think they would try to do it all
the time because he's going to be very successful out of.
There and, remember while he hasn't had his, teammate jsn's
teammate hasn't had a particularly strong, year particularly productive. Year
he's had very few games where he's been a big
part of the. Offense But Cooper cup when he's, healthy
is just the type of player that any given, day

(01:34:09):
any given, game depending on what the game plan, is
depending on what the other team is throwing at. You,
defensively he's tough to match up. WITH i don't Think
Sam darnold has paid him much mind this. Year he's
got two games with more than four, catches four games
with four catches or, fewer only has two hundred and
sixty one yards through six starts this.

Speaker 4 (01:34:28):
Year, Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:34:28):
SEAHAWKS i just both of those two receivers on the field,
together even at the stage That Cooper cup's at of his.
Career they JUST i think The texans are well equipped
because of what else The seahawks are lacking from a
big playmaking. Capability BUT i do think that Putting Cooper
cup in while TAKING Dk metcalf And Tyler lockett out

(01:34:52):
in the same offseason knowing how AWESOME jsn was gonna,
be AND i Think seattle knew. THAT i don't think
this is a surprise to them at. ALL i think
it's a super great cover for they. Do there's no
drop off from what their quarterback can. Do they just
haven't mixed it up very. Much they're number two and
number three pass catchers have forty catches on fifty one.

Speaker 4 (01:35:15):
Targets that's.

Speaker 5 (01:35:17):
Combined their number one pass catcher has five more targets
all by himself and two more catches all by, himself
and almost three hundred more yards all by. Himself, NO
i didn't know what you were gonna, Say what are
you gonna?

Speaker 4 (01:35:30):
Say i'm JUST i know it's a different, position but
for all intents and, purposes it's the same. Thing you
just got done talking about concentrating on a guy for
as much as his talent as it is a lack
of big names around. HIM i know it was last,
year but a lot of the principal parties are in.
Place it's the same thing that happened With Travis. Kelcey,

(01:35:52):
Now i'm not saying That Cooper cup has lost a
step Like Travis, kelcey BECAUSE i don't think that's the.
Case AND i do Think Travis kelsey, has you, know
had even last, year lost a big. Step but this
is just you Put you had to put that into
my brain BECAUSE i swear if we getting here tomorrow
we're talking about How Cooper cup just carved up The

(01:36:12):
texans because he was wide open all. Night it's going
to absolutely. Suck.

Speaker 5 (01:36:16):
Yeah the WAY i would see it a little differently
IS i don't Think Travis kelsey did.

Speaker 4 (01:36:19):
Anything he just.

Speaker 5 (01:36:21):
Was it was because they left him one hundred percent
on The texans miscommunication.

Speaker 10 (01:36:27):
That game.

Speaker 5 (01:36:27):
Exactly that's definitely a noteworthy part of the. DIFFERENCES i
just think The texans screwed. Up, yeah If Cooper cup
goes off on The, texans it will be him physically
beating a player well prepared and a defense well prepared
to not have that. HAPPEN i don't think The texans
BECAUSE i don't think they'll be so focused On Jackson
smith And jigba that they let that. Happen AND i

(01:36:49):
don't know If Sam darnold's going to want that to.
Happen this is it's WHAT i WISH i kind of.
WILL i brought it up Or friday After thursday night's,
game AND i don't know if you're so times afraid
of forcing the.

Speaker 4 (01:37:01):
Ball But Joe flacco just, SAID i don't really.

Speaker 5 (01:37:04):
Care and you Know cincinnati's head coach who calls their,
Play Zach, taylor same.

Speaker 4 (01:37:08):
Thing, Man he's just he's too good for you.

Speaker 5 (01:37:10):
Guys we're throwing the ball To Jamar chase as often as,
possible and he got twenty three targets and he made sixteen.
CATCHES i guarantee you that's How seattle SEES. Jsn and
if they want to throw him the ball fifteen, TIMES
i really don't think they're gonna worry about okay he
only caught nine of, them or are these three third
down catches didn't go our way because we quote unquote
forced it to. HIM i don't really think about it like,

(01:37:31):
that But i'm taking it to The texans side of.
Things nine targets For nico Against, tampa he caught three.
Balls the other three of the other games he's had
six targets are. Fewer he's got more than four catches
in a game. Once, now they didn't win this, game
The jacksonville, game but they clearly thought we have an advantage.

(01:37:52):
Here nico's too good for these, guys and they were.
Right eleven, targets eight, catches one hundred four yards. Touchdown
it's really the only explosive game he's. Had he's got
a couple of other explosive. Plays but shouldn't tonight be
a knight where you've decided to Have nico?

Speaker 4 (01:38:10):
EAT i was just about, TO i mean part of
me was about to Ask Jonathan alexander this like all this,
attention and rightfully so ON, jsn but like this is
the type of stage That Nico collins has thrived on.
Routinely it just doesn't get talked about as. Much for

(01:38:31):
whatever reason he's like, that HE i DON'T i don't
put him as a different tier than some of these.
GUYS i THINK i put his attention at a different.
Tier maybe that's because he's been, injured maybe it's because
he hasn't had as many spectacular statistical. Seasons BUT I
i'd put him up, there pound for pound with some
of the best in THE. Nfl AND i think that

(01:38:53):
if The texans are, smart that's absolutely what they'll do.

Speaker 5 (01:38:55):
Tonight, yeah he's played in one fewer. Game The texans
have played in one fewer. Game he's only been out
there for five, games and most everybody else has been
out there for, seven a handful for. Six Nico collins
has three hundred and twelve yards this, year less than T,
Higgins Jacoby, Myers Kayshawn, Boute Travis, Kelce Trey, Tucker Jalen,

(01:39:16):
WADDLES A. FLOWERS i, mean the list goes on and
on and. On he's twentieth in THE afc and receiving,
yards and, again keep in, mind he could be fourteenth
or twelfth had he played in the same number of.
Games they've already had their off, week but the point is.
Made IF i told You Nico collins was one of
the best eight wide receivers in THE, afc you'd, say
of course he. Is, well then he can't be twentieth

(01:39:37):
in yards or fourteenth in yards or twelfth in the.

Speaker 4 (01:39:40):
Years he make, numbers particularly in the first handful of
games this year THAT i DON'T i couldn't give you
a good answer right now BECAUSE i don't think it's
because he was quote unquote locked up by any. ONE
i think they just weren't targeting.

Speaker 5 (01:39:52):
Him the answer was they weren't targeting him because they
weren't designing plays to do so with what the problems
they were having offensive we, remember which's play THROUGH. Uac,
well they've played five. Games they've been able to operate
the offense the way they should. Twice and there's a
learning curve With Nick, kayley and there's a learning curve
with everybody because it's a new offense to a certain.

(01:40:13):
Extent but you, know go back and kind, of you,
know wrap your mind around what it looked like offensively
against The, rams The bucks And. Jacksonville And jacksonville was
the GAME i pointed out where they got the ball to.
Him The bucks And rams weren't locking him. Up just
like you, said The texans weren't able to do what
they wanted offensively because they weren't doing things up front
the way that they have gotten a little bit better

(01:40:33):
at the way that they needed. To AND i don't
Think Nick kayley's going to come. Aboard AND i almost
didn't even like the WAY i said it this. Segment
who goes into a game with a game plan of,
basically bleep, It we're throwing it to N. Eco that's
not a very good way to do. Things but as
the game unfolds and you would want to start a
game that, Way let's script like the first eight pass

(01:40:54):
plays and three of, them this is WHERE i want
the ball to. Go this is WHERE i think we're
going to create the. Opening this is where we're going
to have the. Advantage you can make it. Happen you
can force the ball there by designing things that allow
you to send the ball. There AND i think that's
what they were missing in the first few weeks of the.
Season you Got Nick kayley had a chance to self
scout during the off. Week i'm, sure just like everybody
else on the, offense sure that part of maybe our,

(01:41:17):
best arguably our best offensive players should probably see the
ball a little bit, more AND i don't Think seattle
is supremely equipped to slow.

Speaker 4 (01:41:25):
Them, down so maybe we will see.

Speaker 5 (01:41:27):
That bottom, LINE i don't think anybody really cares about
the individual numbers when it all comes down to. It
if the offense leads them to, points which leads them to,
wins then they won't be the two and Four. Texans
they'll be the three and Three texans in ninth in
THE afc after seven.

Speaker 1 (01:41:42):
Weeks THE A team On Sports talk seven Ninety.

