on my way to work, the girls said that as

(00:36):
of right now, they have to go in tomorrow. But
this weather is supposed to get in.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
It is cold. It's so cold.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
I didn't want to get out of bed this morning.

Speaker 3 (00:44):
So I know you feel me.

I know you do.

Speaker 3 (00:46):
We'll get through this cold day together. We can do this.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
Speaking of cold, what temperature do you say you're thermostack?

Speaker 3 (00:54):
Because oh, that's the debate in my house. We're going
to talk.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
About that at seven o'clock. Also on the way six
fet crazy things people are newing in the news, all
the things, and we got more updates on the weather. Obviously,
we're going to keep you up to date as much
as possible before this crazy stuff comes in overnight and
into tomorrow morning. But called the show eight three, three
five oh one, Bama is the number. Good morning, thank

(01:19):
you for being here. It's what the hell headlines?

Speaker 4 (01:23):
What the hell are you talking about?

Speaker 2 (01:25):
On The Alabama Show, a man said he was abducted
by aliens while he was carjacking in the nude, Why
sir you like?

Speaker 3 (01:35):
He was trying to steal a car and he was naked.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
The owner came out and tried to stop the guy,
and the guy trying to break into the car, turned
a knife on him and demanded the keys to the car,
and so the victim called the cops. The deputies arrived,
and the naked man in the driveway of the house
said he was abducted by aliens. I have no idea
what's going on. All I do know is this happened
in Florida.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
Why You're Super Easy Trivia with the y Alabama Show.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
Kristin, Good morning. I know you're on your way to
work right now. Where do you work? What do you do?
I'm a teacher? Are you are you like shocked that
you got through the radio? Did I just put you
in brain freeze?

Speaker 1 (02:18):
Yes?

Speaker 3 (02:18):
Kristin, where are your teacher?

Speaker 2 (02:20):
Do you want to say or would you prefer not
to so people don't hear you at school. Okay, well,
this will help you if you're a teacher and super
easy trivia. Are you trying to win tickets to Matt Rife? Yes, girl,
I got you. I'm just curious what grade do you teach?

Speaker 3 (02:36):
Heard?

Speaker 2 (02:37):
Oh girl, bless you.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
I know that.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
What's on the docket to learn today?

Speaker 3 (02:43):
A little bit of everything? Is everybody.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
I'm sure everybody's just like, let's just get through today
so we can all stay at home tomorrow.

Speaker 4 (02:51):
Be at home tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
Okay, Well, Kristen, all of the theme today is cold things,
since it's so cold outside. I'll ask the questions, you
give the answers. Are you ready? Yeah, all right, Kristin.
What three flavors of ice cream are in Neapolitan.

Speaker 3 (03:08):
Chocolate, shlberry, vanilla, Chocolate, shelberry and vanilla would be correct?

Speaker 2 (03:13):
Next question, what is the name of the princess in
Disney's Frozen Elka Elsa? Elsa would be correct? Also Anna
is correct. And last question for the win for these
tickets to Matt Rife June twenty second at the new
Birmingham Amphitheater, Kristen, what is the sport played on ice

(03:35):
where players hit a puck hockey.

Speaker 3 (03:38):
Hockey would be right, Kristin Roger, thank you, I knew
you would win.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
Congratulations You're going to see Matt Rife in June. Oh
that's awesome.

Speaker 5 (03:54):
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (03:55):
It's three things you need to know with the Elee.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
Okay, So here's what we know abo about the weather
so far.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
We are expecting a wintery mix of snow Friday morning,
Tomorrow morning through Saturday. The loads and parts of Alabama
are literally going to be in the teens.

Speaker 3 (04:12):
The mix of snow.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
Sleet and freezing rain is going to start on the
west of Alabama around two am, and you know, the
weather moves west to east, so it'll be.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
Rolling through real quick.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
And it's still going to be cold and frozen into
Saturday morning. So if you can stay off the roads,
stay home tomorrow, be safe.

