Speaker 1 (00:04):
You can't fumble. If you're Jake Ferguson, sorry, that's not
in the cards. You've got to play a clean game.
Detroit still a good team. You had the opportunity to
beat them. You didn't get it done. If you throw
a look in pattern and the ball comes to you,
you got to catch it. And if you're not going
to catch it, knock it down. Don't bat it up
in the air where somebody can run up underneath it
and intercept it. These guys are pros. They've done the

(00:25):
tip drills many times. They know exactly what they're doing,
and they're they're the ones that are gonna make you
pay for that. You cannot turn the ball over in
the NFL, or in football period. Go look at every
game that's decided by two or three scores, and generally speaking,
the two or three scorers are in direct relation to
the turnover battle. The turnover the team that turns it

(00:47):
over and and wins the game is very, very rare.
I can remember a game I went to in college Oklahoma.
This was back when the college football still played regular
season regular in regular ties. Oklahoma was playing Iowa State.
They were thirty point favorites and tied the game seven

(01:08):
to seven. And I believe, oh, you had eleven fumbles
and recovered and lost nine of them, and nine turnovers
in the game and still in Iowa State missed a
twenty three yard field goal at the buzzer to lose
or it would have been an upset for them. And
how in the world a team could turn it over
nine times and still win the game is ridiculous. But

(01:28):
or not lose the game, they should they should have
lost by it. They actually they should have won forty
nine to nothing because they were in the red zone
the whole time. But anytime that you turn the ball over,
you every time that you do that, you give the
other team a chance to get that much further ahead
of you. And last night was an example of the Cowboys.
And I know it's not Dak's fault. He's going to
get credit for it. The receivers have to catch him

(01:50):
and Jake Ferguson can't fumble. But no matter what, you
can't put your defense in that much peril. I don't
think the defense played as well as it did against
Kansas City and Philadelphia, but they had a short field
to defend several times, and the Detroit offense seemingly is
playing better with Dan Campbell calling the plays after Ben
Johnson left last year and they were letting others call

(02:12):
them this year.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
Andy, there are multiple ways you can look at this
game as to why they lost. Surprisingly if you just look,
if you're someone who looks at the stat sheet, the
Cowboys had more first downs.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
They were better on third down, they were but on
fourth down.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
Matter of fact, they kept Detroit away from fourth down
situations where Dan Campbell loves to go for it. They
had better passing yards, but the thing is they allowed
almost two yards more per carry on the ground. They
had the three fumbles. They had the issues with the
penalties as well. Again, I don't want to talk for
about the refs. Last night's fishing crew was terrible, But
there are a couple players I want to highlight where

(02:45):
you could throw this blame towards. Okay, we talked about
it a little with Kamante Turpin, that little hand check thing.
He does a little wave off him saying that's not
that's not be called for a fair catch.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
That looks like a fair catch signal. And that's two
times in a week.

Speaker 4 (02:57):
He's got to get out of that happens.

Speaker 3 (02:58):
Yeah, I stopped doing that.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
That's one number two, Andy, This team missed last night.
They missed Tyler Goydon, and they missed Jadevian Clowney because
Tyler Guiden has become their best off asive tackle.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
Even though Nate Thomas looked good against Kansas.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
City last week, he allowed eleven pressures last night, and
eight of them came in the second half. And that
was against guys at like al Kadi Mohammad and Aiden Hutchinson.
And that was a lot of times one on one
pass block situation. Another thing, Javi Klin was so far
missed that even though Diamond Azeraku, a guy I've coveted
their second round pick out of Boston College, they were

(03:31):
cycling in guys like Sam Williams who had the block
blocked blocked field goal. They had guys like Dantae follerin there.
They were unable to set the edge in all game long.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
And you saw it.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
What were they doing when they ran the ball The
majority of the time, it was bouncing out to the
outside past the edge.

Speaker 3 (03:47):
The majority of their inside runs. They had a couple
of inside runs that went deeper, most of them.

Speaker 4 (03:51):
Gim Montgomery were able to get to the corner.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
They were getting to the corner on the outside, and
the cornerbacks weren't were like not strong enough again against
their receivers. But again, their receiving co or is like
it's it's it's solid. It's really good. Especially it's really.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
Good, especially when Brown's playing. And he was not one
hundred percent, but he didn't look like he was hurting
much last night.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
He looked he looked like he looked like normal.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
I'mon Ross Saint Brown and this Cowboys secondary again, like
we've talked about issues, but the team has had the
secondary has been issue all year. And granted three games
prior against Kansas City, against Philly, against the against the Raiders,
it's looked better, but you still have issues off and
on with Durron Bland Calin Carson. You were happy to
have him back last night, but he was but he

(04:31):
was often too far off coverage to where like you,
he was a consistent threat.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
And they played way too much. And I hate this
handy and you know I do. I've said it before.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
I hate soft coverage against the number one receiver, especially
in obvious passing down.

Speaker 3 (04:42):
I hate that.

Speaker 4 (04:43):
I don't like a lot of zone defense. Sure I would.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
I think, uh, if if Chavone Ravel is as good
as he was touted at East Carolina, and if Doron
Bland is as good as he has been, there's no
reason why they can't play man up on a on
a receiver and let the safeties take care of the
other the slot receiver, the tight end, and somebody to
make sure the back doesn't get out in the flat

(05:07):
and send six or seven you know what the end
and that you've got to get pressure on quarterbacks. If
you don't pressure quarterbacks, they're finally going to get somebody open.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
What they need to do, honestly, And he's putt Darron
Bland back in the nickel because I understand he's been
useful to you on the outside and you paid him
to be an outside corner. But he would And maybe
I'm wrong, but you remember darm Blaine early in his career,
he was an all pro level cornerback when he was
the slot corner. Put him back in there. Let's vunerabel
be the outside guy. Put Kiln Carson on the other side,
or draft the guy. It doesn't matter. But right now,

(05:34):
having Darron Bland on the outside feels like a liability
safety or safety issue or not. Obviously there's injuries that
go into this and all that, and what was up
with the linebackers? How many times have we seen Kenneth
Murray or even to Marvin Overshown or whoever was out
there on the field, like go the wrong direction whenever
runn back would cut back inside.

