I'm Andy Everett. Thank you so much for being a
part of the program today along with our audio disseminator
Shane Carter and producer Michael Bartlett.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
Welcome everyone to the show.

Speaker 1 (00:53):
You would not believe, folks, that about a year and
a half ago, there was a very little attention that
Mike bart paid to golf at all, and now he's
cheering on Scotty Scheffler and.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
Hoping that that Rory Shanks.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
Or misses every shot possible as if he's the biggest
diehard golf in of all time.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
I have addicted you to watching golf, I am, I am.
It is very addicting now. I enjoy watching it, Like
I tell.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
You, I look forward to on Thursdays, coming in and
depending on who's where it's at for one, you know,
sitting here, turn it on and then get to criticize.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
And just as I said that, Scotty just overcut one
into the right rough, that's.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
All right, he's fine.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
Yeah, Scotty's five out of the lead. Robert McIntyre playing great.
So we'll talk about golf later in the show. The
big news of the day, however, centers around Michigan football
and the NCAA levied a financial hammer on them. We're
going to talk more in detail on this in the
next segment coming up. I like the fact that they

(02:01):
did not vacate any wins or the national Championship. Yes,
I realized those players got information from coaches that you
could say they were cheating, and so that may be
something that you have to, you know, forgive or or forget.
But here's the way I look at it. They still
played the game and by the and I think it

(02:21):
was only a was it a couple of teams in
the Big Ten that Sallions was over scouting, whatever it was.
When you take away teams wins, or vacate a championship,
or take away the Heisman trophy, the player that finished
second doesn't want it. The team that finished second's not interested.
They know they got beat by the guys on the
on the field. It's like, and this is a golf thing,

(02:44):
but back in nineteen sixty seven, Roberto du Vi Senzo
won the Masters, but signed for an incorrect scorecard, so
he was disqualified, and they gave it to Bob Golby,
And Bob Golby didn't want the green jacket.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
He didn't want the trophy. I didn't win it. He did.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
And just because whoever was marketing a scorecard made an
error and he didn't catch it, he's going to not
win the tournament. Players know when they win, and they
they want to take credit for their wins, but they
don't want wins that are not earned and not justified,
and so giving the Heisman to somebody else or taking

(03:20):
it away from someone else, or showing on some picture
that it's been vacated. That doesn't really do much for
the for the teams that finished second. So I'm okay
with not vacating wins. This will cost Michigan thirty five
million dollars and it will illustrate a little bit more
in the net in the next segment. This doesn't really
hurt Michigan as it does other teams, but I think

(03:43):
maybe it's an a turrent for other teams. If you
were to say take let's say Northwestern that's in the
Big ten, or let's say you were to take what's that, Well,
Iowa is a big is a pretty good has a
pretty good financial base, not Michigan space, but Northwestern does

(04:05):
not have a big base. The Rutgers, Yeah, Rutgers has
probably got a few boosters, but not a lot. A
school like that, or certainly an American Conference school or
a us A Conference USA school, if they were hit
with a fifty fifty thousand dollars fine plus ten percent
of the athletic or twenty percent of the football budget,

(04:28):
they'd shut down the program.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
It'd be over.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
Michigan's got enough people that can just write a check
and move on. And I was reading today where listening
today where there's a lot of people that are concerned.
I wonder if the golf coach and the volleyball coach
at Michigan are going, well, there goes our travel budget.
I guess we're going to be on a bus instead
of instead of a plane, or a plane instead of
a private plane. But likely not because if you ask,

(04:53):
let's say we get ten or fifteen Michigan boosters and
get them in a room and say, hey, we won
this game, we won that game, and uh oh, by
the way, we got caught with our hand in the
cookie jar, and now we're going to be hit with
a fine that's going to cost us about thirty five million.
It would take about five seconds for all of them
to reach on their phone and zell the money to

(05:13):
whoever they needed to get to make out for that
thirty five million. I don't think Michigan's going to lose
a lot of sleep over this. They are going to appeal,
just because that's what you do, but I don't know
that that's going to do much good.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
And but I do think this is a.

Speaker 1 (05:27):
Deterrent for smaller schools down the road, which is what
the I mean. The NCAA is not gonna let Michigan
not play in the postseason.

Speaker 2 (05:33):
It makes two bid people too much money.

Speaker 3 (05:35):
Yeah, well, I mean it wasn't just like it was,
you know, two or three schools. It was thirteen thirteen
future fewonus opponents. Yeah, and again the blatancy of yeah,
we know we cheated. Yeah, we admit that we cheated,
but we don't care.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
And now there and we have enough money that we
can withstand any fine.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
So I mean, to me, I understand the whole notion
of because, like you just said when we were talking
about it earlier, is the the the death penalty days
of the SMU.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
That's not happening anymore. Ever, again, unless it's.

Speaker 1 (06:17):
A non Power five school, if it's from the I
don't think death penalty is on the table for anyone.
And I don't think t taking TV away or taking revenue.
I mean, like when they go to the postseason, they're
not going to get to keep their postseason revenue, which
will be distributed amongst other things. I would assume, but
that that's a big deal to most schools, is that
they when you go to the CFP, for example, you

(06:39):
get five million a game, Well, you share that with
everybody else. In your league, but everybody else in your
league is also sharing. So like last year you had
you had Ohio State and whoever else from the Penn
State was in there. Oregon was in there, so they
each get two shares and then everybody else gets a share.
So Ohio State was getting part of of Oregon share,

(07:02):
and Oregon was getting part of Ohio State share, and
the schools that didn't make the CFP were making it
in the ball games. There's all kinds of revenue sharing
that goes along in those conferences.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
So we'll get into more of this.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
I just think the money is too great to make
sure that there's some teams that don't get to participate.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
What are you laughing about? Roy left to putt short?
All right?

