Indie every show. It is the final Friday before football begins,
at least most of the football season begins at the
college level. The pros are about five days away and
next six days away next Thursday, and the Friday edition

(00:41):
of this show Today comes to you from Kyle Field
in College Station, looking down on the field. Nobody's in
the stadium right nextcept those who are working and doing
a radio show like us, like we are doing it today,
but it will have over one hundred thousand people in
here tomorrow night around six o'clock when UTSA kicks off.
It and audio disseminators of this program today are Shane

(01:03):
Carter and Michael Bartlett. The producer of this program, And
I just have one question to kick this off. Have
you gotten over the news of twenty four hours ago
when we learned that Micah Parsons was going to be traded.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
Have you calmed down any.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
No, not whatsoever. I know that's not proper English, but no.
I am still in so much shock and vitriol. Yeah,
vitriol and anguish and pain that my knee has been
hurting for the last twenty four hours.

Speaker 4 (01:34):
Like that's how much.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
It's kind of like the shock I am when you
have bad knees and the weather changes, your knees hurt.
And now that Mike is no longer a cowboy, it's
gonna be painful for a long time.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
Yep.

Speaker 4 (01:43):
This is the pain that I'm going through.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
So all right, we're.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
Gonna hear from Jerry Jones coming up here in a
little bit, because he talked last night about the trade.
He had to do a press conference after all this
went down, and I am not buying most of it.
I think he's in spin control right now. But I
think Jerry got his ego bruised, and I think he
got his feelings hurt because Micah and It agreed to
something that he didn't know he was agreeing to in principle.

(02:10):
And when they said make sure, the agent says it's
okay and we're good to go. That's where Jerry wanted
to circumvent the agent. And I've said since the beginning
of this, the agent always has to be involved. That's
why people hire agents. Athletes don't have time and they
certainly don't want to take the time to find the
knowledge as to how those contracts work. They hire somebody,

(02:30):
they pay them three percent, and the three percent is
the max that you can charge.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
In the NFL.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
Some players still do the old number two percent. I
would imagine that of that one hundred and thirty six
million dollars guaranteed, the agent got three. And that's the
way that the world works these days. And Jerry knows
that this trade is because Jerry couldn't stand to get
his ego hurt and come back and do this. And

(02:56):
he has compared this to the herschel Walker trade. And
there's talk around, there's some jokes on social media where
he said, well, Jimmy Johnson thinks he's the one that
did the herschel Walker trade. Well, this is my herschel
Walker trade. Jimmy's not around. Let me tell you something
about the difference in this and he is right. You
could get two players that are really good. I think
Kenny Clark's better days are likely behind him. He's a

(03:18):
three time Pro bowler. People that turn thirty usually don't
keep up that pace, especially on the defensive line. The
two first round draft picks they got got who knows
where they'll be. They'll probably be in the twenty to
thirty range as far as the draft is concerned. Plus
next year they're probably going to drive draft in the
top five or ten, so they could get two players.
But I think there was a lot of cowboy fans,

(03:39):
and I think Brian Schottenheimer in particular is thinking about
what's my team going to look like this year? And
that's a concern I think for the entire team and
the morale of this team as they as they get
ready for the season next week in Philadelphia. But if
you go back to the Herschel Walker trade, what Jimmy
Johnson did when he made that trade is we're going

(03:59):
to take the five people you've never heard of on
your team. But for every player we wave that's a
first round draft pick or a second round draft pick,
and that's how the herschel Walker trade went down. And
the Cowboys subsequently waived all five of those players and
they got five picks, and I don't remember all the picks,
but I know that one of them was Emmett Smith,

(04:19):
and I believe a couple others were on that offensive
line that turned out to be one of the best
offensive lines for Emmitt Smith to run behind. So this
is a far less significant of a trade in terms
of personnel, and it does nothing to help this team
build on this year. But again, we'll hear from Jerry
coming up here in just a bit. All Right, we
saw we had football last night. South Florida takes care

(04:44):
of one of the group of six schools in Boise State. Now,
Boise State can work its way back, but they're going
to have to run the table. Now, they're not going
to be the highest ranked, the champion and the Group
of six. Even if they win the Mountain West and
move on for the rest of the year, They're gonna
have to They're not going to be able to lose
any more games if they're going to be the highest ranked.

(05:04):
I think everybody in the American Conference that has to
play South Florida, including UTSA is probably thinking, well, are
they that good or is Boise having a down year?
And we'll see how South Florida gets going the rest
of the season. But that was a pretty significant win
last night in Tampa and UTSA will be there the
first Thursday in November.