Speaker 2 (01:41:50):
Now the, good oh, good the bad that's not, good
and the. Ugly don't make me go up with THE A.
Team we're.

Speaker 5 (01:42:00):
Good it Is Signature segment time four thirty each and
every weekday afternoon here on the Eight, team we hit
you with our signature. Segment mondays brings you the, good the,
bad the, UGLY a little bit of a minor mini
recap of what took place since we were last year
with you On friday. AFTERNOON a lot of football, activity

(01:42:20):
elimination of one of the remaining baseball teams too still to,
go and then we'll have A World series. CHAMPION a
lot of good. THINGS i will have the ugly ac
has the bad. Call you get us started here with
the good all, RIGHT i got two for you this.

Speaker 4 (01:42:34):
Week number.

Speaker 10 (01:42:34):
One congratulates are in an order to The Houston cougars
six and one with An Eighthan sanchez walk off field
goal to secure a thirty one to twenty eight victory Over.
Arizona they're after their best starts since twenty twenty.

Speaker 4 (01:42:47):
One Connor wigman was.

Speaker 10 (01:42:49):
Awesome one hundred and sixty four yards throwing three, touchdowns
fifth ninety eight yards rushing one, Touchdown so a grand
total of two hundred and sixty two yards of offense
and four scores was all she wrote for The cougar's,
quarterback and that was good enough to earn him off
Its player of The week And Ethan sanchez also Winning
Special Teams player of The. Week houston very much alive

(01:43:11):
in the hunt to potentially make it To, arlington the
Dark course for the college Football, playoff But Willie fritz
has done in two years impressive to say the, least
so we gotta give a lot of credit to this.
Team it's shocking that they're not getting more respect from
the eight, people but, again it's the eight.

Speaker 4 (01:43:26):
People what the hell do those idiots? Know they never
get it.

Speaker 10 (01:43:29):
Right, anyways so it's not shocking that they won't get
this one right and then the other. THING i think
it's pretty safe to say at this, point even though
it still hasn't gone, Official i'm gonna pat myself on
the back for being better than you and then being
better than You clinton at Fas, football Because i've already
kicked one, team one of your, asses And i'm gonna
kick the other. ONE i have three players left to,
Night rashad Why Jack's, pit The, jigba And Nico, collins

(01:43:50):
And i'm up by eleven points going into the first
quarter Of detroit Versus.

Speaker 4 (01:43:57):
Tampa you Have i'm under.

Speaker 10 (01:43:59):
A SAME i feel pretty good about sitting at six
and One Fantasy, football.

Speaker 5 (01:44:03):
With five teams in The big twelve with only one.
Loss The cougars are one of. Them they're playing another
one this weekend road trip To Arizona. State Arizona state
handed the only loss to another one of, Them Texas
tech this past. Weekend Sam levitt made his. Return and
then there are the two undefeated teams in The big.
TWELVE byu who for some reason was not getting enough

(01:44:24):
love or much love going into their game Against utah
and handled things. Nicely they got to four and oh
and are actually undefeated this. Season as we, dwindle that
number well under ten nationwide And cincinnati is four and.
Oh those five TEAMS i think clearly have been the
best teams in the, conference not only in that their
record indicates as, much but they have just played the best.

(01:44:46):
Football it was awesome that The cougars did not let
big plays be there, undoing especially as the game opened
with a ridiculous big play From Arizona. State Stefan johnson
has indicated on his own a couple of times on
social media that he expects his season to be over,
unfortunately will He, fritz saying earlier today they'll get a

(01:45:07):
second opinion on his. Injury would be a big, loss
and they've had a fuel already an injury, Standpoint but you,
know getting a win this week would be. Huge they're
three and, One Arizona state's three and one in conference.
Play Arizona state's an eight and a half point. Favorite
that game will be an evening, game a seven o'clock,

(01:45:27):
kick so six o'clock This saturday night for the coverage
to begin ON kprc And Connor wigman both throwing and
passing the.

Speaker 4 (01:45:34):
Ball in this last.

Speaker 5 (01:45:35):
Game he's taken a beating this, year and he was
actually knocked out of The Texas tech game for that.
Reason he's because he's SAYING i want these yards like
especially when he's been running the. Ball he's done a
better job THAN i would have expected of running the
football of finding where he's supposed to. GO a lot
of these are design quarterback, draws and he has picked

(01:45:57):
the right. Lane he has forced his way through small,
openings and he has found his way into, well if
it was third and, eleven well he game, fourteen if
it was you, know second and goal from the, three
he got into the end. Zone he's done a remarkably good.
JOB i think they expected him to be a huge
ad obviously when they added him the transfer portal and
coming back home and all those. Things but there's some

(01:46:17):
parts of his game That i've been even more impressed
with THAN i thought he would bring to the. Table
From bridgeland Via TEXAS a AND m and now back To,
houston you've got the bad ac well Bad.

Speaker 4 (01:46:27):
Well i'm gonna start with saying that telling somebody you
kick their ascid fantasy. Football when you won by seven,
points that's one. Scoreboard what do you? Got oh my, gosh. Skarboard,
ANYWAY i was brought this was brought to my attention
On friday. NIGHT i got a text message from One Adam,
wexler And i'm gonna paraphrase what you what you said to, me,

(01:46:52):
basically don't react to, this but check out the. Comments
so this guy is apparently the sports director at The
fox affiliate television affiliate there In. Seattle why do you
say apparently BECAUSE i can't believe they hired this jimoke
to do anything other than be the. Janitor and that's

(01:47:14):
actually an insult to janitors everywhere who are nice, people
because he's. Not you're probably aware a lot of things
have happened since, Then but since this is from over the,
weekend we can take you back To friday night When
George springer got drilled in the knee And mariners fans
basically did what they, do which is show their you
know what by, cheering and then when he got up

(01:47:35):
to walk, off they were, booing which is just in
and of. Itself But Aaron, levine as he is known
on social, media wrote the following at seven to twenty ONE. Pm,
well if you're going to hit anyone with a, fastball
that Hashtag. Mariners and, then of, course when he started

(01:48:00):
getting what we all would assume would be the blowback
that anybody that is gonna say something like that. Would
anyone that knows me should also realize THAT i never
wish a bad injury on. Anyone if it had been
at his, HEAD i never would have said. IT i
hope he's able to come, back but that doesn't take
away the knee jerk. Thought AND i said it out.

(01:48:23):
Loud i'm not the only one who had. IT i,
mean there's like fifty things wrong with everything about these two.
Posts the first one is, obvious the second one you
already knew that it was. Wrong that's why you needed
to walk it back with your second, statement where you
all you did was keep digging and digging and digging
and digging and digging that hole that you had created for.

(01:48:43):
Yourself then he uses the term knee, jerk which SHOULD i,
mean there's so many things about this. Guy and THEN
i started looking at some of his other, posts and
THEN i started looking pictures of, him which made me
irrationally angry because he has a super punishable. FACE i
really really hope he comes To houston next year just
SO i can say hi to.

Speaker 5 (01:49:03):
Him, yeah he covers the, team so a lot of
posts about the, games this particular series, clearly you, know
five and a half one thousand views on, this one
point three views on, that two or three or four
ten on that. One steady stream of people obviously follow
what he does as a prominent sports media member of that.

(01:49:23):
Community that particular post About springer had one point two million,
views and the always popular so far knock on whatever
surface this, Is i've never had to start a post
with anyone that knows. Me that is a pretty dead
giveaway if you've done something you probably have, done or
that jerk store called on there out of, you anyone

(01:49:45):
that knows, Me da da. Da there's more that, say
why WOULD i delete?

Speaker 12 (01:49:48):
It?

Speaker 5 (01:49:48):
All just on and on and, on and lots of
people in lots of, markets not Just George springer's former,
market decided to reach. Out LIKE i, know we try
to keep best the worst OF x to a minimum
every day because there's only so much you guys can.
Take this is a week's worth of shows just in

(01:50:09):
the replies and, comments AND i, again not just from
people In toronto or.

Speaker 4 (01:50:14):
You everybody knows except for.

Speaker 5 (01:50:17):
Him, apparently somehow that wasn't the ugly, Right So i'll
deliver that to.

Speaker 4 (01:50:21):
You on the other side.

Speaker 1 (01:50:24):
The a On Sports talk seven NINETY.

Speaker 5 (01:50:31):
I got to wrap up a couple of loose ends
and that includes the ugly portion of best OF X
WEXA c And cole here with. You this is for
the ugly and this is all for you.

