Speaker 1 (00:00):
Our own Chris Gordy's been there throughout the week. You've
heard him help facilitate a handful of interviews over each
of our programs, The Sean Salisbury Show with Brian Lima
and Sean Salisbury, of course, the Matchama Show with Ross
and even our program yesterday with Hannah Goldie and Paige
van Zandt making a visit to the A team from
Our Table Live in New Orleans and now from Our
(00:20):
Table Live in New Orleans on tape, Chris Gordy was
able to catch up with Texans edge rusher Will Anderson Junior.
I actually caught up with him just before he made
his way out there earlier this week when he was
over at Academy with the Wheatly Girls flag football team
a little surprise shopping spree and learned he'd be in
New Orleans for the late stage of this week. So
kudos to Chris and everybody involved for finding some time
(00:43):
for us here on Sports Talk seven to ninety, Chris's
conversation with Will begins with Will's answer talking about that
very popular topic for the last several weeks, what are
the Texans need to do in order to reach the
Super Bowl?
Speaker 3 (00:57):
Not just watch it as a fan. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
Man, we just gonna to do up in job of executing,
man and making sure that we're being all on the
same page. And you know, it's really just somewhere us
the players making sure we're sacrificing our time and making
sure that we need to do what we need to do,
set ourselves ahead, and make sure we're going out there
competing to the highest level that we can.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
Yeah, it's it been. It had to be nice.
Speaker 4 (01:15):
I remember talking to you when you were at Alabama
because you used to talk about you got a lot
of double teams and it was hard. Teams were focusing
on you and you win, you know, defensive Rookie of
the Year and all that. It had to be nice, though,
bringing over a stud defensive end on that other side
to kind of take some of the attention away from you.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
Most definitely, Danil has been a great help man. He's
been a blessed to have on his team. Man, He's
taught me so much on and off the field. The
way he prepares, the way he's persistent, the way he's
so consistent with his game. It rubbed off on me
so much and I took so much fro him, just
like working my hands after practice, working my hands during
practice on the sideline, when the office is going, how
I'm taking care of my body, how I'm eating right.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
And he's just been unbelievable for me.
Speaker 4 (01:51):
What what did the defense change it all from last
year to this year?
Speaker 3 (01:54):
Was it?
Speaker 4 (01:54):
Did Demico kind of keep things the same or did
things change? Demiko is Demico. Demica is like, look.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
I know what this is, how the guys are doing it,
and we're gonna get it done. We just have to
continue to do us better. And that's what I love
about the Miko because his confidence is so high it
just bleeds on to us, man, and we adapt that confidence, man,
and he pushed us to be the best that we can.
Speaker 4 (02:13):
You know anything about the new oct Nick Keley coming in,
and he's a very highly thought of a lot of
pre stap motion, that kind of stuff.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
You know anything about him, not too much, but I
heard nothing but great things about him.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
I'm excited to work with him.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
I'm excited to see what he does with CJ and
their relationship and what he can do with the offense.
And I trust the decision, you know what I'm saying,
And I'm excited about this nature that we're going into.
Speaker 4 (02:32):
Some injuries happened throughout the year. Is that stress even
morning offseason? Man, you got to do everything right to
take care of your body because it's a grind, man,
And you miss some games, it's a big loss.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
You can't get those games back. Yeah, most definitely. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
I think it all starts in the offseason, just like
how you take care of a body and stuff like that,
and you know, you know, injuries are a party game,
you know what I'm saying. I think Coach Ryan's always
talking about like even though when we have these injuries,
like whoever's up after you? Like, how are you paying attention?
How are you getting the mental execution that you need
to do while you're not in And those are the
areas that we can improve on as well as too.
Speaker 4 (03:03):
How about sting taking heaven the year he has Old
pro Stingley.
