Speaker 1 (00:03):
Wrapping up the weekend and getting ready for Monday.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
At the Travelers Championship, Justin Thomas and Scotty Scheffler and
Tommy Fleetwood share the lead at nine under par. Scotty,
after a sixty two yesterday, only managed to sixty nine today,
but JT went sixty seven sixty four in the two days.
Rory was won over on his round today, so he's
four off the lead at minus five. Tommy Fleetwood has

(00:26):
never won a PGA Tour event, never won in the
United States, won all these tournaments in Europe. He's a
one of the top players in the world. He'll be
on the European Ryder Cup team, I would imagine. But
he's got to figure out a way to break through.
But as we all know, this weekend is about whether
Scotty plays or doesn't play, and a Scotty plays, you're

(00:49):
probably not beating him.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
I was looking at it earlier and he was actually
eleven under and then double bogied seventeen. So he is
human occasionally, just had again, just had a glitch in
the matrix.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
Well, it also kind of shows you what wind can,
what wind does. And I told you about the Scotland
experience that I had this year. Yes, and the fact
that five of the six days the wind was hard
to stand up, let alone hit a golf swing. Golfers
would much rather play in the conditions they had last
week at Oakmont, where it rained, then they wouldn't wind. Now,

(01:25):
both are annoying, but it's easier, and the fairways were saturated,
and sand Burn should have gotten a drop on the
casual water that happened to him where he hit the
ball in the junk. But it's a lot easier to
control what you're doing and to be able to get
your distances down with a little bit of water on

(01:46):
the course. Obviously you can't play if it's lightning or
if it's pouring down rain. But if it's just a slow, annoying,
steady drizzle, that's a lot better than I than if
you're playing in a thirty forty mile hour wind.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
What's really worse is when it does both. Yeah, well
we'll see what happens.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
Scotty is the defending champion of the Travelers and what is.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
He not the defending champion of.

Speaker 3 (02:09):
He's not the defending champion of next week, which is
off the top of my head, because I am Minnesota.
I am a golf enthusiast. At this point, Andy has
converted me. It's the Rocket Classic Detroit.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
Yeah, trit next week. I don't think Scotty's playing in Detroit.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
Scotty probably takes two weeks off and then plays the
Scotti shen Britty Schopens in back to back weeks. That's
my That's the Scotty Scheffler Tour travel guide service that
I sometimes I'm able to provide.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
The next defending champion.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
Scottie Scheffler would actually not be until the Tour Championship
at East Lakes.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
Gooff because he didn't win anything in July or August
last year exactly.

Speaker 3 (02:53):
So that being said, that's what Scotti Scheffler is not
the defending champion of.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
There you go.

Speaker 2 (02:59):
Like my my guess is is that like Ricky Fowler
has to play Detroit next week because Rocket Mortgage is
one of his sponsors, so he'll be there.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
Davis previous winner.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
Yeah, and so then the following week is John Deere
and then the week after that Scottie Chopin and the
British Open, and then we'll see then then we'll get
pretty much a couple other I think Minnesota's after that,
and then it's time for the playoffs, playoffs, the golf playoffs,
which I still think the golf playoffs are. I understand

(03:31):
why they do it. They want a season, a definitive
end of the season. But it's like, if you don't
win the Tour championship, you can win the Tour Championship
and not be the player of the year.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
To me, that you can't.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
Do golf like you do baseball and football and basketball
where you have playoffs.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
It just it just doesn't work.

Speaker 3 (03:53):
I heard I can't remember who it was, maybe it
was the Odd couple, and they were talking about the
playoffs situation for golf because you had you had explained
it to me that when they get into the playoffs,
it's you know, Scotti's number one, so he's already at
like a minus.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
Well, they're they're already talking about they're already talking about
junking that system. Yet they don't like that, so they're
probably not going to do that this next time.

Speaker 3 (04:17):
I'm telling you adopt something along the lines of like
how NASCAR does it, you know, something something along those lines.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
But even that, I mean, I'm not familiar enough with
NASCAR to know if it's if that's the best system
or not.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
What I do know is that golf doesn't.

Speaker 2 (04:32):
Work like a team sport, true, because not everybody's playing
every week, not everybody's playing the same number of tournaments.
There's places that people want to go where they play well.
There's places that people want to go where they they
don't go, places they don't like because of the golf
course or the time of the year that it is.
Most people wrap their schedules around the majors and see

(04:53):
what they can do on places that they love to play.