Speaker 3 (04:28):
Just it's not worth it.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
It's not worth it. Stay home. There's officially an app
for everything. You know, when you go to the drug store,
sometimes there's certain stuff behind a lock and you have
to go find an employee to get it to you.
Right now, CVS is rolling out a new app that
gives trustworthy customers the power to unlock it themselves, and

(04:50):
Walmart's also looking into doing the same thing, although I
don't know how they pick who's trustworthy or not.

Speaker 3 (04:55):
And I feel like this is there's going to be
some people that are going to.

Speaker 2 (04:58):
Steal some stuff doing but anyway, it'll make shopping a
little easier if you're trust worthy. And here is how
to stay safe on the roads if you have to drive.
The experts also say stay off the roads, but if
you do, if you have a four wheel drive, you
have a better chance of being on the road. The
best cars are going to be jeeps in four by
four trucks. If you do have to drive any lose

(05:20):
control over your car on ice, take your foot off
the gas, put it on the brake, but don't mash
the brake. Look and steer in the direction that you
want to go, so that when you do get control
over your car again and you get traction, you're going
to be going in the direction that you want to go. Also,
keep an emergency kit in your car so that if
you get stranded, you can get an emergency kit at

(05:41):
an auto parts store. A first aid kit's good flashlights, gloves, hats, scarfs,
zip ties, and make sure your gas tank is at
least half full, so that if you do get stranded somewhere,
you can leave your car running and stay warm a
little bit longer if you have to wait for help.
That's three things you need to know. More at the

(06:01):
Alabama Show dot com. What the hell headlines are on
the way.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
Next you were listening to the Alabama Show on demand.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
Every time you live with somebody, there's one fight that
I think everybody in the house has And I got
to talk about the fight that man, Steak Daddy, my
boyfriend are having, Like we might break.

Speaker 4 (06:18):
Up over this bathroom rules.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
No, it's not bath it's the thermostat.

Speaker 3 (06:25):
He keeps it at seventy two in the freaking house.

Speaker 4 (06:29):
I'd be out of there, like emotionally, physically, dude, I
would be out.

Speaker 2 (06:34):
I am so and called to show what do you
put your thermostat at eight three three five oh one, Bama?
And literally there was an email that came out from
the power company earlier this week to keep your power
bill lower because of the cold weather that we're having,
because your house has to work harder to keep it warm,
and it said keep it at sixty eight, which is
what I love. What do you keep your thermostat.

Speaker 4 (06:54):
At sixty seven or sixty eight.

Speaker 3 (06:57):
Sixty eight perfect temperature. Oh my god.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
We fight like I will put it at sixty eight
when I leave for work in the morning, and I'll
get home from work and he's gone for his job.
He leaves after me, and the house will be at
seventy and I walk in or seventy two, and it's
like a sauna.

Speaker 4 (07:14):
I like, those are fighting degrees, it is.

Speaker 2 (07:18):
And this is the argument I tell him. I'm like,
if you're cold. He's like, I'm freezing. You're broken. There's
something wrong with your temperature gauge. I'm like, no, there's
something wrong with you, old man. You can put on
more clothes when you're hot. You cannot take off more clothes.

Speaker 4 (07:35):
Yeah, you can take off to a certain degree before it's.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
Wrong and there's nothing better. Do you sleep like this?
Do you like to go to bed cold, bundled up
in a bunch of blankets?

Speaker 4 (07:45):
Literally, I open my window at night to sleep at
twenty degree weather and then have a fan on as well.

Speaker 2 (07:51):
Okay, you're a psychopath for that.

Speaker 3 (07:53):
That's a little check to bundle up. Well, wait till
you move in with your girlfriend. If y'all ever get married,
ready to move in together? If she's does she run cold?

Speaker 4 (08:03):
She loves cold weather?

Speaker 2 (08:04):
Two, I say, you're good. Call the show. Is this
something that happens at your house? What temperature do you
set your thermostat at?