Speaker 4 (01:50:44):
Guys, florida all of.

Speaker 5 (01:50:46):
You apologies maybe To Florida international And south And Central.

Speaker 4 (01:50:51):
Florida you did what you needed to. Do but between The.

Speaker 5 (01:50:56):
Gators and The seminoles and The, Dolphins Hole Lee cow
embarrassment number, one embarrassment number, two embarrassment number three was
long thought heading into this weekend That Billy napier was
going to get fired regardless of the outcome of their,
game and it was proven. True they won and they

(01:51:17):
decided to let him. Go bigger picture in college football,
is are the people who like giving this university money
happy with? You and if the answers, no it doesn't
really matter what happens after. That so they were able
to win their game and he wasn't able to keep his.
Job florida is looking for a new head, coach AND
i don't think it's going to Be Lane, kiffin even

(01:51:37):
though some are, saying, ah he wants following the long
ago footsteps Of Steve. Spurrier they are a good enough,
program even in an extremely difficult situation because of who
they play against weekend and week. Out now nine times
in the years moving, forward they'll have a perfectly legitimate
head coaching higher at least as legitimate As Billy. Napier
but that was an awful situation that really came to

(01:51:59):
a had very very. Quickly this, year they did Beat,
texas but they did not do enough obviously for ability
to keep his. Job the other coach In Florida Prominent
school Of Florida. State they weren't able to win their,
game but apparently they don't want to Fire Mark Mike
norvel and all the money that would go along with,
it even though that's kind of how things, are the buyout,

(01:52:20):
money the cost of hiring a new head. Coach if
you were watching late, late late Into saturday, night you
would have seen them lose To. Stanford they also lost
their quarterback on a vicious. Hit he slid and gave himself,
up absolutely got smashed into the turf and did not
see the field, again all while they were driving for

(01:52:41):
the game tying touchdown late in the, game which when
they put in their backup quarterback who's a, freshman didn't
work out quite as. Well so knocking the quarterback out
of the game with an illegal flagged play worked out
quite nicely For. Stanford and we'll see What castillanos his moving.
Forward But Florida state was a waiting word on their

(01:53:02):
entry into the four team. PLAYOFF i remember AT i
was AT Nrg stadium awaiting The texans. Kickoff that was
the Early sunday morning when they were announcing the four
team field and they had just lost their quarterback and
they were, undefeated and TWO sec teams were waiting with,
them And Florida state was left. Out it's been nothing

(01:53:23):
but disaster ball ever. Since they barely won any. Games
they haven't won even a single conference game since. Then
and that's an entire full season in twenty twenty four
and now the partial season this. Year but apparently not
only is he not they're not moving on from, Him
they're not going to do so until at least after
this what's going to be a horrible. Season AND i

(01:53:43):
think those weren't the worst of the. Stories i'm going
to get to The dolphins at a, minute but sticking
on the college, SIDE i knew they were. COMING i,
mean you're the. NUMBER i, MEAN i was supposed to
believe in the rankings at least a little, bit AND
i Thought miami was pretty, good and from WHAT i
had seen from, HIM i thought one of The Cavender twins',
boyfriend former, Boyfriend Carson, beck was a decent enough, player

(01:54:05):
a nice replacement for the number one overall. Pick but
that was an awful. Performance AND i Think louisville's a
good football, Team but that was an awful performance From,
miami and an even more awful performance from their, quarterback who.

Speaker 4 (01:54:17):
Kept throwing the ball to the other.

Speaker 5 (01:54:19):
Team AND i don't know what to think anymore of
what you're supposed to say and what you're not supposed to.
Say are the quarterbacks supposed to protect their players or
should they just be?

Speaker 4 (01:54:28):
Honest he said after the, game talking About Carson.

Speaker 5 (01:54:30):
Beck the receiver on the last, interception the game losing,
interception ran the wrong route and that's why the ball
went where it did and that's WHY i got picked
off the way it. Did and so he was apparently
honest about, it but that obviously makes it look like
you're not without. Fault and he, SAID i got to play,
better and he said some of the right, things AND
i watched the play live and then watched it many times.

(01:54:51):
AFTER i, MEAN i guess he ran the wrong, route
BUT i certainly know that was not a particularly good.
THROW i don't know what you wanted the guy to,
Do like what route would that be that he could
have on that particular, Play and all of those pale
in comparison to The dolphins. SITUATION i this is like
the third or fourth week in a. Row i've tortured

(01:55:11):
myself with press conference listening Of mike, McDaniel And i've
decided not to torture you guys with it because it's,
unplayable it's unusable.

Speaker 4 (01:55:22):
Audio how is he still there to give? It he.

Speaker 5 (01:55:24):
DOESN'T i, Mean i've spoken to him in person on
a couple of, occasions and most recently when they were
here during joint practices when things are going, okay and
for most of his tenure, there they went. Okay they
were hovering around five. Hundred they, were you, know borderline playoff.
Team they've been a playoff. Team so his mannerisms and
his manner in which he lets words come out of

(01:55:46):
his mouth was almost tolerable at one in. Six an
embarrassing performance after embarrassing performance and multiple three interception games
from his quarterback and all sorts of, infighting and you
can't do, this and there's no, leadership and they played
a one in five team and got humiliated by. Them
the only THING i could pluck out of what he

(01:56:07):
said today was when they went back and looked at
the film and he gave a two minute answer about
thirty seconds of content and a minute and a half
Of he's the, worst great, leader Though i'm sure they're
ready to run through a brick wall for.

Speaker 4 (01:56:21):
Him the only THING.

Speaker 5 (01:56:22):
I just Saw jet he wouldn't analyze the two teams
that were on the field because he didn't think his
team was out, there not that they weren't, trying but
you know what we put out there that's not worthy
of analyzing what we. Did as they went through the,
film and They jets have their own, problems and if
they were also located In, florida they would have made
it to The Ugly but, man did the state Of

(01:56:44):
florida have a bad football?

Speaker 4 (01:56:45):
Weekend? YEAH i look, AGAIN i can't believe this wasn't the.
Week are they just gonna let him finish the? Season
at some point there becomes.

Speaker 5 (01:56:54):
NO i, MEAN i know coaches get fired in week, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen,
Sixteen AND i know what you're also playing for playing?
For if you're The dolphins right, now you're one and,
six you're not playing for the. Playoffs you're playing for the.
Future but some of those players in your locker room
are part of your, future and you don't want what's
happening to be their thoughts about this football. Team The
dolphins are actually playing the worst team football in the

(01:57:17):
league in my. Opinion The jets just have no quarterback,
play so they have no chance to. WIN i, mean
they intentionally put To Rod taylor on the field this
pack past. Week that's how bad things are For Justin
fields and The. Jets but these teams have their, pick
they have their draft pick in the first. Round that's
what they're playing. For and this is NOT i, mean

(01:57:38):
there's probably a lot of good players in the draft
but they don't play, quarterback and these teams don't have.
One two is being paid like they have. One but
he's for the money he's. Making there's no debating. This
he's been the worst quarterback in THE. Nfl it is.

Speaker 4 (01:57:52):
AND i don't THINK i still right, NOW i don't
feel like they should be a part of this four
horse race for the number one pick in the. Draft
like The jets look like they belong in, that The
titans look like they belong in, that and The saints
look like they belong in. That The dolphins just even
with the injuries they've already, sustained even with how BUT

(01:58:14):
i just can't believe they're this bad this. Year tyreek
hillsmen hurt on. Offense that's a big. Injury.

Speaker 5 (01:58:21):
Though, yeah they were already losing when he was. THERE i,
know it really. DOESN'T i, MEAN i don't, place but
it doesn't. Matter it's not making any. Difference It's. Tua
it's one hundred. Percent he doesn't know where to put the.
Ball you don't know when to put the ball where
it's supposed to. GO i, mean you can't have eight
chan running giving you one hundred yards of offense every.
Week and still not figuring it.

Speaker 4 (01:58:37):
Out but it's one thing to lose to The colts
and The patriots in consecutive weeks because those two teams
are like you just got owned by The.

Speaker 5 (01:58:45):
Browns The jets are Starting taylor And Justin. Fields New
orleans Starting Spencer. Rattler Cam, ward the number one overall
pick is starting For. Tennessee you're starting a two hundred
and seventy five million dollars.

Speaker 4 (01:58:55):
Quarterback you. STINK i CAN'T i can't.

