Speaker 1 (00:04):
Let's talk some football, just in MARII Cooper signed with
the Raiders for three years, And I told you so,
I was that one year?

Speaker 2 (00:14):
It was it one year?

Speaker 1 (00:15):
Yeah, Mark Cooper for one year, Mary for one year.
I told you Terry McLaren would sign. I told you
they wouldn't trade him. There's no way they're going to
put Jane Daniels out on an island by himself and
make him do whatever he wants to do by himself.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Well, that is big wide receiver.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
All is well in Commander Land now that Terry McLaren
signed for three years and ninety six million dollars. Didn't
get the Chase money, but he's not deserving of that,
I don't think. And Terry McLaren will be in uniform
on opening day and nice and fresh and healthy after
not having to wear himself out in training camp.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
Yeah. Now, it makes him the sixth highest paid receiver
in the league, and it has a nice guarantee that
signing bonus fifty million dollars pen to paper.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
How'd that sound? Yeah? Slightly more than I get I know, right, slightly.

Speaker 3 (01:02):
I mean, if you look at the Commander's offense outside
of McLaurin, the best weapon they have on paper is
a used Deebo Samuel, and the running game is to
be decided. So this was much more of a need
than people will realize. But I mean, you you called it.
Of all the guys that said I want to be traded,
I felt the least likely was gonna happen was McLaurin
to begin with, because the commanders have no options outside

(01:22):
of him.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
Well, and I still think that Mica is gonna get signed.
And I'm going to talk more about the Jerry Jones
Cowboy and the gam Learnings Cowboys thing on Netflix that
I finished up last night. This is what owners like
to do. Owners. Most owners are salespeople. Most owners were
business people. They love the chase, they love the negotiation.

(01:42):
They could they get excited about all of that. And
I can't not. I can't imagine. And if and if
Jerry does not sign Micah and he holds out for
two games and they lose both of those games, his
his the number is just gonna go up because Jerry,
he did that with him at Smith's back in nineteen
ninety five. He didn't Smith didn't go to training camp,

(02:06):
He missed the first two games. They were zero and
two Emitt comes back ballgame. So I think that this
is going to happen later this week. We'll have Mac
Ingle on with the Ford Star Telegram and get his
thoughts on that. But it wouldn't be surprised me if
it happens this week. But knowing the way that Jerry
likes to do things, my guess is this is going
to be a game week decision, maybe even a game

(02:30):
day decision to get this done. Lyell Collins was one
of many that were cut today by the Cowboys. They've
got to get down to fifty three by Tuesday. This
is a really sad day for a lot of people
who know that their football careers are ending. Or some
may be invited back if they clear waivers to get
on the practice squad. But I think that'll be done.
We'll know that final roster in the final cuts tomorrow.

(02:52):
One other thing on Micah Parsons. There's a lot of
things being said about his behavior on the sideline this
past game on Saturday night and the fact that he
was seen laying on the training table for a few minutes. Okay,
maybe he was just wanting to be seen so that
people know he's still around. But maybe he was just
tired of standing up and wanted to stretch for a
little bit. Who cares and who knows? This distraction is

(03:17):
not on Micah Parsons. This distraction is on is on
Jerry Jones. Now there's a lot of you guys say, well,
he's got a one year deal for twenty four million dollars.
And my guess is, if he is forced to play,
he's not going to give up the twenty four million.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
He'll be there.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
He'll be there in two weeks, regardless when that first
game our week from Thursday, regardless, he'll be there on
opening night. He'll be in as good a game shape
as he can possibly be. He'll probably go through some
practices next week just to kind of get an idea
what's going on. But he'll be fine. He doesn't he
hadn't forgotten the playbook. But the distraction is going to

(03:53):
be there until Jerry puts pen to paper and signs
Micah and gives him his money. And this is how
the NFL works. It's kind of like a lame duck politician.
If you will you know that is the guy coming back?
Or do I not have to do anything about it?
And the Cowboys know that they want Micah for the

(04:15):
long haul, which is probably three to four more years,
and they probably don't want to guarantee the fourth year
of the contract, which I think Micah could probably live with.
But if he gets a four year deal worth one
hundred and twenty million and a five year signing a
fifty million dollars signing bonus, or a seventy million dollars
signing bonus and ninety million total guaranteed, my guess is

(04:35):
he'd be happy with that. That would be in the
ballpark one twenty five. That's typically what TJ. Watt and
all the other guys at that position are getting, and
that's basically what this comes down to. And Jerry knows
he either has to pay him, or trade him or
franchise him. And if you franchise a guy that's as
good as Micah Parsons, you're not only going to alienate him,
but you're going to alienate a lot of other players

