Speaker 1 (00:04):
Good news today if you're a malite Beasley fan. The
NBA has exonerated him from any further investigation in the FEDS.
I guess I've done this as well. Nice that he
is off the hook. As far as the gambling probes
are concerned, there was some any time that there is
questionable prop betting on a certain players in an over

(00:29):
abundance of money that ends up in casinos, it gets
flagged by those who are are looking at it right,
and the first thing that they do is go back
and look at the film of the of the game
that that player played in and to see if there's
anything that indicates that he may be trying to manipulate
whatever the prop bet is. Does he play a certain
amount of minutes, does he score a certain amount of points?

(00:51):
Does he miss a free throw that looks like it
was missed on purpose so that he stays under a
point total and that maybe he's in on it, or
did somebody just kind of say, you know, we're all
going to get together and do this and they put
an unusual bet on it. Every one of those exotic bets,
those prop bets are heavily scrutinized. I think even more

(01:12):
so than the lines and the over and unders that
we see in in sports. So I hope Malik Beasley
gets his money. He was going to sign a tenure,
a four year, forty two million dollar contract with the
Pistons during the free agent period, and then these allegations
came out and they said, well, we're going to have
to go another direction here.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
Sorry, you're you're going to be under.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
Suspension for a while, and so Detroit stopped. So my
hope is is that he does get an opportunity to
sign somewhere. It may not be for forty two million,
maybe signs a one year deal for ten or twelve
and then gets his bigger paycheck in the future, but
at least he's off the hook from this.

Speaker 3 (01:53):
Yeah. And for those of them know and I know
you and I saw this not too long ago. And
the niad Pacers, who recently lost Harvey's Halibert for this year,
they are heavily trying to get him over there, trying
to rebuild that backcourt. And by the way, any for
you and the listeners out there, are you are you?
I found this out like a while ago and it
ties into this. Are you ever curious as to why
the line on a game might say one thing, but

(02:14):
the prop bets heavily favored the other side, even if
one side is favored to win.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
Well, to be honest with you, I've never paid attention
to it. And I don't even know where you find
the prop bets because I've never looked for them on
the apps. Yeah, I don't have I don't have a
I don't have fan duel or DraftKings. I don't care.
I don't play fantasy sports. Yeah, uh and so uh.
To be perfectly honest, I could I couldn't tell you. You know,
there's a game tomorrow. I don't even know what the

(02:40):
Iowa state Kansas state line is, and I don't know
what the over under is on how many pass attempts
either quarterback is going to have, or any other prop
bet in that game. So I don't pay attention to that.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
Here.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
Here's my here's the deal. When you're I think the
I think football. When you look at over and unders
and and points, spreads are a very easy thing to
bet on. When I was a kid, my dad and
I had a little contest that we did during the
NFL season, probably from the time I was eight or nine,
years old until I was maybe in high school or

(03:12):
just right as I got out of high school, and
we had sat down like on wednes Say or Thursday
of the week, and basically you took turns and we
didn't the lines weren't printed in the paper, but we
would say, well, let's say Houston's.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
Playing New Orleans. Well your job was to pick.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
Okay, I'll set the line that Houston's a six point favorite,
and so we would just kind of keep track of
that for fun. There was no betting going on. I
didn't even understand that there was a thing like that
until I was in high school and that there was
betting on sports. But it was just something kind of
fun to do as a contest between me and him.

(03:53):
And I was a big Oilers fan, so I would
always make him set the line, and because he knew
I wanted to others to win, I would, uh, you know,
the Oiler's minus thirty six. Okay, I'm gonna take the
Oilers seal, you know. But it's I think that's an
easy thing to bet on. But there's a lot of
people that want to have a different action on things,

(04:17):
and that's why we get into the all the prop
bets and the Super Bowl prop bets make more sense.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
How long is the national anthem gonna be?

Speaker 1 (04:24):
And who's gonna you know, is there gonna be a
wardrobe malfact?

Speaker 2 (04:28):
Malfunction?

Speaker 1 (04:30):
Uh? You know who's gonna win the coin toss? Who's
gonna is there gonna be a run back for a
kickoff to start the game? To me, when you get
the Super Bowl, those are kind of more fun because
everybody's watching the super Bowl. When the Saints are playing
the Panthers in a meaningless Sunday afternoon game in October,
anytime you see a weird bet than that means that
there's probably some action on there that shouldn't be so.

(04:50):
But yeah, I understand where sometimes the lines will skew
in favor of one player while the the other line
is favoring the other team.

Speaker 3 (04:57):
Well, asher who I was getting now was that The
reason is because the line is what draws people in.
And whenever you go, for instance, let's say FanDuel, you
go to FanDuel, the line on a game is sixty points,
you think it's going to be over. You go there,
and the prop bets are what come up. Those are
the small bets that people think they can make more
money on because they're tiny extra bets along the side,
because no one bets a lot of money on those.
And that's kind of the thing. It's kind of like

(05:18):
when you fish, you let lay out the worm. This
one is how you bring the fish in as the
line kind of drags you in because no one thinks
that line's legit. No one thinks that the two point
favorite makes any sense. And those tiny little ones, there's
more money that people will spend and if they can
make one great. If they can't, then they bust it
even out. It doesn't matter in the end. The gambling
companies are the ones that win.

Speaker 1 (05:37):
All right, Well, I'm glad Malik Beasley's got a chance
to play back in the NBA and that he didn't
do something stupid like some of the other guys in
the league have done. Tommy Fleetwood Russell Henley both played
well today sixty three and sixty six respectively. They have
the lead at thirteen under. Cam Young is trying to
make the Ryder Cup team and making a great impression
for Captain Bradley. He is shot out of the lead,

(06:02):
and Scottie Scheffler is at eight under par after a
sixty nine today he's five back.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
We'll talk a lot of golf tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (06:08):
I know who I would pick for the United States
Ryder Cup team. We'll talk about that on the Rate
on the Golf Show coming up tomorrow. One more segment
to go. We wrap up the day. Next it's the
Andy Average Show on the Ticket