Speaker 3 (05:24):
Yeah, and looking at Boise States schedule, they would have
to run the table to even have a sniff at
potentially making the college football playoffs. They do have one
benefit though, that if they do run the table, there
is one particular team that is at least in the
top ten, and that would be Notre Dame.

Speaker 2 (05:44):
All they played Notre Dame this year.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
They're not winning that game, so there's two losses.

Speaker 2 (05:49):
So see ya, you're down.

Speaker 4 (05:50):
The road again. You never know, Andy, I think I think.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
I think Notre Dame is gonna win eleven games this year.
I don't think last year was a fluke. I think
they've got that ship turned around at Notre Dame. This
is gonna be They're gonna be par only in that playoff.
And even if Notre Dame does lose a couple of
games at ten and two, they're still gonna get in.

Speaker 4 (06:10):
I don't know about that. I don't know.

Speaker 1 (06:12):
I think I think Notre Dame is gonna be top
five most of the year. Well, and they play Texas
A and M in two weeks in.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
South Bend, so that'll.

Speaker 1 (06:21):
Be an interesting game SEC versus the independent Notre Dame.

Speaker 3 (06:24):
Yeah, but you know, Notre Dame scheduled this year is
not you know tough.

Speaker 4 (06:31):
They do start the year at Miami.

Speaker 2 (06:34):
Yeah, that's gonna be a fun game. We're gonna talk
about that in a little bit.

Speaker 4 (06:37):
Yeah, and then A and M.

Speaker 3 (06:38):
So right now, as Pat loves me to say, currently,
right now, they have three teams in the top twenty five,
number ten Miami, next week, number nineteen Texas A and M.
And then right now number twenty five Boise State. But
everybody else is unranked.

Speaker 1 (06:54):
Boise State will be unranked when they play them because
they were twenty fifth, and they won't be twenty fifth
nixt next year.

Speaker 3 (07:00):
Well, and remember the College Football Playoff Committee has stated
that they are going to look more about strength of
schedule this year, so.

Speaker 1 (07:09):
We'll see, we'll see how that plays into their decisions.
And then they'll still make Texas, Alabama, Georgia, and Florida
in the top ten if they have the even close
to the merits to be able to do that. All right,
I saw Nebraska and Cincinnati last night, and the more
I watched it, the more I wished I wasn't because
that probably was one of the most boring games I've
ever seen.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
And yes, I think.

Speaker 1 (07:31):
Matt Rules got the Corneriskers turned around a little bit
and they're a little bit more disciplined, and Royola may
be a good quarterback and maybe even be a Heisman
Trophy candidate at some point, but they still have a
long way to go to work on their offense. I
can't imagine Cincinnati's defense is that good. And although they
won the game, they should have won by a lot more.
I don't really know why they decided to play a

(07:52):
Cincinnati Nebraska game on a neutral field in Kansas City,
but that's what they did, and most of the stadium
was mostly Nebraska fans, even though they were designated as
the visiting team. Nebraska wins the game, but I wasn't
too impressed with how they won it.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
Well you got any thoughts on that.

Speaker 4 (08:09):
I literally didn't know that game was going on last night.

Speaker 3 (08:12):
The only reason I did know is because who was
in attendance exactly.

Speaker 2 (08:17):
That was my next topic. That was it.

Speaker 4 (08:19):
And I'm like, oh, that was.

Speaker 2 (08:20):
Better than the game. That's how bad the game was.

Speaker 1 (08:23):
They had about seventeen shots of Travis and Taylor in
the in the luxury suite with half the Kansas City
Chiefs team.

Speaker 3 (08:30):
I think Shane tweeted it out last night, and I
laughed inside obviously the news of Taylor Swift being there
and then Travis Kelsey and then they say Patrick Mahomes
and then they just kind of nonchalantly as like, oh yeah,
and Brittany Mahomes is there too.

Speaker 4 (08:47):
It's like fourth wheel.