Speaker 1 (01:58:59):
Disagree the eighteen On Sports talk seven Ninety.

Speaker 2 (01:59:07):
Adam clinton And Adam wexler are the eighteen.

Speaker 4 (01:59:19):
Straight up five o'clock on A monday edition of THE
a Team Sports talks seven Ninety Space City Home NETWORK
a few hours away now four of them exactly from
The texans finally kicking off their latest matchup against The
Seattle seahawks in The Great northwest a nine o'clock start.

(01:59:42):
Time but don't, worry wex ESPN's monday night football double
headers are going to be a thing of the past
soon if THE nfl equity deal. Clears it's the fourth
and Final monday night football doubleheader this, year and hope
it's the last if all goes according to. PLAN i,

(02:00:04):
MEAN i don't really mind the other.

Speaker 5 (02:00:06):
ONES i, mean Most sundays you've got two games on,
it either the twelve o'clock window or the three o'clock,
Window so if you're, me you're flipping. Around and then
the last Three monday night football's we've had this, year
you've had two games going on at the same. Time
they just didn't kick off at the same, time SO
i didn't see all of. One it's no different than
what happens On. SUNDAY i mean to, me, Tonight i'm

(02:00:27):
not gonna miss either. GAME i can watch all of
them and watching baseball at the same. TIME i can't.
Wait you have you put in the, place what screens
are going to be?

Speaker 4 (02:00:36):
Having?

Speaker 5 (02:00:37):
What, well none of the games are on streaming, only
so my thumb will just get a.

Speaker 4 (02:00:41):
Workout, okay you won't have like your laptop just to
HAVE i might so you don't have to use your
thumb as.

Speaker 5 (02:00:49):
MUCH i, mean the baseball game is exciting and, all
but it's not the end of the. World IF i
don't know how he hit into a four to three
and how he struck.

Speaker 4 (02:00:59):
Out now he popped up these he's all playing for The.

Speaker 5 (02:01:02):
Mariners we shall, See, Yeah i'll Probably i'm pretty sure
between six and, Nine i'll be watching a lot Of Bucks,
lions a little bit Of Mariners Blue. Jays then between
nine and twelve it'll be pretty exclusive All texans all the.

Speaker 4 (02:01:18):
Time, well This DISNEY nfl deal they agree to is
going to, see basically the way of just put this
In layman's, terms they're going to change the current format
to where you're going to have the Traditional monday night
football game singular in weeks one through, seventeen and then
a Traditional week Eighteen saturday. Doubleheader in other, words like

(02:01:41):
it was before they started doing this.

Speaker 5 (02:01:42):
Nonsense, yeah There's week seventeen and eighteen right now are
kind of all flexible in terms of who's going to
play on what day and what matchups because they're trying
to make it as entertaining in playoff specific as. Possible
Certainly week, eighteen they'd love to see a game at
the end of the night On Sunday night that really
is only impacted by the two teams in the game ones,
in ones, out ones. Wins The division one doesn't something like.

(02:02:05):
That but over the course of the, season for the most,
part they get some pretty good. Matchups houston being two
and three isn't, ideal BUT. Cj, Stroudmiico, Ryans Will anderson
and The texans playing at foreign two seattles as, expected
it's a very good matchup in the game before it
is even better than. THAT i don't think they could
have figured that The bucks would be the best team
in THE nfc and kind of to that end in THE.

(02:02:27):
Afc nothing's going to change because The texans are the
ONLY afc team playing. Tonight And i'm not sure that
everyone's locked in on, this BUT i noticed it after
all the games were completed. Yesterday THE afc has four,
conferences or four. Divisions the division leaders are not The,

(02:02:47):
chiefs not The, texans not The, bills and not The.
Ravens the four teams that have been the final four
teams in THE afc playoffs in back to back. Seasons
seven weeks into the, season none of them are in first.
Place The chargers and are The chiefs so to, speak

(02:03:09):
because they have the same, record are in, second as
are The. Bills The texans are a third place. Team
The ravens are a last place. Team those are the
four presumed best teams in THE afc when the year,
began all facing an uphill battle to even be what
they were a year. Ago The bills aren't in dire

(02:03:29):
straits by any means at four and, two but they
trail The, patriots who are five and two and lost to.
Them The ravens trail. Everybody The texans have two, wins
The colts have, six and they haven't played each other
yet this, season and The colts far and, away statistically,
speaking have no peers in THE. Nfl if The bucks

(02:03:52):
win their game tonight and match them with the NFL's
best record of six and, one they only have to
outscore The lions by seventy eight points to tie The
colts for point. Differential, Tonight just, tonight The colts have
almost outscored their opponents by one hundred points in seven.

Speaker 4 (02:04:11):
Weeks, okay, first before we get to anything else that
actually makes. Sense they don't deserve. This this fan base
Got Peyton, manning then had one year, off Got Andrew
luck who was probably as as time goes, ON i

(02:04:31):
don't think history looks back as fondly on him as
maybe it did at the.

Speaker 5 (02:04:35):
TIME i was watching, Him LIKE i, SAID i told,
YOU i was watching The Florida State stanford game Late saturday.
Night he's out there on the, sidelines dapping up all
his guys AS gm Of stanford.

Speaker 4 (02:04:45):
Could still be playing very easily in THE, nfl but
doesn't want to with one. Arm and THEN i just.
CAN'T i can't fathom a world Where Daniel jones is
going to be this what he is right.

Speaker 5 (02:04:58):
Now so there was no paying their dues moments from
twenty nineteen till today as they trotted, Out jacoby, Said Philip,
Rivers Carson, Wentz Matt Ryan, Gardner Minshew Anthony. RICHARDSON i,
mean what what they his struggle, ANYTHING i, Agree but
what franchise that has struggled hasn't had a litany of

(02:05:20):
quarterback not Named, cleveland by the, way hasn't had a
litany of just awful quarterback names that you could rifle
through at some point during that time. Period, well normally
we're talking about The browns when we do, that and
The colts during those quarterback years went eleven and five
and nine and eight and nine and eight and eight and.

(02:05:40):
Nine they weren't even embarrassingly, bad but they were wasting
the opportunity to actually attend the playoffs more than just,
once because the whim they currently still have wasn't very.
Good he really didn't do a whole lot differently this.
Offseason it's just worked. OUT i, mean are you trying
to tell me That Philip rivers at the late stages
of his career Or carton Went Carson wentz at the,

(02:06:02):
beginning Or Matt ryan at the late, stages is different
than Acquiring Daniel. Jones it's really. Not it's very very.
Similar Daniel jones has had many more poor years than good.
YEARS i brought this up a while, ago and it
certainly looks like it's playing out again his first year
with a new coach that's widely regarded as a very
good offensive, coach offensive play. Caller in previous, stints et

(02:06:25):
cetera has worked out tremendously, well worked out great when
he was With Day ball in year one In New
york and essentially earned him a contract extension which gave
him a lot more money than some players that are
now no longer In New york. Either it's working out
very well in year one With Shane. Steichn who's to
say it works out again in year two and we
don't even know what this year is going to Hold
and quite obviously this is to another. Level The giants

(02:06:48):
played good, football and The giants made the. Playoffs The
giants even won a playoff. Game but he wasn't quarterbacking
the best team in his. Conference he is right, Now
i'm not sure what debate we even need to. HAVE
i don't even know what kind of matchup you want
to throw at. Me oh, no if they played The,
patriots no way The colts are. Winning hey, Man if

(02:07:09):
they played The, broncos, yeah no way The colts are.
Winning who is? It if they played The, chiefs there's
no way they're. Winning there's not a single team THE
afc you could say that comfortably and really truly believe
they might not. Win they've lost a. Game they lost
to The. RAMS i, mean who's the best team in THE.
Anfc it is The, colts but, ANYBODY i, mean, seriously

(02:07:33):
thirty three points in the fourth, Quarter come, On, giants
just run the ball every play and go. HOME i,
mean The giants did retake the, lead but then they
let The broncos have two basically miracle plays at the.
End they also gave The broncos a miracle by missing
the extra point and so they lost on the final
kick of the. Game that was a kick in the
gut To texans. Fans If texans don't win any, games

(02:07:55):
none of this other stuff will. Matter but The broncos
at four and three instead of five and, two get some.
Help kind of a big.

Speaker 4 (02:08:01):
Deal yeah, Yeah and The giants had no business losing that,
game especially the way they did. It it was also
the most entertaining game by far, YESTERDAY i, THINK.

