Speaker 1 (00:02):
Yourself so real quickly going back to them Thompson thing
last night, I'd said this to Matt at the time.
Almostly if you agree with me, wex because they weren't
thrown out either.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
One of these guys.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
Don't you feel like that lends itself to the NBA
not suspending either one of them.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
Duh, Well, they definitely should have been thrown out. The
referees actually got it right from a basketball standpoint, I guess,
and there's nothing that further ship that should come from it.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
And they they they weren't you sure they were gonna
be thrown out when you initially saw it?
Speaker 3 (00:33):
Really is out the first segment, I'm like, why would
you throw them out? Jose Alvarado grabbed a guy and
Amen Thompson shoved him off.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
That's that's to me. That's all that happened to the face.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
He put his hands down to push the player off
of him. What's closest to him his face, which IS's fault.
His hand was on his back, his hand was near
his face. They're definitely one hundred percent. I'm not gonna
hear about it. There were no punch is thrown, So
I don't know what you'd want to throw them out.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
For I think and I know what you're talking about
with the punch is thrown thing, because a lot of
people were saying that and it was like there weren't
punches thrown, but there was hand to face contact, which
I feel like people and get the NBA. Yeah, but
that happens all the time in the NBA, And actually
(01:24):
it happened involving I believe him and Thompson and maybe
it was outbring Shing Gooon last season where a foul
was committed and because he made contact above the shoulders,
it was an automatic you know whatever, flagrant two flagrant
on I do.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
Think, I mean, maybe you disagree that's I think that's
totally different. I mean, you're talking about these two guys
are going up for a rebound or one guy shooting
the ball and you try to block it and you
hit him in the face, or you're the offensive foul
where you use your off arm and you hit him
above the shoulders. This is not hitting somebody above the
shoulders in the sense that that's actually a basketball play.
This was nothing to do with basket I mean, go
(02:00):
back if you'd like to go back and watch it
and we'll get some of you in for your thoughts
on it here at seven one three, two one two five,
seven ninety. I mean, I hoped for even more angles.
I was hoping there'd be some you know, cell phoned
video from Birmingham that somebody would post on the old
X platform or somewhere else.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
I just didn't see anything big. They don't have them there. Well,
maybe they're just not you.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
I mean, I know they catch a lot of squadron
games where their G League outfit, but I don't know
if they're their phones are out for all the offense
that's being displayed in the G League games, but the
television stuff from both the New Orleans side and the
Rockets side, there's only so much you could really see.
My standpoint was, Amn Thompson is on offense and he
(02:44):
did not have the basketball another teammate did. He was
out at the three point line on the baseline. He
was being defended by Jose Alvarado. Shot goes up. The
defensive player normally tries to keep the offensive player between
himself and the basket rebounding position, blocking out those types
of things. That is what happened and Alvarado's decision on
(03:05):
how to do that was to face guard Amen Thompson
and put both of his arms around him and hug
him like they had just gotten together for Christmas dinner
or something that's not basketball. That's why he was called
for a loose ball foul. He fouled him. That is
a foul. It's a terrible way to try to keep
your opponent from getting a rebound on the offensive glass.
(03:28):
And he got called for it. But he also never
let go. And as a men, Thompson is bigger, stronger
than him. He's pushing towards the basket and Alvarado, who's
now in a terrible position to stay on his feet
because essentially now the shorter players being run over, because
that's where he's chosen to play his defense. You know,
when you turn around and you actually box somebody out,
(03:48):
you get your legs spread wide, you get a nice bass,
you use your Charles Barkley butt and backside and back
to block somebody out. He didn't box him out that way.
He was in a terrible position. He was facing him.
So as soon as you get pushed, you fall over,
even if you're not trying to draw an offensive foul,
which he might have been but again from the video,
(04:08):
I can't tell you he was definitely trying to do that,
but I do know what happened. He got run over,
but he didn't let go. He was holding onto his legs,
he was holding onto his jersey. That's why it came untucked.
He was down on his back at this point, still
hasn't let go, and as a men, Thompson is trying
to I guess AI tyron lu him because there's no
other alternative, because he's trying to go somewhere else besides
(04:30):
on top of this player. Then he grabs his leg
again and still won't let go of his jersey, and
at this point a man is like, get off, let
go go away, please, I'm begging you. And then a
men is grabbed by multiple people and pulled away, kad
being at the forefront, and Alvarado is easily held off
(04:50):
because obviously he doesn't want to fight anyway, because he
is who he is.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
And then when a.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
Bunch of other people are in the way, he started drawing,
oh you know, I haven't even gotten to the other
part of it, and that's way off in the distance.
Because this has nothing to do with the event itself.
But That's what I saw, and didn't see any punches thrown.
It was definitely a physical altercation. I could understand double technicals.
I got to understand fouls on both players. Maybe I
don't understand a flagrant unless, like you said, maybe it
(05:17):
was dealing with the area of the contact from Aman Thompson.
But if both players are standing up, then nothing would
have happened. He would have shoved him in the chest
and he would be on his way and they would
have moved on. But the player was around his waist
and so shoving him with two hands, you're gonna hit
him in the back, You're gonna hit him in the head.
And that's what happened there. So that's at least how
(05:39):
I saw it. And it doesn't matter at all at
all to the Pelicans or Jose Alvarado. They stink he
does too. They don't matter in the NBA right now.
It matters to the Rockets. Luckily it's only in the preseason.
I mentioned this after the first preseason game because the Rockets,
I don't know that. I want to say they need
to be careful, but man, they got a roster full
(06:03):
of players other than KD probably that are just going
to keep piling up technical fouls and flagrant foul points
all season long. And this is without Dylan Brooks this year.
They've been hit with them in every game so far.
And I don't think there's any ending. I thought you
were gonna say when you started that sentence. I thought
you were gonna say, this team has a roster that
is loaded with capable defenders and none of them are defending.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
Yeah. No, that we'll get to that. It's a preseason.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
This is not the basketball portion of our conversation about
how the Rockets are managing to score a ton of
points yea, and in some cases giving up a few
too many. Let's see if we can get Richard's thoughts
in here on the program. Appreciate any and everybody joining
us here this afternoon. Seven one three two one two
five seven ninety. Welcome into the program. Richard, what's on
your mind this afternoon? Up?
Speaker 2 (06:52):
I guess we're just gonna take a break and sports