(04:57):
who know that when it's their time to get paid
the they may not get paid like everybody else in
the league usually does. So people want to blame this
on Micah, and maybe he's been a little bit open
about it. From talking about it to the media and
to anybody that will listen. But Jerry knows that when
you're in the last year of your contract, it's kind

(05:18):
of a standard procedure that you up the guy a
little bit and you make sure that the extension takes place,
because these guys are looking for security at this point.
I mean, Micah could could not sign. He could get
franchise for the next two years and make forty two
million this year and forty two million next year or
whatever the average is between one and two, and he'd

(05:39):
still make eighty four million. But Micah wants an insurance policy.
He just wants to make sure that he isn't going
to get hurt and not get his money. And that's
basically what this is coming down to.

Speaker 3 (05:50):
I almost hope that he kind of that that he
does sit out the first game, just because at this point,
even if they were to come to Agrimmit tomorrow, he
would only have nine days to get ready for Philly.
At the moment, the Cowboys are sitting themselves in a
precarious situation to where they've done all this work on
the defensive line, but they're without their best player on
both sides of the ball, So like, is that really

(06:11):
sitting Brian Schottenheimer up for success to open up against
the Super Bowl champions or did the Cowboys really think
they can win without him? And I think that's gonna come.
I think that really is gonna be the telltale of
what Mike's new contract will end up being, whether it's
here or somewhere else.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
Here's who wants him on the field is the guys
that are playing corner in safety because they know when
Mike is rushing the quarterback, they have a lot less
time that they got to cover somebody before the quarterback
is running for his life or is on the ground.
The other defensive lineman that will now be double teamed
if he's not being double teamed, the other linebackers whoever
plays on the other side, whether they're in pass coverage

(06:46):
or or rush coverage, they want their playmaker on the field.
It makes their life easier.

Speaker 2 (06:51):
They don't. They then get to worry.

Speaker 1 (06:53):
About blocking and are trying to get off the block
of an inferior player. But don't understand, as long as
Mike is stays healthy, he's going to make twenty four
million this year and forty something next year and forty
something the year after. But he wants some a security
blanket that if I'm going to give it my all,
you're going to give it my all, And the right
thing to do is to pay me, you know, three

(07:13):
more years extension and forget about the franchise tags.

Speaker 2 (07:16):
Give that to somebody.

Speaker 3 (07:17):
Else real quick, just I know, a coman break. We
do have a bit of good news for the Cowboys though.
Looks like Trevon Diggs was cleared to play. He's likely
going to be active for Game one, and your guy,
former sooner Tyler Guidan, was back at practice. He says
he feels better, but the train staff sost to clear
him to play.

Speaker 2 (07:32):
Yeah, but he's trending in the right direction. My guess is, well,
they have two choices.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
They can put him on the fifty three man and
not activate him, or they can they can put him
on IR.

Speaker 2 (07:42):
For four games.

Speaker 1 (07:44):
So if it's not one of those two things, then
he'll be on the active roster for Philly and hopefully
we'll be able to play all right. One other NFL
note real quick here, Shiloh Sanders was involved in an
incident the other day. Punched opposing a wide receiver. He
got tangled up with was immediately ejected from the game
as part of the un sportsman like conduct penalty for

(08:06):
throwing the punch. I don't know why you would throw
a punch at somebody's helmet. You're going to hurt your
hand more than your helmet.

Speaker 2 (08:10):
That's the beat. And he's got frustrated.

Speaker 1 (08:12):
Yeah, well, he was getting tangled up with a wide
receiver too, and he was throwing him to the ground
and that's football. So but he got cut. And there's
a lot of people that say, well, you throw a punch,
you get cut. He was getting cut anyway. Yeah, he's
not nearly as good at his position that Shadu is
at his and Shadhuur is going to be the third
team back quarterback for the Cleveland Browns. So don't make

(08:35):
a big deal about Sanders getting waved over this.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
He was probably getting waved anyway, all right.

Speaker 1 (08:40):
Tyler Phillips is a pitcher for the Marlins, and this
guy is a character. And it's not that he pitches
for the Marlins that I care about, but it's the
way that he conducted himself with this interview, and also
some of the things that he kind of says about
the way his demeanor is before a game, and then
we'll hear from Jeff Trailer at the five o'clock hour.

Speaker 2 (08:58):
It's four forty five on the ticket.