Speaker 3 (08:12):
Eight three three five oh one Bama.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
That's eight three three five oh one two two six
two The.

Speaker 1 (08:17):
Alabama Show on demand free on the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (08:21):
Eight three three five oh one Bama is the number
to call the show, or you can text text the
keyword Alabama and your message to three zero three eight two.
Or join TikTok Live. I'm live on TikTok right now.
You can see the behind the scenes. Go follow Alabama Radio. Mary,
good morning. What do you set your temperature out? What's
your thermostat set out today?

Speaker 5 (08:41):
Well, so if my husband's home, it's a lot higher.
If I'm home, I would like to turn it down
to sixty eight, and at night I turn it down
to sixty six.

Speaker 2 (08:53):
Yet, girl, yeah, I turn it down to sixty seven.
This morning when I left, when my boyfriend was asleep,
I was like, it's going down to sixty seven. I'm
not coming home to an eighty degree house.

Speaker 6 (09:03):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (09:04):
So what does your husband say that.

Speaker 5 (09:08):
Seventy seventy one. But and if it gets too warm
or too dry, I'll go down and I'll go and
turn it back down.

Speaker 2 (09:18):
That is a fight.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
That is a fight, Mary.

Speaker 5 (09:21):
It's always been that way, Carl. Yeah, he loves heat,
he loves humidity and all that stuff.

Speaker 3 (09:28):
I'd be telling him to get a heated blanket.

Speaker 5 (09:30):
Yep, well we have those.

Speaker 2 (09:33):
Mary.

Speaker 3 (09:33):
You are awesome.

Speaker 2 (09:34):
Thank you for calling.

Speaker 5 (09:35):
Thank you have a great day.

Speaker 2 (09:37):
By the way, if you have this argument at home
and somebody in your house wants the thermostat set way
too hot, the power company recommends that you said it
at sixty eight degrees, so it won't run the power
bill up and it won't like overwork your heater system.
So that's your argument. Eight three three five Oho one,
Bama is the number to call the show.

Speaker 3 (09:57):
Kelly, good morning. What's your thermostat set at?

Speaker 6 (10:01):
I'm not exactly sure what it's said at, to be
honest with you, I know that sounds weird, but we
have space heaters in the house.

Speaker 3 (10:09):
Yeah, I would be he's in Yeah, he can take
the space heat quickly. Yes, yeah. See do you like
to be hot or cold?

Speaker 6 (10:18):
I prefer it cooler. See yeah, because I'm you know,
of a certain age with women, and he is older.
He's he's older and diabetics, so he gets colder quicker.

Speaker 2 (10:32):
Oh yeah, but see I like and I like to
be cold. I would rather be cold and bundled up
under a blanket than sweating and feeling like I'm dying.

Speaker 6 (10:40):
Yep. And we have we sleep with different blankets on
the bed. I have a thinner one. He has basically
almost double up the comforter on top of him.

Speaker 2 (10:49):
Absolutely, Kelly, thank you for colling.

Speaker 7 (10:51):
You got it.

Speaker 6 (10:52):
Have a good one.

Speaker 1 (10:53):
It's three things you need.

Speaker 6 (10:54):
To know.

Speaker 3 (10:56):
Now.

Speaker 2 (10:57):
Chilton County is also opening up warming shelter. The county's
main warming shelter is in Clanton at the Old Seniors
Connection Center at three oh four Park Plaza. It's open
now through Saturday. Don't forget the Jimmy Hale Mission is
also open as a warming center in Birmingham. They're all
over the state of Alabama. So if you want to
keep up to date, WBrC dot com for the warming

(11:20):
shelter openings.

Speaker 3 (11:22):
Congratulations to do Alipa.

Speaker 2 (11:24):
Do Aliva got engaged. She hasn't confirmed it, but we
all saw she's got a big old diamond ring on
her engagement finger.

Speaker 3 (11:32):
The Daily Mail says it's eighteen carrots, which is huge.