Speaker 5 (02:08:11):
I mean Bo nicks did what he'd been doing all.
Year the first three, quarters nothing incomplete, passes missing, guys
not knowing when to, run when to, tucket what to.
Do just totally different from the player he was almost
the entire season a year, ago and the type of
player he was to get them into the playoffs and
a great late season. Run and then the fourth quarter
happened and he scored four. Times he had four touchdowns

(02:08:33):
in the fourth. Quarter he was unbelievable for about fifteen,
minutes and that was all it took to beat The.

Speaker 4 (02:08:39):
Giants jackson dart Or Brian, daball who is, least who
is lesser or who is the least likable of those?
Two from their post game ACTIVITIES i just say WHAT i,
MEAN i like both of. Them, No i'm saying how
it all went down. Yesterday nobody's gonna be happy about.
THAT i. Guess i'm like watching the UH i think

(02:09:01):
it was The sunday night pregame show and they're doing
like the rapid fire recap of the day's action and all,
that And i'm watching the press conference And Jackson dark
comes up on the screen And i'm just, like oh my,
Gosh delta bravo so, Much Delta.

Speaker 5 (02:09:14):
Bravo, yeah he's he can be all, that and he's
a billion times better for his football team than a
guy going to The hall Of.

Speaker 4 (02:09:22):
Fame, like they can't.

Speaker 5 (02:09:23):
Win we were playing, terrible, uninspired loser football With Russell
wilson even in the game they scored thirty seven, points
and now they're playing super, competitive almost nothing but winning.
FOOTBALL i, mean this is a total, giveaway and he
had his role in, it, Clearly but he's not just
a spark and he's not playing.

Speaker 4 (02:09:42):
Flawlessly he's not throwing the ball.

Speaker 5 (02:09:44):
Flawlessly Give cam scay Du, YEAH i mean he likes
hitting guys two and a half yards deep in the
end zone because nobody else hit, him so he's, LIKE
i gotta hit somebody barrels into a defensive back two
and a half yards after he'd already.

Speaker 4 (02:09:56):
Scored.

Speaker 5 (02:09:58):
No they both of those two, guys and we saw
it because they were in prime time a week, ago
that they bring juice and this team just needed it so.
Badly Brian dable is definitely not gonna last the year
or wouldn't be back in a. Year and it's changed.
Everything they still have their. Problems they're also they've only
won a couple of, games but they have something in

(02:10:18):
terms of. Moxie you got to make Sure jackson's a better,
player but his first year, player, well it's totally.

Speaker 4 (02:10:25):
Fine what he's doing right. Now the same head coach
With Daniel, jones and they were just an utter disaster
the last year they were. Together they went to the
playoffs to either ONCE i, remember but that team also
Had Saquon. Barkley did it? Not it? DID i just
can't believe That Daniel jones is doing this for the
freaking cults of all teams.

Speaker 2 (02:10:44):
The eighteen On Sports talk seven.

Speaker 4 (02:10:47):
Ninety it is the eight Team Sports talks seven Ninety
Space City Home, Network continuing here on A monday edition
of the program.

Speaker 5 (02:11:03):
Five o'clock came and went by the, way and there
was no contract extension For Tarry.

Speaker 4 (02:11:09):
Easton sad about he will hit.

Speaker 5 (02:11:11):
Unrestricted free agency in the, offseason as will many others
from that first round draft class that did not reach
extensions by today's five O'clock central time. DEADLINE i think
this is totally. FINE i think it will be fine
For Tari. EASTON i think it will be fine for The.
Rockets stability and knowledge of concrete heavy dollar earnings can be.

(02:11:33):
Nice if a player believes there's more to be earned
and they can't get it from where he currently, is
it's certainly well within his rights to attempt to go get,
It but, again as a restricted free, agent it's not
quite as easy to do, that and a season THAT
i think he's absolutely in line for is one that
will pay him more than it.

Speaker 4 (02:11:54):
Seems like he was able to.

Speaker 5 (02:11:57):
Get multiple reports come out out that they weren't really
particularly close on a, deal SO i imagine he was
asking for. SOMETHING i actually think his play this, year
if he's, healthy will suggest that he could go out
and GET i think he's a game, changer AND i
know that sounds Like i'm calling him one of the
best players in the, league But i'm being super. Specific

(02:12:17):
he changes how the game is being played when he
comes in off the, bench changes, tempo, changes, energy, changes the.
Vibe usually gives your team easy baskets almost out of the.
Gate and that second unit for this, team which he
will undoubtedly be the leader, of with who they have
on this, ROSTER i cannot wait to see the havoc
that they. CAUSE i also think his offensive game is.

(02:12:40):
UNDERRATED i think he's a better offensive player as long
as he's a little bit more effective at the. Basket
five tippins that result in four misses probably not, ideal
especially if they equal all, misses BUT i do think
he has gotten better. THERE i think he's CERTAINLY i
think you just think he's a much better offensive player
than has kind of been on display because of who
he's been out there that are maybe.

Speaker 4 (02:13:00):
Better how much do you think this? Is The rockets
willing to pay that money come next offseason provided he's,
healthy takes the next, step does all the stuff that
they're hoping he will do this, year and in the
fact that he'd be, restricted it does again because back

(02:13:22):
to what teams will sometimes do They LIKE i always
think about When Chandler parsons signed with The. Mavericks you,
Know cuban offered him some insane contract And darrell was,
like bet.

Speaker 5 (02:13:35):
Microison pills or a ridiculous. Contract it can be, done
and it can make things very, difficult but you also
have to, consider are you you Know Golden state has
been in luxury tax hell during much of this. Run,
yep they decided to keep, everybody and they were a
championship winning, team SO i think that makes a lot of.
Sense The rockets aren't that, yet and if you want

(02:13:57):
to just pay, everybody we'll go. Ahead but what you
don't don't know what it's going to get, you and
you don't know if it's really worth. It from how
much money DO i really want to? Spend If i'm
now stuck spending all this money AND i haven't gotten
to the accomplishment's, part.

Speaker 4 (02:14:09):
Let's start right. Here how much of this was as
of last, Year tari wasn't playing back to.

Speaker 5 (02:14:16):
BACKS i, mean there are definitely some injury concerns because
his injury is just so different than he broke his
leg and it cost him six, months or he tore
HIS acl but now he's three years removed and everything's.

Speaker 4 (02:14:30):
Fine Like Josh hater didn't come out for the eighth
and the ninth until a team invested in him. Heavily
i'm not saying it's the exact same, thing But i'm,
saying if he was looking for some exorbitant number in
the rocket's, eyes and you're not even playing on back to, backs, Well.

Speaker 5 (02:14:44):
Hater didn't go out there so he could get. Paid
easan didn't go out there because they told him not.

Speaker 4 (02:14:50):
TO i, know But i'm thinking put it this. WAY
i don't know it's for. SURE i just heard a
lot of whispers around his, injury AND i think there
was cause for. Concern when you're gonna talk about investing
heavily in a, Guy, oh nothing sounds crazy about that at.
All the guy's.

Speaker 5 (02:15:09):
Played he played seventy nine times the last two years,
combined so just a touch less than a FULL nba
season over two FULL nba. Seasons it was just fifty
seven games a year, ago and obviously a lot of
the games you're talking about were back to. Backs he
played with tremendous energy and seemingly without, issue and the
games he was out there for AND i imagine he's
in a position health wise where that number goes. UP

(02:15:31):
i don't think they have a plan to do. That
some teams have already come out and said that about their,
players Like Golden state already Said Al horford's not playing
back to. Backs there'll be a bunch of other players
for others.

Speaker 4 (02:15:41):
Because he's eighty years, old.

Speaker 5 (02:15:42):
RIGHT i don't think they're in that situation with tari
in twenty twenty, five twenty, Six but it doesn't change the. Overall,
well what do you think about his injury. History it's
a huge. Concern it'll be a huge concern for the
team next year that he signs, with if it's Not,
houston even if he plays a fully healthy SEASON i
think he, had AND i can't even tell you specifically

(02:16:02):
what everybody knows is going to be of great. Concern
even with all of the poking and prodding that doctors
will do when they can to try to make sure
it's nothing that they should be concerned about in.

Speaker 4 (02:16:15):
The, future they just will. Be that's the nature of.
It on a completely unrelated, Note vladdie pulled up To
game seven in a maple Leafs, Jersey so Basically i'm
Going Blue jays by twenty.