Speaker 2 (03:08):
Pro Stingley, Man, Stingley is the best cornerback in this league, man,
and I play with Pascertain and I think very highly
of both of those guys. And both of those guys
are top. I'm not saying which one is one or two,
but both of those guys are top. And I love
Stingley to death. Man, He's he's the best. Man, He's
the best to do it. The way he can go
up and get the ball, the way he coverage people,
the way he come down and tackle. He doesn't say much, man,
(03:28):
he just lets his game speak for himself. And he's
going to continue to do to do great things in
his league.
Speaker 4 (03:33):
If you're walking down the hall at n RG and Nickosario,
you walk by his office and he goes, hey, well
come in here real quick. What a quick thought. We
got that first round pick. What do you what do
we need? What would you tell him?
Speaker 3 (03:43):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (03:43):
I'm not I'm not a gem, I'm not a coach,
I'm not nothing. I'm just like man. Whatever y'all think
needs Clay available right, whatever y'all need to help win
the team, I don't know. It don't matter to me.
Whoever y'all getting. I'm a love up on them. Yeah,
and make sure that they have whatever they need here.
Speaker 4 (03:58):
Man, what'd you make of for the year Joe Mixon had, Man,
they added such an added dynamic to the offense.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
So Joe was the energy on that offense. Man, the
way he led that offense with CJ.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
Man.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
The way he brung a spark to it. Man, it
was like none other man. But he does that to
the whole team. And we played against Joe last ye
when he was at the Bengals Man and I knew
how special he was and he brung that energy into
the building.
Speaker 3 (04:19):
It was good, the.
Speaker 4 (04:20):
Added dynamic going to the guys play your butts off
in Kansas City. But like the way the way the
game goes, do you almost go, it's that much more
important we get home field because we saw that crowd
rocking the Chargers game. I mean, it is a difference made.
So getting that best record they see matters.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
It does, it does. It's a lot of cool games.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
You gotta get on the road for man, But like
I said, we got to find a way to win.
Those are what the good teams are doing. They're finding
a way to win, and that's what we have to
continue to do.
Speaker 3 (04:46):
All Right.
Speaker 4 (04:46):
You've been in Houston in a couple of years. Give
me give me the best best food spot.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
Best food spot in Houston for breakfast, the Breakfast Club, Yep,
it's a good one. Barbecue I want to say, is
it just the truth.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
Is one of the barbecue places well there. You can't
go wrong any of them.
Speaker 2 (05:02):
It's both. Those are like some of the places that
I like a lot. What's it are you ribs? Sausage gives? Uh?
Speaker 3 (05:08):
Ribs? Just really really okay, it's pretty good. Yeah it is.
Speaker 4 (05:12):
It's not bad eating and you play in Alabama, they
got a good barbecue.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
They do well. I didn't even really eat the barbecue
that much in Alabama. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (05:18):
Well yeah, I mean you were you were busy shocking
days and having fun in college when you're not playing football.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
What are you doing fishing with my dad? And my dad,
me and him go fishing all the time. Man, you're
Houston or no, back in Georgia anywhere we go down
on the flod and go fishing. Man, And it's been great,
Like that's just my my peace of mim my comments.
Speaker 3 (05:35):
That's been really great. Fish bass. What do we capt
as large mouth bass? What do you use for a lure? Uh?
Speaker 2 (05:41):
Carolina rig and someone We use shad minnos, all those
different type of things. You get out there early, yep.
We got out there early, right when.
Speaker 4 (05:52):
The sun's come right when the sun come up, because
if you don't, it'd be too hot. Yeah, before we
let you go Lett, everybody know what you do, who
you're promoting here today.
Speaker 2 (05:59):
Yeah, I'm with just Peanut It right now, man. And
you know over a billion people eat wings on the
Super Bowl, So I'm teaming up with just to save
the salary right now. And one better way than the
eat the celery than with peanut butter.
Speaker 3 (06:09):
I love it. Well, it's great to catch up with me.
Speaker 4 (06:11):
