Speaker 3 (00:09):
Thanks for listening to us.
Speaker 1 (00:11):
This afternoon, Jonathan Vegas leads the way at the PGA Championship.
This hour, we'll commence everything with some golf stuff. Scotty
Scheffler trying to make a little bit of a run.
We'll tell you about what city Council wants to do.
And we've got Kevin Durant being the Whineye, Kevin Durant.
I love Kevin Durant, the player. I just swisch. Kevin
Durant would not care what other people that don't matter
(00:34):
care about him or say about him. So we'll get
to all of that coming up in a second. Even
though I want Roy McElroy to play well and potentially
win another leg of the Grand Slam here this year
and win the PGA Championship, it's going to be really
hard for me to forgive him for wearing burn Orange today.
I think he just got I think the shipment from
(00:56):
Nike got sent to his house instead of Scotti Scheffler's.
Although Scotty was wearing the same shirt yesterday.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
Two days in a row.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
Yeah, yeah, Scotty was rocking the uh was rocking the
burn Orange.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
I think he was doing a little bit of a
he's wearing blue today.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
Yeah, a little bit of homage to last year, you know,
remember when Uh yeah, I think that's beyond him. Yea.
Speaker 1 (01:16):
There's a big difference between a jailhouse orange and a
and a in a like Texas longhorn orange.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
Okay, obviously this is a replay because I saw it,
but yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:25):
No one won there.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
Yeah, see what Kim all right? Uh, Shane Lowry had
an interesting day to day.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
He did.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
Shane Lowry hit a second shot into a divot. For
those of you that don't know this, you don't get
relief from a divot. You have to uh, you have
to play it where it lies. And sometimes the divot's
okay and sometimes it's not, and this one was not.
And he left it short of the hole and then
he missed about a fifteen footer to try to say
(01:53):
parr and uh and gave the one finger salute to
the golf ball as he was walking up to tap
it in.
Speaker 3 (02:01):
Oh, that's awesome.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
Rory hit what looked to be a brilliant shot on
a par three today and it climbed up the hill
and climbed up the hill and then it stopped and
then it decided not to climb the hill anymore and
roll back about forty feet out and be off the
green and behind a bunker. Rory wasn't too happy with that.
Let's toss a club. I do like emotion on the
golf course.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
Now.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
I don't want you to throw a club at hurt somebody,
and certainly that's not what you should quote unquote teach
the kids. But this is an emotional game, and sometimes
we see people that are not very emotional when it
comes to golf, and Tiger was usually pretty.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
Stoic, except he cussed a lot.
Speaker 1 (02:44):
But we're seeing people fighting for their lives out here,
trying to get into the history and win a championship.
And right now it's Jonathan Vegas with a two shot
lead over Matthew Fitzpatrick and Matthew Pavaughan and Max Homer.
Max Holma's two back. Now, Max Holma finally has gotten
off the milk cart. In the last couple of weeks,
he's played much better golf and this has kind of
come out of nowhere. He was an up and coming
(03:06):
guy that was in that list of guys to never
win a major. He's got a chance because he's only
a couple of shots three shots back. The cut line
right now is a minus is a plus one, and
Rory's inside the cut line.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
He's even part.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
He's got a birdie putt coming up to I think
to get to one under and or maybe two under.
I'll have to check the leaderboard here in a second.
Scheffler is well inside the cut line. He's at minus four,
but he also has a birdie putt on the same
hole as they're playing together. So we're in for a
good weekend of golf. And Vegas got it to ten under,
but kind of fell backwards today. Vegas was the recipient
(03:42):
of some Vegas like luck as he hit a shot
that looked like it was going into a bunker and
it hit a bunker rake and ricochet back into play
on the green. So he had some some longhorned lut
coming his way as well.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
Have you seen anything like that happen ever before? Oh yeah,
all the time.
Speaker 3 (03:58):
Yeah yeah. K just animally puts rain, normally puts somewhere.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
See, there's a debate on where rake should be. And
back when I first started playing, we were always told
put the break back in the bunker, but now we're
told put the rake on the side of the bunker,
and sometimes the rake on the side of the bunker
will either deflect your ball into the bunker or into
a hazard penalty area now and sometimes it will save
(04:23):
you from going into two peril.
