Speaker 1 (00:04):
Thanks again for all of y'all riding along with us
on this Friday evening before we start a much anticipated
weekend full of meaningful Spurs basketball in early December thanks
to the Emirates NBA Cup. If you missed, if you
missed any of the first hour, we talked a lot
of Spurs, a lot of of course, the news of
(00:27):
the day, Wemby is back. Barring any setback between now
and tomorrow night, he will be back for that matchup
against what is increasingly becoming the hated Oklahoma City Thunder.
As we talked about in the first hour, the ESPN's
twenty five Under twenty five rankings basically lays out the
(00:49):
groundwork for a Thunder Spurs, Rockets battle for the West
for the next decade. So, of course, as always, we'll
have the podcast out short after the show today. We're
only going to six thirty tonight. Also remember that, so
where do we leave it off?
Speaker 2 (01:07):
The we were talking about Logan Wilson playing time and
if Trayvon Diggs should be playing at all.
Speaker 1 (01:13):
Okay, and you're hypothetical.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
My hypothetical was and this is just like if you
had to pick one, so you and I have both
been very hard on Kenneth Murray because while the athleticism
is obviously there, he takes a lot of bad angles
and is sometimes just out of play completely.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
And it's not just us. PFF rankings have him the
ninety second middle linebacker out of ninety five.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
Oh, okay, I didn't realize it was that bad.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
It is that bad. Okay, that's all linebackers in general,
ninety second out of ninety five.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
L's that's that's that's really bad because there's you only
have three starting linebackers and the thirty two teams, so
he's one of the four worst.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
Anyway, would you rather have? That's the math.
Speaker 2 (01:54):
Would you rather have Kenneth Murray on the field still
with Trevon Diggs returning to the lineup, or keep Travon
Diggs inactive but with Logan Wilson taking over the snaps
and middle linebacker.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
I would suggest in your hypothetical the second scenario potentially
is actually what we see on Sunday night against the Vikings.
I despite Trayvon Diggs declaring himself ready to contribute and
seemingly suggesting that he is back on the same page
(02:28):
as the rest of his not only teammates, but coaching staff.
I would still be surprised if Diggs is active Sunday night.
But on the other side of that, I would be
equally surprised if Kenneth Murray Junior gets more snaps than
Logan Wilson does on Sunday Night. So since the trade deadline,
(02:48):
since Wilson came over from the Bengals, what now five
weeks ago, going on five weeks. This will be the
fifth week, fifth game.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
This would be the fifth game, third week, because remember
two those game happened in the same week.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
Oh god, yeah it was. They've had three games and
twelve days in this stretch. Yeah, So the snap counts
since Wilson has joined the Cowboys, He's averaging twenty eight
and a half snaps a game to Kenneth Murray's thirty
four snaps a game. Yeah, it's too much. This is
definitely too much. But we've seen that gap start to decrease.
(03:26):
We've seen it become more of a closer to an
even split when it comes to snap count. There was
a I was reading an article earlier today from the
Dallas Morning News talking about how, you know, seemingly this
week for the first time, the way they've practiced, it
seems like Logan Wilson, whether he start he's the starting
(03:49):
middle linebacker Sunday night, that's still to be determined, but
it seems like he is on pace to get more
snaps than Kenneth Murray in this game. So back to
your hypothetical, Yeah, I think the second scenario is what
we see. I think we see Diggs inactive.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
And I asked you what you would want, and that's
where I still think what Diggs can bring to this
defense just based on his his.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
His ability to create turnovers.
Speaker 1 (04:20):
Yeah, and and I think it's it's less it's more
about comparing what he is compared to the rest of
the secondary group. Like Logan Wilson is definitely an improvement
over Kenneth Murray Junior. But I think Diggs in the
lineup is more of an improvement to anyone to Reddy
(04:40):
Stewart being in the lineup, because that's what the question becomes,
is is there more benefit to having him active despite
all of the you know, drama he's put the team,
the organization through, and despite the writing on the wall
that suggests he's gone from the organization in a matter
(05:00):
of months. I would think that the risk reward there
is more important to have him in the lineup, and
in your scenario still have Kenneth Murray Junior on the field,
But that it's not an easy decision because as I said,
that is there's only three linebackers in the entire league
(05:22):
this year that have been worse statistically than Kenneth Murray Junior.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
Right, And and part of it is not it's not
all on Kenneth Murray Parvard. Also is that they were
led along on Shamar James, who the fifth round rookie
who looks solid in some games.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
Also an incredibly young Verriky.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
You also have someone like de Marvin Overshown, who's similar
to Diggs, has an injury tag attached to his name.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
So good news on Overshown. Shody in the press conference
earlier today over to Marvian Overshown for the first time
since coming back from injury, will not have any pitch
count limitations. Okay, he is a for the first time,
they have cleared him as fully back to whatever his
(06:03):
normal is with the injury hist Right, But.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
We also know that even though you're right like the
majority of teams will start three linebackers, the Cowboys, And
I know you know this. The Cowboys love to use
a lot of nickel personnel. They love to use five
defensive backs and once a while you'll see three linebackers
out there. But most of the time that linebacker honestly
is playing in the slot. He's playing over a tight
end or something like that. So like they always like,
they don't really like to have more than six guys
(06:28):
in the box that they can help it. And well,
part of that's just even Flu's system. Part of it
also is that they have a bunch of guys not
named Logan Wilson who are outside linebackers. These guys are
Wills and Sam's who play coverage and they play in space,
and you're asking him play more on the inside. And
so that's also an issue of being out a position.
So parv it, yes, is that Kenneth Murray does feel
(06:48):
out a position.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
PARV.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
It also might be that his instincts might not be there.
There's all kinds of aspects into that, But to continue
with it, and it was my point to continue with
it regardless of whose fault it is.
Speaker 1 (06:59):
I think is co what you mautpractice? Yeah, I mean,
I completely agree. You can't argue with the results through
thirteen games now, it's hard to see how it's not
the definition of insanity to continue that. Well, before we
get too much further behind it, we'll save our NFL
Week fifteen LOOKSI for the next segment. We're getting to
(07:22):
the point of the season where some regular season games
are about to be elimination games for some of the
teams across the league.
