Friday: A MARVELous Update

Project Marvel takes a major step as the city & the Spurs could be close to an agreement.

I did not have a Project Marvel story on my
list of topics today, which is the first time in
a couple of weeks. But you'll have to learn to
pivot from time to time because we have some news
that Michael just found coming across the web, and apparently
the city and the Spurs are close to language on

what may get voted on soon.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Yes, sir, and this is according to as Chris dule
touts him the great Don Harris, he has tweeted out
at saying breaking. Multiple sources tell me that after days
of negotiation, the city, County and the Spurs have reached
an agreement on a turn sheet on a new downtown arena.
City Manager Eric Walsh will aim to present to council

for approval by the end of the month. So there
we go progression for Project Marvel.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
So if that gets approved by the end of the month,
that would be about ninety to ninety three days or so,
no less than that, about sixty four days before we
would vote on it, because you have September October, in
the first four or five days of November. And again
here's the thing though, that I'm gonna I'm going to

continue to reiterate I'm going to probably post on all
the socials that I can and that we the message
has to be taught by everyone, and I think even
the mayor needs to understand this too. And even if
you have a hint that you're against it for some reason,
explain to me the reason why you don't want to
do this. And you have every right to vote no

for whatever reason, but don't tell me it's going to
because you don't want to pay more tax when you're
not going to pay tax unless you rent a roomor
or you elease a carr if you are rent a
car to a car rental place. So don't tell me
you're If you want to say, well, I don't want
billionaires in million there is to not pay their own way. Okay,

that's a valid reason if that's what you think for
not doing it. But then I want you to go
around and ask your neighbors and your friends and your family, Hey,
do you think the Spurs are important to this community?
And you might find out that somebody actually works forty
one nights a year at the Spurs games and makes
a pretty good wage doing it as a server or
as a parking lot attendant or whatever they may do,

and that they count on those dates to create additional
revenue for their families, or to be able to go
on a vacation, or to make an extra house or
car payment every day, or to be able to live
the lifestyle that they have. So make sure that the
reason that you vote no, or for that matter, yes,
is a valid reason. That I just don't automatically say no, no, no.

And I've seen so much of this on Facebook and
Twitter recently that they're voting no just because I don't
want to pay taxes, And I'm like, well, do you
rent a car?

No?

Speaker 1 (02:53):
Do you stay in hotel room?

Speaker 2 (02:54):
No?

Speaker 1 (02:55):
Well, why are you still voting for it? Well, I'll
have to pay taxes. No, you won't. Somebody else will.
Somebody that's not you will be paying the tax and
and uh we as we talk to people about this
into September and October, and we'll definitely be doing that.
That's the message I want is can we please educate
them as to how much this is actually going to