Speaker 3 (04:25):
So we've kind of seen it both ways.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
It was it was pretty funny because when it happened,
I was I chatted with our buddy David Munos, and
he posed this question to me, how hilarious would it
be if Jonathan Vegas decides to roll with the whole bit,
if he winds up winning the whole thing on the
last day, decide to get all dressed up like a
(04:50):
Vegas style let's just say, you.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
Know, gangster style, you know, mafia guy.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
And I told I told David, I was like, it
would be even more hilarious if he rocks up with
a violin case and then just decides to roll.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
With the Yeah, Shane, Yeah, Well I don't think that.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
I don't think he will.
Speaker 1 (05:11):
Don't think he will. And now Roy's minus one. I
guess after fifteen Vegas, we'll see if Jonathan Vegas can
hang on to this lead. There's a lot of people
that are in pursuit of him. Looks like Shane Lowry's
gonna miss the cut as he's gonna miss his birdie
putt at seventeen or at eighteen as the cut line
is still at plus plus one, So we'll see how this.
(05:33):
I still think Scheffler's in now. He's at five under
only three back. Yep, he's got a chance to get
in there. Dinny McCarthy just hold one out from the
side of the green over a bunker, so we're seeing
some shot making there. He's an underrated player. He's at
three under par. So this is a golf course. And
I watched this golf course every year when they play
(05:56):
the Wells Fargo or now the Truest Championship there, and
it'll be back there next year.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
I would love to play this golf course now.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
I don't want to play it from seventy six hundred
yards and the tips with the greens running at one
hundred miles an hour that they are now, but I
think this would be a fun place to be a member.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
Again. We talked about this yesterday, Andy.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
I don't know if there's any golf course in the
world that you would not want to play. Oh yeah,
they would not want to think that it would not
be fun.
Speaker 1 (06:23):
Oh there's there's some golf courses that when I haven't
had enough aggravation in my life, I choose to go
play them because they'll give me plenty uh and and
one of them is one that I'm playing when I
go to Scotland. The hardest golf course on the planet,
at least the one that I've ever played, is Carnoustie,
and I have zero expectation when I go there that
I have any chance of shooting a good score.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
The Roby Williams skit plays Oh.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
My god, yeah, yeah, that's but there is no hope
on that golf course you've got. I can't describe the
holes with the proper adjective because it's not FCC approved,
but every is that uh and the first one is
kind of okay, we'll kind of get you warmed up here,
(07:05):
but if you hit it left or right, you're in
the junk, and then the rest of the hole is
getting progressively harder after that. I have never played a
golf course that even is remotely as hard as that one.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
Again, I think it's hilarious that at Saint Andrew's there
is a what is it, the the death hole, The
death bunker where it's well.
Speaker 3 (07:24):
You have to shoot backwards to go forward.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
Well, there's several that are that way, But you know
which one I'm talking about. It's not just Saint Andrews.
There's a lot of golf courses that if you go
into a bunker, you better hit sideways or backwards, because
forwards is not an option.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Yeah, when you know which one I'm talking about, the
one that looks like it's like ten feet deep where
you just look the road hole bunker?
Speaker 3 (07:45):
Is that one?
Speaker 1 (07:46):
You go left or right and you don't go towards
the flag. No, you go backwards. Yeah, if you can,
if you're not up against it, if you're not up
against the face sodding Hadeki Matsuyama is likely to miss
the cut after he was one of my picks. Oh,
but Hadeki had was the leader and cuts made in
in consecutive in a major. I think Shopley still has
(08:07):
the overall cuts made streak at fifty eight, but Matsiyama
had it the most cuts made in consecutive order in
a major at nineteen. But he's three over and he's
going to be headed to the next tournament. I would
imagine the Memorial in a couple of weeks. Yeah, Xander's
at plus one.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
You know, when we were watching earlier, Xander's just Xander
doesn't look he's he doesn't look like he's one hundred
percent healthy.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
And I know you were saying, I think when you
have the rib Yeah, when you have those ribs or
slash intercostal muscles that bother you, the one thing after
you finally get the comp you always for a while
have this lack of confidence that if I swing really hard,
is it can hurt again?
Speaker 3 (08:49):
Yeah, and I can.