Speaker 2 (11:35):
So it appears that she got engaged over the holidays.
To our English actor and model boyfriend, Callum Turner, congratulations,
do a lipa. I'm happy for her. I think that's great.

Speaker 3 (11:45):
Glitter pickles are now a thing.

Speaker 2 (11:48):
They're called glickles. It's this. It's trending on TikTok right now.

Speaker 3 (11:52):
Somebody. You can put edible glitter.

Speaker 2 (11:56):
In your jar pickles and it makes your pickles. And
there's a video on TikTok that has over ten million
views of glitter pickles. So if you like pickles and
you want them to look fancy, go to the store
and buy edible glitter and just put it in your
drawer of pickles and shake it up. That actually sounds
like it would be fun for the kids. So glickles,

(12:16):
it's the thing. That's three things you need to know
more at the Alabama Show dot com.

Speaker 1 (12:23):
Here's what's coming up next on the Alabama Show.

Speaker 2 (12:26):
What's your good news? What are you celebrating? Maybe it's
just that you don't have to go to work or
school tomorrow because of the weather. That's worth a airhorn.
And if you call the show, I'll.

Speaker 3 (12:35):
Give you the.

Speaker 2 (12:38):
Eight three three five oh one Bama. Is the number
eight three three five oh one two two six two.

Speaker 1 (12:43):
You're listening to the Alabama Show on demand.

Speaker 2 (12:46):
If you have good news you want to share, call
the show eight three three five oh one Bama. That's
eight three three five oh one two two six two. Lilian,

Speaker 3 (13:05):
Okay, so where's your apartment?

Speaker 6 (13:08):
Like?

Speaker 2 (13:08):
Tell me all about it. What's your favorite thing about
the apartment? Are you going to live by yourself? Have roommates?

Speaker 3 (13:13):
I have so many questions.

Speaker 2 (13:14):
I'm sorry, I want to live by myself.

Speaker 3 (13:16):
Yes, girl.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
Are you so excited to leave the lights on all
night and turn the radio up loud and.

Speaker 3 (13:25):
Eating the eating the bathroom if you want to?

Speaker 2 (13:28):
Oh my gosh, she is. I'm so excited.

Speaker 3 (13:30):
What's the first thing you're gonna do when you move in?

Speaker 5 (13:34):
Just organize everything?

Speaker 3 (13:36):

(13:57):

Speaker 2 (14:03):
Call me back in the month when you realize how
expensive tilet paper, toothpaste and groceries are, and we'll just
we'll give you emotional support.

Speaker 1 (14:12):
If you're listening to The Alabama Show on demand.

Speaker 2 (14:15):
We'll give weather updates constantly on The Alabama Show today
and then I'll also watch our social media is throughout
the night and tomorrow morning. But nobody, I think does
it better than an actual media herologist. That's why we
got ahold of our buddy Mickey Ferguson from our partners
at WBrC. Mickey, good morning. What is going on with

(14:36):
this crazy winter weather?

Speaker 7 (14:39):
Well, here's the deal. There is the winter storm watch.
You know, when we talk about, for example, tornado watches
and tornado warnings. A watch means conditions are favorable. For example,
for a tornado. A tornado warning means that tornado has
been sighted right so, right now, we're under a winter
storm watch. We don't have winter weather in our area
as far as pre sip is concerned. Certainly cold enough,

(15:00):
but as a winter storm watch. Once this stuff starts falling,
we'll switch that over to winter storm warning. But we're
seeing more and more consistency in our forecast models. There
are several models that we look at all year long.
It's not just for this event, but for any event,
and we're seeing more and more consistency with frozen pre
sip hitting our area. Some are indications of snow, but

(15:24):
we're starting to see a line of freezing rain. What
is freezing rain, well rain, and how's that opposed to sleep?
Sleet is what falls frozen and hits the ground. Freezing
rain can be an issue because the ground is a
thermal mast that holds on. It's slower to like if

(15:44):
you have a log cabin or a stone building. That's
called thermal mass. People in the building industry are familiar
with this. It holds on and retains heat or cool air,
and it's harder to cool that down or warm it up.
The ground is eight thermal mass, and these overnight lows
are causing the surface temperatures The ground to hold onto

(16:06):
cold air. Now, if temperatures are below freezing, which we
are forecasting, that rain hits the ground and freezes on contact,
and that could be a major issue as far as
travel is concerned. The snow that's going to be fun.
The freezing rain that's more of an issue. And we're

(16:28):
starting to see some indications that we could get freezing
rain in our area.

