Speaker 1 (00:04):
We'll get to the gambling stuff in the next segment
here coming up, I want to remind you that you
can help teachers in San Antonio by nominating a teacher
that made a difference in your life, someone that you
believed in or just made learning absolutely fun. Today's teacher,
let's get to the list here of these folks. Today's

(00:25):
teacher is Autumn Sancho from John Jay High School. Third
year biology teacher at John Jay. Goes above and beyond
for her students, makes biology contagious. Many students credit her
with sparking their interest in science, and she's truly deserving
of this recognition and a chance to bring even more
research sources to her students. Again, Autumn Sancho at John

(00:47):
Jay High School, thanks for your contribution here and we
want to remind you to nominate a teacher whenever you
have an opportunity to do so at iHeartRadio dot com
slash teachers. So and if you haven't heard the news
of the day, a couple of things that have happened.
Michigan's football program slapped with a pretty big hefty fine.

(01:13):
They think it's going to impact the school by about
thirty five million dollars when all of a sudden done
taking away the revenue they get from the postseason show
causes for the coaches that were there, and those are
the things that are the most important. They're not going
to have to vacate any wins or any national championships
or anything of that nature. But Sureon Moore will have

(01:35):
to miss the first couple games of this year. He
will coach the OU game. I think that's week two
or three up in Norman. Also today, Don Harris is
reporting that several people and sources have told him that
there is a term sheet in place now for the
Spurs in the city on what the moneyless situation it's
going to look like for the opportunity for Project Marvel

(02:00):
and the new basketball arena for the Spurs in a
downtown location where the Institute of Texas Cultures is now
being dismantled. If you haven't been by there lately, the
wrecking ball has already been out there tearing that building down,
and that would be the footprint of where the new
arena would go. And so we may have some progress
in some news as the early next week as to

(02:22):
something formal that they can release and start educating people
on everything about this building. I'm going to repeat this
until we get to the voting day and up until
the time the polls close. If you want to vote no,
if you're not a Spurs fan, and I can't imagine
you would be listening to me if you're not or
a basketball fan of some sort, I understand that you have.

(02:44):
Everybody has a philosophical reason to say yes or no
when it i'mes time to go to the polls, But
I hope you go with yourself fully educated. I hope
you understand what the taxation that is being talked about
actually means. And when we have some people on the
from city officials on in the future leading up to this,

(03:05):
the big thing I'm going to talk about is how
do we educate everybody to understand that if you don't
rent a car or stay in a hotel, you're not
paying any tax. And to me, that's the most important
part of all of this. If I tell you I
want you to do something for me and it's going
to cost you one hundred bucks, and you go, well, no,
don't got a hundred bucks, I can't do it, Well,
what if it was zero? Would you do it? Okay?

(03:28):
Or what if somebody else was paying the bill, I
just need you to allow them to pay the bill.
Are you okay with me going to dinner and letting
somebody else pay that you know, you know or don't know.
And so that's basically what we're coming down to. You're
not paying for this unless you stay in a hotel.
And I understand you're going to have relatives that come
in and stay in a hotel for special days or holidays.

(03:51):
They may come in to rent a car, you may
have a graduation or some kind of a you know,
a wedding or something like that. And yes, you're friends
and family are going to stay in hotels and pay
a one percent tax. But if they're spending one thousand
dollars to come here for the week or whatever, and
we're talking another ten bucks, I don't think that's going

(04:12):
to deter anybody from not coming, whether they're a family
or not. So this is this is not a taxation
against this community.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
Yeah. Again, if there's something that you and I or
the city is missing with some of what has been
put out there, then just again, the biggest thing is
educate us. Let us know. Okay, why are y'all wording
it this way. Why are you saying that the city's
going to be on the hook for this? Where is
that coming from? And I can go ahead and say

(04:43):
that this Sunday, we were originally supposed to have the
mayor on, Unfortunately she backed out, but we are going
to have on District ten council Member Mark White. He
will be on The Fanatic with Dylan in Shane this Sunday.
So if you have questions for counsel Councilman Mark White

(05:07):
on the iHeartRadio app on Ticket seven to sixty, use
the talkback feature, leave us a twenty to thirty second question,
keep it clean, and then if you have any questions,
we will try to pose those to the council member
to again help educate. That's the biggest thing. We just
all want to be educated on what we are voting.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
Well, I think that sports fans in general are probably
on board. Yes, the Spurs, and we've got to protect
our only NBA franchise or only professional franchise. But I
want those who are hedging their bets basically to understand
that they're not putting a lot on the line by
saying yes. And to me, that's an important part. And

(05:49):
when Gino Ortiz Jones was talking earlier the day, we
need to know what this is going to cost the city.
We need to know what the numbers are. Well, if
you're collecting attacks from tourists and you're putting it in
a bank account, and then you're taking that bank account
and giving it to the people that are building the arena,
why do you care what it costs? I mean, the

(06:10):
hotel motel task go on for ten years as long
as you're not paying for it, and at some point
you want you may want it to go down and
then you put it back on when you need something
else that you're raising capital for. But if you're not
paying for it, I don't see why there's a finite
number that has to be there, because there are going
to be things that happen in the construction of a

(06:30):
building that over two years may cost more then than
they actually do. Now, all right, let's get to this
gambling stuff that the NBA is asking its partners to
get into. We'll do that next on the ticket