Speaker 1 (08:48):
I was like, wow, I don't know if you heard
this the other night on the Jeff Trailer Show, but
he let everybody know that a few weeks ago he
got inducted into the Texas High School Football Coaches Association. No,
and they give the families like twenty five thirty tickets
whatever they can use and tables for their families to go. Yeah,
And so he asked his two sons and daughters if

(09:09):
they wanted to go, and and they said, nah, Dad,
you can do this on your own. We're good. We
got stuff to do. And the two of them are
in New York and one of them is coaching in Minnesota,
and I say, it's just it's just not conducive to
our schedules. And then a couple of days later, Jeff
called him and said, guess who's sitting at my table
at the at the Texas Hall of Fame induction. That

(09:30):
would be Patrick Mahomes. How can we get tickets? How
many can we get? We need to bring all of
our friends. Yeah, So all of a sudden it was,
you know, what's dad, chop liver'na. We're gonna go watch
Dad get inducted, But we're really there for Patrick Mahomes exactly.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (09:43):
I loved you, Dad, but that's Patrick Mahomes right there.

Speaker 2 (09:46):
You don't have as much clout. You're just Dad. We're
talking Patrick Mahomes here. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (09:49):
I'm just hoping that Patrick Mahomes maybe every now and
then does a little like inspirational stuff, motive motivational speaking
for the Roadrunners, because he's.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
I think he just needs to write a check.

Speaker 1 (10:01):
Apparently Texas Tech has all the money they need, so
he can just deliver some this way.

Speaker 3 (10:05):
Yeah, but I know Patrick Mahomes was talking about that
and said something along the lines of like he followed
the program and kept up with Frank Harris and how
Frank Harris was doing. Hey, hey, Patrick, you can come
down and you know, talk to talk to the guys,
talk to Owen McCown and all of them.

Speaker 4 (10:25):
Give them some pointers.

Speaker 2 (10:26):
Yeah, I'm sure they'll take some pointers and some money
while you're at it.

Speaker 4 (10:28):
Yeah, that was some money.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
Yeah, all right.

Speaker 1 (10:30):
U T and Ohio State play tomorrow at the Horseshoe
and Columbus. We'll talk about that game coming up in
the five o'clock hour. My compadres, or at least two
of the three of them on our broadcast, Pat Evans
and Jay Riley are here. We'll have them on a
little while to talk about whatever they want to talk about.
If Ed's Wars makes it over, he may join us
as well. We'll see if he can get here before

(10:50):
we finished tonight at seven o'clock. Also, we need to
get into a rare, a rare feat. Yesterday in baseball,
Kyles h Warber hit four home runs in the game.
It's not only happened twenty one times. We'll tell you
about some other rare feats in baseball. And according to
the boys in the desert. UTSA has an eight percent

(11:13):
chance to come up with the big upset tomorrow and Aguiland.

Speaker 4 (11:17):
So you're telling me there's a chance eight percent.

Speaker 2 (11:20):
Yep, that's the deal.

Speaker 1 (11:21):
And I believe for those of you that are for
recreational purposes only the line is dropped from twenty four
to twenty two.

Speaker 2 (11:27):
Is that right?

Speaker 4 (11:28):
Yes, that was the last one that I saw.

Speaker 1 (11:30):
Okay, So I have no idea how to tell you
how to wager your dollars if that's what you do.

Speaker 2 (11:36):
But have fun, however you do it.

Speaker 3 (11:38):
Have more faith in head coach Jeff Trailer than the
Aggies have in the last one hundred and fifty years.

Speaker 1 (11:43):
Well, just remember that this is utsa's fifteenth season and
this is Texas A and M's one hundred and thirty first,
so there is a little bit of history between the
two teams.

Speaker 4 (11:54):
Just make sure nobody drinks the water.

Speaker 3 (11:56):
That's you know what, That's the most important important question
that I have not asked you.

Speaker 4 (11:59):
Have you made sure not to drink any of the water.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
Do you know what I drink? Every day? I drink
water in San Antonio? I do.

Speaker 3 (12:05):
But I'm just making sure that the whole crew there
is not drinking any of the water.

Speaker 4 (12:10):
If it's water, it needs to come out of the bottle.

Speaker 2 (12:12):
Okay, whatever you say.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
Yeah, we'll also talk about the NFL with green Bay
getting Micah Parsons, how good they're gonna be this year.
I think I've elevated green Bay to a for sure
playoff team and I think they have a shot to
beat Detroit now in the NFC North. We'll talk about
that coming up next week on the show. On Wednesday,
we'll have I'll have my NFL seven teams from each conference.

(12:33):
Also our first week of picking the games in the
National Football League as we do throughout the season on Wednesdays,
Let's talk about Jerry and the Micah deal, and we'll
get to that coming up, and we'll hear from Jerry
Jones himself in the next segment from Kyle Field. It's
the Andy Everage Show on the Ticket