Speaker 2 (16:32):
When you go home, what's the first thing that you're
doing to prep for all this stuff at your house?
Is it your pipes? Like, what is it?

Speaker 7 (16:38):
Well, it's for these overnight lows dropping tonight, for example,
probably bottom out close to twenty degrees nineteen degrees, it's
probably a good idea to just let them drip. You
may not have a problem if you and if you
have those hose pipes and things like that, you can
go to these outdoor stores, you know, those home depots
or lows or something like that, grab some of those

(17:00):
and cover up your pipes. And if you can, if
you have like a rental house or something like that,
go and turn the water off and drain those pipes
and cover it up. So that's a good idea. If
and you might want to cause the faucet to just
be turned on just a little bit, let it drip,
get some water flow, because if that water's moving, it's

(17:22):
less likely to freeze if it's just stagnant.

Speaker 2 (17:25):
Now, I know it's always subject to change, but right now,
if you're looking at the models and everything that's coming
in right now, what do you think is the worst
day of it and when do you think we will
be out of it?

Speaker 7 (17:36):
Well, here's the deal. Friday is really the day when
we're going to see the preset falling all throughout the
day on Friday. Could begin late Thursday nine, but it's
really Friday where we see most of that falling. It
could change over to cold rain, but again we have
the ground that could hold on to freezing temperatures and
that could cause some of this rain to freeze when

(17:59):
it makes contact with the surface. Now we could get
anywhere from one to up to four inches of snow,
especially in our northern counties. The further north you live,
the more snow you're going to see. But the freezing
rain could be an issue even going into Saturday morning
after the pre sip has ended. So this is residual

(18:22):
moisture that has fallen, So even going into Saturday morning,
we could still see significant travel related issue.

Speaker 3 (18:30):
Micky, thank you, Thank.

Speaker 2 (18:31):
You for keeping all of us safe and keeping us
up to date on all the crazy weather that comes
in where we live. We really were a big fan
and we love you on the show.

Speaker 7 (18:39):
Well, thank you very much.

Speaker 1 (18:41):
I'll Stay Warm The Alabama Show on demand free on
the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (18:46):
I think my temperature gauge on my car said it
was twenty three degrees this morning.

Speaker 3 (18:50):
When I left to go to work, and it's just going.

Speaker 2 (18:53):
To get colder and colder, especially every night tonight through
tomorrow and then through to Saturday. We're going to have
the freezing rain, sleet and snow. So there are some
signs of hypothermia to look out for, and some of
the warning signs to look for are shivering, exhaustion, fumbling,
and memory loss. If you just notice somebody seems a

(19:17):
little off, it may be hypothermia. In light cases, you
can get somebody inside that's dry and warm and their
temperature will regulate back to normal.

Speaker 3 (19:27):
But if it's more serious, seek.

Speaker 2 (19:29):
Medical attention immediately, call nine to one one.

Speaker 3 (19:33):
For them if you need to.

Speaker 2 (19:35):
But that's just one of the things to look out
for obviously, if you can get inside, get inside. There's
warming stations opening up all over the state of Alabama,
and be safe. If you don't have to leave, I
would not stay home. All the experts are saying stay home.
Assume there's going to be ice on the roads everywhere.
So we'll be doing the show from home tomorrow, and

(19:55):
be safe. Obviously, you can always get more at WBrC
dot com.

Speaker 1 (20:00):
You are listening to the Alabama Show on demand.

Speaker 2 (20:03):

the Alabama Show on social media. We'll probably all be