Speaker 5 (02:16:27):
Tonight, well doesn't that also mean The texans are going
to win by a thousand? Tonight, yes if you're, Unaware
Jalen peatree hopped on the bird To seattle in a
and a cheme alajuwon? Jersey which one was? It which
version not the good? One did it have pinstripes on?

Speaker 10 (02:16:44):
It?

Speaker 5 (02:16:45):
No did it have shark teeth on? It, yes so
they're not. Pinstripes what do you call?

Speaker 4 (02:16:49):
Them vapor? Trails vapor? Trails vapor. TRAILS i just. Listen
i've seen somebody just tweeted me about this. TODAY i
think it Was christian Hold. ON i want to scroll
scroll very far where it. Is what If Adam klan
will hate me for, This but the quote teeth on
a rocket ship jerseys that players Dream, Clyde Francis mobley

(02:17:12):
And Yo war from ninety five to two thousand and,
three those were WHAT i grew up. With and court
designs be, damned especially in the first season of The,
change because he's talking about all the paint where you
could barely see any wood because the stupid rocket blasting
off took the whole court. Up he said they're so.
Underrated maybe to you they, are AND i get that
from a certain age. Range but if you're wex and

(02:17:35):
ME i e olds and The rockets just won back
to back championships and you, decide as the owner Less
alexander that you want to change everything about the look
of this organization from a logo and color scheme, STANDPOINT
i don't. Know i'm just kind of. WEIRD i don't
think that's a good.

Speaker 5 (02:17:54):
Idea, yeah less about them being, ugly even if they
might have, been and oh they happened to be ugly,
too and when you did, it of it and they
could have. Changed i'll tell you right, now And i've
told you this off the year a million. Times they're
they're bringing them back this. Year and ACTUALLY i just
saw a tweet where it breaks down how many games
they're gonna wear each version of each jersey this. Year
the Dunkster knot is back this, year which means not

(02:18:16):
just the, court the court's back.

Speaker 4 (02:18:17):
Too if The, rockets this is the only thing that
would get me to shut up about changing back to
the ketchup and. Mustard if The rockets, said all, right,
fine we're changing it, Up you're not gonna get your
ketchup and, mustard but our permanent one percent of the.
Time this is the tried and true when we're not
doing alternates logo and. Jerseys is the h town with

(02:18:38):
the dunkster. KNOT i would absolutely be ecstatic about. That it's.
Awesome that's how good they. Are that's how that's how
much they knocked it out of the park or hit
a three pointer when they came out with that jersey,
color skiing court all everything about slam. Dunk it's a slam.
Dunk it's a. Touchdown.

Speaker 5 (02:18:55):
Yeah The city version for The rockets this year To Goal.
City they've got the association jerseys that are. White have
you got the icon? Additions those are, red and they've
got the statement. Editions that's What i'm Wearing Black city. Editions,
NOVEMBER i think is when we will see them worn

(02:19:16):
for the first.

Speaker 4 (02:19:16):
Time without giving you a specific, date they're only wearing
THEM i think seventeen times this. Year this seems like
not a, lot but that's the. Season, yeah four jerseys
and they only wear them at, home so that's half
the home. Games, basically they're not for the other, people
do you, REMEMBER i don't know for the, roadies don't
quote me on this BECAUSE i Want blake to get
upset with. Me, APPARENTLY i think it Was. Blake it

(02:19:36):
was a member of The fatida, family AND i think
it Was blake that was, Like, uh those are. FIRE
i want more of those. Games and he upped the
number of the games that The rockets are gonna wear
The dunkster not jerseys at home and it ended up
being more than half of the games this, year Which
i'm fine. With, well you'll.

Speaker 5 (02:19:53):
See him in the reds tomorrow against The Oklahoma City.

Speaker 4 (02:19:58):
Thunder are they wearing white or? Blue or you'll hear
them in the?

Speaker 5 (02:20:01):
Reds you And matt will make that very clear during
the early portion of the broadcast When matt runs through
the particulars about which east and west and north and
south they're going and the referees that are working the
game rights.

Speaker 4 (02:20:13):
Left on your radio. Dial, okay but that doesn't mean
anything to.

Speaker 5 (02:20:16):
Me they'll be wearing the red uniforms with the white.
Lettering and you, know get all that.

Speaker 4 (02:20:22):
He did that too when he was, ready but he
doesn't do it now because you do the. Same you
can see.

Speaker 5 (02:20:26):
IT i think you'll see the those multiple times over
the first week of the.

Speaker 4 (02:20:30):
SEASON i think he'll be just fine with. Them those
penstripe abominations were the bleeping ugliest jerseys ever In rocket's.
History they were OBJECTIVELY i don't even want to try
and say that on the. Air it's a term used
in mean. Girls it starts with AN f and ends with.
UGLY i just have to be.

Speaker 5 (02:20:49):
Careful it starts with AN f and ends with, Ugly
so you must be talking about fetch.

Speaker 4 (02:20:56):
That does not fetch does not end with.

Speaker 5 (02:20:58):
Ugly, well we got a pair of tickets to go
see The cougar's on the first Of november When West virginia's.
Town we got a pair of tickets to See Monster
Energies Ama supercross coming up In january over AT Nrg.

our final, segment we can Visit seattle and ESPN's Brady

(02:21:19):
henderson On Texans seahawks all coming up.

Speaker 2 (02:21:24):
The eight On Sports talk seven.

Speaker 4 (02:21:27):
NINETY i hope you do, That, LEX i hope you
asked that question as only you can ask. It for
the ticket. Giveaway in the, meantime it's time for in
case you missed, it some of the things we have
not gotten to or In cole's, opinion we didn't talk about.

Speaker 10 (02:21:46):
Enough oh so NOW i wanted to go, Sure, MICHEL
i didn't know you, KNOW i was baring for you
to go ahead and take.

Speaker 4 (02:21:53):
It away to making sure you have oxygen from during
the break when you were laughing. Uncontrollably i'm wasting your,
game not going to do the, intro do it the
way that wex does every single. Day what do we? Have,
okay Area Houston.

Speaker 10 (02:22:06):
Texans they have a game tonight against The Seattle, seahawks
but they already know who they're probably gonna be facing
off against next week when they walk home in The
San francisco forty Nine, ers primarily at quarterback because Of
according To Kyle, Shanahan Rock purty will likely reach his
return next, week but he will not potentially be.

Speaker 4 (02:22:25):
Available it sounds like as of.

Speaker 10 (02:22:26):
Now Mac jones is gonna be the starter Against texans
In week. Eight last, night seventeen to twenty six, four
one hundred and fifty two, yards one, interception rush for five,
YARDS i mean eleven yards off By carries had a,
big critical first down in a twenty to ten win
to the forty nine ers to help them improve the
five to. Two he is likely going to be the
starting quarterback In week eight when.

Speaker 4 (02:22:46):
The texans take on The San francisco forty nine.

Speaker 5 (02:22:48):
Ers he hasn't been, overwhelming but they've played very good
football with.

Speaker 4 (02:22:52):
Him last night was his least productive.

Speaker 5 (02:22:54):
Game he was averaging over three hundred yards a game
before last, night but he also doesn't make as many.
Mistakes he has thrown four picks in one hundred and
ninety four. Attempts Rock party's thrown four picks in seventy three.
Attempts it's the same old.

Speaker 4 (02:23:09):
Thing with The.

Speaker 5 (02:23:09):
NINERS i, mean it hardly matters With Kyle shanahan And San. Francisco,
oh you play quarterback. Perfect you fit our system. Brilliantly
you're gonna play just like the guy you, replaced and
just like the guy he, replaced and just like the
guy before him. Replaced maybe it'll be a touch better
and we can win a playoff game or.

Speaker 4 (02:23:27):
Two maybe we can even reached In Super.

Speaker 5 (02:23:29):
Bowl But Rock party And Mac jones are probably both
better Than Jimmy, Garoppolo Jimmy garoppolo quarterback To Kyle, Shanahan
niners to The Super.

Speaker 4 (02:23:39):
BOWL i still can't believe we Watched Jimmy garoppolo Versus
Patrick mahomes in The Super. Bowl defense is played to
kind of equalize. It we were there, before we.

Speaker 5 (02:23:50):
Weren't, yeah we were there for the fund not the.

Speaker 4 (02:23:52):
Game, yeah leading up to, it we did not see
the halftime show Featuring shakira and J.