Speaker 1 (08:50):
I haven't done had the injury that he's had, but
I've had some strains in that in that rib area,
and it is you just knocks the wind out of
you and it's pretty painful. So he's probably a little
bit cautious of that. But I think it also comes
from the fact that he didn't play a lot of
golf December and January and February and really didn't get
(09:11):
back to work until bay Hill in March. And when
you take eight or nine weeks off and you really
don't even want to swing a golf club. You may
practice pudding a little bit, but for eight or nine
weeks you're not swinging a golf club, but the power
that these guys can swing it at. And now you've
got to go out and trust that you can do that.
And when you're always kind of favoring a muscle, especially
when it's in your in your core area or the ribcage,
(09:35):
you're gonna kind of hesitate for that.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
By the way, I just want to point out that
all three of my picks right now are going to
make look.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
Like there will be making the cuts two out of year,
two out of my three or trunk slammers. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (09:49):
But Scotty is five under through fifteen, and you know,
I hadn't seen him a lot. I guess he teed
off earlier today. Bryson de Shambeau. Yeah he's in there.
He's a minus three and yeah he's minus three. He's
already done for the day. And then the aforementioned Xander
Zanet is at one over through fifteen, so.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
They're now playing the green mile. This is the stretch
where you really have to play well. In sixteen is
where on Thursday, all three of those golfers hit the ball,
or all three in that group hit the ball in
the water and may double. It's not often that you
get three guys making a six on a hole in
a professional golf tournament.
Speaker 3 (10:28):
But that's that's what happens. Rossmus Hoguard ho Guard.
Speaker 1 (10:33):
Yes, yeah, you're now learning how to pronounce golf names
from Sweden.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
Well again, this goes back to this goes back to
some of the NBA where it's after so many times
you have to learn some of these different, you know,
foreign guys names. So it's not a shock Andy, it's
just once I hear it for the first time, it's like, Okay,
I know how to say it.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
All right.
Speaker 1 (10:53):
A programming little teas here we're going to have on.
I'm trying to see where he finished, because I have
not looked lately on the leader board. But on the
show tomorrow, Brian Gathwright's going to join us.
Speaker 3 (11:08):
Brian is one of the Golf Show in the morning.
Speaker 1 (11:12):
Brian is one of the best and most not note
notorious teachers in San Antonio, and he teaches a guy
named Johnny Keefer who is made his way up. He's
from Alma Heights, I think, or maybe maybe maybe it's Johnson.
Speaker 3 (11:28):
I think it's Johnson.
Speaker 1 (11:29):
But Johnny is played at Baylor and is now making
his way on the PGA Tour and he's one of
the He's moved up into the top one hundred in
the world, and that was one of the things that
got him into the into the into the PGA. So
we're gonna get Brian's thoughts on how he's doing. He's
(11:50):
at plus seven, so he's not gonna he's not gonna
make the cut, but we'll see. We'll see what Brian
has to say about his progress and what his chances are.
A San Antonio golfer a lot a lot in the
lines of Jimmy Walker that I think has a good
chance of being a PGA Tour pro. And then the meisters,
both Mac and Mitchell Meisner. He also teaches, and those
(12:12):
guys are going to be up and coming guys on
both the corn Ferry Tour and the regular tour.
Speaker 2 (12:16):
Of that conversation tomorrow, I mean just looking at the course,
just some of the scores. Yeah, he shot a seventy
three to day plus two, and then yesterday shot a
seventy six like you mentioned, so seven over. But on
the way that this course has been playing today, plus
two is not I think you would probably take plus two.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
I would take plus two.
Speaker 1 (12:36):
I'm pretty much any golf course I take plus twelve. Listen,
I'm not gonna I'm not able to drive the ball
the distance that these guys do not even close, and
I'm not going to pretend.
Speaker 3 (12:48):
That I do.
Speaker 1 (12:48):
I don't have this this van any thing. Oh yeah,
I hit it three hundred yards. Yeah, down win Downhill
on concrete, I can hit it three hundred yards. Most
of you can't hit it three hundred yards, even though
you think you can with a super rubber ball to
some of you may be able to, but most of
you cannot, especially once you get to a certain age.
Speaker 3 (13:06):
Uh but uh yeah, I don't think I'm.
Speaker 1 (13:08):
Going to play a golf course where the par fours
are longer than the par fives that I normally play,
and I don't need to struggle that much. All Right,
The city council wants to do something that I think
is pretty cool. What don't we all think about this?
Next we'll tell you it's the Andy Everage show.
Speaker 3 (13:23):
On the ticket
