Speaker 1 (00:03):
Shay Howard along with Nugget Merriment, and we are coming
to you live from the What were we Which studio
is this? Has a studio been named somehow?

Speaker 2 (00:13):
I think it's a D, C, B F.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
Is it C?

Speaker 2 (00:18):
It could be?

Speaker 1 (00:18):
Is it a C?

Speaker 2 (00:19):
I think Studio C. That's where we used to be. Remember, Yeah, yeah,
so I know that one's D, so this one's got
to be C. I would think so. Yeah, I'm not
real good on the alphabet, but it could be wrong.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Yeah. By the way, we keep talking about hockey because
I'm trying to stir some conversation up. I know there
are hockey fans somewhere. But last night something happened at
the end of the game that I did not expect
to happen. M that's the Oilers won, and they brought
out the trophy for being Western Conference champions. I guess

(00:53):
that Clarence Campbell Trophy. I believe the thing in hockey
is you do not touch the trophy, right, that's superstition.
You don't touch the trophy because that would jinx you.
In the Stanley Cup, all the Oilers touched the trophy, really,
I guess because last year they didn't and they lost
in the final to the Florida's.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
Yeah, so now they all touched it trying to reverse
the curse.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
I think so. Huh So usually that's an old hockey thing.
Don't touch the trophy do you win it? Can't touch
the Stanley Cup? Do you win it? Can't put your
hand on it. Nothing.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Did you have superstitions when you were doing Spurs games,
like some same pins? Yes, I know that.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
Yes, my digital clock always had to be in the
same spot in front of me. My cough switch had
to be in the left hand at all times. For
the most part, I used an Indiana Pacers pin.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
Okay, I gotta ask why. First, the Pacers were great.
They would give you all kinds of trinkets. When you
went and did a Pacer game, it'd be in your envelope.
In one year, they had these really good pens.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
And this is a good thing, you know, finding a
good pen. It was hard to find.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
It was a good pen, and I think I got two,
so I used one and put the other one away.
And the next year we went back and I think
we played a preseason game there, so I got there
twice that year. So I had four pens and I
just started using my pacer pen every time whatever, every
Spurs game, I always use this Indiana Pacers pen and

(02:32):
that I just said, okay, you know the first year
I did the game, well, the first year to the games,
they were terrible. But the second year was in Robinson
and Eli and Cummings and they won fifty whatever game,
fifty six games that first year. You're right, And I said, well,
I'm just going to keep using these pens. And I
used them right to the very end. Really, I always yeah, wow,

(02:54):
that was it was. I guess it was superstitious, because
why would.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
I ch Is it just more of a comfort factor?

Speaker 1 (03:00):
No, that was that superstition. So there was a comfort
factor to put everything in front of me in the
same Yeah, we'll album that too, but like my log
book had to be in the same spot so I
can keep track of where we were. My note page
was always in front of me. I had the rosters
of both teams, the officials written down, and under that,

(03:20):
the first sheet under that would be the Spur stats.
The second sheet under that would be the opposing team stats,
so you always feel would be the team's records in
games under five hundred against teams above five hundred, so
I could always pull it out without looking. That's first smart,
That's what I did. That's pretty damn So I was
my superstitu I never I never kept stats. Never, never.

(03:43):
Because when I first started doing play by play way
back when this is in nineteen seventy six. Wow, I
was looking down one time to write something down and
I missed something. Oh, and I said, okay, never, Well
I missed anything again. So I always had someone else

(04:03):
do stats so I can keep my eyes pasted on
the floor of the field or whatever the case may be.
So I never kept stats.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
So at halftime, halftime, what would you do?

Speaker 1 (04:12):
Go to the bathroom?

Speaker 2 (04:13):
That was it, and then come back and come back. Okay, yeah,
you didn't get popcorn or anything like that.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
No, I didn't. I don't eat her in the game.
I just keep I would drink just to keep my
throat moist, but I don't eat anything. And I the
only time I would eat before the game is if
I could eat two hours before the game.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
Yeah, because he wasn't don't exactly right? Yeah, okay, So
I was superstitious. I think everybody in sports a superstition,
even if fans or superstition superstitious.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
I don't know how many times Jebby Debbie changed her
stars Jersey.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
See, that's what the problems. She shouldn't have changed. She
kept it on and kept the same one on the
whole time.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
Yeah, she didn't. It wasn't working. If I said, you
can change Jersey, why don't you put the the T
shirt on that? When they went to the Stanley Cup final? Okay,
that didn't work either. That was last night. Didn't work.
So sorry. See.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
I know people like my wife who during the Spurs
run when they were winning championships and doing well, there
were certain things she had to do during the game
or she felt like they lost if she didn't do
exactly like sit here for this part of the game,
walk around during this part of the game. And I
always thought she was crazy. But it worked.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
During the during the Gulf Wars, I put an American
flag up.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
Okay, it makes sense.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
I was. I was a little superstitious.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
Plus it showed your patriotic support.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
Oh, my patriotic support.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
That's right.

Speaker 1 (05:39):
Margaret and Kurbville. What would you say?

Speaker 2 (05:41):
I remember Margaret and Curby.

Speaker 1 (05:43):
I remember that.

Speaker 2 (05:44):
Oh gosh, yes, I had to take her calls.

Speaker 3 (05:46):
Are you kidding me. Yes, I remember her. No one
knows what we're talking about, not really. So it was
the first night of the First Gulf War. So I'm
driving home from the Spurs game and they have Schwartz
fun and he's talking about dropping bombs down an elevator
shaft and hitting their target and I'm like, holy cow. Yeah,

(06:11):
And all of a sudden, our host takes him off
the air and he says, well, we've heard enough of that.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
Margaret and Curville, what would you say? I'm like, what what?

Speaker 2 (06:22):
Margaret and Curville? Wow?

Speaker 1 (06:24):
And I later put that on a gym rome.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
Yes you did.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
Margaret is not going to be happy with this.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
No, and she wasn't.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
She wasn't.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
You know, she was never happy with anything we did.

Speaker 1 (06:35):
You know, we made her a star.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
Yes, we did that with a lot of callers, though
we really did.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
He made people's stars. Yeah, we were star makers. That's
what we did. You know, this AI thing, which I
thought was a great thing on my part.

Speaker 3 (06:49):
I mean, listen, we're talking about practice, not a gang.

Speaker 2 (06:52):
Not a gang, not a gang, We're talking about.

Speaker 3 (06:56):
Practice, Thank you, mister Iverson. But that's not what I
was talking about. I'm sorry, but it's gone nowhere. I
don't know people care in which they shou'd care, though
they should care about this, Yes, they should care.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
Look, I saw a guy tried to go to court
in New York with an AI lawyer and they got
thrown out because the judge got kicked off at him.
Now I'll turn that thing off. No, no, And now
I believe it's out in Arizona. They're using AI court reporters.

Speaker 3 (07:27):
Yes, that's true. I saw that this week. They're using
AI court reporters. They say they're very good. Well, of
course she's good looking to you. Yeah, it's not bad
looking at all. But you think about that.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
You're taking jobs away from people with these AI created individuals.

Speaker 1 (07:42):
But what we know is they will always take jobs away. Sure,
the jobs will go away, and that's why you have
to be prepared. And that's why I'm saying, you know,
what is the effect of this going to be?

Speaker 2 (07:54):
There's gonna be a bunch of Max Headroom talk show hosts.
Remember Max Headroom. Yes, yeah, he was the first AI guy,
but he wasn't really a no. But it seemed like.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
It, Shane, you want me to stay on time?

Speaker 2 (08:08):
I mean, I prefer it too late,