Speaker 4 (05:52):
And get him out.

Speaker 1 (05:53):
And Gibbs got you know, faked him out several times,
so many times, and you got to you got to
understand if you sit there and wait for them and
try to figure out what the move is, those guys
are smaller and quicker than you are, and they can
out maneuver you.

Speaker 4 (06:05):
You have to just go after.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
I mean, you put your your eyes on their numbers
and you don't stop until there until you see nothing
but their jersey.

Speaker 4 (06:13):
And they didn't do that last night.

Speaker 1 (06:14):
But defensively, yeah, I don't know if Bland can still
cover the elite wide receivers in the league. Maybe covers
the secondary wide receiver, but I don't I've never been
a big fan of zone defense. Sometimes I know you
have to play it, but I want to see if
you have a if you haven't in a if you
have a secondary that's not as good as the other

(06:36):
team's wide receivers.

Speaker 4 (06:37):
Okay, then, especially in.

Speaker 1 (06:39):
College play zone, yes, that's a safe way to not
give that big plays. But if you have all pro
materials at at corner, then there's no reason why they
shouldn't get their share of balls against the other team's
wide receivers.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
You look at modern NFL offenses also, andy man coverage
oftentimes use more than zone just because of the way
offenses are run, especially with with the with the way
the routes are of open up down the field, and
your safety is are your safety net. But there are
a couple of guys I thought that we should highlight
from a positive standpoint. So I just talked about Donovan
as Arakund as a rock who continues to be one

(07:10):
of the and they have him grated. Also one of
the best run defended edge rushers in the NFL. He's
gonna come along as a pass rusher. That's one guy,
Ryan Florinoy, he is your wide receiver.

Speaker 4 (07:21):
Three, Yes he is turps down four.

Speaker 3 (07:23):
Turpin Turpin is fine as a gadget guy.

Speaker 2 (07:25):
Right.

Speaker 3 (07:25):
You can still use him on on the jet sweeps
or inside out runs.

Speaker 2 (07:27):
You can even play him in the slot a little bit,
but but Florinoy needs to be your number three moving forward.
He has been a really really good open He kind
of reminds me a little bit with Cedric Wilson was
remember him m as like that third security blanket type receiver.
And then finally Andy and obviously everyone's gonna talk about
about Butter they uh, Brandon Aubrey making all those kicks

(07:49):
free from beyond fifty in a game for like the
third time in his career is insane. But the interior
this Cowboys offensive line, we can complain of one about
the tackles, but the interior of Tyler Smith, Hooper BB
and Tyler Booker. That has been a godsend on this
offensive line because outside the tackle play you can appreciate
the ins here.

Speaker 3 (08:07):
They have been able to run the ball with Javon
say Williams.

Speaker 2 (08:09):
They've been able to give Dack at Dak time in
the pocket because that interior on the opposive line. So
I feel like, even though there's a lot of negative
last night, there were some bright spots.

Speaker 1 (08:17):
The Cowboys have the Vikings next week, then they're at
Washington or the Chargers. Than at Washington and New York.
To finish up, they've got to run the table to
get to ten six and one.

Speaker 3 (08:26):
I think they can.

Speaker 4 (08:27):
I do.

Speaker 1 (08:27):
I think they And they have fight all bet Washington
at home, so they get three of the next fourt home.

Speaker 4 (08:31):
Well that helps.

Speaker 1 (08:32):
Even Philadelphia's needs to lose to the Chargers and and
then I don't think they have well they have the Raiders, Commanders,
Bills and Commanders.

Speaker 3 (08:39):
And the Commanders actually might get JAYE. Davis back, so
that a little.

Speaker 1 (08:42):
So, So let's say they they need to go at
least three and two or worse the Eagles. Yeah, okay,
and that would give Dallas a chance.

Speaker 4 (08:50):
Actually, I think, uh so.

Speaker 3 (08:52):
That the Cowboys went out, they'll go ten six and
one sixson one.

Speaker 1 (08:54):
I think you need the Eagles to go ten ands
out win two more game, yes, yeah, so they Yeah
that they the Eagles to go two and three in
the final five.

Speaker 2 (09:01):
And I think the likely wins you could pencil in
would be the Raiders and one of the Commanders going Washington,
wins in Philly, yes, because Philly on the road is
a different team than they are at home.

Speaker 1 (09:12):
The dominant Chargers you could lose to one of the
Commander's games you could lose to, and the Bills you could.

Speaker 4 (09:18):
Lose to, and you need them to You need them
to lose those games, all right.

Speaker 1 (09:22):
Kyler Murray has been told that he's not going to
play anymore this year, and maybe he's told them I
can't play anymore this year. And there's no question that
I think they're going to try to move off of him.
If Jacoby Brissett can be the better quarterback than he
is and they go after a rookie, then Ressett and
that rookie can kind of share the load until it's
time to play. But where can Kyler Murray go? And

(09:45):
Kyler Murray maybe consider going back to his first love
and playing baseball at this stage of his life.

Speaker 4 (09:50):
I'll tell you.

Speaker 1 (09:52):
I'll tell you the places where they're going to have
quarterback openings, but I'm not sure it's a good fit
for Kyler Murray.

Speaker 4 (09:57):
That discussion coming up on the ticket