Speaker 1 (07:24):
Brian Flores has been told by the courts that he
can proceed with his trial against the NFL, claiming that
there is intent racism in the NFL when it comes
to hiring coaches. We'll tell you what we know about that.
There is a new list out there. This was from ESPN, Right, Yahoo, Yahoo,
Pat this one. Yahoo has come up with the all

(07:47):
time All American Team. It's the jp YEA, the A,
the AP All American team for the last hundred years.
Who are the best at each of those positions that
won all American status over the last hundred years. We'll
tell you who the quarterbacks are in some of the
big positions and some of the names that are either

(08:08):
not on there or should they not be on there
in a higher order, so we'll get to we'll tell
you who those those guys are. Some you'll like, some
you may have an issue with. The Spurs are going
to be on TV this year, national TV twenty two times.
A lot of those national games you can still see
the local broadcast with is it.

Speaker 3 (08:29):
It'll be Ken's fives and CW thirty five And what
are we now, we're not Bally's fan dual FanDuel.

Speaker 1 (08:39):
Yeah, most of most of the games are on fandual
and CW and cans have twenty games or fifteen games
or so. And the reason why they don't release that
they when the schedule was released yesterday, it shows which
games are going to be on national TV, the NBC
games and the ABC ESPN games are the ABC games will.

Speaker 2 (08:58):
Likely be.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
No local TV, but for most of the rest of
him you'll still get local TV. But we'll talk about
the Spurs being on TV twenty two times. That's basically
a fourth of the season where the nation is going
to get to see their games. We mentioned the BMW
Championship in Robert McIntyre shot sixty four.

Speaker 2 (09:16):
Today he's got a five shot lead.

Speaker 1 (09:18):
He's fourteen hunder par pat Riley is going to get
a statue out in front of the Crypto dot Com
arena to commemorate his days as a Los Angeles Laker.
When I tell you who the others are, the question
is is a who's next? And who is Riley amongst

(09:38):
the greatness of the Lakers. I guess he was as
the coach in the eighties, but we'll get into that.
Years ago, in the Larry Kocher days, they had a player,
a defensive back by the name of Darien Starling.

Speaker 2 (09:49):
I remember him well.

Speaker 1 (09:50):
He's now a freelance writer for the Sporting News and
he has written an article that talks about how UTSA
can make its way to American com French Championship status.
I don't disagree with anything he says. I think it's
all out there, and by the way, today it is.
Now it's been announced so that we can tell you
that the Jeff Trailer radio Show is going to have

(10:13):
a new home.

Speaker 2 (10:14):
Your house. I don't have enough room for everybody to
come Trailer Ranch. We can part.

Speaker 1 (10:20):
We could do it in the parking lot out here
and make the just bring Jeff in the studio, make
sure it works. That's too hot, But no, we are
going to be at Rocca and Martillo the restaurant, at
the Spurs Zone out near their practice facility, at the
Victory Capitol Performance Center.

Speaker 2 (10:38):
Or at the Rock. At the Rock absolutely nice.

Speaker 1 (10:42):
So we will be out there for thirteen weeks with
Jeff Trailer, maybe a fourteenth week went depending on what
the schedules allow. Once UTSA makes the postseason right before
their bowl game, and then the Basketball show will also
be out there starting sometime around the first of January.
Whatever money and Tuesdays and Wednesdays we can work out.
We need a basketball schedule to come out before we

(11:05):
can define all those games and times and dates and
all that. So we have a new home, and we'll
talk more about that coming up in the five o'clock
hour or the six o'clock hour when we talk about
the Spurs out. The NBA has come out and has
asked all of its partners that are involved in gambling,
So this would be fan duel, this would be.

Speaker 2 (11:26):
Draft Kings.

Speaker 1 (11:27):
I'm sure Bally's I think is still are the sports books.
Basically if you look at when you watch a game
on the East Coast, you probably see Mohegan Sun and
some of the other casinos that are along the Eastern seaboard.
Basically they're telling all these people that do prop bets,
can you kind of cut back on the number of
prop bets you do, especially for players who don't play

(11:50):
very much, the guys at the end of the bench,
because a we don't even know if they're going to
get in the game or not. And number two, if
they do get in the game, if there's a bet,
why would if you're gonna bet plus or minus on
a player who rarely plays, then we know that you
know that he's probably going to play, or he's been
told that he's going to play. That's kind of a

(12:11):
red flag. And that's what happened to Johntay Porter. Yep
is he rarely gets in the game, but he knew
he was going to get to play in the game,
and then he took himself out of the game before
he hit the number that he was supposed to get
as his prop bet.

Speaker 2 (12:25):
And that's what led to his suspension.

Speaker 1 (12:26):
And this is an opportunity for them to protect themselves
from everyone. And we'll talk more about the gambling aspect
of it. And I'm not sure why prop bets are
so popular, but there's certainly something that we're gonna have
to deal with for a long time.

Speaker 2 (12:41):
We'll get into all that.

Speaker 1 (12:42):
Let's talk about Michigan football, what this means to the
program and if Michigan's going to be able to survive this,
which I kind of think they will be able to.

Speaker 2 (12:52):
That's all coming up. It's the Andy Everage Show on
the ticket