Speaker 5 (02:23:58):
Lo All, right six games, out six days out From
Texans niners back here at N Rg, stadium three consecutive
games at, home and now we know what to look,
For niners Into christian.

Speaker 4 (02:24:09):
McCaffrey what else you? Have So Penn state has a
job opening after Frying James.

Speaker 10 (02:24:13):
Franklin Kirk signetti's not going to be the next head
honcho up, There can signed a new deal With, indiana
and so there's now speculation on who could be.

Speaker 4 (02:24:21):
The long term replacement For James.

Speaker 10 (02:24:23):
Franklin and one name that has come up on multiple
times Is TEXAS a and m said Coach Mike. Elco
Seven ohs start for the first time since nineteen ninety.

Speaker 4 (02:24:31):
Four aggie's looked to be a legit. Threat to go
to the college Football.

Speaker 10 (02:24:35):
Playoff they feel as if they are a team that
will has all the intangibles and resources to be really.
Promising the, legacy the history and the patistry Of Penn,
state and the fact That Mike elco played at The
university of penn and grew up in the state Of
pennsylvania would at least entice the offer. Well, today during
his media press, conference he was, asked do you have

(02:24:56):
a comment on your name being linked to the job
opening out in State.

Speaker 13 (02:25:01):
COLLEGE i don't discuss it with my. PLAYERS i think
it's absolutely hilarious how you guys cover. COACHES i think
three weeks AGO i was getting. Fired Now i'm getting.
Hired now you don't want me to. Stay But i'm lead,
like it's just it's absolutely. Hilarious it is a waste
of brain space to spend any time talking or thinking
about any of that.

Speaker 4 (02:25:20):
Stupidity here's my first. Thought who over the last three
weeks wanted him?

Speaker 13 (02:25:25):
Fire?

Speaker 5 (02:25:26):
Nobody, Nobody but he was making a.

Speaker 4 (02:25:34):
Point if you take him to be, literal then that's the.

Speaker 5 (02:25:37):
Answer nobody wanted him fired when they were four and,
oh nobody want him. Fired as they played out the
early portion of this. SEASON i don't BELIEVE i know
the point he's trying to, make and he is just
basically poking at the. Media but being, so it's hard
to tell what coaches when they deliver a message like.
This they're in an awkward position as it, is because
they're trying to do a job and their agent may

(02:25:59):
be working on trying to get them another job where
they really truthfully aren't, interested which is exactly Where Mike
elko should. Be So i'll take him at his, word
And i'll remind him if he doesn't, know and everybody,
else if they don't, know not a better. Job it
might be easier to win there if you only have
to contend with two other really good, programs if you

(02:26:21):
allow For indiana to be the other, one Because michigan
is very, beatable and until they do something, differently they're
a good but not great college football. Program, currently it's much, had, much,
much much much harder to. Win The aggies could be
seven and five in seven, weeks not because they're, bad
but because it's difficult to. WIN i don't think that's gonna,
Happen BUT i truly believe it's a better job and

(02:26:43):
think to What cole said describing the legacy and the
pageantry At State college and all. That you, Mean Joe,
paternal the Disgraceful Joe. Paternal that's. Ridiculous it is not
a better. Job and you still have to win more
Than James franklin or you're a, failure or you're gonna
get fired way before your twelve years there are, up

(02:27:06):
which is what he was there. For, yeah better. Job
TEXAS a AND. M, AGAIN i recognize how. Difficult And
TEXAS a AND m may never win AN sec, Title
they never win AN ncaa, Title they might not even
ever make the twelve team. Playoff they, will BUT i
doubt that's where they're. Headed and, honestly what did you
hire him. For if you hired him because you thought
he could help you, win what is he. Doing he's

(02:27:29):
helping you. Win you're in a good place both with
your current roster and the likely future. Roster you're in
a good place where the conference is because it is wide.

Speaker 4 (02:27:39):
Open who's the best team in THE? Sec Go?

Speaker 5 (02:27:41):
Alabama name five teams this? Week it could Be. Georgia
two weeks, ago it could have been all. Missed it
currently should Be TEXAS, a you name. It it's not
an overwhelming AND i know one thing it. Isn't it's NOT.
LSU i heard somebody talk about that big upset this past,
Weekend vanderbilt over Sa ls. Stop not an, upset not

(02:28:03):
as good As vanderbilts or honestly even.

Speaker 4 (02:28:05):
Close what?

Speaker 10 (02:28:06):
Else, Hey, clinton just be ready to have your head
explode Because Steven asmith likes to say dumb things all the,
time and once again he founds a way to say
something very dumb when he was on The Carmelo anthony
podcast talking about.

Speaker 4 (02:28:17):
Who is the sleeper in this YEAR'S Nba. Finals i'll
let's take a guest for. It play the. Audio it's
a Sleeper.

Speaker 14 (02:28:24):
Spurs If Kyrie irvin comes back healthy And Anthony davis is,
HEALTHY i Think dallas should be.

Speaker 4 (02:28:31):
There you could just stop. Them is the reigning defending.

Speaker 14 (02:28:35):
Champion they pretty much had their way with most teams
this year before.

Speaker 2 (02:28:39):
The, finals before it was pushed to seven.

Speaker 1 (02:28:41):
Games Not.

Speaker 14 (02:28:42):
Dallas the year before they Took Oklahoma city Out kyrie
and those.

Speaker 4 (02:28:46):
Boys is that?

Speaker 14 (02:28:46):
Kryptonite and then not only, that you Got Anthony.

Speaker 4 (02:28:52):
Davis Anthony, davis who Doesn't Anthony haynes BOD i got
news from.

Speaker 14 (02:28:56):
You Lively gafford and these brothers can, Play Jason kid can.

Speaker 4 (02:29:00):
Coach problieve that The, dallas if, healthy will win the.

Speaker 5 (02:29:06):
Chip you think they can go from Traded luca and
the number one.

Speaker 4 (02:29:10):
Pick i'm not mad at. That it's a sexy dog.
Horse i'll give you.

Speaker 5 (02:29:14):
That, Yeah, yeah they're sexy dark horse sleeper. Team there's
only so many teams you can.

Speaker 4 (02:29:20):
Say pretty bold for somebody who constantly craps on The
dallas football.

Speaker 5 (02:29:25):
Scene that's because he loves to hate The. Cowboys who
can't appreciate that He's he's a very nice man in.
Person he says a lot of dumb. Stuff you got
an opportunity to grab tickets. Here we'll make it easy for.

Speaker 11 (02:29:38):
You.

Speaker 5 (02:29:38):
Know the number seven one, three two one two five
seven ninety is to make that phone call and request
the ones you'd, like whether It's Sponster energy Super cross
tickets In january the thirty first At Anergy stadium or
Those cougar tickets to See West virginia AT Tdcu stadium
On november. First we'll make that phone call and we'll
make that happen for. You Brady henderson Talking seahawks. Football

(02:30:00):
it's next.

Speaker 1 (02:30:05):
The ad On Sports talk seven ninety.

Speaker 5 (02:30:11):
Oh three hours and change until, Kickoff so an opportunity
once again to check in on what are they going
to be doing Tonight seattle And, houston Not seattle In.
Toronto we know what they're going to be. Doing toronto's
going to be, winning but we might not know what's
going to be happening with this football. Game And Brady,
anderson who covers The seahawks FOR, espn is joining us.

(02:30:32):
Here we certainly appreciate your. Time i'm sure it will
be an interesting night For seattle. Fans do you Think
seattle fans believe in what they're seeing with the four
and Two seahawks at this point in the.

Speaker 4 (02:30:42):
Season, Brady, YEAH i think.

Speaker 12 (02:30:45):
SO i think as much as you can believe in.
IT i, mean you, know they have you, know they
have lost those two, games you, know but they had
a chance to win them at the end and it
was you, know they were one play. Away SO i
think going into this season there was plenty of skepticism
them about you, know About Sam donald and What Sam.
Donald you, know which one they were going to, get

(02:31:05):
whether it was the Great Sam, donald for the first
fifteen games or sixteen games last, season or the one you,
know the guy who he had been previous to. That
SO i Think donald is really answering that. Question and
as he's done, THAT i think people have gotten more
and more optimistic about what this team could. DO i,
mean they're foreign. Too they do play in a tough,

(02:31:26):
division but they're foreign two and you know there there
is room to grow just with the run, game AND
i think with the defense's ability to close out. Games
they've also haven't been healthy on. DEFENSE i think all in,
all this team is in a pretty good spot and
the trade deadline is coming, up and you, know one
thing we know ABOUT. Johnh schneider is he's not afraid
to make a. Deal SO i think In, seattle, yeah

(02:31:48):
even though The mariners might this might be one of the,
rare rare occasions where The mariners are gonna kind of
upstage The seahawks even On Monday night. Football but, YEAH
i THINK i think plenty of people are PRETTY opti
to stick about this.

Speaker 5 (02:32:00):
Team, well what you said About donald is Something i've
been talking about since it took place last, year the
first sixteen games of the, season when the pressure got
after The seahawks at the end of the year Against
detroit and then again at the beginning of the postseason
and the end of the postseason when they played The.
Rams it was just a totally different offense and a
totally Different darnald analyzing the matchup against The texans, defense

(02:32:25):
The texans pass, rush et. Cetera do you think The
texans can do that to The seattle offensive line and
obviously in Turn Sam.

Speaker 12 (02:32:32):
Darnold, Yeah and that was one of the, things you,
know When donald signed With, seattle you, know after that
great year In, minnesota he was talking about, how you,
know he'd learned kind of some lessons over those final
two games about you, know you got to get the
ball out on time when.

Speaker 9 (02:32:46):
You're playing in THE.

Speaker 12 (02:32:46):
Nfl and he didn't say, this BUT i think he meant,
that you, know especially to be the case when your
offensive line kind of was deteriorated like it happened last
season In. Minnesota, so you, know he has been a
guy over the course of his career WHO i think
some of his, struggles certainly not all of, them but you,
know some of his struggles could be attributed to kind
of a tendency to maybe not process as quickly as

(02:33:08):
he could and hold onto the. Ball that's really one
of the things he's done phenomenally well this season is
he is getting the ball out on. Time he's not taking,
sacks and certainly the offensive line has a lot to
do with, that But darnold is doing his part by you,
know just kind of speeding up his process and there's
times where he does hold on the. Ball he's done
a phenomenal job of escaping pressure and not just you,

(02:33:30):
know avoiding, sacks but creating these pretty big plays on the.

Speaker 9 (02:33:33):
Run he's very.

Speaker 12 (02:33:34):
Good at throwing on the run and that was a
big part of why The seahawks thought he would be
a great fit for this This Klint kobak offense because
it's an outside zone, system so you, know there's gonna
be a lot of you, know bootlegs off of those
those outside zone, runs and so he has done a
really good job of. That now that is going to
be the challenge to that BECAUSE i don't think he

(02:33:54):
has faced maybe In week one Against Nick, fosa BUT
i don't think he has face maybe quite the duo
of edge rushers as As houston. Has and kind of
a fun fact About Will Anderson junior is you know
in the twenty twenty three, draft that was the guy
The seahawks really. Wanted he was the number one defensive
player on their, board AND i think the guy that

(02:34:15):
they would have taken had he fallen to number. Five,
Obviously houston stacked him up at number three of The
seahawks Took Devin, witherspoon who's it's been a pretty good consolation.
Prize But anderson was actually the guy that they really
had their sights set on in that. Draft.

Speaker 4 (02:34:29):
Brady when The mariners lose tonight and their you, know
The World series drought continues into its billionth year in a,
row Will seattle sports fans console themselves by telling themselves
that they have the best wide receiver in THE nfl
on their. Team and that's a long winded way of,
saying do you think that's where he? Is or do
you think Maybe Justin jefferson is still number? One he's

(02:34:52):
won a you where do you PUT? Jsn you?

Speaker 12 (02:34:56):
Know, YEAH i MEAN i have a hard time putting
hit him right? Now over guys who have you? Know
Justin jefferson is what nearly gone for two thousand? YARDS
i mean that there's there's a couple two or three
guys in there where it's hard to say.

Speaker 4 (02:35:08):
He's really above them right.

Speaker 12 (02:35:10):
Now But i'd say if you count the five best
receivers in THE, NFL i think you've got to PUT
jsn in there at some. Point and you know he's
doing all of. This he's leading THE nfl in, receiving
or at least he was through the first six weeks
with almost seven hundred. Yards that's despite playing in the
league's most run heavy. OFFENSE i mean at least, AGAIN

(02:35:31):
i haven't looked at the updated stats from since, yesterday
but you know this has been the offense that has
run the highest percentage of its plays have been design,
runs and so you, know there he is just going
for one hundred yards every single. Week it looks like
AND i think among the many things it's interesting About
Jackson smith And, jig but he's not this super physically imposing.

(02:35:52):
Guy he's not you, know like six' FOUR and i
MEAN Picture. Dk metcalp he's obviously an extreme, exact sample but,
you know he's kind of just an average, sized guy
and he doesn't have. BLAZING speed i think he ran
like in the whole high, four fours maybe even four
or five at his.

Speaker 9 (02:36:11):
Pro day something.

Speaker 10 (02:36:12):
Like that so not a guy.

Speaker 5 (02:36:14):
With, you know.

Speaker 12 (02:36:15):
Great measurables he just is this incredible wide receiver who,
gets OPEN and i think despite the underwhelming, forty time
he's showing that he can still he can still get
by defensive backs and he can take the. Top off
he's had basically a seems like a, huge play, you
know for a, long gain and at least one of
them in every single game, so far including a sixty

(02:36:36):
one year touchdown last week when he just ran right
by a. Defensive back AND so i think maybe that
speaks to kind of forty speed versus, play speed and how,
you know they're not necessarily the, same.

Speaker 4 (02:36:46):
Thing but at, any, rate yeah.

Speaker 12 (02:36:48):
He is he's on a short list of the best
receivers in football.

Speaker 5 (02:36:52):
For sure just curious that you brought up the twenty.
Three draft they had two first round Picks and jigba
was the other that was. At twenty he was the
first whide receiver taken in, that draft which in recent
years it's been very rare that no wide receiver has
been drafted By twenty do you recall what you thought
that night where he was the first wide receiver off
the board To.

Speaker 12 (02:37:11):
The, seahawks, YEAH well i, know that you, know internally,
you know within the organization at, the time there was.
SOME preference i think it was on the, coaching staff
so that would Have Been pete. CARROLL'S staff i think
there was some Preference Towards, zey.

Speaker 4 (02:37:26):
Flowers who, you know was one of the.

Speaker 12 (02:37:27):
OTHER receivers i don't know if he went to pick
after or he was right in that range of, YOU
know i think four receivers went in the first round and,
he was, you know SHORTLY after jsn. At twenty but
there was some preference in the organization because of, you
know he is a more classical, speed guy, you know big.
Play threat and again that goes back to the fact that,

(02:37:48):
You Know jackson Smith and jigba is showing that despite
not having, great speed he still can be that big
play threat guy and that's What the seahawks have needed
him to DO Without dk metcalf and, you know for
for the first couple of seasons of, His career JAYSON
was i don't want to, say only but he was
kind of mostly a. Slot guy and then, you know

(02:38:09):
when THEY Traded. Dk metcalf that meant that he was
going to have, to be, you know a bit more
of an, outside guy especially when they Brought In cooper
cupp who has been primarily a. Slot guy they tried
to sign or tried to They signed Mark Wes valdez
scantling in the hopes that, you know he could be that,
third receiver uh and to take the top. Off guy
but that did not. Work out he did not even
make the team at a, training camp, and uh, You

(02:38:31):
Know jackson Smith and jigbat has really fit into. That
role but that was, you know that was kind of
a question mark going into it going, you know when they,
drafted him or at least that was part of the
reason why some of the ORGANIZATION Wanted a flowers because
he's the guy with, you know the blazing forty time
and the history of big Plays At. Boston college but
So far jayson has been that guy.

Speaker 10 (02:38:51):
As.

Speaker 5 (02:38:51):
Well well he's definitely put his name into the competition
for who is The best ohio state wide receiver IN
the NFL.

Speaker 4 (02:38:57):
That cj stroud has thrown he passed to lead at.

Speaker 9 (02:39:00):
That.

Speaker 5 (02:39:00):
Unfortunately brady really appreciate your time And Enjoy seattle sports.

Speaker 4 (02:39:04):
This evening, All right well, excuse, Me.

Speaker 12 (02:39:08):
Wow i'm so excited my voice just.

Speaker 9 (02:39:09):
Cracked. There yeah, thanks guys appreciate.

Speaker 5 (02:39:11):

for us to finish things. Off here we will still
have more, for you because, of course we're followed by
another edition of The. Night cap cole will have that.
